I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Good day,

I'm using a fairly new HP Mini netbook and ever since I got it I have this problem of low volume in plugged in headphones and speakers. The netbook speakers themselves are pretty fantastic, but if I plug in headphones or speakers, it seems that the computer lowers the volume substantially to the point that I can't even use speakers for listening to music or watching movies (on full blast, you might be able to make out speech on a film for example, but not from very far away; that's how low the volume is).

I've gone through everything I can think of, checked all the various levels in the volume mixer and audio hardware options, made sure everything is to the max, re-installed my IDT High Definition Audio CODEC driver, all with no results. I also have tried out the speakers both with the Loudness Equalization feature enabled and disabled with no noticeable effects. I've also tested the computer with different sets of headphones/speakers and so it must be some properties of the computer that are the issue here.

I appreciate your help.

Sincerely Wulfrich

Answer:Extremely low volume in headphones/speakers

Welcome Wulfrich to SF,
When you insert the headphones and or external speakers the main speakers are supposed to mute.

Under the volume mixer, it shows "Speakers and Headphones (IDT High Definition Audio CODEC). Everytime I plug in my headphones after listening to the speakers a bit loudly, the headphones still have the same volume as the speakers did, making the headphones blare very loudly. I want to figure out how to separate the speakers and headphones' volume control so that when I plug in my headphones, it'll have a different, lower volume than the speakers did (my desktop computer does that). Please help, thank you.

Hi, I`ve updated my t440p to windows 10. And one of the many issues is autoswitching of headphones and speaker volumes. In windows 7, when I plugged my headphones volume level was automatically changed. For example, for speakers volume level is 0 and for headphones is 60 and, if I plugged headphones volume level was 60 and when I unplugged vol. level was 0 accordingly. But it doenst work in windows 10. Can it be fixed? Thank you for helping.

Does anyone know how to fix the audio on a Win 7 machine? I have no sound on my speakers or with my headphones. I have powered the system off and back on with no success. I have looked in my services and do not see any audio services running or stopped. (not sure what to look for there anyways) I have unplugged the speakers and plugged them back into a different USB port with no success. Headphones not functional in the only place I can plug them in.

I appreciate any help you can give.

Thank you

The other day I realized when listening to audio that the volume on the left side was significantly lower through the headphones on my U400. I checked and this problem also exists through the computer speakers. It does not appear to be a problem when I tried it using the hdmi port to my TV as a test.I've played with every audio setting I could find in Windows 10 and have uninstalled and reinstalled numerous audio or audio-related drivers. I've also tried different audio programs (iTunes, Skype, Media Player, etc.). Nothing seems to have had much effect on the issue. I've tried settings such as the volume equalization, changing the balance settings, disabling and enabling enhancements. The only thing that appears to somewhat address the issue is when I lower the volume on the headphones (with the volume control on the headphone set). At some point that seems to allow both sides to be equal, but the volume is much lower than I'd like. Any thoughts as to what the problem might be related to would be much appreciated. I find it interesting that the problem doesn't appear (to me) to be related to the external jack because the same problem occurs with the computer speakers. However, there is no problem as far as i can hear when I use the digital hdmi connection. Thanks

I'm getting only minimal sound from the internal speakers of my Latitude E6420. The volume is very low, even though it's set to the highest level. Also, the sound is tinny. It's similar to what you hear from headphones at a distance, like when someone near you is listening to headphones at a high volume, or if you take off your headphones while the audio is still playing.

Whenever I listen with headphones, the sound is great, but with the internal speakers the audio is practically nonexistent.

I've set the internal speakers as my default speakers, I've adjusted the loudness equalization, and I've reinstalled the audio drivers. I've even tried wiggling a toothpick inside the speaker jack, but nothing has resolved this issue.

Can anyone help?

Answer:Very low and tinny volume from internal speakers, but headphones work

Are you using the IDT driver from Dell? If not, here is the link to the Win 7 64 bit driver
Product Support | Dell US

Could be the speaker connection is bad (need reseated?). The speakers are connected by a plug in connector according to what I find in the Dell manual. That would be my "best guess" as the problem. Reseating the connector (unplug then plug back in) would be a good first start. Looks sort of complicated though.
Here is the Dell manual and it details how to access it.

Bought a G510 (59411985) a couple the other week and just tried to listen to music in heaphones. The volume is (in my mind) extremely low even with iTunes and the system volume at the highest volume. Have been browsing threads on here where one suggest open the Smart Audio application and raise the levels on the "mixer", but my version only seems to have volume levels for headphones and mic, and the headphone level is already max. A suggestion from the Smart Audio help section talks about disabling the factory set headphone limiter /depending on the system, but I can't find where I do that. Btw, that Smart Audio interface is probably the ugliest one I've seen.

I'm not sure if this happened with 5.55, but with 5.56, when I hit the volume up or down on my keyboard to turn the sound down for everything, it turns down winamp's volume bar too. Sometimes I can move winamp's volume bar up and down and it won't even be working. What causes this? It's pretty annoying for the music to turn down twice as fast or winamp's volume bar to not even work at all.EDIT: Moved to a more appropriate forum

Are you plugging in the headset to a "headset" jack on the speakers? More on exactly how you are doing it.

Second, AMD High Definition Audio Device is NOT your PC's sound device. The AMD is for HDMI audio.

Your PC sound card would be something such as "RealTek", "Conexant" or similar.

Greetings, I recently purchased a pair of Phillips SHP2500 headphones. I do not have a headphone jack available on the speakers, so I plugged them directly into the sound card. Problem is, the volume is relatively low even when everything's maxed out. This might occur because of the fact that I have an onboard sound card (biostar a880g), I'm not sure. I'm using Realtek HD drivers and W7 32 bit. Hope you can help me

Answer:Low volume when using headphones

I've been having headphone issues with my new Dell, and discovered there are ton of places that sound controls hide.

If you left-click volume in the system tray and get the volume meter, did you click on Mixer to be sure that nothing is muted in there?

If you right-click the same icon and choose Sound, you can get to all of the sound tabs. I would think you need a "headphones" item in Playback. If you don't have one (I didn't) you can add it by following instructions that I got here:
The Well-Tempered Computer
Scroll down to Drivers and he tells you how to replace your sound drivers.
System: Make a restore point so you can roll back
Device manager: deinstall and remove the driver
Programs - remove the driver if needed
Reboot and Win7 installs the MS High Def Audio Device.
For me, that replaced my Conextant drivers with the Win7 drivers, and my system at least now knows that I have headphones. And sounds just as good.

I also found that the Properties for each device contains a Levels tab which was low and in some cases muted by default on my system.

Hope that helps

Hi! I have a Lumia 535 phone running Windows 8.1. The phone plays audio normally through the speakers, but when I plug in my headphones, notifications remain loud, but my music through the music app or through Spotify are really quiet; so quiet that I can barely hear them even at volume 30. If anyone could offer any suggestions that would be great.
Turning the phone off and on again doesn't work, increasing the app volume before plugging the headphones in doesn't work. I have no equaliser settings on.
As an aside: some people online say they have a setting called Audio Levelling which I don't have (but my phone says the software is up to date). I don't know if this is important.

Answer:Why is music volume low through headphones?

Worth trying the audio levelling - go to settings > audio > audio levelling and flick it off and see if it makes a difference. Otherwise, you can try a soft reset (holding power+volume down until the phone vibrates and reboots).

Running Windows 8.1 64-bit

The volume is too low when using headphones. I've tried earbuds and two different types of over-ear headphones, both with no result. Desktop volume is set to maximum, as is iTunes and VLC.
I also have DTS enabled, which has slightly boosted the volume, but it's still too quiet.

Google search has suggested something called "Loudness Equalisation" (Playback devices > Properties > Enhancements > Loudness Equalization), which seems to be the generally accepted solution to the problem, but this hasn't helped me at all.

I'm a music student who does a fair bit of audio processing so having good sound is important to me, and this is driving me insane, does anyone have any suggestions?

Answer:Satellite L50-A - headphones volume is too low

Huh it is really difficult to say what is wrong there. As far as I know there is no big difference in way how it works with internal speakers or connected headphones/headset.

I have two Toshiba notebooks and there is absolutely no any kind of difference. When I change sound level it reacts as usual, no matter if headphones are connected or not.
When you start certain application open volume mixer and check if sound level is identical with sound level for speakers.

I've been experiencing issues with low volume on/off since migrating to Windows 7 as well as overall poorer sound quality it doesn't feel rich in bass and sound quality. I'm not an expert but I get much fuller sound when connecting headphones to different devices then when playback is through headphones on Widows 7.

I never experienced these issues with Windows XP. It is highly annoying and sound quality through speaker playback seems absolutely fine. I've tried searching for solution on Google which it seems to be a common problem but haven't came across a solution.

Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate
Headphones: Logitech Ultimate Ears 400vi (In-Ear)
Speakers: Logitech Z906 (5.1)
Audio Driver: Realtek High Definition Audio 2.71 Vista
Equalizer: SRS Audio Sandbox v1.10.2.0
Music Genres: Trance and 2Pac
I have tried playing around with SRS and can usually tweak it to satisfaction but recently I find I need to keep adjusting/trying out different presets etc due to the on/off experiencing issues with volume. Any help with resolve would be great as 90% of the time I use headphones and it really lacks the fullness.. even when turning the volume high up

Edit: I don't experience no crackle or distortions just really lacks fullness.. especially as my headphones are In-Ear you really expect fullness. I'm not the type that loves loud music but the overall quality just lacks

I've got an HP Pavilion dv6736nr with Vista Home Premium Service Pack 1 and whenever I use headphones on it, regardless of the media player or the headphones the volumes in my music are equalized, the soft parts are just as loud as the loud parts, the loud parts are just as soft as the soft parts. This of course totally ruins the songs. This also includes system sounds. Anytime there's a click sound, warning, or what have you any other sounds or music running gets dampened to equalize the volume. Is there anyway to turn this off? I'd like to listen to my music the way it's supposed to sound.

Hey guys first time poster.

I have read lots of info on similar problems but never managed to sustain an answer that was relevant to me. I bought new headphones, which are clearly meant for other use than listening through a laptop, but anyway. The problem is in the title as it where. Ive seen lots of people babble on about realtek audio drivers, but suffice to say the only info i have about my sound card is thats its a High Defintion Audio Device Driver. I know computers a bit, but im also a bit of a moron.
Anyhoo, is there and solution to go into the driver and enable it to be configured as headphones(i heard that somewhere) as speakers is the only option there. Or is it simply just to fork out on a new sound card, or even better a new pissing laptop!

So i have read that back and it is very cluttered heh, but if anyway can understand my half English i would be very much obliged.

They work for gaming/music/videos, but they could definitely use some more volume to actually hear their expensive sound. Games are a bit too quiet to get that "atmospheric" feel - I may as well be wearing some $10 headset from the bargain bin. (these cost me almost $100)

I have no experience with electronics - any software programs that can increase game or Windows volume past its max for headphones?

Every so often I just listen to my music (iTunes) and the sound becomes ridiculously low. Even if I turn up my speakers to max, I can barely here the music. I make sure the sound on my computer is also turned up. The only way to fix this is to restart the computer.

This doesn't occur too much, but I would just like to know why this happens. It's pretty annoying

I use SoundMAX and Windows XP.

Answer:Sound Volume Becomes Extremely Low

Are you turning the speakers up using a volume control on the speakers -- or from the volume control options on the computer?

When this kind of thing happens to me, it is either because the physical connection of the speaker plug is dirty or not well seated -- or I have used some application in which the sound configuration was reset and not returned to its previous setting when closing the application. Effects on the "wav" volume control are usually the culprit here.

Once in a while for unknown reasons the sound will not reach its proper setting unless I actually open the sound properties for the sound card and then it kicks in.

Hi, One thing can help is the following.  Right click the speaker icon in the Taskbar and select 'Playback Devices'.  Left click the default device once to highlight it ( it's usually 'speakers & headphones' ) then click the Properties button.  Click the Enhancements tab and put a tick in the box next to 'Loudness Equalization'.  Click Apply to save the change and then click OK in all remaining windows and see if this has helped at all. Regards, DP-K

I have a Toshiba Satellite A300D and I was listening to music through the inbuilt speakers and the volume seemed to be going low-high-low-high (Like a pulse)

It's not that noticible but now I know about it.
I'm getting quite irritated with it. (I'm playing music through iTunes)

Also, this also happens when I use headphones, and when I play through external speakers.

Does anyone have any ideas about how to fix this issue?

The multimedia button/music player button on the notebook itself opens Windows Media Player.

Does anyone know how to change that to iTunes?

Answer:Satellite A300D sound volume goes low-high-low-high

Did you notice this playing the music with MS Media Player, Win Amp or other applications?
Did you notice this without installation of 3rd party software like iTunes for example?

To be honest I never heard about such issue and I think this could be related to the 3rd party software preinstalled don your notebook.

> The multimedia button/music player button on the notebook itself opens Windows Media Player.
>Does anyone know how to change that to iTunes?

As far as I know this is not possible. I use my buttons wit Winamp because I could enable this in WinAmp software but it?s not known to me that a iTunes software would supports such extension too.

Hi all,

Running Windows 7 64-bit (up-to-date) on an Acer Aspire 6930G here with RealTek HD audio (driver up-to-date). When I plug in my headphones, I'd like the sound level to be low (around 2 or 3), but when using the built-in laptop speakers the volume needs to be at around 50.

Is there any way to make the volume behave the same way it does on an iPhone or iPod Touch when plugging in headphone?

For example: When you plug in your headphones in an iPod Touch, you can set the volume to, say 50%. Now when you unplug your headphones you can change the volume level to 100%, now when you plug in your headphones again the volume will be 50% again.

Sorry if this question has been answered before, I've tried the search function, but did not find the answer.

Thanks in advance ,

Hi qwaszxqwaszx welcome to Seven Forums.

I must admit, I am not familiar with the Realtek sound program, as I use the default Windows one.

However, on my machine at least, when I click the "volume" icon on the bottom right hand corner (next to the clock) it remember's different settings for headphones and speakers, the two are completely independent. Is this not the case for you?

Whenever I plug the headphones into the jack on my PC or remove them the volume changes to 67 everytime.

It doesn't matter what headphones I use it always happens.

This through my speakers , i plug my headphones through the audio jack on the "SoundForce Vivo 2.1" by Trust company

Things i have tried:-

Updating drivers (there is none for my speakers)
updated system (onboard) sound card drivers.
all my lines in/out are at max volume
all my system volumes and system tray volumes are at maximum

the sound plays back just very low, i have to turn my speakers up full on the volume dial for any form of playback.

any solutions or suggestions? :S

EDIT: Also i have tried plugging my headphones into the rear audio jack and removing my speakers (frustrating at the least) but low playback through that entrance as well.

EDIT 2: I have an Acer Aspire M1640 running Windows 7 Premium

I just installed 7 64-bit from Vista 32-bit on my Dell Vostro 1500. 7 automatically supported my Sigmatel sound card with Microsoft's High Definition Audio Device driver; Dell Support don't have any compatible audio drivers for my new OS.

Sound works well through the speakers, but when plugging in headphones into the jack, the system's volume jumps to a different value - usually to a higher level when lower beforehand, and vice versa. Upon removing the heaphones, the volume returns to its original value.

Is there anything I can do to keep the volume constant?

Answer:Volume jumps when plugging in headphones

Hi wassupjg and welcome to Windows 7 Forums

Did you have the same behaviour when you had Vista? I suspect that it is a driver issue. The MS drivers are OK, but they only provide basic functionality. Other features, such as equalisers, etc, are only available by using device-specific drivers.

I have tried many things to resolve but nothing has worked very well although I have seen best results using 16 bit, 44k to 48k sample rate, and I couldnt see in vid but if you have a digital output in playback tab leave it enabled and unmuted with speakers..., and in recording tab only have microphone and stereo mix enabled, disable the rest. also under communications tab change it to 'do nothing' option... I have found the front panel jack outputs much louder volume but doing that I dont beleive it takes advantage of the op amp in my xonar dsx sound card ... im still searching for a complete fix for this problem though.. hope this helps a bit atleast

I usually have my headphones at 14 or 12, because the volume is very loud in them. However, I'm fine with this.
Today, I went to watch a video and I couldn't hear anything. I looked at my headphones, turned them up to 100, and I could then hear it. When my headphones are at 100 now, it's like when they were at 12 before. Is there any way I can make it so that whatever volume 100% currently is could be set to 12%?

Answer:Headphones volume suddenly decreased?

Hello Alpha mate what are you driving the phones from - the board? if so have you checked the drivers are up to date an d have you checked the sound in the notification area of the taskbar and in Control Panel.

Just sounds (no pun ) simple but have you tried cleaning the jack contacts too?

Hey so I have (what I think) is a basic question.

I listen to the radio on my work computer.
What I am trying to do is have it so the volume is on mute all the time, but when I plug in my headphones it un-mutes. Then if the cord comes out by accident it goes to mute without playing any sound.

I hope this makes sense and that someone can help.
It is a realtek audio, and I am using the front audio port (if that matters).

Answer:How do I make my volume mute when my headphones come out?

To the best of my knowledge, there is no function for this native in windows. This function does exist in things like iPods via programming.

I recently purchased Plantronics .Audio 355

I am having an issue with the volume. There's a volume adjuster on my headset, but when I turn it all the way down, I can still hear sound? The only way to completely get rid of the sound is by turning it all the way down in the volume control options. I'm wanting to be able to adjust the volume FULLY with my headset itself. (sync issue? not sure)

I've been searching around the internet but haven't found anything. Hopefully one of you can be some help. Thanks!

Answer:Headphones volume is turned all the way down, however I can still hear

Does it not have a mute button you could also use?

Whenever I insert headphones, even if the volume was at 30/30, it immediately decreases to zero, I therefore cant play music through the headphones. I also cannot increase the volume as long as the headphones are inserted. I have tried restarting the phone but it didn't help.

Answer:Why does my volume decrease to zero when I insert my headphones?

may be due to some hardware problem or the headset is not sitting right into the phone

EDIT: I just found out that this is most likely because my driver thinks the speakers are plugged in and lowers the sound. I tried on another computer, once in the speaker jack (it was low), then in the headphone jack (it was high). Would it work if I made the speaker jack a headphone jack by remapping the outputs in the registry?

Hi there! I recently upgraded my motherboard to an ASRock 960GM/U3S3 FX and did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate x64.

After installing all the drivers, I noticed that my sound was playing extremely low in my headphones (I don't have speakers). I did not have that problem with my old motherboard. When I open the volume control, the meter is at maximum but the green line only jolts up a little bit.

I should also mention that I plug my headphones in the rear green jack. There are 3 audio jacks on my back panel (blue line-in, green line-out, red mic-in). There are no audio jacks on my front panels (the jacks are there, but are not and will not be plugged in my motherboard). On my last motherboard I just plugged my headphones in the rear green jack and everything worked fine.

My headphones are recognized by Realtek and Windows as speakers, perhaps because they are plugged in the rear jack instead of the front jack. Not sure if this is related to my problem. I'm pretty sure the same thing applied on my last motherboard.

What I already tried:

- Reinstalling driver directly from my motherboard's site, then from Realtek directly.
- Adjusting meter... Read more

Answer:Volume extremely low, found no fix via google

The rear speaker jack (Green) or the front panel heardphone jacks are basically the same thing. There is no danger in connecting the front panel headphone (and mic) jacks to the motherboard. If your case has an HD Audio connector use that, otherwise the older AC97 will work (but there won't be some auto sensing as there is with the HD Audio Connector).

The "Speakers" (the RealTek sound) is the proper default audio playback device. However, you should be using the AS Rock supplied RealTek drivers as non-vendor drivers many times will not work or work correctly. I just built a new system using an ASRock Z77 Professional motherboard. After installing Windows 7, I installed all the drivers on the ASRock supplied CD.

Check the Recording section of the Sound Panel, the "System Mixer" should be set as the default audio playback device. If it is not set, do that and then see if that makes any difference in sound level.

Also, in the Playback section of the Sound Panel, click the "configure" button and set the speaker type for "Stereo" and test the "speakers" (your headset) there to see how the sound is.

Okay, I've had my ThinkPad W510 for a few weeks now and besides having issues with the slice battery I bought for it which suddenly started working I haven't had much issues with it. But the other day I tried watching Family Guy Season 9 on it and I find the audio volume being the weakest on any notebook I've owned ever. Period. It's about half of what my T400s managed, and it's not even remotely close to other laptops like MacBook Pro, even low cost notebooks like Acer Aspire and Acer TimelineX got better audio output than mine W510? It's like I really need to concentrate if I want to watch anything on it, and this is in the middle of the night when there is barley any other sounds around in the room?  I've seen reports of the Conexant driver being sluggish and all that, I've tried to "disable all enhancements" from the SmartAudio driver, I even tried rolling back to the default Windows7 audio driver but the volume output is downright disgraceful. Just to top it all the speakers tend to how this high pitched clicking sound going from time to time, it seems completely random but it's still very annoying. If I hook up a pair of Koss Porta Pro I get somewhat normal sound with okay volume and no irritating pitching every now and then..

Answer:Extremely low audio volume on the W510?

Frankly speaking, ThinkPad W510 speakers or/and it's Conexant sound chip/driver is mediocre. It seems that it is a design fault or Lenovo is trying to save that small amount of additional cost for each of the component so that they can earn more. I used an T400 loaner set before, the speaker and the Conexant SmartAudio was as great or better than my Dell Studio 15.
I am not sure what the heck, Lenovo Research & Development department is doing to make W510 sound mediocre. As an end-user and W510 a mobile workstation, I would also expect the speaker/sound chip to be better than T400.
I have contacted the Lenovo Service Center, they said the final version of the driver is under testing and has not been released to their support website. But I think the soft audio volume problem could never be resolved unless Lenovo would release another version of internal speaker, but not possible as a refreshed version of W-series is coming up next year. (eg. W520)

Hello, I have just reformatted my Acer Aspire 5920 laptop to its factory default settings and now my microphone output levels are not working properly.

I had to download audio drivers after reformatting because there was no sound output at all, but I did that and have the audio output working fine now. It's just the mic that I'm having the problem with, and I'm wondering how to get it back to the way it was before the reformat.

I have been using the built-in mic on my laptop perfectly fine for about a year so I know it isn't broken. I use Skype nearly every day and need this to work again.

The input levels of the mic when I speak into it are extremely low, with next to know sound being detected. When doing sound recrodings I can't hear anything. When doing test calls on Skype, it says it can't detect any sound. And when it does, it is extremely low. Configuring the mic settings for speech recognition on my computer also doesn't detect any sound.

I have looked at all of the sound and volume settings on my computer and the mic is NOT muted, and its volume is at maximum. Mic boosts also don't seem to help it at all.

I'm stumped as to what to try next. I've tried downloading Realtek drivers and installing them but they don't seem to do anything. The mic levels remain as they were. I have also tried using a desktop mic that goes into the mic jack, but it's exactly the same. So it's something that needs to be fix... Read more

Answer:Why is the maximum volume on my headphones so low with my Nokia 1020?

1) What headphones are you using?
2) Check if headphones are faulty on something else i.e Laptop, speaker, Hi-Fi system
3) Check jack is faulty with other pair of headphones tested (as above) and thus verified to be working correctly.

I have a dell windows 8.1. Everything has been fine for a long time and now... no sound. I must admit to never really understanding how sound works on my laptop. After some fiddling around I managed to get some sound - but only when speakers are plugged into the headphone socket. Now my PC controls make no difference to the volume. I think the ss below suggests that I want the sound to go through the 'speakers headphones' but the sound level meter says its using the communications headphones.
This is what I have for my sound card.

The same happens when I stream audio - only works if headphones connected and no control over the column from pc.

Lastly, when I right click on the top one and click test it says 'failed to play test tone'

Can anyone help please?

Many thanks

Answer:sound only works with headphones - no control over volume

The first thing I see is you do not have the correct sound driver. You only have the generic, basic function, Windows installed High Definition Audio Codec (Driver).

First step is to install the correct hardware sound driver. Not enough system spec's provided so I can't research what you need. If its a factory built PC, go to the PC vendor and download the Win 8.1 driver. If its custom built, go to the motherboard vendor for the driver.

I get sound ok when the headphones when they're plugged in, but the Soundblaster volume control does nothing. The system volume control, and WMP volume controls work fine on the headphones. It's just the controls on the Soundblaster that have no effect on the headphones.

You need to re-install the sound drivers
I couldn't find the exact drivers, except for a page here:

If it is an addon sound card just search and download from the manufacture
If it is intergrated into your computer, just search your motherboard drivers

Can't find a toggle for this anywhere.  Nothing in the user guide.  Uninstalled Realtek driver, not a help.  Reinstalled Realtek driver, same problem. Went to the Realtek Audio Manager and 'Device Advanced Settings' merely has an option for recording devices (to tie them up or separate them, but recording only).  Nowhere in the manager is there anything about headphones.  Nor in the Control Panel. How the heck to I turn the main volume off when the headphones are plugged in?  Not much use in using headphones (usually) otherwise! Thanks.

I recently updated my Bios, and now I get this nasty high pitched whine from my PC speakers and Headphones.

However, it has some triggers.

If the computer isn't doing anything and I am not touching the mouse, the sound is barely audible. Yet, as soon as I move the mouse it comes in and out as the mouse moves.

Similarly, if I open an internet window of a program the whine gets persistent and will not go away until I close the web browser.

System spec's:
Asus P6T Deluxe V2
ATI Radeon 4870 X2 HD
Core i7 920
Windows Vista 64

I have had this computer for a while and no such problem until I updated the Bios in an effort to fix an issue with CoD:MW2 (Which I am beginning to regret buying)

So for the past few days, whilst watching youtube or playing a video game, I have noticed that my computer's sound has bounced from normal volume to extremely low. Nothing seems to effect it, as it does it randomly. I have changed out wires, and speakers (I only have my center speaker hooked up as I am moving soon and didn't want to wire up the entire room). It is not the speaker, the wire from the computer to the amp, or from the amp to the speaker. Now the sound seams to be stuck at the low volume, and I can only hear the bass unless I turn the volume up- in which case it sounds fuzzy. JVL audio wave series HD 707

Can you try a headset, in the front panel headset jack, and/or the rear GREEN speaker jack to see if the problem is also with a headset or if it is working OK with a headset.

Why there is no possibility to control the headphones volume separately? I risk my ears (seriously) every time I use headphones, because of the low speakers efficiency...

Any suggestion ?

To be honest I don't understand your problem. You can control volume level using F9 and F10 keys or using Windows volume mixer.

Reduce volume level before you connect headphones and speaker and I hope there will no be any risk for your ears. ;)

The volume of audio in my headphones is very low, even when it is set to maximum on the audio controls, in the app I am using (tried Spotify and YouTube videos) and on maximum when you open the volume mixer.  It is almost like there is a governor on the sound, because (i) I do not have this issue when I use the headphones with other devices, and (ii) the green audio bar in the volume mixer will only go up to about 60% of the maximum volume even though it is set to 100%.  Frustrating.

Bit of a weird one here...within the last week - I installed a fresh copy of Win 7 x64 SP1 on a new office workstation. I am using the Logitech K800 keyboard and J.River Media Center for media playback.

NOTE: I am using the Gigabyte EP45-UD3R motherboard and it's onboard Realtek Azalia HD audio chip. I am NOT using the Realtek drivers (more on that in a moment) - I am using the built in Windows 7 HD Audio drivers.

Long story short - I discovered some conflicts with the internals of the motherboard where the front panel headphone jack of my case (Antec P182) would exhibit static in the phones if moving the mouse on screen. Traced that to some weird issue with the USB ports so I had to install a separate front panel insert into the case and attached JUST the audio cable so I could get static free headphone listening.

Now the issue. When using J.River Media Center (and WASAPI Event Style from within Media Center) and I select "speakers" under it's Device Output area - I am able to use the Mute, Volume Up and Volume Down hot keys on the K800 to control the audio level that comes from the speakers.

But - if I change the Device Output to Headphones - using the exact same audio device - suddenly the three audio buttons (upper right of the keyboard by the Calculator button) suddenly do not work.

Couple things - I cannot recall in any previous build whether or not these button were working or not OR if I just decided to try them for the first time with headp... Read more

Answer:Volume controls on K800 Keyboard do not work with Headphones

In most cases the vendor's (Gigabyte ) sound driver should be used. The Windows installed HD Audio Codec are a "basic function" sound driver.

I would start with the proper sound driver and work from that. If the Antec front panel headphone/mic connection has an HD Audio connector use that, otherwise use the AC97 however that may be some auto detect functions that won't work.

I've had a problem like this before. My problem the first time was that was that one of the bars in playback control were all the way down.(If you click on the speaker in your task bar then open volume control.) The second time was when i was in the same thing in playback control click on advance in the volume section then uncheck the digital output only then my speakers worked. I used to have a HP Pavilion 6553C which came bundled with a Pavilion M50 monitor with mounted Polk Audio speakers. My hard drive was acting up (OS 98SE) so I bought a Compaq Presario SR 1620NX (OS XP) and my other components, HP Office Jet T45, multimedia keyboard and the display on the monitor all work fine. However I can only get system sounds from my speakers (windows boot & exit, etc). I can't play a CD or an MP3 no matter which media player I choose. If I turn the volume up as high as it will go and put my ear to the speaker, I can faintly hear it. Is there a driver or something I can download so they will be compatible? I figured since HP owns Compaq, there wouldn't be a problem and customer support has been of no help.

Answer:No volume from speakers

To be honest, that really sounds like you have it plugged into the wrong port. I don't mean to cause any offense. Those speakers, unless USB, are dumb output devices. They don't have any driver, or plug and play capability. They merely output the analog or digital signal.

I tried turning up all the volume on the desktop and on the RealTek HD sound manager but did not help. Microphone is working perfectly fine as I can hear myself well on the speakers.

Normally, with my old laptop (M30 series) I could use the Sound Recorder to record music which I play using Winamp or WinMediaPlayer but for this new laptop it does not detect any sound at all..just silence.

Please advise.

Answer:Satellite A100-532: microphone sound volume is extremely low

You should check also the volume controls in the "Sound & Audio devices" in control panel.
In the "Volume" tab please go to "Advanced".
Then a "Volume control" should appear.
Check if all controls are set to high level.
Furthermore enter the "options" and "properties" and enable all volume controls.
Change also to "recording" and enable there also all controls.
Additional you should check if the all "recording controls" are set to high.

Use "Advanced" option of mic and play around with the mic boost settings.
I'm sure you will find the best settings for your mic recording

Hi, Try the following. Download the Realtek HD Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. When done, hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the Realtek device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, restart the notebook. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook again and let windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

Was wondering if anyone else had this problem. I have a Dell Dell UltraSharp 1901FP Flat Panel with Dell AS500 Sound Bar .
About a week ago the volume from the sound bar seems very weak even when turned up to max volume. Just started out of the blue, I've checked the sound/audio and everything is set to high.
These are 3 yrs old. Could the sound bar just be dying out?

Answer:Re: Realtek speakers, no volume.

rrmenon The forum Mods have split off your post into its own thread -- so there is no information here regarding anything about the problem, or what has been done to address it. You can start by following the instructions in the link for finding your detailed product number:  Finding Your HP Product Model Number | HP® Customer Support Also, what version of the OS was your PC running before you did the Win10 Upgarde? Once we have that information, we can begin.

Up until today had no problems with listening to my Itunes library of music from my Dell compuer with built in speakers. BUT TODAY NO SOUND! Have checked to make sure the mute buttons on my keyboard and monitor are not on and checked that none of the mute boxes have been activated on my computers' "sound devices"( found in the control panel section of my computer). Any ideas?

Answer:No volume from computer speakers

you posted this in the wrong section, lets get the obvious out of the you have Cats? they like to Chew small wires...I had one of my little buggers chew right through my speaker wires.

Have you tried another set of speakers ( or headphones), and tried the speakers in another output source ( like stereo)

I am using W98se with a Yamaha DS-XG PCI Audio Codec (wdm) and I have no sound or very low volume sound. Volume controls are set at their highest and the file shows everything installed and working...'cept it ain't.
Is this something that could be solved by downloading a new driver from driveragent? And does someone have the time to tell me step by step how to do that? I tried following their directions, but obviously got something wrong. Thanks in advance, if you can help.

Answer:No/weak volume in speakers

Did it ever work?
Have you checked the transformer/ power supply to the speakers, the speakers themselves and the cabling?
If you double click on the loudspeaker icon in the bottom right of the screen an window opens with a whole series of sliders. Are they properly set? You can get extra sliders by clicking on Options.

Hi All,I have an R61i and the volume is too low. (fine in a quiet room only). I have max'd every volume I can find in Windows (I have XP) .. In the Control Panel sound properties tabs I've increased everything to High.. The Conexant Audio Output volume, the Speaker Volume. It goes to 25. Isn't there any way to make it go up higher than 25?I have read other complaints about this but all I've found is suggestions to increase what I already have.Isn't there an outside-of-windows-lenovo kind of thing I could do to raise it higher than 25?Thanks... Tracy

Answer:Is this as high as the volume goes?

The speaker on the R61i isn't great, given that the speaker's cone diameter and depth are small, this is a physical limitation, you should get an external speakers or set of earphones.

First off, this is my first post ever on this forum ( yay ) and i'm not too up to date with technology and the terminology that goes with it so you will most likely have to break some things down as simply as possible for me.

So basically i just bought a new set of logitech x-530 speakers which are amazing and all except for this one tiny problem.

Whenever i connect ANY pair of headphones or earbuds or w.e into it's headphone jack i can hear the sound just fine but i cannot control the volume using the dial.Basically it's like they are connected just fine but only to the extent that i can only hear sound but not control it.

(My own mind told me to first off try and update my sound drivers but you see i don't quite know how to do that ,i let the thing search for any available updates on its own but it always says the drivers are up to date which i don't really believe.)

Help would be appreciated.

Answer:Speakers volume control problem.

Are you sure the volume control for the speakers is suppose to control the headphones and not just the speakers?
Does it work to control the speaker volume?
If it is suppose to control the headphone volume as well then its going to be a hardware problem with the volume control dial or something else in the speakers and not anything on the PC, so updating the drivers isn't going to help. Once you plug the headphones and use the dial on the speakers the computer gives up the control - you can still control the master volume on the PC but the dial should work independently.

You can either try contacting Logitech for support to find out if your set is broken or wait for someone with the same or similar set that knows if the dial can control the headphone volume as well.

Windows 8.1
Genuius SW-G2.1 1250 external speakers
ASUS K56CB laptop

When tested on other devices, the sound system blows the roof off. On my laptop, it doesn't (max level on computer controls, media player and speakers knob is lower). I'm pretty sure it's not the soundboard, but I've desperately fiddled with drivers with no avail.
Sound actually starts being heard only after the knob goes past the quarter mark, and does not increase in level too much between 3rd quarter and max setting. Works fine when on my tablet, for example, though.

Edit: Also, volume is lower on right speaker

I got my Lenovo Yoga 3 a few weeks ago.  The volume on the speakers was pretty good - I listen to a lot of music on youtube.  However, starting just yesterday, the volume appears to be about 60% of what it was before relative to any adjustment up or down.  I've checked the settings and haven't found anything there anything I can try to do about this?

Hi, I need to change the speaker volume while talking on my phone. For that I am pressing volume - down button during my conversation. It works, but it is reducing my ring tone volume also, which ends with missing of important calls. This issue is annoying me.. is there any remedy to avoid this? I feel, I brought a wrong phone.

Answer:Changing volume of speakers - Lumia 520

I feel your phone is in WP8, with WP8.1 you can set the volume of ringtones and calling independently.
It's easy to upgrade WP8 to 8.1 just check the phone update in Settings and the rest is automatically.

Hi, I bought a new headset today, identical to that of my sister, which is very loud ( in a good way). So, when I plugged the set to my speakers I was disappointed because it was lower than that of my sister's. But then I thought to plug it to front green panel of the unit and boom!!! the sound was crystal-clear as my sister's. The question is: why that happens and how can receive the same amount of volume from both inputs?

Answer:My headset has low volume when plugged in speakers

If you plug it into a jack on the speakers, the speaker system determines the volume. When you plug it into the headphone jack on the PC the sound chip and system volume control determine the volume.

The Impedance of the headset can also affect volume level.

For some reason, there was sound coming out from both the computer's internal speakers and the headphones that were plugged into it at the time I did this. I tried keeping the 'speakers' volume down all the way in the volume mixer, but this caused all the 'Applications' audio to turn off as well. So I went to its (Speakers) general properties and disabled then applied changes. Now I can't find said Speakers device anywhere in the control panel under 'Hardware and Sound.'

I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate x64 on an '09 iMac with Boot Camp. I don't know if this directly affects the problem in any way, but just putting that out there.

Thank you.

Answer:I disabled 'Speakers' in the volume mixer...

Welcome to SevenForums,

Now I know absolutely zero about Mac but:

Recently the volume from my speakers has been very low - barely audible.
The speakers are Realtek High Definition.

The volume is up to 100%. I've checked the playback, recording and sounds properties and they are all working okay.
The problem occurs whether I play CDs, videos online or applications such as RealPlayer - anything really.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Answer:Satellite A100 - very low volume from speakers

I assume you are meaning the sound card (it?s Realtek High Definition) and not speakers ;)
However, did you check the settings in control panel -> Realtek HD manager?

Do it! There are many different settings which control the sound quality and there you can assign different audio effects?

I think you should check this definitely!

I just purchased a new PC and installed the speakers from my old system. The volume I'm getting is barely audible even with the volume settings up to the highest settings.

These worked fine on my old PC. Any suggestions?
