How do I enable touchpad vertical scrolling?

Question: How do I enable touchpad vertical scrolling?

When I go to the Control Panel > Mouse, I get an error message that says that my laptop is not recognizing my touchpad.

It still lets me open the configure window if I hit "no," and when I go to Device Settings > Scrolling > One-Finger Scrolling, it does not let me check the "Enable Vertical Scrolling" box. When I click the box, nothing happens.

My Synaptics driver is enabled to turn on at start up, so I don't know why this problem is happening.

I think I must have disabled something in msconfig without realizing it, because one day when I turned on my laptop I just wasn't able to use vertical scrolling. Any ideas? Advice would be much appreciated! Thank you!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: How do I enable touchpad vertical scrolling?

Hello moonlightxmania and welcome to Seven Forums.

If this issue just recently started you may be able to roll back your computer to a date/time prior to when it first began. See if you have a restore point that goes back that far.

System Restore

Another possibility is to see if you can update the Synaptics driver. Just as an example, my computer uses the Alps pointing device. When I go to control panel > mouse I get this:

When I click the Hardware tab and then double click on Alps pointing device I get this:

Click on the Driver tab and see if the "Update Driver" button can be clicked. (Mine is grayed out because I have the newest available driver.) If you can update the driver, do so. Please post back if your problem gets resolved.

I have a Dell D620 Laptop, and I'm looking for a vertical scrolling driver. I have a synaptics driver now, but under settings it does not allow me to turn on vertical scrolling (nor is it even a visible as an option).

I've tried installing another synaptics driver a few times, but so far I've had no success.

This is my first time to the forum so I appreciate all and any help you can offer me.

I have a new hp mini 311 that uses an alps touchpad in windows 7 with the latest hp drivers installed. The touchpad works great for normal mouse movements, but edge vertical scrolling is almost unusably bad. It scrolls a few lines here and there inconsistently, not really matching up to how my finger is moving along the scroll area. It's very inconsistent. It's almost like the alps drivers are doing their own processing to scroll the windows instead of having the scroll area emulate a mouse wheel (like in every other laptop I've used). There are sensitivity and scroll area controls in the drivers I'm using, but they don't help much.

Are there any different alps touchpad drivers out there that have better scrolling performance that I could try out? Or, are there ways to get the default windows touchpad drivers (which only work with mouse movement) to work with edge scrolling? Thanks.

Answer:Solved: bad vertical scrolling with alps touchpad

All right, I managed to find a solution to this problem. Install the toshiba alps 7.5.303.117 drivers. It doesn't let you customize any of the options, but it definitely fixes scrolling and works pretty well. The drivers are kind of tricky to find, but you might be able to find them on a toshiba sight and they fixed everything for me. Hope this helps anyone with similar problems.

I have just installed Windows 7 in my Toshiba A200 and downloaded drivers for the touch pad from Toshiba's site.
However, the option related to enabling vertical scrolling is not present in the settings.

Is there anything I can do to fix this?

Thank you.

Answer:Satellite A200 - Touchpad vertical scrolling not present

Hi

You have to install the Synaptics and the Alps touchpad driver.
Then you could enable the vertical scrolling in control panel -> mouse -> pointing devices -> settings.

Take a look into L500 series... there you will find both touchpad drivers

Answer:How to enable Touchpad scrolling on a Satellite 2410

Hi,

a little hint, hope it helps you:

Click on Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Mouse and then after you reached the "Mouse Properties" there should be a tab named "Advanced".
Mostly there is special software from the manufacturer, and there the settings can be modified.

Otherwise, look into your "Toshiba Console" if you can find something there.

Hello all,

I recently installed Windows 7 x64 onto my Dell Latitude D630 and found that the scrolling with the touchpad does not work at all. I have already downloaded and installed the Synaptics driver and nothing happened. I also downloaded R165804.exe directly from Dell's site and it came up with an error saying that 'the software does not work on your operating system. Click OK to exit.'

What now?

Answer:How to Enable Scrolling on Dell Latitude D630 Touchpad?

The Dell downloads do not show a touchpad driver for Vista 64 bit. Just the one you have which is listed for Vista 32 bit only.

Try installing that in a compatibility mode and see if that will help.

You can also post on the Dell laptop forum and maybe someone there will have something for you. Officially Dell does not support Win 7 on this model, although Vista drivers should work OK.

Hi

Of course you should be able to find the touchpad settings in control panel -> mouse -> pointing device (last tab) -> Settings button.

But this requires the installed touchpad Synaptics driver. Was this driver installed?
If not, check this Synaptics driver page:

Hello

Have you tested an external mouse on the notebook?

In your case I would try to update the touchpad driver. You can find it on the Toshiba website:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

Remove the old driver, restart the notebook and then install the new driver.

I recently acquired a Dell Latitude E4300 with Windows 10 installed. The issue is, I want to enable touchpad scrolling but cannot find a driver that works with Windows 10. The latest one is for Windows 8.1 and it will not work. Are there any alternative drivers, or something I can do. This is a huge deficit from an otherwise great machine. Any reason why Dell is not making them and/or if they could (hint hint anyone out there working for dell, this is in high demand i imagine).

Answer:Latitude E4300, Windows 10, Enable Touchpad Scrolling

The problem is that the nine year old 2008 Latitude E4300 was only validated/tested by Dell for Windows XP/Vista/7.

Because there is not a dedicated driver for it, Windows 10 would have to provide the touchpad scrolling ability. You are saying it did not. You may attempt to force the installation of this Windows 10 Dell Multi-Touch Touchpad driver. But again, we never tested it on the 2008 Latitude E4300.

Hello all.

I see from previous posts that this issue has been addressed in some way or another a few times and I have tried several of the fixes, and have had no success.

1. I have a toshiba L300 next to me(girlfriends), and this feature works fine. V annoying!!
2. I have never been able to enable the scrolling. I know where the setting are and have tried to check/uncheck the boxes/ press 'apply' then ok and the other way around.
3. I have re-installed the drivers from toshiba(synaptics).
4. I have updated the bios from tempro. Although I only registed for tempro recently, the dates on the list of updates seemed fairly old. ie. not much new stuff available anyway.

Thats where im at!
All advice would be apreciated.
Also, are Realtec drives related with the touchpad in some way??
Cheers Phill
I have about a month left on the warranty, so hopefully this would be something that may be covered if no-one can help.

Answer:Satellite Pro A210 touchpad synaptics cannot enable virtual scrolling.

Hello

In my opinion everything you already done is right and I?m really out of idea what you can try except most radical solution ? OS installation with recovery CD/DVD. After doing this you will have ?factory settings? again. As far as I know virtual scrolling is enabled by default and it should work after first start.

So doing this you can make the ?ultimate test? and be sure if this function works or not.

I just had my new W530 delivered yesterday, unfortunately with Windows 8 Professional. I noticed that the cursor would not move when I moved my finger across the touchpad or the cursor was "stuck" until I tried a repeat movement with my finger.   I adjusted almost every setting on the latest lenovo driver which provides for windows 8 screen gestures.   The responsiveness to windows 8 gestures does not appear that good, but it is a story for another post.  The main reason for my post is that vertical scrolling barely works in IE 10.I have all the smart check items disabled and the palmcheck lowered to 3.   I've got the touch sensitivity to light, but have also tried heavy.   I have to push like I'm trying to crack the case to get the cursor to move up and down, and often I will touch the right side of the touchpad and nothing happens or it takes a few tries of swiping to get the window to move up or down.    I called two support agents and the first one reminded me I have 30 days to return the unit for a refund, and the second guy had me update the driver with the lenovo update  utility which showed the same version as the one I downloaded and installed.  It made no difference.   He then suggested that if I keep the laptop, the trackpad needs replacing. From looking at some other posts, I really wonder if the pad could be ok, but lenovo is actually selling this thing with a trackpad that performs that poorly. &nb... Answer:Touchpad vertical scroll horrible or touchpad defective

On the W520, the two finger scrolling is unusable, it just randomly jerks the window, or not. Tried every trick in the book when I first got my W520, after a couple of months of wasting time gave up and only use it with a mouse. The W520 has the worst trackpad in the history of computing devices (and the worst mic and speakers, or at least worst drivers). If you need a working touchpad, dont by a Lenovo W series.

Hi. I have a Dell Inspiron 14. 2Gb Memory Core2Duo.

I can;t scroll Sideways but I can going up and down.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Dell Touchpad not scrolling Sideways. But scrolling Up & Down

On both my Acer aspire one netbook (synaptics) and my Lenovo notebook (alps) I need to tab twice on the lower edge of the touchpad (to gain its attention?!?) and then it will scroll. Beyond that I believe you need to take a walk on the Dell support web site. There are number of 14xx models so you need to follow the steps there to find the freshest driver for your particular model. On both of mine the newest drivers have given scrolling as well as "pinching" to re-size pages, photos etc.

Question: vertical scrolling

Hi. When I vertical scroll in a folder a date/time stamp appears to identify the link or picture I am scrolling past.  It just started doing this, and it blocks part of the folder. It appears once I've started to scroll. How do I deactivate this function? When I open a folder full of, say shortcuts and links, and as I scroll down through the folder  just beside the vertical scroll bar, on the inside of the folder, a little box appears an displays the date/ time of the link, or the name of the picture if its a jpeg, and this identifier changes to each each link or name I have in the folder as I scroll down, and actually blocks the items in my folder. Thanks, cuci

Ok... on the right side of the web browser window is a vertical scroll bar. There is an upward pointing arrow at the top and a downward pointing arrow at the bottom. Between them, there is a tab/bar that you can move up and down by left-clicking on it and moving your mouse, causing the page to move up or down. We all know this. My question is this... on my Windows 7 PC, when I click the downward pointing arrow a couple of times and leave the pointer hovering over the downward pointing arrow, the page will continue to scroll up on its own until I move the pointer away from the downward pointing arrow. What is this "feature" called and how do I disable it? It drives me crazy My Windows XP PC doesn't do it, thank God!

I was sat the other night thinking about some ideas for sites designs and I think I have come up with something different.Horozontal scrolling! Everybody tries so hard to keep the WIDTH of the page within the confines of the screen and go up and down, but how about doing it the other way around. Keep the height locked and scroll left and right!I appreciate that not everybodys mouse has a left right tilt wheel like mine (where I got my idea from), but at one point we didnt have scroll wheels. So, what do you guys and gals think? And do you have any links to sites that are maybe already using this convention, because so far I havn't found any (but then I havn't really been looking :D )Feedback appreciated,Jay

Answer:Horozontal Vs. Vertical Scrolling!

I like that, I think it will be my motto for the day.I was playing around with some ideas in dreamweaver last night and the main difficulty I encountered was how to actually get the text into columns. The new CSS3 standard will supposedly support columns, but it will probably be a few years before wide-spread suppors for CSS3 in browsers will be available.I think using tables for a static site would be fine, but for a dynaminc site the task would be alot more difficult. Still, I'm not going to give up quite yet, and will continue to play with some designs. Before I forget: click here'The horizontal way' is pretty much what it says, a site that scroll horizontally!

But if the Opera supports this option so maybe you have to enable it only in the Opera settings?

We just got a Dell XPS-15z, and, we have questions about scrolling on the Cypress touchpad using the Cypress drivers.

When scrolling down (either one finger or 2 fingers), when you hit the bottom of the touchpad, is there any way for the scrolling to continue without your having to lift your finger(s) back to the top of the touchpad? On other Dell laptops, I have Chiral motion, or the scrolling continues so long as your finger is at the bottom of the touchpad? I tried enabling the "Continued Motion" option just in case that was what did it, but that did not seem to work.

Which brings up another question re what "Continued Motion" does.

Also, is there any manual/help document for this driver either on the internet, or in the software itself?

I looked on the forum and on the internet, and couldn't find any answers.

TIA.

Hiya. New user here, and, while I know horizontal scrolling has never worked in Firefox (or at least I've read as much on some sites I found searching for a solution to my particular problem), my vertical scrolling is, for the lack of a better word, wonky. It works fine in every other program, but when I try to scroll in Firefox, moving my finger a tiny bit does nothing, and past the threshold, it scrolls an entire page. Is there a way to change this? I've asked a few friends that own ThinkPads, but they said they'd never experienced anything of the sort.Any help would be greatly appreciated. We are having a new kitchen fitted. The electrician said that the single feed to the hob extended to the oven was overloaded and illegal. He has fitted a new feed from the fuse bax, halfway round the outside of the house, to the new double oven. The moment he switched it on a heterodyne was heard from the pc speakers and one inch deep horizontal lines scrolled up the screen.Sound files make no noise. On switching sound off, the heterodyne goes but the scrolling lines remain. On switching the new feed to the oven off, sound is restored, the heterodyne stops and the scrolling lines disappear.Any help would be gratefully received. The electrician is baffled.

Inform the electrician (Qualified ?), that you are bring in an indepent expert in and he will be charged for the cost as well as the cost of repair to your equipment. The oven shoud NOT run from the fuse box (13amp), but from it's own box (30 amp)to be legal.I have never heard of an electricial running live cable outside the house, unless it is 'Armoured cable', (which I doubt).I hope you have not paid him/her yet.Terry

Our Sharp Aquos TV has been connected to our PS3 for months now with no problems. We watched a blu-ray film on it recently and then my husband accessed the BD live function. Ever since then the PS3 menu has been jerkily scrolling vertically. It also does this on PS3 games and blu-ray films. However, it does not do it if you play a normal dvd. The problem does not appear to be the PS3 as it still works perfectly on a friends TV. Our TV appears to be fine when watching normal programmes. Anyone got any ideas?

After searching the forum, i have not been able to find any response from Lenovo as to how to correct this problem. Incidentally, my "occasional" vertical scrolling problem occurs in any browser,  IE7, Firefox3, Opera9 (at least those 3) as well as Windows applications with a vertical scroll bar like Windows Explorer. This only started to occur very randomly around 6 months ago.  But as of late it is occuring more often. The only work-aroundhttp://blog.jonschneider.com/2008/03/workaround-thinkpad-gets-into-always.html might indicate that it is a possible hardware problem. However, I have to say that I rarely use the laptop scrolling buttons and 99.9% of the time, latetly, I use a Logitech laser USB mouse for scrolling purposes. As another possible work-around (if you are using an external mouse) is to uncheck the enable virtual scrolling in the touchpad properties window. I certainly hope it is not a hardware problem, as the warranty on my T43 ran out a long time ago.btw, I am running Windows XP Pro XP3. Moderator Note; added system type to subject Message Edited by andyP on 07-27-2009 09:32 PM

I don't know about your particular mouse, however Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Centre shows that option for my Microsoft Comfort 6000 mouse. The version installed is 2.3.188.0 (64-bit), which I think is what automatically came through Windows Update when I clean installed Windows 10.

I also just installed 2.8.106.0 (64-bit) from their website and that's the same as the screenshot too.

This is the only app that I have issues with. Is there a registry hack that can help?

Just got my X1 Carbon in the mail. The first thing I noticed after booting it up is that the pointer responds way differenty to vertical swipes than it does to horizontal swipes. When I swipe horizontally, the pointer moves very slowly. When I swipe vertically, the pointer flies across the screen. It's already driving me nuts. I've been all through the touchpad settings as well as Google, but can't figure out how to fix this. Can any of you wonderful people point me in the right direction? I'm trying to find out if there is a way I can enable the ability to both scroll and middle click on the Twist. On my T420 I have "scrolling smooth" enabled under trackpoint properties (this setting doesn't exist on the Twist). When this is enabled a quick click of the middle button will open a link in a new tab, but pressing the middle button and moving the trackpoint allows me to scroll as expected. On the Twist, pressing the middle button only seems to bring up the scrolling prompt, and there seems to be no way to click.

Answer:Twist How to enable Scrolling and Middle Click (open in new tab)

I have the same question. I found a temporary work around by using the TPMiddle tool: http://users.v-lo.krakow.pl/~mwrobel/programs/tpmiddle.html I does work perfectly, but only until you restart the PC, so I had to manually add it to the startup. Hopefully there is an official way to do this

Hello! I want to make full use of the touchpad - but I can't scroll pages by dragging the finger at the right end of the touchpad. There is a folder in the D directory with small videos demonstrating different touchpad features. It's in:Lenovo D - Drivers - Touchpad - 11.4.31.1 - x64 Here I found the video demonstrating "continous edge scroll". There are several exe-files in this folder. By the way, I have the driver 11.4.31.1 installed. In mouse settings there are only very basic settings for the "Elan smart pad" .I didn't find any scroll settings. What may be the issue?

My touchpad has lost its scrolling functions since I upgraded to Windows 10, a year ago, and nothing I try can fix that.    I understand Windows comes with built-in drivers for mouse and touchpad, with the basic functions for the cursor. But that Synaptics drivers, with other functions like scrolling, are quickly downloaded and installed.   Well, in my case, it seems that these Synaptics drivers never take over, never get to actually control the touchpad: they seem correctly installed and activated, and I do check the scrolling functions all right; but the touchpad continues to behave as if it were still driven by the basic built-in drivers in Windows.   In fact sometimes I uninstall and totally delete the Synaptics drivers and make do with the basic Windows software; until the next automatic downloading of the useless Synaptics.   Thanks for any help.

Hi guys

I made a mistake and uninstalled the original driver for the mousepad, stupidly. Anyway, I was able to find the drivers to get it to work again. But I have a minor issue which I hope someone can help me fix.

I cant get the scrolling ability to work when you use the edges of the mousepad to scroll up and down or left and right. Is there something im missing which can get this to work or is it a lost cause.

Thank you

Answer:Can't use scrolling on touchpad

Hi

Can you also tell us what notebook and OS you have? This would be useful to write useful advices how to solve your problem.

Normally you can enable/disable the virtual scrolling function in Mouse settings. Therefore go in control panel > Mouse. Check the properties there and then you can enable/disable this function.

I bought this laptop only two days ago and I cannot get the touchpad to do page scrolling. I have enabled scrolling in the mouse settings within control panel, but it's still not working. I downloaded the latest driver from the lenovo website and still nothing. The touchpad does all the other motion controls. Any help is appreciated!

Answer:G50-70 touchpad not scrolling

You have installed latest Synaptic touchpad driver from website and you are still facing an issue in page scrolling, then you can try changing the settings of the One/ Two Finger Scrolling feature (located under Mouse Properties). Try below steps to resolve the issue:1. In Mouse Properties window as seen below, choose Device Settings.2. Under Device Settings, select Settings.3. You can customize the scrolling behavior of your mouse by checking the relevant boxes under Scrolling.4. You can opt to enable vertical and/or horizontal scrolling according to your preference.5. Click on OK to apply the changes.

Hi

My A200 told me that I needed to update the drivers for my touchpad. I did so and now I can't use the vertical scroll feature. I have looked on the Synaptic website and there is nothing there to help. I have checked to see if I have the most up to date drivers and I do, and I have looked through the mouse settings and can't find anything that will help.

Can anyone please help me?

Why you don?t try to roll back the OS to the early time point?
I mean the OS point before you have installed the touchpad driver?

Usually this should helps to get back the early touchpad functions?.

I have found the Synaptics Touchpad vertical scrolling works, then stops as I browse around inChrome and some other programs.  It's very erratic.  The mouse movements themselves withthe touchpad are fine, it's just the two finger scrolling I'm talking about here.Very frustrating as it works fine on one page, then go somewhere else and it stops, then gosomewhere different and it's working...driving me nuts! This has all the latest drivers on Windows 8 and latest version of Chrome.  Has anybody everseen this?  I have most of the multi-finger gestures turned on and use them - or at least try touse them.

To eneble scrolling in vmware guest mechines we can install TwoFingerScroll application for windows pc from the below link

It will enable the scrolling with touchpad in VMware.First download the zip file and extract it.Then run the TwoFingerScroll.exe once, then check the right corner of the taskbar,if it does not appears there then check the hidden icons there. Now double click that icon and change the settings as you want. You may turn off the scrolling feature of your default touch pad application.
According to my tests to get most out of it we should turn off the acceleration, set the speed to its full limit, and set the scroll mode to compatible.

This seems like a simple problem that can be easily fixed by maybe turning on some sort of setting. On my laptop, for some reason, the scroll function just stopped working. The mouse still works fine, by i can't scroll with it. I don't know if maybe it got turned off somehow?? I am running windows Vista and went into control panel>hardware and sound>mouse, but didn't see anything in there that could fix this. Anyone know why my scroll just stopped working, and how i can fix it? thanks.

I have a new XPS 15 9560 laptop with a precision touchpad (Microsoft drivers) running Windows 10 (1703, 64-bit). The touchpad generally works fine, but with two-finger scrolling sometimes I experience a 0.5 s lag OR the pad interprets the gesture as a pointer move (although I definitely use 2 fingers). The behavior is seemingly random, but it occurs quite often.I disabled "pinch to zoom" in settings. I also tried increasing the touchpad sensitivity in settings and reducing the APPThreshold in the registry to 0 (Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PrecisionTouchPad), but this didn't help.Does anyone have an idea how to fix this? Many thanks,Geert

I have a DELL XPS M1530 laptop that I just installed a full version of Windows 7. It had Windows Vista on it before. It is a replacement computer for my old DELL (same model) that was having issues.

I usually hook up a bluetooth mouse when I use my computer, but I just noticed last night when I was using the touchpad instead, is that it does not scroll up and down, or left to right. The mouse part of the touchpad works fine, as does the left and right buttons.

I am assuming the scrolling is just turned off on this computer (thinking simply first ... hoping it is not a serious issue). But I cannot find where to check to see if it needs to be turned back on.

Any suggestions?

Purchased a HP ze4930us notebook last week. Have been having minor problems with the scrolling option on the touchpad, the thing on the right side of the touchpad that lets you easily scroll up and down web pages and other things. Sometimes it doesn't work.

Under one scenario, I will have to click on the webpage somewhere to get it to work. But the webpage is already selected even before I do this, because I am able to scroll the manual way, using the up and down arrows, or the page up and page down arrows. Why do I have to click somewhere on the webpage when it is already selected?

Under another scenario, the scrolling option won't even work even when I do click somewhere on the webpage. I am able to do everything else though, like scroll by using the arrows or page up and down arrows. The only way I can get the touchpad scrolling to work on the page is to either minimize the page I want to use the scrolling, and then maximize it again, or open, or make another window prominent, window, and then go back to the window that I want to do the scrolling. This works as well.

Usually, though, I do not have any problems with the scrolling on the touchpad.

Answer:problems with scrolling when using touchpad

I have a new ZV5000 and the scroll, while not as bad as you describe IS less sensitive than the one on my older ZT1170.

I'm not sure if it is because of the ridges on the new one or not? There are some adjustments under the Control Panel/Mouse screens that may help you?

Under "Tapping" I set the touch sensitivity to HIGH and that has helped me.

Other things I have noticed is that if there is a Window WITHIN a window, such as on the Forum's POST section, the scrolling function is specific to where the cursor is positioned....NOT the Pointer.

The same is true for Websites that use "Frames".

But the thing that STILL drives me nuts is the autoscrolling at the top and bottom of the scroll line on the touchpad!!! I always hit the spot and scroll PAST where I want to be. I have been training myself to lift my finger off the pad at the end of a scroll stroke.

I have an OmniBook XE3 using XP pro, and am having problems with the touchpad automatically scrolling up and down when my cursor is not on the scrolling bar. This tends to happen quite frequently after I have carried out some scrolling, then released the click button and moved my cursor into the body of the text/page. It is quite irritating and I would welcome any advice on how I might stop this happening.

Answer:Touchpad scrolling problems

Not exactly surewhat is happening but you need to look at the touchpad utility which would be preloaded onto the system. With this you alter the behaviour of the touchpad e.g. speed of scrolling, double click speed etc. It`ll be in the start>programs list perhaps called "synaptics". Usually the right hand side of the touchpad area can be used to scroll up and down and the bottom left and right. If it`s a small pad this can be irritating.Similarly the touchpad may "lock" the scoll feature when you click the left button which is useful if you hae a long document but again irritating if you don`t!Havea readon thehelp file associated with your device. I`msure you can disable some of these features.

If any of you have had trouble with your laptop's scrolling touchpad you can now get a suitable driver from the good guys at Dell , it doesn't matter whether you are using a Dell machine at all , I'm using this driver on a Fujitsu Siemens v2010 , albeit an updated one with a Pentium M 1.5ghz , 1GB ram and an 80GB 8mb cache hard drive , and it works excellently , I think this should work for the Synaptics pad as well as the almost standard Alps Glide Pad . click here for the driver . After I installed Windows 7 (couldn't upgrade, had to do a custom install), the scrolling on the right side of my touchpad stopped working. I downloaded a new driver, but it still doesn't work.

When I go into the Synaptics device settings, it says that I have a "Standard Pointing Device" and when I look at the settings it only gives me options for two buttons (no scrolling options). I attached a picture of the options window I'm talking about.

Can anybody help?

My computer is an hp pavilion dv2000.

Answer:Touchpad Scrolling Problem

I too have the exact same issue. I have reinstalled my driver, and it still only ever shows that my touchpad is a "Standard Pointing Device", and I can no longer use my scroll function on my toughpad, super annoying. I am running an HP dv2915nr

Any suggestions anyone?

I've never in my life owned laptop that had such limited touchpad function settings!  Does anyone have a reg or driver hack to enable uninverted touchpad scrolling?  Other than not having this one setting, this laptop is great.

The driver is updated, the touchpad works normally most of the time, but from time to time (quite often) the vertical scroll (the bar on the right side of touchpad) stops reacting and it's impossible to scroll vertically. After a while it reactivates again and works normally again...

What's the issue?

Who knows why this happen? :)
It will be nice to have answer to such ?periodical? issues.

Have you tried to play a little bit with Virtual Scrolling settings?
Try to change scrolling region. Try to expand it a little bit.

After my kid played with some buttons on my new Surface Laptop, Sleep Mode now comes on anytime I do the two-finger scroll option with the touchpad. I looked in Power options under Control Panel, but don't see a way to fix this?? It doesn't do it if you slowly and gently scroll with two fingers, but if you do it with any speed or do where you "fling" the page up and down, it does. It also does it with the touch screen. Can touch screen and move page up down slowly, but try with any speed, and turns off into sleep mode. Help!

Hey all, I just got a new computer with windows 10 on it. It is a... HP N5Y05UA#ABA and I cannot get the scrolling option for the touchpad to stay enabled, every time the computer is rebooted or shut down, I must go back into the settings and re-enable it. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Removing the driver/trying to update it does not fix it either.

sorry if this question has already been asked, didnt find an answer in the other threads. so when scrolling anything, up and down, if i click and hold to scroll, when i let go the touchpad retains control of the scrolling and moving the touch pad up and down instead of moving cursor moves the page up and down until i click again to disable scrolling.i find this extremely annoying and nothing i changed in hardware>mouse>touchpad>settings seemed to fix the problem.  has anyone else successfully disabled this feature?

I'm using Vista Home Basic on a Compaq Presario laptop (refurbished) which I bought in Jan '08 (roughly). I have installed all updates (except Siverlight, whatever that is) provided by the automatic update facility.

Here's my problem: periodically the scroll function stops working. I think it happens most often after going to media-rich sites like MSNBC and watching a video.

It's not a "help me now or I'll shoot the computer" kind of thing, but it's very annoying. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

I'm NOT very technically savy (more the intellectual type, which is to say dumb about computers) and otherwise, Vista is working quite well (after installing an additional 1.5 gigs of RAM). I'm very, very reluctant to do anything which might crash Vista, and we intellectual types have a very hard time figuring out that stuff.

I have some problems with scrolling by using touchpad. In some applications, such as Mozilla Thunderbird, the touchpad scrolling doesn't work at all! If I contact by finger the right part of the touchpad in Thunderbird, I see the scrolling label on the screen, but no scrolling occurs. What's the problem??? In Opera I need to click on the browser page in order to 'activate' the touchpad scrolling, and it irritates also, cause in IE I don't have such problems: I just lunch the explorer and scrolling works from the beginning... How to fix this??

Answer:M45 S351 problems with scrolling by using touchpad

Fix for this is not known to me but fact is that unit is tested just with Microsoft products (?Designed for Microsoft WXP? label on the unit) and not with other third part software. This function is not only one example. There are many of them. Please don?t see this as problem.

On this way I will not say that you MUST use just preinstalled stuff but there are many things that you must live with.

Maybe some other user knows more about that.

Bye

Hi everyone, I just received my spectre x380 model 13-4110dx. After spending months researching laptops I settled on the spectre and had it shipped all the way from the US to little Bangladesh here. Needless to say, issues popped up as soon as I turned on the thing, so here goes:TOUCHPAD:This is the big one. I am used to having the page move down with my fingers while two-finger scrolling, but the scrolling direction is reversed by default with coasting enabled. However, when turned off reverse scrolling and coasting in the synaptics settings it seems to work on some applications and not anothers. I tried resetting the computer and reinstalling the driver software AND I also tried installing the latest drivers from the synaptics website. Nothing's working so farHEAT:The bottom tends to run very hot even with normal web browsing, so much so that I can't place the thing on my lap for very long. I setup the fan to run always from the BIOS, but its still the same. At this temperatures I'm not sure how long the hardware is going to hold out Sorry for the long post, I'm really hoping you guys can help me figure things out
