Preferred Solution: standard windows fingerprint logon stopped working

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: standard windows fingerprint logon stopped working

Try device manager, personal identification devices, right click on the fingerprint reader and rollback driver.

I have a Toshiba Tecra S5 notebook and I've been using fingerprint logon since the beginning.

It stopped working when I chanaged my password.
Fingerprints are associated with the old password.

I have looked all over to find where to change that without success.

Anybody can point me in a right direction?

Thanx

Answer:Tecra S5 - Fingerprint logon stopped working when I chanaged password

Hi

I think you should remove the old fingerprints and should configure this again.
As far as I know you can use the new password to login.
Then access the Trusuite software settings, remove the old fingerprints and reconfigure it again using new scanned fingerprints.

Theoretically this should work.

I just installed Win7 on my T400. I installed the Fingerprint software, but the logon process is different now. When I used XP and I went to logon, I could swipe my finger on the fingerprint scanner, OR I could press Ctrl+Alt+Del and logon using my password. Now with Windows 7, I can still swipe my finger.  But now I can't press Ctrl+Alt+Del to get to the place to enter in my password.  Now I first have to press this "Other Credentials" button, then press my user account picture, then I can type my password. This is a real pain, especailly when the laptop is in the docking station, I don't have access to the finger print scanner because the screen is closed on the laptop, so I have to click the "Other Credentials" button then click my username button, then I can type in my password.  Where as before I could just press Ctrl+Alt+Del and type in my password. Is there anyway to get the fingerprint software to work the way it did with XP?  Or can I have it recognize that it is in a docking station, so it won't default to using a fingerprint to log in when the screen is shut? Any idea's? Thanks!

Hi,

I have a Toshiba A300 with Windows Vista on it which I bought at the end of the last year.
Everything was working fine and in order until 2 months ago when it out of the blue stopped prompting for Fingerprint logon.

I really don't know what caused it to cease working. Could any one help please?

Answer:Satellite A300 - Stopped prompting for Fingerprint logon

Try updating the Fingerprint software. I think its up to v2.5.29 (Authentec).

Also have a look in the Authentec Fingerprint settings, make sure Swipe on Windows login is enabled.

A few days ago my fingerprint reader suddenly stopped working. I looked around the forums and found a number of threads discussing this issue with workarounds about driver issues that were supposed to have been fixed by driver release 4.5.240.0. I dowloaded and have tried multiple times to uninstall and reinstall but nothing I do is working. I tried the older version as well to no avail. Help!

I can no longer use or enroll finger prints on my T430s laptop running Windows 8.1!ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software is 6.0.0.8102.Sensor: TouchChip Fingerprint Coprocessor (WBF advanced mode). Driver version: 1.6.2.352.  Symptom: when trying to enroll a fingerprint, I get the message: 'Use a longer stroke when scanning your fingerprint,' the sensor light turns from green to blinking orange (3 times), then back to green. Same happens when when trying to enroll from Windows PC Setting/ Sign-in Options/ Fingerprint (Add). What I tried: uninstalling ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software and Driver (to include selecting 'Delete the driver software for this device'), rebooting, using Lenovo System Update to re-install ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software, rebooting. Have also tried to manually install previous versions of the Fingerprint Software to no avail.  Note: I had this similar problem in the past, since upgrading from Windows 8 to 8.1, but the steps above usually resolved it.  Has anybody encountered this issue? Any ideas for a solution? Many thanks!

Answer:Fingerprint reader stopped working - T430s, Windows 8.1

Try rebooting into BIOS Setup (reboot and press F1 at the Lenovo/ThinkPad logo screen).  Then change to the Security menu, Fingerprint option, and choose the option about "Reset Fingerprint Data".  Then press F10 to save and exit and boot back into Windows.  Then try to enroll your finger again.

Hi
Have seen several posts but no solutions. After a windows 10 update a couple of months ago, the fingerprint scanner stopped working. It recognises me but then says "your credentials could not be confirmed".
Microsoft have sent endless messages blaming the driver, the scanner etc etc. Finally they say it is an issue with the update, but they have not solution at this time. Good old Microsoft and their helpful updates, which you cannot avoid.
Anyone have the same problem and how did you fix it??
Thanks

Hello. . .
I use the fingerprint reader to login to my Latitude E5550 every time.  However, I was unable to do so after the latest Windows 10 update (version 1607).

It did still show in the Windows Device Manager (i.e., no "Unknown Device" listed)
I went into the DDP Console to try to register a new fingerprint (for troubleshooting), but it wasn't reading the swipes
I attempted to update to the latest firmware/drivers, but that only caused unknown devices to show up in the Device Manager (ControlVault Firmware v3.3.15.0 and ControlVault Drivers v3.3.14.68)
Switched back to the older driver (v3.0.48.26) and all devices were once again recognized

Any suggestions for how to get around this?  It's not the end of the world, but I *really* like using the fingerprint reader (I paid extra for) to login.  If I can provide additional helpful information, please let me know.
Thanks!

Hi, with one of the last reboots fingerprint authentication before OS boots up is not working anymore. What I've changed I can't say, because I really seldom reboots my win7x64 at my T500 - its possible there where ThinkVantage * updates before. I wouldn't like to tell what I've already tried to don't fix your thinking direction. I uses passwords for entering BIOS, boot up the machine, every of the two sata devices (replaced optical drive) so I now will be asked to enter three passwords before windows starts. To log on windows the fingerprint reader workes fine also for using ThinkVantage password application. What information else do you need to give me a hint what to do/try. Regards  Ronny

Answer:fingerprint logon before OS is not working anymore

hey rseffner, uninstall the password and fingerprint software.see if it still ask you for three passwords.then go to our support site via http://support.lenovo.com , download the latest password and fingerprint software and install it.try again

Dear all, I've just received my P50 (20EQS00600, M1000M, i7-6700HQ, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD) about a week ago, and I quite like it. However, there is one thing that is driving me nuts: after I upgraded from Win 7 Pro 64 bit to Win 10 Pro, the fingerprint functionality stopped working. This issue seems to be related to the ones reported in these two threads for the P70 but at the same time appears sufficiently different to warrant a new post: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/P70-fingerprint-software-issue/m-p/22517...https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/Fingerprint-and-Sound-problems-P70/td-p/... So, here's what I did:1) I clean-installed Win 10 w/o retaining any data/settings from the previous Win 7 installation; I even reformatted the SSD.2) Upon initial installation I was asked by Windows Hello to enroll fingerprints which I did.3) Fingerprint worked on the first login but then magically vanished. Windows Hello is no longer showing up as a login option in the Win control panel.4) I discovered in Device Manager that the Synaptics WBDI reports the following problem: 'This device cannot start. (Code 10)'.5) Repeated uninstall and reinstall of the drivers are to no avail. I tried both having Win look up a driver and manual installation of the drivers I downloaded from the Lenovo page.6) When I uninstalled the drivers and then wiped the stored fingerprints in BIOS, I was again able to enroll fingerprints with Windows... Same problem on my W550s under essentially the same circumstances.  Unfortunately Lenovo is taking the tack that FP problems on new machines are the fault of the software not the hardware so they will not warranty the bad FP sensor. I had 3 FP sensors in my W520 over the 3 years of its warranty as they are far from foolproof devices.  But now that Win 10 has taken over the software side of the usage, Lenovo has apparently decided they will save some service calls by not warranting the FP sensor and blaming the problem on software which they don't warranty. Good luck.  If you do find a solution, I will be listening closely.

For some reason a windows keyboard shortcut I use a lot (right click Shift del, to permanently delete a file) has stopped working. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on how to trouble shoot this or get it working again?

It only works if I select and click delete from the menu while holding down the shift key, but of course, that's not much of a shortcut.

Thanks.

Answer:standard keyboard shortcuts stopped working

when that's issue you got??
i'm guess maybe you have change something or you hold shift twice times, so the stickykeys change.

I have an X1 carbon just purchased in January of 2016.  it came with Windows 10 and and all off the updates from Lenovo and Windows have been downloaded and installed.  the device manager says the fingerprint scanner driver is up to date. The fingerprint reader no longer works.  I receive messages such as " try using a longer stroke" or "move your finger to the right".  It worked in the beginning, then it would take several strokes before it registerd and now it does not work at all.  I have tried to register a new print with Windows and after about 20 trys it tells me the finger is already registered.  Then I tried a different finger and I just keep getting the messages refered to above.  How can I fix this?

Answer:fingerprint reader stopped working

Try clearing the fingerprint sensor from BIOS Setup:

1.  Reboot
2.  Press F1 to enter BIOS Setup
3.  Change to the Security page, and then select the Fingerprint item
4.  Choose the option to Reset Fingerprint Data, and then wait for it to finish
5.  Press F10 to save/exit and reboot to Windows 10
6.  Delete your fingerprints and try enrolling again, from the Settings -> Accounts -> Sign-in Options screen

Hello, Fingerprint reader on my T400 had stopped working. Window Logo windows shows the FPR is unavailable, Lenovo FPR software shows "can not communicate with the senor. Please confirm the sensor is ready". I have no clue what caused this problem, not sure if its related with bios updated I had done a few days before? I searched this forum and tried to find solution online, I tried:1) remove fingerprint software and uninstall authentec device driver from "device manager", reboot, re-install the lenovo fingerpint software 2) verified the fingerprint bios settings(internal reader etc) But still no luck with the FPR. I had FPR "pre-desktop" freture enabled in the bios so I could use FPR to login to bios. Now the bios FPR login window doesn't show up and I have to type in password to get into bios. Could it be a hardware failure? ( However it shows the authentec device is working properly in "device manager".)

The fingerprint reader on my W541 laptop stopped working.  It's been working for more than a year, and worked last week.  Now it's not working - not illuminated & doesn't read my fingerprint.  Going into 'Settings' (Windows 10), 'Accounts', & 'Sign-In Options', it says "Windows Hello is not available on this device".I believe 'Windows Hello' is the software that runs the fingerpront reader.Any ideas of what to look for to get this working again? I have not loaded any new software since last week (when the fingerprint reader was working). The last system update installed was:"Intel Corporation - Bluetooth - 11/14/2016 12:00:00 AM - 19.30.1646.853" - installed on 2/1/17 (4 days ago). The fingerprint reader worked OK after that update.

My fingerprint reader has stopped working again. It started working after the last Windows 10 update, but after some time it just stopped working. I got a message saying to "swipe my finger slowly". Other times it said to "swipe finger more to the left" But no matter how many times I tried the reader just did not recognized my fingerprint. Now the reader's light is not even visible when I swipe my finger. I have not updated Windows again since I'm waiting for the latest update of Windows Creator to be available for my laptop.  All the other available updates for my laptop were supposedly installed on 4-17-17 Any help? Hi all, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post but feel free to let me know if this needs to be re-directed. I've had an Elitebook 840 G2 for about 2 months with Windows 10 installed. I frequently used the fingerprint reader to log-in. However, as of yesterday, the fingerprint reader no longer seems to be working. I'm unable to log-in with the reader and when I try to set up a new fingerprint, the reader doesn't read it. I tried looking for the fingerprint reader driver but that's not listed for my model anywhere. Any guidance for what next steps are would be great. Thanks!

You can use the vista driver if you install it in compatibility mode. to do this right click the installer>properties>compatibility mode>check vista. then install

The only thing i can think of is uninstall then reinstall the driver for it and see if it works again. i have two ibm thinkpad laptops with that feature and i dont even use them because to me personally they are a nuisance and after one went haywire and locked me out of the computer i said i dont need this headache anymore.i had to take the hard drive out remove the driver for that and reinstall the hard drive. no more problems after that.

I tried doing a search but came up with nothing. The fingerprint scanner on my P50 just stopped working last week. No changes were made by me. In device manager there is an exclamation under Biometric devices/Synaptics WBDI. I tried disabling/reenabling and also tried uninstalling that and re-installing the Synaptics drivers from the support page but nothing is helping. I'm working on a project right now so don't have the time to do a Windows 10 re-install or contact support and inevitably ship this computer in for repair....so I thought I'd ask and see if anyone was experiencing this lately and if there was a simple fix (assuming the hardware just didn't fail suddenly). Thanks

Answer:B570 Fingerprint reader stopped working - need help

dimmaemmy,

I split your message off from the other thread that was more of a general complaint rather than focused on getting help for the finger print reader.  While it seems like this has happened to at least one other person, the community doesn't seem to understand what is going on just yet.

Can you tell us a bit more about the situation?

How long have you had the B570?  Which model is it? (There is a type number on the bottom that should be 7 characters long - this will help us get more information).

Does it ever work?  Is it just buggy, or was it working fine and then just quit?

What have you tried already?

Generically, we'd suggest:

1) Check BIOS to see if there are any settings for FP enable / disable
2) Check device manager - does the fingerprint reader show up - would be under biometric devices (I think)
3) Have you downloaded and re-installed the drivers?

OK - assuming you've done those things we have some choices on next steps.

You could try to back up your data and then use one key recovery to restore system to factory state - this will wipe everything.  If something has become corrupt software wise, this should fix it.  If not, you just wasted some time and will have to reinstall your stuff.

You could call service, they could try some things over the phone, possibly offer to remote into your system and try to fix it, or arrange for you to send in for service.

Have uninstalled and reinstalled several times and same result.

Device manager says device working ok.

Answer:Fingerprint scanner has stopped working after vV1.0.3.49 update

May I ask you what notebook model you have and what system you are using?

Probably you would need to delete the registered fingerprints and after the new reboot you should try to register the new fingerprints using the updated fingerprint software.

Did you try that?

It used to happen occassionally. Where I would attempt to use the fingerprint reader and nothing would happen. Now it just doesn't work at all.

Why do you think it's failed to connect to it and how can I get it to connect?

I would send the laptop to an Authorized Service Center for repair.

There is an ASP list on the Toshiba Website.

Today I started up my laptop, signed in using the fingerprint scanner, then checked for updates.  After updating (Lenovo Fingerprint Manger - 7/8 [32,63] (Version 4.5.266.0) and Lenovo Solution Center - 7 [64] (Version 2.4.003)) and rebooting the scanner stopped working. Upon running the device manager, uninstalling the device, rescanning, my laptop attempts to install the device driver and fails. How can I either uninstall the updates OR load the driver? This is not a hardware issue, it is something jacked up with either update.

Two weeks ago I bought a Yoga 720 and it has worked fine (including the fingerprint scanner). Three days ago it just stopped working. Now the Windows Hello says that my device doesn't support that feature. In the device manager it indicates that the Windows can't load the driver (Code 31?). I have been trying to reload the drivers for the fingerprint scanner from Lenovo without success. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I recently updated Windows 10 Pro x64 on my Envy 14 to the new Creator Update from Microsoft and now Windows does not recognize the fingerprint reader. HP Simple Pass recognizes it when I manually open the app but will not recognize any fingerprint. I updated the driver manually through device manager to no avail and HP Update Assistant says there are no updates for my computer. Help please.

I woke up this morning, turned on the laptop, and completely out of the blue the fingerprint detection stopped working with the message "Sorry, something went wrong" (It had been working for months).  So I removed fingerprint detection in Windows setup so I could reset it, however it will not let me set up a new fingerprint.   Here is what happens when I try and reset it: 1) Click Setup.2) Click Get Started.3) Message comes up "Touch the fingerprint screen" (NOTE: The green LED illuminates).4) Place the finger on the screen and the following message immediately appears:     Sorry, something went wrong.  Close Windows Hello, and then try going through the setup again.5) So rebooted to make sure that was not the problem and tried again and it still does not work. What else I tried: 1) I uninstalled the Biometrics Driver and reinstalled it from the Lenovo site.....Same problem. My laptop = T470OS = Win 10 Pro 64 bit (Latest Updates from Microsoft)All Drivers = (Latest Updates from Lenovo)Biometric Device = Synaptics WBD(SGX enabled)    The device is working properly    Driver = 5.2.3515.26 (05-23-2017)

When rebooting my machine this morning, at the login screen there was a message about a service not starting.  Since then my system immediately goes to the standard windows 7 login and the fingerprint reader is not enabled. I checked the Fingerprint software settings, and the checkbox to "Use fingerprint scan instead of password when logging into Windows" is set. The windows service "Secondary Login" was turned off.  I tried turning that on with no effect. Does anyone know how to get the fingerprint scanner working again?

Answer:Fingerprint Reader stopped working for login

quick question for you. Did you by any chance update the fingerprint software via windows update? I remember doing that once, and it totally fubarred my system. the only solution was to uninstall the drivers completely and reinstall the drivers from lenovo

My fingerprint device sensor stopped working after 3-week use. My laptop is Thinkpad T430s I correctly downloaded and re-installed fingerprint drivers but had no effect. My Thinkvantage software reported that "Cannot find fingerprint device sensor"In Bios, when I accessed option of fingerprint, it reported that "There are no fingerprint readers attached on this computer"However, windows 8 still recognized the fingerprint via the presence of Touchip Fingerprint Coprocessor (WBF advanced mode) when I accessed device manager in windows 8.Now, I cannot start my laptop by using fingerptint function. What can I do? Does it relate to hardware or software.

I've seen this one other time and it was caused by faulty hardware - the fingerprint sensor needed to be replaced.  I recommend calling the support phone number in your country and requesting warranty service.

For the last few days I have not been able to use the fingerprint login with my T500. The reader shows and is waiting for several minutes. but the "swipe your finger" invitation does not show and instead the manual logon screen is displayed. It still works with secure websites etc. I hope this can be fixed.

Try uninstalling all of the fingerprint manager software, then use this:https://driverstoreexplorer.codeplex.com/Select everything by Authentec, and choose to Delete Package (check Force Delete) if you have to. Reboot, then try again. Also make sure Windows Update isn't installing some generic driver before you have a chance to install the proper one.

I'm still prompted for my fingerprint when logging into web sites. But the reader doesn't appear to be on. The light doesn't flash and my fingerprint isn't read. Device Manager lists the driver as: 1/7/20124.3.301.0 My SimplePass is: 6.0.100.276

Hi,I am suspecting a hardware failure, but wanted to check the forums first anyway.I have an X230 Tablet running Windows 8.1 Update. Fingerprint software 6.0. Was working fine (i.e. swipe to power on and log on to Windows and the Lenovo Password Mgr) until this morning. No more green light on the sensor, no function. Windows says that the fingerprint sensor is not available. It was still showing up in Device Manager, I uninstalled it as part of some troubleshooting and it's not being detected anymore now.Any ideas other than hardware? Thanks,SA.

Answer:X230 Tablet fingerprint reader stopped working

It sounds like hardware failure but try one more thing:

Reboot into BIOS setup (by pressing F1 at the ThinkPad logo screen).
Go to the security -> fingerprint menu.
There's an option about clearing the fingerprint sensor storage (or something like that).
What happens?

Hi, I wonder if someone can help me ?
First, please excuse my poor English, I'm Norwegian ( ! )
and allow me to tell you that I am just "normally" technical ...
-so please, please "speak" so I can understand.

My fingerprint sensor stopped working today, this has happen before,
restarting the computer has previously "fixed" the problem, but not today ... !

I have dowloaded and installed new drivers & software ( TrueSuite Access Manager ) ( from Toshiba support ) -- still not working ...
I have checked the Device manager ( Biometric Devices )
It says that the device is working properly. It says that the drivers are all up to date.
But it still does not work.

I've been on the phone with Toshiba support for a long time today, but not even support could help me ...
they had never heard of a similar problem on a Qosmio X300 before ( ? )
They suspcted that I had send it in for service ... and I would like to avvoid this, if I can ...
Cause that means that my computer will be gone for at least 14 days ...

I have also read all threads about fingerprint problems in this forum, and tried everything ... but nothing helps !

When I'm promted to scan my finger, the scanner seems to be "dead" ... ?
Can anyone please help me to solve this problem ?

Hoping for help !
Thanks so much for taking the time ...

Answer:Qosmio X300 - Fingerprint sensor stopped working

Hello

This is really strange but I can?t say at the moment what causes this issue.

Have you tried to update the BIOS? You can find it on the Toshiba website:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

If it doesn?t work you should try to reinstall Windows by using the Toshiba recovery disk. Maybe it?s a software issue or something else. You have already updated the drivers and software so I think this would be the next step.

In worst case you should sent it in for service or repair. I think there is no other solution but I have good experience with the Toshiba service.
I did send it in my notebook in and I get it back after 10 days. Very fast and the problem was solved. :)

I know many people have had this issue but I can't find the solution. One of the threads from 2014 has a "solved" reply but all it says is "this appears to have solved my problem." Left wondering what solved the problem... I've had this computer for a week. The fingerprint reader worked fine until yesterday. Not sure if it was a coincidence, but I connected an older DVD write drive to the USB port to try and install an old software. After that, the fingerprint reader will no longer light up or work. The driver seems to be working fine under Device Manager, but when I open the Fingerprint Reader app I get a message saying the reader is not connected. Is this a problem that has remained forever unresolved and unaddressed by Lenovo or is there a solution that someone can point me to? Any help will be much appreciated.

Answer:T450s brand new and fingerprint reader stopped working

It might be something got corrupted on the fingerprint sensor, or it might be the hardware went bad.
To rule out corruption:
1.  reboot and press F1 to enter BIOS setup
2.  change to the Security menu, and then pick the Fingerprint item
3.  choose the option to "Reset Fingerprint Data"
4.  BIOS setup will tell you the result - what does it say?
5.  if step #4 is OK, then reboot into Windows and try to enroll your fingerprint again

I have a Portege R500 laptop. The fingerprint utility has stopped working. First (perhaps after an update of the True Suite Acess Manager was installed a few months ago) it failed to work on login but did work for other passwords.

Now it doesn't work at all. If I try to register fingerprints it tells me that it has failed to locate the sensor. I have reinstalled the AES1610 driver and the TrueSuite access manager, but it makes no difference.

In Device Manager it says that the device is working. I have looked at various threads on this without seeing anything that works.

Answer:Portege R500 - fingerprint utility has stopped working

Hmm? Maybe you should try to clean the registry after the fingerprint software has been uninstalled.

In your case I would follow this:
- uninstall the fingerprint software and delete the fingerprint device from the device manager.
- reboot the notebook
- clean the registry using the free tool called CCleaner
- reboot once again and install the software and driver
- reboot once again and test the fingerprint functionality

A few weeks ago the fingerprint scanner on my girlfriend's U460 stopped working. She was deep into a major project at the time so I wasn't able to really look into it until now. To the best of my knowledge no new software was installed around that time and the only updates would have come through Windows Update. The software does not recognize that the fingerprint scanner is connected. I uninstalled the software, restarted, and installed the latest version (5.9.3.6245) for Windows 7 64-bit from the lenovo download page. The problem seems to be that either Windows isn't detecting the hardware or that it's been given a generic driver and I can't find it. There's nothing in the device manager that appears to be the fingerprint reader. Normally with these symptoms I'd assume the hardware has gone bad, but looking for solutions there seem to be a lot of issues with Lenovo fingerprint readers. I just haven't seen anything about what I'm seeing specifically. Any ideas?

I didn't get the message but otherwise the same symptoms.  Read other posts about lenovo laptops, and they suggest booting up and going into your BIOS setup, go to Security, and reset the fingerprint reader.  This worked for me, and unlike that case, i didn't have to re-read my fingerprints.

I've now tried installing the Windows 10 Pro Creator's Update twice, and both times my fingerprint reader stopped working for Windows Hello. I just get "Your credentials could not be verified". I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver (and I'm on the latest), removing and re-registering my fingerprint, and I've also tried the trick I saw suggested elsewhere of switching to a local account, then back to a Microsoft account. That works temporarily but as soon as I switch back to my MS account, it breaks again. I've rooted around the BIOS but everything seems fine. I have the same fingerprint set on startup and that still works fine; Windows just doesn't recognize it, either when it's passed on from the BIOS or when I try to do it again manually. Has anyone had this problem and managed to fix it *without* reverting permanently to a local account? I don't see why that should be necessary and it definitely isn't supposed to be. I have reverted back to the Anniversary Update both times because of this issue.

Well my problem starts off like this I have a Qosmio X500-12Z I bought it the first few months were fine then suddenly my fingerprint utility stops working when I try to mannually turn it on it says "cannot connect to sensor" I dont know what to do I didnt tamper with any drivers or anything. I tried reinstalling it but still the same thing, TEMPRO also stopped working about at the same time. When I try to turn on TEMPRO Manually it says executable stopped working

What to do I have no idea will someone help me?

Answer:Qosmio X500-12Z - Fingerprint utility and TEMPRO stopped working

Hello

Well, generally speaking if you don?t need the fingerprint sensor you can ignore this error message. Also TEMPRO is not so important because it only informs you about new driver updates and if everything is ok with your notebook you don?t need newer drivers or tools.

But if both applications don?t run I would recommend reinstalling them. Uninstall both tools and restart your computer. Then run ?CCleaner? that is a freeware registry cleaner to delete old registry keys. Restart again and then download & install newest version of both tools.

Or should I say they suddenly stopped working under windows. I am using windows xp sp2 and have been using this laptop on the same installation of Windows for about 6 months now.. no problems at all.. till now. This morning when i turned on my laptop, the first thing i noticed that the fingerprint reader was not working.. It was not giving me any response at all.. so i logged in with my password.. Then while using the internet the wifi got disconnected from the router and after that it refused to work no matter what I do.. It gets stuck on "acquiring network adress" but when i gave a static ip, like 192.168.1.232 it gets connected but i dont get any data from the router.. it shows offline mode.. also the wifi gets disabled and then enabled by itself multiple times.. I had to turn it off..  -The router is fine.. my acer aspir 5315 and my nokia connects with the router via wi fi without any problems... - Also I tried using the wifi under ubuntu linux and it works there.. meaning the net works wirelessly without any problems in ubuntu but it refuses to connect in windows xp.. I could not try the fingerprint reader in ubuntu since it is not supported by linux yet. I tried removing the drivers and reinstalling the software+drivers.. but that did not help... any ideas as to what may have caused this? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.. I dont want to do a re-install of windows.. Help

Ok...I have a Lenovo ThinkPad W500 notebook running Windows 7 64bit. It has an integrated fingerprint reader which uses AuthenTec TrueSuite. MY PROBLEM IS NOT WITH THE FINGERPRINT READER HARDWARE, as it has the latest drivers and is detected by Windows. I am even able to register my fingerprint via Biometrics in the Control Panel. However, when I go to log into WIndows on a fresh startup, the option for fingerprint logon DOES NOT DISPLAY and there is no "Other Credentials" button that would allow me to navigate to the fingerprint logon. Here's the strange thing- if I do a simple logoff (without shutting down) then the fingerprint option appears on the logon screen and I can log in using my fingerprint. It is only when I power on the computer and first log in to Windows that I encounter this problem. Please help, as this used to not be a problem but suddenly started occurring, and I like using my fingerprint to log in.

Thanks,
Adam

Logging into Windows with fingerprint and Windows 10 native fingerprint integration did work well after a fresh Windows 10 installation. However, yesterday I got the Windows 10 Threshold 2 update aka as 1511 update. After this update I cannot logon with my fingerprint anymore. Deleting the fingerprints and re-learning the fingerprints with Windows Hello also does not help. I tried different fingers and did the recognition very careful. But still when locking the windows screen and trying to log on with fingerprint scanner does fail. Windows just says that it's the wrong fingerprint and after 3 attempts I need to enter PIN for logon. How can I re-enable fingerprint logon? Driver: 4.5.317.0 ( Synaptics FP sensors ), Signed by Microsoft Windows Hardware Compatibility

Hi

It?s strange that a driver stops working suddenly.
However, possibly there is are some corrupted system or driver files? who knows... ?:|
If the software and driver reinstallation don?t help try to roll back the OS to the early time point.

In worst case you will have to use the Toshiba recovery CD to restore the machine to the factory settings? but hopefully the Vista system restore tool will help.

I have a new W510 but I cannot get the fingerprint reader working for Windows logon.  I have the Lenovo fingerprint software installed.  It can enroll my fingerprint with ease, which also shows that the reader works.  I have turned on the option "use fingerprint scan instead of password when logging into windows".  When I restart Windows, I see a fingerprint logon option, but it still defaults to CTRL+ALT+DELETE.  When I pick the fingerprint option and scan my fingerprint, the lght blinks twice and nothing happens.  I know from my old W510 that I should be seeing a Lenovo Fingerprint icon on the logon screen, but I just cannot get that to display.  What have I missed? The virtual agent was no help - it gives me a setting that doesn't exist, tells me to reboot, tells me that the first time I log in I will need both fingerprint and password, but afterwards it only needs fingerprint.  I do not have any of this user experience... Thanks,Shan

Answer:Windows logon with Fingerprint reader on W520

If you're joined to a domain, you have a change a Windows setting to allow fingerprint logon to the domain.  Your domain admin decides whether this policy is enabled or not by default. From the start menu, type "Change biometric settings".  You should see an option for "Allow users to log on to a domain using their fingerprints".

Answer:Tecra R850-1EP: Cannot use Fingerprint on logon Windows 8.1

Hi

To be honest, I don?t know exactly what?s going wrong with the fingerprint procedure but I guess this can be related to wrong update to Win 8.1
Probably you did not follow exactly the update procedure which was recommended by Toshiba.

Here you can find the Update to Windows 8.1 Toshiba EU website:
http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/generic/windows8_1-message/

and here you can find the [Step-by-Step Instructions to update to Windows 8.1 |http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/generic/windows8_1-upgrade-stepbystep/]

You have to follow exactly these steps in order to get the notebook working properly.

Therefore I recommend you to set the notebook back to factory settings and to repeat the whole update process once again following the +Step-by-Step Instructions+

But since some days the logon in the user account fails. The password changes for example from "12345" in "345c35-123b56-...." (FYI this are just examples, not real passwords). What I did to solve the problem:I deleted the user and add the user new, reboot the machine, logon works as desired. But the very next day the same failure appears again, password changed and I cannot login by fingerprint and had to enter the password by keyboard. When I try to configure the fingerprint again by edit "user" I had to enter my password. My password and also my fingerprint works correct. When I click the button "show password" the dialogbox shows a different password of numbers and lower case characters, separated by "-" like "123c45-678b90-..."Does anybody knows a solution for this problem?TIA

Answer:SL500 Windows-logon failed by using ThinkVantage Fingerprint Software

Hi, I'm a little bit disapointed because there was no feedback to my problem. I found solution by myself. I thought that my problem issues from the Fingerprint Software. But then I had a look at the Client Security Software and found some misconfiguration. Maybe this comes from updates of the software, because I cannot remember that I touched this software since I've got my SL500 new and configured everything. Solution:Client Security Solution > Policy Manager > Windows Logon was inactivated. I configured and activate Standardpolicy.

I want to apologize for the long posting, but I am not looking for someone to give me the standard big hammer solutions for my issue. I have done a lot of Google research about this issue and have conducted most of the repairs, fixes, diagnostic tests recommended for similar issues. I have included a brief description of all the diagnostic tests that I have run and am looking for some technical expertise that will help me identify the source of the problem and possible solutions.

Issue:
After logging into a user account a dialog box is displayed stating that Explorer.exe has stopped working. Additional details show that the Faulty Module is SHLWAPI.dll. Other than the error dialog box, the screen is black except for the mouse pointer; no desktop and no menu bar. I can use CTL+ALT+DEL to get to the Task Manager, and subsequently start some new tasks such as a command line window or the control panel from Task Manager.

This issue appeared the day after updating Apple iTunes software (from version 9.3.something, to the current 10.1.2). I believe it was the first reboot the day after updating iTunes. Immediately after updating iTunes an error dialog box appeared stating that the Bonjour service had stopped working. Bonjour is Apple?s automatic network discovery service that is integrated with iTunes (i.e., a required installation for iTunes to work properly). My suspicion is that something in Bonjour is conflicting with Window Explorer and causing the error... Read more

HI,I have a T500 (LENOVO 2081CTO ThinkPad T500) running W7 32 bit.  Been working fine since September 10.  Today when simply trying to logon the fingerprint sensor has stopped working.  Laptop had not even been moved, simply resting on desk and then switched on from powered off.A few times since have received message that "USB device is being installed"  with finally "USB Device could not be installed.  There is a problem with your device."  Device Manager showed a problem with "USB Composite device"Powered off/on gave same symptom.Downloaded & installed latest fingerprint software 7wf162ww.exe.  Installed OK.  USB device appeared to then automatically pick up and reinstall correctly.  BUT still unable to use fingerprint to logon or for with Thinkvantage Client Security.Using Thinkvantage Lenovo Fingerprint Software gives error "Cannot communicate with sensor.  Please confirm the sensor is ready."   I've also noticed the keyboard around the fingerprint sensor is very warm, almost hot.  As if it is being constantly turned on? Fingerprint sensor is AuthenTec Inc. AES2810Help?  What hardware tests are there and how do I get this working again? Thanks,Les

Reset the fingerprint reader in BIOS.  Logged on and re-enrolled fingerprints (using Thinkvantage Client Security Fingerprint software).  Tried to use fingerprint reader for browser site yet said there were no fingerprints enrolled. Shutdowdn/restart, fingerprints completed enrolment and then all ok.  Problem solved. Now left wondering why the fingerprint reader stopped working...

Hi, Out of curiosity I activated the fingerprint option for logging into my windows 7 user account. It works great and I'd really love to keep it if it wasn't for this uber-ugly image that replaces my carefully chosen own user account image. It actually looks like someone is picking his **bleep** nose  Long question short: Is it possible to change this image?

For some reason I cant log on to the administrator account on my home laptop. It also says it a workgroup when I never set it up as a workgroup. I have always been the owner of this laptop and now I cant even log on to my own computer. I know I didnt change the password on my main account. The password hint is the hint that I put on there to remind me and its still the wrong password. If im on my computer as a standard user and Im denied any downloaded capabilities I cant even download security updates or do system restore. HELP

Answer:Cant logon as Administrator only Standard

By default most systems will set to a workgroup when first setup/installed - and M$ assigna a defautl name for it too (can't remember what it is - probably "workgroup"?)System Restore can often/usually be done without a password too? Boot up and press the correct key combination to invoke the process - via a menu that will "pop up" on the screen...Another way to "discover" and chnage/reset the password is to use one of several utilities that allow you to do this. They're out there as downloads; and also bundled in with Knoppix (linux variant on a CD/DVD).knoppix.com has a free ISO to download; save to a hard-drive; burn to a DVD; boot with that and use the utilities included...And while booted that way - and do this first - safeguard your files/data etc. Copy them to optical-media and/or an external hard-drive and verify those copies are truly accessible on at least one other system. Then set about password recovery etc...

Hey,
I was wondering if anyone could help me?  I have been having a lot of issues with my computer and using the internet. I keep getting messages such as ‘windows explorer has stopped working ‘and ‘Host process for windows services stopped working’. The crappy hard drive on my new T-500 crashed after 3 days.  When i finally got a new hard drive from Lenovo after about 5 weeks (and lots of arguing), I can longer do anything on this piece of crap.  When I try to log into Windows, I get a message "You are limited to use fingerprint only to log into Windows."  I can log in using my Fingerprint (even though I haven't set it up since installing the new drive), but can't do anything that requires my username.   I can't do anything that requires my Windows username - the correct password isn't being accepting on this POS.  How do I remove my username and fingerprint from the stupid fingerprint system? If nothing else, how do I disable the fingerprint crap? .. Hannover Fist

Answer:Fingerprint Only Logon

There is no reason to freak out because you don't understand how the fingerprint reader works and where the fingerprints are stored I'm sure it can be fixed pretty easy. You could go into the fingerprint application and choose to delete all fingerprints or you can choose to delete the fingerprints from BIOS. The fingerprints are not stored on the HDD so when you replaced the HDD the registered fingerprint will still be there. There is also a setting in the fingerprint application where you can choose that none administrators are required to logon using the fingerprint reader. If you reinstalled Windows on the new HDD the fingerprints are linked to another account that no longer exist and that might be the reason why you have some problems. When you reinstall Windows and recreate the account using the same login ID it will still be considered as another account. You also have the option in the fingerprint application to link the already registered fingerprints with a new account you created during the reinstall if i remember correctly. So you could either delete all fingerprints from BIOS or from the application or link the already registered fingerprints with the new account. You can also disable the fingerprint reader from BIOS of course if you don't want to use it at all. You said that you can no longer do anything with the computer to i assume you have a lot of other issues as well. I believe everything is a bit more than the fingerprint issue? What other is... Read more

Question: Fingerprint logon?

Hi,

Does anyone know how to enable fingerprint logon in Windows 8?
I'm using a Toshiba Portege R830 and I've installed the fingerprint utility + enrolled my fingerprints, but during the logon process, it doesn't prompt me for my fingerprint. I couldn't find a place to enable fingerprint logon in control panel.

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help!

I'm completely new at this lap top thing, and I hate the fingerprint logon function.

I want to get rid of it from my welcome screen so I looked and went into the Fingerprint Reader Suit, clicked on Settings, then System Settings, got a pop up window, clicked on the Logon tab to try and switch from Fingerprint Logon to Standard Windows Log on but that screen is greyed out and it doesn't allow me to switch off the Fingerprint Logon!!!! How do I change it and delete the icon from my welcome screen!!?

I have a Dell Inspiron one 2305 all in one PC. Came with Win 7, I updated to Windows 10 about a year ago. First few month every thing was great! every thing worked fine. Then Cortana stopped working after a while I can no t search for anything. If you try to type a question it only allow you to type in Two letter and it quits on you. I tried the search trouble shooter but it could not Identify the Problem.
Second thing, MY Optical disk reader stopped after a update Oct 30 2016, I tried the trouble shooter same thing, I tried the Dell fix it, it said update the driver, went to do that that it said i have the lastest drivers, and it found no problem with my disk r/w. I am scared to try and reload win 10 online, because i have no disk reader to load win 7 if there a problem, reloading win 10, I will be totally shut out if a problem accords. Does any one have a solution to any of these problems? Help Please

Answer:Windows 10 Optical disk drive stopped and Cortana stopped working

Open Device Manager > DVD/CD-ROM drives > Right Click > Update drivers.
Else you may Uninstall the driver, use Scan for hardware changes and install fresh latest drivers.
If you familiar with BIOS settings, enter BIOS and select the Load Optial Defaults setting to restore defaults.
Perhaps something here will help you: Optical Disk Drive is not recognized in Microsoft Windows or other applications | Dell US

Hi, I have a problem with my fingerprint-reader. It works properly when I start my R 400 after normal shut dowm. But after closing and reopening the lid, I always get the message "please wait". It then takes up to 5 minutes until I get the message "fingerprintreader not available". I downloaded and installed the newest driver-version at the lenovo-homepage, but I still have the same problem. Can I try something else?

I have for some time used a fingerprint reader to log on to a HP 4730s .
My print is no longer recognized, probably wear and tear.
Where can I register a new print, after logging on with password?

Answer:How do I refresh the fingerprint I use for logon

In the software you can register another finger. It may also be the reader is dirty.

I've just installed the lastest set of MS patches on my 3000 N200. Since then, I've been unable to logon to it with the fingerprint reader. The fingerprint prompt is displayed but nothing at all happens when I swipe. Once logged on, I can launch the fingerprint software (Lenovo version 1.1.0.21) and it functions normally, so it can't be the reader hardware. Anyone experience similar problems? Any suggestions as to solutions? Thanks. Robin.

Hi everybody,

this is my first post here so please don't bitch if I didn't hit the right place for my question

I am having a laptop here (DELL Studio 1735) on which Windows 7 runs in dual boot mode with the (originally) installed Vista, both Home Premium versions and working with the integrated Authentec AES2810 fingerprint reader with no problem.

My question is now, how can I get W7 to the same kind of logon screen, showing both this laptop's only user's password and fingerprint logon icon next to each other, like Vista does it?

In W7 those are different logon screens between which I can only "switch users", as if W7 considers the password logon with <Username> a different account than the fingerprint logon which it calls <Fingerprint>.

When I look into the W7 User Accounts though, there is just one user account, which is an Administrator type, just like in Vista. And in both OS, the fingerprints were registered under the only users account.

How can I tweak W7 like Vista here? Somewhere else I read the tip to do this through secpol.msc, but that exists in the Professional and Ultimate versions only, not HP.

Thanks for your time guys!

Hello,I want to ask if I do something wrong, or how to solve this problem.I have W520, with SSD in the main bay and HDD in ultrabay.I have set supervisor, power-on, hdd1 and hdd2 passwords. Also windows password.I have enrolled 4 fingerprints.I set in the fingerprint software that passwords are filled via one fingerprint. When I powered-on the computer, I enrolled a finger, lenovo said "accpeted" and I had to put all power-on, hdd1 and hdd2 passwords manually. Since then it worked next time as is should automatically. SInce I have 4 fingerprints, I had to do this process for each finger, so 4 times, but I get it working. But I am unable to do this on my external lenovo reader when docked. It allways says "accpeted" during boot, and then I have to write them manually. This is EXTREMELY annoying, because when docked, USB keyboard doesn't work either, and I have to go to my machine, open it, input 3 long passwords, and then close the lid fast. Can you please help me, what to do? Where and how are fingerprints stored? I have also eSata drive and I want to set hdd password, if I will have go through every fingerprint again...thank you.P.S.: I had similar problem with my previous T60. On external fingerprint everything worked, but on internal sometimes it did not filled these passwords and i had to pull out and in the battery. Sadly it is not working on W520.

A week or so ago I got a virus.  I ran an antivirus program, cc cleaner, ad aware, and hijack this.  Everything seems ok now except that about 10 minutes into turning on the computer a little box always pops up saying Fingerprint Logon To apply changes in logon configuration you must reboot the computer. If I hit no it goes away until I reboot and then shows again.  If I click yes, it reboots but then brings the window up again 10 minutes after rebooting. I believe it was doing this before running the antivirus, cleaner, etc. Ive never used the fingerprint logon.  Looking at its utilities shows that it is disabled.  Thanks for your help!--Scott

Recently I've updated several drivers via Lenovo System Update on my ThinkPad E550 running Windows 7 Pro 64 incl. the ones for the fingerprint (Lenovo Fingerprint Manager V4.5.327.0). Unfortunatelly the fingerprint logon after a boot up or restart does not work anymore (and there is no fingerpring choice), I can only type a password. When I log off or just lock the laptop, the fingerprint logon works like a charm (fingerprint choice is enabled). When I uninstalled the current version of the Fingerprint Manager and tried older versions, there was no change. Fingerprint logon is enabled in the Biometric devices menu in the Control Panel. No system restore point available. Could you help me?

I recently installed Adobe Premiere Elements and there was a conflict with the biometrics device on my HP laptop. Anyhow, I decided to just do away with the thing all together. I never use it anyhow. The company that makes the drivers quit supporting the device a long time ago so, there aren't any updates. I'd rather type in passwords anyhow.

So, I disabled the driver and all related software I could find. Problem is, I am still left with the fingerprint log on icon when I boot the machine. Anybody know how to get rid of it?

Fingerprint reader is by Validity Sensors Inc.
Software was VeriSoft or Digital Persona
All on my HP Pavilion dv8

As well as disabling the driver and un-installing any reference to VeriSoft and Digital Persona, I tried editing Local Group Policy to not allow the use of biometrics. Nothing I have tried so far has worked.

Maybe edit/remove a registry key or some other such thing?
