Dual Monitors problems ater updating SiSandra and GPU drivers

Question: Dual Monitors problems ater updating SiSandra and GPU drivers

I recently updated my nVidia drivers to the latest and also my SiSandra Lite software (for quick access to accurate specs of my PC). After updating SiSandra Lite, I looked at the GPU section. As usual it loaded the primary monitor first where everything was fine. I then changed to look at my secondary and my primary monitor turned off and my desktop was shifted to my second.

Now when I boot my computer, my primary comes on, but after the pre and post bios. Only when Grub comes on does something appear on my primary monitor, but it's very low resolution (compared to what it used to be). The windows 7 loading bar appears on my primary but before the logo can appear and glow, it swaps to my secondary monitor where it stays.

Windows 7 cannot detect my primary monitor trying both screen resolution detection and it's missing from the devices menu. Really confused about this whole business

I realise this may have been posted as a problem before. I did find little snippets of information about it but nothing sufficient.

Any help or redirecting to places where this problem has been solved would be much appreciated

Thanks

Ben

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

For the last few months I have been using a GeForce 8800 GTS graphics card with two monitors attached. I have nVidia drivers from 3/27/2009 (version 7.15.11.8250 according to device manager) installed. My monitors are configured (through the Windows Display Settings) such that my primary monitor (identified as "1") is to the right of my secondary monitor (identified as "2"). My second monitor also functions as a TV (with its own tuner) and when put into TV mode, it disconnects from the computer. When returning from TV mode, the monitor is again detected by Windows, and my dual monitor setup is restored.

I just downloaded and tried the latest drivers (182.50 5/7/2009) from the nVidia site. I can configure my monitors correctly, but after the second monitor returns from TV mode (which again, disconnects and then reconnects the monitor with the computer) Windows thinks monitor 2 is on the right of monitor 1. I can manually go into the Display Settings and correct this, but the issue returns as soon as my second monitor is disconnected/reconnected (for TV mode).

Nothing else has changed, except the video card drivers, and rolling back the drivers fixes the issue. While it is not necessary for me to upgrade right now, I'm sure I will inevitably need to update the graphics drivers, and would therefore like to get this problem worked out. Any ideas?

Having just upgraded from XP using the Nvidia dual monitor desktops for years, I was surprised to find Windows 7 has this feature in-built with the added bonus of slideshow desktop images C00L!
So beyond Win7 eye candy which is better, Does it come down to games running faster under the Nvidia dual desktops, what is the general preference here?

Answer:Is Nvidia dual monitors a poor cousin to Windows 7 dual monitors?..

afaik, there is no real performance difference, as all stuff is handled by the nvidia driver anyway.

And of course the more monitors the higher performance hit as there is more screen surface to work on (the same as increasing resolution).

Btw, the main pityfall of the multiple monitors is that the taskbar is only in the primary monitor, but there are a ton of good third party programs that can handle this, like Actual Multiple Monitors.

Hello,     I have tried everything to try to make these two monitors color. They are both relatively new Dell monitors. Both are DVI, both are connected to the latest Lenovo bay for my T430 laptop. Both worked fine after I initially installed both video drivers (Intel HD Graphics Driver for Windows 7 [64-bit]) and NVIDIA Optimus Display Driver for Windows 7 [64-bit]). Then out of nowhere one of them (Dell 1) decides it wants to be seen in black and white! I initially thought it was the monitor itself, but when swapping monitors (Dell 1, Dell 2) the other monitor  (Dell 2) went black and white when plugged into the DVI formerly used by the Dell 1 monitor. Ok, so now it must be the DVI ports on the bay station (Lenovo) right? Nope. I had a tech bring me a second, brand new bay (identical). Same issue! So this leads me to the video drivers... Does anyone have any idea. I disabled each driver and reenabled each to no avail. The drivers are the latest drivers downloaded directly from Lenovo's site. Checked the driver settings/monitor setting using both Windows 7 Professional and Nvidia to see if anything stood out. Nothing. Any help would certainly be appreciated. Thank you in advance! :~)

So I decided to try dual monitors, but I'm having a few problems:

1. How do I add my icons to the first monitor while still keeping them on the second? I tried copy/paste, but it doesn't support icons with the same name.

2. I downloaded Ultramon, and it let me add another taskbar, but not the start menu, the icons next to it, and the clock and the icons next to it.

3. How do I make it so games won't minimize when I use the other monitor?

Oh yea, Ultramon only has a 30 day trial period. Is there anyway to do this without it, or are there any other programs?

Answer:Problems with Dual Monitors

When i was running dual monitors the graphics card had 2 ports. The problem with this is that you can only use either the graphics card, or the onboard graphics card. You can't use both at once. Atleast this is what I learned. There could be a way, but never found one.

Hi guys,

First of all, I didn't really know where to put this, so my apologies if I did anything wrong.

I recently found a second monitor just lying around and decided to hook it up to my laptop. It worked fine for about a week but now, after maybe 30 minutes of use the problem occurs;

First of all, both my screens go completely black and the windows error sound plays. After a few seconds my main monitor comes on again and the seconds displays 'No Signal'.
Around 10-20 seconds later, the seconds monitor comes on again, but all the windows have been moved onto my main monitor.
I really don't know what else to say, I'm unsure what the problem is.

Anyway, thanks for any help.

Answer:Problems With Using Dual Monitors.

Check your power settings, some laptops on battery power will disable a second monitor automatically. Also, did you try clicking type mobility center in the search programs and files, and choosing the monitor mode you want under display? You can also press the Windows Key + P to open Display Switch.

You can also check your settings against this tutorial here, and see related tutorials there as well:

I am trying to set up dual monitors on a Dell opteplex 755. and I have a multi monitor card Dell / ATI Radeon X300 128MB PCI-e Graphics Card - 102A2590401installed. When I go to "Display" "Settiings" there is no "Identify Hardware" tab. all is shows is a single monitor, with no options. Both monitors a working fine, but only in unision.

Answer:Dual monitors problems

You should be able to run software from Dell/ATI to set up both monitors; it should have come with your system. If not, go to www.dell.support.com and download it for your particular card. Once that is done and run, make sure and go to Display in Control Panel and ensure that they are placed the way you have them, 1 & 2 or 2 & 1.

I have AIM and when I open a window or recieve an IM it shows up in my primary monitor I drag it to my secondary monitor thou but I was wonderin if there was away to recive IM;s from my second monitor.

Answer:Dual Monitors Problems

A window should reopen in the same spot you closed it. By default any program will open a new window (one it's never opened before) on the primary monitor (hence why it's the primary monitor). If it's not opening on the secondary monitor upon reopening (after having closed it on the secondary monitor) it's because AIM themselves have done something stupid to prevent such functionality.

If you want some help with dual display issues or an app that can help with things like this you should check out ultramon you can find it at www.realtimesoft.com. It's the best dual display app I've ever found and I use it myself all the time.

Ok, this problem is getting really annoying and I think its a problem with windows 7 itself and not my computer.

Basically I have a dual monitor setup with the left hand monitor as my secondary and right hand monitor as my primary.  Whenever I have an application with any graphics on it at all such as a progress bar on my left hand monitor moving windows around becomes laggy and juddery, yet this doesn't happen when the graphical app is on my primary monitor!

I have a dual monitor setup on my pc. Gforce4 440 128mb agp card and an ATI rage 128 pro pci. My problem is that when i am playing media ie music, video etc. i get distorted sound when i open, close, maximize, move any window on the monitor that is on the ati rage card. I remove the card and the sound distortion goes away. I have moved the monitors around, i have updated drivers for EVERYthing in this mess. I have an ECS mobo k7s5a with sis7012 integrated sound. cannot find ANY references for this type of problem. The only thing i haven't done is tried another pci card to replace the ATI. I would just like to know why there is distortion.

THanks in advance!

I just installed Vista Business and get the same exact image on both of my monitors. How do I change it so that the displays are independent? Do I need to download the ATI drivers instead of using the ones built into Vista? Thanks in advance. So far, Vista looks pretty slick.

I'm not on my Vista machine right now, and I can't remember the exact vernacular but it's in Display Properties. Highlight your secondary display, and then select the option to "stretch" (or something like that) the desktop onto the secondary display.

Hello,

As the title states, I'm having some issues with having all three devices connected to my video at the same time. My card has a vga, dvi, and s-video slot. I have a lcd monitor connected to the vga connector, a crt monitor connected to the dvi port through a dvi to vga adapter, and I just recently bought an s-video cord to hook up to my tv which also takes s-video.

It seems that I can't have all three connected at the same time because when I restarted so that the tv could be detected, my system kept making weird noises and displaying some message on a black screen before windows loaded, but I couldn't see what it said since the comp. restarts before I can read it. As soon as I unplugged the s-video cable the comp. started up normally. I think I read somewhere that nvidia cards can only have two displays active at once, but my main question is: Is there a way to switch between using my lcd and crt monitor and using my lcd and tv without screwing up settings?

Sorry for rambling and the long explanation, any advice or sources of advices would be much appreciated!

P.S. another side issue I had was that when I got the display working on the tv, the tv would not show the entire window, like part of it was cut off from the top, i tried messing with the resolutions but it didn't work, is there any way to make it so that a window will maximize properly on the tv.

I am having a nagging problem with getting the 2nd monitor in my dual monitor setup to start properly when doing a Windows restart (only). The appearance is blue and very faded. It looks like a CRT where the red and green guns are not working. I can faintly see the information being displayed but it's hard to view. This problem does not happen when I do a complete turnoff and boot my computer fresh as everything works perfectly.

What happens differently during a restart vs a fresh start?

I am using a GeForce2 MX/MX400 NVidia compatable video card from gainwardusa.com and am running Windows XP Pro with SP2.

I have contacted gainwardusa and have been sent several different drivers in an attempt to solve my problem but thus far, I have been unable to care for this issue.

One other point......when the pc recovers from standby or hibernation, everything comes back working properly.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi There everyone!

This is a new build. Please check the spec's for this machine.

My default OS is Win 7 Ultimate 64 Bit. When I am using this OS all Is good with my monitors. My left screen is my primary screen and has the start button and all my short-cut icons on it which is the way I would like it to be in all three Os'. I can open many panes and move them back and forth to any screen I want.

When I restart the system to enter into Win Vista Home premium My Right screen is the primary screen and I cannot move any panes into the left screen and i cannot move the cursor into the left screen.

When I open the device manager in this OS there are no problems showing in either the display adapters or the monitor criteria.

I have tried correcting the problem in both the windows control panel in displays and also in the Nvidia control panel and I can't seem to solve this problem.
What do i need to do to get my left monitor to be my primary screen and to move window panes from left to right and vice versa.

Not sure but I think this is a driver issue.

Thank you for your help.

Answer:Problems With Dual-Monitors in a Multi-Boot System

Hi ranger, welcome to VF, it is a bit of a problem, I assume you've updated your drivers from Nvidia's site? I've not come across a problem like this for a while, but it does sound like Nvidia's drivers at fault, have you tried switching the dvi ports around, might fix it, and have you also tried reverting back to WDDM drivers and see if it is Nvidia's fault? I often find also that when you try and adjust a setting on nvidia control panel, you need to set the resolution to low to get results, however that may just be me :-)

HI. I have a Samsung HD monitor and a VGA SuncMaster Samsung monitor. The HD monitor is what I use on my desktop all the time. I am wanting to have dual monitors to use on occasion and use both these at the same time with a mirror image. The graphic card ATI Radeon HD 5450 has a place for my HD and VGA slots. Win 7 recognizes both monitors, BUT my HD monitors resolution is not HD anymore but the VGA monitor is good.

How do I get the settings to be the same as it is on my HD monitor and then display the mirror image to the VGA monitor????

Thanks so much, Tammy

Answer:ATI Radeon HD 5450 Dual Monitors HDMI & VGA Resolution Problems

Are you sure what you want is to DUPLICATE the contents of both monitors (referred to as "clone mode")? You want to show the identical desktop content on both monitors identically and simultaneously?

Or do you want to EXTEND the Windows desktop to run horizontally across both monitors, so that your Windows desktop is pretty much "double wide"? This allows you to drag windows onto one or the other monitor, and open up independent program windows on either monitor to meet your needs (e.g. to look at two open program windows independently presented on each of your monitors).

If you run the dual-monitor setup in EXTEND mode (with one of the monitors called "primary" monitor for Windows and the other monitor known as the "extend/secondary" monitor) then each monitor can be configured to run at its own native/optimal resolution, independent of what the other is configured at. So if you have a CRT (typically 4:3 or so) it can run at say 1280x1024 or 1600x1200 or 1440x900 or something like that, while your flatscreen/TV (typically 16x9 or 16x10) can run at say 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 or 1680x1050 or something like that. So you'd get FULL use of both monitors at their native/optimal resolutions, and maximum width of the effective combined Windows desktop.

If instead you do really want to run the two monitors in "clone mode", then you only have a Windows desktop that is the smaller of the two monitors. And you will be running the... Read more

We know nothing about your computer, so do the following in it:

Download and save the TSG System Information Utility (SysInfo.exe) to the desktop.
After it's been downloaded and saved, double-click it to run it.
Information about your computer will appear.
Return here to your thread, then copy-and-paste the ENTIRE text here.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Unless a computer's device isn't working properly or not working at all, there's no compelling reason to update its driver.
And if you don't know how to install a driver, or if you install the wrong driver, you can make the problem even worse.

Answer:Problems after updating drivers

Your gateway is your router...on some systems, it appears as a connection, on others it will not reflect. On this system, it shows. On one of my previous systems, it did not show.

The SM Bus driver is normally affiliated with Intel CPUs and should be included in chipset drivers.

Ok, first post here so dont smack me down too hard if I step on a forum rule or 2. First Ill give you all the specs I can recall about my comp.

Windows XP SP2
AMD 64 3200+
Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9 nForce4 4X chipset
Palit Geforce 6200 PCI-e 256mb video card
1k pc3200 ram (dont recall manufacturer)
Creative Soundblaster
I put this computer together myself from the pieces. I installed the drivers for the geforce that came with the card on a CD. Version 61.74 if i recall correctly. I have tried to update those drivers with several diffrent driver sets since then. I downloaded the newest drivers from Nvidia, downloaded the ones from the card manufacturer site and even tried some forceware ones from 3dguru. Everytime I install them the computer will reboot as normal and when it gets to loading in windows it slows to a frame by frame show. THe monitor will click and reset and continue to do so over and over. I have tried uninstalling the old drivers first, that didnt work. Tried installing over the old drivers, tried sevreal diffrent drivers versions and all do the same thing. I flashed my bios up to latest version and updated the nforce chipset driver. I am at a total loss on how to fix this. If anyone needs any further info or has any suggestions I would be grateful.

Now CP is slower, & DVD/RW still not playing DVD's. Should I just do a system restore, or should I now look into all drivers for updates. My O/S is WinXP Pro. Any help is appreciated.

I have a Gigabyte GA-K8NXP-SLI motherboard with two NVidia 6600GT OC PCI express video cards. I wanted to update my drivers so I downloaded the new Nvidia drivers then uninstalled the old but now when I boot up my system it tries to install drivers for PCI Memory Controller and SM Bus controller but it says can't find it. Also when I go into the device manager and go down to other devices it has a question mark by Other PCI bridge device, PCI memory controller, and SM Bus controller. Can anyone please help me fix my screw up?

I downloaded what I think is the latest driver for my S3 ProSavage KM133 onboard graphics. I extracted the zip file and ran the setup.exe. An error message told me that no S3 adapter was detected. I then tried update driver from Control Panel, System, Device Manager, Display Adapters, S3 ProSavage KL/KM and browsed to the directory containing the *.inf file. I clicked OK and got the message, "Windows was unable to locate an updated driver for this device." Does that mean I already have the latest driver installed or am I doing something wrong? The archive extracted to the following folders:WIN98/ME\-- RAW-- Setup----Setup\Setupdir\ with many subdirectoriesThe file KPLEW9X.INF is in the RAW directory which is the one I browsed to, to locate the driver. Where do I go from here?

Answer:Problems updating graphics drivers

go to device manager and look at the graphics adaptor and see what type is shown, and also the driver version, should be able to see this by clicking on properties and the driver tab if my memory serves me correctly.

Hi,My setup includes dual monitors with a T61 in port replicator  and a Dell 24" monitor positioned above.  While I can achieve this setup by manually dragging the external monitor above the laptop each time I dock, I cannot get the Presentation Director to capture this position accurately.  It will capture the setup, but reverts to horizontal monitors with left/right mouse whenever the captured profile is used.   [With my old T43 in the same setup, I was able to get the monitor positions memorized correctly. ] Does anyone have a solution?  I've checked the Control Panel--> Display settings and the NVIDIA Control panel.  The control panel allows me to set up the external monitor as per above, but I haven't found any control to ensure the settings "stick".

Answer:Dual Monitors / Cannot capture vertical monitors (mouse up /down vs left /right)

Additional Note:  I've also tried creating a new profile in the Presentation Director with the selection for "External Monitor positioned above laptop", but that does not work as it will not recognize the external monitor resolution of 1900x1280, and thus will not allow me to finish the profile.

Hi. I recently reinstalled windows on my laptop and I am having two problems.

Firstly is the graphics drivers. The laptop includes a NVIDIA GT555M graphics card and has a disk with driver software for the 280.26 drivers. I am finding it impossible to update to the 320.49 drivers. I have downloaded and run the installed from the NVIDIA website for the correct graphics card and it runs the system compatibility check fine, but after I click accept on the lisence agreement the window abruptly shuts down and the drivers are not installed.

My second problem is with the USB3 ports. I have installed the drivers both from the clevo website and from the disc provided with my system but the ports are in a state where they provide power but no data connection (My mouse will light up but not actually work as a mouse, my external hard drive/usb stick will power on but cannot be accessed etc). I have an ATI All-In-Wonder Radeon 9600 video card. It's been working properly for quite awhile and now suddenly the cursor moves to the second monitor when I drag the cursor beyond the bottom of the first monitor.

It used to go from one monitor to the other by dragging it from left-to-right. I can't figure out what caused it to start doing this or how to go about getting it back to the way it was before. Any ideas how to change it back. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you!

Hi! I just upgraded to Win8 this weekend and so far I really like it. I discovered something this morning that now that the weekend is over is bugging the crap out of me and I need help. I work from home and use this alot so it would be helpful.

I am trying to do a couple things I could easily do in 7,
- have Chrome open in both monitors at once with different things on them.
- currently Chrome has no minimize/maximize buttons on the upper right like it used to. Makes it very hard to multitask.

I have 2 monitors, the main is a 23" touch screen and the second is an 18" non-touch screen.

Also, is there a way to have the taskbar to appear at the bottom always like it used to?

Thanks! I really appreciate the help!

Answer:Windows 8 Dual Monitors, need help having browser open in both monitors

Answered my own question. Google Chrome was showing in App mode. When I downloaded Chrome for 8 there is an option to have it show in desktop mode and the taskbar, minimize/maximize, and multi window option came back. YAY.

Now if someone could tell me why windows 8 won't fill the screen at the resolution recommended for my 23" monitor I'd be good!

So I just ordered an 8800gts to replace my 7800gts in Vista x64. I was wondering if keeping it and running my secondary monitor off of it would alleviate the stress aero puts on the video card when running dual monitors and gaming and increase my performance. Would I be better off keeping the 7800gts for the second monitor? Is this even possible?

Answer:Dual Video cards, dual monitors, and Vista game performance

It is certainly possible, you can use both cards at the same time, assuming your mob supports it.

I doubt if you'll see a huge increase in gaming performance, as aero essentially shuts itself off when needed (gaming), but it won't hurt anything either.

what i can't find is how to use 2 monitors with 2 cards. do i remove the crossfirex bridges and connect one monitor per card, or do i keep the crossfirex bridges and connect both monitors to the first card, still running crossfirex?

I would just connect the 2 monitors to the one card and then extend the desktop using either desktop properties or Catalyst control center.

Parity checking provides single-bit error detection for the system memory, but does not handle multi-bit errors, and does not correct memory errors. An advanced error detection and correction protocol was therefore invented . Called ECC, which stands for error correcting circuits or error correction code, this protocol not only detects both single-bit and multi-bit errors but will correct single-bit errors.

You have on-board video rather than a separate card. Don't worry about it.

No not a big deal it's just that the high the refresh rate the better in general.

As the title said. I want to upgrade to Windows 10 but my driver is still in Windows 8.1 version. Should I update the drivers first to Windows 10 version and then proceed with Windows 10 installation? Or should I just go with Windows 10 installation and updating my driver later on after finishing Windows 10 installation?
Btw, using Lenovo Y50, Windows 8.1
Thanks for help ! :)

Answer:Updating drivers first or updating to Windows 10 then drivers after that?

You update Windows first.
In most cases you won't have to update drivers at all, as Windows can usually update most of them automatically on its own.

I would then like to open my Excel Workbook that has 2 sheets. One sheet is constant data input into various columns using my laptop. In the second sheet, I have formulas which constantly updates the data within a formatted table that I would like displayed onto the external monitor.

My project is to hook the laptop monitor into an overhead flat screen tv using HDMI cable. Then, while sitting in a corner with my laptop entering data, the results would be constantly updated for the audience to see.

Answer:dual monitors / dual programs set up

Hello dunna, welcome to Sevenforums

With a laptop, (assuming you have an HDMI port), it shouldn't be too difficult. However, laptops are different. For example, mine, you plug in the secondary monitor, and there is a function key (Fn) that you press, and the corresponding key to change the output mode (for me, it is F1). It should let you choose how you want to display to the monitor. Test it out yourself to see, but if you can't find it, let us know. It helps if you provide the laptop type, so we can tell you the keys exactly

I now have two monitors set up on my computer. One is using the VGA output, and the other is plugged into a DVI to VGA convertor in the DVI port. I have a Radeon 9600 Pro video card and am running Windows XP Home.

What I want is to extend my taskbar across onto the second monitor. Even better than that would be to have a second, independant taskbar which displays only programs open on the second screen. The first screen's taskbar would show programs open and displayed on the first monitor.

Any ideas?

Answer:Dual Monitors, dual Taskbars?

Guess what I found?

Exactly what I was looking for

Actually, not exactly. I was hoping for a native Windows solution that doesn't require running another program to get the second taskbar.

I'll clarify my question: Is there a way to get a second taskbar on a second monitor using options or features found in Windows XP? Failing that, does anyone have any favourite programs they'd like to suggest?

Recently I have decided to update the USB 3.0 drivers on my MSI Z97 PC MATE motherboard as it turned out that they weren't installed, and because I bought a USB 3.0 memory stick. When I just got this motherboard I didn't install them as after doing so I got a BSOD and had to do a system restore. Now that I've seen that a newer version is available, I decided to update along side my BIOS and other drivers. The updates went find with no problems, and the USB 3.0 ports are working great.

However, every time I start up my PC there's like a 10 second delay before I can use anything connected to the USB ports, which is rather annoying as some of my programs rely on some of the USB devices to be connected at startup, so I have to configure them one by one manually after startup. What has also happened is that the desktop icon positions aren't saving, and nor is the position/size of windows.

I'm thinking that it may have also been something to do with the registry as I cleaned it with CCleaner (not a good idea, it broke my Chrome updates a while ago). Can anyone please help? I'm really out of options and this is really annoying me. So far I tried to make it so that all of the USB related services are run automatically on startup, I tried restoring the old registry... Perhaps there's a way to fix it? Any help is appreciated!

Should I be looking for a dual head card, or would the system be able to utilize the internal card at the same time?

Question: Dual Monitors

Well, problem solved by NOT USING the Nvidia control panel, just the plane jane windows controls work fine, they see the seperate monitor as not capable as the NEC's resolution, allow me do dial it down to an appropriate rez and keep the NEC nice and sharp. Go figure, would have thought that the card's control panel software would be better than Windows, but no. Solved.

I just built a PC, which I have done before several times, including a PC back 5 years ago with dual monitors - in which I did not have the problem I am having now.

I have a good new Nvidia 256mb card with both DVI and standard outputs. I am trying to use my old 15" monitor with a nice professional NEC monitor (nice one on the DVI). The secondary monitor I want to be a place for pallets in photoshop or just to keep a web browser open. I.E. it doesn't have to be fancy, just functional. The problem, however is the the Nvidia control panel really reduces the resolution of my primary monitor significantly when I try to use the 2nd monitor. Both the aspect ratio and all-over resolution are "ruined" on the good NEC. I was told that this would not occur by the salesperson on this card, that it was capable of handling 2 high-res monitors. When mixing my good and the old monitor, however, it seems to be defaulting to the lower res monitor (even when I make the good NEC the primary screen).

My video card has 2 outputs, so i can (have) two dual monitors right now.

I guess this is a simple question folks, but I would like to use a dual monitor system on my PC, as I have a spare monitor.

During my days work, I am planning to use one monitor, for example running MS Excel as a database and the other MS Word.

If I am using my only keyboard for Excel how can I switch to Word and start typing in Word?

Would it be just a simple question of moving my mouse over to the other program and type?

Question: Dual Monitors...??

Hey everyone, got a quick curious question here.

I am fascinated by the idea of having dual monitors on my desk. I really want the extra workspace. However, I have a few uncertainties about how it works.

I know the obvious thing: dual monitors give you more workspace on your desktop.

Is it just like an extended desktop where you drag things over to the other monitor for more workspace? In what way is the extra desktop workspace achieved?

Of course I would not come asking without doing my own research...
Several Google results and many pictures are all I have at the moment, which still does not tell me much about the details i seek.

From HERE it states that:

the "exended" or "independent displays" mode and the "spanning" or "streched" display mode. In both these modes, display devices are positioned next to each other in order to create the illusion that the two displays are logically contiguous.Click to expand...

Which basically means the monitors are side-by-side, which is what I want. It then explains more about different ways of using two monitors:

In "extended" mode additional desktop area is created on additional monitors. Each monitor can use different settings (resolution, color, refresh rate).

Alternately, some video cards are able to "span" the existing desktop area across two monitors rather than create additional desktop space. This is accomplished by using a widescreen res... Read more

Answer:Dual Monitors...??

There are basically 3 ways that things can happen, and it may vary on what they are called by the brand of the video chipset.

You can have them be exactly the same, meaning everything you see on monitor 1 is also identically displayed on monitor 2. This is pretty worthless unless you are doing color comparisons between the 2.

Another way is to have a HUGE start bar which spans over both screens, you can drag between 1 screen and the other, its effectively 1 big monitor. This way is better than the first one for obvious reasons, but its still not very good. Messages boxes often pop up right in the middle, so its split between 2 monitors not much good.

The 3rd way is to have 1 monitor be the primary and will house the start bar, then the second monitor is just an extention, but behaves independently. You can still drag windows between both. This is in my opinion the ideal setup.

Try not to make this more complex than necessary, its a pretty simple set of senarios.

Edit: Here is a shot of how mine is setup, I have a quicklaunch like bar set to autohide on the far right I forgot to have pop out for the screenshot.

Question: Dual Monitors

I Have an HP Pavillion dv9000 laptop with the xb3000 dock station. I'm running XP pro SP3 (legit but aftermarket). I plugged in my Fuji monitor (which is working). The problem is both monitors show the same thing. I want to run an expanded desktop. I tried to go through the control panel display tab but I do not have the dual monitor choices i would prefer. If it helps, on settings I only have 2 options, 800x600 and 1024x768. Do I need a special driver or update?

Question: dual monitors

Ok...I have a Radeon 9600XT with the vga and dvi out. What i want to do is hook my regular monitor up to the vga out and hook my big screen HDTV up to my DVI out. My tv has a dvi in as well so no need for adapters, just a straight up dvi-d cable. Most of the time i will just be using my regular monitor, but every now and again i would like to switch to the tv on command. So i got it all hooked up, but it seems like both displays are being picked up as primary monitors/displays which causes problems because i need the tv at a lower resolution than my regular monitor and if i switch in between the two all my display settings are the same for both. I want to be able to set it where the display settings stay unique to each of the displays. Is this possible? I have all the latest ATI drivers and it seems possible to me, but i've been just having a tough time with it. If anyone could please walk me through this it would greatly be appreciated. Thanks, Correy.

Aloha,
I don't know if this will help but I have a ATI All-In-Wonder 9800 video card using XP Pro as OS but here goes. According to my manual, it says to click on Monitor (display)in your control panel and then click on settings. Click on the advanced button and then click on Displays. Click on monitor or TV to set your settings. I don't know if your Radeon menu is the same as the ATI's but I would think it should be similar. I only have my card going to the monitor and not to the TV so I don't know if this will work for you. Hope this helps. TIA

Question: Dual Monitors

Or should I say "dueling monitors". They seem to be competing. The problem is the screen resolution on the 32" flat screen TV. I can't get it to cover the whole screen. I had a similar set-up with a 22" monitor and a 40" TV and every thing was fine. Now I have a new set-up, a 22" monitor and a 32" TV. I went into the control panel, adjust screen resolution and tried to get it set up but it's not working. I have tried it in "Extend these displays" which shows a different resolution for each monitor but the TV still doesn't have the screen filled. I tried in "Duplicate these displays" and it's the same thing. I can understand it wouldn't work in this mode because it shows only one resolution. My video card is a XFX1-PL. I have the monitor hooked up by DVI and the TV by HDMI, that's how my other set up was too. I think I might have had the same video card.

Question: Dual Monitors...

So I just set up my dual monitor display on my new rig running Vista 32 bit, and my right, extended monitor goes out. When I turn it off and back on it starts up, stays lit for like 20 seconds then goes black again. They green light stays lit. I had a funny power cable connected to it, so I decided to swap for a known good cable. Still giving me the problem...

Im gonna swap monitors and see if it still happens...

Any ideas? Possibly bad monitor?

Answer:Dual Monitors...

Check that the monitor can handle the refresh rate.

Question: Dual-monitors

Yeah I got 2 questions to ask about the dual monitors, I have it all set up but whenever I play videos on my main screen, it makes my 2nd screen play the video maximized which looks bad anyway because my main is a wide screen, 2nd is reg. I don't want it to full screen on my 2nd monitor, and also, whenever I play a full screen game, I move to the other monitor and click on something like an internet browser it minimizes my game on the main screen, how do I get it to just open it on my 2nd screen and keep my game up on the main screen?

Answer:dual monitors

Are you sure these are dual outputs, and not alternatives - most cards I have seen like this are altenative outputs - ie one or the other - not both.

I run 2 monitors on a QuadroFX 4600. An HP 30" is primary and a Viewsonic 21" is secondary. This has worked fine for over a year. As of today, if I set the resolution of the ViewSonic to less than 1600 x 1200, the picture on the Viewsonic is shifted extremely far to the right, leaving a large gap in the extended desktop. I reset all of the basic params of the monitors in Control Panel and Display Properties, but no fix. This was working fine just 2 days ago!
Anyone know of a fix?
Thanks.

Answer:Gap between dual monitors

For LCD's there should be an auto or adjust button
on the monitor.
Otherwise, check the menu on the monitor for postion controls.

Question: M58 Dual Monitors

Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 3470+ an Onboard video card.  I am trying to do a dual monitor setup, but every time I enable one of the video cards, the other one gets disabled...making it impossible to have two running at once.I've used the bios settings automatic, PEG, and the internal card setting (can't remember what it's called in the bios) Any help or advice?Message Edited by mangler108 on 07-15-2009 11:20 AM

Answer:M58 Dual Monitors

the problem is that lenovo sysboards are deciding by trigger signal, which graphic port is powered off (auto/auto). Why do you like to use the internal graphics and waste system performance? you should be able to run both screens on your ATI. The card should be able to provide analogue signals too, if you like to use an analogue one for secondary, you could use a standard DVI-Adaptre.

Firstly i would like to inform that my primary monitor is a 27" samsung syncmaster, my secondary screen is a 19" philips ( not sure what model, but it has a working hdmi input) and my graphic card is a Geforce GTX 660ti. i have an Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3770K CPU @ 3.50GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.5GHz Processor, and msi z77a main board. (Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit)

my question is; how do i connect my second screen ? i can see two hdmi inputs im my computer, one is on the Gtx, and the second one is on the main board. the one that connects to my primary screen is the one that is connected to the GTX, and there is my problem, the one that is connected to the main board is not working. how do i fix this? is it just like that, or is it something in the settings i have to mess about in? . Thank you for your help and understanding!

Well, you'll have one monitor connected via the HDMI, and another via the VGA. If the monitor(s) you get don't have either of those connections, there are converters for what you need.
