CONFIRMED: Windows 7 RTM To Be Announced July 13th

Question: CONFIRMED: Windows 7 RTM To Be Announced July 13th

Through our sources close to Microsoft, we can now confirm that the Windows 7 RTM build that will be chosen over the next few days will be officially announced on July 13th, 2009, the same day as the WPC09 (Worldwide Partner Conference) will take place in New Orleans.
As I just mentioned, Microsoft is still in the process of testing and choosing from the RTM candidate builds as they need to ensure that all show-stopper bugs present in the OS have been eradicated to ensure as much of a smooth, bug-free release as possible. TechNet, MSDN, and other partner connections will be getting their hands on the RTM build shortly after, if not on the same day.
Ever since many got to experience Windows 7 with many of it?s new features and performance improvements particularly with 6801 and Rafael?s Blue Badge tool, most fell in love with the OS. Stay tuned for our in-depth Inside Windows 7 series, which will highlight and discuss many of 7?s improvements over Vista, along with our RTM build review complete with benchmarks once the build surfaces on TechNet.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Good day,

I have an Hp desktop running Windows 7 sp1 Home edition..   started auto update on the 13th,  when i got home later that day it was stuck at 33 percent or so.  left overnight 10 hrs.   no progress.  Shutdown and restarted not a great option but, unit would not do anything else..   Now it tries to install for an hour then does a roll back to previous. It will finish that after 1-2 hours. Then go into shut down.. will never shut down left it for 24 hours no result.. restarts and will be in the loop.  Safe mode same results.   If I can avoid rebuilding it would be great but.

Thanks

Answer:Windows 7 SKU's announced

It feels like they're going back to the XP lineup.

I like how they're optimising it(or at least it sounds like it), for hardware that isn't new, unlike Vista which went full out for new systems, and even overboard for some of the computers it came out on.

Seems like they're learning from their mistakes, and going back to tried and true methods.

In a security advisory , Microsoft acknowledged that a bug in SMB (Server Message Block), a Microsoft-made network file- and print-sharing protocol, could be used by attackers to cripple Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 machines.
The zero-day vulnerability was first reported by Canadian researcher Laurent Gaffie last Wednesday, when he revealed the bug and posted proof-of-concept attack code to the Full Disclosure security mailing list and his blog. According to Gaffie, exploiting the flaw crashes Windows 7 and Server 2008 R2 systems so thoroughly that the only recourse is to manually power off the computers. Confirmed: Windows 7 Zero-day Bug

Looks like Microsoft has after all of these years finally gotten the number of Windows versions solved. There's only three and they make perfect sense.

http://windowsteamblog.com/windows/.../04/16/announcing-the-windows-8-editions.aspx

So Windows 8 will be the edition that the vast majority of consumers will get. Windows 8 Pro will be the business edition with domain capability and business security features. The big difference on the x86 side of Windows 8 looks to be the exclusion of Media Center in the core product. Seems to be available only to the Pro version as a at cost add-on, so it looks as though Media Center's days are numbered with isn't surprising considering the rapid shift to internet content, but at least its still an option and hopefully it will still work with CableCard. And of course there are licensing fees that Microsoft will no longer have to pay for in every copy of Windows for Media Center as well, so it's really as much a cost saving move as a right fitting of how content is now delivered which has changed radically in the decade since the release of Media Center.

The most interesting version for many will be Windows RT, which is the ARM version that only comes with ARM devices and isn't a standalone product. The most interesting aspect to Windows RT is the inclusion of Word, Excel, Powerpoint and perhaps the most important app in that suite for tablets, OneNote. However no Outlook and no mention of it at all, not even as a... Read more

First Windows 7 Zero-Day Exploit Confirmed by Microsoft

Microsoft confirmed the existence of an unpatched zero-day vulnerability that affects Windows 7 & Server 2008 R2, though they are downplaying the risk. MS says that most users would be protected from the attack if they block two ports at their firewall. Right, because most consumers know how to block ports at their firewall. Glad to hear that MS isn?t too worried.

Microsoft said it may patch the problem, but didn't spell out a timetable or commit to an out-of-cycle update before the next regularly-scheduled Patch Tuesday of Dec. 8. Instead, the company suggested users block TCP ports 139 and 445 at the firewall. Doing so, however, would disable browsers as well as a host of critical services, including network file-sharing and IT group policies.

A 17-year-old Windows bug was disclosed by a Google Engineer. It is located in the Windows Virtual DOS Machine (VDM) which is introduced in Windows NT. That was Microsoft?s first fully 32-bit operating system.
64-bit versions of Windows are not affected. An advisory was released by the company on how to disable the VDM as a way to protect users from hackers who may try to hijack their PCs.
According to the advisory, ?An attacker could then install programs; view, change, or delete data; or create new accounts with full user rights.?

Businesses switching to Windows 10 for Enterprise won't be getting the operating system as a free upgrade within the first year of release and it will be updated differently as well.

Back in October, it was reported that Microsoft was working on a lock-down update system for Windows 10 business users and it seems that it will be implemented in the Enterprise version of the operating system.

According to Microsoft's latest blog post, the company's free Windows 10 upgrade offer won't cover the Enterprise version of the OS which is provided to software assurance customers. It has also been revealed that updates would be delivered to Enterprise customers differently as well.

Enterprise customers will have a thoroughly tested version of Windows 10 as compatibility with existing hardware and older software is a critical requirement of businesses. Microsoft will maintain two branches for such customers, one being the Long Term Servicing Branch and the other would be the Current Branch for Business.

The Long Term Servicing branch will continue to get latest and greatest security updates and enterprise grade support, but the feature updates that will be pushed to normal customers will not be provided during the support lifecycle of the OS. This branch is aimed at businesses who cannot compromise on stability and can do without the cutting edge features.

Businesses opting for the Current Branch on the other hand will be able to get the feature updates from the ... Read more

Microsoft today announced Windows 7 retail pricing, upgrade information, launch details, and a preorder deal. The software giant has reduced the price on its most popular retail Windows product, the Home Premium upgrade version, by approximately 10 percent (this varies based on the market). In the US, this means a drop from $130 to $120, a savings of $10. For the Home Premium full version, the price drops from $240 to $200. Those are the only differences when comparing Windows Vista prices to Windows 7 prices after Microsoft made cuts in In February 2008 (compared to the ones announced in September 2006).

Hi All,
I used this forum quite a bit for the past few days, so I made a commitment to share my experience if my upgrade worked out. Here is what I can tell you:

The upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10 for the Dell XPS ONE 2710 (mid-2012) computer worked without a flaw.

Here are the details:
1. I have a Dell XPS ONE 2710. I purchased it with Windows 7 and even had the TV Tuner card installed back in early 2012.
2. Today I installed Windows 10 over Windows 7. No issues reported (so far). I used a stop watch to time everything.
3. Here is the process:
4. First downloaded the Media Creation file from Microsoft
5. Ran it, it took about 10-15 minutes to download the files, etc
6. When it came it installing windows 10 screen it took 8 minutes
7. Then it goes to a black screen which says Upgrading Windows. It took a grand total of 48 minutes to finish this and it did 3 reboots by iteself.
8. This part had 3 phases (copying files, install features, configure settings). The last part took 10 minutes, the other 2 parts took 38 minutes. Therefore total time to install and configure was 48 minutes as per step 7.
9. Then it went to a pink screen with the sign-in. I was worried my video drivers were hosed, but that was just windows being fancy. This part took 3 minutes and it includes setting up your apps., Then you will get the cobalt blue screen which indicates you are in.
10. As a prerequisite to all of this I did go to Dell.com and download many updates include the NVIDIA driv... Read more

Windows 7, the next major release of the world's most popular operating system, will be officially available to the public on 22 October.Microsoft is hoping it can avoid the negative press that surrounded the launch of Vista, the last major Windows release, almost three years ago.Windows 7 has been designed to be compatible with Vista so users do not have to invest in new hardware.Customers who buy a new PC with Vista will be offered upgrades to Windows 7.Quoted Story - http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/8081003.stmLooks like Microsoft rushed it through a bit quicker than was anticipated, if I remember right originally it was forecast for the 1st Quarter of 2010, then a few weeks ago it was forecast to come out around the Holiday Season (USA) which is after or around Thanksgiving I think? (last week in November) and now it is out a month earlier than estimated a few weeks ago.I haven't tried it myself so don't know what it is like other than what I have heard, I might buy it around or after Christmas and upgrade the Vista system on my Laptop, would help the Start-Up/Shutdown sequence on it takes quite a while for my tastes, about 45 seconds start-up (before logging in) and about 1 min to shutdown although I've cut the shutdown to about 30 seconds with a small tweak to force programs to close down quicker.EDIT: Should have checked before I posted, seems someone posted it last night - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/231213/windows-7-release-date-announced/, Seems to... Multiple Windows 9 reports have suggested that Microsoft is considering releasing the upcoming platform as a free download to certain existing Windows users. Some said that Windows 8 will get Windows 9 free of charge, while others claimed the company is also considering some sort of special offers for existing Windows XP users. A report from Indonesian online publication Detik said earlier this week that President of Microsoft Indonesia Andreas Diantoro has confirmed this particular Windows 9 feature.

FROM EARLIER: Windows 9 can?t come out soon enough for Microsoft
According to Diantoro, the Windows 9 upgrade will be available free of charge to all existing Windows 8 users once it?s released. Apparently, users will be able to easily install the Windows 9 update after downloading it from Microsoft, which is how Apple?s OS X updates have been rolled out to Macs for a few years now. For what it?s worth, some of the recent Windows 9 leaks did say that Microsoft already has a tool in place that will allow users to easily perform software updates.
It?s not clear whether other Windows users who are on older versions of the OS will get any other special offers, and actual prices for Windows 9 have yet to be revealed. Microsoft is reportedly interested in moving many people from the older, and no longer supported, Windows XP and offering Windows 9 as a free download might be a great incentive for some.
Microsoft is going to soon unveil Windows 9 and release a... Read more

According to Trend Micro, Apple will no longer be providing security updates for QuickTime for Windows, leaving this software vulnerable to exploitation.
[In particular] The Zero Day Initiative has issued advisories for two vulnerabilities found in QuickTime for Windows.
Computers running QuickTime for Windows will continue to work after support ends. However, using unsupported software may increase the risks from viruses and other security threats. Here?s the email that was forwarded to me from our loyal reader Theodore. I did make a WHOIS check to make sure that it was Sinofsky himself. Location was indeed from: United States Redmond Microsoft Corp.

Confirmed: Windows 10 Creators Update (Redstone 2) to Launch in April

The Windows 10 Creators Update is still in the works at this moment, and there are rumors indicating that Microsoft is aiming for an April release if testing and bug fixing go according to the plan.
And while Microsoft remains completely tight-lipped on its Creators Update timing plans, Dell, which is currently one of the most important partners of the Redmond-based software giant, revealed that launching the new OS update in April is indeed what the firm is aiming for.

Any other details are not yet known, but if Windows 10 Creators Update, internally called Redstone 2, launches in April, there?s a good chance it?ll be labeled version 1704 in order to correspond with Microsoft numbering strategy that aligns versions with release dates.

Previously, it was believed that the Creators Update would launch in March, with some people saying it could be finalized as version 1703, but now it looks like the company pushed the release back for one month and it?s aiming for April to introduce the new OS.

New hardware coming alongside Redstone 2?
What?s also interesting to note is that Microsoft could use the April unveiling to present its latest hardware as well, with some sources pointing out that Redmond could take the wraps off the next-generation Surface Pro and Surface Book models alongside the Windows 10 Creators Update.

The Surface Pro 5 and the Surface Book 2 are both expected to see daylight in ... Read more

Hi, I was on another forum here at BC, I pasted all my logs and he said I have a rootkit infection...Topic referenced is here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/266522/windows-enterprise-defender-messed-up-my-os-cant-find-task-manager-etc/ ~ OB I have already done the DDS scan...but I did it two days ago and have fiddled with my computer a little since...with no luck... So I will paste the report from 10/23 and do another right now. It's still on my desktop.I downloaded Norton Internet Security (have a subscription) it got rid of some stuff. it's still on.I tried to download Spyware doctor and it won't run.I've tried to follow a lot of different directions for locating files, dlls, registries...etc. and removing them. So, what is still wrong with my computer is:I can't bring up the task manager, cont-alt-delete doesn't work, nor does cont-shift escp, nor does choosing it from the taskbar on the desk top. I can get to regedit from the run box but the task mgr is not there. (I have since located, copied and renamed a file and opened my task manager, but nothing seems to be amiss there.) it still won't open from the task barAnd it won't let me run AVG (which is currently not installed) nor the spyware doctor.A... I'm trying to save a batch of HTM files I created using Dreamweaver to a CD ROM for a Uni presentation next week. Originally, I was able to save them OK but then I found that I had to reroute the SRC links for the images on the versions of the files that I had copied to the CD.

After I'd redone this stuff, I tried to resave the CD files only to be told 'You do not have permission to save in this directory. See the administrator to obtain permission. Do you want to save to My Documents instead?'

Saving to My Documents just sends me back to square one concerning the srcs.
The administrator of my home network says that she hasn't been given any permission codes for this sort of thing.

Do you have any ideas how to solve this problem?

The last Spybot u/d was 13th September. There have been a number of Ad-Aware updates since this date. Is it just one of those things, or should users be worried. As you know (probably) there was a time when Ad-Aware updates stopped whilst they were developing Version 6.

Answer:Last Spybot u/d 13th September. Should we worry ?

Gandalph are you there?Someone has to detect new "threats" to make sure they are real and no diubt do a few tests to make sure all is ok.Then they release a new update! On the other hand maybe there is nothing new out there so no update needed.

So I must be coming across as total idot but let me point out I have built a fair few computers in my time, and although not professional I do generally know I am doing so the I can only think it is because it is Friday the 13th I have had the following problems, please bear with me there is a point.

1) I install memory of 1gb. Despite it being compatible it fails and the computer wont post. i replace the memory all works except:
2) I Install a psu when its linked up to the DVD or HDD caddy the computer wont start
3) I install a new PSU - the system boots up for about 10 secs until I realise the cpu fan is not turning.
4) Not to worry becuase the HDD caddy has burst into flames, oh and the HDD has been totally fried.

now I am pretty sure I have tracked the problem back to the caddy, and the rest of the stuff should work okay, but I am at the point when I have to throw another block of money at the system to buy a new HDD. Is it really worth buying a new HDD just to find on install that the cpu was fried when the fan didnt work, etc etc. I can post to the monitor yippie, theres no smoke anymore, the cpu is recorded as a 3.2 and the memory is 1/2 a gb of DDR2. But I am not sure what the chances are of my rig having survived all its tribulations

What do you think chance it or bin it?

Current [pre fire] spec:
MSI PM8PM-V SKT775 AGP 6channel audio DDR2 mATX
Intel Celeron D 352 (3.20GHz) Socket 775 FSB533 512kb Processor

Answer:Should I just bin this build. ARGH Friday 13th. Really need help

If it will post, you're part of the way there.... didn't we discuss the chance of some faulty wiring in the caddy or DVD a few days ago??? Hmmmm.... If I remember, you said the caddy OK Anyway, chances are all your parts are OK. Celeron CPU's don't reach critical temps too quickly, so if you at least had the heat sink on it and you powered down in under 7-10 seconds, it should be OK. The only way to know for sure is to hook up a HD (hopefully an older used one, just in case) and install your OS and software, and see how the thing runs..... good luck my friend

Oh, today is Thursday, the 5th of July.... you're still a week away from the 13th, right????

After applying latest updates I noticed that all Office 2013 programs (Excel, Word, etc) take a long time to open. Does anyone else noticed this?
UPDATE: Restarted the PC and now the lag is gone, no idea what caused this.

Answer:Problem with October 13th Updates

I have another problem. After applying the latest updates and restarting, I get a blinking or flashing "administrator" icon bottom left in the taskbar. Starting the internet explorer or file explorer from the link in the taskbar is not possible anymore. Right click in the taskbar also produces no reaction.
I recovered to a restore point before the update, and all is fine. Did the update again, and the same problem happened.

Bagle the 13th spread defies belief
By John Leyden
Posted: 15/03/2004 at 16:29 GMT

To nobody's great surprise, another Windows-infecting mass mailing worm began spreading over the Net last weekend.

Bagle-N is spreading rapidly and most anti-virus firms rate it as medium to high-level risk. Email filtering outfit MessageLabs has intercepted 11,105 copies of the worm since Saturday.

The worm normally spreads by email but it also capable of propagation across P2P file sharing networks. Bagle-N arrives in either a password-protected zip or rar file, and the password is either included in the body of the email, or in an image file attached to the email.

Apart from the image-file ploy (a minor 'innovation' in virus writing), Bagle is little different from its 13 predecessors - not least in the fact that it infects Windows PCs only.

Bagle-N commonly comes in email messages with variable subject and attachment names. The ‘from’ field of the email is spoofed so that it appears to come from a potential victim's sysadmin. Message bodies warn that the user's email account "might be disabled" or suffer some other odious consequence if a user fails to open an attachment.

If you open the worm's infectious archive file you may infect your PC. The worm disables many security software packages and includes a backdoor component which listens on TCP port 2556. Bagle-N scours the hard drives of infected computers for email addresses. It then se... Read more

Hi all,Have used the Google Toolbar with IE 6.0 for ages now and think its great. After a while of browsing today, I noticed that it had added some hearts to the background of the search box, and that the 1st O of the Google logo + the 'Search Web' icon on the toolbar had changed to hearts also. However, whenever I now double click the IE icon to launch the browser and connect to the internet, it doesn't launch the connect dialog box, says that it cannot connect, and askes me to click the 'try again' or 'work offline' button, none of which connect me to the internet. I have to manually connect by going to Start>Connect To>Freeserve Anytime. It's OK I suppose, but it's a pain. I've checked in Internet Options and Freeserve Anytime is listed as default and 'Automatically dial my default connection' is selected. I havent changed anything or added any new hardware or software, so it must be the Google toolbar. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, but it just changes itself to the valentines version almost instantly. How can I solve this? Thanks,Andrew P :o)

Answer:Windows 10 shift to TPM 2.0 in July

Not quite. As I read it "As of July 28, 2016, all new device models, lines or series (or if you are updating the hardware configuration of a existing model, line or series with a major update, such as CPU, graphic cards) must implement and enable by default TPM 2.0 (details in section 3.7, https://msdn.microsoft.com/library/windows/hardware/dn915086(v=vs.85).aspx)" This applies only to new designs, not existing ones. Microsoft has officially begun requesting that users running Windows 98, 98 SE and Millennium Edition (Me) upgrade their operating system as soon as possible. The Redmond company will cease all public and technical support for the products on July 11, 2006, including all security updates.

Customers are being notified of the impending deadline, which was moved from January 16, 2004 to provide extra time for those still running legacy systems. No-charge incident support and extended hotfix support for Windows 98 and Me previously ended on June 30, 2003 and December 31, 2003, respectively.

Microsoft will continue to provide Windows 98 and Me help topics through its Web site until at least July 11, 2007. However, without additional security updates, customers will be left unprotected from potential vulnerabilities.

The AMD exec was speaking on a recent financial conference call when she let slip the fact that Microsoft was looking to get the OS out in time for the back to school promotions. This, which fits in nicely with previous moves from the company, will ensure that Windows 10 has a high adoption rate out of the gate. Plus a massive launch of a new OS will be an exciting event for both partners and the public.
Windows 10 to launch at the end of July, according to AMD
3 months.

Answer:Windows 10 to launch at the end of July, according to AMD

Hope this announcement is for desktop OS. For phones, I expect a lot from them. This is too early. If July release is true, I highly doubt about adding new features with upcoming TP builds before July. Because just 2-3 builds in between and they gonna be bug fixing and UI polishing updates.
And.. They said win10 will bring drastic changes in mobile OS market. Till now, WP 10 is very much a 8.1 with few add-ons.
There is no WOW part in WP10..WP need it to take over the phone market.
Please MS don't break my hope :(

With the launch of Windows 10 less than a week away, here?s what you can expect to find when the operating system launches on July 29. It?s not quite as simple as ?Windows 10 will be available that day.?

Windows Insiders (read: Windows 10 preview testers) will get first dibs when Windows 10 launches on July 29, while everyone else will see a staggered roll out over the following days. In other words, if you haven?t yet ? reserved? your free upgrade from Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, now would be the time to do so. Microsoft says it will use the rollout to check compatibility and to ?listen, learn, and update the experience for all Windows 10 users.? However, the company notes that ?the vast majority? of PCs running Windows 7 and higher should be fully compatible? though the compatibility checker doesn?t recognize Nvidia?s Windows 10-compatible GeForce GTX 980 Ti graphics card. As a reminder, all users running Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 can get a free upgrade to Windows 10 within a year of the July 29 launch, after which the price will be $119.

As of July 28, 2016, Microsoft will require compliance with TPM 2.0 for Windows 10.  See TechNet https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/itpro/windows/keep-secure/tpm-recommendationsAcer Aspire S7-392-6807 laptops shipped with TPM 1.2 modules that will be non-functional in Windows 10 after July 28.  What steps are being recommended by Acer to upgrade the modules to TPM 2.0?

Answer:Windows 10 shift to TPM 2.0 in July

Not quite. As I read it "As of July 28, 2016, all new device models, lines or series (or if you are updating the hardware configuration of a existing model, line or series with a major update, such as CPU, graphic cards) must implement and enable by default TPM 2.0 (details in section 3.7, https://msdn.microsoft.com/library/windows/hardware/dn915086(v=vs.85).aspx)" This applies only to new designs, not existing ones. M$ is unlikely to suddenly dump legacy devices, only an edible fruit does that.

My brother in law downloaded W10 some time ago and reverted to 8.1 having had a problem with some files . He has just asked me the following question:
As you know I currently have Windows 8.1 installed on my PC.
Some time ago I downloaded the free issue of Windows 10 and installed it on my PC. I found it difficult to find all the existing information that was previously saved on my 8.1 version so reverted back to 8.1. The update to Windows 10 is still in my Windows update folder. After 29th July will I still be able to re-install Windows 10 even though the free update offer will have been closed?

I understand he is getting W10 notifications or updates so Microsoft are seemingly think he is a W10 user. Does he have to decide to switch to W10 and would he lose W 8.1 or can he keep both versions on the one machine?
Any advice greatly appreciated
Dagwood

Answer:Both Windows 10 and 8.1 on a PC. Is a choice necessary before End July

If he has installed W10 on his machine before 29 July then the machine will have the digital entitlement recorded for activation of W10. It is my understanding that his machine will then automatically activate for any future installations of W10 even after 29 July. The only thing that could impact this is if he changes the hardware such as the motherboard, he would then lose that digital entitlement and the automatic activation would fail. ( A phone call might sort it out but I am not sure how well that would work).

I am running Windows 7 with a relatively new HP Pavilion p6787c machine. I started receiving the BSOD on 7/13/2011. There were 6 updates published on 7/12/2011 that are listed as important updates. The BSOD shows up during the install, not after the update is installed but while it is in the middle of installing the video screen flashes a bunch of colors then the BSOD appears. I then have to re-boot into the safe mode and roll back the machine to the previous state. I have disabled the automatic updates and am trying to figure the cause but with no luck - does anyone else have this problem? Please Help!

Answer:July 12 Windows 7 BSOD!

Hi -

Check the Windows Updates that came in - were any for video?

Go to HP Support and make sure most recent video drivers are installed - http://www8.hp.com/us/en/support-drivers.html

It's 3/13/2009 and I'm returning from a sevice call where the most
awful thing occurred. Computer was running slow. It had AVG v8
and Lavasoft AdAware and I ran a quick scan with SuperAntiSpyware
which came up clean. I uninstalled RegCure and Security Advisor.
I deleted Temp files and Temp Internet Files.

Upon rebooting the PC, and coming up to the Windows XP desktop,
a dos style cmd window popped up which indicated that hundreds
of files were being deleted.

Upon further investigation, I discovered that all the Favorites from
IE were gone and only the empty folders remained. Outlook
Express Email was wiped clean, all the video and picture files were
also deleted.
I'm currently trying to recover all the lost files using PhotoRec with
the hard drive slaved to another clean computer.

Question is, what caused this to happen?
Is this a Friday the 13th type virus or was it caused by RegCure or
Security Advisor?

i've been cleaning computers for many years and never saw
anything like this before that targets all your most critical data
and deletes it. Wow!!

Any ideas?

Hello.

Personally, I avoid reg cleaners. Some members of TGF agree with me; some TGF members agree with you. Some of us like apple pie. Some of us do not. I am not trying to trivialize decisions about reg cleaners.
No antimalware program will catch each piece of malware. SAS is good. If SAS updates their definitions and the computer encounters a new malware that hit the streets at 1201, poof, the PC is infected.

Keep us posted.

My son bought a computer with Windows 7 a few months ago then upgraded to the free Windows 10. His computer got a virus and he has reinstalled Windows 8 because we had a system disc for another computer - his computer did not come with a system disc and he did not make a back up when he bought it. He would like to put Windows 10 back on it but the upgrade is no longer free. Is there a way to do so without having to pay for the upgrade?

Answer:Reinstalling Windows 10 after July 31, 2016

Have you tried upgrading to Windows 10 ? If the laptop had a valid installation of Windows 10, then you should be able to install it again as the product key is tied to the hardware that was used while upgrading, as long as it is the same laptop, it should work, unless I am mistaken.

As you may already know, Windows Phone 8.1 was showcased by Microsoft in early-April. The presentation was shortly followed by the introduction of three smartphones running the new tiled operating system, namely Nokia Lumia 630, Lumia 635 and Lumia 930, of which only the first has launched.

Because Windows Phone 8.1 is a huge upgrade over its dated predecessor, Windows Phone 8 users, naturally, want to know when the upgrade will officially roll out. The latest iteration is already offered to members of the Preview for Developers program, but, believe it or not, not to the Windows Phone 8-toting public, who makes up for the large majority of Windows Phone customers.

Microsoft India reveals, on Twitter, Windows Phone 8.1 is set to roll out to existing users, who own compatible smartphones, in the first half of July.
