USB sound bar and internal laptop speakers at the same time

Question: USB sound bar and internal laptop speakers at the same time

I have an Insignia NS-NBBAR USB sound bar and the internal speakers of my Lenovo V570. I am trying to use both sets of speakers at the same time. Is there any way to accomplish this?

Preferred Solution: USB sound bar and internal laptop speakers at the same time

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: USB sound bar and internal laptop speakers at the same time

You can only have one default audio playback device, such as your "Speakers" (the PC's sound card and speakers) or some other device such as the USB soundbar, if it sets itself as the default audio playback device.

every thing is on max not shure why it works only sometime head phones work all the time but speakers come and go sometime when i bang the back the volume comes for a second and diissapears i need help

fully updated driver

Answer:Help please my Dell laptop(internal speakers) dont work all the time only sometimes

The jack where you plug in your headphones probably turns the speakers
off when the headphones are plugged in.
Over time, this causes wear to the jack and it does not make contact
properly,so the audio is not being passed to th speakers.
You can have the jack replaced(expensive?), or use a set of USB powered
external speakers.
BTW,not a good idea to bang on a laptop.

I just reloaded a laptop with XP SP2. After reload, my laptop internal and external speakers don't produce any sound. I loaded the driver from the laptop manufacturers website. And everything appears to be set correctly and working from a systems view. However - no sound from PC on boot, application, or cd or dvd play.

In Control Panel/Sound and Audio
Hardware tab - Windows says the hardware is working OK
Volume tab - All mute buttons are off/unchecked. Volume is high on all componets - PC Speaker etc.

I've also removed the driver and reloaded it. still nothing.

Is there anything else I should try? I doubt it is the motherboard.....

Answer:No sound from internal or external speakers after XP reload on laptop

It may not be the correct driver. There are some cases that the OS wopuld not report any abnormalities but the driver may not be the exact driver you need. Identify the sound device you need ( you can use unknown device identifier for that ) and download the apropriate driver.

Also check the microphone socket incase something got stuck in there.

I've got no sound through my internal laptop speakers what so ever but
when I plug in headphones or my surround system, there is sound.
There also is a red light burning in the audio input where my headphone goes in.
I think my laptop thinks the headphones are still plugged in?

Anyone any idea how I can fix this?

Ive had my HP folio 13 Ultra book for a while now. I'm running on Windows 7 Home premium (64)
But a few days ago I found out the sund was not working. And for some reason the sound is working perfectly on my beats headphones
I have 2 Sound devices: IDT High Def CODEC (speakers and Headphones) and Communications headphones (IDT high def CODEC)
For Example: When you press the sound icon and you test the sound the green sound bar comes up but nothing comes out of the speakers.
Ive done the following: Trouble shooted, it found nothing , the sound is defiately on and ive tried updating the drive but its the latest. I really do not know why it is playing up.
Alright whats weird is it says it is working properly in the advanced settings?????!!!
Also when i play a song on itunes the green bar will go up and down like usual but the sound does not come out of the damn speakers. To make it more weird when I enable the Communications headphones and test them the sound comes out of the speakers and cuts out (since it is a test).i've phoned a friend of mine and he said that maybe the sound is stuck or locked on the headphones. He also thought that maybe the computer is computer is mixed up or confused with which audio device is what.

Hi I bought a E470 Thinkpad with windows 10 ~2 months ago. The computer has been sitting idle for the last month (in sleep mode) and when I started it today I have an issue where the internal speakers wont output any sound. However connecting headphones or other external devices lets me outout audio (through said device). I've looked through various topics online (non-lenoveo related). The most common issues people have are the following:-Speakers are disabled / not selected as default device  *Pretty confedent this isn't my problem as everythin seems fine in the audio properties/settings-The driver is broken and needs reinstallation / replacement  *I have reinstalled the driver "Conexant Smartaudio HD", same problem after restart  *I have replaced the driver with the "High Definition Audio Device", same problem after restart-There's a sensor in the mini-jack socket whats faulty leading the computer to believe headphones are connected  *I don't know the correct way to go about diagnosing this, but several users on another forum fixed the issue (on different computers) by "poking around" with a toothpick in the audio jack.  Other observations / useful info:The computer does not appear to "know" that there is an issue with the audio. The internal speakers are not disabled, in able to adjust the volume bar. When I connect an external speaker / headphones a dialog box appears where I can chose between Headphones, Headset and Speaker. For th... Read more

This is related information... I have a T500 (20823HU), with Conexant 20561 SmartAudio HD, driver  Outputting audio to the internal speakers and external jack simultaneously is called MultiStream Mode on the conexant smartaudio HD. 10:41 AM - last edited on 08-09-2009 10:27 AM  swg101 (All), As you had earlier indicated you were running Vista Ult 32, your Win 7 post above suggests that Conexant's CX20561 does in fact support the Audio Director functions of SmartAudio II under Vista and that it had worked properly for you.  Do Audio Director services actually appear and operate in Vista 32?  From Conexant's SmartAudio II Help file: Classic mode emulates the behavior of Microsoft Windows XP, where sound is heard either on the speakers or on the headphones, but not both at the same time. To select Classic mode, click on the corresponding icon. In Multi-Stream mode, different sounds can be played on speakers and headphones simultaneously. To select Multi-Stream mode, click on the corresponding icon. If so, folks should know that Conexant's driver package does not install these features in Win XP. The Audio Director icon is not presented by the SmartAudio II control center in these systems; only the Volume Mixer, Voice Effects and SmartEQ / 3D Settings are available. Have not explor... I recently got a new HP zBook 15 with the slim docking station and am experiencing an issue related to the speaker output. If I plug my external powered Bose speakers into the line out of the docking station I get sound out of both the external Bose speakers and the internal laptop speakers at the same time. In addition the sound from the Bose speakers sounds horrible...tinny and completely lacking any bass. If I plug the Bose speakers into the headphone jack on the side of the laptop (not the docking station) then I get great sound and ONLY the Bose speakers produce sound (which is what I want). Is there a fix to get only the external speakers to play when plugged into the docking station audio out? I've uninstalled and re-installed the Conexent ISST Audio drivers change. I've tried messing with the B&O Sound Control panel, but it doesn't have any configuration for the audio ports. I've messed around in the Windows Playback devices control panel, but can't seem to find a way to shut off the internal laptop speakers. FYI, this is a fresh install of Windows 10 Pro. All Mircosoft updates installed. All HP updates installed via the HP Support Assistant. Latest laptop BIOS installed. Help! The sound output sounds HORRIBLE through the docking station. There must be a fix.

Hi, I am currently looking for a way to make my built in laptop speakers and my external speakers play at the same time.

Like most laptops if there is something plugged into the line out jack the internal speakers are disabled and the external speakers take priority.

Is there a program that could accomplish this or is what I'm asking terribly difficult to accomplish?

Something that may be significant is that my integrated audio chip set is not manufactured by Realtek (nor is any other part of my computer).

Answer:Enable Internal and External speakers at the Same Time

You could try something like Virtual Audio Cable. Theres a trial version available.

I'll try to explain this as best as I can. I have a Compaq 8510w Workstation Laptop, and I am trying to get the internal Laptop speakers and some external speakers to work and both make sound at the same time. I have a secondary monitor that has speakers, and it's speakers connect through the headphone jack. So I would like to use the secondary monitor's external speakers, but I would also like the internal speakers in the laptop to work as well, to kinda make some version of surround sound, and just to generally boost the volume of my system. Is there a hardware or software change that I can make to make this work? I have a microphone and headphone jack in the front of the laptop, and in the back I have a green and blue jack. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if you need more information I"d be more than happy to help in any way, thank you,

Answer:Would like for BOTH Headphones and Internal Speakers to work at same time

Is there a way to tell if this is the cause of the problem? I messed around with all of my audio options, tried upgrading the driver, I've hooked the external speakers into every port available, and i reinstalled the monitor software thinking that maybe they had an application for it. I don't know what else my options are, but I find it weird that there isn't some kind of work around or registry change that can be made. Thank you once again for any help,

I installed a internal sound card months ago when my original ports on my PC stopped working. Just recently sound started coming from my monitors built in speakers and not my sound card.

What is going on it has to be something simple I am looking over.

Did it just stop working? did it work before?
if so you could always roll back driver if a new one was installed and check your windows update if you have it turned on automaticly then it may have downloaded a bad up date lol you never know
if these answers never helped the only thing i would say to do is check your sound card and see if it is working properly even though the headphones work it still may be a problem

Hello,  We just purchased ( 7 days back) a Thinkpad E420series laptop. This came without the OS pre-installed. So I installed the OS( Windows 7 ultimate) and then through the Lenovo software updater , installed all the drivers.  Now, the problem we are facing is - this machine refuses to play any sound through the internal speakers. I hear no beeps too when the laptop starts.  However, if I plug in the headphones, I hear the sound only via the headphones. The system recognises when the headphones are plugged and unplugged.  The drivers installed are the Conexant 20672 Smart Audio HD drivers version  The only surprising part is that if I play any music the volume control in the tray when expanded to move the slider shows the green bar moving up and down as it would normally do when the sound is being played - only , here there is no sound.   Kindly assist me in resolving this.

Hello there from the Midwest! So I recently had a virus which took out one of the drivers on my computer, thus not allowing me to Start Windows Normally, in Safe Mode with Networking or anything other option. So, I upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate. Now, everything is running smooth, except I have not sound coming from my internal speakers. I tried going here, Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Devices and Printers , to which I saw that my HP Compaq DC 7800 needs troubleshooting. I right click to do troubleshooting and it finds that I need PCI Simple Communications Controller as well as the PCI Serial Port. I tried to install the fixes and that was no luck! Now my question is... What in heavens do I do? I really miss listening to my music every morning.

It looks like the first two upgrades for Win7 are BIOS and Chipset drivers and that sounds to me like a good place to start as both of these will help Windows 7 correctly identify the hardware on your computer.

I would first install the chipset drivers which are basically inf files that correctly describe the hardware configuration. A BIOS upgrade is a little more tricky if you've never done one before, I would visit the Hardware & Devices sction of this forum and post a question (re: BIOS Upgrade) there.

Don't know if there's an easy fix as it looks like a couple of things need to be updated first.
Go for the chipset drivers and see if Win 7 recognizes your hardware.

Also, one other question... did you install Windows 7 over the top of your previous operating system or did you wipe (format) the drive and do a fresh install.

The first two

Okay this problem is driving me slightly insane...
I actually called in a dell engineer to help fix it but he completely failed. (as expected).

Okay so the problem is:
My speakers are absolutely fully functioning, they work perfectly when a test is run on start up. I.E. they output beeping sounds.

However when the operating system loads up, there is no sound. If I use headphones it works fine, but the speakers don't output any sound on their own.

So the tech guy changed the internal speakers- still the same problem-and then checked out/updated the drivers which left us with STILL the same problem...tried it in safe mode-still the same problem.

Is there any kind of *easy* solution to this that we're missing?

I'm still waiting for a response from Dell, but don't expect anything really.

Any help would be appreciated!

The soundcard on my toshiba p-50 satellite stopped working, therefore i can't use my internal speakers or audio jack. I purchased a usb audio jack so i could use my headphones but i'm still unable to use my internal speakers. I was thinking maybe an external sound card could do the trick, I'm not sure. Any suggestion on how I could use my internal speakers without having to go through the trouble of replacing the broken soundcard?

Answer:How to use internal speakers with a external sound

I can't think of any way of connecting internal speakers to an external soundcard as far as I'm aware they're hard wired to the internal soundcard and if that's gone they're not getting any signal and without popping the case and rewiring them that's how they'll stay. If anybody knows otherwise please say.
I'd be tempted to try a cheap compact Bluetooth speaker or combine the USB audio jack with some clip on speakers.

CTO HP Pavilion dv8000 (with Media Center) XP
For some time, I've had sound from headphone jack but not from internal speakers, though when I take out the headphones, for half a second, the music continues through the speaker. HP help told me to reinstall the operating system (XP) which I was not willing to do, as I wasn't sure they knew what they were talking about (again--I've had ill experience here). So when I saw some issues here that sounded similar to mine (turn off digital output--SPDIF), I contacted them again. They determined (likely from some far away place--the grammar and spelling weren't very good, though they were very polite) that it is a hardware issue. I am loathe to send this thing away into the black hole of HP repair. The posts I read here usually had to do with VISTA, but I have XP and couldn't figure out how to do the same thing in XP (SPDIF). Any help would be great. Without some software fix, I'm liable to limp along using headphones and external speaker systems.

Hi, I have a problem where the internal speakers on my T61 don't produce any sound.  If I plug in headphones I get fine sound, it's just the speakers that don't work.  I've checked all the volume control settings to ensure that nothing is muted.  I've also downloaded and burned the PC Doctor bootable CD image for the T61.  Running the speakers test from inside PC Doctor doesn't produce sound at any frequency. Also, if I am listening to my headphones, the computer *does* produce a beep on shutdown, but the same beep does not occur on the internal speakers if my headphones are unplugged. Any ideas for further troubleshooting?  If I have to replace my speakers, is that something I can do myself?  Where can I order them and how much will it cost?

Greetings! The headphone jack on my Sony Vaio notebook has a "loose contact" and it is no longer possible to listen with headphones. So I bought a USB sound card and plugged it in. That works fine when you are listening through the headphones but the card seems to hijack the whole sound system. It installs itself as THE sound card and the original card is disabled. If I boot up the machine with the USB card it automatically installs itself (logical enough). If I then want to just briefly listen to a file without searching for my headphones it is not possible. The internal speakers are not running through the USB sound card. If I go into the Control Center and change the sound card under "Audio" I can then listen through the internal speakers. But this is a real pain. I tried using Device Manager and the Audio in Control Center to see if I could re-route the internal speakers through the USB card but I couldn't even locate them let alone re-route them. If anyone out there knows how to do this I would appreciate the tip. Maybe it's just not possible. One or the other.I was also wondering if I would have the same problem if I bought a PCMCIA Sound Card? Thanks, Dave

Hi,I  bought an IDEAPAD Z510 on July 19th 2014. I have the same problem. No sound from internal speakers - only from headphones . This has happened after disconnecting headphones. I read a forum post which suggested that the problem could be due to malfunction of the internal mechanism of the headphone socket . The internal mechanism of socket often does not come back to original position after the headphone is removed to restore speaker function. I suspect that is the problem. Request Lenovo to help rectify this manufacturing fault.

Answer:No sound from internal speakers - only from headphones

It could be the problem which you mentioned in your post. However, have you checked what is the default playback device selected in your Sound control? To do this, 1) Right click on the volume icon in the Taskbar on the bottom right side of the screen.2) Click on Playback devices.3) Make sure when the headphones are unplugged, the internal speakers are selected as the default device. Have you connected to laptop to an external display?Any other modifications, if you have done?

Answer:No sound from internal speakers y580

hi superemcg,
Welcome to Lenovo Community!
If your computer plays sound using a headphone jack the it means that your computer is not on mute or in a wrong setting.
After you re-installed the right drivers
Realtek Audio Driver Windows 80pau05w8.exe116MB
Realtek Audio Driver Windows 70pau08ww.exe83.3MB
and played an audio and it played on your headphone jack and not on internal speakers Its a Hardware Problem.
You can check the sound properties with out a headphone in and see if the Internal speakers are being used
and it is not disabled
Spoiler (Highlight to read)
and the Indicator on the right hand is showing sound level moving when playing an Audio.
You can also Try doing this.
Remove the battery and then disconnect the AC adapter if connected.- Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds then release it.
- Reinsert the battery and then reconnect the AC adapter.
- Turn on the computer.
If it is still the same then I would confirm this to be a Hardware Problem.
You will need to send the unit in for service. Support phone list here.
Hope this helps,

Hi, erceve
If you go to the Control Panel and open up Device Manager, you should see something called Sound, video and game controllers. Open this up and right-click on the device that controls your speakers (likely Realtek) and select Properties. What is the driver version and status as listed in this Window?
Thanks in advance,

Answer:No sound from internal speakers - only from headphones

Hi, welcome to the forum!
There are a number of reasons for this problem. Have you installed the correct sound driver for your operating system? If you go to control panel -> sound do you see a green checkmark next to an icon of speakers?
In any case please provide some more info, like the machine type of your T400, the operating system you are using, when and how this problem started happening. Help us help you!

My HP Pavilion 23 All in One has the internal speakers and lately its been making loud buzzing sounds - sporaticaly.  Whether is a video, music anything it kind of pauses and makes a loud buzz.  I just purchased seperate speakers to use hoping that would fix it but it still does it.  The internal speakers are RealTech Hi Definition.  I've tried all differnt options and nothing helps.

My laptop is 2.5 years old. 6 months ago the speakers started dying on me, crackling etc, couldn't get much volume out of them and now have died completely. There is no sound at all. I suspect it is a hardware problem. Computer shops seem to want to charge me a lot of money just to open up the machine and even then suggest they might not be able to do anything.

Has anyone had a similar problem with their laptop in this regard. Of course my laptop is now out of guarantee. Surely speakers should last longer than this? I am desperate for my sound back but don't know the best route to go down and least expensive to try and fix it.
I would be grateful for any advice and help.

Thank you.

Answer:Internal speakers - No sound on Equium A110-252

I didn?t have such issue with any of my 3 laptops.
It would be very interesting to know if you can hear something using the headphones.

Check this!
If the audio signal is available using the headphones then this issue is definitely related to the speakers and seems that both speakers should be replaced.
For me it looks like a bad luck because it?s really very uncommon that the speakers would die? but nothing is impossible as you know?

So in my eyes the speakers should be replaced and I think the ASP in your country should be contacted to arrange a replacement.

Good luck

Just rec'd new K450e and there is absolutely no sound from on board speakers.  When plugging in headphone jack, I have great sound on my headphones.  Had already reinstalled drivers etc with no change.  Have plugged and unplugged headphones to see if curcuit can be made with on board speakers, but with no luck....still silence.  Pretty frustrated.   Wonder if there are any other tests that can be run with this desktop system.  Any help is appreciated.

Answer:Brand new K450e out of the box with no sound from Internal speakers

Hi Kubotaboyz,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
The Lenovo K450e does not come with an internal speakers.
All Lenovo Tower PC does not have an internal Speaker and you must connect one either through the back Audio port or at the front on some units.
You can check this K4 Model series Maintenance Manual to verify that the unit does not include speakers internally.
Hope this helps

When I pause playback of an .mp3, there's permanent white noise coming from the internal speakers. Stopping the playback stops the white noise after approximately 4 seconds. I never had this issue with any laptop / soundcard. Can this be fixed? I have the latest BIOS and drivers installed. Headphones are fine (no white noise). Maybe the inbuilt L440 soundcard has a problem. I had to return my first L440 because there was a loud plop when starting playback and the left speaker was way quieter than the right one. In the German part of this forum people are reporting problems realted to the internal speaker (cracking sound, white noise).

Hey, I'm sorry for my bad English.

I've just restored my Satellite A300D-14D to it's factory defaults. So all drivers and software are like I've bought the notebook. The sound worked well but after I restarted the notebook 2 or 3 times because of the Windows Vista Updates, the sound just disappeared. The internal speakers are harman/kardon speakers.

If i plug in my headphones everything works well, but I want listen to music through the internal speakers. So I unplug my headphones but theres no sound coming through the notebook speakers, I can't hear anything.

I've tried the latest sound drivers form the toshiba support homepage for the A300D-14D, without a succsess.

Need help pls!

Answer:Satellite A300D-14D - No sound on internal speakers

Hi Schurik,

Have you checked the Windows sound settings? Usually in sound driver you can change between audio output on internal speakres and external speakers (headphones).
Check this!!!

What service pack for Vista is installed? Is newest SP2 installed?

One or the other.

If I bought a PCMCIA Soundblaster card would I have the same problem?

A couple of days ago I pulled a jack plug from the head phone input and I believe it broke the mechanism that detects whether a jack plug is inserted. The result is that I can't get sound from the laptop speakers when there is no jack plug in the head phone input. The sound works perfectly fine though headphones, drivers have been updated, and the problem also occurs when I run a fresh install of Ubuntu, so I think it's safe to say that it's not a software issue, but a hardware issue. However, a different hardware issue than the broken jack detection mechanism is also a probable cause.  Lenovo suggests to fix hardware issues like this through inspecting the hardware or sending it out f.... However, I don't feel like hardware editing (yet) nor sending my laptop away for weeks for repair. Given that it is indeed the broken jack plug detection mechanism, I was hoping to find a solution through some adjustments in software. For instance, this problem can be fixed for RealTek sound cards by going into the registry (at least for Windows 7) and set the registry value ForceDetectionJD to 00. This registry value can be found at: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ControlClass\{4D36E96C-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0001\SettingsHowever, Lenovo comes with Conexant audio hardware that doesn't have such registry key. This topic seems to show a way for non-RealTek sound cards, but unfortunately this didn't work for me either. Perhaps there is a Conexan... Read more

Some months ago the internal speakers went silent. The laptop had been in hibernation. The speakers gager at bottom of page still goes up and down just no sound. The sound is ok when I plug in external speakers.
The sound came back a numbe of times when I was in gaming.gambling sites. However, once I restart the laptop it's back to no sound. I did the usaul checks on windows 7 sites and it tells me everthing is working fine/uptodate. I installed the suggested realtrek driver from toshiba web site but to no avail.
This seems to be a common problem with Tosbiba laptops looking at the various help sites.

Any suggestions please..

Answer:Satellite L350 - No Sound on Internal Speakers

To be honest I don?t understand why do you think that exact this issue should be ?common issue? on Toshiba laptops.

Your old L350 was delivered with Vista and it would be interesting to know if the same happen with original Toshiba recovery image (Vista).
On this virtual way it is not easy to say what the problem can be and all you can do at first is to check all sound settings.

If I understand you right the sound come back from time to time (gaming.gambling sites). Can you confirm this?

My laptop's internal speakers recently went straight from normal to no sound whatever (from any source), while the volume level still fluctuates as expected in the System Tray Volume Mixer. External speakers work fine. Is this a simple case of the internal ones giving up the ghost? (The laptop is 6 years old).

Dell Inspiron 3542
Windows 10 Home 64bit (1703)
I was watching (and hearing), videos with the laptop at rest on top of my desk and suddenly sound went mute. I check all the typical culprits (Volume Mixer, Playback Devices, Dell Audio Sound Manager, downloaded and reinstalled latest driver, etc), but no sound. Sound does work with headphones and when I insert them the system automatically detects them and adjust volume. When I remove them the system quickly sense that and adjust the volume. So I came here and read Jimco's FAQ. Followed all the recommendations and ran the pre-boot assessment test. Sadly I can not hear the 8 tones. So now, what are my options to fix the problem?

I'm using Windows 7 SP-1.  After my system plays audio for a while, distortion sets in.  The only way I've found to get rid of it (maybe for a day or so) is to reboot.  Driver is up-to-date.  I need someone to point me in the right direction.  Dell has been no help to date.  I think it's software related (or the driver is faulty).  Just my opinion.  Please help!!!!!!!!!!

Answer:M 6800: Distortion in the sound -- internal speakers

Am I correct in understanding that the problem won’t return after a day or so? If rebooting the computer corrects the problem then you are probably correct that this is just software. Just to be sure you may want to completely uninstall the audio driver and reinstall from scratch to make sure that there is no corruption there.
The next time you notice the problem bring up task manager and see what applications and services that you have running. End task any unneeded programs and see if that helps. While in the task manager, click on the performance tab and check to see if all the system resources are being spent. Click the resource monitor button on the bottom and look at what applications are using the most resources.. it may give a clue as to what software is causing the problem.
If restarting the system corrects the problem every time this really doesn't sound like anything is defective with the hardware of the system, hopefully you will be able to find the culprit. Please let me know what you find out.

I hope someone here can solve this problem because I'm at my wits end.

I installed a Microsoft headset called "LifeChat LX-3000" with a built in microphone. I only want to use it to make online videos for my business. Everything worked fine until I unplugged the headset. I can't get any sound at all from my computer. The internal speakers and external speakers give me no sound. The only way I can hear anything is by wearing the headset. I finally gave up and uninstalled the headset, but I still can't get any sound.

Any suggestions?? Why in the world can't I get my sound back??

Answer:[SOLVED] No Sound Through Internal or External Speakers

First, I am assuming that you still have your speakers hooked up the female mini pin that is green.

Second, go to
Start > Control Panel > Sound and Audio Device properties

3. Click on audio tab. Default device listed should be your onboard audio or sound card. If is not selected, select it and hit apply. If nothing is in the selection box, you may have to reinstall or re-enable your audio device.

4. Click on volume tab. Make sure mute is not selected.

I've just received my Laptop back from repair and all seems to be well, I had my screen panel replaced, gpu replaced(from 570m to 670m), new hard drive and CPU fan. However the problem I seem to be having is that internal speakers are completely not working.

I can see that bolume bar in for my internal speakers is actually changing but there is no sound. My system is not muted (unless there's some secret button I'm missing out on) No matter what i try it seems that sound will not work through my internal speakers, I've plugged in my Razer headset(Kraken) that works with my other computer but is not even detected when plugged in the Audio jacks of my laptop(Doesnt even pick up the microphone) and this did work before I sent it out for repair. Sound only works through HDMI output into a TV/Monitor.

Now I'm not sure if this some software configuration that I have to do or something physical with the hardware but I would prefer to not have to send it back as it would take a month to get back to me and also the repair company states that if the problem is due to software then they will charge.

I assume it's a conflict that Realtek HD audio manager is having or something but none of my devices show up on the RealtekHD Audio Manager nor do I get a pop up when a device is detected(which is what normally would of happened)

Hi there

I have an Acer Aspire laptop and bought a little bass speaker that will enhance what I currently have on my laptop.

Only problem however is that when plugging this speaker into the headphone jack my internal speakers don't play anymore.

How can I play through both my internal laptop speaker and through this external speaker at the same time.

Your help would be much appreciated!

Answer:Play sound through internal speakers and headphones simultaneously

For most systems dual sound is impossible. Actually I'm not sure if that is possible at all on any card at all...I've browsed around the internetz, and this is what everyone seems to say on this subject.
My advice would be if you are using your laptop for home use only, just go buy external speakers as well, as long as you have 2 sound ports. If not you can get a splitterand plug both the bass and speakers in that.
Sorry I couldn't be of much more help!

My laptop is unable to play sound through both headphones/earphones and its internal speakers.  I downloaded and installed the Realtek High Definition Audio Driver from the following site: .  As a result, the Device Manager shows that the HD Audio Device is working properly.  Also, there is a green check mark over the internal speakers icon and headphones icon (when I plug the headphones into the jack), which was not present before I installed the Realtek Driver.  However, there is still an "X" over the audio icon in the taskbar.  When I click on the audio icon, the following window appears, stating that the audio device is disabled.  I have went through various forums and solutions, but none have been helpful so far.  Thank you so much for your time and help for this issue!

Answer:ThinkPad T430s No Sound Through Headphones or Internal Speakers

You have an unknown device there.  Investigate that.  It might be the audio that Windows shows is currently disabled.  Also, if it worked before, restore the PC to a point prior to the driver install--I'm assuming that this was a recent event, downloading the Realtek driver.  You could also try "Roll Back" for the driver, if it's not greyed out.  Or you could uninstall the audio device and let Windows find it again and install a driver from its cache.  But my money is on the unknown device.

Hi community, let me first explain how I assume the switch between headphones and speakers should work:I turn on music or anything esle and if no headphones are plugged in, every sound comes from the internal speakers. Now if I plug in headphones then the sound comes exclusively from the headphones. If I pull then out again the sound comes from the speakers and so on. In my case the situation is the following:If I have no headphones plugged in and turn on music, then I hear if via speakers. If I decide to continue listening to that music via headphones and plug them in, then the music continues to come from the speakers, but for example the notification sound from outlook comes from the headphones. This works vice versa. If I open, say youtube to watch a video, while having the headphones plugged in, I will hear the sound via them. If I now unplugg them, the speakers will stay silent. What can I do that if there are no external speakers plugged in (headphones etc.) every sound will be played by the internal speakers, if I plug in some sort of external speaker it comes from them and if I unplugg it it switches back to the internal speakers?Thank you very much for your help!Best regards

I want to just start off by saying that my current speakers work, I'm just wondering if it is at all possible to find somewhere that sells higher quality ones. For example, purchasing harmon kardon speakers that are the same size as my current speakers. I have no cracked open my laptop to see what type they are yet, because I wanted to see if anyone else has tried this.

My laptop is a Samsung X460I. Any help or input on where or who to find internal speakers from would be greatly appreciated. I watch a lot of movies on this, and the audio quality is subpar and "tinny".

Also I understand that external speakers that sort of hang off a usb are available, but I'm looking for something more permanent.

Answer:Replacing internal laptop speakers?

Hiya pal

I don't think it's worth while trying to change your internal speakers for a couple of reasons.

1. Your going to void your warranty
2. The sound isn't going to improve that much
3. You might do more damage than it's worth

Why not look at a set of bluetooth wireless speakers. Apart from connecting them to your lappy these can double up as a hands free kit for your mobile phone as they have a built in mic & you can also play music from your phone through them. Some of them like this one are rechargeable so they don't even need a permanent power cable. They are quite cheap +- ?25 for the speaker and +- ?5 for a bluetooth adapter.... just a suggestion

Ever since I got my new Dell Vostro 1510 I've noticed that the speakers are well.. lacking to say the least. They're horribly tinny and have no bass whatsoever. My old D600 speakers were much better than these ones.

Is there anyone out there that has upgraded the internal speakers in their laptop before? Do you think this would be a difficult task to accomplish?

I know there are external solutions including headphones and 2.1 systems that would be great but I need something that is just as portable as my laptop by itself with no extra peripherals.

Answer:Use internal laptop speakers and jack simultaneously

Probably not possible without actually rewiring your headphone jack, as it has a contact tab that disconnects the speakers when headphones or external speakers are plugged in, the reason being that output voltage for headphones is a fraction of that used for the internal speakers.

I have a Dell Inspiron N4110 to which I have plugged Logitech external speakers. However the Logitech speakers have a short cord with them and a family member is always tripping over the cord. This evening, when they tripped over the cord, the computer fell over off of a short stand where it sits and landed on the floor (a height of about two feet from the floor so not a major tumble). This caused the jack from the external speakers to become unplugged from the computer and when I went to plug it back into the computer (after righting it back to its stand) I saw the metal part of the jack that goes into the computer was bent and looked ready to break off. Since there is no way to replace the cord to the speakers I had to just order another set of speakers from Amazon. My main problem now is that I discovered that for some reason the computer's internal speakers now do not work at all. I don't understand why. There was no problem with them whatsoever before this. I got a flashlight and checked inside the hole (headphones) where the speaker's jack plug into and there is nothing stuck in there but it does look sightly crooked now. The speakers will work if they are plugged in (despite the damaged plug/jack) but the computer' internal speakers now will play no sound whatsoever when unplugging the speakers from the headphones jack. I'm not sure why??The computer has fallen down in the past and never had any issue before. There are no other issues with it wh... Read more

Answer:problem with laptop computer's internal speakers

Hi  The problem is that the socket on the laptop is damaged and will need to be replaced. The plug on the original speakers could have been replaced as well saving replacing the speakers.Have you considered getting some Bluetooth speakers no cables .

I'm writing this post because this was asked so many times over, but nobody seems to have come up with a good answer. People suggested some trials of paid programs, but that's not really an everyman solution. I don't know on how many machines my workaround will work, depends on the audio chip.

I'm going to tell you how to do this in foobar2000. My system is Win7.

0) I think that this will work only if you see something like this in your Playback devices (right-click windows audio icon & select from menu to launch it):

So if the headphone output is not "Ready" when nothing is plugged into it, you will maybe be able to use the HDMI output if you feel adventurous, or for that matter any output that you have. You possibly have no idea why I'm talking about that, but this will be clear after reading through the rest of my little manual.

1) download & install foobar2000 here:
play around with it of you don't know the player.

2) download & install the latest ASIO4ALL here:
leave all install options default.

3) download ASIO support for foobar2000:
double-click it, fb2k will install it automatically.

4) go to foobar2000 file->preferences->output->asio. Check if asio4all is visible at the top list. You can use the x64 driver (requires foobar2000 restart)

Props to OP - I've found a somewhat related hassle-free solution for desktops with Realtek Audio.

In the settings, you can 'disable front jack detection'. Therefore, speakers connected to the rear panel won't stop when you plug something else in the front.

I was playing really bassy hardcore and it popped both speakers on all low frequencies. I've tested them and both have gone. The laptop is out of warranty but still only 2 years old. Everything else is working well. Asked at the shop I bought it from and was told it's cheaper to replace than repair, which could be the case (it's not an expensive model) or they may want the sale and commission. It crossed my mind though if I plugged in external speakers would they work and solve this problem? Buying them would be cheaper than replacing an otherwise ok laptop.

Hey everyone

Recently i had my motherboard fixed and my speaker ports are in a diff place. Vertical instead of horizontal down the bottom (no i don't know much about hardware). There are still the same three holes, pink blue and green, not sure if they were different colours don't think it matters. I've got creative inspire 5.1 5200 speakers
and only the speakers which are plugged into the top speaker port (green) work.
The subwoofer seems to work no matter which speakers are plugged in but I
can only have the back two, the front two or the centre speaker working at once.
The bottom port is used for the microphone and that works all the time, the middle port doesn't do anything really.
I've tried downloading a bunch of realtek AC97 drivers to get it to work because I used to have one which had a speaker setup tab, and i could change from microphone to surround sound from there: ac97 (ms6547)/audio4.JPG
I don't have the speaker config tab on mine anymore, but i do have HRTF demo.

Hi guys!

I've been struggling with this problem since I got my computer, a little over a year ago.

I've tried everything, but can't figure out how to get sounds from my pc speakers and HDMI at the same time. It's really annoying having to change the primary output multiple times a day (I watch a lot of movies using HDMI-cable to my tv). Might sound like a little problem to you, but I'm becoming obsessed with this

My soundcard is some kind of a Realtek HD -thingy, if that helps.

Any advice would be appreciated

Answer:Sound from HDMI and pc speakers at the same time

That is the way it works. You can only have one "default playback device" - either your Speakers (PC sound) or the HDMI.

I've seen other posts about this, but don't recall seeing any way around this.

Hi,I have a Vision laptop running Windows 7 that was recently formatted. Since then, I have been unable to play sound from all of its internal speakers at once. Also, when I connect to a bluetooth device (in this case, a Bose Soundlink Mini, which has been tested on other machines) the audio quality is very poor and crackly. When I go to the control panel to set the playback device it presents me with three different, completely identical speakers to choose from. Depending on which one I choose, I get sound from either the bottom (sub-wooferish), the top (treble-heavy), or the middle (mid-range) of the laptop. They are all just called "Enheden High Definiftion Audio" ("High Definition Audio Device"). In the device manager, there are two identical entries both called "High Definition Audio Device" (see attached screenshots). If I try to remove theese, Windows calls for a reboot and then immediately reinstalls them when it boots up. I don't know which sound card I have and the dxdiag only list the three "Enheden High Definiftion Audio" devices (see below or attached txt-file).I've searched far and wide, but I've been unable to find neither answers nor people with similar problems. I think this is a driver issue since it appeared after a format, but I'm not completely sure.Hope you guys can help!Best,Bertel DxDiag:------------------System Information------------------Time of this report: 9/13/2015, 14:11:47   ... In the Windows audio playback tab there's only "speakers" but sound is playing from both speakers and the headphones, with headphones plugged into the right jack. I checked the Realtek Control Panel and there was F**K ALL for options there (see attached). There is an Intel(R) Display Audio in Device Manager alongside Realtek High Definition Audio. So now I can't watch warm-up videos at school without blasting the sounds through my speakers as well.

I tried a System Restore to before the problem started but it didn't do anything. The problem started around the time I ran an Advanced Systemcare 8 scan, which does the following tasks:
Spyware Removal
Registry Fix
Privacy Sweep
Junk Files Clean
Internet Boost
Shortcuts Fix
Registry Defrag
System Optimization
Security Defense
Disk Scan
Vulnerability Fix (Windows Updates)
Disk Optimization
Also when I move my laptop it shuts off for some reason, so it could've interupted the scan or updates or something.
System Specs included inside attached DxDiag.

Hi Everyone,

Hopefully someone can assist with this annoying problem. My mother's computer, for some unknown reason, plays all sounds and music through the actual PC tower AND the external speakers.

We want to disable the sound coming from the PC, as when she has music on or is playing World of Warcraft etc, its really annoying to hear the tinny sounds through the PC tower. We just want to hear it through the external speakers.

She's running a HP Compaq dc5700 PC with Windows XP. The default sound is via RealTek HD Audio.

It hasn't always done this - its a recent issue.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks guys!

I have a rather cheap and poor quality Trust 5.1 surround system and a rather awesome View Quest SonicDock.

While my current, best, computer was away being repaired, I wired up all the speakers in a rather complicated manner which enabled me to have c/sub, the two front side speakers, and the SonicDock output simultaneously, at maximum volume. However, the read side speakers never worked with that cabling and I thought they had both died until I got this computer back and connected the surround properly.

Why do I want the audio to output through two sets of speakers at the same time? The subwoofer from the surround set is awful. The SonicDock produces some literally desk-shaking bass.

So, the computer has the following audio ports:
in (blue), out (green), mic (pink), c/sub (orange), rear (black), side (grey)
(front panel)
mic (pink), headphones (green)
Basically, I don't WANT surround. My room isn't big enough and the speakers can't be strategically positioned, I just want the maximum sound output. I.e. I don't want WMP to just be sending audio to the front speakers, I want sound to come out of all the speakers, even if it's just stereo sound but through all 6/7 speakers.
I've fiddled with all the Realtek HD Audio manager settings and can't get it to work how I want it to. When I tried stacking earphone splitters and connecting the four speaker cables into that stack and plugged into the rear green out port, it didn't work as intended.

I think what I'd like to do... Read more

Answer:I'd like to have sound output through 2 sets of speakers at same time

First off, I use a Trust 5.1 surround system and I bought it knowing that I was getting what I paid for :I

But on to your problem, with Realtek it is easily possible to output to two sets of speakers at once (as long as your dock has a single 3.5mm for input).
Unfortunately I don't have Realtek anymore since I bought my X-Fi so I'm going purely from memory here. In the Realtek control panel (accessible through Windows control panel), there is the ability to toggle front panel audio concurrently with your normal, rear port audio. Luckily Google has a far better memory than I.

by clicking "Device advanced settings" in the Realtek HD Audio Manager and then clicking "Make front and rear output devices playback two different audio streams simultaneously"

I have a HP Pavilion g6, Win10. Today the sound on my laptop started playing from the speakers and headphones at the same time. A quick google tells me this is a known and stubborn problem for some HP users. None of the advice worked for me so I tried the option of unisntalling and reinstalling the sound drivers. Looking at the 'Sound' tab of the cotrol panel in Playback there was a device, IDT High Definition Audio, which said it wasn't working. Looking at the control panel I had two options for which sound driver to uninstall- AMD HD Audio Device, or IDT High Definition Audio. Given the fact that IDT Audtio was apprently not working, I chose to unisntall that one. I unchecked the box saying to remove all drivers.  Apparently this was the wrong thing to do, but the instructions made no mention of this. I then searched for and downloaded the IDT High Def Audio driver, restarted my computer and... No sound, and no way of reinstalling the driver. In device manager if I scan for hardware changes it comes up with nothing. If I try all the options to reinstall the sound driver, and even specify the folder where I downloaded the IDT High Def driver, it tells me my sound driver is already up to date. In the Sound tab of the Control Panal, in Playback, I now only have one thing - "Digital Display Audio" - and that's with it showing disabled devices too. Help! Thanks.

Once I plug my headphones in or my hearing aids bluetooth device in, it all goes south. The internal speakers continue to work as does the bluetooth, but nothing is coming out of the headphones. Since I was once in IT, this problem is unique to the jack itself. Either the jack lifted up or was pushed back and never properly tested. The hook, I just received this computer 3 weeks ago to replace a faulty HDMI out port. I was told that there would be an open ticket so if I had any problems with this computer it would be attended to. Unfortunately, that is not the case.

Yesterday I installed a new external hard drive - following the installation - my sound no longer played through my television (video is fine, HDMI connection) and sound now comes ONLY through the laptop speakers.

The option for HDMI Audio doesn't appear in the 'sound' menus. I have 'checked' "shoe disabled" and "show disconnected" in those menus.
Basic Specs:

Windows 7/64bit

IDT High Definition Audio Codec

ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250
AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon 4250

I have tried the following fixes gleaned from other forum posts on similar forum posts:

Uninstalling and reinstalling IDT drivers - didn't work.

HP driver 'recovery manager' to install 'original' IDT audio codecs - didn't work.

Unistalled ATI Video Drivers , and reinstalled them - didn't work

System Restore to a week ago - didn't work.

I use my HD TV as my primary monitor for gaming, so having sound through laptop speakers and not TV is quite annoying.

Perhaps my only solution is another sound card?

Answer:no sound through tv via hdmi, sound plays through laptop speakers (idt

So you're trying to get audio to play on your TV from your laptop? Since you said the video is fine it's obviously not the video drivers. It sounds like the sound output is configured wrong. I don't think it would be labeled as HDMI. HDMI is just DVI with HD Audio. Try altering your sound settings to see what you can get.

Audio is a very difficult thing to diagnose and fix.

Is there any way to get it back to the way it was?

Answer:Laptop speakers and Headphones at same time

Go to Control Panel - Sound - and explore all possible settings ("configure" and "properties").

I think the switch is a part of the connection, and something in the headphone jack is loose or broken, but it's worth looking for a setting. I didn't find any such setting on my Vista, but I have a different sound card.

Answer:Internal speakers stay mute when external speakers disconnected

Hello. After you re-install the Realtek audio driver, run the audio test in the ePSA diagnostic. If you cannot hear tones during the test, then the speakers have failed or become disconnected. If you do hear the tones then the speakers are okay.
You can test the driver by switching it with the Windows native driver.
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked [but SEE NOTE].7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, sometimes you have to restart, sometimes not.[To get back to the Realtek driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]NOTE: if you have a 2-in-1 model and do not see a "High Definition Audio" option after step 6, then uncheck "Show compatible hardware". I have two monitors (one VGA and one HDMI ) to the CPU (new XPS 8700), but sound only comes out of the monitor speaker with the HDMI connection.  The other speaker does work and has been tested with a 3.5MM speaker cable.
The video card is NVIDA GTX 745.  In the audio set-up control panel from the NVIDIA, I disabled audio from the HDMI thinking that I could then run 3.5MM cable on a Y splitter to the audio out port and by-pass the HDMI cable.  I tried every port and either experienced no sound or sound in one or the other speaker.
I realize these speakers are not the best and I am fine with them.  I like the clean clutter desktop look.
