Went through to Windows 7 installation, deleted wrong HDD volume..

Question: Went through to Windows 7 installation, deleted wrong HDD volume..

I had all my files saved on the secondary Western Digital 160GB Sata HDD, it was listed first at the time... But I accidentally deleted the volume on it.. Is there a way to get those files back? I had photos, movies, music, some other important files. The whole reason for having them on that secondary drive was to save them (kicking myself), until I installed Windows 7 on the new 500GB Sata HDD... I got a copy of Paragon Partition Manager 11 Personal ... and going through the Undelete Partition wizard now... Any help? Suggestions? Thanks in advance!

PS. I just did the "delete" option in the Windows 7 installation section for "advanced options", the HDDs were there.. but I accidentally hit delete on the 160GB instead... That's all I did with the drive though.

Preferred Solution: Went through to Windows 7 installation, deleted wrong HDD volume..

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Went through to Windows 7 installation, deleted wrong HDD volume..

To try and answer your question; yes and no. You can take the drive and try to have it professionally recovered. There are some companies out there that specifically recover data from these types of situations. This can be very expensive and no guarantee. I know this not what you wanted to here.

I have 3 hdd in my system and have made notations as to the location of each drive and how the OS see's each of them...ie 0 is hard drive 1, 1 is hard drive 2 and 2 is hard drive 3, which is the way I have mine installed in the hdd cage...I know that hdd 0 is the 1TB drive and hdd 1 and 2 are 320 GB for backups and data storage. Keeping in mind each drive letter that the OS assigns to each of them. So when a re-install of the OS comes along I know what hdd is what and where.

I keep getting this message whenever I need to open up the task manager. It has become an annoyance, but now I am wondering if it is something I should be concerned about. Here's what it says:
Windows-Wrong Volume

Anyone have any idea what that means?

Answer:Windows-Wrong Volume

Apparently after I shut down and rebooted the computer, message went away in its entirety. Is this related to the UnrealTournament 2004 patch I just downloaded and installed? Otherwise I am good to go I assume.

I am using Windows XP and found that Windows deleted my files wrongly.

Few days ago, I deleted total 7 video files (eg. filename: 1.mpg, 2.mpg....7.mpg) in my external hard disk thru Windows Explorer. Today, when I try to play a video file (eg. filename: a.mpg) in the same external hard disk, the video shows the content of one of the deleted file. So I checked all other remaining video files in the hard disk, and the result is all 7 deleted video files are still in the hard disk (which means a.mpg became 1.mpg, b.mpg became 2.mpg etc).

Does anybody knows what's wrong with this?

Thanks!

Hi,

please help!

I tried this method, forgetting my dual boot was configured to use W8 VHD (I should've removed the VHD first insteasd of just deleting the partition).

Now I can't boot into Windows 7 (or obviosuly Windows 8).

I get this:

Error Code 0xc000000e

Your PC doesn't have the Windows Recovery Environment installed. You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer

It appears to still be trying to look for the W8 partition. Please help

Hi all, I really hope someone out there can help me. It all began when I offered to copy a data CD for my nephew. Only because I recently rebooted XP I had to reintstall my Nero6 software to burn it and my Hewlitt Packard PSC 3180 to print off some instructions.I set about installing the Nero6 software and that went in no problems. But I think what I did next was what caused the trouble I'm now having. Leaving the Nero6 Interface open, I then replaced the Nero disc for the HP printer disc and straightway got this error message come up; you know the one, with the red circle and white cross in it. It read, 'Wrong volume in drive. Please insert Volume Software into drive (Q:). I could see the Hewlitt Packard interface behind this error message but no way could I close the error message window. I tried Task Manager and that wouldn't budge it either.I opened My Computer and noticed that instead of the Hewlitt Packard icon in the DVD drive there was the Nero installation icon instead with the name 'CDA_Default-Expr (Q:) I had no option but to close down XP manually and restart it. I then did a System Restore and reinserted the Hewlitt Packard disc and this time there was no error message window appearing. But the icon in the DVD drive was still the Nero one with the altered name.Curious as to what the Nero setup file might now be called, I reinserted that CD into the DVD drive and saw the icon was just the usual CDROM drive type, and it was now called SoftwareDisc. Both applications... So i just recently created two partitions on my home pc, one keeping windows xp and i installed windows 7 on the other one. I completely got all my programs and stuff back on windows 7 and it was all set. I decided i should delete the other partition containing windows xp so the windows 7 one could have all the harddrive space. I went into the partition program i was using, changed the windows 7 partition to primary instead of logical ( i think that's what it was, i can't really remember ) then deleted the windows xp one. It had to reboot my computer, then after it was finished deleting and stuff it rebooted again but now it just takes me to a black screen that says press a key to reboot. I got a copy of a windows xp recovery disk, and tried to boot from that but nothing. I even tried switching the boot sequence, but still no luck. I really hope someone can get back to me on this one, i've just stumbled upon this site and figured someone has to have some sort of advice on this disaster haha. I'm not even too sure if this is the right spot to post this, but i hope someone can help!

I was trying to install Windows 7 ultimate on a Lenovo b570 that had Windows 7 Home Premium, I Gparted the drive to all unallocated, and started the W7 install, at 57%, it hangs for three hours, I take the disc out, notice fingerprints, used a CD cleaner, and cleaned it, I put the CD back in, waited for it to spin up, before hitting "try again" with the "No disc in the drive message" after hitting "try again", instead of it continuing like normal, it kept saying "The wrong volume is in the drive" despite putting the SAME disc in. No matter how many time I try to click, "try again", I get the same "The wrong volume is in the drive" message. If I hit "continue" I get a "Windows was unable to complete the installation" the computer restarts, but now I get a "Bootmgr is missing" Won't even boot to CD, not even Gparted again!

Any ideas on a fix on these various problems with installation?

Hey, guys,

I was tryin' to install Windows 7 on my laptop when it came up with a Windows Error Recovery. It told me that windows had failed to start maybe because of a recent hardware or software change, and it also suggested me to fix the problem by inserting the installation disc. Unfortunately, the disc drive of my laptop could not work any more. I tried entering the safe mode but it told me that windows could not be installe at the mode. the Last known good configuration wouldn't work, either. Would anyone please let me know what the rpoblem is and what I can do? Thanks!

Hello,

I got another SSD for my system, win7x64 professional, plugged it in as master and made a fresh new install on it and therefore a new mbr was created during installation.

Now I need to access the working OS I have installed on the older SSD and used as a main drive before.

How to make the current bootloader know that there is another windows 7 installation on a different drive that I would like to be able choose to boot in at startup?

Thank you very much for your time.

Answer:Accessing windows installation after MBR was deleted

hmm... I actually believe if you run a startup repair it might find the other copy for you and add it to the bootmgr.

Not 100% on that but it shouldn't hurt anything either.
Startup Repair

Most the other methods I know involve using BCDedit and are pretty hard if you aren't familiar with using it.

Hi all, i have reinstalled the windows XP.
When i try to update the SP2 for the system, mircrosoft told me i am not using a right product key.

Then i follow the instructoin to download a KeyUpdate Tool and i put in the product key which under my notebook, it saids it is not the correct key for the windows that i am using.
At the compare product key site, it shows:

OS Version: Windows XP Professional
Manufacturer: TOSHIBA
Model: Satellite M60
Product Key: *****-*****-*****-*****-P6R2Y

It shows correctly the manufacture and the model.
However, i am using a Windows Xp Home Edition and the key from that CD is end with *****-*****-*****-*****-Q6JWG.
And the product key from my notebook is end up with *****-*****-*****-*****-GCFKM.

Then I download the Windows Product Key Update Tool and put in both the product key from the CD and notebook.
Both of them dosen't work. I want to know how can I update the Service Pack for my windows. Can anyone help? Thx!

What can i do for that? Thx!!!!!

Answer:Wrong Windows product key during SP2 installation

Hi

I have read some threads about similar problems with the OS key and the key changing has always helped?
Sometimes Microsoft rates the image keys as incorrect or invalid. Why? I don't know... it's Microsoft you know ;)

Fact is that the key on the CD cover can be used only to activate the installed Microsoft Works or OneNote software on the notebook. The key is not responsible for the Windows OS!
The key which could be used with Win OS is placed at the bottom of the unit.

Well, according to your message you used this key and now I?m a little bit confused?
I think you should make a call to the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country for clearing this problem?

Please help, I was trying to install ubuntu alongside windows 10 on my custom desktop. During installation I chose the "install ubuntu alongside windows 10 option". The next option was to select drive and allocate drive space. I chose the were Windows 10 was installed, and distributed the disk space equally for both windows and ubuntu. Later, I pressed continue, it started to process and it gave me a fail message which I can't remember which one. Later, it was late at night so I decided to try installation next day. Next day I booted my pc and windows was gone from the boot manager. This seemed strange as I never got to commence ubuntu installation, I assumed my boot manager was broken. I tried repair my pc option, I tried command prompts that can fix the boot manager that I found searching online, nothing fixed it. I took my pc to a repair shop and they told me my windows partition was deleted. This seemed so strange, how can I have deleted my windows partition if I never fully installed Ubuntu in the first place? I don't have Ubuntu installed on my computer. I chose the "install ubuntu alongside Windows" option which permits dual-boot. Did I actually deleted it and I have to reinstall it? What can I do? Please help

Answer:HELP Failed Ubuntu dual boot installation deleted windows

You should have gone into Disk Management in Windows 10 and created a second partition on the hard drive, then installed Ubuntu in that second partition.
It looks like you tried to install Ubuntu in the same partition that Windows 10 was installed in, and wiped it out.

Today I wanted to transfer my photos from my cell phone to my Lenovo ideapad y560, but it said my bluetooth driver is missing. When I looked at device manager I saw a yellow exclamation mark next to it. There is a "drivers" folder on my D:\ drive that includes all the drivers for my laptop. Those drivers were there when I bought my laptop. I run the bluetooth driver setup from there but it took too long. While it was running I noticed my files on the desktop are missing. I looked documents, pictures folders but everything was missing. I quickly shut down the computer by holding down the power button and now windows does not start. I says "Boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible". What should I do not to further damage my computer and how I can recover my files? I don't have a windows installation disc. Should I try One Key recovery? I don't know it will work in this state or even it works it my affect my remaining files, if any remained.  My very important work related files are missing not just some photos or videos, so please help!

Answer:Bluetooth driver installation deleted all my files and windows is unable to start

Well what can i say, you did everything that shouldn't be done. You don't shut down a computer while it  driver set up is taking place. And pressing down on the power button, didn't allow windows, to shut down safely. ? assume you don't have any backups? No system image of the entire system? What you can do is use a linux live cd to  rescue whatever is still available. Do you want that? ? can get you a link, with instructions on how to use it. You can use One Key Recovery to restore system to a backup, if you took one beforehand .Did you? Did you create a Windows system repair disc ? Have you tried booting into Safe mode?and from there, you could do a system repair. so you have options.

Hey guys.

So I live in Ireland and when installing Windows 8, I set some language choices to Irish (keyboard and date/time), but language to English UK. In previous installations of Windows, such as Windows 7, this did not make apps show up with Irish language titles.

After removing Ireland from the Language options > Control Panel - Language, some apps went back to displaying in English. But other Modern UI apps, like the news still show up in Irish titles.

Have I missed a setting of some sort? I have attached a screenshot of my language options, just in-case i'm missing something.
PS: I have already rebooted a few times since changing these options.

Thanks!

EDIT: Fixed. The latest batch of Windows updates seems to have kicked it back into English. Thanks anyway!

Hi, it depends what 'wiped' means here. Can you post the command you used?

Meanwhile try one or more of the popular data recovery programs e.g. Recuva.

You might be lucky. Such programs usually have two levels of scanning.

Hi guys, first time poster here so hopefully this will be at least somewhat bearable.

OK, so here is what I wanted to do, I was looking around the net and stumbled on to some videos about software RAID with USB drives. I know it isn't a very elegant or practical solution but I thought it would just be cool to see it working. So I found this article How to Create a Software RAID Array in Windows 7 and figured that since disk management in both 7/8 are essentially the same it wouldn't be a problem. I then went to delete the volumes on the flash drives and saw the option was grayed out. So in that state the drives cannot be used for what I wanted them to be used for. I did notice that on his tutorial his drives were described as "Basic" and my drives are described as "Removable" I think that somewhere along the line I saw something about removable drives being hard to work with in disk management so that may be it.
So if anyone knows how to do this all help is greatly appreciated!

Hi,

You can use the undelete option in a 3rd party partition manager. As long as you haven't attempted to change that partition in any way other than delete it, should work fine.

If you have a partition Manager - see if it has that option. Post back and let me know.

Question: Wrong Volume error

Hi,

I am in a position at work in which people often bring CDs to me to view contents. After spending a few minutes viewing the contents I eject the CD and give it back to its owner. In my haste, I often eject it too soon after closing the files/applications on the cd. I then get a "Windows - Wrong Volume" error as the computer is obviously looking for the CD I ejected. The only way I have figured out to get rid of this error is to restart my computer. This delays my workflow significantly. Is there a way to get rid of this error and "re-set" the cd drive to accept a new cd without having to restart the computer?

Thanks

Answer:Wrong Volume error

Hi,

When this error appears, try right clicking the taskbar at the bottom of the screen, go into task manager and end the task from either the applications or process tab? I know it doesn't get rid of it but it may save time.

Hey there specs are as:

Dell XPS 720
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU
[email protected] GHz
2.40 GHz, 2.00 GB of RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 8600 GTS

Anyways... I seem whenever I boot up my comp. a message constantly occurs:

a box appears and on top it says "CorelOMonitor.exe - Not Found", and below that, inside the box it states:

The Wrong Volume Is In The Drive. Please insert Disk into drive Z.

Thinking it was Corel Snapfire. I had inserted Corel Snapfire installation cd it said a similar statement, but at least it was on the same track as being a similar issue.

Because my iPod is connected via my ubs port, it always pops up whenever my iPod is connected.

Even though this is small issue, it can get very annoying as it is constant.

I had done a full scan using AVG 7.5, and had solved some issues, but not this.

I had tried changing the partition using "Diskmgmt.msc" in my RUN program on the start menu, and still no avail. also trying this going under an admin user.

Hopefully this is some what understandable. I mean green on these sorts of issues, and would really would like some support.

thanks, any more info, just ask.

When I turn my computer on, on the boot when it checks the hd size it reads it as 130gb when it is only 30gb. This prevents windows from loading. I can access CMOS and fix the error but it will happen next time I boot up. Heard of this?

Answer:Wrong disk volume

Try checking your IDE cable it might be damaged.

?I haven't noticed this (I have a Win8 laptop and a Surface) but I don't mess with the volume all that much either.

I've gone and deleted the volume icon from the taskbar somehow. I tried to get it back on by going to sounds and media in control panel, I then ticked the box to put it back on the taskbar but get the following message: Window cannot display the volume icon on the taskbar because the volume control programme has not been installed. To install it use add/remove in control panel.I looked in the add/remove programmes list on the control panel and there is nothing about volume in there.Any ideas? I used baku 2 weeks ago and deleted my sytem volume information. Win xp and now no restore,no help,no run etc. Still online and still lost ????

Answer:I deleted system volume information

I'm not understanding your problem very well as your post is somewhat brief and hard to comprehend.

1. I'm assuming by "baku" you mean backup? Please confirm.

2. When you say you deleted your system volume information do you mean the actual folder itself, or the contents of the folder?

3. When you say "no restore" do you mean you can not now set a restore point?

Any further details you can give as to what you did and what you are trying to do would be helpful.

A friend of mine, not me, accidently deleted a spanned volume, One of the disks is an IBM Deskstar 80GB and the other is a Maxtor 200GB with 8M Buffer. The Spanned volume was a total of 190 GB (using unallocated space from both). The volume was deleted using the MMC utility from windows. I was wondering if there is any software out there that would me, not me, my friend, recover the data that was in it.

I've tried reinstalling the audio driver but i couldn't get it to work!. when i do it and restart my computer it popps up blue screen and says something about me not installing the program correctly, or that it is a corrupted audio driver. I really really need help with this, I've tried system restoring, and just do not know what to do anymore! i really need your help please! I think my audio driver is Realtek AC'97 Audio, That's what it says to intall when i search for missing drivers. Also my computer system information is, Microsoft Windows XP version 2002 SP3.

I just installed a Epson WF-4630 yesterday using my Dell laptop and today I have a pop up that won't go away after I removed the software CD.
The pop up says the wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume WF-4630 into drive D.
I'm not sure why I would need to keep the software CD in the laptop since I thought I completed everything I needed to regarding that. Anyway, I put it back in just to see if it would make it go away and the pop up will not go away no matter what I try. I have restarted it and that hasn't worked either. Is this possibly a virus or something else?

Most times that my wife tries to save a Word document on a floppy she gets a message saying something about 'wrong volume' and the document fails to save. We have XP on one machine, ME on another and 98 at work, all of which have probably accessed or saved to the discs over time.Could this be the reason? Also when I format the disc it indicates that FAT32 is in operation I think whereas I'm sure that my PC uses N something or other. Could this be the reason?

Answer:'Wrong volume' message re floppies on XP

I think that the format used on floppies is the same on all O/S's, only the hard disks format at Fat32 (win98) NFTS (XP & NT.If when you put the floppy in a system you press F5 it will make the system re read the drives and get the correct format for each type.Try pressing F5 when you load the floppy, before you try to save to it... this seems to work for me.

Using Windows Live Mail 2011 in Windows 7 - I receive the following error on any email in which I select an HTML link. This occurs in my roadrunner email and my hotmail.
wlmail - Wrong Volume "The wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert volume MFL_PRO into drive D:." I searched the Windows Live support forum, I found 5 occurrences of this same problem but no resolution is offered in any of those posts. Obviously there's something going on. MFL_PRO is associated with my Brother printer. This was probably the last SW I installed via the CD drive if that provides a clue. If I insert the driver disc then I don't get the error but I can't leave it that way. I have included a screenshot.
Thanks and regards,
Doug

Answer:wlmail - Wrong Volume error

Try to do a repair of WLM. Go to Programs and Features, highlight Windows Live Essentials, click the button at the top "repair" and in the next window select "repair". It will repair all components of Essentials that were installed, including Mail. (You might also try to repair the printer installation the same way.)

is there anything I can do to recover all of data, etc?

Answer:deleted wrong partitions

Hi

Judging by the presence of grub, I'm guessing you have had a Linux disto installed at some point. This might make the next steps easier. Grub rescue indicates that the partition that had grub installed onto it has been deleted.

Download a gparted .iso from here and burn it to a CD if you have a CD burner. By booting from the CD, you will be able to access the testdisk application. This will search for lost and deleted partitions.

Once it has done this, it will give you the option to write the partitions back to the drive. In a quick format/delete of a partition, none of the data is actually deleted, so the data should be fine.

Oh yeah, I probably should add, do not attempt to use the drive, otherwise you could end up overwriting the 'lost' data.

Hello,
Installed ET Quake Wars on my girlfriend PC last night, was not running great so I thought I would update her drivers.
I downloaded and saved the latest forcewear drivers for Nvidia FX5900 graph card, l went into add and remove programs there was three choices, I saw one had "force" in the title so I deleted that one. Then stared the set up and install from the saved file and it said "The Nvidia setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardwear, setup will now exit"

I tried a few games to be told "Failed to find a suitable display device" Looked back into add and remove there was two left :Nvidia Display Drivers and :Nvidia Drivers

Went to device manager, the graph card is no longer showing up in there but does have 2 exclamation marks next to:NVIDIA nForce2 AGP Host to PCI Bridge and Ethernet Controller (she uses a usb modem, dont know if the ethernet has any relevance)

She no longer has her disc that came with the card and also has system restore disabled.
She has:
AMD Athlon
FX5900
Windows XP

Im very sure Ive deleted the wrong drivers, could you please help as lm getting nagged to death, any help would be much appreciated, thanks in advance.

Answer:Deleted wrong drivers (help)

You need to reinstall your chipset drivers for the NVidia chipset. You should be able to download them from your motherboard/PC manufacturer's web site or from Major Geeks: http://www.majorgeeks.com/NVIDIA_nForce_Unified_Driver_Windows_2000XP_d4299.html If this driver doesn't repair the drivers with the yellow "!", then go to your motherboard makers web site. Reboot after installing the chipset drivers. Then install this video driver: http://www.majorgeeks.com/NVIDIA_Forceware_2KXPMCE_d3294.html If, for some reason, this driver doesn't work, go here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_163.71.html Both links are for the exact same driver, so the MG link should work just fine.

I have many volumes and on each of them there is a recycle bin. Can deleted file be in recyle bin on another disk, volume? For example if reserve space for Recycle Bin on this volume is over. Or each Recycle bin is only for it's volume?

Answer:Can deleted file be in recyle bin on another disk, volume?

Hello userwin,

Each volume has it's own hidden protected OS $Recycle.bin file that stores deleted items from only that volume. One volume cannot have it's $Recycle.bin file on a different volume. It must be on itself.

When you open the Recycle Bin, it lets you see all the deleted items from the $Recycle.bin files from each volume there much like a library does with included folders.

If you like, you can change the storage size of the recycle bin for each volume to fit your needs if free space is available to do so.

Recycle Bin storage size

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Hi,

Today I was in Disk Management and accidentally removed Volume K: which was my external Seagate Hard Drive. I meant to re format and delete the files but not delete the acutal volume.

I now cannot see my drive K: when I go into My Computer, but it is their in device manager, when I plug it in an out, i get the noise, but I just cant access it, so I did a system restore to a few days ago, but no look its still gone, i actually am not worried about the files on it, I just wanted to be able to use it again.

I am using Vista Home.

Rgds

Answer:Accidentally deleted volume under disk management

You should be able to go back into Disk Management to re-initialize and reformat the drive. With the Disk Management window open, look down at the list where the individual drives are listed in bold print (it should list Disk 0, Disk 1, the CD drives, etc). The drive in question should be listed; right click on the bold print for the drive and choose initialize. Once that is done, you should be able to partition and format as usual.

Hello there, I am in need of some help. I recently cleaned out some unneeded applications on my control panel, and restarted my computer, but now I've lost my volume control/ dimmer control. There use to be a little black box that would pop up whenever i increased or decreased my volume or dimmer, but now its gone. I would like to have that back. I don't remember the application i deleted. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Answer:Need help, deleted application, and now no volume or dimmer control.

There's proprietary software that provides this functionality. You may need to scour Lenovo's website for downloads of this nature, or contact them directly to see if they can provide you with a download. Or if the laptop came with backups of this kind where you can install the various software from CDs, then start looking.

Hi, I accidentally deleted the volume on my 3rd hard drive and now my Windows Vista PC won't even recognize the drive. How can I fix this?

The problem started when I put my old Barracuda 160 gig drive in a usb external case and couldn't get it to work until I put the jumpers on 7-8. The problem was, it was asking me to format the drive which was full of files which I wanted to retrieve. Through a series of now obvious mistakes, I first shrunk the volume backwards, I meant to shrink only 50 MB but deleted all but 50 MB and then stupidly deleted the entire volume.

What I need now is to at least be able to have my PC recognize the drive again and to be able to restore the full volume but would ideally like to still be able to retrieve the data, if that's even possible at this point. Also, why does, or did my computer only recognize this drive in the 7-8 jumper configuration? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Tony

So I messed up a windows drive (I think with a magnet) but didn't loose any of my data. So I reinstalled xp w/o formatting so I could keep my data. I must have messed something up somewhere cause now my system volume is on a different HD.
It's not a problem right now but I'm going to get rid of the IDE and Sata named drives and replace with 1 bigger one but I'm pretty sure windows won't boot w/o that IDE in there.

Does anybody know how this happened and how I can "fix" it? Preferably w/o reformatting of course.

Thanks!

Answer:Problem with System volume on wrong drive

You could clone the system volume to the new SATA drive, and then run a repair install on it to make it bootable. Anytime you are installing Vista or XP, you want to take your time and pay attention during the screen where you set the system volume.

Hi,
by trying to repair my dvd burner, i uninstalled it and just before i checked what were the drivers for it and dumbly deleted them(nt my usual kind of stupidity here but i was pissed at my drive not working correctly even after cleaning it twice), there was this sonic file i think the name was sonic.sys (when you check driver details on your cd drive, the file and path should be there) and now well, all my cd drives disappeared, so could anyone send it to me from any way
the file can be found in \windows\System32\Drivers

thanks

and by the same time, about that burner not working correctly, i have a Sony DVD burner DRU800a, the problem with it is that most of the time it doesnt detect the cd i put in it. it tries to read it for like a minute or two then, it tells me its a blank cd mostly every time even if its not, even if it was a cd/dvd i already tried to put in it. then sometimes it detects them no problem(once for 15-20 attemps) and has less problems with real cd/dvd(data music or dvd movies)... anyone has a clue about what it could be?

my system:
AMD 2100+

Ok I am going to create a new thread on this, as I had been posting on one dated from 2012 that was an identical issue, but I think starting a new thread would be better.

I have a 1TB Western Digital HDD.

It is not my OS.

It is my data storage drive, with over 850GB of data and applications installed on it; while my OS resides by itself on my SSD.

I also have a small 1GB usb drive.

I was attempting to set up the USB drive as a bootable and was about to wipe it clean.

I was in Disk Management in Windows 7.

The WD showed up as 932GB.
The USB showed up as 934GB

I got the two mixed up, and I accidently deleted the Volume on the WD.

I did nothing else at that point, other then have a complete and total panic attack, nearly lost my dinner into a toilet... then started Googling for a solution or fix.

Google brought me here, to this thread - Undelete Hard disk Volume and recover data!

The poster appears to have done the exact same thing I did, and even posted that they found their own solution.

Answer:Accidently deleted/recreated HDD Volume, did NOT format, need recovery

So I could really use some help with this...

I'm not too familiar with this Active Partition Recovery program...

Should I just bite the bullet, spend the money to buy their full version that will allow me access to their "delete invalid volume" and "recovery in place" options...

Or is there some other way I can recover this lost volume for free?

i am trying to load LOTRO via disk 1 and disk 2 that I purchased. When it prompts me to put in disk 2, I always get this error: The wrong volume is in the drive. Please insert disk 1. But, it won't take disk 1 again, and I cannot finish the download. HELP! This is a new computer with Vista Home premium

Answer:wrong volume error when running game disk

Hello bv4cincar,
Try this, create a folder on your desktop and copy all the files from both cd's into this folder, launch the install from the new folder, right click on the installer and run as admin, when it ask's for cd 2, point it to the new folder. Good luck and post your results.

Help!

Having insalled a live update to Norton Antivirus, my computer rebooted this morning and started coming up with the blue screen of death and the error message Unmountable Boot Volume.

Having followed the recommended suggestions I found on the web -

In the Windows XP Recovery Console:
Then type "chkdsk /p" without the quotes and hit enter
When that is done type "fixboot" and hit enter
"Y" and enter at the prompt
Then type "exit" and hit enter
The system will now reboot into Windows

- I now have a hard disk that on booting gives an error "NTLDR not found".

If I put another bootable HDD on and boot into windows XP with the old XP disk as a second drive, it shows up as a FAT system with only 10MB... this is a 40GB drive

Needless to say I have recent data on the HDD that I need - can anyone help??

Thanks

Answer:XP - Unmountable Boot Volume now wrong file system

First of all, don't write anything to it yet. It only decreases the possibilities to recover data.

Drive diagnostic utilities compendium has some applications you could try, some others include GetDataBack and Testdisk.

Hi

I'm puzzling over why I can't load Win10 in a dual boot system. Running EasyBCD (in win7)I find Win10 is pointing to HarddiskVolume3. After searching the internet, I eventually found that I can get the volume numbers using Diskpart and what I found may be my problem. EasyBCD is telling me that Win10 is on HarddiskVolume3 whereas Diskpart is telling me it is on HarddiskVolume2 with counting starting at 0 (zero). If this is right then of course Win10 won't load because it is looking at the wrong volume. Just how do I tell my PC that Win10 is on HarddiskVolume2. Yes, Win10 IS on the third volume but volume counting starts at HarddiskVolume0 (zero). I'm attaching two graphics which may help explain what I am talking about.

I'm hoping someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong or what is going wrong. Not only that but I'm hoping someone can tell me how to fix it. Hoping to hear from someone soon.

Answer:Wrong Volume Being Pointed To In Dual Boot System?

In Windows 7 Disk Mgmt add a Drive Letter for Windows 10, then add Windows 10 using EasyBCD which is the correct way another OS is added. Drive Letter - Add, Change, or Remove in Windows 7 - Windows 7 Forums

How was Windows 10 installed on the PC? If you unplugged the other drive during its install then ideally you would boot the choice of OS by setting preferred to boot first in BIOS Boot Priority Order, then trigger the other using the one-time BIOS Boot Menu key.

I have 6 partitions on my hard drive. Under Disk Management, when I select a partition and then "Shrink" all but one shows the total capacity correctly, along with the amount to shrink and then the remaining that will be left. However on one partition, when selecting shrink, the total capacity is the sum of the total plus the free, and not just the total capacity. As such, I cannot shrink this volume without an error. The capacity is about 350GB with the free about 200GB. When I select shrink, the total of the volume shows 550GB instead of 350GB. The correct capacity of 350GB shows correctly on the Disk Management listing and boxes on the initial screen and also under Properties on the File Manager. It is only when selecting the shrink option that it shows 550GB.

I would suggest some sort of fixmbr command that won't reformat the drive. Maybe other people have more suggestions on how to do it without it erasing files from your drive.

Hello again all! I've returned with my toughest problem yet, and I can't seem to figure out what is causing the problem (obviously). Alright, well the other day I downloaded a very large file (around 500MB compressed), and when I went to open it, the computer froze and I got the blue screen. If I may add, I did scan the file for virus' before I opened it. I rebooted my computer, only to find out it would freeze on the welcome screen. I hooked up the hard drive to another computer (as a slave) and deleted the large file, along with some other files that I thought were useless. Unfortunately, I think I may have deleted some vital system files. I have many many symptoms, but here are some basics:

-Right clicking on a file to bring up the menu takes about an entire minute
-All of my quick start programs disappeared from the start menu
-On startup, the only icon that loads by the clock is the little gray speaker for sound
-The recycle bin no longer works, as I cannot move files to it (I have to right click, then click delete, then files are permanently deleted).
-I have absolutely no themes (background is that nasty blue), and I cannot change it
-At one point when I was messing around with a program, it said "Please try again with administrative rights on the computer," (I already am the administrator).
-Every time I load Real Player, it goes through the "do you accept the terms to finish setup" screen
-Everything is much slower (besides interne... Read more

After having months of problems, my girlfriend finally got a replacement PC sent to her, but I've only gone and messed it up and now I'm in big trouble!

Upon arrival, the disk drive was not being recognized and wouldn't even open. I researched this and found it was a common problem, so attemted all the online fixes without success. Then, in another attempt, I STUPIDLY deleted the wrong upper and lower filters and now windows won't start at all.

Being a brand new computer there is no restore point to work from and, like I said, the disk drive won't even open to boot from disk!

So, is there any way I can fix the damage? All I can think of is borrowing and external disk drive and a copy of the CD, but I was hoping there might be a simpler way I can do this before the girlfriend comes home and kills me!

Answer:Deleted wrong upper and lower filters :-/

The computer very likely has a recovery environment built in, so it's just a matter of using the correct Function key during boot to access it and then do a full restore.

Hello I was trying to get rid of a raid shortcut on the tool bar.And in programs add or delete I uninstalled the via controller now I Know this was not the right thing to do. The computer trys to boot but it cant see the hard drive. The motherboard is a Asus SK8V with xp sp2. the hard drive is sata and the optical are sata.hooked up to sata 1 and 2 on the mobo.I took out a backup hard drive with the xp o.s. from another computer thats IDE and hooked it up to the mobo it was recognized in the BIOS. But the computer still would not boot it goes to a screen that says start in safe mode start w command prompt or start w networking or last known funtioning point. none of these choices do anything. I dont know what to do can someone please help.

Answer:deleted wrong driver in xp.now it wont boot

You need to reload Windows. You can safely reload Windows without losing any data. First you'll have to create an F6 floppy disk for the SATA drivers. Visit this link:
http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?modelname=SK8V&SLanguage=en-us
Click the 'Drivers' tab and scroll to the last one. This is the 'Make Disk' driver. It will create a floppy disk. Boot to your XP install CD, when the first blue screen with the white bar at the bottom comes up, it will say "Press F6 for third party RAID or SCSI driver..." and you'll need to press F6. At some point you'll be prompted to put the floppy in the drive and it will load the drivers for your SATA drive. You will perform a safe reload of Windows. DO NOT FORMAT!!! Formatting will erase everything. After you install the F6 floppy drivers, you can follow this guide to do a repair install of XP:
http://www.geekstogo.com/forum/How-to-repair-Windows-XP-t138.html
It's very easy to follow and is complete with screen shots.... if you don't have a floppy drive, get one. Borrow it, or buy it (they're only like $10), or even use an external USB floppy (much more expensive at over $30; not all PCs support USB floppies in XP setup). If you don't have an XP disc, I'm not sure there's much you can do....
Using a hard drive from another PC to try to boot your PC will not work. XP has a way of 'bonding' to the hardware in a PC. If you change all that hardw... Read more

Was fixing to re-install windows, and I found I accidentally deleted the partition that was my external drive. I did not install windows, or format it, but when I rebooted windows, I cannot access it. It simply says. this disk is not formatted, would you like to format it now. I know of a way to recover the files, and copy to another disk, but as I am presently out of disk space, is there a way to fix the partition that was deleted. Hoping to do this cheaply. I might spend 15.00 for a program, but am shooting for a simple method... any help appreciated.

Answer:Solved: Accidentally deleted wrong partition.

Hi,
there is no simple way to reclaim your lost partition if you're not under linux.
there is however a small utility that might help you if want to give it a try;
it's called TESTDISK and claim to be able to undelete lost partition table.... here's the site --> http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Download

I have a user who receives the following error message: "One or more folders in your mailbox is named incorrectly. The name of one or more of your folders includes the character "/" or more than 250 characters. Folders with names that include this character can't be downloaded to your IMAP e-mail program. Please rename these folders: xxx" xxx is the name of the folder the user deleted. This folder does not exist anymore, and her deleted items folder is empty. I ran a scanpst to make sure there are no errors in the pst file, and see if this solves the problem, but it does not. The error message came back. Also, after running scanpst.exe, I rebooted the computer. We are using Microsoft Office 2010 SP2, and Exchange Server 2010. Windows 7 SP1 is our O/S.

I had left my laptop on my business desk for about a week while I was away. I was hacked into and someone set themselves up as the "Administrator" in my User Account of Windows XP. I know this because when I did a "Safe" reboot up popped two accounts, mine labeled as "Owner" and theirs labeled as "Administrator". (In "regular" mode Owner appears and so does a "Guest" account that I cannot delete) I was so freaked out about this that I started deleting files I had no business deleting. I thought that I was okay because I could do a "System Restore" from CD ROM however when I input Disk 2 it states "Image Error" error reading
Image and it puts me back into MS Dos Style Prompt.

I want to learn how to do 3 things. Can ANYONE please help me?

1- Reformat the Hard drive completely clean to BOOT out this anonymous "Administrator"
2- Restore Win XP
3- Either make a copy or run something that would prevent this in the future

The funny thing is that I have a stand alone and I just found out that this "Hacker" set up an "Administrator" inside of this one too, and I just purchased it. Both are HP!

Help - I am not sleeping thinking about these things!!!!!!

PS- I tried a FULL restore off the CD Rom first and this "Administrator" was STILL THERE!!!!!

Answer:Attacked and Hacked - Deleted wrong files

Every XP machine has an Administrator account. It has full and complete rights to everything on the computer and is used to...errr...well...administrate things.

It normally doesn't show up on the Welcome screen during a normal boot. It normally does show up when booting into Safe Mode.

It's nothing to worry about since no matter how many times you reinstall XP, the Administrator account is going to be created and you'll get old before your time trying to get rid of it.
