HDD not found in Windows Installation but found in BIOS

Question: HDD not found in Windows Installation but found in BIOS

So it's a long story.
I hadn't had Microsoft Net Framework on, so I turned it on.
Then my PC randomly crashed.
Tried to reboot but it got stuck in the crash then reboot circle.
I tried my hardest to fix it but I couldn't find anything to fix it so I decided to just,
reinstall windows.
I made a bootable usb windows install which worked last time I had to reinstall windows.
This time I load the usb up and it goes to the language settings, then it has 2 modes.
Custom or upgrade.
Upgrade has the whole "you've loaded windows with the installation disk blahblah"
Which doesn't work cause I've tried to fix that to.
So I'm forced to do custom, which only show Disk 0 (Which is my Usb)
I choose browse so i can see what disks I have and I have 3.
C: (Usb)
X: (Don't know what this one is)
and The cd drive.
The "X" drive only has 30 free mbs of space, even though my HDD has 500 Gigs.
TLR Hard Drive doesn't show up.
Please, someone help as this is very annoying.

Preferred Solution: HDD not found in Windows Installation but found in BIOS

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

After installing Windows 8 PRO I cannot play a dvd. The trouble seeker says: The hardware can not start due to damaged or incomplete config info in the register (code 19).

When searching for a new driver I'm told that I have the latest one. I read on Microsoft support that a similar problem occured on installing Vista, but the solution should not be applied on this installation.

What else is to do about this problem?

Hello guys,
I've just assembled my PC and everything works perfectly. I've plugged my Win8.1 burned USB Stick and started the installation process. When I had to choose a partition where to install the OS, the system cannot find my HDD and says that there are no drivers. I have a ASUS B85 Plus MotherBoard and I did NOT install its drivers, is that the problem? I cannot use CDs as I didn't install a CD-Reader. Thanks in advance.

Hello all, I recently built a desktop so that I could play SWTOR, all the parts were salvaged from other computers, but they are all working and compatible, to the best of my knowledge, except for the hard drive, which was broken, so I went out and bought a Western Digital 1 TB hard drive and a new copy of Windows 7 Home Edition.

When I got home I plugged the hard drive, a SATA drive, in and popped the install disk in, only right after I got to the "Install Now" button and clicked it did I get this message;

No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK

Followed by;

A required CD/DVD drive device is missing. if you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.
Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step.

I know that all the required parts are in the computer, yet I can't seem to figure out how to solve this, any help at all would be appreciated.

Answer:No Device Drivers were found Windows 7 installation

Have a look in the bios & check the settings in there. Sounds like it is trying to load a raid array.

I discovered this by accident. I reformatted and installed a fresh windows 7 ultimate to my s10-3t. Got all the drivers to work except for the webcam. I downloaded all three available windows 7 drivers and it gives me an error message each time. Pressing FN+ESC key did nothing. I was plugged in the outlet for power. Then I disconnected it and ran from the battery then did the FN+ESC key again. SUCCESS!!!! The webcam enable icon showed up! Thats weird I said. I checked skype and yahoo messenger apps and sure enough it works! Not sure if this will work with other S Series as I sold my s10-2 for the s10-3t. I hope this helps everybody with this webcam problem.

I completely formatted my computer to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit from Windows 7 Home Edition x64, I put in the correct product key and then when I attempted to connect to the internet I couldn't because I don't have the correct drivers.
Back when I used to use Windows XP I put a little CD in and then installed the drivers from Device Manager but now with Windows 7, I put the CD in and I can't install the drivers. They show up with a tiny symbol with a yellow exclamation mark on it (it was like this too back when I used XP, but I had no problems then,). Does anyone know what I can do?
The uninstalled drivers are these:
Base System Device
Base System Device
Ethernet Controller
Network Controller
SM Bus Controller

Also, if this helps my laptop is an Acer Laptop.

Windows 7 Home Premium
AMD A-Series Quad-Core Processor A6-3400M - 4MB cache, 1.4GHz

500GB hard drive
integrated Super-Multi drive
5-in-1 card reader
AMD Radeon HD 6520G Graphics
802.11b/g/n WLAN
Gigabit LAN

I'm stumped here, any help would be greatly appreciated. When I right click and click "Update Drivers" it says there are no updates.

Answer:Windows 7 Ultimate x64 new installation with no devices found?

Have you tried using Device Manager to manually install the drivers? If you right click on the device in Device Manager and then click on "update drivers" you should see two options. The first option will search automatically for the driver, but the second option will allow you to browse your computer for the driver software. If you have the driver cd inserted you can then "Do a search for the driver in this location" and navigate to your cd drive. If the right driver is located on the cd, Windows should then "find" and install it for you.

Hello all,
Here's something i've not run into before, this in on a newer computer, purhcased in the
last 6 months, and I came back to my computer, seemed to be asleep even though I have
sleep and hibernation disabled, and I had to force my computer off, after no response from
several efforts.
Then Windows 8.1 won't start, and the automated repairs don't succeed.
When windows was trying to start, it states something about the drive being locked, and
so I looked into those errors, but they didn't seem to apply to me.
Then I booted to the command prompt, get to the C: Drive, and I look at the directory and
it seems to be missing a number of folder such as Windows, and Program Files, as well as
the users directory is missing my primary user name.
Then I look into the found.000 folder, where CHKDSK keeps it's recovered and orphaned
data and I Found over 50GB of data!
I've never seen this before, i've had crashed drives, garbled data, corrupt data, etc..etc..
but I've never found a significant amount of data, in this folder, and clearly this is where
my windows, user profile, program files, and personal data has gone.
The folder has yesterday's date and time stamp around the time I encountered this problem.
What's the best approach to work with this, besides wipe and restore?
I'm more curious than anything and clearly if I can somehow recover this, return it to
working order, vs. wipe and restore, it'd be really appreci... Read more

Hello! I am currently trying to install windows 7 onto my laptop. I had recently used a program called DBAN to completely wipe my computer, and that involved windows 7. I'm using a USB flashdrive with the windows 7 .ISO file on it. I am having a problem with my 32 bit Windows 7 deployment where everything seems to go smoothly until it gets close to the end and I get Dirty Environment Found.
I am using MDT 2013 (V6.3.8298.1000).  Background: I know almost nothing about Windows Deployment but nevertheless have been thrust into this assuming I would figure it out.
At this point I am completely lost and unfortunately don?t even know enough to be able to ask intelligent questions.
The image is to be deployed to some laptops which are used in the field basically as test equipment.
They are never connected to a LAN.  This deployment is meant as a recovery and updating mechanism. I don?t know why it was done this way, but it is what it is.
NOTE: I do NOT know for sure what tools were used to create the original installed image on these laptops.
I believe it was MDT (unknown version) since the original install DVD I was given has a LiteTouchPE_x86 WIM on it.
Here is what has transpired:
Updated/customized a laptop (patched, disk cleanup, etc.).
Created a capture task sequence.
Captured the updated, customized laptop OS, storing the WIM via the LAN in our office.
Imported the WIM file into MDT
Created a simple client deployment task sequence using the MDT wizard.
There are no custom steps, no application installs, no updates, everything is vanilla.
Created advanced media configuration because I need an actual DVD to install from.
Created a selection profi... Read more

I recently recieved some used computer parts from a friend. These parts are Window7 compatable as he was running the RC on them before he sent them to me. When I got them, I added my Power supply, Case, IDE Hard Drives and CD/DVD Burners.

When I had everything wired up and in the case, I was able to get it to power up, but when Windows 7 Ultimate got to the point where it is supposed to install on a Hard Drive, it didn't recognize either of the two drives in the tower.

Current Configuration:

1- 320 Gig WD Caviar Blue IDE (Master)
1- 160 Gig WD Caviar Blue IDE (Slave)
1- HP CD/DVD RW Burner
1- Sony CD/DVD R Burner

1- MSI PT890-Neo V motherboard
2- 1 Gig Crucial RAM
1- Graphics card (uncertain as to info as I am not where I can check it)
1- PCI USB card
1- PCI Audio Card (uncertain as to info as I am not where I can check it)
1- MSI Wireless adapter

I originally had Windows XP on the 160 Gig Hard Drive, but since I have changed out Mother Board, Graphics Card, RAM, etc. that build of Windows XP will not function.

I do not have a wired Keyboard so I cannot reinstall from the Windows XP disk, and with my USB Keyboard I can install the Windows 7 Disk, but if Windows 7 does not recognize my INTERNAL IDE drives, I cannot install that!

What am I to do? Can anyone help me trouble shoot Windows 7 refusing to recognize my Hard Drives when booting from Install CD.

My Windows 7 CD is Windows 7 Ultimate, Full Version.

If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now. Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step" I then click "Ok" A another white box shows up that says "No device drivers were found. make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click ok" So that's the issue, I've been looking on to other forums, And they've said to put the USB stick into other USB2.0 ports. And i've done that, Still the issue is there. So, Any help would be wonderful, Thanks for taking the time to read/reply to this. Thank you.

Gentlemen, thanks for your help.

Long story short:

1) One random day, computer would not boot and I reformatted and re-installed Windows 7
2) My primary SATA hard drive with Windows 7 is working fine
3) My secondary SATA hard drive (my pictures!) is detected in BIOS but not in Disk Management. It used to work fine.
4) I've tried refreshing Disk Management, but no "unnamed drive" or anything shows up
5) I've tried moving the missing hard drive's SATA connection on the motherboard
6) I've tried downloading the latest motherboard RAID drivers and BIOS version from my motherboard's manufacturer

Now I'm thinking about buying an external USB enclosure for the SATA hard drive to get my pictures. I'd be out $20 and no longer have the drive directly connected to my motherboard, which I believe is a much faster connection.

Would you guys have any advice?

Thanks a lot and happy new year!

Hello, So I recently reformatted by U410 and installed windows 8.1.  When I initially purchased the laptop, it had 8 and I downgraded to 7 for productivity reasons.  In doing so, I also replaced the microSATA SSD to a 128gb so I had an OS drive and a documents drive for storage of my research data.  I recently decided i wanted to try out 8.1 for several reasons, part of them being that the BIOS was designed to run properly w/ 8.   After having done that, i've had 0 problems really.  Runs smooth, fast, clean.  Easy reinstall of my programs and most hardware.  When I got back to my office this morning I wanted to reinstall my bluetooth keyboard for my workstation setup, only to find out there was no option to add bluetooth peripherals.  I figured "OK, I forgot to install the BT drivers" so I went and grabbed those and the wireless drivers since I recall fighting with this in windows 7 before. Installed drivers (or so I thought) and did a reboot, nothing.  Check the device manager and find out it's not even present in the device manager.  Not even any "unknown device"  I have one in there part googling the HW ID suggests its something associated with the Energy Management software (despite having that installed. Checked the BIOS and it's enabled there no problem,  Scanned for hardware changes, nothing.  Ran a command prompt ipconfig and there isn't even an entry for the bluetooth module.  I... I try to use my T430 minidisplayport to connect with external display. But it is so unstable that the connection between laptop and display can lost anytime. That is so annoying. I use Nvidia control panel in Windows to force use NVS5400M instead of HD4000, but it seems doesn't change anything. I heard if I select the discrete graphic card in BIOS, then it may fix the display connection lost problem. Then I go to the BIOS and  set the "discrete", and disable "OS Detection for NVIDIA OPtimus" in BIOS Config Display (This is necessary otherwise the laptop will change it back to Optimus automatically.). But after I log into Windows, then no graphic card can be found, Why? How should I fix this problem? The external display issue in T430 is so annoying. The VGA suffers very serious noise while the minidisplay is so unstable. Even worse, there is no any lenovo staff stand out to help !!!!!!!!!!!!!!  If anyone has experience, please share that. Thank so much.

Sorry to hear this has been a bit of a hassle for you.
Can we go over the basics?  Apologies if you have already been over all this and have elected to simply start a new thread, but we should cover this to help others who may have suggestions...
1) What version of Windows are you running?
2) Have you updated to the latest BIOS and video drivers?   I would recommend running system update if you haven't already, to get these.
3) What display model are you connecting to via DP?  Have you tried a different DP cable, or to connect to other displays?
Edit - it seems you are already getting help in this thread ->
Please try to keep the conversation in one place rather than starting multiple related topics.  Thanks!

Answer:BIOS problem - 0167: No processor BIOS update found

This is a very odd outcome to a BIOs update. Did you upgrade the processor at anytime? (Your machine should contain a Core 2 Duo Processor E6550)Did you update the BIOs through the operating system? If so I would download the "Flash BIOS update (CD ISO image version) " (The 3rd file down in the list of available BIOs updates for your machine) and re-flash your BIOs from the CD. Flashing the BIOs from within Windows has a history of erratic behavior.

I had Windows Defender installed under Win-7.  I did the upgrade to Windows-10 (straightforward).
However, when booting from cold, and after logging in, a message box has always appeared saying:
Windows Defender
This app has been turned off and isn't monitoring your computer.
If you're using another app to check for malicious or unwanted software, use Security and Maintenance to check that app's status.
I'm not using any other antivirus - just whatever came with Windows-10.  I originally thought that this would be some wrinkle that would get fixed by an update, but it's still there.
I've looked for ways to uninstall Windows Defender, but can't find a way to do it.  Typing "Defender" into the Search bar brings up an option saying "Windows Defender Desktop App", which when clicked also brings up the message box
mentioned above.
Is there any way to get rid of this message box?

This could be as simple as a smudged DVD so try to clean it carefully (I use a drop of dish liquid or liquid hand soap and rinse with lots of water, then dry off with a lint free cloth in radial motions from the center outwards)

Or try to copy the install file to your desktop and try to run it from there (make sure you'll install it via "Run as Admin"

If you can open the install file with 7-zip and it still won't install, chances are the program misses certain software components that have been uninstalled/damaged earlier.
In that case you could try a SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Hi folks, I was running windows 7 on my MSI ER710 laptop and decided to do a re-install to freshen the laptop up, but things have gone wrong. During the initial install it showed me my HDD, (which seemed to be partitioned into about 6 drives), so I formatted the drives and continued with the installation which seemed to go ago, but when the laptop rebooted win7 failed to load and so I went back to redo the installation again, but now it states there are no drives found. The HDD is detected in the BIOS and is detected in GParted but the windows installation can't find it. I have read a sh*t load of forums trying to get this sorted with no luck so far. The majority of responses seem to be that I would need the chipset driver. The only 'chipset' driver I can find on the MSI site is "ATI RS690T Chipset/VGA driver". I'm not even sure if this is the right thing, but either way it seems this is set up using an .exe file, which I cannot open as I cannot boot into windows. Another option I have read is to change the settings in BIOS to IDE, but I can't seem to find this option anywhere within the BIOS. I am totally stumped and sure as hell don't want to pay for a new laptop just fot the sake of a driver!
I am running an MSI ER710 laptop which has a WD1200 HDD. I'm not sure what the motherboard manufacturer is as I can't boot into windows to try Everest etc to find out.

Any help woul be really appreciated. Cheers

Hi ! i've been trying to install windows 8 , but it says "No drvies Found " .
i tried to find out some solution from net , and tried the method of using cmd ( diskpart , listdisk )
but only one drive of cdrom is shown using cmd ,
Please tell me how to solve it , other than cmd , as it is showing one drive that is of cd-rom

i'm using hp probook 4540s . . .

Answer:No drives found , during installation

Reset your bios to defaults and see if your hard drive is recognized in the BIOS. Also, what drove you to use diskpart and did you use it before or after the failed installation attempt?

I found a problem.

Windows Security Center shows that I have McAfee Firewall running. Also it shows that McAfee VirusScan is running. I installed McAfee but it didn't work and I uninstall it.

Task Manager shows no sign of this firewall and there's no program to uninstall in COntrol Panel, I mean in Control Panel there's no McAfee product install.

What shall I do?

Answer:I found a firewall installation

Hello newtonx,

Welcome to the Vista Forums.

You may have to run a tool from McAfee to get rid of it completely.

Please keep us posted.

I have IE 8.0 and Netscape 8.1.3 on Windows XP (media ed). Both browsers have the same problem. Google searches' links are redirected. The first link clicked works, but subsequent ones are redirected. There is no other unusual activity. The redirection does not occur with a proxy server using google.

I have tried Norton, Trend Micro PC-cillin, Malware Bytes, and Spybot S&D. None of these detect any malware and none solve the problem. The DNS is automatically obtained.

I have looked through the forum, and there appears to be a number of people with similar problems, but the solutions offerred (if not too specific) have not worked.

Thank you.

TL;DR Ubuntu finds and uses a PCIe Wifi card just fine, but Windows can't find it. (Apparently needs USB header connection on MB?)

Long Version:
I use a PCIe card with the Intel Dual Band 8260AC chipset. The interesting part is that it has a USB 2.0 header on it that you're supposed to plug into a header on the MB. I had it installed this way previously and it was working fine til last night. I upgrade my CPU/MB/RAM, but the new MB is one USB 2.0 header short. The old MB had 3, all filled, but the new MB has only 2 USB 2.0 headers and 1 USB 3.0 header, so one device is left out. I decided to leave the wifi card plugged into the PCIe slot, but not plugged into a MB header and fire it up and make sure everything else was working.

No surprise, but I had no wifi. Figured maybe a new driver might solve the issue as it seems weird to need both a PCIe slot and a USB connection. So I dug out a USB wifi dongle I had and proceeded to update/install every possible driver, BIOS, etc. for the new MB and the wifi card. Still nothing.

Just out of curiosity I rebooted into Ubuntu (latest 17.10), and voila! Wifi worked! I removed the USB dongle just to make sure, but it definitely works just fine in Ubuntu, but Windows 10 cannot find the device. This is without the USB connection BTW. I've installed and reinstalled the driver, but no dice.

Any thoughts on getting Windows to recognize the card without the USB header connected? And any thoughts on why Ubuntu can find and use the device jus... Read more

Answer:Intel Dual-Band 8260AC PCIe not found in Win10, found in Ubuntu

Huh. So it seems Windows doesn't recognize it even with the USB header plugged in. This is annoying.

Hi and thanks for a very helpful forum. I read through all the malware removal instructions and have completed the step-by-step cleaning process (which seems to have worked) and now would like to confirm that my system is actually clean. Please see attached logs. Note: ComboFix did run but then froze during the "preparing log report" phase, so the attached ComboFix log is just the txt I found in the folder, not the full zip log. Also, RootRepeal failed to run at all (in normal or safe mode).

More infor about infection:

AVG found Crypt.AQLW but couldn't fully clean it
CPU & HD constantly at 100%, firewall had been disabled, internet traffic going mad & link redirection - immediately disconnected from internet
SUPERAntiSpyware found and cleaned Trojan.Agent/Gen-Loader
MalwareBytes Anti-Malware found and cleaned Exploit.Drop.CFG
ComboFix found and cleaned Rootkit.ZeroAccess ... but failed to generate full report. CPU dropped to normal after this!
RootRepeal failed to run
MGTools ran normally

Note: Before finding this forum, I also found advice to run Kaspersky TDSSKiller which I did, and it did find something, but didn't fix the issue. Log for that attached as well.

Answer:AVG found Crypt.AQLW and subsequent scans found Rootkit.ZeroAccess

More logs ...

Note: It says in the ComboFix.txt that AVG was still enabled (and it also gave me that warning message) but I had already used the recommended AVG removal tool and AVG was no longer installed or running at the time.

I've now updated my OS and all my software, have switched to MS Security Essentials and re-enabled firewall etc.

I ran into this problem a few hours ago and have been pulling my hear out. Autorepairs diagnose the problem as a problem with the partition table, but is unable to automatically fix it Ive gone into diskpart and confirmed that the partition was active. I reset the MBR thought bootrec,
bootsect.exe /nt60 all /force

Success on all three windows partitions manually creating the BCD initially works. I can create the store, but when i run bcdedit /import i get an error saying the store does not exist. I am desperately trying to avoid an os reinstall. I havent made any changes in the past few weeks so I dont know what could have caused this. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer:bootmgr not found. bootrec /rebuildbcd and /fixboot give 'Element not found" error

I just solved my problem in another way.. non of the above solutions helped me.. kept saying in rebuildbcd, that the total ammount of windows installations found was: 0 I moved the sata cable to another port,.. that fixed the problem for me.. might help others Anders

Okay hi this is my first post I registered to hopefully receive help for this issue:

I bought a new ssd drive to make my pc faster but when I try to install Windows 7 via a usb I get this error saying the "requested partition could not be found" now I have installed linux mint which worked fine but I can't get along with it so now I tried installing Windows 7 again but got the same error again.

I have tried 2 different usb still not working though

Also to confirm it never boots the installation, this error happens before the installation has a chance..

All help would be great

Answer:windows 7 usb installation error "requested partition not found"

Do you have UEFI BIOS? If so the stick must be formatted specially and booted only as a EFI Device.

i ran trojan remover on safe mode before i ran into this tech forum.

it found 2 malware infections. a trojan and a hacking system file.
they both were deleted by the trojan remover program. when i ran it again. nothing was found....but my main concern right now is that i was reading the log that i was given and it said something about some files being locked or in use. and im not sure if the computer is really finally out of harms way.

i do have a boot disc if i have to reformat. but i do run a store AND reformatting is such a huge hassle. i will do it if ihave to. but i would like to know if im still in harms way.

i ran the programs you guys asked and i will be attaching them here.
ALSO i will attach the trojan remover log..just so you see what im talking abt.

the computer started acting up, an the main that it was doing, was everytime i would turn the computer back on, the receipt printer was uninstalled. EVERYTIME.

thanks in advance.

Hi all, I'm trying to do a vanilla installation of my Lenovo R61e 7650 and am experiencing something I've never seen before - I boot up XP, Press F6 and load the correct SATA drivers, Windows continues and successfully sees the hard drive, I tell it to format the hard drive but when it comes to asking for the SATA floppy disk again just before copying files (as normal), the setup suddenley ceases to see the floppy drive - game over.I decided to abandon the vanilla install and boot from the recovery partition but I don't get the To Start the Product Recovery program, press F11 message as instructed here: Does anyone have any ideas how to solve this?  I wanted to update the bios to see if that helped but have discovered you can't do it from a floppy ( CD only and I don't have a burner apart from on my laptop ) or directly from Windows on the laptop ( and the laptop is blank because I've formatted the drive during setup and I can't run the recovery partition). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Bob

Background: clone the entire contents of the HDD to a SSD with the aim to replace the HDD, including the OS.

After having cloned a HDD with Windows 7 laptop to a SDD successfully, and replaced the HDD with the SDD, resulted in a smooth boot exactly the the same procedure failed with a 2007 laptop Vista 32bit.

Procedure with support of the guidelines of the SSD Vendor (Sandisk):
1. Initialize SSD
2. Clone the entire HDD to the SSD
3. Replace the HDD with the SSD
4. Start the laptop.
5a. Result with a Win 7 laptop: OK
5b. Result with a Vista 32bit laptop: failed

Failure with Vista (I'm not that technical):

The BIOS indicates: no IDE device found.
When starting up, the message 'Operation System not found' appears

A major difference between the Win 7 and Vista laptop is the transfer mode of the (former) HDD and the new SSD: Win 7 had a SATA 300 installed, while the Vista has a SATA 150. The SSD is SATA 600.

What I did?
1) I created a ISO Vista 32bit file to get the laptop into the repair mode. This repair mode does not recognize a drive c: (checking out with the installed DOS).
So, i'm turning in circles. There is no way to get the internal SSD recognized.

2) When connecting the new SSD drive with USB to check the SSD status with the Computer Management/Disk Management tool, this is displayed:
The internal HDD (containing the system) shows: Healty (Boot, Page File, Crash Dump, Primary Partition). The USB connected SSD shows: Healty (Active, Primary Partition). Further, the ... Read more

I am trying to re install my Windows 7, to do that I am using an 64bit, OEM Home Premium version from Microsoft website. After all files are loaded and I am starting installation I am getting this message: "No new devices could be found. Make sure the driver files are correct and located on the driver installation media."

My first thoughts was that installer is missing SATA drivers to my Motherboard so I downloaded them and tried to add from my memory stick during installation but it didn't help, I also tried to switch to IDE mode but it didn't work also. Latter I created bootable pendrive with Windows installation but got same error.

Don't know how to deal with that problem, please help.
Computer that I am working on is Asus G73SW-a1 laptop, please let me know if I need to post any additional information's.

Answer:Windows 7 OEM installation problem- "no new devices could be found..."

The SATA drivers are all in the WIn7 installer as long as you downloaded it intact and wrote to stick or burned to DVD correctly as given in Steps 1/2 from Clean Reinstall - OEM Windows 7. Read over all the other steps too to make sure you are prepared to get a perfect reinstall.

First enter BIOS setup to see if there is an EFI boot disk in BIOS Boot order. If so remove it and wipe the HD with Diskpart Clean Command first to change to MBR disk.

If not check for newer BIOS update, if none reset BIOS to defaults: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS.\

Unplug all other HD's then wipe the HD as given above.

I currently have a laptop, HP DV6326us, running Vista. Days ago, I decided to to install XP on a shrinked partition from local C drive and, meanwhile, still maintain this Vista system so that I have both XP and Vista installed in my laptop. However, things didn't go as well as thought. When I loaded the XP installation disk at start up, it said NO HARD DRIVE was found for installation. So I loaded it again with a USB drive inserted, it only found my USB drive this time. I am sure my hard drive is still good and can be used for reinstalltion because I tried to format my laptop before using HP's internal recovery function. So does anyone have any clue what caused this problem? I was thinking if it happened due to my pre-installed Vista system. I wasn't sure about this because I know we can downgrade vista to XP.

Thanks for the help!

I've tried multiple times and followed multiple tutorials on how to install windows 8 to dual boot with 7. I get past the select Custom Install Screen but cant proceed from there.

The next screen is where you select which drive to install the OS on, however the installation is not detecting any drives (no drives on list at all). I have Win7 on my C drive and also a empty partition but the installer isnt registering either of them.

anybody have any ideas?

When I try to reinstall XP pro I receive message "The file aqq12s0m.sys could not be found. press any key to continue." and when I press it, comp restarts.

Any clue about that file?

Answer:The file aqq12s0m.sys could not be found during Win XP installation

is this the original recovery CD or a genuine Windows XP installation disk??

Following reasons for that problem:

- Disc is damaged or scratched or warped or simply not working
- CD/DVD drive has some problem
- Some piece of hardware does not work properly
- Memory could be faulty

Try to exclude these points and you will get the answer on that file.

Usually, such problem appears (I mean with a non-working file) when the CD is scratched or the drive does not work like it should..

Have acquired a Western Digital hdd,320gb SATA,which gives the following message when trying to install XP,"Setup did not find any hard disk drives on your computer.Setup cannot continue."
I ran Data lifeguard diagnostics and on the Quick test got"Completed without errors,Error status code 0000"
Then used the "Write zeros" to clean the drive and "No errors found, error status code 0000"
Finally ran the Extended Test and again"No errors found, code 0000"
So tried XP again and no go,same not found once more.
Then installed a Linux,FreeBSD,works normally.
Clean drive using Dban and installed Ubuntu 12 and it works just fine.
Installed the drive into another machine running XP and the drive shows in BIOS and Device Manager, which says the drive is operating normally{in Properties} BUT the drive does not show in Computer.
Because Linux use a different boot loader,GRUB,this seems to me,where the problem might be,but I really don't know.I have been in touch with WD to ask about the Master Boot Record,no luck so far.
Any more head scratching and I'll become a permanent redhead.
I've run out of ideas.

In Disk Management, does it have a drive letter? If not, create a primary partition on the drive and assign a drive letter to it.

In your original computer, does the drive show in the BIOS? How old is the drive? In the BIOS of your original computer, are you using AHCI or SATA controller for this disk?

Hi, after I first installed Windows 7 to my computer, I was left with only the ability to connect to the internet via Ethernet cable. I've been looking online for wireless adapters or other means to fix this problem, but to no avail. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Answer:No wireless adapter found after installation

This page at the Dell support site shows Windows 7 64 bit support for your Dell Studio 1737. Installing the NIC drivers for Windows 7 should get you going again. Drivers & Downloads

It doesn't show support for Win 7 32 bit only 64 bit but the Dell advisor says that the Vista drivers should also work.

You might also try Windows Update center to see if they have some updates for you. You can get there using the wired connection.

Going into Device Manager may show a yellow ! at the Network Adaptor, you can try updating from there also by right clicking and choosing update driver.

I recently purchased some round cables to replace the ribbon ones I have to my hard drive and optical drives. After installation and turning on my system I received the prompt "Operating System not found". I replaced the ribbons cables and everything worked fine. Why is my hard drive not recognizing the cables?

These are the ones I purchased:
ATA 100/133/ IDE Round Cables

If there is any other information needed let me know and I will provide it.

Answer:Round Cables Installation/OS Not Found

Did you try connecting the drives like this?

I have a slightly annoying problem.

I got myself a new 120GB SSD for the jump to Windows 10.
I install the OS without problems from a DVD disk, boot up and begin to install stuff as steam, spotify and GeForce experience.

I remove the installation disk from my DVD reader and reboot.
After the BIOS screen I get a message that claims there are no bootable media.

With the installation disk in the DVD reader everything works fine, I get an option to boot the installation even though the DVD is nr 2 in boot order after my sole storage unit.

I have tried to use all those bootrec commands to restore, repair or create a new bootmgr and so on. No installations of Windows can be found either. Been doing this for 6 hours now. I have reinstalled windows 10, 8 and 7. All with the same problem.

I plugged in one of my older 60GB SSDs and successfully installed Windows 10 on it. No sign of any boot problems. Booted without the installation disc. Same SATA connection on the motherboard. No changes in boot order.
So my thoughts about this right now, is it possible my new SSD have a defect from the beginning? Something in the hardware/hardware controller?

And yes I have searched around this forum, other forums and Google for anything like this problem. Everyone seems to get it working with bootrec commands. I don't...

Answer:New SSD, new installation, no bootable media found.

One thing to remember, you must do an upgrade and activation before you do a clean install, otherwise you will not be able to activate.

How did you do the install? The only way this will work for you is to clone the old hard drive to the SSD then boot the SSD and run setup.exe from the DVD.

I'm trying to set up my phone to connect via MTP. It shows up simply as "MTP" in Device Manager with a yellow exclamation point. I right-click and hit Update Driver Software and tell it to automatically update, but I get the following error screen. The same occurs when I manually navigate to the Microsoft generic MTP USB device driver. Anyone have any ideas as to how I can actually get the driver to install?

Answer:Driver installation: File not found

Many phone manufacturers provide software that contains the drivers to work correctly with Windows. No such software? What phone?

I'm not sure when my computer was infected, but on Wednesday morning I logged into my email and saw that my eBay selling account had been hacked, and the hacker(s) made 55 transactions through my PayPal account (draining my existing PayPal funds, then my bank account, then my credit card...the latter two were attached to my PayPal account and those transactions were still pending). I made all the necessary phone calls, then changed my eBay and PayPal emails using a friend's computer (which had just been reformatted the day before and hadn't been online before I used it that day). I neglected to change the password for the email I had associated with my eBay account, and the next day, my eBay account had been hacked again, but eBay had unlinked my PayPal account due to the suspicious activity the day before so no transactions went through. I then changed all passwords again, including my email password. That seemed to do the trick. I got home today and got back on my computer, then ran a scan on avast, which found Win32-Spyware (I clicked "Move to Chest"). I also ran Malwarebytes and it found Codec-C.exe (Affiliate.Downloader), I quarantined this. And I'm not sure what else may be lurking on my computer, so I would be very grateful for any help.

I am trying to reinstall the original harddisk that my Toshiba Portege M400 146 came with, but the recovery program will not accept that there is a working harddisk in the computer.

I know the harddisk is working as i have used in other computers for experimenting with Windows 7 etc, and in the Toshiba computer windows 7 (still on the harddisk) will also start to boot, but them crash.

The error message is that there is no working harddisk and the following text can be found in 2 command windows both with the title:

I have also tried with other harddisks and the same problem persists.

Have anybody seen the same problem and found a solution?

Berst regards

Answer:Portege M400 - No HDD found during Recovery "no TMBR found"

Possibly the partitions which appears on the HDD are corrupt.
I could not install the OS on my notebook because the partitions were muddled up? I don?t know why but I couldn?t format the HDD using the recovery disk.

Finally I took the Windows XP disk and formatted the whole HDD and removed all partitions from the HDD. Then I have installed the Windows XP using Microsoft disk.
After that I took the recovery disk and installed the OS again using the Toshiba disk.
Then it was possible to reinstall the OS.

Note; The M400 seems to supports the RAID and therefore you will need to install the RAID driver firstly!

On a quick scan of Malwarebytes, it found item called trojan.downloader.

It was on C:\windows\system32\java.exe

I clicked to remove, rebooted as directed, reran scan and all clear.

Then I ran Superantisypware:

It found a malware trace in registry items:

This was also quarantined and then I restarted as directed and rescanned and all was clear.

I then ran an anti virus and that was clear.

I have windowsvista.

I am concerned that there still might be a problem on the system after seeing these two that were found.

Looking forward to your help.

Work through these steps for Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Boot

Report back what happens as you go as there may be more steps.

Where did you get Win7 installer? Did you burn it yourself?

Do you have an EFI BIOS? Enter BIOS setup to see if HD is detected, and if there is an EFI Boot disk in BIOS Boot order listings.

I just got this laptop off of a Facebook yard-sale page for my area. They were selling it because it would not boot. I bought it home and my current Studio 1747 laptop told me i needed to format the Hard drive from the Acer before i could use it. I formatted the drive.

Now, I can install Windows 7 again, i thought. So i put in the boot disk, got to the "Choose where to install" page. But "No Drivers Were Found"

I clicked browse and all that came up was "Removable Disk (C", "CD Drive (D" and "Boot (X"

(C told me to insert a drive into Removable Disk (C.
(X Said: "No signed drivers found."

So im in a stump.

Acer Aspire 5733 series

I also get the same problem, different hard drive, in a Lenovo G575.

Answer:"No Drivers were found.." Windows 7 installation

Boot from the DVD as if you were going to install, then do this:

1. On the first Language screen, press SHIFT+F10 - a command prompt window will open
2. Type diskpart and hit enter
3. Type list disk and hit enter

Copy exactly what is now shown on the screen, and type if back here in your next reply.

New system build with Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3(v1.1), AMD FX8350 4.0Ghz/8core, Vertex4SSD, Gigabyte GeForce GTX660 2GB video, 500wPSU, Win7 Home Premium/64.

System ran/loaded/updated fine for about 6 hours then crashed during game play.

BIOS/Windows unable to recognize SSD, unable to re-install Windows - get as far as "No drives were found. Click Load Driver to provide a mass storage driver for installation"

that is followed by:
"To install the device driver needed to access your hard drive, insert the installation media containing the driver files, and then click OK"

I have burned CD\DVD's and USB flash drive files for a couple of days now looking for the "device driver", but I still hang up at the same screen.

I have switched SATA/power cables, reseated memory (crucial Ballistic 2x(2x4)DDR3 PC3-1(16GB total)/video card, installed a WD Caviar Black 1T HDD (not recognized), (re)Flashed the BIOS to F9 from the Gigabyte sight (system had the most current version/flash was successful - no problems with that) luck!!

Tried a system recovery disc from another Win7 system - no drive/driver....

Answer:SSD/HDD not found in BIOS

I'd run an appropriate diagnostic on the drive, as a first step.

Assuming all good with that...I'd check for a firmware update or BIOS update.

I just bought a new HP Pavilion 17-g101nu and tried to install Win7 via USB Drive. While installing there were no drives to sellect as where the OS to be installed. What can I do? I found people on the internet use some kind of a CD that has the Notebook's drivers burned and then install them while on the proccess of the Windows' installation. Will that also work? Also I haven't found any settings in BIOS about SATA formats, and so on. Thank's for reading.   (I have no idea if this is the right place to ask, but just bought this laptop with only just DOS.)

Hi I tried to install Vista on my machine but there is some things wrong. I just insert the CD of Vista and restart my machine.

Vista started to install and I reached the point where Vista should find drivers to choose, but its telling me that no driver was found.

I took it to the Agency in Syria and they were telling me this machine (Qosmio G30-153) is shipped with vista only.
If you have to upgraded from XP this applies to Qosmio only.

I think there is some other problem but they could not solve it because I told them when I go to the System Setup, I had found the drivers but the names are different.
Driver (C) named Raid 0 but the driver D names Jbod and I think they should be same name.

If they are different name but they don not know what I am talking about.
Do u know how to change the name of the drivers and why they are different.

I hope u can help me and I would like u to reply on my e-mail if u don't mind My is ( [email protected] )

if you don't have a minimum of experience with the computers, will be not so
easy for you, to install Windows Vista in the very complex qosmio.

I can recommend you to search in this forum and to follow the messages of
'Franciscojr' that has taught to everybody, with his posts, to install Vista.

I am reinstalling windows 7 on my laptop. Installing windows is not a new thing for me, as i have done this for a number of times on different laptops. But now, I encountered an error that I never have encountered before.

I made a bootable flash drive and copied all the contents of the iso to it (I have used the same iso since the first time i learned installing windows, so iso should not be the problem). Now, I restarted my laptop and booted it from the flash drive. It then showed the window with the button "install now". I clicked it and the error appeared saying:

"No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers, and then click OK"
"Load Driver
A required CD/DVD drive device is missing. if you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.
Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step."

I believe i have done nothing wrong in my installation process, from making the bootable flash drive to booting from it.

My laptop:
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_gdr.120830-0334)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.
System Model: K43SA
BIOS: BIOS Date: 09/26/11 14:41:34 Ver: 04.06.03
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2670QM CPU @ 2.20GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.2GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM

Answer:Installation error from USB: No device drivers were found

The error almost always means its a bad installer. Use the ISO for your licensed version from Step 1 written to stick using tool in step 2, then closely follow the other steps to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which are same for retail.

So, as @karlsnooks and @golden had said, I downloaded an ISO file from Official Windows 7 SP1 ISO from Digital River ? My Digital Life.
And using a Windows 7 USB/DVD Tool, I burned it into a USB stick.
Now, when I boot from it, I get to the Window home screen, and when I proceed, I get this message:

"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now. Note: If the Windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step." <Browse> <OK> <Cancel>

When I browse and point it to the Boot folder, this message comes:

No device drivers were found. Make sure that the installation media contains the correct drivers and then click OK.

I'm currently running Windows 7 Ultimate x64. What I'm planning to do is FORMAT my whole PC and do a custom install of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 again.

Answer:Installation From USB Fails - No Device Drivers Found.

Where did you get Ultimate? How do you plan to activate it?

The error is always a problem with the installer as obviously the USB stick needs no DVD driver. Try writing the confirmed ISO to stick using Universal USB Installer to compare what happens.

I tried to go to my bios and change some things i read from other treads, but it didn't work out for me. I just don't know where in the bios i can change things, maybe my bios is different than others.

Hello there,

Well, yesterday the yahoo messenger stopped working on my laptop (IBM thinkpad, windows XP, bought in the year early 2005 or late 2004). It will not log me in with any of my logins. So, I tried uninstalling the software and downloading the newer version. When I tired to install, first I saw the downloading phase (which went without trouble to 100%) and then the installation phase, in which I got an error saying 404 file not found, download interrupted or aborted. the new icons of course didnt work and I couldnt log on to yahoo messenger.

So, I uninstalled the software again and deleted the files in the folder /documents and setting/...localsetting/temp/ and tried this again. It didnt work.

Now, I have repeated these steps a few times and don't think I have a real clue of what is going on.

Any ideas/suggestion, how can I install yahoo messenger back and start using it.

Hi all,
Have a weird one I can't fathom and looking for any advice/s****tions I can get.
My wife's PC uses a Gigabyte GA-8VM800M-775 motherboard. It has two SATA connectors - SATA0 an SATA1. I have a Maxtor SATA HDD drive connected to SATA0. Before now, I never tried connecting it to SATA1 but if I now do, it isn't found in the BIOS or in Windows (XP Pro) despite the SATA switch in the BIOS being set to "Enabled". As I have only the one HDD drive, I installed the SATA driver when I first installed the Maxtor. The SATA type is set in the BIOS to "IDE" rather than "RAID".
I have just replaced a Lite-On (IDE) CD-RW drive with an LG (SATA) DVD burner. If I remove the HDD and connect the DVD to SATA0, it is found in the BIOS without problem but connecting it to SATA1 doesn't, just like the HDD. I have installed the latest BIOS for this mobo and chipset drivers from Gigabyte's site but without success. The boot sequence is set to "HDD, CD, and Floppy" though one suggestion was to reverse this - I've done so, without success.
To test a solution, I purchased an Ultra ATA (IDE)/SATA connector - it fits into the IDE socket on the mobo but has two SATA outputs; SATA1 is one for a SATA mobo to parallel ATA HDD whilst SATA2 is for a parallel ATA mobo to a SATA HDD. Using this device with the SATA cable connecting the SATA2 output to the DVD drive and inserted into IDE1 socket on the mobo, it's found in IDE... Read more

Answer:SATA DVD not found in BIOS but HDD is

i would first check if there are jumpers on the dvd drive (probably not as i dont think sata needs jumper settings).

If not, it is probably an issue in the bios, in the drive setup see what other options you have besides ide, also check that the secondry drive setting in the bios is set to auto and not disabled.

then post back

Morning all, click here Pcadvisor Thread. With reference to the above, I seem to be explaining the same fault over again. To refresh and save and laziness the HDD fails to boot up. The PC is powered on, the BIOS starts and shows the detecting screen of the POST and spends along time searching for the IDE hard disk (primary master, single drive on IDE 1). Instead of showing the details of the drive it simply returns IDE HDD Drive and tries to boot the OS which it cant find since the HDD is not fully recognized. The screen then goes to the Boot failure, press F1 to resume etc. When entering the BIOS and looking at the HDD detection, its shows a Maxtor N40P drive is present. The drive is a Maxtor 6E040L0. Reseting the BIOS does not clear this on boot up. I have updated the BIOS with no effect. The anti virus software was up to date when the problem occurred. I have tried to run Powermax, Maxdiag and the ERD in Windows 2000 all with no success as they are unable to locate the drive to test. Its been changed to Slave and put on other connectors and cables and also been tested in another PC with exactly the same results. No wires have been changed and the PC was powered down as normal and then powered on several hours later. The drive does make a noise similar to electric wires being pulled or sparked across each other. With all this in mind, solutions would be appreciated, bearing in mind the following...1. The drive showed the symptoms before, it was returned to the supplier who ... Read more

Situation: I received a Acer Aspire 5520 64bit Vista. HDD hac been scrambled by teenaged linux experiment:cry. I tried to reinstall Vista 64 from a good cd, but it stalled saying it couldnt find a "64" file destination? Decided to install XP 32bit. All goes ok,even the drivers were available.
Problems: 1)the dvd rom is not recognized. Not listed in hardware mgr or the Bios drive list. I've been thru all these fixes, everything short of flashing bios:confused
-New Hardware install; pull/replace dvd from laptop; PCFix & AutoFix.exe; reg edit showed no upper or lower filters but showed dvd rom as default(shouldnt the dvd unit id be here?); Optiarc site said no driver needed, is P&Play.
Whats next? I started the driver install proceedure with the newest chipset.
Some sites say flash Bios. But which one to use, 32 ADM or 64 ADM?
2) The touchpad tap and button functions wont work after boot. After all start up finished,if I fiddle with the WIN button/open something/close it using tab&enter, a few times the functions return to normal. Except it is not sensitive, gotta tap hard. Happened before and after updating the Synaptics driver (ALPS driver wouldn't load so I assumed it was the other ot the 2 choices I found on ACER site).
THanks for any input
Acer 5520/AMD Turion64/2GHz/2.75RAM/XPpro-sp3

Answer:DVD-ROM not found in bios/hardware mgr

The Acer 5520 appears to like Vista, as it comes installed with it.
To check on the installation version, "Everest " can be downloaded, and will show your pressent system, to see which driver you might need.
Otherwise download that manual from this link.
You should now be able to instal Vista.Sometimes XP has not the correct driver availability, and it does say on Acer site , to be careful-

Note the site instruction to instal some drivers AFTER installing Vista.
If you just want to instal XP, then come back, and others may be able to help with the drivers, if I am not on-line.

Hi all! I've been trying to find a solution to this problem for awhile and am hoping someone here might have an idea. I already talked to Dell and the were of very little help!

I have a Dell Studio Laptop, running Win7 64bit.

My CD/DVD drive/burner is frequently "lost" when I try to use it. I first noticed it when I tried to eject a CD one time and got no response from the eject button. When I checked "Computer" it didn't show the drive at all. I had used the drive about 30 mins earlier and it was fine. Dell Support had me update BIOS and it worked okay.

However, the same thing happened the next day. I updated the BIOS again (it stated I already had the BIOS's most updated version, but I went thru with it anyway). The drive was found again and all was okay. BUT, it continues to happen. If I go to use the drive after being on the computer for awhile, the drive can't be found and doesn't detect CD/DVD's that are in it. A reboot doesn't help, but if I go thru the whole BIOS update again, I am okay, but only for a little while.

One thing that may or may not have contributed to this is the upgrade to Win 64bit from Vista 64bit. Although the drive worked for a while after I did the upgrade, I never had the problem when I still had Vista.

Any ideas of what I could try next!? Thanks SO much!!

This is a critical issue to me. The laptop was bought couple months ago, so I haven't done any backup of my files. (which are very important to me)

It's an ibm x40, 40GB hitachi hdd (C4K40 model HTC424040F9AT00).

Have been working fine, until 2 sudden crashes.
Both was blue screen of "dumping ..memory" (although I had 512mb ram onboard, and was only using mpc to watch movie)
Prior to crash, hdd was making funny clicking sounds repeatingly. (I've heard a similar sound before, on my desktop when it wasn't spinning properly.)
The sound occured when I was trying to skip some parts of the movie (by clicking on different time points). This same crash happened twice.

Then finally on last boot up, I had an error message of some dll not found, windows cannot run.

I restarted, and this time, BIOS does not detect my hdd..
and it tries to run Intel boot agent (from network..)
I still hear the same clicking sound from the hdd...

I've tried hdd regenerator, win boot disk, etc...
All of them says HDD NOT FOUND.

Could someone tell me what's wrong? Is the hdd dead....? or is it motherboard prob?
Are there any methods I could possibly recover my data?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:X40 thinkpad hdd not found in BIOS. Please help.

Thank you for your reply.

Would you mind telling me which method is most reliable?
Do data recovery centers work 100%? Are they expensive? Would it be worth it?

I'm thinking of taking it to the ibm service center.. Is it a one-shot try?

Thanks a lot.
