Upgrade to Windows 7 home perm 64 bits from Vista 32 bits

Question: Upgrade to Windows 7 home perm 64 bits from Vista 32 bits

my desktop is Dell XPS 730. it currently using Vista 32 bits. Everything runs very slow and none of games are runnable due frames dropping, skipping, and freezing even after I installed new Hard Drive. I decided upgrade to Windows 7 64 bits would help with running minecraft game without issue.

I downloaded Windows 7 USB DVD download tool and Windows 7 64 bits ISO. it installed into flash drive successful but it came with bootsect error. So I looked around for it and found here 32-Bit BootSect

I downloaded "bootsect7600x86.zip". I right clicked and clicked on Properties and clicked unblock then applied and clicked ok. Then opened and I only find Bootsect exe file, nothing else. so I clicked that and command prompts came up and disappeared really instant and nothing ever happened. What am I missing? I also need Window 7 64 bits for my laptop after new HDD arrive. Just needed to make USB bootable somehow.

EDIT: I did right clicked on that exe file and did not see "run as admin"

EDIT2: Forgot to add, do I need to have product key code? Im upgrading my desktop from vista 32 bit to windows 7 64 bit

Preferred Solution: Upgrade to Windows 7 home perm 64 bits from Vista 32 bits

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Upgrade to Windows 7 home perm 64 bits from Vista 32 bits

The term is bit, not bits

Use WintoBootic to put the iso on the flash drive, it works perfectly everytime.

WiNToBootic bootable usb drive windows vista/7/8 - Bootable USB | Bootable USB

Where are you downloading the iso from, I would download it again and check the size when you`re done.

Home Premium and Professional 64 Bit are both 3.09 GBs

Please advice me whether this is a wise move or should I keep vista

Answer:I have vista 64 bits and would like to upgrade to windows 8

Hard to say.

If you are happy with Vista - you might not like win8.

It is very different - not just the UI , but the whole push to online services.

You might be better trying the Preview - as a trial and see what you think.

The preview isn't identical to the released version - released version is worse imo.

I have Win8 - I don't like it.

I spend most of my time in Win7 - a little time in Vista - and have no particular desire to boot into Win8.

EDIT - i am not sure the preview is available now they are selling the thing.

There are a handful of fanbois on the site who act like it is the second coming.

I expect they will pitch in.

Hi,

Two months ago, I bougth a HP Pavilion with preinstalled Windows Vista Home Premium-64 bits.

Last week, I installed Panda antivirus. The next day, the antivirus displayed a message saying that it had found a malware in the "urlmon.dll" file and that it was deleted and that the computer had to be reseted. When Windows restarted, it displayed several error messages, one said that the Side Bar couldn't be opened because it didn't find the "urlmon.dll" file. Some other applications stoped working, like: Windows Explorer, Control Panel, Bluetooth, and others.

I called Microsoft and they told me that the only way to restore the file without having to restore the computer to the factory settings, was to obtain a Windows Vista Home Premium installation disc, but I won't pay for the whole operating system just use the first disk to restore one file. They also told me that since the operating system was preinstalled in the computer, the manufacturer has to give me technical support, that in this case is HP.

I also called HP and they gave me instructions, but they were for Windows XP. Later, they told me that I have to resotore the computer to the factory settings.

I also called my ISP technical support (Prodigy), because the antivirus that I installed, they give it for free for their subscribers. They told me that HP has to give me technical support.

I have been searching in the internet for a solution, but most of the information is for XP and is about 3 ... Read more

Hey,
as the title says, I find myself in a dilema..

It started when I decided I wanted to put a total of 4GB of RAM in my computer. The problem is that I have Windows XP x86 (32-bits) installed.
Then, a few friends of mine adviced me to get rid of this old Windows XP (32-bits), get the total of 4GB of RAM and install Windows 7 x64.

My CPU's architecture supports x64 systems, as I have 4 cores. My main problem, is that I would have to reinstall all my programs, applications and drivers (because I have the 32-bits-versions installed) and that if I stay with my 32-bits-XP system, it would only read 3 to 3.5GB of RAM aprox.

In response to this, a friend told me that Windows 7 x64 wouldn't cause compatibility issues with those 32-bit programas, applications and drivers. However, if I'd like to get the best performance, I would have to download/get the x64-compatible-versions..

To sum it up, I would really like if you experts could help me and get me out of this dilema. Is it true what my friends mentioned me? Should I change and get the new Windows 7 x64? Which would be the downsides and which the upsides?

I would also like to mention that I am a still and motion graphics designer, and that the latest softwares for that (for instance all Adobe CS4) have come out x64.This would definitely be a plus if I change to Windows 7 x64, right?

Thank you very, very much.. Really.
Best regards,
Chris.

Hello Tech Support Guy Nation,

So I have an issue with getting a laptop hooked onto the router signal. The router is a brand spankin new Linksys EA4500 and the laptop is an IBM which is running Win XP (not sure of SP version as it is a customer's comp. at a hotel I run). Anyway, the error message I am encountering is:

The network password needs to be 40 bits r 104 bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters

At first I thought is was my router password since it contained a $ symbol so I changed it to only letters and numbers but still didn't work. I have never encountered this error message on any laptops and no other rooms have been affected. Thank you as always for the the knowledge...

Answer:Solved: Error Message:"The network password needs to be 40 bits r 104 bits depending.

You are using WPA or WPA2 encryption and the laptop--because of the lack of at least service pack 2, incorrect wireless driver, or old wireless adapter--does not support WPA(2).

Hi,

I'm trying to install MySql 4.1 on a Vista Home Premium 64bits machine. During installation MySql is scattered all over the program files and the first thing i see is a problem with writing the configuration (ini) file. Parts of the installation files are found in program files, other parts in program files (x86).
With some copy/paste actions I managed to make sure that in both "program files" the installation was equal, it still doesn't work.
During installation I specifically selected the installation path, but Vista ignores this.
Has anybody any idea how to tell Vista ONLY to use program files x86 because otherwise the program won't work. Unfortunately it is not possible to upgrade to MySql 5 or higher, because than the software won't function.

Your help is very much appreciated!!

Nick

Answer:MySql 4.1 and Vista Home premium 64 bits

Hi Nick and welcome to Vista Forums

What software are you referring to? If the program in question requires MySql 4.1 then, seeing as though that is an old version of MySql, you should check the software manufacturers website for any updates that would enable you to run the program on a more recent version of MySql.

i guys, this is 1st post on these forums, which i like a lot, especially the reviews, but anyways im having a hard time to decide which OS im gonna run on my new rig.....i already have all the components......what i do usually with my pc's is encode dvd's and audio....and especially i play games a lot.
these are my spec:

CPU: q6600 g0 stepping
MOBO: EVGA 680i NF68T1
VIDEO CARDS: EVGA 8800gts 640mb ( im waiting for the other one to run SLI )
HDD: WD Raptor 150 GB SATA Hard Drive ( for booting and for all my software ) and a WD SATA 2 500 GB for storage
RAM: Patriot Extreme Performance 4GB(2 x 2GB) ddr2 800mhz

i know i have to be on a 64 bits OS ( cause im using 4gigs on ram ) but im trying to decide which one ?
i have been researching this for a lot of time, and still i cant decide.....i have been reading that vista lets the government spy on your pc, that uses a lot of ram when its on idle, compatibility issues, not stable.........and about xp 64 bits, we all know that xp is already the past and that we gotta move to new things but i like to hear from the experts on this community what do you think ? do you have any recommendations, any thoughts ?

thanks in advance for all your help

Answer:xp 64 bits or vista 64 bits ?

You say you play games a lot. I'd say go with Vista because of that. DirectX10 is going to be mainstream before long.

This is a rather unsual error message from Windows 7, that cannot even run 16-bits programs, quote:

"Too many other files are currently in use by 16-bit programs. Exit one or more 16-bit programs, or increase the value of files in your Config.sys file."

The only time that this issue shows up is when trying to run a program as administrator from within my standard user account. The "Run as..." could be initiated either manually, or by running a program that requires elevated access rights to the system, such as starting an installation as a standard user.

The error is seemed to be triggered by the UAC, or more accurately the "consent.exe" file that actually locks up the screen and nothing can be accessed. It seems that the system is waiting for input for the UAC, clicking anywhere on the screen results in the typical error sound but nothing else. The "ctrl-alt-del" does bring up a list, selecting log out pops up the quoted error message during the logoff process. Logging back in with the same UID seems normal, until the "Run as..." initiated and the system seems locked again. Rebooting the system clears up this error, but it does come back in an irregular interval. The timeframe could be from an hour, or more, on some days it does not come back at all.

While Windows 7 64-bit does not have a "config.sys" file, one has been added to "C:\" that contains:

Answer:16-bits program error message in 64-bits W7...

Well, having the "config.sys" file did not help. The system still have the same issues as posted earlier. Removing EMET 3.5 didn't help either...

Other than the "Run as...", the system works fine with any other programs. While I could grant administrator access to my user account, I'd prefer not to do it.

Would anyone have an idea what could cause this issue?

I installed Autocad 2010 in window 7(64 bits). I couldn't install because Autocad software software is 32 bits. Window 7 is 64 bits. So it couldn't not install. So I would like to know how to install 32 bits software in 64 bits window 7.

Answer:how to install 32 bits software in 64 bits window 7

32 bit software will run on 64 bit Windows 7 without any special steps being taken. Windows 7 64 bit actually maintains a 32 bit registry in order to accommodate 32 bit programmes. If you cannot install Autocad the problem is likely to be something more that the 32/64 bit difference. There is the possibility that it wouldn't even install on 32 bit Widows 7 and it is the OS itself that is the problem. You need to contact Autocad and see what they say about the problem, after all they know there own software better than anyone else.Stuart

Answer:Disable bits windows home xp

The Background Intelligence Transfer Service(BITS) entry needs to remain on "Automatic" or "Manual" in the services list.

It's one of the services that's required for Windows Updates to work properly.

It does NOT steal 20% of your internet bandwidth.

I just use the included Windows Defender.

Hope this helps,

Can someone explain these figures to me? Im talking about 8 Bits/channel in terms of imagery and pictures. I dont really get these. Is it the smaller the number, the better the picture? And, I heard that there are also different colour channels? Like Red and Blue channels, are these just the channels in which the computer can read and identify? And what about 48 bit colour? Is that in the same category as 8 Bits/channel? Or is it something totally different.I need to know more about colours.Thanks.

Answer:48 bits 16 bits 8 Bits Channel.

Essentially, bits per channel represents colour depth, the higher the bits per channel, the higher the range of distinct colours. This should explain better than I could click hereAnd when your finished reading that click here for answers to your colour channels query.

Hi,  I just get a new X201 3680-FBU that came with a 250 GB HDD 5400 rpm and Windows 7 Pro 32 bits by default. I want to upgrade the HDD with and SSD and I also want to upgrade Windows 7 Pro from 32 bits to the 64 bits version.I know that is possible but I don't know how to do it yet. I have the following Plan: 1. Install the brand new SSD on the HDD slot.2. Boot from an External Device (USB) and Install Windows 7 Pro 64 bits version(I already downloaded a Windows 7 ISO File for that matter) 3. I will be using the same Product Key provided at the bottom of  the X201 (OEM)4. Re-install all the necessary Drivers for the W7 64 bit version found on http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-70656 Basically I want to know if this is a valid option or if I should think in something else.....I will also appreciate some advise on which SSD Brand/Model I should consider. Thanks in Advance.

Good evening everyone,

I'm new in here and this is my first post...so here it goes :

This weekend I'm planning on upgrading from Windows XP 32 bits to Windows 7 64 Bits and before I do, I would like to clear up a few questions.

My motherboard is an Abit AX78 and I would like to know where to get the drivers for Windows 7 64 bits.

It seems, as I have read on a few forums, that some people have had issues with drivers when they install Windows 7.

Can someone please tell me if the drivers can be found within Windows 7 (since it seems that there is a large database of drivers in this version of windows) or can you please tell me what drivers I will need and where I mind get them.

I also tried searching in the AMD website for the AMD 770 / SB600 Chipset drivers and was not able to get them or rather could not find them (AMD website is very confusing)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanking you all in advance,

MadMax1963

Hi, I am about to buy a t400s with 4G RAM. However I still have a few questions: 1. In the Netherlands we can not select nor specify and modify a model at a website. We can only buy specific standard configurations from certain Lenovo dealers (webshops). So for example we can not select a P9600 processor i.s.o. The P9400. Also we can not select the multicard reader i.s.o. the expresscard. Is there much difference between the two processors? I am not a heavy user, mostly doing Office, Visio drawings, Internet, some little photo editing, Some music now and then, Youtube videos now and then. But I want it all fast without delays. 2. For the time being they are still offered with Vista Business 32 bits. Not 64 bits. I am very confused about the memory addressing.  2^32 = 4294967296. So if I order 4G laptop, then 32 bits OS would be able to address all? I understand that integrated video card and devices take some of this memory, but wouldn't it also do so if I had 64 bits OS? So as long as I have 4G memory (and not more) I would have no advantage of 64 bits OS? Maybe even a disadvantage because not all programs are 64 bit ready yet? 3. If I order the t400s in the coming weeks chances are big that I still get the Vista 32 bits Dutch OS. Because dealers will first sell their storage. So I would need to wait long enough until they ship with WIndows 7, or apply for the Windows 7 upgrade program. However in the Netherlands they ship with the Dutch version... Read more

Hello,I have read some articles about enabling 4GB of RAM in Windows Vista 32 bit version enabling PAE as discussed here: http://www.ocmodshop.com/ocmodshop.aspx?a=989I have tried this method and others and I have disabled DEP in Windows and in the BIOS.Is this possible to reach 4 GB of RAM in 32 bit OS with PAE in T400? I have read that in windows 2008 is possible (also linux) but why not in Vista32 or windows7 32?Cheers!JorgeMessage Edited by hardaway on 02-13-2009 03:53 PMMessage Edited by hardaway on 02-13-2009 03:54 PM

Answer:T400 4GB Vista or Windows 7 32 bits with PAE. Why not possible?

Because 32 Bit can only address a certain amount of memory and some OS may use less for the PCI devices. But only a 64 BIT OS would use the full amount of 4GB. Hope that helps and answers your question.

How does that protect the lappy differently to an Anti Virus, or more than a good AV?

I'm not very knowledgeable when it comes to these things...

It's recently been factory restored, so much so, that "Windows" has umpteen updates downloading as I type (this is a different lappy... incorrigible 8.1!!)
Anyway, for the previous 8+ years, my Vista ran beautifully with AVG Free! AV  (after the initial Norton trial ended)

I'd really appreciate some info regarding the BEST free AV programs, and, if possible, why some people prefer to pay a yearly subscription for say, Norton, or MacAfee?

Thanks y'all! (and if Brainy's around I'd LURVE your advice/opinion/experiences etc xox)

Hi & Welcome.

You can't "convert" A 64-bit OS to a 32-bit OS, same goes for your processor, etc. You're gonna have to fork out some moula and just get a new OS, A 32-bit OS at that.

Hi,

I bought a new Sony Vaio laptop (Model: VPCF12A4E) from Germany. It installed windows 7 home premium on it when I first turned it on without any CD. Something went wrong after a year or so and the only way out was to re-install the operating system. I did get it re-installed but the new one is 32 bits and they dont have the original 64 bits one.

Is there any way the original windows 7 home premium can be installed? Because if it installed initially without any CD, then it must be stored somewhere inside the pc.
Thanks.

Answer:Help: Re-installing factory supplied windows 7 home premium 64 bits in Sony Vaio

When you first turn on a new laptop , Windows is already installed effectively. All that's left to do is for the owner to enter a few details, choose an account name and a few other configurations. That's not the same as installing Windows, the actual installation is done at the factory.

However, most new laptops are supplied with a Factory Recovery Partition (instead of a recovery disc) which is usually hidden but can be seen (though you can't browse through it's content) in
Control Panel > Admin Tools > Computer Management > Disk Management.

This Recovery can usually be invoked in Windows (have a look in Start >> All Programs, and look for Vaio Recovery Center.

Alternatively, ifWindows is badly screwed up, you can usually invoke Recovery by pressing a specific key when the Sony splash-screen appears. Read the user manual for info on how to do this as I've never owned a Vaio and all makes are different in this respect.

The network password needs to be 40 bits or 104 bits depending on your network configuration. This can be entered as 5 or 13 ascii characters or 10 or 26 hexadecimal characters.

This is the error message I keep receiving whilst trying to connect a windows xp laptop onto a netgear router. Using Intel Pro/wireless 2200BG network connection.

I already have a macbook which connects fine as do my friends laptops when they come over. The laptop in question has worked before on this router with no issues, however, this is no more!!!

I think I might need to amend some setting to choose WPA but I can't figure out how to do it!!

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Please forgive me if this had been posted before. I searched here and didn't learn enough in the previous posts. So here is my inquiry.

Been using Vista Home Premium for a while with no problem. However, I now have a copy of retail Ultimate 64 bits. I read that there are many benefits besides being able to see all 4Gig of rams with 64 bits. As the process only be done by clean installation, I would like to know how, if I can at all, to back up all the stuffs that I've been using so I can "restore" after I switch to 64 bit instead of redo everything. I'll be greatly appreciate if you can explain to me step by step.

My US Robotic dial up modem only has 32 bits driver; please suggest a good one that work with 64 bits.

Please let me know anything significant I need to know before I switch?

Thank you!

Answer:Need help in 32 bits to 64 bits switching...

Hi Bruce2,

Welcome to the forum.

Since you are switching from 32 bit to 64 bit Vista, the safest route is to just backup any files you do not want to lose to a CD/DVD. You can just transfer them back when done installing the 64 bit. There is just to much of a difference to do a complete backup and restore between the two bit version with your programs and installers.

If you would like to make it even easier, have all of your programs and 64 bit drivers installation files on DVD as well.

Hi folks,
Wonder if someone can help me with an upgrade question. I'm currently running the following system:

Elite Group ECS K7S5A mobo
Athlon AMD 1800XP+ CPU
512MB DDR RAM
Seagate 120GB HD
64MB Geforce MX420 graphics card
Win 2K Pro

I've got around Ģ300 to spend, and want to improve this system. It's a bit unstable at the moment (I've heard about some issue with this particular CPU/mobo combination?) - the BIOS often resets itself. Also, I now have a 2.6Gig PC at work, and the difference in speed is getting frustrating!!

So, what I'm presuming is that the best way to spend my money would be to buy a faster CPU. But, presumably, that would also mean upgrading my mobo?

Most of the time, I use my PC for work, running multiple applications etc.
Ideally, I'd like to be able to run the odd game on the system as well, so I'm thinking maybe the graphics card could do with upgrading?

Any recommendations??

Hi, How can I get the upgrade from Lenovo?T400Regards,

Answer:Upgrade from Win 7 x86 to Win 7 64-bits

From the technical point of view, there is no upgrade path from x86 to x64.  You need to clean install the x64 OS. From a sales point of view, when you buy certain versions of Windows 7, you get both the x86 and x64 disks.  I don't believe all of the SKUs have both disks.  If Windows 7 didn't come with your machine, your best bet is to shop around for the best price.

I have an image of Windows 8.1 on a laptop I am testing with and would like to install/upgrade to 8.1 pro to test our product when running on a domain (thus the need for pro). How do I do this upgrade using the MSDN bits available? Any suggestions would be appreciated. I would really prefer to not to a clean install if I can avoid it because the bump to 8.1 pro has to be minimal from an upgrade point of view.

Answer:Upgrade Win 8.1 to 8.1 with MSDN bits

My understand is that you have a copy of Windows 8.1 Pro with a product key via MSDN (sorry if I'm wrong). Unfortunately this product key can only be used to activate your Windows 8.1 Pro after a clean installation.

The simplest way is to purchase the "Windows 8 Pro Pack" (you can buy online via Microsoft website of contact your local reseller, you'll have a feature key when you buy this feature pack). Then you can upgrade your Windows 8.1 to Windows 8.1 Pro by adding this key throught the add feature link in System Properties (I don't remember the exact name). By this way you don't have to reinstall anything (not your Windows 8.1 or your existing programs).

Please note that the key comes with this feature pack cannot be used to activate your Windows, it is just used to add new features to your Windows.

Hey all,I'm about to upgrade my ice age 30gb hard drive and finally install a 1/2 TB or a TB drive instead. *censored*, they're dirt cheap, I should have done it years ago but the move is the scary bit.I'm wondering just how to go about adding a new HD, installing windows but then, how to access the old HD and drag files accross? e.g. Outlook pst files, personal files etc... is there a way to run both drives simultaneously and just install a new copy of Windows from disc, etc, then drag all the goodies over? There will be about 2-4 Gb of stuff to move. And I ask this in case once I install the new drive, if I discover I do need one more specific file from the old drive, how do I access it? Otherwise I could copy all these files to a flash and use that.I'll be on XP SP3, with an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual 5600+, 2.0GB ram, if that is important.Cheers!

Answer:Upgrade to new HD - but how to drag juicy bits from old HD TO NEW HD?

Assuming your system has an open drive bay (and it probably does), just add the new drive and put the connections from the original drive on the new one and the second set of connectors on the old one. This will make the new drive the first drive the system sees. Then  boot to your OS CD and install it on the new drive. When you boot to the system you will be able to access both drives (though you may have to "take ownership" of the files on the old drive to access them:  http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421)

Microsoft plans to market several versions of Vista but will distribute all of the OS bits with every product shipped so users can easily unlock and step up to more full-featured versions using electronic keys, sources said. "No matter which edition you buy you get all the bits and a key to unlock it. Everyone will have all the bits," said one source familiar with Microsoft's plans. "Right now we maintain master images for each version of Windows XP and it's a lot of work. Now there's just one master image."

Having a master Windows Vista operating system means customers that buy PCs preloaded with one Vista SKU, Home Basic, for example, will be able to punch their credit card into a Microsoft Web site to unlock Vista Home Premium and more speedily deploy media center features without an on-site visit or requiring a wipe and reload of the system. The impact on the channel will be "huge" since partners will no longer have to support multiple Windows images for each customer or do reloads, sources familiar with Microsoft's plans said this week. It will also make up-selling much easier and vastly expand channel opportunities, the sources said.Click to expand...

i?m about to setup my new comp. i already bought 4 gb (1 x 4) pc2 6400 memory and i will install them on a vista ultimate 32 bits version.

i been reading about 32 bits xp and vista cannot handle 4gb of memory by defaults.

But it can be fixed with this:

Steps:

1) Access cmd: Click on the Start Pearl > type cmd in the Search Bar > and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter (this allows you to run cmd in administrative mode)

2) Type BCDEdit /set PAE forceenable

“BCDEdit is a boot configuration editor for the command line. Using the above command you’ve just enabled Physical Address Extension (PAE) which can address memory larger than 4 GB. ”

To undo, just type “BCDEdit /deletevalue PAE” , this will remove the added PAE settings.

Do you recommend doing this? or better installing 64 bits version?

I'm pretty sure that the 64 bit editions can still run 32 bit (32 or 64 bit) apps, though my PC is only 32 bit XP and my parent's comp (Athlon64 X2 3800+) is on the 32 bit Vista, not the 64.

Hi

Are you using ?factory settings? or have you installed Visagt 64bit from a Microsoft disk?

Normally Vista 64bit you should be able to use the whole 4GB. Have you also installed all updates for Vista, especially Service Pack 2?

Answer:Slow laptop Vista 32-bits

There are many causes of a slow computer. Please go through this checklist: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic44694.html

I know you've already done some of those, but there are others.

Also, do you recall when the slowness started? In what way is it slow?

Hello,

I Just bought a copy of Windows 7 64 bits and when I run the setup, I get an error saying
that I cannot install Windows 7 on this version of Vista. I have read that it is because I'm on
a 32 bit OS.

Thus my question: How can I do a clean install? Any way to format C: on Vista? Will 7 run at startup if I can format my drives?

Thanks

Answer:Can't install Win7 64 bits on Vista

Start your PC, stick the Win 7 dvd into the drive, go into the bios and set your dvd drive as the 1st boot device. Save and exit the bios. When the setup gets to the drive selection format the drive. You will lose all of the data on the drive, make a backup of any files you want to keep before you start the Win 7 setup procedure.

Hi,

My Vista PC has random freezes. I am confident that the problem is not related to any other software, hardware or anything else.
In stead this problem keeps occurring when I go to event viewer, but I can't figure out what the solution exactly is.
Here is the link I get redirected to: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc727052(WS.10).aspx
Could be this the problem for the freezes, and what is the solution then?
Thanks in advance,

-demonon.

Memory available is different from memory installed.
You have to figure out what's using the difference between 1800 and 4092.

Also check MSCONFIG...Boot tab...Advanced options button to see what the maximum memory is set at.

Hi,

In the next few days, I will be installing Vista Premium 64-bits.

Right now, I have the 32-bits version of the OS installed. The hard drive is partitioned in 3 sections: C: for the OS, D: for the applications and E: for data. That is the setup I have been using for many years and it has worked very well for me.

I do know that I'll have to format the C: partition to install the 64-bits version. My question is: Do I have to format all 3 partitions to install the OS. Obviously I would rather not!

Basically, I am wondering, when the installation will be over, if the 64-bits Vista will "see" both D: and E: partitions. I am wondering if the the 64-bits installs a different file system. Different form the 32-bits version.

If you read between the lines, you've realized that I am trying to NOT backup all my files...

Any thoughts appreciated.

YoungBob.

Answer:Solved: 64-bits file system (Vista Premium)

You will only have to reformat the partition the x64 OS is on. The other drives will still work the same and just fine.

Hi, I tried to reinstall Vista on my T500 (2650-A29), I had Vista 32 bits, and I tried to install Vista 64 bits. After installing everything, my video card (Radeon HD 3650) has an error with its drivers. Windows can't load the drivers.I installed those drivers: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-70417 After rebooting, there's still an error, I can make it work by uninstalling the drivers for my video card and reloading. It will install drivers, and switch to the ATI video card. But, if I connect to an external display, I have a blue screen...Then, if I reboot, my drivers are still erroneous... And Windows still can't load the drivers. I retried to reinstall all my system, this time I used the ThinkVantage System Update for installing everything. But I still get the same error and windows can't load the drivers. Then, I retried to reinstall all my system but with Vista 32 bits, thinking it was an issue with 64 bits, but I am now under Vista 32bits, and my video card drivers still can't load! I don't know what else to do... Thanks for your help and sorry for my English, I hope it's understandable. Cordially,

Hi,
I just purchased my computer a couple of weeks ago. It comes with Vista 64 bit.

Today a problem happened for the second time. I type some website into the internet explorer address bar, then it goes crazy opening the exact same page over and over and over.

Have a look at this screenshot

Any idea what causes this? Apparently after opening tons of windows, IE runs out of resources and the windows become black.

Notice that these are NOT advertising pop-ups. It is just the same website opening over and over.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Answer:Internet Explorer on Vista 64 bits weird problem

Is it the same website - or does any website do this? How about Google?

Have you tried doing the same in Firefox?

Hi,
First of all, thank you for reading this ; I'm asking for your help following the advice of a moderator on this site, who --- I don't know if he/she took a long look at my FRST logs --- suggested I post here because I might have a Trojan problem.

My problems began as follow :

I couldn't install any of the programs I'm used to have on my recently bought second hand PC,
   Vista 32 bits,
E6750 2,66 ghz
process duo core.
75 Gb.
2 Gb RAM

I can't install Bitdefender 2016, although I downloaded the right version. I have a screen saver of a message I can't possibly understand without long reseach, time I have not right now. And, come to the thought of it might be because I was earasing the install file at the same time it was trying to run it...

Sry my pictures extensions are faulty. I will need your advice in order to share them here.

Afterwards, a message also requested I download Vista Service Pack 2  (and then I got suspicious when I read all steps to install Service pack 1 in order to get nbr 2), please confirm or invalid my suspicions. I need to create a admin (username which I already have even if it's a stranger who named the OS before I bought it, and stuff ... got me uncertain).

I was also wondering if my ''wuauclt"exe was a trojan horse, since that moderator had his/her suspicions. I still took the time to research a bit and found an article saying thi... Read more

Hi,

I need your advices about wheter I should install Seven ultimate 32 or 64 bits.
My configuration is a bit oldish and I am not going to upgrade it.
- Gigabyte GA-K8NS
- Sempron64 3100+
- 3x1GB of DDR PC3200
Most of the application I use are so far only available in 32 bits.
All my hardware have 64 bits driver.
Got only 3GB of RAM so it is fully addressed by Seven 32

Do I get any better performance by having Seven 64
and use mostly 32 bit applications ?

Answer:Windows seven 32 or 64 bits

If your computer is old and most of the programs would not run with 64 bit, I would stay with 32. The performace increase would be marginal, at best.

Question: windows 64 bits

good day
how do i know , 9if their are any way ) what windows i do have in my PC , it is windows 64 bits or other. thank you verry much. and what it is the difference between the 2 windows.

Answer:windows 64 bits

howdy Leduc,

If you right click the "my computer" Icon and click properties it will tell you right in that window what version you are using..

As for which one is better? That depends. If you are using a 64 bit cpu like an AMD 64 then the 64 it will work. If not then it will not work. Another easy way is to know what type of cpu you have. If it is not a 64 bit cu then you cannot have a 64 bit os..

What type of cpu do you have?

Hello:

We plan to buy several laptops and desktop preloaded with XP and most of them will have at least 8 GB of memory.

From what I have read XP 32 bits cannot access more than 4 GB. Is this true? What would happen if I install 8 GB on an XP 32 bits machine?

Should we go ahead with 32 bits or 64 bits?

I've heard that the 64 bits laptop drivers are kinda expensive.

I'm not sure if all of our existing applications (i.e. antivirus) installed on our existing xp 32 bits machines could be installed on a 64 bits machine with no problems.

Or would we need to purchase the 64 bit versions?

Thanks and help is greatly appreciated.

Answer:Windows XP 32 or 64 bits?

it is true 32 bit will only see about 3 gigs, however, companies are not beyond selling more than what is needed for the sake of a sale. It is done all the time.

drivers are free. Just go the specific laptops manufacturers website and see if they have 64 bit drivers, if they do, all you have to do is download and install - once you install a 64 bit os. However if they don't then there is a good chance your computer would not support 64 bit os for the specific operating system.

64 is the norm now. generally speaking 64 bit computers will support either 32 or 64 bit drivers and software.

one other thing to consider, if you want to upgrade from 32 to 64 bit, you will have to do a complete install of the os. You cannot upgrade.

Hello,

I'm planning on getting Windows 7 64 bits. I was wondering if I can install this on a non-64 bits processor? (the rig in my signature)
A tech told me I could run it without a problem, but he is also a seller for a large business equipment so I think he's more of a seller than a computer expert.

And if I can't, any suggestions on a good 64 bits processor? I don't especially need a beast, I'm infographist and I need to run the Adobe Suite CS5.

Thanks!

Answer:Windows 7 64 bits on this system ?
