Windows 7 is on rock solid track for RTM on July 13th

Question: Windows 7 is on rock solid track for RTM on July 13th

As TechARP.com reported, which is a very reliable source for information around Microsoft, considering their past glory on accurately reporting the release date of Windows XP SP3, Windows VISTA SP1/2, and lots of other major releases.

Update @ July 9 : Although there have been rumours that Microsoft might not make the earlier July 13 deadline for the RTM of Windows 7, our source indicates that Microsoft is firmly on track for the July 13 release date.

Preferred Solution: Windows 7 is on rock solid track for RTM on July 13th

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Thanks for the post...I am glad someone is mentioning something different right now...how credible are those sources...

I also want to mention that our (my most) trusted resource WZor has not said anything about not meeting that deadline

Through our sources close to Microsoft, we can now confirm that the Windows 7 RTM build that will be chosen over the next few days will be officially announced on July 13th, 2009, the same day as the WPC09 (Worldwide Partner Conference) will take place in New Orleans.
As I just mentioned, Microsoft is still in the process of testing and choosing from the RTM candidate builds as they need to ensure that all show-stopper bugs present in the OS have been eradicated to ensure as much of a smooth, bug-free release as possible. TechNet, MSDN, and other partner connections will be getting their hands on the RTM build shortly after, if not on the same day.
Ever since many got to experience Windows 7 with many of it?s new features and performance improvements particularly with 6801 and Rafael?s Blue Badge tool, most fell in love with the OS. Stay tuned for our in-depth Inside Windows 7 series, which will highlight and discuss many of 7?s improvements over Vista, along with our RTM build review complete with benchmarks once the build surfaces on TechNet.

Should I risk upgrading my new sony vaio laptop to windows 7?

It is currently my most stable machine and hate to mess with that ;)

BUT are the ''performance enhancements" worth the upgrade (it is free to me, as I recently got this particular laptop).

Thanks very much for any opinions and info.

Answer:Should I consider upgrade to Windows 7 from a rock solid/stable Vista 64 ?

I'd say if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Or the enemy of good is better. Take your pick. What OS are you running now?

I know many posts exist regarding setup but there seems to be even more with setup problems. Can those in the know suggest a rock solid, tried and tested arrangement to enable a desktop PC and a wireless enabled laptop to connect together and the net. Both operate WinXP. The telephone connection is downstairs and I wish to locate the desktop PC upstairs and the laptop as required.Future proofing would be an advantage. Many thanks Jim

Answer:Rock solid network?

My simple answer would be "No"!If you want a "rock solid" network then, I would suggest it needs to be "wired".The MIMO type of wireless hardware should be the most reliable, but bear in mind that any "high speed" wireless networking (i.e. speeds in excess of the 54Mbps 802.11g standard) is proprietary and requires compatible hardware from the same stable. The new 802.11n WiFi protocol, supposedly supporting 540Mbps, will eventually result in high speed hardware being compatible again.

Our reliable Dell 9100 is getting glitchy after 7 great years of service. I thought about a Dell XPS8100 or XPS9000, but the Dell forums are so full of horror stories, that I am reluctant to go the Dell route as the company has lost their perspective. I have a couple of builds that I use, an Intel DG965 running Vista Ult 64bit, and an MSI X48C Platinum running 7 Home Pre. 64bit. I can keep them running and enjoy doing so. My wife just wants to go to the computer and have it work 100% of the time. So I'd like to do a build that is as reliable as possible.

Basically she uses it for surfing, email, uses MS Word for docs, Skypeing with grandchildren.

Requirements:

Windows 7- 64bit OS
4GB memmory will do anything she needs to do.
I would like to have an HDMI connection including sound.
System board sound is perfectly adequate.
Fairly fast but need not scream.

If more information would be helpful, please ask. If you have a suggestion, please list all components you've used successfully.

I have a predeliction for PC Power and Cooling power supplies, but would consider other.
Case should be a Mid Tower with ports and switches at the top as it sits under a desk. But I can find cases on Newegg.
I am more familiar with Intel processors. I've never used an AMD.
Have primarily used ATI vid cards, and find the HDMI connection is available with them.
Thanks for looking,

Hi there, I plugged in a heavily infected USB drive on my win7 lappy. I m very happy to see that Avast caught the Autorun.inf viruses and did not let my PC get infected.

Then I performed a right click context menu scan and here are the results.

Detection.
Removal.
100% performance..
I feel totally secured with Avast 5 beta and Im sure it will move all the paid AV's to the trash. Under 10 MB RAM usage, Avsat 5 beta is all you need to secure your PC.

Answer:Avast gives you rock solid protection !

Couldn't agree more. The only thing I wish I could change is what I paid for both Vipre as well as ESET. It's not that I don't like those products, but with something like Avast for FREE, why would anyone pay for AV software?

I had a newer Lynksys wireless G (the one with the button of death on the front) and it was solid - unfortunately a VP needed it more then I did (my call actually, but keeping the brass happy is job one) older linksys Gs and Bs can be, shall we say tempermental, the B that I put back in the G's place sucks, connection last for an hour or two if that.

So I'm in the market for a good G router, recommendations are appreciated.

Answer:Recommendations on a rock solid G router

The same Linksys WRT54G....using latest firmware which fixed a lot of issues (a big bug in prior firmwares was it would reboot itself on huge LAN file transfers)

Although....any wireless setups I do these days are all done with Pre-N/MIMO routers...because in my experience with them...the increase in distance/range, and rock solid connections, really is worth the couple of bucks that they are. And you don't need a Pre-N/MIMO NIC on your computer to realize the increase in distance...heck early this summer I setup a large estate with a couple of Pre-N units overlapping..this summer estate was on a golf course at a club...I was walking down the golf course across this green with my IBM Stinkpad an a pre-historic Linksys B PCMCIA adapter...still connected and posting on a forum as a test. I was blown away by the distance. Pre-N/MIMO also has a way of drilling that wireless signal around corners, down halls, and into rooms, in offices/homes a lot better than prior G/B/A.

My experience with Pre-N/MIMO, as well as based on quite a few articles I've read, has shown that brands based on the Airgo True-MIMO chipset are the top performers. Linksys/Cisco, and Belkin, uses this. This is also most likely the chipset/standard which will become the official "N" when it's ratified.

I've had good luck with Linksys devices, I used to hate Belkin routers...but their G routers/WAPs are actually pretty good, matter of fact, pretty much the same hard... Read more

I'll try to keep this short, but the title just about sums it up: I'm looking for a very stable, no hassle, no crashing, no lockup 970 (?) setup for a DAW and a little video editing, based on a FX-8320 running Win7. NO GAMING, so this makes a lot of the usual considerations moot. Likewise, onboard audio and video. Sound will be handled by an outboard Lexicon interface and I'll use a dual-monitor video card I already have.

I've been reading everything I can for the past week, and if Newegg's vast trove of user reviews are to be trusted, I have about a 50% chance of major, hair-pulling problems, mysteries and DOAs, irrespective of MB brand, model or price. These are often attributed (correctly or not) to RAM incompatibilities -- and there aren't any current or useful RAM compatibility lists on the motherboard webpages. It's apparently just trial and error, which gets expensive and exasperating.

So, I'm looking for any tested recommendations that work for you.

All the MB features I really need are some external USB2/3 sockets on the board and maybe heatsinked VRMs as I may do some modest overclocking if it doesn't sacrifice reliability -- but reliability is what I'm after.

There only seems to be about a half-dozen or so readily-available MBs in this general category, and I'm sure they're familiar ones to you all.

I generally have good luck with my builds as I approach them extremely carefully. It's sort of uns... Read more

Answer:How to make XP system solid-rock stable

is this xp home or pro?

update all of your drivers. especially if you are running SP3.

remove any hardware that isn't necessary.

if xp pro, set to background services performance, instead of application performance.

is it just a file server for the local network or do you do ftp also. what's the dns updater and vnc for?

you give a lot of don'ts, not a lot to work with anyway.

Hello there,

I have two XP Pro laptops connected to my wireless router at home. One of them is a 5 year old Fujitsu Amilo 1505 Intel Core2 Duo with Intel 3495 wireless adapter. The other a new Fujitsu Lifebook AH531 Intel i5 with Intel Centrino Wireless N 1030 adapter. The connection of the old laptop seems very stable even when it is far from the router. The connection of the new laptop is very unstable.

I installed "connection monitor" on both and set it up to monitor the connection to the router (192.168.1.1). On the newer laptop the replay time varies from 0 to 10000 ms and connection seems to freeze and restart. Connection to the DNS is very slow and is often interrupted. On the old laptop I can see the replay time steady around 47ms however the number of brief disconnects is high without affecting the internet browsing experience though.

The router is set to a clean channel. The computer settings are almost identical and both adapters are updated to the latest drivers. The performance though is much different. Any ideas what could cause the new laptop (which was bought to replace the old) to have such a bad wireless connection?

Thank you in advance

I work from home as a developer and am a bit of a technophile. I am not, however, a competent network administrator. I know several and can have them help me set it up once I purchase it, but I would like to know what I'm buying and why I'm buying it beforehand.

I have a single WRT54G v5 that has treated me very well over the years. I have too many devices right now and I'd like to throughput of N, but have failed to find one that is measurably faster or as stable than my current equipment. Most recently I tried a D-Link DGL-4500 and regardless of hours of configuration, research and support I was left with slower-than-expected speeds and dropped connectivity about once a day.

I want to be able to stream media to all 3 BoxeeBox's simultaneously while browsing the internet on a few of my devices and I don't want to have to reboot my router daily or even weekly.

For reference, my device list:

3x iPhone
2x Macbook Pro
2x PC
2x iPad
3x BoxeeBox
2x XBOX 360
2x PS3
1x Wii

So far I have come to a preliminary conclusion that a solid setup for me would be a ZyXEL ZyWALL USG20 and 2 to 3 Ubiquiti UniFi AP's. While the USG20 does intimidate me, I have several solid network admins that have told me they'll set up the network for me and walk me through it.

I come to you, the hardest core networking guru's on the internet, for advice on this setup or if there is something newer/better I should go with.

Answer:Need advice on configuring a rock solid small network of around 20 wireless devices

Your preliminary selection is reasonable.

I'll tell you though that I hate wireless in general because it can be such a finicky tech, can be affected by so many different factors, and can expensive to do right. Wherever you can, I'd recommend connecting devices to the network over patch cables.

Also, if you have several devices in a single location (eg perhaps you have a TV that has a boxee,xbox,ps3 and wii) consider getting a single wifi bridge (eg Linksys WET610N) and putting several devices on a switch that way you reduce the total number of wireless devices your access point has to deal with.

Answer:Windows Media Player, Burned CD's only give me "track 1, track 2, etc.

You don't say where the album you are trying to burn came from. If it's one you previously ripped from a commercially published CD, does Windows Media list the track names? Or does it say 'unknown album' and just have track numbers? For an 'unknown album' it may help if you first right-click on the unknown album and select 'Find album info'.

Form factor dimm
Model K7S41
Memory type DDR PC2700
DDR PC3200 ( non ECC )
Max memory 2gb
Memory slots 2
1 available

do they have to be a matching pair? I realise that I will have to remove the 512mb. I still do not know which memory type to get, and would any make be compatible even if its two different makes, its so confusing with all the different types of memory. Any help would be appreciated. Many Thanks

Answer:As Rock PC windows XP Pro Desktop

Hi sue12,

This system just takes standard desktop memory.

The technical term for the 1GB modules you need is Unbuffered Non-ECC 184-pin DDR PC3200

You don't need to match the modules as such but if you want 2GB, you would be buying two 1GB modules anyway. It shouldn't matter what brand of memory you choose as memory is built to a standard so as long as it matches the above description it will work.

Most memory manufacturers let you select your system model so if you do a search for memory and K7S41 a few options should come up.

In the last few days I have had an unusual problem. I have an X60 Tablet (about 3 years old) with windows Vista Ultimate x86 and 4 GB RAM. The problem has only happened three times and only when I was on battery power. In each case the battery was well charged  (70 - 90%). In the middle of working, the screen suddenly changed to a solid color (blue once, orange another time, something else another time). No Windows keyboard combo seems to get me back to work. The first time, I powered down and then powered up again (while my heart pounded wondering if it would indeed, come back on). Everyting seemed fine after that. The second time, I used the Fn + F4 combo to put the laptop into sleep mode. Then I brought it out of sleep, logged in and I was right back to whatever work I was in the middle of. I used this same trick the third time. I haven't been able to find any related info searching in the forums or on the web. This is not a blue screen of death. It has the appearance of an LCD problem. Any ideas? Thanks

You dirty Windows pirates will have to live with a constant reminder of your crimes come Windows 10. Pirated versions of the new operating system will be stuck with a desktop watermark reminding users of their non-genuine status, Microsoft EVP of operating systems Terry Myerson said in a blog post today. The announcement comes after Myerson confused the tech world a few months ago by declaring that pirated versions of Windows could partake in Microsoft's free upgrade offer for Windows 10. It turns out that's not exactly true: The company later said that non-genuine installations would have to go through the Windows Store to upgrade to Windows 10, which was a strong hint that it would make pirates pay. Myerson notes today that Microsoft and its partners will offer "very attractive" genuine upgrade options for pirates.

I'm trying to save a batch of HTM files I created using Dreamweaver to a CD ROM for a Uni presentation next week. Originally, I was able to save them OK but then I found that I had to reroute the SRC links for the images on the versions of the files that I had copied to the CD.

After I'd redone this stuff, I tried to resave the CD files only to be told 'You do not have permission to save in this directory. See the administrator to obtain permission. Do you want to save to My Documents instead?'

After applying latest updates I noticed that all Office 2013 programs (Excel, Word, etc) take a long time to open. Does anyone else noticed this?
UPDATE: Restarted the PC and now the lag is gone, no idea what caused this.

Answer:Problem with October 13th Updates

I have another problem. After applying the latest updates and restarting, I get a blinking or flashing "administrator" icon bottom left in the taskbar. Starting the internet explorer or file explorer from the link in the taskbar is not possible anymore. Right click in the taskbar also produces no reaction.
I recovered to a restore point before the update, and all is fine. Did the update again, and the same problem happened.
Anyone can help me? Please, please!
(note: I also described this in the Windows 8 News subforum, but so far, no reply to my help call).

So I must be coming across as total idot but let me point out I have built a fair few computers in my time, and although not professional I do generally know I am doing so the I can only think it is because it is Friday the 13th I have had the following problems, please bear with me there is a point.

1) I install memory of 1gb. Despite it being compatible it fails and the computer wont post. i replace the memory all works except:
2) I Install a psu when its linked up to the DVD or HDD caddy the computer wont start
3) I install a new PSU - the system boots up for about 10 secs until I realise the cpu fan is not turning.
4) Not to worry becuase the HDD caddy has burst into flames, oh and the HDD has been totally fried.

now I am pretty sure I have tracked the problem back to the caddy, and the rest of the stuff should work okay, but I am at the point when I have to throw another block of money at the system to buy a new HDD. Is it really worth buying a new HDD just to find on install that the cpu was fried when the fan didnt work, etc etc. I can post to the monitor yippie, theres no smoke anymore, the cpu is recorded as a 3.2 and the memory is 1/2 a gb of DDR2. But I am not sure what the chances are of my rig having survived all its tribulations

What do you think chance it or bin it?

Current [pre fire] spec:
MSI PM8PM-V SKT775 AGP 6channel audio DDR2 mATX

Answer:Should I just bin this build. ARGH Friday 13th. Really need help

If it will post, you're part of the way there.... didn't we discuss the chance of some faulty wiring in the caddy or DVD a few days ago??? Hmmmm.... If I remember, you said the caddy OK Anyway, chances are all your parts are OK. Celeron CPU's don't reach critical temps too quickly, so if you at least had the heat sink on it and you powered down in under 7-10 seconds, it should be OK. The only way to know for sure is to hook up a HD (hopefully an older used one, just in case) and install your OS and software, and see how the thing runs..... good luck my friend

Oh, today is Thursday, the 5th of July.... you're still a week away from the 13th, right????

Bagle the 13th spread defies belief
By John Leyden
Posted: 15/03/2004 at 16:29 GMT

To nobody's great surprise, another Windows-infecting mass mailing worm began spreading over the Net last weekend.

Bagle-N is spreading rapidly and most anti-virus firms rate it as medium to high-level risk. Email filtering outfit MessageLabs has intercepted 11,105 copies of the worm since Saturday.

The worm normally spreads by email but it also capable of propagation across P2P file sharing networks. Bagle-N arrives in either a password-protected zip or rar file, and the password is either included in the body of the email, or in an image file attached to the email.

Apart from the image-file ploy (a minor 'innovation' in virus writing), Bagle is little different from its 13 predecessors - not least in the fact that it infects Windows PCs only.

Bagle-N commonly comes in email messages with variable subject and attachment names. The ‘from’ field of the email is spoofed so that it appears to come from a potential victim's sysadmin. Message bodies warn that the user's email account "might be disabled" or suffer some other odious consequence if a user fails to open an attachment.

If you open the worm's infectious archive file you may infect your PC. The worm disables many security software packages and includes a backdoor component which listens on TCP port 2556. Bagle-N scours the hard drives of infected computers for email addresses. It then se... Read more

Hi all,Have used the Google Toolbar with IE 6.0 for ages now and think its great. After a while of browsing today, I noticed that it had added some hearts to the background of the search box, and that the 1st O of the Google logo + the 'Search Web' icon on the toolbar had changed to hearts also. However, whenever I now double click the IE icon to launch the browser and connect to the internet, it doesn't launch the connect dialog box, says that it cannot connect, and askes me to click the 'try again' or 'work offline' button, none of which connect me to the internet. I have to manually connect by going to Start>Connect To>Freeserve Anytime. It's OK I suppose, but it's a pain. I've checked in Internet Options and Freeserve Anytime is listed as default and 'Automatically dial my default connection' is selected. I havent changed anything or added any new hardware or software, so it must be the Google toolbar. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, but it just changes itself to the valentines version almost instantly. How can I solve this? Thanks,Andrew P :o)

I am running Windows 7 with a relatively new HP Pavilion p6787c machine. I started receiving the BSOD on 7/13/2011. There were 6 updates published on 7/12/2011 that are listed as important updates. The BSOD shows up during the install, not after the update is installed but while it is in the middle of installing the video screen flashes a bunch of colors then the BSOD appears. I then have to re-boot into the safe mode and roll back the machine to the previous state. I have disabled the automatic updates and am trying to figure the cause but with no luck - does anyone else have this problem? Please Help!

Not quite. As I read it "As of July 28, 2016, all new device models, lines or series (or if you are updating the hardware configuration of a existing model, line or series with a major update, such as CPU, graphic cards) must implement and enable by default TPM 2.0 (details in section 3.7, https://msdn.microsoft.com/library/windows/hardware/dn915086(v=vs.85).aspx)" This applies only to new designs, not existing ones. My brother in law downloaded W10 some time ago and reverted to 8.1 having had a problem with some files . He has just asked me the following question:
As you know I currently have Windows 8.1 installed on my PC.
Some time ago I downloaded the free issue of Windows 10 and installed it on my PC. I found it difficult to find all the existing information that was previously saved on my 8.1 version so reverted back to 8.1. The update to Windows 10 is still in my Windows update folder. After 29th July will I still be able to re-install Windows 10 even though the free update offer will have been closed?

I understand he is getting W10 notifications or updates so Microsoft are seemingly think he is a W10 user. Does he have to decide to switch to W10 and would he lose W 8.1 or can he keep both versions on the one machine?
Any advice greatly appreciated
Dagwood

Answer:Both Windows 10 and 8.1 on a PC. Is a choice necessary before End July

If he has installed W10 on his machine before 29 July then the machine will have the digital entitlement recorded for activation of W10. It is my understanding that his machine will then automatically activate for any future installations of W10 even after 29 July. The only thing that could impact this is if he changes the hardware such as the motherboard, he would then lose that digital entitlement and the automatic activation would fail. ( A phone call might sort it out but I am not sure how well that would work).

Microsoft has officially begun requesting that users running Windows 98, 98 SE and Millennium Edition (Me) upgrade their operating system as soon as possible. The Redmond company will cease all public and technical support for the products on July 11, 2006, including all security updates.

Customers are being notified of the impending deadline, which was moved from January 16, 2004 to provide extra time for those still running legacy systems. No-charge incident support and extended hotfix support for Windows 98 and Me previously ended on June 30, 2003 and December 31, 2003, respectively.

Microsoft will continue to provide Windows 98 and Me help topics through its Web site until at least July 11, 2007. However, without additional security updates, customers will be left unprotected from potential vulnerabilities.

With the launch of Windows 10 less than a week away, here?s what you can expect to find when the operating system launches on July 29. It?s not quite as simple as ?Windows 10 will be available that day.?

Windows Insiders (read: Windows 10 preview testers) will get first dibs when Windows 10 launches on July 29, while everyone else will see a staggered roll out over the following days. In other words, if you haven?t yet ? reserved? your free upgrade from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, now would be the time to do so. Microsoft recently began offering reservations through a pop-up message in the Windows notification center.

Microsoft says it will use the rollout to check compatibility and to ?listen, learn, and update the experience for all Windows 10 users.? However, the company notes that ?the vast majority? of PCs running Windows 7 and higher should be fully compatible? though the compatibility checker doesn?t recognize Nvidia?s Windows 10-compatible GeForce GTX 980 Ti graphics card. As a reminder, all users running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 can get a free upgrade to Windows 10 within a year of the July 29 launch, after which the price will be $119.

The AMD exec was speaking on a recent financial conference call when she let slip the fact that Microsoft was looking to get the OS out in time for the back to school promotions. This, which fits in nicely with previous moves from the company, will ensure that Windows 10 has a high adoption rate out of the gate. Plus a massive launch of a new OS will be an exciting event for both partners and the public.

Answer:Windows 10 to launch at the end of July, according to AMD

Hope this announcement is for desktop OS. For phones, I expect a lot from them. This is too early. If July release is true, I highly doubt about adding new features with upcoming TP builds before July. Because just 2-3 builds in between and they gonna be bug fixing and UI polishing updates.
And.. They said win10 will bring drastic changes in mobile OS market. Till now, WP 10 is very much a 8.1 with few add-ons.
There is no WOW part in WP10..WP need it to take over the phone market.

It's 3/13/2009 and I'm returning from a sevice call where the most
awful thing occurred. Computer was running slow. It had AVG v8
and Lavasoft AdAware and I ran a quick scan with SuperAntiSpyware
which came up clean. I uninstalled RegCure and Security Advisor.
I deleted Temp files and Temp Internet Files.

Upon rebooting the PC, and coming up to the Windows XP desktop,
a dos style cmd window popped up which indicated that hundreds
of files were being deleted.

Upon further investigation, I discovered that all the Favorites from
IE were gone and only the empty folders remained. Outlook
Express Email was wiped clean, all the video and picture files were
also deleted.
I'm currently trying to recover all the lost files using PhotoRec with
the hard drive slaved to another clean computer.

Question is, what caused this to happen?
Is this a Friday the 13th type virus or was it caused by RegCure or
Security Advisor?

i've been cleaning computers for many years and never saw
anything like this before that targets all your most critical data
and deletes it. Wow!!

Any ideas?

Answer:Don't Upgrade to Windows 10 on July 29 from PCmag.com!

Wrote a bunch to this but, have to start over cus I forgot BC doesn't work very well in Edge, yet.  I've been told it will soon so, looking forward to that.
No idea if someone is going to tell you it's in the wrong place but, nice to have an opportunity to comment on it.  But, @ least it will be noticed.

The one valid bit is Win10 is going to be very popular and countless people all over the Globe are anxiously awaiting the 29th.  However, (DUH) Microsoft, certainly, knows this, already.  (1) The "reserve the Download" is brilliant, people who take it are smart and those will have '1st dibs', so to speak. According to winfuture.de a known microsoft source told them that MS is readying to finish Win7 with a deadline for RTM on the 10th of july!
Therefore they now have a RTM escrow fork in the builds now.

Rock on MS!

Got 10 updates for my E520 1143-3NG Windows 7 64bit Home Premium. On first run 8 updates have failed (the 2 that didn't fail were MRT and Defender updates).5 updates KB 2973337, 2961072, 2972280, 2973201, 2966583, 2971850 failed with error : 800F0826 (Microsoft : we don't know exactly what's going on).3 updates KB 2973337. 2962872, 2973351, which include IE10 critical 28 patches, failed with error : 8007054F. After removing the 3 updates from the list the first 5 updates manage to install.Microsoft's support suggestion to run the 3 updates in clean boot failed as well. It seems to me that the culprit is with the ancient 2 years old hybrid graphics driver that prevent upgrading to IE11, and probably prevents these IE10 updates as well.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2872074/en-us Another "great" suggestion was to uninstall AMD Catalyst and graphic driver which I didn't follow.

Speculation on the deadline at which Microsoft will release Windows 7 to manufacturing not only abounds but also continues. It all started early in June 2009, when Microsoft revealed that it planned to launch the next iteration of the Windows client to the public on October 22. At that time, Brandon LeBlanc, Windows communications manager on the Windows Client Communications Team, stated that ?Release To Manufacturing (RTM) is an important milestone on the path to GA. We anticipate that we?ll be able to make the RTM code for Windows 7 available to our partners sometime in the 2nd half of July. We also expect to be able to make RTM code for Windows Server 2008 R2 available to our partners in this time frame as well.? Now the Redmond company is saying that Windows 7 RTM will be closer to the end of July.

My pc wasn't working at i's best (it was lagging) so i decided to refresh the system. When i was back on to my laptop as normal all the updates were uninstalled and after i installed them there was no sign of the reserved windows 10 update that i reserved 2 weeks ago and no sign of the logo on the notification tray.

Answer:If you refresh your Pc before Just before 29th July would you still get Windows 10?

Your PC probably didn't complete all of the Windows updates required to get the Windows 10 installer stub back in your system tray.
You don't need the system tray icon, you can manually kick off your Windows 10 installation by using the tools at this page. Windows 10 ISO
Click the Download tool now for your system, choosing whether you have a 32 bit or 64 bit PC. It will let you download and install Windows 10.

This week's Windows updates include an update to MSE. If you are using MSE and find that there is a update that is taking a very long time to install, check the Taskbar for an icon asking permission to update MSE. Keep clicking on through the Wizard and then the updates will finish.

Hi,

As long as you follow the steps on the enclosed link will to get the ticket will this work for a free upgrade after the 29th July ?

Answer:Windows 10 Install after the 29th July

No, not after the deadline, not for free anyway.
What you can do now is to make full system backup, upgrade existing system or do clean install as described and make sure W10 is activated. You can return to your previous windows by using backup. Only after that you'll be able to install W10 any time after deadline but than you wouldn't even need to enter any key.

I upgraded to Windows 10 from Windows 7 in July, 2015 using the ISO from Media creation tool. Now for few reasons I had to revert back to factory settings i.e. Windows 7. Again I installed the ISO of previous year and eventually it is not receiving updates. Now, my question is "If I want to install latest build after the official launch of Anniversary Update, Will be able to install it on my laptop?" Which is after the 1 year free upgrade period?

Answer:Can I reinstall Windows 10 after 29th July?

You can reinstall Windows 10 anytime on hardware that it has once been activated on. Just don't change your PC (add memory/change CPU etc)

I?d like to offer up a little insight into the ?Release to Manufacturing? (RTM) for Windows 7.

Over the past week, there have been many rumors surrounding RTM.

We are close, but have not yet signed off on Windows 7. When we RTM you will most certainly hear it here. As we?ve said all along, we will RTM Windows 7 when it?s ready. As previously stated, we expect Windows 7 to RTM in the 2nd half of July.

Windows 7 will be available in many languages from around the world. For us to consider RTM ?done?, it requires that all languages be completely finished. So there is a lot of work that needs to take place for us to finalize all languages of Windows 7. We also need to get to a point of ?global readiness? with our partners. Our partners being ready for Windows 7 is extremely important to RTM. As Steven Sinofsky mentions in this blog post in May, RTM isn?t a single point in time. It?s the beginning of the next ?process? for Windows 7. At RTM our partners begin their final preparations for Windows 7, including testing and building images for new PCs. RTM is essentially the final ?stage? of engineering for Windows 7 before it hits the market at General Availability (GA). As Steven notes, engineering continues on Windows 7 from RTM until GA on October 22nd.

Another thing to keep in mind is that when we do a specific build internally of Windows 7... Read more

My son bought a computer with Windows 7 a few months ago then upgraded to the free Windows 10. His computer got a virus and he has reinstalled Windows 8 because we had a system disc for another computer - his computer did not come with a system disc and he did not make a back up when he bought it. He would like to put Windows 10 back on it but the upgrade is no longer free. Is there a way to do so without having to pay for the upgrade?

Answer:Reinstalling Windows 10 after July 31, 2016

Have you tried upgrading to Windows 10 ? If the laptop had a valid installation of Windows 10, then you should be able to install it again as the product key is tied to the hardware that was used while upgrading, as long as it is the same laptop, it should work, unless I am mistaken.

Support for Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) will end on July 13, 2010. This date was established when Windows XP Service Pack 3 (SP3) was released on April 21, 2008.
This announcement is in line with the Microsoft Support Lifecycle policy for Windows service packs. This policy states that when a new service pack is released, Microsoft will provide 24 months of support for the previous service pack for products that belong to theWindows product family.

My experience so far on my Carbon X1 I downloaded the release version, did an upgrade of Windows 8.1: Seemed fine, but my DisplayLink wouldn't work. Downloaded/installed new Windows 10 drivers, laptop is hosed. It boots, but when I log in it crashes. I've tried everything, safe mode, disabling drivers, including DisplayLink. Trying a clean install. -Robert

It's July 29. The Windows 10 rollout officially has begun.july29.jpgWindows Insiders are getting the final (Build 10240) bits and a bunch of recent updates and fixes downloaded to their PCs starting today. It may still take weeks for everyone who has "reserved a copy" of Windows 10 to get it, Microsoft officials have warned. My ZDNet colleague Ed Bott has a helpful Windows 10 frequently asked questions (FAQ) post worth checking out.But that's not the only thing happening today. What else is going on?It's July 29. Do you know where your Windows 10 (and Office Mobile) bits are?

Answer:"It's July 29. Do you know where your Windows 10 ([...]) bits are?", ZDNet

I don't care, I have a crappy 5mb DSL connection and yet my PC just completed the upgrade process from Windows 7 in around 45 minutes.

As you may already know, Windows Phone 8.1 was showcased by Microsoft in early-April. The presentation was shortly followed by the introduction of three smartphones running the new tiled operating system, namely Nokia Lumia 630, Lumia 635 and Lumia 930, of which only the first has launched.

Because Windows Phone 8.1 is a huge upgrade over its dated predecessor, Windows Phone 8 users, naturally, want to know when the upgrade will officially roll out. The latest iteration is already offered to members of the Preview for Developers program, but, believe it or not, not to the Windows Phone 8-toting public, who makes up for the large majority of Windows Phone customers.

Microsoft India reveals, on Twitter, Windows Phone 8.1 is set to roll out to existing users, who own compatible smartphones, in the first half of July.

I used reservation app before July 29 to confirm Windows 10 install and accepted choice to have install done 3 days later. Checked later on July 29 for status and was informed "your reservation in confirmed , install will be done on date and time reserved". But now find that app has disappeared. Also find that install was attempted on July 29 but failed.
Microsoft seems to have given me false commitments? Since install was attempted but failed can I have this re-attempted?

Answer:Windows 10 Reservation Disappeared After July 29

What was the reason it failed?
It's probably worth contacting Microsoft.

AMD?s CEO has said that Windows 10 will ?launch? in July, a casual utterance that may or may not reflect the current thinking in Redmond.

But assuming she wasn?t just making air-shaped noises, let?s consider the horrible, unready quality of Windows 10 today and wonder aloud how Microsoft could possibly make this July date. I have a theory.
First, the quote.

During an earnings conference call with press and analysts, AMD president and CEO Lisa Su answered a question about processor inventory in the coming quarters like so.

?With the Windows 10 launch at the end of July, we are watching sort of the impact of that on the back-to-school season, and expect that it might have a bit of a delay to the normal back-to-school season inventory build-up.?

Now, launch is a very specific word. It?s different from ?RTM,? or ?release to manufacturing,? the term we typically use to describe the completion of a software product, even though there is no real manufacturing process per se anymore. RTM isn?t launch?it precedes the launch by some number of weeks or even months?but in Microsoft?s world, RTM isn?t really even the final milestone in a product?s development lifecycle. Indeed, with OS products in particular, RTM is just a step down a path.

So launch is a curious word.

Answer:Thinking About a Possible July Launch of Windows 10

my plans for win10 is to get the free copies installed in all of my computers, create a drive image, delete it then put linux back on all of my computers :-) I may leave one computer as a dual boot.

my only question is, why would the amd president say it will be july. could she mean that is when it will be available to the manufacturers?
