Laptop speakers working, but headphone jack not working only on Window

Question: Laptop speakers working, but headphone jack not working only on Window

Hi,

I have a dual boot of Fedora and Windows, and when I boot into Fedora, my headphones work fine. When I boot into Windows 7 64bit, my headphones don't work. My laptop speakers work fine however, and I tried re-installing drivers. I made sure that my headphones are the default playback device, and I only have one headphone jack.

Other people who had this issue solved it by replacing their audio jack, but for me that is not a problem because the audio jack works fine when I boot into Fedora.

Please help!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Laptop speakers working, but headphone jack not working only on Window

Normally, the "Speakers" (PC sound) is set as the Default Playback device and not Headphones. In fact, newer RealTek sound systems do not even show the Headphones when plugged in.

Are you using the correct sound drivers? Not the generic Windows installed High Definition Audio Codec.

What all is listed in the Device Manager, Sound section?

Hi,

I have an Hp625 running Windows 7 Basic 32 bit - I can play music through my laptops built in speakers without any problems, but when I plug headphones (or external computer speakers) into the headphone jack no sound comes through them (and simultaneously the laptop speakers go mute). My computer is dual boot with ubuntu, and this problem appeared when I upgraded my Ubuntu version - still, I know that the jack works as it is working fine in Ubuntu, and Im sure the problem is fixable within windows!

I have tried for HOURS to fix this problem, and attempted everything obvious, plus read many threads on similar topics. Please help. My computer is using the IDT audio control panel, and according to windows everything us up to date and fine. BUT ITS NOT PLEASE HELP.

Answer:My laptop speakers are working fine, but the headphone jack is not!

Are you experiencing the problem in windows or in ubuntu? Have you installed the sound driver for ubuntu when you upgraded your version of ubuntu. Have you updated the sound driver for windows?

I do not recieve any sound from my laptop. The only device that's enabled is the Digital Audio (S/PDIF), there is no speakers device/icon available for me to select. No sound comes if I play anything with out headphones, and with headphones, still no sound.

Answer:Sound not working, speakers and headphone jack.

Hi graffar and welcome to TSG. Whats the make and model of your laptop? Go into device manager and see if there are any exclamation marks in the sound devices. Let us know. Right click the start orb \ Properties \ taskbar tab \Notification area \ Customize. Make sure Volume is set for "Show Icon and Notifications" Check and see if the sound isn't muted in the control panel.

That happened some weeks ago, no software or hardware changes were made prior to speakers gone mute. The other day however speakers were back from malfunction and operative again 100% - for no apparent reason, but as soon i plugged headphone jack in and out - they were gone again!?!? Is there a catch or something that i'm doing wrong!?!? I've tried: removing and reinstalling sound card drivers (no success), different OS (no success), checked headphone jack for foreign objects (found nothing, it looks ok in comparison to other jack (microphone)). No warranty on this machine (expired). Any suggestions??? Thanks in advance.

Do you have another set of headphones you could try as these may be the problem not the headphone jack? Also, do the headphones still work with an mp3 player?

Recently, while playing unreal tournament, I realize there was no sound coming out of the speaker once I unplugged my headphones. I restarted thinking that it would fix the problem, but that didn't help, so I decided to uninstall and reinstall the sound driver from realtek, no good either. Finally I deicided to reformat my computer using the recovery partition. Reassuring myself that this will definitely solve the problem I was shock and confuse as to why no sound came out of the speaker after the recovery. After going to the Realtek sound control panel I realize that the computer thinks or detected that a headphone was plugged in when clearly it wasn't. The sound does work with the headphone in and I am sure the speaker is not damaged because the POST sound, "boommmmm", comes during bootup. I really don't understand what is going on, and I already reformatted the harddrive 2 times.

I have read that the problem can be temporarily solve by replacing the motherboard, but after about a week or two, the same problem will arise. I have also read that other brands including HP, DELL and Sony has similar problems.

I can live without the speakers but I am not sure if further problems will persist with this laptop, since its only been month that I have purchased it.

Thanks for many reply/help.

Answer:Asus G1S speakers not working (stuck in headphone jack mode)

Just some real quick ideas

Speakers plugged into power outlet and on
Speakers plugged into back jack securely
(actually if you heard the startup booom sound, then they must be)

Sound volume up on speaker
Sound volume up on Windows
Sound volume up in the game that you are using
(That might be it)

If you play a song (through Windows media player) can you hear it ?
If so this must be an in game setting (ie mute sound) Please check all settings in the game.

My Dell inspiron 3542 laptop speakers are not working, but 3.5 mm jack is working fine.
Please help me out.

Answer:My Dell inspiron 3542 laptop speakers are not working, but 3.5 mm jack is working fine.

Hello. The problem could be either in the hardware or the software, so you need to test each. Perform the tests below -- it doesn't matter which one you do first.

To test the speakers, perform the Quick Audio Check in the ePSA test. If the speakers fail the test then they have failed or become disconnected. (Click the link for instructions on how to run the test.)

To test the software, switch between the Realtek audio driver and the Windows native driver. [This test assumes that your laptop has the Realtek audio driver. If you get to step 2 and do not see "Realtek High Definition Audio" then go to the Dell support page for your model and download the Realtek driver that Dell provides for the version of Windows that the laptop is running.]
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted,... Read more

Have been having this problem for a while now.

Every so often, the headhphone jack on my laptop just stops working after hours and hours of the laptop being on.

The built-in speakers of the laptop work fine. What happens is that while the computer is in use (after some random amount of time), any hardware plugged into the headphone jack of the laptop will not playback sound. This includes headphones, speakers and the like. The sound device manager in control panel shows sound being output, and if the headphones/speakers are disconnected, the audio plays fine on the built-in speakers on the laptop.

I haven't been able to figure out what exactly causes this problem. I have tried resinstalling the driver several times. I am 100% sure it isn't the headphones of the speakers that I use as I use these speakers and headphones on many other devices (phone, tablet etc.)

The only way that this issue gets fixed is if the computer is shut down and then rebooted (a restart doesn't work, the computer has to literally lose power for the problem to be fixed).

It seems very intermittent and I'm not sure how to approach this problem

Any ideas?

Answer:Headphone Jack on Laptop Stops Working Until Laptop is Powered Off

One idea would be a look the power plan in use. If you are running with the default Balanced power plan you may be seeing that nterfere by conserving battery power temporarily turning the audio off being a constant drain. Another thought could be a result of the onboard audio chip itself getting too warm where the hardware protection circuit will then come in and deactivate all sound. That is usually seen as far as the cpu temp as well as other major components. The audio being onboard would also be monitored by the bios not so much by Windows.

The other possible cause of losing sound would be the headphone jack or the board end having a cold solder point getting warm and expanding just enough to break the connection until cooled off. The complete shutdown of power would tend to suggest a temp or regulation issue where either the power plan or temp monitoring would have to be watched. And one more thing would be setting the laptop on a fan cooled stand or effective notebook cooling pad to draw heat away from the unit if you are not already using one. Laptops are known to get quite warm with extended use since everything is packed into a tight space with the typical serious lack of air flow unlike the usual desktop with front, rear, and side or top case fans in use if not water cooled.

You have some things to consider in the list of things there. Increased overall cooling, not planning to use the laptop for extended periods of time which can allow for something to overheat i... Read more

A couple weeks ago I called up Lenovo because my screen turned red one day. They sent me a box, I sent my laptop back in, and I received it yesterday. Everything is working fine, they even repaired stuff I didn't ask for (my mouse was clicking weirdly, and the case was even cracked at a spot, so they replaced the entire thing). I was extremely surprised by the service, I wasn't expecting Lenovo to do such a great job. However, I realized this morning that the headphone and mic jack to the right of the computer don't work. The USB slot next to it doesn't work as well.I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers to no avail. I really don't want to have to send this one back too, so any suggestions would be great.

Answer:Headphone jack not working after receiving laptop back from repair (Y580)

I've taken a look at the Hardware Maintenance Manual and it looks to me as though the mic, headphone and neighbouring USB ports are all situated on a separate sub-board which is connected to the mainboard by a flatband cable.  As none of the ports are working my guess would be that the cable connection is probably cause.

To get to the cable you have to remove the complete upper case and a couple of other parts, (see manual pdf P.51), which may not be that straight forward if you're not used to taking notebooks apart.  Doing so would also probably invalidate your warranty.

The safest bet is certainly to call up service and arrange to send it in again, sorry.

Hi.

I've recently bought a laptop online with no OS installed on it. I've installed Windows 7 Ultimate Edition and downloaded all drivers from the manufactures website. Everything works fine except there is no audio coming through the headphone jack or built-in speakers. I have spent majority of today looking online for answers on how to fix this issue and have found nothing that works.

The laptop model is a HP Pavillion dv6-1007tx.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: When I plug in a HDMI cable to the laptop, sound comes through my TV.

I usually listen to music with speakers through the headphone jack. When I unplug the speakers, the music plays through the stock laptop speakers like it is supposed to do.

However, all of a sudden, the sound has only worked through these external speakers. It plays fine through the headphone jack, but when I unplug the speakers, the laptop speakers do not work.

I have restored the computer to an earlier point that I know they were working, but still nothing.

The laptop is a Dell Inspiron E1705.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, first post. Hope it's in the right place.

I'm in need of new speakers for my laptop as the old ones have gone kaput. I have a pair or analogue (red&white,+/-) speakers sat in the cupboard. (Technics SB-F950) What is the name of the adapter I would need if I could use these in some way for my laptop? ... or any other 3.5mm jack for that matter.

I have something similar to this

plug it into the headphone jack and you have sound.

Actually, this is my model

It has a popup and also can be charged through a USB port.

Like the headline says, I have a problem with sound on my Toshiba laptop (model is Satellite L755-S5110). Sound just randomly switches to headphones, even though they aren't connected. The sound just stops playing from the speakers, and when I plug in headphones, it plays normaly through headphones, and works fine while using them, but when I unplug headphones, the sound then plays from speakers for some time and then again just stops on its own and if I plug headphones again, it plays through them.
First, I thought it was some driver issue with win 10, so I did clean install of windows 7 (it was first installed when I bought my laptop), then again installed all the required drivers from the toshiba site (I checked in the device manager couple of times if all audio drivers were up to date, tried reinstalling/installing again), and the exact same problem remained. I also tried reinstalling audio driver provided from toshiba site, and used microsoft audio driver, and again the same problem.
Also, for example, when the sound stops playing from speakers, i just open Playback devices (where my default speakers device is listed), and the sound starts playing again through speakers (didnt change anything there, just opened it...)
I'd really appreciate if someone could help me with this issue, since I've already tried everything I could think of, and none worked yet.
I'm also not really good with computers, so if you have any possible solutions, please let the instructions be... Read more

I had to have the hard drive replaced in my computer due to a defect in the drive. Ever since the hard drive was replaced, the head phone plug-in that is on the face of the tower does not work, but the speaker plug-in that is located in the back of the tower, works just fine.

I cannot figure out what is wrong. The audio driver installed for my system was obtained from the Dell website along with the majority of my other drivers.

Thanks for posting and Welcome to Lenovo Community,

the machine has combo audio jack ,which is 1 socket for the speakers and the microphone
you need to buy a new headphone with combo audio jack or get an adapter to fix this issue

let me know if that fix the issue or not

If I jiggle the headphone jack it will shut off the latop speakers.  Tried other headphones same result, so problem is in the jack ( worn out, poor solder connections, etc?)  So I ordered a replacement jack from ebay it looks somewhat the same, but really won't know until I open the computer up.  My question has anyone replaced this headphone jack on this model?  Is it soldered in?  If so how did you replace it?  the one I purchased doesn't look like the leads on the replacement jack go beyond the jack itself.
Thanks

im running an 8 month old toshiba with vista and realtek audio with updated drivers. surround sound speakers bought in iraq were used on audio output for about a week... then the speakers started acting funny, like with one speaker and one headphone working when headphones were plugged in. then the internal speakers squealed loudly whenever the computer was powered. had to take the speakers out just to get them to stop, and now audio output does not work at all. computer tests both devices as working properly, and drivers are updated.

Method A:
1.  Go to the Control Panel by right click the bottom left corner in "Desktop" mode.
2.  Search for "Realtek HD Audio Manager".
3.  Set the headphone as communication device (see image below).

Also please let me know if you can hear also the sound from the headphone itself

few months ago jack started acting up, but i found that changing the volume fixed the issue,- when i plugged in headphones, it would only play thru one side, i turned up the volume and it would start playing out of both, then turn volume back down and continue.
although for a few days now, this fix is no longer working, and the pc is playing audio out of side of my headphones
Also if i wiggle the the headphones jack inside the pc it somtimes will play properly for a split second then go back to playing on one side.
-NOTE- headphones r not the issue- they work fine on my phone- audio technica ath m50x
pretty sure its a hardware issue
tried cleaning out dust with some small brushes didnt work.

I do apologize to say but it sounds like you have gone through all the troubleshooting I could recommend witout having the system sent in for repair. If the jack is not working when you connect your headphones and they do not show up in the Playback tab, then I would recommend contacting technical support in your region for repair options.

Tried to reinstall audio driver. Noting is working.I doubt that is an hardware issue.I was listening to music on iTunes, leaved my computer for a few minute, when I came back my iTunes was still playing music but my headphone was only outputting this noise. Any idea? I updated to Windows 8 today, and everything seemed to be going well until I tried playing music through my headphones. They worked fine on my iPhone, but once I plugged them into my laptop, no sound came out.

I ran windows updates today.

Answer:Headphone Jack Not Working

It looks like, with the "High Definition Audio Device" that you only have the basic function Windows installed sound drivers.

Try installing the PC Vendor's sound driver. Same way for HDMI install the Video Card vendor's drivers.

Well, I have a new computer. And I recently bought a Headset & Microphone, to play games with. It was all working perfect, until my brother plugged in the Headset plug, into the microphone port. And I disconnected it because it was wrong. Then, when I went to plug it into the Headset Port, it wouldn't read.

I've checked the headset to see if it was the plug, but it wasn't. I opened my computer to check if the connections to the port are okay, and they are. I believe it might be a software issue, but not sure as to what to do now.

Many thanks if you can help me.

Answer:Headphone Jack Not Working

I tend to think it's a hardware problem, but to make sure open up your Device Manager and expand all of the +'s. Look for yellow exclamation points. That would indicate the problem device. Also check your sound and microphone configuration. I know this link is for skype, but it addresses the same problem and has pretty detailed solutionshttp://www.skype.com/help/guides

When I updated my computer was upgraded to windows 10, the headphone jack was working perfectly. All of a sudden, a few months ago, they wouldn't work. I tried everything that I could find. I tried reinstalling the IDT high definition audio CODEC. When I tried to update it, it came up with an error here: https://puu.sh/r6LQJ/678c26d003.png.I looked around my computer, and everything was plugged in correctly (I'm pretty sure). The headphone jack still dosen't work right now. It isn't the headphones; I plugged them in on my laptop, and they worked perfectly (also, it was brand new). I need help to fix them. Can someone give me a different method?

I recently bought a Y50, only to discover that no matter what headphones I use, no sound will play. The actual speakers on the laptop work fine, I just cannot get any sound through headphones. I have tried messing with the drivers, but with no luck. Anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Or is my headphone jack busted?

Answer:Y50 Headphone Jack Not Working

hi Niphoros,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

Just to verify, do you get a pop-up notification whenever you plugged-in a headphone / earphone?
- Link to picture

If yes then your issue is most likely similar to this article. As per these specs, the Y50 uses an audio combo jack (headphone and mic). Although this port supports various mobile headphones, you may need to get a PC Headset to 3.5mm Smartphone Adapter if you're using a traditional headset with a separate.audio and mic connector.

Hi, I have an HP Pavilion 17 Notebook PC. Over the past few months my headphone jack has not been working properly. It started off with the headphones having to be held in a certain place to prevent sound coming out of the speakers at the same time as the headphones (I have tried every pair of headphones i own) . Over time, this has been getting worse and now, sound comes out of the speakers regardless of whether i have any heaphones plugged in. The headphone jack is really wobbly and i'm assuming i'll need to take my pc to a repair shop? Thanks in advance

Hey everybody, I have a very important question. My tablet's headphone jack is having a problem, and no matter what headphones I use when I turn the volume all the way up, it only has the volume of turning it about 1/4 or 1/5 of the way up. When it happened I was playing my guitar to some music, and I have the volume up all the way so I could still hear the music over the guitar. But then I heard some static and the sound went out. My first thought was that YouTube messed up and the video froze, but I quickly realized that that wasn't the problem. So I thought it was the headphones, which I've had since Christmas and they were only $20. Then I tried with my Dad's headphones and I have the same problem. My tablet is in good condition, as I've only dropped it a couple times on carpet and I never dropped it into any water or anything. But then again, I don't think that would have anything to do with it because it just randomly cut out while playing a YouTube video.

(BTW, I'm using a 8GB Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook)

Answer:Headphone Jack Not Working Right

I really hope it isn't the case, but it almost sounds like you pushed the internal DAC too hard :s

What did you have plugged into the headphone jack when the issue first happened (when you were playing your guitar)?

Hi,
I have a Nokia Lumia 1020 and my headphone jack doesn't seem to be working properly. I've only had the phone a few months and its never been dropped in any way so that rules out why it could be damaged.
The problem I have is when I plug earphones/speakers into my phone, I can hear music but only very very quietly. I've looked in audio settings and had a play around but nothing seems to work. The built in speakers work fine but headphone jack doesn't.
I wanted to know what could be wrong and what I could do to solve the problem.
Thanks

It is recommended to fill out your system specs. I have no idea what your system is or what audio driver/manager you are using.

If you have a realtek HD audio card- Install the audio manager, and set it to allow setting to pop up when jacks are used. That way you can tell it if you inserting headphones, mic, etc, and it will mute the external speakers and use the headphones-otherwise it plays out the speakers (this is common if you have a realtek card, and use the default Microsoft hd sound driver/software codecs. You may also note the "volume knob" does not work)

If you have a realtek card install the realtek driver/audio manager here:http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/...&GetDown=false

Hello,

Lately my headphone/computer has been acting weirdly. Before, a reboot worked but not anymore. For ex. i'm watching a movie on my laptop with my speakers. I can hear everything correctly. Then when I insert my headphone, i can't hear anything. Drivers are updated. I've read that IDT (the one that I have) don't like windows 7... Also, i cannot set my headphones as default device.

Please help me out, can't use my headphones!

If you are inserting the headphones once film has started, chances are the film has already picked up the sound device as speaker and wants to use that. changing in the middle of something often results in no sound, for me at least. try plugging phones in before you turn the computer on, and leave them in. hopefully that should cure it. Please note the word hopefully...

Answer:Y50 Headphone Jack Not Working

hi

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

The Y50 Supports a combo jack 3.5mm type of connection
This is a Mic and Earphone in just one jack. and not separate. Making it different as it has a different connector inside and touches the Plug Differently.

Can you try a combo jack on your Computer first and check if it will work. if it will work then You can get youself a Combo jack converter which can convert your two plug (mic and earphone) into just one plug combojack.

Hope this helps
Cheers!

The headphone jack on my new Y 40-80 has been acting up for the last 24 hours or so and nothing I do seems to fix it. I have tried with several different headphone pairs as well as testing them all on my friends  Y 40-80 with no issues. When i plug in my computer speakers through the same port the music is played back perfectly normal and the built in computer speakers are still working the way you would expect. Dear chrisadams96,

Welcome in Lenovo Community.

I would like to confirm that you are using a 3.5 mm combo jack head set that have 3 metal rings around the Jack.

If the one that you are using isn't a combo jack headset so i would recommend to use a one.

Waiting for your kind reply.

My audio from my T500 works perfectly, except when I plug in headphones. Even when my headphones are plugged in, sound still comes from the speakers, not from the headphones. I've tried different headphones, so the problem isn't with my headphones. I have gone to device manager, disabled and re-enabled the audio controller and audio device several times, but it still doesn't work. Does anyone know what the problem may be? Thanks

Hello, thank you for taking the time to read my topic, and hopefuly reply.

Earlier today, I was on my laptop, and I closed the lid, headphones plugged in and working, operating perfectly fine, and locked the door behind me.

In no less then 2 minutes I returned, and the computer acted as if the headphones were not plugged in at all, playing from the built in speakers. I tried different pairs of headphones, all don't work, and I see no visible problems with any of them, I've checked them over multiple times for tears, exposed wires, and the like.

I think it may be something with the headphone jack itself internally, but frankly I know nothing about how the computer is built, so I wouldn't know.

I appreciate you taking the time to read this, thank you in advance.

Hello I've bought my Lenovo laptop about half a year ago. From the very beginning the headphone audio jack had some problems, there would be no sound when headphones are plugged in, however restarting the laptop usually helped. I have not had this problem for a few months until now. When I plug in headphones, no sound comes out and restarting the computer does not help. Furthermore, the sound of the laptop speakers seems to be a big different than it normally used to be - the sound is a bit lower and so to say ''dimmer''. Please let me know I could fix it.

If I do a test in playback devices it shows the green bars fluctuating as if it is playing sound but no sound is actually played through, I have tried several sets of headphones all of which work on my desktop and iPod but non work on this piece of **bleep** HP laptop (which also has Wireless connectivity issues and is supposed to be brand new ( it was just replaced due to the screen failing) ) You guys got an amazing solution to this or do I just return it and blacklist HP for life given the fact that you can't seem to keep ontop of simple things like 3.5mm jack to send an electrical signal that is output as an audible sound.

I recently got a pair of new headphones. Eager to try them out I plug them into my laptop audio jack. They worked perfectly with no problems and they sounded great.

Only a few hours later I decide to use them on my lappy again and the audio was only coming out of the left headphone speaker. This irritated me and I instantly thought that the headphones were faulty. I plug them into my ipod and notice the headphones are working fine. This leads me to think that it is something wrong with my laptop. I plug in a different pair of earphones into the jack and again, the left side only works.

I am confused as to whether it is my settings or my headphone jack but I'm more inclined to think that it is my headphone jack which is the problem. Is there anyone who has had a similar problem or anyone who may have an idea as to how to fix this?

Thanks,
Nick

There are two connectors that break a connection in the phone jack on the phone when a headphone connector is plugged in.. This broken connection tells the phone a connector is plugged in. Insert the plug all the way in

I brought it back home later to find out that when I plugged my headphones into the jack, it only gave me the sound in the LEFT ear. I have a T540p, a little over a month old. Sometime in the last week (not sure of the exact date) the headphone jack in my machine abruptly stopped working. I've tried multiple sets of (known to be working) headphones in the jack, and they're definitely recognized when I plug them in (they pop up as "plugged in" in the list of playback devices in windows sound manager). The regular speakers work fine, but no sound comes out of headphones.I am pretty certain that this is NOT a driver/software issue. I haven't tried messing with drivers yet, but I dual-boot Windows 7 and Linux Mint, and the problem is identical on either operating system, so I have my doubts that the drivers on both systems failed simultaneously. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Answer:T540p headphone jack stopped working

Hi,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

Check the Playback Devices under Sound Properties (by going to Control Panel > Sound > Playback Devices and see if the Headphone is being set as the default playback device. If not, click on it and set it as the default playback device, try to play a sample sound and observe.

Try reinstalling the related audio drivers and see if it helps!

Please let me know the happenings!

Best regards,
Mithun.

I just got the phone, a little over a month ago. I had headphones plugged in to it before, but, now none of them work. Whenever I plug my headphones into the headphone hole, (I don't know the name for it, sorry.) the only audio that comes out is from the speaker in the phone instead of the headphones. I went to bed one night and they worked fine before I went to bed, the next morning nothing worked.

Answer:My headphone jack isn't working on my windows phone. Help?

Hi there,
It is possible that some dirt might have gotten into the headphone jack. Please try blowing it out with compressed air and let us know if that helps.

Hello! I've been talking with Windows support on this for a while and they've made it clear this is most likely a problem with the computer itself.  My laptop, bought new, has a headphone jack installed to the side but when I plug in my headphones audio continues to play out of my speakers. When I look in the playback devices tab, the headphone jack doesn't show up as an option at all. I have tried multiple headphones that all work with other devices. I have also updated and reinstalled the audio drivers from the hp website, with no change.  I use my headphones constantly and it's a real pain having to stream the audio through my phone when websites such as rabbit are so unstable. I just want to be able to use heaphones with my laptop.

I have to hold it to one side for it to work right, is there a way to fix it?

Answer:headphone jack is not working right, I have to hold it to work

Sounds like the jack is busted. That happens if you use them a lot. Any moment on the plug puts a lot of stress on the guts of the jack and on the little solder pads that hold it on the board. You might be able to reflow the solder joints if you feel like taking the notebook that far apart. Personally I would just buy an inexpensive USB sound dongle, under $4 from China, and be really careful of any jacks connected to the notebook moving forward.

Last night my earphones were working fine with my laptop but when I tried to watch something earlier my earphones wouldn't work but they still work if I plug them into my phone.

Answer:Equium P300-16T- Headphone Jack is not working

And what is with notebook speakers? Are they off when you use headphone jack?
When you disconnect earphones are speakers ON again?
It would be interesting to know if the small switcher is working properly.

One more thing: are you sure earphones are connected properly?

We have a Toshiba Portege M800 PPM81A-05W01J running Windows 7

The headphone jack on the computer seems to have stopped working. I have checked in playback devices when the headphones ( or external speakers) are plugged in and they do not show up there. Strangely enough when the computer is docked to the Dynadock and the headphones are plugged into the headphone jack on the dynadock then they show up in the playback devices dialogue window.

Does anyone have any advice on how to fix this, or troubleshoot it further.

Thanks

Answer:Re: Protege M800 Headphone jack not working

Does the headphone jack feel loose? Maybe the port is broken.

I'd send it to an ASP for repair. http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/service-centres

My XPS13 9343 headphone jack is not working.  I've re-installed the default audio drivers but no luck.  I ran the diagnostic tools and it reads my headphones microphone but will not play audio thru them.

Answer:XPS13 2015 Headphone Jack not working

I was able to solve this issue as follows (Windows 8.1):
- open the Windows Task Manager (ctrl+alt+del - Task manager)
- go to the Startup tab
- make sure all audio related tasks are enabled (mine had realtek audio manager disabled)
- restart
After that, you can open the Dell Audio control panel again. I did a "reset defaults" and that fixed it. Popup is appearing again when I plug in my headset.

Last month while walking i was listening songs and suddenly song stopped playing...i thought that my earphone was damaged so i switched to my headphones coloud boom when i returned to home...and yes they were working properly...but about from last week i'm suffering from weird problem... Songs were stopped if i slightly touch to upper part of male connector of jack(coloud boom) and then i have to remove jack and then reconnect it... today i got that my earphone and headphone are in good condition as i tried them on my laptop they are working very well...
So my question is what should i do to repair my phone's jack...should i give it to service center(as i bought it last year on 14th december so phone is under the warranty period) or should i try something at home?

BTW: I'm not sure how to check if G1 or G2 as I can't remember. I have recently bought a new microphone as my old USB one broke. Instead of USB this one has an audio jack. But my headphones are already using the audio jack, so I go out and buy an adapter. I come back home and test it to find out neither of them can work together. This is very fustrating as I either have awesome sound but bad internal mic that picks up fan or awesome mic but bad background noice from the computer.  Please, help me!

I have had Windows 8 since last November or December and only until recently I have had problems with the headphone jack. My laptop is Dual boot between Linux and Windows 8. Linux was put on after the Windows 8. I know there isn't anything physically wrong with the jack itself, because the headphone jack works perfectly fine in linux. I have tried to search the internet for solutions and I haven't found anything that is helpful, so I have come here.
My laptop is a Dell Inspiron N5110 that came with Windows 7. I had a few problems with drivers when I first put Windows 8 on the laptop. The display driver needed an update, but that was easily fixable. I don't think that this is a driver update problem because the headphone jack DID work, just recently has it stopped working.
I have tried to go into the device manager and search for driver updates, nothing. I am attaching link to a picture of my device manager incase it is helpful:

The EBT1000 headset and headphones I'm pretty sure are for my HP headset. I have tried right clicking on the sound icon and clicking on playback devices and showing all disabled devices like some websites said to do.

Overview:
-Dual boot Windows 8 and Linux Fedora 18
-Laptop is a Dell Inspiron N5110 that came with Windows 7
-Not physical problem w/ headphone jack
-Don't think it's a driver problem, but might be
