Front audio headphone jack reversed stereo...

Question: Front audio headphone jack reversed stereo...

I have a Gigabyte GA-P55-UD5 motherboard with on-board sound by Realtek, and my case is Thermaltake's "Element G".

I connected the front panel audio cable to the designated connection on the motherboard, however, whenever I plug-in my headphones, the stereo is reversed! Meaning that the headphone for the Right ear is playing the audio channel for the Left ear, and vice versa.

I end up having to wear my headphones in reverse to enjoy correct stereo sound.

I checked the front panel audio connection to the motherboard, thinking that maybe I plugged it in the wrong way or something, but apparently there is only one way to plug it in.

My first guess was that this was a design flaw with the case, and that they mixed up the audio channel connections in the front panel. However, when I plugged my headphones DIRECTLY to the REAR audio jack, it's exactly the same story!

The fact of the matter is that the on-board audio is mixing up the stereo channels! I actually remember that on my previous computer with on-board audio it was the same exact problem.

1) Is this a known issue with on-board sound cards in general?

2) Most importantly, is there any way I can fix this in Windows 7? Reverse the stereo channels so that they are outputted correctly?

Thanks in advance!!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Front audio headphone jack reversed stereo...

Never mind. I tried a different pair of headphones and there was no problem. Apparently my cheap "Sony" headphones were just defective.

I lost stereo through the front speaker audio out jack ( green). This occurred after I did some acoustic recording through the mic input using an acoustic pickup. Now I can only hear right or left on playback depending on how far in the adapter is pushed in.

Answer:Audio out front speaker jack lost stereo.

Since there is both left and right sound at the jack I would suspect that there is a fault with the wiring to the ring of the plug.

Hello BleepingComputer

I just upgraded my computer a few days ago, and I am having problems with the Front Jack Audio/Headphone.

Normally, I set my Headphone to run simultaneous with my Speaker with Realtek HD audi/Stereo Nix (Disable Front Jack Detection and vice versa), and I could change the volume on both devices separately.
But since I changed the motherboard, when I have realtek installed, it doesn't have the Headphone setting in Sound/Playback.
The headphone work perfectly, but its linked to the Speaker's volume, which is really annoying.
Also, the Realtek layout changed from the last one I got, and doesn't have the "Disable Front Jack Detection" option.
(Picture: http://i903.photobucket.com/albums/ac232/notyellowasian11/Untitled-1_zps2242cdba.jpg)

So far, I have tired..
Installing an older version of Realtek driver;
Changing the audio setting in the BIOs (HD or AC97)
Changing the audio connector on the MOBO (Hd or AC97)
Tried multiple compinations with Realtek HD audio manager settings.
Cleaned every plugs/jacks related on that.

So far, I couldn't been able to get the Headphone tag at all when Realtek is installed.

Thanks !

I want to get my MP3 player running through my CD player's speakers. Can anyone help?

Answer:Headphone jack to stereo speakers

Are you talking about a "boom box" type cd player? If so, your stereo needs to have some type of aux input. You can use the headphone jack of the mp3 player as an output but keep the volume low. Inputs are normally line level so they don't need a lot of power sent to them to amplify the music. Infact, sending too much of a signal into an input can damage a stereo. try to balance it so the volume you here from a cd and the mp3 player are the same. .1 watt is enough for the line level input.

I searched for audio drivers for your system and was unable to find anything directly related to your board. the Sound card is built in and is the IDT 92HD202. The only drivers I can find are for the 92HD series that were put into Dell Precision 5400 laptops. Those drivers stopped at Windows Vista. Chances are, since IDT has discontinued the manufacturing of hte 92HD series chip, you won't find Windows 7 drivers.

My front headphone jack was working properly yesterday, untill I ran across this problem. I left my computer on for at least 8+ hours doing nothing, then when I got back, my headphone jack did not work. When I put my headphones in the front audio jack, it does not detect it. I looked for the 'Headphones' in audio system (yes, I put it on show disabled devices, and disconnected devices),but it did not show up. Everytime I put my headphones in, the speakers keep on working, but it does not detect the headphones. Please help!

Hello. I seek aid from people with experience. I've tried alot of things and have recieved some help from my friends but nothing have worked. I was searching for solutions to my problem just back n forth on the web and i ended up here and i figured even tho the post i found here didn't help me i might aswell give it a try and see if someone else has any ideas. I'm sorry if i'm doing this wrong or if im simply not using the appropriate methods of posting this but anyway here goes. Some brief info about my gear:I'm using a Dell Dimension 9200, os; windows xp media center. The comp itself is fairly old but is still up and running. My headset is a Icemat Siberia headset. I think my sound card (not sure) is called SigmaTel Audio~To my problem. I accidentally pulled my headset cable away from my comp with a lil to much force  which caused the top half of the metal piece which goes into the headphone jack to snap of and get suck inside my headphone jack. This obviously broke my headset so its not usable in any other comp but I can still plug it in to the same jack and retrieve sound in my right earphone. However the problem exists I either need to get that piece out of there which seems nearly impossible (I have tried probably 10+ different methods.) or I need to disable this jack in order to be able to use the jack on the back of my computer. You see the computer seems to think i still have my headset plugged in quite obviously since the tip of the heads... Read more

Hi,

When I first installed Windows 7 on my computer I had to manually install a sound driver. I went to the Dell site and downloaded the only audio driver for my system, Dell Precision T7500.

The driver was SoundMax. The onboard sound worked, but the headphone socket one the front wasn't. Even when I had my headphones plugged it they werent getting picked up on Playback devices.

A friend of mine told me to just delete the driver, and let windows download its own sound driver (it didn't do it when I installed windows for some reason). So, I rebooted after uninstalling the SoundMax driver and Windows automatically downloaded and installed the "High Definition Audio Device" driver.

Now the audio icon in the windows tray has a red cross on and says "No speakers or headphones are plugged in" I plugged my headphones in on the fron headphone jack and its not picking them up.

I click the icon and let it troubleshoot headphones. I get the following message "The peripheral does not appear to be plugged in. Check the connection. Proceed to next step to finish." I unplug them and plug them back in, click next, and it just says the issue is not fixed.

I have taken the side panel off and check the connections and all wires are connected.

dxdiag is showing as no sound card present. Results are below:

Hey

Recent problem, basically I've turned up all possible volume controls I can find, tried multiple programs, multiple headphones and earphones, and the problem remains = sound is fine when it's coming out my cheap 2.1 speaker set, but when I use the headphone jack, it's really quiet.

It's a PC with no sound card, motherboard Gigabyte SKT-1366 X58-USB3 Motherboard which has the realtek HD audio on it. I actually just saw the sticky about it switching output, which it used to do (I don't understand the fix at all), but I fixed it myself by uninstalling the realtek driver and letting windows install its own driver on a reboot, which worked.

I don't know if there's any more detail you need, but I can assure I've done all the basic stuff to increase the volume and it's maxed out at a very bearable medium voolume.

Thanks for any help.

Answer:Headphone front jack is far too quiet

UPDATE: I reinstalled the 2009 realtek driver from the motherboard's website and it's loud again, but I have the infuriating problem where it switches from headphones to speakers every 2 seconds. The realtek control panel is flickering so fast I can't even click on the "settings" button. It's like someone is repeatedly pulling out my jack, and it's confusing the system so much. All it says is "Reloading audio devices..." every single time, and the sound switches randomly between speakers and headphones.

I first thought this was a hardware problem but it looks like it's the driver. I cannot even begin to understand what the solution is in the sticky, because there is no clear description of the actual problem (whether it even relates to this) and also because I don't even know where to find ""HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE", search finds nothing.

I recently run into this problem. The first time I tried to use it, it seems that the green jack for my headphones doesn't work at all. Plug in any pair and they don't even recognize it being there, as seen in Control Panel.

What might be the problem? The case has a bad jack, or the connector on the motherboard?

I have an Intel 865GRH board which has the internal sound card, SoundMax. Recently, I connected the Front Panel Headphone wires in the mobo (near PCI slot 3) arbitrarily, so that I could hear only sound, no microphone. But now, I want to connect my microphone, but I cannot connect the microphone jack in Front panel as I haven't connected the wires internally.

Also, I tried to connect the speaker jack in the internal sound card in the back panel. ButI get the error message that I cannot hear the sound from both the speaker as well as the Headphone (connected to the Front Panel Headphone Jack) even though I have already disconnected the Front panel wires. So, it's a nuisance trying to hear and record at the same time.

Since, I don't have mobo's manual, either suggest me how I can connect the internal wires in the mobo so that i can use microphone as well or suggest me how I can get rid of the error message and hear the sound from the back panel jacks.

Answer:Disconnecting the Front panel Headphone Jack

do you know the model/maker of your mobo you can always download the manual from the manufacture site.

I am trying to get the headphones working on my desktop. The pc uses an msi p45 platinum mobo. It also has a Creative soundblaster X-fi soundcard, which the speakers are plugged into.If I disconnect the speakers and plug the headphones in they work fine. But I get nothing from the front jack.Could the soundcard be preventing the on board sound set up from working?Which is better anyway? (Creative X-fi or the onboard sound)Whats the easiest way to get the headphones working from the front jack plug?

Answer:Front panel headphone jack not working.

Soundblaster is much better than on-board sound. Your sound card has got three or four Line-out sockets, use one of these for the Headphones? The front audio sockets are very often not actually connected to the mobo.

I've seen similar posts regarding this, however none have helped so I'm starting my own one...hopefully someone can help.

I upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7 64bit. In XP, I used the front panel headphone jack for hooking up to my TV, or headset. Since I've upgraded, this headphone jack doesn't work. The 'Manage Audio devices' in the control panel shows headphones as not connected in the front jack. The microphone works fine.

I've tried looking for updated drivers - I have the latest. I tried to switch the BIOS settings from HDaudio to AC97 - doesn't work. I tried to install the Soundmax High Definition Audio utility from my motherboard installation disk, but Windows 7 won't let me run the setup (not compatible with the OS).

Any advice / help would be appreciated.

System specs are:

Motherboard - ASUS P5N32-E SLI PLUS
Sound - (with the motherboard) Supreme FX Audio
CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo 6600 2.4 GHz
Memory - 4 GB
Video - Geforce 8800 GTS 640MB
OS - Windows 7 64bit

Answer:Front panel headphone jack problems

I have the exact same motherboard : P5N32-E SLI.
I'm using the soundcard that came with the mobo (supreme fx).
Just upgraded from 32 bit Vista Home edition to 64 bit Win 7 Professional.
My front headphone jack has not worked since the upgrade.
Control Panel identifies the Headphones as 'not plugged in'.

In a slightly unrelated topic. My xbox 360 is hooked up to the line in port for sound at back of my pc. It was always a bit distorted with Vista (a problem I was too lazy to confront).
But since the upgrade to Win 7 the distortion has become intolerable.

Anyone out there who can help?
cheers.

Hello Eight Forums.

My trouble is the audio output through headphones - background is louder than foreground (especially in music - I often cannot hear the vocals at all; movies however are mostly fine, for reasons unknown to me; but generally, the sound is always different in some way).

I only have one pair of headphones to test it with. However these always worked fine with previous machines, and still do work fine with my iPhone 4. Although they are surely not the case, I cannot with confidence say that if it were a loudspeaker instead things wouldn't have been different.

So this is either a software or a hardware issue.

Software

My computer (details at the bottom) came with a SoundBlaster X-Fi MB3 equalizer program and RealTek High Def Audio drivers. I've uninstalled SoundBlaster hoping it would fix the issue (I didn't need an extra program like that anyway) but alas to no avail. Updating the RealTek drivers did no good still.

The only thing I haven't touched is the ghostly NVIDIA Virtual Audio Device (can it be the source of my trouble?) - I only first noticed it now when copy/pasting the Belarc data. I'll try and find out about it in the meanwhile.

Hardware

I wonder if it perhaps has something to do with my audio jack (laptop's brand new, but you can never know). I have what appears to be mic, headphone, S/PDIF and line in jacks... Is there a way to use the microphone or the line-in to test the headphones? To see if the headphone out is broken.

Answer:Messed up headphone audio; want to check headphone jack

First, the "My System Specs" is where you fill in what you have.

Does the internal speakers on the laptop work? Is the audio OK on the internal speakers?

The SoundBlaster program(s) is a software enhancement to the basic audio chip (ReaklTek). Many PC's now come with some type of enhancement such as the SoundBlaster or in the case of HP PC's its "Beats Audio".

Well, I uninstalled my audio drivers and noticed that there was a red led shining from inside the 3.5mm headphone jack, which I assume is a mini optical audio (digital) combo 3.5mm audio (analog) jack, and I am figuring that it determins if there is an optical plug or not using drivers, which is why it turned on when I unistalled my audio drivers. I would like to know for sure before I go and buy a mini optical to toslink adpater cable so I can get better audio quality out (the digital interface does not suffer from the interference that the analog does right?). I did some research (research is a bit of an overstatement) and found no sites that mentioned it, so I have decided to turn to the forums. So, is this an optical jack combo? And, how will it work in terms of the drivers, will it just auto select? Thanks.

Asus M4A78-EM motherboard using Realtek drivers from Asus site.

The front headphone jack did not work until I installed the Realtek drivers from the Asus site.

Actually they didnt work until I checked on Disable Front Panel Detection. That got it going but the rear speakers are still playing.

Mute the Rear Output Device When Front Input Is Plugged In is checked on.

From what I've read this is simply a result of having the front audio panel set up as AC97 instead of HDA. 5 wires versus 7(or is it 9)

I'll include some pics. First one is how the wires are currently configured and the second is a page from the manual.

ImageShack? - Online Photo and Video Hosting
ImageShack? - Online Photo and Video Hosting

With 2 extra pins on the left end of the front audio board not being used I'm wondering what they might be for? Are they not used or would running 2 wires from those pins to the Presence and Sense_send connectors on the audio header on the mb do anything.

Or are there an extra 4 wires used on an HDA front panel? Presence, Sense_send, Sense1_Retur and Sense2_Retur.

TIA

Hi.

My headphones are plugged in.
Taking them out and putting them back in again does nothing.
The front jack microphone does not do anything either.
I am pretty sure it's not a hardware issue, as it happened when I was playing around with the audio settings in the same window.
It isn't disabled and according to device manager, it's fine. But from my experience with device manager, it's probably wrong.

Answer:[SOLVED] Front headphone jack permanently disabled.

Hello krickit,

Is this a desktop or laptop?
Does the same issue appear if you connect external speakers and/or other headphones?

Also try booting into Safemode (Press F8 during startup) and see if the issue is the same here. First suspicion goes to either broken headphones or headphone jack, but to rule out all software causes, let us know some more information.

Hello, I'd like to know how to enable my front microphone/headphone entrance (the green and pink ones) on Windows 7

Thanks =)

Answer:How do I enable my front microphone and headphone jack with Windows 7?

The front panel should automatically be enabled, providing the cable for the front panel audio is connected to the motherboard, and you are using the correct sound driver. I assume you have Realtek as I used to have a P8Z77 LE Plus motherboard and it had Realtek on board audio.

On many PC cases there are two connections available for front panel audio, "HD Audio" and "AC 97". The HD Audio is preferred as it as some jack sensing functions that the older AC97 does not have.

I looked at the Realtek HD Audio Manager on my system and there is no option to enable or disable the front panel jacks. There is an option to mute or not mute the speakers when a headset is plugged in but that's all.

Even if you only have the generic, basic function, Windows installed High Definition Audio drivers installed instead of the correct hardware drivers you should still get front panel headphone operation.

Hello Forum, I hope I'm posting this in the right place...?

My device:G780 Notebook (M843RGE I3-2370M), Windows 7
Audio Driver: Conexant Audio Driver for Microsoft Windows 7 Version  8.54.32.50 (Smart Audio: 6.0.131.0)

Situation:My headphone jack is broken. Repair is too expensive. Instead, I want to redirect the audio signal to the microphone jack.

Problem:This seems not to be possible with my SmartAudio interface (Screenshot below). But I found a screenshot of exactly the function I need called "Jack Configuration" in the Help section (second screenshot below). It looks like I dont have the right system configuration (whatever that means, I'm not an IT/PC expert ...) to use this feature.

My question:
Is there any way I can reconfigure the audio jacks on my notebook? Do I need another Conexant Audio Driver software and if yes, which one?

I'm grateful for any helpful reaction!

Answer:G780 broken Headphone Jack / Audio Jack Configuration?

Sebastian

Hi! Thank you for taking the time to read this & hopefully help me resolve my issue. May the records state that I'm not the most experienced with computer hardware, but I'm interested in it and have been learning through my friends.
That aside, I recently got a Logitech G230 Stereo Gaming Headset. I've been plugging it into the audio/microphone jacks in the rear of my tower, and they've worked fine.
// Really great headset, by the way; very comfortable and I have no complaints about it as of yet.
Recently, upon cleaning out my tower, I found that there are audio/microphone jacks on the front panel. Who knew? I never really explored my computer tower so this was a neat find for me. I decided to see if my headset would work through them, and lo and behold, the feedback volume was significantly lower than it was in the rear jacks. To my dismay, I couldn't find out why this was, and Google ceased to give me the solution I desired.
Help is welcomed with open arms!

Answer:Front Panel Headphone Jack - Poor feedback issue

I'm not sure of what you are saying. Are you saying the sound volume in the headset is lower than it is plugging into the rear Green speaker jack?

There can be a sound level difference, depending on the impedance of the particular headset. The Green speaker jack on the rear is designed to feed a speaker system which will have a different impedance than headsets. Thus there can be a difference in the sound level.

Dell does not list the technical impedance specs for this model so I can't say for sure what the Speaker and Headphone jack impedances are.

I bought a Sunbeam Trio computer case a year ago and it has a headphone jack in the front. I plug my headphones into it and it gives me all kinds of noises (amplifies hard-drive activity, can hear fan motion, and general annoying high pitched hissing). Its not much a problem when I have music blasting but it is when I have them on and nothing is playing.

I'd really like the convenience of front port head phone access but will plug it into the back if need be. The thing is, the sound inputs on the back of the case (from motherboard) don't work. I've tried fixing it but it wont output sound.

My question is, is it common for computer cases with front headphone jacks to give extra feedback noises through headphones compared to plugging into a sound card? Does my problem have to do with the case itself, the motherboard, or something I did wrong?

Also, would buying a cheap PCI soundcard and plugging it into the back probably fix my problem? I want to be able to plug my headphones and listen to music without any extra noise coming out of them except music

Ok, i have a dual boot system with Vista Premium and XP. The following issue ONLY occurs in Vista. XP is fine.

When I insert my headphones into the front panel of my dell dimension the sounds cuts from the speakers and enters into the headphones as normal. But when removing the headphones the sound should automatically transfer into the speakers, but this doesn't happen and i get no sound at all, not even i put my headphones back in.

I have rebooted and uninstalled/reinstalled the drivers to no avail.

Any ideas?

Answer:No Sound after using Dell Dimension 8400 front headphone jack

It is a simple mechanical problem. When you plug in the headphone jack, a spring leaf is moved breaking the circuit to the speakers. When you remove the headphone jack, the spring leaf is supposed to move back to the normal closed position. The metal used to construct your headphone jack was made of a metal too soft to spring back into position. You will have to open the computer case and bend the contacts back to the correct position. If you are electronics savvy you can replace the jack -- or you should ask Dell to replace your computer under warranty.

Hi,
Is the issue only with the logitech speaker or have you tried another set of speakers or headsets  at the rear jack.

Answer:Front headphone jack static noise (Ideacentre 300-20ISH Desktop)

Hello jesprej

Thank you for using the Lenovo forum

What i suggest trying is a static discharge of the unit as this may be all it is. below is some steps for this.

To discharge static that may have built up inside your machine follow the steps below: 1. Plug the cable into the socket and the machine. 2. Turn power off at the wall. 3. Hold down the power button on the front of the machine for 1 minute 4. Turn wall socket back on. 5. Turn machine back on.

Not sure how or why it broke off. At first it was just dangling near the front of the socket, so I tried to get it out with tweasers. That failed, I just pushed it back further in. Now it is basically at the back of the socket and I can't get any sound out of my T400 beacuse it is running through that. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated pls Is there any way to get back there by taking the laptop apart? What are my options? I'll try anything!

How can I uninstall Dell Audio and only have the legacy Realtek Driver and Software in my XPS 14 (L421x)?
I installed some time age the default audio driver that I got from "Dell Drivers", this installed the "Dell Audio" + "MAXX AUDIO 4". I already uninstalled this thing, run CCleaner, deleted the folders, and downloaded and installed the legacy Realtek R 2.73 driver, but this thing (Dell Audio) is always installing with the driver.
My system audio is ridiculously loud. I need to put my system audio in somewhat 5~15 / 100% to get "normal audio", the only way I get realistic "normal audio range" is using my SteelSeries Wireless Headset with USB, this way the system audio goes to 100% automatically and I control the audio with the scroll located in the headset, even in 100% max audio, I get a "normal 100%", it's loud, but not EXTREME like the notebook audio!
Another problem, when I plugin my Apple Earpods, they simple doesn't work, I already tested them with tons of devices at home, and they are working great. The system doesn't even recognize them.
I think that everything would be resolved if I could install the Leagacy Realtek drivers & software, not this *** loaded with bloatware from Dell, I don't care about "MAXX Audio", "MaxxSense" and all this BS. If you look with attention, all the settings located in this "Dell Audio" menu are the same in the Real... Read more

The R400 has two separate audio / mic jacks.  The spec sheet says the jacks are microphone/line-in, Headphone/line-out . I'm looking to use external mic (possibly a VOIP / skype headset with separare headphone/mic plugs, or maybe iphone-type headset with the combo 3.5mm 4-conductor TRRS plug).  I see that many of the headsets have a stereo headphone plug (a y-adaptor that breaks out the iphone TRRS plug to two plugs also have a stereo mic plug).   Does anyone know if the R400 have a stereo mic input jack?   thanks

Equal Left & Right Speaker Balance Causes T61 Audio Volume To Go To Zero on Front Audio Jack. -- SoundMAX Integrated Digital HD AudioWhen the left and right sound channels on the T61 sound card are set to be equal, no sound comes out of the front speaker jack for IE8 or Windows Media Player. Shifting the L and R off equal (e.g. Left 20 and Right 30) the sound comes back on. Moving them back toward equal setting slowly decreases the speaker volume until it is gone. I reloaded and reinstalled the SoundMAX driver, but no change. I really didn't notice this until we started with iTunes which definitely notices L and R levels on playback.  Setting L = R and, whoops, no sound at all. And, this doesn't happen to the onboard T61 speakers.  They work as you would expect the L & R to work. I am setting speaker balance from Control Panel -> Sound  -> Speakers -> Levels -> Balance This is really bizarre. BTW, 64-bit Vista Any suggestions?   I'd like equal L & R balance AND volume from the front jack. Message Edited by rmyork on 08-14-2009 09:51 AM

Hi Forum,I use my computer a fair amount for music editing and my amplifier has just died on me.The Amp I was using was very cheap and didn't need to do anything special.Unfortunately, I don't seem to be able to find anything similar now.All I need to do is convert an Audio RCA input to a headphone jack output. The signal needs to be amplified as the input signal static so simply connecting straight to the RCA won't work.Anyone got any ideas of the cheapest way to do this? Or anyone know where I can get a cheap amp with a headphone jack output and RCA input? As always, any help appreciated.

Answer:Audio RCA to Headphone Jack?

I should imagine a trip to your local Maplins would sort you out. They have a wireless RF Headphone set (L 47 AA) which plugs into your source and Bobs your uncle ! Alternatively they have a cheap audio amp on a board which you can easily convert to your requirements with a couple of RCA plugs and sockets. OR, try EBay ???

Hello. I have a new, custom build and cannot get the front audio to work. The two USB ports along side the Mic and Headphone jacks work fine.
System Specs
The motherboard is a GA-990XA-UD3. Chipset AMD RD9XO Rev 02. Southbridge AMD
SB10/950 R40. Bios Award Software Ver F8
CPU: AMD Phenom II x6 1090T Black Edition Tuban HDT90ZFBGRBOX
Memory: Corsair Vengeance 16GB 4 x 4GB CMZ16GX3M4A1600C9
OS: Win7 (6.1) Home Premium SP 1 (Build 7601) 64 bit. Direct X 11.0
Don't think it makes a difference but I am running displayport out of the graphics card (Zotac 560 ZT-50701-10M) into the monitor (NEC PA241)

I downloaded updated drivers for the Reatec HD Audio Manager but that made no difference.
Audio out from the back panel works fine.

Any advice on what to try next would be greatly appreciated!

Answer:GA-990XA-UD3 Front Audio - Headphone and Mic - not working

Do you have the HD Audio connection to the motherboard from the front panel? (you can try the AC97 audio connection but the HD is the one for new motherboards). I'm not familiar with the display port, but I thought that was just video only, not like HDMI which is audio and video.

Do you get rear speaker audio output? If you don't have speakers, connect the headset to the rear GREEN speaker jack to check. If there is sound, its most likely either your connection from the front panel to the motherboard or the front panel. If there is no sound at the rear green speaker jack, check the Control Panel/Hardware and Sound and finally the Sound Panel. In the playback section, your "speakers" should be set as the default audio playback device.

But, it may be the front panel assembly is defective. I've had front panel problems with a couple of cases. I just built a new system, using a Gigabyte Z77X UD5H motherboard and a Corsair Carbide 500R case. There is a fan speed switch on the front panel of the case and it was not working, I had to contact Corsair and they sent a new front panel assembly which fixed the problem.

I just installed an ASUS Xonar DX 7.1 audio card along with driver v. 5.12.8.1792. The OS used is Windows XP Pro SP3 (32-bit).

I was hoping that by inserting the headphone jack into the appropriate front panel audio port, the audio through my speakers would be cut off and the only audio output would be through the headphone.

That is not happening. Instead, the audio through my speakers continues and there is no audio through the headphone. Only after I launch Xonar DX Audio Center, and under Analog Out select Headphone, I get audio through the headphone and the audio through the speakers stops.

There must be some setting somewhere that I am missing, right? I can't find any help about this in the FAQ or Troubleshooting sections or Google.

PS: The front panel audio connector is securely connected to the front panel header of the audio card. If it weren't so, I would not get any audio from the headphone at all.

I have a windows 10 laptop and up until yesterday everything was fine , and suddenly it seems that my audio jack doesn;t detect my headphone. I connect my headphone to the audio jack, but the sounds just came out my laptop's speaker. I've tried to switch to my earphone and the result is the same. Answer:Audio jack seems not detect my headphone

With what you stated you've tried, it could be an internal connection problem. Many Laptops have a small I/O board that is connected via a cable to the main board. If yours is this type, it may require "reseating" (unplug then plug back in) the connector.

My external speakers work fine, are loud for a laptop, really.

When I plug my headphones into the headphone jack (and yes, it's the right jack), there's no change, the audio continues from the external speakers.

I had the motherboard replaced recently, as it went dead, by a Dell tech, so could he have put it back together incorrectly?

It sounds like the headphone jack wasn't connected back to the motherboard, or perhaps the tech mixed up the mic/headphone jacks.

Immediately whenever a headphone or earbud is plugged in, the audio is crackly, until I go to the realtek audio manager which doesn't have many options. once I change the Left-Right balance to being very one-sided, the cracks and pops don't occur anymore. However all of the balance is off, voices are not audible, and SFX or background music/tracks are output very bad.Testing the left-right balance, both play the same as if the headphones are mono audio.

I've been watching the Playback devices in the sound control panel and I'm rather confused why this is happening. Essentially, if I am listening to music (or anything for that matter), and I plug in headphones, the computer acknowledges that headphones are plugged in, but keeps the sound going to the previous device. Once I stop the music, then restart it, the sound will go to the headphones. If I unplug the headphones, the sound does not go back to the speakers until whatever program outputting sound restarts.Any ideas on this one?Edit: I should specify. It seems to only route the audio to another device once the program itself is restarted.

Possible Solution:
Put Windows to Sleep, then wake it up. Headphone jack audio will be restored.

Problem:
Headphone jack randomly stopped outputting audio.
volume control at 100% and appearing to work normally. Laptop internal speakers worked fine.
Windows detects headphones plugged in, but no sound in headphones.
Uninstall sound card and realtek drivers, reboot did not fix problem.

Tested Linux live CD and headphones worked in Linux.
So hardware was definitely not broken. Only Windows was broken.

(I had this issue recently, so I'm leaving this here for search engine results and anyone who has this problem in the future)

Is this correct?

In such case you should change the HiFi settings (equalizer, etc?)

Additionally you should check the preinstalled software called TOSHIBA Audio Enhancement Utility.
The Toshiba Audio Enhancement application was designed in order to provide you with a highly improved audio experience when listening e.g. your preferred music tracks.

Hello, I recently bought a Flex 2-14 with Windows 8.1 installed and upgraded it to Windows 10 (Education Version). I haven't tried the sound on the 8.1 system - directly upgraded to Windows 10.Symptoms:When I plug in headphones, the notebook doesn't recognize them. When I unmute/mute using the F1 keys sound comes through the headphone - terrible quality, though. When I change the volume using the F2/F3 keys that switches it back to the loud speakers and so on.It seems to me that the laptop doesn't recognize the headphones at all. When I look into the sound devices in the taskbar, there aren't any headphones listed.Failed attempts to solve the problem:Updating the drivers from the Lenovo website.Updating drivers from Realtek directly.Sleeping/waking the notebook.Turning off the multichannel option with the Realtek HD Audio-Manager.I think that's pretty much all I've tried so far. Most of the times the problem just stayed the same. Sometimes it wouldn't switch back to the speaker when pressing the F1/F2/F3 keys, but that is all that my attempts changed so far.I'm thankful for any hints!

I have just bought a HP Pavilion 15 n-278sa laptop. It comes with a single 3.5mm port which is used for both audio out and line in. The laptop will work fine when outputting sound through the jack and a pair of headphones. However when i try to use the same port as a line in to record sound from an external device i am having some problems. I am trying to connect my mixer to the laptop using a standard lead, red & white one end and 3.5mm jack on the other. At first I was not getting any change whatsoever under the Recording tab in Sound settings. It just says 'not plugged in' under the microphone. After doing some research I found that the lead I was using, a 3 section plug, would not work and that was the reason there was no change when i plugged it in. I bought a 4 section plug & eureka, the laptop recognised the lead & showed this on the Recording tab. I thought my problem was sorted but this was not the case at all. As soon as I plug the red & white end of the lead into the output on the mixer, the laptop screen displays the 'not plugged in' message again as though I have unplugged the lead at the 3.5mm jack end. This makes no sense to me whatsoever?!? Hi I have had audio issues with my Envy 15 for ages (possibly since W10 upgrade?) and they are now really irritating me. The output on the headphone jack is completely flat - no bass or treble, horrible to listen to. The internal speakers work fine. I have the "IDT High Definition Audio Codec" installed, version 6.10.6491.0. I have tried changing this to "High Definition Audio Device" - this makes the Headphone jack work perfectly, but the internal speakers tinny and horrible. I have searched the forum and can see plenty of people have this problem, but no clear solution. HELP!! Thanks

Hey guys,So I was working on my HP Pavillion notebook and I accidentally tangled my earphone around my neck and broke them, leaving the headphone 3.5mm tip in the audio jack.        I tried everything to remove it, I soldered the end of the broken piece back onto it and tried to pull it out but couldn't, I tried super glue, and glue gun but everything failed. I even contacted and reached out the service centre in my city but they said they will charge me for the whole board coz they won't fix it and instead they will replace it (even though my laptop was only 2 months old). I have given up on getting rid of the broken piece and want any of you guys to help me changing my driver. I tried to uninstall the audio jack from device manager and enabled the speakers but it still won't work I tried several ways to contact HP support but they are out of reach and won't have a similar issue on its forums and guides. if you guys could help me out, that would be amazing.Thank you!.

Hi guys,

I've signed up here to try and get some help with this issue in particular. After having a quick Google around I've seen that it is a fairly common issue for headphones or earphones to sound tinny on Windows 10 with Realtek HD Audio. However, the only fixes that I could find were driver updates are disabling all sound enhancements. I've tried both of these fixes but yet the problem persists on my end.

Has anyone had this problem before or have any suggestions that may fix the issue? I imagine I'm missing something simple but can't think what it could be for the life of me.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Many thanks,

James

Hi, Omarattia  ?

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

You can also start by flushing out all static, remove battery and AC adaptor and hold down power button for about 15 seconds.

Check the Playback Devices under Sound Properties (by going to Control Panel > Sound > Playback Devices and see if the Headphone is being set as the default playback device. If not, click on it and set it as the default playback device, try to play a sample sound and observe.

Firstly, I updated to Win 10 about 4 months ago and this problem only showed up yesterday.  Please! read this first (opens in new page and I pasted it just in case) http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Desktop-Audio/HP-Envy-Desktop-headphone-jack-not-working/td-p/4010564 Scroll down to where "RandShouse" writes:"1. Click the Start button.2. Type Beats Audio and select the Beats Audio Control Panel.3. Select Advanced Settings from the top menu.4. Under Jack Information uncheck the box that says Enable auto pop up dialog, when device has been plugged in." What's happening is that my laptop's audio is working with earbud, headphones (anything that works with the headphone jack). But the problem is that terrible Beats software. So if I watch a youtube video with the earbuds then remove them, the laptop audio works perfectly fine! Then Beats kicks in and recognizes that I just unplugged a device when it says "You just unplugged a device." Which makes pefect sense. Because I just removed the earbuds. And for a few seconds, the audio from my laptop (speakers) works perfectly fine. But then Beats audio malfunctions and says that "You just plugged a device...". WHICH IS WRONG. So I tried to follow the steps written by RandShouse but step 4 is not even there. For some reason, I don't have the checkbox and I could go to Control Panel > Sys and Security > Hardware and Sound > Realtek. But I don't have realtek (which has it's better way of dis... Read more

How is the microphone jack on the front panel wired? I was told this jack works as Microphone and LINE IN. Is the jack a 3-pole stereo jack or 4-pole jack? If it is 4-pole, does it comply with CTIA standard wiring (Ring2 is common and Sleeve is microphone)?

Hey, I have a flex 14 ideaPad and up until recently everything's been running smoothly audio-wise (when headphones were and were not plugged in), except for randomly a couple of days ago when I plugged headphones into the jack and no sound came through either the headphones or the speakers, although the headphones were detected by the laptop. When I unplugged them sound would come through the speakers again. I tried again with a different set of headphones but the problem reoccurred which lead me to believe the problem is with the laptop, after searching for solutions online I decided to delete and then reinstall the audio drive (Realtech HD Audio Manager). This fixed the problem for a couple of days but now the same problem has returned. I am confused as to whether this is a hardware/software based problem as when I reinstalled the driver it did solve the problem so it couldn't really be hardware related. Would anyone know what the problem is? Should I just keep on deleting and reinstalling the driver? Again the headphones are detected by the laptop, they do not appear as their own playback device though (is this always the case?) Thanks, Tiernan

Answer:Flex 14 Headphone Jack/Audio Issue

The Realtek configuration on the Flex has Windows only show a single, common device for all the audio outputs.

Here's the latest Realtek driver. If the issue persists after, I would recommend a warranty call.

I recently installed a Kinivo Bluetooth adapter (BTD-400) on my HP G71-340US laptop (Windows 7 64-bit OS).  Although the bluetooth adapter works as expected, my headphones don?t get any audio output when plugged into the laptop jack.  I checked the Manage Audio Devices / Sound / Playback panel and the ?Independent Headphones? (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC) are in working order.  In fact, the Headphones can be seen changing status on the Playback panel when I plug in or remove the headphone connection.  So the hardware seems to be working fine just like before. I ran the Microsoft Troubleshooting tool and it did find an issue with the Independent Headphones but was unable to automatically fix it.  The problem was identified as: Audio device isn't set as default.  However, the "Independent Headphones" are listed as the "Default Communications Device" on the Playback tab. I?m not sure what I need to do next to resolve this issue.  Please advise. Thanks.Jeff

I've recently been having a problem with my headphones. The computer recognizes that I've plugged them in but it still uses the external speakers and there's no sound coming through the headphones. I've tried more than one pair of headphones and it still doesn't work. Restarting the computer worked once but not anymore.

Answer:Speaker/headphone/audio jack problem

There is usually a hardware switch in the socket, which is engaged when you put the plug in. Seems like it might be mechanically broken.

When I plugged in the headphone into the audio jack, there is no sound.  The sound is coming from the internal speakers.  I just installed System Mechanic and ran a system analysis.  I don't know if the registry was changed or what.  There is not a problem with the headphone; I tried another headphone and have the same problem.  The laptop detects the headphone, an icon shows in the Notifications area saying a device was plugged in.

Answer:No sound when headphone is plugged into audio jack

Hello. See if it will work when you switch from the Realtel driver to the Windows native audio driver.
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted, then no need to restart.
[To get back to the Realtek driver, do it again but reverse the names in steps 2 and 7.]

Hi All: i have thus far been unable to confirm if the headphones jack on the right side is a headphones ONLY jack or a combo microphone/headphones jack.   It would make no sense to put in a headphones ONLY jack, but stranger things have happened in this world. I've seen conflicting reports.    May I ask for a definitive confirmation please? Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I just realized that stereo output is inverted (L&R are swapped) on my Realtek front panel headphones connector and on my M-Audio Firewire card. Output is OK on Realtek rear main/front speakers connector.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
Thanks,
J

Answer:Stereo Audio Output Inverted on Realtek Front Panel and Firewire Card

The front panel Headphone switch could just be a wiring error in the front panel, since it is correct at the rear panel. Or the cable that connects the front panel to the motherboard has a wiring error (assuming the connector is properly connected). Many cases have two audio connectors for the front panel, HD Audio and AC97 audio. The HD Audio is the preferred, if you are not using that, connect it and see if that helps. If you have HD Audio connected, and you have AC97, use that.

The MAudio device is a separate issue. I have a Sonar X2 recording studio and have an MAudio Fastrack Ultra 8R interface unit (and a Roland Octa-Capture). I used to have a firewire unit, a Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 and any channel swapping was done in the DAW program (e.g. Sonar).

I have in the last 6 months bought a new PC that came with vista, ever since I have owned it the front audio jacks have not worked in the "Realtek HD Audio Manager" it doesn't even show as something is plugged in.

I have become very annoyed at this as time goes on as I notice how useful it is so today I just decided that I will try it in Ubuntu and the front audio jacks work perfectly I can get sound out of the headphone jack and can record with the microphone jack!

Darn you vista!

Can anyone help me with this problem?

It is NOT a Vista issue, call the OEM and have them help you fix it.

Answer:static from front audio jack??????

sogone209,
My first thought is to have you make and unmake the connection into that front plug many times and even hit it with air or better yet to use a little contact enhancer on the pin and make and unmake the connection. What happens is if the connections are barely being made then noise and interference can make it's ugly and noisy presence known.

Hello, I recently built a new PC and have been very happy with it's performance. But the only problem is my front audio jack doesn't want to work! I have the standard 6 jack audio on the rear of my computer's case, which seems to work fine with some speakers I'm using. But when I try to plug in headphones on the front of my case, none of the headphone devices will work!

The speakers attached to the rear panel will continue to operate when headphones are plugged into the front. But the headphones should be taking sound priority from the speakers when plugged into the front, if I'm not mistaken.

The cases front panel connections are indeed properly attached to the motherboard, so nothing in terms of hardware should be wrong with the front audio jack. I believe it's something I may have to configure using Windows Control Panel, etc. But here's a link to my case anways:

Ok, i have an Alienware x51 and the front headphone audio jack has stopped working. I will admit that i tried messing around with the settings on my computer to solve an issue with sound in a game but, this made it worse.
When i plug in my headphones and do an audio test with Realtek i can hear the sound but it is so low that i have to make the whole room silent to hear it. This also happens with my speakers too and any other device.
If it is a problem with the audio jack and not something to do with settings can i follow up on my warranty? Or does this not come under it?
I really need help because i am now forced to use the normal sound coming out of my monitor and it is very bad quality. Any help will be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Answer:Front audio jack not working!

Same issue and one of very many issues I have had. I can say with confidence I will not purchase another Alienware system.

Heya all. I'm only new to these forums so just bear with me.

A month or two ago I had a new motherboard put in, I used to have a Gigabyte K8 mobo but now I have a Jetway mobo. I have front audio and mic jacks on my tower, but the problem is ever since I had this new motherboard put in it hasn't worked. Both mobo's had AC97 audio, but the Gigabyte mobo had a different brand I think, whereas this Jetway's onboard is Realtek AC97. I've tried different drivers, and still no go. But when I take the green speaker plug out the back of the tower and plug it into the front green jack, you can hear like the sound scratching as I put it in but there just isn't any sound when its in. Same happens with my headphones. The main reason I would like to get it working is so I can easily just plug my headphones in it like I used to and just turn the speakers off, but now I can't because I'm not getting any audio from the front jack what so ever ever since I got this new mobo. I hope somebody can help me with this issue. Thanks!

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Have the front panel audio connectors been connected to your new mobo?

Get whoever installed your new mobo to take a look.
