2 SSD's 2 Different firmware?

Question: 2 SSD's 2 Different firmware?

I have a Intel 510 ssd and I looking to add another ssd. Can you have both if they have different firmware. I'm looking at several including Intel 320.
Will this confuse the motherboard bios or Windows 7?

Relevance 100%
Preferred Solution: 2 SSD's 2 Different firmware?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: 2 SSD's 2 Different firmware?

I don't think it will give any problems just because of firmwares. After all, it's entirely internal to each device. As long as each one has the proper drivers and the motherboard recognizes each one, they should work.

I am trying to coble together two non-working Zen Xtras into a working one. I receive a message: "Firmware Problem," and am instructed to reload the firmware. When I attempt to do so, the firware does not recognize the device although the device shows up in My Computer as a Zen Xtra. I have reloaded the drivers. When I attempt to reinstall the firmware, it states that it cannot detect the device and please connect it now. How do I resolve this lack of recognition?

Is it possible to replace a routers firmware w/ something other than the original firmware to update from wep encryption to wpa encryption and all the other features that these new routers have? If so is this hard to do and is there a big risk or really screwing things up?

Answer:Replacing router Firmware w/ third party Firmware?

nope its easy, and as long as your smart and follow the few basic guildlines very unlikely chance of damaging the router. Biggest suggestion is never do the update via wireless as if you loss signal or what not could loose a bit of data for the router update.

I was prompted to update my Battery firmware I have a genuine battery in my Thinkpad edge E520 that is out of warrenty The firmware failed and disabled the battery so it is no longer operating How do i reverse this firmware or disable the battery bios check?

Answer:Battery firmware has just killed my battery. How do you justify pushing firmware that does this?

Hi, welcome to the forums.

Here it is the support site link for your model just in case.

I'm guessing that the computer is booting but the battery does not provide any charge, right?

I did not have that issue, but I'm just guessing, What will happen if you apply the battery firmware update again? You can download it manually from the support site: "Lenovo Battery Firmware Update Utility for Windows 10 (32-bit, 64-bit), 8.1 (32-bit, 64-bit), 8 (32-..."

This is what it cames to my mind right now, I hope it helps.

Hello all,

I am looking for Firmware for DI-614+ wireless router. When I use WEP encryption, no wireless client (laptop) can connect. I have also tried the latest firmware I can get from D-Link. I hoping to use this with my TFCko box or as my access point for my laptop.

If I cannot use it as wireless access point. Is there a firmware hack to make it a wireless client or a repeater?

Thanks for any ideas

Question: firmware?

I heard someone use the word firmware the other day and wondered what the heck it is. After checking out the definition on www.webopedia.com I am still a little confused on the subject. Anyone care to explain this to me? Please?

Answer:firmware?

well i understand it as a piece of software build into hardware. Examples of firmware are: bios's, video bios's etc.

There is a way of upgrading firmware in hardware like DVD burners to make them faster or burn dual layer.

hi!

Can anyone tell me what is firmware?

Answer:what is a firmware?

Firmware - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Quote:
In electronic systems and computing, firmware is a term often used to denote the fixed, usually rather small, programs and/or data structures that internally control various electronic devices. Typical examples of devices containing firmware range from end-user products such as remote controls or calculators, through computer parts and devices like hard disks, keyboards, TFT screens or memory cards, all the way to scientific instrumentation and industrial robotics. Also more complex consumer devices, such as mobile phones, digital cameras, synthesizers, etc., contain firmware to enable the device's basic operation as well as implementing higher-level functions.

Question: What is firmware

I have recently had trouble with Genie-Soft backup software. They tell me I need to back up my firmware. I am not sure what they mean by this and their explanation hasn’t helped me.

I have Nero 5.5.10.9 installed on my computer and my CD-RW Burner is Imation. I used the Nero Info tool which showed [1.0] G:\CD-RW CDR 6S52 in the top left of the box and Type: CD-RW Recorder and Firmware Version: CDR 6S52.

I went on to the Nero site which states they will not accept responsibility for any firmware updates.

I haven’t a clue what I’m supposed to do now. It’s taken me ages to get this far and in all honesty, I don’t really know what I am doing. Is the firmware update supposed to be for Nero or Imation. Can anyone help me?

My OS is WinXP Pro

Question: Firmware

I recently purchased an nVIDIA 6200AGP8x 350MHz Graphics Card with 512MB For an eight year old Dell Dimension 4600i (P4, 3G HT with a 128 card). As I didn?t think I was getting the full benefit of the new card I checked in BIOS. The maximum it goes to is 256 so I looked the Dell site and saw there were 4 updates, one being video, ok so I downloaded it, and then stopped. I have had a bad experience with firmware (a Plextor drive that refused to work after an update) as a result I am not sure whether to go ahead or not. Ok pathetic but please humour me, do the risks out way the benefits.
Oh, re. the HP on this PC, I noticed it is disabled in BIOS sorry better for a new thread perhaps.
Dave

Answer:Firmware

Now lets see if I understand. You have replaced the the original graphics card with a nVIDIA 6200AGP8x 350MHz Graphics Card.
From the Dell web site it only shows one update for the Bios but it does not state what it was for so should not be used.
Although it does have several driver updates for graphics cards these are not for the new card you have installed and should not be used. Go to the nVidia web site for new updated drivers.
From my memory the bios does not indicate how much memory the graphics card uses. I could be wrong.

Question: Firmware for an AP

I have a couple of DLink 900AP's. One has the standard DLink firmware but the other has some specialist firmware for use with a commercial WiFi network.Does anyone know if it's possible to download the non-standard DLink firmware from the 900AP - so I can flash it to my other 900AP?

Answer:Firmware for an AP

No; I think you'd have to find it on the net. Search for whatever info you have even just its revision number. You can usually make backups of router/AP configurations, of course, but although the firwmare is sometimes saved along with it, it may not accept being ported across and you'd lose the other AP's settings in so doing.

Hi,I recently bought my first CD burner. It's a Sony Spessa USB Plus CRX100E/X2 drive. I found out that it can't quite burn an entire 80 min/700MB disk, but that there is supposedly a firmware update that fixes it. I downloaded a firmware update program from Sony's website (found here), and flashed the drive with the default firmware file (CDRW0008.BIN), but it didn't seem to do anything except change the driver to an EEPROM driver. I switched back to the original driver, and it was as if I had never done anything...The firmware program came with another BIN file, ZERO.BIN, so I tried flashing that. I guess that was a mistake, because now the drive doesn't work at all - it's recognized as a "non-specific QT processor with JG". I tried changing the driver back to the original again, but this time Windows won't use it. It just says that there are no compatible drivers for the device. I tried to flash the firmware with the program from Sony again, but now it doesn't recognize the drive as being compatible, so it won't flash it.I was hoping to get some support from Sony, but they informed me that I would have to pay more than I paid for the drive in the first place to get support. So, I hope someone here might have an idea of how I can fix it.

Answer:Is there any way to fix this firmware?

That is why the smarter people here do NOT recommend firmware or BIOS updates lightly. You can end up with a doorstop and no recourse. If the product is still under warranty and doesn't do what is advertised, take it back for a return or replacement with something that does.

Question: OEM DVD Firmware

Dvd disk drive won't run DVD's. Makes alot of clicking, spinning noises but wont read disks. Went to HKEY areas and changed some things recom by other forums. Didn't work. Told needed firmware upgrade. Unable to find firmware for Optiarc DVD RW AD-7530A ATA Device because as near as I can find it's an OEM Device. Went back to Gateway(Notebook Manufacturer) and they don't have. Any suggestions? Ifu can't fix, I guess u install a new DVD Device or a new Notebook.
Was also told by Gateway I needed a Codec upgrade.

Answer:OEM DVD Firmware

The codec pack is easy enough- Techspot has what you need here http://www.techspot.com/downloads/775-klite-codec-pack-full.html
Install and then try running the discs.

How does the drive show up in the Device Manager ? No exclamation mark in a yellow triangle?
What DVD's won't it run-commercial (retail) movies, or discs you are attempting to burn ? If the latter, what brand of discs.

If it definitely requires a firmware update then it seem's you're out of luck as there are none as far as I can tell.

I have a qsi cdrw/dvd sbw-241 in a hp pavilion laptop - XP. I cant burn anything anymore. This happened before and customer service had me reformat from the recovery disks, which i dont want to repeat. I have found a patch which i need to run from dos after using a boot disk. I made a boot diskette then transferred it to CDr on another computer so i could run it on my computer. Changed the boot order to CD first in bios but windows still loads. I tried a USB floppy drive with the boot disk itself (boot disk worked on another computer) and it tried to work but gave me a i/o error message.

I have an external firewire dvd writer that I wanted to flash upgrade, unfortunately the fashing program only works over an IDE interface.Short of removing the drive from the case and connecting the drive to an IDE channel (which would invalidate the warantee)is there any way of flashing over a firewire connection?

Answer:Firmware flashing

Ask yourself three questions......a) will flashing the firmware make any noticeable difference, b) will it cure any problems that I am having, c) do I really need to and will it make my life better. If you answer no to any one then forget it. If it will make a difference save the exe file to the ext HD and run the flash update, it will automatically find the writer as it should do if you run it from the HD. I would turn off your AV assuming that the file is from a reputable source.G

It has trouble loading up, and it doesn't recognize her DVD-ROM drive. I tried doing an upgrade install, but that didn't help-the only other thing I can think of is to do a fresh install of Windows, but even that might not work. Otherwise, we'd have to send in the computer and have them remove the drive and install a new one (it's not removable, it's fixed). It's a Gateway computer running XP PRO

I also checked update history and the firmware is not yet included. I tried it again the next morning, clicked the update button, but still, it just says updating and can go on until you close the portal.  Any solution? The firmware is contained in the DVD drive's electronics and you shouldn't have any problem, providing the firmware update was completed correctly. If you have any doubts and it's working OK, you could always do the upgrade again.

I have the Netgear MR814 (v1) router, and it's not working like it used to. The IP Reservation interface has become messed up, so that now I can't use it... the port forwarding is messed up, too. My question is: Will reinstalling the firmware do anything? Also, are there any 3rd party firmwares out there for this router?

My only suggesting would be to grab the manual for it and find out how to reset it completely. If nothing has changed then Firmware upgrades will not likely do anything.

Question: WRT54G Firmware

Hey guys.
After some thinking on the matter, I've come to the decision that I'll at least TRY to keep my wrt54g and get it working. However, I've heard a bunch of talk about using aftermarket firmware. I was wondering what one you guys would recommend. I've seen stuff about both Sveasoft firmwares, as well as several others. I'm in the dark as to what to go with.

Any advice?
-Ghent

Answer:WRT54G Firmware

Sveasoft - if you want a lot of features and a fruity GUI
OpenWRT - if you want even more feature but a command line interface (unix users tend to like this one)
HyperWRT - if you only want increased TX power over the stock firmware
DD-WRT - if you like the Sveasoft firmware but think the guy that runs the company is an ass (he is)

Also, if you have a version 4 unit, you're pretty much stuck with openwrt.

Do DLink Routers have 3rd Firmware like Many Linksys Routers have? If so, could someone please point me in the general direction? Thanks. Google, is not an acceptable answer The initial firmware that comes with it simply baffles me.

Thanks again

Answer:Dlink Firmware.

It depends on the router, and mainly what OS it's running. For example, there is custom firware for the DSL-G604 because it's running MontaVista linux to support the TI AR7 dsl chipset, but other Dlink routers may run other types of embedded OS which don't easily support 3rd party firmware design.

Likewise, the Linksys WRT54G and its variants are running a linux based OS, but other products such as the BEFSR41, while somewhat similar in hardware architecture, don't run the same OS which isn't as flexible to 3rd party modifications.

So it really depends what OS the product is running as to the easy of developing and installing custom firmware.

I have a linksys wrt54g router and I need a hacked firmware that can do the following thing.

I need more advanced logging of incoming and outgoing. I would also like it if it would automatically resolve dns addresses. Could someone point me to some good firmware that can do this?

Thanks

Hi folks!

I have a Sony VAIO computer with a DVR-108 DVD burner installed. The current firmware available is 1.19, but the firmware on my drive is 1.10. For some reason, I am unable to upgrade the firmware using the firmware installer software. Normally I wouldn't worry too much about it, but my drive supports burning at 16X speeds with DVD+R discs, and I am only getting 4X burn speeds with the 16X discs I bought! (and yeah, they are good quality media!)

I actually get 12X speeds with my 8X discs, but am getting 4X speeds with 16X discs! what a mess!

I have done my share of googling to figure out how to flash the firmware, but nothing seems to help - it's a little overly complicated for me! When I run the installer, it tells me that the device is not found. Argh!

does anyone have anything to offer that might help?

thanks in advance!

I'm quite content with the features of the stock firmware that the WRT54G v2 has but theres one thing in particular I was wondering if an open source firmware could provide. I'm wondering if there is a firmware out there that boosts the power to the antenna. my router is upstairs and downstairs the signal is spotty at best. I'm considering buying an external antenna but I was thinking that just boosting the power maybe enough. Does anyone have any knowledge on WRT54G firmwares? Any help would be much appreciated.

Answer:best WRT54G firmware?

http://www.sveasoft.com/ is one of the more popular firmware versions out there. This one will allow you to boost your signal like you wanted to.

Question: Barracuda firmware

I have a HP Z800 which has a Seagata Barracuda ST31500341AS which I would like to upgrade the firmware for. Seagate has "4D8H-SD1B" as the latest version. My disk doesn't have firmware from Seagate though, but "HP23" that came with it when shipped. Does this contain changes from HP that are needed or useful? I tried to find the latest version of the HP firmware as well. On http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=0&... I find "HP26 Rev. B (14 Mar 2011)", but only some other models of Barracuda disks are listed (ST3500620AS, ST750630AS, ST31000340AS). I'm wondering if my model shouldn't be listed there as well. I'm also wondering if HPs firmware for these disks add something that is needed or useful, or if I could use Seagate's own.

Answer:Barracuda firmware

Firmware HP26 Rev. B (14 Mar 2011)" only applies to Seagate drives... ST3500620AS, ST750630AS, and ST31000340AS. You can not flash the firmware to Seagate version... the flash routine will kick out an error. Please send KUDOs

Im not sure how to update my firmware. Im having trouble burning CD-Rs with nero 7.0 because it keeps coming up with this calibration error. I posted that thread in this same forum ( http://forums.techguy.org/multimedia/453562-nero-issues-data-disks.html)
but it just leads to this new question about updating my firmware because it might be a possibility. Im also running SP1.

I went to this page called "the firmware page" link- (http://forum.rpc1.org/dl_all.php) and searched for my Disk Drive but had no luck in finding it. Even if I were to find it, how would I go about updating it, and how can I tell if its up to date?

Im running win XP and it is a Toshiba Qosimo laptop e15-av101
I looked in my computer/cd drive/ properties to see the name of my drive and hopfully I have the right one, it is a

Face it, CD/DVD/BLU-RAY all use firmware on their drives, digital cameras use it, USB uses it, video cards on computers use it; pretty much every different kind of hardware I can think of uses firmware.

Firmware is burned program code and data, so all hardware needs program code and data memory to execute.

Aside from programming for hardware directly, all hardware seems to have burned program code in one way or another.

Mice devices/point and click devices have firmware, keyboards, etc.

Is there any hardware that doesn't use firmware?

Answer:Does all hardware need firmware?

The speakers plugged into the computer (unless they are USB).

A basic desk lamp.

Question: WRT54G2 Firmware

Is there any open source firmware for these routers yet? Something like Tomato or DD-WRT? I cant seem to find anything for it so if anyone has any recommendations or advice I would appreciate it.

Its Version 1.5 I believe but Im not positive on that. Ill check when I get home.

Answer:WRT54G2 Firmware

DD-WRT supports the WRT54G2. Its a bit picky and doesn't use a standard method for loading the firmware, but build 13064 runs just fine. Only downside is you are limited to micro due to only 2MB of flash memory.

I recently bought a USB3.0 Expansion Card for my DC7800 CMT.  Even though I boot up from the Usual places (On board USB 2.0, CD, HD) I can't boot from the USB 3 card.  Is there a Setting like "Secure Boot" that I have to adjust, or is there an Option Rom I have to get, or is it something in MEBx I have to do to get this working?I have an Intel Core2Quad installed, and the full 8G of Ram, and I am using a ATI Radeon Expansion Video Card in the PCI-E 16x Slot. The Card in Question that I cannot boot from (but once booted from the other places, it works fine (I think as USB3?)) is a 5 Port USB 3.0 to PCI-E PCI Express Card Adapter w/ Motherboard 19/20 pin. Question: Lite-On Firmware

I've just this day got my lovely new Lite-ON SOHW-1673S. So I bought myself some Memorex DVD-R's to burn some stuff off, & to my suprise, the disc's are supported. Sorry, the brand's -R discs aren't supported. I have a Memorex DVD+R which has been burnt onto by a friend (who also has a Lite-On drive, be a earlier drive) and that worked fine. But my reason for asking for guidence is that I went onto the LiteOn website for the firmware update so my drive would support more media, but I can't seem to download the update. The link for the .zip file just send you in a loop! The link is...click hereI don't understand what Im doing wrong. So if anyone knows of anywhere else I can get this update, I'd be most greatful! Thank You

I have just noticed a reference where a person needs to update his DVD-RW firmware to a more recent version in order to be able to burn a specific type of disk. I think I am right in thinking that the firmware is burned into the device itself, in this case a DVD writer? Anyway assuming I am right, if you were to download a firmware update in the form of a zip file, when you extract it how would the data know where to go? In other words when you normally extract a zip file you are given the option of installing it to a specific part of your hard drive like your download folder for example. Just out of curiosity, would the firmware data know that it has to go on the DVD-RW EPROM chip? I assume it's an EPROM chip?I have never had the need to do this myself but I am intrigued by the method of how it is actually achieved! Anyone out there who has ever updated their firmware and if so is it an easy thing to do or do you have to be technically minded? I appreciate your help.

Answer:Updating CD/DVD ROM firmware

You will need to download not just the firmware update but also a small program to run it.The update run program is usually also on the manufacturers site.I did this for My BTC DVD burner in my old computer.Rember the old adage."IF IT AINT BROKE DONT TRY AND FIX IT".A failed firware uodate can render the equipment useless.

I am thinking of buying a Sony DW-Q30A-B2 DVD burner. I see it's for a good price and the reviews aren't bad. You only get the drive. But when I googled the model I didn't see any manual or firmware information.

I can get along without a manual, but since I don't see any firmware info on the model does that mean its firmware doesn't have to be updated?

I have Aspire E 14. Last night, I saw I have 1 critical update for firmware v1.17. When I clicked the update button it just says "updating" It just goes on and is not stopping. I closed the portal and a window appears saying reflashing. I saw it did reflash up to 100%, but why won't the critical update notification disappear on Acer Care Center portal? I also checked update history and the firmware is not yet included. I tried it again the next morning, clicked the update button, but still, it just says updating and can go on until you close the portal.  Any solution? Did my Aspire really did reflash? It seemed nothing has changed. Thanks in advance!
