Synaptics Touch Driver Not working in Windows 8 Sony Vaio

Question: Synaptics Touch Driver Not working in Windows 8 Sony Vaio

Greetings,

I have recently Install Windows 8 Pro, I have Sony Vaio VPCEE3J0E. Initially, I downloaded Sony's Pointing Driver (Alps) - 7.107.505.106 and it was just for basic touchpad function.
However, I found about Synaptics and downloaded the latest Synaptics V 16.2.21 and installed it.

Now once I go to my Control Panel ==> Mouse ==> Synaptic Properties, it shows nothing, there isn't any option for touchpad gesture etc.

I don't know why it isn't working but I think it should have worked. Please if anyone could help me.

Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

One more thing I don't know why, no matter how many times I install in my
pointing device properties ==> Device Settings, I have Standard Pointing Device instead of Synaptics Pointing Device.

Is it that my notebook doesn't support Synaptics drivers

Hi,

I am using Sony Vaio CS17G with W7 Pro x86. Mostly I use a USB Mouse with my notebook.

Lately, I have observed that the notebook's touchpad has been behaving erratic. At times;

1) Right click menu is opened when clicking left buttons or tapping on the pad.
2) Sometimes, it keeps selecting the files while simply moving around the toucpad.
3) Left & Right Buttons of the pad do not respond.

and so on. The problem looks to be of the drivers.

Should I simply unistall & re-install the Synaptics Pointing Driver for 32bit available here.

Answer:Sony Vaio CS17G - Touch Pad not working Properly?

The short answer - yes

It certainly can't hurt to give it a go.
Get the download from the link you have posted ensuring that you
choose the Pro version for 32 bit if that is in fact what you are using
according to your spec info.

Use the download link located under the 4 step download and install instructions (download link not seen in provided image).

I would recommend downloading the driver, uninstalling the currently installed driver
through device manager and then without rebooting (so Windows does not get a chance to auto find hardware driver software) install the driver.

Uninstall current driver:
Start Button (Windows orb) -> Control Panel -> Device Manager -> Expand Mice and Pointing Devices -> Uninstall current touchpad driver -> install downloaded driver -> check in device manager that the device is functioning properly

Good luck

I have an Sony Vaio VGN-NR430E with windows Vista. This laptop has a semi-sordid history. After being out of service for almost a year with a checksum error, I was finally able to get it up and running by a complete reformat and reinstall of Vista. The touchpad was already not working at that point (but it was a lesser problem then the checksum error).

I have managed to get the laptop completely working again. But the touchpad is completely dead. There are no drivers for the touchpad displayed in device manager - despite manually installing the correct ALPS driver. I have tried a dell driver fix I read about elsewhere, and also a file renaming solution for XP here - neither worked (the latter disabling my keyboard and mouse and I had to system restore).

Anyone have any ideas? Thank you so much for your time!

Answer:Sony Vaio with Vista - Touchpad not working, no driver visible

Hi,

When you say there is no driver displayed in the Device Manager console, is there an entry anywhere in Device Manager that appears as something like 'Unknown device' or that has a yellow exclamation mark in the device icon? This would usually mean that Vista 'sees' the device but doesn't recognise what it is. If you see anything like this, right-click the entry and select 'Uninstall'. You can then do one of two things: you can either click the button at the top entitled 'Scan for hardware changes', or restart the computer. Either way Windows should hopefully re-install the correct driver for your touchpad, as long as it's still on your hard drive somewhere where it can find it.

Post back here if you still get problems. Hope this helps.

Jon.

Dear Anyone

This is a common problem with Sony and Nvidia where I cannot install the driver to make the graphics card work.

I installed windows 7 ultimate 32 bit and have tried all the suggestions I can find to install the display driver with no luck.

I have tried modifying the installation file with the mobility modder program, changing the INF file and trying the latest driver from NVIDIA all with absolutely no luck.

Any idea at all

Thanks

Hi!
I have something of a problem. Rather, my friend who I've been helping does. He recently bought a new laptop -- a Sony Vaio F series (model SVF15A18CXB), but very much dislikes Windows 8.
After a lot of fiddling around, we successfully uninstalled Windows 8, and then installed Windows 7.

The problem is, Sony seems to have only made drivers for this model specifically for Windows 8.
We've managed to find drivers for almost everything that needs a driver installed - Bluetooth, network card, audio, and so on - but we've not been able to find drivers for the Wireless LAN component (BCM43142 Wireless Network Adapter).

The specs of the computer can be found here, if it helps, and the drivers that work for Windows 8 on the Sony site here.

He's running Windows 7 Home Premium, 64 bit.
We've tried the official drivers, and done some searching for other ones, but haven't had any luck in getting the wireless working yet. At something of a loss about what to do, does anyone have any advice?
Is there any more information that would help narrow down our options?

Thanks!

My sound isn't working on my laptop. It's a Sony Vaio with Windows XP. I couldn't find any settings off or warning markers in Device Manager or anywhere else. All the default settings appear to be in proper order, but there's simply no sound coming through. I've done scans with Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials, and nothing has come up. Please help.

Answer:Sound not working on Sony Vaio, with Windows XP

Hi Onefistgel

This may be really stupid, but it is often the simplest things that get overlooked ! You haven't got the 'Mute' switch on have you ?

I think there is a physical switch for this on the Vaio, above and to the right of the keyboard. Failing that, there is normally a little loudspeaker symbol at the right hand end of the task bar which, if you click on it, will show you the state of the mute switch and volume level. And if that doesn't work, 'Control Panel' - 'Sound'.

Best of luck,

Chris Cosgrove

The usual location to get drivers for a Sony Vaio is at the Sony website. But nothing pertaining to the webcam was listed under the Download tab. All I can suggest is to use their Contact Us link at the lower left of the webpage and ask customer support where they've hidden the webcam driver.

I have bought a sony vaio SVE14A15FNS laptop yesterday. The mousepad is a single button mousepad. I find that the mouse pad is slightly slanted i.e., as it goes towards the right, the mouse pad goes slightly inside the slot. You can have a look at this link for an example
http://www.notebookcheck.net/uploads/pics/fe31ansichttouchpad_02.jpg
If you see towards the right it slightly goes inside. Wanted to know, if that is how Sony is designed or its a defect. I lost sleep over this last night :(.

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-AW190 that originally came with Vista Home 64bit. I did an *UPGRADE* to Windows 7 Beta (build 7000) which worked fine for a while, aside expected petty bugs. Then, last night had a mishap with some registry cleaner which messed up the registry for good with no system restore hope or repair of any kind. So, this time I did a fresh format and installed W7 again (instead of using Sony recovery CD's + step 2 to upgrade back to W7).

However, the problem is the special buttons are not working at all (eject, S1, S2, multimedia, AV Mode), etc. I did install al Sony drivers/software from that model's driver page (sonystyle.com). I rebooted as it instructed to do during install. The main software were the notebook utilities, but I installed almost everything on the list. I tried 3 times now. Still do not work.

Any suggestions on this?

On a side note, in windows explorer group by type method works in just about eveyr folder except Documents which never remembers my settings. Likely a bug, but anyone know of a temp fix for now?

Just for clarification, I indeed installed the 64 bit Vista Ultimate versions of the drivers/software. Also, these all worked fine when I did a simple upgrade from the original Vista recovery CD's. However, you all know the deal with bloatware and that clean installs are better.

Answer:Sony Vaio Special Buttons / Windows 7 Not Working

I ended up doing a full recovery CD restore and then upgrade to W7 again.

Now, I have a new problem. The dolby control center (guess this is party of the Realtek driver/utility) is giving me an error:

So, I downloaded the driver again from Sony's site for my model. Reinstalled, rebooted. Same problem.

But, the sound itself works just fine. Realtek shows up in the sound control bar area and works fine, green check and all.

So the problem is within the dolby control center itself. Strange enough I do recall that this is not installed by that Realtek download from Sony's site (I remember this when I had installed W7 on a fresh format last month). It also does show up as a separate install in programs list in the control panel. There is a repair option too, that didn't fix anything.

Answer:sony vaio's built in bluetooth not working with windows 7

Hello roxiedg and welcome to Seven Forums.

Before trying to add a bluetooth device in windows 7 there are a couple of things you need to do.

- Make sure that wireless is enabled on the laptop (my Sony has a switch on the front). Bluetooth is wireless and, typically, when that switch is turned off, all wireless is turned off as well including 802.11a/b/g/n and also Bluetooth.
- Make sure that any proprietary software you have that controls power or wireless function has Bluetooth enabled.
- You may also need to update the bluetooth driver for whatever device you're trying to install. I'd suggest the device manufacturer's web site.

Toshiba released an updated Synaptics touch pad driver yesterday that fixed my scrolling issues:

I had 2-finger scroll but not 1-finger scroll. I tried a solution of adding a DWORD to the registry that did not work (and I won't repost here since it didn't work).

The file is 168 MB so...it may take awhile to download. A reboot is required.

Good luck,

I attempted to disable the pointing device (touch pad) on the keyboard since I'm using an external mouse and I often make the mouse move with my wrists leaning on the touch pad. The first thing I disabled was the touch screen driver. I re-enabled that OK. But when I un-installed the driver for what was called the Synaptics touch pad, the touch pad remained operational. So I don't know what I un-installed, and I cannot get the system to recognize any new hardware with a hardware scan. Was the Synaptics touch pad driver something extraneous that isn't used? Thanks for your help. Lee

I am currently working on a friends Sony Vaio laptop VPCC series and have encountered the following problems.

Upon booting message states:"imminent Hard Disk Failure" back up all you data. I did this. I then attempted making recovery disks...would not go beyond 44% on Disk 1. Recovery programs tells me that 3 disks will be required.

Replaced HDD with a new drive of like quality...was able to enter BIOS using F2 key...pressed "boot from Optical Drive". Inserted a new OEM copy of Win7...was able to get beyond the first few questions of installing the new OS, 1. Country, 2. Language, 3. Keyboard...pressed "Next", the machine began scanning...then "unable to install on this disk...Unallocated space, etc. Tried formatting HDD...would not create a partition. I feel that the problem lies in the MFR proprietary options that are not allowing me to install my fresh copy of Windows 7 OS.

The installed Sony Vaio Care program will not even let me create recovery disks. Any ideas out there, besides telling my buddy to relegate this Laptop to the paper weight category and never buy Sony again!

Don't mean to be a Sony basher...but after several hours with negative results, i have lost my patience with this machine. The machine is only 2 yrs old...and the HDD is about to crash...can't believe it.

Hi,

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NS30E, on which I am running Windows 7. All of a sudden I am getting an error message that one of the USB devices is not recognised and this device appears to be the Sony Visual Communication Camera (Motion Eye) webcam, which has worked before on Windows 7.

It uses the following drivers:
ArcSoftKsUFilter.sys
usbvideo.sys

I would appreciate if someone could help with this issue as Sony are washing their hands off it (my laptop is 2 years old and therefore out of warranty).

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello roddy and welcome to Seven Forums.

Couple of possibilities. You could go to the start menu and type in Device Manager and then click on Device Manager. A dialog box will open. Look for Imaging Devices in the left column and click the little arrow to the left. Then double click on the camera and click the Driver tab. Try updating your driver.

Or you could go to the Sony eSupport website, enter your country and model number, and look for the necessary driver(s).

Hello

My fairly new Toshiba Equium laptop has the synaptics touchpad which worked ok until a few days ago and i can only move the cursor now, and not scroll in any direction.

I have recently installed Vista SP1.

When i have found the application and tried to open this to enable it, i receive an error message saying it cannot be found. Also, after visiting the Synaptics web page to download the latest driver it tells me to refer to Toshibas support pages, but there is nothing here.

Can anyone let me know how to re-enable this please?

Thanks

Answer:Synaptics touch pad not working

What model number do you have? Toshiba should have a support page with the synaptics software you need - if they don't have it listed you may need to give them a call and get a copy sent out. The software may be on the driver disks that came with the laptop.

Did the touchpad scoll stop working at the exact same time you installed SP1? If not, you could try a system restore (by rolling back the system a few days) and see if that helps

I downloaded the manual. The touchpad is explained on p17 of the manual. Since the notebook came with 8.1 and I can only find drivers for Windows 8, you may not get full usage out of the hardware because you are not running the correct version of Windows. The best drivers come from the hardware manufacturer and they are no providing any Win 7 drivers.

It came with win8, but I put in a new ssd and installed win7 pro ( I am tech support and I hate win8 and don't know it well enough to take care of the inevitible support issues). I downloaded all the appropriate drivers from the Lenovo website for the correct version of windows and this machine. Everything seemed to work fine. Then, for quite a while, when I booted the machine it would start up with the energy management software, or the keyboard, or the one touch keys and/or the touchpad, or all of the above, not working. Or the touchpad would eventually work, but with almost no functionality and the synaptics setup tab showing only a patent, and no options for tweaking the touchpad. And the Fn F6 buttons might show the icon for the touchpad being shut off, but is was not. I uninstalled, reinstalled, tried different versions, eventually I thought I had it beat. I could boot the machine and everything actually works. Until today. After several reboots the keyboard and touchpad were refusing to work. Then after several more boots, the keyboard worked, but not the TP. Then the TP would work, but with limited functionality. A few more reboots and the TP is working as it should. I thought maybe having my corded mouse plugged in when booting might be confusing it somehow, but unplugging it and several reboots later there was no joy. Other times it lit right up with the mouse plugged in and the TP worked as i... Read more

Answer:Sony Vaio Laptop Sound Driver Driver Needed

There is an auto-detect at Sony that should take you to yor model and then you should be able to select drivers for it. The audio ones are pretty far down the list. Here's the link:
http://esupport.sony.com/perl/select-system.pl?PRODTYPE=1,24,26,66,9,70,5,72
When I entered the model # you posted, at Sony support, it took me to these models:
VGN-FE770G
VGN-FE780G
VGN-FE790
VGN-FE790G
VGN-FE790G/N
VGN-FE790P
I think your number may have been a series number.
They all use the Sigmatel HD audio driver:
ftp://download.sony.com/US/pc/STDAUD-01098107-US.EXE

These are the installation instructions:
To ensure that no other program interferes with the installation, save all work and close all other programs. The Taskbar should be clear of applications before proceeding.
Download the STDAUD-01098107-US.EXE file to a temporary or download directory (please note this directory for reference).
Go to the directory where the file was downloaded and double-click the STDAUD-01098107-US.EXE file to begin the installation.
At the "SigmaTel« High Definition Audio Device Driver for Microsoft« Windows« XP" screen, click "Next".
At the "License Agreement" dialog, read the agreement, then, if you agree, click "I Agree" to continue with the installation. NOTE: Several setup boxes may briefly appear during the installation. As the files are installed, these boxes will close automatically.

Hi Folks, This is my first post. so go easy on me;-)

I switched on my PC after 1 year of no use(apple imac distracted me for a while).
The message "operating system not found" appears when it boots up. I put in the Sony Recovery disk, bit it could not read it. As Sony didn't provide a spare copy of XP, how do I get back up and running? Do I have to change the motherboard battery? any advice much appreciated.

I Hope you Christmas is Merry and peaceful.

Cheers,
Dryfly

Answer:Sony Vaio Desktop PCV-RX305 Windows XP now missing, no disks supplied by Sony

Call Sony Tech Support if you are the registered owner or buyer. They will provide a disk set for a small fee ($27) for six years after purchase, or until they run out.
Your only other choice is to buy the disk online at some place like ebay, or buy Windows Home (still available for $82) or Windows XP Professional for $135.
The motherboard battery should not be bad, but if it is, you can get a replacement (CR2032) at Wal-Mart ofr $3.67 or on eBay for $2.58.
The recovery disk may be good, and it is your optical drive that has gone bad.

Hi, my first post here

As the title says, im having problems with my VGN-FZ4000 webcam. I`ve read almost every post on the web, some on this forum, downloaded tons of drivers, but nothing seems to work.

Right now, in the device manager, the webcam is shown as "Sony Visual Communication Camera VGP-VCC6". With this driver i managed to lit the little green led next to the cam, but the cam shows just a black screen. (tested with "MSN Live 2009" and "ArcSoft Webcam Companion" - downloaded from Sony eSupport)

Again, i have a VGN-FZ4000 running Win7 Ultimate 32bits.

I beg for any help. Its been almost 2 months already im trying to make this little [email protected]#$ to work.
Thanks!

Answer:Sony Vaio webcam driver - need help

Welcome to the forum,

So is there a notification symbol next to "Sony Visual Communication Camera VGP-VCC6"

in device manager?

I'm guessing this vaio originally came with Vista? did the webcam work before?

Here's some possible help listed here,

Hi everybody

I guess I'll start from the beginning. My fiance decided that it wasnt worth updating her antivirus software, and ended up with a bunch of viruses. She asked me to help, and I tried but couldnt do much. I told her she would have to take it to a specialist or reformat it. She reformatted it.

I am trying to figure out what types of drivers fit into this computer. It doesnt help that the OS is in Swedish and I cant speak Swedish..

Does anybody on this forum have any idea what a Sony Vaio VGN - CR41, originally running Vista, but now running Windows 7 would need in the way of drivers, or can anybody point me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance

Hey everybody,

I am at a bit of a lose end and was wondering if anybody at all new how to fix this...

I have a friends laptop which is a Sony Vaio VGN-NR32L Model - PCG-7134M

I have re-installed there Windows Vista 64bit edition and have everything working apart from the Wireless LAN... The Ethernet network adaptor is Marvell Yukon and i have that working however i know the WLAN is Atheros but i cannot find the correct driver for it anywhere and when i do it is a bunch of SYS file's and Security Catalogue and i do not know how to use these?

If you could get back to me a.s.a.p please it would be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Stace

Answer:Sony Vaio Wireless Driver

This is a common issue with Vista 64 bit versions. There are many cases where there simply isn't a 64 bit driver available. If Sony doesn't offer one, you may be out of luck.

Why not drop back to Vista 32 bit?

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FS640/W that was just reformatted to Win XP SP2. Everything seems to be working fine except the audio. First off, The headphone jack was just replaced, but because both the headphones and speakers are not working, I'm looking at drivers as the potential problem. I currently have the Realtek High Def Audio driver installed, which is what the Sony website provides. I heard something about a UAA Audio Bus Fix though. Any thoughts?

Answer:Sony VAIO Audio Driver

Greetings, jools1976.

Yeah, the UAA patch might do the trick. Try this:

1. Uninstall the Realtek driver - you might consider running Driver Sweeper to make sure it's cleaned out.
2. Install the UAA patch located here or here.
3. Reboot, then reinstall the Realtek driver.

I have a Sony Vaio VPCCW2S1E. It was upgraded to Windows 10 when the free upgrade became available, but the Nvidia drivers weren't available so I put W7 back on. I now have a new laptop and decided to try upgrading the Sony again so our son can have it.

I have done a few clean installs on other laptops, so did a clean install, after some waiting and doing Windows updates, drivers were all installed, including the Nvidia ones. There are two exclamation marks in device manager. One is for the SFEP driver, the other for the Ricoh memory stick slot.

I have most of the drivers for Windows 7 on an SD card, but Windows 10 won't accept the SFEP driver. Without that the graphics don't work properly apparently.

Also, usually after a clean install on Sony's they need the SFEP, Shared Library and Setting Utility Series drivers adding.

So - does anyone know where I can get the SFEP driver (or the others) that will work with Windows 10? Sony's drivers webpage for this model no longer seems to be there.

I believe shared library and setting utility are needed to ensure function keys work and SFEP works with the NVidia drivers. Anyway although Windows 10 was working without them, the laptop got extremely overheated so I'm thinking the SFEP is necessary somehow. It doesn't overheat with Windows 7 on.

I did find this link for SFEP driver for Sony Windows 10 but not sure if it's a good for any model of Sony laptop.

http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/Other-DRIVERS-TOOLS/Sony/Sony-Vaio-... Read more

Answer:Sony Vaio SFEP driver

Also Sony no longer has a support page for this model (it used to have all the drivers etc to download on the support page and the page is no longer there, or the model listed when going onto other Sony support pages).

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-Z820G with an ALPS touchpad. The scrolling on the touchpad stopped working so I did some research and found a recommended method was to uninstall the ALPS driver, reboot and let the computer find the touchpad and reinstall. It didn't work. In fact, now the touchpad does not work at all. Thank goodness I have a wireless mouse to keep functioning.

I then went and found the correct sony Esupport driver site and downloaded the original driver along with a recent update.
Sony eSupport - VGN-Z820G - Drivers & Software

The page specific to my model and operating system states it is for Windows 7 version.

When I install the original driver it fails and tells me that this version is only for Vista and cannot be installed. The update however installs fine but it's only an update and not the entire program.

What do I do now?

Answer:Sony Vaio driver compatibility

Check your manual and make sure there isn't a button or switch on the notebook to disable the touchpad is the first thing I would so. Then if no or it is enabled, check the bios to be sure it is enabled there also.

Hi. I have an old Sony VAIO desktop which I just received from a friend. I formatted the HD (tons of virus activity) and reinstalled Windows XP SP2 from a CD I had; the CD that came with the system had been lost. I was able to update the sound drivers and get most other features working, but I am unable to use DirectX 9. The dxdiag utility says "The system is using the generic video driver. Please install video driver provided by the hardware manufacturer."

Here is my computer's model info:
Model = PCV-RX760(UC)
Motherboard Name = Asus P4S266-VX
Motherboard Chipset = SiS650
Graphics Controller Type = SiS 315
Graphics Controller Status = Enabled

I tried downloading and installing the video driver on that page; it installs fine, but nothing happens after reboot. When I try and re-install it after reboot, it tells me (just like the first time) "This software driver has never been installed in your computer system. Would you like to continue the installation?"

I even downloaded the driver directly from http://sis.com/download and tried to install it. It comes as a setup .exe file; when I run it, it cancels out saying "The setup program cannot find suitable driver. The setup program will terminate."

It seems the original poster in http://forums.techguy.org/hardware/505585-solved-sony-vaio-video-controller.html had a similar problem, but I don't understand what he did to fix it... Read more

Hi, I have a Sony Vaio VGN-SZ750N and bought it with Vista on it. However, recently I upgraded to Windows 7 Pro. Everything works great except for the Display Driver and sometimes the screen starts flickering a lot and the computer hangs. Then I have to restart it. White flickering, the task bar says that "There was a problem with the Display Driver but windows has recovered" even though it hasn't recovered.

I went on the Sony website and they don't have a windows 7 driver for this model.

Can someone please help?

Answer:Sony Vaio Driver Issue

Hi

Is your Windows 7 32bit or 64bit?

Was this an upgrade install from Vista or a clean install of Windows 7?

Did you install the Chipset driver?
In Device Manager do you have any yellow ! marks, if so what?

Plus as that model Sony could use either Intel or Nvidia graphics for Video, could you run the below and attach as the guide mentions the log and we should be able to aim you in the right direction.

Answer:Battery & NIC driver for sony vaio PCG-6Q2M

Do you have the wired network adapter working? if so connect a cable to the router so you can connect to the Internet. Go to the Sony driver site and look for the drivers for your system.Batteries have a life expectancy of 1-3 years before they get so weak that they do not charge. You need to replace the battery and there are many links online for that. There is a possibility that the charge section on the motherboard has failed and that is why it will not charge. Unfortunately very few shops have a battery for testing (I get users looking to see if I can try a battery but we do no stock them).Rich

Well, after eight or so hours on the phone with Sony and no help from them at all, I finally figured out how to install single drivers onto a Sony VAIO notebook (specifially the PCGFRV31).

1st, make sure you have either your created vaio recovery cd set that you should have made when you first booted up the computer, or if you're like me and said, "I don't need that" - just spend the ten bucks and get the recovery dvd kit from sony.

Now, it won't work unless you do this - go to the sony download site for your notebook and download the Sony Shared Libary. Then, put your DVD or CD kit in and viola - you can re-install specific software and drivers.

I found this out after having to replace the hard drive and not wanting to format it the way that the Sony Recovery DVD wants you to (with ghost partitions and stuff). I wanted to do it my own way... so I did... and here's how you can to. This way, you can partition your drive the way you want, install winxp the way you want and only install the programs you want.

I hope that this helps you.

Answer:Sony Vaio Driver help for those who have done a clean install of XP

Maybe I sound like an idiot for posting this in the first place - but after countless hours on the phone with Sony... them telling me there is no way to get drivers or install single programs from their recovery DVD kit... I think this might help some folks out there.

HI

Would love to help you but SONY tend to have proprietory drivers for hardware, even if that audio chip comes from Yamaha so the Yamaha drivers tend to not work, problem is I searched fo rages to find drivers from Sony, but as that Laptop seems a Japanese sold one the only site likely to have drivers is the Sony Support Japan area and as my Japanese is non-existant I'm lost as to the menus.

So try searching Sony Japan for for model Laptop and hopefully they have a page with downloadable drivers here http://www.vaio.sony.co.jp/

I've installed windows 8 pro on a Sony VAIOVPCEB3E1E/PI

Managed to sort everything out apart from the SD Card reader. Device manager recognises the card reader as :

Ricoh PCIe Memory Stick Host Controller

Then when I plug in the SD card I usually use as readyboost, I get an audible ding that it's noticed something there, and it also installs to device manager something called :

SD Storage Class Controller

This however has a yellow exclamation mark, and nothing I do or any driver from the Sony website will fix it.

Pre Windows8 Pro , I had the consumer preview installed, that worked fine and I could use the readyboost.

Anyone got any idea's?

Answer:Anyone help with Richo SD Card Driver on a Sony VAIO

From my experience helping others with this driver, just download the latest and greatest from any distributor. For example, ASUS, ACER, HP etc...

Install and done. Check Device Manager dates to see that the install worked.

hi everyone,,,,
I bought a new sony vaio laptop and its model is VPCEH25EN. I have installed windows 7 ultimate 64 bit, after installing it, installed the drivers which i found in the site sony-asia.com. So my problem is that my function keys are not working. So could anyone tell where can i get the drivers for function keys. I will be very greatful if anybody helps me out.

Answer:sony vaio function keys driver

Sony is very good about putting ALL the drivers needed for all the hardware on their site.

So the driver for the function keys is there. But depending on the model there can be as many as 40 or more installer files!

It took me all evening to download them all, burn a DVD with them and then install them to restore custom hardware functionality after I also wiped and installed a clean Win7. (Of course I left off the bloatware )

So it's surely on the site if you go to the section for your exact model. The only hard part may be that the driver will not say "Function Keys Driver" but will have some compeltely cryptic name like "HWInstaller2"

I would DL everything and install everything but the obvious bloatware. At some point you will find your keys magically start working... (I'm sorry that I don't remember the name of the exact file that got my keys working, but if your laptop was a different model than mine then the driver may be different too)

Your only allowed to make 1 set of Recovery Disc, so have enough DVD ready. I have an HP computer but maybe you can use my directions to find the location to make your Disc.Start - All Programs - Recovery Manager - Click Recovery Manager again -Their will be some things to choose from. Click - Recovery Disc CreationNew page - click Next. If you call to order these CD be prepared to prove that your the owner. It may take 4 DVD, I would have to find and count mine.

Actually upgrading is a good opportunity to update all your drivers anyhow.
I would suggest doing that. If you give the exact model of the laptop I'm sure someone here can point you where all your major drivers are.

Sony Vaio PCG-K33 with
LAN-Express AS IEEE 802.11g miniPCI Adapter
Driver Date: 7/7/2004
Driver Version: 3.1.2.19

It's installed and running but it cannot detect any wireless networks. Have tried updating through windows update, and the sony website update says I have the latest driver.

Any help?

Answer:Solved: Sony Vaio PCG-K33 Wireless Driver

Device Manager says the device is working properly? Maybe there is a way to turn the radio on/off, perhaps through the WLAN management app? Also, be sure there isn't a physical switch on the case that's in the wrong position. (I know some Dell models have this switch and it gets moved accidentally easily!)

I tried installing the driver from the intel website, but they kept directing me to my manufacturer, but when i downloaded from the manufacturer, their drivers only work with windows vista and they dont allow me to install it. i also tried uninstalling and installing the chipset driver, but the problem still exist. hope someone will be able to help! Answer:Sony Vaio Aero not working! ):

Hi there
I'm surprised you got AERO to work in the first place on the sony vaio.
What's the Video card you use in it -- Some VAIO's used the Nvidio GeForce drivers -- try looking to see in device management what the display adapter is.

If it's a Nvidia then go to their site.

I've got an old resurrected VAIO GRT816S laptop - beautiful screen but not AERO capable -- doesn't matter on that laptop. Only 1GB RAM but I DO like the HUGE screen on it. They don't make them like that anymore -- but weighs a ton and has energy consumption that would send the Green Party with a hunting posse to shoot me.

Video is Nvidia GeForce Go5600 (Sony) quite old of course.

Enc screenshot of the video device

Note also that if the laptop doesn't have enough RAM you probably won't be able to turn AERO on anyway.

Cheers

Hello all this is my first post.My sony vail laptop (PCG-V505BP)dvd has stopped working. It plays cd's fine, but when i try to access a dvd the disc is not recognised. Some times when I try a dvd there is a "chugging" sound, but then it fails to read the disc. It may be the laser is bust. Any ideas? if bust anyone know where or what a good replacement/upgrade would be.Regards, casca

Answer:sony vaio laptop cd/dvd not working

Hello casca and welcome to the PCA Forums.Check in system to see if there is an exclamation mark against the drive. If there is follow the wizard for troubleshooting tips or post back here and somebody will help you further. To check the system go to: Start/Settings/Control Panel/System/Device Manager select the drive then Properties. Sorry if this is teaching granny to suck eggs.Your laser may just need cleaning. You can use a CD cleaning disc to do this.

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-AW125J laptop that has been giving me a bit of a headache. I was told by Sony Support that purchasing the ($65.00!) recovery disks would solve the issue, but to no avail. Everytime I start up the computer, it boots up, the Vaio & Windows logos come up. Then it heads straight to a blue-y green screen and just stops. I'm unable to get into Safe Mode either...

I don't know what to do.

Thanks!

Answer:Sony Vaio Recovery CD's Not Working

I have never paid over $25.00 plus shipping for any recover disks from Sony or HP.

Did you do a clean recover using this CD?
You need to have the CD in the drive when you power up.

I now have 2 Sony VGN-TX750 that stopped working after being dropped. I was able to remove the cover and I see no visible signs of damage. One of them will power up and start normally, but when the computer is picked up or pressed on slightly, the screen freezes. The other one will not power up at all. I understand that I can't ask for a specific diagnosis here, but what is most likely wrong with them?

Answer:Sony Vaio not working after being dropped

Try and reseat everything.
Start with the memory. It should be accessable from a panel on the bottom of the laptop.
Check the battery, make sure it is in ok.

Then check the cpu, you will need to put new thermal paste on if you remove the heatsink from the cpu. It should be underneath the keyboard somewhere.

See if you can find disassembly instructions for your laptop. I know I found instructions for my Thinkpad on IBM's site, wonder if sony has anything.

Answer:WebCam not working in Sony Vaio

Hi and welcome

It's possible the software may not be properly configured to the camera. We can try refreshing the device and re-connecting it.

If that doesn't work, then I would suggest the following:

Uninstall and reinstall webcam driver
Download the latest updated drivers for the laptop
Or contact Sony directly if none of these suggestions work

I recently installed a new HDD (Seagate ST9500424AS; p/n 9RW143-567) in my Sony VAIO VPCEH11FX and installed the OS using the Sony VAIO Recovery Media Kit (VPCE_10FX Series 989203008). During the installation, I selected the default or normal settings.

A short while (1-2 weeks) after the installation was complete, I noticed that the track pad was not working after enabling it using Fn+F1. (The pointing device dialog box DOES appear when I press Fn+F1 and shows that it will toggle between enable & disable). I took the computer into Fry's (where I bought it) and they booted a different OS (I think it was Windows XP) using a CD. Using this OS, the track pad worked. So it was confirmed it wasn't a hardware issue.

I proceeded to contact Sony. They had me do the following:
1) download the latest drivers & driver updates and install both. This didn't fix the problem.
2) uninstall 'Alps Pointing-device for VAIO' and run the .exe files for the driver & update. This didn't fix the problem.
3) boot the computer to recovery mode (press F10 when it starts); I noticed that the track pad was working in this mode.
4) Confirm that the other ALT keys functioned properly. (they do function properly)

The Sony rep asked me to confirm the type of HDD I installed (I forget what specifically he was interested in), but upon my reading him the part number, he confirmed the HDD was compatible.

The Sony rep then suggested I either recover the system to a previous version/da... Read more

Answer:Track pad on Sony VAIO not working

Hi, I have the same problem with sony vaio VPCSB2 series.
The Sony support doesn't fix the problem yet.
I founded that the problem is related with the multitouch feature and due to an elettrostatic issue.
anyway in order to use the mouse under windows is possible to disable, in the vaio contro center, the multitouch option and the palm option.
In this way the touch lost the multiouch features but work correctly or almost correctly in my case.
Anyway I'm waiting from the vaio support a complete solution. In my opinion a device substitution.

"I've balked at doing either, as I'm guessing there is an issue with the registry"

System Restore will restore the Registry (and system files) back to how they were when the chosen restore point was created, so I don't understand why you don't like the idea of trying that.

I own a Sony Vaio (model: VGN-AR51J) which has a built-in webcam (model name/ USB Video Device 05ca:1839) and it does not work.
This problem started ever since I installed windows 7 onto my laptop. Before, it had windows vista installed onto it and the webcam was working fine.
I've tried updating the driver, entering the bios and restoring factory settings, going onto the sony website and downloading the original driver pack and tried a bunch of driver updating programs but still, I can't get the webcam to work.
Before when I was using windows vista, I could see the driver which was called: Sony Visual Communication Camera but now, it is just named: USB video device.
Any idea on how I can get the webcam to work with windows 7? And would re-installing windows vista help resolve the issue?
Thanks.
P.S I have also posted this on the sony forum and contacted sony via email but I haven't got a response yet :(.

Hi, I am hoping someone can help me please.

I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FW48E laptop which I have managed to bust.

I used the recovery centre to wipe the drive and now the machine won't reinstall the operating system using the recovery disc, it says 'unable to locate recovery drive letter' I have tried all options available in the recovery centre on the disc but keep coming back to the same problem.

The HDD seems fine and is recognised as C by the BIOS.

Answer:Sony VAIO VGN-NR21Z not working

Hard drive is going bad, perhaps. I would save your data now, if you can.
That Sony has difficult cooling channels... You might want to clean it up with some Q-tips and a can of dust off or other "treated" canned air, and some denatured alcohol.

If the hard drive is not going bad, it is likely still going to require a complete reformat and reinstall.

So, yesterday, I wanted to turn battery care off and I couldn't. I had to install a series of drivers and components for it to turn off. It finally worked somehow.
Somewhere in the middle of doing that, the FN keys stopped working. I have the VAIO Event services and it's currently started. Still nothing.
I have a Sony VAIO VPCEB32FM with Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit.
If you can help, that'd be great because I tend to use FN quite a lot.
Also, I think one of the services or drivers caused a slight black-screen delay after the welcome screen.
Update: The volume one works, but it doesn't show the little popup when I turn the volume up/down/mute. The other ones still don't work such as brightness, zoom, etc.

Answer:FN keys on Sony Vaio not working

Hello CamiKitti and welcome to Seven Forums.

Without knowing which "series of drivers and components" you installed to eventually turn off battery care, it's impossible to offer a definitive fix for your current issues. Try using system restore to roll back your computer to a date/time prior to having the battery care problem. Your Vaio should now be in the same condition as before (unable to turn off battery care) but the Fn keys should be working.

System Restore

Instead of haphazardly installing drivers and components did you attempt to use the diagnostic tools provided through Vaio Care? It works very well to maintain my VPCEB47GM using Sony approved drivers and components when called for. If you don't have Vaio Care installed there's a link in the third blog comment.

Tips & Tricks: What is VAIO Care

If Vaio Care can't solve your battery care issue and if you feel the need to reinstall the drivers and components that led to your Fn key problems, I'd suggest you install just one driver or component at a time. Immediately reboot the Vaio to make sure everything is still working properly. Then install the second driver or component, reboot, check for proper operation. Either everything will install correctly and your computer will still function properly, or you will know exactly which driver or component is messing up.

Hi

Hi. My SONY laptop model VGN-FW48E. Running on Win Vista s.p 2.
Since last 2 days Audio stopped working completely.

It shows the sound icon on start menu bar. But enables only HDMI audio.

Speaker audio or Mic not working. Also i dont see any those devices on playback device tab.

I downloaded and installed software driver for audio few times already.
I updated BIOS as well.

I tired one whole day doing these things and went to bed. Next day morning i saw Sound is working again. I thought everything is fine. But When i restart the Vaio, sound lost again.
Finally I restored C drive using Vaio Recovery tool. Installed BIOS and Sound Driver from sony website.
Still I managed to enable only HDMI audio. Im so so fed up with trying so many times.
I can confirm nothing wrong with Sound card. This must be software/Driver or OS issue as i can see. But i dont know how to fix.

Please tell me how can i get my audio back.
Thank you in advance.

Rayan

Just yesterday....my ati radeon inbuilt graphic card started behaving badly and erratic symbols lines came over the screen many times went blank. And errors too started coming that your ati video drivers just overcame serious errors and is now behaving properly....And my pc laptop completely went unresponsive. I had to restart it several times ...is this a hardware wearout?
Then i did a factory reset.
But still BSOD bluescreen errors came up thrice. The harddrive is working fine. So what is limiting the proper functioning of my sony vaio....kindly give me advice on how to correct my pc?
