Iomega 250GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive

Question: Iomega 250GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive

I am new to this forum and have a question.

I have a new computer with Windows 7 home basic on it and all works well. Except the external harddrive of Iomega 250GB USB 2.0. The computer doesn?t see the drive. On this drive is are the backups of files that I want to install on this new computer.
How can I solve this problem? I googled for drivers but cannot find anything.

Preferred Solution: Iomega 250GB USB 2.0 Hard Drive

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Any 3.5" drive at 2T or under should work fine.  Upgrading the CPU would mean buying used - these CPUs went out of production not long after your system was current - and that was a decade ago.

i have a 250gb hd (iomega) , it was working fine, suddenly it stoped recognising in any computer.. i tried in more then 10 computer/laptops.
can any one help me ?

Answer:iomega 250gb hd is not detected by any computer, need help!!

Windows may have failed to assign it a drive-letter, in which case that drive will only be visible in Disk Management:
Go to Control Panel > Admin Tools > Disk Management.

From there you can manually assign a drive-letter by right-clicking it's horizontal ribbon and choosing "Change Drive Letter & Paths"

Hello guys.. newbie here.. just want to seek help regarding HARD Drive replacement , for some reason my laptop wont boot upit only does lights (LED) but will not continue to boot or show the logo/ BIOS so we suspected probably HArdisk problem - in that sense we decided just to BUY a new hard drive and replace the existing 160GB with a 250GB.. Now im not sure if this is compatible enough with the MoBO..and the bios..MODEL : LENOVO 3000 G430 just bought it 4months ago here in Hong Kong.. Advice & tips is appreciated. http://www.vatgia.com/pictures_fullsize/tut1254386189.jpg

Answer:is it ok to put a 250GB Hard drive replacement?

You probably can't update the bios in the machine's current condition and if it's only 4 months old that's probaly unwarranted.Check the size to make sure it slot 1, 2 or 3 ( Different thickness) and bring the old HD with you to the store. Also check to see if the HD is IDE, SATA or PATA. It should say on the HD. If not then check out the spec sheets for your machine. Didn't save them? Try doing a search on here. Good luck with that though, I've seen rubber duckies drown with the level of support that Lenovo offers.Ensure that you have the recovery disks or make them any way you can.Good luck to ya bro.

i recently bought an internal seagate 250gb hard drive and when i installed it it is only finding 232gb i was wondering how i can access the other 18gbs if that is possible. i have seen the 137gb barrier but not something like this. all help would be appreciated.

Answer:250gb hard drive not full 250

its the way that windows reports space compared to the hdd manufactures. the hd manufactures report a meg as 1000 KB, while windows reports it as 1024 KB. no over a large amount of storage (say 80gb) the number will shrink, but the space is still there (will be reported as 74.5GB in windows). so what you have is normal.

I attempted to add a 250 GB hard drive to my PC, 3.0 Ghz, GA-8S648FX MB with 1 Gig DDR Ram. When I boot my PC and go into the bios, it sees the PC, however when the PC boots it doesn't show it in control panel or in "My Computer". I am running Windows XP Pro 2nd Edition and am frustrated. I have the most current bios for my motherboard and Gigabyte says it should be no problem on their end. So what am I doing wrong? I have tried both setting drives as Cable Select and also Master/Slave. I have tried setting it up with the original Windows XP Pro disk but it only sees 137MB. Any ideas? I got a real good deal so I bought 2 of these 250 GB drives for my PCs, too bad they can't see the. BTW, both PCs are the same motherboard only difference is that one of the PCs is a 2.8 Ghz CPU (INTEL). Thanks

Answer:PC won't format 250GB hard drive

Try going to the drive manufacturers website and download their tools and use this to format. There is an issue with drives above 137mb but I thought this was solved with XP.

Hello, We have a customer who has an R40 that we replaced the drive with at their request for more drive space. The biggest drive we could go with was a 250GB drive. Since we installed the drive, the R40 has found it way back to the shop a couple times for a bad hard drive. We use only NEW drives. The drives have been WD 250 ide notebook drives. The original drive was a 40GB in size. In talking with a colleague form another shop, he suggested that the power supply and battery could play some role in this problem. The laptop battery does not hold a charge. The OS is XP Pro with SP2, the computer does see the entire 250GB when installed, this is seen in My Computer and in the BIOS. Can anyone give a suggestion as to what might be causing the larger drives to not last in the R40. The R40 isa Type 2723-LU2. I would appreciate any advice in troubleshooting this. It could be time for her to move to a new laptop. Thanks, Peter

Answer:R40 on it's third 250GB hard drive in four months

well i don't think the R40 has the shock protection system that came in the later T and R series. This means if the laptop experience constant shocks of some magnitude, this may cause faults to develop in the larger hdd, as the fault tolerance level of these new drives are slightly less than the smaller capacity drives. Usually bad sectors or other mechanical faults may develop, if the the drive head routinely crashes into the platter.

Hi beautiful people,

Currently im using a 60gb partition for windows 7 32 bits ultimate in a SATA HD (AIHC mode), i've been told in the past that it is not recommended to use the entire HD as one partition cause slows the system (the needle works more), is that still true?

Answer:Windows 7 in a 250GB Hard Drive

To a certain extent yes, It is better to have one partition in the top of your drive to hold your system files (programs, drivers, etc) and another partition to hold your data. This will help your system run faster.

However, you cannot just rely on this alone. You should do regular disk cleanup using a program like CCleaner (don't use the registry cleaner option) and defragment your hard drive regularly as well.

Hi all, hopefully someone can help?Approx 2 years ago i bought a Medion portable hard drive from my local Aldi. Everything has been fine until today when the connection seems loose. If i connect the hard drive to the cable and plug it into my laptop the hard drive turns on, but the laptop doesn't recognise it, and says its malfunctioned. How do i go about fixing it if at all, and have i lost everything on my portable hard drive. Many thanks,Chris

Answer:Medion 250gb Hard Drive

You could probably disconnect the drive and use it in another external caddy. Before buying another caddy you need to know whether the drive is a SATA or PATA (IDE) probably a SATA if only two years old.

I recently upgraded to Windows 10 and post that It was working fine without any issues. I have two external drive connected to it.

1. 1 TB Iomega powered drive. - now RAW
2. 2TB seagate external drive.

The 1tb drive suddenly became RAW and I wasn't able to access it. before it happened, I had removed some virus detected in the drive by the AVG antivirus. Post that once or twice it got disconnected and after that the drive became RAW. I understand the file system might have got corrupted since couple of times my system faced powercuts and before I could shut it down the system cut off from electricity as my UPS died on me.

I haven't formatted the disk at all, as I have all my important data in this HD as it was my backup drive for office and personal use.

Disk Management: shows the drive is RAW but a healthy Partition.

I opened the hard drive casing, tried connecting the drive directly to the internal sata cable but the same didn't read even then and still shows as RAW drive. I got a Storite USB to SATA adapter and tried that, the drive is now running fine(as it sounds) with intermittent kind of noise (clicking etc.,) for sometime and then disappears. After directly connecting the drive atleast the below softwares are able to read the data in the drive but unable to recover it.

I have tried recovering data using the below softwares.

1. EaseUS DAta recovery - took too much time to complete reading - 17% in more than 24 hours- stopped it.

My recommendation is to use [email protected] Recovery Pro. Hi all,

A friend of mine is having problems with a 250GB Seagate Hard drive.

It was bought from a computer shop and they fitted it for him. When he took it home the computer didnít recognise it. It then recognised it as 250gb, but his Windows OS wouldnít work properly (it would some times work and other times wouldnít).

He had the drive refreshed, re-formatted and had the partitions removed and rebuilt. Its then that 130GB disappeared.

Does anyone know what may have caused this (sorry I havenít given much info, but this is all I know) and if so, whether itís fixable. I have suggested that the drive be taken back to the shop that it was bought from, under warranty.

If you need any more info, please ask, and I will try and find out.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I have recently fitted a Hitachi Deskstar 250gb Hard drive(model:HDS722525VLAT80) to my computer.

After Re-instaling windows (xp) the drive was showing as 125gb.

I have been told this is because windows xp will only support 125gb without service pack 2.

I have now downloaded SP2. but it still shows as 125gb.

Any ideas what I can do to fix this????????????

Answer:250gb Hard drive shows as 125gb

When you partitioned and formatted the drive, it didn't have any service packs, so it limited the format to what you see. If you go into Disk Management, you'll find that you now have about half the drive listed as "Unallocated". You can create a partition on this section and format it, then it will be available for use as a new drive letter.

Greetings,
I have been helping neighbour with their Lenovo-b50-80. It originally came with Windows 8.1 and I have upgraded it to Windows 10 and after a few hiccups is working perfectly.
The next stage of upgrading this laptop is to clone the 500GB original drive to a 250GB Samsung SSD using Aomei Backupper Standard 3.2 and Aomei Partition Assistant 6.0

When I go to Disk Management I find that the disk has 6 partitions. Most of which are probably linked to recovering the OS back to Win 8.1
I would like to get rid of all unessential disk space and so I thought I would ask for your suggestions.
At this moment all the files including Windows.old are located on the C: drive.
Many thanks,
s.

Answer:Resizing Hard-drive To Clone To 250gb Ssd

So I found https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/documents/ht077144. Towards the end of the page is this image;

Which is 2 partitions short of the Lenovo in #1. The 2 missing 1. Lenovo D: drive NTFS partition and 2. 1000MB partition.
Maybe I should keep them all...

Hi there, I've got a 250gb maxtor HD and it can't be detected in bios or something is wrong. WHENEVER its connected (either on its own or with another drive), it says "error loading OS".
(PC boots fine with my other Maxtor 120gb HD)

On some sites it says to set Bios HD Access to LARGE instead of auto/lba etc

BUT - my bios doesnt show me such a setting when i go into HD config screen. I know what screen it should be on, but believe me, there is no "large" option for HD access.

Motherboard = MSI MS-6567

Can someone pls help me?? Thanks so much

Dom

Answer:BIOS won't recognise 250gb Hard Drive

Well, error loading OS only shows that it can't load an OS. Do you have an OS on that drive?
At bootup, your BIOS should list the drives it detects. Do you see the Maxtor in the list (next to the optical drive)?

That's a rather old motherboard. It could be that it simply does not support hard drives larger than ~130GB. And I can't see a BIOS update that would fix it either.. You can try updating to the latest BIOS and hope that it fixes the problem of course.

Hello, I've recently done a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate and one of my harddrives is not showing up correctly. The harddrive itself is my Local Disk D, it hasn't got any system files on it however it is displaying at the wrong size:

The problem lies in the fact that on boot my Computer's BIOS detects the harddrive as a 233GB harddrive. This is not a problem as I understand that the harddrive itself isn't the exact size as what it says on the box, however the Windows 7 installation and Windows itself only detects the harddrive as being 148gb.

What I've Tried Doing:
I've tried different things to resolve this issue. I've looked at the Disk Management, but there are no extra partitions and I've also looked at the harddrive in Partition Manager which again only picked up 149gb and no unallocated space.
I've run a partition recovery tool in Partition Manager which did not detect any lost partitions containing the rest of the harddrive.

Answer:IDE Maxtor 250gb Hard drive Problem.

Hello samboyd93. Welcome to the forum.

The only thing I can think of is that the drive is set as a SATA2 drive on an older computer that only does SATA1 (please fill in your "My System Specs" to help avoid these kinds of guesses) although I doubt it.

If you look at the back of the HDD there are jumper pins. Setting a jumper sets the SATA speed on most drives. You may need to consult the HDD's documentation to see what the different jumper positions do. Every manufacturer has a different setup.

I would try setting the drive as SATA1 to test. But both drives should be at the same setting. Also try plugging the problem drive into a different port or using a different SATA cable. Can't hurt, might help.

You should also go into your BIOS and check the settings for that drive and compare them to the settings for the other drive. They should be the same.

Hope that helps.

Ok, I just built my own custom computer with a little from my friends. And we got it all running and working now, however Windows XP Pro is only detecting the 250GB as 130GB, and this is even when we "formated," and partitioned with Windows XP Pro.

Its not the Hard drive, because we built 2 of the exact same (1 for me and 1 for my bro) however its happening on both machines.

Any help, without wipping the currect data on them? (We've already transfered the data from our laptops to the new computers with our 5pc network)

I've inherited from my recently deceased father a Iomega 100gb external portable hard drive which I've now fitted to my PC. It seems to be functioning OK but when I drag/drop a file/folder it appears as a line description not a folder type icon. I've also noticed that the Iomega is FAT 32 & my C-drive is NTFS, is this a problem? also it indicates total size of 93.1gb, free space of 90.7gb. I therefore suspect that some information is still held on it and ideally I'd like to access that. Happy New year to all the forum membersI am using Hard Disc USB caddy for my backups. I create a full image of my hard drive using acronis 10. Every thing is fine so for.I recently purchased iomega Desktop Hard Drive Hi-Speed USB 2.0 7200 RPM with 320GB capacity.I partitioned this drive and formatted NTFS using Partition Magic 8. I created an image of my desktop XP system on one partition and an image of my laptop (core 2) Vista home premium on the other partition. When I read back the relative partitions and try to open an individual folder I get ?windows explorer has encountered a problem, click OK to close.? This is happening on both Vista and XP systems!!!I recreated the images but no joy. To investigate further I copied a file to one of the partition and read it back. No problem there!!!My caddy does not pose this kind of problem. Am I missing some thing here? Please help if you can. Thanks.

Answer:iomega USB 2 desktop hard drive

There is no need to partition the drive to make two images. An image is just a file (a large one!)Images are.tib files - you simply call them different names when you create them."When I read back the relative partitions and try to open an individual folder...."I don't understand this - an image is just a file, the only folders are compressed inside the file. You can't "read back" a partition - what exactly do you mean?

I have NUC Mini computer which does not recognize my Iomega Ext Hard Drive LDHD250-UCan you suggest where I might be able to download a driver

Answer:Iomega Ext Hard Drive LDHD250-U

If you have installed Windows on your NUC Mini, the driver for all makes of external hard drives is built in to Windows (Microsoft Mass Storage Driver). If your Iomega external hard drive needed a driver, it would have been included with it.It isn't included because it's in Windows already.I have used four different brands of external drives (yes, even an Iomega one) and I have never had to install a driver for any of them - - Windows installs it automatically the first time you plug it in to a USB port.Since the NUC Mini comes with no OS installed, it may be you are not running Windows. Maybe you installed a Linux distro instead?

Answer:Iomega Portable USB 2.0 Hard Drive

It's not backup if there's only one copy, regardless.

The first thing to determine is whether it is the enclosure that has gone bad or the disk inside. Disassemble the enclosure, remove the disk and connect it internally to another desktop computer. See if it comes up on it.

You may have to go to the disk manufacturer's web site for proper jumper settings.

try double going to control panel - administratgive tools - computer management - storage and use either disk management and removable storage. With luck you can then click on your external drive and all will be well.

Hi, Im new to the forums.

Im having problems with my external harddrive i backed up all my data so i could sort out my virus problem which i used the removal of viruses guide on this site. After, my computer was "cleaned" i plugged in my harddrive and and it was recongnized by Vista but when i try to move all my data back to where it belongs it wont move back. Could this be a virus problem or is my system in need off a proper virus "hunt" and a good virus "clean". i can access the files they just wont go on my computer

Thanks,

Sam

Could it be my hard drive infected with a virus is so tell me how to remove it

Answer:WD 250GB hard drive wont move my files

What happens when you try to transfer files? Do you get an error message? You'll need to be more specific than 'it doesn't work'

Ive been reading around and noticed that problems like this are fairly common. Im having troubles finding something that applies to me. I have a Dell Dimensin 8100 P4 1.4 GHZ, its sorta old i guess, it was a relatively new P4 computer i think. I just bought a Hitachi GSX 250GB ATA-100 IDE 8MB Buffer hard drive and havent been able to get it to be recognized at more than 127GB. I tried updating my BIOS (went from Revision A02 to AO9) but that didnt make any difference on the drive. DO i have to wipe the drive and start over with the blank drive or what? I also read that XP Home needs SP1 to recognized more than 127GB so i downloaded SP2 and it didnt make a difference. If anyone can clear up why this isnt working thatd be great. Thanks Alot

I'm trying to upgrade from the 30GB Toshiba harddrive that came with the unit to a Western Digital Scorpio Blue 250GB EIDE drive.
I take the swap the 30GB out for the 250GB put in a bootable version of XP SP3 CD-ROM and nothing - no sign that any power is getting to the drive.
The CDROM tries to write boot files to the hard drive but nothing happens.

Same thing happens when I try to use the 3cd pack from Toshiba or the recovery CD from Norton Ghost.
The computer is not seeing the drive. Put the old 30GB drive in and it boots up right away.

My BIOS settings show it to be set up for EIDE and to boot from the CDROM. What steps am I missing?

Answer:Satellite 2410 wont see new 250GB hard drive

Hi

It looks like the BIOS does not recognize the new HDD? I assume it?s too large?
The Satellite 2410 series is old and I assume it will not support bigger HDD?s than 120GB due to the 28bit LBA

So try with smaller HDD like 80GB or 100GB.

Greetings

Hi,

I'd like to upgrade my current HD to the Seagate 250GB Internal Ultra ATA Hard Drive. My computer is 7 years old this June, so I'm curious about whether it's compatible or not. My current HD's specs are located here: http://support.mpccorp.com/apps/specs.asp?ID=1971

Specifically: Embedded Controller Interface: (40 pin) EIDE
Physical Dimensions (H x W x D): 1" x 5.78" x 4"

I have the most recent BIOS update for my computer which was released in 2002. I run XP SP2, PIII 735 MHz, 256 Megs RAM. Do you think this upgrade would work or would I just need to toss the idea and get a new computer?

Also, the HD's specs are located here: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=8004679&type=product&id=1155848396138

Thanks so much,
James

Answer:Seagate 250GB Internal Ultra ATA Hard Drive

The 7200 hard drive wil give better data transfer, but on your system, p111, 735mhz, increasing your ram would help, I would say, more.
XP runs better with more memory.
Upgrading to a later cpu, and motherboard, would give your old pc, a new lease of life.

I recently upgrade my PC, and have installed a NEW 250 GB S-ATA Hard drive.
My bios has been upgraded, and when in the BIOS setup it recognizes the drive as what it should be, 250GB, When I was installing XP and creation a partition thru the intall progam it only let me setup a 131GB partition. I set up a 100GB partition and left the rest to play with afterwards. In the Computer management/disk manager in XP I have my 100GB partition and only 30GB of unallocated space to work with.

Does anyone know how I can resolve this problem?

Shamus

Answer:250GB Hard drive, Windows only allows 131GB partitionable

Since this was a fresh install you need to add SP2. XP came out with a 137G limitation which was addressed with SP1. SP2 has replaced SP1.

If you only want a single 250G partition there are a couple of ways to address it.

1) Install SP2 and then run Partition Magic to resize the primary partition to pick up the extra 150G.

or
2) Slipstream SP2 into your copy of XP and then start over from scratch with a fresh install.

Hi there,

My Sister owns a ASUS laptop running Windows Vista and has a portable hard drive (WD 250GB) which she uses to back up her files and to store her business files and personal files (music, photos, videos etc.) however, i plugged it into my MacBook to transfer files onto it. Now when i try to plug it back into her Asus, it doesn't recognise it and when "Computer" is opened the hard drive is displayed as "Local Disk (G". I am able to double click the text, but a window pops up saying "You need to format the disk in drive G: before you can use it." But i do not want to format the hard drive because the files on it aren't backed up. I've tried plugging it back into my MacBook, but that doesn't recognise it either.

Any help would be fantastic!

Thanks

Answer:WD 250GB Portable Hard Drive requesting format

you may need to rename it as for example in her comp that may have been E drive and in mac F drive so drives have gotten mixed up
try vista disc management if you can see it there change drive letter, or try in safe mode, ie connect drive with comp off then re boot into safe mode

Hello all. I'm hoping someone can help me. I have a 250gb maxtor hard drive. I have just purchased my second external case off of ebay and it does not work!!

The first one was no name brand, it says "Awesome" on the case and has lights that light up around the case. It said on the web it supports up to 250gb, and on the auction. When I plug it in, it recognizes it and I can view an play files off of it for maybe 5 minutes then it says "USB device not recognized" and gives errors like "this usb device can run faster on USB 2.0" which it is in a 2.0 port. Funny thing is right when I got it, it worked for a few hours, it kept working pretty well at first for maybe a week, then it just stops working after a few minutes.

So I purchased another one on ebay, another non name brand, it said it supports up to 250 gb, and this one it recognizes it for a few seconds and then it is suddently not on my computer at all. I have checked the device manager under both of these items and for drivers, etc. Everything seems to be working fine. I even downloaded a file that helps your computer recognize high disk space, although I was told on XP I don't have to do that. So what do you all think?? Is it just the cheap external case?? I have a Dell Inspirion 1100 with a celeron processor, purchased 1.5 years ago. I have tried the case on other computers that were better than mine, I have tried the hard drive straight into a computer and it works fine. I have the... Read more

I own an Iomega eGo 1TB externally powered HDD. Yesterday after 2 years i dropped it and now whenever I connect it to my laptop using the usb cable, it beeps for 5 seconds and is neither discovered in Win XP (Ihave tried 2 machines) nor in Disk Management. What to do ?

Answer:Iomega hard drive not recognized & beeps

I'd say it's toast. Assuming it's out of warranty, you can try removing the HDD from the enclosure and connecting internally, via a USB adapter, or using another enclosure. The most common fault is the enclosure. However, since this unit was dropped, the actual HDD is likely damaged. In which case it's time to buy a new drive and move on.

I have a new 320GB Iomega portable/external USB2 hard drive, purchased some time ago as a spare, but - until now - not used. So it has no data on it other than whatever might have been on it from the factory.
The fundamental problem is that when plugged in, it does not show up as a drive in the "My Computer" screen. I have plugged it in to different USB ports, and in two separate laptops, one WinXP (yes yes, I know....) and one Win7. The power light on the drive illuminates, and the case vibrates/hums very slightly which suggests that the hard drive is spinning. But it simply doesn't appear as a drive. There are some clues (which I hope forum experts may be able to interpret). See details below. First, I tried to see if there was a hardware problem:
1) I checked the connecting USB cable, by using another different and known-good cable. Same problem: drive not visible. Which suggests the original USB cable is OK.
2) To check if there was a fault in the actual Iomega PCB inside the casing, I opened the case, disconnected and removed the hard drive (it's made by Seagate), and installed it in another, spare, hard drive caddy which I happened to have - and which has its own known-good USB PCB interface. Plugged this into my laptop(s). Still no drive visible or listed in "My Computer" - which suggests that the original Iomega PCB USB interface is not the problem.
So.... is the hard drive dead? It seems to spin OK. Or is there a software issue, or something else? Incidentally all my... Read more

Answer:iomega external Hard drive is not recognizing

There are various softwares which can recover data, but the prerequisite for all of them is that the PC is able to detect the drive. That being the case, all I can suggest is to send it to a data recovery service, but that is mega expensive.

Important & irreplaceable data should never be stored on only one hard drive. I have four external drives, each one storing the same data.

Hi all,

I am new to this but attempting to try to recover some files from my Iomega external hard drive. I was suprised it came up with an error when I plugged it in as i hardly used it, just for backing up.

Now it has alot of files on I would like to attempt to get back. Pictures etc.

The error is cyclic crc check - drive needs formatting.

The drive still spins up ok, i can hear it. The computer can see the drive.

I tried the Recuva software but It cannot access the drive.

I have tried to type CMD chkdsk/r as I saw this may do something online but all i get is insufficient priviledge. I tried altering the user admin account but didnt make a difference.

Is there anything else I can do presonally?

How much does professional recovery cost?

Many thanks
David

Try removing the drive from its enclosure and kook it directly to the computer.

As for the chkdsk, run CMD as Admin first. shouldn't get access denied.

Also I would try booting off of a Linux LiveCD such as Ubuntuand see if you can see the drive that way.

Hello,

I am trying to run an iomega Select Desktop Hard Drive, 1 TB. You can see it here (http://reviews.cnet.com/external-ha...-34147148.html?tag=contentMain;contentBody;2r)

I cannot find any drivers or any info really for this device online.

I am running Windows 7 on a intel core i5 processor. I used to have no problem running it on this computer. It now will not show up in Disk Management or Device Manager. The blue light on the device is on and I have even tried a different power supply as well as a different port, and unplugging/restarting the computer.

The only other thing I can think of is the USB cord may be bad, but I don't have anything to try out. I am hoping that it is not completely dead - lots of files on this device.

Please let me know if you need any more info or if there is anything else I can try! I'm desperate! Thanks in advance

Answer:iomega External Hard Drive won't recognize

Does it work on another machine?

Has it been bumped or knocked or dropped?

Youu should have all your files backed up especially those on portable drives because they are the most likely to fail and lose all their files. All hard drives will fail.

If it doesn't appear in Device Manager, then the drive or its enclosure may be faulty (if not the cable). If it is under warranty, you should replace it. If not, you may need to remove the drive from its case and try connecting it to a machine through a USB adapter or connected internally to a desktop PC to see if it works without the enclosure.

The hard drive in your computer is in one of two states right now. It's
either going to fail or it already failed. Hard drives are inherently
fragile things with no built in redundancy.

Hi all. First time post!Am having a problem with an Iomega eGo external hard drive. I'm running XP on a Samsung netbook. When I connected the eGo, it worked first time, a bit slowly, but i could access the files. There's only about 40GB on there, but they are big video files. The second time i did it - and now every time - it does the following (excuse the lack of technical language): first the computer seems to recognise it (it makes that bimbom sound you get you plug in a USB device), then, after a long time, it scans the files. But then nothing. The light on the eGo is blinking so it's working and moving, but the computer can't seem to recognise it any more. At this point I wait, and wait and wait. The light on the eGo is still on, sometimes it flickers. But nothing else happens. If I go to MyComputer, the whole thing is slow. Eventually, if I leave it, it recognises the hard drive and F: will come up. When I click on this to see the contents, a long, long pause and freeze occurs and when it thaws the computer says the hard drive is not formatted and do I want to format it.I tried using the Dos prompt and pressing F: and - after a long pause, during which the eGo light flickrs - I got: "The volume does not contain a recognised file system. Please make sure that all required file system drivers are loaded and that the volume is not corrupted."I've tried it on two other laptops, both running XP. Same results.So. When I plug my hard drive in it is recognised however I have several problems.

1) If I start a large file transfer halfway through the drive 'disappears' and the transfer hasn't finished.
2) when I try to 'safely remove hardware' it tells me it is the volume cannot be stopped now and the drive 'disappears' from My Computer.
3) If I try to plug the hard drive in again it does not recognise it, usually I have to wait a bit and then plug it in again.

I have tried using Disk Management to format it but it is stuck to NTFS (is that a problem?) and it tells me it is healthy. Quick format works but normal format stops after a while and the drive disappears from My Computer again.

Any suggestions.

I bought an IOMEGA 500gb Hard Drive to used with an Advent T9100 Desktop and a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Laptop. According to the box it is easy to install.Although I get the familiar ping when it is pluged into a USB port it is otherwise more or less invisible with the result that it is unusable. The IOMEGA web-site is of a similar standard as no telephone number is visible. Having failed to locate a driver (as the model number on the box could nto be found on the web-site!) I made one attempt to submit a query and received a response that referred me to a form to complete that was not a form but an endless spiral of alleged contact methods.Entering the serial number indicated that it was a 60gb portable drive!I am returning it to store for a refund as ast best it can be described as totally and utterly useless and not fit for purpose.

Answer:IOMEGA 500gB Desktop Hard Drive

With XP (which I guess you have) or Vista you should not have to install drivers as it should be plug and play.Does it have it own power supply or does it draw from the USB port?Have you tried different USB ports and what shows up in Device Manager?

I'd like to get a 250GB SSD in my T450s when I order it, but Lenovo is charging $280 for the upgrade. So I'm thinking to order a T450s with a conventional 500GB spinning hard drive and buy a Crucial 256GB SSD elsewhere for $105. I would save $175 plus have a 500GB hard drive which I could erase and format and put into an external enclosure and use for other stuff. My question is -- I'm going to order the T450s with the Windows 7 Professional installation, so can I easily swap out the 500GB hard drive for the Crucial 256GB SSD (I'm ordering from elsewhere), and reinstall/recover Windows 7 Pro from recovery discs? I'm assuming that recovery discs are included or can be downloaded. Or, could I restore to the Crucial 256GB SSD from the recovery partition on the 500GB hard drive? How would I do this?

Answer:Order T450s with 500GB hard drive, upgrade to 250GB SSD

Download and install Macrium Reflect.  There's a free version that makes clones.  Clone the factory drive to the SSD, then swap it out.  You don't get recovery disks.   The recovery software, though, has the option of creating a recovery disk set from the recovery partition that is installed on the drive.  So, you could burn the disks and put them away as your recovery solution.  When you clone the factory drive, you have the option of selecting which partions to include on the cloned drive.  If you've burned the disks first, you can simply not select the recovery partition (which is typically lettered "Q") and just clone the system reserved and Windows partitions and save yourself the disk space on the SSD. Once you've got it set up to your satisfaction, and you have the disks, then format the factory drive to use for your other purposes.

I'm running Windows 7 Pro and the only option I see when I right click on the drives are NTFS or exFAT.

Hopefully it will be something easy because I'm not at all handy with the command prompt, unless someone walks me thru it.

iv had my Iomega hdd for about a year at most and its been fine, yesterday the usb cable was accidentally unplugged from the hdd while still connected to my laptop. Now when the hdd is plugged in, it makes beeping noises for a few seconds and the green light indicated power but it doesnt have any motor running sounds and it is not recognised by my laptop. I tried it on my family computer and its the same problem. I have tried restarting and no changes. I have attempted checking the disk management and as far as i can see it is not there either, and when i run F:\ it is unavailable.
any help is very much appreciated, as usual in these cases theres lots of important files i need off it!!
Thanks

I tried to run a system image to the "Backup" folder of my Iomega external hard drive three times, without success. The error message asked me to run chkdsk on both the source (my desktop) hard drive and the destination (Iomega) drive.

How can I run chkdsk on this external drive? I am willing to buy third-party software if necessary.

Thanks for your help.

P.S. I did manage to create a system image in a different folder of the external drive, but am curious about the one that failed. It contains no data and has never been used.

Answer:How to run chkdsk on Iomega networked external hard drive

if you right click on your iomega in "computer" select properties and select the tools tab, there is an option to check the disc for errors.

No window pops up as it used to when it was detected and its not present under the device manager. I've tried it on two different pc's and with 2 different usb cables and still no joy. The light on the side still comes on and its making the usual whirring noises.Has it simply broken and that's it??Any help much appreciatedThanks

I have a Iomega Home Network Hard Drive(1Tb) connected by ethernet to a BT HomeHub2. All computers on the home network can access the drive, however the problem is with DLNA/UPnP devices (Samsung TV, PS3, Netgear media adapter) connected either wired or wirelessly to the network. The HNHD employs the Twonky media server. in order for the devices to locate the server, I Often have to manually restart the HNHD and/or restart the BTHH2. Even if this works, the connnection usually drops after about 20 minutes. All devices, including router and network hard drive have static IP addressesand the firewall is configured to allow all communications.Has anyone got any ideas?

Hi,

I have had an Iomega external hard for a year now and it used to work perfectly, until suddenly, my computer (Mac) won't detect it anymore.

When I turn it on, the blue light comes on and I can hear the disk spinning inside, but there is no trace of any external device connected to my mac. I've connected through USB and Firewire with no success. Going to disk utility, only my internal hard drive appears.

It simply just stopped showing up on my computer. Does anybody have any advice to get my hard drive working again?

Answer:Iomega External Hard Drive stopped being detected

Try a different usb & firewire port physically on your mac & try a different cable. If no dice try it on a different mac or even on a PC, see if the other computer detects it. many times w/ external hard drives the enclosure fails but the drive is ok. worse case scenario the enclosure is bad & you can remove drive to put in another enclosure, or the whole thing could be hosed. try this, post back. thanks!

Answer:IOMEGA external hard drive has just stopped working

Have you tried the drive in another computer?
Do you have any other external drives or USB devices and do they work ok?
What OS are you running?

I would definitely recommend taking the drive to a shop or tech to have a look, if you aren't familiar with data recovery.

The problem could be a corrupt partition table, or other data related - not physical, problem. A reformat will "fix" your drive, but you will lose data. In situations like these, taking the drive to an experienced person will be the best option to avoid making matters "worse", and as a worse case scenario, data recovery software should get your most if not all of your data back.

Most likely, the integrity of the drive has been affected, but the drive itself still holds the data.

Does Iomega External Hard Drive model LDHD-UP work on Windows 10 computers? I remember the box saying Windows Vista as the highest, but I'm in need of a new laptop and I'd want to use it on there without erasing any of the data on the drive. Is it possible without buying a newer external hard drive? I'm interested in buying the HP Flyer Red laptop, is it going to be compatible? Or should I find a different laptop with Windows xp or Vista?

Answer:Does Iomega External Hard Drive LDHD-UP work on...

I use several old drives, some PATA, and they all work on win 10
of course the drive will only work at the slower USB 2 speeds

Hello, I have an iomega external hard drive that was dropped and now it will not show nor connect to my computer. I've tried two different systems but it doesn't show up. The light comes on and the system sounds like its working but it does not show as being connected. I have several movies and pictures on it but cannot recover.

Answer:My problem with Hard Drive iomega Model LDHD320

I'm afraid that dropping is frequently terminal for Hard Drives. The electronics will be good but the disks are often damaged. Repair is rarely an option.
There are Companies that will take the thing apart and reassemble it, but you'll very likely be looking at costs that will exceed £100.

Hi, connecting a new iomega ego portable hard drive to T61 XP pro causes it to bluescreen.  Get the message "...windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer".  The drive works on other PCs.  Does anyone have an idea what causes this and what a remedy could be.  Thanks in advance for your help.  Deb

Hello,

How does the Iomega eGo portable hard disk drive connect to the ThinkPad T61?

If you plug this portable hard disk drive in before you turn the ThinkPad on, does the problem still occur or does Microsoft Windows XP boot as normal?

Hello all, I am at my wits end and i wonder if anyone can help. I have a 500GB external iomega hard drive. I had only used it a handful of times to back up such things as holday snaps and my itunes music and video library. This was basically to free up my laptops memory.
I then plugged into the usb port on my PS3 console and found it was in FAT32 so dragged game saves across to do the same thing for my PS3. I then used it to drag music to my iphone and left it for a week, however now the PS3 wont recognise it and nor will my computer , and i have no idea why not.
There is power to the hard drive via external 12v power source and the blue light on it shows that power goes to it, but when plugged to any other console or laptop it does not show signs of being read.
Any one able to shed light on this and help with an answer?

This hard drive has worked fine with my computer for a while now. i recently reinstalled the os onto my machine, and proceeded to obtain all of the necessary drivers to get it back to normal again. however, all of my backed up files were on this external hard drive. when i plug it into the computer (via USB) it is recognized under disk drives in device manager. it still doesn't show up anywhere else, and i can't access it. i tried plugging it into a laptop, and it was the same story. Anyone got a fix? thanks

Hi Andy.

Sounds like the outlet you are plugged into is way overloaded. Can you get plugged into another better outlet or at least partly into another?

This hard drive originally was in my brother's computer. He had XP installed, went to install Windows 7 and after the first reboot, it would just hang on the bios screen.

I played with the jumper settings and such, nothin'. Put it in a few other computers, nothin'.

I was just curious, is it something that can be fixed or should I lay it on my desk to hold down some papers?

Hi tech guys,

I recently purchased an iomega home network hard drive NAS for storing and streaming movies etc.

My issue is this; my windows pcs recognise the drive, and assigns a different drive for each of the folders (eg movies, pictures etc) but when I copy from one folder to another it takes AGES, not exceeding 1.5mb per second. Is this a problem with the setup or are the write times dreadful on these things?

Thanks in advance for any help...
