How do I extend my laptop's wifi Internet to my iPhone?

Question: How do I extend my laptop's wifi Internet to my iPhone?

So I'm having trouble getting on my home wireless internet using my iPhone.

My router is in the basement, and whenever I'm on the third floor, my laptop gets around 2 bars, but my iPhone can't pick up the signal.

So is there any way that I can use my laptop as a second router to extend my wifi to my iPhone? I've tried third party programs like Virtual Router Manager, Connectify, Maryfi, but my iPhone (4S model) picks up the signal for like 20 seconds, and then the wifi just drops for 10 minutes, then picks it up again for like 20 seconds, then drops for like 10 minutes again, and on...)

Is there any way that windows 7 can do it natively? or are there any other solutions out there? thanks!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello,

Wireless Repeaters/Extenders would help.

If the Router has external Antenna, you may replace them with High Gain Antenna and they are quite reasonable. The higher the dBI's the better signal you'll get. I use them at my home and it works great.

Up until yesterday, I could connect my iPhone to the internet via my Win 7 laptop using an ad-hoc network and internet connection sharing. Now I can connect the two with the wifi ad-hoc network, and my internet connection is shared, but the iPhone just can't see the internet connection. I know it's a Win 7 problem because the iphone connects to the net fine using an ad-hoc network and connection sharing when I boot my laptop (MacBook) into OSX (snow leopard).

Both networks (3G internet and wifi ad-hoc) are classed as 'work' networks in Win 7. Can you help ? it's a real pain having to switch to OSX to update my iPhone.....

Things I changed recently - installed Boot Camp 3.1 64bit (am running Win 7 Ultimate 64bit).

Hello, I have a Twist and works fine, although I have recently moved to an iphone 6.  The phone and laptop combination has problem tethering over wifi, with tethering enabled on the phone, the laptop does not find the wifi signal.  Asking a colleague to see if my phone is broadcasting an SSID, which it was.  The laptop just doesn't want to find my iphone wifi signal.  However, finding any wifi broadcast from a router, it finds it first time! Since it was a new phone, I have been speaking with apple a lot and have even replaced the iphone, although problems still persist. I am starting to think it is the lenovo twist laptop.  I have checked the drivers and I have the latest ones which are on the lenovo website because the program used to update the software doesn't ask me to install a new driver, but looking at the wifi driver within the device manager it is dated: 13/08/2012. with driver version #: 6.20.55.55. I have the 2x2 11a/b/g/n Wireless LAN PCI Express Half Mini Card Adapter and is based on the Broadcom chipset.Do any of you have this problem?  Also, where can I obtain the very latest driver for this as I would suspect it is likely to be a driver issue or I would like to rule this out first. Many thanks.

So I have no idea where to start but this is really bugging me. Pretty much what the title says. Three different devices, when I try to search, I get either an error message, or nothing at all, sometimes google or something posing as google will ask me for un and pw. It only happens on wifi. (Which my laptop is always on) but never once on cellular data. Any ideas on where to start

I have a Netgear N300 wireless router. My laptop is Sonay Viao, running Windows 7.
This morning my internet was unreliable, and dropping every minute or so. Trying to trouble shoot, I switched the router off then on again.
Now I have no wireless signal between my laptop and router. The router doesn't seem to be recognising the security password. I have not changed the password - this is still the original password for the router.
Other devices are still talking wirelessly to the router.
Any suggestions? Help much appreciated.
Kind regards,
Anthony White

I have an IPhone - (just got and am still teaching myself) and am going to move into an apartment w/out cable, sattelite or WiFi, but have access through my IPhone to the internet. Is there any way to set my laptop up through my IPhone to get a connection? For the gurus, I'm certain this is a stupid Q, but in my "world", I'm trying to track down more economical ways to spend my money and time! Thanks so much in advance; this is my 1st post - hopefully it's clear and concise. Kim

Hi everyone. Earlier today, my internet stopped working all of a sudden. I could not, and still cannot, load any web page (using Chrome). However, I am able to connect just fine on my iPhone using the same network. My roommate had been unable to connect via his laptop as well.

My network tooltip shows 5 bars as well as internet access, but I can't load any pages. I get a "DNS lookup failed" or "interrupted" errors every time.

I've tried restarting my computer, turning off and on my wifi, restoring, and windows troubleshooting. I also tried connecting to other networks around me , but still can't load anything. I've also tried running in Safe Mode but no luck. Because I don't have internet, I can't update any drivers or check for updates. I live in an apartment and share one network with those on my floor, so checking the modem/router will be difficult.

I'm using an HP dv6t Quad running W7 Ultimate 64 bit. My wifi adapter is the Realtek RTL8188CE 802.11b/g/n Wifi Adapter.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks

My internet currently cable internet is very very slow. I use it to check sites and play online poker. However internet has all these issues. I used my iphone to play by activating a hotspot for my laptop. The issue with this is im using at least 35mb/hour. I was told it shouldn't be using this much. I dont stream video or check much sites at all. Is there reason why its using up so much data? I have skype turned off as well. But i do have lot of processes turned on but those processes im sure are necessary in order for computer to work. I do have networx in my laptop that shows how much data i use.

Can someone tell me what i can do to make sure all my things are turned off so im just using data for online poker? Also data here is very expensive which is why i ask this and obviously i dont like playing online poker with my data plan as you use it up really easily.

I have used Qwest previously with a modem and Linksys router to desktop, laptop and Iphone with very few connectivity problems. The switch to CenturyLink and their recommended modem/router, Actiontec PK5000 has given me fits. The desktop is connected via ethernet cable and maintains connectivity. The laptop and Iphone will not connect. CenturyLink's answer is for me to unplug and reboot the actiontec device. The routine has to be done several times a day, and that does not always work. There has to be a better solution. My back is killing me from bending over to unplug and unplug the modem's power cord....

Thanks,

Okay, so my desktop is connected to the network by wifi to the wireless N (plus B and G) router. It connects to the internet fine and dandy. My iPhone can connect to the router, but drops the wifi signal most of the time. It doesn't seem to want to hold the connection because of either distance or interference from the wall or whatever.

What I want is to connect the iPhone's wifi to the computer for a stronger connection. But I don't want to move the router because it's centrally located and my office is kinda further away from it.

Equipment:
1 computer
1 802.11n wireless USB adapter connected to computer
1 802.11g wireless PCI adapter connected to computer
1 802.11n router connected to internet
1 iPhone with 802.11b/g connectivity
Is it possible to do this? I know what people have done it with one wired connection and a wireless connection from the computer. But can it be done with TWO wireless adapters connected to the computer?

Thanks in advance for any replies....

PS...I know it'd be easier to just use the computer to browse the internet since I'd be in the office anyway...but I work as a 3D modeler and alot of times I'm testing renders for scenes and such and can't stop the render without losing the progress. If I browse while it's rendering, it's possible I can crash the computer because of the heavy resources the 3D engine is already using.

Answer:Possible to connect iPhone's wifi to computer that is connected by wifi to the net?

Doesn't hurt (except maybe your time) to try. Get an ad-hoc wireless network working between computer and iPhone (using dynamic addressing). Then in Network Connections bridge the two wireless connections.

If it doesn't work, show the following for the computer before you bridge and when you have the bridge.

Start, Run, CMD, OK to open a command prompt:
(For Vista type CMD in the Search box after Start)

Type the following command:

IPCONFIG /ALL

[Note that there is no space between the slash and ALL.]

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter.
Paste the results in a message here.

If necessary use a text file and removable media to copy the results to a computer with internet access.

Although I am connected to our wireless network on the Folio 13, there is no internet connection. I can, however, connect to the internet via Wifi on two other household laptops, both of them HP, so I believe the problem is with the Folio itself. I can also connect to other computers on the network on the Folio, but something is preventing it from getting on the internet. I can only get the internet via hardwired ethernet connection on the Folio. I have tried the following fixes, multiple times, without success: -Run the Windows troubleshooter for Internet/Network. It says the connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the internet is broken. (But not on other wifi computers here--works fine.)-Reboot/Reset the modem.-Disable/Renable the wifi adapter (Intel Centrino Wireless N 1030)-Update wifi adapter driver (it says driver is up to date)-Uninstall/reinstall wifi adapter-Remove Wifi Network from list of available networks; reboot, add this network back in-Roll back all Windows updates from the past month-Searched self-help forums for a possible solution And yes, the wifi keyboard light is blue, not orange. Can someone help please?

HiI have a Netgear DG834G router through which a desktop Mac, a Dell desktop a couple of laptops and an X box at various times connect. The house is fairly large and I have the router connected to the phone line downstairs. The Mac is the furthest away and the signal is pretty varied. I have wondered about the best way to deal with this problem. I considered these ideas 1. Powerline ethernet through the electric cables, but am not sure this is compatible with the mac and also whether it would be reliable or not. I am also worried about power surges damaging my computer.2. Adding some sort of device to sit somewhere in the house to boost the signal. I don't know much about this option3. Upgrading my router to a more powerful one. I have heard this might give me little additional coverage.Any advice is gratefully receivedThanksWillie

My modem/wifi/mta is in one box from the local cable company. On the extreme edges of the house, the wifi signal is weak. How best to extend this range, another AP, a repeater? Can you connect another router to the main router with Ethernet cable and relocate it in the weak area. Having two different SIDs/channels a problem? Most devices will auto change to strongest signal? Or other suggestions.

Answer:How best to extend my wifi range

1) Can you relocate the original router? You can join two LAN cables via a female-to-female adapter and maybe put the original router in a better spot.

2) Some people have had luck changing the antenna on their original router.
D-Link - ANT24-0700 - 7dBi Omni-Directional Indoor Antenna at TigerDirect.com
The link above is just an example, I'm not suggesting that you use that particular model or retailer.

3) I'll let others comment on their luck with range extenders. I've used them in some settings, but the throughput suffers.

4) I'll let others comment on their luck with other options :-)

I would like to have wifi in my shed/workshop, which is all steel construction. Even standing outside the door, I'm at the limit of our household wifi, so I'm wondering what options I have? An ethernet cable would be one I'm sure, but a little difficult to run. I've seen reference to networking via the electric power supply cables, but don't understand it. Would I still need a router in the shed? I'd really like some kind of hot spot, because I mostly use my tablet which doesn't have broadband, or an ethernet port.

Main router: Asus RT-N16 running dd-wrt build 18024 mega.
Extension: Edimax BR-6228Ns http://www.edimax.us/html/english/products/BR-6228nS.htm

Goal: Extend wifi coverage. Would like to have same SSID, transparent to clients, etc.

Problems so far:

(1) I tried setting up the edimax first as just a repeater but it didn't seem to do anything at all. Signal strength (measured with WiEye https://market.android.com/details?id=edu.smu.wispy&hl=en off android device) was identical before/after.

(2) Connecting the two units via wire has led to the whole network becoming unusable, IPs not gettings assigned, conflict errors, even though DHCP is turned off on the edimax and turned on on the asus (I initially assumed that was why).

I'm not sure where I'm going wrong and I'm sure there are some problems with how I have configured them.

Help please. I can give more info if needed. Wasn't sure what else to include.

Answer:Trying to extend wifi. Failing.

Did you change the LAN IP on the second unit? If they are both set as 192.168.0.1 it will cause problems......

Also if you want to use the second unit as an AP, make sure you plug the cable in to a switch port and not the WAN port. Looks like you already disabled DHCP on the second unit.

Hi all!

I have owned my home for 5 years and I've never been able to have wireless signal in any of the bedrooms. I've bought a few new routers that claim to have good range (Belkin F5D8235-4 v2 and an ASUS RT-N66U) but still no luck with either of them. The issue is that I have a cable modem in my office which is close to our main TV and PS4 but that side of the house is an addition and is separated from the rest of the house by a 70 year old block wall.

Running an ethernet cable from my office to the other side of the house would be a real pain and something that I would like to avoid at almost all cost.

I get great download speeds with the ASUS router and would like to continue using that as the main modem in my office, but I was thinking about trying one of the available power-line network adaptors (http://www.amazon.com/ZyXEL-Powerline-Ethernet-Adapter-PLA4101KIT/dp/B00D7GF4FU/ref=dp_ob_title_ce) and setting up a secondary wireless signal for the other side of the house with the Belkin router.

I'm afraid that I don't know much about setting this up, or if it would even work. I would primarily use this connection to use the iPad and stream Hulu Plus or Netflix to the bedrooms.

Can anyone give me some advice on using powerline adaptors for the application that I have in mind? Also, I'm looking for a tutorial on how to set up a second wireless signal using the two routers that I have..

Thanks in advanced for anyone with some helpful advic... Read more

Question: Extend WiFi Range

I am attempting to extend the range of a WIFI network to cover two buildings, about 300 ft apart. I have installed a D-link extreem -N router and 3 7dbi antennas, however I am still a bit short in range. ( each building has a firewall which seems to be limiting reception).

Another way to increase your signal strength is by the use of hi-gain antennas. You can choose from omni-directional or directional models, here are a some examples.

Hawking [HAI7SIP] Hi-Gain 7dBi Omni-Directional Antenna

Hawking [HAI15SC] Hi-Gain 15dBi Corner Antenna

[HAO14SD] Outdoor Hi-Gain 14dBi Directional Antenna Kit

For 802.11n applications, this ZyXEL ANT1106 6db omni-directional antenna can be used.

For really long range outdoor applications, this 24dB parabolic WiFi Antenna may be a good choice.

If you have a wireless adapter that doesn't have provisions for an external antenna, one adapter that I've had good luck with is a Rosewill RNX-G1 USB Wireless Adapter. It's feature is that is has a removable antenna and will accommodate replacement antennas.

This is just a sample of available products, many people have hi-gain antennas with similar specifications, but I haven't seen any other suppliers of signal boosters.

I have a home office in a barn about 100 meters from my home. The signal from my BThomehub obviously does not reach.
I am looking to get a range extender but have no idea which one would be best or if there is a better option.
I am looking to use it mainly for emails and interweb.
Any ideas welcome.

Answer:Need to extend the range of my wifi by 100 meters +

If the barn is on the same ring-main, homeplugs are probably the easiest option. Not actually available from this particular link, but you will see what is involved.

hi thereI have asked my neighbor if i could share her broadband wireless as i have a 5GB cap on mine and she agreed but the problem is that she lives across the street from me and my laptop sometimes cannot catch the wireless signals that are there.Sometimes it does goto her router (which she has disabled the security for ) and i can use the internet but i do have constant problem of internet going off.I have a router a BT voyager 2091 but i do not know how to make configure so that i can use it as a repeater which i have read in some forums makes the signal stronger.Originally a BT router but its giving me a problem and does not give a constant DSL signal so I'm thinking if i can use it as a repeater instead. Now is there any way i can boost up her wireless signal so i do not get disconnected from the net frequently? Many thanksBlanka

Answer:Best way to extend wifi coverage from Neighbor

If she has disabled encryption, please tell her that she is asking for problems. Why can she not simply give you the PSK?I doubt if anyone around here knows how to use a BT router as a repeater or whether it is possible. My educated guess is that it would not be possible. Go buy an AP or maybe move in next door!

Hello,

Just moved into a larger home. Having some trouble getting a good WIFI signal downstairs. It is pretty far away, and the streaming services are always buffering there or will start and stop. Need to get the tv on for kids.

Is it a good idea to get a wifi repeater? That seems to be a good and cheaper way than buying an expensive new modem to replace the one offered by Mediacom (they said it is the best one they have.

If no on the repeater, what is my best option?

Appreciate any help....Thanks!

Hey
I will try to make this short... I have a router with cabled computers plus WiFI set up in our office building. A cable runs from the router to the manager's house approximately 500 yards away. In that house only one computer is able to be used directly from where the cable comes into the house. I need to set up WiFi for my boss' wife who will shortly be recovering from an operation so needs WiFi in her bedroom.
I have no real clue how to do this... I just bought these: TP-LINK AV500 TL-WPA4220 300Mbps WiFi Powerline Extender Starter KIT (Twin Pack) but have no real clue how to set it all up? Any help (bearing in mind I'm a luddite) would be gratefully received!
Thanks
Debs

Answer:Need to extend WIFI off cabled connection

Powerline works by using the house electrical wiring system to provide wired network access throughout the premises.
Read the instructions provided in the box to ensure the units can talk to one another (pairing). Now connect one device to the cable coming into the house and plug this into a mains socket and switch on. Now connect one of the supplied cables to the other device and connect the other end to your boss's wife's PC then plug the device into the mains near the PC. On switching on the PC, up to 3 green lights should be illuminated on both devices and, after about 2 minutes, the PC should connect to the internet.
NB this is a wired connection - not a wireless connection

I currently use BT Homehub via ethernet to my PCs upstairs but I want to connect my smartphone downstairs to the internet via wifi. Unfortunately the walls are too thick for the signal to be received downstairs.
Can I use powerline via my house electricity circuit to solve the problem?
If so which ones and do I need new routers??

Using DD-WRT, I set up my Linksys WRT54G to work as a wireless repeater / "Repeater Bridge" of the Verizon MiFi 3G 2200 modem/router device in our house.

I still need a way to get internet access about 200 feet away from Linksys WRT54G Repeater Bridge, so I purchased a Hawking HWABN1 Access Point / Bridge and a Window Antenna to connect to the Hawking HWABN1.

Can the Hawking HWABN1 connect to the Linksys WRT54G Repeater Bridge so that I can get online by connecting to the Hawking HAWBN1? If yes, does the HWABN1 need to be setup as a Bridge or Access Point?

Did I buy the right equipment for this, or should I have purchased a Range Extender instead? What are my options for this scenario?

Thank you

However, it is located in the ground floor of my house. The top floor doesn't get coverage that is good enough.

How can I extend the range on the upper floor to get a full signal? I checked out some extenders, but they seem to be expensive.

Wouldn't it just be cheaper to buy another WNDR4300 and use that to extend the range from the first one? They're 60 bucks refurb...

I am just brainstorming to see if it is possible to use a PC connected via ethernet with an unconnected wifi adapter to extend or re-broadcast an existing wireless network.

My router is a WRT54GL running DD-WRT but it is in the basement of a 2-story house and the wireless connection on the top floor isn't great.

I know I can use another DD-WRT-capable router to use WDS to extend the wireless network but I would prefer to use an existing device (server) to perform the same operation. I was hoping there would be a service that could run on the server to re-broadcast or repeat the wireless signal to the second floor of my house using a USB or PCI wifi adapter.

I know there are people here with a lot more experience with networking that me so I was hoping to get some replies.

Thanks

Answer:Possible to use wired PC with wifi to extend wireless network?

yes, if you turn on and configure ICS (internet connection sharing).

but it most definitely is not recommended.

I'd rather spend the $30-50 for another router I could flash dd-wrt onto and set it up as a repeater, or atleast as just another AP.

My friend just moved into a new apartment complex and they provide wifi for their residents but the coverage sucks in his apartment. He can only get a decent signal in the one corner of his place. Is there a way to use an old linksys WRT54g router to "extend" the network and provide better coverage in his apartment?

Throw ddwrt on it and put it into repeater mode.

How to flash it (make sure router versions match!):

Just a quick question. I'm trying to get a device that I can run a CAT6 cable to from my Motorola Modem/Router Combo through the basement and hook into in a room across the house because my WIFI doesn't extend to my master bedroom on the second floor well. I don't want a WIFI extender because I read that it just picks up on your current WIFI and extends it farther but at it's degraded rate. I want a WIFI access point (I think that is what it is called) where I can hook the CAT6 cable into and then project WIFI on the other side of the home plus the upstairs, but I don't want a second username and password like I would get by buying a second router. Will the product below allow me to do this?

http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WA...194486_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1414294134&sr=1-1

I'm no expert so I'm just throwing something out there I tried some time ago that worked relatively well. I know u don't want to try a repeater but if you have a spare laptop, you can extend/repeat the signal to at least try it out. Sometimes running cable isn't optimal....

I have Beetel 450TC2 ADSL Modem Router connected to ISPs RJ 11 (Phone Line - DSL) at ground floor of my home. All devices 3 laptops and 3 Android Phones (Yureka, Mi3 and Samsung S5) are connected over WiFi and enjoy good signal n speeds on ground floor and front half of first floor.

I need WIFI n Internet connectivity at full first and second floor and possibly 3rd floor (if not asking too much)

I have spare D-Link DSL-G604T and D-Link DSL-2640T, WiFi ADSL modem routers.

Primary DSL Modem Router Beetel 450TC2 has PPPoE Airtel Connection with dynamic ip from ISP. My DSL is on 24x7.
IP Address: 192.168.1.1 255.255.255.0

Laptops n Smartphones get anything like 192.168.1.2 - 9 at max and even more when guests are here.

I do not have option to connect the 450TC2 and G604T /2640T using wire (Phone or CAT 5/6 or Electric) as per design of house building.

I cannot use G604T /2640T as primary router.

I do see WDS setting in Beetel 450TC2 but not in G604T /2640T.

I have not changed anything on 450TC2, however i have RESET G604T /2640T and then changed following using wired lan connection between PC n G604T / 2640T

IP of G604T /2640T to 192.168.1.254
Wireless SSID n Channel to be same as 450TC2 i.e. SabharwalHome and 1
DHCP at G604T /2640T has been disabled.

No ATM/PPP settings have been configured as the G604T /2640T devices have been HARD RESET using the button provided.

Please help!

Answer:Extend WiFi range of 450TC2 router using G604T/2640T

i suspect those routers will not work as extenders
they cannot have DD-WRT installed

The can be used as switches , but you would need to run a cable

the other option is powerline adapters which use the electrical wiring , you can get them with a wireless facility as well

or wireless extenders

So here's the pickle. (And first post) TWC router with built-in wifi right. Come home every night, fire up PS4 (connected via CAT 5), nothing else is on my router wirelessly at this point ( have a Tablet but it has been off for months and was put in airplane mode before I turned it off), router is mounted to the wall. I can see the slow steady blink of the lan from the PS4. However, I notice the rapid wifi light going off too? iPhone wifi is still off at this point and it's only able to use 3G but here's the kicker I'm asking about. Wifi flashy connectivity indicator stops when I power the iPhone off. Any thoughts? Guess's? Ect. Again, I have used/still use a few net monitor apps(not the free versions either); Net analyzer, system monitor pro, and fling. My network is password blocked and unique for both login and pass so I seriously doubt it's a neighbor (I disabled the guest option when I first got the router). I have performed the "iPhone power down -> wifi stops" multiple times and I get the same results. The silly reason I ask all this is because I want to know if it's the phone using the wifi without permission (anyone else's do this?) or (doubt it) if somebody is getting free wireless internet and if so, they are waaaaaay smarter then I at network security.

Answer:Anyone explain how/why iPhone wifi?

That is weird. Who knows with apple products though. They may be doing something weird and undocumented.

Hello! Recently I've been having wi-fi problems on my laptop. It is a Toshiba Satellite P55-A5312 model, so it can only connect to 2.4 ghz wifi. Not sure if that's important. This is happens even if no one is home, so I know it's not caused by another user.

The thing is my iphone 5s wifi works perfectly. I initially suspected it was a recent java update I did, so I did a system restore and the internet seemed to be fine for a day after that..now it's really slow again and it's been slow these past few days.

They are pretty random intervals of internet being incredibly slow..then it would work again for a couple seconds...then become slow again.

Here is my ipconfig data. I've also a screenshot of Xirrus Wi-Fi inspector. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Hey everyone

I'm desperately trying to connect my iPhone and iPad to the wifi at work. I'm allowed to do this (as is everyone), although I appear to be having issues with both. I select the wifi network, enter the password and I just have a small spinning circle right beside the name of the wifi network, as if it's trying to connect but nothing happens.

The weirdest thing is that my iPhone was connected to the network about two weeks ago, but I restored my phone since then and now it's having issues. Actually, it was having issues before I restored the phone. The iPad is brand new as well and it has the same problem. Is it an issue with the OS update?

I can connect to my home wifi just fine, though, which makes me think that it's an issue with the router. The strange part about it is that all of the laptops here can connect to the wifi.

Hey there..

Got a dilemma.. Been trying to connect to wireless network connection..

I've opened up control panel, then network connections and see that "wireless network connection" is not connected, firewalled?? But when i open it up I'm active displays all green for signal strength but as soon as I go to connect a window pops up saying: windows is unable to connect to the selected network. The network may no longer be in range. Please refresh the list of available networks and try to connect again..

I do that and still pops up with the same statement..

But if I plug my iPhone in through the USB port I can get Internet..

Can you please help..

Answer:iPhone 4Gs wont connect to my computers Wifi..

Unplug the power plug to the Modem and the Router. Plug the power into just the Modem (unless you have a modem/router combo) When all the lights come up, plug in the power to the Router (unless combo of course)
Now Go to Start/Run and type inetcpl.cpl and press enter/Connections/LAN Settings. Make sure all the boxes are unchecked. Now go to Start/Run and type ncpa.cpl and press enter. Right click the Local Area connection/Properties scroll down to Internet Protocol (TCP-IP)/Properties. Make sure Obtain an IP Address and DNS Server Address Automatically are both checked. Now go to Start/Run and type CMD and press enter. IN the Command Prompt type ipconfig /release and press enter. the IP Address changes to 0.0.0.0 Now type ipconfig /flushdns and press enter. Now type ipconfig /renew. Now type ipconfig /all. You should have a new IP address try it again. If you still cannot connect please include the text output of your ipconfig /all in your next post

Other devises in the house will also connect to the router, so the problem doesn't seem to be there. I was told that my settings are probably off and that I needed to create a new home ip address. Tried doing the ipconfig/release and then renew, but that doesn't work if I can't connect to that IP address. How can I get it to recognize the IP address?

Hi,

I have searched Google, this forum and others but I can't seem to find a yes or no on this topic.

I have an iPhone 3Gs, I can use it as a tethered modem fine and the speeds are pretty good (on a 3G network). At home I have 3G and Wifi ( wifi through my ISP). I can connect my phone and use it OR use wifi but I can't use both together.

I seem to recall in XP you could do modem doubling (correct me if that's not the correct terminology).

Answer:Printer wifi disappeared from iPad/iphone

Turn the printer off, unplug the power cable from the back, wait a few seconds, reconnect the power cable then turn it back on again. I've found that that tip can frequently solve communication problems.
If that doesn't work then I recommend you connect your printer to your home wireless network then use Apple AirPrint from your devices. It's dead-easy and a lot less faff than having to disconnect from one WiFi network and connect to another. Have a read here if you're not familiar with AirPrint.

So, one day I was examining my network and I noticed that there was an iPhone connected to my router. First, I live in an area with "older" folks who cant afford/use an iPhone. The only person I know of that has one is my cousin who lives a few doors down. I cant be sure that it isnt him, but im 95% sure. Hello!

Thank you lovely people for being helpful. You all deserve very good karma.

A few months ago my wireless adaptor started sporadically not working, and I would unplug and replug and it would work. Finally it stopped working altogether. When I plug it in it says at the bottom right: Installing drivers... for a few sec then says drivers could not be installed. But I already had the drivers! I also notice it will say "Linksys Wireless Adapter #9". Number 9? I only have one! Side note: the lights on the adapter do come on.

I downloaded the drivers for the Linksys USB wireless adaptor and tried to install them, but it said they were already current. I tried another wireless adapter and got the same error. I tried starting the PC in safe mode and the problem persisted.

I then noticed that my iPhone wouldn't charge either, and it gave the same error message about drivers. None of the USB ports are working for the wireless adapter or the iPhone. However the keyboard and mouse are working ok in some of the ports.

After starting it in safe mode and running all the antivirus and spyware scans I have, as well as an optimizer program, it actually started working for a little while, but soon stopped again. Another thing I tried was shutting down, unplugging all ports, letting it sit for a few minutes and starting it up again. That worked once but hasn't worked several other times.

I have tried researching this problem and only gave myself a headache. I ... Read more

Now the problem at first glance looks to be with the USB ports so hence we need to know the specs so that we can check for drivers etc.

I am wondering what that opitmiser program is you have got too as I distrust anything that promises better performance when it can be done with help from this forums members without risking downloading a ton of crappy software.
One thing you can do straight away in safe mode if necessary are these

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/433-disk-check.html < if necessary use the options /f and /r in Option2

But specs please.

Hello. I need a mobile WiFi device, is a Pocket WiFi practically the same thing as any Android or iPhone that could serve as a personal hotspot? In terms of the signal strength and reliability.

When I access ANY website or services on any other portable devices with the WiFi provided by the Android or iPhone that serves as a personal hotspot, I know that a website or service could trace or fingerprint my portable device that accesses the sites or services, but would the websites or services be able to trace or fingerprint my Android or iPhone that serves as a personal hotspot as well?

Hi everyone, after getting my internet sorted out yesterday (thank you Tim!) i'm trying to share my home broadband connection between my pc and my Iphone using a wifi usb adapter. I know this can be done as i've read of many others being able to do this but i've been trying for hours now and feel like i'm just going round in circles and would love it if anyone can point to where i'm going wrong.

Here's my current setup:
Home broadband going to a wired netgear router going into my pc.
I have 3 network connections showing in my control panel:
1) a 1394 connection termed a "net adapter" (no idea what this connection does, it's been on my pc since day one
2) a local area connection
3) a wireless network connection which i think i've managed to create properly but i have no idea

icons on my taskbar are telling me the adapter is connected to the network "iphone" and i also have an icon telling me "Wireless Network Connection 2 (peer to peer) signal strength excellent, status connected"

i've switched my iphone to wifi and it says it found and connected to the wifi connection "iphone" after i entered the network code i created.

but nothing happens. when i try to check my email on my iphone it just says checking for mail but this lasts until i come out of it. i know very little about ip addresses and think this might be the problem, as i've read that after creating and connec... Read more

Answer:Connection Iphone to home broadband through wifi usb adapter

Hi

The way I did it was as follows.

Go to settings on your iphone, then wifi. Assuming your router has it's wifi on, the iphone should detect it. Connect to your router. The iphone will ask you to enter the passcode which should be on the back of your router. Hey presto, you're on the net!

If you are asking a completely different question to the one I thought you were asking, I apologise. But maybe it will help someone else.

This alas, is a very well known and oft posted problem (www.whirlpool.com.au) and appears unresolvable!

Basically my Iphone - sitting on top of the router - will not consistantly connect AND maintain the connection.

If I keep at it over and over again it will eventually connect but then lose same in a matter of a few seconds.

As this NETGEAR modem also handles my wife's PC and a laptop without any problems, I have to believe it is in the iPhone settings that the problem exists!

OK, I have done the following:

1. Done a factory reset on the NETGEAR modem
2. Reset the iPhone to factory (Yuck!)
3. Reset over and over again the NETWORK SETTINGS on the iPhone
4. Set up "another" network with NETGEAR to see if the default one it finds is "faulty"
5. Pretty well done everything that has been suggested on the www.whirlpool forums where, as above, thias is a very common problem, all to no avail!

Everything points to a weak, poor or broken NETGEAER conection but the little connection ICON comes in loud and clear and when I do finally get a connection it works fine - for a few seconds!

The iPhone worked well on this exact system setup after purchase and it is only in the last few weeks that it has gone bad!

Wonder if I reset the phone back to original via iTunes if that would work?

Hi,

There's a program I use (Pocket Informant iPhone Outlook Sync) which requires that my PC and iPhone be on the same network in order to sync.

The problem is that it works only when using my home network. When I'm at home, from my PC I am able to successfully ping my iPhone, which is connected to my WiFi network. This works whether myh PC is also ethernet-connected or WiFi-connected.

When I travel, however, even though I successfully connect to the WiFi network on my iPhone and PC, I am unable to ping my iPhone.

I have tried disabling the Windows Firewall and I get the same result!

I can't believe that all these different WiFi networks I connect to (airport, hotel, work) that they all have a configuration issue, so I'm thinking that the reason for the discrepancy must be because of some setting/configuration on my PC/home network.

Is there anyhing else besides disabling the Windows Firewall that I can try?

Thanks!

Answer:Unable to ping my iPhone on any WiFi outside my home network

You wouldn't want your devices pingable from a public network... thus the reason they're configured this way.

What is the best way to permanently disable the ability to use a laptop to access the internet, e via Lan AND wifi so that it can't be 'very easily' reversed but can be reversed if needed at a later date. Is the best way to disable both hardware devices in the Bios and put a Bios password on?

Hello-

I just bought an alienware M18x, and set it up a few days ago. To my knowledge, all of the drivers are up to date. Yet my internet is still slow (about half the time). I run a speed test, and it says my download speed is 0 mbps for a few moments, then it skyrockets and averages out to about 8. The upload speed is more consistent, but only at 0.3 mbps. I have centurylink at up to 12, and they've told me that the connection itself is fine. Encryption type is set to TKIP, as this helped before (though it's slow regardless). I can post my dxdiag if necessary. Any ideas?

Answer:Wifi Internet to my new laptop is slow

do you have other PCs on the router and do they work OK ?
all of the drivers are up to date.Click to expand...

sometimes you need to actually update the driver by downloading the driver and installing , rather than just doing an update

also try

Uninstall and allow windows to re-install the adapter and Driver
I would goto device manager and right click on the adapter and uninstall/remove and then restart the PC and let windows re-detect the hardware and reinstall the driver

I cant connect to any wireless connection. I tried at my house and school and it shows either a red x, yellow triangle, or yellow ball showing connections are available. I can connect through ethernet though. I ran into this problem a few weeks ago but it was fixed after I did a malware scan but I have done many scans and everything clean. I also did ipconfig. Can someone help me?
Thanks

Answer:Laptop cant connect to the internet using wifi

If malware was involved try running this
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Also, more specific specs on your system would be helpful.
Model number ...stuff like that.

It wouldn't hurt to look for updated driver/software for your wifi device either.
Which I could point you to if I knew what kind of system we were dealing with.

Hello,

I have an HP Pavilion g7-2233cl Laptop running Windows 8. I bought it new (refurbished) about a year and a half ago.

Until recently, I’ve had no problem connecting to the Internet via WiFi. But recently, although everything says I’m connected to our home WiFi and things are working swimmingly, I cannot access anything on the Internet. I get messages like “Unable to connect” or “Cannot show this page.”

We have other computers on the same WiFi, and none of them are having a problem.

I’ve tried several remedies based on tips I’ve seen on the Internet (using a different computer, of course). For example, I:

Deleted all the temp files.

Flushed a bunch of stuff using the Admin. Command Prompt:
ipconfig /flushdns
nbtstat –R
nbtstat –RR
netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
netsh winsock reset

Disabled Webroot.

Connected to the router via an ethernet cable.

Tried System Restore to about a month earlier.

Nothing helped.

Any suggestions?
Bill

Apologies if I get some of the technical jargon wrong but I pretty useless when it comes to IT issues.

I have a Satellite Pro A200 and had problems connecting to various wifi connections.
The computer would see the wifi connection and connect to it but i wasn't able to connect to the internet.

The office issue has now been sorted by our IT support guy (security settings on the new router we too complex for my PC or something like that) but he wasn't able to solve the problem of not being able to connect to my iphone to use the 'hotspot' feature via wifi.

Does anyone know a way of solving this or is it a simple fact of the laptop being too old and really needs updating?

Thanks for any assistance anyone is able to give.

Answer:Satellite Pro A200 failing to connect with iphone hotspot via wifi

> Does anyone know a way of solving this or is it a simple fact of the laptop being too old and really needs updating?

This is not a question of notebook age?
As far as I know not all mobile phone providers support this?
You should firstly ask your mobile provider if you can use the tethering function.

If this would be supported my mobile provider, then you have to connect the iphone to the notebook firstly
For that you?ve got two options: you could use the BT connection (in such case check if notebook supports BT too) or via USB cable provided with the iPhone.

(PS: As far as I know tethering is support by iOS3.0 and higher?)

After the iphone has been connected to the notebook you need to enable the tethering on iphone.
Under Settings -> Network you should see the option internet tethering? this need to be enabled.
Now you should be able to see that in Network & sharing Center of the control panel.

I've had spotty luck connecting to my iPhone via Wifi to gain internet access over LTE. In the midst of troulbeshooting, I once hit 'forget' this network instead of disconnect, and had to go through all sorts of hoops and a registry hack to get it to appear back in the list of available networks.  Still it's not very predictable.  I turn on my LTE Personal Hotspot on my iPhone and then go hunting for it on my Thinkpad 370, and the solution doesn't ever seem to be the same thing twice: 1) Turn Wi-Fi on/off2) Show available networks from setttings (many times)3) Reboot4) Change power settings on Wi-Fi Adapter5) Fiddle in control panel6) Show available networks again and again, sometimes this causes the iPhone to show up at the top of the list of hot spots nearby.7) Go to network status, sometimes the iPhone just shows up under status and connects. It's really just unpredictable I'm afraid.  I don't have it paired as a bluetooth device, so there's not that complication I'm afraid. Has anyone seen this odd behavior and is there a known good process to make it work correctly?  Similar to my post on my bluetooth headphones in the same forum, I'm really just looking for a consistent experience. Thanks in advance for any sage advice.

Answer:WiFi Access Point on iPhone via LTE, once forgotten, now flaky to connect

Hi,

I'll start with stating that I don't think this has anything to do with your issue, so FWIW:

I had strange wifi problems with my pre-production 370 with some access points.  I don't recall seeing exactly what you describe, but certainly had inconsistent behavior.

The "fix" in my case was fiddling with the channel width settings for the card via device manager.  I've since swapped in an Intel 8260NGW and haven't seen the same behavior.  There have also been a ton of updates since then too so it's possible that whatever was going on would have been resolved by now anyway.

Dear Friends,

I am encountering strange issue while connecting my laptop to my home wifi router. I have 4 devices connected to router and working perfectly, but my Dell laptop suddenly stopped connecting to internet. It seems to be connected to router, but says No Internet Access. This is new issue, since it was working fine along with other 4 devices in the past.

Tried doing some basic steps, like - Removing the devices from Network Center and adding again, Reset the Router, ipconfig /renew ipconfig /release..but nothing works.

The funny thing is when I do a USB/Wifi Hotspot Tethering using same wifi with my Android phone, the Dell laptop connects to internet.

So, Its clear that Wifi Router is Good, Internet is Good, Laptop Network Card is also good, but something else is wrong. Please help.

Answer:Wifi Worked But No Internet Connection on My Laptop

Because you had McAfee installed you need to use the special uninstall procedure to remove it completely from your system per the link below.
http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=TS101331

You may have better luck using WPA2 security with AES encryption rather than the outdated, unsecure and slower WEP security. You can change these settings in the routers control panel.

You appear to have a valid IP here so most likely something is blocking or interfering with the connection.

You will also want to disable the Microsoft virtual adaptor by using the following commands at an elevated command prompt, typed or copy/paste them one at a time hitting enter after each one.

Code:
netsh wlan stop hostednetwork

Code:
netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=disallow

I am using an HP Pavilion dv7 with a Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2230 network adapter trying to connect to the wifi router on campus from my dorm room. The routers are placed in the common areas, so I do not receive a very strong signal in my room, but it works good enough for my Android phone to connect just fine and have a reasonable speed. My laptop on the other hand, which works fine in the common areas with good signals, at times struggles to get internet. I have episodes where I can connect just fine and receive sufficient speed, but then at other times, I connect to the wifi but I cannot connect to the internet. I click Diagnose on the Wireless Network Connection Status, which runs and claims to find an error which is fixed by resetting the wireless adapter. Rarely does this actually fix the problem though. I am curious as to what could be causing this spotty internet connection with my laptop, when my phone always works just fine. Could it be something with HP's default WLAN manager? I read something about updating to Intel's wifi manager but I could not get the update to work with my Windows 7 64-bit OS. Does anyone have some insight that can make my laptop connect better?

I just bought this laptop about a month and a half ago, and a few weeks ago I noticed the Wifi is slow when my laptop is not plugged in. I looked up the issue and changed my power saver settings so that the wifi would have high performance even when not plugged in to the power source. This seemed to work for a couple days, but now it runs slow again when not plugged in. I went back into the settings to make sure they didn't revert to default, but everything is as I changed it and the problem persists. My internet is SUPER slow when my laptop is not plugged in and works perfectly fine when it is plugged in. I have been unable to find anyone with a similar issue and there are no other settings that pertain to my internet use that I can change to affect any outcome. Is anyone else having similar issues? Is there a fix for this? I don't like the idea of having to keep my laptop plugged in all the time for internet use. That kind of defeats the purpose of having  a portable computer.

I keep having trouble staying on the wifi at a local coffee shop (Panera). Once I connect, it stays connected for maybe 10 minutes. Then constantly drops off. Disconnect, wait a minute then reconnect, and it might work again for a short time.

Reboot the laptop, and the process starts all over again.

Never have any trouble on any other wifi. Another laptop that I will occasionally bring stays connected for well over an hour. Same with my phone.

Can anyone offer any suggestions. Thanks.
Here are the specs to the laptop.

I'm not computer savvy so please keep replies dummied down if at all possible. I used this laptop last on Friday and booted it today and cannot connect to the internet via wifi. No problems whatsoever before this. Checked with other computers and devices in the house and the wireless network and internet are working fine. Checked this laptop and wifi is on (airplane mode off), says its connected to the router (in connections) but icon in tray just scrolls and says "identifying". Using the LAN works fine. Looked at wireless card and it says device is working properly and is fully updated. This computer is running windows 8 which I'm still having trouble navigating through.

Have you tried turning off the Wifi and then back on? Windows 8 should have that if you press the start key and typing in Wi-Fi. Click on Settings when you search and something for connections should appear. Turn off WiFi then back on to see if that helps.
