I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,
I'll try to explain this as best as I can. I have a Compaq 8510w Workstation Laptop, and I am trying to get the internal Laptop speakers and some external speakers to work and both make sound at the same time. I have a secondary monitor that has speakers, and it's speakers connect through the headphone jack. So I would like to use the secondary monitor's external speakers, but I would also like the internal speakers in the laptop to work as well, to kinda make some version of surround sound, and just to generally boost the volume of my system. Is there a hardware or software change that I can make to make this work? I have a microphone and headphone jack in the front of the laptop, and in the back I have a green and blue jack. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if you need more information I"d be more than happy to help in any way, thank you,

Answer:Would like for BOTH Headphones and Internal Speakers to work at same time

Is there a way to tell if this is the cause of the problem? I messed around with all of my audio options, tried upgrading the driver, I've hooked the external speakers into every port available, and i reinstalled the monitor software thinking that maybe they had an application for it. I don't know what else my options are, but I find it weird that there isn't some kind of work around or registry change that can be made. Thank you once again for any help,

Hey i have a CMI 8738 PCI 6.1 sound card, and I also have a AC'97 onboard card (disabled at the moment).

Before i got my PCI card, I was able to use my AC'97 with a headset, (aud_out) a mic (mic_in) and a 2.1 sound system (aux_out). The beauty of this is that i can turn the speakers off (because they have a separate power source), and just use the headset when i need to be quiet. Or i can use the speakers when i'm listening and can be loud.

My mic port shorted out, so i got the new PCI sound card.

Now i'm wondering if I can do the same thing on the new sound card. I'm afraid to test it since I don't know the reason my old card shorted out.

I'm using Xear 3D sound with 3-D CMI Audio Controller.

I recently bought a new headset and desktop. I just tried out the headset and found it to be amazing, but I was wondering how I could get sound to go through both the headset and speakers on my speakers system. The desktop is in Windows 10, and it's a Lenovo, and I can provide the system information if needed, as well as any other information. Thank you for your time and responses.

I want to use both headphone and speaker at the same time. Like, the same audio comes from both of them. I want to use this so i can combine my speakers with the TV ( the one i use as monitor ) speakers to work as the 5.1 central speaker.
I googled it, and i only found results where the users wanted to get rid of that.

Thanks,
Alex.

Answer:How do i use both headphones and speakers at the same time?

If you are using HDMI for the TV, you can only have one default audio playback device. Either the HDMI output or your "speakers" (PC sound card) which would allow you to use headphones.

This comes up frequently and I don't recall any posted way to get around this.

I have a headphone jack on the front of my computer. Is there any way I can make it so that I can plug in something in the headphone jack and still have the speakers working?

The reason is I have two sets of speakers and I want to use them both (the second set behind me) and have like a quadratic speaker setup but I only have one speaker port.

I know I can use a Y-splitter on the speaker port but I don't have one and the stores are too far away so I don't feel like going right now. I was wondering if there was a setting on my computer that I could change to allow this.

Answer:Speakers AND Headphones At the Same Time

Nope, as soon as you plug into your headphone jack, it's going to disable your rear jacks. The only way I know of is using the "Y" cable you referred too.

Thanks!

I want to use my headphones for things such as firstperson shooters and my speakers for music. I'm using a Realtek AC97 Audio soundcard. It has Pink(microphone), Green(speaker), and Blue(I assume its for secondary audio output) colored ports in the back with nothing in the front. I've played around with the soundcard settings and the volume control in windows(just to make sure everything is unmuted and turned up all the way), but the blue port doesn't make any sound. Can anyone help me find out how to make this possible without buying a splitter for the working one?

Answer:How do I use speakers and headphones at the same time?

Onboard sound is both a blessing and a curse at the same time. Im assuming you are talking about the onboard chip on your board and not a pci card.
Mic - Audio in- and a line out. Its been a while - I think thas close.
I remember I had a ac97 compliant integrated chip a while back.
I didnt have much of a prob with it besides the cpu cycles it ate.
I think you will need some form of pci card (turtle beach or soundblaster) or a soundsystem that offers a port for your headphones with a seperate volume control otherwise your headphones will be blaring the same decibel as your main speakers and be blown apart in a few hours if you do not have an inline volume control on your headset. most models of logitech or klipsich speakers offer headset ports in the main volume control module - however there are much much cheaper options out there then those.

Hope this helps

Hello, from a few days I've a problem with audio devices:  when I connect any headphones to the jack on the left side of the laptop, the sound keeps going out from the  speakers. So, I can hear from headphones and speakers in the same time.  I tried everything: update all drivers, uninstall and reinstall them, uninstal and reinstall DOLBY ADVANCED AUDIO v2 program (which is supposed to control audio on the pc), update IDT High Definition Audio CODEC (I think this is the sound card?). Nothing worked. I have two  devices available in "Audio" window:  "Speakers / headphones" and "Headphiones communications" (I'm translating from italian Windows OS). Selecting the first, speakers and headphones work simultaneously. Selecting the second, no sound comes, neither from speakers or headphones. I think I tried everything. What to do? I don't even know why this problem occurred!   Thanks for the help

I've been through some guides on internet and the problem is that my headphones are being detected as speakers even though I tick the square that stands for headphones (pop-up window then device is pluged-in).

What I wanna do is that I want to hear voice from speakers and headphones at the same time. I can't do that and if I want to switch from one device to another I need to unplug headphones (or plug in).

Answer:Can't enable both headphones and speakers at the same time

Mark them as separate playback devices. That's about all I can say based on what little info you have provided.

I'm wondering if instead of buying a splitter, I can just have the headphone and speaker playing at the same time.

I have a stereo system that sounds better than the pc speakers, but the bass isn't as good as the pc speaker's subwoofer. All i want to do is be able to plug in the stereo system into the front headphone slot while having the pc speakers plugged into the back speaker slot and be able to play both at the same time.

What would be even better, but probably not possible, is if I could hook the pc speaker's subwoofer up to the stereo system but thats probably a lot of trouble..

Is there a way that I could make the 2 pc speakers and the 2 stereo system speakers be recognized by the computer as a 4 speaker system? again, probably impossible or too much trouble.

Answer:How can i play through headphones and speakers at the same time?

You plug the stereo system into the rear channel and the PC speakers to the front channel (or vice versa) - that's what i have set up and it works just fine.

You need to fiddle with your soundcard settings to get it to run in 4 speaker mode.

Answer:Speakers and headphones play at the same time?

Hi there
This sometimed happens with Realtek HD sound cards when the sound card is integrated into the Mobo.

Download and re-install the driver AND HD audio application.

(even if your sound card is not a REALTEK one I'd still re-install the driver (from the MOBO driver set / sound card CD) AND THE APPLICATION -- most of the sound card driver software usually has an application as well (such as a mixer. graphic equalizer etc).

Cheers

Hi,

I have a HP probook 4530s with win 7 Home premium 64 bit. Till yesterday i was able to hear sound only from my headphones but today when i started my system i was getting sound from both my headphones and speakers. I tried re installing my drivers and all but still the same issue. Kindly let me know any other solution for it.

AND YES I AM HAVING IDT High Defination Audio CODEC DEVICE

THANKS IN ADVANCE.,..

Answer:Why are the speakers and headphones playing at the same time?

Check for a setting in the audio. Many, have an audio configuration panel and an option to mute the speakers when the headphone is connected or not.

I don't have IDT so I can't say exactly where that is at.

Another option, if it worked yesterday and not today, use the System Restore and restore the PC back to an available restore date when it did work correctly. (System restore will not delete any user data). System Restore can be accessed from Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools.

I'm new to this forum, but I've been having a problem for a while now.

Whenever I unplug my headphones, my computer has absolutely no sound.

When I do plug in my headphones, the headphones AND speakers turn on.

The speakers are built into my monitor, plus they're playing with the headphones plugged in, so there definitely isn't anything wrong with them.

I've tried messing around with Realtek and just a simple restart/shut down, and nothing has happened.

Hi Shabirah1997 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Step 1: You may try to set default initially to get back the previous settings. Similar steps on this article .
Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Playback tab > Set Default at the bottom > Apply

Step 2 oing a reset on command prompt :
Click on start and search for CMD , right click to run as administrator . type net stop AudioSrv
then  net start AudioSrv

Step 3 : Jumping back to previous working date with System Restore

Step 4: Rollback / Uninstall and Reinstall audio drivers from D:/Lenovo /Drivers folder or download from support site.

See which one works for you best.

Hello....

When I plug in my headphones, my speakers just keep on playing(although the headphones also play the audio). The headphones won't show up under audio devices, and I've tried two different sets of headphones.

Does anyone know how to stop this? It was working fine yesterday....

I use Windows 7.

THANK YOU!

Answer:Headphones and speakers playing at the same time?

Hello OctoberOwl and welcome to Seven Forums.

Since everything was working fine yesterday I'd try using system restore to return my computer to a date/time prior to when the audio problem first started.

System Restore

If system restore doesn't help you might have to go into control panel > sounds to see what your default settings are. There are several previous forum threads that provide possible solutions. For example:

Speakers and headphones play at the same time?

Selecting headphones or speakers as default

And a couple of threads from the Microsoft Answers forum:

I have a HP G62 series laptop with Realtek HD Audio Manager and an iSymphony NC1 Headphone with a male to male 3.5 mm cord connected to my audio output jack. The jack on my laptop is loose, but I can still hear sound coming from both sides of the headphones. The problem is that the internal speakers still play and the headphones don't show up on my devices menu or in the Realtek HD Audio Manager. Does someone know anything about how to fix this? Help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Headphones and speakers playing at the same time

It would appear from your description that you have a mechanical fault with the headphone jack. When you insert the plug into the socket there is a contact that is switched telling the system that something has been inserted into the socket - this signal is used to switch off the speakers.

As this is a laptop it is probably beyond most PC users to make a repair, although this is possible, I would suggest you contact your local PC repair outfit who will normally be able to replace the socket for a reasonable cost

Hi I have got a windows 8 64 bit laptop and just the past couple of days iv had this problem when I plug my headphones in I am still hearing sound coming from my laptop speakers and from my headphones at the same time. At first I thought this was a problem with my headphones so I decided to try different ones but I still had the same problem ( and yes the headphones are fully plugged in). This is clearly a problem with my laptop and not my headphones. I have been to the control panel and tried changing settings with my sound but NOTHING SEEMS TO BE WORKING!. I have also tried doing a system restore but that didn't help either . It would be much appreciated if anyone could help me solve this problem as it is really annoying!. Thanks in advance

Answer:Headphones and speakers playing at same time HELP!

What sound do you have? e.g. Realtek, Conexant, etc?

Realtek has an HD Control Panel and there is an option to mute the speakers when a headset is connected or as yours is doing not mute the speakers. I don't have anything except Realtek but I know some of the other sound hardware's have similar settings.

The Realtek is located in Control Panel/Hardware and Sound.

So, my problem is that both the speakers and the headphones play in my HP laptop at the same time.

When I go into my playback devices I have three options:

1. ATI HDMI Output
2. Speakers and headphones (same device)
3. headphones

When my headphones are connected the third still shows them as unconnected but sound will play through both the speakers and the headphones.

I am wondering if there's any way that I can fix this so that I can have sound play out of just one or the other.

I have tried the following things:

-system restore
-updating my sound drivers

Thanks for any future help.

Answer:Headphones and speakers play at the same time

With no system specs specified we can't say exactly. But, in newer HD audio sound systems they autodetect when something is plugged in. If you have one of these devices it is either the driver or there is a hardware problem with the sound chip.

hi

Whenever i want to play music or watch a movie in a public place, ill put in some headphones. but right now, whenever i plug them in, i get sound from both my headphones and my laptop speakers. It used to switch automatically from speakers to headphones but it wont anymore.

I have Realtek HD Audio with Vista 64 bit.

Is there any way to get it back to the way it was?

Answer:Laptop speakers and Headphones at same time

Go to Control Panel - Sound - and explore all possible settings ("configure" and "properties").

I think the switch is a part of the connection, and something in the headphone jack is loose or broken, but it's worth looking for a setting. I didn't find any such setting on my Vista, but I have a different sound card.

I use a bluetooth speaker (Tendqa) as well as a pair of wired headphones on my computer (XP). Until yesterday, I could get audio output on both simultaneously (I know for sure because many times I forgot that the speakers were on and I'd start playing a game and the sounds were broadcast through the speakers and I didn't realize it right away because I had the headset on).

Anyway, as of this morning, it's an either/or thing with music (played via Pandora or WMP). I can get system sounds through the headset (such as the audio demo through Realtek) but no music while the bluetooth speakers are connected.

The only thing I can think that I did in the interim is install Adobe Acrobat Reader X. But I restored my computer to yesterday's settings (before the Reader install) and it didn't solve the problem. I even checked my windows registry to make sure none of the Reader X registry entries were there. Nada.

Can anyone think of anything else I can try?

In the Windows audio playback tab there's only "speakers" but sound is playing from both speakers and the headphones, with headphones plugged into the right jack. I checked the Realtek Control Panel and there was F**K ALL for options there (see attached). There is an Intel(R) Display Audio in Device Manager alongside Realtek High Definition Audio. So now I can't watch warm-up videos at school without blasting the sounds through my speakers as well.

I tried a System Restore to before the problem started but it didn't do anything. The problem started around the time I ran an Advanced Systemcare 8 scan, which does the following tasks:
Spyware Removal
Registry Fix
Privacy Sweep
Junk Files Clean
Internet Boost
Shortcuts Fix
Registry Defrag
System Optimization
Security Defense
Disk Scan
Vulnerability Fix (Windows Updates)
Disk Optimization
Also when I move my laptop it shuts off for some reason, so it could've interupted the scan or updates or something.

I have a HP Pavilion g6, Win10. Today the sound on my laptop started playing from the speakers and headphones at the same time. A quick google tells me this is a known and stubborn problem for some HP users. None of the advice worked for me so I tried the option of unisntalling and reinstalling the sound drivers. Looking at the 'Sound' tab of the cotrol panel in Playback there was a device, IDT High Definition Audio, which said it wasn't working. Looking at the control panel I had two options for which sound driver to uninstall- AMD HD Audio Device, or IDT High Definition Audio. Given the fact that IDT Audtio was apprently not working, I chose to unisntall that one. I unchecked the box saying to remove all drivers.  Apparently this was the wrong thing to do, but the instructions made no mention of this. I then searched for and downloaded the IDT High Def Audio driver, restarted my computer and... No sound, and no way of reinstalling the driver. In device manager if I scan for hardware changes it comes up with nothing. If I try all the options to reinstall the sound driver, and even specify the folder where I downloaded the IDT High Def driver, it tells me my sound driver is already up to date. In the Sound tab of the Control Panal, in Playback, I now only have one thing - "Digital Display Audio" - and that's with it showing disabled devices too. Help! Thanks.

Answer:Sound from speakers and headphones at same time, uninstalled...

#HPExpertDayThis is  driver and setting conflict issue. Windows would have tried updating the drivers and someother program might be overiting it. You will have to uninstall and reinstall the drivers and software for Audio.

I don't believe it is possible. As far as I know, the sound card can only output one channel at a time. I don't know to much about the specifics of audio cards so I am assuming.

Hello,Sorry if this is in the wrong place, as you can tell, I'm a newbie. Anyways, I'm having a bit of a problem with my headphones and speakers. It all started around a year ago. All of a sudden, my speakers stopped working, however, the headphones continued to work fine. Then, out of nowhere a few months later, my speakers magically began working again. Only problem is, my computer doesn't seem to recognize that I have headphones plugged in, so the speakers and headphones play sound at the same time. This is a major inconvenience because I like to listen to music and watch movies, but can't do so without disturbing others anymore. There might be something lodged in the headphone jack, as the headphones don't seem to go all the way in, but it still goes in enough to play sound through them. I've tried disabling the speakers themselves, but it blocks the sound from the headphones too.So basically what I'm asking is, is there some way I can 'fool' the computer into thinking I've got headphones plugged in so I don't have to run both at the same time? Or any other way to fix it that doesn't involve high-cost repairs? Any help here would be so greatly appreciated!ThanksEDIT: Forgot to mention, I'm using a Gateway NV79 laptop running on Windows 7. It's a little over a year old.

Until recently I was able to unplug my headphones from the front input and my USB speakers would activate. So whenever I wanted to hear my USB satellite speakers that are plugged into a USB port on the back of my HP desktop, I would simply unplug my headphones.

Now, I have to manually go into the speaker panel and select whichever one I want in order for sound to be heard.

If sound is playing through the USB speakers and I set the headphone to default, if I close my Firefox browser and then re-open it, sound will be playing through the headset. Likewise the same in reverse.

I don't know what happened to force me to use the speaker panel to change which one I wanted. Before plugging in the headphones would just override the USB speakers and cancel them.

Any ideas what I may have done?

Answer:Headphones work or USB speakers work but only if I change to default

How does the sound work, if you do not use Firefox. Boot the PC but do not open Firefox. What device is set as default? (should be the USB device). Play a sound file on the PC with a media player (e.g. Windows Media Player) and confirm you are getting sound through the USB device. Then plug in the headphones and see if it automatically switches.

If it isn't working properly, without Firefox, then uninstall/reinstall the sound devices starting with the USB device (Uninstall in the Device Manager, but DO NOT uninstall any drivers, then restart the PC and let Windows reinstall the device).

If it works OK, without Firefox but still does not work correctly with Firefox that makes Firefox or whatever sound add on is being used in Firefox the suspect.

As per the title, my speakers and headphones have started playing sound at the same time. Under "playback devices", "speakers and headphones" appear as one (I don't know if they're supposed to be separate?) and are set as the "default device". I've had this problem for nearly a month and I absolutely need a solution. I've searched through the forum, but have been unable to find an answer. Any help would be much appreciated!
I've tried three different headphones and they all have the same problem - sound plays from the speakers at the same time.
Disabling and enabling the audio driver didn't do anything.
Uninstalling and reinstalling the audio driver didn't do anything.
I tried system restore, but I went away over the holiday period and it's possible the last restore point I could use was, in fact, after the problem occurred.
Windows refresh didn't do anything.
The Windows tutorial didn't do anything - the sound processor is working, the cable is connected, the volume is up, the troubleshooter didn't find any problems, the driver is up-to-date.
Stopping and starting audio service, Windows audio and Windows audio endpoint builder in services.msc didn't do anything. Their start-up types are all set to automatic.
I understand KB2962407 has caused sound problems for people. My laptop hadn't downloaded the update. I tried downloading it to see if this would fix the problem but it did not and I have deleted it again.
Update: I've also updated BIOS. &quo... Read more

Answer:Speakers and headphones playing at the same time - HP Pavilion G6 Windows 8.1

From the service manual
Produces sound when connected to optional powered
stereo speakers, headphones, earbuds, a headset, or
television audio
WARNING! To reduce the risk of personal injury, adjust
the volume before putting on headphones, earbuds, or a
headset. For additional safety information, refer to the
Regulatory, Safety and Environmental Notices.
NOTE: When a device is connected to the jack, the
computer speakers are disabled.
This means the socket is faulty as it is supposed to cutout the speakers by a mechanism inside the socket itself. (My daughters phone as the opposite problem - no sound at all unless headphone plugged in.)
to replace the socket means wiring stripping the laptop and soldering on a new socket.

I have a Satallite L500. I am having problems with my sound.
When I insert my jacks for the headphones and play something, sound comes out of both the headphones as well as the laptop speakers.
I want to turn off the laptop speakers but still receive sound from the headphones.
There is a horrible "echo" when both headphones and speakers are on at the same time. I am new to Vista and for the life of I can't figure out what's going on.

When I first got the laptop everything worked fine. I then bought some speakers for those times I wanted to listen to external speakers.
I would unplug the headphone jacks and plug in the speaker jack.
Ever since doing this, whenever I plug in the headphones the laptop speakers are also playing.

Also, when I first got the laptop whenever I would plug in the headphone jacks, a message would pop up on the screen indicating that the microphone and audio jacks were detected. I no longer get this message.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanx

Answer:Satellite L500: headphones and speakers play at the same time

hi tango123,
i think some sort of "confusion" is in the registry.
just deinstall the sounddriver
after that reboot and reinstall (look for the current driver at toshibas driver downloadsite)
make sure you use a stereo jack!

for the echo issue try to mute the mic to test.

Hi there, As the subject line reads I am hoping to enable playback through both the headphone and internal speakers on the E93z All in One unit I have. Is there is currently a way to do this with the Lenovo HD Audio software for the Realtek system? It detects the headphones and does the typical shut off of the internal speakers however no option to enable playback through both seems to exist. Running Windows 7 Pro 32 bit. I cannot enable stereo mix (by right clicking in the playback area of the sound settings in Windows) to try and come up with a work around. I have tried re-installing the drivers and not luck with more options to do this.I have tried un-installing the Lenovo HD audio software and still no luck using the vanilla Windows 7 software. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I have quite an odd problem which I am stuck with. For some reason my laptop doesn't play any kind of sound out of the laptop speakers but works fine when I use heaphones. I have checked all the speaker settings and I can't figure out how it's happened. If I click on the sound icon whilst playing a song in itunes it shows the audio is being played, it just doesnt play through the speakers.

Any ideas or suggestions would be really helpful because i havent got a clue!

Hey, around 10 minutes ago I was messing around with my audio settings trying to get the +20DB settings to work on my microphone (failed). I then think that restarting my system will help, so I power down and reboot. However when windows loads again the start-up music will play, then cut out almost instantaneously.

If I was to play a song then it would work through my headphones but not my speakers. All settings seem to be correct in Audio porperties.

Any ideas?

Regards

In most cases, it is a matter of updating your system drivers (found at your Manufacture's support site)

In some cases it is a Virus\Spyware infection that must be removed

My orgainization uses HP almost exclusively and while the Folio 9470's were rockstars the 9480's not so much.  I have had this particluar issue now with 3 different devices.  One of those has already been sent back to HP for "repair".  That "repair" supposedly included "extensive testing" but when I got the device back headphone still wouldn't work.  Not until I updated the bios that is.  So here we are again with this device where if you use the built in speaker the sound works great.  When you plug in a known good working headset you have no sound at all.  Sending the device back to HP support might be the only answer but before I inconvience this executive again with that I wanted to find out if anyone else had found a solution for this.

Hello. Download and install a fresh copy of the Cirrus Logic audio driver.
If the speakers still will not work, test the speakers with the audio test in the ePSA or the PSA diagnostic utility. This utility is in the BIOS memory on the motherboard -- you don't have to download or install it.

Ever since last night, my internal speakers will only work if something is plugged into the headphone jack, be it headphones or external speakers. This happened right after I unplugged some external speakers.

In control panel, it says headphones are plugged in when they are not and that they are not plugged in when they are. Sound comes through both the speakers and the headphones when headphones are plugged in.

Oddly enough, Skype login sounds still play. Windows startup sounds and all other media, videos, etc doesn't work without the headphones however.

I have tried updating the sound card driver using the automatic detection program from the AMD website. Then I tried updating the sound card driver via the HP website. Then I tried a system restore. Nothing has worked so far.

Help please?

Answer:Speakers only work with headphones plugged in

Try an uninstall/reinstall of the sound. Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for your sound device and the LEFT click "uninstall". DO NOT check the box to also uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. This fixes a lot of flakey problems and if you are lucky will take care of yours.

Check the internal cabling between the front panel headphone/mic jacks and the motherboard connection for the HD front panel audio. Reseat the cable(s) (unplug then plug back in) at the motherboard end and at the front panel end.

Answer:speakers not functioning. headphones work.

Check the sound controls and make sure that they are not turned all of the way down or muted. If that is not the problem, this system sounds fairly new. If it is under warranty, return to where you purchased it and let them fix or replace it (back up your data before you go 'just in case').You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane. If all else fails, read instructions.

I recently upgraded to windows 8 pro 32 bit.
For a month there were no problems.
But one sunday afternoon i was watching some movie on my laptop and suddenly the speakers stopped working.
I restarted it, but to no avail.
However my headphones still work, and so do external speakers work.

I tried reinstalling audio drivers frm the mfg's website-Didn't help.
I tried System restore to a point where i knew my speakers were working-Didn't help.
I even tried refreshing windows 8-Didn't help.

After almost a week now my speakers still do not work and only my headphones work.
If somebody have any solution to it kindly do help.

P.S.
I recently updated Nvidia Graphics Drivers in order to play COD BO2
If it has any relevance to my problem.
Thank You all in advance

Good morning.

I am running Windows 8.1 with 8gb of ram, Time Warner internet at 50mbps (speed tested before I posted). 2gb video Nvidia card. Using on board sound (no extra sound card)

Last night, I could only get sound on my speakers whenever I plugged in my headphones. Today, none of my videos will play (Netffix, YouTube, MP3's on Windows Media Player).

When I check my sound settings , the headphones and speakers are constantly switching back and forth as the default device, even when the headphones are not plugged in.

I updated Flash Player and ran virus scans from both of my anti virus programs (MalwareBytes and AVG 2015). I updated all of my drivers that I could (none needed updating).

Any idea how I can fix this? I'm out of ideas.

Thanks everyone!

Hi, I have an HP Pavilion Slimline and everything was fine prior to a move 3 weeks ago. Now I get sound from my headphones but nothing from my speakers, I tried not only the speakers I used before, but a set I had hooked to a TV and nada, Both work well attached to my lap top. I bought a set of wireless speakers from Circuit city and still nothing.

I have run every diagnostic test I can find and everything says my puter is operating at 100%. I uninstalled and reinstalled RealTec and no difference.

Sure hope someone can help, as I think this is a silly reason to have to purchase a new puter, especially since this one is only a little over a year old.

Oh, the only thing different is that I switched from FIOS to Cox cable when I moved.

-Laptop speakers suddenly stop working one day after I turn on my computer from sleep mode, it's been about 1-2 months now and they're still not working
-Of course I've restarted/shut down/hibernated/sleep'd my computer many times since then
-I can plug in headphones and external speakers and they work just fine
-My audio driver is enabled/up to date and works fine (obviously since I can use headphones)
-The speakers AREN'T broken, proof is that my computer has a little startup "Republic of Gamers" logo with an explosion sound, and it plays just fine through the speakers
-There was an incident about a few days before this happened: ASUS laptops are known to do this, where they short circuit and shut down if you accidentally touch a headphone plug into the USB port. I'm not sure if this contributed, since my speakers worked fine afterward

Answer:HP620 No sound from speakers only headphones work

Welcome to Seven Forums NJTeddy. Generally the way the headphone jack works is there is basically a switch inside the headphone jack that shitches off the speakers when the headphones are plugged in. This switch may be stuck. I would try playing some audio you can hear on the headphones, then slide the headphone jack in and out slowly, see if you get any audio through the speakers at all. it may just be plugging and unplugging a few times will fix it. So Recently I got a new computer its an Acer. It only has one jack for headphones and microphones and usually when I plug one in it works fine and asks me to clarify which I'd like to use. I switch between headphones and microphone a lot so its a very useful tool for me. Though recently when I plug it in it no longer gives me the option to choose and no sound plays from the headphones and it instead plays from the speakers whether its plugged in or not. It also dims the sound a bit when they're plugged in so I think it decided I was mainly/only going to use microphone and set it to a mic one regardless of what's plugged in. I'm not very tech savvy but I tried my best to fix it. I tried other headsets, It is the same. I tried half plugging it in or fiddling with it, Its the same. I tried going into the sound playback list and seeing if it was disabled and it is not, It does not even show headphones as an option though it does show 'speaker's. I tried messing around in those settings and restoring them to default and nothing worked. I also tried going to the mic settings. For the mic settings there is two different options, 'microphone' which I assume is the one I usually plug in (since I can just plug my mic in and it works now) and stereo mix. I'v tried disabling the mic and enabling stereo mix and vise verse and tried restoring to default and tried making it forget about the mic and putting it back on and nothing is working and I really would like to use my headset since I l... Answer:No sound coming from headphones but speakers work

Try a reinstall and see if it fixes the problem. Go to the Device Manager, RIGHT click on the entry for your sound device (Could be Realtek, Conexant, etc) and then LEFT click "Uninstall". DO NOT uninstall the drivers. Restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the sound. This fixes a lot of corruptions and may fix your problem.

In reference to the Stereo Mix, that should be set as the default Recording device. Then if you use the mic it will be heard, or if you want to record audio from the Internet you must have the Stereo Mix.

Hi all, I'm having some audio issues with my brand new OMEN 17. In the middle of listening to some music on youtube, the sound slowly starting getting lower and lower. 10-15 seconds later I could barely hear anything. When I put headphones in, there is no issue with the sound. I went through all the troubleshooting, did diagnostics, re-installed the drivers from within the recovery manager, and also downloaded and installed the latest from the HP site. The issue keeps re-occuring. I'll restart the laptop and the sound will be fine for a couple of minutes. Then it starts getting quieter and then gone. (even if I close Chrome and re-open, I'll get normal sound volume for about 10 seconds before it goes)Ive tried different websites, video games, etc. Same for all. Any idea what this might be? Faulty speakers? The machine is 2 days old.... One thing that's interesting is that after the sound is gone, if I click to go forward on a song, I'll hear the sound at a regular volume for about 0.2 of a second. Just a brief sound spike before it goes quiet. Would appreciate any help.

This is a pernicious little issue. I'm operating a Dell XPS 15 9550, using Windows 10, and my audio worked with no issues as recently as earlier today. At one point today, however, my device bluescreened and (I believe, but it's a little hard to remember at this point) partially installed an update upon booting back up. After this, audio did not work at all, but through uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, I got the speakers to work again.
But it was only the speakers that worked again. When I plug in headphones, the system recognizes that a device has been plugged in, and does change the volume to the headphone volume, and does stop playing sound through the speakers as normal when the headphones are plugged in... but it just doesn't play any sound through the headphones. The system itself indicates that sound is being played whenever it should be, but no sound comes through the headphones.
The only differences between my audio situation then and now are that it doesn't automatically detect which type of device I've placed into the 3.5mm jack and now brings up the prompt asking which type of device was placed in, and that it doesn't play sound through the headphones.
I've tried several different solutions, too. I've tried two different pairs of headphones/earbuds, and made sure that both function on other devices (they do), I've tried updating and reinstalling all of my drivers, I've tried switching between the Realtek drivers and th... Read more

I have speakers plugged into the back panel. I plugged a new pair of headphones into the front panel and they worked fine. I unplugged them, and the speakers no longer work, even though everything shows them as working. I uninstalled and reinstalled the Realtek drivers, now only one side of the headphones work. Any idea if this can be fixed, or do I need to buy a new computer now? Motherboard is asus sabertooth.

Answer:plugged in headphones, speakers no longer work

Welcome to our forum realtekproblem.

Try this.

Go to the little speaker lower right corner and right tick on it.
Select Playback Devices.
Choose what you want as a Playback device by right ticking on it and select Set as default device.
After selecting your device right tick on it again and select (test) it should play.

I am on an X200 which was released to me a month ago, all new. Sound worked just fine, but automatic updating is on for Vista Business 32-bit and I just lost it for no reason. I can hear audio on headphones but no audio from the speakers. Audio is indicated as "working properly" and so are the speakers. I have the latest version already of the Connexant Driver. Driver Version 4.92.13 and dated November 28, 2009. But still no sound from speakers Anyway, is this material, the location of the Audio Driver is stated as "0".  Can anyone please help me? I already tried restoring to the factory installed settings and even that did not restore the sound I've browsed through the forums but no particular topic detailing a solution for this one.

I'm getting only minimal sound from the internal speakers of my Latitude E6420. The volume is very low, even though it's set to the highest level. Also, the sound is tinny. It's similar to what you hear from headphones at a distance, like when someone near you is listening to headphones at a high volume, or if you take off your headphones while the audio is still playing.

Whenever I listen with headphones, the sound is great, but with the internal speakers the audio is practically nonexistent.

I've set the internal speakers as my default speakers, I've adjusted the loudness equalization, and I've reinstalled the audio drivers. I've even tried wiggling a toothpick inside the speaker jack, but nothing has resolved this issue.

Can anyone help?

Thanks

Are you using the IDT driver from Dell? If not, here is the link to the Win 7 64 bit driver
Product Support | Dell US

Could be the speaker connection is bad (need reseated?). The speakers are connected by a plug in connector according to what I find in the Dell manual. That would be my "best guess" as the problem. Reseating the connector (unplug then plug back in) would be a good first start. Looks sort of complicated though.
Here is the Dell manual and it details how to access it.

Hi,
I've got no sound through my internal laptop speakers what so ever but
when I plug in headphones or my surround system, there is sound.
There also is a red light burning in the audio input where my headphone goes in.
I think my laptop thinks the headphones are still plugged in?

Anyone any idea how I can fix this?

Hi

Satellite A50, Win Xp, sound card driver installed, speakers are not mute, but when i use earphone the sound is ok.
Speakers are not working!
There are two of them, I opened the notebook there is two separate plugs
Are the speakers went down?

But how it comes that both at the same time went down?
Is there any other configuration I have to do?

Please help
thanks

Answer:Satellite A50 no sound through the speakers but headphones work fine

Hi

Maybe the speakers are not faulty but the tiny switch which is placed in the headphone port malfunctions ?:|
The tiny switch mutes the speakers when the headphones are plugged in.
Try to move the headphone jack a little bit? maybe you could notice some differences?

But just one question; can you see some yellow exclamation marks in the device manager? Did you try to reinstall the sound driver?
If not then I recommend to reinstall it!

Hi, I recently bought an Inspiron 17-7778 and have already found a problem. I use a pair of Razer Tiamat Headphones, which is also a headset. When I originally plugged in the mic cord, (Note: There is only one audio jack) the computer asked me what the cord was. I said that it was a microphone and that was that. The only problem is that not only does the mic not work, but when I plug in the audio jack, It doesn't recognize the audio or the mic jacks being plugged in, even though it tells me that I plugged something in. I've looked through a couple other similar forum posts and all of the answers suggest using different headphones, but that isn't an option for me because this headset was not cheap. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Headphones not working, but Speakers are and the Microphone doesn't work.

Redtrumpet12the mic not work
Hello. If you headset has 2 separate plugs -- one for the headphones and the other for the mic -- then the mic will not work when plugged into a Dell laptop with a single headset jack (aka a combo jack).
Your headset's plugs are of the TRS type (tip/ring/sleeve, or 3 segments). The combo jack will work with headphones with a TRS plug, but will not work with a mic with a TRS plug. The mic would have to have a TRRS (4 segment) plug, in order to work.
Amazon sells some TRS-to-TRRS adapaters, but we have received mixed reports about them. Sometimes they work but very often do not.
Another alternative is to get an inexpensive usb audio jack, and use its jacks instead of the laptop's combo jack.

As I said, the headphones of the headset should work okay with the combo jack. If you are not getting audio through the headphones, try a different set of headphones. If still no luck, re-install the audio driver.
1.    Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2.    Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" category.3.    Right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".4.    Click "uninstall".5.    Do not check the box to “delete the driver software for this device”. 6.    Restart the computer. Windows will detect your device and re-install the driver. The driver... Read more

Hi all,
Probably a usual post, but can't seem to find the answer anywhere! I have got a Tecra M5 running on Windows 7 and the sound was working perfectly until recently I linked up my laptop to my tv and connected an audio jack to transfer sound to the tv so I could stream a football game.

After I had finished and un plugged the cables, the sound refuses to play through the laptop speakers, but when i plug in headphones, the sound comes out fine. I have tried unistalling and reinstalling the sound driver but to no avail.

Can someone please help resolve this issue?

Many thanks,

Sunny nagra

Answer:Re: Sound not working through Tecra M5 speakers but work through headphones

I hope you must be clear that on this virtual way we can just speculate what the problem can be.
My first thought was that maybe small switcher placed in audio line out jack is pinched or blocked somehow and your notebook ?thinks? external audio jack is connected all the time.

What you can do is to check all sound settings and be sure everything is set to ?default? settings.

I have an HP elitebook 2530p running windows 7 professional 32 bit

Today the speakers just stopped working all together in the middle of a chess match on chess.com while using google chrome. It has done this in the past on that particular site. Alwasy comes back. Today though when I went to go watch a youtube video didnt' work. I restarted my computer sound was fine for about 10 minutes. Since it finally died I have not been able to get any sound of my speakers at all. Headphones work just fine.

I have gone to HP.com and downloaded the latest audio driver which installs something called soundmax. Does nothing. I have also per instructions on a post here gone and downloaded the realtek driver. I have installed that twice since I seen another poster said he needed to install it twice for the .exe version to work over the zip version. I have also gone to HP and downloaded the latest BIOS version. Said I had the latest and didnt need to installed anyways. I have gone into the control panel and made sure my speakers are the default selection. I don;t know what else to do. And now after this latest restart after going into my device manager and right clicking on the SoundMax and choosing uninstall I now have a "red x" over my speaker icon in the tray that has never been there. When I go to the device manager and click on sounds, video & game controllers the only selection I have to choose is High Definition Audio Device. However when I go in... Read more

No sound is coming out of the headphones.
Icon for headphones on Realtek HD Audio Manager in speaker tab becomes bold when headphones are connected (should the icon be coloured?).

I have updated the driver and did a windows update.
The headphones are not faulty as I have tried them on other laptops.
Everything is enabled on 'Playback Devices' and both 'show disabled devices' and 'show disconnected devices' options are ticked.

Would someone be able to help?

Hi everyone,

I have Sony Vaio CW26. Yesterday Sound stopped working from Speaker, it's still working from headphones. I tried to restore the system but the farther point I found was done 3 hours ago......

anyway, I found out too that the USB port ( which is next to the audio output) is not working too.

I checked the Device Manager and nothing is wrong, any ideas?

thanx.

Answer:Sound won't work form Speakers but works in headphones

Hi Ezom and welcome to SF!
That is most likely no driver problem. The way you described it makes me think it's a hardware issue.
Inside the headphone jack is a "micro switch that cuts the connection to the build in speakers as soon as anything is plugged in there. Sometimes those switches get stuck (especially if one uses headphone jacks that are slightly thicker than 3.5mm.
You could try plug/unplug the headphones (or a similar plug) several times to "unstuck" the switch

Hello,

I have a sound problem with my computer (satellite L 70)
I've tried everything but nothing to do, no sound output, but by plugging headphones into the audio port its working well, then I uninstall Conexant reinstall, same for dts sound but its still not working,

thank you

Answer:Satellite L70 - no sound from speakers but headphones work fine

In my opinion the notebook symptoms are clear enough: it does not look like sound driver or system problem because the sound appears using the headphones.

I think the internal speakers are faulty?. it looks strange to me that both speakers started to malfunction at the same time but such issue could happen.

But before you would contact the Toshiba authorized service provider for fix, I would recommend you to recover the notebook just to be 100% sure that this issue is not related to software/system fault.

The speakers on my Equium P300 seem to have stopped working?
I've checked the sound card an everything and their appear to be no errors there.

The sound bar in the bottom right move as it should when I'm play music but it just doesn't come out of the speakers.
However it does work through headphones.

Any ideas on how to solve the problem?

Answer:Equium P300: no sound from speakers but work through headphones

Hi

Hmm?. You can hear the sound using headphone but you cannot hear it from the speakers? well? it seems really like an speaker issue but it?s really strange that both speakers died at the same time?

In your case I would remove the sound card driver and would update it using the one from the Toshiba European driver page.
Check what happens after the update?
