Windows not detecting input from headset

Question: Windows not detecting input from headset

Windows will happily output sound to my headset but there is no input from the mic. I have a xonar dg as my soundcard.

The headset mic has been tested on a laptop and works
The microphone mute button the the headset cable is set correctly
The jack is correctly in
On plugging in (and fiddling with the jack) the mic I can see noise in CP/Sound window
It has been tested on the front panel, the soundcard jack & motherboard jacks
Drivers have been wiped and reinstalled
System restores had no effect
A reinstallation of windows keeping programs & settings had no effect
The mic is not muted or set too low in Control Panel / Sound
The mic in my webcam works correctly (USB)
Connections inside the case are not loose
Toggling the front mic option in Cp/Sound/Recording/(the mic)/properties/custom has no effect
I also managed to get the mic to work (badly) for a few seconds after windows reinstalled. After I plugged in the headphone jack, the mic went dead and hasn't recovered since.

The mic has worked on this PC before, it seems some setting / software / driver is mucking up.

Preferred Solution: Windows not detecting input from headset

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Windows not detecting input from headset

I noticed the sound card can only handle up to 48KHz/24-bit recording. However the CP sound options would let me set it above this. Lowering it to the acceptable level made no difference.

I recently purchased a VersionTech EACH G2000 and I plugged it into my computer, but Windows does not recognize it in the playback nor recording devices. Help would be appreciated.

Answer:Windows not Detecting Headset

From what I see this has the two 3.5mm plugs and also a USB. I can't find out if the USB is just for the lights or if it is used for anything else in the headset. But, make sure you plug in everything.

As you have a Dell, and are you using the built in sound device? or have you added a separate sound card? If you added a separate sound card, you need to connect the front panel to the new sound card.

If you are using the built in sound device, try connecting the headset and mic to the rear connectors (Green and Pink) and see if it works there.

My new PC with windows 7 won't detect my old Acer v243w monitor. I was hoping to use dual monitors, with this monitor connected via vga into the motherboard and my other monitor connected by DVI into the graphics card. The graphics card I am using is a Radeon HD6870. It has DVI slots and an HDMI slot but no VGA slot.
Even when the Acer is plugged into the motherboard by itself using VGA it does not get detected then either.
How can I solve this problem?
Is it simply a case of getting a lead which will convert my VGA lead from the Acer monitor into a DVI output which I can then plug into the graphics card?
Or perhaps there is a way of enabling VGA support, maybe via the graphics card or something? It seems odd to have a VGA socket in the motherboard if it is not going to work.
I don't know much about these things.
Any help would be appreciated

Answer:Windows 7 not detecting monitor using VGA input

You don't say which motherboard you have but most of them with on-board graphics have this output automatically disconnected in the BIOS when another graphics card is used in the PCIe or AGP slot. You might try going into the BIOS to see if you change the setting to allow both outputs to be used.

With Windows XP I could go to the control panel and use a slider to increase or decrease the sensitivity of the input signal from a USB microphone. In Windows 7 i couldn't find a similar control in the SmartAudio or Sound control panels. I have to move the mic away from my mouth to reduce the input. How do you do it? thanksm

Answer:Windows 7, Plantronics USB headset. How do I reduce the input level? It's distorting.

Right click the speaker icon on the taskbar, look in "Playback devices" and "Recording devices". Which also happens to be the same place this function has always been.

i've been having this issue for a while now, my headset hasn't been detecting. it is connected via the 3.5mm headphone jack. this is a problem i've had with every pair of headphones/headsets i've tried, so it isn't an issue with the model. the only reason i haven't noticed this issue until as of recent is because i've had a USB connected headset. now that i need to use the 3.5mm jack, nothing is detecting. i've tried to fix this issue, and all that has happened is that my headset shows up as "Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio)", and will not register my microphone. any help?
note that these three screenshots are taken whilst the headset is plugged into the 3.5mm headphone jack (the only connector that came with the headset)

Alright so I have a BRAND new Sony Vaio laptop with Windows 7, it's model # is VPCCW21FX. I got it only a week ago.
I play games so I connect with Ventrilo, but with this laptop it is not detecting my headset. It's a standard Logitech headset that connects through those pink and green jacks on the side of my laptop. It only recognizes the laptop's built-in microphone, however. This is what I've tried to get my headset's mic to work:

1. Disabling the built-in microphone. The laptop still did not recognize that I had a separate microphone plugged in through the jack.

2. Updating sound card's driver / rollback to previous, to see if it might work. It did not.

3. I tried to use the Ease of Access -> Install new microphone. The laptop would only still detect the built-in microphone, not the one that was plugged in through the jack.

I know it's not the headset's fault because it was working perfectly fine in another computer just this morning, and I tested it on my brother's computer a few minutes ago. His computer detects my headset. Yes I have the plugs in the correct holes, and no there are no drivers since this isn't a USB headset. The laptop KNOWS that something is plugged into the mic jack because it mutes the laptop's built-in microphone once there's something in it, but no sound is detected.

As you can see from the image, the Realtek microphone is the built-in one. My headset is currently plugged in, but ... Read more

on that screen - do you have 3.5mm Jack - anything you can enable there?

Well I have a Sony Vaio and just plugged a mic in (on vista) and it worked ...... so ignore above - that made no difference on my machine

I used start> programs> accessories> sound recorder
to test with

try that see if it works with that application

Hi, I recently bought a new headset due to one of the ears falling apart...

My old one was USB with a 3.5mm cable and worked perfectly fine. The new one I got has no USB and uses the green and pink cables. I've plugged them in and it seemed as if they were working well but I realised they're not actually picking up the sound from the microphone, they're playing my computers sounds.

I looked through other forums and found people saying that it may be a driver issue, so I updated and got the Realtek HD, which then showed the Stereo Mix in my devices. Basically what's happening is that Stereo Mix and Microphone are both playing volume at the same level and acting as if they're the same. I've tried disabling Stereo and keeping Mic but it still plays the computers sounds. I've tried vice-versa too. The "Speakers" device is also playing at the same level of volume.

And then obviously since it's doing that, it's playing my computer sounds through Skype.

Basically what I want to achieve is have the headset playing sound but also be able to speak through skype without it playing the sounds I have on.

Also, there's a little switch on the cable to act as a "Mic Mute" switch, if the Mic is ON then the sound is fine, if I switch it to OFF the sound is very echo'd and distant.

Answer:New Headset, not detecting microphone.

First, stereo mix should be set as the default recording device. Then any input device that is used will be heard.

As Windows only allows one default audio playback device, separating sounds or what's heard may not be possible or is an option of the application program. I'm not familiar with Skype so I don't know what the options are or do.

Hi everyone,

I hope this is the right subforum, wasn't sure if this belongs here or to Soundcard/Hardware. If yes, please move. :)

Since a few weeks I have had problems with my microphones and the front panel (with sound & usb) of my PC fried itself. To remedy that I bought a USB soundcard adapter (see here). I have connected this to my PC and tried both a normal headset and a iPhone headphones (both of which work on a different PC/laptop). When trying them on this PC, while normal sound works, there's no voice input.

Here's some more info:

- I use Windows 7
- I disconnected all other audio hardware in device manager, the only thing left in "Recording Devices" is the USB-connected device
- In the "recording tab" the bars stay gray and don't change/turn green when I speak into the microphone
- I have checked the settings of the microphone, volume is at 100 and not muted

At this point I am not sure what else I can do and haven't found anything useful from Google. Would really appreciate if anyone can advice.

Hi, i own a BenQ T903 19" LCD monitor and lately its been acting up. Basically a blue screen continuosly appears and disappears on the monitor saying:

"input select" then gives me two options D-sub and DVI

but i dont have to press anything and it will just keep flickering on my monitor, its absolutely annoying. The only fix i can think of was to check my connection, and its fine. Any ideas?

Answer:Monitor has issues with detecting input?

That sounds like it's searching for a signal. You need to hook the monitor to another computer first, to rule out problems with the video in your desktop.

I currently have a Sennheiser PC 360 that I used on a previous build, which I paired with a ASUS Xonar D1 sound card on Windows 7. I recently put together a new build using Windows 8.1 and now the mic no longer works. I receive audio output through the headset speakers just fine, but the mic acts as if it's muted.

I assumed it would be the sound card, so I tried using the motherboard jacks. Again, the headset speakers work just fine but no input is received through the mic. Windows does acknowledge when the mic is plugged/unplugged, if that helps at all.

I tried uninstalling the drivers and letting Windows install the drivers, as well as Windows Troubleshooting (Mic not working on computer Windows 8.1?) to no avail. As far as I know, the drivers are also up to date.

Recording Devices, all devices shows (including disabled). Mic is currently plugged into the Xonar D1 sounds card ports. Notice that the input bars do not recognize any transmission (mic is not muted).
In case it was a sound card issue, I used the motherboard integrated sound, using the latest Realtek drivers. Windows recognizes when the mic is plugged in and when it isn't, but like with the sound card, no transmission is recognized either way.
Realtek Drivers:
I tried messing with a few options, and I noticed the mic "transmitted" when I enabled the 'Monitoring' option. The mic now appears to transmit, but it's just high pitched feedback-like sound. Nothing I say through the mic is actually tr... Read more

Answer:Headset microphone recognized but not receiving input

It sounds like a potential problem with the headset and the 5VDC that is required by the microphone to work.

Do you have access to another PC, even a friend's, that you can try the mic on, to make sure its still working.

A side note, although I don't think it will help your current mic problem. The Stereo Mix is normally set at the Default Recording device. With Stereo Mix set any input device that is connected and used will be heard (used by programs). You also need Stereo Mix if you ever want to record audio (music) from the Internet.

hi, i just recently ran into this problem. I am running windows XP sp3, and for some reason my realtek audio jack is not recognizing my plugged in headset. it had been working fine a month prior. Sometimes the headphones on my headset work, sometimes when they do, the sound only comes out of one ear. the same story for the mic part, only it rarely works and whenever i am in a voice chat, the person on the other line can hear my audio, but not my voice.
Please help as this is an issue that i have been looking to resolve for a almost a week.
Edit- I was ment to say that i BOUGHT the headset a month prior, and before that i used a standard mic which worked fine.

I'm attempting to record some video game footage for fun using Fraps but I have a serious problem with my headset.  I've disabled every audio input device except for my headset, which is a Logitech set (I don't know which.  I doesn't have a model number on it, but it's one of the fancier ones with the mute switch on the mic). My problem is that when I record the game, my voice is just completely out blasting the game and I can't get the game volume high enought to compete with it.  The Fraps sound is maxed.
I discovered the problem to be the fact that lowering the volume slider on the mic doesn't affect the volume input of the mic for some reason.  Even when I set the volume slider of the mic to 0, the mic still stays at the same volume.  When I test it on the device screen, it will indeed show no voice coming through.  None of the bars will light up on the bar scale, but when I go back into the game and start playing again, it will record my voice blasting over the game audio as if I hadn't even touched that volume slider.
All other recording devices on the computer are disabled so it's not a case of another device piggybacking off of this one.  Is there some other setting that I'm missing that makes the microphone ignore the volume slider?  I've been an electronic musician for years using my computer for audio recording and I've never seen an issue like this.  My only thought is that there's something in... Hello, I am using a Lenovo Edge 2-1580. I want to use a Logitech G230 headset with it; since it has two plugs (one for microphone and the other for audio output), I am using a Headset Buddy adapter with it. The adapter is plugged into the combo headset jack on the left side of my laptop. The sound coming from the headphones is fine. However, the microphone input is dreadfully quiet. I tested it by fiddling with the mic with my fingers, which should produce a loud, static-y sound, but I only get a faint rustle. In the Control Panel, I tried going to Properties on the Microphone Array to turn up the volume and Microphone Boost to the maximum setting (+10.0 dB. I've seen people get it higher in videos, but I can't seem to do that) and turning all Enhancements. Even still, I have barely any audio input from the microphone. Where is the problem? (in software, the headset, the adapter, the laptop, in the Control Panel, etc.)How do I make the microphone input louder if everything is already set to the maximum setting?Do I need any new hardware/accessories?Should the Control Panel state that the audio input device is a Microphone Array? If I'm using a headset, should it say something else?Would a different headset, say Logitech G430, work better? Thank you!

I am having trouble with my windows installation after attempting to install windows 10 a second time on the same machine, but different partition.
I have used a bootable USB device with the windows 10 installation (created with the same machine and the same settings for OS).

I can't figure out how to fix this. I noticed that, when I'm watching a video, my headset's mic will relay the audio coming into my headset. Disabling Stereo Mix doesn't fix it. The physical controller that's on my headset cable doesn't stop it from happening, as even if I turn the volume knob all the way down and flick the mute switch, it's still picking up the audio. Muting my headset from within the computer stops the mic from hearing it, as does switching to my speakers that are plugged into the front jack. My headset is a 3.5mm jack type plugged into the back of the computer, directly into the motherboard.

I am knew on the board. Greetings

I installed a NEW Logitech USB Headset 350 onto my Winows XP Service Pack 2 generic 'puter.

I now have no speaker sound and no option shows except the headset and "Modem #1 line ".

It sorta looks like I have no speaker drivers .

Unplugging the headset does not help.

Anybody know how to fix this problem so I am not forced to wear a headset for audio ALL OF THE TIME ?

Answer:Installed new USB Headset NOW no speaker audio even if I unplug the headset

Yeah, my USB headset was a little weird at first as well.

Try going into your volume control (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Entertainment > Volume Control):
1. Click Options
2. Properties
3. Change the mixer device from the USB headset to your speakers.

Should work.

Also should note you can change the output settings in most audio software (for example: Windows Media Player, Winamp, etc.) so if you can't hear anything from your speakers when using those programs, try fiddling with those settings as well. I know for Winamp it's Options > Preferences > Plug-ins > Output > double-click the plug-in you use (mine is out_ds.dll) and again change it to your speakers using the drop down menu.

the topic pretty much says it. I bought myself a new headset(C-media headphone set or something) which uses a USB-port instead of an original sound-port-thing. The problem is, whenever I plug the headset in the USB-port pretty much nothing happens and I can't get the sound in the headset, it just stays in the speakers...

It used to be no problem when I used a headset with the sound-port on the motherboard to just change it. Anyone have any suggestions on what I might do? :(

edit: forgot to say that it works just fine after rebooting the computer.

Thank you

Hi Foonksh,

Try going into the Control Panel and go into Sounds and Audio Devices. From there you can pick the default device for recording and for playback. In the playback section, set the headset as the default device instead of your speakers.

With my old headset i used to have a blast recording sounds/music coming out of my comptuer directly using wave out. Often for MSN voice clips and such.

I haven't changed anything, but now that i have this new headset, the only recording i seem to be able to do is voice recording in sound recorder, i can't seem to record wave out mix on sound recorder, and can't record anything whatsoever in msn voice clips.

I can hear voice clips sent to me though, strange thing is, when someone invited me to an audio conversation earlier, i got the annoying ringing noise alright , but i couldn't hear anything.

I checked my volume controls nothing is muted.
Any help would be fantastic! Thanks in advance

The short version of the question is how do I move the #@#[email protected]%$#^%$ (display gibberish somehow, boxed in red below) input method above Microsoft Pinyin, while keeping English as my default Display language and Input language.
Longer version here:
I use English and Chinese input, but the default MS Chinese input is "inconvenient", so I installed another input software for Chinese input (the gibberish above, or lets call it method ABCD).
The order I want is English as my default Input method and display, while ABCD as my default Chinese input (when I hit Alt + Shift, should switch from English to ABCD). However, since I can't get ABCD above MS-PinYing, when I Alt+Shift it auto switch to MS-Pinyin, not ABCD (Manually switch from MS to ABCD gets annoying).
In WinXp/Win7 I only need to manually switch to ABCD once, and the system remembers it, but Win8 for some reason automotcally load the language list on every start up =/
Also in WinXp/Win7, I can delete MS-PinYin while keeping ABCD (so I only have English and ABCD), but Win8 doesn't allow me to do that as I must have MS-input or the second line (highlight in green) in language perference doesn't even appear.
There are some additional points/details.
1 - I must set Chinese as "Language for non-... Read more

I can't help you with your specific problem but you may want to look here. Hope it helps.
Under Chinese Input Methods it says to use the Windows key and space bar to easily switch between language inputs.

Hi there @145755, I hope you find your Support Forum experience a positive one!  It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel.  I understand that you have changed a setting on your computer and now the display is not working.  I am happy to give you a hand with this. Please post the full product number for your computer. See the following, if you need help with that information.  HP Desktop PCs - How Do I Find My Model Number, Serial Number or Product Number? I would suggest you try to start your computer in Safe mode to load basic screen settings. See this document: HP PCs - Windows Safe Mode (Windows 10, 8). As you are unable to see the display properly at this time you will need to follow the process described for "Entering Safe Mode without access to Startup Settings".  If you are able to get in, then make the needed adjustments to your display settings, then restart your system normally to see if the display will come up properly. If not try a different screen resolution. Please let me know whether that works for you, and if it does resolve your issue, please mark this post as a solution. Kudos would also be appreciated.

I have a Dell D610 laptop w/ XP Pro SP2... or had.

I have a corrupted registry entry hosing the keyboard input. The mouse works fine up until the point when I kit the first key on the keyboard when under the Graphical Windows interface. After I hit any key, the mouse freezes as well. This happens if I use the laptop keyboard or an external keyboard connected to a PS2 jack.

I have performed hours of troubleshooting and it is not the keyboard hardware. Keyboard input works during all non-graphical UI (BIOS, Recovery Console, etc.). I even removed the drive and plugged it in to another computer. I made a copy of the WINNT\system32\config files (sam, default, security, system, software) and replaced them w/ a copy of these files from WINNT\repair. The computer boots to Graphical Windows and I am able to type in this session just fine.

How can I "erase" the keyboard driver corruption in the registry (or perhaps a corrupted driver file or set of files)? The problem is that I can't boot the system to a point where I can edit the "corrupted" keyboard entries. I can't use the Recovery Console because I don't have the Administrator password. So I tried to install SP3 from a bootable CD. The minute it asks me to type in the Product Key (a graphical dialog box), input is frozen a the first keystroke (even a key like Caps Lock). Can I actually edit the registry that resides on the boot drive while it is connected to another computer? Any other suggest... Read more

Toshiba Satellite Pro C660

Since we bought this laptop in November '10 it has had an intermittent problem with typing. Occasionnally the keyboard will either miss out characters typed or double type them. It can happily do this all day and then stop and go back to normal.
We have restored this back to factory settings and it still does it intermittently. Our IT man insists this is a software problem but has been unable to find out what it is.

Bizaarly we bought two of these laptops at the same time and they both have the same fault.

Any help?

I have an A530 that will not connect when using the PC input, but the HDMI out port works fine.  So I attempted to connect to an external monitor and it worked.  So I know the actual HDD is working and that the computer is running properly. I then took an HDMI cable and ran it from the HDMI out port to the HDMI in port and the screen is now receiving the signal from the PC. So now I know both the PC and the A530 screen are working. The PC is out of warranty. Any idea why this is happening?  I currently have an HDMI cable connecting the in/out ports and the computer works, but I'd like to go back to it just using the pc and have an available HDMI port.

Hey all, I've been having this issue for a while in OneNote and Drawboard (because it happens in these 2 applications I believe it's a platform=laptop issue and not applications):1. I put annotations on top of PDF printouts in OneNote and in Drawboard PDF using my pen in tablet-like keyboard position2. Right after that touch input stops working for a while, as if it was not touch-enabled device. After 5-15 secs it comes back to life3. This issue does not reproduce when keyboard is in laptop position Has anyone had a similar issue on the same laptop/other Lenovo laptops? My system is a BestBuy-specific sister version of Yoga 14". Thanks,Danil

Answer:Laptop with HDMI Input, but no program to watch the Input

you can try any of the tuner software and see if that works. things like Windows Media Center, XBMC, MediaPortal, GBPVR.

video editing software like Adobe Premiere. the best, easiest, and cheapest bets would be to try the tuner software first.

Windows automatically updated last night before shutting down. When I turned on the computer this morning, the HP w2207h monitor was not functioning properly. Each time I rebooted, I received the message "HDMI Input: No Input Signal" before the monitor went to sleep.

I do not believe it is a problem with the sleep and display settings as I have dual monitors and the EN9910 is functioning properly; both are set to NEVER anyway. Further, I have plugged our SONY television into the HDMI port and it works just fine.

I have also plugged the monitor into another computer, using the same cable, and both worked just fine. The hp monitor also functions in the utility mode. Problem seems to exist only when Starting Windows.

This has happened once before with a Windows Update, but I don't recall the solution.

Please help.

Answer:HDMI Input: No Input Signal -- Monitor Going to Sleep

Hello and welcome aspen can you just make sure the driver for that monitor is ok.

But mate I also think you may have answered it yourself in another way. Can you remember when this started happening? If so system restore back to before that date.

Then it is just a matter of downloading any updates if this is what is - one or two at a time until you find which one is the culprit. Make a not of that one and each time it comes up untick it to download / install.

I've searched around a lot about this topic, but after hours and days of searching, I've found nothing to fix my problem. I have a headset that has speakers and a microphone (3.5mm jacks) that work fine, except when I'm trying to talk to someone using the microphone, they can hear the sounds coming from my headset (youtube videos, game sounds etc). I've tried installing the Realtek HD Audio Codec but it disappears after it finishes installing and after I restart (although it still remains in the Programs and Features uninstall page), the program files for it is empty with the exception of RtlUpd64.exe which doesn't do anything when executed and a few other files.
In device manager, the things I have under sound, video and game controllers are Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus and the Intel Display Audio. I've updated everything to the latest. Also, I recently system restored my computer and before I did I had IDT High Definition Audio Drivers, but after updating they were changed.
I think the problem is that stereo mix is enabled somewhere or something to do with my drivers as when I tried plugging my headset into my brother's computer, it worked fine (he has the Gigabyte Realtek Audio Manager thing and was able to adjust the stereo mix settings).
If there's a program or workaround to this, or how to disable the stereo mix like through registry or something, please let me know.

Answer:Headset mic recording sounds through headset?

You are correct, that is the usual cause of this problem. And aside from being set in the drivers, it can sometimes be set in the application (used for the communication).

That model does appear to use the IDT High-Definition (HD) Audio chipset. The problem is likely in the fact that you upgraded to Win10 and I don't see that HP supports nor supplies drivers for Win10 (I only see drivers for 7 and 8). Which means you are using generic drives supplied by Windows. The generic Windows drivers often work well enough to get hardware functional, but quite often don't support all hardware or all features of all hardware.

I have a almost broken headset, but the microphone still works fine, The microphone is connected on the wire right before the headset, Its not actually touching the headset itself.

Would this microphone still work if the headset was cut off?

Sorry but I can't manage to take a photo but

Answer:Will a Headset microphone still work if I cut it off the Headset?

Is the microphone actually supported by the headset, by that I mean when the set is on your head is the microphone carried close to your mouth so you have both hands free. If this is the case then cutting off the headset will mean the microphone will not have any way of being held near your mouth.
If you cut it off you will have to be very careful you don't cut the wires for the microphone & it's possible that there is a common return wire for the earpieces & the microphone in the form of a shielded cable, so it would be very difficult, but if you have skills in this area it could be done.

I've tried various testing procedures and it doesn't detect anything.

What do I do?

Answer:Tecra M2: Mic input socket as line input?

I don?t know what you want to do but the Tecra M2 supports the external microphone jack.
This port allows you to connect the external mic. So you can use it to record the voice on the HDD or to use it with i.e. Skype for speaking.

Has any one modified a Power Suply to Take 12 volt DC Input?

I would very much like to hear from you, or any one you may of heard of that has done this.

I wanted to Put a desktop case etc. in my car and use it to listen to music...

Thanks to anyone who replies...

Answer:DC Input Power Supply (12 volt input)

A standard Computer PSU rectifies the incoming mains (120 or 240 volt) and the "chops" it in a switchmode type power conversion.

Therefore as it starts with a high DC voltage (120 or 240 V AC rectified to DC) there is no easy conversion to make it use 12 V instead. Without a complete rebuild and redesign of the PSU.

By far the cheapest and easiest way is to use an off-the-shelf 12 V inverter that converts 12V to 120 or 240 V AC, and then you dont need to bother rebuilding the power supply from scratch.

Has the advantage of easily sourced power supply units for the PC. You would likely get away with a small 200 Watt unit.

If you have an HDMI OUTPUT on your PC, on many you have to manually set the HDMI on the Video card as the default playback device, rather than the usual "speakers". Go to the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound/Sound Panel and on the Playback you will probably have an icon for the HDMI, select that as the default playback device and you should get the PC audio in the HDMI signal.

I have an HP Pavilion computer with an HP w2007v monitor. (The OS is Windows Vista).I've been getting the message "VGA Input - No Input Signal" and the monitor appears to be in sleep mode permanently. I've checked all the connections, cables etc and I have also connected the monitor to an old computer, where it worked fine. I'm guessing I need a new graphics card but don't know how to go about changing it. I have
opened up the box and cleaned it all out, but am not sure what to do now.

Could I take out the graphics card from the old computer and put it in the new one? The old computer is a Dell Dimension 5000 (Windows XP).
Or would it be an option to swap hard drives? (I urgently need to access my work but the old computer got a virus and doesn't work properly).I don't know the first thing about hardware really, so wondered what any of you would recommend I do:
1. Just buy a new graphics card and replace the old one - in which case, what would I buy?
2. Put the graphics card from the old machine into the new one. How do I do this and does anyone have any diagrams?
3. Swap the hard drives so that I use the old box with the new monitor. (this is probably a stupid idea, but who knows).

Please help!!

Ok, so I was running Win 7 RC and it was great. Its on a dual boot hard drive with xp installed. Anyways, one day it wouldn't boot into Win 7, so I ran a scan with Win 7's memory diagnostic scan and it said I had some sort of hardware problem. I didn't think that was the case since Win XP boots fine. So I talked to a buddy of mine and he told me he had a similar issue and he resolved it by removing all his ram and putting 1 stick at a time back in, and everything was fine afterwards. So I tried the same thing. I have 4 sticks - 2x1GB and 2x512MB. After I tried this method, I all of the sudden lost 1 GB of RAM. What I noticed was it was a specific 2 slots on my motherboard that doesn't seem to be detecting them. I also noticed that my northbridge fan wasn't working. I just finished replacing that.

So far I have tried a few things. I checked to make sure that the ram was still working. All the sticks work fine. The motherboard has 2 green dimm slots and 2 purple, the purple are the ones that don't work. I took all my ram out and put a single stick into a purple lot, and the system wouldn't boot. The bios only detects the ram in the green slots, along with Windows, but CPU-Z detects all 3 GB and even tells me which ram stick is in what dimm. I attached some photos of the CPU-Z on the ram. I also ran the regular windows ram diagnostic test, and after 67 passes, no errors.

Also, after reseating the ram a few times, Win 7 boots fine now, but th... Read more

Initially I was going to tell you that you may be running a 32-bit version of Windows and would need to upgrade to a 64-bit version to use all your RAM but after seeing that's not the issue here, I would suggest scanning your system on to make sure your memory is connected properly/compatible with your motherboard. Hey, I'm having problems with getting my GPU to work with Windows 7, I'm dual booting with Windows XP x86 (32bit) and with XP it's working perfectly.

I've done a CPU-Z report and uploaded the details via my website, you can check out the specs here. I've done the majority of troubleshooting steps that I've found via google, MSN, general bulletin board lurking and so on, I've yet to find the answer.

I'm running Windows 7 x64.

CPU-Z report on Windows 7 x64.

The error I'm currently recieving.

I've tried getting the drivers via the Windows Update tool.

I've tried going through the Device Management and locating the "nv_disp.inf" file, but I couldn't do it via that way, only goes to the "English" folder and no further.

I've also tried doing the same as above except going to "show compatiable hardware" unticking that, then clicking "Nvidia", then locating the 9500GT from the list and then trying that way but it does not work either.

My brother was trying to restore his friends laptop and during the process the power got disconnected and the C Drive got wiped--I believe.
I decided to fix it I would do a fresh install of Windows 7.

Everything was going great and I got the recovery disk to install, but my problem was the Hard drive wasn't showing up as unallocated disk space. The drive did show up, but not as any free space.

I tried to do some tutorials in diskpart to fix the drive, but to no avail.

Now, I can't even get windows, or BIOS to detect the drive.

The last diskpart command I did was to reformat it.

It wasn't the quick reformat, but the one that takes an extremely long time.

That's when I noticed it wasn't detecting anymore.

Answer:Windows 7 not detecting HDD

If the HD is not detected in BIOS then it likely is bad. You can try reinstalling it and check the contacts to see that it is correctly inserted, but if it won't register in BIOS then it's likely gone bad and needs replacing.

If you can get it to show up in BIOS then download and burn to CD the HD maker's HD Diagnostic using Windows Image Burner or ImgBurn then Boot to run the extended CD scan.

If this is OK then see if it will show up in Diskpart or installer now. If so, create a full Disk partition to run Disk Check from the DVD Command Line. Those two tests are needed to pass the HD as useable.

Hello, I'm new here. If this is posted in the wrong section, I apologize.

Today when i booted my computer, it said "windows has detected a decrease in memory" I turned off my computer, unplugged it, took out all 3 sticks of ram, put them back in...

Still, windows is only detecting 2gb of ram when I really have 3gb of ram.
Performance Index for ram went down from 5.9 to 5.5

Can someone tell me what to do so that windows recognized all 3gb of ram.

here's a a couple screen shots:

Answer:Windows 7 64 bit Only Detecting 2gb of ram?

It is giving this behavior, because likely, one of your memory sticks, or one of your memory slots has died. Swap them around to find out which it is, and then you can go about replacing that part. Hopefully, it will be one of the sticks, as that would be much simpler than replacing the mobo.

Problem: IDE HDD not being detected in Windows

A brief history of me and windows vista:
When Vista first came out, I obtained a Business/Enterprise Edition from work and decided to try it on my system. Unfortunately, like alot of people, i experienced quite a bit of problems, and the only reason why i went back to Windows XP Pro was because at the time Canon did not have a Vista driver/program for my laser multifunction centre.

Problem #1(Solved):
First problem i encountered was that Vista did not detect my Pioneer DVD burner, and finally after some googling and registry tweaking, it was found that because i installed PowerISO that mucked up a few things. Smiliar problem happened to another user whom installed Daemon Tools. So that's solved *Phew* SOLVED

Up until recently Windows explorer automatically detected an sd card when inserted in the card reader. However now it won't detect it. It does autmatically detect a USB drive inserted into the usb slot on the same hardware. I have ruled out a hardware issue by booting from other windows 7 drives on my machine and both times the sd card is detected by Windows explorer. I have tried checking the driver for the flash reader on the problematic hard drive and it says it is working properly. Is there a fix for this without reinstalling windows 7?

I have an old Athlon xp 2800 running XP sp2. After expanding its memory I had some "blue screen" events... I did some "house keeping" and apparently everything is fine again.

However, Windows seems not to recognize any devices attached to the computer. This applies to printer, sound, USB ports and even the network card (despite I could make it work after the house keeping).

When I open the Device Manager, it shows a blank page, as if there were no hw devices on the computer. Also, I tried to force a hw detection but it simply does not work.

I ran chkdsk /f several times and nothing was found...

I am afraid some windows files got corrupted.

Can anyone help with this?

Answer:USB Not detecting in Windows 7 ultimate

Hello and welcome vikas mate it is really hard without some system specs and just to get it clear in my mind did you say the hard drive previously had Windows 8 on it ? If so did you install over the top of the 8 or wipe and format the drive before you installed the Windows 7?

For the specs mate try running this Speccy - Download

I'm having problems with installing Windows XP Home edition to an old computer.

I'm getting a message: ?Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer?

The motherboard is old, Abit BE6-2. HD is 30GB IDE.

I tested the HD with Linux live CD, and it found no problems.
Linux install also seems to be going well (85% atm), however I'd like to get XP working.

Answer:Windows XP install not detecting HDD

Linux installed without problems. Why I can't install XP?

I have a dual monitor setup. I have 2 AOC e2252V monitors that would work fine on Windows 7. I have all updated drivers. I've checked the internet for multiple solutions but everyone's problem seemed to be that they didnt extend their displays. My problem is that both windows 10 and my graphics card are not detecting it. They are both connected to the DVI-D connections on my MSI R9 390 graphics card (installed with the latest drivers from 11/30/2015 on the MSI website.) One monitor is hooked up from VGA through a DVI-D adapter to connect to my graphics card. I assumed this wasn't the problem because I did the same thing on my previous card where it worked just fine. I checked to see if one of my DVI-D connections were faulty on the card, but my one monitor hooked up directly through a DVI-D cable (no adapter) works on both of them. If I hook up my TV through HDMI connection, it will detect my TV. I wonder if this is a problem with Windows 10, MSI R9 390, or the adapter. If anyone has a solution or advice, that would be greatly appreciated.
These are pictures of some of what I'm talking about. [1][2] This is a link to the adapter I am using. VGA from the monitor, connected to this adapter, into the graphics card.

Answer:Windows 10 not detecting 2nd monitor

Have you tried just one monitor using the adapter? That way if it works you have eliminated the adapter as the problem.

My laptop runs Win 7 Home Premium, all patches. I had an LG 500G phone and was able to connect it via a USB cable and copy off pictures. I lost that phone and got another. Connected it, Windows went "boo-doop", and that's it... no new drive, nothing in Device Manager, nothing. I tried re-installing the latest drivers from LGs site. Nothing. How can I try to get it to see the memory in my phone again?

Answer:Windows mostly not detecting USB device

Do you have a memory card in the phone?

While the phone is connected,

You may have to go to settings and tools/ USB mass storage device/ enable.

Specs: MOBO: Gigabyte GA-880GM-UDH2 Rev. 1.0 (AMD SATA)
BIOS Rev: F8
HDD Plugged in to SATA2_0
First off, I've read several post reporting the same thing and have tried to take the advice given in each. My question doesn't come from a laziness in research but not getting anywhere with previous suggestions.

I am trying to install Windows 7 Ultimate on a system I've had for a couple years that has previously had several OS's install on it (I use this system as a test bench), including Win7 Ultimate but this time the Win7 installer will not recognize the HDD. I've tried putting the HDD in another system and removing all partitions (with and without creating new partitions and formatting), tried changing BIOS settings from AHCI to IDE, tried loading drivers while installing Win7. I've tried using DISKPART and yes, it recognizes the drive. I've cleaned using both "CLEAN" and "CLEAN ALL". I've tried partitioning and formatting via DISKPART (and also just performing the CLEAN without partitioning and formatting) yet Win7 install will still not recognize the drive.

What's frustrating is that I had Win7 installed (using the same sourse for installation) as recent as last week before wiping it clean to put Win8.1 on this thing to do some testing.

Any help and/or suggestions?

Answer:New Windows 7 Install Not Detecting HDD

Wow. Can't believe I forgot this BUT on this particular MOBO you need to have the bootable USB stick plugged in to SPECIFIC USB ports (KB_MS_USB Ports) ONLY. Problem solved. Working now.

I recently just bought a new pc and I am having issues with using dual monitors.
I have Windows 7 Home Premium and a AMD Radeon R7 260X 2GB graphics card. It is suppose to support up to 3 monitors at one time. It has a Display port, HDMI port, and two DVI ports (1 DVI-I Dual Link and 1 DVI-D Dual Link).
I am using both DVI ports at the moment and I am using standard DVI-D Single Link cables as it shows they are compatible with both dual link DVI-D and DVI-I ports. I have a 22 in wide screen hanngs monitor and a smaller 19 in princeton monitor.
My two monitors are different sizes, but both have a DVI-I dual link port and both are set to use a digital signal. I used the AMD Driver Detector to get the newest drivers and updates to the Catalyst Control Center(CCC). I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver a couple times with no success.
This is what the AMD Radeon R7 260X 2GB card looks like:,3253,l=320681&a=318900&po=2,00.asp
When I start windows both screens display the windows starting screen. When I get to the blue splash screen the bigger monitor goes to sleep and says it doesn't detect any signal. My other monitor works just fine. I tried using windows and ccc to detect my second monitor, but neither could find it.
I then tried booting into safe mode. When in safe mode CCC is not active and both monitors d... Read more

Hello all,

I recently formatted my computer due to it freezing up. I've currently got a 128GB SSD, and a 1TB (SAMSUNG Spinpoint F3 ST1000DM005/HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -

I've installed the Motherboard Drivers, and the GFX card drivers. Not sure how I can get my second hard drive to show up in My Computer. I didn't reformat it or anything...I figured I'd be able to just format windows that was on my SSD(c drive) and I'd be able to keep everything on the 2nd drive.

In Device Manager I see both Hard Drives under the Hard Drive section....Any ideas?

Answer:[SOLVED] Windows not detecting 2nd HDD

If you go to Disk Management does the drive show up there?

If so see if reformatting the drive fixes the issue. Formatting the drive will delete anything on it!

I've got a Lenovo X230 Tablet and the problem is these things come with a combined audio/microphone jack. So recently, I bought a combiner (one of these things: 3 5mm Earbud Headset Headphone Earphone Splitter FOR Tablet Phone MP3 MP4 | eBay) and although it doesn't specifically say its used for this purpose, I've used it at least 10 times and it has worked perfectly fine through Skype, Wavepad, etc. The microphone from headset worked, sound came into the headset, everything was perfect.

Now here's the problem. It suddenly stopped working.
I've plugged my headset into my mother's laptop (which has separate audio and microphone jacks) and confirmed that the headset is fine.
I plug the mic/audio from headset into combiner and into laptop as always but I only get audio. I've swapped them around and audio still comes in so I think the combiner should be fine too.
However, my microphone isn't detected. It was as simple as plug it all in before, but now I don't know what the problem is. I've updated my Realtek HD Audio Manager driver and restarted multiple times but nothing has changed.

This is what Windows shows.
I don't know what the top one is because I've never used 'Bluetooth Hands-Free Audio'. The bottom one that just says Microphone would be the built-in microphone which has terrible sound quality and might as well not be there.

Please help cause this is beyond inconvenient and annoying. Something that works fine suddenly... Read more

I have a new Lenovo AIO that came with Windows 10. From the start, it successfully detected a second monitor connected by HDMI. Yesterday I disconnected the second monitor in order to move to a new location. Now Windows is not detecting the second monitor. I've disconnected and re-connected the cable and re-booted but to no avail. In device manager it shows that I have the latest update for the display driver. Any ideas?

I have been given a "broken pc" which is a pentium 233 with 32mb ram and a 2gb hdd.I discovered the reason it was "broken" was that the grapgics card had come out of the pci slot and assumed that it had been manhandled or dropped, but when I fixed this, fdisk'd, formatted and installed an old win98 and now windows will not detect the mouse, but I can navigate windows with the keyboard. The mouse port is a serial one connected through to the motherboard with a thin ribbon cable connected to a 10 pin rectangular socket. I have checked all the cables are in ok.As I do not have a serial mouse I have connected a ps2 mouse through an adapter. Initially I thought that either the mouse or the adapter may also be faulty but I have changed both of them, and it still will not detect the mouse.I am now wondering if there is a motherboard or serial port fault and how to get around it.Could I fit a pci card to one of the spare slots with either a ps2 or serial connector for the mouse, and would I have to disable something in the bios or motherboard to enable this to be detected, or does anyone have any suggestions please. The only identification I can see on the motherboard is Winbond written on a couple of the chips. Any help would be appreciated.Thanks.

Answer:Help please - Windows not detecting mouse !!

Hi, Sounds like a driver problem to me.GO to and find the driver for your mouse, you may be able to install over the old driver,if not uninstall the old driver and then install the right driver from that site.Hope this helps.
