Preferred Solution: Dell Touchpad not scrolling Sideways. But scrolling Up & Down

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Dell Touchpad not scrolling Sideways. But scrolling Up & Down

On both my Acer aspire one netbook (synaptics) and my Lenovo notebook (alps) I need to tab twice on the lower edge of the touchpad (to gain its attention?!?) and then it will scroll. Beyond that I believe you need to take a walk on the Dell support web site. There are number of 14xx models so you need to follow the steps there to find the freshest driver for your particular model. On both of mine the newest drivers have given scrolling as well as "pinching" to re-size pages, photos etc.

Hi,
So I've just picked up my brand new Dell XPS 13 (9343) laptop today and everything is working perfectly. The only issue that I have with it at the moment is the touchpad scroll speed as I feel it is too slow for my liking. I can't seem the find the touchpad settings in the control panel, nor can I find any relevant drivers for the model that I have.
Is there a way to increase the scroll speed?

Answer:Dell XPS 13 (9343) touchpad scrolling speed.

Hello all,

I recently installed Windows 7 x64 onto my Dell Latitude D630 and found that the scrolling with the touchpad does not work at all. I have already downloaded and installed the Synaptics driver and nothing happened. I also downloaded R165804.exe directly from Dell's site and it came up with an error saying that 'the software does not work on your operating system. Click OK to exit.'

What now?

Answer:How to Enable Scrolling on Dell Latitude D630 Touchpad?

The Dell downloads do not show a touchpad driver for Vista 64 bit. Just the one you have which is listed for Vista 32 bit only.

Try installing that in a compatibility mode and see if that will help.

You can also post on the Dell laptop forum and maybe someone there will have something for you. Officially Dell does not support Win 7 on this model, although Vista drivers should work OK.

Hello all. I have a problem with my helix. I bought a used helix and have had it for only a few days. I have run into a problem where sometimes the two-finger scrolling gets flipped and swiping left/right scrolls up and down and up/down scrolls left and right. I thought I had it fixed one day because I was playing with the autorotation lock and that fixed it but now it's doing it again. Has any had this problem or is there a setting I can fix? This is my first Lenovo and I?m unsure of all the bells and whistles setting that can be fiddled with. Thanks in advance

The previous driver allowed for edge scrolling but latest version does not have the capability.I understand for those upgrading to Windows 8 with touch screen capability this is not an issue but what about us who do not have touch screen. In my opinion this is a major flaw. Please let me hear form you if you too are unhappy about the new Windows 8 Touch pad driver. By the way, I tried rolling the driver back but the previous driver causes serious erratic behavior. Below is a screen shot of the version for the newest Windows 8 Touch Pad driver.

This problem appears on Windows 8.1

Answer:[Dell touchpad] one finger scrolling feature missing on Windows 8 doesn't work

Try this:
1) Go into c:\program files\DellTPad\
2) In this dir I have
  a)  DellTouchpad.exe: this is the app called from control panel whose picture you posted.
  b)  DellTPad.exe alternate utility to set touchpad setting. When launching this I have this option (translating into english) "one finger actions/multi-finger actions", and then it allows you to set single finger vertical/horizontal scrolling.

Just got a brand new laptop, Dell Inspiron 11 3137, and updated to windows 8.1. The touchpad does not work properly now; gestures/scrolling/pointer not working. I've spent over 16 hours getting windows 8.1 installed and then troubleshooting this issue. I've contacted Dell; updated the driver from Dell, even tried installing the latest driver from Synaptic. I even tried setting the Synaptic app to run under the windows 8 version.
Touchpads have been around a long time. It's the last thing I expect not to work properly.
At this point I am ready to send the laptop back and call it quits on windows.
Can anybody help with this?

Hi,
SO, You're having problems with 8.1 and the Synaptics Dell Touchpad!? I wish I could say I've never seen this before. I won't open up with "Have you tried this?" Instead, I'm confident this will "fix what ails ya"  There have been a wealth of problems with touchpads (Alps included) and not just on Dell systems, during the transition from windows 8 to 8.1 (I still can't figure out why they didn't just call it SP1) IN ANY EVENT> give this a go and please get back to me after you've done it so I can share with others who are experiencing the same problem. I'll explain WHY these steps at the end...Go ahead peek ...I won't tell anyone!
Locate the current driver for your touchpad from  Dell Support by entering your service tag number here:
http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/DriversHome/ShowProductSelector?fkey=Drivers_PS
SAVE the download to somewhere convenient like your desktop (you can put it somewhere else later)
1) From the control panel under Programs / Uninstall a Program locate the Synaptics Pointing Device Driver and completely uninstall the software.  but DO NOT RESTART if prompted. Instead select the restart later option.
2) From the control panel under Hardware and Sound locate the Device Manager in the Devices and Printers category and click on it (device manager may require admin permission.)

Hi,
I have the brand new Dell XPS 13 9350 with Windows 10. When I use the touchpad with two fingers to scroll down on websites the content "jumps" back up some lines. This happens when lifting the fingers from the touchpad.
It occurs in Chrome and Edge and is pretty annoying because I'm losing focus on the page I'm reading everytime I use two finger scrolling.
Any idea how this can be fixed? I found no driver for touchpad on Dells support page for the XPS 13 and I'm not sure if I should use Synaptic drivers ...
Thanks in advanceFrank

Answer:Dell XPS 13 9350 touchpad two finger scrolling "jumps"

I can also confirm problems with my brand new XPS13 which i received today. For me the touchpad is, let's say, unresponsive.
If i start scrolling up or down with two fingers it needs 1-2 seconds of scrolling before it starts scrolling on the screen. This is VERY annoying!
I mean the scrolling on my 7 year old Sony Vaio was better than this....
How to fix it?! The problem appears in every program

We just got a Dell XPS-15z, and, we have questions about scrolling on the Cypress touchpad using the Cypress drivers.

When scrolling down (either one finger or 2 fingers), when you hit the bottom of the touchpad, is there any way for the scrolling to continue without your having to lift your finger(s) back to the top of the touchpad? On other Dell laptops, I have Chiral motion, or the scrolling continues so long as your finger is at the bottom of the touchpad? I tried enabling the "Continued Motion" option just in case that was what did it, but that did not seem to work.

Which brings up another question re what "Continued Motion" does.

Also, is there any manual/help document for this driver either on the internet, or in the software itself?

I looked on the forum and on the internet, and couldn't find any answers.

TIA.

Hi.

Have recently downloaded Opera browser & find the Synaptics scroll function no longer works !
All other funtions seem OK & scrolling is still fine with MS Explorer
Can anyone tell me if this can be fixed ?
[Using a Satellite 5200-902]

Also Touchpad light goes out after 5 seconds.[This is normal]
Does anyone know if it is possible to find the code & change this to say 60 seconds ?

Any help with the above would be appreciated
Thanks

Answer:Satellite 5200 - Touchpad scrolling in Opera / Touchpad backlight

I?m not sure but I think the Opera explorer doesn?t support this option.

But if the Opera supports this option so maybe you have to enable it only in the Opera settings?
But sorry I don?t use the explorer and therefore I can?t give you a exactly instruction hoe to do it.

But play around with the settings or visit some Opera support sites

My touchpad has lost its scrolling functions since I upgraded to Windows 10, a year ago, and nothing I try can fix that.    I understand Windows comes with built-in drivers for mouse and touchpad, with the basic functions for the cursor. But that Synaptics drivers, with other functions like scrolling, are quickly downloaded and installed.   Well, in my case, it seems that these Synaptics drivers never take over, never get to actually control the touchpad: they seem correctly installed and activated, and I do check the scrolling functions all right; but the touchpad continues to behave as if it were still driven by the basic built-in drivers in Windows.   In fact sometimes I uninstall and totally delete the Synaptics drivers and make do with the basic Windows software; until the next automatic downloading of the useless Synaptics.   Thanks for any help.

Hi guys

I made a mistake and uninstalled the original driver for the mousepad, stupidly. Anyway, I was able to find the drivers to get it to work again. But I have a minor issue which I hope someone can help me fix.

I cant get the scrolling ability to work when you use the edges of the mousepad to scroll up and down or left and right. Is there something im missing which can get this to work or is it a lost cause.

Thank you

Answer:Can't use scrolling on touchpad

Hi

Can you also tell us what notebook and OS you have? This would be useful to write useful advices how to solve your problem.

Normally you can enable/disable the virtual scrolling function in Mouse settings. Therefore go in control panel > Mouse. Check the properties there and then you can enable/disable this function.

I bought this laptop only two days ago and I cannot get the touchpad to do page scrolling. I have enabled scrolling in the mouse settings within control panel, but it's still not working. I downloaded the latest driver from the lenovo website and still nothing. The touchpad does all the other motion controls. Any help is appreciated!

Answer:G50-70 touchpad not scrolling

You have installed latest Synaptic touchpad driver from website and you are still facing an issue in page scrolling, then you can try changing the settings of the One/ Two Finger Scrolling feature (located under Mouse Properties). Try below steps to resolve the issue:1. In Mouse Properties window as seen below, choose Device Settings.2. Under Device Settings, select Settings.3. You can customize the scrolling behavior of your mouse by checking the relevant boxes under Scrolling.4. You can opt to enable vertical and/or horizontal scrolling according to your preference.5. Click on OK to apply the changes.

Hello! I want to make full use of the touchpad - but I can't scroll pages by dragging the finger at the right end of the touchpad. There is a folder in the D directory with small videos demonstrating different touchpad features. It's in:Lenovo D - Drivers - Touchpad - 11.4.31.1 - x64 Here I found the video demonstrating "continous edge scroll". There are several exe-files in this folder. By the way, I have the driver 11.4.31.1 installed. In mouse settings there are only very basic settings for the "Elan smart pad" .I didn't find any scroll settings. What may be the issue?

I just bought this laptop and I can't seem to enable touchpad scrolling? The touchpad itself is working, but there's no way to scroll. Everything I've found online says it was a problem with Windows 10, and you have to enable that setting under Mouse Properties in the ELAN tab, but when I go there, there's no device listed. Is there anything I can do to fix this?

I've got a Dell D630 and when I had XP, I downloaded the Dell Touchpad Driver to gain touchpad scrolling functionality. Now that I've upgraded to Windows 7, the driver page opens as usual, but I can no longer select the "Touchpad Settings" or "Scrolling Settings" options ("External Mouse" and "Device Select" open just fine). Is there another driver out there I should be using? Thanks!

After upgrading to Windows 10 from Windows 7 the Synaptics PS/2 touchpad no longer has scolling ability. I have tried vertical and horizontal, as well as 1 and 2 finger. The touch pad is enabled and scolling is enabled. The current driver is 19.0.12.98 which was updated by windows update. I have downloaded and installed 19.0.19.1 from the Synaptics website and it didn't work. I have tried the Windows 8 driver from Synaptics as well and had no luck (failed to install even in compatibility mode). The original Compaq Windows 7 driver wouldn't work either. If any of you have had trouble with your laptop's scrolling touchpad you can now get a suitable driver from the good guys at Dell , it doesn't matter whether you are using a Dell machine at all , I'm using this driver on a Fujitsu Siemens v2010 , albeit an updated one with a Pentium M 1.5ghz , 1GB ram and an 80GB 8mb cache hard drive , and it works excellently , I think this should work for the Synaptics pad as well as the almost standard Alps Glide Pad . click here for the driver . I have a new XPS 15 9560 laptop with a precision touchpad (Microsoft drivers) running Windows 10 (1703, 64-bit). The touchpad generally works fine, but with two-finger scrolling sometimes I experience a 0.5 s lag OR the pad interprets the gesture as a pointer move (although I definitely use 2 fingers). The behavior is seemingly random, but it occurs quite often.I disabled "pinch to zoom" in settings. I also tried increasing the touchpad sensitivity in settings and reducing the APPThreshold in the registry to 0 (Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\PrecisionTouchPad), but this didn't help.Does anyone have an idea how to fix this? Many thanks,Geert

Purchased a HP ze4930us notebook last week. Have been having minor problems with the scrolling option on the touchpad, the thing on the right side of the touchpad that lets you easily scroll up and down web pages and other things. Sometimes it doesn't work.

Under one scenario, I will have to click on the webpage somewhere to get it to work. But the webpage is already selected even before I do this, because I am able to scroll the manual way, using the up and down arrows, or the page up and page down arrows. Why do I have to click somewhere on the webpage when it is already selected?

Under another scenario, the scrolling option won't even work even when I do click somewhere on the webpage. I am able to do everything else though, like scroll by using the arrows or page up and down arrows. The only way I can get the touchpad scrolling to work on the page is to either minimize the page I want to use the scrolling, and then maximize it again, or open, or make another window prominent, window, and then go back to the window that I want to do the scrolling. This works as well.

Usually, though, I do not have any problems with the scrolling on the touchpad.

Answer:problems with scrolling when using touchpad

I have a new ZV5000 and the scroll, while not as bad as you describe IS less sensitive than the one on my older ZT1170.

I'm not sure if it is because of the ridges on the new one or not? There are some adjustments under the Control Panel/Mouse screens that may help you?

Under "Tapping" I set the touch sensitivity to HIGH and that has helped me.

Other things I have noticed is that if there is a Window WITHIN a window, such as on the Forum's POST section, the scrolling function is specific to where the cursor is positioned....NOT the Pointer.

The same is true for Websites that use "Frames".

But the thing that STILL drives me nuts is the autoscrolling at the top and bottom of the scroll line on the touchpad!!! I always hit the spot and scroll PAST where I want to be. I have been training myself to lift my finger off the pad at the end of a scroll stroke.

This seems like a simple problem that can be easily fixed by maybe turning on some sort of setting. On my laptop, for some reason, the scroll function just stopped working. I am running windows Vista and went into control panel>hardware and sound>mouse, but didn't see anything in there that could fix this. Hi all, i recently purchased a re-furbished 1040 G2 running W7 64 bit and am having a peculiar problem with the touchpad. Sometimes when I am 2 finger scrolling an icon is left behind on the screen and if I mouse over it I get the spinning blue symbol showing activity. The icon is the same as you would normally see while scrolling. I did try uninstalling and re-installing the driver, the driver is Synaptics version 190.0.17.1.

fter I installed Windows 7 (couldn't upgrade, had to do a custom install), the scrolling on the right side of my touchpad stopped working. I downloaded a new driver, but it still doesn't work.

When I go into the Synaptics device settings, it says that I have a "Standard Pointing Device" and when I look at the settings it only gives me options for two buttons (no scrolling options). I attached a picture of the options window I'm talking about.

Can anybody help?

My computer is an hp pavilion dv2000.

I have an OmniBook XE3 using XP pro, and am having problems with the touchpad automatically scrolling up and down when my cursor is not on the scrolling bar. This tends to happen quite frequently after I have carried out some scrolling, then released the click button and moved my cursor into the body of the text/page. It is quite irritating and I would welcome any advice on how I might stop this happening.

Answer:Touchpad scrolling problems

Not exactly surewhat is happening but you need to look at the touchpad utility which would be preloaded onto the system. With this you alter the behaviour of the touchpad e.g. speed of scrolling, double click speed etc. It`ll be in the start>programs list perhaps called "synaptics". Usually the right hand side of the touchpad area can be used to scroll up and down and the bottom left and right. If it`s a small pad this can be irritating.Similarly the touchpad may "lock" the scoll feature when you click the left button which is useful if you hae a long document but again irritating if you don`t!Havea readon thehelp file associated with your device. I`msure you can disable some of these features.

I have two touchpad scrolling issues. First, I would like to reverse the direction of scrolling up and down when I do a two finger vertical sweep. I cannot find the option in the Mouse and Touchpad section. Two, I would like to invoke horizontal scrooling action for the back function.  A two finger horizontal sweep should invoke the back to the last page function. I had both of these functions  with my Chromebook and became very used to them. Are these two functions possible on the Stream?

To eneble scrolling in vmware guest mechines we can install TwoFingerScroll application for windows pc from the below link

It will enable the scrolling with touchpad in VMware.First download the zip file and extract it.Then run the TwoFingerScroll.exe once, then check the right corner of the taskbar,if it does not appears there then check the hidden icons there. Now double click that icon and change the settings as you want. You may turn off the scrolling feature of your default touch pad application.
According to my tests to get most out of it we should turn off the acceleration, set the speed to its full limit, and set the scroll mode to compatible.

I have a Gateway NV58 Series with Windows Vista, but I upgraded to Windows 7 Pro. After that I am unable to scroll horizontally or vertically which I was able to do before.

I have downloaded the Synaptics driver, after uninstalling the original driver from Microsoft but still no luck. It says it is working properly under device manager. Also, under Device settings for Synaptic it gives no info for vertical or horizontal scroll. Only Overview, Right/ Left Click,

Any help would be appreciated

I have been to the support site and down loaded
D20247-001-001.exe
but that didn't do any good as there was no change. Besides, that driver was for Vista.

I have a DELL XPS M1530 laptop that I just installed a full version of Windows 7. It had Windows Vista on it before. It is a replacement computer for my old DELL (same model) that was having issues.

I usually hook up a bluetooth mouse when I use my computer, but I just noticed last night when I was using the touchpad instead, is that it does not scroll up and down, or left to right. The mouse part of the touchpad works fine, as does the left and right buttons.

I am assuming the scrolling is just turned off on this computer (thinking simply first ... hoping it is not a serious issue). But I cannot find where to check to see if it needs to be turned back on.

Any suggestions?

There are only drivers for Vista and not Win 7. This may be an issue.
You could try the Vista driver under input devices.

Hi.  I newly bought the T440p - and when i'm using 2-finger scrolling on website and such, suddenly it just jumps to the bottom of the page when i'm slowly scrolling down. Anyone besides me had this problem before - or might know what could be wrong??

Answer:Lenovo T440p touchpad scrolling

I just purchased a t440p and had the same problem although mine would always jump to the top of the page. This was infuriating on long pdfs or spreadsheets where scrolling slightly down would jump me all the way back to the top of the document.  Luckily, I downloaded the updated drivers from the link below and it fixed it right away. The new driver also smooths out the scrolling gestures overall. Even though its fixed, its still frustrating that a brand new device would have a problem look this and they couldn't even utilize the lenovo update software to distribute a solution.  http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=DS037579 or google "t440p drivers"

Hi everyone, I just received my spectre x380 model 13-4110dx. After spending months researching laptops I settled on the spectre and had it shipped all the way from the US to little Bangladesh here. Needless to say, issues popped up as soon as I turned on the thing, so here goes:TOUCHPAD:This is the big one. I am used to having the page move down with my fingers while two-finger scrolling, but the scrolling direction is reversed by default with coasting enabled. However, when turned off reverse scrolling and coasting in the synaptics settings it seems to work on some applications and not anothers. I tried resetting the computer and reinstalling the driver software AND I also tried installing the latest drivers from the synaptics website. Nothing's working so farHEAT:The bottom tends to run very hot even with normal web browsing, so much so that I can't place the thing on my lap for very long. I setup the fan to run always from the BIOS, but its still the same. At this temperatures I'm not sure how long the hardware is going to hold out Sorry for the long post, I'm really hoping you guys can help me figure things out

First of all, I'm running an ASUS Q550L Windows 8.1. I believe this system uses "SmartGesture" for the toucpad driver, which I uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times over the past couple of days trying to get this worked out. If there are other specs that I should share, let me know.

The problem is that the multi finger gestures, in particular two-finger scrolling has been suddenly glitching and lagging. Scrolling with arrow keys or the click scroll on the side of pages works, but when I'm trying to use the two-finger scroll gesture on any page or program, the movement either lags several seconds and does an incomplete motion or it does not have any motion at all. It also sometimes clicks after the lag at random.

I've un and re-installed the SmartGesture driver a couple of times and that has not helped the issue. I also turned off many of the gestures which I do not use (such as any 3-finger scrolls or anything involving the app screen)

Any ideas? (aside from "buy a mouse". Someone "suggested" that one already.)
Thanks very much =)

When I go to the Control Panel > Mouse, I get an error message that says that my laptop is not recognizing my touchpad.

It still lets me open the configure window if I hit "no," and when I go to Device Settings > Scrolling > One-Finger Scrolling, it does not let me check the "Enable Vertical Scrolling" box. When I click the box, nothing happens.

My Synaptics driver is enabled to turn on at start up, so I don't know why this problem is happening.

I think I must have disabled something in msconfig without realizing it, because one day when I turned on my laptop I just wasn't able to use vertical scrolling. Any ideas? Advice would be much appreciated! Thank you!

Answer:How do I enable touchpad vertical scrolling?

Hello moonlightxmania and welcome to Seven Forums.

If this issue just recently started you may be able to roll back your computer to a date/time prior to when it first began. See if you have a restore point that goes back that far.

System Restore

Another possibility is to see if you can update the Synaptics driver. Just as an example, my computer uses the Alps pointing device. When I go to control panel > mouse I get this:

When I click the Hardware tab and then double click on Alps pointing device I get this:

Click on the Driver tab and see if the "Update Driver" button can be clicked. (Mine is grayed out because I have the newest available driver.) If you can update the driver, do so. Please post back if your problem gets resolved.

Satellite ls7008. I have a laggy mouse when moving it with the touch-pad only. Every 4-6 seconds it stops then goes again. This is also happening when using the arrow keys on the keyboard when scrolling in a long web page. Now I am noticing input lag while typing. It does not do this when using a USB mouse(the mouse lag only). I have tried to restore, uninstall drivers, install new drivers(synoptics and Toshiba ones) and it still does it. I tried with and without a battery. I Turned off virus protection. Nothing has changed the input lag yet. Wondering if I need to reinstall windows 7 64bit as this really annoys me.

Hi . Have, or do you do any maintainence to Windows? With a problem like this, I would do some work on the registry, I use the Freeware program called 'Winmend registry defrag 1.3.4'. You can download it from www.winmend.com. It is a 'light' program, and unlikely to do harm (as some can). Do a backup of your current registry as a safety precaution, before the scan. Also try 'CCleaner', as a general scan of your system to clear up any further 'problems'. I use these programs often, along with 'Auslogics Disc defrag 3.1.'

I am using Windows XP Pro.  I have tried every combination of trackpoint and touchpad options, and I have ensured that the latest driver is installed.  The touchpad scrolling function simply does not work with Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, MS Access and a number of Visual Basic add-ins.  These are important, mainstream applications.  At the peak of frustration, I can plug in a USB mouse, and the mousewheel will scroll any of these applications perfectly.  I know these problems are not unique to my laptop because I have seen other posts describing similar problems.  Does anyone from Lenovo participate in this community?  How about giving us an explanation, or better yet, how about giving us a new touchpad driver.

Answer:X300 Touchpad Scrolling Problems

I have posted about the same problem, except I'm on Windows Vista Business. No touchpad scrolling with certain programs, while scrolling on a USB mouse works fine.  This happens with iTunes, Windows Live Mail, and any program through my Remote Desktop Conneciton to my work server.  Maybe we should start a list of programs for which X300 touchpad scrolling doesn't work... It definitely seems like a driver problem, and is a major problem when you consider this is one of the most expensive ultraportable laptops around. Lenovo, if you're out there: how about a new driver to solve this problem?...

I see that this notebook has a multi-gesture touchpad with the following features, you might have to use two fingers to scroll or check the touchpad settings to make sure it's enabled (if an option).

Two-finger scroll and pinch.
Swipes access charms, application commands, and previous applications.

Hi

Did you install the touchpad driver?

Please do this because the standard Win7 driver does not support extended touchpad options and settings.

Then after touchpad driver installation you can change the settings which can be found in control panel ? mouse -> advanced tab -> advanced features -> settings

Good luck!

It basically does not work. only about 10% of the time it "gets it" that I want to scroll. 2-finger scroll works a bit better but is still unusable and if you have properly working 1 finger scroll also unneeded. My eeepcs touchpad  was a lot better (windows) and extraordinary under linux compared to this piec. .. .... Is this fixable?Would be a real pity if not. Get most of it right and then ship it with a defect touchpad whoch makes it unusable especially considering vertical scroll is nowadays what you do most thanks to the doubtful 16:9 hype./rant Pointing stick is nice put if you are not really typing just reading a web page, or document a usuable 1-finger scroll on the touchpad is just a must.

Hello, I have a weird issue with my touchpad on Windows 10. On startup, the scrolling with the touchpad partially works, I mean, half of the time it scrolls properly, the other half it will zoom/unzoom or put the mouse pointer at a random place on the screen. I partially found a solution to this problem : as soon as Windows has finished to start, I close my laptop to put it in sleep mode, and after that, the scrolling works perfectly again, but everytime I reboot I have to do that so it becomes a little bit boring... Note that on a previous installation of Windows 10 on this computer (which was my second installation), I had the same issue, but the next day, an update has fixed it (or at least I think it was the update, I rebooted as the update asked me and the problem was gone so I don't know if it was the update, the reboot, or the magic...). And on my first installation, still on this computer, I never had this problem... So is this problem known here ? I've read so many thing things about touchpad issues, but that was always about touchpad not working at all, in my case, it works almost perfectly, just the scrolling will not perfectly works until I put the computer in sleep mode...

Answer:Weird touchpad issue (scrolling)

Update : When I created this thread I was on a triple boot Mac OS X Yosemite / Windows 10 / Linux Mint 17.3. After a few months, I had a problem with Linux that forced me to reinstall all my operating systems, and as I had a problem with the instalation of OS X, I skipped it and only reinstalled Windows and Linux. From this moment, the problem was gone. But yesterday, I took the time to reinstall OS X (and Windows and Linux because the HDD has to be empty to install OS X so I had to erase everything), then I reinstalled Windows and the problem was back. So I guess the problem is related to OS X, I don't see how and why but that's my only explanation... And I still haven't been able to really solve it so if you have any idea...

By default, when I move two fingers up, the text/images on the screen goes up. This is not what I'm used to as Windows machines usually operate the opposite. Any helpful suggestions are much appreciated.

I uninstalled the synaptics in my lenovo yoga 500 i7 however when I downloaded the link that you posted below, it is not compatible with my laptop. Now, the touchpad scroll feature is totally not working. Before I uninstalled it, it was intermittently working. This laptop has just been puchased a week ago.

Please advise. Thank you.

Answer:Yoga 500 - touchpad for scrolling up/down is not working

Welcome to the Lenovo Community maydee07 !

Unfortunately that is one of the problems encountered when you join a discussion for another Lenovo model. What downloads work for that model may not work for yours.  I have now moved your posting to the Lenovo Yoga forum which is a better venue in which to discuss your issue.

As for the driver, here is the correct Synaptics driver for your model and Windows 10.......

I have a Dell D620 Laptop, and I'm looking for a vertical scrolling driver. I have a synaptics driver now, but under settings it does not allow me to turn on vertical scrolling (nor is it even a visible as an option).

I've tried installing another synaptics driver a few times, but so far I've had no success.

This is my first time to the forum so I appreciate all and any help you can offer me.

Thanks!
-Dan

I'm using Vista Home Basic on a Compaq Presario laptop (refurbished) which I bought in Jan '08 (roughly). I have installed all updates (except Siverlight, whatever that is) provided by the automatic update facility.

Here's my problem: periodically the scroll function stops working. I think it happens most often after going to media-rich sites like MSNBC and watching a video.

It's not a "help me now or I'll shoot the computer" kind of thing, but it's very annoying. Any insights would be greatly appreciated.

I'm NOT very technically savy (more the intellectual type, which is to say dumb about computers) and otherwise, Vista is working quite well (after installing an additional 1.5 gigs of RAM). I'm very, very reluctant to do anything which might crash Vista, and we intellectual types have a very hard time figuring out that stuff.

So I recently got my T460s as a work machine and I love the device, except for the touchpad experience. Compared to my personal device, a Surface Pro 4, I am left very disappointed in this regard. Using two fingers to scroll is a nightmare. It often freezes mid-scroll, and immediately after scrolling the cursor would reappear, jump somewhere, and a click would be performed. Sometimes, this click would highlight text on the webpage, other times, this click would click on a favorite in the favorites bar and force me into another site. It just isnt a smooth scrolling experience. Something is definitely wrong here, and I just hope its not a hardware issue. I am running Windows 10, and I have all my drivers up-to-date, including the Synaptics driver. I tried going into the Synaptics settings and disabling the touchpoint like some have suggested, didnt work. I tried rebooting, didnt work. I tried disabling two-finger scrolling, rebooting, then re-enabling it, didnt work. I tried uninstalling the driver and re-installing it, didnt work. I dont know what else do to. Has anyone had any luck with this? UPDATE: I've isolated the issue to it happening only in Windows 10/Modern UI apps, including the Microsoft Edge browser. The mouse cursor disappears in these apps when scrolling and jumps around after scrolling has stopped. But this isnt the case in say File Explorer, Google Chrome, or Microsoft Word.

Hey all, I just got a new computer with windows 10 on it. It is a... HP N5Y05UA#ABA and I cannot get the scrolling option for the touchpad to stay enabled, every time the computer is rebooted or shut down, I must go back into the settings and re-enable it. Is there anything I can do to fix this? Removing the driver/trying to update it does not fix it either.

I have a acer aspire 5750g, I upgraded from windows 7 to windows 10 today and everything works fine, expect that the scrolling feature on the touch pad isn't working. Is there any fix to this?

Answer:Synaptics touchpad scrolling not working.

I'm dealing with the same thing. I chatted with acer tech support and they shluffed it off and said it's a windows problem not an acer issue. Does anyone out there have a solution?

since i've gotten my x201 i've been pretty happy with it. the only problem i've had with it is scrolling. on some applications such as itunes and AIM the program doesn't scroll. i've read a few entries saying that i have to modify the tp4table.dat file and it does work.my question is why is this necessary when other laptops don't need to do this. is this because synaptics drivers do not support scrolling in those applications yet? also how often does lenovo release new drivers to update support for more programs

Answer:scrolling problem with touchpad/trackpoint

Hello keviinf, modify the tp4table.dat file is the one way, updating the ultra nav drivers could help also. Please reboot your system after editing the tp4table.dat file.Otherwise it won´t work.I did some tweaks on my both systems too. Like enabling horizontal scrolling in Firefox.

After my kid played with some buttons on my new Surface Laptop, Sleep Mode now comes on anytime I do the two-finger scroll option with the touchpad. I looked in Power options under Control Panel, but don't see a way to fix this?? It doesn't do it if you slowly and gently scroll with two fingers, but if you do it with any speed or do where you "fling" the page up and down, it does. It also does it with the touch screen. Can touch screen and move page up down slowly, but try with any speed, and turns off into sleep mode. Help!

Hi! When our office laptops were upgraded, our company sold us our old laptops at depreciated cost. Mine was acting perfectly fine until a few weeks ago, when out IT removed my user profile and changed me over to admin. It now starts up with a BIOS lock (asks for a password, but that's fine since IT gave it to me, though I could do without the shrill beeping sound every time I open the laptop).

Anyway, the laptop works fine for a while after startup, but once I start running more programs and open a few tabs in IE or Forefox simultaneously, the cursor and trackpad start acting up. When I open a new page in IE, for example, the cursor automatically scrolls down to the bottom of the page and refuses to scroll back up when I try to do so (it sort of "snaps" back into place a the bottom of the page). The screen also starts to flicker like crazy when this happens. I also have difficulty selecting icons in the control panel because of the same issue. If the icon is arranged in the top array, I can select it but then a few sconds later the cursor moves down to the icon located at the bottom of the same column, so I end up opening the wrong folder etc. I have tried uninstalling the touchpad drivers and reinstalling, but the problem persists. The same problem exhibits even if I plug in a USB mouse.

I am running Windows XP Professional version 2002, SP 3. The laptop is a Toshiba Portege M500 with Intel Core2 CPU [email protected] 1.83 GHz, 0.99 GB RAM. I have Malwarebytes and... Read more
