Reverting to IDE from AHCI with Samsung SSD

Question: Reverting to IDE from AHCI with Samsung SSD

So I am needing some assistance with my SSD. I installed a Samsung 840 EVO ssd into my windows machine last month. The performance had been nothing short of amazing but when I clocked the startup time with Windows 7 Pro 64-bit, I thought 30 seconds was a little long for a ssd.

I started playing around with improving the startup time last night but I think I've made things worse. After doing some Googleing last night, I found that I should have switched my BIOS and sata controller to AHCI instead of IDE. I tried switching the controller to AHCI and restated my computer. I quickly found that this was causing BSOD for whatever reason. I then reverted the bios back to IDE.

I ended up running a hot fix from Microsoft that allowed me to switch from IDE to AHCI. This worked...kind of. I restarted my computer and found that Windows was installing a number of different drivers, including ATA controllers and for the Samsung ssd. Most of the driver installs failed for some reason but now here is where my problem stands...

I can start windows just fine. It loads and all of my programs fire right up. But now, my Samsung ssd is being read as just a hard drive on my computer, instead of the primary hard drive. The windows flag that is usually assigned to the primary drive is no longer showing on the drive either.

I also now have a blank removable device that I can't remove. It's reading as H:. There is nothing on the device and it's showing as having all of its space being used. I can't access this device and I can't eject it either.

I tried restoring windows to an earlier restore point with the hope that would undo all of the changes that I had made but no changes were applied.

How can I revert windows back to how I had my primary drive setup prior to doing all of this?

Preferred Solution: Reverting to IDE from AHCI with Samsung SSD

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Reverting to IDE from AHCI with Samsung SSD

If it was me, I wouldn't trust my current install with all the mucking around that was done. I'd end up just doing a clean install with the drive controller set to AHCI. In the time it would take to try potential solutions, you can fix it for good.

Hi all,

I am trying to troubleshoot a problem I'm seeing whilst trying to access a removeable CF-SATA card reader using Intel PCH SATA AHCI drivers.

My OS was setup with the BIOS set to AHCI and the regisrty confirms me having AHCI drivers enabled.

How to I revert to the MS drivers from the current Intel ones? If I look in "Driver Details" under Device manager, the "Roll back driver" is greyed out. Is it simply a matter of Uninstalling the driver and allowing Win to build the default one at next boot or would that be asking for all sorts of trouble!?

Any help gratefully received...

Answer:Reverting to MS AHCI driver?

I am not very knowledge in this area, so any advice will be at your own risk. I say this because if your OS is installed under AHCI, it will not boot without it. However go into device manager and find your ahci driver. it will probably be located under IDE ATA/Atapi controllers. right click it and go to the drivers tab. Click on update drivers button. It will ask whether to look on the internet or on your computer. Choose look on your computer. Then choose 'let me pick the driver'. I think you will find your drivers in C:/windows/system32/drivers. Choose the driver named msahci. this should change the controller back to the windows controller for ahci. You will probably have to reboot (that is where the fun begins) When windows begins to load up, you should see a baloon saying windows is loading drivers. If you see that it will probably work. If at any time before you choose the msachi driver you change your mind you will have the opportunity to push cancel and will have therefore done nothing. That is what I would try. what you choose is up to you.

Hi guys, Just a question.Magician software displays that my SSD is not configured to be with an AHCI mode access andcan't display SATA interface details. I think all drivers are OK and up to date. Because I think now on T460p, only this access (AHCI) is available and My SSD is connected to SATA, I'm facingto a problem on SAMSUNG Magician software. Am I'm wrong or right ?   How can I check that with a different method ? Thank you

Hi
After a few tests, I have discovered that I am only getting read speeds of 650 and write speeds of 300 using Crystal Disk - with the data at default and 0 fill.  Should the read speed not be in the region of 1500?
I believe it's using the standard windows 10 driver.
I see in the BIOS that it's in RAID mode.  Could I simply change this to AHCI without affect the current installation?  Would this increase the speed?
Is there anything else I haven't taken into account?

Thanks

Answer:Lenovo G580 Pentium B960+Samsung 840 ssd=can't run in AHCI mode

hi psc2350,

You're probably running Windows in compatibility mode. If you're running on a preloaded Windows 8, can try to boot into the BIOS using the UEFI Firmware Settings.

If verified that you're in compatibility mode, follow this guide on how to change it to AHCI. In some cases, you also need to change the startoverride entry to 0 for it to work.

Note:
Ensure you create a recovery drive first and have all of your data backed up before trying the fix above.

Hope this helps

Hi.

I have the GA-EX58-Extreme Board and have just installed the pre release of Win7 7600 64 bit. Normally i have experience to get the BSOD when in staling with AHCI active in bios so i change to IDE mode. Installation went flawless and also the change to AHCI mode on Intel ICH10R controler went normal. As always i got problem to change the J micron controller to AHCI and of cause i got the BSOD again. I installed the latest R1.17.48.16 driver and tryed again but no luck. Can some tell me what i am doing wrong. ? I have a hardisk and a dvd drive attached to the J micron Sata connection.

Answer:Intel Sata controler ICH10R AHCI + Jmicron AHCI error

You may not be doing anything wrong...or at least, you're doing the same wrong thing that I am. I've never been able to get that jMicron deleted to work in AHCI mode.

So, I hang the optical drive and the port for the e-SATA connection to the external backup drive off it and run it in IDE mode.

see second post.

I have a 3TB drive D: for data formatted with GPT.

Had BIOS OnChip SATA Type set as "RAID" "As SATA Type" from back in the day. When I took out the RAID, I forgot to change this to AHCI when I reformatted and got rid of RAID drives!

Changing to "AHCI" "As SATA Type" as shown in image in second post, causes Windows 7 x64 to lose / not see the GPT on my drive D: and it wants to "initialize" it as MBR or GPT-- no way!!

Answer:cloned C:, installed AHCI drivers, changed BIOS to AHCI, D:'s GPT gone

ok, returning to BIOS and setting back to RAID, as AHCI typeenabled me to view the drive D: again
C: drive seems to be running much more slowly again.
these drives are plugged into the OnChip SATAWith AHCI as SATA typeno drive D:

With RAID as SATA typehave drive D:
but C: definitely dog-tired-slow
I really should not have fiddled with this at 3AM on a Sunday morning!!! Bah, I'm a pro, what could go wrong???

I'm not sure why changing to AHCI causes windows to miss the GPT on the D: drive.
Can I back this GPT up and restore it? Detect it after changing to AHCI? this is my only large drive, I can't back up the entire fricking thing.

The other question this makes me ask is how do I keep my GPT when I move to another motherboard? I don't trust the GPT like I do MBR hm....

edit: changing back again, it does not seem any faster. Doing more reading, it's ok to leave it as RAID because AHCI functions are still available no? So I really shouldn't gain/lose any performance?

I bought a brand new SSD, installed it in Windows 7, and there is no option in my BIOS for the SATA controller (to switch between IDE and AHCI Mode). How do I determine whether my computer's sata controller is using IDE or AHCI?

Samsung updated my Tab2 7 and now Adobe Flash which i had installed and working previously will not play web downloads. I have updated to the latest Flash player for Android from version 11.1.115.36 to 11.1.115.69 but this has made no difference. I have also checked for solutions on web and installed several browser plugins suggested but these don't seem to work. Unfortunately I use my Tab for a study course which has video content which I now cannot use. Has anybody else had this problem and if so found a solution?

Answer:Samsung Tab2 Flash player stopped working after samsung software update

I don't use Android any more but my understanding is that Flash is no longer supported by Android. Your course designers should be moving away from Flash. I assume from your post that you have tried this installation. If that doesn't work then I'm sorry but I'm stuck. If the course is viewed using the browser then you could try Puffin browser see Flash on Android

Problems on initializing Samsung 80GB with Samsung's Disk Manager: Ontrack(tm)

Hi!

There is some problem on my 80gb Samsung HD. The situation is this:

I have had an old computer which have an ancient motherboard.. because of the limitations of motherboard it was initializing Hd as 8gb.. I installed Samsung's Disk Manager program named Ontrack. It does something with the MBR to make the 8gb initialized HD as 80gb! When you're in bios setup, it says your samsung is 8gb but when you reset and wait for the system disk error message Ontrack activates and then your hd is 80 gb, you can install OS after that.

Here is the problem: I bought a new computer whose motherboard to initialize my 80GB hd as 80GB also, but things didn't happen like that. On bios setup it says my HD is 33gb.

I plugged the HD to my other computer and its partition magic 8 says "33gb BAD" also..

A modified MBR by a program (ontrack) can fool bios setup? if so, can i use XP CDs system recovery console with fixmbr command? ?f it is not how can i make my hd back to normal (not for old motherboards, initialized as 80GB)??

New motherboard is MSI RS482M2-IL and because of this problem I cannot enable S.M.A.R.T. feature. I need help and thanks from now on!

So I've done a little homework and have decided to purchase the new Samsung 128GB SSD and upgrade the 64GB SSD currently on my x300.  I want to image the existing hard drive and copy it in totality to the new hard drive via either Rescue and Recovery or Windows Vista Complete PC Backup (preferably the latter), then swap the drives to restore as I run a ton of application software and it takes me days to get everything installed and configured. With R&R I can't get that pig to run either under Windows or at boot from theThinkVantage button, always getting "Unable to copy file" error messages with "Access is denied." Windows Vista Complete PC Backup blows chunks with "Windows could not find backup devices on your computer.  The following information might explain why this problem occurred:  Catastrophic failure (0x80000FFFF) Please close the backup application and try again." I have an external Western Digital 750GB My Book USB with plenty of space and have successfully created an R&R startup disc.  If things get ugly I'm begrudgingly okay with re-installing all my apps (Office, Rational Application Developer, MS Visual Studio, SQL Server, etc., etc., etc.), but I'd rather not if I dont' have to and I DON'T want to lose the OEM install of Vista on the HD as I do not have my own media for that, though I do have a copy of the SWTOOLS directory off the root of the SSD for everything else, plus all my application software. Any advice appre... Just for comparison, here is my own P70 with 2 x 512GB 950 Pro (non-RAID) NVMe and also with 850 Pro SSD.

(1) Timings for NVMe0 (non-RAID):

(2) Timings for 850 Pro SSD

(3) Just wanted to point out that Samsung Magician supports "rapid mode" for one SSD (even if more than one SSD is present).  And it does not support "rapid mode" for NVMe.  But that means it could support "rapid mode" for the 850 Pro in my machine, and in fact I have enabled "rapid mode" for my 850 Pro.

Rapid mode utilizes unused and thus available RAM in the machine as a cache for the SSD, improving benchmark numbers dramatically.

Here are the numbers for my 850 Pro with "rapid mode" enabled.

I have a Samsung SSD that I recently formatted and installed Windows 7 64 bit on. I tried to use Samsung Magician software but it tells me that "Magician cannot communicate with the below Samsung SSD. Please check with other compatible storage drivers and try again. 1. Samsung SSD 840 EVO (etc)"

Upon some investigation, it appears this is because the SSD is listed as SCSI in device manager. I was wondering if there were any way to fix this so that the Samsung Magician software can communicate with the SSD

Answer:Samsung SSD listed as SCSI; Samsung Magician not working

HI

What Motherboard make and model are you using and what controller do you have the SSD plugged into as if its the Marvell (JMicron ones can also cause this) controller then that maybe your issue as at times the Marvell controller will list in Windows a SATA drive as SCSI, pita!!

So if you can swap the SSD into a Intel controller then that should fix the issue, just make sure that the drive is listed in the BIOS and as 1st boot device.

Are you running in the BIOS RAID Mode and if so that could also be a source of the issue. Really need to be if not running RAID to be in ACHI mode in the BIOS.

Trying to install Samsung SmarThru office V2 for my printer/scanner, but Windows 10 reports the signer of the executable is not trusted, I downloaded from the Samsung website and the signer is shown as Samsung.

There seems to be no way to bypass this, anyone have a clue whats going on?

Answer:Samsung SmarThru Office v2 - Samsung not trusted as a signer

Scalextrix said:

So it means you tried advanced startup setting to enable installing of unsigned drivers?
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/i...336d248?auth=1

Because for me SmartThru 4 installs fine, (all Win10 updates installed), but ->
* I can't install old print driver (says hash file missing, maybe tampred or corrupt).
* I can install universal print driver & scan driver
* After opening, ST4 is unable to recognize scanner.

I have both Linux and Windows Vista installed on my notebook. Today when I turned it on I accidentally chose "Samsung Recovery" instead of "Windows Vista" in GRUB. After Samsung Recovery has loaded, I quit it and the computer shut off. I turned it on again and now it doesn't make it to the GRUB, it shows the Samsung logo, then "boot from ahci cd-rom", and then it reboots and shows the samsung logo again. I can enter BIOS (F2), but can't enter Samsung Recovery (F4) anymore (after showing "please wait..." the computer reboots again). I tried setting the BIOS back to default but it didn't help. Any input would be much appreciated...

In this discussion, Amy from Lenovo recommends that we purchase Lenovo SSDs if we want thermal management: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/Can-I-add-a-Samsung-950-Pro-NVMe-SSD-to-... The link no longer directs us to a particular model. So I perform a search on the Lenovo site and see (among others) this model: ThinkPad 256GB SAMSUNG PCIe NVME TLC OPAL M.2 SSD http://www3.lenovo.com/us/en/accessories-and-monitors/memory-and-storage/storage/HDD-BO-ThinkPad-M-2... What is this? A Samsung SSD rebranded as a Lenovo SSD? Would I gain in compatibility with such a drive or not, and specifically regarding thermal management? Also, is there a misprint below concerning the read speed? "ThinkPad 256GB SAMSUNG PCIe NVME TLC OPAL M.2 SSD supporting PCIe 3.0 interface standard up to 4 lanes shows much faster performance than previous SATA SSDs. It's sequential performance is up to 300MB/s for read operation and 1700MB/s for write operation by 4 lanes. Test-Prove 100% Compatible with ThinkPad machines. " That has to be 3000MB/S, right?

Answer:Thinkpad-Samsung or Lenovo-Samsung NVMe SSD? What is this?

My impression is that even Lenovo themselves does not have a clue.

I quite fancy one of these BDD5500s as it states that you can get BBC I-player and others through it. However it says that it's wifi ready and that you can buy a wifi dongle for about 45. With Sky my free broadband only allows me 2gbs of download a month which is normally ok for me but -player etc., uses up too much so I don't want to use my Sky broadband wifi for this player.
I don't really understand how a Samsung wifi dongle works as far as subscriptions are concerned. Is a one off purchase sufficient or is there a monthly subscription required to some provider?
Thirdly does a 3d blue ray player work fine with an ordinary HD Samsung TV?

Answer:samsung tv and samsung bdd5500 smart hub player

A wifi dongle gets its data from a wireless network. You have to pay at some sites eg hotels to get access to their network. In the home it would be free. I don't think that there would be a subscription otherwise. But I note your download limit and I think that it would be using your Sky broadband.
No idea about the 3D. Suggest you enquire in a showroom.
ps 3G dongles have a subscription.

CLONE FAIL FAIL FAIL

So I have a Haswell i7 rig (GTX 780) with Platinum PSU etc etc... W8.1 Pro (and a few other W8.1 PC`s I tried the clone op with also)........

.... and on the SSD to clone in question, it is a Samsung EVO 250Gb SSD. It seems to work perfect.
But its getting near full~ish.... (30Gb spare)....

... so I bought a Samsung EVO VNAND 500Gb.... (twice the capacity) and thought an easy clone was in store....

(I also have some additional drives I have just disconnected for the Clone op [as the Samsung clone software was being stupid [trying to get me to clone my documents drive to my new SSD]). With or without the other drives connected, it FAILS, FAILS, FAILS.

So; when I try to clone, It gets to about 33% cloned, and then fails.
Time after time.

Recent ERROR MESSAGE is:- "Failed to retrieve source information 205500(0322bc)"

I tried to clone the SSD to SSD on a CLONE machine/Box. A FAIL
I tried to clone using Macrium Reflect. A FAIL
I tried to clone using EASEUS. A FAIL.
I tried them all a few times including the SAMSUNG CLONE Software.
FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL FAIL

What am I doing wrong?

Is there a problem with the 250Gb SSD I don`t know about (I am using this PC with it in now)...

Or will a SAMSUNG EVO not clone to a SAMSUNG VNAND ?

Do I have to try everything including disabling features such as RAPID MODE? And Disable Performance and everything?

Or what???

I have been a dozen hours trying to do this simple task.

P.S.

After installing Samsung Touch Supporter on my non-samsung PC,I get this:

"This Program only runs on a Samsung PC.
Program will terminate."

I try to use some of the software that came with the Samsung Series 7 PC.
I will not let me open the program.
I have an Archos 9 PC and would like to use it.

Can anyone make it so that I can install this software on any other PC?
Sometimes it's a simple edit, can anyone look in to this?

Software can be downloaded from the Samsung website here(it's under manuals & downloads/software):
Support - Tablet PCs XE700T1A | Samsung Tablet PCs

May you please attempt to fix Play Touch App (Software) (ver.1.0.0.33),Play Touch Luancher (Software) (ver.1.2.0.32), and Touch Supporter (Software) (ver.1.2.0.10)

Note: Play Touch Laucher says the same message as above, but still manages to open, Touch Supporter does not though

Answer:Samsung Series 7 software on non-Samsung PC.

That software is only licensed to use on the Samsung PC it came on, so I don't know why you would expect it to work on any other PC.

Samsung is also the most difficult model to get the OEM software to work after a Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 which is entirely legal and recommended for most users of preinstalled Windows to get the best Win7 performance.

But for Samsung it's especially important to back up the Recovery Image and make a secondary Win7 backup image so that if any features are missing after Clean Reinstall and the Samsung software won't work correctly, you can set it back to factory condition.

Hello Friends.  I successfully installed a Samsung 950 Pro M.2 SSD as a boot drive just fine.  However, it looks like the Windows 10 NVME driver is being used in place of the Samsung NVME driver.  I saw this post here where it says: "Windows is indicating it is using the NVMe driver for this drive." https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Envy-750se-capable-of-M-2-NVMe-... However I do not know how to determine this myself.  I am using a utility called "AIDA64 Extreme" and it's telling me the driver provider for the 950 is Micrososft and the driver version is 10.0.14393.0.  So, how do I get the 950 to use the Samsung driver instead?  Thanks for any help.

Answer:How to tell if Samsung 950 Pro is using Samsung NVME driver ...

Hi, From Samsung tool (Samsung Magician), it shows my machine uses Samsung firmware, no information about driver. It uses Microsoft driver. The tool allows use to check and update firmware but not driver. Regards.

Hi,
I have a Haswell i7 PC with windows 8.1 running great. It has a Samsung EVO 250Gb SSD (30% free space); and I bought a Samsung V-Nand 500Gb SSD to clone to (via way of a failed attempt to clone to a Crucial M550 500Gb [which ended up in my olde XP PC])....
The problem is NO MIGRATION or Clone software will allow a copy of the existing hard drive to the new hard-drives.
Every program that tests Windows & SSD`s says my SSD is in great condition; except Samsung Migration clone; which cuts out after 35% of the clone /Migration process...
I have tried disconnecting my other Drives in the PC.
I have tried disabling RAPID Mode.
I have tried disabling some Windows Hibernation features etc...
But all to no avail.
I have tried other companies CLONE software such as EaseUS & Macrium etc.. It FAILED FAILED FAILED.
What am I doing wrong; as I have a complex set of programs and links to my other drives; so a compete re-install of Windows 8/8.1 to the larger drive is not a practical option...
SAMSUNG Migration software also prevents me Migrating the current 250Gb SSD to a standard hard-drive for a back-up copy.
ALSO; I bought a Clone-Drive-Box; and that FAILED FAILED FAILED to clone (even though I pre-formatted the 500Gb V-Nand SSD).
The Samsung V-Nand is working; as I put a fresh install of Windows 8.1 on it and it ran GREAT.
So BOTH Drives run great; but I cannot clone from the smaller one.
Anything I missed?
How can I CLONE it?

Answer:HELP: Samsung SSD to Samsung SSD Cloning Error

P.S.
Could it have anything to do with the Samsung EVO Regeneration software from a couple of months ago; the Samsung UPDATE to restore the performance of the Samsung EVO SSD`s ???
That was some strange thing, which changes the internal operation of the SSD (something to do with new algorithms) ....
Is it a SAMSUNG secret that it stops clone operations?

I have two Samsung NVMe 950 Pro (MZVKV512) that came preinstalled in a Lenovo ThinkPad P50 running Windows 10 x64. The Samsung Magician (latest v4.9.6) software does not detect the drives as Samsung Brand SSDs and therefore OS Optimization is unavailable (the only option is to run a benchmark). Samsung Magician supports this SSD as I can see users in other forums using the software on their systems (not necessarily Lenovo). I have also installed the Samsung NVMe Controller driver and this is showing in Device Manager. There are no system updates available and UEFI BIOS is up to date (version from the 4th May). Any ideas?

If not, how can I get around the problem without doing a clean reinstall of my system?ANY hints or tips please!Cheers.

Question: Reverting to IE8

I understand the admonitions, but I have a special need to revert the IE11 that comes with Windows10 back to IE8. We used to be able to do this fairly easily up through Windows 7 using a process of opening Windows Update, listing all updates, and removing those updates that involved IE. I don't see this process available in Windows 10.

Is anyone aware of a process I can use to revert IE11 to IE8? Or, will I have to go back to Windows 7 to get this done?

Thanks.

Answer:Reverting to IE8

In previous versions of Windows one could remove an IE update and they would revert to the original version. On my Win10 there is no update for IE11, it's listed in Control Panel, Programs and Features, Turn Windows features on or off. Removing the checkmark will turn it off but there's no other version of IE for it to revert back to. I'd have my doubts IE8 would even install on Win10, it was the last version available for WinXP and maybe WinVista. And Win7 may get the update to IE11 unless you refuse it, I have it without problems but mostly use Firefox and SeaMonkey unless some sites such as Microsoft won't work with anything other than IE.

What issue do you have that requires an older IE?

Download gparted. It's a open source, linux/livecd based hard drive management software. Tell it to format the hard drive and re-create the partition. If that doesn't work, something about your hardware is hosed.

Question: reverting back?

I downloaded the beta version of Microsoft Office Professional 2007 the other day and it seems to have upgraded my Office 2003 applications rather then installing 2007 seperately and leaving me the option of using either 2003 or the beta of 2007. The beta versions are very buggy from what I understand, so what happens if I want to go back to only having Office 2003. I don't have the actual 2003 software CD. The guy I bought the computer from never included it, so I hope that I don't have to go through and reinstall everything to get 2003 back the way it was before downloading Office 2007.

Thanks

However, given the problems I'm experiencing - Skype won't even connect - I think I'm going to revert to 8.1.

My question is...what happens then? Can I use WU to update to 10 again? And if that failed to work out again, can I revert again?

Answer:Reverting back to 8.1...

Hello LotsofErros,

When you go back to Windows 8.1...

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4...s-windows.html

.... you will be able to do a clean install of Windows 10 on the PC anytime you like afterwards since you had upgraded to Windows 10 on your activated 8.1 PC to register the free Windows 10 activation on the PC.

Can I reinstall Windows 10 on my computer after upgrading with free upgrade?

Once you’ve upgraded to Windows 10 using the free upgrade offer or Media Creation Tool on an activated Windows 7 or 8.1 PC, you will be able to reinstall, including a clean install, on the same device. You won’t need a product key for re-activations on the same hardware. If you make a meaningful change to your hardware, you may need to contact customer support to help with activation. You’ll also be able to create your own installation media like a USB drive or DVD, and use that to upgrade your device or reinstall after you’ve upgraded.

Hiya
I had a a nice GeForce Ti 500 that as old as it was worked pretty damn well with the low-profile games I played

I chucked in a HIS Radeon HD3650 512MB AGP and ive had nothing but crashes for the last few weeks so I decided to go back to my old card.

I took the new one out, and put in my old one, and tried to boot up, and the fan on the card did not spin at all and the computer did not boot. I tried using another card out of the cupboard and the same problem occured.

It seems that the computer will only boot up with my HD3650 now, almost as if it is locked to it.

Anyone know how I can fix this? do I need to reinstall my windows OS or my motherboard drivers?
thanks

Answer:Reverting to an old card

I would suggest go into safe mode and uninstall the Radeon.
Turn off the computer, remove the Radeon.
Put in the GeForce, turn on the computer and finish installing it.

I have just discovered that when reverting from windows10 to windows7 effects happen in my case my network and ethernet drivers were effected also when clicking on wifi I had no connections I tried a wired connection and could still not get online, I phoned my server up and he told me that when reverting down bad things can happen . I was absolutely amazed the only way I can think how this is happening is by the senior operating system leaving something on the hard drive to sabotage a person reverting to a lower operating system. Is this allowed? Maybe someone knows different I would like to hear.

Answer:when reverting from w10 to w7 there are effects

If you installed Windows 7, then you probably need to install drivers for your devices.
Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc, Right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager, any devices with Yellow flags need to have drivers installed.
What is the Make and Model# of your computer/motherboard?
On an Internet computer, Go to the Manufacturers Support/Download Drivers site, type in your Make and Model# or your Service tag # choose your version of Windows 7 (ie) 32bit or 64bit.
And download the Chipset driver, install this first, then the Ethernet LAN and WiFi network drivers and any other drivers you need from the Device Manager.
Save them to a USB Flash drive and install them on the troubled computer.

HI, I have a FX5500 EVGA card in my comp, and recently it started going to 8-bit and changing the resolution upon restarting the computer? Is this a software problem, or is my Video card bad??

Setup a Dell PC for a neighbour two yrs ago. He now reports that it tries to install updates, then says failed, reverting changes. I had this on a laptop some time ago, but nothing I've tried is curing this PC.
I've tried installing the updates one at a time; some install OK, some fail on the first click then work on the second, others (those that need a restart) install OK and others give the dreaded 'reverting'.
I've looked at the update history and it suddenly started causing problems over a year ago. Again, since then, a few have been OK (mainly updates to defender and malicious removal tool), but most have failed.
I've run the update repair tool which says it finds problems but makes no difference.
Any thoughts before I throw myself off the nearest bridge?

Answer:W8 Update Reverting Changes over and over

Go into Update History, double-click on a few of the failed updates and post the error code(s) here.

ok so..i know i shouldnt have even tried...but i did. i tried plexturbo 3. i wasnt using any previous version, but it sounded too good to be true. i made a restore point and installed. after instal and restart, my asrock drivers started going crazy, not loading and giving 'error' at start (yeah, whole message was error). so i thought sth is wrong. i uninstalled plexturbo, restarted then...boom. diagnosis tool, repair tool..info that system couldnt launch properly, anotehr restart and...im in the same place as i was before restart. plexturbo is there, asrock error too. i tried uninstall again, after restart diagnosis/repair/bad launch again. this time i log into system and plexturbo is gone. tho chrome doesnt work. i restart, it starts checkdisk itself..gets to 9% and restart. then its loop with diagnosis again. i cant pick my restore point anywhere, i see empty list. in win7 i wouldve jsut picked 'last good known config' and itd do the trick. however ms decided to drop this option...
any idea how to boot normally into system? why it starts diagnosis when i boot pc (after which im kicked into corrupted system, restored from before reboot - it doesnt even ask me to go back to that point). i cant run chkdsk, as it asks me to reboot (then it gets to 9% and restart by itself without any info), i cant restore..luckily i can access all my data, most important ones i copied already to external drive but wonder if i can save this system somehow, or do i have to perform clean install? ... Using new Dell Vostro with Windows 7:

I recently downloaded the latest version of FireFox. Prior to that, my system stayed up unless I chose to close it but now, when I'm away for a while the system is reverting back to having me enter the PW. Once the PW is entered I'm taken right back to where I left off.

In other words, the system is not shutting down, it's just recognizing that I'm away and going to this "enter PW" thing before I can get back on line. Is this a Windows thing going on or a FireFox function?

Thanks

Answer:Reverting to PW input

check the screensaver password resume option to make sure it isn't checked. Screen Saver Password Protection -Enable or Disable
The second involves going into power options in the control panel.
on balanced click change plan settings
then change advanced settings
There will be a setting there that says require a password on wake, make sure that is disabled then ok out of the windows.Password - Require on Wakeup

I made a big mistake by updating to XP SP2.
Is there a way to go back to SP1...

Answer:Reverting Back to SP1...

You can go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall SP2. I would then go to system restore and restore to a point before you installed SP2. There should be a point named SP2 install or something like this.

Hi all,
I previously had Windows 8.1 and installed Windows 7 off a bootable USB.

Now if I want to reinstall Windows 8.1 using another bootable USB, is that possible? Will I need my product key or will Windows 8 automatically recognize my product key which should be in the BIOS?
The problem is that, did installing Windows 7 over Windows 8.1 erase any memory of product key.

Thank you.

I tried - I used it for over two months but Windows 8 just isn't a good desktop experience for me. It had features I liked, the task manager is fantastic and it was a solid OS in general. However, the lack of proper Multi-monitor support from NV within Windows 8 just wore me down. Specifically with 3 monitors you either have 3 separate logical screens without SLI or you have one massive logical screen with SLI. There is no native way to maximize without the window covering all 3 screens without using something like Matrox PowerDesk which is still not 100%. NV claims that thier drivers interact with the Aero to get multi-screens working properly in 7 but that doesn't exist in 8 hense the failure to work properly.

On top of which the just plain square and garrish look of 8 windows I do not miss at all. If 8 had areo I wouldn't have gone back but alas maybe NV will get their drivers fixed eventually. Here is to hoping Windows 9 gets past the (self inflicted) Fugly asthetic growing pains of Windows 8.

Answer:Reverting to W7 after two months with W8

So the "Confine maximized window to one screen" option in the NV Control panel doesn't work in 8? I've not yet upgraded or tested my sig rig with Windows 8 because I have heard of issues with using Surround and it is one of the things that does need improving in 8. What about using independent monitors while on the desktop and switching to Surround for gaming?

Hi Everyone,
I have Windows 10 on another machine, with several programs which I can't risk losing, but would like to revert to Windows 7. When I start the process it seems to imply that all non Microsoft programs will be lost, although they were on 7 before upgrading.
Does anyone know, from personal experience, what will happen? Can I get my lovely Windows 7 with all of it's bells and whistles back?
here's hoping, Ridgewayranger

i had accidentally clicked on a .bin file and it asked me what i would like to open it with. not knowing what to do, i clicked Internet Explorer. Nothing happened and now, all the .bin files in my computer have changed so that they only open with IE, which i feel may cause problems in the future. Can someone please tell me 1) how to revert them back to normal and 2) how to open .bin files?

Answer:help reverting files

.bin files can be any of various file types and there is no program specifically for opening them. A .bin file may even be from an Apple computer.

Go to the Control Panel, Folder Options and look under the file-types tab. Find the .bin extension and delete it. That will remove the association with IE.

In order to use the .bin file, we need to know more about it. If it is supposed to be a CD image, you are missing the .cue file that goes with it. Where did the .bin file come from?

I replaced the CPU in computer A. When I started up again in Win2000 I got the dreaded blue screen of HDD death. Ditto when trying to reinstall Win2000.
I took the HDD out to computerB which initially would not read it but when I changed it to a simple dynamic volume it works fine and I can use the programs on it.

How can I get it back to a working bootable position?
I have the win 2000 CD Ghost and another HDD to transfer if needed.

OK, I have a weird one. I followed Firefox 4 through the betas, which meant that I had Firefox 3 installed concurrently. Recently, I tried to do a fresh install of Firefox 4 (after removing the betas). First, I tried it as an upgrade. Then I tried uninstalling FF3 and then installing 4. Each time it would successfully install 4, work for a bit (either until I closed it or restarted I am not sure which). Then upon running firefox, it would give me a warning about a restart being needed to completely an upgrade. If I restart the computer, FF4 is no longer installed, having been replaced by the most current version of firefox 3).

I have checked the folder and the only things left are the plugins folder and one other folder (don't remember the name).

Anyone have any clue on what is causing this?

Answer:Firefox 4 keeps reverting to FF 3.6.17

I've no idea what would make it do that. That is very weird, does it ever say what the update is? You should go here tomorrow if someone else doesn't know of anything that could help you out. Or just file a report or something or other for it.

This is no doubt a dumb question, but l started with W7 Ultimate with IE8 installed and upgraded to IE9 which l just couldn't get along with, so reverted back to IE8 and am now quite happy.
Now my friend is buying a new laptop (having used XP and IE7 - yes l know!) and it is going to be somewhat of a culture shock when they see the new layout.
This will obviously come with IE9 pre-installed, but if they don't like it, surely they can't just revert back to IE8 like l did. How would they go about installing IE8 if they so wished?
Thanks

Answer:Reverting to IE8 from an IE9 only installed laptop

Have a look at this Microsoft article: How do I install or uninstall Internet Explorer 9?

If that doesn't work, try this Microsoft Fix-it http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2579295

If all else fails, there are of course other browsers that your friend can try such as Chrome, Safari, Firefox etc. etc.

I have a 2 yr old HP Laptop that Came with Win 7 Home Premium.

Great. Good security, disability functions, etc.

I have looked everywhere for bootable ISO disks, but they didn't work.

The main problem is that I want to use Delphi 2.0 and other stuff that won't install on Win 7. I have created a partition/extended. The system, even with boot-disks, SEEMS not to allow it!

Is there good info. technical or otherwise that will let me.

1. Install my old Win ME on a seperate partition?
2. I have a boot manager, so not a problem.
3. If I install ME, will it overwrite Win7, and can this be avoided?
4. Free is great, but if I MUST PAY, what's the best software for this?

I have heard that it can be done.
