I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I was having some serious issues with my Sony Vaio (VPCYB13KD Canada) so I decided to do the Sony version of a clean install. Basically it takes all the software from a partition and makes your computer run like it's 'factory fresh'.

It fixed all my issues but for some reason my bluetooth has completely vanished. Yes, I've tried downloading the drivers from the Sony site but for some reason they won't appear. It goes through the whole process and says it was successfully installed but in the program list it's not there.

Also, it is does not appear in the Device Manager list (unknown or otherwise) and there is no option to send files when right clicking them. It is as if the bluetooth component of my laptop has vanished! I'm completely sure it works as I was using it this morning. Some software has gone haywire and it's driving me nuts.

Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Nevermind, there isn't a physical switch but when you download the SmartWi driver, you can turn it off and on virtually. By default, Bluetooth is off.

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-N220E Laptop. It came pre-installed with Vista Home 32Bit OS. I upgraded to Vista Ultimate 32 Bit OS. Before I upgraded, the bluetooth showed up in device manager, now it does not.
I looked on the Sony support page for Bluettoth drivers, but did not find any. When I look in system Info I find the device (BTHmodem Bluetooth Serial Communications Driver) But it is disabled. Can anyone help me on how to enable this driver?
Thanks

Hey friends. So my issue is my internal bluetooth radio is not being recognized at all on my computer. Device manager shows nothing having to do with bluetooth, dev manager has no yellow exclamation marks either, new drivers do nothing, new WIDCOMM software does nothing... I had my logitech MX-5000 desktop working perfectly in vista on this very computer with the internal radio. I upgraded to 7 and I've had this issue.

Hi and welcome

If it worked on vista and is the same hardware it should work in win 7. More often than not it is the driver. What model radio, computer, 32bit or 64? etc

Upgraded my Sony Vaio SVE15115ENW to Windows 10 Home. Now, I am unable find the Bluetooth option in settings menu. Have downloaded and installed the Atheros drivers as well as Intel drivers for Bluetooth from Sony website. But nothing helped. There's nothing in the device manager.
Earlier, The get windows 10 app did not show any compatibility issues.
Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:No Bluetooth option in settings in Sony Vaio

It is working OK and tested on both of my Sony Vaios although Sony has a warning not to upgrade to Windows 10 until they publish Windows 10 drivers in August or September. Check your Sony Vaio manager tool and there is a warning there on my systems that has a link to their Windows 10 page. Don't recall my model number, but they are i7 with 17" screens.

At the moment I'm looking after a Sony VAIO VGN-SZ48GN with Windows Vista Business 32-bit preinstalled and am looking to in-place upgrade this to Windows 7 Professional 32-bit.

Currently the machine has the Toshiba Bluetooth stack installed and Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor says that for some Bluetooth components it doesn't know if there is an update for Windows 7 and for others that there is a "free" update available from the manufacturer ("Toshiba").

However I know that updates from Toshiba are free only for Toshiba laptops and Sony has no sight of a Windows 7 driver anywhere. I think based on the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor that I have version 5.0 of the Toshiba Bluetooth stack currently installed.

Does anyone have any experience upgrading these VAIO machines to Windows 7? Will Bluetooth work seamlessly after an upgrade or is there more to it?

Bluetooth is the only reason that I'm wary of upgrading to Windows 7, otherwise the upgrade advisor gives a completely clean bill of health.

Any thoughts based on real experience appreciated. Thanks!

Ok done a search of my keyboard problem and not found thesame as mine. I am using a Sony Vaio 24inch touch screen all in one pc Model number SVL24115FGB the keyboard Model isVGP-WKB12 – same model as the one in the link below

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/UK-Wireless-Keyboard-VGP-WKB12-Sony-SVL241-series-desktop-p-n-149037921-/290934544696

After five months of use the keyboard space bar was notworking on one side, so I rang Sony up and they said to bring it in, they sentme a replacement keyboard and I followed the instructions to a tee as toconnecting it to my pc but to no avail.

· Checked that drivers where up to date and theyare (so it says)

· Typed in model number to download drivers forthe keyboard (just in case windows was lying to me) but its saying model is nolonger available (from Sony site – for both pc and keyboard)

· Checked to see that the blue tooth devices wherelisted on my computer as up till I sent the keyboard away all had been workingas regards to connection - nothing was listed there?

· Went to add a device (manually) this did notwork despite keyboard been detectable (according to instructions)

· Went to check that battery’s where charged fullybefore I put them in (suggested cause as to why they sometimes don’t connect oninstructions – put batteries in charger over night till I got a green light as Ihad not used them for a while, and tried again, still not working)

The pc still has the 64 bit Windows 7 Home premium OS on it,that came with it,... Read more

my sony vaio's built-in bluetooth is not working. im using windows 7 32-bit. what am i gonna do?? ( i already tried "services.msc" but still it is not working. im too desperate of fixing this thing. please help me

Answer:sony vaio's built in bluetooth not working with windows 7

Hello roxiedg and welcome to Seven Forums.

Before trying to add a bluetooth device in windows 7 there are a couple of things you need to do.

- Make sure that wireless is enabled on the laptop (my Sony has a switch on the front). Bluetooth is wireless and, typically, when that switch is turned off, all wireless is turned off as well including 802.11a/b/g/n and also Bluetooth.
- Make sure that any proprietary software you have that controls power or wireless function has Bluetooth enabled.
- You may also need to update the bluetooth driver for whatever device you're trying to install. I'd suggest the device manufacturer's web site.

Hey guys,

so I bought a used VGN-NR110E on craigslist for cheap. It already had Windows 7 installed on it even though it originally comes with Vista... However, there were a bunch of files on it so I wanted to format + reinstall Windows 7 ultimate.

I put in the disk and the installation went well, up until the last stages... it checked the video performance and prepared my desktop for first use... and then it just said "logging off" and "shutting down"

When the computer restarted, it didn't boot windows, just went straight to VAIO recovery. In there, it gave me the option to scan for hardware related problems... I did just that and there were no issues. There was also an option to restore C to factory Vista, but I really hate Vista and that is my last resort on this laptop.

I ran startup repair multiple times to see if there was any errors, but everything looks fine.

edit: I also burned the W7 DVD again, this time at 4x and I'm still getting the same error. I've already tried it about 5 times, and every time it goes through the same final stages and then shuts down, then goes to recovery.

The weird thing is, when I load up Windows Boot manager, it doesn't even have Windows 7 for me to choose, even though it is installed... only the Vaio Recovery is available to boot.

oh and the laptop didn't come with a battery so I'm using it connected to the power supply... would that have anything to do with it?

Any input would be greatly... Read more

Answer:Installed W7 on Sony Vaio laptop, but does not boot!

Okay, so I deleted the recovery partition altogether(probably a bad idea) to make sure it doesn't boot to it anymore... and now when I boot, it just gives me this:

So I got extremely tired of Vista's slowness after a whole year of using my Vaio VGN-FZ21M and decided to install a custom stripped out release of XP to enjoy my supposedly fast laptop to it's max.
My first surprise came in the form that all the drivers from Sony's site were for Vista only. I had to scrape deep, after a frustrating call to my local tech support who knew nothing, to find suitable drivers from a number of places.
I'm still missing a few pieces, I'm fairly sure my card readers dont work and stuff. Had to use cracked .infs to get my video card to show some performance...

My current main problems are as follows:

For some reason after being idle for a long time the LCD goes off and when I wiggle the mouse it wont come back on. To be precise, the backlight doesnt light up, because if I flash a flashlight to it, I notice the pixels are working, just not backlit. I tried a registry fix I found somewhere and I thought I had it cracked, but when I returned home today I found the problem was still present.

Secondly for some reason my uTorrent client says it's port is blocked. I have another XP computer in the same network (connected also via WLAN) and I mapped the ports for that one, no problem. However with the laptop its like Windows Firewall was blocking the darned program, but the firewall isnt even included in this bundled XP.

Any ideas on these two? I'm sure I'll come up with more problems as I try to shape XP to work on a Vista designed lappy.

Answer:Installed XP to a Sony Vaio, chaos ensued.

I would like to remove Sony pre-installed programmes that I never use - such as:Sonic StageMastering Studioetc etcand especially the screen saver which endlessly goes through screen after screen of stuff that I don't want to see.Could anyoe with a similar machine advise me on what is safe to remove please?

Answer:Sony Vaio Laptop - Remove pre-installed programmes

We've a Sony desktop and two Vaio laptops so I know what you mean ! The screensaver is easily solved - Start/Control Panel/Display/Screen Saver, turn off or select another option. The pre-installed progs can be removed via Control Panel/Add-Remove programs. However, a word of caution. I used to prefer the third party apps I was familiar with e.g. Easy CD etc but found CD burning seemed to work better with Sony's versions. Sonic Stage is a music management solution (their version of iTunes if you like) and is necessary if you have a Sony mp3 player. If not, delete it.I'd now be wary of removing anything related to your day to day activities (or future ones) as the pre-installed apps do seem to be optimised to the hardware. If they're not running at start up you've no overhead leaving them on, and can always remove shortcuts if you're looking for a "cleaner" desktop. In other words, they're still there, but not "in your face".If they've no relevance to your PC use, you could remove them one by one and see how it goes ? I presume you have the Vaio restore discs ? If so you can always go back.Hope this helps ?Mike

Hi All,

just to say sorry if it was covered somewhere also but i did try to serch the forum with no results .

i got sony vaio laptop vgn-fs series which came with pre-installed windows xp home edition and some other vaio branded stuff. i dont find it very useful and to be honest i dont want to have it on my pc. i bough myself proper windows xp home edition and was trying to install this to my machine with no sucess.

if i put the cd in, it does not boot at all. the pc just start up. so i though i will change the booting sequence in BIOS with no luck again. even though i have changed the sequence it still does not boot the CD but skips it and starts up. secondly i created recovery cd's with windows xp which came with my laptop and was trying to re-install the system. all was good unitl i tried to skip the instalation of customization with vaio branded stuff. the machine would not start up and asked me to insert the 2nd cd with custumization. once i allowed my laptop to finalize installation i have got again windows xp home edition with million additional vaio software that i do not want.

i am sure there must be way to install clean version of already costing me 60 quid widnows i would really appreciate if someone could help me with solving this issue.

cheerz,

cudo

Answer:Installing 'clean' Windows XP to Sony Vaio with pre-installed XP. How to ?

Enter BIOS ( Setup ) and set the first boot device as CD/ROM. Put your XP Disc in the drive and disconnect all external peripherals,

If you are using an upgrade version installation CD, you'll also need a CD with an older operating system ( Windows 98SE or Windows ME ) to complete the install. Also Make sure you have the 25-digit product code for the Windows XP CD.

Once you set your BIOS to boot first from cd . . when it restarts you will see a black screen with a prompt "Press any key to boot from CD" . . do that and you will be able to delete any or all partitions and recreate one or more, then proceed to formating and installing XP.

That message can pass quickly, so have a finger on the keyboard when you boot. This will delete all data on the drive so be sure you have your important data backed up. The prompt will appear after every reboot, but do not press any key on subsequent reboots. The setup process will continue with no action required from you.

If you are installing on SATA drive, there is an additional step:

http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org/how_do_i_install_windows_xp_on_a.htm

This is a site that walks you thru a simulated XP installation:

These are good guides to reinstalling XP . . you might want to print one for reference during the install.

I have a bluetooth headset that already paired but it is unable to use because there is no audio services to work with. When I run the troubleshooting for my sound, it couldn't identify the problem. In my device manager, the bluetooth audio is gone (it used to be there) and i also have many unknow device that related to bluetooth. I used to played with registry when i was trying to fix something else, maybe that the cause, but when i run the Sfc /scannow, notthing seems wrong. I have been searching solution for this problem for a month and yet, notthing works. Please help, im using sony vaio Model # SVS15116FXB. I also tried to download some drivers from the sony sites, but they are useless.

Answer:No Audio Output Devices is Installed- Sony Vaio

I would uninstall all the unknown and Bluetooth devices listed in the Device Manager. Leave that off until you get the basic sound going again. Restart the PC after uninstalling all the Bluetooth and unknown devices.

If the PC's sound device is enabled in the BIOS, Windows should detect it and install either the regular drivers or at least the generic, basic function, HIgh Definition Audio Drivers (Codec). If its not being detected and installed, the first thing is to check the BIOS. If its disabled in the BIOS then Windows will not see/detect it. If its enabled in the BIOS, reinstall the Intel motherboard chipset drivers. One of the things the chipset drivers do is define (identify) all the devices on the motherboard. This too affects whether the sound can be detected.

Im trying to install windows 7 Ultimate on a SONY VAIO VPCL235FL, but i got a message that says:

Windows cannot be installed to disk 0 Partition 1"
The issue is that my old hard disk died and i had to buy a new one, now i have this problem.

I've already checked the bios to be in in legacy/compatibility mode. Actually the only option is UEFI= Disabled or Enable
is set to disabled so i guess it is in legacy mode.
Even with that option disabled i can get to install Win7.

It is a brand new disk, so it doesnt come with partitions, so i created a new one with the total size. It says primary partition, but the system is not making the reserved system partion (100MB).

No matter what i do i still get the message and cant install the O.S.

is it a issue of motherboard?

Originally the computer came with win7. So i dont think the OS is the problem.

Is it a driver issue?

I've also converted the disk partition to MBR.

thanks for your help

Friend downloaded and installed Windows 10TP, not sure of the build. The machine is a Sony Vaio Tap-11 Tablet, Model SVT 112A2WL originally purchased running Win8. I have a feeling that windows 10 was installed over Windows 8 somehow. The tablet will not boot into windows at all. Receive error message: "Operating System Not Found". I used the built-in "Assist"button located on the back of the tablet. Tried all of the scenarios recommended by the MFR with negative results. The tablet has a USB port which i was able to use for an external drive hoping that maybe i could boot into an ISO file of Win10TP that i made previously on a DVD. Negative results. I am unable to even get a good command prompt for further troubleshooting. Any ideas out there. Cheers and beers

Warning, I am NOT a computer person at all, but have spoken to some and tried several repairs. I have a Sony VAIO VPCEA24FM laptop, running windows 7 64-bit and the sound has randomly stopped working (made no changes to anything that I know of). There is a red circle with an x in it on the volume icon on the taskbar, and when I hover over it it says "No Audio Output Device is Installed." However, when I open the device manager and click under sound controllers, Intel (R) Display Audio is listed and if I click on it, it says this device is working properly.

I tried to update the drivers and it says I have the most up to date. When I open sound on the control panel it says no audio device is installed and even when I right click and click "show disabled devices" nothing is shown. I have tried microsoftfixit, and it doesn't help. I have also tried to download the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver from the Sony website, and it downloads and installs and then a window comes up that says it may not have installed properly, and asks, "reinstall with recommended settings?" i click ok and it gives me a message that says, "This update can only run on Microsoft Windows Vista, Microsoft Windows 7" and all there is is an "ok" button, which i click, and it does not reinstall. HELP I'M AT MY WIT'S END!

Answer:Sony VAIO laptop "No Audio Output Device Installed"

Hello and welcome Samark had a look at the Sony site and you might try this for the audio driver, as I prefer to go to manufacturers sites rather than the Device Manager which I personally don't find all that reliable.

So, this is what happened:

1. A pendrive infected with virus was inserted (unknowingly)

2. Malwarebytes scanned and removed them. After removing asked me to restart, which I did.

3. I remember some system32 folder files were shown as infected but I dont remember exactly the names.

4. After reboot, I got vaio splash screen and then just a black screen. Nothing else!

What I have tried so far:

1. Tried the "unplug battery and power plug, then press the power button for a minute or two and then connect just the power plug (not battery) and boot" thing, didnt work.

2. Tried the assist button. But the first option named "start troubleshooting (recovery)" option restarts the laptop and again after the vaio splash screen, I get the black screen.

PS: The only way to get to see the 'boot into safe mode, network mode, etc" options is through that assist button. It doesnt work! I can however access the bios options.

3. Tried booting ubuntu live from a flash drive and it worked successfully. However, when I tried to open the windows paritions within the ubuntu live usb drive, it said they were "unclean drives"and failed to mount them.

4. So, I tried the Bitdefender rescue cd and scanned the whole system. It found 1 infected file (although it was more like a potentially unwanted program or something, not a malware or serious virus.)

5. Also, tried a windows 8 installation disk but it too would not boot. Tried a windows install... Read more

Hi Folks, This is my first post. so go easy on me;-)

I switched on my PC after 1 year of no use(apple imac distracted me for a while).
The message "operating system not found" appears when it boots up. I put in the Sony Recovery disk, bit it could not read it. As Sony didn't provide a spare copy of XP, how do I get back up and running? Do I have to change the motherboard battery? any advice much appreciated.

I Hope you Christmas is Merry and peaceful.

Answer:Sony Vaio Desktop PCV-RX305 Windows XP now missing, no disks supplied by Sony

Call Sony Tech Support if you are the registered owner or buyer. They will provide a disk set for a small fee ($27) for six years after purchase, or until they run out.
Your only other choice is to buy the disk online at some place like ebay, or buy Windows Home (still available for $82) or Windows XP Professional for $135.
The motherboard battery should not be bad, but if it is, you can get a replacement (CR2032) at Wal-Mart ofr $3.67 or on eBay for $2.58.
The recovery disk may be good, and it is your optical drive that has gone bad.

Hi Guys
i have SONY VAIO VPCEB4C5E,
After Having Liquid Spilled on my Screen, it was not working for few hours,
then i took to local repair and they did it worked, so everything is working fine. However i doubt that, when i press Power Button, it tooks about 7-8 seconds to start loading SONY LOGO and then WINDOWS 7 comes up, as i remember, Before it got spilled, and prev time, on pressing power button, it was loading LOGO immediately max 1-1.5 sec, i'm afraid.

This is happening at shutdown as well, after pressing shutdown, firstly a Black screen appear for a few seconds and then my vaio is shutting down., I guess there is something changed in Bios, maybe by Local repairers.

Please be advised, Thanks, Levan.

Answer:SONY VAIO Slows At Start Up, Before SONY Logo Loads.

If I'm understanding correctly, your Vaio is taking about 7-8 seconds longer to start. At shutdown you're getting a black screen and it's taking a few seconds longer than what you're used to. But is everything else in between (opening programs, searching on the internet, etc) working OK?

If it is, my first reaction is to say don't worry about it. I have a VPCEB47GM and it takes about 10 seconds for the Sony logo to appear and about 50 seconds total to be able to use Windows 7. On shutdown I usually get a black screen for about 5 seconds but the rest of the shutdown process takes about 30 seconds to finish.

Do you know what your BIOS settings were before you took the machine into the repair shop? If you do, you could compare them to how the BIOS is set now. But if you don't know how the BIOS was originally configured, I wouldn't be changing anything.

I'd like to reinstall Windows 98 on a Sony Vaio N505VE, but it requires a Sony CD drive. When I purchased the laptop 4 years ago, it came with a Backpack CD-Rom Drive. A few months ago, I researched online and I seem to recall a website that gave instructions on how to reinstall Win98 without the Sony drive, but I can't find it anymore. Does anyone know how I can do this?

Thanks,

then i tool to local repair and they did it worked, so everything is working fine.

This is the first time contacting Sony support. After waiting for over 1/2 hour, finally a person comes online. I spend another 20 minutes giving him name, address, etc and then I find out that it is "paid support".

After an online chat and trying to contact Sony support, maybe the only solution is to trash the Sony Notebook and buy a Dell. Does Dell still provide support?
The problem is "no sound from the computer". I have spent 4 hrs this morning downloading and checking for updates to all the sound drivers.

Any suggestions?

Answer:No sound Sony Vaio and No Sony Support

I hear the same complaints from Dell users on the Dell forum and from users of other brands. They are all equally lousy on support or want you to pay for it. e.g. "software" support on a Dell is separate from any warrnty or maintenance contract which only covers hardware. You get "free" software support for the first 30 days only.

Back to the sound problem. We need more info to try and assist. e.g. what sound do you have (if you know), etc. You didn't fill out all the needed System Specs. What have you tried? e.g. have you checked the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound panel to see if your "speakers" (sound card) is set as the default playback device?

Hi there,

I am using a Sony PD 170 DV camcorder hooked up via 4 pin firewire to a Sony Vaio laptop. I am also using Avid Composer video editing software. The problem is that I can see the video from Avid in the viewfinder but it freezes in the viewfinder even though it is playing on the computer. This is preventing me from outputting a project. Do I need a driver for this camera?

Thanks,
Paul

I just set up win 8 on my computer and was going thru the process of connecting my bluetooth mouse and my bluetooth keyboard. My mouse connected automatically, no problems. When I went to connect my keyboard I got the usual prompt asking you to enter the code, but the code was not accepted no matter how many times I tried. I know for a fact that this keyboard works, because it works fine on my Win 7 OS on the same computer. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated

installed intel ac-3160 dual band + blue tooth in a Sony notebook system wont allow blue tooth to start.
also there is no interface available to connect any hardware to it, i know it has something to do with some Vaio software on the system.
it allows me to use dual band mode and it shows that blue tooth is present but disables it claiming interference with 2.4 GHz band.
now i have had blue tooth dongles installed working while using 2.4 GHz band before with no issues, so i don't get the issue now.
any input would be appreciated.

I bought a Vaio in 2002 and i left it in my car the other day on accident. It may be a coincidence with leaving it in the car, but now it doesnt go past the SONY screen before it says "MISSING OPERATING SYSTEM." This is one of several messages im getting seeing that ive tried starting it 100 times. It will also say......

"SMART failure predicted on HARD disk 0: (then it has a heart symbol here). WARNING:immediately back up your data and replace your hard disk drive. A failure may be imminent. "

Sometimes when it has this message, instead of having the heart symbol after the begining.....it will have "IBM-DJSA-220-(PM)"

Im not sure what any of this means. I was given system recovery CDs with the computer and most of the time when i try to run them it says "program terminated." One time it DID go through with the system recovery, but when it restarted the computer........after the sony screen it said missing operating system again.

Now.......somehow after turning computer on and off a million times, one time it just decided to come on. Is there anything that i can look at now since the computer booted up to try and figure out whats wrong. I have the strangest feeling that if I turn it off again it will not reboot.

One time while running the recovery discs it came up and said

"The hard drive is not partitioned. THis utility creates DOS partitions and restarts your computer. If you see this message agai... Read more

Your hard drive is about to die. That is what S.M.A.R.T is made for is error detecting on your hard drive which is a very good feature. I would backup right now all your important data while you can before it is to late. Then install a new hard drive and see if that cures all your problems.

Question: Sony Vaio VGC-M1

Does anyone have any experience of the above computer?
I have one that won't boot into windows, I have gone through the recovery process and gets part way into booting into windows and then reboots itself. I have tried reloading Windows Xp on its own and again it reboots at the same spot.
I have fitted some new memory but this made no difference, this model seems to be a bit of a hybrid as it uses some laptop parts and some desktop parts. I suspect repairing it will be expensive, does anyone have any suggestions?

Question: my pc vaio sony

My pc is a black page, with operating sistem not found. It's Vista.
I can do nothing to open it
What can I do.
I have de cd for the recovery

thank you
Brijou

Answer:my pc vaio sony

Operating System not found means hard drive error. Some spots on the HD cannot be read during bootup.

Here's how to boot up your system using Linux to rescue data:

Go here to download Ubuntu 10.04 ( There is a newer version, but I am going by my existing setup, so follow along and choose 10.04 ) http://old-releases.ubuntu.com/releases/lucid/ Save the iso file.

Then download ImgBurn from here: http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download

Install ImgBurn and run it.

Choose "Write Image to Disc"

At the top of the Imgburn window, where it says "Source" click on the folder with maginfying glass icon; Then navigate to where you saved the ISO file.

Then click on the bottom area of the window depicting hd write to CD.

That should create the CD.

Now you want to boot with the CD on your PC. Check your BIOS so that it chooses to boot using the CD first. You are looking for the Boot menu, boot priority, or something along that line.

Once you boot into Ubuntu, pull down the Places pull down menu. Choose the ## GB Filesystem. That would be your hard drive. You will be able to see all folders in your drive. Now copy off the files you want to a USB memory stick.

Question: Sony VAIO

To start i apologize if this in in the wrong section.

Right i have just signed up after hours looking on the internet to still be out of luck on fixing my laptop.

I got a 2nd hand Sony VAIO (PCG-71311M) from a friend, so i was in the stage of cleaning all the data off from the laptop, selected "restore factory settings", but now everytime i turn the laptop on i get a black screen with "Operating System Not Found_".

My friend did not have any form of recovery disk or Windows 7 disk, only otherthing apart from the laptop itself is the charger.

What can i do to get the laptop back up and running? Any help is greatly appreciated!

thanks.

Edit: To add i have clicked the F10 key until i get "Edit Boot Options" clicked Enter and then get the VAIO Care Rescue screen. I have try to start recovery but it gets to 6% and then stops.

Answer:Sony VAIO

Recovery typically doesn't work at all without the recovery discs.

At this point, I'd suggest purchasing the retail version of the OS of your choice, and installing fresh.

Question: Sony Vaio?

yes yes, its over priced I know.

but I like their styling and specifically the SZ and the new SR and Z series
(c'mon weighs in @ 4lbs and got a discrete gfx card(although weak) and was one of the thinnest nb before mac air came along... count me in)

I've got the SZ but recently a fan just went berserk... like super loud all the time
before it was quiet...

what do you guys think?

open it up and check it out?
or drop it like its hawt and get a new one (don't have to be a Vaio)

Answer:Sony Vaio?

Has the warranty expired yet? It would be cheaper to get the fan replaced than to buy a new laptop. Try blowing the dirt out of the cooling vents with canned air. The fan maybe running at high speed because of the extra heat.

I wish all laptops were built like my Dell Inspiron 9100. The fans are user replaceable. They just pop right out the bottom.

You would have to boot into the recovery manager menu by pressing the specified key for recovery at the BIOS splash screen.

Alternatively, you can just install the wifi driver yourself which would be faster IMO lol.

Hi Everyone....Happy New Year!

My Vaio started going to safe mode after "recovering from a serious" problem. I got the dreaded blue screen telling me the video display hardware/software was acting up.

I was not able to boot up without Cntrl-Alt-Delete!

Now, she will not boot up one last time so I can dump my HD of some much needed data.

Is there any way to tell if I can replace the ATI 9200 card or....is this one terminal?

I need one more boot. For now, it will not even light up the screen.

Thanks! Brent Coleman

Question: Sony VAIO Help

Hello, my brother has a Sony VAIO model PCV-A11L.
Something went wrong in his computer and he had to reformat.
The reformatting process went fine but he cannot access the internet due to his lack of drivers.
I checked Sony's site for the drivers, but his computer model doesn't even exist in their database.
When I do type it in, it gives a # of different models (that aren't his) to select from.
I've tried a few of the modem drivers for those models and none of them seem to work either saying "this driver is not intended for this model)
Can anyone help me find the driver for it?
Thanks.

Most likely? No.

What's the model number?
Many model numbers have prefix or suffixes, that you don't need when searching for a model number (Granted- most should realize that number is a valid one though).

Like many NICs or Graphic Cards have an "L" at the end to specify low profile.... The drivers are the same exact as the non-L ones, but if you search for the one with the L on the end it might not come up with anything.

Just my two cents. If you post the model # someone might be able to tell you!

First check to be sure the cable inside the computer that goes to the CD ROM is seated in the CD ROM properly. If it is loose this will happen. If it is a new system with a seal you may have to take it back to let them check. Also the BIOS may not be set up to recognize the CD ROM.

I just got a sony vaio from a friend of a friend. I glady accpeted it because my motherboard in my regular laptop has a short in it somewhere so until I raise the funds to replace it I wanted to use this one. Well... the laptop is perfect for my needs but she got it from an international student who is no longer in the country. The laptop displays both Chinese and English languages. Thankfully the system files are in English.

Anywho, the reason for this is because I want to factory reset the system. I am a admin on the system but I cannot access the partition for the reset. I tried using the edit boot options (f10) but all I get a input prompt I do not know what to do from there.

i would think this posting would be better off in consumer watch, you dont say what os or problem you are having, ( there may be a way round your issues )it also is not a good idea to publicise your e mail as you have, the yellow envelope by your name is for personal messages/mailing.johnny.

HiGot a Sony Vaio PCG 6P2M and the hard drive has failed. I want to replace it but can't find any information on this lap top that tells me how to go about it. Any help about achieving this process would be very helpful.

Answer:New HD for A sony Vaio

If the machine is still in warranty get Sony to do it, I however suspect it is not in warranty. If you have the manuals check there to find the specifications of the drive already present. You wont want to replace it with a slower drive or smaller capacity etc. Most laptops with screens under 16inch use standard 2.5inch hard drives. These are mounted in a "caddy" which is unique to the laptop in question. Almost all laptops have their drive located in a dedicated place on the undersideclick hereThis advent is such an example. Some however also located the screw on the bottom with the drive pulling out the side like the DVD/CD tray.click hereSuch as this dell, sony also have been known to do this too.Overall the replacement works like this1. Undo screw2. remove cover3. unscrew drive caddy screws (if present)4. lift the drive up and away from the connector5. remove any connection cables6. repeat 1-5 in reverse order to replace with the new drive.A

Hi
I have a Sony Vaio PCV-V1/G. When connected to the Internet the task manager shows the CPU to be at 100% and the screen keeps locking. I have used Microsofts latest "fix it" programme to remove some add ons etc but it has made no difference. The C drive is currently 95% full and the computer has 1GB RAM.
Can anyone suggest a fix please?

Answer:Sony Vaio CPU at 100%

Your problem could easily be the lack of space on the HDD especially with limited RAM as Windows is probably trying to run the indexing service and to use some HDD space as memory.
You should try to free up some HDD space, but really you need a larger HDD and probably more RAM.

Question: Sony Vaio Help

Hello, i have a new Sony Vaio (not sure model) running vista basic (i think) just bought last christmas.

Two days ago i was playing a game (as usual) then it just out of the blue started to shut down and install the regular updates displaying 1 of 3 0% regretably i held down the power to shut it down immediately. I restarted it and it started to boot normally until the after the windows sign appears it goes to installing updates 3 of 3 0% stays for about 1-3 mins then says shuting down then does so and restarts and completes the process over.

Im not sure why i had the random crash (maybe the game?) in the first place but im thinking the boot files were messed up when i held the power key (because it says please do not shutdown when its installing) but ive tried just about everything i know to do which is just trying everything in the boot menu the ONLY way i can actually boot up (which is in safe mode) is like "boot recovery seystem" or something like that in the advanced boot mode options which is pretty much the only thing that works AT ALL. the only other thing that seems to work is going into that blue screen where i can set a system password or change the boot order (where i think is where you start the recovery discs (which i do not have)). But getting into the recovery safe mode thing i tried to system restore to an earlier date. the recovery process takes place normally until i get to finalizing recovery process.. then it just sticks. I left it overnight t... Read more

Question: Sony Vaio pcv-w2

hi, im an IT support technician i got a sony vaio pcv-w2 computer in (its like a pc/tv) anyway the hard drive had failed, so i put in a new drive and installed xp home, but im having real trouble finding the drivers for it (sony cleverly put these on a hidden partition on the hdd abd dont supply a cd).

i downloaded a file called pre- installed drivers from the sony vaio website for this model(most unhelpful support site ive come across in my 2 and a half years as a techie) but the multimedia video and audio drivers and an unknown device are still not installed, ive tried a number of different drivers witch i thought will have solved the audio but no luck,

has anyone got one of these who could email me the drivers? it would be much appreciated,

cheers
Dave

Answer:Sony Vaio pcv-w2

of the drivers are not available from the Sony site a bit of detective work is needed.

Down load Belarc advisor and run it on the Sony to obtain the detailed list of contro;;ers and bus adaptors you have. If you can't download, down laod ir elsewhere and copy it over.

Once you have the definition and manufacturer of the adaptors check which ones are not installed.

Go to that manufacturer's web site and locate your chipset and download their generic drivers.
Sounds too easy - it has taken a week to get the Sony drivers I need having gone from xpmce to xp pro.

If you post the adaptors I might be able to help with locating generic drivers.

Yeah I know I post a lot, sorry. I'm just new to a lot of things when it comes to building, repairing computers and getting the right parts, and with that when is it ever not a good thing to ask a lot of questions, you can never be to sure about things, Thanks to you guys my first build was nearly flawless and all is going well.

On to the subject at hand, My gf has a laptop that she has been nagging me to fix for the longest time but ive been putting all my builds and repairs first. Anyway, The Hard drive went out in this laptop and a guy linked me to a compatible 80GB HD
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3212548&CatId=2675 It's 50 some dollars and i thought that's just a bit much for an old P4 laptop, Ive looked on ebay but the prices are just as bad, but really i don't know exactly what to look for; as to some of you guys on here may be able to find me a better deal. Thanks!

Question: Sony Vaio Di

Hi ya'll, I am having an issue doing a bunch of stuff on my computer ever since I installed a fresh version of Windows 7 on my Sony Vaio VGN-SZ670N.  It used to run Vista from the factory.

Once I installed the fresh copy of Windows 7 all the SONY functions that came with the computer have gone to <expletive>!!

I keep tapping my mouse button when i am typing thus making the cursor go random places and my text to appear in these random places.

I can't adjust the brightness of my screen in control panel power options.

My Fn keys are not working..

The thumbprint fingerprint reader doesn't work.

I have gone to the Sony site and there's just a plethora of stuff there to download and I really don't know what needs to be downloaded for the full functionality of the laptop or even if it's the right downloads since I am now running Windows 7 and all that "bloatware" was made to run on Vista?
