I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: ping; Destination host unreachable

Is there a default gateway option that you can put in for the xbox?

To put it simply, I'm just trying to successfully ping machines attached to a hub for now. Here is the setup:

5 Port ethernet Hub
Computer connected to port 1
Linux machine connected to port 2
Linux machine connected to port 3

Both linux machines have (different) static IP addresses. None of this is connected to any outside network, internet, etc. I don't know what I'm doing wrong with this setup because I can't successfully ping the Linux machines from my computer and I'm not sure what the issue is.

Answer:Ping-Destination Host unreachable?

Are the assigned ip address to each machine on the same subnet?

for example if I set the following ip addresses

1 - 192.168.1.1 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0
2 - 192.168.1.2 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0
3 - 192.168.1.3 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0

so each computer is on the 192.168.1 network.
In this example each computer would be able to ping each other.

if each computer was configured on different networks like the following:

1 - 192.168.1.1 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0
2 - 192.168.2.1 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0
3 - 192.168.3.1 with a subnet of 255.255.255.0

In this case each computer is on a different network 192.168.1, 192.168.2, and 192.168.3, so in this example the only way for those computers to talk to each other is if a router was in place on each network. Without a router you would get network unreachable or something to that effect.

The nic is fine, I can ping the nic. Am unable to ping the outside world, I am not using a router, I am using XPPro. Have run Ad-Aware & deleated what it found, have deleated winsock2 & replaced it with a good copy. Have run CW Shredded, nothing found. I have had this problem on several computers & ended up formating the HD & installing a new copy of XPPro to resolve the problem. I have connected my laptop and am able to get out fine, this is a software problem & not equipment. Any help will be greatly appricated

Answer:Destination Host Unreachable

Lets take it in a few steps. Try pinging your gateway 192.168.1.1 to see if we get errors. If not, then ping your DNS servers (124.106.6.2 & 124.106.4.2). Then try pinging 108.175.7.71. What are your results?

I have searched everything and tried everything. Have an HP Desktop Pavilion. Purchased a MFC 8950dw Printer. One Desktop in the office Acer M3470 connected without Disks, system works beautifully. We have a Linksys wireless router. On the HP Pavilion nothing works. Continue to get "destination host unreachable". Here are the specks. Any help other than what's already been offered? I removed all firewall trying to make that work.

Answer:destination host unreachable

You need to tell us what the problem is, not what error you get. What are you trying to do? What are you pinging? Is the HP Pavillion connected to the router via WiFi or cable? Can it connect to the Internet?
Any other pertinent information would help.

Given that you are using RIP (an old routing protocol not used in current production environments), and the name of the file you attached is "assignment2", I think it's safe to assume this is a school assignment.

Unfortunately we cannot provide assistance with school assignments here.

Hey Everyone! I'm having some bizarre issues with all of my Lenovo W530/W540's.  I'm not sure when the issue started, the first time it was reported to me was around March, and it has been persistant since the issue was discovered.  The issue is that, quite frequently, our Lenovo W530/W540's will get Destiantion Host Unreachable if I run a continuous ping (ping -t ...) to anything outside our firewall. I have run a ping to things inside our firewall (other computers/servers, etc.) and they will return good ping until the cows come home. However, if I try to ping anything outside our firewall (google.com, google DNS 8.8.8.8, yahoo.com, etc.) about every 30 seconds (every 30-35 returns) it starts returning Destitnation Host Unreachable from our Firewall.  This will last for around 10-25 returns, and then traffic goes back to normal. We are a majority Apple Shop, and when I attempt to ping from any Apple on the network, it get fine returns consistently.  I also tried pinging from the few non-Lenovo Windows Machines we have as well (my personal machine which is self-built Windows rig, a couple of windows test machines, and a Windows 2008 Server we have) and they also have consistently good returns as well. It is ONLY the Lenovo's that have this problem.  To compound things, they have no issue when they are connected to a different network other than the company network.  This ONLY happens when they try to interact with traffi... Whenever I try to access www.dlink.com (or subdomains), or www.dzone.com, I get a "Connection closed by remote server" error in Opera (similar messages in other browsers).

When I try to ping or tracert either of the hosts, I get a "Destination host unreachable" error.

This has also occurred on other websites, which I cannot remember right now, and occurs with both Optus (my ISP) and OpenDNS as dns servers.

It also seems to be intermittent. Yesterday, I was able to access www.dzone.com without any issues for some time, yet today and the day before, this error was occurring.

Also, possibly unrelated, the website www.tv.com is extremely slow when loading.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what the issue is?

The traceroute and ping work fine from network-tools.com, so it must be something from my end.

The IP's are resolved correctly (when I ping or tracert, the IP shown is correct according to OpenDNS's cache). However, when typing either the hostname or the IP in the address bar, I still get the error.

Thanks for reply.

Edit: Also, a ping from my router is "successful", ie: in firmware, there is an option to ping hosts, and this returns successful. All firewalls are disabled.

Answer:Unable to access certain websites: "destination host unreachable"?

Sounds like you've got a DNS issue. Those are handled by your ISP, so you're pretty much screwed if that's the problem. Here's how to check your DNS connections:

1. Open a command prompt Start -> Run... -> cmd.
If you're using Vista, the command prompt is under the Accessories Menu.

2. At the prompt, type ns lookup, and hit enter. This puts your command prompt into Domain Naming Service lookup mode, meaning you can try to resolve websites' names and ip's from their websites.

3. Type the web address of a known website, such as yahoo.com or google.com, and hit enter. You should get the name and the ip address of the site in the command prompt window.

4. Once you've found one that works every time, this will be your Control site. You know it works, so you use it to check your connection.

5. Now, use the address of one of the sites that's not working. If you do get a reply from the site, then the problem isn't with your ISP. You'll need to check your connection speeds and other network settings to test the problem further. If the websites don't resolve, contact your ISP, and tell them their DNS isn't working properly. You're going to need to get to someone fairly high up the food chain, so be ready to be really patient for that part.

Hey guys, I'm trying to setup an RMI in java, after struggling with it for a long time I noticed that it's probably not my RMI that isn't working, but that there's something wrong in my networking.
When I asked a friend outside of the city to ping me to test his ability to connect to me, he said the result was Destination Host Unreachable. After a lot of googling I got explained that this is likely a physical problem, which is weird because I have perfect internet acces. I've disabled all my firewalls, and googling this problem is nearly impossible because googling "Destination host unreachable" usually gives results of attempts to ping a local machine from another local machine, not getting pinged from outside of your network. Does anyone have any idea what this could possibly be ?
I've tried:
1. Restarting all network devices in my network.
2. Changing IPv4 settings to a static IP.
3. Activating Remote Access service (failed)
4. Checking all physical cables

I have a number of XP and W7 PCs in a domain with internet connection, all working fine.

I've wired my Linux laptop to the network, DHCP, and it can talk to other devices on the network. But I can't get connected to any site outside the network - ping to any external address gives "192.168.1.1 Destination Net Unreachable" 192.168.1.1 is the correct address for the router, and any Windows machine can ping to any address via that same router.

Any ideas please?

I'm getting this message when I tracert sf.net. No other website is having problems being accessed from my network, only sourceforge. A ping responds with:

A tracert responds with 15 successful hops, and then:
16 sourceforge.net [66.35.250.203] reports: Destination protocol unreachable.

I cant figure out where the problem is originating. I created a static route to allow all traffic to this address on my 1710 router. My SDSL modem is able to ping and tracert successfully. Ping and tracert from my Cisco 1710 router gives the unreachable error.
Network setup is:

It gave a source IP address

Attack type: ICMP Destination Unreachable

There were four entries of this in 2 minutes, in my firewall log. Any ideas what this is?

Thanks

Answer:ICMP Destination Unreachable warning

These are usually just ping entries. Some applications and sites use them just to check on the validity of connections. It's possible someone was scanning ports, but that really depends on the pattern, and more sophisticted scanners use a scattered pattern that is not so easily detected by firewalls.

In any case, it was blocked. In some cases, you may find that you need to allow some ICMP traffic for applications to work correctly.

Linux IPv6 Destination Unreachable problem
Hello,

Please help! I am quite new to network programming and so I tested out a sample client-Server application. The TCP or UDP client is either setup as either IPv6 or IPv4, depending on the server address type input by the user on a command line. The server has 4 sockets, one each for TCP/IPv6, TCP/IPv4, UDP/IPv6, UDP/IPv4. There is no router on this network, and the two platforms are on the same link

The client is able to communicate with the server in following combinations:

1) Client TCP IPv4, Server IPv4
2) Client UDP IPv4, Server IPv4
3) Client TCP IPv6, Server IPv4 using IPv6 mapped IPv4 address
4) Client UDP IPv6, Server IPv4 using IPv6 mapped IPv4 address
5) Client TCP IPv6, Server IPv6 both on same plaforms
6) Client UDP IPv6, Server IPv6 both on same plaforms

However, the following does not work is client and server are on diffent platforms
1) Client TCP IPv6, Server IPv6
2) Client UDP IPv6, Server IPv6

However, the application has a problem connecting. The tracedump6 shows the ICMPv6 message indicating “Destination unreachable”, “Unreachable address”.

The ping6 command from client to server platform works fine. I am at a deadend.

Following are some of the information for debugging. Will appreciate any help I can get in fixing this problem.

Hi guys I'm new here hope you can help :)
- have seen a similar thread in windows, probably should have been in networking section I apologize.
My internet provider has Wi-fi networks across the city, our tenement house has a receiver.
I am connected to router via cable. With very varied frequency I am getting random packet loss - up to 5% which makes e.g. gaming annoying.
It does so for all websites I tried.

At times there is no packet loss for even 5 minutes, sometimes every 20seconds or so I get "request timed out" followed by "10.6.41.1 destination unreachable"

- Is the issue on providers' site, or between my PC and the router?
-Any solutions to fix this?

Every weekend for the last 3 weeks, starting at about 11am on saturday and going through the weekend until monday, the site in question will be totally unreachable from any PC on my network. I can reach it from my phone on VZW LTE, but not from the WLAN. If I ping the site I get an error "Destination Net Unreachable". If I run a tracert I go about 15-18 hops before getting the same error. If I plug the PC directly into the modem, the website is reachable. That definitely indicates a router-side problem. The thing is, the router's configuration hasn't been touched in months, if not years, and the problem is recent. the router in question is a DIR-655, and there is no QOS, no parental controls, nothing that has been manually set up that would obviously be causing this issue. The setup is as barebones as it gets. Again, it is one specific website (pbnation.com), everything else works 100% fine. Any ideas?

This is driving me nuts! I have no problems at all with connecting via the WWW and Firefox/IE. However, any attempt to use FTP results in a time-out. The FTP client site said to try pinging but I find that ping times out as well. Could someone please help a clueless non-techie? I have no idea how to even begin troubleshooting this.

Thanks a bunch.

Question: Unreachable host

Hi Everyone,

For some reason, I cannot get my digital display sign to play well with my pc. I have had tech help, help from the installer, and trouble shooting myself, etc.

If the following makes any sense to anyone, feel free to share the knowledge. Thanks in advance!

2 nights ago I purchased a Linksys WPC54GS for my laptop so that I could access the Free Wireless Internet at the motel I was staying at in Ohio, and it worked great. Now I am in a hotel in CA that has free Wireless Internet access also, and my computer says I'm connected, but when I try to access the internet I get "Host is unreachable or DNS server culd not resolve the DNS name." Can anyone tell me what to do to get online?

Answer:Host is unreachable

Go down to the front desk and ask them for their network settings/codes etc. See if they can help you since its their network.

Hello everyone.

After recently having a problem re-registering a company's Domain name that had expired without them even knowing about it and waiting for the public DNS records to propogate, their office can now receive emails etc from people outside their LAN but can now no longer send emails from within to outside the LAN. It seems their Exchange server is queuing up all outgoing emails and is giving a error message to senders saying "host unreachable"

Any Exchange Gurus that can help out here?

Didn't change any settings on any of the servers, just registered their domain name and waited for the ISP's DNS records to finish propogating. Do I have reset something like the internal DNS server?

Thanks!

I'm trying to update Avast free AV (it's the first update), and it keeps saying "host unreachable"! Is this happening because of my slow internet (it is slow), or Avast servers are having technical problems? I looked it up on google and they said somewhere that Avast's servers were hacked in the past which caused this problem! If this really happened once, how can they be trusted again?

Answer:Avast Free "host unreachable"?

try to do a clean installation, and see your firewall, logs. You could also do a clean install of the latest version, see : https://docs.google.com/document/d/1TCCX0R7AAF2WOxAMQ_kcun2nNnCPFAk2P4RBzFXSgds/edit?pli=1
I think that can be your slow...internet too.

I was configuring routers today and a problem arose. One of the hosts on the network could be the pingee but not the pinger. It could not even ping its default gateway. I double checked got someone else to check that every thing was configured correctly.
What could have gone wrong if not for the misconfiguration?

Thanks

Hi there,

I've done a Google search and saw quite a few threads similar to mine, unfortunately none of the suggested solutions seemed to work for me, so I wonder if anyone can help.

I have a Windows XP Lenovo laptop that I suspect had some malware which has since been removed (ran various virus and malware killer scans and all come up empty).

However, while the laptop connects to the modem/router (via Ethernet, disabled wireless to avoid confusion) it doesn't seem to connect to the internet via any browsers (Chrome, IE etc).

Windows Firewall is disabled, no other firewall exists. Anti Virus is also disabled just to clear the path.

I can ping the router/modem by IP, I can ping other PC's on the home network by IP and name all successfully, I can also ping localhost successfully, but whenever I try to ping say www.yahoo.com it gives me the "ping request could not find host www.yahoo.com. Please check the name and try again". Pinging Yahoo's IP address however does work and gets responses.

I checked the host file name and it is empty apart from the "127.0.0.1 localhost" line.

I tried running some winsock fixing tools as well, but no luck. Still no internet connection.

If I type the IP address of my modem/router into a browser window I get the modem/router console, so connectivity between modem/router and the laptop is there, just not to the internet as such.

My "Ipconfig /all" output is as follows:

This is my 2. day with Windows 7. I'm having difficulties sharing an internet connection. There's a one-way connection only, apparently.

Host: Windows 7 build 7100 (192.168.0.1).
Client: Debian (192.168.0.2).

Host and client is connected via cross-over cable. Host features a second network connection to a switch box.

I can connect to Samba share on client, and ping 192.168.0.2 too. SSH login on client is accessible also. But I can't ping host at 192.168.0.1 from client. Therefore no internet connection

I'm kind of lost, so any help much appreciated.

I'm trying to setup ICS between two XP PCs, as well as File and Printer Sharing. The host is directly connected to the net via ADSL, and is connected physically to the client via a cable. I've looked all over the net for solutions, but the problem doesn't seem to be solved. My host comp can't ping to the client, but my client has no problem pinging the host. Also, the Deafult Gateway icon is missing. My guess is that something is wrong with the client's IP since I used the IP can't be found via third-party softwares, even though I'm sure I've assigned a static IP to the client. I've even double-checked with ipconfig.
Client's IP: 192.168.0.2
Host's IP: 192.168.0.1
I tried using CCProxy and the IP works, but I still want to use XP's ICS, since there are limitations to using a proxy. On a note, ICS has worked successfully on these PCs in the past. It no longer works after I reformatted one of the PCs.

Furthermore, I have problems with the file sharing. I tried sharing a folder on the host computer, and then map the network drive from the client. The error message appears, "The specified server cannot perform the requested operation". If anyone can tell me what exactly is the problem, I'll appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

First tiem asking for help. I am at my wits end.

Every time I ping avg.com I get the local host 127.0.0.1.

There are no entries in the hosts file. I clear the dns resolver cache and still get local host. When I add avg,com to the host file the reverse dns pointer is correct in the resolver cache but the pointer A record shows up as local host.

I have disabled netbios and there is no lmhost file.

I realize ping is a winsock app and I have dbl checked winsocks and any bogus lsp. I searched for ads and rootkits and found none.

I have rebuilt the tcp\ip stack by removing the nic deleteing the nic enumerations and reinstalling.

I did a packet capture and no icmp packet is even created. Of course nslookup work as it queries the dns directly. My thinking is that there may be a hostname alias because the way MS does name resolution for pings it would stop there and not create an ICMP packet, I can?t seem to find any but am not quite sure where to look

Any ideas?

Answer:Ping avg.com local host

I am not sure how to move this, it may be for the networking gurus.

I total rebuilt tcp/ip and winsock from instruction in that forum. Also did some expermentation. That re-enforces my idea that it has to do with an aliase

I disbled dnscache and still ping avg.com to local host 127.0.0.1. I fooled around with dns cache provider order, same results. Added the PrioritizeRecrodData=1 dword which is suppose to force dns query beyond the local subnet in case of roundrobin applications. Same results, ping avg.com and it returns 127.0.0.1, (remembr I do not have any host entry but a dummy one for avg.com to resolve to 10.53.10.10 and there is no lmhostfile. I even disbaled dnscache and it still resolves to 127.0.0.1.

Given all that and knowing the first thing ping does when resloving is check to see if it a localhost name and stops. (remember I did a capture packet and there was no icmp packet created). Second after turning the dns cache backon the resolver cahches an A record for avg.com and the record name is "localhost" see output below.

avg.com

Can anyone point me in the right direction ?!?

I have a 3.51 server that is a memeber of a domain. I can successfully ping this server using its hosts name from a workstation on the same domain in the same office area. When I move this workstation to a seperate area in the office I can only successfully ping the server using its IP address. I am unable to connect to any of its resources (Network not found).

I can however still connect/ping the host name of the other servers on the same domain and in the same location as the faulty server.

Any comments gratefully received.

Answer:Unale to ping Server using its Host name

Are you using a name resolution server such as WINS or DNS or are you relying on broadcasts to resolve? Is there any hardware devices (routers) between the server and the new location of the workstation?

Hi, I got this issue today after rebooting my computer (just because it hasnt been rebooted for weeks now). I am able to ping using address, but cannot use host names, including localhost. That applies to physical (home) network, VMnet's and VPN (work) networks. Also, Im able to connect to the VPN, even though the network Im connecting to is resolved by name I think. All my virtual devices are properly listed in the hosts config file.

flushdns did not help.

Any thoughts?

Also, I already tried enabling/disabling all adapters, rebooting again, and changing ip address to static and back to dynamic.

One of three machines on my home network is giving me trouble.
All are running XP SP2.
Call the troublesome one machine "X". It does have connectivity, can access the internet through the router. However, it cannot be seen by other machines on the network, nor can it see shares from other machines.

Specifically, pinging from machine X:
ping other hosts by name or IP: Yes
ping localhost or 127.0.0.1: Yes
ping own hostname or own IP address: No reply.

Pinging from another machine on the network:
ping host other than "X": Yes
ping X by hostname or IP: No

Everything worked at one time, don't know what caused the change.
Any thoughts appreciated.

Answer:Solved: One host can't see network, ping own hostname

Turned out to be a firewall problem. (Symantec Client Firewall)
Needed to have 127.0.0.1 added to the trusted network IP's.

Hi,

This one is really baffling me now...

I have windows 7 ultimate x64 on host and client for ICS.

Host is a laptop with a WIFI card and an Ethernet Card. (Sharing its WIFI through the ethernet card to the PC)

Client is a PC with only a Ethernet Card.

-------------------

Everything is working fine (I have internet from both - can ping each other etc)

But i cannot ping the actual router from the client (PC) - I can ping it fine from the laptop.

Says: Reply from 192.168.1.20: Destination Host Unreachable. (then repeats)

-------------------

Am i missing something? or is it supposed to work like this?

Any help would be majorlly appreachated - as i cannot get to the router login page from any computer other than the laptop which is connected to it wirelessly.

Thank you in advance?

Timez

Answer:Client cannot ping router through host (ICS) - No other problems...

I'm not 100% sure how ics works but my assumption would be that it acts as a router and as such is a layer 3 boundry device. What I would try doing is using a different subnet for the link from the pc to the laptop something like 192.168.2.0/24 as what I think is happening here is from the desktop when you try to access the router it is switching rather than routing and an ics box won't forward on layer 2 packets. I could be off the mark but try a different range on that link

When I try to ping ipv6.xsnews.nl on either of my Windows 7 computers, it returns "Ping request could not find host". But when I do it on XP, it succeeds. I have tried putting the W7 PC in the DMZ, disabling the software firewall but it doesn't help.

What I think it involves is having ipv6 installed on each. I tried to duplicate the setup of both the XP and a W7 computer, installing the gogo6 tunnel. But apparently it's not setup on this computer because the ping result is the same as on the third computer which hasn't had ipv6 installed.

I'm not sure where to even start in troubleshooting this since I've tried googling the error message and find lots of unrelated problems.

Answer:Can't ping/connect ipv6 host on Win7 vs XP

Half solved! Not the better half though.

I found out the reason why I could ping that and other sites that had ipv6-ness was that I was using an OpenDNS DNS on the XP computer. When I moved it to the Win7, I was able to ping.

But the problem remains, why am I not able to access ipv6 servers, and why do sites say I have no ipv6 data?

We have a network containing 15 computers most of them operating Windows 7. One main router connected to Internet, 3 switches and two routers configured as repeater (LAN connected for Internet - DHCP disabled). The network is Work-group type (named WORKGROUP).

Everything works great except one computer running Windows Professional (64bit) with a wired behavior. It is connected wireless through one of the two repeaters. On that repeater there are other 4 computers which can be seen and accessed in browse window.

That computer is able to see all the other machines in the network in browse window. Only it cannot be seen. But I can access its shared folders or shared printer mapping it by IP and shared path. Net use works for IP and for host-name too. Of course the Network discovery is ON, File and printer sharing is ON and Password protected sharing is Off. Antivirus temporary disable and Firewall disable, too...

I can see the incriminated computer on the Network map (with its IP, host-name and MAC address) but I cannot access it with a simple click like all the others. When press 'Click here to see all other devices' everything appears in browser window except this one...

What is strange is the fact that if I connect it to the main router (also wireless) it can be seen in the browser window... But all the other computers connected to the same repeater can be seen in browse window and accessed by simply clicking.

I can share its special label printer and I can use its shar... Read more

this worked for me previously but i started from scratch and now it doesn't.
I have a single pc running windows 7 with a lan cable from it to a synology diskstation NAS.
my win7 pc is 192.168.0.10 and my nas box server name is 'data' with ip 192.168.0.20.

the other day within windows i was able to do \\data in an address bar and saw my file shares. I redid the NAS box today to make sure i understand how everything works, now doing \\data does not work from the win7 pc.

in a command prompt i type 'ping data' and it says could not find host.
but if i do ping 192.168.0.20 it pings successfully, and if i do \\192.168.0.20 in an address bar it shows my file shares and everything works fine

on the windows 7 pc, what causes this and how do i fix?
thanks.

Probably a simple question for most...
I have a small SOHO setup.
Cable Modem --> D-Link Router --> 2 PCs networked together using TCP/IP
I am just curious how it is letting me ping from one PC to the other by using the HOST name of the PC. I know pinging the IP should work but how can it ping the HOST name? How is this possible since I don't have a DNS server running and I haven't modified the HOSTS file to tell the PCs that this HOST name is tied to this IP address.
Does it have something to do with NetBIOS?
Thanks...just wanted to know how it works under the hood.

Answer:[SOLVED] Able to Ping host names without DNS installed, how is it working?

I think there are settings in the router that resolve the names. Type in the address to access your routers settings and see if DNS is enabled.

Hi, recently I had some malware on my Windows XP Professional (version 2002), so I followed a guide at Bleeping Computer (http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/virus-removal/remove-win-7-internet-security-2011) to get rid of it. Problem is, for some reason, after I finished, I could no longer access the internet!

When I try, FIrefox gives me their "could not connect" message:
"Server not found. Firefox can't find the server at [site]." Check the address for typing errors such as ww.example.com instead of www.example.com..."

When I try to log into MSN, the troubleshoot says I have a problem with my DNS and Key Ports.

I'm not good with computers so I Google'd and found some ping-ing instructions. When I tried to ping [site], I get:
"Ping request could not find host [site]. Please check the name and try again."
This happens regardless of the site I use.

Lastly, I tried "ping 127.0.0.1" from a troubleshooting site. It gives me:
"Pinging 127.0.0.1 with 32 bytes of data:

Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128
Reply from 127.0.0.1: bytes=32 time<1ms TTL=128

Ping statistics for 127.0.0.1:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss).
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 0ms, Average = 0ms"

Any help would be much appreciated, thank you!

Hi,

Firstly I am no n00b when it comes to operating systems.  I have been playing this game for more years than I care.  However this thing has got me well and truly stumped.

Not too long ago I believe my machine must have been hit with a rootkit virus of some sort.  I run AVG but for reasons it did not pick this up.  None the less, this has now been cleaned.

Initially it took out my network cards, my wirless, my firewall, renamed my machine with no name, and all sorts of fun things.  Good times, but now mostly resolved.  What I still don't have is internet access.

I am connected to my router (along with my other equipment), trusting in DHCP which works as it should.  I am running Windows 7 home edition (64 bit).  Now the fun part.....I am unable to ping anything by hostname.  Absolutely nada.
I can't can't ping localhost "Ping request could not find host localhost. Please check the name and try again.".  In fact I can throw anything I like in the host file and it will come up with the same error.

I can 100% ping everything via IP address, no issues.
I get 100% responses from nslookup.
I am unable to ping by hostname only.  This is somewhat troublesome as this prevents me from getting to the internet and other things.
I have reset winsock, I have reset tcp, I have uninstalled both my nics and reinstalled them, I have uninstalled SP1 and reinstalled it.  I suspe... Read more

Hi There

I'm helpdesk support for the company I work for and have recenty hit a wall with Windows 7. We have two sites, both with seperate servers. All our computers are networked and named.
The program I normally use to access another computer to help support them is called UltraVNC. I simply enter in the computers name (i.e. "test1") and I can connect to their desktop, alternatively I can also use their IP Address.

The Problem: Now recently we've been doing hardware roll-overs, upgrading alot of our XP machines to Windows 7, and this has raised a few conflicts for our second site. The current one at present is I am unable to get to reach any Windows 7 machines from our second site (I'm primarily based at our first site).
When I say reach, I mean I am unable to:
- Ping using command prompt
- Connect using ultraVNC
- Connect using an RDP connection
- Or map a network drive
USING the computers name only. If I use the IP Address for any of the above it works perfectly fine.
What I can connect to using the computers name are:
- Site One: Any computer windows XP to 7
- Site Two: Windows XP computers only (but also including the domain which is Windows Server 2008).

These Computers are Windows 7 Profesional 64bit Machines, Lenovo Product branded.

What I've tried/Checked:
- Windows firewall is disabled, but I have also checked under Advanced Settings and enabled File and Printer Sharing (Echo Request - ICMPV4-In).
- Remote Desktop Settings are set to allow co... Read more

Is there a DNS server in each Site? If you are logged on to any XP or Server 2008 machine on Site 2 can you still not browse to Windows 7 machines via hostname in the second Site?

Hi,
I posted in 'Am I infected' and was told to run the diagnostic program DDS and post files here.

I have malware that redirects the browser to a number of places I don't want to go nor where i typed. Places like *topsearches6*. It happens on both Firefox and IE. I have Windows 7.
I have Kaspersky installed now as well as Malwarebytes. Neither can find the issues and fix them. I've run Kaspersky's TDSSKiller. It found 2 medium risks, which I deleted, but it didn't help.

When i look at Task Manager, I can often see ping.exe running at up to 90% of cpu.

Kaspersky just informed me that "C:\windows\syswow64\ping.exe downloading object hxxp://domain1for8.in/?site=8 containing Trojan program" Detected: Trojan-Downloader.JS.Iframe.com
I get a lot of these types of messages from Kaspersky.

When I look at Kaspersky report, it shows ping accessing bad places every 2 seconds or so.

Another symptom, perhaps of a different virus/malware was it hid many of my files and almost all of my programs like Paint, MSOffice, etc.. I've since then unhidden all my files and they seem to be working fine.
Thanks for any help,
Andrew

Hi nathan30

Did this just recently start?

Is this a new device or new install?

Is your computer connected wirelessly and is the network set to private? (not public).

Could you fill out system specs please.

When my ISP, Cable One, increased UL and DL speeds a year ago... I assumed that my ping might get better as measured in my online gaming. But I noticed no difference at all.

Cable One is offering new and speedier services: 75/5, and 100/10. I'm tempted to pay more... but I don't know why my ping never gets any better. 50/3 is still the default. I had been on a 10/0.5 plan and I assumed that 50/3 would be a big difference.

I'm comparing apples to apples with my online gaming. I play games generally on only one server, and the server never changed locations when my internet speeds increased.

Any explanation? Thanks.

Answer:Upload/Download speeds versus Ping: Why my ping never gets any better with faster UL

just because you have a bigger pipe, doesn't mean that little packet can travel faster.

You have a car that can do 200MPH.

Think it will go faster on an empty 8-lane highway vs a 4-lane highway?
Nope, it still peaks out at 200MPH regardless of how much room (assuming empty highway, of course.)

Problem: cannot access godaddy.com. All 4 computers on my home network cannot access godaddy.com. I do not get porn I just time out.

What I've done so far:
numerous anti-spyware programs have been run including spybotS&D and HijackThis (both before I found your forums), AdwareSE.
called both godaddy.com and verizon.net (my provider) with no luck, both say everything is fine on their end.

I have followed the FAQ with two problems:

-I mistakenly exited out of Counterspy without the log.
-Bitdefender crashed just as it was going to show the "detected problems" Explorer was the named culprit. I do remember mostly trojans found in email (trash box, Eudora Pro) that were deleted.

I do have the other 4 log files. I hope you can help, I have a website at godaddy.com that needs attending to.

Hi,

I'm not sure what it might be but one day I noticed that about a dozen of websites I open regularly became unavailable. "The connection has timed out."

nslookup works OK and I get IP address resolved, I also tried tracert, it goes through 5-10 hops and then times out. I can still open some web sites but not all of them. I can open all web sites via online proxy so they are all up and running.

I have ADSL modem connected to my laptop, no routers, the modem doesn't have any static routing tables, so as far as I understand it, the list of hosts I see in tracert output depends on my ISP router.

The ISP is able to open all "problem" web sites on their side, but I can't get any help from them as they say that since tracert goes beyond their network it's not their problem and it's my computer actually blocking some of web sites.

I'm not aware of any software on my laptop which could possibly do that as well as I don't have any routing/proxy programs installed, so it seems that it might be a virus or some malicious software.

So what do I do? Try to find a virus or can it be a system issue?

Answer:some web sites became unreachable

We started experiencing an issue with some customers unable to browse out to the internet.  Manually setting their proxy server to the proxy.server.com address works, but not when we use the http:\\proxy.pac. In the auto configuration script area
 on a working machine entering the http:\\proxy.pac in the address bar prompts for you to download/open the pac.  On the non working machine it ALSO cant reach the destination.  If *I* log on to the machine it works as intended.  We are
using preferences to push these settings and over 22,000 machines are working correctly.  But recently a number of people have started to experience this issue, and we are perplexed.  thoughts?

Answer:Can ping from router but unable to ping from client machines

I am able to reach out to the internet but unable to ping Click to expand...

ping is not required to have connectivity - - it is only a test & traceroute tool.

From the client, get a command prompt (or in Linux a Terminal) use nslookup google.com
If it returns the IP address of google, then you can ignore the ping problem

My friend took his computer to Best Buy who ran the restore on it with his main files on a second drive. The drive is now ganked, but I'm working to recover the files if possible.

In Disk Management (XP Pro), I can see that there's a 37GB volume with 20Gb free (looks like his missing files). There's a second volume on the disk that's only 47 MB and it's Active (so I can access it, but there's nothing to speak of there).

The point is that if I click on the 37Gb volume, I can't seem to do anything with it. The only menu option available when I right click it is "Help". If I click the disk itself, I have the option to convert to a dynamic disk, but I don't want to do that without knowing what will happen to the data on there.

When I dig through the properties, I can see data on the 47MB disk, but not the 37 GB. Does anyone know what to do with this!!!?

Answer:Unreachable Volume on Disk, What to do?

Oh, and the 37 GB says this:

37.22 GB NTFS
Healthy (EISA Configuration)

Good evening.

Unreachable dll's !! Cant remove them!

What dlls and why do you want to remove them?

Action Security Center keeps telling me I have no antivirus or firewall active when I do....i hope i do.... :-(

DDS sees McAfee, so so far so good, but it reports it as Disabled so you might like to check if it is in fact active.

Hi,

I am using an old laptop as a server for Plex and Subsonic, I login to it via RDP. Often the plex server becomes unreachable. Also at times I can't login via RDP for a few minutes with an error that the host is unreachable, this issue sorts itself after a few minutes and I can then log in again.

I'm wondering could this be due to hard disk spin down as all other power setting are set to stay awake.

This is on a Windows 7 setup, thanks.

Answer:Laptop Server Becomes Unreachable

Apparently this is not due to hard disk spin down as I have set it to never spin down and still experiencing problems.

Any one with any ideas on why I may be having these issues please let me know your thoughts.

Hi all, new guy here with weird problem. I can not access www.crutchfield.com website. Everytime I try I get timeout (this applies to all machines on my network). However when I bypass the router and hook up directly to the modem I can get the website. Here's what I did so far:

My Internet connection is working fine (called Comcast and it was reset from their side).
I called Crutchfield and they confirmed their website is up (Comcast guy accessed it too).
I reset my modem and router.
I reset the router to factory defaults.
I reinstalled the router firmware.
I doublechecked that access control is disabled on the router, and no entries in web filter

I am stumped, can somebody help? Thanks.

I am running:
Toshiba - DOCSIS 2.0 Cable Modem - PCX2600
D-Link DGL-4300 router
Windows 7 RC x64
All connections Cat6 cable

Did yours work at one time? You say you've changed nothing? Maybe your isp has started blocking the port that your runnin emule on. Try changing the port to something else and configuring your network accordingly.

Hi, I'm having a bit of trouble since last week. I have sweethosting.com hosting my web site and my laptop can't seem to connect to the web site anymore. Everytime I try, I get an error msg: Gateway time out--- Server Unreachable.. sometimes when I repair the wireless connection I can get access, but sometimes I can't.

I've tried scanning with with Nortons antivirus and scanned with spybot and also with Adware. I'm lost in the dark right now. My Desk top computer can access the web site though.

Can someone help me please.

Answer:Error msg: server unreachable

This is what I got when I just tried that site;

"This page is used to test the proper operation of the Apache HTTP server after it has been installed. If you can read this page, it means that the Apache HTTP server installed at this site is working properly.
If you are a member of the general public:

The fact that you are seeing this page indicates that the website you just visited is either experiencing problems, or is undergoing routine maintenance."

Checking the URL with a server identification tool produced the information that it is online, but returns a "HTTP 1.0 403 Forbidden", which seems to confirm the information above.

The IP address for that domain is 69.42.129.18. Sometimes, using the IP address instead of the URL works better, although I don't expect it will make much difference in this particular case.

Hi......

I have no clue what the error message 'unreachable statement' is supposed to mean, but i keep getting it and cannot get rid of it without deleting these 2 statements. The error is given for the red line...
Code:

protected void findtarg(int x)
{
int i;
int j;
tpx = 0;
tpy = 0;
for(i=1;1<256;i++)

for(j=1;j<256;j++)
{
if(getNk(idxy[i][j]) == targ)
{
tpx = i;
tpy = j;
break;
}
}
}

[B][COLOR="Red"]if(x == 0 && tpx > 0)[/COLOR][/B]
{
tpv = true;
mM = true;

sendtp();
mM = false;
setWaitMode(null);
gst = 3;
SendCom('k');
}else
if(x > 0 && tpx > 0)

}
}
Any ideas?

I've been trying to connect a newly aquired machine to my network with no luck what-so-ever. Initially I installed Windows XP professional with SP2 onto the machine only to be hit with the infamous "Limited or no connectivity" issue. Upon researching this error, I came across various solutions including the Microsoft SP2 Patch KB884020 with no luck. I still cannot get this machine to connect to the network. Everything I've tried is listed below.

Replaced the Hub twice
Tried with no Service packs, and with 1 seperately, and service packs 1 and 2
I've tried the winsock XP fix after reading it may be a corrupt IP table
I've run a registry fix i found on some forums (i have a feeling thats the same as the winsock XP fix though)
I've flushed out my DNS
I've tried 3 different network adapters, an nForce Motherboard mounted one. a Realtek one, and a Sitecom one
Manually assigned an IP address in the range which DHCP would assign

All of the above has failed. It is only this machine which fails. I've got numerous other machines on my network which are all recieving dynamic IPs from DHCP perfectly every time yet this PC hasn't recieved an IP once.

I read that if you can ping the computer's local IP, and ping its loopback address 127.0.0.1 successfully, it's not a corrupt IP table, but bad network drivers. However having tried 3 different network adapters with CD drivers from purchase, and drivers obtained on the inter... Read more

Answer:Unreachable network/No assigning of IPs

Replace the network cable?

Instead of trying everything possible you should approach this step by step. Use a static IP when testing at all times.

Do you get an ethernet link? (LEDs)
Do ARP requests succeed?
Pings?
Big pings?
What about duplex and speed settings?

I can get to any website I try except Windows update.

I have moved the HDD to another PC and run MS Security Essentials, BitDefender & F-Secure scans. Then back to its own case where I ran Anti-Malware & SuperAntiSpyware. HijackThis also ran but still no Windows Update.

I have tried running IE in Safe mode - same problem. I did a repair install of XP - problem persists. I ran a batch file to delete the update database and reregister DLLs. Reinstalled IE 8. Still unable to reach Windows update in IE or FireFox. WinsockXPfix didn't help and an nslookup of windowsupdate.microsoft.com reveals

DNS request timed out.
timeout was 2 seconds.
*** Can't find server name for address 192.168.0.1: Timed out
*** Default servers are not available

All other websites on this PC come up fine, as does Windowsupdate on another PC on the same LAN. My Hosts. file contains just
127.0.0.1 localhost

Help.
