display adapter is stuck on standard vga adapter

Question: display adapter is stuck on standard vga adapter

I know there are several threads but they are with different cards and they didn't solve my issue...

I bought a new MEDION AKOYA P5334E and the system arrived installed normally with win7 home edition.

I've installed on the computer the win7 enterprise edition (x64) and many drivers could not be find. I've installed nost of them, except the display adapter.
It's stuck on "standard vga graphic adapter".
I have the AMD Radeon HD7570 card but no matter what I try is not working!!!
tried to uninstall the current driver, tried to download the driver from the AMD website (when executing it - it's running but does nothing).
when executed the auto detect from AMD website, I got the message "we were unable to find your product or OS"

Will be greatful for any help!!!
Thanks a lot!!!

Preferred Solution: display adapter is stuck on standard vga adapter

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: display adapter is stuck on standard vga adapter

Welcome to the Sevem Forums, Oraz.

If you still have the DVD of Windows 7 home edition and if it is also 64-bit then you might find the graphics adapter driver there which might get installed. Otherwise try installing Graphics Card AMD Radeon HD7570 in Windows XP SP3 mode.

Another option is to try installing the Graphics Card AMD Radeon HD7570 that you have downloaded in the safe mode. In case the this driver gets loaded in the safe mode then it shall install too.

Hello. I recently restored the computer to factory settings and the graphics card won't work now. Before the restore it was working just fine but now I am stuck on the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. The graphic card that I have I think it's a "ATI Raedon HD 5450 Series Graphic". I have already tried updating it and can't get it to work either. Here is a link for information about the computer, HP Support document - HP Support Center

And here are some pictures of what's going on.
(by the way, I haven't installed, removed, or touched anything inside the computer)
(the hardware acceleration slider is all the way to the right, the full position)

I've tried about almost every "solution" I could find on the internet and it's just been one problem after another.

I've just recently received this laptop and I went and tried to play The Sims 3 on here, but when I tried and go play it an error popped up stating "Can't run The Sims 3 with the video card in this system" blah blah. So when I finally found the issue and went to try and update the graphic card, it would say the installation was successful and that I just needed to restart my computer. But I restart my laptop and it still shows up as "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" under Device Manager. That happened when I went to install the "Intel(R) HD Graphics Family". I've tried every single method I could find to updating this stupid graphics driver, but I've just been running into one problem after another. I thought I finally found a solution when I went to go and try and install the beta version of "Intel(R) HD Graphics 4400", but at the end a window pops up talking about "The driver selected for this device does not support this version of Windows." Every single thing I've tried so far as resulted in nothing but failure. I don't know if it's my laptop that's the problem or what. All I know is I'm about ready to give up at this point.

Hello, I have a Aspire AX3950 that came with Windows 7 Home. I had to re-image the machine to Windows 7 Professional so I could install Visual Studio 2013. I got the software from my MSDN Subscription. After successfully reimaging the machine, the system only recognizes one of my monitors. It was working properly with the same two monitors before the windows update. I checked the Display Adapter and it shows "Standard VGA Graphics Adaper". It was my mistake for not checking the adapter before updating the system. From what I have found on the internet, this AX3950 has a graphic card coupled with the mother board. My question is, how can I get the original Display adapter working again?

Hey everyone, it's been a long time since I've had to ask anything on these forums, but I'm glad they're still here when I need them! I've done some looking into the problem, and it seems like there aren't many resources on my problem.

I'm trying to connect my television to my laptop, via an SVideo connection. The problem is, my graphics card does not, and CAN NOT, have its factory/updated drivers installed. The graphics card is currently being run under "Standard VGA graphics adapter" drivers.

(The reason I can't put drivers on the card is because it's fried. I'm suffering from a burnt-out, defective NVidia GeForce 8600M GS, like many other people, and I'm mired down in court documents that I'll be using against HP in small claims court.)

Are there another set of drivers I could try that would allow my laptop to use an external display?
Is there a way to set up an external monitor under standard VGA graphics adapter drivers?

Hi everyone.
I am so happy with Windows 7 that I have bought a new laptop Toshiba Satellite L50D-B, but I did not love nothing of the pre-installed win 8 at all, so I formatted the disk and copied onto it the last image I had of Window 7 and all my well functioning programs. The image came from a HP Pavilion 6xxxx, thus the drivers of all hard drive components needed to be replaced with that of Toshiba. I went on Toshiba site and found all drivers I needed of my new laptop and for windows 7 (32 first and 64 bit then). The only problem remaining is that I cannot replace the Standard VGA Graphics adapter with the AMD Radeon(TM) R4 Graphics. I have tried any methods I know, mounted and unmounted many drivers. I tried also to make a clean install of Windows 7 64 bit in a new partition, but the standard vga graphics adapter remains there impassible. Catalyst installs but does not see the display. I used DDU (Display Driver Uninstall), the sole program that has eliminated Catalyst perfectly from my new laptop, but the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter remains still unmovable. As i found suggested on the internet I tried to uninstall the old driver and reinstall the new in windows dafe mode. Is it possible there are some HP drivers blocking the installation of the correct AMD driver???
Any suggestion? I have the disks for restoring my satellite to its original horror Win 8.1 pre-installed state, if this can be of some help, to catch some 8.1 drivers, for example...

Small correction on that, it's the drivers for the Motherboard components that you need. There appears to be more to the model number such as Toshiba Satellite L50D-B-124 as an example, will help in finding the correct drivers.

Hey, I wanted to put some new games on my Laptop, and I got the Direct X 9.0c Compatible Graphics Adapter message. So I went online, and was instructed to go onto Device Manager and I found I had Standard VGA Graphics Adapter, so then I got some kind of update checker and it looked through my hardware and found that my Graphic Adapter needed updating...

I have already put some of the games I want on my laptop before now, and un-installed them when I ran out of space, and now I have more space I want to put them back on.

I tried a link for the Update, but it told me to use Windows Update, but it doesn't seem to work.

Does anyone know a free way of updating Standard VGA Graphics Adapter?

That would be helpful x :grinthumb

I had to reinstall windows 7 on my acer aspire 5560g laptop, I installed the drivers on the Acer site. I found the legacy updates for my cards and installed them. And I am still having problems.

The monitor is not showing the native resolution of 1366 x 768, it's topping out at 1024 x 768, it's refusing to let me use the built in screen savers. It's supposed to be a duel graphics system and the device manager lists two under the display drivers. Both are listed as standard vga display. One with the little yellow exclamation mark. It's driving me nutty. Can someone help me?

On a side note, the slider for screen brightness has also gone missing, and the fn brightness control doesn't work either.

Answer:Display adapter now listed as standard vga display

You are missing the graphics drivers. To save you some time here I gave you a link:

Have changed to Win7 from XP. Now I cannot change screen reolution from 600x800, In Computer Panel>display I am offered res upto 1280x but clicking Apply gives a short blck screen then back to the original.

OS: Win-7 Profesional 32 bit
Monitor: HP2311f (using VGA connector)
Display adapter: SiS 650_651_M650_m652_740

I suspect that I do not have a Win7 compatible driver as it all worked with XP,
and device Manager now reports I am using a generic VGA driver.

I tried "driver navigator" and it says the VGA driver is OK!
I have also done a Windows Update with no success.
I have not been able to find a SiS driver on their web site

Hope someone can assist

Answer:Win7 Display adapter stuck at 600x800

Can't find a SIS driver specifically for your setup ? I know a man who can.

SIS UniVga3 driver latest

This should help considerably. They also recommend looking to update your Bios if after installing the driver you still can't fully adjust.

I recently bought a pretty old, upgraded desktop that came running Windows 8. It's fine for what I need but I can't find the ancient Radeon 1200 graphics card in device manager. I'd only really need it so my son can play some basic games that work on another even older PC I use. I know it's unlikely being so old but can anyone please tell me if there is there a fix at all for this? Thanks

Answer:Am I stuck with Microsoft basic display adapter?

You sure are. AMD stopped putting driver's out for HD 4000 series and prior video cards before Windows 8 was released.

I have been using this adapter for over a year now it had been working great, but suddenly the other the it got stuck in a bootloop.
When I plug it into the tv it starts up and displays the microsoft logo, then the 3 dots come up and starts blinking, then they stop and the adapter reboots into the same infinite loop.
I can not use the reset button because it's stuck in the bootloop, I have tried it alot. Is there any other possible solution for this scenario. I think a reset would fix the problem, but how? Can I push an updated firmware or force a reset from my laptop over the usb somehow?
/Thomas

Answer:Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter stuck in bootloop

If it was like my Actiontec ScreenBeam Mini2, that I've been rocking for over 2 years, you could force firmware via USB. I've never had to, but one could if required.
Why not try and plug a micro USB into it, then the USB A into your PC and see if you can't push firmware that way. Or maybe get that reset button worked.
Also, needs be said, but you've probably tried at least 5 different cables that you know are good by now, right??

Hi,Our 7040 minitower has two standard (not ++) DisplayPorts.  Our monitor is dvi-D (dual-link). Dell supplied the tower with a DisplayPort to dvi adapter.  The advice received was that this adapter wouldn't work because it was passive. However, hooked it up and the dvi-D (dual-link) monitor displayed perfectly.Would anyone know why this adapter succeeded (when apparently it shouldn't have)?

Answer:How did this passive display adapter do the job that should have needed an active adapter?

Its not a passive adapter.
HDMI is bi directional and passive.
Display port is not.

I just purchased an adapter plug that allows me to connect my Lenovo/IBM thinkpad (T420) to my HDTV by plugging the HDMI cord into my TV and the other end to this adapter plug which converts the HDMI cable into a male plug which fits into my display port (there is no HDMI port on this model computer). It worked, but now I can't remove the adapter plug...it's stuck in the laptop display port. I do not know if the problem is caused by the male adapter plug or the female jack in the computer, but they're locked together now.

I have previously read review comments (on these HDMI/display port adapter plugs) mentioning this jamming happening on more than a couple occasions, but I don't recall any resolutions being mentioned except to break off (and destroy) the plug and possibly damage the display port as well. I called Lenovo tech support but they said I'd have to mail the computer to them to get it fixed. I'd prefer avoiding that if possible even though my warranty is still in effect and it would be of no cost to me.....just time lost without a computer.

I'd greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who may be aware of how to resolve this problem (and also how to avoid it happening again) without doing damage to either the plug or especially the computer display port.

Thanks for your consideration in any case....

Hello,
I just installed Windows 7 RC1 32-bit OS onto my laptop. Without thinking i needed any drivers, i went to play World of Warcraft. It told me that it could not locate a display device and wouldn't work. I figured i needed to install my grpahics card drivers for my Nvidia 9 series card. When i went to install the drivers, an error message appeared saying that it could not locate drivers compatible with my device. I went to dxdiag and under display it shows that i have a standard vga adapter and won't recognize my actual graphics card. I'm not sure if i'm missing drivers, i haven't installed anything else except for this attempt at installing the nvidia driver. Please assist, thank you.

I used to have the videogame Medieval 2 Total War on my new alienware laptop and it was fully functioning. I ended up deleteing it because I thought it was taking up too much space. Now I can install it but when I try to run the actual game I immediately get a message saying "Medieval II Total War has encountered an unspecified error and will now exit" and after reading through forums I saw a comment about someone having this problem and fixing it by downloading the latest ATI graphics.

I think I might know the problem but I am clueless as to how one goes about fixing it. A few days before I found out about this site and managed to find the virus that was slowing my internet, I was quite frustrated by the slow loading speed of my internet so I opened task manager and began ending random processes, I realize now this was not a good idea. I think I may have done something to ATI.

When I try to run the ATI setup (which has been on my computer the whole time), I reach the ATI Display Driver when it tells me "Setup did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system" then after clicking OK i received the message "Try to setup your display adapter with a standard VGA driver before running setup"

Hello guys, I've posted here about something similar to which I solved thanks to your good help But now there's something I need to clarify. My PC, back in October had a incident that I don't want to go over which caused my repairer to replace the Graphics card. I lost Aero (simulating it now with Transbar and TrueTransparency). What boots up when I start the PC shows the card as: SIS True Color 16 Bit PCI or some stuff life that.. I downloaded CPU-Z and put my latest specifications in my system specs.. so click em! See if you could help me verify the graphics driver or anything, the previous one was a NVIDIA GeForce one. It also shows my monitor as Generic PnP

Answer:Standard VGA Adapter problem.

Hi IngestedFool, I thought you had solved this problem when you switched cables ? The SIS card you have is only 16bit meaning it will not support aero which needs directx 9 and above I personnally think its time for a new later model of GFX card that will support aero , Is there anywhere else you acn go to purchase from and not the same person who put the older GFX card in for you ?

Hi there,

Just done a clean install of windows 7 on my Sony VPN-SZ5VWN and it has installed all drivers apart from the display.

It has a nVidia Go 7400 however when I try to install it it just states there is no nividia products.

The original drivers are for Vista and Sony provides no other supported OS for them.

Hi, I just installed Windows 7 Professional 64x. Previously, I had 32-bit Vista Ultimate.

I have a Dell Precision M90, with 4 gigs of ram, a 2.00 GHz core duo processor, and a Nvidia Quadro FX 2500M video card.

In the device manager, my display adapter shows as Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. I'm decent with computers, so I've upgraded video card drivers before. However, for some reason it is not allowing me to upgrade this driver. I have tried with both a 2500M driver as well as a 7900GTX driver (which worked for me in Vista).

I have also tried uninstalling the driver first, but it won't let me install another one before restarting and when I restart it just reinstalls the Standard VGA Graphics adapter. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

What laptop?

Some have dual gpu's.. the onboard intel on associaed with the cpu, and a dedicated on like a nvidia or amd/ati.

Its a power savings type thing, where in low graphics/power saving it'll run the intel and gaming runs the dedicated.

Theses tye of systems requires the driver to come from alienware/dell.

Download the latest nVIDIA GeForce Drivers from here, select your model, you need to choose one with M at the end meaning for a mobile laptop, then select which version of Windows (example: windows 7 64 bit) then download and install the drivers, then restart http://www.geforce.com/Drivers

Hello, I am new to this forum. I have been searching for days and tried everything to fix this problem. I was trying to play a game and once i opened it it said Failed loading OpenGL 1.2 [UGraphic.Initialize3D. On my old computer all i needed to do was to go to device manager and update my graphic card but since updating to window 7 i havent been able to see my graphic card and just says standard vga graphics adapter. I have speccy install and ready to give any information to fix this problem. once again i would really appreciate any help thank you.

Welcome to the forum. I am trying to find information on your computer. Is your computer a laptop or a desktop? Have you tried http://global-download.gateway.com/F...rDetection.exe to determine what display card you have in your system?

Hi everyone,

I cruised around the forum trying to find a solution that worked for me but I couldn't. Here's the situation:

I formatted this computer (was running Vista) and installed 7 (x64). But now 7 isn't detecting my video card properly.

I've tried running EVEREST and so on, but haven't gained any hints that way. It's an onboard videocard and I can't make out any identifying characteristics that have been helpful so far. I've tried updating the motherboard but obviously that wasn't any help.

Now, I originally updated this beast from XP to Vista and recall having a similar problem. Somehow I figured out the card required a driver from Chrome (Welcome to S3 Graphics - Create world-class graphics and video cores).

I tried installing the 500 series driver for 7x64 but it doesn't seem to have taken. I fiddled with device manager but it is refusing to change from Standard VGA Adapter. I tried installing the 400 series but it gave me a hardware error which suggests I was on the money for it being 500.

Is there a way to force device manager to accept the 500 series driver? It didn't give me an error or anything and I'm pretty sure it's what I want -- positive, even.

I've included a pic of the inside of the computer (kind of useless?) and can attach an EVEREST diagnosis if anyone likes.

thanks,
James

when i try to play a game i get an alert message stating that--"hardware acceleration is disabled or not supported by ur card driver" and when i play games the resolution of the screen is very very bad.
Please help......

Answer:Standard VGA Graphics Adapter

What kind of games are you trying to play?

The laptop you have I think uses the NVIDIA GeForce Go 7150M Graphics Chipset. This onboard chipset will not enable you to play most modern day 3D games.

As to the Aero effects, these are the minimum system requirements:

1. a 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
2. 1 GB of system memory (512MB sometimes works)
3. a DirectX 9 compatible graphics processor with a Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM)driver, Pixel shader 2.0 in hardware, and a minimum of 128 MB of Video RAM
32 bits per pixel
4. 40 GB hard drive with 15 GB free space
5. DVD-ROM Drive
6. Audio output and Internet access (preferably broadband)

Here is a review on your IGP.

Hey all, I just finished a clean install of Windows 7 and now my graphics card is unread by windows. I had this problem before and I was able to fix it, but this time my card is an ATI Radeon. I know I have to have a modified .inf file, but I don't know how to do that.

Here is the information on my laptop:
Model: Sony Vaio VPCEB390X
OS: Win7 x32
Graphics Card: ATI Radeon 5650 (not 100% sure though)

How do I get the correct driver install?

Thanks in advance!!

Answer:Standard VGA Graphics Adapter!!

If i am understanding your post correctly, I would download Speccy and verify your card model number, after that its simply a matter of going to ATI's driver download webpage here and choosing the correct driver for your card.

How about filling in your system specs,

After reinstalling windows vista OS 64bit on my dell studio xps 1640, I reinstalled all the drivers that were on dell resource cd that came with my laptop. On my device manager there is still a yellow triangle with an exclimation mark next to Standard VGA Graphics adapter. I used to be able to use 1920x1080 screen resolution; however, the highest option now is currently 1400x1050 pixels and it reads default monitor on display settings instead of having HD Radeon 4670 option as it did before. My grahpics card is a radeon HD 4670. Could anyone possibly tell me what drivers I would need to download and install in order to get my screen resolution back to 1920x1080 and resolve the VGA adapter problem? I have gone to the dell driver website; however, the standard vga graphics adapter does not seem to be under the video drivers? thank you for your time and help guys >.<

Hi

I have an Acer Aspire 8930G. It's GFx card died a year or so ago, and I just bought a new one, a NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT DDR3 MXM II, from eBay.
When my laptop worked, it had Vista installed. So naturally I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate.

Now windows 7 has been installed, all updates been installed. All but one. the nVidia driver.

I can't seem to install it. I have searched the net for solutions. Found some, but couldn't go on.
Fx. tried to add some lines in the drivers .inf files. Put a line with my hardwares ID, but my hardware lacked some digits.

Anyways... I'm stuck with standard VGA graphics adapter. Today's the sixth day on trying to find a solution, and I'm about ready to boil my balls just to feel anything else but frustration.

Can anyone please help me?

Answer:Standard VGA graphics adapter

You may want to try using the driver from the Acer site.

I come up with a Nvidia 9200m graphics card. You can also try using this program to help with filling in your system specs. Speccy - System Information - Free Download

If your locking for the driver for it I would first try the manufacturers site since they sometimes modify the .inf file and it can cause you problems when trying to install the one directly from Nvidia

Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

If you have any problems installing the driver the normal way by clicking on the setup.exe file, then post back.
Their are other ways to get it installed.

Greetings,

Having a few problems and I was referred to here by a couple friends, so I'm hoping you can help.

My computer knowledge is around the level that normal people consider me to be a computer genius (doesn't take much), where as those who truly are would wonder how I even managed to install my OS.

So basically when it comes to my own computer, I know quite a bit about it and can manage to do or find whatever I need for it. But when it comes to doing something with another computer I'm near hopeless.

I have a very simple problem. I'm using someone else's old computer. It has Windows 98 second edition installed. The video display only allows 16 colors and I can't change the res from 640 x 480. I know that all I need to do is install some graphics drivers, but I'm not sure where to find them, or which ones I need.

The computer is the following:

Genuine Intel
x86 Family 15 Model 2 Stepping 4

OS is

Windows 98
Second Edition
4.10.2222 A

Also it doesn't have net access.

My other problem is that I have no idea what motherboard she has in it. She's not computer savvy, so she wouldn't have upgraded anything or switched anything out. Is there by chance a standard motherboard that came with this system? She's in Australia by the way if that makes a difference. I know that I could look inside, but I'm not sure exactly where to look and it would be a lot easier if I could show up with the ... Read more

Probably nothing. You just need a driver for your card from Nvidia.

Hello. I put Windows 7 on my friends computer since he wanted me to, so I installed it. But there was one problem. His resolution is stuck at 640x480. It said he is running from a Standard VGA Graphics Adapter. His computer is fairly old, but all of the hardware is pretty good except for the video card. I brought him my old 7700 GTS for him to use for the time being, but I cannot install the drivers for it, and the computer still says he is running Standard VGA Graphics Adapter.

Answer:Standard VGA Graphics Adapter

first try a driver uninstaller, I don't know any generic ones but i'm sure either somebody can post that or you can google it. if that doesn't work off the bat try the following....

uninstalling in devmgmt (do not delete driver files) and then run driver install as administrator. if that doesn't work try the same thing in safe mode. If that doesn't work try clearing cmos and then installing drivers. though if you clear cmos you might have to manually set it up or do optimized configuration.

Hi,

My graphic files are very hazy. I assume that I have to re-install my video/graphics card drivers.

Can anyone please tell me how I can find out what type of video/graphics card I have and if I can download the drivers I require off the internet.

Many thanks for your assistance.

I have searched EVERYWHERE and read all threads and articles on this subject to no success. Most of the time the answers are 'install new drivers' or 'manually install drivers through driver > update " but I can't do either of these things.

After fresh install of windows 7 64bit sp 1 on a toshiba satellite s855d-s5253, I was going to install drivers as usual - I came across the display driver as "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" - So I thought, okay so I just have to update and install driver for AMD Vision A10 ( It is a ATI Radeon HD 7660G). I know this is the right card, I used AMD Catalyst auto detect, I googled hardware ids, And also I remember this card from before I had to format the computer. I used an official windows 7 install disc, as well.
When it comes to trying to uninstall the driver, it always reinstalls itself as soon as I turn the system on - I have tried disabling automatic device installation to prevent this to no success.
And when I try installing the Catalyst stuff it ends up giving me a message like "graphics adapter not supported" or could not install because of the graphics adapter, etc. Basically I am trying to reinstall the drivers and its only picking up standard vga graphics adapter? not the Radeon HD 7660G. But it is definitely there. Have also tried safe mode....
I really am at a loss at what to do, this is really a pain as I cannot load any games on the computer!

Welcome
I dont know what you had or if we can improve on what you do have, but the graphics adapter is a driver. You can go to the ATI website and have them scan your computer for what you need.

A few months ago I wiped and reloaded my computer because it had a virus on it and it seemed like the easier thing to do. When I reloaded everything the screen became more stretched and there is a yellow exclamation point next the the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter in device manager.
Specs:
Dell 1525
Intel174 Core153; 2 Duo T6500 (2.10GHz/800Mhz FSB/2MB cache)
2GB Shared Dual Channel DDR2 at 800MHz
15.6 inch display (1366X768)
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X4500HD
160 GB SATA Hard drive (5400RPM)
Windows Vista Home Premium Edition SP1 32 Bit
Integrated 10/100 Network Card
Dell Wireless 1397 802.11g Half Mini-Card

So I've checked the Dell Support website and downloaded all the Video drivers and nothing worked. I'm not sure what to do.

Answer:Standard VGA Graphics Adapter (Code 10)

driver not installed correctly/wrong driver. uninstall the drivers from programs and features and then remove the video adaptor from device manager, reboot to safe mode and then use a driver cleaner to remove the leftover drivers. then do a clean boot so no apps can not interfere and reinstall the driver package.

Okay, I posted a while back about serious problems [ not that I am the first person ] I am having with my Standard PCI Graphics Adapter. As always, I only have 2 and 16 colors when I am running on a FAT32 and am registering for 32Bit. This thing is making me want to get rid of my computer because I fear it is too old to be able to help now. Someone gave me a site to download a new driver, but while it did give me more colors, the icons, fonts, screen in general, were seriously messed up. I could not reverse the process no matter how hard I tried, so I once again was forced to format my computer. Someone please help me, I'm going nuts over here.

My computer specs:
Compaq Deskpro 6000
Hewlett Packard Ergo 1024 14 Inch Display Monitor
Intel Pentium II Processor

Please e-mail me at [email protected] if you can help. I will appreciate it so greatly. Thank you.

I have MSI GX-600 laptop. I recently installed Windows 7 wanting to see if it really was an upgrade from Vista. It was. It performs better, is more stable, have fever bugs. But, my graphic card wont work properly. And, when you have a gaming laptop it is essential for the graphic card properly.

My graphic card, an integrated GeForce 8600M GT, only shows up as a "Generic Non-PnP Monitor on Standard VGA Graphics Adapter". The computer cant even run the screen saver.

It seems to me that Windows 7 fails to find my graphic card. When i try to install the drivers from Nvidia the install stops ans says that my hardware do not support the driver.

Yeah so, every now and again i decide to update windows 7 64, just to see if it WONT make me have to do a reinstall, ya know for it to do some actual good. yeah not so much... Problems problems, problems, ever since i updated to win7...

this latest batch of problems has me kinda ticked and sorta fed up entirely, of course geeksquad is a joke of a company, who wont honor their obligation when i bought my laptop, but thats a rant for another day.

so this one day, i restart my computer, just like any other time, and next thing i know, upon restart, i have 8 bit. with a 800x600, i check to see if maybe its just a video driver issue, and my gforce is gone, it's replaced with " generic non-Pnp monitor standard VGA graphics adapter ".

To top it off, i forget what peice of hardware i had originally.

So now whenever i restart my computer, or shut it off, then turn it back on again, my screen looks as if an 8th grader created a new theme for my laptop...

if i want to to be "normal" i have to just shut the lid, and pray it comes back more appealing...

What can i do??
thanks,

(note the graphics card, aka not correct...)

Windows 7 32bit
A few months ago I updated my Nvidia GeForce GT 240 Graphics Card, for an Asus Nvidia GeForce GTX 650Ti Boost. Right from the start it was a nightmare. It centered around duff Nvidia drivers. I initially put in the ones on the disc that came with the card...Blue Screen. So I updated the drivers to the latest from their website...Blue Screen. Then I tried all the drivers in between, but the out come was the same. When I looked to see what it was loading, it wasn't just the driver but a whole load of other stuff that I didn't feel was neccessary or might cause conflicts. It is a Graphics Card but it also wants to instal Sound drivers and 3D etc.
So when, eventually I could only boot into Safe Mode I decided to only load the items I felt were neccessary for me. They were the graphics driver and Physics. I was nolonger getting a BSOD, however, what I am now getting is the monitor switching to a black screen standby. Although the PC is still on and running unseen. When it reaches this stage my only option is to switch off the PC and attempt to switch it on again. So now everytime I try to mess with it, my PC won't start without me having to do a system re-image.
I have discovered that the problem lays with the 'Standard VGA Graphics Adapter', which in 'Device Manager' shows as having an exclamation mark and says "This device cannot start (Code 10)". I've tried trying to update the driver, but the monitor just switches to stand by and I have to reimage a... Read more

Hi everyone I have 2 ThinkPad s.  One is IBM ThinkPad X31 which I bought 4 years ago.  The other one is Lenovo ThinkPad R61i which I bought in March 2008   Despite the latter one ,ThinkPad R61i, is pretty new, there are some minor faults which annoy me a lot.  My Lenovo R61i problem is that the coating covering the wiring of the Black electric cord with the transformer pack breaks away from the joint connecting to its Grey socket which is inserted into the power jack of the computer.  This break away results in all wiring being exposed open.  As an interim measure, I simply wrap and cover the exposed area with some water repellent tape subject to the availability of a new cord to replace the existing one which is considered unsafe and non-professional. To rectify the existing adverse situation, I would appreciate if someone out there could advise me (1)    Where could I get the replacement ac adapter (particular the part with the transformer pack);(2)    Details of the part name and its all inclusive costs including delivery charges to UK and the local agent contact number;(3)    Is  my case an isolated incidence or could it be a hidden fault of the product line which Lenovo management need to look into in order to gain back the confidence of its loyal customers on the quality of the ThinkPad product. Many thanks Allen... Read more

Answer:Quality standard of the ac adapter cord coating

Did you buy the laptop new in March 2008??? If yes, then you call Lenovo and ask them replace the ac adapter, if not... then you can buy the ac adapter from Lenovo.com.uk, the shipping is free. Your problem with the power cord, is rather isolated. The quality of the Lenovo laptop is extremely good, not much different to that of the old IBM one.

OK as Ive been looking around the site Ive noticed that there are many issues like this one, and Im sure there are plenty of people out there that have this problem...

My "Windows Experience Index" is at a 1.0 only because my Graphics, and Gaming Graphics rating are at 1.0. Everything else is at 5.9 which I can live with.

When I look at my adavanced settings for my monitor it Shows my Nvidia GPU but only running with 14 MB total avail mem. And I know that NOT right. Unfortunatly when I went to Nvidia's site and ran the auto detect it said that I didnt even have their product and that I had the Standard VGA Graphics Adapter.

I can't seem to find the right drivers for this to fix it all, and I would love to be able to "Experience" Windows 7 at its fullest. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hopefully the attached photos will give you an idea as to what Im working with.

Also When i toubleshoot Aero Ive received this message:
"The current video card may support Aero with a driver that is compliant with the Windows Display Driver Model (WDDM). Contact the manufacturer of your computer or video card for a WDDM-compatible driver."

And when I try to change my screensaver to a 3D one it states that I either need a newer graphics card or one that is compatible with Direct3D. So yeah. Thats about where Im at.

Downgrade to WIndows 7 Home Premium. This is my advice. I know I am very late, but I have to so that somebody else with a similar problem can solve their problem. After a google search stumbled across some posts on Microsoft there are other users also having similar problems, and they all have been running Ultimate. I've been battling a very similar issue with my AMD Radeon 7670M card on a WIndows 7 Ultimate system. This card was working great when I was having Home Basic. It was very frustrating to reinstall Windows again and again to hope this solve it but it didn't. after seeing your issue and some others, I can surely tell you there is some compatibility issue between the OS and the hardware.

When I first downloaded Windows 7, the resolution was something like 1024 x 786 (or whatever the number order is). I was told to update my video card, but since I can't afford to do that, I dealt with it. It was annoying, but I got used to it.
A few months later, I turned on my computer and it had magically fixed itself. The resolution was back to normal, my DVDs would play, yaddah yaddah. It stayed like that for a few more months.
Then, yesterday, I turned my computer on and it was back to having a tiny resolution. It tells me I need to update my video card driver, but when I did, it said that it was fine. Now I'm lost because I've done everything I know how to do whether it be updates or installs.
I'd really like to avoid forking over the cash (that I don't have) for a new video card so anyone knows how fix this problem on a Sony Vaio PCG-6L1L (VGN-SZ230P) (an ancient computer, I know), can you please help (with step by step instructions if possible)?

Answer:Standard VGA Graphics Adapter - Sony Vaio

I would start with re-installing the video drivers, both of them. From looking at the specs for that model laptop (click on Marketing Specifications to view the pdf),

Sony eSupport - VGN-SZ230P - Manuals / Specs / Warranty

it has both the Intel 950 (chipset Intel 945GM) and the Nvidia Go 7400, If that is in fact what it has I would start with the Intel driver first,

? Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator Driver for Windows* 7(exe)

and then install the Nvidia driver second (it's a beta, looks like Nvidia dropped support for it),

NVIDIA DRIVERS 179.48 BETA

They may not install as Sony is somewhat anal about allowing manufacturer's reference drivers to be used without them (Sony) first doing whatever it is they do to the INF's (they can't mod the drivers themselves, just the INF's).

If neither of those work you can try the Sony provided Vista drivers from ehre,

Sony eSupport - VGN-SZ230P/B - Software Updates & Drivers

I'm on Windows 7 Professional 64 bits
My motherboard has an onboard graphics card that works just fine. I installed an old PCI graphics card in order to use more monitors (TNT2 Riva by NVidia). The card is so old that it doesn't have a driver for Windows 7 64bits (it seems that it works in 32 bits)
As a result Windows 7 uses a "Standard VGA Graphics Adapter" as the driver, the monitor and card works but it wont let me go above 1024x780, is there any way to force a higher resolution in this driver? Both my monitor and card can support it

Best,

Answer:Standard VGA Graphics Adapter won't let me go to 1280x1024 resolution

I just recently tried uprgraded from Windows 95 to Windows 98. Upon finding that such a task was unsuccesful and my computer had no room for it, I was forced to format my hard drive; much to my dismay.

Once Windows 98 was loaded I went to Properties and then Settings to fix my Display. I was rather annoyed to find that the computer was telling me I only have 2 Bits or 16 Bits of color. I know damn well it is registered for 32 Bits and is running on FAT32. I cannot understand why it is doing this for me. I understand I will probably need another driver, but I do not know which one.

My Monitor is a Hewlett Packard Ergo 1024 and my CPU is a Compaq Deskpro ... Not sure of the numbers. Please, if someone can help me let me know. I am great with computers but am completely stumped on this one. I know that there was a previous discussion of this on another post set but I did all they talked about and nothing helped.

Someone please help me!!!!!!

I was trying to set up an external monitor and It does not detect it.  That is when I noticed that the laptop is using "Standard VGA adapter" instead of the Intel HD 4000. I have tried updating the driver and nothing. I have even tried uninstalling the "Standard VGA driver" and it just goes to a generic VGA Compatible.  No matter what I try I can't get the HD 4000 Driver to load.

I have a couple of systems that only have one type of IDE connector and need to flip each way. One of them is a small system but its one/only IDE port is fullsize... normal size. However I want to put a laptop-type DVD/RW in it that uses the miniature IDE/ATA port.

on two other Dell Opti desktops I have the opposite issue: They only have the small size IDE header, but I have a device that needs a fullsize connector.

Am I looking for an adapter that has male/male on each side, mini & standard? Or is there a cable out there, female on each end, that has fullsize on one and small/micro/mini on the other?
