System Event - Changing sound makes a sound, how to mute it?

Question: System Event - Changing sound makes a sound, how to mute it?

Did my searching and couldn't find this one...

When I modify the speaker volume using the "Volume Mixer" icon, it generates a sound. When I adjust using the "Speakers/Headphones" icon, it does not make a sound.
I would like to mute the Windows 7 sound that happens when I adjust the sound, preferably without effecting the other system sounds? I can't find out which system 'event' it is that causes a sound to be generated when I modify the speaker volume. I'd like to mute it, i.e. no sound when I change the volume.
thanks

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, I have several R61i's and have noticed when we physically push the mute button on the laptop the sound mutes, but the change doesn't appear in the Windows Sound applet. The fix is to simply press the volume up/down buttons on the laptop, but this is confusing users as they'd expect the windows applet to show a checkmark in the mute box if/when the laptop is muted. Thanks in advance-

The light on this button has always been dark when volume was on, and orange during mute.  This condition seems to have started with recent, unknown update.   Don't know if it is a keyboard issue or sound driver issue.  Can't find drivers for either on HP drive download site.

Hello Everyone,
I am looking for help on how to fix my problem.
My F1- Mute, F2-Sound Decrease, and F3-Sound Increase buttons won't work on my new Dell™ Inspiron 15 Laptop Computer i5559-4013SLV.
Some info. If you need more, let me know I'll post back asap.
My sound works fine.
I've had the computer for less than a month.
Everything else works fine, I just can't get these *** sound buttons to work. I have to manually go to the taskbar to raise or decrease volume at all times.

Thanks!
David

Answer:My F1- Mute, F2-Sound Decrease, and F3-Sound Increase buttons won't work on my new Dell™ Inspiron 15 Laptop Computer i5559-4013SLV

davidspetservices,
Try pressing Fn and escape together and then try the sound buttons and see if they work now. You can also try pressing Fn and F1, F2 and F3 together.
You can also go into the BIOS, hold shift while clicking restart and choose the BIOS.  Under POST behavior look for Fn options.  You can enable Fn and escape as a toggle by checking Fn Lock.  Of leave it unchecked and make sure that Lock Mode Disable/standard is selected should work as media keys.
I will shoot you a friendship request in case you continue to have difficulties.

It's a new Dell and it has been making crackling sound since I got it.
I spent an hour on the phone with a technician who restored the laptop with Windows 8.1 to an earlier point in time and it stopped crackling for the rest of the day, but the next day, the noise was back.
The worst are "ding" sounds, they have more crackle than ding. Video playback is bad but at least we can understand what is said. Youtube is bad. mp3 audio is bad. Crackle is there with earphones too.

lelouIt's a new Dell and it has been making crackling sound since I got it.
Hello. If it made the noise right out of the box you probably should have returned it as defective during the brief return period.
Does it make the noise only when running on battery power or also when plugged into house current?

I want my laptop to play a sound when my battery gets to 100%. I looked in the sounds settings, but there is no event for when the battery gets to 100%. Is there a program that will let me do this, or is there a registry entry that I can edit to add the battery being charged to the system sounds list?

As the title mentioned, I have a problem with a single solitary System Event sound.

Any event that uses the "Asterisk" event does not provide any audible feedback, that is to say.. it doesn't work.

All the other System Events seem to work fine, it's just this one. I've searched and tried many solutions... but absolutely none of them worked. The audio also works fine, with all music working normally.

So far, I have attempted...

sfc /scannow
Created a new user account
Ran chkdsk
Changed system sound theme
Changed the WAV file for that event
I don't have any restore points that go back far enough

And none of those have had any effect. The Asterisk sound/event still refuses to play. Since it still doesn't work with a new user account, my only theory is that Windows... not my main account... is stuffed and will need a reinstall. Which I'd really rather NOT do just to repair a sound not playing.

Does anyone have any ideas as to why ONE sound is being affected and why NONE of the "cures" have worked for me?

Answer:One particular System Event sound not playing

How many themes have you got, each one has its own default settings.

For some reason, most of the system event sounds refuse to play when a system event occurs, and trying to test the event sounds in the Sounds tab won't play at all. However, playing audio from any other program works fine, and as far as I can tell, there are no audio driver problems.

Answer:System Event Sound Problems

When you open system sounds is the test button grayed out or is it enable an you just hear nothing

Just a quick check. Right click on Speaker in systray, lower right, and open Volume Mixer. Any chance system sounds set very low or are are muted?

Back around the first of the year I sent my xps 17 L1702x back to the depot to replace a bad motherboard. Ever since then I have noticed a buzzing sound in the speakers when the volume is half way up or louder. I can press down on the top of the hand rest area, and the buzzing stops Has anyone else experienced this problem? I would hate to have to send the computer back to the depot for this but it's driving me crazy!

I have no sound on my everex stepnote VA1500v any help out there please

Answer:no sound after changing system

I bet it is a driver issue but it may be disabled. Go to My Computer then to Control panel, in Control panel go to system then click on hardware then device manager. You will see your systems hardware listed, there should be no Yellow check marks especially by sound & video, right the sound to get properties make sure it is enabled. Then try up dating the driver which may be on the Windows disk if not go online and down load it from the manufacturers site.

Recently forced to replace fried Abit BF6 with new mobo(Tyan Trinity 400-S1854) and have this minor issue with wave sounds.

The sound card is Creative16...(old but good enough) it is an ISA card...not sharing an IRQ. The only other card is AGP GeForce2MX400.

The popping sounds(sounds like a spark) do not happen with midi sounds or CD audio.

Answer:Intermittent popping sound after wave sound event.

try turning down the master volume in the mixer, adjust the individual devices up a little or just turn the speaker volume up. Sometimes overdriving the master volume will cause pops, etc.

I just bought a Dell Studio XPS 1640. It has a blue ray player and HDMI out. I have a sony kdf-e42a10 tv, its older but has HDMI. My problem is that I cant get sound to play through HDMI. I have looked under the sound control panel and the HDMI out has a green check mark next to it. I have also tried disabling the other sound devices. The strange thing is when I go to play a blue ray movie using PowerDVD DX the sound comes out of the computer speakers but I have no control over volume or muting. It wont let me mute the sound or turn it up or down. I tried the controls on the case, the controls in PowerDVD DX, the volume control in the task bar, nothing worked.

Should I try a different program?

Any Ideas?

Do you have the correct sound driver, from Lenovo? Your System Specs only list "High Definition Audio Device" which suggests the generic, basic function, drivers that are installed by Windows. If this is the case, download and install the correct sound driver from Lenovo.

You did not list the Lenovo Model Number so I can't link you directly to the proper Lenovo driver.

Have just replace my old Hansol monitor with free standing speakes with a Iiyama Prolite E451S with integrated speakers (also a headphone socket). Sound worked fairly well on old free standing speakers but although new monitor is working perfectly, therefore I must have connected the leads properly, there is no sound on DVDs at all, whatever I do. Monitor sound menu (via button on front of screen) says Mute is activated, but Iiyama manual doesn't tell how to deactivate it. Checked that sound lead is in right sockets, and it seems to be (pale green both ends - pale green sockets monitor and processor) In computer speaker menu, all volumes are on full and mute boxes are UNchecked. Have also altered type of speakers from freestanding to integrated on speaker programme - it says please check what best describes the system. Still no sound on DVDs and mute is activated. Can anyone please tell me how do I get it working. O/S is Windows 98SE in case this matters. I'm also a 60 year old novice and need the answer to be in words of one syllable, please.Thank you very much.

I assume it could be too much for win 98, but dont know for sure.Does it give minimum requirements for monitor, it looks a bit of a beast for win 98.

Can you also post some information about current operating system? Are you using Linux, Windows, etc?

The sound on my computer has stopped working. When I went to the Sounds and Audio Devices setting the volume icon had the "no symbol" in front of it. Hello, I'm having some trouble with the sound on my laptop.  I have a HP Envy 17-3270NR.  My daughter spilled apple juice on it a while back.  I opened it up and cleaned up as much as I could, then sat it in front of a fan for a week before trying to boot it up again.  To my surprise, it worked!  In fact, there was nothing wrong with it, including the sound.  Everything worked.  Even though it was working I still felt I should open it up and give it a proper cleaning.  I'd had some overheating issues in the past and thought this would be a good opportunity to reapply thermal paste to the CPU and GPU and clean off any juice residue I'd missed.  I took it apart carefully and cleaned the motherboard with a Qtip and alcohol.  I reapplied thermal paste to the CPU and GPU, blew the dust off the fans and put it back together.  After reassembly, the mute light below the beats volume knob was lit up.  Pressing the mute button has no effect on the light, it's always lit up.  When I press the mute button, the onscreen mute indicators change but the mute light on the top cover always stays lit.  More importantly, there is no sound at all.  I've tried reinstalling the drivers.  I've tried the headphone jacks and external speakers.  Nothing has worked.  I've tried taking it apart and putting it back together a few times but no luck.  I thought maybe I messed up the routing of the r... Answer:T61 sound buttons (mute/up/down) not working at the moment...

Your question is not very clear, but I'll try to help you. I'm assuming you're talking about the volume buttons directly on the keyboard itself.  If you are talking about the green-colored volume indicators that appear on the LCD screen when you press the volume buttons on the keyboard itself, that is controlled by the Hotkey driver. You can go to this site and install the driver: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-68000.html Hope this helps. Mark

I have spectre x360. Recently I have it repaired by HP for various HW issues. (It is amazing that how much component failures you get just right after manufacturer 1 yr warranty period) Now those major issues are fixed. However, I find one of the behavior of the laptop's sound system has changed. Originally, the way my laptop worked was that even if I put the speaker on mute mode, when I connect my headphones, I could still hear sound. Then, if I disconnect the headphones speakers stay muted. I found this feature very useful. For example, in a quite library, when you listen to music and accidently pull the headphone wire off the socket, you don't disturb anyone. Now, the problem is that the headphone is muted when the speaker is muted. How can I get the original behavior back?

Has anybody else encounterd the problem where the left-channel of their sound just goes dead...and doesn't come back?

I have Windows XP SP2, ABit motherboard (Soundstorm).

I recently installed a USB-UIRT (infra red reciever), but apart from that, I haven't touched anything for at least a month. All of a sudden the left-channel just went dead - only sound comes from (you guessed it), the right channel.

I tried uninstalling/reinstalling both the unified nvidia nforce2 drivers, as well as the audio drivers - no luck.

If anybody's encountered this before, and can shed some light on what I can do to fix it, PLEASE let me know.

By the way: I've already switched speakers - they do work.
My thoughts are;
1.) Drivers are screwd - reinstall. (been there, done that)
2.) XP is messed up somehow - reinstall (urgh!!!)
3.) Physical audio-jack at the back of the M/B is damaged (i.e. I'm screwed!)

ANY help would be greately appreciated. Thanks a million!!!!

Hello! I so glad I found this forum. My first post:)

I have spent days trying to figure out why I can't get any sound from speakers. I have done the trouble shooting feature on audio and is says no fix detected (something like that) I have up loaded the reltech HD (sp) audio etc.

What I believe is the problem is my media bar is stuck on and nothing functions and the audio on the bar is stuck on mute. (I can use the slider on screen and everything is NOT muted)

Do I need a new media/strip cover? if so, how do I find a part #?

Or is it a sound ribbon I need to replace?

Thank you in advance

Hello, i have a problem with my thinkpad sl510. The mute key on the left side is getting on when windows startup logo appear. In this case I cant get some sound for example by using the loudness keys above. The only way to hear some sound is, to make a normal restart or getting into the "energy safe mode" and start again. After restart the mute key is activated too, but now I can turn on loudness by pushing the "loudness-keys" I already reinstall drivers like the hotkey-driver, realtek audio-driver, chipset-driver. I use Windows 7 Home Premium x64 Can anyone help me? I think its more a windows problem then a driver problem, but I am not sure. Kindest regards

I am having same issue discussed here: [http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=57055]

I don't get any sound unless I press mute/unmute on the top right of the keyboard. It is nothing to do with windows (windows shows sound is being transmitted). Does anyone know the fix?

Answer:No sound till I press mute/unmute

Just for better understanding:

Does it happen from time to time or, for instance, every time when you start your notebook?
When this happen can you hear sound using headphones?
Do you use original preinstalled OS that you got with your notebook?

Have you tried to update sound driver or BIOS?

A few times in this video, there are loud cheering sounds
METAGAME: MAGFest Preview - YouTube

Those are the kind of the sounds I'd like the computer to mute during.

I've tired a program called Soundlock and also windows has its own sound equalization- I've set them both on max setting and ultimately I don't want sound equalization- I just want loud sounds to be muted.

using windows 7 ultimate, when i pull the volume slider down to 0% there is still sound coming from my headset. the only way to stop the sound is to click the mute button. i have gone into the device manager and uninstalled the drivers for my onboard sound and for my ATI hdmi audio device. additionally, i don't know if it is relevant.. but the sound being produced is VERY loud. moving the volume slider up to 10+ is ear piercing loud

Hello,I have a ThinkPad T400 with Windows 10 64-bit. Everything is OK, but the ThinkVantage button works only at startup (to interrup normal start and get into the BIOS?), but in normal system interface it doesn't. The same are the volume and mute keys - keys of volume up/down works (without any indication on the screen), and the mute key mutes the sound only "inside the computer", without muting sound in Windows /this has to be done manually/.So, is there any possibility to install any drivers to make it work properly? Thanks.

Toshiba tech suggested I reinstall value pack or something, in which I did, but still no avail.
All the rest of the touch buttons work like eco etc...

Running on the standard Windows 7 and its only 24 hours old! :(

Hi!

Do really don?t find Toshiba Value Added Package?
Come on man, you have only to check the Toshiba website where you can find all drivers and tools for your notebook:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

Before you install the newest version, remove the old one first and restart the notebook. Then install the latest version form the Toshiba page.

I find that it's rather paradoxical that an iPad has a sound system that is very much louder than that of a personal computer.
What with the latter's CPU being many times the size of the iPad.
Why is this so and is there any way to improve the volume of the PC so that it can match that of the iPad?
I am using Windows 10 64bit.
Thank you.
Regards,

Answer:Personal Computer Sound System vs iPad Sound System

You're asking a very vague question. Each PC is completely different, so do you have a desktop or a laptop? Desktops normally have no speakers or a cheap one for system beeps. You can always had any type of external speakers. Laptops have built-in speakers, which can either be nice or awful. Any laptop I've ever used would trounce an iPad in volume and clarity, too. If you are using a tablet or something like a Surface, again the speakers can range from good to bad. The Surface devices have very nice speakers and would also trounce iPads.

We need much more information before we can try to give any kind of answer. Your profile says Desktop, so I am guessing you may be using one without any type of speakers plugged in?

All,

Can someone please help me figure out how to turn off the icon that suddenly started flashing randomly on the left side of my desktop? It is a box with a speaker with an "X" through it. It flashes vertically up and down the left side of my monitor.

My OS is: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Sound: Confused on this.
Speakers are: VIA High Definition Audio
Sound Card: AMD Catalyst Control
Under this Control Center, says "Audio" Default Audio Device

I was playing a game. Had it on "pause". Went back to it and hit resume with my mouse. Then this flashing mute sound box appeared.

I didn't hit any hot keys that I am aware of and the sound is still functional when I test it.

The Icon in my toolbar does not show "muted" and I have sound.

Did a System Restore. No change. This is extremely annoying.

I'm sure it's probably something simple, but I can't figure it out.

Thank you in advance for your help.

MJ

Answer:Mute Sound Icon Box suddenly flashing on desktop - can't turn off!

VIA is your regular PC sound. The AMD is ONLY for HDMI audio.

That must be something that a program, most likely the game, caused. Check the game for options.

My desktop is connected to a cable modem, and every time there is any loading/activity with my cable modem, there is a ticking sound coming through my speakers.

I am running Windows 7, and I know that you can disable the modem speaker sound with dial-up modems by selecting the dial-up modem's properties and disabling its sound. But I don't know if this can be done with cable modems.

This ticking sound can only be muted if I shut off my speakers, but I don't want to do that as it would kill all sound. Please help.

Answer:How to turn off/disable/mute cable modem speaker sound?

That sounds more like "RFI" interference from the modem getting directly into the speakers. Are you connected wired or wireless? There has also been cases of the wireless causing the noise in systems.

This is problem that just one day came into being on my laptop running Windows 7. I can't associate it with any particular update since I don't play videos or sound files frequently.

Here's what happens. Let's say I got to YouTube and play a video. The sound will work for about 30 seconds to a minute. Then it will suddenly stop. The video still plays. If I toggle mute (press it twice) or press the volume up or down, the sound comes back but it doesn't last as long. To listen to something, I have to stand ready at the volume (one click up or down) or mute (two clicks) button to press it any time the sound goes away. The same thing happens if I play an mp3 on the music player. So it's not browser plugin related. It seems either sound driver related, or even a HW issue perhaps.

I just upgraded to Windows 10, using a completely different browser and the problem is still there.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this?

Thanks

A couple of weeks ago I lost the sound on my T60 completely when visiting youtube, streaming videos etc. The sound-icon in the system-tray is no longer to be found even tough I've checed for it to show there. I have reinstalled the driver for my SoundMAX HD card, i have rebooted my system, tried to restore computer to earlier restorepoint but still no luck. When I play my music in Itunes there is no problem, but no symbols are showing on screen when I adjust the sound using the volume controls on my keyboard. Is there anyone of you that are familiar with the problem and can help me out? HELP!!

Answer:No sound when visiting websites, no icon in system-tray, sound when playing files thru itunes etc..

Welcome to the forum. One thing to check is in the control panel, sound devices, the audio tab should list what devices are being used. There is also a box where you can check to have the icon on the task bar.

I have a problem with audio on system speakers Inspiron 13 5368 2-in-1. I have exhausted all my ideas.
The audio is fine through plugged in headset but through system speakers it starts loud and fades away to very faint audio coming from two speakers.Could this be some type of Auto volume control? This problem exists with ITunes with local media, DIRECTV, Slacker, YouTube.
This has existed through several W10 upgrades. I am on the latest W10. No updates available. I have used Dell Auto Update and verified through the website no other drivers are missing or outdated
With the deal Audio I restored to default, disabled equalizer, audio and microphone enhancement. No luck
I have removed audio devices from device manager rebooted to same results. Any other ideas?

Dell Auto Update you're referring to is Dell Support Assist? If no, I suggest you diagnose Audio with Dell Support Assist. Most Dell systems have Support Assist pre-installed. You can check by typing Support Assist onto [Cortana] search box or right click windows logo and then click on 'Programs & Features'. If Support Assist isn't installed on system then I suggest you click on the link below and stroll down to 'Download Now'.

Hey guys,I just got this laptop in the mail day. Very fast and very good so far.So the first thing I did was remove all the software that came pre-installed with the comp.I pretty much uninstalled everything but the drivers and key things.Tinking that the physical buttons would still work, I rebooted the computer and the mute button, volume buttons, and ther other media buttons do not work. Keep in mind, I uninstalled everything. There are a few things I did to try to fix this.1) I re-installed onekey theater, mutesync second display control driver, and slideaNav 2.0 tool. The sliveaNav got the slide bar to glow again, but thats about it.2) Then I called tech support. I called the software option and told them I uninstalled the bloatware, and that the buttons do not work. He then transfered me to the hardware people, who after I told them that I reinstalled those programs above, I should format the OPERATING SYSTEM. Seriously, **bleep**. They then gave me a case number and eveyrthing. It's not that complicated....I dount it is a OS problem. So I know turn to you guys.... I researched that power manager helped, but thats about it...Thanks

Hi i just noticed my monitor sometimes makes a high pitch whistling soound, should i be worried?

Is it like (this might sound stupid) leaking radiation waves or something which could be dangerous to me?

Answer:My monitor makes a sound!?!!?!

This is very common on all TVs and also large-screen monitors. The integrated high-voltage transformer (IHVT) has windings that are laminated in place under the black surface skin. Through age, heat, and vibration, the laminations deteriorate. What you get are 15KH noises that a lot of peoplecan't even hear. The reason you hear it coming and going is that different brightness [settings] require different currents through the transformer, [which] causes the laminates to start singing. You need a new IHVT.

This sound usually indicates that the monitor is on its way to equipment failure. I believe that a new or refurbished monitor is your best option, unless by chance, your monitor is still under warranty.

For your safety i would like to note......Do not open the monitor!
Computer monitors are a prime example of hardware that should be serviced only by qualified technicians. The electricity that builds up inside these units can kill you, plain and simple. Furthermore, even unplugged, monitors pose a serious threat; it can take days for the electric charge to dissipate from within one.

I suspect this is a hard drive idling. I have Win8.1 installed on one HD and opensuse on another HD. When I am using the Win8.1, sometimes I get a hissing sound from the case. The sound that the hardware makes when I shutdown the system, except there is no shutdown, no error, no flickering of the screen.

I see a lot of threads on other forums suggesting that this is a PSU issue. I hope that my brand new Corsair is not to blame. The last reply on this page suggests that it is the secondary drive shutting down to conserve energy. I would be perfectly fine with that but is there any case that going on-off it damages the drive? Should I cut the power to the drive completely?

Answer:PC makes shutdown sound

HI Sailor, long time not chat.

I would check in the power options and set the HDDs to always on (especially if a desktop PC) and location is Control Panel\Hardware and Sound\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings

Then scroll down the list to Hard Drives and set to always on > apply and reboot and test.

Welcome to Tech Support Guy

The first thing is to download and install SP3 as soon as possible
Support for XP with SP2 has finished and did so on July 13 2010
That means that no security updates etc have been offered to you since then

You may well find that SP3 will solve the issue for you

As you cannot of course connect you have two choices - one sort out the connection
1. If it is the wireless that will not connect - connect it hard wired from the ethernet port on the laptop
Also ensure that wireless is stwiched on on the Dell - usually Fn plus an F key

I know it says do not use on one computer but it will still work and t MAY solve the connection problem for you

3. If you are on broadband and you refer to the modem, as the modem/router provided by the ISP eg BT etc then it does not make a sound
If you refer to the modem in the computer that WAS used for a dial up connection and is not used on broadband
The computer has a modem port where a telephone line was connected for dialup and a ethernet connection I would think, where the line is connected for broadband from the modem/router provided by your ISP BT etc

YOU MUST not connect to the wrong port on the laptop

Can anybody help???

I have a Toshiba Equium A110, my sound seems to have, well, gone...... I can hear system sounds, but nothing else, and the volume icon has disappeared from my tool bar.

I have done everything I can think of in the control panel, but all of the volume/sound control elements within the control panel are greyed out, so I can't re-instate my sound icon, or adjust volume, or anything!!

I have installed updates, and done just about everything as recommended in the help section, which was not very helpful!

I am a bit of a computer idiot, so if anybody can help, please keep it simple!!

Many, many thanks

LAS

Answer:Equium A110: Sound is gone - only system sound appears

Hello Las

If you have no much experience, try simply to roll back OS to earlier time. Maybe it will help to solve this problem. It is very easy to do:

Start > All programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore. Choose option ?Restore my computer to an earlier time?. Please choose some bold date on the calendar and follow the instructions on the screen.

Hello,

I am having distortion issues with my HP Pavilion ze4547wm laptop.

My audio from the laptop speakers seems to sound good, but when I plug the laptop into my home sound system, my music sounds very basse and distorted.

I checked the device manager, but the sound card( ALi Audio Wave ) seems to be working properly

The same with the codecs, or do I have too many? IMA ADPCM Audio Codec
Microsoft ADPCM Audio Codec
Microsoft CCITT G.711 Audio Codec
Microsoft GSM 6.10 Audio Codec
DSP Group TrueSpeech(TM) Audio Codec
msg723.acm
Windows Media Audio Codec
Sipro Lab Telecom Audio Codec
Fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec
Microsoft PCM Converter

Thanks for your attention to this matter. I use this laptop at youth sporting events for sound effects and music.

Answer:Distorted sound from laptop to External sound system

make sure you've plugged from laptops line out not headphone out
if this is not available turn the volume out on laptop down

Hi!

I have a P100-347 and a logitech 5.1 sound system.
The logitech 5.1 has 3 connection: 1 to be plugged to the Line-In, the other to be connected to the Line-out and the 3rd to be connected to the Microphone socket.
When using it on my desktop which has a random SIS sound card it works fine.

Yesterday I've connected it to the P100-347 but I only get sound from the Line-out socket. I have changed the sound preferences to 5.1 but it makes no difference... I only get sound from the Line-out. Is there any drivers update that I should do or is anyone aware of this and how can I fix it??

Just one more thing... With the laptop came this cd "Express Media Player Recovery CD", what is this? Is this something to be installed after runing the "Product Recovery CD" in order to install some drivers or whatever is in this cd comes with the Product Recovery CD as well? Does anyone knows?

Thank you.

Answer:I get only sound from left with 5.1 sound system on Satellite P100

Hi

There is no problem. As you said the notebook supports Line-in; headphone & S/PDIF jack and Microphone jack.

If you want to connect the HiFI or another device you have to choose the headphone & S/PDIF jack. Only this port provides the audio outputting.

The both another jacks provide only the function for signal (sound) receiving!

My notebook provides the same jacks and I have connected the notebook to HiFI (5 speakers) via Y-audio cable like this one:

Hi,
I just spent a lot of time on the am I infected forum cleaning up some infections that I had. I am clean now (the person who helped me said so) but in the process of cleaning my computer, I encountered a new problem: no system sound. The person who helped me did not know how to fix this, so he suggested I go to the vista forum to get specialized help.

Here is what has happened:
-I get no system sounds i.e. no startup sounds etc. I manually tried to open the .wav files in the media folder in windows and I got an error saying the file could not be opened.
- I also do not get any sound from onlline video sites like Youtube.
-However, I am able to play songs and other music through media player.

I have done many obvious things to correct this:
-Made sure computer was not on mute
-Installed latest Flash player version
-Tried different browsers (Chrome, IE8 and Firefox)
-Reinstalled my Realtek audio drivers
-Rolledback drivers

But nothing seems to work.

Here is my system information:
- HP Pavilion dv6000 laptop
-Windows Vista Home premium SP2

Can somebody help me?Thanks!

Hello I have a suggestion. Try using a older system restore point, unles you reset them after the malware fix, then there aren't any olg ones..Next try the Codec repair here. Fix Windows No System Sound .Your repair starts here... using a tool built into K-Lite Codec Pack

I have given up on getting a good 5.1 or 7.1 sound system for my pc since it requires a receiver and all.

What I am looking for right now is a 2.1 sound system that can be directly plugged in to my Asus Xonar D2X sound card. The system should have a really decent subwoofer with tight and deep bass. As for the speakers, they should be able to produce crisp sound at high volume.

My current sound system can no longer handle high pitch sound without the buzzing
I am no expert in this matter, but I've been looking around a lot with no luck.
No real budget limitation, if its worth it I will get it

Thanks in advance,
Sylo

Answer:Audiophile 2.1 sound system for Xonar D2X sound card.

You could look at something from Audioengine, M-Audio, or the Klipsch 2.1 system. Read plenty of reviews though. I know you want 2.1, but if I were buying now I'd probably go with the M-Audio Studiophile AV 40.

My 2 cents.
