Portable 1TB WD Elements SE Un-allocated, Not Initialized & Unknown

Question: Portable 1TB WD Elements SE Un-allocated, Not Initialized & Unknown

Hello,

My laptop's OS is 64 bit Win 7 Home Premium. I've been usng my Portable 1TB WD Elements SE external HDD for over 2 years. One fine day Win 7 displayed "Do you want to scan & fix removable drive G:" prompt. I check marked both subsequent boxes on the prompt and clicked Scan & Fix. After complete execution of the Scan & Fix (after 12 hrs approx) my Portable 1TB WD Elements SE was shown as Unallocated, Not Initialized & Unknown in the Disk Management and clicking on it windows explorer My Computer window showed the HDD with a Letter but on clicking it an error pop-up with text "Drive G: is inaccessible. Access Denied." was displayed. However, I can still see a "Safely Remove Hardware" icon that gives me a successfully removed hardware message.

I need to recover the data present on the Portable 1TB WD Elements SE external HDD.

So far I've tried Free Trial versions of RecoverMyFiles(Extended Scan), Stellar Phoenix Data Recovery(Extended Scan), Kernell Data Recovery (Extended Scan), Partition Wizard MiniTools (Quick Scan). All of them have scanned the HDD for 12 hours approximately without locating any files for recovery. Partition Wizard MiniTools detected the HDD as a Bad Disk.

Subsequently I tried PhotoRec. It scanned the HDD for 24 hours without any positive result. During pass 0 & pass 1, scanning it kept displaying error reading sector "so and so". But the files didn't populate in the recovery folder.

After this I tried to boot using Knoppix 7.2 LiveCD. The HDD was connected to USB before booting up with Knoppix 7.2 LiveCD. Later, I connected the HDD to USB after booting up with Knoppix 7.2 LiveCD. The HDD was not detected.

I plan to do the following now.
1. Take create a copy using ddrescue in Ubuntu Rescue Remix and work on the copy.
2. If rescue remix fails then try TestDisk on the copy
3. If TestDisk fails then open up the external HDD & try connecting the HDD to laptop using SATA to USB cable

Please let me know if there are any better data recovery alternatives left or any change required in the above sequence of recovery steps

Thank you

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi

The symptoms you posted clearly indicates a hardware issue.

It means the disk surface is severely damaged (has developed pretty huge number of bad sectors ). At this point, Imaging the disk and working on the copy is the best step you can do. I would suggest ;

- Create a RAW disk image using "ddrescue". Since your HDD is a 2TB one, you need a larger capacity drive like 3TB one to store the image.

- Try the trial versions of "GetDataBack" and "R-Studio" on the RAW image. Both supports working with disk images created by "dd" and "ddrescue".

I shouldn't say suddenly. It's a 2TB drive I had in an enclosure that took a bump off a short table the other day. It seemed fine when I tested it and pulled up all the folders. But when I went to move a file off of it, the drive disappeared. It shows up in drive manager as not initialized and not allocated. Working with a friend I tried Minitools Partition Wizard, Power Data Recovery, and Easy Recovery. None of them found anything, no partition and no files. I just wanted to check if there were any other suggestions before I gave it up. Seemed weird the folders and files showed up after the drop, then trying to actually access them made it trash itself. I figure it would be gone from the start. Thanks for any tips (if there are any).

Answer:Drive suddenly shows not initialized and not allocated

It looks like the drive is probably wrecked. It only takes a small knock to irreparably damage the heads particularly if the drive is actually powered & working at the time.
Some firms specialise in data recovery, but I have heard it is very expensive & would only be worth looking into, if the data on the drive was absolutely essential.

Hello,
first of all I would just like to point out that I am not a native speaker so I apologize in advance for the mistakes I might make.
I have a problem with my external hard drive. The drive is Verbatim 47512. Last year I unplugged the drive without safely removing it first. When I plugged it in again it asked me to format the drive. As I didn't wanna loose my files I tried using Recuva and it worked. However, the process took too long and I was leaving for ten months the next day so I had to stop the process. I wanted to continue when I got back but the drive wasn't working at all. I couldn't even turn it on. I kept trying and after some time it started to work again. When I plug it in, I can't find it in my computer. But I can find it in the disk management. I'm attaching a picture, it says it's uninitialized and that it needs to be initialized. I don't know what it means and I'm scared it might delete my files. It also says that it's allocated and unknown. https://postimg.org/image/zci27fe6h/
I downloaded MiniTool Partition Wizard and it says that my disk is bad. I don't know how to proceed, can you please help me? Or should I give up?

Hi all,
i have developed a program to view elements of dynamically allocated arrays in VC++.Any suggestions are welcomed.

Normally when you allocate an array dynamically, and then look at the variable in the watch window you can only see the first element. But if you want to view the entire array just type the <variable-name>, <number-of-elements-to-view>.

Example

void main( void )
{
const int SIZE = 10;
int *intArray = 0;

intArray = (int *)malloc( sizeof( int ) * SIZE ) ;

for( int x = 0; x < SIZE; x++ )
{
intArray[x] = 10 + x;
}

return 0; // put a break point here, so that control stops here and
// we can see the "intArray" contents in "Watch" window
}
Watch Window: Debug -> Windows -> Watch ->

to see intArray in the watch window type

intArray, 10

and now we can see all the 10 elements of "intArray" in watch windows.
Thanks

Hey everyone. I've seen that you guys are a lot more technical than I tend to see in other forums when lurking, so I'm going here instead of the WD forums (because their official techs just want you to mail the drive in without trying anything).

System: Lenovo T60, Win 8, Win 7 on secondary partition, WD Elements 2TB External HDD.

Lets assume for the meantime that unless worst comes to worst, I don't have access to a desktop, and I DO want to keep the files on the drive.

So here's my issue! I have a WD Elements 2TB external HDD.
After a few months of usage, the drive no longer shows up in My Computer.
It still appears in the Device Manager, but now under a different name: "Ext HDD 1021"
I've tried replacing the USB cord, and the power supply as well (I have an unrelated, functional external enclosure that also uses a 12V 1.5A Pos-In power supply that fit perfectly, and the broken drive did all the same things as it did with the old power supply)
It appears in Safely Remove Hardware under the same name
In the Disk Management utility, as soon as I open it up it has a popup that says "You must initialize the disk before Logical Disk Manager can access it"
When I select "MBR" at this window, it says Access Denied.
I'm following the FAQ's here and I get to step 6, the rest after this one don't apply.
Using Windows 8's command line in admin mode, diskpart told me that the disk exists, it knows the ... Read more

Hi all,

I have a Western Digital Elements which has been working properly. This morning when I connected it to my laptop, i heard few weird 'tik tik tik' sounds when it was connected to laptop. Then the laptop could not detect my hardisk.

I tried connecting it to other laptops but the problem still persists; hardisk not detected and the tik sound.

I went to Google the solution but could not find suitable one. In the disk management, my hardisk is shown as not initialized and unknown, but there was no unallocated space at the right hand side as indicated by some other users.

Attach is the screen shot of my disk management, anyone please kindly help!

I am ready to give up my hardisk, but I just wanna get back my data inside, thanks!

Answer:Not initialized Western Digital Elements

It's either the hard drive or the enclosure. It's time to take the enclosure apart and try the hard drive on another usb adapter or on sata within a tower.

About 5 days ago my Seagate 3TB Barracuda HDD started running very slow. Transfer speeds dropped to 182kb/s it previously was around 25.6mb/s. So I started backing up as much as I could, but after 5 days and only getting about 300GB backed up I decided to run chkdsk on the drive. That was a bad idea because now I cannot access the drive at all, and I still have 2.12TB of data that isn't backed up.

Drive has been in use since November 2013
It had over 106,000 files on it.

Things that I tried before Chkdsk:

The drive letter used to be M:
In My Computer I had the drive renamed but it changed itself to local disk

Seatools - Passed all the tests when I was able to access the drive. But the drive info said the power on hours were 0 and the drive temperature was 32 degrees F, other external drives were showing around 30,000 power on hours and temperatures around 130-136 degrees F, the one internal drive showed 72 degrees F

Crystal Disk Info - Showed Unknown Drive and no Info

Crystal Disk Benchmark: Took a long time to run but I posted a screenshot of the results

I plugged the drive into a laptop, had the same results

I tried replacing both the power cable in the USB cable, same result

I tried plugging the USB into a USB 2.0 port instead of the 3.0 that it had been in, still the same exact transfer speed

I tried changing the HDD's policies to Better Performance instead of Quick Removal. Same results

I tried to update driver but it says its up t... Read more

Hi there,

So I had a desktop with a single HDD running windows XP, the desktop overheated and automatically shutoff. The next time I powered on the PC, nothing happened - no BIOS, no beeps, nothing! The PC was pretty old so I just figured it had run it's course and I was thinking about getting a laptop anyway.

So I got a new Windows 7 laptop, and after a few days of setting it up I yanked out the hdd from the old XP desktop and plugged it into the laptop's USB port via some SATA to USB cables.

Win7 recognized new hardware and and seemed to install the drive correctly as "USB Storage", but nothing ever appeared in the Windows Explorer. I opened up the device manager and under 'Disk Drives' I saw a 'USB Drive' item. The properties on that item seemed to indicate all the drivers and such were properly installed and the 'device was working properly'. Under the 'Disk Management' section, the disk showed up - but it said it was 'unknown' and 'not initialized', so no partitions showed up (it also prompted me to 'initialize' it, which I DID NOT do).

At this point I've tried several recovery programs, but the biggest issue is that none of the programs actually see the drive, so I can't run the recovery at all. I even tried Hiren's Boot CD, but again, nothing sees the drive - although, I think that I didn't properly install the USB drivers, so I may try that... Read more

Hello,
New here to this forum. Been searching and reading for the past week trying to get my HDD to work.

I was able to access my external HD about a week ago, watched a movie off it and fell asleep. When I awoke the next morning, powered on my laptop, it wouldn't boot up so I shut it down and unplugged the HD and powered it back on. Plugged the HD back in, computer sees it but not showing in My Computer.

Within Disk Management, it shows Disk1 - Unknown - Not Initialized.

Searched and searched and searched for different solutions, tried different things and still nothing. I have tried PW but not showing up to be able to scan it. I have a docking station so I pulled the HD out and plugged it into that. PW was able to see it but no partitions found. Tried to run TestDisk (per some other help treads instructions) with nothing found.
I have ran EaseUS recovery, recovered some files but none which were readable.

I have lots of important files on this HD and I really need them. Sending it to a professional is out of the question.

I'm currently about to boot up pendrive and see if it sees anything there.

I can post any screen shots and try anything again. I have done nothing but scans scans scans.

Thank you!

Hi HAPPYSOk,

Welcome to Seven Forums.

I would have been happy to help you had it not been a Western Digital External drive.

Is your drive's model No. this WDBFJK0030HBK?

Your drive is hardware encrypted and should the interface card that contains the encryption chip and the decryption key fail, even if the HDD itself is good, you can't get your data out by hooking it up as a second drive in a dock or sata connect on a desktop. You can get what data is there inside but it will be the encrypted data.

Your statement "I have ran EaseUS recovery, recovered some files but none which were readable." confirms this.

The only way you can get your data back is to send the enclosure and drive to the Western Digital patronised Data Recovery Partners listed by WD here WD Support / Data Recovery Partners. Only they have been supplied with the decrypt key by WD and they will do it in a jiffy for you.

Free consultation, So get a quote from them and you will never again buy a WD drive, I am sure.

That is bad news mate. Usually a mechanical HDD won't survive physical shock like dropping etc. This is because of the microscopical gap between the head and platter. Heads flying height on modern HDDs is about 5-10 nano-meters. For example: an average human's hair is about 25000 nano-meters in diameter. A drop will most likely cause the head to stuck on platter or cause scratches on platter surface.
I would suggest diagnosing the HDD using "Seagate Seatool" and verifying it's health.

SeaTools for Windows | Seagate
Run the tool and select your external HDD for testing. Then choose "Basic Tests --> Shot Generic" and wait for it to finish.

If the test is a pass, run "Basic Tests --> Long Generic". If either of the test fails, the case will be beyond DIY and you should consult a data recovery pro for recovery.

Hi, My DVD Recorder died, so I took out the HDD Seagate DB35.2 and plugged it in my laptop. I get the above message in disk management. I also tried Knoppix 7.0 but the disk does not show up. My scope is to save the content in the disk and move it to my PC, is it a mission impossible? Any suggestion is very welcome. Thanks Alex

Answer:Disk 1 Unknown, Not Initialized

I'm not sure you will have much luck if the disk is not readable. You can usually use a Linux distro to try to read it, but you've tried that. If it can be read you can also try Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console. Other than that you could try Recuva and see if that will work. But, if the disk can't be read, I'm afraid there is nothing you can do if those 3 options don't help.

how can i solve this problem

First thing I'd do is try to run the hard drive manufacturer's disk tools on the drive. It may be dead or dying. Shows as "bad disk" with no file system in PW.

And I'd hope I had a backup of whatever is on it.

Hi empog,

Welcome to Seven forums.

It could be an either an issue with the harddrive itself or it is formatted in a partition which is not recognized by windows.

Once the harddrive is connected open command prompt and type diskpart and hit enter. Then type list disk and hit enter.

Whatever information is displayed kindly post a screenshot for the same.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news ... but I had almost exactly the same thing happen to me on a Seagate 2TB hard drive. Working for months, even passing surface checks with no errors and then, one day -- "bad disk".

I've tried every data recovery app I could find against it (4 of them) and none of them find anything.

I've had drives fail me over the years and have never run into this situation where the drive powers up but NOTHING can be recovered from it.

So, I've resorted to sending it off to a local data recovery outfit

Hi, i'm new on this forum. I was searching for an answer to this issue in a lot of threads but i didn't find something to fix it.

I built an external hd using the hard disk of my old laptop (Fujitsu MHV2120AH PL) and a Woxter i-Case 240.

When i connected it via USB i went to the Disk Manager and saw the unit as "Disk 1 Unknown Not Initialized". But there was something else, the disk has a size of 120GB but the Disk Manager shows only 700MB.

The Disk Manager didn't allowed me to format this partition and when I press on "Initialize disk" it didn't do anything.

I used a Linux Live CD and I had the same issue, i tried to create a new partition table but it didn't create it and GParted didn't allow me to create a new partition answering that i need a partition table first.

I tried with Diskpart without any result too.

This HD had an Windows XP installed on the old laptop and before dissamble it i made a quick format with the Bootable CD of my laptop. The quick format was interrupted when the program was copying the files necesary to install Windows XP.

Do you have any idea?

Answer:Unknown - Not Initialized Disk (External HD)

Hello Matterito!

You could try a couple of things: changing the enclosure, as this one's controller may be corrupt, or hooking up the disk directly to the computer.
Also, see if your USB drivers need updating.

Following this, it may be that your disk is just damaged. It could be just that the partition table is corrupted, so may be writing full zeros to the disk and repartitioning and reformatting it would help fix the issue. That is in the case that you don't need the information on the drive.

Answer:External USB Drive Unknown and Not Initialized

With the USB drive plugged in, go to Control Panel > Device Manager. Then see if there are any yellow exclamation marks. Try right click, update driver.

This 2.5" SATA drive is from a Toshiba that seems to have died this morning. There's no boot, no BIOS, nada.
I removed the drive and attached it via USB to my Win7 box where it shows as "Unknown, Not initialized, and offline." There are no rt-click options in disk management. I can hear the drive spinning, but it shuts down on its own occasionally, and sometimes won't power up at all without a bit of fiddiling.
I can't get any response at all from my Linux box, and neither Test Disk nor Recuva finds it at all.
Is there anything else to do, or is this drive dead, as I suspect it is?

Answer:Disk unknown, offline, not initialized.

If it's not being recognized properly, there isn't anything else that you can do.

Hi,

I've been recovering data from three older internal hard drives for a friend, by way of an external HDD enclosure connected via USB to my laptop. It went well for the first two HDDs but the third, well ....

It's a Maxtor DiamondMax 10 HDD, 120 GB and is also marked SATA150.

(1) On most occasions, the HDD in question does not appear under My Computer. Under Devices and Printers, I see the external HDD enclosure as "USB to ATA/ATAPI bridge" (but not the HDD). In Disk Management, I see my internal drives and CD/DVD ROM but for the HDD in question, only "Disk 2, Unknown, Not Initialised" - I get the option to initialise it as MBR or GPT (I cancel at that point).

(2) On rare and seemingly random occasions, my laptop does pick up the HDD as drive F: but usually asks me if I want to format it (nope!). At this point it also appears under Devices and Printers, My Computer and in Disk Management as 'RAW' and 'healthy'.

(3) On three occasions, I have seen the drive name; on two occasions, all of the files - and on one occasion, I was able to copy four files across to my laptop (before losing visibility of it). So I know all the files are there.

However the HDD disconnects itself (or is disconnected) quite quickly, such that I am back to position (1) for the vast majority of the time.

I have tried TestDisk and EaseUS Data Recovery Wizard, which do not see the HDD. I have also tried MiniTool Partition Wizard, which mostly does not see the HDD but on one occa... Read more

Hello Jenny, and welcome to Seven Forums.

What type of drive is it, and how is it being connected?

Please go ahead and post a screenshot showing the full layout of your Disk Management window to see if that may help ID what the issue could be.

Answer:Disk 1 is unknown, not initialized, unallocated, Please help

Start with this free tool. You should try to recover the partition before worrying about recovering the data. If you can recover the partition, the files should be OK if they haven't been over-written.

Best Free Partition Manager Freeware and free partition magic for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Vista and Windows XP 32 bit & 64 bit. MiniTool Free Partition Manager Software Home Edition.

Select Partition Recovery Wizard. Choose the drive, then full disk, quick scan. Quick Scan may take 5 or more hours.

If the partition is eventually found, select and double click on it. You should then see all files in the Explorer.

Hello,

I have used the tittle from another thread as my issue is very similar, only none of what is posted there worked for me.

So I have a WD 500gb HDD. (Actually I am not 100% sure it is a HDD and not a SDD)
I have plugged it in various PC and laptops. When doing so, you get the usual sound que. It also installs the driver according to the little pop up window.
However after that, the drive is not visible in "My Computer".

When I check the drive in Computer Management>Disk Management, it wants me to initialise the disk. Which, I know I do not want to do (thanks to one of your earlier posts) as this will over write my data.
In Disk Management the disk is "Unknown" and "Not Initialised" It also does not give any volume. Pics of both of these attached.

I have tried using Partition Wisord free. It does not even see the drive.
I have tried using Photorec. It does not see the drive.
I have used R-Studio. It does see the disk, but I am not able to scan it. Again also no disk volume. Again Picture attached.

I am hopeful for a solution, as I feel like the symptoms suggest that I do not have a head misalignment. But I might be wrong on that.

Hoping for someone with some mad skills to help me out here.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, I just got a new Y570 Laptop with a 64 gb ssd. In the disk management window, there are two hard drives listed. There is a disk 0, which has four partitions on it, and a disk 1 which is unknown and initialized. Disk 0 is the HDD that comes with the computer. When I try to initialize Disk 1, I get a message saying The disk cannot find the sector requested. What does this mean? Also, is disk 1 the ssd that I'm supposed to have? Another problem:On my hdd, I have an empty partition that says Healthy (OEM partition). It has no file system or letter assigned to it. It is 14.75 gb, and according to disk management, all 14.75 gb are free. What is it, and can I delete it without affecting anything else on my computer?

Answer:Y570 Unknown Disk 1 Not initialized/OEM Partition

hi galaxion2,first of all, do not delete the 14.75 gb partition. it's hidden/system partition that your computer will need to use it during one key recover process.secondly, as you noticed, disk1 is ssd.

I am not placing much hopes on your drive. It doesn't even show the capacity.

I am experiencing the same issue as with jenny123 but with an additional problem. I am troubleshooting a Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1TB external hard drive for my buddy. It is previously working but one day, it is not detected anymore by any device. It is found in the Disk Management however, it is listed as Unknown, Not Initialized, and not showing the partition as shown in the screenshot.

When I try to change it from Offline to Online, I am encountering the error:
"Virtual Disk Manager: The system cannot find the file specified"

I also used the DISKPART in cmd but it is not showing Disk 1 as shown below.

The external hard drive is found in disk drives but it is not showing it's model name.

I tried all the recommended software (partition wizard, testdisk, icare) but still no luck. I also tried searching online for an answer but there's no closure to their issues as well. Hope someone can help on this as he need a) the drive and b) recover the files in the external drive. Thanks!

EDIT: The drive can be seen in the Devices and Printers as shown below.

Answer:Disk unknown, not initialized, and not showing partition

Hi

For any serious troubleshooting, diagnostics or recovery attempt, you should always connect an HDD to a direct SATA port. Usually you can easily remove the header of any Seagate Golex drive and then connect it to an internal SATA port.

Let us know what "Disk Management" reports when you connect the drive directly.

I ran BIOS diagnostics on a Dell OptiPlex 3010 yesterday and received an error code (2000-0142) - short self test unsuccessful. I pulled the drive and swapped a new SATA drive to get the user back up and running quickly. I'm trying to connect the drive with the error to my laptop using a StarTech USB 2.0 to IDE SATA Adapter. When I open Disk Management I see Disk 0 (my laptop drive) and Disk 1 (the connected drive). It says Unknown / Not Initialized. When I right click and try to initialize it says "The device is not ready." I've tried the more actions > refresh / rescan. Now when I right click the option to Initialize Disk is grayed out and I can only see Offline and Properties.

I browsed through a thread from about 2 years ago and couldn't find a helpful solution.

The drive: Western Digital 250GB SATA / 16MB Cache - WD2500AAKX

Answer:Disk Management - Unknown / Not Initialized Drive

Have you attempted to run Western Digital's Data Lifeguard diagnostic software? It has a short test and an extended test.

Are you trying to recover anything from this drive? Or just trying to find out if it's broken?

I am using windows 8 and I have read previous threads with similar issues that I face but my problem is unique. My 60GB external Hard disk was manufactured by FUJITSU and was taken out of a dell laptop. When I bought a case for it yesterday it was tested in a laptop computer to see if it was working before I paid for the case and it was working properly. However, the owner of the laptop removed the cable without safely ejecting the drive first. Later, I connected it to several computer and it would install and be detected in Device manager, Disk Management and even devices and printers but it does not show in My Computer nor does autoplay options pop up. In disk management it is shown as Disk 1 unknown not initialized as shown in the attached screenshot.

I notice that whenever i open disk management, it prompts me to initialize the disk but when i chose gpt and click ok, this window pops up

when I right click the Disk 1 the initialize option is gray and only offline, properties, and help are available. I used mini partition tool and this is what i get

I am at my wits end. Please assist. I do not need what is inside the hdd. I just want it to work.

Answer:External Hard disk not initialized, unknown.

"I notice that whenever i open disk management, it prompts me to initialize the disk but when i chose gpt and click ok, this window pops up"

I have tried using MiniTool Partition Wizard as described in this thread.

I'm not sure where to go now to try to recover the data on this HDD.

Thanks for your help in advance.

i tried to plug it in another computers but nothing changed.

Answer:my external hard drive is unknown and not initialized

I assume you have tried another usb cable; that is the very first thing to do.
If you have already done the above, then the next thing I would do would be to pull the drive out of the enclosure and connect it as an internal drive. Note you must have a working desktop to accomplish this task. If that does not work, you can send the drive to a data recovery shop. This last step is NOT cheap so get an estimate. A simple recovery using software can run $250 or so plus the cost of whatever media you want the data copied to AND it goes way up from there.

Data you do not backup is data you do not care about AND you should expect to lose said data. All drives fail; it is only a question of when your drive will fail.

It is my brother's hard drive & it has very important data related to his working. It is a 2tb WD my passport ultra external hard disk which was used as NTFS with only one partition.
My brother told me that he deleted some data from the drive by mistake and was recovering the data from the drive but all the windows recovery programs he used just hanged after few minutes (which is also a sign of bad sectors). Then he done the blundered mistake by formatting the drive, the formatting also not completed due to hang situation.

Now the current situation is that the drive is not showing in the windows explorer and when I open the disk management ,the popup came up for initializing the disk either as MBR or GPT. When I try to initialize the disk, it gives me this error:- "The request failed due to a fatal device hardware error". I have attached a few screenshots below.

I have tried cloning the drive with clonezilla, tried booting the drive with parted magic, Hire n boot and system rescue CD but neither of them recognized the drive and some also rejected to boot with the drive attached.
Now currently i am scanning this disc for recovering the lost partition in the 'Partition Recovery Wizard' software according to the advice on some old thread here, but this software has detected my disk as 'bad Disk' in the file System column as you can see in the fifth image, so i don't have much hope with this software.

Please tell me if there is any hope left for drive like try... Read more

Answer:wd 2tb external drive - unknown, not initialized and unallocated

Hello nsingla and I am sorry you and your brother have this problem!

Things don't look so good now. You've done and tried a lot with aim you need, still looks like the drive's partition table and/or file system are corrupted to a stage that prevents other software to work correctly onto the drive.

I could additionally suggest trying to scan and repair the drive. Try downloading the WD ultra Drive Utilities for Windows and see if you could repair the drive:

Support Answers

If nothing works, the drive is probably too damaged and beyond repair. Hope this is not the case. But perhaps the worst part for the drive was the formatting attempt. Which, by definition, would delete everything from the HDD.

Good luck and post back with results!

I am trying to recover data from laptop internal HDD use as an external hard drive to recover data from that HDD. I can't see my HDD in my computer but in DISK Managemnet, there is a message, "Disk 1 Unknown Not Initizalized"

Please Help!!

Thanks,

Answer:Recover Data from Disk that is unknown and not initialized

If the data is critical, and it sounds like it is.. the first thing I would do is use a software that makes a sector by sector backup or image of that uninitialized drive. That way if trying to make it readable by initializing it should hose it, you have a copy.

After that, if you know that the unititialized drive was at one time formatted NTFS then you might try initializing it with Partition Wizard freeware

But it may be worthwhile to talk to someone well versed in disk recovery. There may even be some dedicated forums around for that specialty.

If you get lucky and the Partition Wizard initialization shortcut works, then the files should be there after doing a non-destructive format as NTFS file system.

Assuming that's what it was to begin with.

I've got 600GB HD (Rock mobile disk) that goes without saying need to be recuperated. It was working fine earlier this summer when I last accessed it. A few weeks ago, I plugged it in again and it gave me an I/O Device Error, read and unspecified error.

I have been researching a solution non stop and today when i plugged it in once again something worst happened, this time I see a External HD not Detected: Disk 1, Unknown, Not Initialized in Disk Management.

Can someone please help?

The irony... we get an external drive to protect our data and not loose it and then this happens

Answer:External HD not Detected: Disk 1, Unknown, Not Initialized

Try this to salvage what you can from it: Download MiniTool Power Data Recovery Free Edition - MajorGeeks
Do that before any attempts to repair.
If nothing, portable drives are even less reliable than stationary ones and it's interfaces are prone to malfunction.

I have this 160GB hard drive that I have not been using for a while, yet I am very sure it was working fine the last time I used it.

Today when I plugged it in to my new notebook that is running Windows 8.1 now, it doesn't detect my hard drive. I also tried on other notebook and it has the same issue. So I know the problem is most likely on the hard drive.

Using Command Prompt, it says Disk 1's status is "Online", but size is "0".

Here is the status at Computer Management:
Disk 1
Unknown
Not Initialized

I also tried to Initialize on MBR, but it returned me with "Incorrect function." message.

I tried "Troubleshoot" and the result says:
"USB Mass Storage Device is an older USB device and might not work with USB 3.0
Plug the device into an available USB 2.0 port..."
My notebook has 3 USB ports where according to the manual, 2 of them are backward compatible to 2.0... I tested on each, but it is still not working.

What should I do? Although I have not been using it for a while, I wish to check the content first before formatting it. I might have some forgotten, yet important files within.

Thanks in advance. Hope I can be assisted here.

Answer:HDD not Detected: Disk 1, Unknown, Not Initialized, Online

If the controller in the enclosure failed removing the drive and slaving it into a desktop PC may let you recover your files. If the drive failed there isn't much you can do.

I had a WD 2TB external drive which I transferred successfully to a USB 3.0 enclosure months ago. Then I moved and the drive has been packed away in the trunk of my car since.

I just got it out as I need some files on it, and when I hooked it up it didn't work: the computer recognized it as a CD drive or something... in Computer it would not show up or show up as just a drive letter ... in disk management it said No Media. I tried it on another PC too to no avail.

After much research, the most likely solution looked to be to get a new enclosure. So I did, but the drive still isn't working, but in a different way.

When I first hooked it up, all looked well: the system tray showed correct recognition of the drive and enclosure type/brand and installed the drivers successfully.

But the drive no longer shows up in Computer at all, and in disk management it now prompts me to initialize the disk, and has it marked as Unknown, Not Initialized.

I guess there is mechanical problem with the hard drive. you can try checking and repairing bad sectors (http://www.articlesbase.com/hardware...s-6907958.html), or just send it to some drive repair center.
but, if there is important files on the drive, you'll have to recover data before repairing it.

Hello
I got my 1tB WD external disk and it's not working as it used to. The problem came from nowhere, suddenly, totally unexpected. There is/was my precious data on it which I collected for 10+ years and I'd like not to lose it.

Origin:
It was working fine a day ago, no problems occured. Hasn't been unplugged since then. Has never fallen. Has never had any kind of error. But: I've seen some kind of ".COM not responding" problem on my PC (don't remember, closed it immediately). I believe my laptop is in a good and healthy condition.

So, what my WD HDD does is:
- it can be seen as a device by my computer. I can plug it out safely.
- diode shows that it's working (not showing the data transfer activity)
- nothing else

What I see in Device Management/Storage is (as in the title):
Screenshot by Lightshot

What programs I used to try to restore partition:
- Mini tool Partition Recovery Home Edition (quick and deep scan, no results. Shows disk as a Bad Disk)
http://prntscr.com/2wpy8s
- Mini tool Power Data Recovery (pro, non-free tool, however after scan there was no results)
- Find and Mount (no results)
- TestDisk (quick and deep scan, no results)

What I haven't tried doing is connecting the HDD directly to the laptop.

Any suggestions?

Answer:External HDD shows as Unknown, Not initialized, Unallocated. Restore?

You should try directly conmcting it. If that does not work, try this: Recover a flash drive turned RAW ? Partition Wizard and TestDisk. Do recovery with partition wizard. (Don't mind the name) But if that does not work, your drive is dead. Like a wise man said, backup, backup, backup!

My external HD is WD 1TB HD.. it does not matter if i lose the data..but i want the HD to work

Answer:disk manager shows DISK1 unknown and not initialized

I had a Seagate drive fail suddenly last week -- a lot like the situation you described, and neither the Seagate nor the WD drive diagnostics even see the drive when it's in an external drive caddy. When I connect it to an internal drive cable, I get a SMART error and the PC hangs on the boot.

Have also tried Minitool Partition Wizard and some other data recovery apps, which CAN see the external drive, but they can't find or recover any partitions.

Suggest you check with Minitool as they offer a free trial of a data recovery app that might work for you.

This is the first time in years that I've had a drive fail and NONE of the data recovery apps have been able to find anything on the drive.

I've resorted to sending it off to a local data recovery service and am awaiting a quote.

Yesterday, I was working with my PC while my 1TB Seagate external hard (Amazon.com: Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1 TB USB 3.0 Ultra-Portable External Hard Drive in Black STAA1000101: Electronics) was plugged in via USB. The USB connection was a little bit loose.

Then when I was plugging a USB flash memory in, I noticed that the external hard was disconnected.
I connected it again, but it didn't appear in My Computer.
Here is the state in Disk Management and Device Manager:

After that, I plugged out the "SATA to USB converter" from the hard and connected it directly to SATA cable inside the PC case (like internal HDD), but this time nothing showed up in Disk Management, Device Manager and BIOS. However, it took a long time for the system to boot.

I searched and read lots of threads and tested some other stuff:

(It didn't appear in Minitool Partion Wizad).

I've got a lot of data on this HDD which really matters to me.
Any help is really appreciated.

Hi there Sedhadi,

If your HDD is failing the manufacturer's tests it is probably dead. IF you need to get your data back look for a reputable data recovery company in the area.
Hope that helps.

Hi all, Let me start off by saying i have spent the last few hours looking online for anything that would be able to help sort out my problem and found your forum the most helpful and the only one i have signed up to. So thankyou in advance.

I have a WD1200D036 (2.5 120GB external) that is not showing in My Computer nor was it showing up in DM but after going to device management\Disk Drives then Volumes tab and clicking on Populate it turned up in Disk Management as: Disk 1 Unkown not initialized. when i click on it and select initialize disk it opens up and asks me to select disk 1 and what partition style (I just sent with MBR) then click ok. It pops up with a error "Incorrect Function"

Any ideas??

Hi

I would suggest verifying the health condition of your hard drive first. You can use "WD Data Life Guard Diagnostic" to do that.

Download : WD Support / Downloads / Legacy Internal / WD RE2

The WD tool will list both your internal HDD and USB HDD for testing. Select the USB one and choose "Extended Test" to run. Let us know the test result in next reply.

Hi,

I'm new to this forum.

My external hard disk (Seagate) is detected in the task bar after connecting, but not visible in "My Computer".

It is visible in Device manager under Disk Drives but not under USB.

There are few threads in this forum which are similar to mine, except that their Drives are visible in the Disk Management as Unallocated Space, mine is not.

SEE ATTACHMENTS !!!!!!!!!

I've tried all tools, tried in Windows XP still no solution.

Is there any way to atleast recover the data !!!!!!!!!

Your reply is appreciated !!!!!!!!

Hello. Through the power of google, I have come here to see If I can get any help recovering data. Essentially found this thread: disk 1 is unknown, not initialized, unallocated and just having really similar issues.

Issue is with my sisters External Hard drive, a WD My Passport Elite 070B.
Asked her a few questions on how she was using the drive/any issues and she explained that she had to pull the usb plug while still reading/writing because it would hang/freeze (/facepalm)

Downloaded PW Minitool Recovery and EasyRecovery Pro Trial, but haven't really run any lengthy tests yet. Just tried them out for 10 mins to see if anything would show up. Going to leave the computer on tonight and do a full scan though.

Some other things I have tried:
-Tried connecting it to other PC's/Laptops(XP/Vista/Windows 7/OSX). Same thing.
-Tried different USB cables

Any suggestions or things I should try?

Hello

I am trying to recover data from my external HD 1 TB Fantom Drive GreenDrive. It crashed and I had no choice to force power down. When I look into Disk Management - I see that Disk 1 Unknown Size Not Initialized.

See Disk Man.JPG for printscreen of Disk Management.

I tried following the Mini Partition Tool advice and did not find the external drive on the software. Please see Mini Partion Tool.JPG for print screen.

I am thinking about buying another external HD 2TB and clone this drive to recover the data. Any advice to clone a drive that I cannot select.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I've seen that and the HDDs had truly crashed, wasn't anything I could do but in a couple of instances I sent them off to a firm that recovers data if the platters/disks in them haven't been physically damaged. Sometimes the read-write heads will scratch the platters and they are then truly screwed up.

Hey guys, quick question. I just allocated more space to my system restore to ensure that when i back up files/docs there will be sufficient space. But does the allocated space for system restore affect at all how much space is allocated for backup? If not, i will would like to turn back down the allocated space for the restore. Dont want too many restore points Thanks alot for the input!

Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit
Service Pack 1
Computer is ASUS laptop
4 gb of ram
64 bit system

Answer:Does allocated space for sys restore affect allocated space for backup

System restore data is kept on your primary partition, backup data would need to be stored on another partition or better still - another drive, so the answer is no.... but that said if you're asking will the space allocated for System Restore affect drive imaging backups, then the answer is it will increase the size of the backup images...

That said, why would you need to operate both System Restore and Drive Imaging?

to be honest i don't know if this thing got switched out of my desk drawer with some other model usb dvd writer i had been using which worked. i have a few of these portable usb dvd drives and they all look the same, but i'm pretty sure this one has worked.

went to use it today and on work computers where i'm pretty sure it has worked in the past, now windows shows it as "unrecognized device, driver not installed". This was on some computers that have not had windows update in a while, some of which are off network lab computers which are pretty reliable and never have a problem. I tried it on a test pc that has all windows updates as of now, same deal.
In device manager it shows up as a problem device with yellow triangle.

I try it on my home pc, and that says driver installed but then shows up as Unkown Device under Universal Serial Bus Controllers in device manager. I did windows update with it connected as unknown device and windows update did not help. go under device manager and look at the properties of device, Hardware ID comes up as unknown. The driver key property shows up as

In every case, this usb dvd writer never shows up under my computer, or in disk manager.

My PC wouldn't boot off the SSD (with Win 10 OS). It said there were boot problems and tried to diagnose the problem but it doesn't boot. I'm now using the original HD with Win 7. I'd like to get the SSD working if I can. The SSD is OCZ - 240 GB or so.

But between last night and today, the SSD has gotten worse. I can't access it at all now. Last night I was able to access it as an external drive. What I did in between was a chkdsk of the HD just to make sure it was OK. Then this morning I saw that the SSD had problems.

Disk Management shows the SSD as disk 1, but it has no information on it. It just says the disk is unknown and uninitialized.

I saw a recommendation for Partition Wizard 9.1 Free. But that doesn't show the drive at all. I attached screen shots as a Word document.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello all,
I'm suffering froma troubling problem with a Windows 7 system.
This system has a boot HDD (C and data storage RAID5 array (D. The system locked up hard requiring a power down to get Windows operational gain.

The sytem is fine now, except the ~3 TB RAID5 array is not seen by W7. The W7 disk managment snap-in reports that the 2793.97 GB "drive" exists, but the status is "Unknown" and "not initialized". Needless to say, the drve was online and contained LOTS of data before the crash. Due to it's size, the drive was GPT.

I ran a synchronize on the RAID 5 array and that finished w/o error, so I assume the actuall array is fine.

Any recommendations for what utllity/diagnostic/etc. to try next?

Further info: The RAID 5 is a creation of the AMD SB750 "southbridge", which uses tech licensed by Promise Technology.

Alright, so I bought a new portable harddisk, the samsung 3 1tb. However for some reason my pc does detect it, but is not able to run it. it gives me the error that it is an unknown device.

However, i tried the Hdd on several other pcs, and it worked fine, leaving me the conclusion that my pc is at fault. After recommendations from a friend, i tried to find myself some updated drivers for my motherboard, specifically usb drivers. However, my driver CD, aswell as the Asus site did not support my operating system (Windows 7, 64 bit).

So here I am, still unable to resolve this, hoping that any of you might be able to help me out. If you need any additional information, ill provide it asap.

Some software publishers or authors offer both portable and installable versions of their products. (Kee Pass is one of them.)

Is it advisable to systematically prefer the portable version, when running it from a fixed drive and not a thumb drive, according to the logic that if it's possible not to write into the registry, it's better not to ?

I often try new software, and I'm concerned about long-term stability. I install and uninstall a lot, using Revo Uninstaller Pro. But I've come accross people advising not to use Revo or other fancy uninstallers, just to stick to the product's own uninstaller or the Windows function.

Also, I have set C-Cleaner to a daily auto-run. In the past, I used its registry cleaner quite regularly. But some people say it's better not to clean the registry at all.

So I figured the more applications could stay away from the registry, the better. Is this a correct assumption ? Are there any drawbacks to portable apps ?

Answer:Are portable apps preferable, even for non-portable use ?

HI
I have been using a lot of cleaning softwares too . Registry as well as junk cleaners.
Registry cleaner to me is a good thing as it removes the useless leftovers of programs that are left by their regular un-installer or some deleted files.

ANS1 > I recommended to clean registry as it improves performance and reduce junk in resgitry . So if portables apps dnt have or create these junks in registry then ur assumption is right and i m at your side too because " u dont need to re-install every software when u replace OS as it will work as it is if its PORTABLE "

ANS2 > Portable softwares are better then installed ones .

Above are the answer given as a user , i have used many portable softwares never had any issue just benefits

This was just release this month. It can be run from pen drive or even a CD in addition to being locally installed. I just added it to my troubleshooting toolkit.

ClamAV itself is a very good virus scanner.

This AV is well known in the Linux circles. It is a good AV to use on Linux mail servers for catching Windows crap. The definitions are updated more than once per day.

Please note that ClamWin Free Antivirus does not include an on-access real-time scanner, that is, you need to manually scan a file in order to detect a virus or spyware. Also, Portable ClamWin has scheduled scans and updates disabled as they are not used in a portable scenario.Click to expand...

Also please note, but don't let this put you off trying it out, but ...

False Positives - The current virus definition update for ClamWin has a LOT of problems with false positives (seeing viruses where there are none) in the portable apps. They are listed in known issues on the support page.Click to expand...

Despite this, I can highly recommend this AV ...

Hi. I installed windows 7 on C Drive. previously it was on drive D. After a fresh install, im unable to convert the un- allocated space to a usable drive.
Please check the screen shot. The HDD also contains a lot of un allocated free spaces.

Using Partition Wizard, i tried checking whethter the un allocated drive 48.89 gb contains errors. it found that it contains systems files of the previous windows installation. But My computer shows it as complete 48.89 Gb.

Answer:HDD Un Allocated Space

This is Windows 7 and not eXPired. You don't need all of those small logical drives. In Windows 7, there are libraries and userprofile folders to help you organize your data.

Can't you simply add that space to the right of you C onto the C by extending the C?

Let me look back at your diskmanagment map again for further recommendations.

Question: allocated space

i have no allocated space on my harddisk but i have some free space {not allocated}tell me how can i convert my free space into allocated space. i want to install dual operating system on my laptop.but i have no allocated space on my hard disk.please help me

Answer:allocated space

Go to Start/Search and type diskmgmt.msc Right click the diskmgmt icon in the search results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Disk Management window, take a screen shot and attach it in your next post.
If the Free Space, (Bright Green color), is part of an Extended Volume (Darker Green border) you would have to copy all of the files in the other partitions that are in the Extended Volume to a different drive, then delete all partitions within the Extended Volume. Then you can right click the Unallocated Space, and choose to create a New Simple volume

I'm having a weird problem with Windows 2000 Version 5.0 that has stumped our IT guy.About once a day, the computer starts to go very slowly. When I open up the task manager, I see CPU usage is stuck at 100%, with System Idle Process at 0%.But there's no one process taking up all the CPU usage. Instead, the 100% is allocated among the programs that are open -- Outlook, Firefox, the virus scanner and even the Task Manager itself. The listed CPU usage bears no relation to how much CPU usage the processes should require. For example, it might say 50% CPU usage for Outlook (even though I'm not getting or sending any e-mail or doing anything in Outlook) and 50% for the task manager. Then it might shift to 33% Outlook, 33% task manager and 33% Mcshield. The CPU usage will stay at 100% for several minutes, then return to normal. In recent days, the problem has been lasting longer. It used to happen for only a couple of minutes, but now it's taking 10 minutes or so to go back to normal. This shouldn't be a memory problem, since I seem to have enough memory for the programs I run (usually just Firefox, word processor, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat Reader and sometimes Excel).System specs:Windows 2000 Version 5.0 (Build 2195: Service Pack 4)Computer: Dell OptiPlex GX110 -- x86 Family 6 Model 8 Stepping 6 AT/AT Compatible, 522,476 KB RAM33.2 GB hard driveThanks for your help.

Answer:CPU usage at 100% but allocated among processes

Depending on which window you are looking at in task manager it is supposed to add up to 100%.DLoad and install Process Explorer which will give you and the IT guy more detailed info.

Hi there, I recently installed Win 7 on my PC. I used to have XP. I have a HDD IDE, the one is running Win7. I also I have a 2TB sata drive that I use as a slave. Before I installed Win 7. The Sata drive was working fine until I upgraded to Win 7. Now my HDD does no show on MY Computer screen. I have all my important information in that Hard Drive. When I go to the disk manager, it shows the drive, but it says unallocated. What can I do, how can I retrieve all the information. I have in the HDD. I do not want to lose all my data. Thanks!![regaining space - attachment deleted by admin]

Answer:HDD allocated after upgrading to Windos 7

As a rule of thumb, I always unplug all unnecessary drives while installing an Operating System to avoid messing up.1) Before we make any unnecessary modifications to the drive, could you slave that drive to another computer to see if your data is retrievable?2) Did you accidentally format the partition?3) You could try http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/Testdisk to recover partitions from a corrupted partition table.

Recently my old 180gb HD died on me, causing me major trouble because even though I have another 1TB HD in my PC, it's half full with data I don't want to lose.

I searched google, but I only found answers how to partition the drive if I still have sufficient unallocated space left or how to allocate unallocated space.

I apparently need to do the opposite, so that I can create a new partition in that unallocated space for a new windows partition (now I only have 7MB unallocated, but 500GB free space).

Is there a way to do this or otherwise create a new partition (20-50GB) on my 1TB drive without destroying the data on it?

Answer:How to UNallocate already allocated space?

As far as I know, there is no way to unallocate space without deleting the data on it.

I bought a Hitachi Touro Desk Pro to back up my new build and Windows Backup & Restore came back with an error (0x8078002a). After searching the internet for a solution, the most popular one was to format the drive and try again. I did this and it still didn't work, so I formatted it through Disk Management, and that left me with a 2TB partition and a 1.6TB partition. I can only allocate the 2TB partition, but cannot extend it into the 1.6TB. When they are both unallocated, I cannot allocate the 1.6TB. I've tried DiskPart, but that leaves me with the same results.
I haven't been able to backup my computer yet, and I'm getting really antsy about it because I know of all the things that can go wrong. Any ideas please?

Answer:4TB External HDD formatted only 2TB allocated

What OS are you using?

The issue is it likely being 4K sector drive and I am not sure if formatting will change the physical sectors.

Here are some MS links about the 4K sectors:

http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/hh848035(v=vs.85).aspx

As for formatting the other partition you may need a utility like the following

Is there a program like WINDIRSTAT that I used in vista to tell me where my space was being used - listed all the progs files etc and how much space they took .

Maybe there is something in 8 that already does this

Any comment / suggestions

Answer:Solved: how is my space allocated ?

Hello mikeysaling,

I suggest using TreeSize.

It's a free program that does exactly as you describe.

If you'd like, I could help you clean up some of the unused things on your computer.

If so, please follow the instructions below:

Go here and click the green "Download latest version" link to download and save HiJackThis 2.0.4.

After it's been downloaded and saved, close all open windows first, then double-click the saved file to install it.

Allow it to install in its default location - C:\Program Files.

After it's been installed, start it and allow its main window to load.

Uncheck "Do not show this window when I start HiJackThis".

Click on the "Open The Misc Tools Section" button.

Click on the "Open Uninstall Manager" button.

Click on the "Save List" button.

Save the "uninstall_list.txt" file somewhere.

It'll then open in Notepad.

Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the entire file here.

My laptop has a large disc which is split into 2 equal parts."C" holds downloaded programs and files and has a capacity of 51GB"D" holds the data of the operating system and has a capacity of 53GB--------most of which is unused'My Question is how can I move the free space on D to the partition of C.I cant believe the space sits there to be unusedChris

Answer:Allocated disc space XP

You use the D space to store files, music, video backups. Just drag folders over and drop them into D. It is possible to merge the partition, though you would have to pay for decent software and you might damage the space that holds the opereting system. It is always advisable to backup every thing if you try to alter the partition.

Windows is detecting a HDD error, and I decided to download Crystal Disk to check what the problem is... I placed two attachments there of Crystal Disk screenshots, and as you can see, Re-allocated Sectors Count is at a critical point, and this hard drive has almost 6 months only.. The error appeared after I installed "Game Fire" , and the possible cause I can only think of, is that this program closed some Services and Processes in the Task Manager, to help boost my PC's performance, and that kinda made some corrupt files, I will give as much details as I can.

PS: I already formated my hard drive once and nothing changed

Answer:HDD Re-Allocated Sectors error

When the HDD finds a sector that can no longer read/write data, it will mark this sector as "reallocated" and transfer the data to another sector in a special reserved area of the hard drive. This usually means that the sector was physically damaged in some way. Even brand new drives coming out of the factory can have reallocated sectors because of manufacturing defects. If the reallocated sector count remains constant and doesn't increase, you may not have any problems with the hard drive. But it would certainly be to your advantage to start backing up everything on that drive. This forum thread has some more info:

Reallocated Sectors Count: Should I be worried? - techPowerUp! Forums

Since the drive is 6 months old, it's probably still under warranty. You could also contact WD support to see what they recommend.

WD also has their own hard drive diagnostic tool called Data Lifeguard Diagnostic for Windows. You could run this to see if your hard drive shows any other problems. WARNING: Most of these diagnostic tests will stress the hard drive so if the drive is close to failing, the test could push it over the edge. Even more important to have your data backed up.
