Printing XPS document

Question: Printing XPS document

I'm using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. I can't print an XPS document in Firefox. I can print it in IE8. Anyone else have this problem and if not what do I have to do to correct it? I'm using FireFox 3.5.6

Preferred Solution: Printing XPS document

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Printing XPS document

Have you tried to download the file to your PC with Firefox and then open it with IE? I know this isn't a solution but it's a workaround until someone comes along with better advice.

Also, give THIS SITE a try. You may find some additional information or resources that are helpful.

I am having trouble printing a pdf document. I have both my camera and mobile phone manuals as pdf documents. I want to print them as an A5 document. I have changed the paper size to A5, when I go and print it comes out as rubbish, although it prints out ok on landscape. I have done some of the mobile manual before, but can't remeber what I did.

Answer:printing PDF document

I might not be able to supply an answer but it might help someone else here to help you if we knew ...

What software, including version number, you are using to open and print the PDF file?

Are the page sizes in the PDF files all ready set as A5 or are they some other size that you wish to fit on A5 paper?

Are you doing anything like trying to print two PDF pages on one sheet of paper?

Brand and Model Number of your printer?

Operating System running your computer?

My boss was having a difficult time printing a pdf document sent to him as an attachment. He is using Vista. I e-mailed it to myself and was able to print it from my computer, I am using windows 2000.What could be the problem, I saved it on his desktop and still wouldnt print. I tried using Vista PDF, it prints but in landscape, and I couldnt find an option to change to potrait. the amazing thing is I was able to print a different PDF from his computer with no problems at all.....Please help

Answer:Printing a pdf document

What is he using? Adobe Reader or Foxit Reader? And is he printing from inside the web browser, or did he save the file, open it with the viewer, then print from there?
As for printing in landscape, after you pick print, look in properties and see if the orientation has been improperly set.

Hello,

I have some problem with printing this document:

Any idea why ? I don-t know, maybe it is protected in some way.

Answer:Problem printing PDF document

If you look at the security settings (click on the padlock on the left hand side of the screen) it says that it's protected. You can also look at the permission details which shows you that you aren't allowed to print. Not sure how or if you can get round this.

I have a now 30- page document on my computer that is in black at present; I want to try printing it in NOT black ( if for no other reason than to "preserve" my black cartridge as it is a LOT of printing), but perhaps in dark blue or whatever;PRESUMABLY(???) if I change the font colour on the document itself,( MAY need " guidance" with THAT!!!) it SHOULD then PRINT in that new colour, OR, do I ahve to "instruct" my printer to print with the new colour???win98se;HPdeskjet840C ( and insane user!!!!)

Answer:printing a document in anything BUT black...

I would have thought that if you change the font colour in your document it should then print in that colour. That normally works for me.

I like to print personal documents on my color printer at work. I am one of the admins for this project. We have 3 business partners here at this project. One partner does facilities and supplies all the toner. To my knowledge they dont have one of my team members monitoring print jobs, but someday might. I use a program to print dvd covers and I know it gets expensive. The logs and print que shows the title of my program as document name when I print. How can I change what is seen in the que. Where does it pull this name from. Can I make a reqistry change and hide the name. I dont even know where to start searching on google. Please help.

I have XP Pro and the print server is Server 2003.

Answer:masking document name when printing

The name of the "program" that produced the document probably shows as the title because of the file "extension".
What type of file is this?

You are probably better off to go to the partners and get permission, even offer to pay something, rather than have a more serious problem later. I have seen people fired for using the postal meter (at work) of thier personal mail. It is considered stealing by most company's standards. Likely yours as well, or you wouldn't have asked.

So, just a question more out of curiosity than anything, as I don't expect a solution (I know, pessamistic...)

It's time to renew my passport and the application form is a protected pdf (no modification, no comments - only printing).

After wasting a day looking for restriction decryptors, I just went with making a blank document to "double-print" ontop of the application form.

The tree-huggers are going to love this, but after wasting about 20 pages (rotation, page order, orientation etc...) and a lot of time I now have it sorted, but my question is:

Does anyone know of an app to overlay print jobs instead of manually inserting paper back into the printer tray?

I seem to remember back in the day (Win 98) I had a brill little printer app that would resize, multipage print watermark and all sorts, but for the life of me...

Thanks
D

Answer:Overlay document printing

A different approach might be to obtain a pdf program that creates, edits, etc. (I use Foxit Organizer...immature, but they are constantly working to improve it...and it's inexpensive). In this case (based on the info you provide), I would print the blank form, scan it in as a jpg file, then convert it to pdf, afterwards using the OCR tool to recognize the text for selection or highlighting (if desired).

After that, I would then either use the typewriter tool or, if I planned to use it multiple times over a period of time, create entry fields as layed out on the original form.

I have just received an e mail that has a form in a Word style document that I can fill up and then presumably return to the sender. The Form seems fine in itself and I can go to the various boxes and fill the information up with no problems. (It appears to be protected so that Joe Public cannot make any changes to it.) However, when I come to print the form out on my HP930C, the preview shows everything there, but the printer only prints the top header and nothing of the form at all! Essentially a blank sheet is thrown out of the printer! There doesn't appear to be any problem with the printer in that it will print any other document I care to throw at it and it is my default printer.I tried printing on the Epson R300 and it all printed well there. So, why can I not print it on the HP 930C?ThanksTonyV

Answer:Printing a Word document.

There maybe some form of (print) protection built in. If you really need a copy get it on screen then hit the Prt Scr button then paste into paint or something similar then print.

Check this one out...

Its a Windows NT sp6 machine. Dell gx1. It has a iOmega Zip 100 MB parallel zip drive. It uses an HP 4000 laserjet that connects to the Zip Drive. BIOS settings for parallel are PS/2 or AT-- Have it on PS/2 --

When printing, the machine spools the document and when it sends it to the printer, the printer starts processing it. but then it just goes "ready" again. --- the document dies.

It only happens on 15MB+ documents or Images the rest prints smoothly and the ONLY workaround found is connecting the Printer DIRECTLY to the parallel port and then it prints LARGE documents.

contacted iOmega but they do not have solution for that , they don't know.

Just wondering if anyone had solution if not , just wanted to let you guys know.

---- like someone said here..."parallel ports were made for printing" ---

Answer:Printing 15MB Document Through Zip 100MB XX

Howdy,

I encounterd this along time ago.
I think it is because your printer software
is trying to send data both ways (computer to printer & printer to computer). Zip drives dont like the printer to computer part. Ask the people at HP how to disable bi-directional printer communication.
I'll try to find out how to do that.
(If you have a printer icon in the system tray {by the clock} see if you can exit out of it & try it again.)

Hi,

I received a weird query from my friend regarding MS Word. It is weird that his account type is administrator but in a specific location, the documents in that folder are unable to print whereas documents in other folders and location are able to print. The computer is supporting Windows 2000. Is MS Word is malfunctioning or what could be the problem to this issue? In addition, upon clicking the print icon in the affected documents, it will hang there and appears the recover and restart MS Word message.

Answer:Printing issue From a Scanned Document

Hi GuitarNigel,

This is certainly an odd one. I'm not sure how the Chromebook would have any influence over this once you can pull a document store on Google Drive and print it.

I'm making an assumption that you're probably saving these as PDFs and using Adobe to open them in most instances? If you have someone who could try, have them open up the Print, select Advanced and then check the "Print as image" option and see if that allows them to print.

Hope this helps,Cory

Starting IE takes 30 sec. in stead of 1 sec. A next page in IE takes 15 sec in stead of split sec. Even after the document has been printed the system stay in 'slow mode' for approx 10 min. Thereafter everything is as normal as before.

Have one of the oddest problems I've ever encountered. Have a mail-merge document linked to a query in an Access database. It works perfectly on my computer, but does not work properly on the laptop and printer used by the non-profit client where I installed it. The printer is an HP OfficeJet 6600. Laptop is a Dell.

Thinking the client's letter had become corrupted, I tried copying my copy of the mail-merge letter to the client's laptop. Produces the same result, which is that the letter truncates every line half way across the page. . . as though someone placed a blank piece of paper on the left half of the page to blank it out. The MM letter includes the envelope, so for every record, you get both the addressed envelope and the letter.

In addition, when the MM letter is on screen and you merge it (clicking the "ABC" icon in Office 97-2003), it looks like some parts of the letter are on the envelope. . .but they don't print on the envelope.

The client tells me this is the ONLY MS Word document that does this; all other document print perfectly.

???????????

My daughter has written a short story, using a windows 8 document. She has made various alterations within the document, but once it was viewed in print preview, everything looked as it should be, until she came to print the document. Then she found text from some pages had slipped down onto the next page. Although the print preview still looked correct, could the reason be, how the original document was set up? Grateful for any ideas.

Answer:windows 8 document not printing as shown

Make sure that the paper size set in the printer properties is the same as the paper being printed on. It sounds as though she is printing an A4 document with the printer paper size set to "letter".
Incidentally there is no such thing as a Windows 8 document. Windows is the operating system which runs the word processing program in which the story has been typed. This is most likely to be MS Word or Open Office Word processor. Just thought to mention this as if you need more help then we will need to know which program the document was produced in.

Answer:Solved: Printing Excel Document

This is more likely a problem with your Printer configurations than excel. Try restarting your printer, unplugging it and plugging it back in, and make sure there is ink in your ink cartridges by running an ink level test which you should be able to do by going to the control panel, printers and faxes, clicking on your printer, then clicking check ink levels. You may also want to have your printer clean its printing heads if it has that option.

Hi, I am getting the message "There was an error found when printing the document xxx to MSFAX:. Do you want to retry or cancel the job"

I was able to fax last week and havenít installed anything since then but the event viewer says autoupdate brought something in on 30 Sep 06.

I can send fax output to a file but not to the modem for faxing. The modem works fine, can dial into an ISP without problem. Also, I cannot print to the CUTEPDF file generator. Seems like a general print problem?

I refreshed all the printer files (stopped spooler, deleted C:\WINNT\system32\spool\drivers\W32X86, then installed fax driver again) but problem persists.

Can anyone pls help? I have:

Hi,
Here's my problem:
I have a home wireless network with 2 desktop computers and 2 laptops using it. I connected a new HP Officejet 4500 wireless to this network (it's set on one of the desktop computers that has Windows XP).
I installed the drivers on all the computers and have no problem printing regular documents from any of them (using Office, browsers, notepad etc.), BUT -
I need to print documents from a certain old MS-DOS program. I set the network printer as LPT1 (using net use command), and I see the document is sent to the printer on the computer that the printer's connected to - but it appears there as Remote Downlevel Document, and doesn't print. It's on the printer's window, but then nothing happens and it disappears from there.
Anyone has any idea why? And what can I do in order to print the documents?
Thanks ahead!

Answer:Printing Remote Downlevel Document on Windows XP

Just 2 more things:
1. I understood that there's some virus that can cause this problem, but no viruses were found on the computer
2. Before I bought the printer I did an experiment to print to a network computer set to LPT1 from the same MS-DOS program, using a laptop that has Windows 7, and it worked just fine.

Answer:Printing a mirror image of a document in Word.

I don't know of any way to do this directly in Word. You can flip objects but not text. You could print the page and then scan it as a picture and open this in an image program to reverse it or even just insert it back into Word where it will now be an object and can be flipped. Alternatively you could print the page on a transparency and photocopy or scan it from the wrong side.

Answer:Excel: How to insert user printing document in footer?

Open Print Preview, and then see the Header and Footer options, there you can see the possible variables, I always include date and time so that I always know I have the most recent printout.
You have left, middle and right footers as well as headers and you can manipulate the font size,

You could also record a macro while doing this so you can see how to do it programmatically.

Hi,

What does the Print Preview for the doc. show?

Does it contain non-standard fonts and/or special characters?

Have you tried opening the doc. in a different Word Processor?

Have you tried converting it to/saving it as a PDF file and then printing it?

How do I get this printer to not print that page # at the bottom of the printed document? My printer is HP Photosmart all-in-one C4400 printer/scanner/copier, PC is HP 6715B running Vista professional X86. I'm trying to print some simple text flyers I concieved via Notepad and I have it all just like I want, but I don't want that page # (Page 1) printed at the bottom. What to do?As always, thanks for any help!Mike

Answer:When printing from a notepad document it always shows page # at the bottom

Easy...   With notepad open...File ---> Page Setup... ---> Make Header and Footer Fields blank and select OK ( *Note you didnt want page#, but I am assuming you might not want the header info on there too to have a clean print. If you want the header then just blank out the Footer to remove the instruction to add page number. )Now you will have a clean print without header name and page number at bottom. Hi,

Just wondering if there is a good technique to use when trying to print a Excel document when the Freeze Pane option is turned on? i.e A large document that would span a few sheets, if wanting to print say the 3 left columns (were the freeze is) and also print say the last 3 columns right across the other side (to the right) I notice when trying to select the relevant cells so as to go to the Set Print Area Option, the Spreadsheet will span right accross to the end? (hope I have explained this!?) so unable to select the 3 columns on left and right together?

I have Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.0. This is a new quirk. I have a PDF file which shows/fits perfectly on the screen for viewing and/or when emailed shows up on all screens as a single page. However...when I try to print it it only prints a small centered box on standard 8.5 x 11 paper. I have tried printing to scale...printing to fit paper etc...but I still get this single centered box with a few words in it on the center of the printed page. I think it has something to do with the original scanning settings into Adobe Pro

On the jpg attached please note the size of the view screen which shows the properly fitted page.

How can I reduce this PDF to properly print on a normal printed page. I'm sure the printed page has something to do with it...but can't figure out how to get it to print page size as it shows in the Adobe working screen on any PC via any of the printer print setups ?

Thanks...TRinAz

I am testing some Windows 7 Professional clients on my SBS 2003 (Svc PK2) domain and I am having a confusing printing problem.  Each day my Win 7 users turn on their machines and it seems like the first prints of the day ALWAYS fail.  When they print it actually sends two items to the print que.  One item is the appropriate print page (even a simple test page has the same result).  But the other item is simply listed as  Local Downlevel Document.  This is the problem item.  it will NOT print.  I have to stop and restart the print spooler while trying to delete this item from the que.  Sometimes it takes many, many tries before it disappears.  Once it does I can stop and restart the print spooler one more time (yes...this extra start and stop seems to help) and now my prints will be sent to the que properly and the prints will come out without a problem.  Until tomorrow when the process seems to start again. Are there any suggestions I can try???   I have updated the printer drivers to the latest I can find on the internet.  I have rebuilt my printing ques but always have the same results.  Any suggestions at all? Thanks for any helpRich

Answer:Windows 7 Printing sends a Local Downlevel Document and will NOT Print

That is because the printer driver installation does not start because of the error. By default high privilege will be needed when you install driver. The clients may need to install the Windows 7 compatible driver on their client computers. Printer driver installation program will prompt that if you would like to install a local printer or a network shard printer. Then select the correct option and finish the installation.
If the driver installation program does not help in this, follow the steps below to add a shard printer.
1. Click Start, click Control Panel and double click Devices and Printers.2. Click Add a Printer. 3. Select "Add a local printer". 4. Select "Create a new port". Choose "Local Port" as the type of the port.5. In the box "Enter a port name", type the address as the following format.
\\[IP address of the host computer]\[The Share Name of the printer]
Then click Next.
6. Follow the instruction to finish the installation. During installing, choose the correct driver in the driver list.
Also you can try to add the Windows 7 compatible printer driver to the printer server. You need to install the Windows 7 compatible driver in one of the Windows 7 client, then follow the steps below.
1. Install the driver on one of the Windows 7 clients.2. Launch mmc from Start Search box.3. Click File->Add/Remove Snap-in.4. Add "Print Management". Point to the server in "Specify the printer server". 5. Expand &qu... Read more

Hello,
I've a problem with printing a word 2010 document using HP Deskjet 6943
Here is a snapshot of the document on Word 2010
http://img855.imageshack.us/img855/2969/pro1g.png
and this is the print preview
http://img600.imageshack.us/img600/2282/pro2hh.png
Please take care of 2 things :-
1- The header in the print preview is not taking the whole width of the paper and also there is a gap between it and the upper border of the paper, the whole width issue is recognized when I print this document
2- I can't see the footer in the print preview and it also has the same problem like "1"
What I need is simple, the document I made in Word = the real printed document, no more, no less.
Thank you

Answer:Problem with printing a word 2010 document using HP Deskjet 6943

The header and the footer are contained inside a 'box'. The 'box' does not extend to the very edge of the paper. But you can alter the box sides and top to make the box a different size. some vids on YouTube that might help. Here's a link about 1 min 40 secs in on this one to alter the space above header and below footer
The line you see for the bottom footer is probably a border on the top edge of the footer box. Make sure you have selected 'no borders' for the footer box.

I've constructed a Word 2007 which is fine to look at and it saves fine. But it shows up as BLANK on Print Preview and when I print it out, it's just a blank piece of paper that comes out. Very alarming. (All of the data is in text boxes, and I noticed before that when I insert arrows, for example, they don't print out. Perhaps graphics are the problem? It won't recognise either graphics or text inside graphics) Advise.

I dont' get any error's at all, just no response. When I watch the print queue as it spools the document it briefly shows a document named "Local Downlevel Document" spooling, and then it does nothing. What is that all about?

This is REALLY frustrating so if anyone is able to offer any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

When saving a Word 2007 document as a webpage (htm, html), an extra folder is automatically created besides the hmtl document itself. This folder contains background information like pictures, wallpaper etc. Is there a way to prevent that folder from being created in the first place? I've got Word 2000 on another computer, and when I save my word documents as html files over there, that extra folder is not generated. The only time that folder is created in 2000 is if my documents contain pictures, wallpaper etc. In Word 2007, it is created all the time, even though my documents are just plain text.

Answer:Solved: Word 2007, saving document as html document: how to get rid of extra folder?

Managed to find the solution, it was very simple after all. One has to save the document as a filtered webpage and click "yes" when a box pops up warning you that you will use certain featuers which are specific to Office2007, such as the background. Then the document will save without that extra folder and files.

I am running XP and Word 2000 and Nortons. Word will crash if you leave the document open for a while (there is no specific time frame) and then select close (icon). The error - Microsoft Word for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close. The details are: AppName: winword.exe
appver 9.0.0.3822
Modname: kernel32.dll
modvers: 5.1.26002180
offset 0001eb33

This has pretty much happened since I got this laptop. I have reformatted and reinstalled everything (due to another problem) and still have the same problem with word. I have used the same CD on other computers to install word and they do not have the same problem.

I use a variety of templates and plain documents in my work and can not pin point it to one template.

If you leave Word open with a document (no matter what size) and come back to it later this is when the problem happens. I started to get around it my saving first then closing, but this no longer works. The save completes and then I select Close and this is when it happens - you get the dreaded pause and then you hear the whirl of the computer and then you get the Microsoft Word for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close. Firstly I could put up with it but is now just a nusiance.

I have two questions regarding documents created in Word 2007...

1) Can links be created within a Word document? For example, can I click on and item my table of contents and have the document jump to that particular section of the document?

2) Also, is there a way to make sections of the document hidden until the user clicks a specific word or graphic in the document?

I'd like to specify a particular instruction and include a "Show example" link that would make a detailed example appear for those who needed the extra help.

Thanks everyone!

Answer:Word 2007 - Links within a document? Hide/Show sections of a document?

If you created table of contents through References - Table of Contents, you can hold Ctrl and click on the item in that table, word will take you there. This feature is standard.

Also, to navigate inside document you can use bookmark option.
Insert bookmarks. Word 2010 Bookmarks
Then insert Hyperlink - in the window select second tab "Place in This Document" and choose your bookmark.

As for hiding parts of document, I do not think that is possible.
You can create that in HTML document with javascript, but not in Word document.

This might be kind of tricky.

We're trying to streamline our RFQ-to-Quote process, which currently utilizes a combination of digital forms and hand-written forms passed among several departments. My boss asked me to modify the RFQ form to save him some typing (because he has to retype all the information in the final Quote), and I--not understanding the complexity of the process--very stupidly told him that it could be done fairly simply using form fields and bookmarks. He's been kind enough to grant me a lot of leniency because for him anything would be better than the current situation, so as long as I can improve on what we use now, he'll be happy.

I thought about creating form templates for each of the departments, then as the original RFQ circulated from one department to the next subsequent forms would be appended to it to create a rolling document. I'm not too happy with the that idea; there's all sorts of room for user error. I thought about creating a single document template containing every department's form, but a) I don't want any single department to be able to modify information gathered during another department's process, and b) certain departments must generate a variable number of copies of their form.

I told my boss the best way to accomplish a secure and low-maintenance RFQ-to-Quote would be to create a stand-alone Quote Generator application, but we both agree the effort is not condusive to the timeframe by whic... Read more

Hi all.

The other day whilst in the throws of fixing another unrelated problem I came across a strange and annoying Word Document problem.

When I bought this word document up it present a very unusual icon. It was grayed out and part of the title contained a ~$ then the name of the document.

When I tried to open it, the word document only opened up to the gray page just before it should turn white displaying the text, and there it froze.

Nothing worked after that! The freeze was so bad that the only way to close the window was to turn the computer off at the tower.

After rebooting I tried it again 2 more times with the same problem freeze occurring in the Word document.

Today I again found another document that caused the same problem, this time the icon for that document was normal but right beside this icon was another malformed grayed out ~$(name) icon.

When I tried to open either of the 2 icons I got the same freezing up problem, just as before.

I tried a previously suggested step in that I opened "Word" and from there navigated to where the bad files were located.

In turn I only hi-lighted each, and at the bottom of that window clicked on the arrow for the drop down box.

I was advised that one of the presented options was to repair the file. No such option was present.

So there you have it. Any advice on this problem please?

Regards

Answer:[SOLVED] Word document freezes computer and document is corrupted

Hi all.

Just to advise that I am going to mark this topic as Solved......to a fashion so to speak.
I may resurrect it at a later stage if the problem re-presents it's self.

In a nut shell. I spent a lot of time today searching sites and performing tests including searches on my computer program.

I ascertained that all the aforementioned "defective " Word documents originated in the same folder. After performing several search functions with the criteria as ~$.doc no other such files were found on my computer, other that the already mentioned.

All tests suggested would not repair the said documents.

I have now deleted the offenders and I will monitor the situation. If I run into problems again I will re-post.

Thanks anyway.

On my previous computer with Windows 2000, I was able to make incremental backups of a Microsoft Word document while it was being created by me. The advantage of this was that if an "accident" happened and the document was lost or corrupted before it was completed or saved to a folder, the partially completed document could be retrieved from a special folder somewhere in C-drive. I was able to specify how often a new backup was created (ex.: every 3 minutes, ex.; every 10 minutes, etc.). It is possible that this special folder also contained backups of all previously saved Word documents, which were also being re-backed up every few minutes. -- I cannot find any reference to this on my new computer (Windows XP and Microsoft Word 2002) in the Windows search engine, or in the Word user interface "Help". I cannot remember how I found this feature on my previous (W~2000) computer. -- Thanks

Hi,

I work at a small non-profit and we have updated two computers with new computers running Windows 7. We use MS Word 2003. I have checked all threads on forum related to this issue, but nothing seems to correct our problem. I would be grateful for any help.

Description of issue: With a Word document open, one should be able to click "File" > "Send To" > Mail Recipient As Attachment", or any of the other mail options, and have the email composition window of Thunderbird pop up. What happens is that Word is attempting to send the attachment via Windows Live Mail. The computer basically freezes. If you try and abort or get out of Word, and error pops up stating you can't close Word until the email has been sent. Finally, you have to force a shut down of the computer.

Internet Explorer shows Thunderbird as default email client. I have check all of the other obvious places for setting the default email client, but I can't seem to find a conflict anywhere on the computer showing Windows Live Email as default client.

As a side note, this employee was using Outlook Express as their email client prior to the computer upgrade and all setting were imported into Windows Live Mail, which was initially used. The employee did not like Windows Live Mail, so I installed Thunderbird. It is used as the default email client and the only issue has been with Word. Additionally, I know that the document could be sent from Windows Explorer by right-cli... Read more

Hello

I don?t know what you mean with laptop keeps sending the document but if you have this issue with office word or some other office application, try to check some forum where you can find discussion about similar theme.

I can not give you any precise answer but it is maybe because of office specific settings or you press accidentally some key on the keyboard and on this way interrupt symbols entering.

Hi....
I'm using word 2010.
I have a Mailmerge document (actually a company letter with header and footer, used by a package called "Cash4Windows" [C4W]). This document usually has the recipients name and address etc. inserted by C4W.
The document is a template - "xxx.dotx".
What I want to do is strip out the Mailmerge fields and save the document as a normal Word 2010 document, 'cos the User wants to have a blank standard company document available.
I've spent a long time fiddling with the Header and Footer to get just what the User wanted, and I know i could just cut-n-paste the Header and Footer into a new document, then save it as "xxx.docx", but when I looked on various help sites the normal method in Word 2010 seems to be
on the ribbon tab
Select Mailings
Select "Start Mail Merge"
Select "Normal Word Document"
then save the Word document.
I've tried this and it has absolutely no effect, as when I close and reopen Word and select the previously saved document, I still get the "Opening the document will run the following SQL command" splash screen!
I've tried saving the "normalised" document with various different extensions, but nothing seems to get rid of the SQL.
I've also tried opening the VBA editor (Alt+F11) to see if I can find the SQL, thinking that if I can delete the SQL it might cause Word to avoid the prompt, but I can't even find the SQL!!!

I was working on a Word document that someone sent me by email in form of rar and saved the document. I now can't find the revised file and I have lost about 8 hours of work. Any ideas on where I can find this file? I looked in the email that was originally sent, but it is still the old file. I have also done searching on my computer with no luck. Help, I'm desperate!!! I have Word 2007. Please give me reply as soon as possible.

Answer:Cannot find the saved revised document in Word document

If you were only hitting "Save" and not "Save As" the document is likely, unfortunately, gone. You can try opening Word by itself and going through recent documents to see if it shows up. If you opened it directly from the email and the email was in Outlook, you might be able to find it in the Outlook Secure Temp Folder. To get to this folder, the easiest way is to send yourself a PDF file, open the PDF from the email then go to File | Properties and on the General tab (this is from memory, so I might be off a little bit) you'll find a location that you can click on. In this folder, you have a slight chance of finding the modified file. The only other option you have, that I can think of, would be digging through your temp folders hoping to find a .tmp or .doc file in there that has the content, but I give that about a .01% chance of happening. Good Luck!

hello dear sir
I have the problem with my printers in my office . the printers are HP laser jet 1300 and 2035.
my problems is : After I print a document , printer does not stop and printing white papers until I stop print service or power down the printer.
whenI push ctrl+p  to print ,
some files like shockwave.shd appears in this address." c:\windows\system 32\spooler\printers". and these files never vanished unless i stop the print spooler.
I know that  : The following briefly describes the purpose
of SPL, SHD, and TMP files:

SPL files are the actual spool (print job) files.

TMP files are usually associated with LPR print jobs.

SHD files provide information about which printer the print job was sent to and from
whom the print job came. An SHD file is a "shadow" file that keeps track of what logical printer a (same number) xxxxx.spl file goes to. It also contains the file's order in the queue, the user who sent the file to the printer, and other information.
These files are usually deleted unless the logical printer settings state otherwise.
but these files  never vanished and untils these file were removed manually ,
printer cant print at all.
please help me .

If this can be done, is there a way to conserve the original format and the links in the excel doc?I would prefer leaving in excel but the customer needs a word document. Also, just in case I can convince to leave in excel -- is there a way to print the excel file as one document without printing each tab separately? If so, how do I ensure the formatting looks good to print as a regular 8.5 x 11 document? Thanks for any help.

Answer:Converting an excel document to word document

Depending of the size and shape of your Excel sheets can't you just open Word and Insert File?MIKEhttp://www.skeptic.com/

I am a teacher in Tennessee and I need to find a software that will enable me to edit and change a scanned document. I have some old tests and worksheets that I inherited from the teacher that had my room before me. I would like to make some minor changes to the documents without having to retype the entire set of documents. (Things like change the date and the teacher name on the heading, etc...)

Is there a software out there that will allow me to scan a document in and then alter it? These are not copyrighted materials, so that is not an issue.

Preferably, I would like a freeware or shareware or trial version of something to make sure I can navigate it before I shell out a chunk of cash to purchase something.

As a teacher, it is important to me that my materials look professionally done, so I would prefer to edit them on a computer rather than use white out and pen.

thank you so much

Answer:document editing of scanned document?

You can use OCR, i.e text recognition. I'm not 100% sure if Adobe Reader does it, but Adobe Acrobat Pro definitely does. There's probably a few other free alternatives out there as well.

Hi, I am trying to edit somethings in a XML document and save it as a notepad or wordpad document. I open it with notepad or wordpad and it allows me to make the changes. However, each time I save it after opening it in notepad or wordpad, it then reverts back to been a XML document.

Answer:XML document won't save as notepad document?

In Notepad/Wordpad, choose Save As and save it with a .txt extension, or else make a copy and change the extension of that from .xml to .txt

Greetings,

We have a DL380 G4 with two dual-core Xeon processors clocked somewhere between 2.8 - 3.2 GHz, and 4GB DDR2-ECC RAM (two sticks). This is a relatively new installation and deployment of Windows 2008 R2 x64 with the latest updates and service packs. The Print Services/Manager role is installed.

When printing through the Windows server to a Lexmark X340 in the office, it takes an unacceptably long time to print the jobs. When printing directly to the Lexmark X340 (instead of a shared local queue that exists on the Windows server), print jobs happen fast and normal. The employees have been timing how long it takes to print through the Windows server:

2012/1/18 Wednesday, 11 invoices = 10 minutes
2012/1/19 Thursday, 17 invoices = 21 minutes
2012/1/20 Friday, 24 invoices = 3 minutes (when printing directly to the Lexmark instead of going to the Windows server)
2012/1/23 Monday, 19 invoices = 25 minutes

This symptom is applying to everything the employees print -- not just the invoices or print jobs generated by the business program that we use called Britannia.

In addition to printing through the Windows server, they have to press the green button on the printer to actually have it print the current job. If they print directly to the printer, it prints automatically without requiring the green button to be pressed. I have tried setting the print processor to RAW [FF Auto] but it did not resolve the problem, so I set it back to RAW. Both x64 and x86 drivers are inst... Read more

Answer:Slow printing through 2008 R2 server, normal/fast printing directly to printer

1) get HP printers. Lexmarks suck
2) Here are my configs for lexmark printers on my server 2008 r2 boxes.
Printer Properties on the server.
Sharing tab -> Render print jobs on the clients = checked
Advanced tab -> spool print documents so program finishes printing faster = start printing immediately

however try changing that to "print directly to the printer"

Currently my printer processors are set to RAW.

I have a problem I have never seen before on serveral computers running Office 2000 Professional on Windows 98 SE. When you click print, the printer dialog box does not appear. Instead the title bar and the bar only the bottom begin flashing. If you click on the flashing bar the print box appears and it will print, but Word 2000 closes. Has anyone seen this before? I can't find a mention close to this anywhere on Micorsoft's Knowledge base or the Internet. It is somewhat intermittent but it now happens on several different computers. All have current Antivirus protection, latest Windows Critical updates. All systems have Office SP1 installed and some have SP2 and SP3 installed (it does not seem to make any difference).

Clean up the PC:

Troubleshoot Word:

If it still does it, it's the printer/printer driver.

I never had this problem before I purchased Vista, but I get some vertical stripes on the right edge of the paper. These stripes correspond to the lines of words, meaning if there is a line of words then there's stripes but no stripes when it's a blank line. (I got these exact words from another poster that had the problem exactly to mine except I have Vista and it prints when I print online on EVERY page) - just as it says above. I have an HP1018 that did not work until finally HP put out a driver for Vista a few months after I bought my Vista machine. I've tried the rotated feature, the fastres1200 as well. Nothing has worked yet. HELP! (I use Internet Explorer)
Oh, also, it prints these black vertical lines if it's a picture OR text and ONLY ONLINE - gmail, ie pages, etc. It is fine with Word, etc.

Have public workstations that we would like to print B&W only to a color HP Laserjet. Changed all the print queue settings to default to grayscale (changed this in a couple different spots within the queue). Well, when users print from IE, it still comes out color. Yet, when using Word or any other app, it comes out B&W like we would like. Can't figure out why IE is still defaulting to color. Any ideas?

Answer:Printing problems (wanting grayscale but still printing in color)

I have been using a network capable HP LJ 4050T, which i added an HP Network card too, for years as a network printer. I dis-connected it and moved it to a different location and now i can not get my pc to print to it.

I have win 7 64 bit. I have tried the universal drivers and the drivers built in to win 7 mainly HP Laser Jet 4050 PCL 5 and or the 4050 PS driver (all of which work for at some point in the past, but now no longer will do the trick). After installing the driver i can get the printer to add to the list of devises and appears to be installed correctly. I can ping the printer however when i try a TEST PAGE it will give error message "Error - Printing" very generic.

Frustrating thing is that i have this issue every time i disconnect the printer, it takes multiple tries getting it to connect (i.e. installing drivers and uninstalling, rebooting, re-setting settings etc.). I work at it for hours and then what seems to be by luck something i previously had done will work this time, or something i found online will work. however this time I've tried all those things and others without success. It almost seams that i have to trick the computer till it lets me print to it.

In the past i was able to get my Win XP laptop to print to it as well but i have not been able to re-connect this for over a year.

I found the previous post [SOLVED] Laser Printer HP4050 connect to network

From this post i, I have set up a static ip of 192.168.1.5 in my rou... Read more

Answer:Printing Error When printing to my networked HP LaserJet 4050

When you disconnected the printer did you turn both the computer and printer off and disconnect both from the mains power supply. There is no reason why they should not talk to each other if everything is turned off before one or the other is moved as it would be no different from turning them off, not moving the printer, then turning them back on again.

You don't say whether the printer/computers are hard-wired or wireless networked.

Have you tried going into a program like Word and hitting Ctrl-P and telling it to search for a printer? If the driver software is on the computers it should connect.
