Sounds works except for one program, but that program shows activity

Question: Sounds works except for one program, but that program shows activity

Sound generally works perfectly fine on my computer, I can watch movies, play games, etc....

Except, I recently installed the slingplayer desktop program. I do not hear any sound. However, the mixer is showing that it is generating audio. This works perfectly fine on a different computer.

This is a windows 7 sp1 x64 machine.

Thanks

Preferred Solution: Sounds works except for one program, but that program shows activity

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Slingbox has a support and forum for their products. As everything else works, it looks like either a bad install or a configuration issue with that software.

Best place to start would be Slingbox.

I made a sound file to replace the default "Windows shutting down" one. (I don't remember what its name actually was.)

It wasn't until I started playing with alternative ones for "Start Windows" that I noticed the "Shutting down" entry was missing from the Program events window - yet it still works and plays the file I made.

How can I get it to appear again in the Program events window?

I have a friend staying with me untill she gets on her feet and I allow her to use one of my computers for online job applications and such but I noticed last night that she has been deleting the internet history. I need to be able to log whats going on with the computer while she's using it so I can make sure she's trying to help herself or I'll honestly have no choice but to give her the boot.

Does anyone know of any software that can monitor at the very least internet useage through IE8 and Mozilla? I need a program that will make me a log file that cannot be deleted or at the very least is hidden so it cannot be found by the average relatively PC illiterate person.

Does XP have a logging facility that would allow me to know when programs have run on my system?
The system seems to be more active when it is in sleep mode then when it is awake. I do run many autostart programs like backups, malware checkups etc. but their schedules were set far in the past and I no longer have a handle on them.

Hello - I have a dell optiplex gx270 with 2gb of RAM / 2.60ghz speed. About 2 days ago I was viewing a video in my DVD player and notice that the picture became "choppy". I put another DVD video in the player an viewed another movie, it too was choppy. I stopped the player and played a video in youtube to see if the issue was just with the player. Youtube playback was the same. It run fine a little and then it would stop and repeat itself though the viewing. I then closed all apps and shut down the computer. After start up, I went to Task Manager to see what the cpu performance was without any apps/art or office programs running. The performance continued to go from 0% to something in the mid-to-upper range of about 68% to 100%. It still hasn't stopped. The process that continues to take up most of the resources is Toolbar Updater Service.exe. At one time during this excursion, the cpu usage spike to 100% and stayed there for at least 1 min or so. Am I infected? What is your guess as to what is going on?

Answer:cpu usage at 100% w/o program activity

Hello Optimus Prime Rib, Let's run a few scans on your system to get a little closer look at what's going on.Please download GMER from one of the following locations and save it to your desktop: * Main Mirror This version will download a randomly named file (Recommended) * Zipped Mirror This version will download a zip file you will need to extract first. If you use this mirror, please extract the zip file to your desktop. * Disconnect from the Internet and close all running programs. * Temporarily disable any real-time active protection so your security programs will not conflict with gmer's driver. * Double-click on the randomly named GMER file (i.e. n7gmo46c.exe) and allow the gmer.sys driver to load if asked. * Note: If you downloaded the zipped version, extract the file to its own folder such as C:\gmer and then double-click on gmer.exe. * GMER will open to the Rootkit/Malware tab and perform an automatic quick scan when first run. (do not use the computer while the scan is in progress) * If you receive a WARNING!!! about rootkit activity and are asked to fully scan your system...click NO. * Now click the Scan button. If you see a rootkit warning window, click OK. * When the scan is finished, click the Save... button to save the scan results to your Desktop. Hey guys, the son's getting older and he's starting to use the computer for school. Just to be safe and be a little proactive I want to have some logging software to report to me what sites have been visited. I also don't want the end user to be able to see it running or have a way to turn it off. (I also have shady friends that use the public computer in the den).

Any recommendations? A free trial would be a plus. The option to block inappropriate categories would be a plus, but is not required. I'll also be installing this software on a computer that is not behind a router that why I'm not just using the content blocking on a router.

I recently downloaded a program and when ran, nothing came up.
I scanned it before and attempted to scan afterwards and got an error about a duplicate file
My AV is Avast home edition version 4.7.

I thought something was afoot so I started the computer in safemode(Windows XP SP2) and ran a thorough scan that revealed nothing. After restarting normally I notice a new process IPFW.exe after googling it found out that it was a trojan that allowed remote access and sent passwords and such. I ended the process and searched my computer for it and came up with C:/windows/system32/ipfw.exe

Before going to check out the file i turned on my firewall program, Zone alarm pro, and while in the folder it said explorer.exe was trying to access the internet and it started taking up all my cpu. I ended the process and restarted it and all was fine afterward. I got worried and downloaded hijackthis and found this site through google and was wondering if you could help me.

I am constantly installing new software on XP machines that will not run under a domain user account until i hack the registry. Problem is, with new programs, it can take a lot of time and trial and error to find the key that is causing the issue, and reset the permissions.

It would be far easier if there was a tool that would display something like:

"program x is attempting to write to registry key y"

I know its a long shot, but is there anything?

Answer:Program to display registry activity?

RegProt is just the thing you want. It asks if it is OK for a program to add important keys. Best of all, it is free. While you are there, take a very strong look at Process Guard and Wormguard. I don't know what I did without any of them. They are "must have" software.

Be aware that you should temporarily disable RegProt when you add certain hardware, or the drivers may be blocked from installing. I found out the hard way.

Hello to Whoever Reads This,

Thank you in advance for your help.

Running XP. How do I add a "program event" to Control Panel/Sounds and Audio Devices/Sounds/Progam Events/Windows?

To be specific, my daughter's computer is missing the event named "Default Beep" and, consequently, cannot hear some sounds when she plays games in, eg., Zone games site. On my computer I can see "Default Beep" and can assign a sound to this event. On her computer this "program event" is missing altogether.

Good Day

I was searching google and other websites for a solution. My problem is my vpn program stops sending and receiving data(Not Hanging) ramdomly. Then i need to manually stop and start the connection in the vpn program. The vpn program have the option of starting the connection on start up. I have created batch files to terminate and start the vpn program. What i need is some windows program that rely on a internet connection to log an event in event viewer if no internet connectivity detected and then use that event in task scheduler to trigger the batch files. I only found one program which is windows media center(which is working) but it only checks for updates every hour and when windows media center updates failed then it only log it with event viewer and trigger the batch files.

Any help would be much appreciated

Thank You

Answer:A way to trigger the restart of a program if no internet activity

Hello,

Welcome to Seven Forums.

Take a look at ping monitor Free version.
You didn't say if the internet was not responding, disconnecting or something else.
Ping Monitor allows you to set up 1 or more destinations that are pinged repeatedly. If no response is received within a predefined time, you can trigger the running of another program, send an email, and do other stuff.

You can find it here... Ping Monitor - Free Network Ping Monitoring Tool

Hm, the only thing that comes to mind for me would be altering the properties on the playback and microphone sound settings. XP Pro_SP3
I hear the Windows Startup and Shutdown sounds, but nothing else. All the Program Event
sounds like "Empty Recycle Bin" just stopped a few hours ago.
The default for audio and video is the latest version of VLC Media Player.
Everything in "Device Manager" and "Sounds and Audio Devices" looks ok. Tested the sound
card and speakers by playing several audio clips with VLC. No problems.
I googled "xp program event sounds not working." It's frightening! There are endless posts
about XP sound problems that resolve nothing. This is the first time I've ever had a sound
problem with any version of Windows.
Most weird problems like this are resolved in the Registry. If that's true, I need to know which
Keys and Values are responsible for this trouble.
I don't know if this matters, but I'm the only user with full administrative rights. There are no
viruses, malware, etc.

Hey guys, just thought I'd share this with ya!

I found a great program called MP3myMP3 (CNET Review here: MP3 My MP3 Recorder - Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com) that records sounds that your PC makes.
In other words, the sound that YOU hear from it.
E.G. If you wanted to record an error sound that Windows Makes (I know that they're in C: Somewhere this is just an example) you'd just press record and then play the sound and press stop. Simple.

Just thought I'd share as it came in handy for me.

Every so often (once or twice in a 24 hour period), my internet completely disconnects. It drops me from IRC, torrents, Steam, any browsing I'm doing, and so on. This seems to happen only on this computer (I have another computer and an Xbox 360 on the same wireless network, and neither of them drop when my computer drops.

This, alongside the consistent HDD activity light (and sound) that appears during these disconnections, leads me to believe that there is a program on my computer causing these disconnections. I'm reasonably certain that I am virus free and a "legitimate" program is causing, as I run regular scans using both Microsoft Security Essentials and Trend Micro HouseCall.

However, I'm still stumped: I have no idea what program could be causing this and I have no idea to figure out how to deduce this. Can somebody recommend me some monitoring tools that I can use to see what programs are active when these disconnections occur? I have tried going to Resource Monitor but it never ever seems to open fast enough to display what is going on during the disconnections, so I need something that provides logging functionality. Can anyone suggest free monitoring tools I can use to clear up this mystery?

Answer:Periodic Internet disconnections - related to program activity?

You know how Spyware takes screenshots of computer activity every n seconds? Is there any program that takes video footage, so you can actually see the activity in motion.

I don't need this for any means of spying. I need to turn a perfectly timed PowerPoint presentation into a video, and a camera just won't do.

Free capture program screen view @ http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=57457&package_id=53019&release_id=102379

Or pay programs like Camtasia or SnagIt will record your desktop to avi.
There was a program called Robodemo, that would record by clicks & and I think timed intervals.. I also think Macromedia bought the company now.

I'm trying to solve a problem that I've posted earlier but getting no responses.

The Reliability Monitor only connects to Microsoft when Explorer has full access. I'm trying to just limit its access for Reliability Monitor.

So I though maybe there is a program that can track what resources Explorer is using when it updates with Microsoft.

I tried using Windows Resource Monitor. Only explorer shows up in the network connections. Checked Explorer in the CPU category but there are an infinite amount of services it is using and I can't properly diagnose what resources it's using during the update. Maybe there is a more advanced way of using the monitor to solve this problem. I don't know.

Is there a third party software that can just track that instance of Explores activity? I did a net search but all I get is results for internet connectivity programs.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

So, today while I was playing World of Warcraft, my computer started making strange noises at me. At first I thought I had left an internet tab open or something because I kept hearing commercials and pop news highlights coming through my speakers. But after making sure that everything was shut off, the noises kept coming. Upon further inspection through my volume mixer I found this strange program producing noise but it had a "No Name Available" as a descriptor.

I have run Malwarebytes Pro and Combo and uninstalled everything that I had run today but it still persists. I even did a full system restore dating back a couple weeks yet the noises keep coming. PLEASE HELP! I have no idea what's causing this and it is literally driving me batty. Any ideas?

Desperate for answers,

Is it for example, a buzzing noise, a high pitched whine or what?

Hi

I'm currently working with a colleague's computer. It's been showing signs of what I thought might be malware activity. It's using CPU to capacity while idle and uploading/downloading a lot of traffic I couldn't immediately trace back to legitimate activity. My colleague is using a limited data plan and burned through 1GB in a matter of days without doing much of anything.

I ran through the READ&RUN instructions for XP. Any help in cleaning the system would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Answer:Suspicious internet activity, high background program load

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). I am in the process of writing a scoring program that will reward students for finding vulnerabilities in Windows 8, 10 and Server images as part of training for a competition, CyberPatriot. My plan is to use a modified version of the Python 3 script I've
developed for Ubuntu which compares settings in various files (e.g., /etc/login.defs which contains the MaximumPasswordAge and /etc/pam.d/common-password which contains password complexity configurations) against a series of benchmarks.
I have been unable to track down readable files that contain these settings or configurations in Windows. MBSA is able to "read" various settings so that it can do its work, reporting vulnerabilities.
Are there text files that can be open and read or registry entries (I am able to "read" the registry with the Python module winreg) that contain the information I would need to compare to benchmarks for scoring how many vulnerabilities my students
have found and rectified?
As an alternative, is there an open source scoring program that could be modified to perform this task?

This is more of a learning question than a need for urgent help.

As you should know, within (Sounds and Audio Devices) under (Tab Sounds) and within Program events:...there are Windows, Alps Pointing Device Driver {whatever this is}, NetMeeting (whatever this is}, Windows Explorer, Microsoft Money, Windows Messenger, MSN Messenger, Microsoft Works Calendar, Microsoft Works Task Launcher, and Microsoft Works Portfolio. Can other programs be added into this "Program events:"?...for the purpose of adding a sound?

Thanks!

One of my hard drives just failed after years of reliable service. A lot of valuable information was lost.

To avoid this in the future, it would be helpful to know just how old a drive is to know when it's time to be replaced.

Is there a program that can tell me when I drive was manufactured?

Answer:A program that shows Manufacture date?

Drive age doesn't really have much to do with 'drive failures'. Time in service increases the risk, but it's not a defining factor either.

The HDD should have a sticker on it showing date of manufacture. I don't know of a program.

I know I've asked this before but I can't find the thread anymore... please forgive me for that.. I know how annoying it is to have multiple threads of the same thing being asked cuz people didn't read through previous posts. :mad

But I am trying to find a program for Windows Vista that will show me where all my hard drive space is going. I don't like Vista AT all and I've just had to switch to it from using XP all this time. I'm not happy about it but there's nothing that can be done about it. Technology evolves and I should evolve with it I guess... but I'll do it kicking and screaming the whole way! LoL!! :crybaby

I especially hate the search function in Vista. :guns In XP all I had to do was check mark if I was looking for music or pictures or whatever and tell it to check the whole drive and then it would bring me ALL the types of music on my drive and I could easily delete what I didn't want that was taking up so much space.

I have yet to figure that out here on Vista. :confused

Is there a program that can help me do that? So I can free up some space. I've already gone through removing all programs I don't want... but I know there's got to be stuff on here like movies or music that I don't want. It's my daughter's old computer and you know how kids are. So I want to get rid of all that stuff and try and start with as smooth of a slate as possible without having to go throu... Read more

I need a program that shows accurate amount of ram being taken up and by which process.

I've been using procexp but I haven't figured out which number is the real number and there's no total.

Obviously I've been using task manager too but the process list doesn't total up to what the PF usage is.

I've always relied on task manager but sometimes certain games like America's Army will say it takes up 250 MB, but when I check my PF usage it's at 530 mb and i'm starting at a boot up of 100 MB (with no spyware or useless processes loaded), so I could really use a program that tells me what that extra 200 mb of ram is being taken up by.

Thanks.

Answer:Need a program that shows accurate amount of ram being taken up.

Your OS takes a lot of it. If you have Intel hardware, go to their site and download their desktop control center which tells you how much meory and CPU is used in real time.

Ok, so I noticed that for a while I haven't been here my microsoft sounds when I boot up and shut down my machine. At first I thought that I didn't have the sound files but that wasn't it.

I went into control panel, sound and audio devices and click on the sound tab. Under the program events list, I notice that many of the program events were missing such as windows start up and windows shut down. This is why I wasn't hearing any sounds when I would shut down and start my computer.

My question is, how do you get those items back on the program event list?

I use windows XP home edition computer.

Any help or suggestions? The thing is the a lot of the items in the program list are missing. So lets say I wanted to change the sound that I hear when I turn my machine on, I would go under windows and highlight windows start. But on my program list, it is not there. Hence I have no sound when my computer goes on. It is a stupid thing I realize that but I am curious how the items were lost and wondering if I can get them back. But hey, my computer is 6 years old and still runs great. I should just be happy with that.

Answer:Missing items on Program list in Control Panel Sounds

i have the identical problem. i have discovered that if i create a new user account, all the program events are available. if i try the run command for sfc / scannow it asks me insert the windows xp install cd but won't recognize it when i do. I don,t think there is anything short of doing an xp repair that will solve my problem. if you come up with something let me know.

Thanks, Jeff

Well basically,
i uninstalled "Fable Lost Chapters" because it was using up space
on my drive. So i uninstalled the game, half way through the uninstallation
the PC lagged so i used task manager to close the uninstaller.

My first mistake was right there, after when i tried to uninstall it, it said
i had finished but everything was clearly still there. So i read around the forums,
and i used a force uninstaller which worked fine, except the "fable lost chapters"
icon was still in the "uninstall or change program" windows, with no stats,
(ie how big it is, last altered ect). Game was gone but the value was still there.

So i fished around the regeditor hoping to find it, but no luck there.
I have also tried using "C CLeaner" to delete the entry but it gives me this
error message "Cannot delete MSI installer" no idea what that means.

Anyone know a solution. Oh yeah anyone who helps will get +rep

Thank You
Regards
DAZZ(^.^)

Hello,

Have you tried to uninstall it from Add/Remove Programs. Often when something like this happens, you try to uninstall it from Add/Remove Programs, you get an error about it not being installed any longer, and the entry is gone!

Answer:A program that shows me all the programs that are installed and their keys

>> Ok...does anybody know a program that shows me ALL the programs that are installed on my computer and also their Keys? <<

WinAudit 2.27 as well as Belarc Advisor are both freeware "PC Audit" types programs which list all hardware components as well as the programs that have been installed on your computer.

Both of these audit programs will also will show some of your program's license information and product keys (besides the Microsoft keys) but not ALL keys. WinAudit does not require any installation you just click on it after you download it. Belarc does require installation however it is a very tiny program installation and it is very easily uninstalled if you do not like it and want to remove it afterwards.

Side Note: As for finding some kind of "All-in-One" computer software audit program that does everything that you want (listing programs, license information and product keys, etc); as far as I know there is no program freeware or shareware currently available that will that will search your computer and list ALL product keys.

The problem is that not all shareware software programs which require product keys store this information in the same place and this information is frequently hidden and consequently is not very easily found by conventional software audit programs.

Good Luck!

I've been using an OCR program (Abbyy FineReader 6.0 Sprint Plus) for scanning and pdf'ing old files for months with no problems. But now, when I try to run it, I get the opening banner, then nothing. Windows task manager shows the program under processes, but not under applications.

MY OS is XP home, which is completely up to date. Everything was working fine until a couple of days ago. I don't think I've changed any settings. I think there were some recent automatic microsoft updates, but I can't recall whether those were just before or just after this problem arose.

Any suggestions very much appreciated! Below is a list of what I've tried so far.

If you removed it from the control panel, it shouldn't be there. You can edit the config.sys file in notepad & uncheck it in msconfig, startup. If that doesn't satisfy you, search for it in the registry & delete it from there. How do you know when a politician is lying? His mouth is moving.

Why would I have HP on a Dell computer? Would it hurt anything if I uninstall all these HP downloads if they are not being used?

Answer:XP Add Remove Program shows unknown HP installations

Before you uninstall anything you might want to check in MSCONFIG--STARTUP to see if anything from HP is running and then decide if you need it. I seem to recall some HP software/drivers that are used by other systems as well. But if it's just the updates, online store and solutions center then yeah, that's just BS and can be removed.

Hi everyone,

SevenForums has quite many categories, and my issue probably could have been placed in another subforum as well. Sorry if this wasn't the right one.

I'm experiencing a strange problem, where on certain programs, I can see whatever there is behind them. I've mainly had this with Chrome, it could also have happened with regular windows, not sure of that (kind of stuff that happens while you're working w/o paying attention to special details at that time). The behind content pops in in parts - an icon on the desktop (and it's barrier surrounding it), part of a background programs ...

For example, I can sometimes see Foobar2000's (audio playback software) current playing song's like, or the visualizations running at the top - in the middle of an internet website. Funny isn't it ?

I cannot interact with those popping parts though (those 'behind' the active window).

Anyone experienced this problem as well ? I'd really like to hear suggestions as to how to solve it... It's cool actually, but could be quite bothersome when you're running something critical.

Thank you !

Using Windows 7 Service Pack 1. I use a program called Turbo Lister 2 for selling things on ebay. I use it almost daily, but a couple of days ago I clicked on it and it didn't open. I tried to run as administrator, eventually did an uninstall an reinstall, but still won't open. The weird thing is that it when I click it, it shows up on the processes tab on TM for a couple minutes then disappears again. Everything else seems to be working fine. I ran all of the hard drive and memory tests that come up when I push esc before windows loads and it shows no problems. Anybody have any idea what is going on and how to fix it?

P.S. I am a complete retard when it comes to computers (all I know is how to use one), so please be patient if/when I don't know exactly what you're talking about and I won't feel bad if you talk to me like I'm 5 about this stuff.

I tried to do that, but the laptop did not come with any OS discs, and reinstalling Windows did not work when I went through recovery in Windows. In fact, reimaging wasn't even an option (I did a clean reinstall of Windows last year on a new hard drive, and apparently don't have the original retail information on this one).

I had an issue with Firefox where if I clicked the Taskbar icon, the program would not show on the desktop. HOWEVER, if you hover over the icon, it showed what it would look like if it were expanded. I restarted it in safe mode and got it to work again.

Just now WORD is doing the same thing. I had 3 WORD windows open and then they stopped showing at some point. However, they appear if I hover over the icon (set to "always combine, hide labels" in taskbar). I can see that they are in the same state that I left them, but they won't show on the desktop if I click them.

So right now, WORD won't open at all, even though the icon thinks it is open. This is really a problem since I need to finish some work with WORD ASAP.

Answer:Program Not Showing On Desktop, But Shows on Icon...Twice Now!

I *think* I found the issue. For some reason, I have to connect both my HDMI and Display Port cable to make this ultrawide monitor work (not sure why that is, but it is). Anyway, I then went to Settings/Display/Multiple Displays (since there were 2) and set it to "duplicate these displays". I think it has to do with the ultrawide acting as two virtual side by side displays or something. Not sure. So I think WORD got stuck on one of them...or something. Who knows. Hoping this fix will stick.

HiI just found something strange (?) - if I right click IE8 shortcut and select "Run As...", leave option Protect my computer and data from unauthorized program activity checked and click OK IE8 won't start... there is no error (not even in the event viewer), it just doesn't work. That does seem to be Microsoft's idea of maximum protection. It isn't necessary to access the net as an administrator. It is safer to have a separate user account as it limits the damage caused by malware. Using the smart screen filter and in private browsing helps. Firefox with NoScript and the HTTPS Everywhere add-on is safer than Internet Explorer. There is no guaranteed security.

Hello,

I've visited this site many times when in need for advice and it has been very helpful over the years. However, this is my first post so before I continue, thank you for the wonderful service and hello to all.

I run a business that provides tools for online betting/trading. We use a tool provided by one betting agency that provides us with a way to link our software with the users accounts. This tool is called Netbet Pro and is written in .Net.

I believe that the issue may have something to do with the Runtime Libraries and/or .Net Framework as we had the same problem years ago on some XP machines and Vista machines. The problem back then was resolved by installing both and viola, the software would work.

The software works fine on Windows 8 and all other Windows os right back to 98 but it does not work as expected on Windows 8.1. Instead of seeing the application (really just a viewer that connects to an online account and shows online info) complete with account login, we see a white screen with no buttons, logos, general info or login area. Installing runtime libraries and .net framework has not resolved the issue nor has running in compatibility mode.

What could the significant diffrerence be between 8 and 8.1 that could cause this problem? If some is happy to help and needs to see it first hand, I can provide a link to download the application in question.

Answer:Program works on 8 but not 8.1

Hello Bettortrader

What could the significant diffrerence be between 8 and 8.1 that could cause this problem?

This simple diagnostic tool was always used up to 8.1, where it will not now run, on 8.1. DDS Tool.
Several other known programs work on Windows 8 but  not on 8.1 - I am not able to give the full details why, but it is well known, and most likely not your computers.
Not much else I can add, but others may have extras to add as why this is, but it just is that 8.1 is a "remodeled" version, internally .....

My problem is with a program installed in the XP partition. It is a transport stream reader (TSReader) for satellite TV utilizing

problem is that sometimes the program will not open at all yet it will show as running in Task Manager under

I found this useful after install of a new program, as I am on dial up and found the program great if one was having a slower start up occurring, as you could actually see the order of the programs.

Need help, hope someone knows of the program and can point me to it>

Hello. I'm a newbie here. I posted a different problem earlier today, and noticed a new one when I ran the TSG System Info utility. It shows I have PC Cleaner Pro as my antivirus program.

Here is what it says: Antivirus: PC Cleaner Pro, Updated: Yes, On-Demand Scanner: Disabled

I use AVG, not PC Cleaner Pro. It is an on-demand scanner and I thought it was enabled.

I searched my hard drive for PC Cleaner Pro and it doesn't show up. It isn't listed in my programs, either, so I cannot uninstall it. Is there any way I can get rid of it? Why isn't my AVG information showing, instead?

I was hoping someone here has used karaoke software before and can guide me to the program they think is the best?

I have mp3's (can convert them to another audio format if necessary) and the lyrics to them... now I just want to make it play the audio and display the text on the screen, highlighting the current word the song is on.

Most recently I tried a winamp plugin called evil lyrics, and it was a GREAT idea, with winamp visualization it looked so cool.... only it didnt work 95% of the time... words would come up for wrong parts of the song, the lyrics wouldnt come up at all... it got all out of sync and was horrible...

but man i wish it worked.

Any help please?

I have a modeling/drafting program (Rhino) that used to work fine. Then it just stopped and one of those send error report messages came up. Those error reports can provide essential reports and details that might lead you to the source of the problem. Follow the links or details.

Have you checked the vendors website for updates/patches?

You can try to right-click the .exe file of the program itself and then click the compatibility tab and try to step down to a previous version of windows? I know you said it worked prior to this, but I'm just trying to offer suggestions.

But - if I start out in the folder where the picture is and try to double-click the exact same picture to get it to open, I get a message saying "The version of this file is not compatible with the version of Windows you're running. Check your computer's system information to see whether you need an x86 (32-bit) or x64 (64-bit) version of the program, and then contact the software publisher."
Now I understand incompatibility issues, but if that's the problem, it should not work at all, right? What on earth is going on? I really need to be able to open the pictures from their folders. Anybody have any ideas?

Hi, this is my first post, thanks in advance for reading.

I have a PC running XP SP3. I freshly re-installed everything on the machine 2/3 weeks ago. Everything has been running as normal, and I have not installed, downloaded or used anything out of the ordinary, and in fact have only surfed, received emails and written word documents.

The PC powers up at normal speed, runs at normal speed, and is generally fine. I can open my computer, open folders, copy files etc. For all intents and purposes all is fine.

However, if I open a program, it will initially open fine, but subsequently freeze itself, and then the system, normally on the "second" task you ask it to perform

for instance: double click google chrome, opens fine. load one website. fine. open another tab, everything grinds to a halt. OR you're copying some files from one place to another, you open a very small program, same problem.

the pc is clean and tidy, no viruses, (as far as i can tell) all defragged, plenty of space, no hardware conflicts (its been fine at the current spec for nearly 10 months) likewise, i think with software...

I've never had an issue like this before...Is it likely a component on way out or another issue? just so i know where to start?

Answer:XP works normally, locks after opening any program

Welcome to Techspot supermunky. Let's see what we can do:

Chrome is the browser- let's think of that separately from a 'program.' The browser is what you use to access the internet. Bet you knew that already!

Programs are installed. They use hard drive 'space' when closed and when you open a program, you use RAM- that's your memory. Please go to the Control Panel> System> Genera; tab> find the RAM figure and give it to me.

You may have plenty of 'space'- you would use that to save files and folders, install programs, apps, etc. But you need RAM to run them. If you would like to share other information about your system, it would be appreciated.

Two additional questions: Why did you do a reinstall? Did you have the same problem before doing it?

I'm working on a presentation, and I'd like to make some simple diagrams. Paint sucks but I also don't want to deal with any advanced software, even if it's free. I need it to be simple. More specifically, this is sort of along the lines of the kind of diagram I want to make or edit:

This is from a paper. Let's say I want to take that and edit it a bit by adding another layer to it, consisting of a different color. And put in some labels. Or let's say I want to make something similar from scratch.

I mean, I'm sure I could do it in Paint, but is there something out there that would be almost as simple as Paint is but not as retarded?

I would never be suggesting to regular Microsoft Office users that OpenOffice is a reasonable replacement. It's only reasonable if you cannot afford to buy Microsoft Office. hello everyone,
I am facing a peculiar problem.
I was working in my labs on 17" monitor on VB program and nwo a days om working on the same program on my 15" monitor @home.
The problem is that due to the difference in the monitor size, my forms are messed up and some of my controls have disappeared.

Can ne1 guide me regarding this to keep the form of the same size and to work in different sizes monitor.

Answer:VB program works differently in different monitors

Hey pallavimahajan,

First off my VB is a little rusty, but if i remember correctly there is a property of every element on a form for the measurement used when calculating its position. Unfortunately i dont have VB installed at the moment but the property is right at thje bottom of the list (the list with caption, name etc in it) and i think some of the options in it are cm's inches etc. Play around with some of these.

Once again my VB is rusty, this could be a figment of my imagination but i am pretty certain you can change the measurements VB uses for its positioning.

Hope it helps

Is there a free antivirus suite that works just like Norton 360?

Answer:A free program that works just like Norton 360?

Well looking at free you may not get the same 'amount' of features but theres a few good options out there. The typical model now is to offer 'free' skeleton versions of AV which will be more a straight up scanner, maybe some active protection.

Avast is a really popular option these days for AV, AVG is another decent option. Theres quite a few out there if you do a little looking and some mild research you can probably find something that covers your needs and will simply work the way you want it.

Sorry that wasn't a super definitive answer heh, but AV choice can be hotly contested so opinions vary. (Personally I tend to use AVG or Avast, usually AVG though).

Answer:Need spyware removal program that actually works

One antispyware solution is no longer enough. You normally have to use two or three -- run one after the other -- to ensure that you get everything.

Another good freeware program is SUPERAntiSpyware. Believe it or not, Windows Defender also does a good job.

As a last resort, use HijackThis! But it's a very in-depth scanner, so you may want to read up on how to use it (effectively) first.

Hello.
Just joined.  My hell started about 2 weeks ago.  Everything was going well, I had just updated malwarebytes [mbam]when I got a message from them asking if I would try their new version I had bought my old version some years ago. They made the new version sound like the best thing since gold, and I finally did download it tho my motto is 'if it ain't broke don't fix it ; not in this day and age."
Their customer service isn't bad; it's like this:  I thanked 'god' they aren't where I can reach them.
To summarize, they have no phone support; it is all by email. It took almost a week for them to get back to me.  They only half read my emails and considered none of my needs, just started demanding non-applicable things.  I had to repeat everything to them over and over innumerable times.  I lost time, money, health, work, and told them so and it was so what.

Their great new version closed itself everytime I went online.  I made scans with 5 top programs, the machine was clean, but that didn't satisfy them.  I got a pro out and he left with a good bit of my money after pronouncing my machine amazingly clean and good running tho an antique.  [I do everything for it- i have a new one I never use.] Malwarebytes didn't care.  By now I was screaming to get the program I paid for back.  The only reason I was messing with them still was because that was a good program that kept us safe.  I paid for it and should hav...
