Can I Directly output audio from USB to 3.5mm jack?(My jack is broken)

Question: Can I Directly output audio from USB to 3.5mm jack?(My jack is broken)

Well my jack is broken since a few months so no joy for me... I hate it now when I can't listen to my music on my 14 speakers in my room. (NO KIDDING LOL) And today I was thinking about... HDMI... Audio?! Yes, but - I don't want to cut my only one hdmi cable which my parents use. So, I thought maybe my USB 2.0 port can emit audio, I have some spare USB cables lying to throw out, could I make it possible to connect a 3.5mm jack with the USB to the white and green cables? (USB pinout and wiring @ pinouts.ru) I don't care if it will be mono sound or stereo, I just want sound in my speakers again
Also I don't know If I had to post this in the Hardware & Devices section but I personally think this question fits better here.

P.S.: I think I'll need some software.. if yes: I am running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bits SP1 on a Acer Aspire 5742G Intel i3 370m 2.4ghz , 4 gb ddr3 ram, ATI Radeon Mobility HD 5470 512 M GDDR3, 2 free usb ports on the right side, 1 for the mouse on the left, HDMI Ethernet and VGA on the left side (+ power source adapter which also was broken but I've fixed it).

Edit2:
Btw, I don't want to(Well.... Can't) spent any $$$ on any adaptors now...

Edit3:
Well else I will have to get the screwdriver, openup the laptop and connect some wires to the laptop speaker... But that's the last thing I want to do. If nothing else will help.

Preferred Solution: Can I Directly output audio from USB to 3.5mm jack?(My jack is broken)

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello ;)

I will give a brief account of how this happened. I was listening to music, with the speaker cable plugged into the audio output jack. I moved suddenly, not realising the speaker cable was wrapped around my leg, thus yanking it out of the audio output quite violently. I quickly realised that I had broken the audio output jack, and not the speaker cable, as headphones also don't work at all and the stereo cable works fine in my flat mate's laptop.

My question is this: is it possible to switch the audio output jack with the microphone/line in jack?

This would be a very simple way to solve my problem. I have searched in google and it seems some people can do this with their audio drivers/software. I searched through the very limited "SmartAudio" software in the control panel, and as far as I can tell it is absolutely useless. Windows own sound settings did not yield the answer either.

Anyway, is there anyway I can do this? And if not, would I have to replace the sound card? Or is the sound card integrated into the motherboard?

This is quite distressing for me, being a somewhat rampant audiophile, any help in this matter would be much appreciated

> My question is this: is it possible to switch the audio output jack with the microphone/line in jack?
No, I don?t think this is possible. The mic and headphone jack are part of the motherboard?
I?m not quite sure if this tiny part can be replaced separately? I assume this is not possible and in such case the motherboard needs to be replaced :(

Hello Forum, I hope I'm posting this in the right place...?

My device:G780 Notebook (M843RGE I3-2370M), Windows 7
Audio Driver: Conexant Audio Driver for Microsoft Windows 7 Version  8.54.32.50 (Smart Audio: 6.0.131.0)

Situation:My headphone jack is broken. Repair is too expensive. Instead, I want to redirect the audio signal to the microphone jack.

Problem:This seems not to be possible with my SmartAudio interface (Screenshot below). But I found a screenshot of exactly the function I need called "Jack Configuration" in the Help section (second screenshot below). It looks like I dont have the right system configuration (whatever that means, I'm not an IT/PC expert ...) to use this feature.

My question:
Is there any way I can reconfigure the audio jacks on my notebook? Do I need another Conexant Audio Driver software and if yes, which one?

I'm grateful for any helpful reaction!

Hello,My problem is this: I have an old  set of speakers such that the left speaker eventually stopped working.
Upon taking it apart, turns out the wire was just pulled away from the solder to the pins.I replaced the wire and it was good as new.
After a few months of use, (once in a while use) the left speaker "stopped" workingI later discovered that it still works, but is very very quiet.Such that, I have to set the right speaker balance to 9% and left to 100% to get the same volume from both speakers.I took it apart today, re-glued the wires back to the pins, no difference.
So I am wondering, with Dell Audio client, and my Dell xps 8700, which has a front and back 3.5mm audio jacks, can I set the balance to the front port to be my 100/9 for the speakers, and 100/100 for the back which connects to my headphones?
I took a look in the audio client, but it looks like no such option exists.Do I go looking for a new set of speakers or is there an easy option here?

Answer:Can you change the balance output on a specific audio jack output with Dell Audio?

I believe both jacks are controlled and connected to the same ports and software so directing one to do one thing and another to do something different isn't possible as far as I know.  Maybe someone will have a different answer, but I don't think Dell's software is advanced enough.

Hey guys! I want to output sound both through the headphone jack on the front of my case and the sound jack at the back of the computer, how would i do this? I looked around in the sound setttings and the realtek audo and couldn't find anything.

Answer:How do i output sound through the back panel jack and the front jack

Some RealTek HD Audio Managers have an option to either mute the speakers when a headset is plugged in or like what you want, do not mute the speakers.

On mine, click on Device Advanced Settings and it brings up another screen with the options.

When I plug headphones into the headphone jack, the internal speakers turn offas expected, but there i no audio from in the phones. I hear a very faint, steady,  tone in the phones. Laptop is a Lenove G50, windows 10, phones are tested good. Is there a setting I need to use to turn on the headphone jack?

Answer:G50 - Windows 10 - audio output jack

I had the same problem and it bugged me for a long time. The solution I found worked for me was to go to Control Panel and open it. Then go to the top right hand corner and click on ?View by:?Choose from the drop down menu ?small icons?. You should now see a list of options. Look for an icon that has a headset on it. Run your arrow over it and you should see the program name ?SmartAudio?.  Click on the icon and it will open with two separate windows on your left. One window will have a microphone icon and volume control, the other a speaker and volume control. Plug in your headphone and the top icon (speaker) should change to a headphone icon. You can now adjust the volume and you will (hopefully) find the headphones work. When you unplug the headphones the speaker icon will return. Hope this helped.

My external speakers work fine, are loud for a laptop, really.

When I plug my headphones into the headphone jack (and yes, it's the right jack), there's no change, the audio continues from the external speakers.

I had the motherboard replaced recently, as it went dead, by a Dell tech, so could he have put it back together incorrectly?

Thanks for your help.

It sounds like the headphone jack wasn't connected back to the motherboard, or perhaps the tech mixed up the mic/headphone jacks.

I have this flat screen tv that I bought not too long ago. I would like to connect headphones to this tv to watch regular television but there is one big problem. It does not have a headphone jack nor audio rca(red/white) outputs. This pretty strange since this is a fairy new tv. Is there any way I can connect headphones to this tv? Would I need any adapters like somehow converting one of the audio rca inputs to an output so I can use this cable:

Question: broken audio jack

I somehow managed to break off the tip of my headset in my laptop any ideas for how to get it out ot any possible work arounds so I can have sound

Answer:broken audio jack

Depends on how deep it is broken off you can maybe fish it out with a tiny drill bit by drilling just a little into the back end of the stump in the jack but it takes a very steady hand not to damage it worse and possibly the motherboard. Can't really have any other sound through the laptop speakers but you can drive headpones or an external speaker with a usb sound card. Very cheap on amazon.com https://www.amazon.com/Aluminum-External-Headphone-Microphone-Compatible/dp/B014ANW4VU/ref=sr_1_2?s=...

Question: broken audio jack

I don't know if this is the right place for my problem? A few months ago while I was in the process of moving I had my compaq presario 6027us on the dinner table temporarily. One day I came home from work to find that either the kids or my cats had been playing behind my computer. I noticed that I was not getting any sound from my headphones that I had plugged into the factory audio jack. when I looked behind the computer I was I found that someone had broken the headphone jack's metal prong half way down. It had broken off at the first little plastic ringlet on the jack. So to make a long story short how do I get the broken off piece out? I don't want to have to buy a new sound card. I would rather not send out to compaq/hewlett for a new part. Has anyone had this problem before?

Answer:broken audio jack

If anyone even has any clue as to how I can fix this ANY suggestions at all please help.

Ok so I have an on going problem, I have already sent this laptop in twice for so called "repair" and nothing is done. My audio jack is broken, when I use headphones the sound comes in so poor it's almost like a white noise. Tried 2 new pairs of headphones, same problem. I've talked to 3 people now through HP support and I don't think they know too much about laptops honestly..... I really need this fixed and i'm quite fed up with the lack of help.

Okay this has been bugging me for a while. I've been wanting to separate my audio jacks into different devices, for example have music playing from my speakers but not my headset and instead have teamspeak coming through my headset but not my speakers. All of my audio jacks fall under the 1 device, "speakers" but I want something like speakers but also headphones where my speakers are just my rear panel ports and my headphones are my front port. I hope the screen shots help a bit. I know you can have usb headphones, is there a way to associate this front port with a usb audio device or something? :/

Answer:All output audio jack falling under one device

You can only have one default audio playback device. Thus what you want doesn't look doable.

Hello everyone,

I want to know if you can run an audio output and input at the same time to record to my HDD with the built in Win7 SoundRecorder?

I have been trying to record (unsuccessfully) streaming Sirius internet radio using my JRivers MC v17, and while it will record, the resultant file will not play, either with MC or WMP. And the file size is always 4kb, no matter how long i record for.

So i found Audacity software which will let you do this:

Tutorial - Recording Computer Playback on Windows - Audacity Manual

(scroll down to the Loopback cable section)
But i want to know if you can do it with the installed SoundRecorder. Now I should say that i will be using the output from my Audioquest Dragonfly DAC, which is installed via a USB port, not the lime green output. I will unplug my powered Mackie monitors and hook up a small 3.5mm patch cable.

Any help would be appreciated!!

Answer:Can you use the audio output and input jack at the same time?

You have RealTek PC audio. Have the "Stereo Mix" set as the default recording device and you will be able to directly record streaming audio with Audacity. Nothing else is needed.

You can probably do it with all the extra equipment, but its not needed and can really get in the way for recording streaming internet audio.

I have Goldwave and use that for the same thing, but Audacity will record from the Stereo Mix so that's all you need.

I recently installed a Kinivo Bluetooth adapter (BTD-400) on my HP G71-340US laptop (Windows 7 64-bit OS).  Although the bluetooth adapter works as expected, my headphones don?t get any audio output when plugged into the laptop jack.  I checked the Manage Audio Devices / Sound / Playback panel and the ?Independent Headphones? (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC) are in working order.  In fact, the Headphones can be seen changing status on the Playback panel when I plug in or remove the headphone connection.  So the hardware seems to be working fine just like before. I ran the Microsoft Troubleshooting tool and it did find an issue with the Independent Headphones but was unable to automatically fix it.  The problem was identified as: Audio device isn't set as default.  However, the "Independent Headphones" are listed as the "Default Communications Device" on the Playback tab. I?m not sure what I need to do next to resolve this issue.  Please advise. Thanks.Jeff

Hi,Not sure if this is the right section.I had a old Hi-Fi radio woofer, please look at the attachment.I would like to use the speaker with my desktop, as you know behind the desktop only had 1 jack which is not compatible with my woofer cables. I need to know what universal jack i can use to solve my problem, where to buy it online, or recommend me something.I did try to find it in eBay but i don't know which one should i get.[recovering disk space, attachment deleted by admin]

Answer:Looking for Hifi Radio audio jack compatible with my desktop audio jack

I would buy or use a stereo or amp with audio input, and drive the woofer(s) speakers etc through that. You will need a stereo phono male jack to another male stereo phono jack or a stereo phono male jack to RCA male usually red and white for left and right sound.Your computer can not drive these directly without killing the soundcard which may be integrated to the computer. If you do get any sound and drive it with sound card directly the sound will probably be a anything from nothing heard to a whisper of sound.Definately drive them with an amp or stereo that has aux audio input.  http://www.newark.com/jsp/search/productdetail.jsp?SKU=96T7442&CMP=KNC-GPLA&mckv=|pcrid|27090073821|plid|or this onehttp://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?seq=1&format=2&p_id=4792&CAWELAID=1329450515&catargetid=320013720000011015&cadevice=c&cagpspn=pla&gclid=CKuFjrDu5LkCFSU6QgodPjQAlADepending on the amp or stereo used to drive the speaker/woofer(s) you may need to add RCA plugs to the end of the stripped wire if they are not quick release like these appear to have come from and make sure you have correct polarity to avoid damage.*** Once when my sound system died, I simply plugged my computers audio output to the aux audio input of a large 1980s boom box and used that for sound and it worked quite well. Could even record stuff to tape..lol

Well, I uninstalled my audio drivers and noticed that there was a red led shining from inside the 3.5mm headphone jack, which I assume is a mini optical audio (digital) combo 3.5mm audio (analog) jack, and I am figuring that it determins if there is an optical plug or not using drivers, which is why it turned on when I unistalled my audio drivers. I would like to know for sure before I go and buy a mini optical to toslink adpater cable so I can get better audio quality out (the digital interface does not suffer from the interference that the analog does right?). I did some research (research is a bit of an overstatement) and found no sites that mentioned it, so I have decided to turn to the forums. So, is this an optical jack combo? And, how will it work in terms of the drivers, will it just auto select? Thanks.

I got 5.1 integrated audio on my motherboard and I'm using 2.1 speakers. Got the green jack plugged into the front port and the pinky orange one in the Center/LFE port.

Problem is the left speaker is either quieter than the right or completely off. I wiggle the green jack cable and sometimes it comes back. Plugged the green jack into my iPod and both speakers work fine.

I think this is the second or third time I've had this failure. Quite sure the jack is busted but my question is how did I break it?

Is it a bad idea to pull the jacks out or plug them in while the computer and speakers are both powered up? It's the only thing I can think of that might have caused one of the channels to act up. They were both working when I assembled the computer.

When I get some more time, I'll try to look into the jack to see if the contacts are dirty or bent. Quite annoying either way

Answer:Integrated Audio Jack broken?

If 'wiggling' the speaker plug either creates a crackle, or turns back on - then unfortunately there's a high chance it might be damaged.

It doesn't make any difference plugging/unplugging when the power is on or not. The power output is minute.

As for breaking, sometimes an unintended 'tug/jerk' when moving the speakers or tower can do it. They aren't the most robust things. Pulling them out at a slight angle can also have an impact. There's really a single reason why it occurs.

One thing that may work as an adhoc temp fix is to apply some blu tack (or adhesive putty) to the plug of the speakers and mold it around the jack when it's in a working position. This should try to avoid movement knocking the jack/plug contact.

My mother had an accident with my laptop and broke the audio jack completely off the motherboard (I opened the case and took it out). Now, I have no sound because the accident caused my speakers to stop working somehow. I already ordered a pci express sound card (I like my headphones!), but I'd like to be able to listen to things while I'm waiting for it to come.

Is there any way to get the internal speakers to work? Do you need an audio jack in the machine for the speakers to work?

Hello, I recently purchased a Y40 laptop (and just received it two days ago). Today was my first time trying out the audio combo jack.  However, I quickly discovered to my dismay that the combo jack was broken. I connected in my headphones, which fit rather loosely and fell out of the jack as soon as I took the pressure off of it. I then tried a variety of other headphones, earphones, etc. All of them fell out, having notably fit rather loosely.  While I pressed on my headphones (to hold them in), I DID get a notification on screen that I was plugging somehting in. When I released my headphones (and they fell out), I then got a noification that I was unplugging something. So I don't think this is a software problem.  I did already see the previous posts (regarding the Y50s), the solutions posed don't seem likely to help. Any advice would be appreciated--I am heading off to college soon and would like to have this situation under control before that happens! Slightly panicking.  Thanks!

Answer:Realtek Audio Jack Output Assignment Troubleshooting

1. I see you have the "High Definition Audio" as the device type. That suggests that you do not have the RealTek sound driver installed. Instead just the basic function Microsoft/Windows sound driver.

I have RealTek and I have a RealTek HD Audio Manager that will allow SOME (not all) jack assignment changes.

You can only have one default audio playback device and if I understand you correctly, you can't have different devices for different outputs. You can have "Stereo" (2 channel) or 2.1 speaker system that is connected to the Green speaker jack. OR you could have a 5.1 speaker system with the the THREE connections to the PC. But, you can't have one jack for one device or speaker system and another for a different speaker system.

Hi there,

I have an Asus G 50vt, a few days ago I had it hooked up to a stereo system and tripped on the wire connected to the Audio jack. The Headphone jack now has half of the head stuck inside and I was unable to remove it.

I am wondering if there is a way to reassign the headphone output to the Line in or Mic in jacks?
[/B]
Any help would be appreciated

Answer:Changing Audio Jack output (from headphone to Mic in/line in)

I know you can do that, I have seen it with some creative programs, im not too sure if your asus will do that, but I think the easiest option is to get that headphone jack out. you'd be surprised how easy it can be once you open your laptop up. another option (i would think - but try last) would be to get some super glue (only a little bit) and try to stick something to that headphone output to pull it out. - i was about to suggest soldering something, but dont worry about that, small amount of superglue might be the way to go alternatively buying an external sound card might be an option $20US

Hi
!'ve got a probelm with my compaq 615
i had a problem with my audio quitting on me after the laptop went to sleep (which required a reboot) so i reinstalled the drivers (IDT HD)
now my laptop speakers are set as the default audio device and my headphone jack is set as the default communications device .. what kind of nonsense is that..
anywho.. all efforts trying to tell the pc i want the headphones as default speakers were in vain... it won't change any settings
simply disabling the speakers isn't a real solution either because i would still like to be able to use the media keys on my keyboard to adjust the volume.. i can't use them on a device that isn't the default however
i tried reinstalling the drivers aswell with no results

does anyone know what could help?

Hey guys, I just had this happen to me and I am very frustrated. Nothing like this has ever happened before, so I don't know how to go about fixing it. I love listening to music and watching videos on my laptop, but a few days ago, everything started to sound like total crap. I realized that it's because nothing had any bass to it anymore. I've tried plugging in various headphones and speakers, but they all have the same problem. Note that all of these headphones and speakers work perfectly when plugged into other devices/computers.

I used this YouTube video to test my audio and I could not hear anything below 80Hz.

Warranty: expired
Audio driver: IDT high definition audio CODEC (latest driver from HP website)
The laptop uses Beats audio.
This is an issue with plugging speakers/headphones into the 3.5mm audio jack. Yes, I'm aware that the regular laptop speakers do not output bass to begin with. This is not about the internal laptop speakers.
No, I did not stick anything into the 3.5mm audio jack.

Things I tried...

1. Checking with multiple headphones and speakers
2. Restarting the computer
3. Checking for updates to the audio driver (none found)
4. Rolling back the audio driver - this caused the computer to output NO sound when something was plugged into the audio jack, but the internal spea... Read more

Answer:Bass output range (though 3.5mm audio jack) suddenly gone

Check the configuration of the Beats Audio. It is an "enhancement" to the basic PC sound. I don't have Beats so I can't say what all it does, but I suspect there are different music settings and an equalizer in it. Beats is known for boosting bass, so another reason to check the Beats configuration.

Hey guys,So I was working on my HP Pavillion notebook and I accidentally tangled my earphone around my neck and broke them, leaving the headphone 3.5mm tip in the audio jack.        I tried everything to remove it, I soldered the end of the broken piece back onto it and tried to pull it out but couldn't, I tried super glue, and glue gun but everything failed. I even contacted and reached out the service centre in my city but they said they will charge me for the whole board coz they won't fix it and instead they will replace it (even though my laptop was only 2 months old). I have given up on getting rid of the broken piece and want any of you guys to help me changing my driver. I tried to uninstall the audio jack from device manager and enabled the speakers but it still won't work I tried several ways to contact HP support but they are out of reach and won't have a similar issue on its forums and guides. if you guys could help me out, that would be amazing.Thank you!.

Hello to all,

The 3.5mm jack audio socket of my Asus N550JK is broken and I need to replace it. So far I wasn't able to find it on any stores, so I need to find another one that is similar and that could work.
Here my problem. The original one (a really really bad choise by Asus) is a 6 pins footprint socket. It's a combo connector, so what I can count is at most: GND+L+R+Mic+Switch that are 5 pins. What is the 6th pin for? I can see inside the socket (in fact it is completely destroyed) and none of them are connected together.

Do you know any jack socket with 6 pins that I could use?

If I use a 5 pins socket, that maybe is easier to find, could I be sure that it will work? Will all the connections needed be at right position?

Any suggestion, idea or whatever is very appreciated!

Thank you,
Marco

I have a 3 year old Inspiron 15z that has a broken audio jack.  I had to use it for a presentation and when I plugged the speaker system into the headphone jack, it was popping, cracking and snapping.  I took the laptop apart and the black casing on the jack is badly cracked and 2 of the pins are badly bent.  No idea how this could have happened.  I don't think I have ever used headphones on this laptop.  At any rate, would like to replace the jack but cannot find a manufacturer.  The number on the jack is 120926.  Does anybody know where I can buy a replacement?
Thanks

Answer:Inspiron 15z 5523 audio jack broken

Hello. Probably the best bet would be to find someone on ebay who is selling salvaged parts from that model.
You could contact the parts-people.com -- who are experts on Dell parts -- and see if they have anything. If you cannot get the part, or find that it is too difficult to install it, you can use a usb audio jack instead.

Hi, i have an HP dv9000 laptop with a broken headphone jack. The headphone jack was working and i was listening to music while it broke. My laptop has two headphone jacks and a microphone jack. The two headphone jacks both broke at the same instant when i plugged in a second headphone. The problem seems to be hardware related because when both versions of windows that i have installed, windows 7 and windows xp, do not give out sound to the headphone jacks. Good thing i have another laptop of the exact same model that broke a while back. i could take the needed part from the broken computer and build it into the working one. All i need is some instructions on how to do so.
Thank you for any help.

Hi all

When I plug in my headphones on my laptop (Satellite L850-147) and try to listen to music, I hear only music (the instrumental parts) .. from far away, I can hear the singer's voice.

I found a turnaround by putting the balance setting in realtek audio HD manager to 100% left or 100% right...
But it's not the way music have to be played...

I reinstalled the Realtek Audio HD manager but no sucess...
Any idea?

I am one of those unfortunate souls with a laptop that has a single jack both for audio output and microphone input. When I plug a lapel mic into it, the computer doesn't even notice it's there, and keeps making me use its crummy internal mic. How do I persuade it to check to see if maybe I have an external mic plugged in? If I had a dedicated mic input jack, I am fairly confident it would work.

I've heard a lot of people struggle with this single-jack thing. What do I do? Thanks.

Hello my dear fellow windows 7 users!

A few days ago, one half of the jack of my external speakers got stuck in the female jack of my PC laptop.
I am using Realtek HD audio, and I wanted to ask whether it is possible for me to somehow disable the jack and have my audio played through my normal inbuilt laptop speakers, seeing as I will be needing audio from my computer as soon as possible.

Here is a snapshot of my audio devices - and as you can see the speakers and headphones are under one device so I can't switch between the two..

Please help
Thanks alot.

Answer:Audio jack stuck in PC input jack...?

You will need to get the broken piece out. Sometimes a strong magnet will dislodge it. Some RealTek's have a control panel that will allow you to reassign jacks, but I don't know if that will even do you any good.

If you have one it will be located in Start/Control Panel/Hardware and Sound.

I came to know that it's possible to switch the microfone jack to use it has a audio jack, but I cant figure or research how. I use windows home premium 64bits.

Answer:how do I switch micro jack to a audio jack

Some, but not all, have the capability to reallocate jacks. If you have RealTek, the RealTek HD Audio Manager that is located in the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound Panel is where its located (but not on all RealTek's). If you have some other on-board audio check to see if there is a simi;ar Audio Manager and the options.

If there is no jack reassignment available for your PC/motherboard you can use the rear Speaker jack for headphones. Some also have a "Line Out" and you can also use that for the headphones.

Answer:Audio jack stuck in PC input jack...?

There is a contact switch inside that audio port that switches the built in speakers off when a jack is inserted.
This is a physical switch so the issue is hardware. I doubt there will be any software solution for it.

So your mission is to remove that broken jack. If you are uncomfortable taking a laptop apart you might consider taking it to a repair shop.

Well, the title pretty much explains it all. I really didn't mind the battery anchor tabs being broken-- nothing duct tape cant fix (though its pretty tacky and irritating for a laptop with only a little more than a year on it...), or the audio jack being loose-- I can just be careful with it and it'll work ok most of the time (but still very irritating since its such a young laptop and I take good care of it). However, the pen's tab broke off within the first year of use. Pretty cheap plastic and very flimsy design. Ever since, it was doing fine when put into its storage slot, however it has recently become stuck. I can't get the pen to come out. This really does make a mess of things, because without the pen I might as well have a regular laptop. I kind of need the pen to get any of my work done, so I'm looking for a way to get this serviced. And why not kill three birds with one stone? What is the most efficient way to go about getting these things corrected? Hi everyone,

I recently reinstalled Windows 7 pro on my PC. Sound was working fine before. Now Windows only shows a front jack in the sound playback device settings. There is no front jack, however, only a rear jack and it is not working. If I play music the levels monitor shows sound playing, but nothing comes out the rear 3.5mm headphones jack. Drivers all claim to be correct and up to date. I tried disabling the "Audio legacy front panel" in BIOS, and left audio set to enabled, to no avail. I attach a screenshot. Any suggestions?

Many thanks for any ideas!

bobsy welcome to the Seven Forums.

You need to install the driver for your sound, as it is currently running on the default Windows audio driver. Can;t tell you what it is you need as you didn't include the make and model of either the computer or motherboard.

Hello

ive been facing a weird problem, when i connect my microphone to the mic jack (the pink one) in the back of my computer, the audio software (i recently installed VIA Audio HD) sees it as it was connected to the line in jack ( the blue one). Also i dont have any front panel jacks, but the system thinks that i have them connected. as in the screenshot:

the line in device set as default is in fact the microphone attached to the mic jack.

anyway, when i uninstall the driver and run the windows troubleshooter, the mic starts working fine, but the audio jacks isnt recognized, just the hdmi ports from my GPU.

im using an Phitronics H55-m motherboard.

any suggestions please?

Answer:Microphone rear jack recognized as line in jack

In Control Panel/Sounds highlight Line IN and right click it and if you have the choice, uncheck Set As Default.
Now click the Configuration button Then Test.
You can also highlight the Microphone and do the same.
In the Via Control panel you can go to Expert Mode and disable the Front Panel. You can also click on each front panel port in the software and disable it or set it to default

If it is like this one

This will surely work as it is an external Audio Device Already.
This act as a different sound card connected externally through a USB.

Answer:How do I get my two jack headset microphone to work with a single jack?

Dear AbigailCW, I'm afraid this won't work. Two jacks, which used to be a standard on older PCs, served as output for audio and input for mic, simply put, audio went out, voice went in via your mic. This has been changed now due to recent trends and can be annoying for most of the users.  I solved this issue by buying a USB soundcard with these two inputs and it cost me approximately 10 USD. As the USB soundcards provides additional gain boost as well, I have better sound now than ever. Might be worth a shot. Best regards.

Alright, so here's the problem. I just recently got this computer and plugged it into the VGA port and the sound wouldn't work. I plugged Logitech External Speakers into it and the computer didn't even acknowledge that it was there. I plugged in Headphones to see if those worked and they didn't aswell. I asked the guy who I got the computer from and he said that it (sound) would work when plugged in using HDMI. So I did that and the sound does work, but only through the TV speakers. It still doesn't acknowledge the speakers or the headphone s when plugged in. So I wen t and grabbed some other speakers I had and tried those and It still didn't recognize the speaker. My question is: How Do I Get My Computer To Recognize My Speakers? Any help would be much appreiciated.

Just wanting to understand....Compaq Presario 5310 running Windows XP Pro.  I have a Memorex external DVD player plugged in to a USB port and also an internal CD-RW without the analog audio wired to the motherboard.  Both devices will play using either Real Player or Windows Media player, but will only run sound to the headphone jack on the back of the computer.  The headphone jack on each device would be a much more convienient point of access for my headphones.  Intel 82801BA/BAM AC'97 Audio Controller is running the multimedia output.  I could run down to Radio Shack or anywhere and buy a 6 foot extension to pipe the audio from the back of the computer, but that is admitting defeat.  Guess I'm half stubborn and half wanting to learn.  What do I need to modify to get the headphone jack delivering audio output on the external DVD player or the internal CD-RW?Thanks to the experts for sharing what they've learned.

Atleast now i can change the ports by editing the Pin binary numbers! . If you can't change jack output assignment this will fix it oh and it sounds great ., i turned my Center/Subwoofer to front speaker out put so my rears are stereo just like my fronts and not speaker filled rubbish

Answer:Realtek HD Changing Jack output reassignments ( FIX )

Had this problem with my Realtek as well (one of the jacks were broken)
This reassignment worked fine for me, with the exception that the registry entries wouldn't show up.

I am pretty sure they finally showed up after unplugging and replugging the jacks, and rebooting, then I could reassign and reboot for full audio.

This is the best solution I can find ANYWHERE I'd hate to see this knowledge disappear into some archive.

Example if i want "Pin01" = rear black-coded "RR RL" jack to be front speakers all i have to do is Pin01 - 04 00 00 00.

Atleast now i can change the ports by editing the Pin binary numbers! . If you can't change jack output assignment this will fix it oh and it sounds great ., i turned my Center/Subwoofer to front speaker out put so my rears are stereo just like my fronts and not speaker filled rubbish

I have a strange problem. When I am using headphones the Mic that is built into the system works FINE. However when I start outputing with a 3.5 mm to red/white composite to my sound system, the Mic stops working. On my T61p the mic/speaker jacks were separate, and I could output audio to my sound system for playing Left 4 Dead 2 and still use the Mic that is built in to talk to the other players. Now when I have my awesome surround sound rocking, the Mic is no longer an option. THIS SUCKS. Does anyone know a way I can force the Mic to stay enabled?

Answer:Mic get's disabled when 3.5mm output jack (non-headphones) is plugged in?

I assume this is on the new T410/T510 with the combined jack? You can try this if your on Windows 7. Control PanelShow all iconsFind SMART AUDIO icon and dobule clickOne of the tabs has an options for CLASSIC or MULTISTREAMChange it to MULTISTREAMGo back to Control PanelOpen Sound PropertiesOn playback and recording tabs right click to SHOW DISABLED DEVICESThat should separate all the jacks and options into separate jack that you can control, set as default or disable.  Just plug in your heading, swithc to the MIC tab and then set the internal as the default.  Should do the trick.

Hi all,

Most of the time, I can't get any sound in my headphones. Sometimes it works, though, depending on Windows's launch. I mean, if it works, it will work flawlessly as long as I don't restart my laptop.

Config:
Toshiba C660-2D6
Windows 7
Realtek HD Audio
NVIDIA HD Audio

I have the latest version of the Realtek driver installed, yet Realtek Manager doesn't detect my headphones plugged in. They actually don't even show up in the sound devices window, even when sound works through them. I have screen captures available of what the software says with headphones jacked in, but I can't get them show up here. The "Insert image" thing doesn't seem to work. Here are the URLs anyway:

Realtek | Flickr - Photo Sharing!
Gest_son | Flickr - Photo Sharing!

I only have this problem with Windows. I have Ubuntu installed in dual boot and sound works perfectly, both in speakers and headphones. So, I know it is not a hardware problem. My wife has an ASUS with Realtek and NVIDIA installed as well but with old drivers, and she doesn't have any problem.

Any help appreciated!

Answer:Sound through jack output works randomly

Hello

I have been having problems with sound the last days. I have to move the headphones' jack to a position where they work perfectly, but they work ok in every other devices without doing this. I tried with other headphones and the problem is the same, so it seems to be a internal problem of the jack, what can I do?

Thanks.

Answer:Satellite C55-A-1H9 - output jack seems to be detached from motherboard

I see two options to solve this:
1/ contact nearest Toshiba service, explain the situation and ask for help.
2/ you can buy small USB adapter

If your notebook has valid warranty, try to contact Toshiba service. I hope they can fix it for you. For free of course.

Hello,
I tripped on the cord and pulled my laptop off the table it was resting on. It fell directly on the side where the internet jack is, jamming the cable into the jack, which was afterward visibly crooked. I have had not connectivity since the incident. My brother took the laptop apart enough to physically adjust the jack so that it LOOKS corect, but that didn't help. I have an e-machines M5414 that is less than 2 years old. I called one local computer repair shop, who told me they would not be able to fix it without replacing the mother board. Do I have any other options? If not, how much would I expect to pay for a mother board? (I know VERY little about computers.)
Thank you!

Assuming it isnt under warranty your best bet is to take it to a pro especially if it is a laptop.

There is a workaround. You could get a USB headset, or a mini din to USB converter.

I've been having problems charging my Samsung laptop, the charger has to be held in a certain position in order for it to work. I've tried two chargers, both with the same problem. It seems like it's a problem with the dc jack but it was only replaced a few months ago (it was getting very hot all the time). Is there something else that could be going wrong? Is there any way to find out for certain?

Answer:DC power jack broken or something else?

First, gt a manual for that laptop and see if there is some defective way to repair the connection.Workaround: Find some device that lets you charge the battery outside of the laptop. Of course, that would only be a temporary solution.

Hey people,

Well I have this hp Pavilion zt1180 (Running Windows XP Home edition) laptop for about 5 years, its one of my most favorite laptops besides my Apple laptops, So one day I was using my hp normally and then the hp warns me that I had low battery so I check on the back of the hp and I see that the charger is conected properly so why the h*** isn't it working? so I unplug the charger from the DC Power Jack and I turned off my hp laptop and got a pen, I poked the DC Power Jack and I saw how it moved out of place (it wasn't attached to the motherboard anymore) and I could see that it was cracked (like broken).

All I just need help in is, does some one know a website that could give me step by step on how to open the laptop? Because I've tried my self removing the case and its pretty hard, or can some one here give me steps on how to remove the case and solder the new DC Power Jack onto the motherboard?

All I just want is to have my hp laptop working again, please..

Thanks!

I have an HP ze4145 (Laptop) and my headphone jack after 2 years has broken on me. Before it completely broke I would have to move the plug around inside the jack to try and get the right connection. Now that im completely missing a headphone jack I have two questions. First, is there any way i can disable the jack and force all of the audio to come out of my laptop speakers? and Second, Would i be able to buy a new jack or soundcard and how much would it cost on average? Thank you to anyone who can help.

a while back, i bought a logitech headset with seperate speaker and microphone jacks. everything was working fine, ventrilo was working perfectly. then, one day, my microphone stopped working. i cant remember if i possibly updated something that screwed it up, but i know it still doesnt work.

i went to buy another headset yesterday, thinking it would work, but THAT microphone also doesnt work.

is it the physical microphone port itself? or is it something with settings on my PC that i need to change?

thanks!

Answer:microphone jack broken?

Hello mrpainless45, I have experienced the same problem and fixed same by double clicking the speaker icon in the system tray and then clicking options, properties and then scrolling down to microphone and checking the box. Once that box is checked click OK .That allows me to see if the microphone is turned off. I hope this helps.

So I have two audio jacks on my PC - one in the front for headphones and one in the rear for speakers. When you plug the headphones into the front jack it automatically turns off the speakers in the rear.

Several months ago the tip of the plug on my headphones broke off inside the front jack. Thus, my computer thinks that I have a pair of headphones plugged in and will not play sound through the headphones.

Is there anyway to bypass the speakers on the front so that the rear speakers will play?

I've gone too long without being able to play music on my PC.

Any help would be great!

I've seen other threads on this, but they show a different layout than my laptop does. I don't have the 5.1 orange, black, green, etc rear outputs... my probelm should be super simple, i just have 2 jacks: pink for mic and green for headphones front jacks.
I don't have that automatic Realtek pop up audio jack reassignment for some reason like my desktop does. If I did, I would just say that I'm plugging in headphones to the mic input. But for some reason, this new laptop doesn't do that.

Basically, I just want to change the pink mic jack to be another audio OUTPUT, so that the mic in now shows in "playback devices" instead of under "recording devices" I have found the place where the registry keys are for reassigning the audio jacks, the problem is, when I change the registry key that points to the mic (pink front jack)... realtek changes it back to it's previous state after restart.

Other threads say "Pin19" = Front Mic-In (front pink)
This does not seem to be true in my case. They are different, possibly because I only have the 2 jacks. My front pink mic in seems to be "pin01". I can change "pin01" to whatever binary value i want, and then when I restart, Realtek changes it back to binary value "01 00 00 00". What am I doing wrong? Do I have to uninstall the realtek driver, update the binary values and then reinstall the realtek drivers? What am I missing?

hi

Every time I wanna use speakers instead headphones,I have to use the same headphones output (green one - back panel), and therefor to disconnect and connect cables.. not very comfortable

I've tried to use the black output, and it worked, but only as a 'rear speakers', both left and right channels worked!

Is it possible to make the rear black output to work as FRONT speakers ?? this way ill be able to have both speakers and headphones available at the same time

In other simple words:Can I use rear speakers as FRONTS ?(when connector to the black rear output)

BTW;I don't wanna use the front panel, only the back panel

Thank you!

Answer:REALTEK|using front speakers through rear output jack - possible?

Easiest way would be to use an external speaker switch, since you do not want to use the conventional method with the front panel headphone jack.

With an external switch you could select either the speakers or headphone.

I don't know what sound you have but the only option is RealTek audio is to mute or not mute the speakers when a headset is plugged into the front panel headphone jack. There's no way, that I know of, to route primary audio to some other jack.

I have tried a LOT of different things to get my HDMI port to work but I will follow any advice in specific order if anyone can suggest a good starting point. Ideally, this is a common problem and I just have yet to find the resource to address it.
Even though I have an integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000, device manager indicates that "NVIDIA 4200M (PCI bus 1, device 0, function 0) Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43)." Is this driver only for monitors that I would hook up to my Latitude that contain corresponding NVIDIA hardware/software? (i.e. does this NVIDIA 4200M have anything to do with why my HDMI output jack won't work?)
Please help as I have a Nixeus WQHD 27" Ultra High Resolution (2560 x 1440) that I am dying to use to its full potential. I'd even appreciate recommendations for an external GPU if it is that to which I am relegated .
Besides my Latitude E6420 (tag B7H07R1), I also have a Studio 1558 (tag 4MZ5DN1) if I can get my WQHD monitor to work on that any easier.
Thanks in advance and have a happy and SAFE Memorial Day weekend!

Hello.

I am searching for a way to play the audio from my pc to my speakers and my stereo set.

my stereo has a USB connection, my speaker set uses a mini-jack.

When I plug both in, only 1 plays the actual audio.
I googled around and it seems that that's just the way how windows 7 is programmed.
I download virtual audio cable to try and fix it, but I didn't know my way around it, started fiddling and failed.

My question is, can I forward the sound to the stereo-set and still have the same sound playing from the speakers?

Also, since it's actually a 2.0 and a 2.1 set, would it be possible (by using specific software) to make it a 4.1 set and so make it behave as such?

I hope it's understandable what I wrote, if it isn't, tell me and I'll try to explain myself better.

EDIT: since it's a problem in the software of windows 7, I put it in this section, is that okay?

E2: Also, my pc sometimes just freezes up and plays sound at 1/10 of the speed, cracks and then after 10 seconds just revives and goes along as if nothing happened.

E3: Also, at startup I sometimes see a glimpse of the command prompt (cmd.exe) could this be a bad sign or am I just paranoid?

Greets!

Answer:Multiple sound output through USB and mini-jack (on windows 7)

The audio source on your computer will only play on one output at a time. You could plug a Y jack into the headphones port and send that signal to 2 inputs, but it won't go to USB

i want to output sound through my digital output and through my front jacks at the same time, i.e while watching a movie through my digital output (monitor i.e video extended to my tv) and playing a game at the same time (game on my LCD), with sound coming out my front sound jack for the game. so basically in a nut shell, i want to watch movies and play games at the same time, while the respective sound comes through different outputs.

Answer:how do you output sound through digital and front jack at same time

I don't think you can currently do that with Vista (I certainly can't, anyway).

I find that I have to reconfigure my laptop every time I want to play a DVD through the HDMI port and then reconfigure it again when I've finished. I've seen many others posting about the same issue.

Hi,

Since few weeks my A660's audio driver behaves strangely. The built-in speakers are fine, the problem appears when I plug a jack cable in, either if it is an earphone or a 2.1 speaker. The system realizes that I plugged in something, the built-in speakers stay silent (as well as the device on the jack output), and when I remove the jack cable the built-in speakers are working again. The problem is clearly with the software/driver, as it appears only in Windows, everything runs smoothly under Ubuntu.

I am using Windows7, and everything is up to date. Disabling and later on re-enabling the "High Definition Audio Device" driver didn't solve the problem, as well as reinstalling the latest driver found on Toshiba's site. What could be wrong and how can I fix it?

Answer:Satellite A660, no sound on jack output (Windows7)

Did you check whether the headphones appear in
control panel -> sound -> playback tab
and are marked as default device?

If not do that… the headphones must be chosen as default device.

A minor piece of my Yoga 2 Pro power jack as broken. As you can see in this picture (link), a normal power jack has a piece of plastic in the center. On mine, that piece of plastic has broken off, leaving two wires in the center exposed, with three smaller wires exposed on either side. My laptop still draws power; what I'm wondering is whether I need to replace the power jack anyway. If I don't, is there a risk of shorting out the motherboard? Or can I assume that, since the laptop is drawing power, everything is fine? Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi. After some advice please. I have a broken headphone jack stuck in the desktop port. I need some advice on how to remove the broken jack or replace the port. If this is not possible how I can disable the headphone jack to restore external sound to the PC? Had a local chap look at it and said that the jack cannot be removed and to fix it would require a part that he cannot source as part of the motherboard?

Preferably a laptop repair specialist I would guess. You don't want to start messing around with the electricity in a computer unless you know what you're doing. Not sure where you live, but there might be some authorized Dell service places.

I have so many problems with this.
I would rather put it in the bin than repair it but unfortunately i have important documents that i haven't backed up.

Basically the pin in the jack of the laptop has broken and i cant power my laptop and my battery has run out of power

Is the battery pack in the A30-213 compatible with the battery in the A30 -714?

And has any one got any other solutions?

please reply asap

Answer:Satellite A30-213: broken pin in power jack

Hi

First of all some words about the battery;
If I?m not mistaken the Satellite A30-213 uses the same battery as the A30 -714.
Therefore you should be able to use the same battery in both A30 units.

Regarding the question about other solution;
Well, there is only one real solution. The power jack must be replaced.
I?m not sure if it?s soldered on the board or only plugged in. However, I recommend contacting the ASP in your country for a help.
Such replacement should be done always by a notebook technician because the disassembling procedure is very tricky and difficult.

Best regards and good luck
