Cannot connect on Windows 7, Vista working fine

Question: Cannot connect on Windows 7, Vista working fine

Hi guys

I have had the same internet for several years now, and it has always been working fine on both my windows 7 PC and vista laptop. However, I now have a problem connecting on Windows 7, sometimes it says the pass phrase is incorrect (even though its not) and other times it just says there was a problem connecting to the internet.

The only way I am able to connect to my windows 7 PC is if i change my router security to OPEN or WEP. It is currently on WPA2-PSK.

I have done a DNS Flush and took a screen of ipconfig /all.

Any ideas what can be causing this issue?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Cannot connect on Windows 7, Vista working fine

There is no wireless NIC showing up at all in the ipconfig, I see a bunch of extra tunnel adaptors and an Ethernet connection which isn't plugged in.

You should check the Device Manager under Network Adaptors and see if the wireless NIC shows up there or not.

The problem seems to occur after the pc has been on for a while - several hours usually. I can send and receive emails, but can't connect to Google (or anywhere else for that matter). The router lights indicate that the connection is ok. If I reboot, everything seems to work fine again for a few hours.I have deleted cookies and temp files (I do this routinely most days anyway), and have AVG and ZA running. I haven't done anything new or different that I am aware of.Any ideas for sorting this out would be most welcome.

I have really flumoxed myself on this one. Somewhere alonf the line of reinstalling my system last weekend, I have disabled IE. I am running XP Pro, with Agnitum Outpost Firewall and Norton AV 2005. When I connect to Firefox, everything is fine (I'm typing this!) but I cannot connect using IE or Windows Update.I have done a full spyware check, and AV scan but cannot tihnk what is happening. When I look at the system connections in Outpost, IE is not showing up as having either and inbound or outbound connection. Additionally, even though I enable image downloads in Outlook 2003, pics in HTML mail are showing as broken links. I have a new DELL XPS M2010 that I want to connect using wireless card. OS - Vista, Linksys Router, when I try to "Diagnose and Repair" I get the response "Cannot communicate with Primary DNS Server 68.185.34.67".

It's showing an Excellent connection to the route, but will not connect to the Internet. I've tried a few things, such as connecting to other unsecured wireless internet connections and I was able to connect to the Internet then. I also looked at another thread on this site that suggested to add a DNS Server to the list of 192.168.1.1 and nothing happened with that.

Other PCs in the house, all on wireless, connect fine (obviously including the laptop I'm posting on right now). Still searching the forums for similar solutions - here is my ipconfig information:

Answer:Solved: New PC can't connect to Internet (but other PCs working fine)

Open a Command prompt and try these pings. You can show the results the same way you posted the ipconfig /all.

ping 192.168.1.100 (or whatever the current IP address is)
ping 192.168.1.1
ping 68.180.206.184
ping yahoo.com

Do you have the same problem with an ethernet connection?

I just bought this laptop about 10 days ago to use specifically for a writing project separate from my other work laptop. It has Windows 7. It had Google Chrome installed (or maybe my brother installed it upon taking it out of the box.) I have
used IE as my browser on this laptop once or twice, but mostly use Google Chrome. I downloaded some genealogy software I just bought today about an hour or so ago (Family Tree Maker 2012) and noticed that it would not connect to the internet to register- it
kept saying "No internet connection". After trying a few things (allowing the program access through Windows Firewall, checking to make sure that "proxy server" tab was not checked in Internet Settings, disabling some Bing Maps and Windows
Live email accelerators) and finally tried closing Chrome and opening IE to run in background instead. However, IE won't connect - keeps saying "Cant display webpage" although I am definitely connected to internet via wifi. I tried resetting Internet
Explorer...no dice. I've restarted several times. Nothing is working. Any suggestions?
My husband thinks i should uninstall Chrome, which he guesses is causing all the trouble with both IE and the Family Tree software. But I'm afraid that if I uninstall Chrome and it doesnt work, i wont be able to get back on the internet since I can presently
only do so through Chrome.

Answer:IE won't connect to internet, but Chrome is working fine. Other software wont connect to internet either.

Uninstalling Chrome should not be nessesary it does have an agressive default install which should not be used but uninstalling will not fix any issues because chromes uninstall will not change
setting back the way they were before you installed it/ or who ever.
Reset ie9 manually,
Click the Start button on the Taskbar,
Click on Control panel,
Click on Internet options,
Go to the Advanced section,
Click on Reset button on the bottom,
Check the box to Delete personal settings,
Use the recommended setup and install options.

Greetings

I'm not really sure where to post this, please move if needed.

My internet connection is fine, programs such as MSN work, but when I go to either Internet Explorer it displays the 'Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage' notice on every page that I try to connect to, also displays a 'Page loading error' notice on every page that I try to visit.

The problem appeared to start when I installed an update for Firefox, and at the time I had an old version of IE which worked fine, although the updated Firefox did not display any pages, I decided to update to IE8, because the version I had installed was pretty ancient, after which IE also began to display this problem.

I have fiddled with my firewall settings, to no avail.

Incidentally I am now using an old version of MSN explorer, which works to display webpages (which is how I am managing to post this!) I am guessing it is something to do with the updates, although I'm not an expert.

Any clues as to what I can do to fix it (I don't want to be stuck with this awful MSN browser!)

Thanks in advance
Laurens

Answer:Internet connection working fine, browsers can't connect to any sites.

Try opening a command window (type cmd into yor run box and click ok)
Then type 'netsh winsock reset' and hit enter.
You should get a message 'successfully reset winsock catalogue' or similar.
then restart your computer

Last night my newly aquired c460 all in one just lost connection to my router. Was working flawlessly with full signal and great speed, then disconnected and can not connect to the router although it can see it. I can access the internet to update drivers out anything like that, although I don't think that drivers are the issue as it was working with no issues and suddenly can no longer connect. I bought the computer used so I have done a hard reset after among other things in an attempt to fix the issue but still same problem. Sees router, asked me to enter parade (which I know is correct) attempts to connect but then says can't connect to this network. I'm running Windows 8.1 I believe and have turned off the McAfee firewall. I have no idea what to try now. Thanks in advance

Answer:Lenovo C460 can not connect to this network, was working fine last night.

Managed to figure it out. For some reason the option for microsoft lldp protocol driver was unchecked under the wifi properties. Not sure what it means but I checked the box and voila, wifi is back. Hope this helps someone.

SOLUTION: In typical techie fashion as soon as i ask for help I solve the problem. I did crtl + r -> ncpa.cpl -> properties -> configure -> advanced -> network access -> Type in the unique address seen for the network adapter when ipconfig is run, type it without dashes. This worked immediately.

My PC is Windows 8.1 and it hasn't had internet issues before. Last night it stopped connecting to the internet. This morning is has been the same. Wireless connections are working fine but my desktop doesn't have a wireless card so i need to fix the wired issue with it.

I've tried the ethernet cable on other devices and they work, so i think it must be PC settings. I PC restored to last night 7pm and it didn't fix it. I've tried ipconfig /release and /renew and it didn't work. I've tried uninstalling AVG and turning off firewalls. I still am getting the yellow triangle with "no internet access"

IPv4 Address 192.168.0.7
Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway 192.168.0.1

I've tried updating network card drivers and disabling and re-enabling it. Anyone able to help please?

Cheers,
Xander

and welcome to the Forum

Lets take a peek at your network environment:

First:

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Then:

Remove all the stored wireless network profiles and search for the network again.

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if found here's how.

Then:

I've had and HP Compaq since September of 08, and I've had lots of problems with it. The most recent and the most bothersome is that the "connect to" icon isnt't working, it does nothing when I hover over it or click on it. All my other icons work, except this one. When I go to the start menu and click "connect to" it opens a window that never loads anything and says "connect to" on it, also it the window is a different size than the normal size of the box, it's larger. While my other icons work, this same problem happens (a window appears but never finishes loading). As the title states, I am using Windows Vista, it was installed on the Laptop when i bought it. My Norton isn't updated. Also maybe 1/10 times after I get through the login screen to my desktop, after a lengthy load I'm presented with a blank black screen with my mouse in it. I'm in college and I have no money so, updating my virus software is out of the question, so it tech support, my warranty is recently expired so I can't do anything. I've sent in in because of problems twice before, once the screen was broken, and it wasn't turning on, save the fact that the "on" button was on.

Answer:Connect To icon not working on Windows Vista

Do you have an "always on" internet connection (DSL/Cable)? If so, you don't need to "connect to" anything, your already connected.

HiI have connected my XP Laptop and Vista Desktop together in a network wirelessly. I used to be able to access files and folders both ways with no problems. Today problems have occured.Basically, when I try to access files on my Vista Desktop from the Laptop, I get a usually Networking error:click hereHowever, this only happens to the user account folders. Those who have Vista will know that there is also a folder named: 'Public'. This folder is strange. I CAN access it from my Laptop, but the others which are my Document my bros and my parents are blocked. Here is another pic showing what I mean:click here The STRANGE thing is that I can access XP file from Vista Desktop freely. I'm saying that this is the first time it has happened, meaning it cant be any setting up, installation error. Also, I doubt it can be my firewall since 'Public' is not blocked and Vista can access XP so...WHAT IS the PROBLEM????!!Thanks. Help Appreciated

Answer:Working fine up until today...(vista)

Is Vista not asking for a user name and password to access the network ? File sharing is controlled by the firewall , public folder sharing isn't , have another look at the firewall , also make sure of your settings in Network and Sharing Centre . Ashley

I work at a small office where we have a large Ricoh Alfico 3035 Network Printer. We had just relocated to a new office and I set everything up and it was working fine. Today I tried to move over to a new DSL Connection through AT&T, (the free T1 line in the office was too slow), so I ran an IPCONFIG and reinstalled the printer using the new IP. This worked fine as usual on the Vista Machines, but when I set up the TCP/IP port on the XP machines I get a print error.

I'm lost because I've done this many times before and have never had a problem.

Here is step by step what I'm doing on the XP:

Control Panel -> Printers and Faxes -> Add A Printer -> Local Printer -> Create New Port -> Standard TCP/IP port

I input the IP 192.168.15.0, Install the correct driver, and when I get done it asks me to print a test page. That's when I get the error.

I'm using the same exact settings I used on the Vista Machines which are working fine.

Any help would be great,

Thanks

Edit: This is my first time on here, so hey everybody!

I have tried a number of fixes from different forums and so far nothing has worked. I'm working off the same wireless network for both, I have had the Vista computer for about a year, and the internet as worked relatively well until about two days ago. The problem existed before I installed SP1 and has persisted after the install.

Can somone work with me on this to figure out what the problem is? Thanks.

Hello,

I've got a Dell laptop here that isn't functioning properly. I can't get this to work for the life of me! I am currently using this laptop with a different hard drive, it's the install on the SSD that doesn't work. I know that the quick fix would be to simply reload windows, but I don't want the quick fix.

Basically, laptop works with Windows 7 install on a hard drive, no issues. On the SSD, where the ONLY applications loaded are Office 2013 and Firefox (and all the latest updates), the internet does not work (I can ping yahoo.com and get a response, so DNS is fine). The problem persists on IE and Firefox. I have no AV software other than MSE, and the problem persists in Safe Mode w/ networking. The hosts file is clean. The internet worked on the computer just fine when I loaded it, I hadn't used the SSD in a while and when I popped it in, the internet wasn't working. I believe something is getting in the way of port 80, but I can't figure out what. I have disabled all startup applications and all nonwindows services. The computer does not have bonjour. I have cleared history/cookies to no avail. I can't find anything suspicious in the running processes. I can't seem to turn off the windows antimalware process to test that, though.

Any ideas?

I decided to run hijack this and found two BHO's. It's funny that on my new install that I used a handful of times, I have adware, but on this install that's been going for years, I have nothing. Oh well. So I had "Crossrider" and "Coupon Companion". I removed all traces of both, yet still no go. It looks like this managed to install itself on 12/2... which had to be damn close to the date that I bought the SSD, however, I had internet activity as recent as 12/26. Hi,

I have a couple of Windows XP computers and a couple of Vista computers. I share files, printers etc. and it all runs great.

One of the family has been away, and now they have come back their laptop won't connect to the XP computers. It connects to the Vista (and Win7) computers just fine.

It must be something wrong with the laptop, as my other Vista/Win7 computers connect fine to the XP ones perfectly.
I have tried disabling firewalls.

The error I get is:
Windows Cannot Access \\COMPNAME

If I click diagnose I get:
"COMPNAME" is not a valid hostname

The laptop is running Windows Vista Home 32bit with SP1, using it's wireless connection. One of the XP machines is wireless, the other is wired and both are XP Pro 32bit with SP3.

Can anybody help me out please?
Many thanks...

Answer:Windows Vista laptop not connecting to XP machines. Other vista computers are fine...

I have a similar issue with my new Vista 64 Home Premium HP Laptop as well
Actually I can see the share folders from the XP (to the laptop) but I get a access error when vista trys to connects to the XP Desktop.

It could be norton but it seems unlikely...as the XP connect ok to the Vista Laptop

after some googles and so forth I have not found a soultion yet

I have a Windows 7 desktop computer to which a local printer is attached and shared via my homegroup.

From a Windows 7 laptop I can add a printer. It sees the printer, connects to it, and prints just fine.
From a Windows 8 laptop if I try to add a printer, it searches and sees the printer. When I try to connect to it, it gives me an error, "Windows couldn't connect to the printer. Check the printer name and try again. If this is a network printer, make
sure that the printer's turned on, and that the printer address is connect."
Any suggestions? Again, I can access it and print to it just fine from another laptop, so I know nothing's wrong with the printer itself, the connection to the desktop machine, or the sharing on the homegroup.
Thanks in advance

Answer:Can't connect to Homegroup printer in Windows 8 -- works fine in Windows 7

Hi,
Please check if your Windows 8 laptop join the HomeGroup successfully.
If yes, after the printer is shared, you can get to it through the Print dialog box in any program, just like a printer that's directly connected to your PC.

Meanwhile, please turn off your Windows 8 firewall and anti-virus temporarily to check the result.

Hey,

I've been doing some online gaming (world of warcraft), and I kept getting these Error#131 issues. This would cause the game files to become corrupted and then I would have to repair, or reinstall. The WoW tech site says that chronic error #131 messages are either a Hard drive, Ram, or Motherboard issue.

Running the Windows Vista memory diagnostic tool has turned up some odd results, the initial test with a 1gb stick in slot #1 and a 1gb stick in slot #2 came back with errors. I then removed the ram from slot 2 and ran the test on slot 1 with 1 stick of ram.... no errors. I did the same with the other stick in slot 1.....no errors. this lead me to believe that it was slot#2 giving me the issue so I moved the ram from slot 2 to slot 3, thus having 1gb of ram in slot 1 and 1gb of ram in slot 3. After a little while......error#131 appeared.

So I then tested both sticks in slots 1 and 3 together and came back with ram errors, I then tested both sticks in slot #1, and then again in slot #2 and both tests came back fine. Any ideas on what this issue could be? I know both sticks are the same brand, speed, totally identical.

Answer:Ram Works fine in single sticks, not working fine together :P

I have found many similar problems to mine, but not the exact one so here goes.

HP Pavilion, Windows 7, 64 bit home premium, i7. Westell 327W wireless router (at&t version)

I have no problem at all connecting to the internet via the wireless connection in my new desktop. But often when I connect with the LAN enabled it simply refuses to connect. The problem is very repeatable with yahoo.com, att.com/speedtest and other sites. I can see and access the rest of my network fine wired only. And on the occasions I have been able to connect, the speed tests are fine.

I just have no idea why it occasionally refuses to connect (have not been able to connect to these sites for several hours now after multiple reboots) via wired and never has any issues over wireless. I have already disabled the router firewall and have the same issue with all non-windows services disabled.

Help!

Answer:Windows 7 machine fine to internet via wireless / won't connect wired

You need to decide whether the problem is with the wired ports on the router or with the computer that is plugged in. Have you got another computer you can plug in to the router?

To cut the long story short, I have an android box on which is installed Servers Ultimate Pro app. I use this app to run a Samba server and share the contents of my 3TB external HDD connected to this box and use it as a media server over the wireless network.
This samba server is accessable from all my machines and devices - Win 7 Laptop, Win XP PC, and various other android devices using ES File Explorer. My Win 7 laptop has started to die on me, so I've got a new Win 8.1 laptop. The 8.1 laptop is unable to access
the samba server. I have tried various popular solutions (almost all the ones listed in http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/5dd9991b-78e7-4fa3-b17c-366e4ae0092f) to no joy. The bizzare thing is that I am able to map the samba server to
a network drive in Win 8.1, I am able to see the size of the samba server (says quiet accurately that 1.54TB free of 2.75TB total), but when I click the icon to open the drive, I get the infamous message: Z:\ is not accessible. The specified server cannot
perform the requested operation.

Of course the solution to the linked issue does not solve my problem since I presume Win 8.1 has this security patch KB2536276 built it and cannot be uninstalled. In order to completely rule out any Windows Update causing this issue, I did a clean reinstall
of Win 8.1 and still got the exact same issue.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Can't connect to Samba from Windows 8. Win 7 and XP work fine. Many popular solutions tried without success.

Turns out that the culprit was not Wndows 8.1 but Servers Ultimate Pro. I tried using SambaDroid (which is free... duh!) and the samba share showed straight up in Win 8.1 laptop!

Hello!

I'm a software consultant and as such travel around to various client sites. At one site I'm working on now my computer now fails to connect to their wireless (it is one of those that says "Unsecured' but once you connect and launch a browser you are prompted for credentials.) I've been successfully connecting with this PC and this network for over a year, but for the past 2 weeks it fails everytime and when I try Troubleshooting it gives me the standard "Wireless Network Connection does not have a valid IP configuration" message.

My first thought when this began was that they had a hardware problem and that their router was failing to assign IP addresses. However, others sitting in the same cube area as me are able to connect to it successfully and I have not once succeeded in two weeks now. Also, I have no problems at all connecting to OTHER wireless networks (home, other clients, Starbucks, a wireless hotspot a co-worker set up here to unblock me the other day, etc.)

I have not found anything in searching online that helps me to determine how to troubleshoot this since it is only related to one single network.

Any ideas?

I am trying to use limewire, couterstrike, bitcomet etc, but nothing apart from firefox/I.E. and windows live messenger can connect to MY internet. everything workd perfectly on my neighbours internet, when accessed from my own laptop. Please help me. Thanks.

Answer:No apps connect to MY internet, but connect fine on my neighbours net?

Try checking out your router setup it may be blocking those programs. You may need to login to the router and "enable" the programs as I notice they are P2P programs and quite often you have to permit their use. Try googling for "enabling p2p on my xxxx router" where xxxx is the make / model number

Hello,
I am experiencing some performance issues on my PC. First of all, here are the specs:
1. Operating system - Windows 7 Ultimate x64 bit.
2. RAM - 6.00 GB (2.00 + 4.00).
3. Graphics card - AMD ATI Radeon HD 5450.
4. Processor - Intel Dual Core (3.00 GHz).

So here's the problem:
Last week I installed the new 4.00 GB RAM to my PC to make it 6.00 GB. The computer was working fine and everything was all right. Yesterday however, I turned my PC on and inserted my pen drive and transferred a .midi file which I played on my Yamaha PSR-S910 to the computer. When I was doing this I noticed that my PC was usually slow.

Next I quickly scanned my computer with the antivirus (I have Trend Micro Titanium) and I downloaded IOBIT advanced system care and did a full fix.

Now, the computer is a very little bit faster but it gives a lot of problems. Please tell me how I can get my old PC speed back...

IOBIT Smart RAM says the CPU usage is 100%! This is very bad (I think).

I have an older desktop, Pavilion 410y.  Upgraded to Windows 10 about 6 or so months ago, and it has been running fine ever since. Last week I re-booted, and it came up in auto repair mode, then locked up on a screen that says to select keyboard layout.  USB keyboard and mouse will not respond.  This seems to have been a very common problem when people first downloaded Windows 10, but I've not seen anyone post about it happening after months of successful use. Tried all the fixes on the interwebs. . . Then called Microsoft.  They say that the Pavilion 410y is no longer compatible with Windows 10.  It was when 10 was released, but with the two automatic updates since, it is no longer.   Microsoft claims I can contact HP and find out what hardware is now incompatible to update it.  I can't find out how to get to that point. . .  At this point, I'm willing to do some low cost hardware fixes just to get me back up and running so I can verify and copy all my stuff, then get another computer soon.  Anyone have any solutions/suggestions/magic? Thanks

I have a HP Pavillion a1640n with Windows 7 Home 32 bit edition installed. I went to use it and it was on, and it had installed updates (even when I specified for it not to, as I had a bad experience before). And it restarted. When it restarted it then was in a Start up recovery loop. When I tried the recovery, it couldn't find anything wrong. I did some research and tried fixing the master boot record which had no effect. I tried the fix for the infinite restarting loop. No effect. I can get to the command prompt when the start up repair fails. I've tried disabling the auto restart after failure and I get the blue screen of death, and it will not start. I can not get it in safe mode either.

So I thought I'll re-install windows. Can't do that because now when I put anything in my CD/DVD drive it restarts the computer over and over and doesn't load anything! I tried getting into command prompt and trying to run it from there, nope it restarts the machine. I am lucky that I can get the cd out of there, and then it starts in the start up repair loop.

Is there a fix for this or is this computer just toast? is there a way in command prompt to disable the CD/DVD drive in case windows updated the driver and it's not compatible?

I've tried a restore point, for it to tell me that there are none and I have not disabled restore points at all in my computer.

I am trying a chkdsk and it's stuck on 19 percent complete so far.

Here are my specs: Pavillion 1640a ... Read more

Answer:Computer working fine until Windows Update

You can chage the Bios boot order. But first disconnect all usb peripherial devices, Printer, Cameras, Ipods. Except keyboard and Mouse. This will allow you to start the computer with the Winodws Cd/DVD. Thus allowing you to run a reapair or completly re-install your Windows OS. Right out of the box, Windows 7 worked just fine. Wireless worked, sound worked, even my wireless mouse worked without having to add any additional drivers.

Next I had Microsoft Update install everything that it thought I needed. Then I installed those Toshiba posted drivers that were specifically designated for Windows 7. That includes the Value Added Package that says it is for Windows 7 64 but installed OK on my Windows 7 32 version. I may install the Toshiba drivers listed for Vista in addition; haven't done that yet.

That was last night.

So far, I am pleased with Windows 7 on my netbook. It is at least as peppy as XP Home Edition if not more so.

No crashes, no blue screen of death.

Cons: well, there are some programs that I use on my desktop that I already know won't work on Windows 7 and probably never will because they are old programs and the publisher has stopped supporting the program.

If I discover any major problems with running Windows 7, I will post the information here.

Answer:Windows 7 Installed On NB205-N311/W, Working Just Fine

Some programs have problems in Win7. If Microsoft know about it, it will display a Compatibility Message and advise to update the software.

Otherwise you can run the programs in XP SP2 mode, but you wont be able to use Virtual XP Mode because the N280 CPU doesn't support Virtualization.

After installing a new Ethernet card, all audio output from my Dell desktop stopped working (front and back). I am using the factory installed Realtek High Definition Audio which is at Location 0 (Internal High Definition Audio Bus). Every diagnostic on the desktop, however, is showing no issues. This includes the volume mixer, the Realtek Audio Manager, Device Manger, the Control Panel's Sound tab and everything else I could find recommended in various online forums. These all show normally functioning audio. This means that when I play something on youtube, or invoke system sounds via Matlab, the mixer shows everything is good, but there is no actual audio output. I have a NVIDIA video card running two monitors, but they are DVI and their sound output is disabled.

Solutions tried:
-Restarting the computer
-Uninstalling driver and reinstalling driver
-Uninstalling driver and reinstalling latest Reaktek driver
-Sound troubleshooter (no issues)
-Fiddling with the Realtek Audio manager advanced settings, connector settings and speaker configuration
-Taking out the new Ethernet card
-Disabling and then re-enabling the reaktek driver
-Disabling and then re-enabling the NVIDIA sound driver
-Plugging into the front jacks
-Plugging into the back jacks
-Plugging into the monitors
-Connecting speakers to the above locations
-Connecting headphones to the above locations

Answer:Windows HIgh CPU usage but only after fine working for some time

Hi All,

still awaiting any answers. Anyways after much waiting I decided to finallly format my LAPTOP and I did it though as i didnt have toshiba recovery cd so i just did the normal formatting using xp professional and downloading the suitable drivers(which is a really tough job i must say). Any ways the point is the problem is still hampering my system which sometimes is smooth and then sometimes becomes very slow with cpu usage going to 100% distributed over task manager/process explorer iexplorer/firefox explorer and services. Although the machine is a bit ok now but still it is way beyond its capability. I have also tried disconnecting my wireless adapter which is cisco aironet but still the situation is same.
Plz anyone help me solve this mess...thanx

Ok so my Lenovo Laptop came w Win 8 which I didn't like so I shrunk the Volume and created a small partition for Win 7. All was working fine.

So, on Friday I ran out of space on the Win 7 partition & I got AOEMI partition manager and shrunk the volume on the Win 8 Partition and merged the new un-allocated space to the Win 7 partition (roughly 850 GB or so). This process however required a restart and the AOEMI program was doing things in pre boot. The pre boot took over a day and the shrinking and merging still wasn't complete so I got impatient and turned my laptop off and restarted it.

So then after restarting the laptop I went into the Win 8 OS and did something called "Allocate Free Space" and added another 20GB from the W8 Partition to the W7 partition and restarted. This process completed pre boot as well but it was very quick and completed successfully.

I was able to still boot into the Win 8 partition but not the Win 7 partition as when I went to the Win 7 OS selector it just kept saying "Attempting Automated Repairs" and showed me a black screen.

I tried to start the Windows repair USB to fix Win 7 but the Win repair utility told me "this version of system recovery options is not compatible" and so I couldn't repair.

Then I was playing around with the "Partition Recovery Wizard" on MiniTool USB boot menu and I selected multiple partitions to recover after it searched for an hour. IT recovered t... Read more

I have a laptop (windows 10) that suddenly stopped accessing a number of different random websites, including this one... saying "server DNS address could not be found". Other websites, such as Facebook and yahoo, it still accesses. It does this on the chrome browser and the IE browser. The tablet I'm typing on right now works fine however, and accesses everything without problem. This morning both were working properly; this is a sudden development.

Answer:Cant access numerous sites on windows 10 laptop; tablet working fine

By the sounds of it your internet service providers main DNS servers are having issues or, network issues. It could be due to your ISP doing network maintenance on their part as well. What can you do? Well instead of using the ISP's DNS you can use a public Google DNS. Inside your router change the DNS to 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4 However, I don't recommend that you permanently change them from your ISP.

Answer:Why does windows media player crash in ie7, vista, but works fine in firefox???

probably an ActiveX error. Try this:

Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Component

uncheck Internet Explorer, then OK to uninstall it.

Reboot, then go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/ie/default.mspx and install a new copy of Internet Explorer.

It wouldn't hurt to try. I had problems viewing PDF's in my IE browser but it was ok with Firefox and Adobe Reader. Reinstalling IE7 did the trick for me.

Answer:Netscape Connect (old Walmart Connect)and Windows Vista

Hi. . .

Good idea on starting your own thread as this means that all found within pertains to your system and your particular system only.

I am unfamiliar with the "Netscape connect (Old Walmart Connect).

Please elaborate in as much detail as possible and I will gladly look into it.

I can tell you that Netscape is now a subsidiary of AOL and that all support for the Netscape browser ceased on March 1, 2008.

Is this a dial-up connection? The CD you mention - what year is it from and have you found any Internet links to it that would provide me with a copy of it so that I may test it to ascertain the problems you are having?

What is it that this software does for you that connecting via wireless to the Internet does not? I ask as a distant family member recently asked me for help w/AOL dial-up as they were under the impression that it was needed to access their AOL which is not true at all. I showed them that they simply had to enter AOL.com under IE7 or Firefox (while connected to the Internet - via wifi or Ethernet) and then were able to access their AOL email account.

My Dell inspiron 3542 laptop speakers are not working, but 3.5 mm jack is working fine.
Please help me out.

Answer:My Dell inspiron 3542 laptop speakers are not working, but 3.5 mm jack is working fine.

Hello. The problem could be either in the hardware or the software, so you need to test each. Perform the tests below -- it doesn't matter which one you do first.

To test the speakers, perform the Quick Audio Check in the ePSA test. If the speakers fail the test then they have failed or become disconnected. (Click the link for instructions on how to run the test.)

To test the software, switch between the Realtek audio driver and the Windows native driver. [This test assumes that your laptop has the Realtek audio driver. If you get to step 2 and do not see "Realtek High Definition Audio" then go to the Dell support page for your model and download the Realtek driver that Dell provides for the version of Windows that the laptop is running.]
1. Open the Device Manager (find it in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc into the search box).2. Expand the "Sound, video & game controllers" and right click on "Realtek High Definition Audio".3. Select to "Update Driver Software".4. Click on "Browse my computer for driver software".5. Click "Let me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".6. Put a check in the box "Show compatible hardware" if not already checked.7. In the list of devices, click "High Definition Audio" (the native driver).8. Click "Next".9. On the Update Driver Warning box, click "Yes" (install the driver). 10. Restart the laptop if prompted. If not prompted,... Read more

I am not sure exactly at what point it happened but I recently found that the touch screen on my Elite X2 1011 was not working. The pen still functions normally. When checking the pen and touch settings I can only configure the pen settings and only "Pen support" is listed in view pen and touch settings. The touch screen used to work in both the original Windows 8.1 and then also after upgrading to Windows 10. There have been no error messages and the event logs do not seem to indicate any problems; it is as though the machine has just forgotten it is a touch screen. I have tried reinstalling drivers, reinstalling both Windows 10, and going back to Windows 8.1 to no avail. I really loved this little device but ease of use is cut rather drastically without the touch functionality. Has anyone else had a problem like this and have a solution? Any help at all is greatly appreciated.

I restored my computer back to factory settings the other day, everything went well and afterwards I could get online no probs, (we have a wireless connection}
Yesterday I tried to connect and nothing will let me go online the wifi seems fine and this computer is working online, but MY laptop just refuses to go online, it's a windows vista home premium op system and is Median computer.
O2 have tested the line but still nothing will connect me to the internet, they say if only my computer will not connect there is nothing they can do because all the other comps in the house are not having a problem ? I tried to system restore it but that came back and said something was preventing it doing a previous restore point, it does this for any restore point ? can anyone offer help with this ?
many thanks to all that have any idea what could be going on,

Answer:cannot connect to anywhere ? all other comps are fine ?

Assuming the wireless is turned ON? (sounds daft, but wouldn't be the first time!), I'd go into device manager, network adaptors and uninstall the wireless adaptor. Reboot windows and let it reinstall the driver.

Hey everyone. I have a friend who cannot connect to the internet, but however can connect to and use Bearshare (gasp!). It is probably something simple but I am not sure what it is. All of the connections are hooked up right and there are two laptops currently connected to the router, which works just fine, using the internet on my laptop for this now. It is the desktop that is connected that is giving the problem.

I am guessing that it has something to do with Port 80. It is not blocked by the firewall and is enabled in the router. Not sure what to do.

Answer:Cannot connect to net, P2P networks fine.

what have you tried to connect to such that you cannot connect to the "internet"? if you are connecting to a p2p network, you are connecting to the internet just fine.

Answer:Connection is fine... but nothing will connect

Hello, it looks as if your IP is static; that is, your computer is not getting the IP address automatically assigned. There is no Default Gateway listed after you ran the ipconfig command, so the computer cannot get out to the Internet. I would recommend going to the Start menu -> Settings -> Network connections and right-clicking on the Wireless Network Connection and selecting Properties. Double-click the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) selection and ensure both "Obtain an IP address automatically" and "Obtain DNS server address automatically" are both checked. Once you click OK, your computer should try to obtain an IP address on its own and be successful.

Alternatively, if you previously were using a static IP address, the Default Gateway was somehow removed and would need to be set again.

Hope that helps a bit.

I have a Toshiba satellite L40, this will not connect to our sky broadband for some reason?? It worked perfectly before, yet when we changed ISP, it stopped working, I saved the wep key etc.. but no matter what It will not work, the laptop is in working order after being checked out, I was told that Sky routers, will not run efficiently with vista basic?? im lost please HELP??? ty.

Answer:Toshiba L40. will not connect to new ISP (Sky) was fine with old ISP??

Hi -

If connecting via wifi, try Ethernet.

Did the new ISP offer or install any security packages? In US many offer McAfee, Norton, etc.. one of the Internet Security packages. If so, it should go.

Operating system not found was original statement
turned off for a few min...then on.....
the error was ctrl alt delete....did that and now in F2
under main.....it says bios revision was 10/14...which is when i suspect it went goofy. someone was trying to use it ...didn't know how and was pressing lots of keys....then black.
can you walk me thru this to see if i can restore

Answer:hp pavilion 1503 stopped working...and was working fine

Its either failed to find your hard drive or failed to find the boot files on the drive.
Asuume this is a laptop?
What operating system are you using XP Vista or W7?
While in the BIOS (setup) has the machine found and recognised the hard drive?
Is the boot order set as CD rom first and HDD second?
Can you remove and refit the drive to remake the connections as that may well solve a missing drive problem?

I have sort of an odd problem. I have a desktop computer that is connect to the internet wirelessly. Everything works fine there. I also have an xbox360 connected to the desktop via an Ethernet cable. I use this connection primarily to stream movies from my computer to the xbox. Today in the middle of a movie the movie stopped playing and gave me an error saying xbox isn't connected to the computer any more.
I checked the physical connection and everything was fine. I looked at my desktop (running windows xp) and noticed my LAN connection wasn't properly running. It said I have limited or no connectivity. So I tried repairing it, renewing it, disabling and re-enabling it. Nothing worked. In fact I get this error: "An error occurred while renewing interface Local Area Connection : unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out."

I also noticed I have a 169.254.xxx.xxx IP address, if that helps at all:
EDIT: Forgot to mention I also reinstalled the driver for the LAN card.

ASUS Notebook G60Vx Series

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit

Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN
A few days ago my internet suddenly stopped working. I plugged in the ethernet cord and everything worked fine. Checking the properties in the device manager showed the device was working properly, I also tried resetting it to make sure it was enabled but it did not work.

Upon troubleshooting, the "Windows Network Diagnostic" said the problems was that the Wireless adapter was not turned on. Using the switch on the front of the laptop as well as the function keys does nothing. Usually a graphic pops up showing if the WiFi is on or off, changinging transparent to show the WiFi is disabled. Now when I turn the switch on it always appears transparent, effectively going from off to off

So I know the computer reads both the function keys and the switch on the front but both methods never actually turns the adapter on. I just finished a system restore and nothing has changed

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Answer:Wifi not working on ASUS laptop, LAN working fine

Maybe the switch or adapter is defective. Some other ideas ...

Do you have an ASUS utility to also turn the wireless on/off? (I have an HP utility on one of my laptops that will individually control the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth if the physical switch is on.)

In Device Manager right click on the adapter - Properties - Advanced tab. Sometimes there is a Property in there that allows turning the adapter on/off.

If the card is easily accessible through a cover on the laptop's bottom remove and carefully and firmly replace the card several times to fix any potential looseness or corrosion problems.

Check the installed extensions in Chrome's settings and remove any you find.  If you still cannot go online, check the firewall.

I have an annoying issue with my internet connection. From time to time i can't connect to Steam, Battle.net or download from torrents (I'm mentioning torrents becuase there might be a connection). I share the internet with 10 other people all of them connected mostly via wi-fi. Is is possible that the connection is too low to connect to the already mentioned above servers? There is nothing wrong with my pc or internet settings because it works fine for a week and then all of a sudden not. Once we tried to hard reset the main router and after that it worked just fine.
Realy don't know what might be the reason and I would love to finally find out what's causing it.
The router is http://www.planet.com.tw/en/product/...t.php?id=34631
The modem is provided by austrian telecom company and is this one Pirelli PRG AV4202N

Thank you all for any help.

Answer:Internet works fine still cannot connect

It is possible that it could be a network congestion. Does your computer wireless adapter display any diagnostic as to why the connection was lost?

This is a VERY unusual problem for me. I have Never run into this before. I know this is long but please bare with me while reading this.

Well I am typing to you all from my linux box. I have a desktop that runs Windows XP SP3 and have not been able to get it to connect for months now. I use an smc2862w-g USB card to connect from it ordinarily but like I said, it hasn't connected to my home network for months. It reads and connects to my neighbors networks just fine but for some reason it is isolated to my home network. My home router/modem is an Arris model.

Today while I was talking to some guys I know in IRC who work the IT field, I got it to work for all of about 10 minutes. The problem is, is that it was an intermittent sync. I noticed that when I were to change channels in my router it would follow to let's say channel 11 but the card would bounce back and forth between 11 and 10 causing intermittent sync. If I changed to channel 4 then it would bounce between that and 5. Channel 6, same thing and so on and so forth. I read somewhere that it could be a problem with conflicting chipsets between the router and card but that doesn't make much sense to me. I've been in the computer field for a few years now as a tech support agent so this does not add up.

This is the first time I've seen this happen.

Answer:NO PROGRAMS can connect to internet, WND says EVERYTHING is fine!!

I have not had much luck with the network diagnostics in Windows 7 myself, a few points for you, however: what do you have for a NIC driver in the Device Manager, Network Adapters? What does your connection status look like in Control Panel, Network and Sharing Center? Try to run "IPCONFIG /ALL from a command prompt, if you are getting a 169.254.x.x address (Automatic IP Addressing), then you will not connect. Suggest resetting TCP/IP from an elevated command prompt, since you cannot connect to the Internet, I have provided the process for you:

For Windows 7 and Windows Vista
To open a command prompt, click Start and then type cmd in the Search programs and files box.
Under Programs, right-click the CMD.exe icon, and then click Run as administrator.
When the User Account Control box appears, click Yes.
At the command prompt, enter the following command, and then press Enter:

netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt

Note If you don't want to specify a directory path for the log file, run the following command instead:

netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

Also, try turning off the Windows Firewall as a troubleshooting step. Hope this helps.

On my network all of our computers connect fine with Ethernet and wireless when applicable. However one of my roommates came back from a trip and now he cant connect to the network wirelessly.

I hooked it up with my Ethernet cable and he could get on but only then. I tried ipconfig/release/renew and it wouldn't give him a new address. I looked at the current address it gave him and it was one outside of the pool IE 192.168.28.xxx rather than 192.168.1.xxx. Right now it says it sees teh network but only locally. Any suggestions; he is using Vista for OS reference?

Ok, so this is my problem. I have 4 devices that can connect to the network. The Main PC is wire connected to the wireless router which is connected to my modem. I have a laptop, a PS3, and another PC that can all connect to the internet with no problems through the wireless connection. At any given time, there are a minimum of 2 devices connected to the network. I rarely connect my PS3 to the network, and have recently kept my main PC shut down. My laptop is connected for as long as I have it in use, and the other PC is rarely connected. So I don't think it's a case of the network being overused.

The problem is that my main PC can no longer connect to the Internet. Since I bought my laptop, I stopped using my main PC for Internet, so I have no idea when it first started, but I estimate it's been almost 2 months.

I noticed that the problem seems to be with the Sending/Receiving of Packets. It sends out plenty, but receives barely any at all.

My PC is a Pentium 4, 1.7Ghz, 512MB DDRAM running Windows XP SP2

I have a D-Link DI-713P router, and a cable broadband connection.

I have tried the standard Repairing the connection, to no avail.

I have tried unplugging both the modem and the router, reconnecting them, then rebooting the PC, also to no avail.

When I connect the PC directly to the modem, the Internet works perfectly, so it's definitely not a hardware problem. I had initially suspected it may be a network card problem.

I was going to try a System... Read more

Answer:Wireless Network fine, PC cannot connect...

The problem PC connects OK to the modem but not to the router? That implies a problem with the cable or the router's LAN port.

Or maybe with the router's ethernet switch--does anything connect successfully to the router by ethernet?

Hi

any help offered gratefully accepted!

I installed the latest version of Firefox the other night. The system wasn't rebooted at the time. SInce then I have not been able to use any browser despite uninstalling and reinstalling both Firefox and IE - I added Opera too and the result is the same
"the page cannot be displayed"

Both email (via OE) and ftp (via Terrapin FTP) work fine.

I have a hub/broadband connection with 3 other computers connected - all of those are working fine.

The problem PC is a clunky win98.

Internet connection is set to "LAN" with "automatically detect settings" ticked.

Can anyone shed any light as to where I might even begin to look and see where the problem might lie? There don't seem to be any useful logs of activity anywhere.

Hijackthis and Adaware returned nothing out of the ordinary.
Thanks in advance for any help

Hello.
My own laptop died recently and a friend was good enough to send me an 'eee pc 1101ha' notebook style laptop that she no longer uses.
When it first arrived, I went to set up the internet connection. It worked - for about 20 minutes, then my connection to the internet dropped out.
There is nothing wrong with the signal from the router - I can get online using same router on my phone and the borrowed laptop I am working from now.
The eee pc shows it has a strong signal. I've also attached it to the router using the cable, but it makes no difference.
I've tried 'repairing' the Atheros wireless network adaptor but get the message it is working fine. I've uninstalled it and reinstalled it. I've reset the PC using system restore. I've pinged, I've renewed my IP address. But nothing. I'm told I have a connection, everything is working fine but when I try to go online I get the 'can't establish a connection to the server at google.co.uk' message.
The icon on the tool bar showing internet connectivity is a PC monitor, with 'waves' coming off it. If I am connected properly, the monitor is white. It always flickers white when I boot up, or after I have made any changes or tried something new, but it turns black within seconds and stays black.
The PC is running on Windows XP.
Any assistance would be very much appreciated :)
Many thanks, Jen

Answer:I can't connect although networks show fine :(

The fact that you get a good wireless signal indicator, and that the connection worked for a while when you first used the Netbook, allied to the fact that you experience the same difficulty when you connect the machine to the router by cable gives a clue - the problem possibly lies with the router.
If you feel comfortable looking at the router settings (which you do by typing an IP address into your browser) you might try deleting all other machines from the address table, then delete the Netbook. Restart the router and the Netbook, and let the router assign a new IP address. See if that makes a difference. If it does, you can add back your phone and any other machines one by one.
If you're not sure how to handle the router settings, post back here with the name and model, and one of us will step you through the process.

pretty stumped with this. All seemed to be fine until I accepted to try some AVG anti-virus thing for free yesterday morning..I have AVG on my PC and the invitation seemed to be coming FROM the program, now I suspect not.

- Can't connect to the Internet.
- I can connect to my wifi network AND to the internet from my phone, laptop, PS3 and PS4.

This is what I've tried and what I have done that I think may have made the problem worse. Ugh.

- I tried uninstalled AVG, when I couldn't uninstall one of the programs titled "avg protection" (there were 2 and one uninstalled fine), I deleted the file folder alltogether. Still didn't fix it and it seems like part of the program froze upon installation which prohibited me from uninstalling AVG properly. I kept getting a message saying "you can't uninstall this program without uninstalling programs associated with it first..." or something to that nature. I tried to uninstall "avg protection" but it kept restarting the installation from the beginning but couldn't do anything because it needed an internet connection. Ugh. I feel that deleting the AVG program from my PC may have been a bad move after doing some reading.

- I tried system restore to a few different points. NOPE. Tried it through safe mode..NOPE.

- I run the network diagnostics tool. It tells me to unplug my router/modem...wait three minutes, blah, blah...when I click continue I get "runtime error prog... Read more

My other computer that doesn't do much has LogMeIn installed but displays "enabled but offline". There's lots of people with this problem, but it seems a common fix is to ensure the date and time are right. My time has always been synced automatically, so this got ruled out - it's definitely correct. However, when I installed Chrome last night and synced my profile from my other computers, forecastfox extension got installed and that won't search for my location when I enter it in the box...

One of the LMI suggestions to fix was to check about network activity and about which network adapter it's using. Which caused me to think of a problem I had with the computer a while ago - causing me to uninstall and reinstall the connection - as a result it got called "Local Area Connection #2". I renamed it but have just noticed it's down in the summary panel as using "NVIDIA nForce 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet #2".

Everything else seems to work fine, no Windows firewall turned on. I got sent to Advanced > Advanced Settings in Network Connections, but it seems to be the only one there, so no confusion as to paths. When I do a tracert to anywhere, the next hop is my router followed by my ISP. Just installed the forecastfox extension on two other machines which connect fine behind the same router.

I'm getting stuck - any ideas?

Hi,
I seem to have a strange problem.
See, recently Internet Explorer has stopped working on my Vaio. After that Opera (the one I use the most) stopped as wel, saying that it can't connect to the server. And 2 day's ago Firefox started doing the same thing. But my internet connection is perfect! MSN messenger works fine and the browser in LimeWire works as well. But I don't want to stay stuck with that so I used System Restore. I restored my computer to a point ten day's ago. In the beginning IE worked again, Opera and Firefox didn't. But I was happy enough with that. So I shut my computer down yesterday evening. But now, when I started my computer up again, IE doesn't work anymore either!
I'm now using the browser in Windows Media Player.
I have no idea what could have caused this. I only know that Opera stopped working after I had installed a new version of it (9.60).

If anyone has any insperation as to what the cause is or where the problem might be...
Thanks.

I posted this thread on Club Vaio Forum and they seem to think it's some kind of malware. I've seen another thread on this site about someone with a simmilar problem but there wasn't any solution given.
If anyone could help me out?

here's my problem - I can't connect via wifi to my router, but can connect to the internet with an ethernet cable.

However, my other computer connects via wifi without problems. I've gone through my troubleshooting and the wifi light is on, so that's not the issue. I also updated my driver (says it's working fine) and even tried to uninstall and reinstall it. I am not sure what else to do.

If I try to connect via wifi though, the computer recognizes all the available networks, including my own, but just won't connect. It says a cable is unplugged (which at that time it is, because it's supposed to connect wirelessly).

I have a HP Pavilion dv6-3147sb Entertainment notebook, and it uses Windows 7

My internet is fine, I can browse the web, watch videos, and connect to Steam.

The issue arises when I try to connect to a game of League of Legends, connect to a CSGO server, or take screenshots with Gyazo or Puush.

When taking a screenshot with Gyazo I get the error "The application cannot connect to the internet. Please confirm the setting for your third party security software, internet proxy, or firewall. Error 12029: A connection with the server could not be establish."

When taking a screenshot with Puush "Connection with the server went wrong"

When trying to get into a game of CS:GO it just tells me to raise my max ping settings.

League will go through champion select but gives me a connection error when loading into the game.

We have a main office and a branch office that are connected with a dedicated T1 line. The branch office is a child domain to the main office:

oci.local and fm.oci.local with ip ranges 192.168.0.X and 192.168.1.X respectively.

A handful of computers in the oci.local domain can not communicate across the dedicated line. No ping or connections. About 30 computers there and only a handful can not connect.

Each office has a Patton 2603 gateway that connects the dedicated line. A tracert shows the attempt dieing at that device. Not sure if there could be something in the gateway blocking it. I can not access the device because our previous IT staff changed the user and pass .

Any utilities out there or ideas of how I can troubleshoot to narrow down the culprit? I am not an expert so any help is appreciated.

Hi All and Merry Christmas!

I've been all over the help boards and MS troubleshooting, but I haven't found anything that addresses this particular issue.

I can connect to the internet fine via Firefox, but when I try via IE7 I get:
"Failed to connect to web-server/proxy-server for bypass transaction (Error 504)". (Sometimes I get a more friendly error page, but of no more help than this.)

I'm on a Dell desktop running Windows XP SP3 and connect via HughesNet satellite. I believe the problem started after my helpdesk at work talked me through setting up VPN connection. VPN worked fine however, which makes this problem odder because work doesn't support Firefox. In any case, I uninstalled VPN. I've also tried connecting in SafeMode - no dice. None of the other suggestions I've seen online have helped either - but I think all of them assume you can't connect to the internet at all.

One thing I've noticed - when I look at my Network Connection settings there are two of them: Local Area Connection and Local Area Connection 2. The first one says "Network cable unplugged" (which of course it isn't or I wouldn't be typing here now), and the other says "Connected." They have different device names as well, the first Intel (R) Pro 1000... and the second one (that works) 3Com EtherLink XL...

Maybe Firefox is using the second one, and IE is trying to use the first one, but I don't... Read more

Answer:Can't connect via IE7, but Firefox works fine

Might be Conficker Worm Virus

Have you checked for the Conficker work virus? I had a customer recently had this problem. IE didn't work but FF did and there were some other issues. The ISP had contacted the customer to say they believed his home network was infected with Conficker and needed to be removed or they were doing to cut him off. So he called me, I checked and yes, it was Conficker.

Here is the link for the company that makes a removal tool for Conficker:

Hi everyone. I hope I am posting this in the right spot.
One day my internet is working, the next day its not.

My computer shows an error that says, "the realtek pcie fe family controller adapter is experiencing driver or hardware problems."

I have an hp desktop model #p6533w.

I am not that computer savvy so please let me know of any additional info you need to make a better analysis.

Things I have tried:
> restoring my computer to an earlier time
> restoring my computer to factory settings
> resetting my modem.

Answer:I cannot get my internet to connect... worked fine before.

Try updating the driver in device manager...

One computer on my LAN will not connect to the internet but AIM and Limewire work fine on it. My main computer works fine. The computer in my daughters room just will not connect. She can use AIM and Limewire but IE and Firefox both are unable to connect. All computers worked fine before but I just moved and set up the network in the new house. Before I setup the router her computer could connect straight from the modem. I have power cycled all links in the chain and removed the modem battery to do so but no joy. Any thoughts?

Answer:Can't connect to WWW but AIM and Limewire work fine, Help?

My friend has same problem. Cannot get online but can instant message. She did some updates and was having those problems afterward. I recomended a system restore to earlier point but that did not work. She lives in another state so I cannot physically be there to correct her problem and she doesn't understand what I'm telling her to check. Does anyone know what the problem may be? Thanks.

Answer:Cannot connect to any websites MSN/IRC work fine HJT log inside

Hello rhrobert and welcome to TSF,

We prefer a more comprehensive set of logs to assist in detecting any malware that may be present. As noted in our sticky topic (Updated!) IMPORTANT - Read This Before Posting A Log, download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) to your Desktop.

What DSS will do:create a new System Restore point in Windows XP and Vista.
clean your Temporary Files, Downloaded Program Files, and Internet Cache Files, and also empty the Recycle Bin on all drives.
check some important areas of your system and produce a report for your analyst to review.
DSS automatically runs HijackThis for you, but it will also install and place a shortcut to HijackThis on your desktop if you do not already have HijackThis installed.

Note: You must be logged onto an account with administrator privileges.Close all applications and windows.
Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt <-this one will be minimized
Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt in your next reply.
Please attach extra.txt to your post.
To attach a file to a new post, simplyClick the[Manage Attachments] button under Additional Options > Attach Files on the post composition page, and
copy and paste the following into the "Upload File from your Computer" box:C:\Deckard\System Scanner\extra.txt

A few days ago a big storm came through my area.

The next morning my internet was down. I bypassed my router and plugged my PC directly to the modem, that didn't work either. I spoke with Charter, they did something on their end (I restarted the modem & my PC) and that got my PC back online but when I went through my router my home network functioned but I could not get online through either plugged in or wifi computers.

I figured the storm fried my router, so I bought a new one, and I'm having the same problem.

When I connect my PC to the modem I'm online. When I plug the modem to the new router my wired connections are only online for a few minutes and wifi connections are limited at first, then there is no internet connectivity for anything. My home network still works though. I have 2 PC's wired to the router, at one time I saw an IP conflict error, but didn't show up after restarting the router & PC.

I've reset my modem, router and computers several times. I've tried using different cables, but that doesn't seem to change anything.

On the modem there are five lights: Power, DS, US, Online & Link.
The 4 lights for Power, DS, US & Online are always green.
When I plug my PC directly into the modem the Link light blinks green (online), but when I plug the modem into the router the Link light blinks amber (offline).

Details-
ISP: Charter
modem (provided by Charter): Cisco DPC3010 (installed about 2 years ago)

Answer:limited connect through router, fine through modem

Are they tracking the MAC Address of the device connected to the modem? In case they are, clone to the router's WAN the MAC address of the ethernet adapter of the computer that can connect through the modem. Remember to power cycle the modem when switching the device connected to it.

My computer will not connect to my router, unless I disable my firewall. I am using Panda Platinum Internet Security. I can connect to someone elses wireless router with the firewall enabled. I have tried to create exceptions within the software to let me connect, but it doesn't work. I keep the network card disabled when I am using the wireless. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software with the card enabled and the wireless card disabled, but it still wouldn't connect to the router without the firewall diasbled. I can connect wirelessly even though the card was disabled when I installed the software. I also tried Zone Alarm and that wouldn't let me connect either. I am running Windows XP Pro SP2. The network card is a Broadcom NetXtreme Gigabit Ethernet card. If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Can't connect to wired router, but wireless is fine.

Paragraphs
ARE
nice...

so I assume then that you are trying to connect via a wired link?
if so, then perhaps you could edit your post to help explain what the problem is?

You are having problems with your wired connection on a 1)laptop 2)desktop
You have ICF 1)enabled 2) disabled
You have tried uninstalling panda firewall shit and connecting 1)yes 2)no
When panda is installed, does your lan connection a) show up as connected but no traffic goes through or b) lan connection says 'no connection
What method are you using for ip addressing 1)DHCP 2)static
if answer to above was 2, then
Are your ip settings correct 1)yes 2)no

or i just totally misinterpreted your problem, in which case, i'm sorry

Firefox and IE won't connect to the internet or load any of the pages. The internet connection is fine. I thought it was the router/wireless at home...I took it to work and it connected to the wireless here. It was fine...I just can't get my browsers to load. I have vista and the latest version of firefox and IE

I've checked:
1.)Anti-Virus/Malware software - Scanned, and disabled temporarily to see if this was the cause: It was not.
2.) Router/Wireless - Says connected. I've pinged a few addresses and they're all responding
3.) Firefox Setting: It's directly connected to the internet; no manual proxy setting or anything
4.) IE Setting: Ditto
5.) An IPConfig run shows that things are working fine, connection wise...I wonder if I missed something or screwed up the settings somewhere.
6.) Re-installed Firefox and IE: Nothing changed

Answer:my computer wont connect but others in the house do just fine

The problem is the same for both ethernet and Wi-Fi connections?

What firewall or security suite is, or ever was, on the system?

Please attach a screen shot of the Networks page (don't collapse the Radar, Connection or Signal History) of the Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector. If you need help with that see TSG Posting a Screenshot. FWIW to take screen shots with Windows 8 or 7 or Vista I prefer to use the built-in Snipping Tool.

Also show ...

Open a (black) Command Prompt window:
Hold the Windows logo key and press r; in the Run box type cmd and click on OK.

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

I have three desktop computers here (two with XP, one with 2000) One of the XP machines had a whack of spyware and viruses (which I'm currenty trying to deal with in another thread). It hasn't been able to connect to the network for a couple days. This morning, my main PC was fine. As of now, none of the windows machines will connect to the internet, yet my little Mac here is working perfectly. Can I assume I have a network virus?

This is the other thread that has my hijack this logs and some more explanation of what I've done already, in case it's helpful at all.

Thanks!!

Answer:Home network - pcs cannot connect, Mac works fine

Macs don't tend to be bothered by most viruses, as they are mostly written to mess with Windows machines. Sounds like whatever got your first machine got the other windows machine also.

Hello,

So my internet has been a bit slow lately, and I've noticed when I load certain pages I get redirected, especially on my phone, but also on my laptops. I suspect there is something wrong in my router itself, but I'm unable to access it. When I use the gateway mask to access it, I just get "Connection timed out." I'm using the right IP, and I double checked it with ipconfig, but I can't access it. I've tried on my phone and laptop, I've tried over the wireless and wired connections, but I can't get in.

I'm trying to avoid having to factory reboot the router, which is why I'm hoping people here might have an idea.

I find it really odd, and troubling, that I can't even access my router.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Cannot connect to router, internet is fine, but redirecting

Hi Mydako, and welcome to TSG.

Mydako said:

Say what? I have heard of "Subnet Mask" and "Default Gateway". They are both part of the results of an IPCONFIG /ALL command. What is a Gateway Mask?

What IP address are you using to access the router?
Have you confirmed that the router has a web browser based interface?
What is the Brand, Model Number, and any hardware and/or firmware version of your router?

Both Google Chrome, and FireFox connect fine, but nearly everything won't connect.

Skype can't connect.
Steam can't connect.
League of Legends can't connect.
Join.Me can't connect.
Etc...

But my browser works fine? (Just noticed, apparently my VPN can connect.)

My immediate reaction was to scan for viruses, scan'd with TDSSKiller- Nothing.

So I ran MSCONFIG, and disabled all start up programs, and restarted. Still won't connect.

Then I noticed their was a update on my windows update (which still connects to the internet), and there was a new service pack available, so hoping that would fix it, I installed it, restarted my computer, etc.., and still won't connect.

MalwareBytes didn't find anything serious.

Firewalls are disabled.

Never had this problem before today.

Btw, I don't have System Restore enabled.

I am on Windows 7.

Answer:Browser Works Fine, Other Programs Can't Connect

Hi, you say "Firewalls are disabled" do you mean you have more then one?
