Question: Installing profile based application in other users folder

Hi All,

Im trying to install AT&T application which is a profile based application. Means it installs in the user profile directly instead of other location.

My Problem is user dont have the admin access, either i need to use my ID or administrator ID. Which installs application into Appdata\Local folder which wont be accessible by other users.
How to i enable the application for other users as well without providing admin access

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Installing profile based application in other users folder

What ATT app is this? If it's for accessing the internet then that doesn't require any installed program, just plug in the wire or access wireless signal via icon in SYstem Tray. Any installed program beyond this for this purpose is bloatware.

But once we know what the program is for exactly we can help you better.

Can anyone help me regain Security Permissions to C:\Users\All Users\Application Data Folder which I lost while looking at the access rights. I mistakenly closed the box while playing with the access rights and lost any access to the file.
I pulled the access rights to the file using icacls they are below.

application data
D:PAI(D;OICI;FA;;;WD)(A;;0x1200a9;;;WD)(A;OICI;FA;;;SY)(A;OICI;FA;;;BA)S:AI

I am thinking I can change the information in the file and restore it. Not sure exactly what to change?

I was also thinking I could pull the info from another computer running with the same operating system and reapply them to this file? Would this work?

I looked at Previous Versions of the upper level folder. Can I restore a previous version of this whole folder? Will it restore the Application Data folder with the prior permissions?

Answer:Lost Access Permissions to C:\Users\All Users\Application Data Folder

Are you asking about the Application Data or Appdata folder?

If Application Data, this is not a real folder but a junction used to allow interface with legacy programs. No access is necessary since it is pointing to the Appdata folder.

I am networking, among others, 2 Win7 machines and 1 Win8 machine. One of the Win7's used the same user name and password as the Win8 machine. I wanted to fix it so that the two usernames and passwords were different--specifically I wanted to alter the Win7 user name and password. I though first about just changing the username on the Win7 machine, but recalled that doing so would not change the related user profile folder name in C:\Users. I could not recall how to do so. I found this tutorial on our Windows 7 forum. From a thread on the our Win 8 forum, I learned that the procedures of the tutorial also apply to Win8 (maybe there is a related Win8 tutorial that I didn't find).

After reading through the tutorial, I was uncertain about a few things and also could not figure out why proceeding as described would be advantageous in regard to what seemed like an easier way to get at least mostly the same result. So, instead of using the tutorial,

1. I added a new (administrative user--the level I wanted) having the user name and password I wanted.
2. Copied the files and desktop items (shortcuts and a few folders) I would need from the old account/desktop to the new account/desktop.
3. Did minor desktop customization on the new desktop (I usually don't do much theme-wise.
4. Deleted the old account, and all was good once I joined my HomeGroup and shared a few not HomeGroup items. The stage now is set to do an a Win7, Win8, Lion, and Mt. Lion networking experiment that I am i... Read more

Answer:Change User Profile Folder Name in C:\Users

Hello znod,

I agree that it is best and safer to create a new account instead of trying to rename the old user profile folder.

The tutorial is just how to do it if one really wants to, but I do have the note at the top of the tutorial that would be best to create a new account instead.

Answer:How to fix the problem after rename users profile folder

Hello Suzik0n, and welcome to Seven Forums.

How did you rename the user profile folder?

If you are able to, log on to another administrator account (step 4 at link below), and see if you may be able to pick up at step 9 to change the registry settings to match the renamed folder since you already renamed the folder.

Hey guys,

This is my first time posting, but it's a doozy. I built a computer for the first time about a year ago, and was able to get everything up and running just fine. My main hard drive is an SSD, and I used robocopy / symlink to copy my users folder to a different drive with more space, and to create a junction to it from the SSD.

This setup has been fantastic 99.9% of the time - however - Shortly after getting everything working I ran into this problem while installing software and was able to fix it after a week long freak out and lots of obsessive research....but it's happened again (installing the same software) and for the life of me I cannot remember or find any information that I used previously.

Problem:
I started to install all of my 3D software (I am a 3D Designer and use Maya / 3DS Max, etc.) While installing VRay for Maya, I start getting errors that windows can't connect to my Users folder. I minimize my windows and nothing on my desktop will open. Upon reboot, I am informed that my User Profile Service won't let me login.

Troubleshooting so far:

I used safe mode to login, and of course everything on my desktop was gone. I used system recovery to the most recent date, which allowed me to login, however my desktop / users folder is still missing. I ran a registry fixer and found all kinds of errors, "fixed" them, then I couldn't login again. Recovered again, booted from my windows 7 CD and attempted to move my actual ... Read more

You can run most registry fixes on a computer with a clean install of windows and they will find errors.
The problem is 99.9% of the time, they are NOT errors, they are simply errors that the program considers exist.
It is accepted by many people that registry fixes should not be installed and again many of them will sooner or later cause more problems than EVER they solve.

I do appreciate that this is probably NOT what you wanted to read in response, but it would be remiss of me if I did not warn you of the situation.

3. NOW to the actual problem
As far as I know, there is no sure fire way of moving a user profile in its entirety to a different drive, than that which it was originally installed on.
YOU can of course establish a new account and move the personal data from the corrupted user account OR you can move simply the personal data to another location

HOWEVER please see below

Hello,

Please note that I have a domain user with a laptop, then someone else from the same domain logged on and it created a profile. I tried to delete it to free up disk space. I logged off all users and disconnected the laptop from the network. Then I logged on
with a local admin account, went to start, right click on computer -> properties, advanced system settings, settings for user profile and selected the profile and clicked the delete button.

This window told me that user was using ~60GB however after I clicked delete, I noticed my C drive space did not change. Please help. I also checked in control panels, user accounts and that profile name is no longer there. I also checked the HKEY_Users and
HKEY_Local_machine->software->microsoft->windows NT->current version->profile list and that user is not there.

I am very low on disk space ~10GB left and wanted to delete that profile to free up space as that person has their own computer.

I am looking for a way to copy files to a local domain users Application Data folder either through a self extracting file, batch file or even logon script. I need to install Stationery for MS Outlook to about 100+ users desktops and instead of pullign the stationery from "c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\stationery" they pull it from a file in thier documents and settigns folder...

I can craete a self extractign exe but that would only be useful if it had to go to the same directory on each and every machine

Answer:How to copy files to local users \documents and setting\user\application data folder?

Since re-installing Windows 7, I can't open the Users folder on my other data drive.

The green bar goes almost to the end of the X, then freezes. I've tried leaving it for a couple hours and it's still in the same spot.

I've tried disabling the thumbnails and indexing is disabled, still the same.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for your time.

Answer:Can't access users folder since re-installing windows.

Hello micdoodle8. Welcome to the forum.

The USERS folder is usually created by the OS during installation on the same drive (usually C: ) as the OS. I will bet you have a Users folder on C: right now. Which would mean you now have 2? That could confuse the OS.

Did you redirect the Users folder to D: on your previous OS installation?

Or did you manually create this folder and just name it Users?

Always helpful if we can see what is going on. Can you post screenshots of an expanded Windows Explorer and Disk Management?

Do you have files you need to retrieve from that folder?

Hi,

I have a user that has now left our company and would therefore like to delete their roaming profile from the profiles folder on our server.

I have deleted their account from Active Directory and have then tried to delete their profile from the roaming profiles folder. But when I do this I get the access denied message, the reason being that the file may be open or I do not have sufficient rights. I have also taken ownership of the folder so I have all the correct permissions.

Anyone have any ideas ?

Thanks,

Hello,

Try to reset the permissions of the folder, and then make sure you have ownership of the sub folders to.

What OS are you using?

Hi everyone, I am a system admin at a small non profit organziation.  We use a lot of lenovo laptops from r40's to sl510's.Currently I have been experiancing an issue with the R60's on my network.  We run a windows server 2003 ethernet network, nothing fancy.  All the laptops have 1 gig of memory. Lately I am finding that I am getting the error when trying to log into the domain on the laptops. "Windows cannot load the users profile but has logged you on with the default profile, cause: not enough resources" The accounts I am using do not having roaming profiles so its not related to that. When this happens I cant sign into the domain, or even if I try to log in locally on the machine I get "net service not running" error.  I am able to log in in safe mode localy and on the network with no issue.  So I dont believe its a network related problem. The only way I am able to fix this problem is by editing the registry and increaseing the PoolUsageMaximum and PagedPoolSize values. Does anyone know why this keeps happning to this model of laptop?  I thought 1 gig to run xp should be ok, the older laptops like the R51 and R40 dont seem to have this issue, neither do the newer SL500 and Sl510, so far it seems to be only hapening to the R60's and it has happend to atleast 5 of them so far.

I am trying to rename a user profile under C:\Users (I am logged into the Administrator profile on my computer), and am getting an error that the folder or file is in use, so I cannot rename it.

I have tried multiple options to fix it after researching online:
I tried ending the "explorer.exe" process, and then restarting it via "new task" in task manager. It was suggested that this would "unlock" the file or folder for a short period of time. It did not work for me.
I tried clearing both my recycle bin and my "Thumbnails" folders from Disk Cleanup. That also did not work for me.
I was going to try to disable thumbnail caching temporarily by following instructions online, but the computer was unable to locate "gpedit.msc".
Could anyone advise? This is a very important step of a process I'm being worked with on in a separate thread and I cannot proceed until I have renamed this file, and am afraid to restart the computer since I've just done a "takeown" command on this Administrator profile.

I'm not sure why but sometimes when i port a profile over(make new profile, move all files/folder to temp folder, move old profile folder/files in then move the new profile over it) edge and the start menu break. Take ownership seems to miss alot of things and using the security feature in properties seem to make things worse. Going to safe mode and back fixed the start menu but alot of other persimmons are broken. I assume tweaking.com repair tool can fix it but that's alot of down time to have it have its way with the system. Is there anything else that will ensure persimmons for installer, ect and the admin user profile to work like it was all setup out of the box and everything reinstalled fresh?

Answer:Restore profile permissions to user profile folder

Taking ownership is not quite enough, you have to also grant permissions, I do it like this:

Code:
takeown /f "%SystemDrive%\Users\defaultuser0" /a /r /d y
icacls "%SystemDrive%\Users\defaultuser0" /inheritance:r /grant:r Administrators:(OI)(CI)F /t /c

You can reset permission using Windows commands or you can try this utility with GUI.

Hi all,

Each time you connect (with a Win 7 pc) to a new network, your pc will ask you which profile to activate: Domain, Home or Public.
I do understand this profiles.
But, which are the characteristics/parameters Windows is using? Is it based only on the IP address, or MAC, or gateway, or....
I was just imaging: I connect to a router at home with a standard private IP address. And I move to my neighbor, with the same brand of router and the same standard IP address. What will happen? Security???
Does anybody know what the parameters are?
Kind regards!

Hi all,

I finally found some more information. Reading this website Longhorn Network Location Awareness Service it seams that the NLA is responsible. Based on a lot of features (delivered by NLA),the systems decides whether or not it's connected to the same connection or not.
So for my example (in my question) it seems to be based on the Default Gateways MAC address...

Good day folks.

I am looking for a way to load a specific host file, based upon which hardware profile is being use.

Scenario: I use a work-provided laptop. When using the laptop at work (docked), I am able to access my own network resources just fine via WAN DNS servers - i.e. I am able to get to my http server from outside my residential LAN. However, when I log on to the network from home, I have to go and edit my hosts file to facilitate forcing specific URLs to resolve to a LAN IP vs. a WAN IP (as the router does not facilitate loopback resolution (if that makes sense)).

I would like to have a different host file load based upon the hardware profile - i.e. if I am docked in a port replicator, have the specific URLs resolve to the WAN IP (remove forcing specific URLs to a 192.168.x.x IP) and if I am not docked and I boot up, I would like specific URL to be forced to resolve to the 192.168.x.x LAN IPs.

I understand that I will still have to manually edit the hosts file if I am traveling (not-docked & outside of my LAN) and trying to touch my servers, but that is the exception vs. the norm.

Please review and advise if there is a means that I can force a different hosts file to load based upon hardware profiles, or if there is a means to address it in a different manner.

Thanks in advance!

Can somebody explain to me what a LAN Based Application is? I've tried to google it but cannot find nothing. I would imagine its an application that only operates within a LAN, so i.e an office, so it wont be able to communicate to another office?

Thanks

Answer:LAN Based Application

It is an application that runs only on a LAN (Local Area Network) without internet access.

The LAN could be small, 3 - 4 clients; or large with over 500 clients in multiple buildings.
I have worked in both situations and used propriatary applications that ran on the LAN, but were not designed to be accessed from the internet.

Video Conferencing, Remote Access Control, Gaming Servers, all started as LAN applications.

This is the best info I could find and it isn't much.

I have told a lady about the free web based virus scans available from McAfee and Symantec but when she tried them she quickly discovered that they require IE and she is a Netscape user. She has Win98se with IE 5 and is a dial user. The download to update her version of IE would be oppressive, if not impossible.

Are there web virus scan sites that work with Navigator or is there a way to download the updates for IE on a high speed system and burn onto a CD that could be used on here system?

I posted in this forum as I feel this is security related. Mods move if need be.

I'm looking for a web based (preferably PHP) change log program. It should do the following:

1. Be simple!
2. Allow people to enter descriptions of basic system changes
3. Changes should have categories by systems and can be filtered as such.
4. Time stamp the actions and have a "master display" where all changes can be viewed
5. LDAP authentication would be nice.

Does such a thing exist? My goggling has failed due to "change log" being such a popular term.

I have a neat idea that I would like to try out. Caution this is going to get nerdy not just geeky. I play D&D and my group uses a program that has our characters on it. It's a very old program made for Win 95 but I have made it work in everything from Linux to Vista.

I want to find a way to put the program online so my group can all edit their characters instead of doing it last minute before we play. I have a web server and hosting so thats no issue. My first thought is to use a VPN or terminal services but is there a way to just host the application by it's self? What I would like is something as non technical as having a desktop icon they can just click and it opens the program as if it's local.

Answer:make an application web based

Sure, just rewrite it in some language your web server can run and have it save all its data in an appropriate database accessible to the web server.

If you're talking about just putting the .exe on your website, it doesn't really work that way. By default, Windows won't run programs from the internet, and the web server won't allow you to write data to it. Depending on how the app works, you may be able to give each person a copy and configure it to save its data remotely in a central location. It might be possible to do something like Sysinternals Live, but I doubt you'd be able to do with just regular hosted webspace. That also doesn't take into account the saving/sharing of data, just the remote access to the .exe.

A proxy setting will be something that your internet browser deals with or internet applications. Your network settings don't really have anything to do with going through a proxy server. Unless I am just misunderstanding what your asking about.

I have a basic userform setup already that has contact info, etc. On one of the inputs, I am asking for a number of locations. Depending on this answer, likely 1-10, I want the user to then be taken to a second userform based on the number of locations input into form 1. If for instance, the user says 6 in this field, after hitting submit, I want the user to be taken to a form to fill out information for Location 1, then a form for Location 2, and so on until they are finished filling out the number of locations they specified.

I need all of that information posted into my worksheet in the specific sections with the same name (Location 1, 2, etc.)

How would I accomplish this task? I'm a noob to Excel, so go easy on me. I just figured out how to build a userform and have it post to the correct areas in my worksheet this morning.

Answer:Create Additional userforms based on users input

On the other hand, if it's simpler, I could have the number of Location fields populate in the first userform based on the number chosen, so that it would all be one simple form, the length of which would change based on the input of # of locations. Either way, I could use some assistance.

Im looking to get info about multipoint server. If I understand it correctly it's one system that offers multiple users their own desktop system. Im looking to find out if this "could possibly" replace 3 VNC systems Im running. Right now Im running 3 different VNC servers at 3 different locations. Id like to be able to still run 3 different VNC servers but from one central location, possibly using MPS. In order to do this, I need to find out if MPS can do 2 very specifics things.

1. Can MPS even run a separate VNC server on different desktops at the same time that can be accessed through the internet?

2. Can it support multiple monitors? Each server Im running now has between 4-8 monitors. I would like to run MPS on one system that supports 8 monitors. Giving each of the 3 desktop systems I need to run, the ability to have use of the 8 monitors. Technically running 1 actual lcd monitor and 7 VGA dummy monitors.

I took a screenshot of the server Im running to give a better idea of how we are setup. The blue line shows the break for each monitor.

Greeting,

I'm trying to run an application, named Da51, STK, and POS, which are written in MS-DOS based since 20 years ago.

Now here's the thing, I tried to right-click on the .exe file.

I execute command.com, I went to that folder, and manually type in the command myself.
- 1st attempt, nothing happen

A user has resized a window within a hosted web application to the point where it is exactly OK/too small, meaning it flickers back and forth between having scroll bars and not. While it is in this state, it essentially freezes out any other [COLOR=green !important][COLOR=green !important]commands[/COLOR][/COLOR] in the window or ability to resize it. Are there any ways to interupt this, delete application window size preferences or other ideas? I know this is data that is stored locally as I can execute the same functions on another PC sucessfully. This is viewing of a web hosted PC based medical application by a standard PC running Windows 7, IE9. Is there a way to delete user preferences for the application so it will default to orginal window sizing?

Thanks!

Answer:Re-Sizing of Web Based Application Windows

As a workaround, you could try a free program I use myself to automatically resize your different applications. I know how annoying this can be, in my case, especially for Internet Explorer.

I have a web based application and want it to port it on Windows Vista . What are the procedures I must follow to check for its compliance on safe deployment on Vista?

Answer:Web Based Application Compliance Testing

Let's see. I have no clue, but if I think about it, it must be:
Does your web server software work properly in Vista?
Which flavor of Vista do you plan on using?
Do you have the hardware to support it?
Have you checked into any of the documentation?
If you have checked into the documentation, promptly ignore it, set up your own test box, and see how things shake out. If what you find out on your own correlates with the documentation, then you might start to have some confidence.

That's where I would start if it were me. Essentially, a web service comes down to the web-server software, some sort of a middle tier, and I would imagine some sort of database. Are they compatible with Vista?

For the pharmacy I have made an application to support a drug preparation. This application is used in public pharmacies as well as in hospitals and industry.
This is a web-based application. So the installation has been done on the server with a configuration within IIS.
The clients start the application in InternetExplorer.
Why InternetExplorer? Because the client's preparation protocols, raw materials need to be weighed and labels must be printed. Hereby I use self-programmed ActiveX controls. And other browsers do not support ActiveX controls.
The web-based application is generally found to be good.
As Edge is increasingly "pushing", InternetExplorer seems to be the cornerstone, as well as the application described above.
My questions are now:
- How long are web-based applications still supported?
- Will Edge support ActiveX controls in the future?
- Is there an alternative?
I would appreciate if there were sound answers to the above questions.
Sincerely,
Wim

Question: Users profile

hello,
My computer used by more than one user, every user has his own account. But any user can go to user folder and display files and data for the other users, how can i keep my data save so no other user can log into my profile and ( copy- delete- read ) my data.

Regards

Answer:Users profile

They shouldn't be able to if they are Standard user accounts. If everyone are admins, then there is no stopping them to view your files. However, you can still remove Administrators group from security tab of your user account folder properties. It should at least stop double click entering the folder.

At my company we want to give certain people (users in our Windows 2003 Active Directory) limited access to the Internet. That is, block all ports except 80 (web) and only provide access to a list of aproved sites, while other users should have irrestricted access.

Also, since the company has grown very dependant on Internet, we need to have 2 ISP in case one fails, which has been happening a lot recently.

We have 2 servers right now, one which is a Core 2 Duo with 2 GB of RAM that we use as a file server & application server for an accounting software.

The other server (Pentium 4, 3 Ghz with 512 of ram) we use as a mail server with mail daemon. It works perfectly well in that function.

What I was thinking about doing is to move the Mdaemon server to the Core 2 duo with 2 GB of ram, since it should be more than enough to handle all the services and use the "slow" Pentium 4 (upgrading it to 1 GB of RAM) as Router, DHCP server, firewall and load balancing server with ISA server 2006 under Windows 2003.

Does ISA server have the capabilitie to establish rules of Internet access based on users? Can a machine like this handle the load balancing in both software and hardware?
We don't have too many traffic and currently we have a Linksys BEFSR41 ver. 3 which works OK with just one ISP.

Do you guys think this will work out? I can't buy a great cisco router since they are too expensive for our company and I don't trust Linksys/d-link rou... Read more

Answer:Need to provide Internet blocking based on AD users and Load balancing. What to use?

First: I think you mean ISA Server 2004 or 2006. There is no 2005. Second: Yes, ISA Server 2004/2006 are both fully AD integrated. You can rules based on groups of users in AD. You may need to install the firewall client on the PCs though.

Also, ISA 2004 only supports one gateway/default route. I don't know exactly why, but I have read this several places. I don't know if this changed with ISA 2006. If you are trying to load balance your outbound connections, you might want to place something like a pfSense box in front of ISA to do your load balancing.

Good morning,

I need a little help with a project I am working on. What I have is an incident alert system. I have attached an example workbook (Excel 2003) for easier understanding.

On sheet 1, column B4, I have a Data Validation List, whereby a user can select which area is being problematic. Column C is a free-text cell where they can type in a short message explaining what the problem is. Column D is a button that they click that will fire off an email to a group of managers.

Sheet 2 is a list of all the areas and the manager responsible for that area.

What I need is a one-button macro that will:

1) In Sheet 2 column A, automatically apply a filter, based on whatever is currently the value of Sheet 1, B4.(whatever the user selects from the dropdown list). This will possibly be a filter based on ActiveCell value, I think?

2) Send off an email to each manager of the area that has been filtered in step 1.

2.1) The contents of Sheet 1, B4 and C4 should be the body of the email.

Example:

To: John Smith([email protected]); Samuel Jackson([email protected])
Subject: SMS (this subject is always fixed as, yes, it's actually sending a text message via email to the manager's cell phone)
Message:
Incident: (value of Sheet 1, B4)Lobby - (value of Sheet 1, C4)Strange man loitering in the lobby.

Is this possible?

I hope I've explained clearly enough what I need. I'm not great at that. :s

Thank you very kindly in advance for your assistance. I... Read more

Answer:'This application has failed to start because WININET.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem

Hello frankp747,From what I read, the "Wininet.dll" error can be caused by software, hardware, or malware. Why were you performing a system restore? Have you tried to access Safe Mode?As the computer is booting, tap the "F8 key" continuously until you get the "Advanced Boot Options" Menu.Use your arrow keys to move to "Last Known Good Configuration" then press the <Enter> key. Reboot the computer. If that doesn't work, try "Safe Mode."If Safe Mode loads then try to do a System Restore using a point before your troubles began. Click "Start," "All Programs," "Accessories," "System Tools," "System Restore."

Hi, I want to assign a custom icon to every file type no matter what the associated app is. I can change individual default icons, but they get overwritten by the application icon. Is it possible to do this :

And if so, how ? (I want to keep the file associations: .css and .txt are still getting open by Sublime, .ini by WordPad and so on ...)

Hi,

Could anyone tell me which of the many languages I should/could use to develop a browser based application meant to support database functions (store/retreival to local disk of user inputs) and that could read and send data off the host PC serial port. I'm not looking for client/server stuff, just a plain browser based application running on a local machine for accessing its local serial port and sending/storing data to or from it. I could do it using WinAPI or MFC but I would prefer to have the familiar web based application instead.

I'm not familiar with ASP.NET, PHP, XML, SQL etc... so I wonder if any of them could dot the job ??

Thanks in advance.

Theoretically speaking, if different types of malware files where to penetrate past Kapsersky's protection and get placed into "Low Restricted", how much damage is possible under default settings?

Answer:Kaspersky Policy Based Application Control

Theoretically speaking, damage same as trusted group. Low restricted is basically trusted group in default settings (Automatic mode). Application control is for interactive mode, in which the prompts gets issued, then Low restricted is useful as much as the user knows.

Hi All,
I've recently setup a clean install of Win10 onto a new system.
Prior to this I backed up my 'Users' folder from the old setup (also Win10) onto my d:\ drive, on a second HDD.
Now that the system is up and running, I've noticed that the backup 'Users' folder is being 'seen' by Win10 as a system folder, resulting in my inability to rename it etc.
Searching for a newly created document that is located in 'My documents' on c:\drive results in it being called up as existing in:
c:\users\neil\documents (where it actually lives)
d:\users\neil\my documents
d:\documents and settings\neil\documents

How best can I disassociate the d:\drive backup 'Users' folder from my system folders ?
Thanks for the assistance.

Hi. Sorry my language i am from Portugal, and is the first time i post in this f?rum!

I have a question!

I working with several computers in a domain! After restarting before installing the operating system again, I was wondering how do I set the same profile for all profiles!
In windows XP configured a profile with a user, and then put it in the default user folder!
In Windows 7 I have no idea!!!

Any ideia?

Answer:How to have same profile for all users in the domain!

Hi WildCatPT, welcome to the Seven Forums.

Windows 7 default user profile must be configured and customized in so called Audit Mode when no user profiles exist. In your case, deploying the same image to several computers, the procedure is as follows:Start Windows 7 installation on your reference computer
After installation boots to OOBE / Welcome mode after last reboot, enter Audit Mode
Customize the default user profile
Generalize the Windows image with Sysprep
Capture the image
Deploy the image (install to other computers using the captured image)

See this tutorial for instructions in customizing Windows default user profile in Audit Mode: User Profile - Customize During Installation.

Notice that as this tutorial is made to show how to customize default profile in just one computer as opposite to your need to do it for several computers, you need to change the /reboot switch in Sysprep command told in Step 3 to /shutdown switch in order to be able to capture the image before any user accounts have been created.

In your case, the Sysprep command told in Step 3 must look like this (changed part highlighted):

Code:
%windir%\system32\sysprep\sysprep.exe /generalize /oobe /shutdown /unattend:E:\DefaultProfile.xml

There is a computer at work that is giving me this error (roughly):

Is this a spyware or virus issue? The user does have a roaming profile and has been experiencing a slower connection for the last two weeks.

thanks

Any info would be helpful. Also if this addressed somewhere else I apologize. I searched the forum but did not find this issue. I found similar issues.

I am having problems booting my Windows XP system. Everytime I turn my machine on and try to log on i get this message:

"Windows cannot load the user's profile but has logged you on with the default profile for the system.

DETAIL - A required privilege is not held by the client."

After this message loads on the welcome screen, it lasts for about 20 seconds, and then the system restarts. It just keeps going in a continuous loop.

I searched the posts and a user earlier on posted about this and I didn't see any replies. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello:

I have a group of computers joined to an AD domain that are running windows 7 Enterprice and the DCs are windows 2008 R2. My objective is to get all of these computers (about 50 of them) so that when any AD user logs in they all use the same profile folder under C:\Users. This means that they would all have the same desktop, my documents, libraries and registry (HKLU). I have control over some (about 10%) of the users that will be accessing these 50 computers but most reside out of the OU that I manage so I figured I would have to use some sort of GPO loopback for this to happen. I have been looking around for a way to do this but unfortunately I have not come accross anything that will let me do this.

However, recently I was taking a class a my local college and I notice that on the school's computer (also windows 7) when a user logs in (with their own individual AD credentials) they all get the same desktop. Upon closer inspection, any user that logged into a classroom computer got redirected to use the C:\users\classroomuser profile. This means that if I leave a file on the desktop and log out then the next user that logs in to that computer also sees that file in their desktop. I checked the permissions for 'C:\users\classroomuser' and it looks like 'everyone', 'administrators' and 'classroomuser' all have full access to that folder and its decendants. I looked some more and it seems that domain users is part of their local administrators group as well. And a... Read more

Hi folks, i have question

I did a clean Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit install and something i have noticed is that there is a administrator profile folder in the c:\users

What I know is that the administrator account is disabled by default so the administrator folder should not be there?

So, is it normal that the administrator folder is in de c:\users?

Answer:administrator profile in c:\users

If you did a clean install then yes it must be normal.

It's probably a mostly empty profile. It isn't going to hurt anything.

If you set up a users profile that becomes part of the systems O/S and you want to change it within the system folder...how do you do it? What folder within the system provides for the change to be made?

Answer:Windows XP Users Profile

If I understand the question correctly, its in the Documents And Settings Folder, ie:

C:\Documents and Settings\All Users
C:\Documents and Settings\Default User

And custom by name (User Name would be name used)

C:\Documents and Settings\User Name

Please help....

I have managed to delete my xp-home default users profile.

So I am having trouble creating a new user account.

Any suggestions please?

Adrian

Answer:Default XP users Profile

Maybe you could restore it. Did your check the Recycle Bin? If it is gone just copy another user folder and name it Default User. Then change the Attributes to Read-only and Hidden, which is done by right clicking the folder, selecting Properties, and checking the boxes.

Hi, Ive been trying to get the following to work:-

1) Monitor a user session based counter on many deployed machines

2) To alert when that counter hits some defined value.

This may sound simple, and it is when you create the Alert manually on the machines when the user is logged on, but the problem is when you try and do this for multiple users who log onto that machine. The issue I found is that when you choose the WMI Counter,
and select 'ALL SESSIONS' it doesnt actually do that, but just selects all current session it can 'see' to include in the monitor. This looks to only be an issue when you create it as an Alert though, as when you create it as a Performance Counter Data Log
it will work and record all session information. In fact you can see what I mean by simply creating two examples using the Processor Counter.

1) Create a new Data Collector Set from Performance Monitor

2) Select to create manually

3) Choose 'Create data logs - Performance counter'

4) Select Processor and Instances of selected object to be 'All instances'

5) You will see it lists this as \Processor(*)\* as the performance counter

This time create a new Data Collector Set for an alert as follows:-

1) Select to create manually

2) Choose 'Performance Counter Alert' this time

3) Select Processor and Instances of selected object to be 'All instances'

4) This time you will see it lists all counters is can see at that time.

Of course the problem with this is tha... Read more

Sophos said:

It is the second Tuesday of the month here on the West coast of North America and for once I am actually in town to do our monthly Patch Tuesday analysis.

33 separate CVEs (individual security related bugs) are fixed across ten patches affecting Internet Explorer, Windows, .NET, Lync, Publisher, Word, Visio and Windows Essentials.

The answer to everyone's question is "yes". Microsoft has released a fix for the IE 8 zero day vulnerable used in the US Department of Labor website compromise.

I had the opportunity to speak with the MSRC team in Redmond this morning and without a doubt the three most important updates are MS13-037, MS13-038 and MS13-039.

MS13-037 fixes eleven vulnerabilities in Internet Explorer.

Ten of these vulnerabilities could be exploited to allow remote code execution (RCE) and one could be exploited to disclose information that shouldn't be accessible.

This fixes the now two month old vulnerability (CVE-2013-2551) in IE 10 disclosed at this year's PWN2OWN competition at CanSecWest.

All of these vulnerabilities were privately disclosed, but for all we know the criminals might also be aware of how to exploit these flaws.

MS13-038 is the most anticipated as it fixes the zero-day flaw utilized in the attack on visitors to the US Department of Labor website. We know that our adversaries have knowledge of this flaw, so it is a very high priority for IE users.

It has been reported that this flaw only affects Internet... Read more

Hello,

At work we have this new application for Materials Control that require the installation of Oracle, now the problem is that the application is not working when the users are given Limited User windows account , we have to give them all an Administrator account on order for the application to work wish ends up with peaple messing with the PCs configuration and creating problems.

I am stating that the problem is with Oracle database itself because there is another different application that requires Oracle and the result is the same.

Any ideas?
Anyone faced an issue like this one?
Any hint how to go around it?

PS: We contacted the application provider and each time they say they are looking for a solution...

HI There,

I'm looking for a simple windows service that I can schedule to run that will do the following:

1.  Search a .log file for a given phrase - "fail" for example.
2.  If this is found, send an email and alert (screen popup) to the administrators.

I may need to resort to a batch file do this, but I hope was hoping something already existed and I could have this up and running very quickly.

Please let me know if you know of anything that fits the bill.

Thanks.

Answer:Looking for an application that searches in a file and emails based on finding

This is a simple batch file if you have an e-mailer that lets you send from the command line.  I haven't tried this in ages on Windows, so I don't know which one(s) might be available.

You should take a look at the post, How to create a command-line toolkit for Windows, on these very forums, paying special attention to the "grep" command that's part of UnixUtils.  Grep allows you to do the kind of search for text content you're seeking with ease.  You can then either query the status code returned after the command or redirect the output of the command to a file, and check that its size is not 0 bytes, to determine whether it found what you're looking for.  A simple 'if' construction afterward to trigger the e-mail to be sent and you're done.

You may prefer to go with installing Cygwin rather than the UnixUtils if you want something more current and want to have a more extensive set of Unix commands available to you under Windows.

Hi,

I think the title sums it up, but I will expand a little more on it.

I have a web-based application that when I attempt to perform a function, brings up the IE11 context menu. The application's menu also appears (which is what I want), but in order to proceed with my task, I have to kill the IE menu via Task Manager.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I've attached a picture.

Unit where I work are having issues with the NTuser.dat file name in the All Users, turning blue. Applications are then corrupted and PC slows down. with that other problems occur requiring the unit to be reimaged. Quick fix has been to delete the NTUser.dat and the user's profile. This does not always correct the problem. My questions are: What causes the file name to go from black to blue? What causes the applications to be slow or not to work or work properly?

Answer:Windows cannot load the users profile...

I know it seems like a moot point, but We advise against using registry cleaners.

Since it seems that it is already too late, your best bet would be to get a new profile up and running. It would be easy to get HL2 back in your programs and start bar.

Quicktime may need to be uninstalled and reinstalled for it to start working again.

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151 <- that is a document that explains how to move all your settings and files from one profile to the other. Then just delete the old corrupt profile.

I have did a bit of searching and still havent found what the differences of thes two profiles are. If someone would please educate me on the following?

* Differences
* Benefits of each one
* When and why to use one or the other when creating roaming profiles.

Answer:All Users vs. Default User profile

Default is what is used to create a new profile on the machine. All users is for every user, new and old. The default profile is used mostly for deployemt configurations and such. All users is used for machine application installs and things of that sort, and when you mant to make something stay on everyones profile. If users of the machine don't have admin rights, then they can't change the all users settings. Where as Default user copies everything into the profile of the user that is being created, and allow users to fully control it.

hope that explains a little...

I have two Onedrive folders under my User files. One is uploaded to the cloud the other appears to do nothing. I started using 32 bit Windows 8.1 on the same machine then installed the 64 bit using the same microsoft username/email. Is it possible to determine which Onedrive folder is active and get rid of the other without losing any files both offline and online?

Tim

Answer:Two Onedrive folders under Users\Name Profile

I think x64 version of 8.1 is more trouble than it is worth. I have switched back to the x86 version and the user folder only has 1 Onedrive folder so I shall probably just use the 32 bit version from now on. Not only that my video capture and printer work on the 32 bit version!

You're going to have to provide either screen shots, or a complete path to where you were when you made the change. "profile properties/security/edit" isn't a filepath in 7.

HELP!!!

I turned my computer on after work and found that it seemed like everything had been deleted, as in I had no installed programmes anymore and my documents, pictures and videos libraries were empty. Also that I had no record of my email anymore.. So I had a look and found this new user folder (Dan.Dan-PC) which was created in my users folder.

My old user (Dan) is still there which has all my old information and library structure there but it is not being showed anymore. It is some virus which is loading these new libraries on startup!! Please help me!!!

I did a scan with AVG and got this:

Answer:Virus making new user folder in users folder!?

You might try the procedure's listed in the guide. This system seems to be pretty far gone. Interesting virus, a swing and a miss for AVG.
How to easily clean an infected computer (Malware Removal Guide)

Having an extra drive with a recent system image + system restore procedure using DVD is the best method for fixing these problems.

Of course these days you need to keep that extra drive unplugged if you really want to keep it safe.

You might want to try the security section of the forum for more help.
