I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have recently Install Windows 8 Pro, I have Sony Vaio VPCEE3J0E. Initially, I downloaded Sony's Pointing Driver (Alps) - 7.107.505.106 and it was just for basic touchpad function.
However, I found about Synaptics and downloaded the latest Synaptics V 16.2.21 and installed it.

Now once I go to my Control Panel ==> Mouse ==> Synaptic Properties, it shows nothing, there isn't any option for touchpad gesture etc.

I don't know why it isn't working but I think it should have worked. Please if anyone could help me.

Answer:Synaptics Touch Driver Not working in Windows 8 Sony Vaio

One more thing I don't know why, no matter how many times I install in my
pointing device properties ==> Device Settings, I have Standard Pointing Device instead of Synaptics Pointing Device.

Is it that my notebook doesn't support Synaptics drivers

Hi folks,

I just upgraded my father-in-law's HP G70 laptop to Win7 Home Premium 64-bit. It is relatively new but had Vista on it. It was an "upgrade" and it appears to have preserved everything pretty well. A large number of updates have ben applied successfully via Windows Update. But -

There's a "virtual scrolling" feature on the trackpad, which no longer works. All the Point Device Properties applet choices seem to be correct... I am not sure why it doesn't work. Anyone got any similar experiences or theories why it wouldn't work?

Answer:Synaptics driver issues on HP G70 laptop?

Did you go to HP website and download the driver for your track pad??

I searched for HP G70 in HP website they have a lot of different models

Here is the website..find your model and try installing the driver for your track pad..

That's all right, everything is set up and managed in the whole deal, except that the behavior of the middle button at the touchpad is not configurable and always operates on a scroll.Those. in the latest version of the drivers, this option has a check box, and there, only the behavior of a button it affects in any way, even to put - at least not put - scrolling! The only solution to remove the drivers synaptics and work under the standard windows driver for the mouse, but it is not convenient - every day this piece of *** is trying to roll the same curve of the driver and to please me broken middle button, which the browser is much more necessary to function as a middle mouse button (opening and closing tabs). However, can someone scroll function is very necessary, but obviously not for me, please add the ticket to synaptics, cause they the one, who coukd fix the bug.

Okay so i've been struggling to find a fix to this and Lenovo support hasn't really been too useful either. Basically the trackpoint is having issues working even with the newest bios, etc. and synaptics driver. It also is having problems with the old driver too?? Could it be in conflict with the new bios update? Lenovo Support gave me the advice to reformatte as it is a "software" issue and to repeat the same above process. Yet the problem still persists.  What steps should I try next?  Lenovo support seems reluctant to give me a hardware exchange Thanks in advance, any advice is open to testing! I'm just fed up with new drivers having bugs like this.

Hi guys, Running the latest driver dated from the 18th of December ( : Basically for some iterations now the Synaptics driver has been a bit poor, it won't remember settings across *some* reboots with no logic as to which reboots it does lose its settings on.Also and this is my reason for creating a specific post - has anyone else noticed that the driver is initiated right at the end of the boot procedure, I'm sure it was not normally like this, but it now takes some time for my sensitivity settings to be applied and the Ultranav scrolling - some 30-40 seconds after the Desktop has booted in - it seems to load right at the end of the chain. This definitely wasn't the case going back 6 months or so, as I've never noticed or remembered having to wait for the Synaptics part of the mouse driver to load. Is there a fix in the works as this driver has clearly fallen into disrepair recently for the T420s owners (and probably other X2X series owners). Am I the only one experiencing lagging of the driver being fully functional after boot ? I've completely wiped the driver from my system purged the inf files from the windows system area and re-installed from scratch but it's still the same. Any feedback or discussion on this point would be great. I see others have some success loading the generic drivers from the Synaptic website, this is ideally not a route I wan... Read more

I'm having a really annoying scrolling issue with the touchpad on my Lenovo X250 (Windows 10). The sensitivity of scrolling is dramatically decreased following the use of trackpoint scrolling. Example, say I have a program like Chrome open to a web page. Using two finger scrolling on the touchpad it takes maybe 2.5-3 swipes to get to the bottom of the page. I then hold down the middle button above the touchpad and use the trackpoint to scroll. Now that that is over I go back and try the touchpad again. This time it takes me 10-12 swipes to get to the bottom of the page. Scroll rate is already turned up to max in the synaptics settings, nothing has changed. Scrolling behavior will now remain this way until I restart the computer. Can someone please provide a solution?

Answer:X250 scrolling sensitivity issues with synaptics touchpad driver

Additionally it seems that the trackpad will randomly become unresponsive at time as if it "sticks". I remaped caps lock to CTRL and I cannot use the trackpad while holding it down, the mouse freezes. All around not a great experience with this driver.

I am running Windows 10 on an Acer and recently downloaded and installed the update for the Synaptic touchpad (January 17, 2017).  After rebooting my laptop, I can use the touch pad to move the cursor when logging in, but once the system as loaded,
I cannot move the cursor using the touch pad.  I can left-click and right-click, and shrink and expand on the touch pad, but have no control over the cursor.  I currently have a mouse attached to the computer in order to move the cursor.
When I click on the link for more information about the update, there currently is no information.  Quite frustrating.
Please advise as how to resolve this issue.
Thank you.

I recently updated to the latest Nvidia driver (266.xx) for my GeForce GTS 250 video card, using a Sony Bravia EX400 as my monitor. After doing this there was no change in the computer's performance except that every time I run a game application (such as Starcraft II, World of Warcraft, Warcraft III, or Counter Strike: Source) there is something wrong with the display. I can only describe it as being incredibly pixelated to the point that I can't even hardly read the text on the screen. No matter how I change the in game video settings, the quality of what I am actually seeing on the screen does not change.

I took screen shots of this happening (in both World of Warcraft and Counter Strike: Source), but when I opened the screen shots to view them on my computer, they were as clear as day with no graphical problems.

I changed to a regular ViewSonic computer monitor and the problem went away, then went back to using the TV and the problem reappeared. So the only 2 solutions I have found so far are to either use a regular computer monitor (which I don't own at the moment) or to roll back to older drivers, in which case the performance is severely affected.

Sony Customer Support wasn't able to solve the issue despite 2+ hours of troubleshooting, so I don't think it's an issue with the TV. Maybe there is an issue between the new Nvidia drivers and my TV?

If anyone has any input on this issue it would be greatly appreciated.

I am currently using a Sony Vaio All-in-one desktop. It probably around 6 years old, and has been running slowly lately so I wiped it using DBAN and then proceeded to install Windows 7 64 bit. After installing java, activex and some other drivers, I then downloaded a game called League of Legends. When I tried running the game however, I got a "could not load direct3d" error. So, after delving into some research (my model number is VGC-LT10E), it seems to me that this computer is so old, that Sony never released updated drivers for Windows 7 compatibility. The only drivers I could find (graphics card is GeForce 8400m GT) were compatible only with Vista. To add to the mess, this comp apparently only uses proprietary drivers, so I couldn't get drivers from nvidia's website.

Does anyone know of a way to get working drivers for my Sony Vaio (VGC-LT10E) on Windows 7 64 bit?
I want to try and avoid having to downgrade back to Vista.

Thanks in advance to anyone who replies.

Were you able to check your touchpad settings before the upgrade if you have Synaptics or Elan touchpad?

Can i just say this driver makes my head explode but unistalling it is literally 100x worse?
Ok so here is the issue at start. I got a new lenovo laptop after my old one kicked the bucket and
the laptop alone is beautiful. Works great , great graphics , yeah. The biggest issue for me though is
the mouse. I play games and the previous issue was that the mouse has a serious tap2click issue
going on with it. It would literally click everything and this caused me to screw up alot in games so
i installed Synaptics mouse driver (Which according to Lenovo support,i'm supposed to have anyways)
to disable that annoying tap2click and it worked but ofc a new problem was born. Now i couldn't use
my mouse and keyboard at the same time. Again i game so this was a game-breaking issue for me.
After a few days i was able to resolve this issue but now i have ANOTHER issue. Now it's getting
very hard for me to right click. I have to tap it several times just to right click. This is getting really
stupid and i'm ready to just deal with the tap-happy mouse i had before because it seems this driver
is loaded with problems. Is there any way to fix this issue? To be clear , I can't right click properly.

The two finger scrolling on my Synaptics touchpad sometimes gets "lost" after coming back from Sleep mode (it does not work).  Rebooting corrects the issue temporarily, but I would like to resolve it permanently.  I believe this is a driver problem.  I have already uninstalled the hardware from Device Manager (without removing the driver), and this has not corrected the issue.  That said, on the Y40 downloads page there is only a Windows 7 driver listed (the laptop came with 8.1 pre-installed).  This driver has a newer release date than the one I have installed. Can I use this driver despite the OS inconsistency?

Answer:Y40 Synaptics Driver

I'm not sure if the Win 7 drivers can be used for Windows 8.1.You can give it a try. Should not cause much problem even if it's not compatible. In the meantime, let me check with eSupport team for Windows 8.1 drivers.

Three weeks or so ago I posted here, asking for help on how to disable my touch pad on a Lenovo laptop. I disabled all the gestures, unchecked the 'lock on' feature, etc. and for a short while thought the issue was resolved. It is not. Here is my original thread:
It was closed but I am still having problems. When I drag the pointer across objects, it activates them, opens pages, that sort of thing. If I accidentally leave the pointer on the 'previous page' button, it automatically does goes back. It is driving me crazy. I've disabled everything (except disabling the touch pad entirely) and it's still plaguing me.

Short of a virus (I've scanned a few times with AVG and MalwareBytes and found nothing), the only thing I can think is perhaps in disabling the various features, I accidentally hit upon a sequence or combination that keeps somehow didn't disable those features I don't want.

Any suggestions?

I cannot believe how bad this touchpad is. I've had two customer support reps take over my computer and the problem still isn't fixed. The problem: The tap function is extremely erratic. Sometimes it takes one tap. Sometimes two. Sometimes 5 to execute the simple function of closing a tab on a browser, or electing a utility in a software app, or clicking on a link and opening it. etc. etc. Then, sometimes I tap and the cursor lurches....  This is my 3rd HP computer, but this is unacceptable. Hello all,

Ive got some troubles with my new laptop which I cant seem to solve.

For some reason I cant type and click at the same time, like when I use the WASD keys and use the trackpad clicker simultaneously in games. (NOTE, this is the case when browsing or whatever as well)
The issue presides when I've got my external mouse plugged in and using that, but I was really looking foward to doing some casual gaming when im travelling and what not, and would rather not use an external mouse, but right now its more or less impossible. After trying tons of stuff out I figured out a quick solution to this problem, by constantly holding down the left CTRL button, but this is of course super uncomfortable and just making me even more frustrated that I cant just find a fix for it all together.

Spent a good couple of hours trying to figure it out with loads of google searches but none of the suggested solutions work (the most common tip being to disable the 'Palm Check Threshold' option in the Advanced tab in the Synpatics Control Panel, which does absolutely nothing) and trying to find the 'Click Delay' options which apparently is nowhere to be found in the current version of Windows 10 (sigh)

Has anyone els had these issues and know what the fix is for synaptics and windows 10?

And yes before you ask I've tried reinstallating several drivers, both current and past, but this particular thing does not change.

Hope someone could help me out

Best place to look for drivers is the PC Vendor and not the actual device manufacturer. Sometimes the non PC vendor drivers will not work correctly as many PC vendors do custom impementations of the hardware.

Hi! So a few hours ago I went to play a game (Blacklight Retribution) and when I pressed any key down and tried to look around I couldn't look around. I've ran into this problem before and easily fixed it. So I went to Control Panel, searched "Mouse" then clicked on Mouse settings. What I saw was this.... Screenshot by Lightshot. Iclicked yes the first time and tried installing the Windows 8 Synaptics Driver Again... It worked. But I still got the same error when going to Mouse Settings. This time I clicked no and received this... Screenshot by Lightshot. So for quite some time after this I was confused on what to do. To relieve my mind I tried playing another game (Planetside 2) and didn't have the problem I had with Blacklight. (This problem is fixed now) But what was annoying me was whenever I brushed just a hair on the trackpad it made me click which made me shoot! Now I go back to the Mouse Setting and browse through it and don't see anything helpful. I decided to look at Device Manager and look to see what was under the Mouse area. I found this... Screenshot by Lightshot. That has nothing to do with the original or Synaptics driver I just installed! So If I can please get some help on how to get my Synaptics Driver back so I can change my mouse settings that would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance.

I'm having a problem where my mouse doesn't move while a key is pressed. In Settings>Mouse & Touchpad, under the "touchpad" heading, the "Delay before clicks work after typing (paraphrased)" settings is set to No Delay (always on). From the above screen>Additional mouse settings>smartsense>settings cog next in smartsense bar:The top setting is all the way left on the "off" selection of a ticked bar.The second bar labeled "tapping disabled time after keystroke" is all the way left. The third bar labeled "pointing disabled time after keystroke" is all the way left. The first top bar being set to "off" causes the bottom half of the setting screen to be grayed out. From the searching I did, apparently the settings are correct(?), but it's not disabling the feature.A solution that worked for a few people was to install a previous driver and set it to not automatically update it. After a good bit of searching around on this very confusing-to-me site, I was unsuccessful at finding the driver I need. My current driver installed is:Synaptics TouchPad Driver (Windows 10 v1607) Rev. I restarted the system and saw that the touchpad was working OK, except Scrybe software which does not work at all, launching any of the programs/internet shortcuts. So I uninstalled the driver and I'm looking only for the Synaptics driver, not bundled with Scrybe software. Do you have a download link for 64-bit please? Thanks.

I just upgraded to Windows 10 and upgraded my synaptics driver to their windows 10 version. Only trouble is the little red light in the corner is always on. The light is only supposed to come on if the trackpad has been disabled but the trackpad is working and the light is on. On top of that the double tap the corner function that turns the trackpad on and off doesn't seem to be an option with this version of the driver.

I managed to find a registry hack to get chiral scrolling to work again but can't seem to find/enable the corner double tap and rid myself of this stupid light.

ETA: Okay weirder still the light is reversed, when I plug in my USB mouse the light goes out and the trackpad is disabled.

Just Installed (clean install) Windows 7 64 bit on my laptop today, what a pain, tried an update first on my 32 bit but had problems so I decided to go ahead with installin 64 bit as my computer was compatible.

Anyway, got it installed and I'm re-installing my software.

Main problem is I can't seem to get a driver for my touchpad on my laptop which is a Fujitsu Siemens just over a year old. Fujitsu do not have 64 bit drivers but I got one from which is supposed to be compatible and signed but when I try to run it I get the error message that it is not a Win32 app.

Anyone got an answer for me.

I successfully upgraded yesterday from 8.1 and this morning I was looking at the new "desktop switcher." I was looking for an OSX style touchpad gesture to switch between them. I followed the instructions on the second part of Get Mac-Like Scrolling and Gestures on a Windows Laptop to try and get a custom synaptics driver working. In the course of this, I uninstalled the factory synaptics drivers using "Programs and Features" in the control panel. When trying to install the new custom drivers, I got the error:

"A newer version of the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver is installed.

If you want to install the older version of the Driver, please uninstall the current Synaptics driver by selecting "Synaptics Pointing device" from the "Add/Remove Programs" Control Panel, then run Setup again."

At this point, my touchpad no longer works at all. So I tried to restore the driver to what it was originally.

My first thought was to get windows update to update it for me. I got "Lenovo synaptics touchpad driver" to appear in the list of updates. When trying to update, it threw the error:
"Synaptics driver update for Lenovo Pointing Device - Error 0x80070002"

After rebooting and attempting again with no success, I turned to Lenovo's website. I found the support page for my device:

I have a Dell laptop running Windows 64 Home. This was new in November of 2011. After receiving it, I went through the tedious task of updating it via MS Update. I noticed after upgrading, the mouse started behaving very strangely where it would take off and shutter, not respond or be very slow to respond. Contacted Dell and they had me turn off a bunch of stuff on the Dell Touchpad app. This helped but did not fix the issue. I ended up re-installing the OS and made sure the drivers were installed in the correct order using the drivers disk supplied by Dell. Haves since installed the most current driver provided by Dell on their website (April 2011). There continues to be issues with the mouse freezing from time to time. I looked at other threads and removed the Tap to Click feature. There is not much left on and the problem persists.

Dell wants $129 to re-install the OS and drivers, but I really don't think that will make a difference. I think there is some pretty whacky stuff with the Synaptics driver for this mousepad and looks like many other manufacturers.

Has anyone tried contacting Synaptics to see what they have to say about it?

Hi Ehickey,

My name is George from Dell Social Media Team. You can try this link to download the appropriate touchpad drivers for your computer Drivers and Downloads | Dell [United States]
1. Put in the service tag or by selecting the model of your computer and then choose the operating system.
2. After choosing the right operating system drop down INPUT and then download the drivers for touchpad. Be cautious to choose the updated driver
3. Install downloaded driver and then restart your computer.

I guess this is simple enough. I was looking through the Synaptics site and of course they have a newer driver version. But I didn't just install that right away. I checked the driver update page for the Y500 and also my installed driver and it appears that there is a newer version on my machine than is available on the download page. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with either the Synaptics site drivers or the download page drivers. In particular I was hoping to find the side scrolling feature where you can scroll using the side of the touchpad instead of being forced to use two fingers. Yes I am that lazy. Otherwise I will just leave well enough alone.

First off i apologize for me not being very computer savvy
I have bought a Lenovo Z50-70. Before that i had a (i believe - i can't really find out the exact model, sadly) G510. They both use Synaptics touchpads i understand.
Now, i liked the feel of the old touchpad better than what i feels like on the new one. So i was wondering if i can somehow install the driver from the old G510 on the Z50-70 to get the same feel. The Z50 driver makes the finger to screen movement non-linear where the G510 was linear which i prefer
Thanks in advance

I just bought a HP Pavillion dv6000. I am trying to enable the scroll on the touch pad. When I go to the control panel to mouse a message come up stating: UNABLE TO CONNECT TO THE SYNAPTICS POINTING DEVICE DRIVER. Can someone tell what I need to do to connect.

Answer:Synaptics Pointing Device Driver

Sound like the driver may not be properly installed. First check Device Manager to see if it's working OK (Start...Run...type in "devmgmt.msc" (without the quotes) and press Enter. See if the device has a red x or yellow ! by it.

You can go to the HP site and download updated drivers for the touchpad if need be.

Then, check in Control Panel for the Mouse or Pointing Device option - then open it to see if the rest of the software is functioning correctly.

Finally, ensure that any switches that may enable this are turned on (there may not be a switch - I'm unsure about HP laptops). But I had a similar problem with a touchpad that took 2 hours to solve - and all it was was that the switch was off!

If i restart the process, it usually closes again within 15 seconds of the process being restarted. Does anybody have any insight about what causes this and how it can be stopped?

Also, after i restart the computer, SynTPEnh.exe stays on for a while and the cycle i described previously continues.

Hi There,

I have a synaptics touchpad driver installed on my laptop it is listed in my mouse options under devices settings as "Synaptics Pointing Device - v25.0.4" and under devices in the same tab the name is listed as "Synaptics touchpad v7.2".

The problem I am having is that in the devices settings tab I have checked the box that says "Disable internal pointing device when external USB pointing devices is attached" because frequently the mouse cursor will jump around the screen when typing and mess up what I am doing. Problem is that when I want to use the touchpad and unplug the mouse, the touchpad will work fine until I shut down the computer. On startup (whether clean boot or restoring from standby) the touchpad will no longer work (with or without a mouse connected). When this happens I have tried a fresh reboot of the laptop, but the problem remains. I have tried reconnecting my mouse before shutting down or closing the lid of my laptop but the problem persists. Some times when using the touchpad the power cord on my laptop unplugs and when I plug it back in the touchpad no longer works, yet when I unplug the cord it will work again. I don't get any error messages when any of these things happen, they just happen without warning.
When I go into my mouse settings and go to the device settings tab, the devices list is now empty and all other options are greyed out, including the check box to disable the touchpad when a mouse is connec... Read more

Answer:Synaptics touchpad driver keeps breaking

because frequently the mouse cursor will jump around the screen when typing and mess up what I am doing

That's a fairly common issue and my wife and daughter solved it by getting Toshiba Notebooks that have a switch between the touchpad and the keyboard to turn the touchpad off, both use a external mouse. The problem stems from the sensitivity of the touchpad and where a person's thumbs want to rest while typing. Adding to the problem is the type of touchpad that has the vertical and horizontal scroll areas.

I'd go into Device Manager and uninstall both instances for the touchpad and reboot, should install the drivers again, handy when an installation gets corrupted.

The file is 168 MB may take awhile to download. A reboot is required.

I have a Lenovo Ideapad Y510P with Windows 8.1. For months or longer, I have been having an issue with the touchpad software. After days of use it will stop responding to advanced commands like two finger scrolling unless I restart the computer. If I try to access the icon in the right corner on the taskbar, the application will not open. It cannot be right clicked. If I try too much the taskbar freezes. I tried to access Mouse in control pad - no response, I couldn't access it. I tried to look for updates for the driver and it would always say it is totally updated or when I manually download one it would say that it is already installed or something.

So today I decided I would fix this problem. I uninstalled the application, and removed the driver in the Drivers section in control panel. I downloaded the program again from the Synaptics site for my computer and tried to install.

The message: "A previous version of the Synaptics TouchPad Driver is installed. If you continue installation, the driver may not install properly. To avoid this problem, press 'No' to exit setup...

I never pressed no the multiple times I tried to install and install would always fail after about 15 seconds. I then looked for traces of Synaptics on my computer in Program Files and Driver folder. Deleted all Synaptics folders and emptied recycling bin.

Problem still persists. Need help. I rebooted my computer a couple times along the way, but not after I deleted those folder... Read more

Touchpad just stopped working while I was using it. Here's what's going on:

Fn + F7 does nothing
Synaptics ps/2 Port Touchpad shows in Device manager, however it is hidden and has a yellow exclamation point. Error code: This device is not present, is not working properly, or does not have all its drivers installed. (Code 24).

I have updated the drivers from the Gateway website by first uninstalling the drivers that were present. No go. I then updated the drivers from the synaptics website via the same method, nothing. I've tried searching for a driver via device manager....nothing.

As I mentioned, I tried Fn+F7 and nothing happened. Also I notice that the driver software is not loading in the tray like it used to and I can't even make it run by trying to open the .exe file.

Any ideas? I've been searching for an answer for this for a while with no luck.

The touchpad on my HP G62 laptop was less responsive than normal. I tried changing the properties with no improvement. So I went to HP help and noticed that there was a driver update for this device. So I ran the update. Then the touchpad barely worked at all and a notice box said the driver was incompatible with current system. The advice on the web included more than one remark advising to not bother with the Synaptics website as it is unreliable. I did it anyway. Synaptics recognised I had a legal copy of Windows 7 Home and I downloaded the suggested driver. Which actually was a new version entirely. Now the pad is back to life just like old times. The HP update was outdated. Every time I have used any HP updates I run into problems. I suggest HP users forget all about the "Support Assistant" and seek more credible update sources. Thnx, gnuguy.

Yep, there is definitely a bug with the version of the driver on a T440s. I had to rollback to in order to fix it.The issue (hang up) happens when my laptop wakes up from sleep. I have to restart in order to bring back the trackpad. It's a shame that more than 3 months later this driver is still being offered to T440s users via System Update app and has not being fixed.

This is now the third forum I have posted to regarding this issue.I've been to Sevenforums and to the HP forums.I don't know how/when this happened (because I rarely restart my pc) but,I recently had to restart after some updates and after restarts now it seems that I have to physically load the Synaptics touchpad driver in order for things like (in particular) two finger scrolling) to work.
I uninstalled the Synaptics driver (because Synaptics site has a newer version.HP,so far, isn't supporting the new one). I was instructed to restart the pc after uninstalling the old driver and before installing the new one. That's when the problems started. After booting to the Windows login screen, the keyboard became disabled and I was unable to use the pc.
I've done a system restore and all is back to normal. But,I'm still left with the original problem (having to physically load the Synaptics software because it's not loading itself). Have any of you ever experienced this problem and if so,how did you remedy this situation ?

Honestly...if you have an HP should get your drivers for basic functions from the HP website.  Theoretically, all drivers for a specific item SHOULD be useable...but "should" is a word that often does not apply to OEM systems, IMO.

I'm using Windows 10 64-bit system, and have used it for over a year with no problems. This problem started kinda weird out. I was watching a movie, and I paused it to go take a smoke. I came back five minutes later and now I couldn't move the cursor from the touchpad, or barely. I tried deleting the synaptics driver and installing the latest version quite a few times. Here's the thing though, the touchpad works without the driver, though sometimes left click, and right clicking doesn't work, however I'm still able to move the cursor. When I install the synaptics touchpad driver left click and right click works, but I am not really able to move the cursor. I can see the touchpad respons to the pressure of my fingers moving across it, but it doesn't move the cursor along the screen or only a small amount.  I have tried different prressures on the touchpad, but with no luck. The problem occurred a few hours ago.

The pointing device driver...allows notebook users to use that small area on the the same way that some use a mouse.

Me, I prefer a mouse. Sooo...if I remove mine from my laptop, there's no impact. If I used that area on the laptop, I would not remove the drivers for it, unless I thought that the drivers were damaged and needed to be replaced.

Chances are, replacement drivers are available for download at the website of the laptop manufacturer.

I own a Toshiba laptop that has served me very well since I bought it right after Windows 8 was released. However, every now and then the touchpad simply stops working. For a long time I've been trying to find a solution, but never cared enough to do major research. The basic features work; one finger for pointing, two finger tap for right click, double tap to drag. However, no gestures work. I can't scroll using the touchpad, I can't swipe from the right for Charms, and I can't swipe from the left for recent apps. Finally I noticed that every time these issues arise, Synaptics Pointing Device Driver, which always sits in my system tray, vanishes. I did a system check and it's nowhere on my computer. There is program data in my hard drive, but nothing else. It's like it no longer exists. However, it's still in my "Programs and Features" where I can uninstall it. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, I've just upgraded from Windows XP Home SP2 to Windows Vista Ultimate on my Toshiba Satellite a100. I was wondering where I could download a driver for Synaptics touchpad that works? I tried the generic drivers from Synaptics' website, but they do not install completely (the second component always fails to install). Then I tried the ones from Toshiba's website, but The Vista-compatible ones display an error that says error code "#5B4 @10". Then I tried The Windows XP-compatible drivers, and they work perfectly, except the fact that I cannot configure enhanced features such as virtual scrolling and tap zones.
I click on the icon in the tray, click on The Device Settings tab, and whenever I click on The Settings button nothing happens. Any help?

The ultrapad pointing devices on my TP X230T  has suddently stopped working.  I have tried deleting the driver and reinstalling.  I have tried downloading the latest driver from the Lenovo site.  None of this helps.  See the screenshot below for the specific error message, "Synaptics (SmbDrv system)" failed to install. I am running Windows 10, 64-bit.  I upgraded several months ago. Note error message

Hi DAVANDEN, Some report that installing the driver twice works, so you might try just running the driver install again and see if that fixes the prolbem You might also try uninstalling the device via Device Manager Control Panel (right click on Start > Device Manager), selecting "Delete the Driver Software for this Device" if offered, and then rebooting before trying to reinstall the driver. Good Luck,   Good Luck.

I installed the latest version of synaptics drivers for my Toshiba laptop, however, I am unable to vertically scroll using my touchpad, as I used to with the older version of the driver that suddenly stopped working. I installed the new version, rebooted, but when I clicked Control panel > Mouse Properties > Device Settings, under "Devices" I see Standard Pointing Device" Ps/2. I click "Settings", only to find two items Overview and Buttons. Nothing about the virtual scrolling. Any ideas?

I am using Dell Inspiron 3543 with windows 10 Home. My Synaptics Driver is malfunctioning.

Symptoms and Problem
The touchpad is working fine. Sometimes, after using laptop for a while, I am unable to perform 2-finger scrolling as well as touchpad get somewhat sticky and not as smooth as it was. This problem troubles me much as using 2-finger scrolling feature is very useful.

The one main symptom is as soon as when the 2-finger scrolling stops, at the same time the Dell touchpad (synaptics driver) icon in the system tray also get freezes, means it doesn't respond to any 'touch' pressure.

I tired contacting Dell, they updated my Synaptics Driver but after sometime the problem again started. I also tired uninstalling Synaptics Driver. But none of the solution works permanently. Only one temp solution is a reboot (restart).

Also I upgraded to windows 8.1 to 10 but the problem is as same as it was.

Please help

When I press a key, I can not use my left click at the same time, and I need to wait like 0,5s after releasing the key to be able to use the left click.

I guess it's some feature from Synaptics touchpad drivers. Unfortunately I do not have the Synaptics Control Panel app. I have some kind of control panel from Dell that allow me to change few features on my touchpad, but the one I'm looking for is definitely missing.

I also had a problem where my touchpad wouldn't let me move the cursor while pressing any key. Similar problem. I fixed it by changing some values on Regedit for Synaptics.

Do you know which value I need to change on Regedit to fix my left click problem ? Is there some options on Windows that would allow me to do the same, without touching anything to Synaptics ?

Thank you a lot in advance !
OS : Windows 10.0.15063 Build 15063
Laptop model : Alienware 17 R4
Synaptics driver version : (up to date)
EDIT: Here is how looks like the panel I have where I can change few features about my touchpad :

Also, for those who would ask me to change a feature in "Mouse & Touchpad". I actually searched for it, It's not available for me.

First off;The TrackPoint is a mystery as to why it's there... I really don't get it so I just let that be.Synaptics installation notes says "The TrackPoint driver does not need to be installed on the UltraNav models." <- So why did the installer not present me that option? Second; The mechanical buttons around the touchpad are halfway there.Uninstalling Synaptics and letting Win take care of it makes the lower buttons work but not the top half (weird as f--k).I've reinstalled Synaptics and cleared the registry severall times with no improvement. To make the upper buttons work I have to disable buttons in TouchPad settings - other settings does no good.Hardware scan says nothing's wrong so I have no idea why Synaptics can't make it work.T430 TouchPad TrackPointI've lived with this issue for some time but what really bugged me was lately when I started playing the game Dawn of Steel by FlareGames: I could not pan or tilt within the so called orb (a map system in DoS) - not with TouchPad nor with an externall mouse. Flaregame support gave nothing. So I started the time consuming work investigating the system. Found out that by killing the process 'synaptics pointing device helper' the movement within the game works - no change in buttons though...Is it just me?

Hoping I can get some help here, this has been frustrating me for a while now.

I have two input devices, my Y470's Synaptics trackpad and a Logitech mouse.
When using Firefox only with my mouse, pages scroll multiple lines at a time, like they should. If after starting Firefox I scroll with the trackpad, then switch back to my mouse, pages will scroll one line at a time. This persists until I close Firefox.
It's as if Firefox chooses the scrolling speed based on which input device it detects first.
The problem seems to go away when rolling back to Lenovo's/Synaptics' Windows XP touchpad driver (15.x). However, these older drivers are limited in functionality.
Can anyone offer some insight on this? Many thanks.

If not, could someone tell me if this is duplicatable on other Lenovo machines (not necessarily Y470s)? Thank you.

Within the last year the Synaptics touchpad on my Ideapad Y530, running Windows 7 Pro, became intermittent.  Because I use a mouse, this was not much of an issue but I did try to fix the problem.  I read all the forums, uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, even trying some other drivers from the Synaptics website (this may not have been a good idea).  Nothing worked and I let it rest.  Most recently I took the laptop to a meeting and forgot the mouse.  Negotiating through Windows is not all that easy without a mouse or buttons, but I did manage to get what I wanted and get out gracefully.  So, I decided to revisit the touchpad issue. The first thing I noticed is that the touchpad is not listed in the Device Manager.  There is an Unknown Device but trying to install a driver using the automatic search did nothing.  I uninstalled and reinstalled using the driver from the Lenovo site.  It does not work.  I then saw that in the C:\Drivers\ folder, Windows explorer shows TWO Synaptics Pointing Device Driver folders.  I uninstalled the driver and one folder went away but the other is still there.  I tried to delete this folder but Windows Explorer says it Could not find this item.  If I try using the CMD prompt, a dir shows the directory but if I try to CD Synaptics Pointing Device Driver it says PATH NOT FOUND.  In Windows Explorer I can double click on the folder and it shows three entries (the ones ins... Welcome To Lenovo Community
We are really sorry to hear about the issue you are facing,
Please try a complete Power Drain instead of shutting down and restarting (remove battery/ac power and leave off for a minute), then press the power button for 30-40 sec, Now connect battery and adaptor power on the system
After Powering on press F2 to boot into the BIOS, when you're in Bios, press F9 to reset the settings to factory and press F10 to save and exit BIOS.
After booting back to the OS, uninstall the current touchpad driver, press Fn+F6 to disable/enable the Touchpad, you will see an On screen Display icon if the Touchpad is disabled or enabled
Restart the system. Try installing the following drivers
Ideapad Y530 series touchpad driver Win7 32 Bit
Ideapad Y530 series touchpad driver Win7 64 Bit
If this doesn't work, you will need to contact Lenovo for service. Support phone list here.
Do give this a try and let us know
Hope This Helps

OK, I upgraded my Toshiba Satellite C55-B5302 laptop to Windows 10 yesterday (it formerly ran on Windows 8.1) , but today, I wanted to change my touchpad settings, because I noticed that my cursor was set to the "none" (the one that looks like it's from Win2000), I found the Synaptics settings, when I clicked it, I saw this

"Unable to connect to the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver. If you have installed another PS/2 Pointing Device Driver please uninstall the Synaptics driver by clicking on the Yes button. You then need to reinstall your pointing device driver for your external device again. Do you want to uninstall the Synaptice driver now? [Yes] [No]"

this happens every time. How do I fix this???

Hello,  After upgrading to Windows 10, a new version of the Synaptics Touchpad driver for my X220T was automatically installed. However, I soon found that 2-finger scrolling is extraordinarily slow, even after manipulating some of the Synaptics control panel settings such as "scroll speed", and that "inertia" pointing has been turned on by default, which is very annoying.  I have been able to hide the update for now (using the wushowhide.diagcab tool) even though hiding updates in Windows 10 is far more convoluted than in Windows 8.1 and have installed the Windows 8.1 driver from Lenovo Downloads instead.  My question is, when will a driver from Lenovo or with appropriate fixes from Synaptics be released? William

Answer:Terrible Windows 10 Synaptics Touchpad Driver

I need a new driver as well.  Because of the 'resizing mouse pointer' problem when pressing the middle trackpad button on my X1 Carbon 3.  (sucks to have to deal with this on a new ($$$) machine) here's some links...   BTW I had this problem on both win 8.1 and win 10. And...

Hi, I'm own an Aspire V3-572G-77S8 with windows 8.1 running on it. I have installed all of the drivers from the acer support web. Everything is working great but the touchpad. It seems impossible to install correctly any driver wether Synaptics or Elantech. When I install it (synaptics driver version verything seems to be fine, but the mouse doesn't use the new driver, it's like I haven't installed anything and it uses the generic one by windows. I've tried disbling the sign driver feature on windows8.1, and forcing to use the synaptics driver on the device manager but when I do that the pointer dissappears, and the mouse doesn't work propperly. Also I've downloaded previous version of the drivers from acer and the generic from the synaptics driver. Nothing works. Please, what can I do? I'd love to have the drivers workig to set up my mouse preferences and enabling the 3 and 4 fingers gestures (on windows 7 in this computer worked great!) Greetings from Spain

It sounds like this system shipped with Windows 8.1. A lot of our newer systems come with the Microsoft Precision touchpad.

Since I received my Inspiron 17 5000 (5749), Win8.1 x64 the Synaptics touchpad works but the driver settings do not. When I go to modify settings from the control panel, clicking on the Synaptics DELL Touchpad link/button, nothing happens. I tried going directly to the executable in c:\program files\synaptics and it will launch but when I click on three of the four buttons in the GUI, nothing happens. When I click on the first one it crashes the application. I have tried installing, uninstalling, and reinstalling the driver to no avail.
I found that I am not alone in this. There is a post on:
which says:
On Inspiron 17 5000 (5749), Win8.1 x64 the Synaptics touchpad WORKS but settings cannot be modified in “Control Panel/Mouse/Dell Touchpad”. I’don’t see any tray-icon related to the touchpad (with driver 18.1.16)! This issue is still here since I bought the laptop!!!

Answer:Synaptics driver not working on Inspiron 17 (5749)

My experience with Dell pad drivers is that they are not real good and not fully functional. I ALWAYS go to the Toshiba site and download the appropriate driver. These drivers are full function, not the crippled Dell drivers.
