Homegroup issues after factory reset

Question: Homegroup issues after factory reset

I have a Acer Win 7 laptop and when I bought it nearly a year ago I set up a homegroup on it. Let's call it Homegroup1. I was negligent and did not record the homegroup password, or, if I did, I don't remember where. I had some issues with the laptop and sent it in for warranty work, where they replaced the hard drive and required a factory reset. When I did the factory reset, I set up a 2nd homegroup as prompted. Call this Homegroup2. My husband joined Homegroup2 on his laptop and has the password there. And all went swimmingly until it became obvious the laptop repair didn't actually fix the problem and I had to send it back in AGAIN. It returned with the same hard drive and settings, but I no longer seem to be able to access or detect Homegroup2. I am, however, detecting Homegroup1, which has an unknown-to-me password and is basically being run by a nonexistent PC (since the computer running it got reset and now has a new name and identity). I tried to enter Homegroup2 Password and Windows rejects it as the wrong password.

I would like to delete ALL these homegroups and try again because this is ridiculous. But I can't get the "original" PC (the one I had to reset) to leave the homegroup and therefore delete it, because apparently to delete the homegroup all computers have to leave it. Is there some way to do this? Because it seems like I'm in a catch-22 devised by evil geniuses.

Also I am unable to "detect" the printer on the network anymore, is that because I am not in the homegroup? All these computers and the printer are attached to the same network. I had no problem with this before the warranty work. All I think I really needed was a new screen (irony).

Preferred Solution: Homegroup issues after factory reset

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Homegroup issues after factory reset

I suppose I should mention my husband was messing around with routers during this; we replaced an old one with a FIOS one and added a higher speed one to the FIOS one to actually connect to, to supposedly make everything super fast. But I'm uncertain about the timing.

I performed a factory reset which went fine. When I click on Homegroup it says I can join the one I previously setup on the machine before the factory reset, i.e it is asking me to join my own Homegroup. I do not have the password for my (old) Homegroup.

I've tried some of the solutions I found on here (deleting files in Appdata/... and stopping the service but the old Homegroup still persists.

1) Do you usually join your own Homegroup?
2) Is there a way to get the password?
3) Can the old Homegroup be erased?
4) Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the help.

No one uses Homegroup. Majority of us use standard Network Shares. Homegroup has been broken from day one.

I got this today "Your device is at risk because it’s out of date and missing important security and quality updates. Let’s get you back on track so Windows can run more securely. Select this button to get going"

I ran several command prompts including chkdsk,  got  a repair utility to repair registery... etc,  defragmented and everything  I tried every solution found online and  I still  get this error when useing updates.  I even updated my drivers. I tried everything,  s  I even uninstalled my antivirus and tried it again.   I gave up and tried to do a reset  and also tried to whipe everything and do a reset and can not. really odd.

Any insight will be appreciated.

Also on the microsoft website I saw a security update dated 09/25/2017 ( today)  and when trying to manually update it said it did not apply to my pc.  I own a Dell Desktop all in 1 64-bit operating system Product ID 00325-95873-11633-AAOEM touchscreen 24 inch all in one

Hello, I would like to do a factory reinstall but am having some issues. I have an X220 Tablet (4294-CTO) which does not have an optical drive so there are no factory installation discs. There is the Q drive partition that exists though which I would expect to be able to use. When I use the restart program it does not seem to find the recovery information on the drive. When I restart the computer and launch the standalone recovery application it gives the option for a factory reset, but then when I confirm it just restarts the computer taking me to the windows reset options where there is not an option to do a factory reset.  Can you please help me figure out how to get a factory reset accomplished? Kind regards,Gurt

I have been having an issue with my laptop the bast week, when ever I try to start it up it gets stuck on either the Lenovo start up page itself or on the "preparing automatic repair" screen, when it freezes it has the Lenovo logo as well as red lines "shadowing" the logo. I was directed to the OKR and to click the option system recovery which in the end just places me in the same problem, is there any more options besides sending it in to Lenovo?

Answer:G50-45 Factory reset issues

Hi Reckz,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

If the OKR Procedure completed but still gave you the same no boot issue,
I strongly suggest you contact the Hardware team for assistance, It might be an issue with the HDD.

You can also try an OS repair here
http://www.kapilarya.com/fix-do-inbox-corruption-repair-using-dism-in-windows-8
Instead of the Powershell to type in the commands you can also do the same using Command prompt,
If in case you had this screen, here's how you can get to a command prompt window

You will need to click on the Advanced options button, followed by Troubleshoot, and finallyAdvanced options. On this screen you can select other tools to use to diagnose your problem.

Hey there,I was having an issue with my S3-392 whereby it would not shut down or sleep.  It would just stay half on whereby the screen was black but the fan would stay on and it wouldn't fully shut down.  I eventaully managed to shut it down but when I restarted it, it wouldn't load the OS.It's out of warranty so took it to a computer repair shop who said that the OS was corrupted and would need to be reinstalled.  I agreed for them to go ahead and do this.  Since I've gotten it back I have realised that the sound volume/quality is v poor.  Obviously seeing as the reloading of the OS (Windows 10) wouldn't have had all the original Acer software/drivers then the original sound software is now gone.  Is there anywhere I can download some decent sound drivers? Also, the laptop no longer recognises my wireless mouse.  Is there something I can do about that?  Or do I just need to buy a new mouse? Many thanks!

So I recently installed linux on my Surface Pro, but decided to go back to Windows 8 since wifi doesn't work properly yet. I thought, restoring shouldn't be a big deal, just insert the recovery USB you made and factory reset it. Boy, was I wrong. Any time I try a factory reset, it fails around 97%-99%. Windows won't even start booting. I kept trying it until I decided to try installing Ubuntu on it then trying to reset it again, hoping that would fix something. Well, it helped a little. The reset still fails at the same point, but now instead of not booting, it says "Recovery: Your PC needs to be repaired." At first it was because an EFI file was missing, so I booted into the recovery drive again and tried an auto-recovery. It fixed the EFI issue, but it's still at the same screen with \Windows\System32\config\system missing. Can anyone help me get my Surface Pro working again? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Surface Pro Factory Reset Issues

Welp, I tried to reset it a few more times, but now the "Recovery: Your PC needs to be repaired" screen doesn't even show up. It just goes straight to the UEFI firmware menu. I'm thinking about replacing it under warranty, because I have a yellow spot on my screen in the bottom right corner anyways from the adhesive not being applied right.

I have a G50-80 latop which was upgraded to Win10 quite a while ago. Recently it started having trouble with hardware and software that once worked not working any longer. I decided to use the factory reset option to take the system back to Win8.1. Before doing this I uploaded the more critical of my user files to a cloud service and created a Windows system recovery image to an external SSD connecterd via USB. I also created a system recovery CD. Once I felt all was safe, I pushed the little button and began the factory reset. It worked beautifully, the system came up in Win8.1. However, the files I had uploaded to the cloud didn't fully propagate, and I needed to restore the Win10 image to get them back. After many attempts to get the Win10 upgrade to work, I was finally able to boot Win10 and restore from the system image from the SSD. I found the files and more securely saved them for later access. Now, I needed to perform one more factory reset to bring the system back to Win8.1. But, the operations to do so resulted in the system rebooting back to the Win8.1 installation. It was not able to start the factory reset. Some reading on the internet indicates that if the HD partitions are written to by software other than the Lenovo OneKey tools that any attempt to use the factory paritions to do a reset would fail with the symptoms I was seeing. Using the Win10 disk management tool, I can see that there are 6 paritions on my HD. They are called "Reco... Read more

May be caused by some outdated drivers.

When you will be back on the computer, post it following the Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions. Attach the data in your next post.

Hi all,
I've been attempting to do a factory reset on my sister's Acer Aspire but have been running into issue after issue. Starting with issues getting a working usb boot drive, got that sorted then it turned out her product key wouldn't work so I bought a new one. Now when I enter the key and select the non-custom option to install I get this message: "The computer started using the Windows installation media. Remove the installation media and restart the upgrade. [Do not select Custom [advanced] to perform an upgrade. Custom ]advanced] installs a new copy of Windows and deletes your programs and settings."
So I removed the usb drive and attempted a restart only to discover I can't get Ctrl-Alt-Del to work on her laptop....grrrrr. I tried exiting the install and load again without usb but of course that justs takes me back to the start of the whole process. Then I read somewhere to make sure that your usb drive is not the main choice in BIOS for reboot...check and still can't get past this error message. I can't access any other methods on the desktop as have no desktop as of yet! Please, please help, I've run out of ideas :(

Need to go to http://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers and enter Aspire S3-392 for the model. You may need to select Windows 8.1 & ALL from the dropdowns to find the audio driver. Bluetooth drivers exist for both 8.1 and 10.

Hi all -I know I am talking about a very old machine but I am hoping there is someone out there that would be willing and able to provide helpful  advice - some background -  in my dire need I purchased a 'refurb' Lenovo Thinkpad T400 from who now turns out to be an unreputable seller - I was silly enough not to worry about recovery disks or even a 30 day warranty - now I am paying dearly for my negligence.  This machine has had issues from day one that I thought I could work my way thru reading forums, Lenovo site etc. but nothing has worked.  My first challenge was trying to just get the right-click on touchpad to produce context menu - I searched and searched and reluctantly loaded 3rd party softwares to no avail.  I gave up on that only to discovered that when I loaded any antimalware program my cursor would not open that program nor would it open any other program on the machine. So I uninstalled the antimalware. So I can't really run to see if I have a virus.  To make a long story short right now NONE of the function keys work nor the THINKVANTAGE.  When I reboot and attempt to go to safe mode, bios utility I get nothing except opening up windows where sometimes the cursor will open a program or not and the trying to open programs from the start menu or the task bar is hit or miss same happens in the start menu and trying to open a browser.  I am running on Windows 7 Pro 64-bit and would like to go back to factory settings, but ag... Hello, I am trying to attempt a factory reset on a Windows XP Professional Dell Latitude D600. Unfortunately, the computer was previously owned by another company and has a login which I do not know the username/password to. The laptop does NOT have a CD drive and I am using a USB drive to attempt to fix the laptop. If the factory reset does not work, I will be trying to install Ubuntu. I do not have a Windows disk to repair/reset the computer.

On startup (without any other bootup USB drives), it would allow me to access the login screen but I would not be able to get through as I do not know the password/username. I have already tried using Ophcrack (no users would show when loaded), Offline NT Password & Registry Editor (no Windows installation was found), and Trinity Rescue Kit (no Windows installation was found). I have also tried to install Ubuntu with no success. I have tried to use Crtl + F11 / F11 to access a "System Restore" which did not work during startup. (Dell does not have this feature on some of its older laptops, not sure.)

Key Information:
- Windows XP Professional
- Dell Latitude D600
- Unknown password/username
- Password recovery software failed to work
- Failed to install Ubuntu, other programs failed to see hard drive as valid Windows installation (despite loading up as Windows normally)
- Factory reset option unable to be reached from boot menu

I will try to respond to any requests or questions as soon as I can.

Hello! I'm having some major problems with my laptop and I was hoping for some troubleshooting assistance. A short history, first. You can skip down to the bold if you don't think you need any context.

A few weeks ago I started getting regular BSoD (not the one I'm reporting now) on my Acer laptop, as well as errors when attempting to write to the drive, followed by the dreaded 'click of doom'. I knew I was dealing with a failing hard drive so I immediately purchased a new one and backed up data manually (I also keep a regular backup via Acronis).

The new hard drive arrived, I hooked it in and attempted to restore the full Acronis backup. No good, backup corrupt. Of course I don't have another one, that's way too smart for me. Fine, I think - I'll use Acronis' drive clone to copy everything over directly, since the failing hard drive still has some spins left. That didn't work either, as Acronis gets totally jacked up when it has to talk to bad sectors.

At this point I switched to Clonezilla, which 'worked' but did what I found out over another eight hours of troubleshooting was nearly irreparable damage to the MBR or file structure on the fresh drive. The only thing I could do with the new drive at this point was run Acer's factory reset from the recovery partition, which somehow arrived intact on the new drive.

So I did that, and miraculously it worked. I began transferring files back over from my manual backup, and reinstalling programs, starting with Steam and... Read more

So my phone (Lumia 640) was hit with the restart bug. I was left with no option but to do a factory reset. I went through the proper procedures: I (somehow) managed to verify that my phone had created a backup of my apps and settings. I removed the SD card, just in case. Etc, etc.
However, after the reset, upon attempting to download my backups, I was met with several problems.
The first, OneDrive apparently has no backup for me to access. I've tried numerous times but there seems to be no backups to be had.
The second, several apps I had had installed are, seemingly, no longer available on the Windows store.
So what am I to glean from all this? Because of some poorly coded bull**** leading to an OS or firmware bug, I've lost a hefty chunk of personal data and cherished applications, despite using MS's 'backup' feature?*
*(if this sounds hostile, it's likely because it is. I'm very agitated by this.)
I still have the SD card, unformatted. However, there seems to be no meaningful way for me to recover what is on it. At least, not in any way that my phone will recognize.
Any advice anyone can give, besides dropping this piece of junk and getting an Android?

Hi ppl,

My home network has 4 computers(including mine) running windows 7, and all of them are connected to the same router/access point for internet connection. When I created a homegroup, and went to add the other computers, they created another homegroup and the other 3 computers are now in the same homegroup. However on my side, it detects no computers. I clicked "leave homegroup", and it detected no homegroup on the network. The other 3 computers are on the same homegroup and are able to share files and printers. I cannot join the homegroup when i click homegroup in windows explorer it only says there is no homegroup on the network and asks me to create a homegroup. Does anyone know a solution to this problem? I badly need to share the printers and files across my home network.

Answer:Help with HomeGroup Issues, cannot detect other computers on homegroup

Hi,welcome to Seven Forums.

Make sure you all have the same default gateways, and that the prefered dns server ip address is the same on all the pc's.

Open your network and sharing settings, click on network and sharing, properties, choose ipv4,properties and make sure all the i.p's are entered correctly and match on the rest of the pc's(apart from the first one which is each pc's own i.p)

Not sure if this is the problem, hope it helps, and please reply with the results. Hope someone else can help you better

Answer:Factory Restore V Factory Reset V System Recovery

Factory Restore is to the state it was when you first got it.
You will then need to run 4 years worth of Windows Updates bit by bit - don't be tempted to allow Windows to update them all in one go. Choose them in block of say 10, chronologically, restarting the system carefully each time.

How can you not know which OS you're running? You're posting in the Windows 7 forum so I assume it's Windows 7, but there are several editions - Home, Pro, Ultimate, 32-bit, 64-bit, etc.If you just did the recovery, how can you not remember the password that you just created? Are you sure you even entered one during the re-installation? Did you try leaving it blank? Why not just run the recovery again but this time, pay closer attention!message edited by riider

You haven't mentioned which model laptop you have so all I can do is point you towards the generic method of restoring it as shown on Asus's website: http://support.asus.com/Troubleshoo..."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." Pink Floyd

Wanted to,start over and reset to factory reset. Laptop keeps saying issue encountered and restart. Restart just keeps rebooting and can never get restarted.  Attempts to interrupt restart and pursue option menu for other types of resets all fail. All attempt to reset to various levels. But then laptop just stope after 40-63% of the way complete and circles me back to there was an issue and restart. cannot get back to any other screens.

Answer:X1 Carbon won't reset to factory or any other reset point

did you try spaming F8 on boot depending what os it is, is it windows 7, 8 or 10? if 8 or 10 then spam F8 untill you get advanced boot menu and then do the reset there since reset should go through as long recovery partition is still there but if it also fails then it's mostlikely recovery partition is damaged and cannot be used so then you would have to request a recovery USB off lenovo by buying one so you can reset your laptop.

I'm going to reset my PC because I have corrupt audio drivers. Will the bootup times be the same if I chose to reset with my files instead of a factory reset? Will I remove potential viruses and such? What i'm trying to ask is what advantages do I get when factory reseting.

Answer:Factory reset vs reset keeping files

Doing a Factory Reset/Restore will set the computer back to its As-Shipped condition, may lose everything added after the initial setup when you got it. Your data files may or may not be saved, I've had it work both ways and on different brands so be sure you have saved what exists nowhere else and have the discs or downloads to re-install the programs you added along with the installation keys for those that need them along with user names and passwords.

The only thing that doesn't work on my Helix 3XXX is the mouse driver ever since the update from the System Update program a long time ago. I'm sick of using Windows' mouse driver -- it's a pain. I want to reset the mouse Symantics driver back to what shipped with the Helix without resetting the entire computer. There is no partition on the hard disk. I found a folder called Drivers --> WIN --> UNAV and found a Synaptics file. Unfortunately, it was the updated one that doens't work well. Is there any way to get the original driver that came with the system that is not the updated one?

Question: Reset homegroup

I had a network with 1 home group. The primary computer that housed the Home Group I did a clean install on. I installed Windows 7 64 bit Ultimate. The other computers on the network are wirelessly connected laptops.

I did not unjoin the laptops from the home group before I did the clean install. I have subsequently un joined all the laptops.

When I go into Home Group on the newly installed Windows computer it says that " Brian on the-core has already created a homegroup would you like to join it. " the-core is the name of the computer that I did the clean install on that originally had the Home Group. Obviously that home group is no longer in existence. How do I erase the settings that are telling the computer in the network that there is a homegroup in existence when there is not?

Hopefully that makes sense. Thanks in advance

Answer:Reset homegroup

It turned out there was one computer on the network that I had forgotten to UNjoin. As soon as I did that, miraculously the primary clean computer read "there's no homegroup on the network" - problem SOLVED!

Some other posts suggested to delete files from:
C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking
(make sure to have hide hidden files unchecked)

(I didn't even have that directory, but may help others in the future)

Is there a way to completely reset HomeGroup feature without reinstalling OS?

I created a homegroup on one computer, but there were troubles with it (computers did not see each other etc.), so I deleted homegroup.

But problem is that it shows me "you have been invited to join a homegroup", despite that all computers are already disconnected from that homegroup (it does not exist anymore). So I cannot create new homegroup on that computer.

I have tried to clear C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking folder, but that did nothing.

Computer with an issue is connected via cable.

Answer:Completely reset HomeGroup

Hello mate,

Homegroup will function that way. It will see that another computer is on the local network and ask if you want to link them. It doesn't matter which computer starts the connection. If one computer askes to "join", then the other will not. If you do want to connect, click join. if not, don't worry over it. If it asks to join, you AREN'T connected to a homegroup (at least with that computer)

If ever you see something that reads "Leave homegroup", then click it to leave.

Hi everyone, I installed ubuntu and GRUB, then I wanted to go back to factory so I tries one key recovery but GRUB is still there how can I uninstall it and set everything like when bought. Onekey recovery only reinstalls windows 8. Thanks !

Answer:How to factory reset and reset partition

hi alexdarkdark,

Welcome to the Lenovo Forums.

You may need to fix the MBR or recreate the BCD file to remove GRUB.

If you have installed Windows in legacy mode, try to:
1. Download a Windows 8 ISO (90 day trial) and follow this guide on how to create a bootable DVD/USB.
2. Boot from the Windows 8 DVD/USB that you created and on Step 1 and follow this guide on how to fix the BCD.

Note:
Backup important files and create a recovery drive before proceeding..

Regards

Is the windows 8.1 reset the same as factory reset?  trying to get rid of some pesky viruses so would a reset remove them if a reset is not the same as a factory reset? Also within the windows 8.1 reset, it asked for a couple of options.  When it says "repartition", would that destroy the currently existing partitions or no?the second option asks for whether to keep all the files within the partition or to clean them.  is there an option to clean only selected partition?

Answer:Hard Reset/Factory Reset

Nope any app u bought is tied with your MS account so they will just show up as owned and will allow you to install them again without any further complications.
In fact the os will start download queing all ur installed apps after ur hard reset.

Basically the way it works in my home, is i get the latest hardware and then i hand down my mobo, cpu, GPU to my kids each of which have their own gaming pc's and their own Microsoft accounts All running Win10... I'd like to have a homegroup running so that we can share video's among machines.

However when i go into HomeGroup on my new build (Win10 Creators Edition 64bit, clean install) its saying xxxx i7 2600k (machine name) is running the homegroup.

Except the i7 2600k isn't even running on the network anymore under that name. Its now associated with my son's Microsoft account.. I did run services.msc and made sure two services, HomeGroup Listener and HomeGroup Provider, on that machine, are both turned off. This machine would have been upgraded to Win10 from 7 a while back, then used my son's credentials on his own microsoft account.

Where is it pulling that xxxx i7 2600k is running the homegroup ? it must be being broadcast from somewhere, as its an old homegroup that's not been in use for a while now. How do i reset it. I do not have an option to delete or leave any homegroup on any machines.. Actually thinking about it, no homegroups have ever been setup on win10, only Win7, so that was a while back... I want to delete any pre-existing homegroup settings and start from scratch, but i can't seem to find an easy way to do it.

Bottom line, i want to delete anything that is preexisting, then create a new homegroup from my new i7 7700k machine.. but going into homeg... Read more

I want an 'out of the box' Windows 10 experience with my Surface Pro 3. My initial thoughts were:
1. Put the stuff I want to keep on a USB or 2,
2. Go to my settings (in Windows 8.1) and factory reset my SP3 to like what it comes with when you first buy it.
3. Install necessary updates until ' Get Windows 10' app appears.
4. Free Upgrade to Windows 10 via app.
5. Once upgraded to Windows 10, load USB files onto Surface Pro 3. Done.
But now I just realised a different way of doing it and I think most people would do it this way:
1. Put important stuff in safe place. (eg. USB stick, OneDrive or other cloud service)
2. Open ' Get Windows 10' app and Free Upgrade to Windows 10.
3. Once upgraded to Windows 10 then factory reset from Settings. (in Windows 10)
4. Put important files (Writing, Visual Studio, Minecraft, Civ 5 and that's about all I need I think) from USB (or wherever you put them) back onto computer. Done.
Which way is the best way for me to do it? I did click 'reserve' in the 'Get Windows 10' app so I may have preloaded Windows 10 files on my SP3 already. Am I right about most people doing it the second way?

Hello, this is my first post so I hope I explain this correctly. I bought a new Alienware 15 which came preinstalled with Win 8.1, I updated to W10 and after a lot of updates and messing in W10 I got it to work really well. Over the weekend I took the most current W10 main update and it screwed my computer up (black screens, for ever boot ups, lost 2nd HDD upon restarts, etc) so I decided to factory restore Win 8.1 and then go back to Win 10 from there. Anyway, after going through the Alienware Respawn program to get back to Win 8.1. Once the restore was complete I started to log in where I received a message that I must be online to log in the first time. After clicking on the network icon in the lower left corner there was no network to show up which means that my network drivers either didn't migrate during the restore or my network card isn't working period. Anyway, is there a method to side step the log in or to update the drivers outside of the system. Otherwise my $2k gaming laptop bought less than a month ago is a 8 pound paper weights.

Question: Factory Reset

I am planning to do a factory reset on my computer, but I am pretty sure I installed Windows 7 after purchase of my computer and I want to know if I will lost it (I no longer have the disk).  If it will not reinstall 7, will it resinstall whatever originally came with the computer?  Also, if I installed Microsoft Word after purchase will I lose it as well?

Answer:Factory Reset

A factory reset means setting it back to how it came from the factory. There is no kind of 'smart' option to recover other materiel you added later. You can try and make a backup copy of everything to external storage. But you will not get it all back like your once had it. Your personal data can be saved and restored, but not programs that integrate into the OS.

Hi, I have an X1 Carbon Touch 3443 that I purchased at retail, so it came with a Windows 8 license. I used this computer for work, and had to install Windows 8 Enterprise to comply with company policies. As such, I wiped the machine (including original recovery partitions) and installed the corporate image. Now that I've left the company, Windows is informing me that I no longer have an activated license. My question is, how can I get the system back to the retail purchased state? I shouldn't have to purchase a license at retail since this machine came with one. Can I download an recovery image or purchase a recovery USB drive? Can support provide me with the original Windows license key?  Thanks!

Question: Factory Reset Help

I'm trying to reset my computer to factory settings. Advent 7113 Intel Celeron 1.73GHz. The supposed way to do this is to press f10 repeatedly on startup until a "preparing system restore" message appears. This does not happen for me however. A "edit boot options" option appears instead, and then a commant prompt. Am I pressing the wrong function key? How can I successfully restore to factory settings? Thanks in advance

Answer:Factory Reset Help

This is from the support site for your laptop:

Your Advent computer uses the latest recovery system that doesn't require any CDs or DVDs to restore your PC to it's original factory condition.

There are two ways to start the recovery:

Restart your computer. Then Press F10 repeatedly until the message "Starting System Recovery" is displayed.

In Windows by clicking: Start / All Programs / System Recovery / System Recovery.

The recovery will load and display a box with one option:

Non-destructive recovery: this option will restore Windows, supplied applications, and drivers. This option will not destroy your documents or programs. These will be backed up along with the registry. These are restored at the end of the recovery process.

To access the recovery options below that erase all data from the computer, click the Advanced button.

System Recovery - No format: this will reinstall Windows, supplied applications and drivers. It will move your files to a folder called "My old disk structure". Any applications (except those supplied) will need to be reinstalled.

System Recovery - Quick format: this option will erase your hard drive including your personal files. Windows, supplied applications and drivers will be reinstalled.

Select the Non-destructive recovery option and press Next.

You will be informed about System Restore in Windows, click Yes.

The recovery will begin. Once this is complete click Restart.

I'm hoping for a solution to what has slowly turned into a nightmare, laptop originally came with Windows 7, upgraded to Win 10 online using an outlook.com account as log in verification.

After a 6 week holiday I inadvertently entered the wrong outlook.com password too many times and consequently was locked out of Windows 10. After attempting all recovery options without success I was advised by Microsoft the only option is a factory reset.

Having copies of all files from my hard drive I Googled how to reset Toshiba to factory settings which looked simple enough, holding down Zero while turning on - wait for the beep and follow the instructions, unfortunately after the beep Windows continues to load.

It would appear the factory reset data has been overwritten or is not applicable for Win 10.

Further Googling and the best suggestion I can find is to buy the reset media from Toshiba, unfortunately it seems they only supply that media up to Windows 8.1.

I am at a loss what my next steps should be, it would seem only option is to buy a copy of Win 10 but before I go down that road thought I'd ask if anyone can help?

Thanks in advance

Tony

Well, the system did come with a Recovery option, but since the Windows 10 up grade it probably will not longer function with the F11 key.  The one option is to do a Windows 10 reset or a clean reinstall using the Windows 10 Download tool

hi i have a vye mini v laptop which i want to do a factory reset could someone guide me through it please, i have already saved everything i want.

Answer:help with factory reset

Hello RodIve been looking around and found a manual to the S37 version and it looks like you have a restore/recovery option via the F8 after startup.Once the logo has disappeared upon bootup, tap F8.This is safemode with an option to repair the computer, this will also give the option to restore to factory settings. If this is your model (others maybe similar) i recommend you read this manual; For the full Vye S37 User Manual click here

Question: factory reset

i have a acer aspire 5920g laptop and i would like to know how i would find out if it has a partition in the hard drive which contains this factory reset as it says in the booklet that came with it. Have tried the alt + f10 and writing comes up but nothing else. If i do what it say it just starts up the same as i have at the moment. has it been wiped of or is it still there and i'm doing something wrong

Answer:factory reset

If windows still boots and functions there may be a acer folder under program files that will have a utility to run this and cause the next boot to use the D: ( system restore partition ) to rebuild C: from. Acer use to have this on their computers, but Acer got bought out and another owner may have changed this. According to here http://community.acer.com/t5/2012-Archives/how-do-I-access-the-recovery-partition/td-p/8261   you are trying to start it correctly, however if the D: partition is damaged you will need to contact Acer to purchase the recovery media. You may also have to replace the hard drive if its not just corruption, but is damaged physically such as bad sectors. It sounds like the D: partition is missing the information to carry out the process and so its defaulting back to C: after an error.

Question: Factory reset

How can i reset my pc? I can't find Recovery Disc on package and Recovery manager won't reset my pc.

Answer:Factory reset

Hi,What about tapping f11 key as soon as you power on laptop? If you've upgraded to Windows 10 from 7/8/8.1 previously, recovery partition may have got corrupted. Your only way to factory reset is to order recovery USB specific for your model from HP directly and boot from it to factory reset.RegardsVisruth

Question: Factory reset

Hello, a week ago I purchased this computer. Everything has been fine and my friend insisted since it's used, do a reset and clean everything. I started the reset  yesterday between 2-3:00 pm. It's been nearly 24 hours and it says "resetting this PC 1%." I don't know what to do? Any help would be extremely appreciated. The warranty ran out on Feb. 6th as well.

Answer:trying to do a factory reset and cant

Dell restore disks are sold online. (Google for vendors.)

You will need the product key off the sticker on your Dell. The Dell site shows where to find those.

I wanted to buy norton but by the time I was about to the internet was innaccessable and now I figured I have nothing on my laptop really that I could just factory reset the laptop... well that wont work it says Unable to remove personal documents. Or something alone those lines. So now I dont know what my next step is... please help

Answer:Factory Reset

What's the model name and model number of your Dell, and what's the 7-character "service tag/serial" number on it?

Using a third-party antivirus app (Norton, McAfee, AVG, etc.) in Windows 10 can cause problems, especially when trying to install an upgrade/update.
My advice is to stick with its built-in antivirus app, Windows Defender.

I'm not qualified to help you in the "Virus & Other Malware Removal" section with infection issues, so be patient until one of the specialists here replies.
This section is very busy, so you may not get a reply for 24 - 48 hours.

Question: Factory reset help

Hi, im trying to factory reset my computer because i'm just tired of having a full HD, and random software from years ago. Anyways, my current OS is Windows 7 and I have an Alienware m15x. Now i've read up on a few ways to restore this specific computer, however, I don't have the installation disc, AlienRespawn/DellDataSafe does not appear when press f8 at boot menu, and i don't have a factory system image to recover from apparently. So with this being said, Is there anyway to factory reset? I have a bootable USB drive with windows 7 recovery on it, but I need a system image or something I believe.

EDIT:I've also tried download AlienRespawn Win 7 patch off of alienware.com but when I try to use it it says "Change.MBR failed"

Answer:Factory reset help

Hi Deathwishxvi,

Are you actually looking to reset your computer's setting to original factory settings?

or... clear clutter in your hard disk (i.e. files, software, etc...)?

Question: Factory Reset?

Hi i have a "Gericom 1st supersonic PCI E KN1 series laptop" and been having major problems with it,
i was just wondering if there was a factory reset button on it anywhere? and if so where?

Answer:Factory Reset?

you can do factory reset of the laptop, by disconnecting CMOS battery(while laptop turned off and if main battery and charger disconnected too) and reconnecting it again. if you wish to remove password you can try this procedure, but in 99% cases it won't help.

Download from another PC a browser installer, maybe you will need to find an old version if windows xp is the installed OS, since it's no more supported. Firefox:https://support.mozilla.org/t5/Documents-Archive/How-can-I-get-the-latest-version-of-Firefox-on-Wind...
