dual monitors / dual programs set up

Question: dual monitors / dual programs set up

Can anyone please tell me how to set up another monitor to work with my laptop computer? I've made a little progress, HOWEVER...

I would then like to open my Excel Workbook that has 2 sheets. One sheet is constant data input into various columns using my laptop. In the second sheet, I have formulas which constantly updates the data within a formatted table that I would like displayed onto the external monitor.

My project is to hook the laptop monitor into an overhead flat screen tv using HDMI cable. Then, while sitting in a corner with my laptop entering data, the results would be constantly updated for the audience to see.

Thanks...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: dual monitors / dual programs set up

Hello dunna, welcome to Sevenforums

With a laptop, (assuming you have an HDMI port), it shouldn't be too difficult. However, laptops are different. For example, mine, you plug in the secondary monitor, and there is a function key (Fn) that you press, and the corresponding key to change the output mode (for me, it is F1). It should let you choose how you want to display to the monitor. Test it out yourself to see, but if you can't find it, let us know. It helps if you provide the laptop type, so we can tell you the keys exactly

Having just upgraded from XP using the Nvidia dual monitor desktops for years, I was surprised to find Windows 7 has this feature in-built with the added bonus of slideshow desktop images C00L!
So beyond Win7 eye candy which is better, Does it come down to games running faster under the Nvidia dual desktops, what is the general preference here?

Answer:Is Nvidia dual monitors a poor cousin to Windows 7 dual monitors?..

afaik, there is no real performance difference, as all stuff is handled by the nvidia driver anyway.

And of course the more monitors the higher performance hit as there is more screen surface to work on (the same as increasing resolution).

Btw, the main pityfall of the multiple monitors is that the taskbar is only in the primary monitor, but there are a ton of good third party programs that can handle this, like Actual Multiple Monitors.

I am new to the dual monitor thing and have a question about using seperate programs on each monitor.

Can you have one website on your left monitor and have another completely different website on your right monitor at the same time? My left monitor has all the icons and my right monitor has nothing but the screen saver. If I drag an Icon over to the right screen and then click to open it, it just opens on my left screen which is set as the primary.

Help!!

Answer:Using programs with dual monitors

You can always drag one browser window to the other monitor..

Your browser has to support multiple monitors to have this done automatically.

I currently run 2 monitors, i use my main monitor (which is a 4k monitor) for gaming and the other (1080p) for keeping EVGA precision x, and real temp up to monitor temps. When my screens shut off when the computer "goes to sleep" the programs EVGA precision x and real temp are no longer on the second monitor they switch to my main monitor. Also my windows programs like recycle bin and installed games/apps seem to rearrange themselves and stack along the top and i have to move all of them back. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix this? or whats wrong?

I have two monitors set up, and I'm trying to get it so I can be playing a game or using a fullscreen application like Vegas while typing something on the other monitor. I tried doing this, but clicking on the other window that I want to type in makes it the active window and minimizes whatever else I'm doing on the first monitor. Is there any way to either
A) Edit a text document without making it the active window, or
B) Allow both monitors to have active windows at the same time
Is it possible to do any of those?

Answer:Dual monitors with two programs at the same time?

Welcome to TSG!

You can only have one Active (aka Foreground) application running. Otherwise the operating system wouldn't know where to send keyboard input.
So the answer to both questions is no.

Not quite sure why it would minimize the application though.

So I just ordered an 8800gts to replace my 7800gts in Vista x64. I was wondering if keeping it and running my secondary monitor off of it would alleviate the stress aero puts on the video card when running dual monitors and gaming and increase my performance. Would I be better off keeping the 7800gts for the second monitor? Is this even possible?

Answer:Dual Video cards, dual monitors, and Vista game performance

It is certainly possible, you can use both cards at the same time, assuming your mob supports it.

I doubt if you'll see a huge increase in gaming performance, as aero essentially shuts itself off when needed (gaming), but it won't hurt anything either.

i have 2 ati radeon hd 4850's. right now they are connected with the crossfirex bridges and i'm only using one monitor and running crossfirex. i'm thinking of getting a second monitor for better gaming/seeing more stuff in flight sim X.

what i can't find is how to use 2 monitors with 2 cards. do i remove the crossfirex bridges and connect one monitor per card, or do i keep the crossfirex bridges and connect both monitors to the first card, still running crossfirex?

thanks!

Answer:dual graphics cards, dual monitors, ati crossfireX

I would just connect the 2 monitors to the one card and then extend the desktop using either desktop properties or Catalyst control center.

I now have two monitors set up on my computer. One is using the VGA output, and the other is plugged into a DVI to VGA convertor in the DVI port. I have a Radeon 9600 Pro video card and am running Windows XP Home.

What I want is to extend my taskbar across onto the second monitor. Even better than that would be to have a second, independant taskbar which displays only programs open on the second screen. The first screen's taskbar would show programs open and displayed on the first monitor.

Any ideas?

Answer:Dual Monitors, dual Taskbars?

Guess what I found?

Exactly what I was looking for

Actually, not exactly. I was hoping for a native Windows solution that doesn't require running another program to get the second taskbar.

I'll clarify my question: Is there a way to get a second taskbar on a second monitor using options or features found in Windows XP? Failing that, does anyone have any favourite programs they'd like to suggest?

I was wondering if anyone knew of a program that would allow a different screensaver for each screen. I currently use Mapped Up for all my computers (which is one of the coolest ones around), but would love to be able to use a different RSS ss or a network information ss on my second monitor to maximize the news shown.

Hi,My setup includes dual monitors with a T61 in port replicator  and a Dell 24" monitor positioned above.  While I can achieve this setup by manually dragging the external monitor above the laptop each time I dock, I cannot get the Presentation Director to capture this position accurately.  It will capture the setup, but reverts to horizontal monitors with left/right mouse whenever the captured profile is used.   [With my old T43 in the same setup, I was able to get the monitor positions memorized correctly. ] Does anyone have a solution?  I've checked the Control Panel--> Display settings and the NVIDIA Control panel.  The control panel allows me to set up the external monitor as per above, but I haven't found any control to ensure the settings "stick".

Answer:Dual Monitors / Cannot capture vertical monitors (mouse up /down vs left /right)

Additional Note:  I've also tried creating a new profile in the Presentation Director with the selection for "External Monitor positioned above laptop", but that does not work as it will not recognize the external monitor resolution of 1900x1280, and thus will not allow me to finish the profile.

Hi there guys and girls,

I just have a quick question that I'm looking for an answer for.

I've recently been given a shiny new video card, which is awesome as I've only ever had onboard video on this PC. It's a Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB. I realise it's not the greatest video card in the world (just because I can't afford to buy one doesn't mean I don't know what's good ), but it's free, and I rarely turn down free things.

Anyway, on to the point.

As some of you may know, the Radeon 9800 has 3 ports. VGA, TV, and DVI. I wish to set up a dual monitor system, but all the monitors I have sitting around are analog (VGA). I thought, no problem, I have a VGA port on my motherboard, and I can use the one on the video card.

Alas, I've been playing around for a few hours, and I couldn't seem to find a way to do it. So I do what I usually do when I need an answer. I hit google. Found tons of dual monitor tutorials and faqs, but none of them mentioned anything about onboard.

My question is as follows:

Is it at all possible (even if it requires some slight hacking) to set up a dual monitor system using one VGA port on the video card and one on the motherboard?

If not, is there a VGA to TV or DVI adaptor I'm able to get? If so where, and at what price (I'm in Australia ). Or can you think of any other way I can do this cheaply? .

Or does anyone have a spare VGA-DVI adaptor or video card sit... Read more

Answer:Dual monitors with 1 dual video card and onboard video

Well AFAIK you can't dual-monitor with and I/O card and onboard video. Its one or the other. However I know you can get DVI-to-VGA adapters. Those might work for you so long as the card supports dual-monitor (no time to check right now).

Hi! I just upgraded to Win8 this weekend and so far I really like it. I discovered something this morning that now that the weekend is over is bugging the crap out of me and I need help. I work from home and use this alot so it would be helpful.

I am trying to do a couple things I could easily do in 7,
- have Chrome open in both monitors at once with different things on them.
- currently Chrome has no minimize/maximize buttons on the upper right like it used to. Makes it very hard to multitask.

I have 2 monitors, the main is a 23" touch screen and the second is an 18" non-touch screen.

Also, is there a way to have the taskbar to appear at the bottom always like it used to?

Thanks! I really appreciate the help!

Answer:Windows 8 Dual Monitors, need help having browser open in both monitors

Answered my own question. Google Chrome was showing in App mode. When I downloaded Chrome for 8 there is an option to have it show in desktop mode and the taskbar, minimize/maximize, and multi window option came back. YAY.

Now if someone could tell me why windows 8 won't fill the screen at the resolution recommended for my 23" monitor I'd be good!

I have an ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 9600 video card. It's been working properly for quite awhile and now suddenly the cursor moves to the second monitor when I drag the cursor beyond the bottom of the first monitor.

It used to go from one monitor to the other by dragging it from left-to-right. I can't figure out what caused it to start doing this or how to go about getting it back to the way it was before. Any ideas how to change it back. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you!

Greetings all.

I'm having a slight problem figuring this one out. I shouldn't, but this problem is kicking my rear. I've got two AOC monitors set up for a client, yet they don't actually portray a "stretched desktop" over the two monitors. It Displays one "widescreen image of my desktop on the right monitor, and what looks like a fullscreen image on the left. I've gone through the usual setup for dual monitors...

Change Display Settings ->
Select 2 in the monitor selection screen ->
Select "Extend" in the other option menu.

I've tried "Windows + P" and tried it that way too.

I've made sure they're the same resolution and an display hertz are the same. I hope to the Gods that this is an easy fix and one of you will have a quick solution for me, but I've gone over all my specs and I just can NOT figure it out. Its usually an easy setup, but for some reason, I'm stumped.

Answer:Dual Monitors not so dual

Are they the same model AOC monitors? How are you connecting the monitors...what type of cables? Are you connecting them both to the mobo or to a gpu or one to each?

..Hey gang..built my daughter a system for Xmas which is not going to be 100% I guess, but close..I built a dual-hard drive system one for the kids and one for her to do graphics work..I installed a spinner sata with Win 7 for kids and an SSD with Win 8.1 for her..installed 7 first and then 8 and things were fine, Win 8 would give me a nice screen asking me which OS I wanted to boot to.. but then the spinner started blue screening and grinding so I changed the hd and of course it screwed my boot up and I don't know alot about mbr's and that kind of thing but downloaded EasyBCD and was able to fumble my way through it to luckily get Win 8 back but here's my problem..When I shut down in Win 7 everything is fine as when I start it up I get a bios like screen asking me which OS I want to boot to..but when I shut down in Win 8 it automatically boots back to Win 8 without asking...I have to "restart" to get to the OS choice screen..I don't want to go messing around much further here without some direction as googling my way around miraculously saved me the first time but this problem is a little too convoluted to try and research on my own...Any suggestions greatly appreciated..merry xmas all!

Well, you'll have one monitor connected via the HDMI, and another via the VGA. If the monitor(s) you get don't have either of those connections, there are converters for what you need.

I have a ThinkCentre E73 Small Form Factor with a i7-4790s CPU which uses the built in HD 4600 graphics. I'm planning on connecting two 2560*1440 resolution screens. The problem is that I only have 1 display port out. What's the best way to resolve this problem?  My guess is that I need to install another graphics card. Will I be able to use both the built in ports and another card simultaneously, or do I need a card that I can connect both monitors to? What card would you recommend? I don't need any gaming performance, since this is an office computer.

According to this, you can run both at the same time. https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht062228also I suggest you update you BIOS to the latest using the ISO method. You need a low-profile card for a SFF pc. I suggest a Nvidia GT730 as the best performance for the money non-gaming. GDDR5 is better. Be careful checking the specs for your resolution, you need it to be at 60 fps: DisplayPort, dual-link DVI, or HDMI 2.0The list of supported Nvidia cards is here: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/products/desktops-and-all-in-ones/thinkcentre-e-series-desktops/thin...

Question: Dual Monitors

Gentlemen,

I'm running Windows Vista 32 bit Home blah, blah, blah, with a NVIDIA GEForce 6150 graphics card.

I have 2 monitors, but believe I need to purchase another video/graphics card.

Anyone smarter than me out there (that was meant to be self depricating), that could recommend a plain jain, cheap graphics card so I can hook up my second monitor? I'm not into gaming, just love having two monitors at work, and once you have two, you can't handle one, right?

would do the trick quite nicely, seeing as gaming is not a concern.

During my days work, I am planning to use one monitor, for example running MS Excel as a database and the other MS Word.

If I am using my only keyboard for Excel how can I switch to Word and start typing in Word?

Would it be just a simple question of moving my mouse over to the other program and type?

Yes. You need 2 videocards or a videocard with 2 outputs. (mostly 1 vga and 1 DVI) Then connect a CRT to the vga connector and an LCD to the DVI. Or a second CRT using an adapter.

I have a ThinkCentre A62 (9935-b7u) at work that I'd like to set up with dual analog displays. I took a PCI Express card that was running dual displays out of an A61 (9120-acu) and it doesn't recognize the card at all. Even after updating the BIOS, all I get are post beeps. The A62 has a built-in VGA and DVI-D output on the back. However, from what I've been reading, it's not as simple as buying a VGA to DVI-D adapter to make this work. Can the A62 actually display dual monitors with the two onboard video heads? and if so, what adapter would I need to make a VGA monitor compatible with the DVI-D port? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

your system should support surroundview, in which if you use an ATI graphics card (i.e. ati 3450), you can use the dvi + vga port from the thinkcentre, in addition to the video card's video port output. http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/A-and-M-Series-ThinkCentre/How-do-you-get-4-monitors-support-through-Sur...

all I want is dual monitorsHello folks. Here it is. I bought a new 20in monitor. I would like to be able to hook up the new monitor as well as the 17inch older monitor. I only have a single onboard vga output on my pc now. I have a pci-e port available. So i'm thinking, no problem, I just need a dual output video card. My guitar player allegedly knows all about computers and actually makes a living doing computer repair work. He says "oh, no problem, I've got a bunch of dual output cards laying around." On Saturday he brought me five dual output video cards heaped together in a walmart bag. I was reluctant to put any one of these in my pc since they appeared not cared for. He tells me, it's cool. So I proceed to install each and every one of the five with no results. I am pretty sure that I did the install correctly, (only doubt I have is if I need to somehow disable the onboard output before trying to install the new card, my buddy said no, and I haven't seen this mentioned in my reading about the installation process.) After install of each card, my pc did not recognize any new hardware on start-up, nor could I locate it. OK, so the "I know a guy" technique didn't work out. I will now buy what I need to get dual monitors. I have two concerns now. Could there be a problem with my slot? I would like to hope not, it was a virgin slot. a video card looks like a pretty *censored* delicate piece of technology to just toss into a walmar... Read more

Answer:trying for dual monitors

If you have a valid PCI - e slot and a PCI -e card they should fit together no problem.  The trick is to pulg the monitor into the new video card and not the old port you were using.  By default, if it is a working card, the computer will display something to it.  Normally before a driver is installed for that hardware, it will default to a low resolution so things appear bigger than usual, but this is normal. If you did not get to this point after putting in any of these cards, odds are that all the cards are bad (which would explain how this guy got them for free and kept them in a heap), or the slot may be bad.  If you did get to this part, you'll want to look up the make and model of the card and search the web for a driver.  It should be listed on the card somewhere, Radeon or Nvidia are the two major brands, and the numbers after it are the model (6800, x300, 9250, etc.).  Look for the brand's drivers online and find a match through their driver search feature.  Download this and your cards should work properly.  If you have two monitor ports on the card, you should be able to just plug in the monitors and they will work.

Hello. I cannot get a dual monitor setup to work for the life of me. I've made a LITTLE progress though by tweaking the BIOS to load from the Mobo VGA port first on boot, but now the second monitor just stays lit up with the windows 10 logo and nothing else, while the first still works just fine. Windows will not detect the second monitor, nor will extending it on the projector settings work. The main monitor is plugged into DVI on an old ATI Radeon HD 7700 Series card. Forget the exact model and that. I believe it's an H.I.S. Radeon. But I'm going through all the options and i'm scratching my head here. help would be appreciated.

EDIT The Radeon card I have only supports one DVI connection and one HDMI. Both monitors I have are VGA/DVI.

Answer:Need help with dual monitors

I'll happily be wrong, but I don't believe you can run one from the mobo and one from the video card together.

Disable the mobo GPU in BIOS.

Then get an HDMI/DVI adapter so you can run the second monitor off the card with the first.

Question: Dual Monitors

Or should I say "dueling monitors". They seem to be competing. The problem is the screen resolution on the 32" flat screen TV. I can't get it to cover the whole screen. I had a similar set-up with a 22" monitor and a 40" TV and every thing was fine. Now I have a new set-up, a 22" monitor and a 32" TV. I went into the control panel, adjust screen resolution and tried to get it set up but it's not working. I have tried it in "Extend these displays" which shows a different resolution for each monitor but the TV still doesn't have the screen filled. I tried in "Duplicate these displays" and it's the same thing. I can understand it wouldn't work in this mode because it shows only one resolution. My video card is a XFX1-PL. I have the monitor hooked up by DVI and the TV by HDMI, that's how my other set up was too. I think I might have had the same video card.

I don't know if it's the software or the hardware but it DOES see them but then says it doesn't, so i dunno. any ideas?

Answer:Dual Monitors

"One or both secondary monitors" ?

Vista laptop as a second monitor?

How many actual monitors do you have? Not including the one on the laptop.

If the laptop has a video IN port, what type is it?

Question: Dual Monitors

Can someone give me an easy step by step for setting up dual monitors?

Answer:Dual Monitors

Plug in your second monitor and enjoy.

It varies depending on what video card you have. ATI tells us nothing. If it has two ports, you should be able to plug in a second monitor, and have it clone. From there, you need to open the settings and set it to extend not clone. Since I am not familiar with ATI cards, and each one varies, we cannot tell you exactly.

I will bet it will work if you just plug it in though.

Question: Dual Monitors

So I have been trying to get this specific setup working lately but i'm somewhat at a loss.
I have 2 monitors on my computer right now, everything normal is working okay but my what I am having trouble with is, Is there a way I can make it so while they both display different things, let's say I am in a full screen game, and talking to someone on an instant messanger via second monitor, I can move my mouse freely on the second monitor click/type without the full screen application minimizing?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Dual Monitors

Do you have the setting for dull-view that should work.

Or...

I have a nvidia card and the software includes a control panel. One of the options is for full screen. It lets you set it what display will be used for main display and thats were the full screen game or movie would be. Im sorry i cant help you better but I kinda dont know how to put it.

Answer:Dual Monitors

It might be possible to create an autoit program to do this.
It would require a lot of skill and computer knowledge patiance and willing to learn some programing if your up for it. see this link. AutoIt 3.0
THe easiest way is to set it up to simulate mouse clicks and keystrokes. You use note pad to write the script and save it as .au3
A list of functions can be found here Functions
You can also use a nifty little gadget included called AutoIt Window Info which provides you with details about the enviroment your working in.

Other than that i dont know of any other programs
Hope ive been help full

Question: Dual Monitors...??

Hey everyone, got a quick curious question here.

I am fascinated by the idea of having dual monitors on my desk. I really want the extra workspace. However, I have a few uncertainties about how it works.

I know the obvious thing: dual monitors give you more workspace on your desktop.

Is it just like an extended desktop where you drag things over to the other monitor for more workspace? In what way is the extra desktop workspace achieved?

Of course I would not come asking without doing my own research...
Several Google results and many pictures are all I have at the moment, which still does not tell me much about the details i seek.

From HERE it states that:

the "exended" or "independent displays" mode and the "spanning" or "streched" display mode. In both these modes, display devices are positioned next to each other in order to create the illusion that the two displays are logically contiguous.Click to expand...

Which basically means the monitors are side-by-side, which is what I want. It then explains more about different ways of using two monitors:

In "extended" mode additional desktop area is created on additional monitors. Each monitor can use different settings (resolution, color, refresh rate).

Alternately, some video cards are able to "span" the existing desktop area across two monitors rather than create additional desktop space. This is accomplished by using a widescreen res... Read more

Answer:Dual Monitors...??

There are basically 3 ways that things can happen, and it may vary on what they are called by the brand of the video chipset.

You can have them be exactly the same, meaning everything you see on monitor 1 is also identically displayed on monitor 2. This is pretty worthless unless you are doing color comparisons between the 2.

Another way is to have a HUGE start bar which spans over both screens, you can drag between 1 screen and the other, its effectively 1 big monitor. This way is better than the first one for obvious reasons, but its still not very good. Messages boxes often pop up right in the middle, so its split between 2 monitors not much good.

The 3rd way is to have 1 monitor be the primary and will house the start bar, then the second monitor is just an extention, but behaves independently. You can still drag windows between both. This is in my opinion the ideal setup.

Try not to make this more complex than necessary, its a pretty simple set of senarios.

Edit: Here is a shot of how mine is setup, I have a quicklaunch like bar set to autohide on the far right I forgot to have pop out for the screenshot.

Question: dual monitors

Running windows XP Sec ed. Have one monitor but also have GrandTec pc toVideo Converter to watch monitor on a LCD tv (for streaming video). Would like to set up so TV becomes second monitor and still do work on first monitor.
Only have one VGA output on Motherboard (Have VIA/S3G DEltaChrome IGP Internal Memory Size 128 mb. AGP enabled. Have two PCI standard slots and one PCIEX16 slot. Can I add a graphics card with two VGA outputs and will that accomplish my goal? How much memory should the Graphics card have?

Thanks much.

Answer:dual monitors

Memory on the video card is not a big factor in streaming video.
Only for rendering 3D apps and games.
A 256MB card should do fine.
A PCI express X16 slot is for a video card upgrade.
Shouldn't need to high performance of a card so a power
supply upgrade probably wont be needed.
Something like this.............

Hello,
I just recently started running dual monitors, my first monitor is my laptop screen while my second monitor is a 19" Dynex lcd tv. The resolution on the laptop screen is set to 1280x800 where as the tv is set at 1440x900

My problem started when I decided to try and play a game on the tv monitor. The game was set in a 1280x800 resolution and as far as I can tell it must be changing the tv to a resolution it doesn't support, because i get the error message "Mode not supported". This also happens when I change the tv's resolution to a resolution below 1440x900.

I fixed the problem and as long as my laptop is open i can use the second monitor as a main monitor or a secondary one. However when I close the laptop screen the tv screen goes blank and displays the error message again ("Mode not supported"). What should happen is the tv should automatically switch to main and only monitor. So I am assuming somewhere in the computers settings this is messed up I just can't find where and its driving me crazy.

I can't find the solution in the nvidia control panel or in display settings.
Thanks in advance.

Question: dual monitors

Hello everyone, I'm still stumped. I have 2 samsung22 monitors hooked up to a 8800gtx running on windows7 64bit. The problem I've had ever since going to windows7 is 1 monitor works, the other just black screen with power on. I've gone into nvidia control panel and also through windows and it shows both monitors present but I noticed one monitor is attached through an analog cable but both are hooked up with the dvi cables. Could my card have a bad port? when I plug in monitor 2 in the r/s dvi port it shows the right side desktop portion of the extended view and when I switch to monitor 1 on the right side dvi port it shows the left side desktop view but nothing comes up when attached to the left side dvi port. I've taken a snap shot of my desktop and it shows both screens. I've tried older drivers as far back to 170's and nothing worked.

Answer:dual monitors

You are on the right track, if when either monitors are hooked up to the r/s it works, and when hooked to the l/s it does not, then I think it is safe to say that the l/s is bad. Have you tried removing the card and the drivers, and then reseating th card, then reinstalling the drivers? But wait, you said when you go into the display settings, you see both monitors when they are both hooked to l/s and r/s? Have you tried clicking the detect button to see what happens? Sorry I have more questions than answers.

Question: Dual Monitors

Hello,

I recently installed Windows 8 and was playing around with it for most of the day yesterday, I was able to get both monitors up and working, I have a Vizio E470VL and a Sony SDM-P232W ... Yesterday I had the E470VL as the main Screen and it made the 2nd Display a Generic Nvidia Display monitor, but both were working..

So last night I watched some preseason football on the Vizio on HDM2 and when I woke up this morning, the Sony was still working but the Vizio (computer is on HDM1) had no signal input, while I noticed the extended screen was enabled meaning my mouse disappeared onto the other blank screen .. so the thought occurred to me to restart..

So I restarted, then it recognized my Sony with its proper settings instead of the Generic and only listed one monitor in the Display settings.. I did a detect device and was given a few options of adding another monitor, and tried to do that, without any success.. so then I detached the Sony, and tried to restart only with the Vizio on both ports, the one it was originally in and the one the Sony was in.. with no success, still no signal, checked the connections, and somehow I doubt it would be the cable and I admit that the symptoms in trouble shooting things kind of point to that, but the cable is new.. and would love to entertain other ideas before getting a new one..

any suggestions?

Setup: Dell Monitor as primary, Sharp 32" TV as secondary monitor.
When I move VLC over to the TV and click the maximize button, it maximizes on my dell monitor.

The only workaround I've found so far is setting VLC to minimal view, then toggling fullscreen on.

If I do a VLC playlist and it switches tracks, it toggles off fullscreen mode, so I have to get up... plus I'd rather click one button to make it work instead of doing that workaround.

A guy at work said he noticed the same thing, and has not found a better solution...

Any idea how to make this work?

Yes, it should work fine. Hook the VGA plug to the CRT and the DVI to the LCD. Then go into ATI Catalyst Control Center and make your LCD desktop 1 (primary) and the CRT as desktop 2. You can set the resolution independently for each monitor.

You could also hook-up the s-video output to your TV.

Pardon my ignorance, but at my work we run XP alongside the very ancient Windows 3.0. Can you run dual monitors between these systems in order to use only 1 mouse and keyboard?

Answer:dual monitors between XP and Win 3.0

Could you clarify what you want to do? Do you have two complete systems except for keyboard and mouse? Or are you running two different systems on the same computer?

Either way, you will have to have your keyboard and mouse plugged in to the system in order for it to boot.

If you have two computers, you'll have to swap the keyboard and mouse after shutting down one system and before booting up the other.

This means you can only have one operating system running at a time.

Keyboards and mice are not expensive, and it's worthwhile for any business to have a spare around anyway.

If the desk space is a problem, then arrange things so you can sore the keyboard and mouse not being used off to one side.

Answer:Dual monitors on T.V

A tv makes a very poor monitor that's why!! The only way to make it readable is to set the res very low and use a low res desktop and enlarge your text/font's menu's and such. The only half decent tv monitor would be a high def tv with idealy dvi input!! It's nothing you are doing. Oh btw that's what windows media center does! low res desktop with special font's and such.

I am having some "detection" issues with my KVM switch on a Windows 7 machine.

As you can see in the above diagram, PC 1 has two monitors connected to it. One coming off of the KVM (monitor 1) and one coming straight from the computer. (Monitor 2)

Now whenever I switch to PC 2 and back to PC 1, Monitor 2 goes dead and I have to re detect in Windows. Is there any way to get it to automatically re-detect after I switch back to PC 1?

Answer:KVM + Dual Monitors

The issue is caused by that the KVM did not support DDC/EDID communication check/feeding between connected system and console monitor. You can either find KVM switch support FULL-TIME All DDC/EDID or just put a VGA-EDID emulator between PC1 and the TK-207K.

So I'm a newbie to the site and I just want to say I like all the great advice that people are giving. I want to start of with my problem. I want to run dual monitors with a s-video out and run rca's to my television on my Dell Dimension DIM300 Pentium 4 2.8 GHZ and 512 mb ram. Both monitors that I have are vga LCD flatscreen. I have been reading everything that I can trying to find what video card I should use. I will primarily be using it for viewing videos and eventually doing some editing on it, but I want to have the ability to use my t.v. in the mix and view videos and dvd's through it. I am of intermediate skill level so I have some knowledge, but I don't know exactly what I should look for whether it is brand, specs of the card etc. Any help or suggestions is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
FJB

Answer:Dual Monitors??

Well if u cant find a card with both 2 VGA outputs and a tv out jack on it then u might have to go with one with a DVI and a VGA and a tv. out and jsut buy an adapter to make the DVI into a VGA. For just watching videos, Any video card will be sufficient

Question: dual monitors

Got a little prob with setting up dual monitors.have a Gforce 3 card with dual outputs the second output being DVI.All cables are linked and correct. When I first run from bootup I get a display on both monitors (the dos boot info and the black startup screen)As soon as windows fully loads I lose my second display.I'm using XP Pro op/sys.Have been into the display settings but it is NOT showing second monitor icon.Have the latest drivers from Nvidia 43.45As I,m getting a display on bootup on second monitor the hardware must be working ok.Any one had this prob before please and know what the answer may be....?Many thanks for any help.

Answer:dual monitors

Are you sure these are dual outputs, and not alternatives - most cards I have seen like this are altenative outputs - ie one or the other - not both.

Hi everyone,

I have an IBM M52 8215-d1g, that according to the internal riser has a PCIe 1x addr2-r slot. According to the documentation on the website it is a Small Form Factor (2x3).

I have some questions:-

I want to run a second monitor off my machine, what cards/ type of cards are recommended for my desktop box?
Should I be looking for a dual head card, or would the system be able to utilize the internal card at the same time?

I would preferably be looking for at least a 256Mb card minimum, would also be looking at mebbe HD support for future ref, but not essential, as the TV has a VGA in that I use.

Thanks so much.. if there's anything I have missed, ask away.

Answer:Dual Monitors on M52?

Thanks AndyP.. Have updated my location. Can anyone help me?  Or is there a direct mail address to lenovo / IBM where I may get support? I am finding that because my machine is out of warranty, I'm the I.T. equivalent of the boy at your school who smelt of cabbage and sour milk.

Question: Dual monitors

I hope I didn't goof up. I purchased an Idea Center K Series desktop from Tiger Direct along with a KFA Nvidia GeForce 8400 video card. I bought the system to use in my church to run a projection system as a 2nd monitor. I thought enabling dual monitors would be as easy as installing the video card and connecting the projector to its output. However, with the GeForce video card in the PCIE slot, the integrated video seems to disapear leaving only the GeForce. I assumed there would be a BIOS setting that would allow me to enable both the integrated video and the PCIE card, but I can't find it. Please tell me there's a way to make this work!

What type of computer do you have?  How did you get the graphics adapter to work?  Did you have to change the power supply to be able to plug in the adapter?

Question: Dual Monitors

I have a Dell 4600 with onboard video which I disabled months ago to install a Nvidea stand alone video card. The system works great but now I would like to add another monitor for a dual setup. Can I enable the onboard video for one monitor and use the stand alone card for another monitor?
Will this cause conflicts?

Thanks for your help.

Question: Dual Monitors

Hello,

I have just hooked up a second monitor to my PC and its up and running fine.

I have the monitors set up in dual view and i just have a little question.

I have my left monitor set up as the primary and my desktop is been extended onto the next screen. But the tast bar is not been extended. So if i open a program and drag it accross to the next screem the program will stay in the tast bar in my left screen.. and that is a little anoying for me.

Is there a way i can get the task bar to span 2 screens?

Answer:Dual Monitors

I beleive it will stay that way...atleast is does for me, I never looked into as it wasnt that big of a deal for me...
