Acer Aspire 5738g WiFi Problem Intel 5100 AGN

Question: Acer Aspire 5738g WiFi Problem Intel 5100 AGN

Hello everyone,

It is my first thread on this forum and I want to thank you because you indirectly help me so many times.

I just installed new bios 1.25 on my notebook because of usb issues. Everything works fine but suddenly my wifi device stops working on windows 7.
It is well installed, the connection under Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections is enabled, but It doesn't see any WiFi spot.

It is not a device hardware problem because it works under ubuntu.

I tried all the usual ways: reinstall drivers etc but nothing happens.

I don't want to reinstall my OS because I'll have too many settings to restore after.

Is there anyone experiencing the same problem? Anyone who fixed it?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Acer Aspire 5930g laptop with Intel 5100 WiFi adapter. Been testing Win 10 Tech Preview, switched off WiFi via built-in system switch and since than it completely disappeared from the laptop. Which means when I press WiFi button on the laptop there's no light, the adapter itself is missing from the system ? even in hidden devices. But all the other buttons (Bluetooth, browser) work well. I've tried switching back to Win7, running WinXP from LiveCD, various Linux distribs ? no result. Tried other adapters (all of them Intel), it didn't help. Actually the system found Intel WiFi/WiMAX, but only WiMAX drivers were installed. Tried flashing BIOS, also didn't help. Been advised to install native ACPI utility with hardware buttons drivers. While trying to find it I stumbled upon a software called Acer Drivers Update Utility. It's a third-party software which scans devices and proposes to download driver updates for them. For some money.Yet while scanning it found the card (at least, listed it among devices). When I was scanning the laptop was connected via LAN, and after scanning Windows notificated about installing some bridge and PCI drivers. The button was working, and so was the WiFi card. The next day, when I opened my laptop (as far as I remember, I didn't switch it off then), WiFi disappeared again. I've tried reinstalling the system and repeat the "magic" with Update Utilty, but failed. Of course, I've tried force-installing the driver... Read more

GianniDPC,

* Have you tried a System Restore to a point PRIOR to your current problems?

*Have you checked in Event Viewer?
Type eventvwr in search.
Go to the Windows Logs > application > in the left hand column note anything that relates to the problem.
Please note the event ID, and the source codes and tell us what they are.

*List all the Security software you have ever had installed & currently have now on your computer please.

* Browser addons can create problems.
Check how many you have on your various browsers. Is each & every one really needed?

* Go to search, type device manager and look for any yellow warning markers.

* Run a system file check to verify and repair your system files.
To do this type cmd in search, then right click to run as administrator, then
SFC /SCANNOW

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

* Check Disk.

Hi guys. First of all, i would like to say hello to everyone. And thankyou for reading my post. I feel bad for simply signing up here, just because i need a problem fixed. But this is really annoying me and i didn't know where else to go.
Second of all, i wasn't exactly sure where to place this post, so i am hoping here will be ok.
I'm interested in restoring my Acer Aspire 5738G to factory settings. (I've done it before and i never seemed to have a problem).

I know it should be simple to do this, by simply pressing "Alt" and "F10" at the Acer Splashpage when you bootup, and going to the acer eRecovery page. But when i do this i get the error message,

"HDD RECOVERY VALIDATION FAILED"

I've tried my hardest, searched all over google for a solution, but every problem seems to be different.. And i can't figure out what is particularly wrong with my computer.

I am only an amateur when it comes to computers, and disks, partitions, locating partitions, etc etc is not my strong suit.

Is there anyway i can check if the hidden partition "PQservice" is still in my drives?

If it helps in anyway, i though i might mention that the previous time i restored back to factory settings... When i completed it, i didn't fully complete the windows installation process, and now whenever i log into my computer, it mentions that my "windows is not yet genuine, click here to register it blah blah blah". I did... Read more

thats why the forum exists so don't feel bad

did you create the recover DVD/CDs at all - usually asked to do that when you first setup the machine

can you run the erecovery program from start>programs - probably under acer folder

have a look a disk manager and see if you can see the partition

control panel>administrative tools> computer manager > disk manager

Hello! I have a R500 Series ThinkPad with the Intel 5100 AGN WiFi adapter. The driver for the card has been updated as of today (September 7, 2010). I have a D-Link DIR 655 WiFi router (replacing an old Linksys 54g WiFi router). The firmware of the router has also been updated today. I'm running the router under the WPA-2 standard with AES cipher type, channel width of 40 Mhz on 802.11n mode only with auto channel scan (just as Intel is recommanding). I also followed Intel indications for the WiFi card. Problem is : the laptop just can't connect to the WiFi network...? I tried all sort of things, but to no avail. Can anyone help? Note that when I tried  to use the router under WPA with TKIP and AES as cipher type, the laptop was able to connect at the slow 54 Mbps rate. Thanks.

Recently, my Intel Wifi 5100 has stopped working on windows. For no appearant reason, Windows decided that my Wifi card is not good enough to be read. When i open my Device Manager, my Ethernet port shows up, but the Wifi card does not. The wierd part is that the Wifi card gets read in "Splashtop" which came on my laptop. I can use Wifi on the Linux bases OS, but not windows. I've tried installing all drivers, but Windows refuses to acknowledge the presence of my card. Any clue on how to fix this?

EDIT: Specs

Answer:Serious Intel Wifi 5100 problem

Hey, welcome to Vista Forums!
Assuming the wireless card is removable, you could try re-seating the wireless card, also, you could take the card out, and boot, then shut down, and put the card back in, then boot and see if it made any difference.

If it's not removable, check to make sure any wireless switches are turned on.

Please post back with what you have tried, or even if you managed to fix the problem and how!
Hope this helps,
Daniel

Welcome to the forum!

You'll need a modded BIOS in order to use that card in R500. Stock BIOS will not allow the machine to boot with it.

Ok I have a Asus G60VX thats less than a year old running windows 7. On Friday (three days ago) the system was working fine, I could connect to the internet and everything. Tonight when i turned on my laptop it showed that i couldn't connect to the internet. So i rebooted both my computer and router thinking it was my brother playing Xbox live. It still didn't work. So i tried the usual suspects: deleted the saved file and made a new one, went into the device manager and made sure there weren't any problems (there weren't), i even tried doing a system restore but to no avail. I tried the Fn combo on my keyboard and the switch on the front but this still didn't work. After three hours searching for a solution on my desktop (which can access the internet fine) I kinda want to take a sledge hammer to the thing. :) So at this point i'm begging for a solution! thanks!

Answer:Problem with Intel WiFi link 5100?

Hi.

Did you install any iTunes or Apple software before this happened?

For now, try resetting the network protocol tcp/ip stack. In an elevated command prompt, copy and paste this then hit enter:

Code:
netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt
Then do the same for this command:

Code:
netsh winsock reset
Reboot and test the connection. If still no good, go into Internet Explorer.

Tools | Internet Options | Connection | Lan Settings

and make sure there are no checked boxes. Then ok your way out a few times. Reopen IE and test.

If still no good, please respond about the Apple, iTunes software and/or do you have mdnsresponder.exe in the task manager?

My computer is running on Windows 7 Professional 32bit. It has worked fine for the last 2 years. But recently, my wifi card has started me giving me problems. It detects the wireless networks but connects to them only for around 10-15 minutes after which the connection is not even visible in the list. Then after 30-40 minutes, it can connect but the same problem is there.

Also, I tried to make my own ad-hoc connections and saved them. These connections do work and my friends are able to connect to it and the connection remained active for hours. I did it to check whether the Wifi card is working or not. It does work but only with the outgoing connections that are made by my computer. The networks that in range and are giving problem with my wifi card are working fine for my friends. So, I guess it is not the network's problem.

When I tried troubleshooting it, it gave the problem 'Problem with wireless adapter or access point'. I also tried installing all different driver versions and rollbacking to the default version for my wireless card but the same problem is there. Although in device manager, It says the device is working properly.

Please help me in solving this problem. Exact name of WiFi Card in Device Manager- Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN

The same complaints and problems with this 5100AGN adaptor has been around for a long time.

There are countless threads about this on the internet. It seems that disabling the 802.11n Only setting in the routers settings and running in mixed wireless mode can help. Updating the drivers can also help, try the Intel site. > Intel? Driver Update Utility

There are plenty of long threads about this ongoing problem with some possible solutions, so your not alone.

I am new here. I'm not even sure if this question is in the correct forum (I hope so). I have a Toshiba Satellite A305 laptop that I purchased a few months ago. In the last month, the wireless connection has been dropping like mad ! And more recently, when it drops, it says it can't find any wireless networks. I then have to perform a hard shut off (by holding the power button till it powers down) and wait a few minutes to turn it back on. I have uninstalled the wireless adapter and then reinstalled it and that didn't work either. Also, all the drivers are up to date. I am very frustrated at this point and don't know what to do. Any help that anyone can offer would be greatly appreciated !!

Thanks !!

Answer:Intel Wireless WiFi Link 5100 problem

It is always a VERY good idea to check the microfilters (if using ADSL) which are fitted into your phone sockets and make certain that you have microfilters in any socket in the house. Microfilters are very cheap to get hold of and its worth having a few spare.

I bought this laptop in September 2007, then all of a sudden it started giving trouble to power up.

The battery and the charger work perfectly in another Aspire 5100.

I have to really fiddle around with the adapter for the laptop to get AC power, and it wouldn't start up unless the charger is plug in.

Once i get AC power i could power on he laptop fine, remove the adapter from the laptop and it will operate off battery power fine, but it would not start up on battery power, even if the battery is fully charged.

Any help will be appreciated.

thanks.

My Acer aspire 5100 laptop (with VISTA Home) will start and I get the normal screen. But the mouse and keyboard do not work. Someone suggested using a PCMCIA/USB card to get it to work with an external USB keyboard and USB mouse. Do you think that will work? If not, any other suggestions on this problem? Thanks!

Answer:Acer Aspire 5100 Input Problem

1) You are saying that the laptop's built-in mouse (touchpad?) and keyboard don't work? (fyi, if applies in your case, some laptops have a switch near the touchpad that turns them on/off) Check your user documentation

2) If 1 above is true, then you certainly need at minimum an external mouse / keyboard to even just diagnose/try to fix your problem. However, you mention needing a PCMCIA/USB card.. Any reason for you to believe the USB ports on the laptop aren't working either?? Just try plugging a USB mouse into the laptop's USB port?

I am having an issue with the sound on my laptop. It will play videos and music, but at some point the sound just....freezes. It is like when a CD has a scratch and it plays the same two words over and over again. Most of the time the screen is not frozen and I can click to exit out or shut the computer down. The sound, however, does not stop when I shut it down or unplug it. It only stops when I remove the battery. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I have an Acer Aspire 5332 and this used to happen to me but when it used to happen I would open up task manager, go to processes and find explorer.exe, then I would click it click end process then go to the applications tab and click new task, then just type in explorer.exe this fixed it for me and it happened for a while but went away on it's own. Hope this helps you.

i slapped on vista ultimate 32, the intel 5100 will be in device manager without any problems.  the only for me to get the blue led to light up again is to do a uninstall in device manager and reboot.  vista will then detect new hardware and reintall the wifi all over again.  this does work but to do it every week suck.  i dont want to buy a new internal or external card either.  this happen to anyone else?

Answer:Y430 intel 5100, blue wifi led doesn't come on. Not fn + f5 problem either.

To clarify, the wireless works, but the blue LED doesn't and the fix you described only temporarily fixes it?  Have you installed all the other drivers as well; the ones located on the d:/ drive?

Then I wonder if Lenovo 3000 N500 4233 series supports N network with the following network card Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN.When I linked up with Rauter with N, so I got a speed of about 65 Mbps, but far away from thespeed of 100-130 Mbit/s +.I have spoken to Lenovo and received a reply to update drivers on all that goes too uppdate and see if it works. If I do not find them at Lenovo, I would go to Intel and Microsoft homepage to see if there were any new drivers.Slowly and soil, I made it and found newer drivers for the network card but to no avail.I spoke with Lenovo again and got the answer that it could not do more because the card was 65 Mbps, which is certain to N working. In other words, nothing is broken can not be repaired, even if it onlyperforms 1/4 of what it should be!I was still unhappy, I could go back to the medamarkt and return the machine.I wonder how somone can say something like that when intel WiFi Link 5100 AGNshall work up to 300 Mbps while It can't get more then 65 Mbits/s.For if I have 65 then I am on N linkage because the G only goes up to 54 Mbit/s.The most strange is that not only was the serier of Lenovo 3000 N500, having problems with Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGNnot performing as it should. The answer I got was to either leave or wait until someone will solve the problem (Lenovo,Intel or Microsoft).Plus I have age machinery that works good in 130 Mbits/s without problems while a new can not?Strange thinking about this.So what do you do?Someone who knows ... Help mee!! I have 2 problems...
I've just rebuilt an Acer Aspire 5100 with X1300 graphics and SATA hdd.
I've updated to the latest BIOS v3.13, reinstalled Windows XP Media Center edition and have all the drivers except for one "Unknown device" which may be the modem - the modem socket is cracked so would this explain why the device is "not found" by any driver software?

The second problem is XP stalls during boot-up after the Windows XP logo screen - it goes to a black screen and then hangs. I can only get XP booting to proceed by inserting an USB drive and then taking it out again! It's as though the laptop is waiting to test the USB ports before it can continue. Is this a software problem or a drive configuration problem - SATA HDD shows as "PM" (-?primary master) and the IDE DVD-RW drive as "SM" (-secondary master) on the configuration screen in BIOS, but as "S1" and "PM" on the Boot Order List in the BIOS. I just need this to boot reliably without having to stick in and take out a flash drive!!

Answer:XP Media Center Boot problem on Acer Aspire 5100

I have found the problem is the ENE card reader driver. If I don't install this, then Windows boots as normal. Uninstalling the drivers is not straightforward either - I'm having to do a System Restore each time to get things working....

Any ideas?

Hi Guys,
This is Viral. I am using an Acer laptop model ASPIRE 4736 since the last five years. There haven't been much issues with it. except for the battery and thats it. But recently, since last two weeks I noticed that my Wifi would stop blinking after sometime after I start my laptop and then it wouldn't work even when I try to turn on and turn off the Wifi switch(it doesn't respond anything). I tried searching the net for this issue using my office laptop and found that a system restore would help to solve this issue. Since I remembered that I updated Java as well as there was this ad software which got installed and I had unistalled it. So I did a system restore and then when I opened the device manager, I am not able to see intel r wifi link 5100 driver on it. I tried restarting my laptop and did everything and couldn't find the driver(it was there before the system restore). But later on the same day, the driver got installed automatically and the WiFi started working but only for a couple of minutes after the restart and then it stopped. So  I did the system restore again to the date when everything was working perfectly and when i did that, again my intel r wifi link 5100 driver is not shown on the device manager(network adapters). I don't if it would automatically get installed or not but its sure that the WiFi issue still be there. So can you please help with this issue?

I have a Sony Vaio with intel 5100 AGN wireless adapter & Vista OS.

The problem I have is that 9 times out of 10 it will not connect to my home or office wireless network. Eventually it does, though only after switching the adapter on and off several times or rebooting the machine. Sometimes I also have to restart the wireless router.

It will always seem to connect in that I get the connected icon in the notification area (though often without the internet globe symbol) though it will not connect to the net or to any other machine or printer on the network.

Some other useful info:
Both the home and office routers are the same model (Comtrend) and both work fine with other PC's

I often have bluetooth problems also - can take a while for bluetooth to start (I use a bluetooth mouse) and I have 3 unknown bluetooth peripheral devices in device manager

I have McAfee internet security installed

I have tried:
Disabling the firewall
Removing and readding the wireless and bluetooth devices
Disabling IPv6
Driver & OS update
A clean install

Nothing has resoved this issue which is becoming a pain as I can now spend up to half an hour each time trying to connect.

Any help is very much appreciated.

Answer:Wifi connectivity with intel 5100 AGN

Hi -

The Intel 5100 is one of the best wifi's available. I have one in this system and it performs flawlessly.

I think you'll find McAfee to be the problem here. I suggest that you remove it. Download the McAfee Removal Tool (MRT) to your desktop. RIGHT-click on the MRT icon, select "Run as Admin". When it finishes, re-boot.

MRT - http://download.mcafee.com/products/...tches/MCPR.exe

Then reset the Windows Firewall to its default settings -
START | type FirewallSettings.exe into the start search box | click on FirewallSettings.exe above | select the Advanced Tab | click on "Restore Defaults" | Click Apply, OK

Use AVG for a/v if you wish - http://free.avg.com/download-avg-ant...s-free-edition

Make sure that you have the most recent Intel 5100 wifi driver. Go to Intel's site -

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Prod...ProductID=3062

You can check your system manufacturer's site, but I have found they are ususlly 8-12 months behind.

Question: Acer Aspire 5100

Is anyone familiar with these Laptops? I have a potential trade for my PC for one of these. Only thing I'll probably be using it for is WoW and internet surfing. I'd like to run wow on medium graphics at 1024x768, but I don't have much experience with laptops and gaming. I'd like to hear some opinions about this.

Specs:

15.4" Screen

AMD Turion 64 x 2 CPU speed 1.6 GHz

2GB DDR2 667

120GB HD

ATI Radeon Express 1100 (integrated and shared 128mb, able to boost to 256 and more)

Answer:Acer Aspire 5100

Should be able to run WOW-esque games on medium settings, possibly higher. The integrated graphics are going to be a big bottleneck for you, though. And no, you can't upgrade them.

As far as Acer, I've never been a fan. Had too many break on me and come back with weird problems. They didn't seem to hold up well physically, either, although they ma have fixed that in the last year or so.

Hello,

New problem with my laptop
I accidently set up a password on my acer e-lock
more like I have forgotten my password and now all my drivers are locked
Is there anything I can do to access them or will I have to take it to a technician?
... and I accidently deleted my sound drive what can I do to fix that?
Sorry for the trouble I'm just not very good with computers.

Answer:Help! (again) Acer ASpire 5100

Hi

Likely need to chat with ACER support in your country as manual for that app does mention you need to take to a Acer Customer Service Center. I have an ACER laptop and that app was one of the first I deleted as the potential to lock yourself out was too easily done, just thinking aloud and iirc e-lock was run from boot, so get yourself StartupCPL and look for anything called elock in the startup lists and disable, "may" give you back use of the drives temporarily, but you would still need to speak to ACER as e-lock would not be working if disabled from startups.

As for sound drivers, how long ago did you accidently delete them? Was thinking a system restore back to before you deleted them may work, but easy option is to download and install them again from here http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5100.html (XP is Audio 5.10.0.5273 and Vista its Audio Realtek)

Question: Acer Aspire 5100

hi
I have a friends acer aspire 5100 that was getting stuck on the windows login screen.
So I used GPARTED and saw there were 3 partitions.
two were 50+ gigs and the 3rd was 4.11 gigs.
So I used GPPARTED to make one partition.
So I tried to format it but wouldn't see the drive. So I used GPARTED again and saaw that it wasn't allocated.
SoI then booted with GPARTED again and now have a bigger problem.
Now it boots with beeps,, one long and two short so is a vid prob now as the screen is black.

any suggestions on how/what program to use to get the drivers to install so I can see the screen?

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Acer Aspire 5100

You may have caused a little video probleme but your main probleme is that you completely screwed your boot partition.

Using partitionning tool like Partition Magic or Gparted to modify partition that have boot sector on it is not a great thing to do, you may damage some systeme file and crash your systeme.

The only solution i see is to try to back-up your file with another computer and reinstall Windows.

I have a W500 (i.e. product type 4058), with an Intel 5100 Wifi Link 5100 AGN adapter, running Vista 64 SP2 currently running 802.11G. I want to replace my current router with an "802.11N" but want to know whether my current laptop configuration will enable this change to wireless "N"..Can anyone advise me whether I can:        a) upgrade my router only (i.e. to N)....with the current laptop config ?        b) upgrade my router and upgrade this laptop hardware internally to "N" ?? (is this possible or cost prohibitive ?)        c) or is my only alternative to upgrade the router and purchase a Lan Adapter card for this laptop ??? (Note: I have suspicions that my laptop will NOT allow wireless "N" because after updating the 5100 adapter with the most current driver from Lenovo (i.e. 13.1.1.1, dated 1/13/2020), I find that this drivers' properties only provide wireless a, b, and g protocol choices for selection.....no "N" choice is available.) I am not sure whether this laptop's configuration is not capable of "N" or whether some driver and/or parameter is incorrectly set. Does anyone know for certain????(Incidentally, I have also updated this laptop with all required Microsoft Vista and Lenovo 64 bit SP2 drivers.).Thank you for your help.Regards,drc123

Answer:W500 w/Intel Wifi 5100 AGN compatible w/802.11n ?

Drc123, the Intel 5100 card does support 802.11n at both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, but isn't a very strong performer. For more info, see the following FAQ:I've seen websites that mention other Intel WiFi cards -- what about those cards? What is 802.11n WiFi, and why is it any better than the older 802.11b or g WiFi?I have an HP or Lenovo netbook -- can I swap a better WiFi card into it?BUYING AN 802.11N WIRELESS ROUTER - KNOW THE FOLLOWING OR SUFFERIf you're NOT able to use the Intel 5100 card to connect to an 802.11n router that's sitting next to you, then you probably have a driver issue. Howdy

I recently started an internship in Egypt about a week ago. When I first got here the wireless internet worked fine (albeit a bit slow) in my apartment and around the campus. However last thrusday the Wifi on my laptop quit working. I have a Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN that has Windows 7 RC on it right now. The adapter picks up the signal but when you try and connect it gives 'limited connectivity " = no internet. I tried using the Troubleshooter but when used it just says that The Diagonostic Policy service is not running and therefore it cannot fix the the problem. I was wondering if anyone had a solution to this problem.

Thanks

try this either set a hard coded dns

or hard code the ip if you know what your network ip address numbers are
that your access point uses

so say some thing like
this is very very common here

IP: 192.168.1. 100-150
SUBNET: 255.255.255.0
GATEWAY:192.168.1.1

and find a dsn server

dont use them numbers there just make sure that your using the right set for the network that your connecting too
i have the same card in my laptop and its a work horse and some

also is the network that your connecting too secure make sure you have your settings right

I Have a Intel (R) WiFi link 5100 AGN, and i was wondering why i am not receiving the draft (N) quality i'm supposed to get i currently own a Belkin N1 Wireless Router.., Please help me with my problem, i also dont have as good connect to my router even though m bro has b/g he gets greater speeds.

Bump, srry i need help, here are the settings.

Answer:Help/Question? Intel (R) WiFi link 5100 AGN

hello ebartolon...
it's still is but remember this is a free forum....
since airbot already gave you the lecture on the bumping threads im not going to go into that...
but what i can tell you to do in the throughput enhancement to turn it on...
also in wireless mode put it to 802.11n as i believe right now you are using 802.11g and not using the n spec...

also even in ideal situations you are not going to get the throughput specified in the n spec or advertised...
it says *up to* because that is the maximum speed that it will go and usually the hardware never reaches that speed....

I purchased a T400 (which I LOVE so far) but like a fool, didn't opt for the 5300 3x3 WiFi for $15 more... after some post purchase research, I'd much rather have the extra antennae's for picking up those barely in wifi signals around my house.   Does anyone know if the 5300 card can simply be plugged in to replace the 5100?  It all comes down to whether the 3 antennae's are installed on ALL models, with the connectors ununsed when a laptop comes with the 5100.  Anyone know the answer to this? Regards,-Owen

I've been having issues with my laptop and its wifi card for the past couple of months. It's an Intel WiFi Link 5100 and my internet just randomly stops working, other computers and devices still work fine, but on my computer I cannot browse the internet (however sometimes downloads don't stop for some reason). Updated my drivers, turning it off and on does nothing, and I'm pretty sure it's not my firewall but next time the internet stops working i'll make sure.

When I say it randomly stops working I mean I'll turn the computer on it will work for a bit then just stop then a little bit later it will work. No other computers or devices experience those kind of pulses here.

Hello, I'm trying to get wifi working on my x200, but nothing I try seems to work. Initially, in XP or Windows 7, the card wasnt even detected, so wouldn't come up in the unrecognized devices section in device manager.  I installed/uninstalled the drivers several times but nothing changed. I then opened up the Thinkpad and moved the wifi card from the first slot to the second.  Upon booting, in Windows 7 and again in xp, the card was recognised, but a code 10 error came up. I've tried replacing the wlan card with one from an R60, but the x200's boot software prevented the PC from booting up. Can anyon help? Thanks John

Answer:X200 and Intel Wifi Link 5100

Update to my first note.  After a day of installing countless drivers, bios updates and whatever else.  I'm pleased to say that my x200 is now woking in XP with wifi on the 5100. The PCI slot the 5100 card was in to start with did not register any device to be present.  The second slot, recognised the card but gave a code 10 error. I also followed the steps outlined in: kbartke's post on resolving the code 10 on 5100 issue.  That had no immediate effect, but may have eventually solved the problem. I also updated the bios to 3.02. The strange thing that seemed to work was changing the machine's name.  Once restarted, the wifi light came on. I now have to figure out how to get rid of all the bloatware i managed to install in my attempts to get this working... John

Hi I have a Sony Vaio VGN-FW11E Laptop with an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN.
On the front is a switch to turn of the Wireless adaptor & a little green light that goes out when you switch it off.
Normally when I turn on the computer it comes on automatically but sometimes it does not & when I look at Device manager it is missing. The only way I can fix it is to turn the computer off & on again. Sometimes I have to do this several times before it will work.
It also goes off by itself if the computer is left on for any length of time without being used.

any ideas ?

My W500 has a standard slot for such cards, but the W500 has a bios which checks cards against a whitelist and I cannot turn this completely useless check off.Any idea what I could do?2 weeks ago I started thinking about buying a new notebook after christmas. Now I wonder, whether the W530 suffers from the same problem. In the moment I am not sure, whether it makes any sense to buy another lenovo product, when it turns out, it could be crippled the same way as my W500. So does anybody know, whether the W530 suffers the same problem. A last question? What happens, when I plug a WLAN-Stick into USB? Must it also be authorized by lenovo and how do I find out, which products are authorized? Thanks in advance Thomas

Answer:W500 and Intel Wifi Link 5100

welcome to the community.

sorry for your troubles.
afaik, all ThinkPads of at least the last 5(?) or more generations have had a BIOS whitelist for mPCI/e WLAN / WWAN options. as i understand it, this is due to getting approvals from numerous "Communications" regulatory agencies around the world for the cards. unfortunately, i've never seen the whitelists published anywhere, so we normally go by the FRU #s included in hardware maintenance manuals when folks ask for advice on compatible cards.

re: the USB WLAN stick, you should have no issue similar to a whitelist block.

regards.

I NEED HELP! Hello, Is there anybody in there? I have an Acer Aspire 5100 and I can't get it to do SQUAT!
I'm getting this prompt:

missing file or corrupt. <windows root>\system32\hal.dll

What the heck does that MEAN? Can anyone help me and if you can are you willing to help me? Desperately seeking driver. :cry
I don't have start up discs because they didn't come with the computer when we bought it.

Answer:Acer Aspire 5100 *@%# software

Have you tried check disk?
# Open "My Computer" and right-click on the icon for the drive that is to be checked.
In the context menu that opens, choose "Properties".
Click the "Tools" tab at the top of the Properties window.
In the "Error-checking" section, click the button "Check now".
A box showing the options for running Chkdsk is then available
Normally a box will appear with options to "automatically repair"

This is the place for all your drivers.

Hi Folks - I'm a newby here. I have this 3yr old laptop that has frozen up a second time now. The keyboard and mouse are locked out once the thing starts and opens a browser page. The pointer sits in the middle of the page and wired or wireless mouse have zero effect, also, the main battery is not fried. I have tried tostart in safe or command mode and it will not recognize any key entries. Similarly pressing Fn + F6 or 7 do nothing. This same issue was fixed by a guy a few months ago and it was not via reformatting. I think it is a simple enough fix, I don't know what exactly he did tho. I believe it has something to do with lack of a video driver but maybe not. Anyway, any ideas greatly appreciated - cannot afford an new one.

I have an Acer Aspire 5100-3357 that was working fine with Windows Vista until I was on line and Windows downloaded some updates for Vista. Now my screen is PURPLE where it should be white. I thought I wiped Vista and put XP on it. Still purple. Wiped that and put Suse Linux and still purple. It is not the screen itself when the installs happen it is fine but once the operating system is complete it is...you guessed it purple. Should I blame Acer or Vista, I don't know but anyone have similar problems and PLEASE tell me how you fixed it?

Answer:Acer Aspire 5100-3357 P.O.S.

After you install the Operating System, you have to install the drivers for the laptop's motherboard. These drivers include video, sound, network and chipset.

Normally the video should be fine as far as color. Only video size is changed by adding drivers... Who knows why your screen goes purple. The LCD screen may be defective

My Acer Aspire 5100 Laptop decides to not boot up again for whatever reason I dont know. Anyways I've tried a few things, like:

1. Take out battery
2. Take out HDD
3. Take out Memories
4. Processor, etc. all that can be taken out

I've also taken the whole laptop apart and it still isn't coming up.

When i press the power button, it reads the CD Rom, the HDD light comes on but nothing on the screen.

I took out on of the memory the other day and it start up for a while.

Now its back to the same old, not booting up any at all. All the correct light are on, it reads all the cd drive and thats it.

Any help would be highly appreciated as I really need this laptop.

Answer:Acer Aspire 5100 Not Booting Up

take out HDD, CD-Rom and battery. plug a regular desktop monitor to your laptop and try turn it on, see what happend, may be your screen or something as well.
if no picture comes up in non of the 2 screens then take off 1 of your 2 memorys and try again... if nothing try the other memory.

if you STILL dont get picture in non of the 2 screens sorry but thats the end of whats worth doing to recover it, just plug your HDD to a desktop and get what ever info you needed :/

Several months ago, i was using my acer aspire 5100 laptop when the mouse suddenly stopped moving and the computer became unresponsive. When i restarted it it worked for about 30 seconds and the same thing happened. I've removed the operating system and initially, i was able to re-install it, only to find the same problem. I then wiped the hard drive using a boot CD and now it won't even boot from disk. Also, it froze when installing windows xp (I think this was the same issue as when it initially broke), and for a while it came up with a PXE-61 error which now no longer appears.
The laptop managed to run linux ubuntu for about a week no problem until the same error occurred.
any tips would be great

Thanks

Hi, I'm a newbie to this forum, and am hoping I can get some help.

Back near Christmas, my USB ports and built-in bison webcam suddenly died on me.
Anything that gets plugged into the USBs are not recognized, and the webcam isn't even being detected.

I've tried updating my drivers, getting chipsets, and switching to XP, none of which worked (the XP switch didn't last long)

I know that there has been some issues with Acer Orbicams, which I've encountered before, like having pictures in the My Pictures folder, which then causes the cam to not work.

Anyway, I'm just hoping to get some advice!
If not, there's always staples

Thanks in advance!

Hello,

I have an acer aspire 5100 that does not even boot. It crashes early and tries to reboot without success. None of the other booting modes work either, all crash early. I can go to the bios with f2 and something seems strange. In the boot priority order, I have:
1: IDE 0: TSHIBA MK6034GAX-(PM)
2: IDE 1: HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-T10N-(P
3: SATA:
4: PCI BEV: Realtek Boot Agent
5: USB HDD:
etc. usb all empty.

Shouldn't the hard drive be in SATA?
I don't know how to solve the problem. A boot disk maybe?
Thanks,
Serge.

Hi, I'm syscrash.........

I use an ACER Aspire 5100 laptop and few weeks ago it started turning off by itself........... Cleaned/cleared the fan...... still continued.

Then started getting this RTL 8139 (x)/8130/810X PCI Fast Ethernet Controller v2.13 (020326)
PXE-E61 Media test failure, check cable
PXE-MOF exiting PXE Rom flashing repeatedly on a dark screen.

It won't allow me to do a system restore...........??

I ran the back-up CD's yesterday.worked GREAT! most the day.....

Then it turned itself off again, came back on with the following message..

NTLDR Missing...........

After several attempts with ctrl+alt+del eventually it accepted my alt+F10, when I attempted a backup to factory setting I receieved this message

Restore Failed Oxf0000025 ...

Now all my acer will do is come on with dark screen saying NTLDR Missing.

Help please........... If anyone is willing to help me with this, I'm tremendouly greatful and appreciate yoru time, & effort.

cuz looks like i need lots of help with this, and don't even know what to do, or what I can download for it...??

Thank you very much,

sys-crash

Answer:ACER ASPIRE 5100 CRASHED! Help please

Welcome to MajorGeeks,

Please post the exact Error if you get it again "Restore Failed Oxf0000025 ..." is not it.

But try this again, remove the CD and any flash or external drive you might have plugged in prior to rebooting to get to the splash screen.

Turn the system on
Immediately, press ALT on the keyboard and start tapping F10.
Continue holding ALT and tapping F10 as the unit boots up.
A screen stating "Starting Acer Erecovery" should appear.
(Release ALT and stop tapping F10 at this point)
There will be 4 options:
1. Restore system to factory default
2. Restore system from user backup
3. Restore system from cd/dvd
4. ExitClick to expand...

First try option 1. if that fails; reboot and try 3. but wait for it to ask for the CD. I have a 5100 but haven't crashed, so not tested.

Did you go into F2 and change Boot order? Did you reformat the HD prior to this? What Operating System?

Re the pc turning itself off, after you get your Recovery sorted out, I would install Everest and check the temp. http://www.majorgeeks.com/EVEREST_Free_Edition_d4181.html you have some type of hardware problem I think. Your HD might not be set snug enough, fan going or half a dozen other things possible.

Also, if you get it running backup anything you want to something external ASAP.

Hi,

I believe the SIM card slot is in the battery bay.  Remove the battery to access.

That Intel 5100 is a wifi card, not a wwan card.  Do you also have a wwan card installed, or is that what you are asking about?

Information on both (SIM and wwan card installation) is in the hardware maintenance manual: Hardware Maintenance Manual - T400 & R400

I have an Intel WiFi Link 5100 AGN and it keeps crashing my laptop. I would be working and my screen would freeze randomly and my computer would remain unresponsive. This only happens when I turn on my laptop's wireless card and put it to use.

I tried multiple drivers but the newer ones froze my computer faster. I recently did a fresh install of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit and it still does the same.

Uninstalling the driver and rebooting while letting Windows install a default driver yields the same results.

Much help needed!

Just joined this forum after several Google searches yielded no helpful results. Anyway, I have a 2007 Acer Aspire 5100 (it's running Windows Vista Home 64-bit, if that makes any difference; and yeah, I know - old laptop is old) which, over the past several months, has developed a peculiar "quirk" which has gotten progressively worse. Basically, when I turn it on and it starts booting, it will "forget" that the AC power supply is plugged in and then switch to battery power. Once it does this, there's no way to make it "remember" that it's plugged in (disconnecting the cord and then reconnecting it doesn't work, and neither does anything else I've been able to think of), and when it's running on battery power, it dies within a couple of minutes (because the battery is as old as the computer is). The only solution is to shut the computer down by hitting the power button, and then power it back on again and keep doing this until eventually, it makes it through the boot sequence without issues. I've never encountered this issue beyond a certain step. It only occurs during the boot sequence - never when I'm fully logged in and actually using the computer. Basically, this means that once I've made it past a certain step, I'm safe - until the next time I have to boot. Also, because the issue only occurs during the boot sequence, I don't believe the power supply is the source of the problem (although, if your experience says differently, please speak up).&nbs... My laptop, and Acer Aspire 5100 has always had a lousy internet connection, and I've just dealt with it until yesterday.

First off, some recent background- Two days ago I upgraded the RAM in my laptop from 1gig to 4gigs, and I had an internet connection, albeit a lousy one. It wasn't until yesterday morning that after we had the Verizon FiOS network set up that my computer started having worse issues.

It would repeatedly connect and dsiconnect at very short intervals. It would allow me to click maybe three links and last a total of 20 seconds before it shut off and restarted again. Every other computer in the house had (and has) a perfectly good wireless connection.

After messing around with it for a bit, I ended up shoving all of my important data onto a USB flash drive like Noah's Ark and just flattened the whole system. After I reinstalled Vista, the problem was still there.

I browsed the internet for a bit (in those short bursts in which I could) and became fairly certain that the problem was an out of date network adapter driver. And so I downloaded and installed one for the Atheros AR5007EG (My network adapter). After I installed it, my laptop didn't event recognize the network card anymore. It won't even show up on Device Manager. It asked that I "install driver software for my ethernet controller".

And that's where I am right now. I'm using another computer to type this post with the one with the bum internet connectio... Read more

I have an Acer Aspire 5100 that until this morning will not boot up. Answer:acer aspire 5100 Audio problems.

Go into the Control Panel and look at the settings in Sound/Audio Controllers (or whatever it's called in Vista). Make sure that it lists the correct device in the Hardware section, and make sure that everything is turned up and that nothing is muted. Most laptops also have hotkeys and/or quick-launch keys for turning the volume up or down and for muting; be sure none of those have been turned all the way down or muted. Lastly, you can try a system restore to 2 or 3 days ago and see if that solves the problem.

Bios flashes are to fix specific problems and they should never be performed on a faulty computer,if it goes bad mid flash the computer will be bricked permanently and I can almost guarantee its not the bios causing the screen to be black, also you cannot flash the bios without a working display.

If you would like help troubleshooting we'll need some more info about the problem-

First remove all add in cards, network card, hard drive, external drives, use one stick of memory in slot 0 then switch to another stick after a few boot attempts if you have one,if the cmos battery is accessible without disassembly remove it for 20 seconds while the AC and battery are removed then replace the cmos battery, until you get the display working leave it in this configuration for troubleshooting.

Do you ever see anything on the screen or is permanently blac... Read more

There are no areas which are lighter or darker than anywhere else, there is no flickering from the backlight and no lines etc. Can anyone tell me, is the trouble possibly caused by a fading backlight or the backlight inverter? The screen comes up immediately and is very evenly illuminated, but difficult to see in bright light. Thanks for any advice.

Answer:Dark screen Acer Aspire 5100

looks like the back light is on its way out either that or the inverter

This is my first post here, so I hope I'm in the right place!
I have an Acer Aspire 5100 notebook and I'm having trouble connecting to my home network.
My wireless internet was working fine until Saturday night, when I couldn't get internet access.
When I go to Network Diagnostics, I get a message that says "This computer does not have a wireless adapter installed and configured."
Under Network Connections, the Local Area Connection says "Network Cable Unplugged."
Also, the Wireless LAN communication indicator in the front won't light up, and it shows a message on the screen saying "No Wireless Device."
However, my computer is the only one that can't get internet access--the other laptops with wireless internet in the house are getting internet fine.
How can there be a cable unplugged if all the other computers are getting wireless internet?
Thanks for the help!

Answer:Can't get internet access on Acer Aspire 5100

Are you running Vista or XP on that laptop. In any case do this..

vista click on the circle
click on run
type: devmgmt.msc

xp click on the flag (start)
click on run
type: devmgmt.msc

scroll down the list for Network Adapters
click on the [+] to expand the tree
click on the wireless driver
then right click on the wireless driver
click on uninstall

Before you do anything you should have the lastest wireless driver for your laptop from Acer support site for the 5100. Download that now, then click on uninstall the driver. Reboot the PC and login back

Install the new driver and you should be okay now.. If it doesn't work then their could be an issues with the onboard wireless driver..

Hi,
My desktop's motherboard crashed, now I need to get my Acer Aspire 5100 back to working. I originally burned the recovery disc, but apparently it did not burn correctly. I need to restore my computer to factory settings, currently it is a blank slate with absolutely nothing on it. I contacted Acer and they no longer have the recovery cd's available. Can someone please tell me where I can download the recovery disc, or order it in the united states. I found a website, but it is in the U.K. and I am in a real hurry to have this. I'm sorry if this is a repeat question, I am not computer savvy at all and was confused with some of the solutions to similar requests. Thank you.

Hi Guys ! My Windows Vista Aspire 5100 is not booting anymore. It started about 3 months ago, now it is worst. When I turn the laptop on, after couple beeps, i receive the following error:

Press <F1> to resume, <F2> to setup

Pressing F1 and starting normally windows does not load(no green bars passing by) and doing Startup repair the bar freezes at random places whenever I try that. In the beginning after turning on the system 2 to 3 times the problem goes away. Now i have tried many times it doesn't work. I tried BIOS default settings, boot from network disable, change the boot order, still the same problem.

I was given this laptop a year ago, so i don't know when it was bought( I am guessing 2007). My processor is AMD Turion 64 x2 mobile technology TL-50. I don't know my current windows pack version but I know I have the latest windows vista update.
I only have this laptop so thanks for any help you can provide.

Try removing the Wireless card from the computer How to Replace a Wireless Adapter on an Acer Aspire 5100-3949 | eHow.com
If that works, try attaching it again, as maybe the antennae got disconnected. If not, it will need to be replaced.

i've searched through many of threads here, and nothing has seemed to be working.

my friend had put my mac os x disk into the laptop and installed bootcamp. in doing that, it completely wiped my sound driver (i think. the icon at the bottom has a speaker with a red x on it and says 'no audio output device is installed'.) i've tried to install and uninstall all the sound drivers, but nothing works.

any suggestions? also, he tried just reinstalling windows, so now i have windows vista installed twice on the same partition, both without sound. is there a way to remove that as well?

thank you.

I'm a bit confused.... you have Vista installed, and no audio? If so, try this driver for Vista.... as to the 2nd installation of Vista, I'm not an expert with Vista, but IMO it would be easiest (and probably a good idea to be sure everything is "normal") to simply format the entire drive and be sure it's just one partition and then install Vista clean on the newly formatted partition....

I'm no computer genius, but I knew that having unused programmes on my laptop can't be helping my running speed etc, so in a bid to be quicker I decided to have a clean up.
I went into my add/remove programmes and got rid of a few things...

- MSN messenger
- Adobe Photoshop
- And a few other things I deemed unnecessary.

After that I had no sound. I tired a system restore, nothing, and I've been on the acer website and downloaded the audio driver, still nothing.
I'm running XP, as I tried vista and my laptop didn't take to kindly to this upgrade.

So any help would be very much appreciated. I'm not a major rush, so if it take a week or so of process of elimination I honestly don't mind, its just terrible sat with a silent laptop.

Thanks a lot, Eleanor.

Answer:No sound on Acer Aspire 5100 series

No sound?

Are you sure you installed the correct audio driver ?
I use, a free program from 'Drivereasy.com' It will scan yout PC and get the right drivers for you. But its a good move to uninstall the old one in 'Device Manager' first
Any chance you have just muted the speakers ? ( left click on the speaker in the taskbar and push the marker up to about 15).

Hey guys, first time poster here.

I am working on an Acer Aspire 5100 laptop and I am upgrading the RAM. The official specs say it can support up to 4GB of DDR2 RAM and it is running XP MCE which also supports up to 4GB of RAM.

The BIOS indicated it reads all 4GB but when i enter the OS, the computer properties and dxdiag both indicate it read 3GB instead of 4GB.

So... normally I would just consider that the manufacturer limited the amount of ram the motherboard supports but the official specs page on Acer says it can go up to 4GB like I said before.

So, any ideas on why it is limiting the RAM or how I can possibly fix/get around it?

Thanks in advance for any help or insight you guys can offer.

We just upgraded our Acer Aspire 5100 from Windows Vista to Windows 7. It works beautifully except the directional/scroll button of the touchpad no longer works. The touch pad itself works fine.

According to the Acer Web site, this laptop can't be upgraded to Windows 7. They obviously don't account for the fact that some people make their own hardware upgrades within the laptop, like memory and hard drive size. But as a result, they don't make a Windows 7 version of the synaptics pointing device driver.

The lack of the scroll button is a minor annoyance but does anyone have suggestions that might help?

Answer:Windows 7 drivers for Acer Aspire 5100

Hi

I was hoping looking over the driver lists for XP and Vista for that Notebook that it would mention the toucpad driver say "Synaptics" but sadly doesnt, you may well be out of luck if the toucpad driver is a built in one from ACER, so its actually listed as Synaptics?

If so then try the correct ones for your install of Windows 7 HERE (saying corect ones as I dont know if you using 32bit or 64bit Win7)

*on the fact that you may not have updates, well that sadly is a fact of technology, its not like you'll get a 486 PC running Windows 7, tech moves fast and past a year or so most becomes old and if its past a cut off point then many a time drivers are not supplied from the OEMs liek ACER, HP, DELL etc for hardware, ram and HDDs are not governed by these restrictions as the drivers are mostly built into Windows, its the items like Audio, Touchpads etc that are.

Hello Acer users,my mother has an Acer Aspire 5100 and is happy with it so far. I installed an SSD disk drive and Windows 8.1 64-bit to it (fresh). Now she is very happy as the machine is very fast. Allthough there are new problems that came with the installation and I'm not happy with them. They are the following (all driver related issues I guess, no drivers in Windows update or on Acer site): 1 - Memory card reader is not functioning at all and does not show up in explorer. Device manager shows 3x problem devices wich are all together the memory card reader. Wich brand is this?2 - WIFI is not working (says network adapter), have not yet tried to download and install drivers from the Atheros website, will try this next time I visit her. Device manager shows 1x problem device wich I guess is the WIFI because the machine can access internet by the wired adapter. 3 - Display is set fixed (can not be changed) to a resolution of 1024x768 and it can do better, but can not be changed. Downloaded and installed Catalys control center, but this has changed very much and I can not see any place to change resolution from there. Only multiple displays etc.4 - Display adapter shows in device manager to be 200M and it should be Ati Radeon Xpress 1100? But other than these problems, Windows 8.1 64-bit is running nice and specially with the SSD being very fast. And can recommend to all of you =) Nice if you can assist me on this matter. I gu... Read more

Answer:Acer Aspire 5100 Windows 8.1 (64-bit) problems

---CUT---Forgot to mention, that quite often the computer gives an error msg when rebooting computer this seems to only happen on reboot not on normal shutdown. No other symptoms or problems on this, only that it takes a few seconds longer when Windows writes memory to disk etc.---CUT--- This is now solved and the reason was the old Conexant modem driver wich was from year 2006, could not find a newer one so I just simply disabled the modem from the device manager. Then the error message (wich was: System_thread_exception_not_handled(CAX_CNXT.sys)) did not show up anymore and the computer reboots nicely =) So no more error messages for Acer Aspire 5100. WIFI: I did another search in the Microsoft Update Catalog with AR5005G, sorted the drivers by date, picked the newest Win 8.1 driver and bang, the WIFI device installed nicely and found WIFI networks, but can not log in to one and reboots computer, so no go... *****The only two remaining things are the memory card reader (ENE) and WIFI (Atheros), both devices are now installed correctly and show up as normal in the device manager and both show life signs, but do not stand long but both reboot the computer when put in to real use. So if someone gets these working please continue this thread, but I guess there just isn't a correct driver for these two that would work and would be official. I'd expect the ENE card reader to get one, but the WIFI might be just listed as not Win... Read more

My daughter has an Acer Aspire 5100 Laptop computer. She was having problems with it and had someone reinstall the software. They didn't install it through the E-recovery. They installed an illegal copy of windows and now she cant update or download anything. I want to install the correct version of windows through e-recovery but I can't find it on the computer. What can I do to fix this problem? I have already tried the Alt - F10 trick and that doesn't work. Please help.

Hey Billy, sounds to me like whoever worked on your computer didnt activate windows with the OEM key on the laptop, check your activation. Windows tends to quit working if it isnt activated after a certain peroid of time =)

I have an Acer Aspire 5100-3583 laptop and it is driving me crazy! The touchpad and keyboard does not work. After numerous reboots, still nothing. External mouse and keyboard, no help. On occasion it starts working, but then next reboot back to inop again. What is a permanent fix for this problem? I did a search online and found other Aspire 5100-3583 owners having the same issue. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. By the way, I know about pressing the fn+f7 button to get the touchpad working but unfortunately the keyboard does not work. LOL I can't do anything GRRRRRRRRR :cryconfused

Unfortunately, I think this is a controller problem with the motherboard in the laptop. I don't think any drivers or software will fix it Contact Acer about a possible warranty replacement, or check their site to see if it's a known issue and if a recall has been issued.

so i have an acer aspire 5100 laptop that i bought(without doing enough research)
thinking that its somethign i can fix.
after 2 days of reading endess posts about ACER=no video i feel like theres very slim chances of fixing it myself.
the problem:
apparently a very, very common problem with acer laptops regardless of model
you push the power button
fan turns on power light turns on
green light next to power button turns on and then off
and nothing
LCD screen doesnt even flicker

but it boots up randomly and rarely with no problems
some people had luck with different stuff

heres what i tried to do so far
connect it to external monitor
pull the acessories out one by one
ram bank2 ( and swaped them around)
cdrom,wireless card,hard drive,battery, keyboard,disconnect lcd harness from MB
took the bios battery out and tried to boot up and put it back in tried to boot up
hold the power button down etc.

no canges.

what i found is theres a way to load up the bios from flash card on aspire one

so i pressed the ALT+Esc and power on the acess light turned solid and didnt do anything.
since i couldnt see anything on the screen i couldnt follow thru.

finally i started looking online for a replacement motherboard and was kinda disappointed.
how can a part of something cost more than the whole thing? its fkn amazing magic of the retail world

the complete brand new PC of same model costs less than the motherboard alone.

so that is not a route im p... Read more

could be that this guy is handy with a soldering iron and that somewhere on the mobo there is a trailing power connection, dont pay to get this fixed IMO because it probably would just happen again.

personally i can replace power input sockets with my iron and thats it lol but a faulty motherboard is the only thing i can think off.

stay away from acers tbh, nothing but trouble and cheaply made

I have problems getting online using my T00 after installing windows 7. The rest of the computers in my network will be affected if my T400 is online. I saw the version for my intel wifi link 5100 to be of version 12+ but i understand that the latest driver is version 13. I downloaded the latest firmware from the internet and intel website but after updating/reinstalling, the driver is still version 12+. I really need to update the driver as I need to access my wireless network desperately and my T400 cannot allow me to do that. Any ideas?
