Problems With Using Dual Monitors.

Question: Problems With Using Dual Monitors.

Hi guys,

First of all, I didn't really know where to put this, so my apologies if I did anything wrong.

I recently found a second monitor just lying around and decided to hook it up to my laptop. It worked fine for about a week but now, after maybe 30 minutes of use the problem occurs;

First of all, both my screens go completely black and the windows error sound plays. After a few seconds my main monitor comes on again and the seconds displays 'No Signal'.
Around 10-20 seconds later, the seconds monitor comes on again, but all the windows have been moved onto my main monitor.
I really don't know what else to say, I'm unsure what the problem is.

Anyway, thanks for any help.

Preferred Solution: Problems With Using Dual Monitors.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Problems With Using Dual Monitors.

Check your power settings, some laptops on battery power will disable a second monitor automatically. Also, did you try clicking type mobility center in the search programs and files, and choosing the monitor mode you want under display? You can also press the Windows Key + P to open Display Switch.

You can also check your settings against this tutorial here, and see related tutorials there as well:

Having just upgraded from XP using the Nvidia dual monitor desktops for years, I was surprised to find Windows 7 has this feature in-built with the added bonus of slideshow desktop images C00L!
So beyond Win7 eye candy which is better, Does it come down to games running faster under the Nvidia dual desktops, what is the general preference here?

Answer:Is Nvidia dual monitors a poor cousin to Windows 7 dual monitors?..

afaik, there is no real performance difference, as all stuff is handled by the nvidia driver anyway.

And of course the more monitors the higher performance hit as there is more screen surface to work on (the same as increasing resolution).

Btw, the main pityfall of the multiple monitors is that the taskbar is only in the primary monitor, but there are a ton of good third party programs that can handle this, like Actual Multiple Monitors.

I am trying to set up dual monitors on a Dell opteplex 755. and I have a multi monitor card Dell / ATI Radeon X300 128MB PCI-e Graphics Card - 102A2590401installed. When I go to "Display" "Settiings" there is no "Identify Hardware" tab. all is shows is a single monitor, with no options. Both monitors a working fine, but only in unision.

Answer:Dual monitors problems

You should be able to run software from Dell/ATI to set up both monitors; it should have come with your system. If not, go to www.dell.support.com and download it for your particular card. Once that is done and run, make sure and go to Display in Control Panel and ensure that they are placed the way you have them, 1 & 2 or 2 & 1.

I have AIM and when I open a window or recieve an IM it shows up in my primary monitor I drag it to my secondary monitor thou but I was wonderin if there was away to recive IM;s from my second monitor.

Answer:Dual Monitors Problems

A window should reopen in the same spot you closed it. By default any program will open a new window (one it's never opened before) on the primary monitor (hence why it's the primary monitor). If it's not opening on the secondary monitor upon reopening (after having closed it on the secondary monitor) it's because AIM themselves have done something stupid to prevent such functionality.

If you want some help with dual display issues or an app that can help with things like this you should check out ultramon you can find it at www.realtimesoft.com. It's the best dual display app I've ever found and I use it myself all the time.

Answer:Problems with Dual Monitors

When i was running dual monitors the graphics card had 2 ports. The problem with this is that you can only use either the graphics card, or the onboard graphics card. You can't use both at once. Atleast this is what I learned. There could be a way, but never found one.

So I decided to try dual monitors, but I'm having a few problems:

1. How do I add my icons to the first monitor while still keeping them on the second? I tried copy/paste, but it doesn't support icons with the same name.

2. I downloaded Ultramon, and it let me add another taskbar, but not the start menu, the icons next to it, and the clock and the icons next to it.

3. How do I make it so games won't minimize when I use the other monitor?

Oh yea, Ultramon only has a 30 day trial period. Is there anyway to do this without it, or are there any other programs?

My problem is that when i am playing media ie music, video etc. i get distorted sound when i open, close, maximize, move any window on the monitor that is on the ati rage card. I remove the card and the sound distortion goes away. I have moved the monitors around, i have updated drivers for EVERYthing in this mess. I have an ECS mobo k7s5a with sis7012 integrated sound. cannot find ANY references for this type of problem. The only thing i haven't done is tried another pci card to replace the ATI. I just installed Vista Business and get the same exact image on both of my monitors. How do I change it so that the displays are independent? Do I need to download the ATI drivers instead of using the ones built into Vista? Thanks in advance. So far, Vista looks pretty slick.

Answer:Problems with dual monitors in Vista...

I'm not on my Vista machine right now, and I can't remember the exact vernacular but it's in Display Properties. Highlight your secondary display, and then select the option to "stretch" (or something like that) the desktop onto the secondary display.

Ok, this problem is getting really annoying and I think its a problem with windows 7 itself and not my computer.

Basically I have a dual monitor setup with the left hand monitor as my secondary and right hand monitor as my primary.  Whenever I have an application with any graphics on it at all such as a progress bar on my left hand monitor moving windows around becomes laggy and juddery, yet this doesn't happen when the graphical app is on my primary monitor!

Hey all!

So my PC decided to upgrade to Windows 10 while I was at work, even though I was sure I had turned it off! The only real problem with this is my desktop wallpaper! In Windows 7 I had the same image on both monitors, and the image would rotate every minute. So far, I have been unsuccessful in replicating this, and after searching through some forums and doing some googling I haven't been able to find anyone who has solved this problem! Is it not possible on Windows 10? All of the wallpaper settings are so bad, and SPAN is the only setting that looks even remotely good... And it's horrible...

Hello,

As the title states, I'm having some issues with having all three devices connected to my video at the same time. My card has a vga, dvi, and s-video slot. I have a lcd monitor connected to the vga connector, a crt monitor connected to the dvi port through a dvi to vga adapter, and I just recently bought an s-video cord to hook up to my tv which also takes s-video.

It seems that I can't have all three connected at the same time because when I restarted so that the tv could be detected, my system kept making weird noises and displaying some message on a black screen before windows loaded, but I couldn't see what it said since the comp. restarts before I can read it. As soon as I unplugged the s-video cable the comp. started up normally. I think I read somewhere that nvidia cards can only have two displays active at once, but my main question is: Is there a way to switch between using my lcd and crt monitor and using my lcd and tv without screwing up settings?

Sorry for rambling and the long explanation, any advice or sources of advices would be much appreciated!

P.S. another side issue I had was that when I got the display working on the tv, the tv would not show the entire window, like part of it was cut off from the top, i tried messing with the resolutions but it didn't work, is there any way to make it so that a window will maximize properly on the tv.

Hi There everyone!

This is a new build. Please check the spec's for this machine.

My default OS is Win 7 Ultimate 64 Bit. When I am using this OS all Is good with my monitors. My left screen is my primary screen and has the start button and all my short-cut icons on it which is the way I would like it to be in all three Os'. I can open many panes and move them back and forth to any screen I want.

When I restart the system to enter into Win Vista Home premium My Right screen is the primary screen and I cannot move any panes into the left screen and i cannot move the cursor into the left screen.

When I open the device manager in this OS there are no problems showing in either the display adapters or the monitor criteria.

I have tried correcting the problem in both the windows control panel in displays and also in the Nvidia control panel and I can't seem to solve this problem.
What do i need to do to get my left monitor to be my primary screen and to move window panes from left to right and vice versa.

Not sure but I think this is a driver issue.

Thank you for your help.

Answer:Problems With Dual-Monitors in a Multi-Boot System

Hi ranger, welcome to VF, it is a bit of a problem, I assume you've updated your drivers from Nvidia's site? I've not come across a problem like this for a while, but it does sound like Nvidia's drivers at fault, have you tried switching the dvi ports around, might fix it, and have you also tried reverting back to WDDM drivers and see if it is Nvidia's fault? I often find also that when you try and adjust a setting on nvidia control panel, you need to set the resolution to low to get results, however that may just be me :-)

I am having a nagging problem with getting the 2nd monitor in my dual monitor setup to start properly when doing a Windows restart (only). The appearance is blue and very faded. It looks like a CRT where the red and green guns are not working. I can faintly see the information being displayed but it's hard to view. This problem does not happen when I do a complete turnoff and boot my computer fresh as everything works perfectly.

What happens differently during a restart vs a fresh start?

I am using a GeForce2 MX/MX400 NVidia compatable video card from gainwardusa.com and am running Windows XP Pro with SP2.

I have contacted gainwardusa and have been sent several different drivers in an attempt to solve my problem but thus far, I have been unable to care for this issue.

One other point......when the pc recovers from standby or hibernation, everything comes back working properly.

Does anyone have any ideas?

HI. I have a Samsung HD monitor and a VGA SuncMaster Samsung monitor. The HD monitor is what I use on my desktop all the time. I am wanting to have dual monitors to use on occasion and use both these at the same time with a mirror image. The graphic card ATI Radeon HD 5450 has a place for my HD and VGA slots. Win 7 recognizes both monitors, BUT my HD monitors resolution is not HD anymore but the VGA monitor is good.

How do I get the settings to be the same as it is on my HD monitor and then display the mirror image to the VGA monitor????

Thanks so much, Tammy

Answer:ATI Radeon HD 5450 Dual Monitors HDMI & VGA Resolution Problems

Are you sure what you want is to DUPLICATE the contents of both monitors (referred to as "clone mode")? You want to show the identical desktop content on both monitors identically and simultaneously?

Or do you want to EXTEND the Windows desktop to run horizontally across both monitors, so that your Windows desktop is pretty much "double wide"? This allows you to drag windows onto one or the other monitor, and open up independent program windows on either monitor to meet your needs (e.g. to look at two open program windows independently presented on each of your monitors).

If you run the dual-monitor setup in EXTEND mode (with one of the monitors called "primary" monitor for Windows and the other monitor known as the "extend/secondary" monitor) then each monitor can be configured to run at its own native/optimal resolution, independent of what the other is configured at. So if you have a CRT (typically 4:3 or so) it can run at say 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 or 1440x900 or something like that, while your flatscreen/TV (typically 16x9 or 16x10) can run at say 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 or 1680x1050 or something like that. So you'd get FULL use of both monitors at their native/optimal resolutions, and maximum width of the effective combined Windows desktop.

If instead you do really want to run the two monitors in "clone mode", then you only have a Windows desktop that is the smaller of the two monitors. And you will be running the... Read more

I recently updated my nVidia drivers to the latest and also my SiSandra Lite software (for quick access to accurate specs of my PC). After updating SiSandra Lite, I looked at the GPU section. As usual it loaded the primary monitor first where everything was fine. I then changed to look at my secondary and my primary monitor turned off and my desktop was shifted to my second.

Now when I boot my computer, my primary comes on, but after the pre and post bios. Only when Grub comes on does something appear on my primary monitor, but it's very low resolution (compared to what it used to be). The windows 7 loading bar appears on my primary but before the logo can appear and glow, it swaps to my secondary monitor where it stays.

Windows 7 cannot detect my primary monitor trying both screen resolution detection and it's missing from the devices menu. Really confused about this whole business

I realise this may have been posted as a problem before. I did find little snippets of information about it but nothing sufficient.

Any help or redirecting to places where this problem has been solved would be much appreciated

Thanks

Ben

Hi,My setup includes dual monitors with a T61 in port replicator  and a Dell 24" monitor positioned above.  While I can achieve this setup by manually dragging the external monitor above the laptop each time I dock, I cannot get the Presentation Director to capture this position accurately.  It will capture the setup, but reverts to horizontal monitors with left/right mouse whenever the captured profile is used.   [With my old T43 in the same setup, I was able to get the monitor positions memorized correctly. ] Does anyone have a solution?  I've checked the Control Panel--> Display settings and the NVIDIA Control panel.  The control panel allows me to set up the external monitor as per above, but I haven't found any control to ensure the settings "stick".

Answer:Dual Monitors / Cannot capture vertical monitors (mouse up /down vs left /right)

Additional Note:  I've also tried creating a new profile in the Presentation Director with the selection for "External Monitor positioned above laptop", but that does not work as it will not recognize the external monitor resolution of 1900x1280, and thus will not allow me to finish the profile.

I have an ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 9600 video card. It's been working properly for quite awhile and now suddenly the cursor moves to the second monitor when I drag the cursor beyond the bottom of the first monitor.

It used to go from one monitor to the other by dragging it from left-to-right. I can't figure out what caused it to start doing this or how to go about getting it back to the way it was before. Any ideas how to change it back. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you!

Hi! I just upgraded to Win8 this weekend and so far I really like it. I discovered something this morning that now that the weekend is over is bugging the crap out of me and I need help. I work from home and use this alot so it would be helpful.

I am trying to do a couple things I could easily do in 7,
- have Chrome open in both monitors at once with different things on them.
- currently Chrome has no minimize/maximize buttons on the upper right like it used to. Makes it very hard to multitask.

I have 2 monitors, the main is a 23" touch screen and the second is an 18" non-touch screen.

Also, is there a way to have the taskbar to appear at the bottom always like it used to?

Thanks! I really appreciate the help!

Answer:Windows 8 Dual Monitors, need help having browser open in both monitors

Answered my own question. Google Chrome was showing in App mode. When I downloaded Chrome for 8 there is an option to have it show in desktop mode and the taskbar, minimize/maximize, and multi window option came back. YAY.

Now if someone could tell me why windows 8 won't fill the screen at the resolution recommended for my 23" monitor I'd be good!

So I just ordered an 8800gts to replace my 7800gts in Vista x64. I was wondering if keeping it and running my secondary monitor off of it would alleviate the stress aero puts on the video card when running dual monitors and gaming and increase my performance. Would I be better off keeping the 7800gts for the second monitor? Is this even possible?

Answer:Dual Video cards, dual monitors, and Vista game performance

It is certainly possible, you can use both cards at the same time, assuming your mob supports it.

I doubt if you'll see a huge increase in gaming performance, as aero essentially shuts itself off when needed (gaming), but it won't hurt anything either.

what i can't find is how to use 2 monitors with 2 cards. do i remove the crossfirex bridges and connect one monitor per card, or do i keep the crossfirex bridges and connect both monitors to the first card, still running crossfirex?

thanks!

I would just connect the 2 monitors to the one card and then extend the desktop using either desktop properties or Catalyst control center.

I would then like to open my Excel Workbook that has 2 sheets. One sheet is constant data input into various columns using my laptop. In the second sheet, I have formulas which constantly updates the data within a formatted table that I would like displayed onto the external monitor.

My project is to hook the laptop monitor into an overhead flat screen tv using HDMI cable. Then, while sitting in a corner with my laptop entering data, the results would be constantly updated for the audience to see.

Answer:dual monitors / dual programs set up

Hello dunna, welcome to Sevenforums

With a laptop, (assuming you have an HDMI port), it shouldn't be too difficult. However, laptops are different. For example, mine, you plug in the secondary monitor, and there is a function key (Fn) that you press, and the corresponding key to change the output mode (for me, it is F1). It should let you choose how you want to display to the monitor. Test it out yourself to see, but if you can't find it, let us know. It helps if you provide the laptop type, so we can tell you the keys exactly

I now have two monitors set up on my computer. One is using the VGA output, and the other is plugged into a DVI to VGA convertor in the DVI port. I have a Radeon 9600 Pro video card and am running Windows XP Home.

What I want is to extend my taskbar across onto the second monitor. Even better than that would be to have a second, independant taskbar which displays only programs open on the second screen. The first screen's taskbar would show programs open and displayed on the first monitor.

Any ideas?

Answer:Dual Monitors, dual Taskbars?

Guess what I found?

Exactly what I was looking for

Actually, not exactly. I was hoping for a native Windows solution that doesn't require running another program to get the second taskbar.

I'll clarify my question: Is there a way to get a second taskbar on a second monitor using options or features found in Windows XP? Failing that, does anyone have any favourite programs they'd like to suggest?

I seem to remember in the manual of my radeon card it said I was able to.

Thank you

Answer:Can I do dual monitors

Yes, it should work fine. Hook the VGA plug to the CRT and the DVI to the LCD. Then go into ATI Catalyst Control Center and make your LCD desktop 1 (primary) and the CRT as desktop 2. You can set the resolution independently for each monitor.

You could also hook-up the s-video output to your TV.

Question: Dual Monitors

Just added = GeForce 6600oc video card Dual Monitor Support
Existing 2 year old system = A7V333 mother board, AMD 1700 processer.
I'm using 2 Envision 7720 flat panel monitors. The problem I'm having is only one monitor is being recognized at a time, no matter what I do with the settings. Does anyone know if this could be a BIOS issue?

Answer:Dual Monitors

Theres no problem with your bios, nor computer age. I have the lower model 5600, and run dual out with no problems, Try updating your nvid drivers from www.nvidia.com not just the cd that came with your gpu. Also go to Display prop==>Settings==>Advanced==>Geforce6600==>Then Nview display settings, oh yeah, you have to turn on Nview options, its a few tabs below. I took out my 10 year old lan moniter, and im using it in dualview, its really cool, i can run cs in one mon, and have aim, foobar, firefox open in the other! Extreme multitasking! :approve:
here are some SS's

MS paint recognizes both moniters and takes a SS of both at the same time.

I have dual monitors, one on my laptop and another bigger monitor for when I am docked and at the office.

Under XP I had it set so that when I closed the lid on my laptop, the lapto screen was shut off and all files that were subsequently opend were opened to the main big screen.

It appears now that when I close the lid the screen stays on and if there was a window showing on the laptop when the lid is closed it does not automatically switch to the big monitor. It used to under XP. Is there a way to duplicate this behavior in Windows 7?

There are times when I want to use just one monitor and shut the monitor built-in to the lap top - off. Is there an easy way to do so?

Answer:Dual Monitors on Win 7

Wish someone would give a response to this. Surely I am not the only one. It appears the way Windows handles multiple monitors has changed substantially since XP.

Hello. I have two monitors. One which is DVI, my latest PC and monitor connected like that. I have another monitor which I want to use for dual monitors. It has a VGA port and only a VGA port as an old monitor. If I plug it in using a cable splitter - so VGA to HDMI which plugs into the PC will this work as a dual monitor? Thanks.
Also, which sides do I need to have the monitors on?

Question: Dual Monitors

I am attempting to install two monitors to my existing Gateway 5026E system. I have a NVIDIA grahics card 8800 GT OC from my son's older computer. I am usure whether I should even try this since I am assuming that my existing computer may not have all it needs to accomplish this task. I have installed the card and have the installation cd in telling me "the grahics adapater installed in the system is not compatable with the current set of drivers". I also realize the I need a power supply of at least 425w. I am overstepping my knowledge here and any step by step assistance would be appreciated. Let me know what other information is needed to assist. Thanks.

Answer:Dual Monitors

firstly the power supply will need to be 425 or 450w min as for the drivers the ones on the disc could be for a 32bit windows you could be running a 64bit i would right click my computer and click on properties at the bottem then click device manager in there find the card under display adaptors ( should have a yellow trangle next to it)
right click that then click on update drivers and search online (windows updates) for some new drivers also you could check the nvidia web site for new drivers 1 other thing did you uninstall the drivers for the card that you had in before?

Solved!

Answer:dual monitors

Unfortunately not.  When docked the VGA port on the X61 will be disabled and the output sent to the dock's VGA Port.  One possible solution for you would be the USB to DVI Adapter from Lenovo, details can be found here.

I am having some "detection" issues with my KVM switch on a Windows 7 machine.

As you can see in the above diagram, PC 1 has two monitors connected to it. One coming off of the KVM (monitor 1) and one coming straight from the computer. (Monitor 2)

Now whenever I switch to PC 2 and back to PC 1, Monitor 2 goes dead and I have to re detect in Windows. Is there any way to get it to automatically re-detect after I switch back to PC 1?

Answer:KVM + Dual Monitors

The issue is caused by that the KVM did not support DDC/EDID communication check/feeding between connected system and console monitor. You can either find KVM switch support FULL-TIME All DDC/EDID or just put a VGA-EDID emulator between PC1 and the TK-207K.

Ok, So not sure exactly how to describe my problem. I use 2 monitors on my PC, and use one for gaming, and the other one for watching Tv/movies/browsing while downtime in games. Now, When I am gaming on my Main monitor, everything is fine. But if I move over and interact with anything on my 2nd monitor, My game freezes up and goes (Not Responding) and I have to close it out and restart the entire game. This happens with most games, but not all. Drivers are up to date (as far as my knowledge goes) I just cant figure out what is causing this. I have tried looking up on google to no end but nothing

Answer:Need help with dual monitors.

That's about the equivalent of Alt+Tabbing on a single screen when gaming at full screen, you're pulling the focus, CPU and GPU away from what needs it most - it's really not recommended, can crash games, etc.

Set your game(s) to run full (single) screen in a window and see if that helps.

Thanks,

Never had a problem with running dual monitors with mine. You may want to update your drivers or, if it started after an update, go back to the last version.

Please help. Thanx.

Answer:dual monitors

I believe there is an FN key in your laptop.
There is also somewhere in the numerical keys, something like two squares, imagine one square then another square right on top of that but up and to the left a little. That is what this icon looks like.
Press fn and the key with that logo. THere are 3 options that you toggle like this. One is laptop display only, external monitor only, and display both (not necessarily in that order). So once you get it to display on both post another message if you have problems after or during this process.

I want to install a two-monitor set-up. After Windows 7 driver install, Windows detects the new LG 2486L as 'LG 2486 (Digital) on Standard VGA Graphics Adapter' and shows only one display icon as #1, failing to detect the older NEC display altogether, thus no option to extend the display onto a second monitor appears in, 'Change the appearance of your display'.

I am running the DVI cable that came with the new LG monitor. I am using an VGA/DVI adapter to connect the older VGA monitor. I disconnected the NEC monitor and restarted the system using only the LG monitor connection and still get the same result.

Monitors:NEW: LG 2486L (DVI Cable)
OLD: NEC LCD 1530V (VGA Cable w/Adapter)
System: Windows 7 64-bit
Asus P7P55D
Radeon HD 5770 (ATI)
Can anyone guide me through a correction of the errors or oversights I've made and help with the set up of these two monitors?

Thank you.

As of today, if I set the resolution of the ViewSonic to less than 1600 x 1200, the picture on the Viewsonic is shifted extremely far to the right, leaving a large gap in the extended desktop. Answer:Dual monitors

Does your GPU have 2 outputs? For example, new graphics cards all have Dual DVI output. You just connect the monitors to the two outputs and set it up in your graphics settings (right click desktop->property->settings->advanced). I think if you don't have dual outputs for your GPU, you might need to actually have 2 GPUs, each outputting to one monitor.

Answer:Dual Monitors

Probably not a direct fix... but in your bios, what is your primary video source set to? It should be set to AGP. (which it probably already is but im just making sure). Have you tried different monitors on the PCI video card and does that make a difference? Im assuming you have reinstalled your PCI cards driver and updated it in your trouble shooting process. Now that im thinking more about it... id try a different monitor for starters.

Question: Dual Monitors...??

Hey everyone, got a quick curious question here.

I am fascinated by the idea of having dual monitors on my desk. I really want the extra workspace. However, I have a few uncertainties about how it works.

I know the obvious thing: dual monitors give you more workspace on your desktop.

Is it just like an extended desktop where you drag things over to the other monitor for more workspace? In what way is the extra desktop workspace achieved?

Of course I would not come asking without doing my own research...
Several Google results and many pictures are all I have at the moment, which still does not tell me much about the details i seek.

From HERE it states that:

the "exended" or "independent displays" mode and the "spanning" or "streched" display mode. In both these modes, display devices are positioned next to each other in order to create the illusion that the two displays are logically contiguous.Click to expand...

Which basically means the monitors are side-by-side, which is what I want. It then explains more about different ways of using two monitors:

In "extended" mode additional desktop area is created on additional monitors. Each monitor can use different settings (resolution, color, refresh rate).

Alternately, some video cards are able to "span" the existing desktop area across two monitors rather than create additional desktop space. This is accomplished by using a widescreen res... Read more

Answer:Dual Monitors...??

There are basically 3 ways that things can happen, and it may vary on what they are called by the brand of the video chipset.

You can have them be exactly the same, meaning everything you see on monitor 1 is also identically displayed on monitor 2. This is pretty worthless unless you are doing color comparisons between the 2.

Another way is to have a HUGE start bar which spans over both screens, you can drag between 1 screen and the other, its effectively 1 big monitor. This way is better than the first one for obvious reasons, but its still not very good. Messages boxes often pop up right in the middle, so its split between 2 monitors not much good.

The 3rd way is to have 1 monitor be the primary and will house the start bar, then the second monitor is just an extention, but behaves independently. You can still drag windows between both. This is in my opinion the ideal setup.

Try not to make this more complex than necessary, its a pretty simple set of senarios.

Edit: Here is a shot of how mine is setup, I have a quicklaunch like bar set to autohide on the far right I forgot to have pop out for the screenshot.

Question: Dual Monitors....

Hello all, first post here!

I have finally got my dual monitor setup and am loving it...

Did some research online here and got myself UltraMon for some customization, but there is still ONE thing I would like to get, something like a virtual kvm switch. Whereas I could hit a Hotkey and change the keyboard and mouse inputs between the screens. I wouldnt mind if it caused the mouse not to switch normally between the screens.

My main reason for looking for this is I am a gamer and would like to be able to stay in a game while browsing the web or IMing in the other screen and not be kicked out and have to Alt+Tab back in :(

Thank you :)

Question: Dual Monitors

I have a Dell 4600 with onboard video which I disabled months ago to install a Nvidea stand alone video card. The system works great but now I would like to add another monitor for a dual setup. Can I enable the onboard video for one monitor and use the stand alone card for another monitor?
Will this cause conflicts?

Thanks for your help.

Question: Dual Monitors

I was wondering if anyone can offer clarity for me please? I have an E560 and want to run two monitors off the laptop to use it as a workstation when I am at the office.  Ideally I would like to use the mini display port option, and there are splitters out there that would then give me the chance to run 2 HDMI monitors.  However I was told to find out whether the unit supports this.  I have tried to look but cannot find the answer...so I was wondering whether anyone on here knew? Thank you in advance. Jonty

Pardon my ignorance, but at my work we run XP alongside the very ancient Windows 3.0. Can you run dual monitors between these systems in order to use only 1 mouse and keyboard?

Answer:dual monitors between XP and Win 3.0

Could you clarify what you want to do? Do you have two complete systems except for keyboard and mouse? Or are you running two different systems on the same computer?

Either way, you will have to have your keyboard and mouse plugged in to the system in order for it to boot.

If you have two computers, you'll have to swap the keyboard and mouse after shutting down one system and before booting up the other.

This means you can only have one operating system running at a time.

Keyboards and mice are not expensive, and it's worthwhile for any business to have a spare around anyway.

If the desk space is a problem, then arrange things so you can sore the keyboard and mouse not being used off to one side.

Question: 3 Dual Monitors

Hi all,

I'd like to run 3 DUAL monitors on my computer.

I used to use integrated graphics on my computer until recently, where i started using a video card
My video card has 2 outputs, so i can (have) two dual monitors right now.

I read in a article that when I plug in a new video card, the integrated graphics is disabled.
is there anyway i can enable the integrated graphics WITH the video card so i can have THREE dual monitors??

I have a AMD Athlon XP disc, with ATI Radeon 9550.

Thanks!!

Answer:3 Dual Monitors

Let's think about this. Three dual monitors equal 6 monitors. Welcome!

Question: Dual Monitors

I Have an HP Pavillion dv9000 laptop with the xb3000 dock station. I'm running XP pro SP3 (legit but aftermarket). I plugged in my Fuji monitor (which is working). The problem is both monitors show the same thing. I want to run an expanded desktop. I tried to go through the control panel display tab but I do not have the dual monitor choices i would prefer. If it helps, on settings I only have 2 options, 800x600 and 1024x768. Do I need a special driver or update?

Question: Dual Monitors

Hello everyone!

Here is my problem. I am running Windows 7 Ultimate Edition on my desktop PC. I installed a fairly old graphics card (dont need anything fancy for software programming). It is a Jaton 117PCI with 32MB memory. Also I have a ATI Radeon HD Pro 2600 Installed. I cahnged my BIOS to boot PCI first instead of PCIe. Windows will boot up but no display on the ATI Card. I go to device manger and it shows both cards, with no conflicts and working properly.

When i access the displays menu in Windows 7 it will only show my montior on the Jaton card and will not show my ATI card as being active.

Is there anything i can do to get these two cards to work together? (I thought i was really good at computers, but now haha this has thrown me for a loop)

I found this post:
Triple Screen troubles
it was identical to my problem except my setup was different, his method of fixing his problem i dont think is going to work for me.

Also, the ATI card has two DVI ports and a S-Video, i just dont have another monitor with DVI. When i use a DVI to VGA converter the monitor wont come on it will stay in power save mode. I know the ports on the card are working because I can remove the converter and plug it up to my other monitor that has DVI on it and it will power up.

So any help to solve either one of these problems will be greatly appreciated. If there is anymore information you may need please let me know!

Thanks, Jonathan.

Answer:Dual Monitors

When you right click on the desktop and select Resolutions do you get the option for both cards there?

If you dont, have a look in Device manager and see if they are both WDDM 1.1 Cards because i believe they have to be to run together.

If you do, try installing the actual drivers for your monitors, as that fixed similar problems mentioned at the end of my original thread...

Question: Dual Monitors

So I have been trying to get this specific setup working lately but i'm somewhat at a loss.
I have 2 monitors on my computer right now, everything normal is working okay but my what I am having trouble with is, Is there a way I can make it so while they both display different things, let's say I am in a full screen game, and talking to someone on an instant messanger via second monitor, I can move my mouse freely on the second monitor click/type without the full screen application minimizing?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Dual Monitors

Do you have the setting for dull-view that should work.

Or...

I have a nvidia card and the software includes a control panel. One of the options is for full screen. It lets you set it what display will be used for main display and thats were the full screen game or movie would be. Im sorry i cant help you better but I kinda dont know how to put it.

Question: Dual monitors

I have a dell dimension 2300 computer that has on board video. I have installed a pci ati all in wonder 128 pro video card. I am wondering if both video outputs can be used to run two monitors. I can go to the device manager and under displays it shows the ati as enabled and the on board disabled. I have enabled both cards and then chickened out, not knowing if I would be able to get it to work again. If I hook up the second monitor and enable the on board graphics are all kinds of bad things going to happen.

Answer:Dual monitors

Should work fine but you are asking that little 2300 to work harder.

Question: dual monitors

Can someone please recommend a good not too expensive graphics card that will enable me to have dual monitors, one being a tft screen the other being a crt screen. I have curently 32mg intergrated graphics card, I would rather have just the one card, but if needs be I could install two. I don't particularly game on due to having a PS2, (I know that was a little like swearing on here lol), I do watch dvds on my pc, so would appreciatte something that will make the picture crisp while watching these. If not too expensive an intergrated TV card would be good but not essential.

thanks woody.

Hello. I cannot get a dual monitor setup to work for the life of me. I've made a LITTLE progress though by tweaking the BIOS to load from the Mobo VGA port first on boot, but now the second monitor just stays lit up with the windows 10 logo and nothing else, while the first still works just fine. Windows will not detect the second monitor, nor will extending it on the projector settings work. The main monitor is plugged into DVI on an old ATI Radeon HD 7700 Series card. Forget the exact model and that. I believe it's an H.I.S. Radeon. But I'm going through all the options and i'm scratching my head here. help would be appreciated.

EDIT The Radeon card I have only supports one DVI connection and one HDMI. Both monitors I have are VGA/DVI.

Answer:Need help with dual monitors

I'll happily be wrong, but I don't believe you can run one from the mobo and one from the video card together.

Disable the mobo GPU in BIOS.

Then get an HDMI/DVI adapter so you can run the second monitor off the card with the first.

Answer:Dual Monitors

It might be possible to create an autoit program to do this.
It would require a lot of skill and computer knowledge patiance and willing to learn some programing if your up for it. see this link. AutoIt 3.0
THe easiest way is to set it up to simulate mouse clicks and keystrokes. You use note pad to write the script and save it as .au3
A list of functions can be found here Functions
You can also use a nifty little gadget included called AutoIt Window Info which provides you with details about the enviroment your working in.

Other than that i dont know of any other programs
Hope ive been help full
