Can't install 7os. DVD drive wont work, bios doesnt support usb drive.

Question: Can't install 7os. DVD drive wont work, bios doesnt support usb drive.

I everyone!! thank you so much for having me on this forum. I usually do everything possible before asking for help and this problem Im really out of ideas( I have a compaq presario f700 laptop that im trying to do a clean install in. It initially had vista but i decided to put win 7 over it through my usb portable drive (inside vista). It installed but I think it would be best to do a clean install cause vista hade soo much crap and info that i suspect is making win 7 slow.. and there is where I ran into problems.....

The dvd drive inside the laptop doesnt work at all and the usb portable drive only works inside the os but cant boot through bios. The bios doesnt give me an option to boot the dvd drive and make the clean install. The bios only has options like , "usb floppy" usb hardrive", usb diskette" but no "usb rom" option" and yes, I have tried every combination possible with no luck. The usb drive only works inside of windows so i have no idea why I can't boot with it.

I have read many hours on this issue but the main consensus i find is that my laptop just doesnt have that option to boot my usb drive. If this is the case, how am i gonna do a clean install aside from buying a new dvd drive for the laptop(which may not work) please any ideas would be greatly appreciated

The laptop has 3gb of ram and a turion 64x2 so it shouldn't be taking me a minute to startup after installing a fresh win 7(through vista). This is why I want to do a clean install.

Preferred Solution: Can't install 7os. DVD drive wont work, bios doesnt support usb drive.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Can't install 7os. DVD drive wont work, bios doesnt support usb drive.

Are you under the impression you can't clean install over an old installation by running a Custom install from the old OS which will overwrite C? This is pretty close to a clean install in the sense it isn't an inferior Upgrade install which carries over Vista programs and settings.

However I'd first try to boot the installer. After writing the ISO to stick using a reliable app like UltraISO Software To Create Bootable USB Flash Drive did you expand the USB Hard Drive choices to see if the stick is listed there as it often is? Did you try setting the HDD as first boot device in BIOS setup and then use the ESC key to display a boot menu, look for flash stick there, or expand USB HD choice there to see if USB is under that?

Did you try booting the USB DVD drive using the ESC menu, even trying the USB diskette choice to see if it will work?

If none of these work even after verifying the stick will boot successfully in another PC, then I would run the installer from the OS you have on there now, choosing C partition to do a Custom install. Afterwards your old OS will be stuffed in a C:\windows.old folder which you can save long enough to make sure you have everything then delete using Disk Cleanup.

Hello, i normally chill on the gaming forums, cept this time i have a hard drive issue.

I recently bought this setup, its a whole new computer:

Graphics Card- Radeon ATI x800 Pro
CD Drive- Memorex 16x Dvd 48x CD rom
CD Drive- Memorex 52x CD rom
Sound Blaster Live
Creative SBS Live 5.1
Motherboard- Asus K8V SE Deluxe
Cooling system- Silent Boost/ Case Fan Tornado
Ram- Corsair 1024 3200 Kit
Processor- AMD Athlon 64 3200
Case- X Super Alien
Harddrive- Maxtor 200 GB SATA

When i got all the parts, my dad built it all up.

Now, when i go to turn it on, it shows up with the blue screen with Bios stuff.

For some reason or another, the Maxtor isnt listed.

Anyone know why?

Answer:Maxtor Hard Drive wont work without Bios!!! Need help here!

Hi All,

Have a very frustrating problem and I hope someone can help - just bought a shiny new tower and all the parts for an upgrade and I thought I'd get a Maxtor 200gb SATA drive to go with it. However I cannot install the SATA drivers when I press 'F6' during the initial stages of a Win XP Pro install. Nothing whatsoever happens when I press the key... it just goes to the next options. Therefore Windows will not load!
The Bios is picking up the drive and I have formatted and partitioned it through MAXBLAST. I created a 10gb 'Windows' drive and have tried formatting in NTFS and FAT32.... but all to no avail.
Oh and I've tried 2 keyboards and still get the same result.... No F6!
Anybody any ideas.... would be most appreciated.

the Donk.

Answer:Cannot install on SATA drive, F6 wont work

you said your tried two different keyboards but was one of them a PS/2 connection? I have never had any luck with installs using either a microsoft keyboard or a USB connected keyboard. I keep a cheap 10.00 PS/2 Board around for installs.

another thing I assume you are using a floppy disk with the drivers on it are you sure your Floppy Drive is working?

I bought TPS230U in may2013, and one monthe ago, the laptop just turned off by itself and wont turn on anymore. I had tried troubleshoop refresh and resetting options but it doesnt work.
My warranty certificate is still valid for itnernational support (now I live in  Brazil), so that, I called Brazil´s support (My laptop ID is: Type 3347 2GU S/N xxxxxxx 13/02.
At the first time I contacted by phone, the attendant asked me to (once again) turn off the laptop  and call back again. Well, I did it, adn (of course) it didnt work. So I called once again. The second the new clerk said I should buy a cd or dvd ( which could not be via USB stick ) , download from other computer and copy  an image file  that lenovo would understand the problem . I explained that I had not cd to record that moment. But he was very rude, and told me that it the  support goes to my house and concludes that there is a software problem and not hardwa, I was supposed to pay for the visit. So, I went to a store and bought a recordable CD , recorded the ISO file and got home to insert it into the laptop and....for my surprise,  my laptop doenst have any  entry for CD ! I feel that lenovo has been really disrespectfull with me and all I want is to have a simple support to my laptop, but I still couldnt have. Pleaase let me know how can I solve this problem before my waranty term expires!!!

Any help would be great. Thanks.

Answer:help!!! my cd drive doesnt work

Have you tried booting to a CD? A Windows install CD, or 'live' CD like Knoppix or the UBCD4Win, even bootable memory diagnostic or hard drive diagnostic would work. If you can successfully boot to a CD, that would tell us that the CD is functionally OK (for reading CDs anyway) and that the problem is Windows/software based. Does the drive appear in the Device Manager? in My Computer? in the computer management console? and what version of Windows are we dealing with? XP? Vista?
Try booting to a CD. Then post with the results of that, and some more details, and we'll go from there......

Answer:My dvd drive doesnt work

Check your "Device Manager" (Right click my computer>select properties>Click the hardware tab>then click "DEVICE MANAGER"). Check and make sure your dvd drive is listed there as properly working. If it is, try finding a driver update/frimware upgrade.

I have tried 2 sets of Cd Drives on my computer and non of them work. 1 cd drive worked for about a week and then stoped. when ever i try to reinstall it, i get this message

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)

Can someone please help me? i cant read any disk so that means i cant use any recovery disk.

When you say you have 2 sets of CD-Roms, does this mean you have 4 cd-rom drives?

Go to the Device Manager and Remove your CD-Rom Drives and restart your computer and let Windows reload the drivers.

Device Manager:
Right Click My Computer>Properties>Hardware Tab>Device Manager>Click the + by CD Drives>Click on each one and Remove>Restart

I have had windows vista for the past 5 years and I'm ready for a change. With the recent failing of my graphics card (Nvidia Geforce 8300 GS) I went out and purchased a new one (Nvidia GeForce 210). Nothing extra special but I was certainly excited about it after dealing with yellow lines, black dots, and a far too large screen for anyone to handle, for a few months. I waited as long as I did to replace the graphics card, because (and this is just my luck) my computer started to act funny around the same time it started failing. Silly me, I thought maybe it was just a virus or malware issue. Mostly I just like to fix things myself and I made it a goal of mine to figure out the problem. After giving it a month of extensive searching I gave up..or gave in. Bought the new graphics card, went crazy and bought windows 7 too. I just wanted to clean install and start over at this point. (Yes, everything is backed up). I wasnt really sure about how to go about doing this though and decided to install the graphics card first. After doing so though, and this was an after thought, I cleand installed Vista because maybe I should've uninstall the previous drivers first? Anyway, Vista loaded, beautifully.... and this is with just a standard VGA graphics adapter? How is that possible? I tried running off VGA just 2 days prior and it looked like a even more messed up version of a really bad safe mode before I did the clean install? Well, anyway, Im not really complaining. It definitely is ... Read more

Answer:dvd drive doesnt work, please help

Personally it might be best to spend $35 on a new dvd unit and your problem should go away. However one of the few windows problems I have encountered with cd/dvd's was after installing the hardware driver for the unit it would have the yellow exclamation beside the dvd/cd drive in device manager and would not properly install on the newer operating systems. In that case I researched: how to delete the high and low filters for dvd, and that solves that issue. That does not sound like your issue. Have you another unit you could install in and see if the problem disappears? Most likely needs replaced....10 min. job. it is 5yrs old.

So, I found out from something earlier that there maybe a way to have a Virtual CD drive and then I can run an iso. Can you burn a copy of a Windows XP Home CD so that it is an .iso file so that I can reinstall without the CD drive working? or am I way off the mark............ If so, can someone walk me through that, as I don't burn cd's often.... I do have Ashampoo to use though.....

Answer:Usb Flash Drive Doesnt Work!

The picture is too small - can't really see anything.

I have the opposite issue - my home computer works fine, but my work computer will not detect the thumb drives automatically. Every time I plug a thumb drive in at work, I need to open Device Manager and scan for changes - then it detects it (98% of the time). I never figured out why this happens, but it wasn't always like that.

Okay, i got an HP pavillion. It has a DVD/CD writer drive, and a normal CD drive.
You know how that works.

Heres the problem, i rarely ever use my CD drive, and the last time i used it was to install some software for my mp3 player. Well basically it wont open when i push the button, and the only way i got the disc out was to put a paperclip into the little hole to eject it.

I went into Bios, and ont he Main screen it lists my DVD/CD writer, but its not detecting my other drive?

How do i fix this? im pretty sure the drive isnt like DEAD, it just not being detected/power given to it.

Help please.

Are you using XP or 2000? If so, go to your control panel, then Administrative Tools, then 'Computer Management'

Select Logical Disk Manager, and look at the new hard drive.. ensure that you have created a partition on it and formatted it. If not, create one there by right click the 'Free Space' section and selecting new partition... the rest of it is pretty straight forward.

I have an Hp that my kids havent used for awhile and upon hooking it up it had some problems. I have uninstalled cd drive in device manager and it reinstalled at startup but still no cd, when i put a disc in the light flashes slowly then starts blinking very rapidly. What to do?

Answer:Satellite L40-15G - BIOS doesnt recognize DVD drive

Hi buddy,

What was the original drive and where you have ordered the new CD/DVD drives?
Have you checked if there is a jumper for master/slave setting? If yes try it with master and slave mode.

The problem is that not all drives are compatible to all notebooks. If you are not sure what drive is the correct one ask an authorized service provider for help.

Hello.

(Sorry about my English, it is bad )

I have bought new Acer Aspire E 15, E5-511-P461
S/N [edited for privacy]

Then I installed to him SSD drive, Intel SSD 530.
And when I try to instal win 8.1 x64 on it - windows installer does not see any HDD. He suggest me to load driver..
I have tried any drivers.. From intel SATA/RAID/AHCI.. - doesnt work.
In bios SSD drive - is detected! And thru USB -> SATA converter from windows it is work OK!
In bios is AHCI mode selected.
I try UEFI and Legacy modes - doesnt matter

Then I try to install it on my OLD Aspire 5738ZG. I put Intel SSD 530 to it, choose SATA AHCI in bios, then put same windows 8.1 install cd and it see it! I can install windows!

Then I try to put Win7 x64 to my E 15, and its see it! It see SSD!

So, I made a conclusion Acer E5-511P has no compatibility with installation Win 8.1 on SSD drive! It does not see it!
And it is not hardware problem, because BIOS see it, and Win7 installation CD - SEE IT !

So, it is software problem, may be in BIOS ?

I have send an email to acer - no any answer.

I hope specialists from ACER.COM read this forum, or this forum read people who can contact to acer workers
It will be veeeeery GOOD ! Realy.
Really need to solve that problem!

Answer:Combo drive doesnt work, looking for replacement

Hi

As far as I know you have to remove on screw which is placed at the bottom on the unit on the right side. Then it should be possible to pull out of the unit.
But I?m not a technician and I can?t say you the detailed procedure.
In this case I would recommend to contact the service partner for a replacement because he has more experience in such cases.

Last week I took out a bad, old CD-RW drive and put a new one in.
Works great!

Bad news is my DVD drive was working fine before this new CD-RW install.
DVD will play through DVD Media Player Classic but not with RealPlayer or Windows Media. DVD's used to play just fine with other players, but now...
only Media Player Classic.

Sounds like a drive issue, but why would my DVD drivers be changed when I didnt mess with the DVD drive?

Up until recently I had 2x 1tb drives.. one with the install and one as storage. I connected a new 3tb, installed windows again, copied data across from old drives. it wouldn't load unless I had at least one fo the old tb drives connected too though.. if either one is connected then its fine, even if its just the drive that never had an installation on it, wtf? I tried tthe rescue option from windows 7 disc, and it detected and SAID it fixed issues, it didnt. I got a different error message though after doing that, bootmgr or something (I forget) missing. I disconeccted the other damn drives completely and did anotehr new installation on 3tb drive, you know where you are left with a windows old folder (I didnt format) still failed, it just hangs indefinitely at loading operaitng system message now, unless I reconnect either of the other drives!

Help please?

Answer:Maxtor External Hard Drive doesnt work

Hi, what is the Model number of your drive? I assume it is a USB drive - is your computer USB2 compatible, because I suspect the drive is USB2, which I don't think is backward compatible to USB1.To find out if your pc is USB2 compatible ... Right-click on My Computer and then Left-click on Properties, then on Hardware then on Device Manager, then Left-click on the + beside Universal Serial Bus controllers - if you then see the word Enhanced anywhere within that section, then your PC is USB2 compatible. You can then just close all the small windows that you just opened. That will give us somewhere to start, to try to help you.

The other day i bought a 9800 GT 512MB. As i connected it i noticed that my computer only supported a total of 240 watts max. So i had to buy a new power supply for my hp. So i connected everything, hoping that i had done everything correctly, for it was my first time installing a power supply. When i finished, i booted it up and everything seems to be working okay. A few hours later the computer went to sleep after i left it alone for a while. And when i came back and tried to wake it by shaking the mouse, it wouldnt turn on. So i turned it on and connected the supplemental power supply that evga recommended me to do. Now everything seems to be going okay. But there is only one more problem..My cd drive doesnt read cds! I guess the graphics card is taking too much power, or maybe i should of connected the graphics card alot seperately than my cd drive, because the cables seems to be close. The disk drive still opens and closes but it doesnt read cd's. If anyone could please help me on this i would really appreciate it. Thanks

Answer:Installed a graphics card, but now cd drive doesnt work

How old, and how much use has the optical drive. These drives are fragile, particularly on the HP machines. The laser burns out or becomes out of alignment.
You might want to test by temporarily inserting another optical drive.
Also, you may have partially disconnected the EIDE cable to the drive... or crimped it. So remove and reseat all cables to the cd drive, after giving them a complete inspection.

Hi

I doubt this could be an Vista or CD/DVV drive problem? I think it?s more a disk compatibility issue.

I recommend testing some different disks from different manufacturers.
Some people said here that the TDK disks are fine?

I have tested such disks too and never had any burning / writing problems.

Hi

i have a R50e thinkpad and i recently bought an external 500Gb hard drive

there isn't a problem with transferring small files up to 5 Gb, but i encounter a problem with files close to that size or above it:

it says that there isn't enough space in the terget drive, when there is clearly enough...

i have about 380 Gb of free space in that drive

is it a problem in my usb or in the drive?

Answer:transfering large files to external hard drive doesnt work????

What's the file system of the external drive? Click on it in (My) Computer, and check there. If it's FAT32, that's a natural thing to happen. Either try to format it NTFS (will propably slow it down, if even possible), or use an archiver, WinRAR for example, to split your large files into 2-3 GB part archives.

Hello, this is just a question which I have no means to test out right now. My BIOS and ancient ACER MB, 333mhz PentProoverdrive, 128megs. I cannot use any H-drives bigger than 10g, period. No BIOS upgrades available, doesnt bother me at all, my C drive which is loaded
with a the stuff I need/use still has 8G left over. D drive right now is a 2.5G temp drive.
My question is, IF I use a formated-say 40g drive in my USB hardware would my BIOS see it
as a 10G or ???. I would have someone re-format to a 40G with FAT16 for DOS work.
I have had this beast for a LONG time, its like my Volvo '67 wagon(350K) it works.
Thank for any input or condolences.
cheers--

Answer:Using USB external drive thats bigger than BIOS support

Not a problem at all. The BIOS doesn't enter into the recognition of external drives, it's all in the system drivers. I used to have a system here with a 32gig maximum capability for internal drives, and I connected a 200gig external to it, worked just fine.

Should I just downgrade to 2TB or update Bios? Currently I have the OEM Bios version by Phoenix i believe it is 5.49.Also My OS only recognizes 746 GB even after initializing as GPT... However when I used an HDD dock, I was able to initialize with GPT and have it recognize around 2.7 TB.... Any help would be great as I am seemingly lost! Thanks!

I've got a new 320 GB Hard Drive for my Gateway Laptop that is replacing a 60 GB Hard Drive.  The computer only recognizes 127 GB.  I've read there are  three issues I must resolve.  I'm using Windows XP-Ser Pak 3 which addresses the first issue.  I ran a utility that says my 48 bit LBA is enabled for larger drives which addresses the second issue.  Lastly, I need to determine if my BIOS and Motherboard support the larger hard drive.  I read I should go the the manufacturer for that info.  Well, the Phoenix Website does not have a support tab.  I went to the Intel web site and they recommended I run a utility called 'Application Accelerator'.  Every time I run it I get a 'Your Chipset is not Applicable' message.   Am I overlooking something.  Is there another way to find out if my BIOS supports the new drive?

I'm using an Asus TUV4X motherboard (on my spare computer) and I've checked the BIOS and it doesn't seem to support booting from USB drives. (I've tried selecting the different removable devices [Atapi MO, Zip-100, etc], but nothing works)

Unless I'm mistaken, there are floppy disks that you can boot to that allow other devices to boot (eg. syslinux?), so I'm hoping something else exists that will let me boot to my USB drive.

Ideally, I'd like to boot a CD-R that boots the USB drive...

Thanks for any help...

Answer:How can I boot from a USB drive if my BIOS doesn't support it?

To my knowledge, if the bios doesn't support booting to a usb drive then you can't. Options are to look for a bios update that may add the feature, or create a bootable cd-rom with desired features/apps.

Hello all. Thanks for considering this post.I am trying to add a larger (80G) IDE drive to this system.  It seems to only recognize the first 32G. I added the LBA registry key but it still did not see the full drive.I confirmed the jumpers on the drive do not limit the drive to 32 Gig.The posts I have seen seem to indicate this system should have an LBA option in the bios but I can't find it. I have also tried downloading and upgrading the bios with the latest download for this system but the bios update indicated the bios already installed was the same or newer than the new one so I did not do the bios update.I will check the drive in a different system to make sure it is not damaged but I don't think it's the drive. Right now I would like be be able to get past the 32 gig limit.  It would be nice to be able to have a 1000Gig drive recognized as well. Any further suggestions to fix this would be appreciated. ThanksTodd.

Answer:Think Centre M50 8187: Big drive support: Can't find LBA in bios.

Resolved.I tried the hard drive in another system and the other system could only see 32G as well. Thus it was not a bios or OS system setting issue.I went to the drive manufacturer web site, down loaded a drive manager tool, did a low level reformat.Turned off the system reconnected the drive, and through system administration, formatted the drive and itrecognized a full 80 gig size.

Failing to find this LS-120 drive in BIOS or WIN7, have a number of old disk with very valuable information that I would like to retrieve and burn onto DVD's

Answer:BIOS & Win7 support for LS floppy disk drive

A modern BIOS will not show the LS-120 drive anyway, but that's not the reason why Windows isn't detecting it. Unfortunately, the LS-120 requires a third-party device driver and there's the problem - there is no compatible driver available for it on Windows versions later than Windows XP.You will have to install it on a Windows XP computer if you want to retrieve data from your collection of LS-120 disks.

Answer:cd drive wont work

What sort of cd, blank, data, audio/video? if autoplay is disabled, you will need to manually start whichever process you want.Windows Help System"AutoPlay is a Windows feature that lets you choose which program to use to start different kinds of media, such as music CDs, or CDs and DVDs containing photos. For example, if you have more than one media player installed on your computer, AutoPlay will ask which media player you want to use when you try to play a music CD for the first time. You can change AutoPlay settings for each media type.AutorunAutorun is a technology used to automatically start programs or enhanced content (such as video content on a music CD) when you insert a CD or another media type into your computer. This is different from AutoPlay, but the result is often the same: when inserted, the CD starts automatically by using a particular program. Autorun is incorporated into the media types that use it, and you can't modify it.When you try to play a CD or another media type that uses autorun, AutoPlay asks you to choose an action to perform (for example, to play the autorun content or to skip it)."End qute.

What changed when you installed your speakers? Did you do anything other than plug them into the sound card?

Not likely, but it could be a power issue if your speakers have a high wattage amp. Try unplugging the power from the speakers and see if the issue remains.

Answer:CD-Rom/DvD Drive wont work!

There are many problems people report with very CD and DVD drives. In order to help you better we need some more information. You are using Microsoft Windows Vista. Is this on a desktop? Is this on a laptop? Have you made any recent changes to your software or hardware? When did this start to happen? Here is a very simple test. Set your computer up in the BIOS to boot from the CD/DVD drive. Stick in your OS install disk, or any other bookable disk you have around, such as say Linux distribution. See the computer will boot up to the first screen of the disk. But don't let it go any further. If you get that far then that would indicate that the disk drive is basically usable and your settings in the BIOS are correct. So if that's the case, and it does try to boot the CD or DVD and it looks like it's going to work, we would could figure that something is wrong with the drivers inside of the operating system.Otherwise, if the BIOS cannot create the optical disk drive, or does not predict reliably, we would conclude that the optical drive is at the end of its life.

Just sharing this here in case anyone else on the web is looking for a way to run World of Warcraft off of an external hard drive. Up until Legion expansion it use to work for me. But recently Blizzard broke the game execution through external hard drive connected via USB and now states an error message on Battle.net stating Execution of World of Warcraft to en external device is no longer supported.I didnt want to consume 48GB of my SSD to run the game and so I went looking for an alternate way to make this work. Sure enough Blizzard does not verify that the path is linked to a symbolic link and so I am able to install WoW to my C: drive, then move the game to my E: drive which is external hard drive, and then delete the C: installation of WoW and create a symbolic link to the external hard drives path to the game and it works with no error messages. Not sure why Blizzard wanted to kill off running the game on an external hard drive, but I just cant see it eating up almost 50GB of space to run it on my SSD.Here is the symbolic link that I used highlighted. My installation is custom to C:\World of Warcraft. Anyone with default installation would have to change the path to match their installation path and change destination path of symbolic link to make it work for them. This below was run on my Windows 7 system and you need to open up the command prompt with runas administrator.QuoteMicrosoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation.  All rights... I was installing Windows XP (Had Vista Before) on my friends Notebook for the second time today (Got it this morning) because the first installation was giving me BSOD so I decided to do a full format this time as I thought that would help (I did a quick format first time.) As It was formatting the power cut off on the notebook and we went to go hook it up to the power and when we did the OS was corrupt (of course.) So I tried to boot off CD and when I did I got some file error about not being on the CD I thought the disc was dirty at the point (which it was) so I cleaned it. When I went back to the settings screen there was no DVD Drive to select to put in Boot Order, Its almost as if its disappeared. This is a LG E500 Notebook and the Drive is connected because when I put a disc in I hear it whirling away...

Please Help, Thanks.

I had a problem with my windows. When ever I plug in my Flash drive (i got a few: kingston data traveller 1gig, pendrive 128mb,etc) onto my usb port. Window will be able to detect the drive had been plug in. I can see the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon on the right side of my task bar. But i cannot see the drive appearing in "My Computer". If I double click on the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon and try to view the external drive information, I can see that its already detected and being assign with drive E: . Even if I open a windows explorer and type in E:\ , it will throw me an error "Cannot find 'file:///E:/'. Make sure the path or Internet address is correct". But if I were to restart my computer, then i can see it for the first time. If I disconnect it (thru the "Safely Remove Hardware") and plug it back in (or plug another flash drive), I cant see the external drive. Causing I had to restart my computer multiple time a day . Can anyone help me on this?

Answer:Windows XP Sp2 - My Computer doesnt show flash drive drive

I would be tempted to reload the motherboard chipset drivers. They control the USB I/O and if they are just the default WIndows ones, they may not be 100% OK with the specific motherboard hardware.

my hard drive crashed. SO i installed a new hard drive. i used the reboot disk. but, when i put the floppy reboot disk.. all it says is reboot ok. but, in never install... Pls help..

Answer:hard drive wont work

Whats the reboot disk?

If its a Dell, HP, or another big brand name system then you should have a Recovery CD/DVD. If its a custom built computer you should have a Windows CD.

With either type of disc you need to enter the BIOS setup, usually DEL or F2 on startup, and change the boot order so that the CD\DVD drive is the first boot device and the hard drive is the second boot device.

Sorry, I'm back again. I turned off my other computer for a while and it has a lot of things wrong with it =\ ive invested some money in it, and I'd appreciate it if you could help.

Okay, so I plug in my flash drive, (it's an off brand, I'm not sure what brand it is or where I got it). And it works fine, it acts like its working properly until I go to copy something from it... A bubble on the right side of the taskbar states it's malfunctioning. Then, it says it doesn't have a driver, but I used it all the time before! AND it works on all my other computers, (Dell Laptop, Compaq old PC, Newer Emachines PC) But not my older one! Please Help! The old T2240 emachines PC doesn't have interent, so it needs a flash drive!

Here are the specs for my PC

Emachines T2240
640 MB's of RAM
Celeron CPU 2.20GHz, 2.19 GHz

Please Help!

Answer:USB flash drive wont work.

Hello,

You failed to mention what OS the older machine has. Since you mentioned it runs on new pcs without a problem, I suspect you are trying it on an older os. Xp and above have drivers and recognize this, but if the OS is older you will need to install drivers for this usb device. I suggest you find out the make and download drivers for win9x or whatever it may have. Also, if not older os, have you tried to run it under a different windows profile ?

i have a problem..my floppy(adrive wont work.. i looked inside my computer, and all the plugs are hooked up to it..is there any way i can fix this? help me please

Answer:my floppy(a:)drive wont work

Could you be more specific? Do you mean it won't read disks or it won't power up?

If it can't read disks but powers up, make sure you've tried multiple disks. If it doesn't power up, make sure it's firmly connected to the power supply. There should be 2 cables coming from the drive: a smaller one and a wide, bumpy one. Another thing to do is to check your BIOS and make sure it's configured correctly.

If you've tried all this with no luck, try replacing the floppy drive itself. They are really cheap anyway.

I just purchased a western digital 160gb SATA 2 hard drive but my motherboard only has sata 1. So i hook everything on when i get to the formating screen where i pick what drive to install it on it says no hard disk detected. What can it be from?

Answer:Hard Drive Wont Work

Most Sata boards require an external driver not on the windows disk to be detected during a windows installation. This is because SATA ports are integrated into the raid controllers on motherboards. The motherboard drivers CD should have raid drivers. you need to make a floppy disk with the drivers. and an OEMtext file. most comapnies offer an executable file that will put those files to a disk for you. No, you cannot run teh drivers from a CD. it must be from a floppy.

Let me start by saying these forums look very helpful and I'm glad to be a part of it! I also hope to contribute in any way I can to the community. However, I have a problem.

I recently unplugged my computer to do some cleaning with compressed air. I'm very methodical and have always taken care of my PC. I had done this same routine and never had a problem until this.

I have a Cyberlink DvD drive that used PowerDVD as the program to play dvd's. When i plugged my computer up and started it after a good cleaning i now notice that I have a floppy drive (a on my control panel that has never been there before. And also my DVD drive stopped working all together. It will read neither audio or dvd's. I uninstalled the software and reinstalled even unplugged it and rebooted and plugged it back in inside the computer. For instance when i put a Audio CD in it and go to control panel Drive E and right click and open it the only thing it ever says there is Track 00 winamp media file 1KB. I will leave it at that for now and answer questions regarding this letdown. Thanks in advance for all help.

Answer:Cyberlink DvD drive wont work!

Welcome!

Just by way of getting a better understanding, do you actually have a floppy drive installed?
(it is an option on the Dimension 8300)

When you "replugged" everything inside the case, did you also check the DVD cable connections to the motherboard as well?

I just got a new 40 gb OEM hard drive (IDE) and connected it up with my other 40 bg IDE HDD on on the same IDE cable. I set the jumper on the old one to master and on the new one to slave so i know thats all set up properly. But when i start windows, my hard drive doesnt show up in "My Computer" but it does show up in device manager and in device manager it is listed as working normally. Does anyone know why the drive doesnt show up in the drive list?

Answer:Sound Drive wont work

Assuming that you need drivers for the Gateway in the post about your warranty:

If you key the system serial number (10 digits, probably on a label on the back) in the box at http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/dlcenter.asp, you'll be taken to a page with drivers for all the hardware on your machine.

Hi guys, I can not save files on my flash drive any longer.it says the disk canot be written to because it is write protected.please remove the write protection from the volume in drive\device\harddisk1\DR6. When i try to format it gives me the same error. Can you guys help me out? Thanks a lot.

Answer:flash drive wont work

Some of these devices have a small switch when prevents them being written to. Check if your device has one and ensure it has not been set to locked.
