Alternative touchpad driver for Toshiba Satellite Pro S500-14M?

Question: Alternative touchpad driver for Toshiba Satellite Pro S500-14M?

I am disappointed with the ALPS touchpad driver which Tosihba provides for my laptop and have tried Synaptics' drivers but they do not seem to be compatible (Scrolling does not work).

The issue with the ALPS touchpad driver is that it does not support continuous scrolling, which is a must-have in my opinion.

Are there by any chance any alternative drivers which at least support continuous scrolling and are compatible with my laptop?

I've googled alot, but to no avail...

Thanks in advance - Brutality

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

Hi everyone, I’m having 7 Toshiba Satellite Pro S500 Notebooks here and would like to upgrade those crappy Core i3 330M and 350M, 370M and 380M CPUs to Core i5 or Core i7 CPUs. I’m quite unsure what CPU Socket I’ll have to buy and what CPU Generations are supported by the S500. I’m having CPUs up to Corei3 380M assembled in those things right now and believe its an HM55 Express chipset inside which should allow for i5 and i7 CPUs. I already had issues in upgrading toshiba tecra A9 modells as after the CPU upgrade they were running fine and the FAN was blowing ultra loud at 100% speed all the time without ever turning off again even though the notebook could be frozen at 0?C and it was never hot. Toshiba 3rd level support then told me it would need a microcode update that they don’t provide to customers and told me to send the notebooks for repair @ 50€ each just for updating that microcode. Therefore I’d like to ask if anyone has a list of Supported CPUs for the S500 modells?
Exact Model Numbers I do have:
Satellite Pro S500-106 (PSSE0E-19M06SLD)
Satellite Pro S500-147 (PSSE0E-0HH06SLD)
Satellite Pro S500-132 (PSSE0E-09G05ELD)

Hope anyone can help, I don’t wanna end up buying a i7 or i5 cpu, spending 50 bucks, investing 4 hours work and end up with an unusable notebook I have to right away disassemble again just to undo the work I had invested… Looking forward to your replies J

Answer:Upgrading Toshiba Satellite Pro S500 CPU from i3 to i5 or i7

Best thing to do is choose a CPU that shipped with one of the other S500 PSSE0E models. That way you can be certain the BIOS supports it.
Some notebooks require a cooling system calibration after a different CPU is installed. An ASP can do the calibration.

I am trying to get into a Toshiba satellite pro S500-15W bios. I have tried the F2 key and the FN + F2 keys together still no joy. Then downloaded the latest version (2013) of the bios update for this series and windows 7, 32 bits. When I try to run the update I get "This computer is not support" message. Can someone help.

Inherited a TOSHIBA SATELLITE laptop computer (2008 vintage) from my daughter. It had VISTA on it and an old version of IE. Would not update IE saying it was 'not computable with OS'. So I installed w-7 allowing the 'C' system partition to be overwritten; then installed SP-1 update. Works fine now, except I need to update the touchpad driver. Synaptics was original driver but was erased on the w-7 install. Tried to see if the available download for VISTA from Synaptics might work but it will not install.
The touchpad as it functions from the W-7/SP-1 is pretty sad in my way of thinking. Is there a program or driver I might install to improve it to something similar to as-it-was or maybe better?

I am using a Satellite Pro S500-139 and am having problems with my F9 key. When i type my palm touches the mouse and send the cursor somewhere else on the page. I have reinstalled the ALPS pointing device and now have access to the advanced setting that i wasn't able to get.

Although i can adjust the sensitivity etc i would really like to be able to use the shortcut to disable the mouse momentarily whilst typing. My keyboard shows that if i press fn and F9 the i should be able to disable the mouse however the function doesnt work. all the other F9 functions appear to work.

Do you know if there is a resolution to this?

I am running windows 7 pro 32 bit service pack 1.

My new Satellite Pro S500, age: 2 hours have just performed the "start up" and installed all drivers. My first step was to go to +windows update+ and update the different security patches, etc. Windows identified 74 updates - and I let the laptop perform the download. It installed approx. 15% and automatically rebooted. The laptop started up, installed approx 30% and rebooted.

Now the laptop has *freezed* at the "Toshiba - Leading Innovation" frontpage. If I try to turn off the laptop it turns to sleep mode - and returns to the "Toshiba" page again.

Any ideas of how to get out of this loop?

Thank you in advance

And have you already tried to remove the battery and AC/DC adapter? Try this and leave both disconnected for at least one hour.

Then install battery and connect AC/DC adapter and try to start your notebook again. Does it past the Toshiba BIOS screen now?

I'd like to upgrade my graphics driver since it is a bit old (2010) and some program starts to ask for it.

Toshiba Satellite Pro S500-14 T
Part No. PSSE0E-0LM07QIT
Serial No. YA175628H

Intel HD Graphics
Current driver installed:

I tried searching on but this is the result:
+A customized computer manufacturer driver is installed on your computer.+
+The Intel Driver Update Utility is not able to update the driver. Installing a generic Intel driver instead of the customized computer manufacturer driver may cause technical issues.+
+Contact your computer manufacturer for the latest driver for your computer.+

Searching my PC in the [Download drivers, software patches, and other updates for your Toshiba product] section result into a "No drivers available."

So, my question is: where can i find an update for my graphics driver (if it exists)?

Answer:Satellite Pro S500-14T - I'd like to upgrade my graphics driver

To be honest I would not update the driver only because the driver version is old!
I would try to update the driver ONLY if I would notice some problems in connection with other applications like games, etc?

However, fact is that drivers which are released on Toshiba EU driver page are certified by Toshiba. It?s recommended to use such drivers.

If you want to install the drivers from other sources, you can do that only at your own risk.
There is no guarantee that such drivers would work properly.

Anyway, the notebook supports Intel HD graphics. This graphic unit is part of the Intel CPU

This Intel HD graphics was the first internal Intel GPU and the follower were Intel HD 2000/3000/4000 and now 5000

I have an Satellite Pro S500-11C running Windows 7, I am seeing an unknown device in system information. The missing driver shows up on as Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver, but I can't find this on the Toshiba site, and when I go to the Intel site there are several versions with no obvious way to tell which one I need.

My laptop's touchpad works better when the generic windows driver is installed, rather than the Synaptics driver. Except the generic driver doesn't have scrolling capabilites. Is there an alternate driver for Vista laptops besides Synaptics??

The specific problem is the touchpad click. It takes 3-4 touches to get a click. I modified the settings to the most sensitive, yet this doesn't solve the problem. It clicks every time on the first point without the Synaptics driver.

Answer:Alternative Touchpad Driver

Try the Hotfix for Vista touchpad-

My GF has been having issues with her touchpad. It's apparently pretty inconsistent - sometimes when she goes to right click, the touchpad thinks she's just left clicking. I've seen her do it, so it's not really like she's tapping it wrong or anything. My touchpad on my Y2P was also pretty finnicky, so I installed another Synaptics driver. Unfortunately, this meant that I had to install something so I could hit a button to disable the touchpad while in Tent or Tablet mode. Is there maybe any driver she could check out to alleviate her Touchpad woes, without forcing her to find a workaround for disabling the Touchpad in different modes?

Answer:Yoga 11s Touchpad Driver options - is there any alternative?

As an update, I had updated her drivers, but still she gets issues. Apparently instead of always left clicking accidentally, she'll accidentally right click.Should I roll back to other drivers until I find one that works? I'd get a different one for her, but then the problem is that the touchpad won't disable when you go into tablet mode.

I would like to buy some of these notebooks fpr my company but I'm a little confused, because the only difference between these models that I found was that the 116 has a HD-Webcam, which I don't care about but still
But then I wonder why the 11R is more expensive....

Please help me because I would really want to choose Toshiba over Fujitsu Lifebook :)

Answer:Differences between Satellite S500-116 and Satellite S500-11R

Hi lt.hotze,

You can compare the specifications of these notebooks on the Toshiba page:

Satellite Pro S500-11R:

Satellite Pro S500-116:

It seems that both models are designed for the German market?

Anyway, they are equipped with the same CPU, RAM, graphic card, etc. The only difference seems to be the webcam, S500-116 has a HD webcam.

The mouse, out of nowhere, starts to go to the right or to the left and there is nothing to do to remove it from the place. Sometimes it stops and others doesn't. This problem prevents us from working. It has nothing to do with the mouse (we tried several) or with docking station because it happens without the docking station.

Hello all,

I have a Toshiba Satellite L300-1AP that has problems in the touchpad area. I've replaced the touchpad itself and refreshed the drivers but the problem remains.

Sometimes there is no response at all, at other times it just moves the mouse pointer extremely slowly and erratically. When the first problem occurred I attached a USB mouse which worked fine. On subsequent attempts the mouse is not recognised at all, on any port. I've adjusted the sensitivity via control panel (Win7) but there is little difference in behaviour. I'm also aware of the Fn+F9 switch.

I suspect the thing is destined for scrap. Any suggestions as to how to rescue it would be gratefully received.

Thanks for your time,

To start off, I seen another thread about the TouchPad not working but this is a slightly different situation.. First off, it's a really new computer and I'm dual booting windows 10 and linux. Anyways, the TouchPad only works in windows but it randomly stops working every once in a while and I have to go into the mouse settings and re-enable it but what I thought was really weird is that when I go to the efi firmware settings, it doesn't work either.. The mouse cursor is stuck on the left side of the screen and i have to use the keyboard to navigate, even a Bluetooth mouse won't work there.. That tells me that is not a windows issue but that also tells me that is not a hardware issue either because it works in windows when i enable it in the settings.. I also have to use the bluetooth mouse for linux as it doesn't work at all.. I'm not a noob by no means, i fix pc's for a living and i usually have some kind of idea on how to fix issues but this one, i have no idea.. Any help would be great! Thanks!

I have a Toshiba Satellite L305d S394 that had the Vista virus on it when I purchased it one year ago. I scratched the original OS and installed W7 on it and found immediate relief. The only problem I am having is that the touchpad is way too touchy. I will be typing in one window and the cursor will jump, of its own volition, to another place in the document, to another window, or will bring up some menu option (like delete!!!!!)

I have read the Toshiba website, as well as a few other sites that I found googling but seem to get doublespeak about this problem.

Is there any way to find a file that is only a driver for the touchpad? I kept getting directed to a master "help you upgrade to 7" file, and I was afraid that if I used it I might take out all of my data files.

About 2 months ago I bought this super gaming laptop by Toshiba(on sale 1 yr old and guarantee expired)(Store didn't tell me that part)and of course, I use it for gaming.
Last month I was into FPS and the touchpad kept getting in my way since the palm of my left hand kept swiping over it and I got killed easily.
therefore, to get rid of the problem, I disabled it from BIOS ( the updated 2.10 BIOS version ) and when I got out of the FPS spirit, I wanted to re-enable it again. but for my surprise it wasn't working!
I tried EVERYTHING I could think of.
-returning bios to original settings
-recovering my laptop to out-of-box state
but nothing.

does anyone here have ANY idea of how I can re-enable it again?

PS: Talked with a Toshiba representative and he didn't help me at all!

Answer:Toshiba laptop touchpad driver

Hi GKahn

Try looking in control panel for mouse , see if it can be enabled from there.

You can also try hitting the fn key and f9 at the same time. On Toshiba that should lock and unlock the touchpad.

I have a Dell lap top, I am going by memory from what I have read in this Forum.

I upgraded my laptop with Vista to Windows 7 Professional and ever since then I cannot get access to the touchpad settings at all. I want to turn off the tapping and turn on the scrolling. I have tried installing and uninstalling the device as well as the new the new driver for my symantics touchpad from the symantics website and the recommended driver from the toshiba site but neither has worked.

When I go into device properties and go to change settings the only options I have are to specify the actions the two buttons have.

Totally absolutely should have been an easy fix.

I have a Toshiba Satellite E205, Win 7. A small icon with a picture of the touchpad keeps appearing in the middle of my screen, quickly followed by a similar one, but with a red circle. The mouse or touchpad then freezes briefly. By looking in Task Manager, Processes, I see that this is accompanied by the appearance of touchpadED.exe, which then disappears from processes. I think it started when I unplugged a USB hub with mouse and keyboard from my computer while it was still on. I removed and reinstalled the Synaptics Touchpad driver from Toshiba, ran virus scan and malware software, and cannot stop the process in Task Manager. How can I get rid of this problem??

Hi sam0056,

To be honest I don?t know what you talk about...
Do you want to hear music on external speakers or headphones? If yes you must just connect external speakers. The internal speakers will be muted automatically.

Otherwise new drivers you can download from official Toshiba page.

I went to use my laptop today, and I discovered that the touchpad has stopped working. In fact, I was unable to even get past the sign-on screen, and if it weren't for the fact that I got a mouse arrow with a plug-in USB mouse, the laptop would be completely dead to me.

My son uses the laptop for Minecraft gaming, but I don't think that has anything to do with this. Even a reboot didn't change anything. I wonder if a Windows update screwed something up (again)? I'm at a loss. I'm not always where I can set up a physical mouse to use - and frankly I don't want to have to.

Any suggestions?

Answer:My Toshiba Satellite touchpad suddenly stopped working

Found the solution. When I pressed the F5 button (not Fn + F5), I got a popup that said "touchpad disabled." When I pressed it again, it said "touchpad enabled." I unplugged my USB mouse and tried again, and it's now working. What a screwed up design that allows a user to accidentally disable one's touchpad with an accidental press of the F5 key. Then you have to research the problem before figuring out the problem. Someone in the Toshiba laptop design department should be fired.

Hello all,

I own a Toshiba P30-135.

I experience TOUCHPAD temporary freezes from time to time.

During freeze the mouse cursor cannot be moved for 30 seconds to a couple of minutes.

Freeze occurs randomly, at least once a week, often once every day.

The last available driver on the Toshiba site is installed.

The software installation is clean without suspect software, spyware and viruses (I'm a specialist of IT security)

I read on the web two different stories :

1. it is due to an electrostatic problem, and it is required to change the top cover on some models. However on mine the display had to be changed recently by Toshiba maintenance and they changed the top cover, too, (which was corroded by sweat). The problem occured before mantenance and still after maintenance.

2. It is a "normal" process whereby the software readjusts mouse settings. I never found anything from Toshiba about this. However I never saw any PC from any brand freeze for minutes before, and I do not find this normal as it can freeze during critical phases.

Does anyone have information about this issue ? and / or any information on how to disable the "auto-adjust" feature if it is true and consequences ? Any standard driver able to replace without the feature ?

Many thanks !

Answer:Ramdom freeze of Toshiba ALPS touchpad on Satellite P30-135

I?ve got the same problem like you sometimes on my machine (Tecra S5). Since I am using often the touchpad it occurs during work and it?s very annoying.

What I?ve found out was that since my hands are sweating when I am typing some longer docs, the sweat adheres on the surface of the pad and generates some kind of layer which prevents the pad to get the "touch" from my fingers.
After cleaning the touchpad gently with some non-aggressiv kitchen cleaner, it works like a charm and stops blocking for some weeks till it?s starts over again. I think humans cannot disable sweating like a background process under windows. Would be interesting if you could check this, clean your pad and report if the pad works after cleaning it.
Thats also sometimes a good reason to clean the whole machine periodically from sweat, debris and dust. (Don?t forget the ventilation holes from the cooling system ;) )
It?s like cleaning your apartment, just keeping it clean and preventing some bigger SH**. :)

When I have the touchpad enabled the cursor jumps around the screen when I'm typing somthing causing me grief. It also has minimized the current browser I'm in, not always but has happened.

When I disable it and connect my Logitech wheel mouse (which I'v used for 2+ years) the problem disappears but I can't highlight/select things properly. For example, normally when I double click on a word it highlights but it doesn't do that anymore. Or when I try to select a a few words it selects the entire sentence or parts of it. I have to use the shift and arrow key. Also using the vertical scroll gives me a problem as well.

I downloaded and installed the current mouse drivers, changed the USB the mouse connects to...nothing. I'm using XP Home version (i've only used the pro version before).

Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Hi there,

Im having problems with my Toshiba Satellite Pro A200 Touchpad. It was fine until when i was walking down the stairs and accidently dropped it. The hard drive had to be replaced and the touchpad wansn't working. I've tried to diagnose the problem by checking device manager updating driver's etc. And ive narrowed it down to 2 causes: Damaged motherboard OR the touchpad wire has come loose/off. So as im really good with computers and very good with laptop's i need to disassemble my Laptop to get to the touchpad wire and check it out first. And then i will know if it is the touchpad or the motherboard. And now I have never disassembled a laptop before i have no idea what the process is especially for my medel which i cannot find guides for as it is not a very recent one. Could someone please give instructions on how to disassemble it? I will leave model and other info. about it at the end of this post. I would appreciate links to a guide etc or just simple easy instruction and pictures would be helpful.

Thank you ever so much for reading this wall of text and Thank you if you decide to help me out

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Pro A200 Laptop Touchpad Issues

Dropping it could have damaged the touchpad itself. Not just the wires.

If it is still under warranty, do not open it. RMA it to Toshiba.

I hope someone can help me with this weird problem
My laptop is Satellite U405-S2833 with 1.2 GB Core 2 duo.

It came with a Vista home premium operating system, but I later added XP professional to it (Dual booting)
About 10 months ago, the touchpad as well as the 3 USB ports stopped functioning. Two of the ports will not recognize peripherals, but could power the items, while the third was totally redundant. Since then, I have been using an express card USB adapter for attaching an external mouse and other peripherals. The problems were occurring in both operating systems.
Laptop technicians have had a look at it to no avail.

Here comes the weird part: On occasions when I had to repair or install windows, the pad works perfectly, only to stop working after windows has fully installed.

NB: I have updated the BIOS to the latest version (4.0). Windows 7 RC also exhibited the same problem

Answer:Weird touchpad problem with Toshiba Satellite U405-S2833

I have a Toshiba Satellite A200 running 32 bit Vista, and I used to be able to scroll with the touchpad, however, it doesn't seem to be working any longer. Also, in the synaptics pointing device program, I am unable to configure actions to the left and right buttons. I checked apoint.exe and it seems to be working fine...does anyone know what may be causing this or how to fix it? What should I be reinstalling? It's very annoying and I'd like to be able to scroll without holding the button and dragging. Thanks

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A200 Notebook - Synaptics Touchpad Not Scrolling?

It could be a hardware issue.

I had similar problems w/ notebook - mousepad had to be replaced.

You could try to un-install all drivers in Device Manager then re-boot. Vista will re-install. Also make sure to go to OEM site and get updated driver - if available.

Note that you will lose mouse function completely after un-install. Have USB mouse or b/c familar with CTRL-ALT-DEL that will get you to screen so you can use arrow keys to restart system

My touchpad has stopped working. The little mouse light in the top left hand corner is off. When I attach an external mouse the pointer reappears and all is fine, when I remove the mouse the pointer goes away again.

Pressing F5 does not appear to be doing anything.

It has happened a couple of times in the past but a reboot seems to fix it. However this time nothing has fixed it. I have even tried re-installing the TouchPad drivers from Toshiba's website.

Any advice would be gratefully. Thanks.

Is it just me or are Toshiba Sat. A series just junk. I bought a 205-s5000 about 14 months ago. It could not load any of my Adobe software on it.
Today I tried to load a driver for my Linksys adapter but guess what, the DVD was not recognized.
I get the error message that the driver file may be damaged (error code 39). Now I can't do anything with the DVD as I can't access the web site,
The DVD won't work so I can't load the adapter driver.

I can't use the boot disk to set the computer to it original state. The laptop is useless. If someone has an email address for anyone at Toshiba, I would appreciate it.

Answer:Satellite A205-S500 - Failed DVD

Sounds like the IO Filters or operating system is corrupted.

My Windows became corrupted as well the other day - thats just how Windows is. The more you use it and the more programs/drivers you install, the higher possibility that something will go wrong or get corrupted. So I reinstall Windows once a year to keep it fresh.

Try this:

Try removing the CD/DVD Filters from the Registry.
When CD/DVD related software is installed (such as iTunes, Nero, virtual CD software), they install filters into the registry, which can cause compatibility problems.

1) Run Regedit (Start -> Run -> Regedit)
2) Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3) In the right pane, delete the "UpperFilters" key, and delete the "LowerFilters" key.
4) Reboot.

If your CD/DVD programs stop working, you will need to reinstall them (preferably with an updated version).

This utility can remove the filters for you:

If thats no good, then it may be time to reinstall Windows.

Hi Folks,

I am experiancing a problem with my Satellite Pro S500-11C where it unexpectedly hangs and the fan goes to full speed. Reboot is my only option and this has resulted in the windows having to recover a few times so I am fearful of a needing a major rebuild after a future hang. So far this problem has only occured when using a 3G mobile wireless USB stick or internet teathering via USB with my iphone 3G. Using a different USB port has not helped.

Has anyone else experienced this problem and have a fix? Any help from Toshiba?

Best Regards,

Answer:Satellite Pro S500-11C hangs and fan goes to full

Hmmmm... what to say. Problem is that you use third part hardware and software and some conflicts are possible. The question is: who can help you with this?
Generally speaking you should talk with your ISP provider at first to see what they will say about all this.

Have you already spoken with them?

Answer:Port Replikator for Satellite Pro S500-116

If there is a Port Replicator connector on the Base of the S500, then you would need the Express Port Replicator.

Otherwise if there is no Port Rep connector, you will need to use a USB Docker, such as the DynaDock.

We bought toshiba Satelite pro S500-115, and we are very much dissapointed!!!
In first two months I brought to service three times, because it was freezing up every few hours.
Finally they changed CPU and motherboard.

Then, the major problem appeared.
I couldn't make recovery media before, because of freezing, but now, the official service also deleted the hard drive - just in case....
So, I don't have recovey media, it can't be downloaded, neither the other media from Win7 doesn't accept the number from bellow.

I send the mail for help many times to toshiba headquarters, but they just don't care! I found out that, I must pay extra to get the media - but I allready bought system! This is really shiiit, and I don't suggest to my customers to buy anything from Toshiba.

I really don't like their atitude. they just want to sell, but then they just don't care, *******es!

Answer:Satellite Pro S500-115 - Recovery media

Really sad story mate?
I think you should get in contact with a local ASP in your country.
As far as I know in many (maybe all) European countries you can find Toshiba subsidiary and I think the ASP should be able to forward this to the Toshiba in your country.

Good luck man?

PS: I had some problems with my notebook and my ASP was very helpful. I was very satisfied how the issue has been handled?

I bought a S500-11C In July. I set it up with a start up password and it seemed ok. Switch on, enter password and away you go.
I wrote the password down "Just in case"

Due to circumstances the laptop was then not used for about two months. It now does not recognise the password and will not start up.

What can I do to rectify this?

-BIOS supervisor password

I have started gettng the dreaded BSOD on my laptop. It is fully up to date with all drivers as far as I am aware. There doesn't seem to be anything obvious aboyut when it happens but it is starting to get annoying..

this is the event data
BugcheckCode 209
BugcheckParameter1 0x34
BugcheckParameter2 0x2
BugcheckParameter3 0x1
BugcheckParameter4 0x91997171
SleepInProgress false
PowerButtonTimestamp 0

can anyone point me in the right direction please.

Answer:BSOD on a 3 month old Satellite Pro S500-11C

BSOD is a product of serious software error or hardware problem.
You should firstly try to find out if it?s really related to installed software.

As you said; the BSOD appear spontaneously and without and suddenly so I believe it would be not easy to replicate this BSOD.
Therefore it?s important to start some ?basic? steps in order to check what could cause this.

Firstly I recommend checking the RAM.
Memory issues could cause BSOD; for this check use an free diagnostic tools like memtest86 or similar (google helps).
If no memory problem would be detected, then you should check if BIOS and other drivers are up to date. Check especially the graphic card driver.

An new OS recovery would be the option too. But note; backup the data before using recovery because the HDD would be formatted

on the Satellite Pro S500-14Z I can?t access the BIOS via F2 and can?t change the bootpriority via F12. By pressing F2 or F12 while starting, the S500 beeps and restarts. On the first start, I had access to Bios and set the supervisor password and activated TPM. Since that, I have no access to BIOS before Windows-boot. Is there any other key for bios-access (i tried ESC, F1, DEL, INS) or how can I change the supervisor-pw (i know my actual password!) and deactivate TPM?

Answer:Satellite Pro S500-14Z - How to access the BIOS?

Hi karlS_1,

Normally you can access the BIOS if you press F2 key before Windows start. Does it work with an external keyboard?

You can change some BIOS settings using Toshiba HWsetup. This tool is preinstalled on your notebook and you can change the boot order with this tool.

I have a Satellite Pro S500. There is a problem with the keyboard. When I type (no matter whether I am using Word, a web browser or any other application, though the problem seems to have been especially serious when typing this particular post) the cursor sometimes (often) jumps randomly: it may go back a few words or it may highlight a random section of text (it also makes no difference whether I am using an external mouse or not or how heavy/light the typing style is).

It has been suggested that it may have something to do with the sensitivity of the touch pad; however, reducing its sensitivity has had no effect whatsoever. This is a very unnerving problem and would be grateful for any advice.

Thank you.

Answer:Satellite Pro S500 - Cursor jumps randomly

Hi ap4h,

I think you are touching the touchpad during typing so you should disable the tapping function of touchpad. This can be done in touchpad driver options.

I have downloaded the correct BIOS update from the site multiple times and I have tried both the Windows 7 install that came shipped and booting from a Windows XP (PE) CD. Whenever I try to update the BIOS I get the following message from the "Toshiba BIOS Package" program is: "This computer is not supported".

The file that is linked from either selecting the model manually or by auto detection is P0076v290_EC72V190.exe.

Has anyone been able to flash the BIOS on this model? My thoughts are that the site is linking to the wrong download? Has anyone got a working BIIOS update?

By the way: what kind of help do you expect? Some new driver that makes speakers louder maybe?

Hello, I wonder if anyone can help.

I work for a Borough Council IT department so it is quite safe to say that I know a fair bit about IT and the hardware side of things. We had a about 12 Toshiba Satellite S500 laptops delivered, 11 x S500-11C and 1 x S500-10E. As we don't yet support windows 7 so we have to rebuild them in Windows XP, install the drivers etc and send them out to schools.

All of the S500-11C models have been built and work with no issues at all. The only difference that I can see is the 10E model doesn't have bluetooth whereas the 11C model does. The 10E model will take the ghost image created from the 11C but it likes to reboot itself every 5 mins or so and is extremely slow.

So I rebuilt the 10E model using our Microsoft Licencing CD XP SP3, and started to install the drivers etc. When I installed the Ricoh Card Reader software the laptop again slowed down (about 5 minutes to boot into Windows). I used to have a similar issue with a model on the A300 range and I updated the BIOS whcih cured the problem. I have downloaded the one and only BIOS update from the Toshiba website for the S500 and when I try to intsall it, it comes back with a message that says "this computer is not supported".

If anyone at Toshiba can tell me where I can get a BIOS update that works for my S500-10E or indeed why my system has slowed down to a snails pace after installing the Ricoh Card reader software I would be most grateful. I have removed the software a... Read more

Our company has recently purchased three of the S500-11C laptops.

One of the software packages we use requires Java to be installed in the browser, this is not a problem in IE or Chrome but we cannot get Java installed on Firefox, which is the main browser we use.

We have tried various different versions of Firefox and Java but nothing seems to work. We have also tried switching off 'Enable the next-generation Java Plug-in' feature in Java but this has not helped. One suggestion was to try moving a couple of files from the /java/bin folder to the /firefox/plugin folder, but this simply caused Firefox to crash when it tried to load applets.

The laptop is fresh out of the box and is running Windows 7 32-bit. I think it might be some sort of conflict between the Toshiba Apps and Firefox.

Has anyone else come across this issue, or provide any assistance?

I think it?s hard to say what is causing this exactly but theoretically it could be related to the HDD?

I have the following situation with my Satellite Pro S500-115:

The battery seems to be faulty now (it doesn't charge anymore and Win 7 Pro tells me to replace it).
When I turn on the laptop and the battery is plugged, it works for a few minutes and then it suddenly turns off.

But even if I remove the battery and have the laptop plugged with the DC IN, when I press the turn on button nothing happens!!!

Shouldn't the laptop be able to operate in such circumstances, that is only plugged to the power grid and with the battery plugged off? Is there anything that I must set in order to make it work like this?

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Problem turning on Satellite Pro S500 without battery

> The battery seems to be faulty now (it doesn't charge anymore and Win 7 Pro tells me to replace it).
> When I turn on the laptop and the battery is plugged, it works for a few minutes and then it suddenly turns off.

The battery of my 6 years old notebook is dead too? It?s possible to use the notebook in batter mode just for two minutes? after that the battery is empty? but I use the notebook with connected AC adaptor and therefore I don?t need to replace the battery.

> Shouldn't the laptop be able to operate in such circumstances, that is only plugged to the power grid and with the battery plugged off? Is there anything that I must set in order to make it work like this?

Usually the notebook should be able to power up and to operate without connected battery.
My notebook runs properly with an connected AC adaptor only. So what to say? maybe the power supply electronic is affected too? but this is just an suggestion?

But you should definitely check if the BIOS is up to date... sometimes a BIOS update might solve some power and battery issues.

As this laptop is old and not seemingly on Toshiba's support and download site could you run the below as written and attach the log?

Download and install Everest to find this info, at times a summary log of your PC can help, to do this

Install Everest and run
Click Report (top menu) > Report Wizard > Next
Choose System Summary Only > Next
Choose Plain Text > Finish and wait for report to generate
Click Save to File and leave the File Name as Report, then click the Save as Type dropdown and choose Report files (*txt) and click Save (n.b. Save to desktop is best as easy place to find it, use Browse to locate desktop)

Then attach your log to your next post as per these instructions HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post Click to expand...

I've installed my Satellite Z830-10j completely new. Not recovery or else. Clean fresh new Windows. Seems that all drivers had been forund by Windows. But I cannot reestablish the driver or software for this tiny button above the touchpad. It's the button for blocking the touchpad in case you're writing much on the keyboard.

Do you have any idea?

Answer:Re: Satellite Z830-10j - Which driver do I need for touchpad blocking?

Out of curiosity but why you have done this? What is the reason for this? I mean you got perfectly configured and well working OS and I don?t understand people who do this.
Have you created recovery media before you have installed own OS version?

Anyway, I presume you are missing Toshiba Value added package.

Hello everybody!

I have an Satellite C855-21V and it came with Windows 8. After one week of desaster I?m sure I want never again a Windows 8 on my Computer!

So I installed Windows 7 and can find all the drivers somewhere in the internet.
The only thing what is not working is the touchpad.

Win 8 driver don?t work and from other models the win 7 driver don't work.
Does anybody know what Brand is the touchpad or where to find a driver for win 7?

Thank you all for the help!

Best Regards

Answer:Win 7 Touchpad driver is not working on Satellite C855-21V

First of all the touchpad should work after Win 7 installation.
The Windows system contain an standard touchpad driver which should control the touchpad.

Of course the installation of additional Synaptics driver would provide more touchpad features (finger scrolling, etc?) but also without the Synaptics driver the touchpad should work.

Anyway, I already mentioned the Synaptics driver and you can download this here:

PS: is the touchpad enabled? F5 Enables and disables the touchpad

I installed Win 7 (Home Premium, 32Bit) on the Toshiba Satellite A210-10L. After that I've had to install many many drivers! But I can't find drivers for the touchpad so I can scroll up and down with one finger.

You should check vista drivers as most of them are compatible with 7.

Also, try from other models.......

Hi guys/girls :)

I have one question! Recently I bought and installed new windows 7 (x86) on my toshiba Satellite A210-128. I installed all necessary drivers except one, I can't find any TouchPad drivers here -> .

I found generic driver from Synaptics but I'm not sure is it what I'm looking for (I would like my touchpad to be fully functional - scrolling, using shortcuts...).

Please HELP :)

Answer:Need Win7 TouchPad driver for Satellite A210

I had the same situation with my Satellite A300.
Just use Vista touchpad driver. It worked for me perfectly. I have simply installed Vista Synaptics touchpad driver.

I have a P300-19P and have just installed windows 7. Have installed all the relevant Toshiba drivers and everything works fine with the exception of my touchpad, where I have lost all scroll functionality.
I don't seem to be able to find a driver that works nor can I select the mouse as a touchpad under control panel.

As you can appreciate this is rather annoying to lose this, help greatly appreciated.

My touchpad is the only hardware not working with Windows 7. Does anyone have information on the driver to use?

I have enabled the touchpad in the mouse properties.

Answer:Re: Satellite P300 - Need Touchpad driver for Windows 7

What does ?not working? exactly mean? Can you use the touchpad already or do missing only special functions like virtual scrolling?

By the way: Have you already checked the Toshiba page? There you can download all drivers for your notebook: > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

I've just upgraded my S300 to Windows 7 (on a larger hard disk) and I notice that the original touchpad driver no longer works.

It's causing a problem because I normally choose 'left-handed operation' on the mouse options. The Win7 driver only allows 'swap left/right mouse button' - doing this removes the ability to click by tapping the touchpad (the driver 'thinks' the machine is using a standard PS/2 mouse rather than a touchpad). I use 2 other laptops that are configured 'left-handed' so don't really want one that works differently.

Do you know if there's an alternative driver available - or alternatively if there's a different way of configuring the touchpad using standard Win7 drivers?

(Unfortunately I can't access the support information on the S300 page of the 'My Product' section - a 'loading' icon appears below a ser of tabs, but nothing loads up).

Answer:Satellite Pro S300 - Windows 7 driver for touchpad?

Update... I have installed the latest Synaptics driver, but the 'mouse properties' setting is telling me that I have a Synaptics PS/2 compatible touch pad plugged into my PS/2 mouse port. Swapping to left-handed operation produces the same problem described above - the options available are those for a standard mouse e.g. I can alter settings for the 'wheel' (!) but there is no touchpad shown.

I have a little question or rather a problem.

Is there any newer driver for the alps touchpad on Windows 7 64-bit than the 7.5.303.117?
The driver was made for Windows Vista not Windows 7, so it didn't work well on my Notebook!

It's very slow a startup and the first few seconds I can't move my mouse pointer.

Thank you in advance.

By the way sorry for my bad english ;)

Answer:Satellite A200 - need 64-bit ALPS touchpad driver

It is really strange. On Toshiba download page for your notebook model there is listed version 7.100.301.4 for Vista 64-bit. Can you find it?
Please check it again and choose right notebook model - A200 (PSAE3E).

I got this for my daughter via home access, i only have a couple of questions :)

The mouse/touchpad drivers... in device manager is just shows as a ps2 mouse.
Now when i go to the drivers site there is 2 different ones: How do i know which one i should install?

I ask as i have that same erratic cursor problem yes i could just disable the touchpad but i use it not, the mouse supplied (am disabled so use it on the sofa). And i read that there is a setting i can switch off if i go to the advanced mouse properties (which ofc i can't as i don't have the driver installed!!

So which one do i use synaptics or alps?

many thx in advance

Answer:Re: Satellite Pro L450D - Which touchpad driver should i install

There are two touchpad drivers; Alps and Synaptics

Both touchpad drivers are necessary and should be installed!!!

Synaptics driver provides many different options for touchpad like scrolling, etc?
