Pinning Recycle Bin to Taskbar

Question: Pinning Recycle Bin to Taskbar

I know about the tutorial explaining what to do using the toolbar method, but I don't like the separator between the Recycle Bin and the rest of the icons. There is another recommended method of pinning the Recycle Bin by creating a shortcut and using shell:recyclebinfolder, but this stopped working. In fact, all my folder shortcuts I created and pinned to the taskbar by using explorer.exe in the target stopped working.

Is there any other working methods out there so that I can put the Recycle Bin icon anywhere I want on the taskbar without seeing the separator?

Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Enable the Quick Launch toolbar, and put all of your pinned items there, instead of pinning them to the taskbar.

I installed Word 2013 onto a new computer some time ago. Windows 7 Home Premium SP1. Pinning has never worked. I can drag, I can right click and select pin, I can do whatever I want, but nothing appears and it just stays blank. Neither do recently opened items show up on a right click of the icon. Pinning/recent items works on everything else (e.g. Adobe, Explorer), including Outlook. I tried reinstalling but it still wouldn't work. I couldn't find much to go on so I gave up and have done without pinning. Recently I turned on "store and display recently opened items in the start menu and the taskbar" and suddenly I was given another clue as to what the issue is - Excel still shows nothing BUT in Word's recent items I'm getting *Adobe* files (see screenshot, file names removed for privacy): http://i.imgur.com/3wOOU60.png) I can pin adobe files to word's icon. I googled again and I still don't see anything about this but I'm just wondering if anyone has come across this and can help. Thanks in advance!

Question: Pinning to taskbar

Not a huge issue more of just something i was curious about, why cant the "computer" desktop icon be pinned to the taskbar? I know that it is possible to pin the windows explorer but i want it to have the computer icon or at least the c drive icon.

Answer:Pinning to taskbar

I haven't found the reason why it's not possible to pin the Computer icon to the superbar. Maybe it's because it belongs in the explorer - who knows. You can pin it, though, if you really want to. There are some guides already posted around here somewhere. You basically create a shortcut, then point that shortcut to where the My Computer icon points to, then pin it to the superbar.

Hi guys, I'm having a serious problem here. I wanted to add a folder to my windows explorer pinned folders so that I can right click on the windows explorer icon on the taskbar and have my popular folders right there. When I first setup windows 7, I did this by right clicking on the folders I wanted and clicking "Pin to Taskbar." Now, when I right click on folders, there is no such option. Even libraries only have the option to "Pin To Start Menu" which is strange because I had already pinned a library to the windows explorer icon on the task bar, which means that must have been an option before because I don't know how else I would do it. Can someone please explain to me how I can add more folders to the windows explorer icon? This is very frustrating

Answer:Pinning To Taskbar??

Drag folder to the explorer icon on taskbar and it will be pined there.

Question: Pinning To Taskbar

Hi All

I am new to windows 8 but have been finding my way around, One problem I am finding is that some websites I visit to "Pin To Taskbar" seem to only show a blank icon! No name but text but when you change the text it doesn't change on the icon? strange one particular site is the Nationwide bank page cannot seem to get an icon with a name on it?

Anybody got any ideas as to why this happens on only a few sites?

cheers!

Answer:Pinning To Taskbar

Hello Gatewaya, and welcome to Eight Forums.

It depends on what favicon is used by the site for what icon the URL shortcut will have on the middle of it's page icon. I have a icon for Nationwide bank for me, so you might see if deleting your temporary internet files and history and reloading the site may help.

If you like, you could also pin the site in the jump list of the browser's icon on the taskbar.

Hi,

I'm currently having a problem where pinning any kind of shortcut to the taskbar via its context menu doesn't do anything. That is, a pin doesn't appear on the taskbar, and in the location '%AppData%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\User Pinned\TaskBar' no shortcut file is created.

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 Professional from Windows 7 Professional. That may be the cause.
Another potential factor is that previously, I have followed this guide (using both methods described) in order to further customize my system. The reason I mention that is because in researching I read the answer posted here. Unfortunately, I have not been able to fix the problem by undoing the first method of that guide; also there is no way to undo the second method of that guide, and I have been unsuccessful in fixing the problem by following the solution that answer describes (I couldn't find the 'Inkfile' folder). By the way, is it wrong that the 'link' key I deleted in following the process to undo the first method hasn't reappeared after restarting?

I'm not sure what to try next.
I would really appreciate some help... sorry to be foolish enough to try and customize my system a bit, if that is what caused this issue.
For now, I guess I'll have to use shortcut toolbars on my taskbar. Or is there a registry location where I can at least go in and, say, add a key with a shortcut address and icon address to add a pin with those properties?

Thanks in advance,
Felewin

I installed Windows 7 recently and am finally making it look and behave the way I like except for one thing I would appreciate help with.

You see, I'm on dial-up... Don't laugh it's still the only thing available where I live.

When I had Windows Vista and before that I always had shortcut icon in my taskbar I could click on to connect or to check the state of my connection. Now I have to click on the Network Sharing Center in the right hand corner, and it takes me 3 more clicks before I'm finally connected. I have to go through the same routine to check if I'm still connected or what speed I connected at. Also, I don't always manage to connect on the first try so I have to go through that routine many times. I did manage to create a shortcut by opening Adapter Settings and creating one from there but the problem is Windows 7 wont let me pin that shortcut to the taskbar. I don't know what is worse... Having to go through the 3 or 4 cliks to connect, or having to stare at that huge dial-up shortcut all the time on my otherwise pristine desk top? Oh, and thanks for the little file that allowed me to remove the Libraries Icon from my desktop. Was really happy to find that little gem.

Any suggestion with my current problem would be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone,

First post here and thanks for allowing me to be a part of the community!

My first question is while attempting to pin a website to the task bar in Edge I followed the directions and selected the "3 dots menu" and then selected "open with IE" option as instructed.

When I click on the webpage icon in the task bar the site indeed comes up but it is in Internet Explorer rather than Edge. Is there any way I can pin the site to the task bar and have it launch in Edge rather than IE? I understand it opens in IE because I opened the website in Edge and then told it to open with IE.

When I tried pinning the tab to the task bar in Edge I got the universal red circle with the line through it so I couldn't pin it unless I opened it in IE.

Ive noticed when I pin a website to the Start Menu that it will open in Edge. Is it not possible to have this happen by using the task bar?

Thanks so much for your help.

Appreciate interacting with you folks very much.

best,

rick

Something weird has happened to my taskbar. I have a few programs pinned there and everything was okay. Then today I unpinned Firefox from there because I wanted to change the icon I was using. After deciding I didn't like it I tried to go back to the one I was using but when I pinned it back to the task bar this problem occurred:

As you can see when I click on the silver Firefox icon, it opens up a new firefox icon (default icon) in a separate place, taking up unnecessary space. I can't figure out how to make it go back to the way it was where everything stayed within the silver icon.

Answer:Strange problem with pinning an icon to taskbar

It is indeed the browser being opened but the problem is it used to open up within the silver icon (the default firefox icon you see to the right has basically taken its place). It's a bit of an annoyance because it takes up the little space I have on my taskbar before things start getting combined and messy.

Sorry if what I'm explaining is confusing, it would probably be easier to show with a video or something.

About a week ago an icon for Recycle Bin appeared on my taskbar near the right side. (see the attached image.) Not a pin but a larger icon, just like the one residing on my desktop. In fact, it is identical, having the same right click menu. A lengthy consult with MS didn't help. The only resolution suggested was to set up a new user account. But, as I like my setup and don't want to spend the time to recreate it in a new account, I've resolved to live with the icon. If anyone has an idea of how this happened or how to remove it, I'd like to know.

A growing number of people these days prefer the "clean" look. Recent releases of Microsoft Windows seem to encourage this. By default, Windows Vista and 7 strip the desktop of all icons but the Recycle Bin. Bring a fully functional Recycle Bin to your Windows 7 Taskbar, so you can clear off your desktop once and for all with little to no compromise.

With the Quick Launch bar configured, all you have to do is drag and drop the Recycle Bin onto it. Feel free to grab the dotted lines and drag the Quick Launch bar to your preferred location. Hi.

Whenever I empty the recycle bin or move a file there while it's empty, the taskbar icons refreshes. If I move a file to the recycle bin while it's NOT empty or skip it entirely by shift-deleting a file, this does not happen.

Anyone else experiencing this? Any fix for it?

Thanks.

Answer:Recycle bin causes taskbar icons to refresh

Yep, I'm seeing the same thing. I haven't done any in-depth troubleshooting or testing, so it's hard to say what might be causing it.

Answer:move recycle bin to taskbar and off desktop?

Hello Msongs,

You can right click on the Recycle Bin and create a shortcut for it, then move that shortcut to the Start Menu All Programs area. Afterwards, you can remove the Recycle Bin icon from the desktop to have a clear desktop.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

ron, please don't admonish posters if they don't provide the answer you are looking for. You have gotten quite a bit of help from this site in the last couple of weeks. To answer your question, most items will attach to the tray (taskbar) by simply dragging the desktop icon there. Once in the tray, feel free to delete the desktop icon, both are only shortcuts to the actual program.

After booting up, there is no desktop icons, no taskbar, no nothing. The background scheme is there but nothing. Also I have remote software installed, I can access all the files, folders everything thro this program tho. I can even run a program by going into the folder on the hard drive and starting it there instead of the desktop. System restore doesn't work and I don't even get the desktop thro safe mode. I even tried windows hotkeys.

I used this tutorial to get the recycle bin on my taskbar:

Recycle Bin - Pin to Taskbar

When I first did this everything seemed to go correctly. When I deleted something the recycle bin icon would show as "full" on the taskbar. And when I emptied the bin then it would show the "empty" icon. But something happened, maybe when I changed the icon or something and now it doesn't update. It just stays on the "full" icon even when the bin is empty and sometimes it stays on empty even when it's full.

Any ideas on how to correct this? I repeated the tutorial to see if it would work again but no luck.

Hi all I'm Kate and I'd be grateful if someone could help me out with a sticky problem.

I'm using Windows Vista. Version 6 (Build 6001: Service Pack 1).

A month or so ago I had some problems with the fake Windows Security virus ( calling itself Vista Security 2010 I think ) on my system, I was able to find some advice online and managed to remove it. Then 2 days ago I performed a System Restore as I was having problems with my wireless router ( turns out it was a faulty wire connection) but I think it's possible I have re-infected with this virus although it is not behaving in the same manner.

So far the things I have noticed that are not working correctly:

Recycle Bin-the icon doesn't change to 'full' when I send things to it and when I click to empty it, it displays this message, " Are you sure you want to permanently delete all of these items?" It would usually state the number of items. If I open the bin after filling it, it shows 0 objects.

Taskbar-I am unable to unlock it.

Start Menu- Switches itself back to Windows Vista view although I have selected Classic.

Windows Defender does not show in sys tray even though when opened it says it's working. After I removed the fake Security Virus, Defender would pop up in sys tray saying it had blocked some start up programs, it hasn't done this since I Restored.

Desktop- 2 Control Panel icons have appeared there and I can not delete them.

Who Wants a Fully Working Recycle Bin Icon in the Windows 10 Taskbar?

I read garbage like this and wonder "How much do people really know how to use Windows?"

I have been placing my Recycle Bin on my taskbar since Windows 7.

All you have to do is, right click the taskbar and turn the Desktop toolbar on, slide the recycle bin to the top, unlock the taskbar and right click near it, then turn off Show Text & Show Title, change view to large icons, shrink till only the Recycle Bin shows, and finally lock the taskbar. The first time doing this, it can happen that after a reboot or explore restart that the default icon(personal folder I believe will slip into it's original position, hiding the Recycle Bin, but after a few time adjusting, it will finally stick. I then hide the desktop icons(they are now in the toolbar) Done!!!

Answer:Who Wants a Fully Working Recycle Bin Icon in the Windows 10 Taskbar?

I use the 'Quick Launch' tool bar in Windows 8, but never thought about putting the recycle bin in there.

That's actually a pretty good idea, although I've had two icons on my desktop (My Computer and Recycle Bin) for so long now, it would feel strange if I moved them.

I'm not sure this is the right forum for this.

My friend has Windows XP Home Edition. He uses Comcast cable. He previously has Norton Anti-Virus. When he found out that McAfee was free with Comcast, he decided to switch. We got McAfee installed and thought we had removed Norton, but we see that the Desktop shows he has the Norton Recycle Bin and does not have the Windows Recycle Bin. And when he deletes a file, it doesn't go to the Norton Recycle Bin.

What is the easiest way to remove the Norton Recycle Bin and restore the Windows Recycle Bin?

Thank you.

1) You can go open recycle bin and then empty it. It just takes one more step to accomplish it.

2) If you have ccleaner you can restore or just clean with ccleaner itself. Honestly I've not used recycle bin for over a month.

If i open it brings up the folder but i can't empty the bin but i can restore the items.

I have tried the 'check & uncheck' recycle bin but that didn't work.

I had a problem deleting an older version of Firefox. The Firefox Setup .exe file was stuck in the Recycle Bin, it wouldn't delete and it wouldn't restore. Believing that the Recycle Bin was corrupt, I used this method from the DOS prompt:

rd /s /q C:\$Recycle.bin

I refreshed my Desktop and when I clicked on the Recycle Bin. While the file appeared to be missing, the Recycle Bin would not load properly so I restarted my computer.

Now when I click on the Recycle Bin icon, it points to my entire computer (exactly the same as clicking on "Computer" off the Start Menu) instead of the Recycle Bin folder.

How can I restore the Recycle Bin icon so that it shows only the contents of the Recycle Bin?

My gratitude to any and all who can help me.

Good afternoon,
Hopefully someone has experienced this and can offer advice.

A user is deleting files, but they are not appearing in the recycle bin

- user is deleting from her computer, and not a network location, or flash drive
- computer is not partitioned - only has a "C" drive
- computer is W7 32-bit
- user is not a local admin
- Use has 6 different recycle bins (right-click on RB desktop icon > properties > recycle bin location); some of the locations are "My Pictures", "My Videos" etc.... We are not able to manage the size of
these locations.
- all of the RB locations are set to "Custom Size"
- have tried:
a. deleting everything out of the RB
b. (running as admin) RD /S /Q C:\$Recycle.bin
c. set to view hidden & system files/folders, gone to "C" and deleted the $RECYCLE.BIN folder. clicked yest at all the prompts, including: Do this for all current items

** after both b & c, rebooted the computer

So far, nothing has worked. Might anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks!

Answer:The Recycle Bin on D:\ is corrupted. Do you want to empty the Recycle Bin for this drive?

even though there is also possibility issue also from the server side setting to this specific user, lets try to troubleshoot from client side
when this issue start happen? for first bet try to perform system restore using restore point
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/4692-system-restore-how-do-windows-8-a.html
try to login using local admin PC, check if this issue also persist there
turn of antivirus and security software to check, or you can perform clean boot
http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135
try to run system file checker to fix registry issue
http://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929833
try to login at safe mode with networking, and check
is this issue not persist at safemode with networking, maybe 3rd party software caused this issue
is there any important data on the D drive? please backup if any. Try to reformat this drive and check
the other workaround is try to re-create user profile. Maybe you need local administrator here

Using Windows XP, one can move anything on the desktop to the task bar. Why did the brilliant people at Microsoft change this? Using XP, I can pin a new folder to the task bar and then fill it with programs, files, etc. It didn't care. For example, using XP, I have a taskbar icon named MEDIA. When I click on it, a window opens with several icons inside, like Windows Movie Maker, Are Explosion Calendar Maker, Quick Time Player, VLC Media Player and so on.

This can't be easily done using Windows 7. Is there a way I can do this? I really don't need a whole bunch of icons on my taskbar.

Any answers beyond the dumb stuff that comes back on Google Search?

Thanks a bunch

Hi, create and test a shortcut as per the first picture

It should have the appropriate icon.

Test it (double click).

Rt click it and you can pin to start as a tile.

(Other ways to open the CP: Windows key + X, click Control Panel works, Windows key + R, control panel, Type 'contr' in the Cortana search field
for example).

I prefer this using Classic Shell (free):

Question: Pinning Issues

Hi guys,

I did a quick search and looked at the tutorial but I couldn't find my problem anyway, I hope it hasn't been covered already.

Anyway, I just updated my iTunes and for some reason (as always) the shortcut resets itself and my current pinned shortcut is useless. So I deleted it and pinned the new iTunes shortcut back to the taskbar but now when I open iTunes I get two icons on my taskbar: one to start iTunes and one for the iTunes program that is running. Before I replaced the shortcut, and for my other shortcuts, I always only had one icon for both. Here's a screenshot that better illustrates the problem:

Answer:Pinning Issues

Hello Smeg, and welcome to Seven Forums.

See if this may help. Unpin both iTunes icons on the taskbar. Now open iTunes, and right click on the icon on the taskbar for it and click on "Pin this program to taskbar" instead of from the shortcut.

Hope this helps,

Question: Movie pinning?

Hi all.

I have on the taskbar of my screen a folder that takes me to things I have recently done or used and I also have pinned things in the folder so that when I right click it it gives me the option of going straight to stuff like 'Music' , 'Vuze Downloads' and 'Downloads.

It's a great shortcut for me to reach all the things that I want without having to go searching through menu's all the time.

The problem is is that I have recently unpinned my 'Movies' folder and I do not know how to pin it back.

Can anyone help me out on this, I'd be grateful.

I personally just think it complicates things. I haven't really used the feature, but from what i've read it just adds the # of clicks you gotta make to reach the window you want.

The only time i'd see it useful is if i had a TON of windows of the same program open, like lets say 5+. Hopefully there is a way to set the threshold to where it goes into PIN mode.

I pin several network folders to windows explorer taskbar.  In Windows 8, they used to be able to be moved up and down.
I cannot get this to function correctly in Windows 10.  I have 6 folder pins on the taskbar for explorer, and I can't reorder them without unpinning all of them, and repinning them in the order I want.  Then if I want to reorder them again, because
of adding another folder, I'd have to unpin and repin again.
Is there a setting that I have that is locking this functionality?  Can't imagine that MS would make this feature go away.
Doesn't work for Word either.  The pinned items at top won't move, neither will the frequent items below.
Thanks.

For some shortcuts, you may have noticed that you do not have the ability to pin them to taskbar. Usually, there is a workaround by creating your own shortcut by following a guide like this one and then substituting My Computer for other icons by using the list seen here.

The problem is, this list is very short and I am sure you can think of many other shortcuts that you are not able to add that you would want to. My example would be the Sound shortcut in the Control Panel (actually I think all of the shortcuts in the control panel).

I was just wondering if anyone knew how to pin shortcuts to items within the control panel? Or knows of a longer list then the one above?

Thanks

Answer:Windows 7 - Pinning Shorcuts

You can use the new Control Panel NameSpaces.

%systemroot%\system32\control.exe /name Microsoft.SoundClick to expand...

You can also do it the old way:
%systemroot%\system32\control.exe mmsys.cplClick to expand...

If you want to access the Recording tab:
%systemroot%\system32\control.exe mmsys.cpl,,1Click to expand...

Change that to 2 for the Sound tab, and so forth.

In vista on the left pane in explorer it was split between the regular file navigation and a favorites area at the top. The favorites was always available and allows for you to click on your most used folders faster. In Vista the favorites isn't pinned up there anymore. Any one know of a way around this? I could create a bunch of "send too's" to replace being able to just drag stuff into my favorites but that is more work.

Answer:Explorer Favorites Pinning

here's mine - i haven't changed any of the defaults, and as you can see, the faves are there...

you do have the navigation pane enabled under Organize -> Layout?

Hi forum,
I used to be able to pin the audio settings using the Nokia folder app. Now that it has been removed from the store, is there a way to get audio settings back? I tried looking for a start screen customization app that has it and came up short. I also remember there's a way to look up the app's windows store ID and somehow have an another app recall it. What does the forum think?

Answer:Pinning Audio Settings

This should be a feature of the OS. Many times i've had to go into Settings > Audio while playing music, when it would be much easier to hit a button on the start screen...

Answer:Pinning Windows Explorer

Hi! wyrman, welcome to 7F

Start Orb >All Programs >Accessories >Right click Windows Explorer
Half way down the Context Menu there should be a listing "Pin to Taskbar" Click on that.
Then if you want to move it left click-hold, drag an drop to where you want it.

On the Start Screen UI you can hold Ctrl + left click to select numerous items to pin or unpin at once but, it seems that's not possible on the Start Menu UI.
Anyone else experience this?

Answer:Pinning/Unpinning Apps

I wasn't able to select multiple items to remove them either.

I found a PowerShell script which removed almost everything from the Start Menu.

Answer:pinning icons on right side?

Unlock taskbar and slide them over or another way is to add a quick launch to the task bar and slide it to the left!!

Hey guys, tried search the forums for a solution but came up empty.

Anyways, i want to know if you can pin custom folders to the window below. I have noticed that some programs let you navigate through the libraries by default. For Example pinning Downloads, or My Documents.

Answer:Pinning Custom Folder

Hello BTNH,

You can use the tutorial below to add a folder of your choice by replacing one or more of the 5 default items by entering the full path to the folder.

Common File Dialog Box - Customize Places Bar

Hope this helps,

Hello all

New to Windows 7 and am learning but one thing I really hate is this pinned option thing.

Is there anyway to remove that as a option from right clicking of the taskbar icon menu?

Thanks

Answer:Can I get ride of Pinning option?

Yes, don't pin it there.

By pinning, however, you get a full history of the Word, IE, etc. program's use by rightclicking.

I find it the place to pin freq used programs, leaving active files to the desktop.

I am not sure if this is a malware problem, but I am vary suspicious that it is. I was given a computer and told it was running so slow as to be unusable and could I check it for viruses. The procedure that I follow when asked to do this is to boot to safe mode and run;

MalwareBytes (2.0.4.1028)
AdwCleaner (4.201)
HitmandPro

All of these found makware with MalwareBytes reporting several hundred objects, many of which it listed as Trojans. Once I did this the system seemed to be running faster and I rebooted to normal. Again it seemed fine but after a few minutes it just ground to a halt and became unusable. I again booted to safe mode and with one exception, it run fine. That exception was windows explorer which ran very slow, but did run. I then tried safe mode with network. This duplicated normal mode and quickly ground to a halt. I then retried safe mode with network, but with the network cable unplugged. This time it performed normally. I then plugged the network cable in and it ground to a halt again. Remove the cable and it returned to normal. I next ran task manager and saw that on startup there were 7 processes showing;

conhost.exe
csrss.exe
ctfmon.exe
dllhost.exe
dllhost.exe
explorer.exe
taskmgr.exe
winlogon.exe

The CPU usage was ~6%. When I plugged the network cable in these processes started to duplicate, with 5 conhosts and at least 2 of the others and the CPU usage went to 100% and stayed pinned there. If I pulled the cable the process... Read more

What's the difference between "pinning" a shortcut to the Start Menu and simply copying the shortcut there?

Answer:Pinning to the Start Menu

Welcome to the Seven Forums
If you mean dragging it into the start menu, there is no difference it the same as pinning it.

Is there anyway to save those pinned tabs to stay there after I restart PC/reopen chrome and all that ~ not actually load them because I could just set them as the homepage but keep them there so when I click it it'll load the tab, I only have a fairly small laptop screen and this will save a bit of room.

Answer:Google chrome ~ pinning tab(s).

I didn't know you can pin tabs! lol
How do you do that?

Okay. I had IE9 beta since release. So far VERY Impressed buy it. Only for the past few days i have been getting this problem.. Basically the Facebook logo does not appear correctly when i pin Facebook to my "Superbar". This is just for Facebook and does not apply for other pinable websites as shown in the picture, Twitter is working as it should.

Jumplist shortcuts are still working fine, the specific icons for each of the jumplist shortcuts are working correctly. I have tried doing a number of things;

-Waiting for it to blow over (recently twitter changed their icon and that took about a day for it to start appearing properly)

-Re/Uninstalling IE9

-Deleting ALL Browser information/History

Has anyone got any idea how to fix this? i have done some light searching around on the Internet for this but did not find anything. Thank you

Answer:IE9 Windows 7 Pinning Problem

I got this problem too! But worse.
