Onboard Speakers Only Play One At A Time

Question: Onboard Speakers Only Play One At A Time

Hello!

I had an issue recently where I upgraded from OEM Vista x86 to Windows 7 Professional x86. There was very little sound coming from the internal speakers. I also had major BSODs from then, so obviously I was focusing my attention on the BSODs as a priority.

That issue has been resolved, however, or, at least, I implemented a workaround - reinstalling Vista. I no longer have BSODs.

The audio, however, is still extremely quiet. I've checked the following:

Went into properties and maximised the 'levels' on everything.

Went into volume mixer and maxed everything.

Went into Devmgmt.msc and tried updating drivers - drivers already up-to-date.

SOMETHING I HAVE NOTICED: I have two internal speakers as well as what I guess is a subwoofer (I'm sorry, I'm terrible with hardware - its icon looks like a box server or something. I'm currently at work so I'll upload screenshots when I get home).
ONLY ONE SPEAKER PLAYS AT A TIME. I can change between the speakers by right clicking and saying "set as default speaker" and that plays sound out of one at a time with no problems, unless I choose the subwoofer(?).

Is there a way to make both speakers play at the same time, instead of just using one of them?

All help appreciated!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Onboard Speakers Only Play One At A Time

Without knowing what kind of speakers and how they are connected, we can't really comment on the problem. More info is needed.

Normally, if the speakers are connected correctly both to the PC and internally in the speaker system, you can go to the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel, Playback section. Your "Speakers" should be set as the Default playback device and then you can click on Configure to configure the type of speaker system you have and also test the speakers.

Answer:HP dv6-2170us will not play sound from either onboard speakers OR

Right click the speaker icon in the lower right, then select Playback devices from the menu. When the small window pops up, see if there's a green check mark on Speakers. If not, click on Speakers then click on Set as Default. Click Apply, then OK.

Using a 3.5mm stereo mini phone plug to RCA jack adapter I have managed to connect my comps sound to the radio and it works. However, due to a fit of stupidity I have overlooked the fact that only either the radio's speakers or the computer's speakers can be connected to the computer's sound output at once.

I am wondering if its possible to have both my radio's speakers as well as my computer's speakers play at the same time because I would like to achieve a surround sound effect because of the way my room is made. My computer has a jack slot behind that looks like " (<-->)" , almost like that ordinary output one which looks like "(<-). Can that be used as an output slot as well? Cuz when I tried putting the radio into the (<-->) slot and the comps speakers into the (<-) or vice versa, only the one put into the (<-) will play.

Answer:How to make radio speakers and computer speakers play at the same time?

Go get a splitter. I have my audio output setup using a splitter and it works fine. You can hook up both devices to the 1 output jack on your pc.

Hello,

I am currently working on a homemade project in my free time called Project Surround. I am trying to get a full surround sound setup in my room. I have 2 wired speakers in the front and a Bluetooth speaker in the back. The problem is I need both the wired and Bluetooth speakers to play at the same time. Any way I can do that?

Answer:Play Audio from Wired Speakers and Bluetooth Speakers at the same time

Windows only allows one default audio playback device, thus unless you can find some third party app that will allow both, you won't be able to do that. You will need a full surround PC sound system.

I think it was working fine yesterday but today both are working at the same time.. I've tried rebooting but the problem still happens.

Answer:Speakers and headphones play at the same time?

Hi there
This sometimed happens with Realtek HD sound cards when the sound card is integrated into the Mobo.

Download and re-install the driver AND HD audio application.

(even if your sound card is not a REALTEK one I'd still re-install the driver (from the MOBO driver set / sound card CD) AND THE APPLICATION -- most of the sound card driver software usually has an application as well (such as a mixer. graphic equalizer etc).

Cheers

So, my problem is that both the speakers and the headphones play in my HP laptop at the same time.

When I go into my playback devices I have three options:

1. ATI HDMI Output
2. Speakers and headphones (same device)
3. headphones

When my headphones are connected the third still shows them as unconnected but sound will play through both the speakers and the headphones.

I am wondering if there's any way that I can fix this so that I can have sound play out of just one or the other.

I have tried the following things:

-system restore
-updating my sound drivers

Thanks for any future help.

Answer:Headphones and speakers play at the same time

With no system specs specified we can't say exactly. But, in newer HD audio sound systems they autodetect when something is plugged in. If you have one of these devices it is either the driver or there is a hardware problem with the sound chip.

I'm wondering if instead of buying a splitter, I can just have the headphone and speaker playing at the same time.

I have a stereo system that sounds better than the pc speakers, but the bass isn't as good as the pc speaker's subwoofer. All i want to do is be able to plug in the stereo system into the front headphone slot while having the pc speakers plugged into the back speaker slot and be able to play both at the same time.

What would be even better, but probably not possible, is if I could hook the pc speaker's subwoofer up to the stereo system but thats probably a lot of trouble..

Is there a way that I could make the 2 pc speakers and the 2 stereo system speakers be recognized by the computer as a 4 speaker system? again, probably impossible or too much trouble.

Answer:How can i play through headphones and speakers at the same time?

You plug the stereo system into the rear channel and the PC speakers to the front channel (or vice versa) - that's what i have set up and it works just fine.

You need to fiddle with your soundcard settings to get it to run in 4 speaker mode.

I have a Satallite L500. I am having problems with my sound.
When I insert my jacks for the headphones and play something, sound comes out of both the headphones as well as the laptop speakers.
I want to turn off the laptop speakers but still receive sound from the headphones.
There is a horrible "echo" when both headphones and speakers are on at the same time. I am new to Vista and for the life of I can't figure out what's going on.

When I first got the laptop everything worked fine. I then bought some speakers for those times I wanted to listen to external speakers.
I would unplug the headphone jacks and plug in the speaker jack.
Ever since doing this, whenever I plug in the headphones the laptop speakers are also playing.

Also, when I first got the laptop whenever I would plug in the headphone jacks, a message would pop up on the screen indicating that the microphone and audio jacks were detected. I no longer get this message.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanx

Answer:Satellite L500: headphones and speakers play at the same time

hi tango123,
i think some sort of "confusion" is in the registry.
just deinstall the sounddriver
after that reboot and reinstall (look for the current driver at toshibas driver downloadsite)
make sure you use a stereo jack!

for the echo issue try to mute the mic to test.

I have a pair of Creative T40 speakers plugged into the 3.5mm jack on my laptop. I got hold of a bluetooth speaker and that was recognised straight-away.

I have installed a large monitor (32inch) to the laptop on which I work as well as watch movies and play games. I was wondering if I could setup that audio, be it music, gaming audio or movie audio could be played through BOTH sets of speakers.

The main T40's are on either side of the monitor and I have the bluetooth speaker behind me on a shelf. That would, kind-of, give me surround sound. Or when I have people over I could get better sound if I could just move the bluetooth speaker to a different part of the room.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thank you.

I recently got a new HP zBook 15 with the slim docking station and am experiencing an issue related to the speaker output. If I plug my external powered Bose speakers into the line out of the docking station I get sound out of both the external Bose speakers and the internal laptop speakers at the same time. In addition the sound from the Bose speakers sounds horrible...tinny and completely lacking any bass. If I plug the Bose speakers into the headphone jack on the side of the laptop (not the docking station) then I get great sound and ONLY the Bose speakers produce sound (which is what I want). Is there a fix to get only the external speakers to play when plugged into the docking station audio out? I've uninstalled and re-installed the Conexent ISST Audio drivers twice...no change. I've tried messing with the B&O Sound Control panel, but it doesn't have any configuration for the audio ports. I've messed around in the Windows Playback devices control panel, but can't seem to find a way to shut off the internal laptop speakers. FYI, this is a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro. All Mircosoft updates installed. All HP updates installed via the HP Support Assistant. Latest laptop BIOS installed. Help! The sound output sounds HORRIBLE through the docking station. There must be a fix.

I recently put together a new system with a fresh installation of Windows 7 64 bit. I cannot get sound to come from my speakers no matter what I have tried. I have trolled through all the forums I could find on the subject, and tried every possible solution, to no avail. I am hoping I simply missed something somewhere along the way, so I will list my specs, as well as everything I have tried thus far.

I am going to attempt to provide as much information as possible, but if I miss something you need to get the full picture, please let me know.

Specs first:

MSI 870A-G54 motherboard (with onboard audio - Chipset integrated by Realtek? ALC892)
AMD Athlon II X2 255 CPU - 3.1 Ghz Dual Core
Corsair 8 Gb Ram - DDR3 1333 MHz
Windows 7 64 bit (also tried to get this working on Vista 32 bit installation on same machine, with same results)
XFX ATI Radeon HD 5550 Graphics Card
Seagate 1 TB SATA 300 HDD
Antec 500W PSU
Creative 5.1 surround speakers - The jacks are the usual black, orange and green, for Center/Sub, Rear, and Left/Right
Now, here are the steps I have followed:
Installed Win 7, and soon discovered sound was not configured properly. The system kept picking the optical output as the default device, even though there was no optical device connected, and it also showed that the speakers were not plugged in, even though they were, as in the pic below
After digging through various forums, got advice to click on the Connector Settings (the icon that looks like a folder) in th... Read more

Hi all
i have my surround system plugged into my sound card. but i also have decent onboard sound. my chair is an x-rocker hurricane gaming chair with 2.1 surround in. can i have my chair plugged into the onboard and my surround in soundcard so i can hear through both. playing the same audio.

its not a must that i do this. it would just b nice as i have to hav this kind of chair n its a shame not to use the speakers in it anymore

any help is much apreciated

Answer:speakers plugged into soundcard and onboard

Windows and most if not all programs only allow for audio playback through one device at a time. What you could do is use something like this,

Newegg.ca - Rosewill - 3.5mm Stereo Splitter cable (6 INCHES)

to split the output from the sound card to both the chair and speakers.

Hello everyone!

I recently found out that my dedicated sound card (xfi xtreme gamer) was being faulty so I had to remove it. Now I'm trying to

enable the onboard sound again which I had disabled before because they were interfering. My mobo is the ASUS P7P55D which uses
the VIA Audio drivers. I have installed them and afterwards I installed the VIA AUDIO HD Deck which displays all the ports/options.
The problem is that whenever I try to plugin my speakers or headphones, they do not get detected by the system as being plugged in.
The only port that works on the front and back panel is the mic jack. This one does get recognized. My headphone/speakers are fine,
tested them on another device. Also when I open up the sound panel, I can see the audio playing with the green spikes so to say.
Does anyone have any clue on what might be my problem?

Thanks a bunch in advance!

Hey,Recently, i decided to actually buy a headset so i can game with a couple buddies of mine. I plugged everything in, and couldnt get it to work. I have already checked the forums, and from what I have found, the problems were fixed with things I have already tried. Currently, I have my TV plugged in via HDMI, have windows 7 pro and have done the following:Made sure "Speakers" are my default playback device and "Microphone" as my default recording device. I have also disabled the audio from all other devices, and used driversweep to uninstal them from my PC to make sure. The device tests positively (having the volume scale go up and down next to it), but no sound comes from the speakers.Made sure that the board is actually reading the ports as being used. They show up in my Realtek sound device manager, as well as in my bios. I have also tried the POS windows troubleshooter, which has told me that my devices are working properly. My guess is that the HDMI is messing with it some how, but I have tried the simple things already. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Answer:Onboard speakers and microphone wont work

HDMI takes over the audio signal...not sure you can have both active unless the sound device supports it...

Hi All,My friend has got 6.1 sound onboard his Gigabyte GA-VAX mobo. He has just bought a set of 5.1 speakers. The connection is via three jacks to the back of the comp. However, the m/b has only 3 sockets, one for line in, one for mic, one for line out as per normal, unlike the sockets on a 5.1 card which has 5 sockets. Where do the jacks go into on his m/b as there is only one line out socket?

Answer:Prob connecting 5.1 speakers to onboard sound.

if only using onboard line out best you are gonna get with a 3mm jack to 2xphonos is pro logic surround.will need to buy a 5.1 sound card.

You probably won't need any drivers to make it work. There should be a 1/8 inch audio cable that plugs into your monitor from the computer. Usually the port are green, in case you don't know which it is.

I have a T61 Type 7659 running Windows 7. My Audio sounds fine thru external speakers and headsets, however, audio playing thru my onboard speakers is distorted. I replaced internal speakers from another working T61. Same problem. I placed another working windows 7 imaged hard drive in affected laptop and still had same result.Any Suggestions save replacing motherboard would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Answer:Distorted audio output on T-61 onboard speakers

You've done a good job of eliminating bad speakers or software as the cause, leaving only the integrated sound card (replace motherboard), or a setting in the bios (if any) that could be the cause. I suspect it's a hardware problem (unfortunately), but there is a possibility that there is some type of eletronic interference this laptop is generating that the sound system is picking up. I'd remove any devices you can, including your optical drive and wireless wifi card and unplug the cpu fan (don't leave it unplugged for long), to see if it changes. Also see if moving/wiggling the speaker wires changes the distortion. If nothing you do has any effect at changing the symptoms, then you probably won't be able to find a viable solution, short of replacing the system board. However, another member may have seen these symptoms and could be better able to help you.

Hello all, this is my first post. Bought new SL500 last week. Win. XP onboard with Vista upgrade. Running XP as supplied. I am not a noob on desktop models, been online for 15 years but this is my first laptop. Far as I can tell at this point everything works but the onboard volume is barely audible at maximum. (25 on the display.) I have been into properties, checked volume controls, everything looks to be optimal but the onboard sound is barely audible. I connected my headphones and dropped in a DVD movie and about experienced nerve damage from the blast until I backed the volume off to 5/6 so I believe the sound card is OK. The card does check out in properties and in hardware shows I have the latest drivers. The onboard volume does adjust up and down but has extremely low volume at maximum. Can anyone help me or do I need to send the machine back for service? At this point I am about ready to eat the restocking fee, cut my losses and return the thing. Any help, (in as simple terms as possible), will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!

Answer:New SL500. Onboard Speakers Volume Almost Inaudible

I have the same problem, but mine is the SL 300 which I got about 4 weeks ago. Overall, I'm happy with it except for the low volume and I had already read about that from reviews online before I bought it so it wasn't a surprise. It can get annoying sometimes when you're trying to listen to the audio from an online video and you have to press your ears up agains the speakers and still can't make out what's being said. I haven't tried updating the drivers, but it seems that doesn't resolve the issue anyway since you've already tried that. To me it's something I can live with but I have a feeling there isn't anything that can be done to make them any louder. I contemplated returning mine because I kept hearing grinding noises at startup and thought it was the hard drive, but it turned out to be the cd-rom drive and I decided I can live with that too. good luck

In an earlier thread, I was looking for help with rocksmith on PC, one of the things I was going to try is running my USB speakers from Amazon Basic directly through my motherboard audio, somehow, they do not work, I have enabled onboard audio in the BIOS, and I have a Razer Tiamat running through an Asus Xonar DSX PCI E slot. I have tried setting the speakers to the default device, but that does not work either, I have also tried disabling the sound card in device manager.

Answer:A100 Amazon USB speakers not working with onboard audio

Need help setting up Rocksmith 2014 for PC

Quote:

I have also tried disabling the sound card in device manager.

Go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc, right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager are there any devices with yellow flags? Or devices with Red X's? Yellow flags need drivers, Red X's are disabled devices. You cannot disable the Sound Card and expect sound to come out of it.
Make sure you have the USB cable plugged in and the Green Mini Audio jack plugged into the Green Audio input on the computer. Turn the knob of the powered speakers to On.

Go to Control Panel/Sound. Under Playback what is listed? Highlight Speakers or whatever Sound Device is listed and press the Configure button then Test. Does the Graph go up and down? If there is more then one Audio device then test all of them. If one is working that is not the Default Audio device then make that the default.
If there are yellow flags for Audio device in the Device Manager, go to the computer manufacturers support/download drivers, type in your Make and Model# and choose your version of Windows 10 (eg) 32 bit or 64 bit and download the Audio driver and any other drivers you need from the Device Manager for your model.

Hi all

I used to have a Gateway PC with a set of really decent Boston Acoustics BA735 speakers on it. I've upgraded to a new PC with a P8Z68-V motherboard that has the onboard Realtek ALC892 audio. (I'm using Windows 7 64 bit) I want to connect my BA735 speakers. I know that these speakers are digital speakers and so need to be connected to a digital input. They are NOT SPDIF however. The old computer had a Creative Soundblaster Audio card that you could set to analogue or digital output. I know the Realtek ALC892 has digital capability, but I need to be able to output this on the main speaker channel. The cable that goes to the BA735 speakers has a 3.5mm Jack connection for plugging into the normal speaker output from the PC.

When I look at the sound settings in control panel, there are 3 choices of playback device (Speakers, Realtek Digital Output and Realtek Digital Output (Optical)) I'm a little confused as to why there are two digital playback devices. Obviously the optical one is the SPDIF connection, but what's the other. I thought I could use it to output to the BA735 digital speakers, but there seems to be no digital output connection for it. I can make it the default device and the little green bars jump up and down to tell me that audio is playing, but I get no sound if I plug into the speaker sockets.

Can I use digital speakers with the Realtek ALC892 onboard sound?

Answer:Boston Acoustics BA735 Digital speakers and Realtek alc892 onboard snd

Tried connecting them via USB?

One is a digital coax connection and the other is optical. Not sure why it is showing both though, as there is no coax connection on the motherboard. Unless one of the analogue jacks can be changed to digital from somewhere within the Realtek control panel.

You still have the old computer? If so you could always pull the old sound card out of it and use it in the new.

Ok heres the most updated information. Its a fresh format of Windows XP Home and I have tried to uninstall and reinstall the drivers I have all the chipset drivers installed for the board and it still does this. I run virus scanners and they find nothing. You think maybe the MBR could be infected and I need to make a new one? But if I do this will the information on my hard drive still be retained? If not its no big deal but I would rather try to keep all my stuff that I have on my computer.

Answer:Getting AGP and Onboard gfx errors when trying to play a game(PLZ HELP)

Getting the errors on both the onboard and the add-in card, and only in games, points to a software problem rather than a hardware problem. Have you run windows update and installed the latest version of DirectX?

Also, sometimes problems like this have simple solutions, check the game's manufacturer for any updates, defrag the hard drive, make sure your motherboard chipset drivers are installed, make sure the hard drives are set for DMA.

If you can give us any more information on what your seeing; IE: blurring, stuttering, jagged lines, fuzziness, tearing, etc, it would be very useful in determining the problem.

At this point, the MBR isn't a suspect in the problem. Are you asking this due to having hard drive problems, or virus problems lately?

I have a sound blaster sound card that is just laying around because I have my on-board audio, which means I cant use my front case jacks if I use the sound card (doesn't connect with my sound card). Is it true that if I have my sound card in with its drivers and don't disable my on-board, I can plug my mic into the front and talk/get audio and have my speakers hooked up to the sound card? Doesn't have to be at the same time, just separate would even be fine. Just wondering before I pop this in and install drivers etc..

As always, thanks for the help TF, always appreciated!

Hi I have gotten much better sound quality by using a USB sound card dongle, connecting a 2.5mm wired headset or amplified speakers (using a Turtle Beach USB dongle). Now I also would like to use a Bluetooth wireless speaker, and using a bluetooth 4.0 USB dongle works great, using the onboard sound chip. Now, how could I use both a new (better) sound chhipset than the onboard one, and Bluetooth 4.0 for wireless transmission? I don't know of anybody makine USB bluetooth 4.0 x soundchip combo ..

Hey,

As of 4 hours ago I became the owner of a new 6600gt. It was a Christmas present to myself so I could get a better visual experience out of my games.

I installed the card fine along with the drivers. I then changed my desktop settings etc. I then proceeded to load up wow. It loaded but I found that it was rendered with the onboard graphics (This is because it looked absolutely shocking). It then crashed. Every game so far has done the same thing.

I did some research and have done the following to try and solve this problem:

I went about a thorough clean up of my ATI drivers from my previous card. I did this by following this.

This however didnt help. I still have this problem..

At current I am looking try and shut off the onboard graphics via the bios. This will happen after I find an online manual telling me how.

Any help would be appreciated as I am very keen to go back to playing WOW.

My specs:

AMD 3200
1 gig of RAM
NVIDIA 6600 gt (AGP) previously a Radeon 9550 (AGP)
K8T800 8237 motherboard made by NEC Computers

Any help would be greatt - thanks

I am yet to determine if it is due to a problem with my IE7 that causes it or not as it happens during the time i am playing world of warcraft. everything freezes i get disconnected. i go to my connections and see my pppoe connected but it is not connected. when i try connect it then connects but i get no network traffic. this seems to happen after something is closed but i get no message. i get no errors in my event viewer either. its like the pc looses the network adaptors for no aparent reason and still says it ic connected and only way i can find a way to solve it is to restart.

Answer:XP seems to looses onboard network card during game play or web browsing

Have you got the latest service pack installed? if not, install it.
(For Windows XP the latest and final service pack is SP3)

Then download & install the latest wireless adapter driver from your PC/Laptop manufacturer's website. It will probably be listed in the 'network' category on your PC model's driver download page.

I have a sound blaster Live! 24 bit soundcard in my pc and my motherboard has a built in sound card. Can I used both at the same time without causing problems on my computer? (I want to use the sound blaster card for my main speakers and the onboard soundcard for my microphone headset so I don't have to keep swapping the plugs at the back of the pc).

Answer:Can I use a soundcard and onboard sound at the same time?

Depending on the age and type of PC your CD may have a headphone jack, independant of the soundcard. Otherwise you have to choose by setting the multimedia options in the control panel. In theory it is possible to listen to one whilst recording on the other, but not to have both outputting at the same time.
If you can ever find a way to do this theysay there is a pacific island where you can get a second pair of ears fitted to hear both sets of speakers at once.

Like the title says. I have a MSI Cyclone GTX 460 768MB OC. I want to use it at the same time as my Onboard Graphics (I have a Gigabyte GA-880GA-UD3H motherboard).
The reason I want to do this is because my graphics card has x2 DVI connectors and x1 mini HDMI connector. My mobo has VGA and HDMI connector, but I cannot use them because my graphics card makes the onboard graphics disabled. I want to use the HDMI or VGA connectors to connect to my LG 42" LED TV (my TV only has x1 VGA and x4 HDMI). That's why I want to use the onboard graphics (I don't want to buy a HDMI to miniHDMI adapter). And I also don't want to have to remove my Graphics Card just to connect HDMI (or have to disable my GTX 460 because then I won't be able to play games as good).
To sum it up, I want to be able to use both graphics cards without disabling or removing a graphics card and be able to connect to TV by VGA or HDMI.

If you have any questions or if I was unclear on something, please respond and I will do my best to answer.

I have a USB headset that I use for gaming, but want to use the 3.5mm jacks on the back of my pc to run a pair of desktop speakers to play music or youtube, etc. I do not want to have to switch the default between the USB headset and the speakers, but to have sound coming out of both at the same time. Is this possible with windows 7?

Answer:using USB headset and onboard audio plugs at same time

ctanner, welcome to the forums.

In Windows default audio settings, no it isn't possible. You can however do it if the media player you are using is anything other than WMP and allows you to select which audio device to use when more than two are present. Winamp for example allows you to choose which device to use for playback in its settings.

I just bought some 5.1 speakers, and only 2 out of the 5 speakers are playing. I did a test through windows, and all 5 of the speakers are working...but for everything only 2 speakers are used. I know that .mp3's will not be played on all 5.1 speaker systems, but I have downloaded special sound clips 'designed for 5.1 surround sound systems' and still only the 2 speakers play. In audio and hardware properties, I have my computer set to "5.1 surround system" and even in my computer games only 2 speakers play. Any help or suggestions?

I have a speaker system that consists of a sub-woofer and four smaller speakers. Until a week ago; they were all working properly. Now they seem to have a mind of their own. Here are the symptoms of the problem.
When Windows starts; the start-up sound plays through the front speakers and the sub only. When I play an audio cd on Windows Media Player; the sound plays through the front speakers and the sub only. If I play a video game on the cd-rom; it plays through all of the speakers. If I listen to music sent to me by E-mail; I hear it through all of the speakers also.
All I can think is that I must messed with a "setting" somewhere by mistake. My sound card has lots of "toys" that I play with alot. Maybe that's where the problem is ??? I dunno. Help is appreciated....I would like to get all my speakers back all the time. Thanks in advance..........Joe

I run Win 2000 Pro and my sound card is Sound Blaster Live Platinum 5.1

Hi firends, How are you doing? I'm new in this forum. I need a help with a situation in the company that I'm working on a project. The fact is that they have a Lenovo ThinkCentre M58 (MT-M 9660) with a Dual Core 2 Processor and there is a necessity to Extend the video in this Desktop for a two LCD Monitors 23'. They bought an PCI Express Card (GeForce 8400) to use with the onboard Card (intel Graphics) in order to Extend the Video to another monitor and open two applications in each monitor. I try to do this but the Machine only recognizes one Monitor. I've changed the BIOS in the "Advanced Chipset Features" --> "Initiate Graphics Adapter" to all the options (IGD, PCI/PEG, PEG/IGD, PEG/PCI, PCI/IGD) but the S.O that I'm using (Windows 7 Professional 32 Bits) seems not recognizes the both Graphic Cards at the same time. Is there other configuration in the BIOS or in the S.O that I'm not tried? are there any others solutions to make this happens in this Desktop? (I know this Desktop is out of age). Any Help will be useful. Thanks a lot! André Mascarenhas.

Hi,

I have a normal desktop computer with a HDMI splitter that delivers video to my monitor as well as an image to my Panasonic TV on port HDMI 3 (HDMI 1 is TV and 2 is Playstation).

On my computer, audio is played using Bose Companion 5 speakers and this works well.

Is it possible to play audio on my TV as well as from my Bose speakers? My Samsung monitor does not include speakers so no sound will be played from it so that will not be a problem.

When selecting playback options in the Sound settings I seem only able to select sound out either via Bose or the monitor (that also delivers sound to the TV)...

Hope you can help me

Answer:Is it possible to play sound both from PC speakers and out via TV?

It is possible but it depends on the capabilities and settings of your sound card that you failed to list in your system specs, and unless you can sync up the two outputs you will have an echo.

The trick involves fooling your sound card into thinking it has two outputs for sound by funneling the TV sound through your microphone.

Like the topic states, once my computer automatically goes into hibernate mode (after a period of non-use), the speakers won't play when I get back onto the computer and Windows comes back up. The only way I can get them to function again is to restart the computer.

Is there a setting that I don't know about?

Please help!!
EDIT: I am using XP SP2

Answer:Speakers Won't Play After Hibernation

Sorry But that shouldn't happen... try posting again in the Audio, Video, and Graphics section near the bottom half of the forum.
I've been Googling in my spare time and I actually found a similar topic on the forums in the audio section about hibernation and speaker problems. I don't think that one has been resolved yet, so I'm still trying ;)

I have experienced this problem before, when i take the speakers plug-in out and plug i back in the sound doesn't work any more i fixed it a couple of times but can't remember how i done it. so could you please help me solve this issue

Answer:my PC used to play sound through speakers not any more why?

Why do you need to unplug the speakers anyway? When you plug them back in, make sure you plug them in to the correct jack on the back of your PC. This is usually the one with a light-green bezel. The other two jacks (blue & pink) are for line-in and microphone. After plugging them back in, you may just need to restart Windows to fix the problem. If it's already plugged into the correct jack and still no sound after restarting Windows, try re-installing the audio driver which you can download from your PC manufacturer's website, or if it's a soundcard which was not fitted by the PC manufacturer, download the driver from the soundcard manufacturer's website.

I had to restore my computer cause it crashed so I have reloaded Windows XP but now I can't seem to get my plug n play speakers to work... When I plug them in it doesn't show up anything new and also the speaker volume icon doesn't show on the bottom right and I have also gone into sounds to see if I can add a device and it won't allow me to do this either. Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Answer:plug n play speakers

I doubt the problem is the speakers. You need to install the driver for your sound card. Many sound "cards" are part of the motherboard ie onboard sound. We would need to know your exact specs in order to find a driver for you.

I have an HP 550 laptop running Win XP SP3. I use the headphones most of the time. Recently I found that when I plug the headphones in, the speakers keep playing and there seems to be no option anywhere to turn them off. The volume control only lists a single wave output device and Device Manager has no option or tab which differentiates between speakers and headphones. After 10 minutes of chasing my tail on the HP customer support site, which demanded an "SKU" (no description of same or information on where to find it, the link just goes back to the main support page and I'm having to start over from scratch picking my device type), or a product number and which wouldn't accept the P/N I entered ("more than 500 hits, please narrow the search" and back to the beginning we go yet again) - bearing in mind that I'm having to turn a plugged in, running laptop upside-down in order to find the label on the bottom of the machine, while I'm currently online and on the HP website trying to get help on the issue - I gave up looking for a BIOS update. My question is this: Is there any solution to the problem other than sending the machine in for repairs? And if there is a BIOS update, is there a direct link that doesn't involve surfing in circles on the HP support site, which seems to have been deliberately coded with the single purpose of driving innocent people insane? Thanks.

So my problem may be directly related to another issue that arose a few months ago. Around June my headphone jack broke inside of my laptop. Since then I have been using my speakers, which worked perfectly until two days ago. I have tried almost every solution: I have made sure my speakers are set at default, my volume is fine, I updated BIOS, I uninstalled, restored, and updated my audio driver, and I ran an audio test at startup screen (which passed!), but nothing is working. I should mention that during the audio test the sound worked perfectly fine, but there is no sound whatsoever now. Also, when I restared my laptop earlier (I've done it about 15 times now) I heard sound when it finished startup. I tried to refresh and restore my laptop, but all I get is "could not find the recovery environment." At this point I feel that all is left is to do a hard reset but I can't lose my files. Anyone able to help?

Hello, I'm new and wondering if i can be helped on this.

I have an audigy sound card with altec lansing 4.1 speakers. I want to listen to music, watch dvds, and all i ever seem to get is sound from the front 2 speakers. I have looked at the creative speaker diagnostic and set it up for 4.1 use and have run a sound test and all speakers work properly! i've then made sure this is synchronised with control panel (quadspeakers). However when playing audio -cd's,other audio..it only plays from 2 speakers.

any reasons why? solutions?

thanks

Answer:audio does not play from all speakers, but only front 2.

Stereo encoded audio is intended to only play out of the front channels, no problem there. For multichannel playback you need a multichannel source, e.g. 3D Audio supporting game, multi-channel audio (Certain music formats, not CD) & in the case of DVD your DVD player needs to support 4.1 output.
Beyond that, if sound test works fine there's nothing wrong.

My Speakers play when my Heaphones are plugged in

I have looked at previous solutions such as going to search and sound and changing to default. But on my control pannel of sound I only have the options of Speakers and Bluetooth Headphones not Speakers and Headphones as I assume I am supposed to have as any solution I have seen requires that.

Someone help urgently as I am going on holiday and would like to be able to watch films on my laptop

Answer:Speakers play when headphones are plugged in

First, are you using the correct sound driver? What do you show in the Device Manager for Sound? If it's "HD Audio Codec" that is most likely the problem as that is just a generic, basic function driver installed by Windows. If that is the case get the correct sound driver as that probably will fix it.

Some sound systems, such as those with RealTek sound, have a control panel with the option to have both the speakers and headphones on (as you have it now) or only the headset when a headset is plugged in.

If you have RealTek, go to Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and the RealTek HD Audio Manager will be listed. Access the manager and then click on Device Advanced Settings. The panel that comes up has the option. See my screenshot.
If you have some other sound, some have this option.

My Altec Lansing Xt1 speakers are not working. They were working for about 18 months fine until a few days ago.

My sound card is built in on my Asus motherboard and uses SoundMax Audio drivers.

Normally, when I plug them in, it'll switch the from my headphones (which is directly connected to the computer) to my speakers. However now, there is no more sound. My computer recognizes that it is connected. I click on Audio options, and my speakers are listed.

When I press the On/Off button there'll be about .5 sec to 1 sec which I hear some audio from my speakers but then it goes dead. Every time I turn it on and off, there's that split sec where some audio goes through.

However, it doesn't work anymore. I have tried
-Using a different usb power cord
-Plugging into other USB ports, including the front and back usb ports
-System restore to before the problem started
-Uninstalling the drivers for the speakers and letting it auto-install when I plug in again

It worked briefly when I plugged it into my front port. However, the next day when I plugged my speakers back in, it was non functional again.

Isn't Altec Lansing a decent brand, or are my speakers broken after less than 2 years? Any help would be appreciated - thanks.

Answer:Plug & Play Speakers not working

If your usb ports work properly with other plug n play devices, then it seems like you have a problem with the output on the speakers. Don't you have a warranty for the speakers? Send them for fixing.

I have headphone + mic in the 2 front jacks, and sub + speakers back.
When i use the headphone settings on the headphones, the sound is good in the headphones, but it wont play in the speakers, when i put "line out" on the headphones, it will play on both speakers and headphones.
The thing is, the sound is much worse on the headset when using line out on it.
Is there any solution?

When I go to the sound and audio devices part of the control pannel, it sais "No Audio Device"
When I go to the hardware part it says that everything is working properly.
I am running windows XP Home Edition
I was thinking my computer is confused and only thinks it is a monitor, but the speaker part has its own seperate plug (the little green type)

I don't know what else to say about it so I guess we can just start with that.

Greetings, I have a y510p laptop with the default RealTek audio drivers set up. I've been having problemswith my headphone jack and it doesn't seem to automatically turn off the Speakers anymore when I plug the headphones in. It used to detect the headphones when I plugged them in but it doesn't seem to do that anymore, so I assume the problem is with the hardware. The headphones work fine though.. Is there any way to turn off the Speakers without losing sound in the headphones? I wouldn't mind having to do this manually (I rarely use the speakers). So far I've tried installing the newest Drivers listed on this web page but with no success. Thanks in advance.

Your drivers may have a setting that allows you to play different things through the headphones than the speakers. I bet you could find a solution using that setting.

I installed all the Drivers, I installed all the software that came with the sound card(which isn't much), I changed the 2 channel to 5.1 in control pannel, clicked OK and Applied the changes. But sound will not come out of any thing but the front speakers. Not that I know of. Its either one or the other. You can have options on some sound devices for which headphone/speaker jacks are or aren't active but you can only have one default audio playback device at a time and thus everything gets routed through that device.

Greetings Reader,
I recently got 2 old "micro nucleus" speakers from a friend when they were cleaning out the apartment. I got a fairly cheap amplifier, plugged the speakers in, then found out that the amplifier output is through 2 3.5mm audio jacks. I tried just plugging these into my computer and messing around with Realtek HD Audio Manager, but I can't find a way to get one plug to play to the left speaker and one to play to the right. I've messed about with connection retasking, speaker balance etc. but cannot find a way to make this happen. I would purchase a Y splitter cable but I'm not sure if that keeps the left and right feeds separate. Ideally there would be some hidden setting or adjustment for this, but anything helps.
Thanks for your time (and hopefully your suggestion),
Duftyr

I own a Dell Inspiron 1420 and somehow the built-in laptop speakers won't play any sound at all, including when Windows start up. I run on a Windows Vista.
Anyway, I tried going to Device Manager to uninstall my sound thing called "High Definition Audio Device" but it still wouldn't work. Then I tried updating the driver, still does not work.
The audio does work when I plug in headphones to one of the outlet thing but only on one, I have two of those output jacks though.
Can someone please direct me to how I can fix this problem? Thanks.

Answer:Laptop speakers won't play sound at all

Try running the audio tests in Dell Diagnostics. These interactive audio tests are designed to narrow down the problem to either the software or hardware. The tests are independent of Windows and drivers, meaning it doesn't matter if those are working correctly or not. To run Dell Diagnostics1. Restart the computer and tap the f12 key as soon as it starts to boot up . 2. Select 'Diagnostic' from the boot menu. The computer will run its pre-boot assessment tests (PSA) before Dell Diagnostics starts. During the PSA you will hear some tones through the system speaker but this does not adequately test the audio hardware. Dell Diagnostics plays an instrumental piece of music complete with drums, so if you only hear some tones then you have only run the PSA.3. Dell Diagnostics should open after the PSA tests, or you should see an option to open it. If you have ever reformatted your entire hard drive then Dell Diagnostics will no longer be there as an option. In that case run it from the Drivers and Utilities (Resource) CD if you have one.4. Select 'Custom', then the audio tests. (At this point - after you have opened Dell Diagnostic custom - if you can't find the option to select the audio tests that is a symptom of a failed audio chip.)5. The tests will run. Alternate between using headphones and listening to speakers in case only one signal path is working. The tests will play some audio and ask you whether you heard it. 6. If you don't hear the... I had some sort of malware infection about a weak ago that would pop up like 18 "delayed write failure" error boxes and hid all my files. I used combofix to remove that infection. Most of my desktop and files and settings returned, but not all. I also did full scans with MSE and MBAM.

Now I have two major issues.
1. About every 5-10 minutes random music or advertisements play over the speakers, even when no applications (nothing, not even firefox) are running.
2. Clicks on google search results get routed to alabamaelection.net and then to various random sites (e.g. secure.bidvertiser.com)

Other symptoms:
1. I cannot turn on Windows firewall (I get a system error saying "Windows Firewall can't change some of your settings. Error Code 0x80070424)
2. Browsing and some other applications run VERY slowly
3. DDS took roughly 15 minutes to run

Hi, we've just bought a set of USB speakers with 3 cables on them: one with a red/pink tip, an identical one only green, and one with a usb cable on. Have put them into the audio red/green holes, and the only usb port I could find...and turned on...but the speakers are emitting a really horrible grating/howling/hissing noise all the time , and won't play any other sound.

(I don't think it's a problem with the sound card, because audio was working fine before we had to buy the speakers: our old monitor had built in speakers, then the picture went, and so we bought a new monitor...and only realized when we got it home and plugged it in that it didn't have built-in speakers like the other...stupid, I know...)

Anyway, can anyone tell me what we're doing wrong? There was no installation cd or instruction manual, so all we've done is plug the things in and restart. The computer doesn't seem to have noticed them.

Answer:new usb speakers making funny sound but won't play anything else

You will probably have to set them as the default device. A USB headset or speakers will work like a piece of hardware that must be installed... not like a regular set of speakers that uses an analog output.

You need to set the default sound device to the headphones instead of the speakers.

Just got this computer used today everything works great.
I will play music and all of a sudden 2 or 3 minutes into a song it stops playing.

The computer is a HP Envy 20 TouchSmart PC

Thanks!!

Answer:Speakers dont play music after 2 minutes or so

Are you sure the music file you are playing is ok? not trying to insult you or anything but I have had similar questions before from people, saying my video stops playing after 30 minutes, why........ erm because the videos was actually only 30 mins long!!!

Sometimes music files, if they are corrupt they will not play once they encounter a problem, I had this with files that I converted...

is this happening to all your music files?

Have you tried to update your audio drivers?

Also what application are you using to play this music files?

can you try VLC player and see if the same occurs with this?

I have a strange problem after re-installing Window 7 Home Premium onto a new Transcend SSD, having altered the BIOS drive mode to ACHI. All my data was backed up and re-installed with little trouble. But now I can't play music on WMP or anything else, and there are no system sounds at all.

I thought at first it was a matter of settings, and have altered everything I can think of, to no avail. I have uninstalled and re-installed all the sound devices, updated all the drivers I can see, and nothing works. However the restored files themselves are not corrupted, as I can hear them (and the system sounds) by plugging in earphones. The (Creative) speakers test properly in Control Panel. Also, Windows Media Centre does play and record TV, with normal sound. One USB device is shown as not starting, but I think it's the volume control for the speakers and it has always worked even when shown thus.

The MOBO is an AsusTek M2N68-VM, and Device Manager also shows under Sound, video and game controllers a TV card (USB), High Def Audio Device (Windows basic?), Nvidia HDMI Audio Device, and VIA High Def Audio, which I think is the one that matters.

Can anyone help me before I throw the SSD away and re-install everything as it was before!

Answer:Speakers and WMC work, but can't play any other sound files

Hello and welcome excessive now do the speakers work on another machine or sound device?

Are they connected by USB or the jack I can't quite make out how from your description and also the Creative speakers did they come with any form of software if so what is the model number of them.

Now I am assuming you have updated the driver for audio but from what source - I am not a fan of the Windows feature and always use the board or the actual manufactures site for drivers such as that.
The one you want is this one for that update http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M2N68VM/HelpDesk_Download/

I am not sure of what the NVidia Sound Device you mention is though? as I can find no mention of it on the Asus site.

I think you should also look at what version of the BIOS you have installed too and I am assuming you know the risks of updating the BIOS so be careful.

Answer:Satellite L300 does not play sound through my speakers

Hi

Sounds like speaker issue.
What notebook do you have exactly?
Did you try to reinstall the sound driver?

Do you have an Realtek HD audio Manager in the control panel?
If yes, check the advanced options in the right upper corner.

sorry im posting the same subject again because i accidentally ticked it as resolved but it isnt(oops).the problem is that i have somehow deleted or uninstalled my pc speakers.there is no icon for them anymore ,and i also might have installed windows three times over each other? i dont know much about computers so i would be very grateful if anyone could help me sort this thing out?sorry im just a poor confused woman on the edge!

Answer:speakers work but wont play music on pc

Did you figure what sound card you have from everest? I just read through your previous thread. What makes you think you installed windows three times over? and my next question what version of windows are you using?I think you just need to install the sound drivers again.

I was having some issues with my harddrive having a memory leak and it was running out of space. I tried to install a Nvidia driver and everything got screwed up on my computer. I use a sli system with two video cards. I didn't realize at first it was my harddrive, so I switched the cards ports and later managed to get the video driver to install correctly after clearing space on my harddrive. My physical speakers have not worked since.

I can get audio to play perfectly now from my headphones, but my speakers will not play sound no matter how hard I try. I've tried making sure they're enabled, I've tried re-installing the audio driver multiple times. I've tried everything I can think of with my sound settings and I can't figure out what's going on. My physical speakers are a surround sound system. I have 3 ports (black, orange, green used right now) that my speakers use. The computer detects that these are hooked up in the realtek control panel (ports are highlighted while the rest are transparent).

In order to rule out an actual issue with the speakers, I tapped the tips of the plugins for the speakers and it reacted to tapping with sounds from the speakers.

I've cloned the harddrive to a new fixed one with a higher memory capacity since this problem started. I did a test for corruption with command "sfc /scannow" in run and found nothing. The new harddrive hasn't fixed the problem.

Any ideas?

Answer:Sound will play from headphones but not speakers. (Desktop)

Check the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel. Your "Speakers" (the RealTek) should be set as the Default Audio Playback device. If not, you will not get any speaker sound.

As you installed NVIDIA and whatever with the video, the HDMI may have been set as the default playback device, and in this case the headphones would work but not the speakers.

My Logitech Z333 speakers worked fine in my previous laptop, but ever since I got this new Y50 laptop last week, it has suddently stopped working. I plugged in my speakers into the 3.5mm jack, and the only sound to come out of them were buzzing sounds. This is weird because when I plugged my speakers into my phone, the sound played through the speakers fine, and when I plugged my earphones into my laptop, the sound came through them fine, but now when I plug in the speakers into my laptop, no sound comes through. Is there something I have to download? Like a software update, or a driver? I have checked the Device Manager, and everything is up to date. How do I fix this? Thanks Mod's Edit: System model added to Subject line to improve visibility / clarity

From what i see many other people are having the same or similar issues to me.

I am running windows vista home premium and have a sigmatel soudncard (running sigmatel high defination audio codec)

When i first got my computer i wondered how i could make my guitar (via line in) play through my speakers. I did a bit of googling and hey presto i found that i had to add 'EnableInputMonitor' into my registry and unmute it in the sound settings. This work right away and all was good and finee UNTIL... recently.

All of a sudden it stopped working, i thin k perhaps it might have been due to updating my audio driver. I've tried uninstalling my audio driver, reinstalling it, reinstalling older audio drivers, re-adding the 'enableinputmonitor' string to the registry. I even tried using programs such as audicity, (which kind of worked- the sound came through the speakers but there was an agonising amount of latency).

Please do not tell me to check slider levels or to check i have unmuted everything...i have checked and they are DEFINATELY all unmuted and cranked up to their highest.

I would realllly appreciate some suggestions on how to get this working so i can once again play my guitar (in real time with no latancy) through my speakers. Thanks X

had a bad virus attack that took out windows defender and avira antivirus. i'm now using ad aware and windows firewall. if i even attempt to open windows defender or run avira i get the blue screen of death (vista 32 bit style). i can't run windows restore as it tells me there is a disk error and i've ran ckdsk /f and /r and no fix.
i'm confident that i will eventually get all the bugs worked out. the virus was 'malware defender'. i was able to remove it but as i said above, there's lots of fixing to do.
the one thing i'm stumped on is that now when i have my speakers on i'm getting bits and pieces of ads. like part of the ad for musinex and a few others. it seems to be random, there is nothing else running, it just plays out of the blue. anyone? help?

Answer:My Computer will randomly play ads through my speakers for no reason at all.

You are more than likely infected. problems running, updating AV programs is one sign of this. it will also stop you from most attempts to remove it or stop the problems it causes.
Go to malware removal forum and read the instructions.
good luck

Hi,

OK so I'm new to vista and I got an odd problem.

In vista when I go to the audio config I can see the 4 speakers I have attached and when I test them they all make sounds.
The 4 speakers are the 2 on the monitor and 2 side speakers.

So when I go to play music I only get audio from the 2 speakers on the monitor .. back to test and all 4 work .. what?

I have them in the exact same jacks as I use for XP (dual boot) and on that OS they work fine.

Unfortunetly there is no realtek icon in Vista like there is in XP in the (don't know the proper name here) as I call it the clock bar, so the realtek sound manger won't pop up just the vista manager from the control panel/ sounds/ configure.

Thanks guys.

Answer:Solved: speakers in vista won't play music will in XP

Got it.

the mic is not a usb or pc mic, it is a recording vox mic if that makes any difference

I have had my A100-306 for 2 weeks, and my built-in speakers do not play some sounds. This problem has only arisen over the last few days. When I go through the control panel to speaker settings it says there is no speakers.

Can any one advise me as to what to do to fix this problem?

Answer:Equium A100-306: built-in speakers do not play some sounds

Very strange?
I think you should check several possibilities:

- connect the headphones and check if you can hear the sound through the headphones.

- Please check the device manger. Do you see any yellow exclamation marks???
Try to remove the sound card and remove the sound driver.
After new reboot try to reinstall the sound driver again.

- On the notebook the Realtek HD sound effect manager should be installed.
Please check there the settings.

I'm writing this post because this was asked so many times over, but nobody seems to have come up with a good answer. People suggested some trials of paid programs, but that's not really an everyman solution. I don't know on how many machines my workaround will work, depends on the audio chip.

I'm going to tell you how to do this in foobar2000. My system is Win7.

0) I think that this will work only if you see something like this in your Playback devices (right-click windows audio icon & select from menu to launch it):

So if the headphone output is not "Ready" when nothing is plugged into it, you will maybe be able to use the HDMI output if you feel adventurous, or for that matter any output that you have. You possibly have no idea why I'm talking about that, but this will be clear after reading through the rest of my little manual.

-------------------

1) download & install foobar2000 here: http://www.foobar2000.org/download
play around with it of you don't know the player.

2) download & install the latest ASIO4ALL here: http://www.asio4all.com/
leave all install options default.

3) download ASIO support for foobar2000: http://www.foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_out_asio
double-click it, fb2k will install it automatically.

4) go to foobar2000 file->preferences->output->asio. Check if asio4all is visible at the top list. You can use the x64 driver (requires foobar2000 restart)

Answer:Make your laptop internal & external speakers play together

Props to OP - I've found a somewhat related hassle-free solution for desktops with Realtek Audio.

In the settings, you can 'disable front jack detection'. Therefore, speakers connected to the rear panel won't stop when you plug something else in the front.
