Soft Recording volume with Blue Yeti, increasing volume distorts audio

Question: Soft Recording volume with Blue Yeti, increasing volume distorts audio

So I have a Blue Yeti, and I'm an online animator/voice actor. Whenever I record audio on my Blue Yeti (OR any other mic) I record about 4-6 inches from the mic, and turn the gain down enough that the audio doesn't peak as I yell or whatever. This is what you're supposed to do if you don't want your audio levels peaking and making your recording sound horrible and corrupted. However, afterwards, it means I have really quite recordings. Not a problem right? Now that it's recorded right, I can boost the volume of the entire clip afterwards right? WRONG. I'm not an audio expert so I must be missing something. But why in GODS NAME would the audio distort and peak AFTER it's recorded successfully? It's all there, it's all clean audio. If I turn the volume on my speakers all the way up it sounds CRYSTAL CLEAR! All I want to do is do that INSIDE the computer so that when I upload it to youtube people don't have to turn their speakers so far up. But if I increase the clips volume in the computer, it distorts! It sounds awful! Why?! I tried in Sony Acid and Audacity and they both do the same thing! Why?! I seriously don't understand what I'm missing here! I can take sound effects, and recordings made by other producers and crank them up nice and loud, but mine just fall apart! If anyone understands audio stuff, please tell me what I'm doing wrong.

Preferred Solution: Soft Recording volume with Blue Yeti, increasing volume distorts audio

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Soft Recording volume with Blue Yeti, increasing volume distorts audio

I have a home recording studio using Sonar X1 software.

I don't know about Acid, but it should allow clean recordings. Audacity the same way.

I record, generally, in the -10 level with my recording program, at 24 bits/44.1 Khz. At -10, I have plenty of headroom and can then adjust the levels after the recordings and at mixdown. I export the mix as a standard 16 bit/44.1Khz wav file and then "finalize" whatever I want to do to the song, including levels, with "Goldwave" (an audio editior).

I assume you are converting the audio to MP3? If that is the case, that may be where the distortion is occuring? I find that 128Kb MP3's are very poor and at a minimum use 198 Kb MP3's.

I just switched from Windows 2000 to Windows XP and I found that the default audio volume coming from my speakers has decreased significantly. I have to turn my amplifier up to almost maximum, when before half or a quarter were sufficient. Hearing anything actually loud is impossible.
Is there any way to increase the default volume ?

Answer:Increasing default audio volume

Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment -> Volume Control

Is that what you were looking for?

Specifically, WAVE output and Master output.

I listen to music through ear buds all day at work. Most of the time I just use my phone, but sometimes (like the past few days) the Verizon network is working like crap and I am forced to use my PC. I like my music loud. Loud enough to drown out ambient BS around me. The PC audio just doesn't go up that loud. Is there any way you know of to increase it beyond what it is now? I'm looking for something pretty simple that wouldn't require software installation or anything.

Answer:Increasing volume to audio out jack

Is this for online streaming radio, or for locally-saved music files?

Either're pretty much gonna have to have additional software.

Either some kind of EQ program or something like VLC Player which allows up to a 200% volume level.

Well here's the story, I have a Custom PC with a i7 3770k And a AsROcK b75-pro-3m motherboard with Realtek HD audio, but for some odd reason the sound is not very good, it feels moderate at full blast, where as in comparison with my very old C2D fujitsu Lifebook T4215 tablet PC, which can play music with these headphones at BLASTING noise (i tested out the headphones on another computer to ensure it's not them)

I notice too that a lot of these sites like the system specs so i shall list for you

Mobo: AsRoCk B75-Pro-3-M board
CPU: Intel Core i7 3770K HT On 3.5GHZ
Sound: Realtek High Definition audio with the latest driver, Set at studio quality (aka Highest quality)
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium SP1

I've also tried the headphones on 3 of the audio ports (Front green, rear green, Rear Black (red microphone ones do not work) ), switching from the speakers to digital output and 2nd input, and fettling about in The software Realtek has with this rather than windows own sound options, nothing working. (i've also checked the volume mixer)

I'm pretty sure with this being a near brand new computer it should be more than capable of delivering very very loud audio, I wouldn't mind shelling out on a little sound card which can make it louder, but i would be happier with a solution i can do right here right now without shelling out anything.

I am, for the first time, trying to use the computer for audio recording.   It works, but the maximum sound level is pretty soft.  I've tried maxing out the volume controls both in the Control Panel audio dialog and in the recording software.   Is there a software fix?  If I need a pre-amplifier or a different mike, what should I get?Particulars:-3 year old HP Intel machine, WinXP Home.- Realtek audio card- Audacity recording software- Sony ECM-MS907 mikeThanks,CSmythe

Answer:Low maximum volume level when audio recording

Are you recording directly from a microphone? Turn on the +20 decibel boost. It should be under the advanced sound recording settings.

This is driving me nuts. I have a ION iTTUSB turntable that I've had for around 2 and a half years. On my previous computer, ripping albums was a snap, just plug into a USB port and use Spin It Again. I recently got a new computer and now the USB Audio Codec is giving me a royal headache. The sound comes through (but I can't hear it through my headphones or Spin It Again or Audioacity) but it is far too loud. I've followed the steps in the Audacity wiki to attempt to tame this outrageous sound level but to no avail, there are no options for the volume of the recording level, not a one! Nothing I try reduces the input level and my recordings, while sounding great, are far too loud (the sound volume goes WAY into the red and is painful to the ears). The turntable itself has no volume control and this was never a problem before I upgraded. What do I do? I planned to spend all winter ripping albums.

I'm not sure if this happened with 5.55, but with 5.56, when I hit the volume up or down on my keyboard to turn the sound down for everything, it turns down winamp's volume bar too. Sometimes I can move winamp's volume bar up and down and it won't even be working. What causes this? It's pretty annoying for the music to turn down twice as fast or winamp's volume bar to not even work at all.EDIT: Moved to a more appropriate forum

I bought a new Philips SHP 2000. Decent headphone but no option to control the volume. Anyway, while watching movies I can use VLC or MPCStar to increase the volume beyond 100%. But for mp3, I usually go for WMP and the sound, obviously, is too low. Same way, while gaming the sound is too low even if I put it at 100% in game settings. The speaker icon in taskbar shows 100%.

I'm using Windows Vista, though I had the same problem when I was using XP. I've put my volume settings at max and the volume isn't as high as I'd like it to be. I've dug into the control panel and there doesn't seem to be anything I can do past what's already done -- sound settings are at max and its still not loud enough when I want to watch a movie! I mean, I can hear everything just fine, don't get me wrong. I'd just like it a bit louder.

The blame might lie in the headphones I'm using, though they are expensive ones. I'm wondering if there is some way to raise the volume further. Anything I might be missing? Also, are there 'unofficial' ways to increase the volume?

I have some video files of various formats that are just too quiet. I know that if they're encoded for 5.1 (or greater) surround sound, then the center channel is all I'm hearing on a 2.0 system (like my PC speakers for example) and is therefore very quiet. These types of files would have to be completely re-encoded to basic stereo. That's OK, I can accept and deal with that. But I also have some video files that were encoded with regular stereo that are too quiet. Is there an easy way to increase the audio on these files without having to completely re-encode them? In the past, I've converted them to DVDs and then used the converting program to raise the audio levels. It's easy to do it this way, but it's time consuming, and increases the file size by about 400-500% (or more!). So, how do I increase the audio levels and keep the type and size of the file the same? Without having to convert the file to a different format?

Wavesound or Audacity may do this, I'm not 100% sure.

Most computers output a signal that is amplified by the external speaker system. Is this a desktop? If so, you need to get a different speaker system to change the sound in any way.

There are many different places to adjust the sound. Are all of these turned up?

1. On the speakers, or if you have a laptop there might be a sound adjustment nob somewhere.
2. On the program you are using to play music/video.
3. Next to the clock on the bottom right of the screen there is usually a sound icon you can click.
4. In the Control Panel under the Sound section. Start -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Adjust System Volume.

hei guys
i want to increase my disk C: from 50 GB to 55 GB
disk C only have free space 1,5 GB, so if work it should be 6,5 GB free space
so i shrink my disk D: with the help of easeus partition

so the process will be shrink -> extend -> restart
my disk C increase and its become 55 GB
but the problem is free space still 1,5 GB that should be 6,5 GB.

is there i can do to get back my 5 GB free space

Answer:Why Free space not increasing after Extend Volume

The free space could have easily been sucked up by system restore, the page file, or the hiberfile without you even knowing it.

Did you reboot after you extended C ?

Check system retsore, make sure it`s only using a small percentage of the hard drive to save restore points. I turn it completely off and just make frequent disk images.

If you don`t use hibernation, that can be turned off as well.

Sounds like your hard drive is too full. You may need to delete stuff to free up space on your hard drive then it should allow you to shrink it more.

Hello fibola & Welcome to 7Forums!

What headphones to you have?
If it's Logitech etc. there might be some type of driver or an utility. Look for their website, or either way, you might have a DVD with driver.
See if Windows have been putting up the right input for your microphone. Maybe the default input is broken, who knows!
Also make sure the software you're communicating with is functional.

Good luck

Currently I have tried out 2 mics (albeit, low end ones) which when used on my pc to record have EXTREMELY low volume. I would try a third, higher quality mic, but if it isn't the mics that are the problem, I'm wasting £30 :/

I use Realtek Hd Audio which has it's own manager, and it is not the one with the hidden mic output option.
The only way for me to actually record my own voice at a barely listenable level is to go for the +20db option, although that results in slightly increased volume, but more static noise than anything else. I would assume that I shouldn't need to add 20db to my mic volume when recording to be heard at a normal level?

Basically I'm wondering if there is a solution for this without just adding more and more decibels which means more noise in the background.

So the things I HAVE tried are:
-Updating drivers
-Increasing volume slider on mic input
-Increasing +db slider (does help a bit, but not massively, also the white noise in background counteracts this anyway)
-Changing mics
-Using front & back pink mic jacks
-Unticking and ticking all the optional effects in turn (e.g. noise cancellation, dc output balance, immediate mode)

And none of these seem to show anything more than a marginal improvement. I don't understand why my mic doesn't show much of an input (even on the bar next to it in my input devices menu... not unless I blow hard into it or scream into it)

Does anyone have a... Read more

i just purchased an hp pavilion notebook (zv5000) 3.0ghz, 1gb ddr sd ram, win xp home.
i am trying to record guitar into it, which works pretty well, considering i dont have a 'line in', just a mic jack, which i plug directly into from the guitar, or line out from my amp, or my distortion pedal. all seem to work really well...for about the first three seconds of recording. then the volume starts lowering, and if i am running distortion (making the sound louder and more constant) the sound gets really garbled. i have an example of this, but apparantly i cant post anything that remotely resembles a link.

after the volume lowers, i can stop playing for about 3 seconds, and when i start again, the volume starts up where it should be, and then falls and gets garbled again.

this happens also if i record using an actual microphone, too.

i am recording into cool edit pro 2, but thats not the problem as it does the same thing when i record into windows sound recorder.

(this is my first post, so please let me know if this is in the wrong forum)

any ideas?

I've spent over three days on this problem and I'm pulling my hair out. My computer came preloaded with Realtek HD Audio Manager, which I suspect is the culprit based on everything I've researched about this issue.

Things I've tried:

The mic is not muted and the volume levels are maximizedI can "boost" the mic until it can be picked up better but this degrades the quality significantlyI've tried multiple (new) headsets and the problem doesn't changeThe microphone is set as the default recording deviceI've disabled every other audio device that I don't use; only my microphone, headset speakers, and main speakers are enabledThe microphone input is in the correct jack on the back panel (I've heard there are problems with the front panel)I installed the most recent drivers from Realtek and through MSI's Live Updater (current Realtek audio driver version:'ve done recordings on multiple programs and the problem doesn't changeI've tweaked every option I have access to on the Realtek Audio Manager (noise cancellation, separating each input jack independently, and echo cancellation)I've tried uninstalling Realtek and using standard drivers, and the problem doesn't change

If there's anything I haven't done yet, please let me know.

Answer:Microphone recording at low volume

Its not the drivers. I and many others use the same drivers. There are no front panel problems, unless there is a hardware/wiring problem. The front panel headphone and mic jacks are used by most users.

What do you show in the Device Manager, Sound Section? You should have the RealTek and possibly an NVIDIA HD Audio listed (for HDMI Audio) and nothing else.

But, whatever you get using the rear Pink microphone jack is what you will most likely get with the front.

One suspect is the +5VDC that is on the "ring" connection of the plug/jack. Computer microphones require the +5VDC to operate. If the voltage is low that could be one reason its not working. However, if it is low, that is a motherboard problem.

If you have done what you say and with multiple "known good" headset/mic's, then its a hardware problem. But, its not the RealTek software/drivers.

Along with checking to see if you have the +5VDC, you can disconnect (unplug) the front panel headphone connector from the motherboard, to see if that is causing the problem. However, if it is you are still back to a hardware problem and you need to contact the PC vendor for warranty repair/replacement.

I'm a musician and former guitar amp tech, and have a recording studio, although I use different equipment for the recordings and not the PC's audio.

I've been trying to do some game playthroughs with active commentary and decided to go with the newest Fraps which can record video and audio as well as microphone input. Problem is, whenever I record, my voice is always barely audible in the recorded video. All my microphone volume settings are on high, I've set the game volume as low as I could, and I've looked everywhere for a solution, but every answer is always "raise your microphone volume". And I've come to the conclusion that Fraps is the cause of the problem because when I do a mic test the volume is fine, and online others can hear me clearly.

Is there a solution to this besides having to use a separate recording program and needing to sync it with the video?

Hey guys, I've been having a problem with the recording volume on my headset with a microphone attached to it.

For some reason the default recording volume is extremely low. I go into Control Panel > Sounds & Audio Devices > Voice > Voice Recording > Volume and turn the recording volume up and my microphone works as it should.

The problems occurs randomly. I will say something and not receive a response from whomever I am talking to, and later check in the same area where I previously raised my recording volume and for some reason it has gone back down to the extreme low that it was at prior to me adjusting it.

Is there any way to change the default volume on this device?

Hey there,
I've tried all the normal things - online troubleshooting through Dell and Windows (running 64 bit Win 7 Home Premium), plus updating drivers, uninstall/reinstall device, checking through media software settings (VLC, iTunes) - and cannot seem to figure out why my LEFT speaker is playing at what sounds like 10-20%, versus the RIGHT one playing at 100%. No major update or change predated this issue. Simple Windows Update stuff, but I purposely don't let Windows touch my "manufacter" drivers etc.
Anyone with a clue as to what else I can try?

Answer:One speaker is SUPER soft, other working at normal volume?! Dell Pavilion dv6

Hi guys, basically I have purchased a behringer c-1u, of course before I did some research and there were issues with the volume. Now that I have it, I have the same issue that many people with the mic also have, and that is with the volume it records at. In the windows sound mixer the recording level is set to high, however I still have to be really close to the mic to get a decent volume back.

The light on the mic is also green, and according to several sources is meant to be blue to indicate phantom power. I have checked my motherboard website and the ports are USB 2.0 so phantom power should be working, otherwise the mic wouldn't work right?

So yeah I have seen vids on youtube where people have the mic 5-6 inches away and record perfectly without any problems..but for some reason I have to record like 1 inch away and the response will still be low..

Also I am using cool edit pro 2.0, if that is any help..and after recording, I can turn the volume of the clip up without the quality messing up, however being a condenser mic I shouldn't be having to increase volume and recording from an inch away..

So yeah I'm curious to find out whether phantom power is the problem and how I can sort it, and if it isn't then how I can adjust the volumes..

Thanks before hand

I have a Creative AudioPCI card in a Windows XP machine that seems to be acting up. Volume levels will be fine for recording, but when I stop recording and then listen to what was recorded, if I start recording again the input volume has increased and the new recording sounds loud and distorted. The actual position of the slider on Windows Volume Control does not move, and if I move it just slightly up or down and then back to the original level, the input volume gets restored to its original, non-distorted level -- until, of course I play something again and the cycle continues. Any thoughts?

Answer:Recording volume increases mysteriously

I had a similar problem a while back, to the best of my memory I needed to reinstall the sound drivers and volume software (if present). Or better still , maybe get updated drivers and sotware.
On that thought, if you do have audio software for your card you may find an option in there to auto level sounds. But a reinstall would be my starting place.

I'm sorry this is a little vague, I just saw you had no replies and thought I'd mention what I did.
It was quite a while ago.

I have XP Pro SP3 installed. I am trying to set recording options so my video screen capture program can also record volume. (no problem in recording video). When I click on the speaker icon in the systray it opens up four volume control options. But when I click on properties both recording and other are grayed out. I have updated all my drivers but still no luck in getting to the recording options.

Any ideas to get the recording options accessable would be greatly appreciated.

Hi folks, I have been happily (and successfully) recording vinyl disks for months on my old pc but now I have a new R500 but am unable to control the line-in volume. It is the same whether I use the Line-in (ie microphone) port or rip a cd - the recorded sound is massively blown out and distorted. I have gone into the usual audio controls but nothing seems to be able to control it. My system has a Conexant HD sound card, and using Sound Forge Audio Studio 9.0. Any clues would be welcome.Greg

Answer:Line-in recording volume - massive distortion

the thinkpad mic-in port is not suitable for music recording, you would need an external usb soundcard or expresscard sound card from Creative etc.

Firstly, I know this sounds like a hardware issue considering it's with a USB microphone, but I'm completely convinced this is software related.

I've been using an AT2020 USB microphone for several years now on Windows Vista and on Windows 7. After upgrading to Windows 8, the recording volume on it is extremely low. The hardware and software configurations are exactly the same on both. The only difference is the operating system. I've tested it several times just to be sure. I even have the same problem on another computer using the same type of mic. On Windows 7 I set the volume to ~30 and the recordings come out loud and clear. I do the same on Windows 8 and it's nearly inaudible. If I turn the volume up all the way, I can hear it a bit better but then it's distorted due to having the volume cranked up so much. The mic picks up sound just fine, so it's obviously not meant to work like that.

I'm almost completely certain this problem relates to something that has changed within Windows 8 itself and the way it handles USB audio. Something about it is not playing well with this microphone in particular (and probably other similar mics).

There are no actual drivers provided by the manufacturer, I've always just plugged it in and it has worked right away. So, updating these is obviously not possible.

What I have tried is switching out the stock Windows 8 USB audio drivers with the Windows 7 ones, but it didn't make a ... Read more

I have a Sound Blaster Z, running Win 7 64bit, using the Dolby Digital Live feature which is great, but it seem the system volume is now dictated by the level of the recording device "what u hear". So now neither the useful volume dial on my keyboard or the volume icon in the taskbar have any effect. To change volume I must enter recording devices and do it there.
Is there anyway to reassign things to sort this out?

Answer:Volume icon control a recording device?

I'll move this up to the top for you and see if any one else has an answer but I think that is how the card works and there is nothing that you can change.

Thank you in advance,

I am trying to transfer my band's backing tracks from a Sony MiniDisc Player to my new IdeaPad y550 (Windows 7) using 1/8" stereo jacks from the MiniDisc Player to the stereo mic in on the laptop. My record levels are fine (optimum) but playback of the file results in considerably lower volume. The VU meters during playback are at the levels I recorded but actual audio volume is much lower.

Same problem regardless of the software I am using (Sound Recorder, CakeWalk, WavePro, etc.) so I am hoping it is some global setting I can't find...

-- Brad

Answer:Low Playback Volume After Recording at Optimum Levels

It may just be the recording level and you need to increase the playback level in whatever program you are using to playback. I do a lot of audio work (I have a recording studio using Cakewalk Sonar 8.5) and what you are seeing happens at times.

Make sure your record levels are "optimal" for your system. If you use Audacity, I think it has an option to "normalize" the levels after you record and before you save it. Normalizing will set the volume levels and should eliminate the low playback problems.

I've recently purchase a turntable/software that purports to record LPs (records) into my computer via the USB port. My first attempt resulted in a volume level that is way too low. I need to increase the input volume but can't find the mechanism for doing so.

The install instructions say to select my SoundMax card for playback; to select the USB Audio CODEC device/driver for input. The SoundMax card has volume levels but no line input control; the USB Audio CODEC device has no controls whatsover.

My gut says that the USB Audio CODEC device (which is controlling input) is where I should be able to increase volume but I can't.

Suggestions? Thanks.

Soo, finally recorded something with Fraps. I was quite positively suprised by the FPS stability while recording, I think I got one or two drops below the defined 30 FPS during the record (used my usual, near to max settings at 1600x1200 and recorded half-size). The MOV plays fine, looks good... But I can barely hear the loudest sounds in the video if I turn my volume to MAX. And boy, my ears rang for 3 hours when I got an IM message sound stuck up them. Since then I've tried 3 different games and using both the "Detect best sound input" and "Use Windows input" options in the sound recording options.
Any ideas how to get the sound working?

I have Xonar D1 with Windows 7 x64 using Sound Forge 9.0e to capture audio from Line Level inputs (LPs played on stereo system).

The recording level maxes at -12Db to -15Db. This of course artificially restricts the dynamic range. All settings are maxed in the Xonar D1 control panel as well as the Windows Sound control panel.

All drivers are current.

This problem has beem reported by others on the internet with Xonar cards.

I have searched and tried many things suggested. None have worked.

Any ideas?

Answer:Line Level Input Recording Volume LOW / QUIET

-12 to -15 should be more than adequate for recording. I generally record in that range in my recording studio (using Sonar X1). This allows headroom for whatever I want to do. Sonar has the ability to raise the levels as I need them for final mix and exporting.

Record in 24 bits if you can (and then export/save the final file as 16 bit).

This on is quite perplexing to me. This is stemming from a volume problem that I had posted before. I have more detail and have narrowed down the problem but not the cause of such. When ever I click the volume control in winamp, not adjust necessarily, just click, my wave setting in my volume control (pannel that comes up by double clicking the speaker in the tray) drops. Of course this affects my overall volume. It is sparatic and does not drop the same amount two times in a row but will drop everytime I click volume in winamp. I am running winXP pro and have not installed so much as an update since the last time this was happening. The only thing I did change is I set up voice recognition in Office XP but I was having this problem before that. I have uninstalled and cleaned out all winamp files and reinstalled. Any suggestions? Winamp is the only player of any kind that this currently happens with.

Also, whenever I am using winamp to play an mp3 or streaming audio and I open another program, any program, or even just minimize/maximize a window, the audio starts cracking. This also has never happend before except of course when there is a heavy load on the system. As I said I am running XP pro, and FYI a Duron 900 cpu and 448MB RAM. As I am having these problems I am using 5% to 10% of my cpu and have 21000k physical memory availible according to task mgr.

Answer:When clicking volume in WinAmp my wave setting in Volume Ctrl drops.

I did some research at the Winamp message board and came up with this.

Hi all,

I have Toshiba Portege M800, and I have a problem with the volume wheel.
If I try to increase or decrease the volume by this volume wheel, it will change, but the volume not change linear.

For example, when I increase volume from 0 to something, volume is changed, during rolling, e.g. from 0-1-2-3-4-5-3-8-6 (thats just an example).

Why doesn't it change linear, e.g. 0-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 ?
Is it caused by software or it is hardware problem?

Could I claim the goods?

Answer:Portege M800 - volume wheel issue - volume level jumps

I have had a similar issue with the volume level on my Satellite notebook.
I tired everything; updated the BIOS, sound driver? I have also reinstalled my OS using the Roecvery disk but I didn?t notice any improvements.

Finally my ASP technician checked the volume wheel and cleaned the contacts and removed some dust.
This was the key?
The dirt affected the volume wheel functionality?

In my cases this helped but this does not mean that this will help you as well.
I think you should also update the BIOS and should check if you could update the sound driver.
If this will not help then it would be recommended to contact the ASP technician for opinion?

but this also turns down the volume for notifications and then I don;t hear them.
Is there any way to control these volumes separately ?

Most games I've seen have an option to turn off music/effects within the game itself. Meaning you could hush them, but keep your notifications at whatever volume.

Windows XP Home
RealPlayer 10.5

Ok, I used to have RealPlayer and all it's junk till I wised up
and removed it from my system over a year ago.

However, I recently installed the basic RealPlayer (that is...only allowing
the features that I needed for video/audio) in order to watch NASA TV
e.g. DEEP IMPACT and today's DISCOVERY launch.

My question is regarding why, when I mute or adjust the volume on
the RealPlayer, that it also does the same to the computer's Volume
Control (Speaker Icon in System Tray...Wave setting).

I had been viewing on the RealPlayer, muted the sound and then later
was wondering why I was not able to hear any of my videos, music, etc.
The thought occurred to me to check the Speaker Icon and, sure enough,
there was a check at Wave>>Mute.

Is there a setting I can check/uncheck that will allow RealPlayer and
Computer volume to be independent of one another?

Thank you,

So I installed some new Windows updates today (whatever was available via Windows Update). I restarted my computer to enable the updates. When it came back on, my task bar was white for some reason. I solved that problem using the first solution I found here: [SOLVED] Taskbar is white

Well I didn't change my volume before doing that, so I don't know if it worked before I followed that solution. I do know that after following that solution, my volume meter no longer shows up when I change the volume via the keys for it on my keyboard. This is pretty annoying because it was convenient to always see my audio level when I adjusted the volume.

I am on a HP Pavilion dv7-6c95dx with beats audio, running Windows 7 64-bit. When I changed my volume, the beats audio logo with a volume meter under it would pop up, but it no longer shows up. I haven't noticed any change in the quality of my sound, and I can still actually adjust the volume level. The problem is the volume meter no longer displays to show me the volume level.

If anyone has any clue as to why this happened, that would be great!

Answer:Volume meter no longer displays when I adjust volume level

Try rolling back any keyboard driver updates, or go to the keyboard manufacturers website and download most up to date driver(s) from there.

My Windows 7 was installed in Drive C: in Primary partition.

I only have another drive D:, which is also a Primary partition and 200GB in size.

I need to create another drive. So, I use 'Shrink Volume' on Drive D: and free 30GB.

Then 30GB become free space and when I right click on that, I choose to 'Simple Volume' and then format it as NTFS and assign the drive letter E:. All of a sudden after I did that, all the partitions(C: and D now no longer say "Primary Partition". The blue color on top of the partitions also changed to a yellow/brownish color. My guess is that they have been converted to a Simple Volume too.

Well, then I just restart my PC and astonished that my windows 7 can't load. Only a blank screen come ahead to me. No error message given.

I use my Windows 7 DVD and in repair windows section, I use command line and by 'diskpart', i found, my all partition (C: and D: and E present their and there file system is: 'NTFS' and Type is "Simple". No drive there marked as a 'System' or 'boot'.

What should I do now, to recover my Windows 7?

Any kind of help will be appreciated. Thanks.

I have a problem with adjusting the volume. When I adjust the volume using the button on the left side of the laptop, I only can choose 3 "loudness levels":

No volume, very silent volume, and maximum volume (to loud).

Is this normal, doesn't anyone have problems with this?
I expect the problem is because of the digital volume adjuster. The adjuster doesn't register the exact position of the volume button. Every time when I get a phone call at work (I listen to internet radio), I turn off the radio using the adjuster on the side of the laptop. When I end the phone call, I always need to open the laptop and adjust the volume in the windows task bar, because when I use the volume adjuster on the left side of the laptop, it just immediately goes to maximum volume.

Here is a question I can't seem to find the answer to in the archives.

How can adjust the volume output from my Windows ME machine (with SoundMax Digital Audio) so that the volume of the background music I like to listen to (via RealOne Player version is quiet, but the other important sounds my PC makes (like email or calendar notifications) are loud enough so I can hear them?

I've seemingly tried all combinations of settings for the volume sliders/adjustments, including:

1) The volume knob on my speakers
2) The RealOne Player volume slider
3) The Windows volume control panel "Volume Control" slider
4) The WIndows volume control panel "PC Beep" slider

Even when the "PC Beep" volume slide is set to maximum, and the "Volume Control" slider is set near minimum in the Windows volume control panel, the PC beep is virtually inaudible when the background music is acceptably quiet (by adjusting the RealOne volume slider and/or the volume control on my speakers).

Am I doing something wrong? Is there some other way that I'm not thinking of to boost the volume of the system sounds my PC makes, while keeping the RealOne music volume low?

I have a truecrypt encrypted volume which is my entire hard drive.  This contains the windows OS and my files(one of many backed up encrypted copies).  I would now like to implement a 2nd truecrypt volume inside this present truecrypt volume.  Truecrypt calls this a hidden volume.  The idea is that at boot-up, you can use one of two passwords.  The one you choose dictates which (the primary or the hidden) volume.  The easy way to do this is to do it when first creating both truecrypt volumes but I did not realize I wanted to create this hidden volume until now.  All of the instructions I have seen require you to dismount the encrypted volume which will host the hidden volume first.  However I can't do that because I need that volume decrypted in order to run the truecrypt software which performs the function.
Any ideas other than decrypting the encrypted volume and starting from scratch?

open 3 web pages that all use sound and i want to be able to have 3 different volume levels for each. I've forgotten where I went to to combine the volume levels. That what i want to know: where to go, in windows,k where i can un-combine the volume levels.
thanks much.

ok so this problem was just about from the beginning. i thought i would be patient and it would go away. at first i noticed that while using msn messenger, its volume control for voice chat controled the main volume for the whole pc. so if it was low things wouldnt sound as high as i wanted. no matter if i adjusted the main volume in the control panel, which was always set to highest, the volume would still be at the mercy of Msn M. so if it was lower than usual i would have to sign into msn m and adjust it. not only does this happen with msn m. it also happens with web video applications used by youtube, livevideo, etc etc! those arent usually the culprit of low sound. its usually just msn m. even now with live messenger i have the issue. im tired of being patient so here i am

windows xp sp2
2gig ram.
anything else? sound card? the sound card came with the mobo. its a Realtek AC'97.
thanks for any help.

For some reason the onscreen display for the volume controls and screen brightness on my W530 stop working after coming back from sleep or resume. I updated Power Management, Hotkey and Interface but the problem still rears its ugly head. If I go into screen resolution and advanced and on screen then uncheck Enable onscreen and recheck it...the controls work again.

try to reinstall the OSD software. Uninstall the current OSD software that you have, and download the latest version from below.

Have an external USB hard drive caddy with a naked Raptor drive sitting in it which has one partition that is the entire capacity of the Raptor drive...this is an 'active' volume.
1. Can someone tell me if I delete the volume under Computer Management>Disk Management>Delete Volume will this return it to being an 'inactive' volume?
2. Also can you tell me after deletion will I need to initialise the drive in the usual way like when one installs a new drive in a PC?
3. Upon reboot will Windows just offer to initialise it within Disk Management?

I want it to just be a simple, basic, single partition drive just for data backup. In past it was my OS drive which is when it was made an active volume. Using W7/64bit professional.

Before I upgraded to Vista, there use to be a green bar at the bottom of the screen, so whenever you increased/decreased the volume, you would know.

This has disappeared.

Anyone know where a copy of this "OnScreen Display' Tool can be found?

Okay so I went to hop on my desktop today, it wasn't waking up when I move mouse etc, which was odd because it was on. So I restarted it and I've had two options for windows 10 for a while now volume 1 and 4 I don't know why, I've always used 1 but now when I click 1 it just goes to black screen, monitor is awake cause my light turns blue when it is, I pressed windows key with something I forgot what button while in black screen and sound was coming through. So I restated again and went on volume 4 and that worked fine out dated stuff since I haven't used it but it was working. I would like to get back on my main volume, or at least know what the issue is.

i did a Nvidia graphic card update a day or two ago as well.
i also tried to go to the troubleshoot screen when you open windows 10 which worked fine, but when I clicked restore to a previous time-black screen- and then I tried removing everything completely clicked that option -black screen-
Thanks for help ahead of time!!

Answer:Windows 10 black screen on volume 1(main) and not Volume 4(old)

UPDATE: so I went into volume 4 and attempted a complete wipe again, once I clicked it screen went black for a while and no sign it was working, so now I put in my windows XP disk and am going to attempt a clean install of that, then just upgrade to windows 10.

I have the Helix i5 and the problem I'm having is that when I plug in my headphones, the volume does not automatically adjust. If my speakers are on full volume, so are my headphones when I plug them in. Please help me fix this. My Microsoft Surface never had such a ridiculous issue like this.

Answer:Headphone and speaker volume problem. Volume is not memorized.

Are you sure this is standard behaviour? This is the first time I hear Windows adjusting the volume depending on what you plug in.

I have an HP f2105 21" monitor running on Windows 7 x64. Recently the Volume Icon keeps appearing on my screen, and automatically increases the volume to 100%. I have not made any significant changes in my operating system. The Icon stands in front of all other screens and cannot be dismissed. It quits when it's ready after a few seconds. It pops up every 3-4 minutes or so. My drivers are up to date. I've tried disconnecting the monitor and reconnecting it. Turning it off and on, etc. So far nothing has helped.

Hello melb1946Does your keyboard have volume buttons? I know in my experiences I have sometimes run into similar scenarios. In my case the problem was accidentally hitting the volume button on my keyboard. How is your sound setup in Windows 7? Is your monitor set as the default sound device? Do other sound devices increase their volumes?Probably one of the best ways to isolate the problem would be to put the monitor on another computer and see if the sound continues to appear and go up.

for some reason, the volume on real player sorta acts like the master volume thing.. hope that makes sense. for instance, i started playing a game and the sound was just reaaaal loud. so i remembered i watched something recently on real player and put the volume on max. so i lowered it and it fixed the problem. and if i listen to music from winamp, i lower the volume on real player, and the volume goes down. how do i fix this??

Hi everyone,I had the hard drive replaced recently in my G580 (Windows7) and everything is perfect except this one thing. I use the Volume: FN/down and FN/up a lot. It's very awkward that I can't see the volume setting any more. I know I can use the volume control in the tray but that is too slow to use in a live muic situation.btw the Fn/brightness also works but doesn't show the settings. Is this a setting that has gone awry that I can easily change?I've seen posts about the FN not working at all but nothing about it owrking but just not being visible. Thanks for any help.
