Preferred Solution: Audio coming from both Headphone and Speakers when headphone used!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Audio coming from both Headphone and Speakers when headphone used!!

thought here; have you checked all the settings to make sure the proper headphone/speaker settings are checked/unchecked?. i would consider updating to that newest driver. If it does not solve the issue you should be able to restore it back to the previous restore point which should undo the driver update.

This doesn't always happen, but I've noticed a few times on my T440p that when I have headphones plugged in, sounds comes out of the speakers. The headphones are functional and fully plugged in, yet no sound comes out of them, and the sound comes out of the speakers. I've fixed this multiple times by unplugging the headphones and plugging them back in. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, have you been able to fix it? The reason it is a problem for me is that it distracts those working around me. Thanks. (my problem differs from this one, where sounds comes from both the headphones and speakers)

Answer:T440p: Audio coming from speakers despite headphone being plugged into jack

Look for a multistream option in the Realtek audio control panel. Make sure it's set to unify headphones and speakers.Alternatively, if you want audio to only come out of the headphones and not switch dynamically, go to the Sound control panel in Windows, and set headphones as default.

I have Lenovo 3000 Y410 laptop having Windows 7 Home Premium installed on it. Realtek HD Audio latest driver is installed. But from the last 3 days, when I connect headphone through laptop, following things happen : -
1) Headphone connected popup doesn't show up.
2) Mic of Headphone connected pop shows up.

3) When I play video, sound coming from both headphone & laptop speakers.
4) When I mute sound by muting sound icon in taskbar, sound then comes only from headphone.

What I have tried?
1) Installed new Realtek HD Audio Manager.
2) Installed OS again.
3) Tried to change settings in Realtek Hd Audio Manager. But Nothing changes.

When I input headphone & mic jacks into laptop, & then check Realtek HD Audio Manager. The following image shows this : -

The green in realtek hd audio manager is for headphone & red is for mic. In the image, it is shown that headphone not connected & mic connected. But even headphone not connected shows up, sound coming form headphone.

I want to get sound from only headphone when headphone is connected. Is this a hardware problem ?

Please help....

Answer:Sound coming from both headphone & speaker but headphone is not detect

My Realtek HD Audio Manager has more options than yours.

Also, I notice you only have the microphone in the Recording Section of the Sound Panel. RIGHT click in an empty space in that Panel and then LEFT click Show Disabled and Disconnected devices. The Stereo Mix should be shown and you can enable that and make it the default Recording device.

Where did you get the RealTek driver that you installed? If you are not using the Lenovo supplied sound driver, get that and install it as a first step. I have a Lenovo Laptop and it has Stereo Mix and other functions. I haven't looked at the RealTek HD manager so I'm not sure what all it shows.

Whenever I plug in my headphones into the jack, I no longer get a notification telling me my headphones are plugged in and Audio comes out of both the Headphones and the laptop speakers. This happend recently and didn't happen before. I have tried multiple headphones, all to the same effect. I am thinking this is a hardware issue. Does anybody have any solutions to fix?

Answer:Both Speakers and Headphone play sound when headphone is plugged into Jack

Dear AlvinLee
Welcome in lenovo community
Method A:
1.  Go to the Control Panel by right click the bottom left corner in "Desktop" mode.
2.  Search for "Realtek HD Audio Manager".
3.  Set the headphone as communication device (see image below).
Also please let me know if you can hear also the sound from the headphone itself

My laptop runs on windows xp sp2, all drivers are installed, even I tried reinstalling the sound drivers(realtek) from toshiba website, doesn't help. please can anyone help in this regard.

Did you downgrade to XP or upgrade to Vista? Mute can get stuck if an OS has been changed.

Go into the Windows Volume Control, then click MUTE. Click MUTE again to unmute.

Hey everybody,

I bought the headsets. They've got a microphone as well.

Now I've got three ports: pink, green and this colorless one.

My regular speakers go in the colorless port, while the headphone microphone goes into the pink one and the headset speakers.

The thing is speakers on the headsets, as well as my regular speakers worked, but the microphone on the headsets didn't, so I tried to fix the problem, and eventually did, that is the microphone works, but the speakers on the headsets don't !

However, by inserting the headphone's speakers into the colorless port (where my regular speakers are put), in that case the headphones work, but why don't they work when I pluck them in the green port? Previously, when the microphone didn't work, the headphone's speakers worked, but after I 'fixed' the microphone problem, the headphone's speakers stopped working.

Please help me, as this is of great importance, and I've been trying to fix this problem for several hours.

Answer:Headphone mic didn't work - now it does, but headphone speakers don't

That colorless port might be for input devices, that does not include headphones. I had the same problem with my audigy 2 zs, had to plug my headset into a speaker port, its really the only way to get them to work, unless you have front panel ports for headphones.

Funny enough everything seem to be fine as the sound card driver is installed well (under Vista) and all the configuration seem to be correct and fine. Even when trying to change the volume level, you see that indicator SHOWS that a sound is beening played but you don't hear anything. I'm tired of installing and unistalling the driver (it's Realtek HD by the way) and nothing happends. Even I have checked the Services (local) and all seem to be fine.
Any ideas (.... it not on mute!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Answer:Satellite Pro A120 (PSAC1E) - No sound coming out of the speakers/headphone

It could be stuck in Mute mode.

Hello,Recently, right after I updated my Desktop to Windows 10 x64 edition, I noticed that the audio would come out of both the speakers and my headphones, and gradually start to only come out of the speakers. I've tried playing through several different headphones, but they did not work either, and tried both front and rear jacks. Even after restarting, I would fnd myself with the exact same problem a few seconds later. The audio is completely fine when only on speaker, though.

Hello Eight Forums.

My trouble is the audio output through headphones - background is louder than foreground (especially in music - I often cannot hear the vocals at all; movies however are mostly fine, for reasons unknown to me; but generally, the sound is always different in some way).

I only have one pair of headphones to test it with. However these always worked fine with previous machines, and still do work fine with my iPhone 4. Although they are surely not the case, I cannot with confidence say that if it were a loudspeaker instead things wouldn't have been different.

So this is either a software or a hardware issue.

My computer (details at the bottom) came with a SoundBlaster X-Fi MB3 equalizer program and RealTek High Def Audio drivers. I've uninstalled SoundBlaster hoping it would fix the issue (I didn't need an extra program like that anyway) but alas to no avail. Updating the RealTek drivers did no good still.

The only thing I haven't touched is the ghostly NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (can it be the source of my trouble?) - I only first noticed it now when copy/pasting the Belarc data. I'll try and find out about it in the meanwhile.

I wonder if it perhaps has something to do with my audio jack (laptop's brand new, but you can never know). I have what appears to be mic, headphone, S/PDIF and line in jacks... Is there a way to use the microphone or the line-in to test the headphones? To see if the headphone out is broken.

Any help appreci... Read more

Answer:Messed up headphone audio; want to check headphone jack

First, the "My System Specs" is where you fill in what you have.

Does the internal speakers on the laptop work? Is the audio OK on the internal speakers?

The SoundBlaster program(s) is a software enhancement to the basic audio chip (ReaklTek). Many PC's now come with some type of enhancement such as the SoundBlaster or in the case of HP PC's its "Beats Audio".

I just installed windows 7ultimate 32bits yesterday on my 4 computers.
but now i am facing a problem on all computers. when i plug the headphone stereo pin then the audio voice come from headphone and also from computer's built-In speakers
I check from font and back side of computer but result is same.
please help me how to fix this problem because i don't want to hear voice from speaker.

Answer:how to turn off audio from speakers while using headphone?

If your "My system specs" is the PC's you are referring to. You are apparently using a separate sound card (Creative 7.1), disable the on-board sound in the BIOS. Also, you have to move the front panel headphone connection from the on-board audio to the Creative sound card. In addition many sound cards have a control panel option to mute the speakers when a headphone is inserted (usually the default) or have both headphone and speaker on when headphone is plugged in.

I purchased my laptop about a month ago and just over a week ago my internal speakers stopped working and instead just make a very quiet popping/cracking sound when audio is being played. My headphone port still works perfectly tho. Every so often the speakers will start working again randomly but always eventually stop working again. I'm guessing it is a hardware issue and plan on sending it back under warranty but just wanted to make sure as happened very randomly.Cheers

I just purchased a new notebook, and I have a bit of a problem. When I plug headphones into the side headphone jack, the sound quality is downright terrible. Very shortly I noticed that it didn't sound as good/decent as my older notebook.
The speakers seem to sound fine, well you know - as good as laptops can sound.
Right now I have two notebooks side by side:
a friends Samsung Series 3 (NP300E5C), with Windows 8 (upgraded from W7) / Microsoft High Definition audio
my Toshiba L50 Windows 8 / Realteck High Definition
I dont have my older notebook anymore, but I do remember it sounding better. Comparing this Toshiba to the Samsung (both sitting on the desk side-by-side), the Toshiba sounds a little better through the speakers, but there is no comparison with the headphone - The Samsung is pretty decent while the Toshiba makes me cry.
Now granted, I'm not expecting a symphony, but if I cant solve this I'm going to have to sell the Toshiba.
I've tried uninstalling Realtek, but I couldn't get the sound to work.
Re-installing Realtek solved nothing
One thing I noticed, there is no 'headphone' icon in the device manager (Control Panel > Hardware & Sound > Sound / or simply right click the audio icon in the taskbar). Are the headphones not high definition or something?

Hi everyone,

I've been researching and pulling my hair out, and starting to think what I'm after is somehow not possible to achieve.

My goal is to be able to record my screen, my speakers, and my mic (narration), while also being able to playback ONLY my speakers to my headphones.

Basically, I wish to monitor ONLY the speaker audio, WITHOUT my mic (narration).

I thought I could achieve this by using Realtek HD Audio Manager, which allows you to playback two different audio streams simultaneously. However, it would seem that only certain Windows applications which are written to give you the option of changing the playback device can take advantage of this feature. The particular Windows application which I am recording does not give me that option.

So essentially I am wondering if there is a way to force an application to output to a particular playback device, ie. the Realtek HD Audio 2nd Output. The Realtek HD Audio 2nd Output would play to my headphones (application audio ONLY) while at the same time I would be able to record my screen, my speakers, and my mic all together at once.

I did find this post which broke my heart as it seems this might not be possible due to Windows only providing a single mixer, but wanted to try asking around here too -> Different audio output for certain programs [Solved] - Multimedia - Apps General Discussion

I haven't used one that had the port as a combined unit but I would assume you would need a headphone set with mic that has combined wiring, such as sets used for cell phones and such. You can also purchase an adapter that will split the port into 2 ports for mic and headphones.
Hope that gives you an idea

I recently purchased some Bose QC25 headphones and for some reason they seem to only play some audio through the left headphone e.g. watching a video and voices will come through clear on both but when there is music playing during the show it may only/predominantly come through just the left headphone.

This issue doesn't occur with some earphones I have.

Any ideas as to why this is would be greatly appreciated.

Is there any way to make my external speakers and USB headphones work simultaneously, or at least have it where plugging in the headphones makes them work and turns the speakers off?

The way it is right now, I have to open the Sound control panel and click the "Set Default" button to switch between either one.

I'd rather have it where both are on simultaneously, and then I can just use the controls on the speaker them off when I don't want them. If that isn't possible, then how about having it where the I just plug in the USB headphones, and then they work.

Having to open up a control panel every time I want to swap between headphones and speakers is a royal pain.

Answer:USB headphone/mic vs speakers

Welcome to the sevenforums! gsalter

And welcome to the trip into the CP each time headache. I had that problem plus the mic on a web cam overriding the mic on a usb headset here going back and forth between the default recording as well as default speakers settings. Back and forth and back and forth at first removing the web cam entirely for both Skype and the WLive messenger.

Actually when changing over between speakers and the headset you simply right click on the volume control icon in the system tray there and select "playback devices" rather then the need to open up the Control Panel each time. That's a fast shortcut for resetting the defaults.

This is perfectly normal. You can run an optical digital out this way. You need a mini-toslink adapter like this: Then you can set the digital out as default (instead of Speakers) to run audio to a surround sound reciever via optical fiber.

Hello @alirezab92,  Try this first : 1. Go into Control Panel, then Sound.2. Look for the Recording tab.3. Select your microphone/headset as the default device, and press OK. If these steps do not work then, I recommend uninstalling and reinstalling the audio driver.Download the IDT Audio installer on the link below.  If this does not work, and you still hear audio from both the speakers and your headphones, please follow the next step. The next step will be to run a diagnostic program Using Automated Troubleshooting (Windows 8). Heya, I have an HP Pavilion EP dv6 and I have a skullcandy "lowrider" headset, I was messing around with it today because I thought the microphone was broken, but I kept heard like a shuffling noise, and I sneezed and while my face was aiming towards the speakers on the headset, and I heard it!

Why do I have to speak through the speakers on my headset for sound to come out? And even if I have it on my head normally and I talk you can't hear me.

I also have a built in microphone but that doesn't work.

Answer:Headphone speakers acting like a mic??

Hello and welcome lazaro depending on what sort of headphones they are they can be used as microphones. For example the older moving coil phones used to be able to be used as microphones as they work along very similar lines.
That is because they are activated by air pressure waves in any case. Microphones are activated by pressure waves in and phones by pressure waves out.
Having said that it does of course depend a great deal on how the force of the pressure waves is generated each way but they can be used in reverse of what they are manufactured for.

Anyway try these first in any case < DO NOT run on a SSD

Hi, I am waiting for a new soundcard to arrive and in the mean time I have connected my speakers (logitech x 230) via the headphone input, they sound good, but is it a bad idea to connect them this way ..i.e will it damage of speakers or pc?

Answer:Speakers and headphone input

the headphone input? I am assuming you mean the headphone output. Just wanting to be clear.

No, it should not damage your speakers. I have had speakers hooked up to a headphone jack before. If you think about it, the only thing that comes out of the headphone jack is data and some power for small speakers. The power coming out of the jack isn't enough to fry headphones, so it should be good for any speaker. Plus, the speaker is not going to draw more power from the jack than it can deliver (but they may not work well if they require external power and they are not plugged in).

Does that answer your question.

What is new or different since the last time everything worked properly (ie, new hw, new sw, virus, error, etc)?

I have the Inspiron 5755, Windows 10, 2T HD, 12 GB of ram, 64 bit.  A few days ago, a message started popping up on my screen saying that I plugged in a device, and then immediately it would say I had unplugged a device and it would do that over and over.  Now I cannot hear anything from the speakers, but I can through my headphones.  Every now and then I can hear from the speakers for a few minutes.  I have tried about every suggestion that was posted about this problem on the internet, with no luck.  Yes my drivers are up to date.  Any suggestions?  I've only had this since December 2015.  Thank you for any help!
Someone said I could use external speakers but am not not sure what kind to use.

Hi guys

Today I purchased a microphone/headphone set. It is just a plug and play one. I came home and plugged it in, the microphone works fine but I can't get my headphone speakers to work.

So far I have tried:

Plug in the headphone port on the front of the computer - they don't work.

Plug in the line in port at the back (where my desktop speakers are plugged in) - they do work, but of course then I don't have my desktop speakers working.

Went into speaker options through control panel and of the 3 coloured ports, I selected for the middle one to be headphone - plugged it in - didn't work.

So I have 3 coloured ports, top being line in which I have the desktop speakers plugged in to, Middle being either line out or headphone, and bottom being microphone. Then I have the headphone port at the front. I have realtek ac97 drivers. So I'm not sure whether the drivers aren't set up for headphones or what the problem is.

Can anyone help?

Answer:Problem with headphone speakers

1) Your speakers have to be plugged into LineOut because LineIn is for another input from a stereo, etc.....
2) The normal place for headphones is the same port as the speakers (LineOut) Many speakers also have a headphone jack on them which disables the speakers when you plug in the headphones or you can buy a 3.5mm splitter which will give you two jacks; one for the speakers and one for the headphones.

Be warned; though, that leaving your speakers up when you use the mic causes an echo problem wherein your mic picks up the speaker sounds.

I would like to play music through the speakers and still be able to listen to my headphone; is this possible? Basically, I want to be like my own private DJ. I would like to use the headphone to listen to one song while another different song is playing through the speakers.

I know that someone already asked this and was told that they need two different sound cards, but i do and just dont know how to make it work. I have the sound card that was installed into my laptop and then i have one that bought u-control uca202.
When I try making the output the laptop speakers and the headphone monitor the u-control it just overlaps.

Ok, so I just installed a SSD into my Ideapad Y550. But for some reason, there is now a bright red light coming out of the headphone jack. It turns on about half way through the Windows boot up process. I even put back in the old hard drive to make sure I wasn't crazy and it wasn't there. So it works fine with a regular HDD, but not with a SSD. I called up Lenovo tech support but got a bull**bleep** "its there so you can find the jack in the dark" answer. I figured all it needed was maybe a BIOS update but there are none... Any idea on the light?

Hi again. I just had sound issues resolved last week but I'm here again for my computer...and it involves the sound.

Here are my computer's details:

computer is HP COMPAQ dc7100 SFF
Win XP Professional - 64bit
Service Pack 2
Version 2003

Sound did reinstall but now, we can't get the sound to play out of one area. If I plug in the headphones, sound should only go to the headphones but it doesn't. Can someone tell me know to get this straight?

thanks again...

hey guys!! so a week ago i was listen to music and that no problem, then that night i ran a windows update to update my whole laptop!! so i did it and when i woke up my sound was gone, from both my speakers and my headphone jack. i still have sound when i plug it into my TV with an HDMI cable, but that is all!! i have tried going one version back on my software and also re-downloading the software. so i am not sure what the problem is anymore. pls help guys!!

Answer:No sound from speakers or headphone port

Check start/control panel/sound.
Make sure the right output device is set as default.
Updating sound drivers can the default device to change,
especially considering that your video card has onboard sound.
That is probably why you have audio on the HDMI.

So I am not getting any audio through my speakers anymore this happened after I unplugged my headphones but it doesn't disable that they are unplugged I open my Realtek HD Audio Manager and it shows that the front jack has headphones in when they indeed aren't.
I can plug in my USB headset/mic and get sound through there due to it coming up as its own device so its something to do with my speakers in headphone mode.
Also I have tried restarts and shutdowns with and without the headphones in to try and get it to reset whatever happened with no success so any ideas?

Answer:Speakers stuck in headphone mode

Try uninstalling/reinstalling the sound and see if that resets it. Remove the USB headset/mic so it's not interferring or conflicting with the next steps. Go to the Device Manager and RIGHT click on the entry for the RealTek sound device and then LEFT click on the device and click "uninstall" DO NOT check the box to uninstall the drivers. Restart (reboot) the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the RealTek sound.

Hi,I have posted a thread about stereo mixer not working in Windows 7,well it still doesn't.I have tried everything possible (updating drivers and such),I can see it,I have enabled it but there is no sound coming from it,while it works perfectly on vista.I have been working on this issue for a while by installing Windows 7 on a different partition. But today is the day I give up,I really like Windows 7 but I can't use it just because of that minor problem.

While looking for a solution,I have noticed that some people have headphones and speakers as recording device, but I have them in playback section. So I wonder if it is possible to use headphones/speakers as recording devices.Because that would pretty much replace the stereo mixer and I wouldn't have to use Vista anymore.

Answer:How to set headphone/speakers as a recording device?

If you right-click in Sound and Show disabled devices, you should see Stereo Mix. If you select that as your default recording device, you should be able to record what the speakers hear.

Answer:Sound issue on speakers/headphone

Hello. Download and install a fresh copy of the Realtek audio driver. If doing that doesn't fix the problem, switch to the windows native audio driver.
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked .7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, sometimes you have to restart, sometimes not.[To get back to the Realtek driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]
If the headphones still don't work after doing that, it is because of hardware failure.

I want to get my MP3 player running through my CD player's speakers. Can anyone help?

Answer:Headphone jack to stereo speakers

Are you talking about a "boom box" type cd player? If so, your stereo needs to have some type of aux input. You can use the headphone jack of the mp3 player as an output but keep the volume low. Inputs are normally line level so they don't need a lot of power sent to them to amplify the music. Infact, sending too much of a signal into an input can damage a stereo. try to balance it so the volume you here from a cd and the mp3 player are the same. .1 watt is enough for the line level input.

Hi all

I'm currently using a HP Pavilion dv4-1433us laptop.

The problem I'm having is this:

When I have my 'Default Device' (under Sounds >> Playback) set to Independent Dual Headphones, I get perfect sound from Headphones / Exterior speakers, but the second I disconnect all exterior sound devices, my built in speakers do not play any sound.

When I have my 'Default Device' set to Speakers and Dual Headphones, I only get sound from my built in speakers, even when I have headphones plugged in.

I did not used to have this issue, the built in speakers used to play perfectly, and the headphones would play the second I connected them. I believe this started after I downloaded a patch for IDT High Definition Audio CODEC. I'm not that knowledgeable on computers so I haven't figured out how to fix this.

I tried enabling the stereo mix option in the recording devices and setting it so you can listen it. But when i set it to the device that's not the default it does nothing. Anyone have a solution to this?

This is a problem that has happened twice before. At first I thought it was a fluke, but now I'm very concerned. Restarting my computer, or trying to go back to recovery a week ago has worked, but I don't know what's causing the problem. I get no sound whatsoever from any app, player, window, etc. I just downloaded the latest audio driver, but that did nothing.

if recovering via restarting or recovering the system helps then its for sure not a hardware issue. Any application which you installed could have cause this issue? What machine are you on btw?

Detection is a driver issue. Try using a different version of the Realtek drivers.

From past experience, Realtek and Win7 don't work well together. Trial and error to find a driver version that will work...if you are lucky. I finally gave up and switched to an addon sound card.

Dear Friends,
I have HP DV4 Pavillion core i3 with Windows7 operating system.
I would like to know if we could use the inbuilt speakers and headphone simultaneously for example...headphone for voice chat and inbuilt speakers for music playing.
Please advice.

Answer:Using Inbuilt speakers and headphone simultaneously

Well I know you can use both simultaneously, but I don't know how to have different things playing on each. To at least have both in use at the same time, and there will be a slight half second delay between the two, follow these instructions:

First make sure that your computer doesn't have anything in effect where if you plug in your headset, your speakers will mute. And also make your speakers the default sound device (I think this matters later on).

Go to "Control Panel" and under "Sound" go to "Manage Audio Devices" then click on the "Recording" tab. Then right click on an empty space and select "Show Disabled Devices". "Stereo Mix" should pop up, right click on it and select "Enable". Double click on it and go to the "Listen" tab.
Now I may be wrong here, but select your default sound device in the list, check the "Listen to this device" box above, and click "Apply". You should be hearing the same audio between both devices.

Maybe you can do something with this to hear song A in your headset and song B in your speakers? Or maybe some wise guru will walk in and tell me my idea is stupid and of no use, heh. So be it.

Answer:Got sound from my headphone jack abut nothing from speakers

These systems are auto sensing what is plugged in. You can try reinstalling the sound driver as one thing. Another is a "recycle" of the device - go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for the device and then LEFT click "Uninstall" - DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the device. If the status with Windows was corrupt this will fix that.

I recently had a computer problem and brought it to a computer store to get it fixed. They erased most of my stuff but fixed it.

Well my sound seems to come out through my speakers and headphones. In volume control the wave seems to affect my volume. If I have volume control muted, and the wave unmuted and high, volume WILL come out. This is verrrry confusing to me.

I dont know if its my audio driver problem.I have conexant HD-audio smartaudio 221 according to device manager.I tried updating the driver but it ended up removing it and saying NO AUDIO DEVICE.I tried rollbacking but it didnt work so i system restored back to the beginning.

So now I am unable to play videos or games because its too loud in my house. Can anyone explain what wave means, suggest the proper sound audio device, explanation as to why sound comes through both speakers and headphones,etc..

Im not really good with tech stuff too and cant be forced to go back to the computer store.I think I fixed this myself last time but forgot what I did.

Btw I have a Compaq Presario C700 Notebook Windows XP

Sorry for the wall of text

Answer:Trouble with sound card/headphone/speakers.

I believe the 'wave' option is used when you're playing music, e.g. different volume control than normal system volume. It sounds like it's working like it's meant to.

What's the problem exactly? The sound doesn't work? Is too soft? Is too loud? Just post your exact problem please

I've had this laptop G510 for a lil over a year, but this problem just arose this week.  When I plug in my headphones into the audio jack, the sound still comes from the laptop speakers. I have to move the jack around to get the sounds to come from the headphone.  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the audio device drivers and restarting the laptop, but the problem persists. Has anyone experienced this problem and have solution ideas? (It seems like a hardware issue, but I'm not sure how to fix it if it is a hardware problem)

Answer:G510: Headphone Plugged In- Sound from speakers

Hi Tsukari07,
Welcome to the Forums
As per the query we understood that you are facing issue with headphones jack in your Lenovo G510 laptop.
Connect the headphone to the jack and right click on the speaker icon in the task bar select playback devices option and check if the headphone is detected or not. If yes select the headphone and click on set default option and check for the issue.

Monitor w/ built in speakers is an HP f2105.

Windows 7 32bit

I turned my computer off for a week. The first time it's ever been off in 5 years. It has an onboard Realtek soundcard. It worked perfectly before leaving for vacation. I come back and there is no sound. Headphones work and the speakers work when plugged into the front panel headphone jack.

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling drivers and making Onboard Sound Card "Enabled" in BIOS. Is it likely that the onboard sound just stopped working while being shut off or is there another underlying issue?

Answer:Speakers only work plugged into headphone jack

Will the headphones work when plugged into the back panel (green jack)?

Does this not work?  I have a 2.1 speaker system and it connects to a computer just using a single adapter.  It fits into the headphone jack but I cannot get sound out of the external speakers.

Answer:Edge 15 external speakers through headphone jack?

hey redfisher80,
that setup should actually work, i would recommend the following,
- uninstall the current sound driver for your unit
- let windows install its generic driver.
- test the speakers again
also could you test those speakers on another device too ?

I was wondering if I could direct my microphone input strait to my headphone jack so the sound input could be heard on headphones. Also, could I disable the feature that turns off my built-in speakers when I plug in headphones. I have a hp pavilion dv9000 with vista installed. any help?

Answer:Solved: microphone to headphone jack and speakers

I use an external mixer for this kind of thing- that way I can not only use the headphones to monitor the inputs, but my mixer allows me to select one input among many while not disturbing the mix.

Even an inexpensive mixer will have multiple mic or high level inputs and many will have the ability to add reverb or other effects. They can also feed one or more computers for recording (and/or backup of main recording).

Basically my laptop fell on the floor with headphones in the jack, and the jack is now jammed up inside the laptop so no sound works. Does anyone know how I get it repaired and how much it will be roughly?

Answer:no sound works at all (headphone or speakers) as jack is dam...

Hi, you could download the maintenance and service guide from to see if the connector is mounted to the mainboard and if it would be a difficult repair.  If so, you might use something like the Sabrent USB audio adapter as a workaround.  I have one and it works well.

My laptop speakers eventually stopped working after I accidentally violently yanked out my headphone plug from the jack.I could ignore that because I usually just use headphones anyway, later down the road however, I found my speaker jack so messed up internally(without needing to take a peek at it) that it makes my speakers LOUDLY  either beep screech shriek or buzz, and this is not a system beep that is quiet but noticeable this is a full on messed up audio problem, when I actually have audio playing (not just the internal fan SOMEHOW coming up in the audio stream, *censored* manufacturers and their laziness.) the audio plays distorted while buzzing etc, should I just open up the laptop and bend it back into place so it does not cause problems, or should I just rip it out? I could rip it out because I have already ordered an USB sound card with headphone/mic jack, but that wont fix the problem, the bigger problem this cause is that my laptop freezes as a result of whenever it happens

Answer:internal speakers/headphone jack problem

Why blame the maunf's ? ?Sounds like your aggressive nature dealing with hardware may be the issue...

Hi All, I have a HP ENVY Notebook - 17-k200na which runs Windows 10 with Beats Audio As of last night the laptop is refusing to play any sound via the built in speakers.Headphones work fine (both Bluetooth and wired) and it seems that the PC isn't recognising that the headphones have been removed. I'm not sure if its caused by a hardware or software issue. I have updated, uninstalled and reinstalled the sound drivers to no avail.  When searching this issue online most people advise a work around, in which in the playback devices settings you disable headphones and set speakers as default device. However, even with the most up to date drivers my speakers and headphones are displayed as 1 single device.  Further to this I have seen you can disable Jack detection in Realtek HD Audio Manager. Unfortunately, whenever i try and run HD Audio Manager the window immediately closes and Beats opens in its place. Beats Audio (at least my version) has next to no settings and this option is not available to me.  Any advice would be great. A link to a new version of Beats software could be advantageous if one exists. Any other work arounds also welcome.
