I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Guys!
Sorry if this was posted already, really busy!

Well this is my problem...i have a couple of pcs with windows xp, and i want to disable the windows explorer view, like explore all users by right clicking on the start menu orb. Or simply as when opening the file explorer, never having the left pane with the file list tree, so that no program can activate this view...

I have older people working in this company and sometimes they just dont let go of the left click on the mouse, making them moving files they are not supposed to.

We use a access database that views its contents (like docs, pics, gifs) always with this left pane with tree listing of all the folders...

I would be gratefull for this solution...

Hi,
is this possible?
I currently have things like Favourites, Libraries, and Homegroup (all of which I don't care for). Not sure what that folder pane is actually called, so not sure what to search for.
I just want an expanded folder tree of My Computer.

Any suggestions?
thanks

[edit:
Favorites - Add or Remove from Navigation Pane for Favourites apparently. still not sure about libraries or homegroup]
[another edit:
Libraries Folder - Add or Remove from Navigation Pane
for Libraries
ok, at least it's searchable now that I know it's called navigation pane]

Answer:Change/remove entries in "Folder view" pane (left side of Explorer)

I'm not sure why one would do this. Right click on what ever you don't want and select delete. Be very sure you want to do this. Those things do no harm being there.

Hi to all, i have a laptop running Windows 7 Professional. The problem is strange and havent had it on any other Windows 7 machine.

If i click the folder icon on the bottom tool bar (windows explorer) then in the left hand pane expand the C drive then right click on any folder it instantly displays a dialog saying Explorer has experienced a problem and needs to close, windows is
looking for a fix for this problem (cant remember exact wording) then Explorer.exe restarts. This happens on the local C drive and Network drives.
I though it could be a permissions problem so have taken ownership of all files & folders on the C drive which made no difference, i have removed the laptop from our server / domain and it is still the same / no change.
Can anyone shed any light on this problem or offer any ideas on fixing it? the laptop is only a few months old and is i5 / 4GB RAM Dell machine running Windows 7 Pro SP1 office 2003 Pro, checked for virus & adware & all clean.

Answer:Explorer.exe crashes when righ click on item in left pane on windows explorer nothing in system logs, explorer.exe restarts.

The faulting module (Fault Module Name: SHELL32.dll) shell32.dll is a Windows system file however the file that is actually causing the crash may be a third party file which from the symptoms
may be a third party context menu handler.
The following link has some info and a download to ShellExView which you can use to selectively disable third party context menu handlers to find out a problematic one:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/slowrightclick.htm
You could try disabling all non-Microsoft context menu handlers and then, if the problem resolves, re-enable them one at a time to see which one was the problem.
BTW, the error should be logged in the Event Viewer Application log as a Application Error involving explorer.exe

Hi guys. The screenshot below shows that I've gotten rid of the letters for all the drives, partitions, but in the Libraries menu each item is followed by the drive letter where it is installed. Is there a way to get rid of that? This only happened after I removed the default links in the Libraries that pointed to My Music and such...

Thanks.

If I expand a folder that's down towards the bottom and there's a lot of subfolders, then everything moves up to make room for the subfolder list. That's as it should be. But about the time I go to click on one of the subfolders, the whole list moves down again and you have to scroll back down to get where you want. After that, it stays put. It's an bug/annoyance that I hope someone gets fixed.
Just my 2 cents worth.

I think the OP is noticing the little quirk in Win 7 where Explore does not bring the left pane target folder (the one with focud) up to the to of the pane, throwing it instead to the bottom of the pane.

A nuisance for sure, but unresolved to my knowledge.

I can get Windows Explorer to open to a specific folder in the Right Pane, but it only shows the "Computer" or "C:" level in the Left pane. I have tried pinning the folder to "Start", and have also tried various switches (n, e, select) as the target in Explorer.

Attached is an example where a shortcut in Start opens TechInfo in the right panel, but not the left.

Is there any way to open the folder in the left pane also? It's a minor issue, but a pain!

TIA.

Yes this has been answered before (in 2001, I think) but the solution as provided via Rollin' Rog:

failed to work. Maybe because IE is version 6?

The symptoms are the same - blank, b'ground-coloured left pane. The above was entered (I also tried 'shdocvw.dll' but no dice.

Any further possible solutions, please?

I just reformated my hard drive and reloaded XP Home. The problem I'm having, is that when I open Windows Explorer, (not Internet Explorer) the left pane (tree) does not cascade automatic to show all the folders. It just shows Documents, My Computer and the + sign beside each one to expand to the folders. It used to do this automatically in the past. I've tried all the view options on the tool bars, all property settings and nothing works. I'm running active desktop like I always do. Any ideas?

Thanks, Steve

I had a look at your problem just after you posted eary this morning. Was not sure that i understood what is going on.Thought you had got your Windows Explorer.exe confused with internet explorer.exe.I also considered you had poss a bad update of IE5 as it appears to only have one choice in the add/remove programs for it.Considered at some stage you may have had a virus, but you don't mention anything about a virus scan or any error messages.I would suggest that your problem is wide spread through-out your pc and i think you have issues with your registry and corrupt files within the windows installation."I could also be very wrong" You could go for a quick re-install of windows 98 over itself and see if that cures the problem. It may give you a chance to keep all software programs that are installed and running properly,if that be the case.If it was me, i would not hesitate to reformat and do a repeat clean install of windows.Unless someone can come up with a better idea.

My problem is how the left window reacts when I select a folder.

If I have a long list of folders in the left window and I click on the small arrow to the left of a folder, it is supposed to show the list of sub-folders that are in the selected folder.

It does but here is my problem. Lets say the folder that I select is in the middle of the left window. When I click on the small arrow, Windows Explorer shifts the folder list down so that the selected folder is near the bottom of the window. Generally I can only see one of the sub-folders. And then I have to use the slider to move the selected folder up so I can see more than one sub-folder.

I wish it would leave the folder where it was and show as many sub-folders as possible underneath the selected folder. I hope this explanation makes sense.

Answer:The Navigation Pane on the left side of Windows Explorer

I tried it on my Computer and the on clicking the arrow it moves up as it should instead of going down. Please try out the following steps to correct the problem.

1. Restore the folder to default as follows and check if that helped:

a. Open windows explorer
b. Click on Organize
c. Select folder and search option from the list
d. Select General tab, and select “Restore Default”

2. Run an online scanner to check any malware or virus activity. The link that will help you to run a free scan on the computer is Windows Live OneCare

3. If the above steps do not help then run the SFC (System File Checker) scan on the computer to fix the system file errors on the computer. To run SFC scan, follow the steps below:

a. Click Start ,
b. Click All Programs ,
c. Click Accessories , right-click Command Prompt ,
d. And then click Run as administrator.
e. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type the password, or click Allow or Continue.
f. At the prompt, type sfc /scannow and hit enter. Once the scan is complete, restart the computer for the changes to take effect.

Please tell if this was of any use.

This is something that's been bothering me since I upgraded this Dell XPS8700 to windows 10 some two weeks or more ago.

The left pane in File Explorer seems to duplicate my drive letters and info other than what's under the entry "This PC".

If I look down the list, starting just below the Libraries folder, the drive letters are repeated but not all of them.

Like I have under This PC : C: , DVDRW D:, E:, F: , a card reader, H,L,K, external drives L:, another card reader letter M:, a second external drive N:, followed by some NAS folders I have mapped, V, W, X. and Y.

Down past the Libraries folder are again: H, L, N, M, K, and I, then Network etc, Homegroup etc.

Hard to describe, I could do a screen shot and post it if that would help see it.

How and why are all these drive letters getting into this tree twice? Anyone?

Whenever explorer opens, I can never find the folders I want easily. Therefore, I put them in the Favorites part of the navigation pane. However, still, when I open explorer, the left pane goes somewhere so low down that I can't even see my the favorites folder. Every single time I have to scroll all the way up to the top to find basic things like "Desktop." Is there ANY WAY to be able to always have the favorites bar showing on the left? To never have it disappear, no matter what folder in the tree Windows has opened? This was fine in XP. Its just AWFUL in windows 7. Takes time and is totally frustrating, and there seems to be no way to fix it as far as I have researched? Can anyone help me fix this?

On a side note, which is not nearly as important as my issue above, (because this one frustrated me to the point of no longer caring), is there any way to have the desktop fill up the space of a removed icon, but yet not reorganize the entire screen to where the last organization of your files is totally reorganized the next time you check? Hello,

I just noticed Win Explorer does not refresh the right pane as I navigate up/down a list of folders via arrow keys in the left pane. It used to make rapid visual read of folder contents possible. Can that feature be switched back on?

I've seen this reported elsewhere few years ago but I cannot find it on this site.

Answer:Windows Explorer right pane does not match left folder

Not sure if that's possible. Use the up or down button until you have highlighted the one you want. Then press Enter or Space to update the pane to the right. You use the left and right buttons to collapse/expand sub folders.

I find Space the best and fastest option since you use both hands. One to navigate and the other to refresh the right pane.

Hi,

My Windows 7 navigation pane view has changed and for some reason the Desktop icon appears at the top of the pane and everything else collapses into it. Libraries, Computer, Home Group and Network all collapse into the Desktop icon in the navigation pane. It didn't used to be like that. In fact originally there was no Desktop icon visible in my navigation pane. Can anyone suggest how to set it back to its' original Windows 7 view?

Thank you.

This one is getting really annoying. I have noticed that sometimes when using Windows Explorer, if I rename a folder, the right hand pane shows the correct (new) folder name, but the left hand pane still displays the old folder name.

As a matter of fact, even if I right click on the folder name on the left hand pane, and choose "Rename", and then rename it there, when I hit Enter to save the name change, the folder name on the left (that was just highlighted and changed) will revert back to the original name....but the name in the right hand pane will show the change.

For some reason, it just doesn't seem to want to update the view in the left hand pane. And then, to top it off, after some undetermined amount of time, the left hand pane will "refresh" to show the new folder name, but it will STILL show the old folder in the list as well. If I right-click the parent folder and choose "Open in New Window", the view is correct, but the original window still shows the old folder names.

This may only happen after my Explorer windows (I usually have 4 or 5 up) have been open for a long time, as I tried to reproduce with new windows and the behavior is normal (left hand pane updates view immediately).

I've reported it already, but just curious if anyone else has experienced this odd behavior.

I think this is just a part of it being a Beta still. I have tried to delete the HomeGroup section, and while it goes for awhile as soon as it refreshes it's back. Just like some sections of the Registry is locked out and some permissions can't be changed, these things will all be sorted out by RC1. Renaming any system item is locked down in the registry and Left (Navigation) Pane items seem to be a part of this lockout.

Make sure to send MS Feedback on this so they know what works and doesn't.

When Windows Explorer is open, if I right-click on anything in the left-pane, Explorer crashes and re-starts.

I've googled, and tried using NirSoft's ShellFix, disabled the most common issues googling resulted in:
#1 Remove Nvidia context-menu and for desktop right-click.
#2 Remove Spybot Search & Destroy context-menu.
#3 Remove Nvidia "nvshext.dll" (not found after using ShellFix)

None of these resulted in a fix at all. I've tried booting in safe mode, the same problem exists. I can right-click on file and folders in the right pane of Explorer, but right-clicking in the left pane, whether folder or drive. Explorer still crashes.

I found a Microsoft page regarding a similar issue, and to be on the safe side, I tried that. Still doing the same thing.

This is really driving me crazy, since I use portable backup drives to re-install my games onto the system but it's pretty hard to drag and drop when you can't have a second Explorer pane open.

Anyone have any ideas?

Hello, in ShellexView, Have you also explored 32 bit options (see Options, Show 32-bit...). This reveals more.

You might learn more by inspecting the event log or Reliability History (just type 'reli' into the cortana search bar)

In Windows Seven if I right click in Explorer left pane Favorites I can then press 'e' to open that folder in a new window. In Vista, I have to press 'o'. Being right handed and wanting to use the mouse, now I have to reach across with my left hand to press the 'o' key.

Is there no way to change the underline/shortcut/accelerator whatever they call it key in the context menu? I see no way to do it. I look in the Registry and I don't see any "&" in front of any of the letters. But the short cut letter is there just the same. There must be a way to change it.

All I've been able to find is turn the display of underline on and off. No info how to change the letter itself.

Answer:Change underline key for Explorer Left Pane context menu?

Just left-click "Open in new window" from the right-click menu. No need to use the keyboard at all for that. Using the mouse buttons is quicker anyway (at least it should be if you already have the mouse under your hand).

Windows 98 - Windows Explorer

When using windows explorer on the top of the page you can choose in the "view" whether you want to see the files as Large Icons, Small Icons, List or Details. All of a sudden when choosing "details" the files cannot be seen. On the Left side is the folders but when using details the right side of explorer is blank. When either Large Icons, Small Icons or list is chosen the files appear on the right side. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Jim.

Dear All:

I have been experiencing an annoying issue in Windows (Windows Ultimate 64 bits, Home premium 64 bits and Windows 8 Pro 64 bits) min

After working well for a few minutes, the windows explorer freezes upon launch, only displaying the "favorites", "libraries" and "homegroup" icons in the left pane. The elements in the mentioned icons cannot be accessed and sometimes they have a magnifying glass on them and the icons on the desktop are blank.

Also, Control Panel windows is often empty after this error takes place.

This issue often, but not necessarily, comes about when i try to check the properties of a file, with windows explorer freezing immediately.

I have reinstalled Windows 7 twice to no avail.

Anyone has ideas on how to fix this? It's rendering my two laptops unusable.
Highly appreciate any useful advice.

Thank you,
Madasco

I use windows explorer a lot and I always use the left side navigation pain/tree view. The problem I have, first started after I switched from XP to Vista. When I click on the little red triangle, the folder should open, revealing the folders within like a drop down menu does. The parent folder does reveal the contents, but it jumps all the way down to the bottom of the explorer window concealing the contents of the parent folder, then I have to scroll up to see the folders within. Win XP never does this. What is really irritating is that the problem is intermittent. 50% of the time it works fine, the other half, the parent folder drops down to the bottom concealing the folder contents. I have three desktops in my home, two with W732, one with WXP32 and a laptop with W764, all have the same issue except for the one with XP. At first I was thinking that it was a bug specific to Vista and since Win 7 was due to be released soon after Vista, I dealt with it until I upgraded to Win 7. Unfortunately, Win 7 32/64bit also continued to have the same problem. This was really becoming a pain in the (you know what). If anyone has had the same frustrating problem, and found a solution they would like to share, or if someone has some input, it would be most appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:Windows Explorer: Tree View/Navigation Pane problem

I saw that too. It's a bug in Windows explorer. Researching a little on how to fix it, found that it has been reported to MS numerous times and they do NOT plan to fix it.

The only workaround I know of is installing a program called "Classic shell" (Welcome to Classic Shell). It adds a lot of options in Windows Explorer to customize and make it similar to WinXP, and even has a complete replacement for the start menu to look like previous versions.
The important part is, it includes an option to fix that bug among its customization options. I'm using it and so far it never annoyed me with that bug anymore.

This has stumped me so good I actually signed up to a forum... Hey guys..

Long story short.. "Show Libraries" refuses to work in File Explorer

I've done this.. And it doesn't do anything. It doesn't even leave a check or anything.

I've done this.. And while it leaves a check showing it's "working".. It still isn't showing my libraries

I've also done this.. It checks, I hit apply, ok to close the box and nope.. If I re-open the folder options again the box is unchecked.

The only way in File Explorer I can get it to show my libraries is use "Show All Folders".. Which I don't want to do.

The strangest part is.. In the OPEN Dialog (the dialog that opens if you want to browse files to upload to say, imgur).. It works as it should..

I've done a sfc /scannow and it comes out clean.. I have no idea how File Explorer got so corrupt. Windows updates are all current, etc..

Hello all, I have two problems which I think might be related. First off, everytime I want to go into my c: drive, windows asks me what program do I want to use, and I manually select windows explorer, then I am able to go in c: drive...never did that before..just noticed the problem maybe a week or so. Secondly, I am not able to view hidden folders, when I select the view hidden folders and apply the selection, I then go back to see if it is still selected and it is not. It reverts back automatically to do not show hidden folders, further more, I've noticed that I've been experiencing frequent error messages while I am navigating to various websites, and windows explorer now has to close. Answer:Windows explorer and hidden folder view

Hello Muy Raro,

Infection is showing here, so let's get to some repairs, then see about those other problems as well if our repairs don't resolve them (I think they will). Be sure when posting to include the entire logs (the HijackThis log is missing the header portion).
To keep them from interfering with the repairs, be sure to temporarily disable all antivirus/anti-spyware softwares while these steps are being completed. This can usually be done through right clicking the software's Taskbar icons, or accessing each software through Start - Programs.
Download ComboFix.exe from here to your desktop, but I would like you to rename the file as you download it (do not download it directly without renaming it). Just save it to your desktop as MyCombo.exe. Then click the MyCombo.exe file to run the repair.

When the command window opens, select 1 (and Enter). Allow the scan to run. When completed a text window will appear - please copy/paste the contents back here. This log can also be found at C:\ComboFix.txt.

When starting ComboFix will cause your computer's internal speakers to produce two beeps, and during the start process display two warnings. These are intended to discourage people who are not getting help in the forum from just experimenting with tools they do not understand. Just to inform you so you will understand that the procedures are expected, and okay.
A caution - do not touch your mouse/keyboard until the scan has completed. The scan wi... Read more

I click on the "+" beside the icon of a drive or folder near the bottom of the left pane of my Windows 7 Explorer. If the list of sub folders that opens is longer than the distance to the bottom of the pane, the lower icons become hidden. Those subfolders extend "below" the pane -- out of view. I want the contents of the pane to shift upward so that all the sub folders of interest are visible -- like on my XP computer and my win98 computer?

Is there a way that I can fix this?

Is it possible to change the size of tree view icons from 16 to at least 24??
100% dpi show 16x16
125% dpi show 20x20 but icon 24 (if 20 does not exist)
150% dpi show 24x24 this is good but
everything looks very big.
Interesting thing is if I re size the fonts in 150% dpi to be like on 100% dpi the icons also change to 16x16.
W. Explorer can be replaced by another program but what for other software that also uses tree view?
I'm on 1920x1200 24" do I need to use smaller monitor with smaller resolution for bigger icons or very big monitor that 150% looks small or there is some reshack to some file that can be done??
In Xp registry:

When I open an instance of windows explorer, the navigation pane show little or nothing (no drives, folders, etc.). Also the preview pane does not show a preview for any selected files (See Capture1.JPG).
If I open a second (or higher) instance of windows explorer, the navigation pane functions properly (the preview still does not show) (See Capture2.JPG).
I have previews set to show (See Capture3.JPG).
Also occasionally, the file icons will be blank instead of showing the file type specific icon. When this happens, the address bar also seems to take a long time to load. The load bar will stop before reaching the end and won't finish (See Capture4.JPG).

Does anyone know what is going on or how to fix this?

FYI I am running 64 bit Windows 7 Pro.

Try Explorer++ and see if you get the same problem.

Need to enable "Folders" view.
If it works then you can rule out problems with system files and it's probably a buggy shell extension.

Example I am looking at a full window of folders with five coloumns of folders. If I double click on a folder in any coloumn except the far left coloumn, all of the coloumns move to the left by one coloumn space. Reseting file and view settings does not
fix the problem. I have seen this on Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 7 Professional, and Windows 7 Enterprise. It does not matter if it is on a domain or not or if a group policy is setting the home page.
This means I have to click twice as many times to open a folder in list view and that is the view I really want to use. Clicking twice as many times is also not good for carpel tunnel. This happens on my home and work computers and I have seen it on other
Windows 7 computers. Neither does the reg hack for MIUs or something similiar to that.

Answer:Windows 7 Explorer in list view moves coloumns of folders to left when you double click folder to open it

Hi,

That’s a by design feature, but you can apply view settings to all folders of the same type. Here are
the detailed steps:

1. Open a folder and make changes as you like.
2. Press Alt to display the menu bar. Click Tools -> Folder options.
3. Click View tab.
4. Press the "Apply to folders" button.
5. Click Apply and click OK.

Note: The "Apply to folders" settings apply the current view setting to all folders that are optimized for the
same content as the folder you have open. This setting will not apply to the folders which is not the same type.

Hope that helps.

Hi guys. Could not get documents preview to work, so I tried the favored solution/fix of PreviewConfig but then at least something "worked" although with weird words & letters. See attached shot in the right pane please.

You got any idea why the preview panel shows just this word-letter jibberish? Any way to fix the view of this preview?

For my documents I am running Oo (Open Office) that uses .odt. The words letters open just fine when the entire .odt file is opened, so I am kinda at a loss as to what gives.

Note, that even with both set to show hidden, some folders will still seem hidden, like Content.IE5 (actual Browser Cache). In this case, you type-in the \Content.IE5 at the end of ...\Temporary Internet Files and it will display.

Here's is basically how my system is:
All my desktop icons are stuck on the left side of the desktopAll file explorer view are stuck in details view.

Now yes, I have turned off Auto-arrange, still refreshes to all icons on left. I have tired ALL sorts combinations of view + sort by... nothing.

I have tired many anti-malware/virus scans and nothing has come up. I have tired CCleaner pretty much everything and the problem persists.

Of note, I had done a system restore a week and half ago to a specific point and that fixed the problem but for just a day, then it happened again. When I got around to having time to go for another system restore, that restore point was gone and now no other restore point is fixing the issue -_-

That left me to think it might be something I installed or perhaps a windows update... but after having uninstalled pretty much everything I could that I installed in the last week as well as removing recent updates.... nothing.

I have also tried making a new windows account (local)... nothing. Also tried in safe mode, still nothing.

Sooooo, there must be something fcked in my registry or it's something I have no clue about. Google searching has left me nowhere so I begging for some help pls. Thanks~

Is it possible to have no Nav Pane when opening a Desktop folder, but have Nav Pane when opening Win Explorer? Like it was in WinXp/Win98/Win95?
When I disable Nav Pane, it disappears for Desktop folders and Windows Explorer.

On my laptop with XP-PRO SP2 installed I can rename a file or folder in both the left and right explorer panes by slowly left clicking twice on the file or folder name (not the icon). I really like not having to right click and select rename from the context menu. However, I am unable to rename files and folders in the left explorer pane on either of my two desktop PCs, one with XP-PRO SP2 installed, the other with XP-PRO SP3 installed. Is there a Registry modification or a setting somewhere I could change on my two desktops to allow me to rename in the left pane by clicking the name twice. I am comfortable making Registry modifications and I am careful to make backups of the Registry keys and values before changing them. I have searched the internet using Google but have been unable to find the answer. I would greatly appreciate any information on this subject. Thanks.

How do you get the left folder pane back into position with the right message pane next to it.
Once again, the messages pane are on top of the folder pane.
How can I move the folders back where they belong.

Recently, I started to use HP Laptop on daily basis and found 'Search' at the left side of the pane/screen is missing/lost when clicking on 'Search' at the top. 'Search' at the address bar is perfectly OK tho'.

Is this issue related to not use it for a while, .... or how did it disappear?

Only seen is 'Google' ad. popping up upon clicking at 'Search' on the tool-bar of the top.

How can I rescue 'Search' at the left pane of screen?

Windows 7 has apparently lost the ability to rename a folder in Explorer's left-hand (Navigation) pane by left-clicking a highlighted folder a 2nd time.

I know I can use F2 or right-click< Rename, or even rename in the right-hand pane, but I'm so used to doing it it the left-hand pane that I keep forgetting and trying to do it.

So is this intentional or is it a bug? I'd like to know so I can report/request it for a future SR. Although I have a feeling it's supposed to be this way and I'm wasting my time. Still.... it's always worth a try.

Answer:Rename folders in left pane - feature or bug?

Mac,

I think it's intentional. You can see the full options if you right-click on any folder at the left pane of Windows Explorer, so i think it's not bug.

Microsoft is not careless on that case.

id like to place it where the red line is

[also, can you change the icons for 'libraries' ]

Answer:Customize the left hand folder pane?

Hi al4x,

The closest I got with adding the desktop icon to the side pane is you can add the desktop Icon by clicking the Favorites arrow.(it might be already there). If you don't have any favorites or the arrow is not there you can add the Desktop Icon to it by Clicking and holding the icon and drag it to the favorites tab..

I have not been able to figure out if you can just add an icon anywhere in the side pane my guess in no..

And I have not found a way to change the icons for the libraries..(I don't think you can)

Hope this Helps..

OK I'm probably repeating a topic but maybe someone can lead me to a correct answer. I would like to change my left pane background and the left pane background of my folders individualy and the main background in all folders! I've used dodgey programs before that have caused head aches. I have used "Restorator 2007 to change icons and backgrounds before, so any advice would be helpful heres a screen shot:

Answer:How to change left pane BG in start menu and all folders

Welcome to the Seven Forums

It looks like you are using a third-party custom theme post a link to it and I can give you the image number for the left side of the start menu.
The backgrounds for the Windows Explorer on the left side and the main window are fill colors and the only way I know how to change that is to use Ave's Windows7 Style Builder

The left side of the control panel are Bitmaps #632 and 633 in the shell32.dll in both C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64 after editing(put copies on your desktop and edit them did not get them mixed up) you will need to properly change a system file you need to take ownership give yourself permission and rename the old file and then copy in the new one look at Post #6 of this thread will tell you how to do it Basic Networking Information

Now I know of the tool 'Windows 7 Navigation Pane Customizer' but how would I go about renaming and removing the sub-categories? Looked around on Google and everything kept coming up that tool.

Answer:Hide left Windows 7 Navigational Pane items?

Hello CosmicPoptart,

You could use the tutorial below to hide these folders for them not show their anymore. However, this will hide these folders everywhere, and not just here.

File and Folder - Hide or Unhide

Hope this helps,

Hi. My problem is slightly different but along the same lines? When I open Explorer, Favorites is displayed at the top of the left column, as desired. However, not all of the folders I have designated for Favoriates is displayed in the left column. When I left click on the word "Favorites," then in the right column the entire list of Favorites folders does display. (Meaning: there's a list of nine folders on the right side, but back in the left column under Favorites only seven are displayed.)

I've tried all of the solutions described above and none fixes this problem. If I try to drag a folder from Right to Left, two things happen: (A) A copy of that folder is created on the right side (so I'll see the original and a version with "(2)" after the name; and (B) on the left side, one of the folders that used to be in Favorites no longer displays.

I don't know why a copy is made on the Right, but the action on the Left leads me to believe that somehow the left column Favorites is set to display no more than seven (7) items, but I can't find where to change that setting.

ANy ideas out there?

Answer:Favorites in left pane does not display all Favorite folders

Hello Kell, and welcome to Seven Forums.

As a test, open your C:\Users\(user-name)\Links folder, and see what you have for shortcuts there. If they are all there, then cut and paste them to your desktop to empty the folder, then copy them back to see if they appear in the navigation pane under Favorites afterwards.

If that doesn't help, then try the tutorial below along with the yellow TIP box if needed.

Favorites Empty in Navigation Pane - Fix

Hope this helps,

I am working on my mothers computer. Usually when you open Add Remove Programs from the Control Panel, on the left hand side you will see 4 separate "icons" 1) Change or Remove Programs 2) Add New Programs 3) Add/Remove Windows Components 4) Set Program Access and Defaults. When I open my mothers only the Set Program Access and Defaults Icon is showing. Can anyone help me fix this?

My computer has been having some problems lately and I really do not know what is going on.

I'm running a 2008 Toshiba laptop and about a month ago I started noticing that my cursor would randomly turn into a rainbow? this was the first problem I couldn't figure out, even going through forums and forums. Then I started noticing that every other website was being redirected to random spyware websites, even in the middle of viewing a website for over 3-4 minutes it could just randomly redirect me.

Finally, the most annoying thing of all has happened and I can't find ANYTHING about it; when I plug in my mouse everything works fine, but then i notice if i left click it'll open the property pane and also create a highlighted box.. basically any time i click anything, it acts as if i'm pressing the right click 5 times for every left click. This makes it very very difficult to click on links, play games, or virtually use my lap top at all. I have noticed something though, I swapped out my mouse for another and still had the same problem, BUT my touchpad doesn't have any of the problems above?? is it the driver for my USB mouse malfunctioning?
If you want the shorter version of that: My mouse changes into a rainbow randomly, i'm constantly redirected to websites for no reason, and my mouse will not stop spamming right click even when I left click but my touchpad doesn't have problems.

FIrst I'd like to note that this only happens after my computer has been on for a few days. What happens is that I will start typing and then the blinking cursor goes back a space and then next letter I press is before the last one. I have avg and have virus scanned but it has been to no avail in terms of this problem.

Is this because of a virus or something larger?

Answer:Letters don't come out left to right

Possibly:

'1. Click the Start->All Programs->Microsoft Office Tools->Microsoft Office Language Settings menu item.
2. Select and Remove Egyptian from the list.
3. Click OK.'

per: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/in...3052601AAyS41F

I also read that if your using Microsoft Word, there should be three buttons at the top right of the screen that change the direction of writing.

Windows XP. Outlook 2002. Preview Pane is missing from the View tab in the new folders that I created.

I had a personal folder(.pst) created a while ago and I used to be able to view the messages for that folder in the Preview Pane window. The folder got too big and I had to chop it to smaller folders. In doing so, The top folders that I created do not have Preview Pane show up in View tab. But, when I moved the existing sub-folders under the new folders or create sub-folders under the new folders, these sub-folders have Preview Pane.

The BAD solution was to create a TEMP sub-folder under each high level folder and forward all the message to it, but I would rather send all my message to the top folders.

Thanks in advance,
pongBeirut

I have just re-installed Outlook, and I cannot work out how to get the 'Message Header' pane to display 'From' & 'Subject' on two separate lines as I had before - they are just displaying on the one line.

Could someone please advise on what is, I am sure, a simple solution?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I apologize if this is a duplicate question- I have searched this forum and not found this topic.

In WinXP, when selecting View Folders, I would see a closed folder, with 4 small images of the folder contents. I liked this as I instantly knew what images were in my folder. I am drilling down as follows: Documents, then the folders come into view. These are the folders I am discussing here. Windows Explorer gives the same results.

In Vista, I get a partially open folder, with the contents partially visible, but cascaded so as to obscure the contents under the first view. I've tried all the possible options I can find withing Vista, including Large Icons, etc. I have searched online for how to make the folders give me the preview pane as in XP, to no avail. I have tried numerous fixes found online, but they do not work. I may be using the wrong terminology, but I have spent two months trying to get the folders to display as in XP. Would someone here know a fix for this?

Thank you in advance! Great forum here, BTW!

Answer:Folders, View, Preview Pane

Hi Crabcakes,

Try going to (top left) Organise> Layout> Preview Plane in the folder you would like to see image previews

Hi,

I am used to the Windows Live Mail's way of displaying the left pane. It would show a folder for each account, and under each folder would be Inbox, Junk, Sent Mail, etc. I just setup Outlook 2007 on my laptop with all my accounts and I cannot figure out how to get it to show each account separately. I know I figured out how to do this a couple weeks ago on another co-workers machine so that she could look through her junk mailbox and stuff -- and I remember it was one of those subtle tricky things too easy to forget.

EDIT: I tried everything I could come across through Google. I even tried Thunderbird and was surprised to see that they have very much degraded as has Outlook 2007. Windows Live Mail does it right. Another problem I came across with Outlook 2007 is that if you delete an e-mail account and then try to recreate it, you cannot use the same account name unless you are smart enough to Start->Settings->Control Panel->Mail->Profiles->Delete existing profile (completely resets e-mail account database for Outlook) ... what an [sarcasm]obvious[/sarcasm] fix. I can't believe that some of the most common and well-known mail clients have degraded to scat-value in usability.

I'm cutting my teeth on my first mod of a aero.msstyles dark theme, WP7 vs Mango by deviant art user ~oliver182 who no longer supports it , which as you can see is 95% finished on my Windows 7 64-bit screen grab below.
I just need help identifying image numbers which I cannot see listed in Wikipedia, namely the ones in my thread title which you can see have a white background with dark fonts text which I obviously need to invert to match them with the rest of the dark background/lighter font text theme.

Can anybody point me to a resource or URL that lists/can help me identify every aero.msstyles image number?

I'm currently using the trial version of "Restorator 2007" but apart from opening every single image in the image and stream folder I can't see how I can pinpoint the correct image for the incorrect white background/dark fonts for the "left pane Control Panel & 3D pop-up backgrounds and fonts etc"?

Any help much appreciated

The left Control panel image is bitmap #s 632 and 633 in shell32.dll in both C:\Windows\System32 and C:\Windows\SysWOW64.

Post a link to the theme and I can look at it and give you the image #s for the popup on the taskbar.

Most custom theme on deviant art and other places are made with Ave's Windows7 Style Builder and it changes the image #s so it's hard to have a list of #s, the only way I know how to change test color is with Windows St... Read more

My husband and I (an our daughter) share a single desktop PC and he managed to do something cool to his save dialog box left pane: changed the shortcuts from the default and useless My Network, My Computer etc. to folders that he actually uses.

I wanted the same thing so I asked him how he did that and he mentioned a utility called TweakUI. I asked him to install it for me but he said that he can't because it only works on administrator accounts and my account (and my daughter's) are limited accounts.

I hate this when my hubby selfishly gives himself something that he doesn't give us but he said this is "necessary for security reasons".

This is my first post asking for PC help ever. I registered just to show him that I can have this too - with your help of course.

Do you know of a tool that can help me achieve what he did for his account?

Thanks.
Nancy

Answer:[SOLVED] Customize shortcuts on save dialog box left pane?

You are not going to be able to install anything or change any styles, themes or icons unless your Husband makes you and Administrator too. Of course, if you got his password, you can log in as him and reset your user account to Admin, but you didn't hear it from me.

Hello, in Outlook 2013 there is a pane/sidebar on the left of the main UI where all of my configured email accounts are listed. Here I can see my gmail and comcast accounts and if desired, expand the folder list for each account. I recently added a new Yahoo pop3 account but for some reason it doesn't appear there. It works properly as far as send/receive but doesn't show up in the list. Any idea how to fix?

Answer:Outlook 2013, Pop acct doesn't appear in left sidebar pane

Sounds like you set up the new email account to use the default PST file.

Greetings:

My Start Menu looks kinda like this web pic.

Bottom line: Due to the other customizations I have implemented on my desktop,
the left pane to my start menu is empty, and I have no use for it either.

Is there an advanced way to disable / remove / hide just the left pane to the start menu
from being displayed, while still keeping the sharp looking aero glassy right side?

Thanks in advance for any info.

MeVII

Answer:Disable / Remove / Hide Left Pane to Start Menu

Hello MeVII,

Not without installing a 3rd party Start Menu program. You might consider the free version of Start Menu 7 (aka: Start Menu X) to see how you like it for that.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
