My new PC just died an hour ago, what do I do?

Question: My new PC just died an hour ago, what do I do?

Hello everyone, first post.

Here is my scenario:

My new PC failed intermittently just about 50 minutes ago, I don't know what to do or how to proceed. I panicked and unplugged it from the outlet and everything so as to prevent possible damage - it kept restarting all on it's own.

I was in the middle of playing WoW when it happened, was doing some BG's this morning and suddenly in the middle of a BG my PC switched off just like that (as if the power had gone out). Then it began restarting itself over and over, with each boot being shorter and shorter than the last. By the last two re-boots I couldn't even get to the login screen.

For some background, I bought this computer in October 2014 (almost 9 months ago), it has the following stats:

1. Core i5 4430
2. Gigabyte B85 "Phoenix" Mini-ITX Motherboard
3. G. SKILL 8 GB (2 x 4GB sticks)
4. Sapphire Radeon R9 280 3GB
5. SeaSonic Modular 620W PSU
6. Western Digital Black 1TB
7. Thermaltake Core V1 Mini-ITX Case
8. Windows 8.1 64-bit
9. Thermaltake NiC L31 140mm fan cooler
10. Arctic Silver 5 paste

My first guess is that the PSU has gone bad, but that's just my un-educated guess due to the behavior of restarting itself over and over. I've ruled out viruses since I have a pretty good anti-virus package and run a scan daily before I start playing.

It should be noted that the CPU fan, GPU fans, and case fans were all spinning correctly as the rolling restarts ocurred. Motherboard appears to have still been working since I *was* still able to make it to the desktop during some of the first restarts. The GIGABYTE screen was also still there at the start of each re-boot.

Help me out here, what could it be based on this behavior?

In case you were wondering, the temperatures were all fine as verified by AfterBurner. I usually leave AfterBurner on while playing games and in the upper left corner all the temps were well within safe range.

How do I proceed from here? I am fearful of starting it up again in the event that it is a bad PSU - could fry the non-bad components. What is your recommendation at this time??

Thank you so much I appreciate any advice and will answer your questions to the best of my ability.

I guess if there's a silver lining to this, it's that the warranty on pretty much all the parts should still be active as it has been less then one year. So if one of my parts is bad I should be able to get this fixed for little more than the price of postage.

I will eagerly await your responses/recommendations

Preferred Solution: My new PC just died an hour ago, what do I do?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: My new PC just died an hour ago, what do I do?

Try disconnecting all the cables and re-seat their connections. Bad seats in data cables or card slots will cause problems like this.

This is getting very old, BSOD without warning, critical process died message, and reboots after collecting error information. I don't know what to do to fix it. Started after upgrade to Windows 10 from Windows 8.

Hi all.

I'm new here so first off if I'm missing any info or you need anything more specific, just let me know.

About 6 days ago my computer started to crash (as in no shutdown sequence, just straight off) and reboot on the hour, every hour. So 11am, 12pm, 1pm on the dot.

I tried memtest to see if it was a memory issue and it ran for 3 hours with no errors. Safe mode is not effected so it seems to be specific to windows proper.

Here are the main details about the error:
SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION 0x0000003b Caused by driver ntoskrnl.exe

There was a weird error message in task scheduler as well, which I have posted in the screenshots below.

I have also attached the logs as per forum instructions and a dump from bluescreenview although that may just be the same, I'm not sure.

That's all I can think of right now, but please fire away any and all suggestions and I'll add more info as I can

Answer:Windows Crash & Reboot Each Hour, On The Hour 0x0000003b

EDIT: see the next post, Driver Verifier is designed to cause BSOD's. Please turn it off.

The reports are incomplete. Please rerun the data collection app and let it run for at least 15 minutes (or until the app itself tells you that it's done)

If it didn't shut down while running Memtest, but does in Windows - then it's a Windows problem.
The errors point to memory access problems (NT Status of 0xc0000005)

First, AMD OverDrive (AODDriver2.sys) is either a stand-alone application, or a component of the AMD VISION Engine Control Center. This driver is known to cause BSOD's on some Windows systems.

NOTE: these symptoms were from the previous release of OverDrive. The new release uses the same driver name, but is dated from 4 November 2013.

Please un-install all AMD/ATI video stuff from Control Panel...Programs...Un-install a program
Then, download (but DO NOT install) a fresh copy of the ATI drivers from Global Provider of Innovative Graphics, Processors and Media Solutions | AMD (in the upper right corner of the page)
Use this procedure to install the DRIVER ONLY: ATI video cards - DRIVER ONLY installation procedure - Sysnative Forums

If the device (AODDriver or AODDriver4.01) remains a problem, open Device Manager, select the "View" item.
Then select "Show hidden devices" and scroll down to the Non-Plug and Play Drivers section.
Locate the AODDriver entry, right click on it and select "Un-instal... Read more

I am in desperate need of help here. I have HP 1000 notebook which was given to me in free laptop scheme by our Prime Minister. This laptop came with battery of over 4200mz i dnt exactly remember but through out the year 2013 and end of 2012, its battery timing was more then 3 hour, even 1 month ago. But from last couple of weeks it has reduced from 3 hour to 1 hour.

The laptop heats up now and it omits very heated air from side fans.Furthermore, the summer in Pakistan is at the peak. Normal temperature here is between 40 to 45C. I dont use laptop in Air Conditioned room so it heats up. Kindly tell if all laptops do the same or this laptop has some issue..
Kindly suggest any solution for batter. Is it the laptop or the battery has completed its life.

( one more thing. i removed battery for 2 days to put the laptop on ac because the battery on charge makes is too hot to use so i often take out the battery. But it never happened before....)

Answer:Laptop Batter suddenly reduced from 3 hour to less than 1 hour

Has the laptop ever been cleaned? It it's running hot, the fans will run at higher speed, thus the battery life will be shorter.

Hello,

I have a Satellite M100-152 for about 14 months now and I am quite happy with it.
Since about 2-3 weeks, I have a problem with the Clock (RTC).

If I set the clock to the current time (e.g. 09:23) it will run for one hour till 10:23 and then jumps back to 9:23 and run again till 10:23, jumps back to 9:23 and so on until I set the time again. The date doesn't change of course, since the clock doesnt get to midnight.

There is no warning during startup that the battery is low or empty (the warning is enabled in the BIOS) and it shouldnt be empty by now, right?
I tried to disable synchronization and automatic summer/winter-time, no effect.
The problem seems to be totally independent of the Laptop switched on, switched off, connected to power supply or disconnected.

Dont take every information for granted, but this is how I experience it right now.

I have no clue and I didnt find anything so far on the web.
Any hints and tipps appreciated!
Thanks in advance
Torben

I charged the Laptop now for about 60 hours straight, no change.

Any hints?

Also an 'x' sign blink on my battery at taskbar showing consider for battery replacing.
but i don't think so that my battery is dying.
Please fix it.
I'm thankful for that.

Answer:Battery Backup decreases from 4 hour to half an hour

It sure sounds like your battery is dying. Is the laptop still under warranty?

If you remove the battery, will it run on just the power supply without problems?

Hello everyone,
I have been suffering with win 8 ever since i upgraded from win 7. I get bsods every hour almost.

Crashes about 1 hour into use, every time i boot up. Error on bsod critical_process_died. After this, the computer automatically reboots and goes into a blue screen again without ever booting up fully, with error code saying a device couldnt be found. does not specify which device. error code 0xc000000e.

i manually turn off and restart at this point, and system boots in fine. This happens EVERY single time.
System config:
Windows is installed on its own C drive which is a 64gig ssd drive. 500gig hdd also on board. Regular setup, no raid or anything fancy.

Recently had many issues with my computer and ended up reinstalling windows. Once i got everything "clean" i ran a malware antibytes scan and cleaned the 30+ files that were left. The computer is running 85% now. The only issues i seem to be having is internet explorer will lag at times for a minute and just freeze, i open task manager and i see the rundll32.exe file is near the top i close that and internet explorer works fine. Occasionally probably 3 times in the past week i'll get hit with a million pop-ups i do a group close and then close the rundll32 file and it goes away. Today i noticed that at exactly every hour my computer would beep, i opened task manager and watched what process's would use my cpu exactly on the hour when the beep happened. The two process i could see were rundll32.exe and winlogon. I'm sorry this is so long hopefully someone can help, below is my hijack log

hi ive had vista ultimate x64 installed for a little over a month.
on the morning of the 27th of last month i woke up to the login screen or rather vista booting woke me up at like 6 am. i logged on set somtheing running and wnt back to sleep. i woke upo later that day to the login screen again. i check the system log in the event viewer and saw that it had restarted every hour since it had woken me up the first time. preceded to do a sys restore to the 26th and all was well again. it stopped restarting on the hour till today when i came home from work to find the login screen again. i logged back on and it restarted an hour later. so i did another sys restore to the date of the 31st and it is fine again. now when it had strted restarting i hadnt installed anything new. after i did a system restore i installed nod32 cause i had been lazy about it. i had also read a post somewhere that said you can force vista to not restart on a system failure. and i did so but it did nothing to stop it from restarting. aslo when it started to restart today the msot recent thing i had installed was adobe reader 8.0 and that was the restore point i chose.

baisically id just like to know what could be causing this. all of my drivers are vista 64 compatible. it is a fiarily new system.

Hi there. I have Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit. A while ago i started to have problems with the clock time. So i started searching for answers on Google. Every topic referred to Cmos battery but I doubt it to be Cmos battery fault for one reason: My Laptop Emachine eMe442 is for like a month or more plugged in to the wall socket so in my (noob) opinion Cmos battery wouldn't be needed in idle mode or when pc is switched off to keep track of time. Right? Anyway, i been reading a topic on this site on same problem and there was proposed to check Bios time. I did that, and guess what, PROBLEM. Bios time seems to me is not working, or not even counting....So normally this started new question. Here they are: 1) Does Cmos battery keeps time running when in idle mode or pc is off, even if pc is plugged into the charger?
2) Whats the problem here, why my pc don't keep track of time?
3)How do i fix whatever is wrong with my Bios time?
P.s: Even when i switch on my pc, if i don't click on clock it dosn't start counting, and after i click on clock and synchronize with one of default servers after awhile it starts losing time.

Answer:Bios hour not the same as laptop hour.

Hello Florin, and welcome to Sevenforums!

If the time isn't working, then it does sound like the motherboard battery. Have you tried changing the time? You can change it usually by using tab, arrow keys, and the enter key to get to it, and change hour, minute, and second. Make sure you click "Save and Exit" to reboot the computer and keep the new motherboard time settings. After that, you might log into your admin account and change the time from there. Left-click the clock, click "Change date and time settings...", click the "Internet Time" tab, click "Change settings...", and click "Update now".

Wait a little while (however long it may take), reboot the computer, go into BIOS, and check the time again. If it isn't working, then you may nee to replace the motherboard battery.

Hey all, Recently had a malware infestation including the names of MS Juan, Virtumondu and Smitfraud; I've managed to clean up almost 100% of it using Kaspersky, HJT and SAS, However i've got one very annoying problem ...
At every hour windows generates the error beep noise, and by using processexplorer64 I can see a rouge rundll32.exe process being run from one of the svchosts trying to run a dll
"C:\WINDOWS\system32\rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\pmnMgdAQ.dll",d"
The particular file was cleaned up with the rest of the malware yet something is still calling it every hour; It's interesting to note that the other normal rundll32.exe processes run at normal user level, while this one is at NT AUTHORITY

All virus scans now say im completely clean, yet I dont think this is quite right; I've even run scans from other windows partitions and safemode. When booting into safemode, or diagnostic mode with no services, this dll file problem dissapears. Could you guys please give me a hand ?

By the way, I'm using XP64 so tools like Avenger and Combofix probably wont run.

My system: Windows 7, 8 GB RAM, AMD Phenom II x4, boot off SSD, HDD for mass storage, Gigabyte Mobo...

So my computer (2 yrs old) started freezing after running for an hour.  Appeared to have no correlation to what activities I was doing.  First symptoms: Chrome (installed on C Drive) would freeze ("waiting on cache") Then windows explorer would freeze, then video would cut black and sound would play a steady tone (assuming mobo crashed at this point). Then comp would shut down reboot and be unable to find an OS to load.  If I shoot the comp, it reboots and runs just fine until another hour passes and same thing.

I assumed my C Drive (SSD) was going bad so I ran a few hard drive health softwares and all came back 100%.  I then assumed my RAM was broken and not clearing properly so I ran memtest and it came back clean.  At this point I assume it's a windows error.

My next course of action was to do a clean install of Windows 7.  Not only that but I also installed it on a different SSD.  Seemed to resolve the issue for a day but now its back, however not as consistent.  Every once in a while after booting it will freeze in an hour however it will not crash.  Just freezes windows explorer and chrome will be "loading cache" however other apps on the C drive such as rainmeter and itunes appear to still work unless that's just it running off of RAM.  If I am installing anything, such as a windows update or softw... Have you checked your Scheduled Tasks for events that occur hourly?

Let's look at these 2 sets of reports:
1)  Please do the following:
- open Event Viewer (run eventvwr.msc from the "Run" dialog)
- expand the Custom Views category (left click on the > next to the words "Custom Views")
- right click on Administrative Events
- select "Save all Events in Custom View as..."
- save the file as Admin.evtx
- zip up the file (right click on it, select "Send to", select "Compressed (zipped) folder")
- upload it with your next post (if it's too big, then upload it to a free file-hosting service and post a link here).

Hi all, a while ago domain got infected by the Conficker virus. We had removed it using the "Microsoft Malicious Software Removal Tool" and installing 4 updates.
KB957095, KB957097, KB958644, and KB958687 were the updates we used. We also used VIPRE as our anti-virus, which at the time didn't stop the virus. It did help slow it down and remove it from time to time, but it never really stopped the virus. Anyway, the virus has been removed and our network is clean, at least so it would seem. Ever since then there has been an error noise every hour on the hour. Some people have it starting at 9AM some people 10AM.

I've been looking around for some kind of fix for this, but as of yet have only found a few things that didn't fix the issue. I also noticed we were getting some errors from the NAPAgent service, which is odd since we never used network access protection. I hoped that disabling it would stop the error sound, but unfortunately it didn't. If anyone else has this issue or has any ideas on how to fix this any help would be very much appreciated.
I suppose I should mention that there are no errors in event viewer on the hour pretty much any hour that could be correlated with this issue.

Additional update, I went through the sounds to see what sound it was. The sound occurring is the one for the default critical stop sound.

Answer:Error every hour on the hour.

After doing a little further research in this I found another person had the same issue.

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic195931.html

Mine was similar, but had different names for the files listed to run. The scheduled names had the naming convention of at# # of course being the number of the schedule. After about 6 computers I've seen as many as 16 schedules existing. They make a task for each hour of every day if possible. It looks as though mine only got to make 4 before it got shutdown by AV. Their post says that it was caused by the Virtumonde infection, but I believe mine was caused by Conficker, although there is the possibility that Conficker also brought Virtumonde too. Removing these tasks does seemt o have worked. Does anyone know of a way to remove tasks from multiple PCs in a domain environment? I also have access to SCCM if that makes any difference. I am currently looking around and will post again if I find anything. Otherwise any help would be appreciated.

I just took my computer out of sleep and it said "Windows has 0 hours left of activation" I went WHAT? Can someone explain this? I activated 7068 with a beta key.

Answer:last hour

Apart from activating with a beta key, did you use any hacks to stop expiration ?

If not, it's just random, probably after a restart it will be gone.

Worst case, you might need to re-enter the activation key.

Question: Zero Hour

I'm a massive fan of C&C Generals Zero Hour but I'm having two problems

A) Very Occasionally during the game it suddenly closes saying that there is a serious error. Its not too often but its still a pain. One cause it gives is overheated hardware and I operate the game on a laptop (Vaio). Is that the explanation. I do have an active mod but there is no issues with it and it was still happening before downloading the mod.

B) I recently downloaded another mod called Shockwave (0.95)
It installed without a hitch and is run as a separate software, presumably using the games own files to operate. But every time I start it it says the same serious error message, instantly and without fail. The original game works fine (except for the first hitch) but I would love to get this working as it looks like a brilliant mod.

Any help very much appreciated

I'm getting BSODs approximately every hour or so, and I think my hard drive or cables are the issue. After the BSOD, one of my hard drives is sometimes unrecognized until a few boots later.

The BSOD error messages vary, but the most common one is 0x0000007A (0x0000000000000020, 0xFFFFFFFFC000009D)

The computer seems to be working fine aside from the BSODs. Memtest86, FurMark, CPU-Z, CrystalDiskMark, prime95, and RealTemp_370 seem to show everything working fine.

I attached the last two SF Diagnostic outputs.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:BSOD every hour or so

Hi,

Please uninstall Daemon tools as it is well known for BSOD.

Start > click on Computer > Uninstall or change a program > choose Daemon tools. Reboot.
Once uninstalled please go here and remove the SPTD driver itself with this tool:

http://www.duplexsecure.com/en/downloads

If you see an Uninstall option for SPTD, click on it.
Otherwise, go to C:\Windows\System32\drivers, look for and delete SPTD.sys manually. Reboot

Okay, I have to type this fast before another BSOD.

Over a week ago, I bought a new graphics card and power supply, specifically, a EVGA 660 GTX OC, and a Thermaltike 600w. Ever since then, I've been getting BSOD's an hour or two after booting up. Usually, Chrome will crash first, then the computer freezes up to the point where I can't do anything for about a minute. The fancy Windows Aero graphics turn off, and then BSOD. Funny thing is, if I click my mouse alot during the freezing, it speeds up the BSOD.

At first, all I got were 3B errors. To fix this, I tried a few things, and then decided to reformat my PC to factory settings. The 3B errors continued though, and lately I've seen 7F errors. All of my free time out of work has been spent trying to fix this damn PC over the past week, hours of "googling" and research. I've tried Memtest86, chkdsk, and windows diagnostics with no errors. I've returned my video card for a new one, same errors. I bought Driver Navigator to help update drivers, and I've left the side of my case open in case of overheating issues.

I'm getting so sick of all this.... so now, instead of lurking the forums, I've decided to start my own thread to see if someone could help resolve this. If I don't get back right away I apologize, I'm working a 16 hour shift in a couple hours.

Also, for some reason, the dump dates aren't in order, so check the dates.

We use Outlook (XP) to send and receive emails at home. In the last 2 or 3 days we have been unable to send or reply to any emails. As soon as we send we get a System Administrator message 452 - too mane recipients in an hour. As there was only one address on the email and we had not sent very many that before. I contacted our ISP (Tiscali - Talk Talk) who asked me to send from the internet site rather than Outlook. this worked and they said it was an Outlook problem not there problem. Anyone know how this can be sorted as I can receive emails but not rely, forward or send any. The POP3 set up is connecting both incoming and outgoing but not sending

Hello,

I get a BSOD after having my computer (windows 7 ultimate X64) on for about an hour to an hour and half. I get the following message: "a process or thread crucial to system operation has unexpectedly exited or been terminated".

It doesn't matter if my computer is under stress or not, if I leave my computer idle (even in safe mode) it gets the same BSOD after an hour. The same happens when I play an intensive game (such as battlefield 3 or dark souls or what.

Just before I get the BSOD, my SSD with windows 7 on it will hang and stop working.

I hope you guys can help

Question: Zero Hour online

Hey, I have been really into Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour for a while. As I am or have been with all the Command and Conquer games I recently decided to start playing online because CnC is so fun online no matter what game you play. However, when I join a game and it is started. I get a message telling me I was unable to connect to other players?! At first, I thought it was the router (BTHome-Hub) So I enabled all the ports and everything and turned off my firewall on my computer and stuff. Still, no luck. I checked the manual for guidance, As usual, nothing helpful. It just said to tick "Send delay" in the options which made no difference. The other day, my friend brought his laptop round to mine. At his house, he can play ZH perfectly online. Whereas, at my house, he can't. I then thought I knew it must be the router's fault. But yesterday, when I took my computer round to my friends and connected using his router, it still didn't work! Yet for my friend, it was fine. I continued to look for an answer all that night online and was running round in circles as I did everytime I gave google and some forums a try. After that, I thought, it must be my computer. Or something I had done to it. So when I got home I installed ZH on my brother's computer in the hope that I would have victory still. My brother is running Vista and it installed fine, but when I get to the selection of games that people are hosting. They are all grey and say I ca... Read more

Hello, i have a computer that crashes about every hour or so regardless of any activity, even if i just leave the computer running. After chatting in the computer hope chat, i have run memtest which was fine, sfc scan which was fine, checked my drive (SSD) health which is fine. I couldnt run chkdsk so i ran a Hirens bootCD with the drive in a laptop, and it ran fine there. It fixed a ton of problems, and i put it back into my desktop which was "broken".I then tried to run chkdsk again from there and it would scan the non-OS partitions fine, but still couldnt check the OS partition. Some people suggested that if i could run chkdsk from another computer but not my desktop it could mean problems with the motherboard. I still get the bluescreens (Attached picture), with the error code 0x000000F4. After the crash, i will get to a screen that says EFI Shell and "Cannot find required map name". It says to Press ESC to skip startup.nsh, and regardless of pressing ESC or not the screen stays like that forever. I attached a picture to show:Any suggestions as to what i should try next? Thanks

Question: Time Off 1 Hour

The network runs a server with windows 2003 server and the clients have xp pro. The server has the correct time, but the clients are slow by 1 hour. I have tried reseting the time and checking and unchecking the daylight savings box, but it keeps reseting the wrong time, and when you reset it with daylight savings checked the appointments in outlook get bumped up an hour.
All the computers, servers and clients, have the windows update KB913836 for the date/time patch, and they are still reseting themselves an hour behind. I am stumped, anyone have any insight?

Answer:Time Off 1 Hour

I ran into what may be a similar situation today.

If the XP Pro PCs are running Outlook, then you may need to install the DST update for Outlook, too.
I'm not sure why it corrected the problem for me, since the user doesn't use Outlook at all, but it did.

Worth a try.

Hi,

I've built myself an HTPC running Windows 8 and it's been running fine since about October, but for the last few weeks it's been showing the Blue Screen of Death ("Your pc ran into a problem...") after about 40-70 minutes of use.

I've run memory tests and defragemented the hard drives, and also refreshed Windows 8 (meaning i had to reinstall almost everything), but that didn't do anything.

I've turned on minidump files but can't see a C:\Windows\Minidump folder; however I've have been able to run the SF Diagnostic Tool and have attached the zip, even if it doesn't show anything useful.

Windows is installed on a 64GB SSD and then I have some HDDs for storage. Other specs are:
CPU - AMD Athlon II X3 450 3.2GHz Socket AM3 95w 1.5MB L2 CacheMotherboard - Asus M5A78L-M/USB3Memory - Kingston 4GB DDR3 1066MHz Memory Non-ECC CL7 1.5VGraphics - Asus HD 6450 Silent 1GB DDR3

I haven't updated the BIOS for the motherboard as i haven't done that before so was a little cautious about doing it if it wasn't likely to fix it. I have downloaded and installed the latest drivers for the graphics card.

Does anyone know what i can try next?

Thanks so much

Answer:BSOD after about an hour

Your BIOS dates from 2011. Please check at the manufacturer's website to see if there are any BIOS updates available for your system. Also check the readme file to see if they apply to the problems that you are having. Please be advised that flashing the BIOS is a very unforgiving process - and one mistake can physically damage your motherboard.

We've seen a number of BSOD issues with SSD's. Here's the information that I've compiled so far:

There's not a whole bunch available to test SSD's. The "easiest" test is to remove the SSD, install a platter-based hard drive, install Windows and test for stability that way.

Here's some suggestions:
- Update the SSD's firmware to the latest available version (VERY IMPORTANT!!!)
- Update the motherboard controllers drivers to the latest available version from the controller manufacturer (NOT the mobo manufacturer unless you can't find any on the controller manufacturer's website). Be sure to update ALL controllers on the motherboard! I STRONGLY suggest not using controller drivers older than mid-2012 with SSD's.
- Slow the memory (RAM) down to the next slower speed (I've only seen one person who claimed that this worked for them).
- Use any manufacturer's utilities that you may have. If you don't have any, then try this free one (I haven't used it myself): Crystal Dew World
....NOTE: Recently (Nov 2011) we had BSOD issues with the Marvell 91xx controller and an SSD. You may have to switch co... Read more

Answer:Got BSOD once an hour!

The reports are incomplete. Please rerun the data collection app and let it run for at least 15 minutes (or until the app itself says that it's done). Once done, please zip up and upload the reports with your next post.

I'm installing an XP corp DVD image on a work computer. We have the images preloaded with all the apps that we use on the DVD and usually it takes about 2 hours for a complete install. We don't have images - it is a real XP install because we have a bunch of different setups.

Anyway, this one was started at about 11am and here it is 2am and it still isn't done. It says it is loading files - it is just taking a really really long time.

Could bad DVD media be the cause? I know I've used this same disc before with no problems. I thought maybe it was memory related but I swapped sticks and it still does the same thing.

Hello again..

I've been working for the last couple of weeks transfering some of my VHS tapes to DVD. The most I've been able to fit on a 4.7 GB DVD is about 1 hour and 10-15 minutes. The image is not as clear as the original VHS when playing thru the TV. The DVD says it will hold "120 minutes of video".

What am I missing in the conversion from analog to MPEG that causes the file to be too large to fit on 1 DVD? Am I correct in using the 720 x 480 DVD MPEG setting? Is that overkill for VHS quality and perhaps causing some of the "pixelation"?

I'm using an ATI all-in-wonder 7500 with a 1.6GHz P-4 processor and a Memorex DVD burner.

The ATI came with U-lead Video Studio 5.0 which works very well for editing.

The Memorex came with PowerDVD, MyDVD, ArcSoft ShowBiz, and Nero. The ShowBiz software is the only program that allows me to transfer the edited MPEG to DVD. No matter what I load into MyDVD, it says the file is too big.

If anyone can help me with suggestions on what settings I could change to get a 2 hour VHS to fit on a 2 hour (4.7BG) DVD, I would appreciate it.

I've done a lot of looking on other sites, but have yet to find the answers.
Thanks in advance for your help...

It's difficult to explain this one so please ignore any waffle.
The problem happens every hour regardless of what I'm doing. If I'm watching a full screen video the start bar pops up disabling the player controls until I click the screen. If I'm gaming then the game collapses to the start bar, and when i click the icon it comes back but paused.
It all seems to revolve around the start bar but seems to be a very small system crash. I've scanned for viruses, none found, all my drivers are up to date. I dont lose any data or info, it's just bugging me what could be causing it.
System is Phenom II X6 3.2 GHz, 8 Gb RAM, Win7 64 bit
Monitor is Samsung SMB2230H if that helps

Answer:Every hour my pc has a hissy fit

Open task manager, click on the process tab, click on CPU at the top of the CPU column to sort by load, when it happens check task manager to see what's running, it's probably either a updater like google update or a antivirus program looking for updates.

Answer:FBI 72 Hour Lock

I don't see any leftovers in that log, but run the following just to be sure:Download Combofix from either of the links below, and save it to your desktop. Link 1 Link 2 **Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop** -------------------------------------------------------------------- IMPORTANT - Disable your AntiVirus and AntiSpyware applications, usually via a right click on the System Tray icon. They may otherwise interfere with our tools. If you have difficulty properly disabling your protective programs, refer to this link here -------------------------------------------------------------------- Double click on ComboFix.exe & follow the prompts. When finished, it will produce a report for you. Please post the C:\ComboFix.txt for further review.NOTE: If you encounter a message "illegal operation attempted on registry key that has been marked for deletion" and no programs will run - please just reboot and that will resolve that error.

Hello there folks, this is my first post and hoping someone may help?
I noticed my laptop has suddenly started crawling whilst loading pages, opening ffox, opening emails, videos etc.etc.It 'feels like' something is running behind and delaying start ups on emails and vids for seconds.
I ran combofix and started it @15:06 gmt,it finished an hour later @16:06gmt!!??
It appeared to 'stall' at stage 4 for around 15-20 mins then slowly went through the rest of the stages until it reached 50.
I uninstalled babylon toolbar months ago and went through ffox uninstall etc etc but it still shows in combofix, same as some other bits-can anyone please help?
Thanks for reading.

just got done playing this game, damn this is good game, the generals modes are very very good though I do believe the King Raptors are too powerfull

Answer:Generals: Zero Hour

I'm enjoying this too, but I think the ground force generals completely own the air force/WMD ones. The latter barely get anything for ground troops, and while they can wreak havoc on your base they can't do squat when a platoon of tanks shows up at their front door.

One word: MOAB

I'm really curious to see how these guys stack up against just playing the standard USA, China or GLA teams as well.

Question: 24 hour clock

Is there a way to get the Vista clock to display on a twenty-four hour system rather than the 12-hour AM/PM? My old XP laptop did it after the IT techs put a combo fix on it, but I was hoping I don't have to have a ComboFix to change it in Vista. I looked at the options on the clock and couldn't find it. I'm one of those strange people that prefer so called "military time".

Hello, second post here, hopefully this one gets a reply.
Every hour my computer will just shut off, and start up again by itself.
This just started happening yesterday * The 24th*, I have already tried replacing the power supply and i added a case fan to see if that was the problem, and it did not help. I am running Windows Vista Home Premium edition.
It will happen at any time, while playing tf2, searching youtube, or even if no one is on the computer.
I hope to get this fixed by tommorow *APB early release* as i am expecting one of the longest gaming sessions i have had on this computer ;).
SO any tips and fixes are appriciated, thanks for anyone who replies.

HI!
Have you checked the 'Event Viewer' for errors? There may be some very useful info there:
Start>Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer
Check 'Applications' and 'System'
Double click on any errors and there will be an option to get help from Microsoft.

You could also run this to see if it's a memory related problem:

Memory | MemTest 3.4
http://www.majorgeeks.com/MemTest_d350.html
MemTest is a RAM reliability tester. It evaluates the ability of your computer's memory to store and retrieve data accurately. A correctly functioning computer should be able to do both these tasks with 100% accuracy day in and day out. A computer that fails these tests, perhaps because of old hardware, damaged hardware, or poorly configured hardware, will be less stable and crash more often. Even worse, it will become even less stable over time as corrupted data is written to your hard disk.Click to expand...

Question: BSOD every hour

Hi my computer keeps BSOD/freezing about after about an hour of being turned on. I get DPC_Watchdog_Violation
So far I've:
1.) Tried testing the computer with each single stick of RAM but the same thing happens
2.) Tested the PC without the graphics card just using the internal graphics card
3.) Updated graphic card drivers AMD CCC
Any help would be greatly appreciated. On a side note when I updated AMD CCC I am not able to put my monitor back to it's highest resolution 2560x1600

Hi

Thanks for providing the logs and crash dumps. Please zip and upload all the crash dumps located inside the minidump folder. More than one crash dump is necessary to find a pattern.

Can you replicate the crashes by performing any particular task ? (ie opening an application, browsing net, watching movies)

The hair stands up on the back of your neck, and you feel the first bead of sweat roll down the side of your face: You've been hacked. The adrenaline starts to flow and you're ready to jump into action. But what do you do first?

In the first installment of this series, we talked about the steps you should take within the first few minutes of discovering that someone may have compromised your system. Now, we'll focus on actions you should take during the first hour. Last time, we wrapped up the initial steps by disconnecting the network from the Internet. In this article, we'll see what you need to do to patch all vulnerabilities and get back online.

Image the system to preserve a record
If you're hoping to identify the individual who caused the problem or perform more diagnosis to determine the exact source of the attack, you'll want to image the system or systems that were compromised. Imaging a system, using a package such as Symantec Ghost, creates a file you can use to recreate the system as it was when you discovered the attack. You can copy the image to another hard drive to preserve a record of the problem and then use it to help pinpoint the attacker or specific vulnerabilities. Once you've created the image, you can restore the production system to its operational state.

It's best to image to another set of hard drives and use them for your further investigations, because the imaging process copies only data that is marked as being used in the file allo... Read more

I had a BSOD about 6 months or so ago and that was fixed, the problem was an un-updated network driver. I have not had any problems with my PC since then until today. I got a BSOD with the error message 'IRQL-NOT-LESS-OR-EQUAL' with the stop code '0x0000000A', then shortly after that I got a different BSOD with the error message 'PAGE-FAULT-IN-NONPAGED-AREA' with the stop code '0x00000050'.

I have attached a ZIP containing a system health report and the jcgriff2 folder, thank you for any help you can provide!

Answer:2 different BSODs in one hour, please help

Just had another BSOD :L Yet again with a different error message

- SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
- 0x0000003B

I have attached an updated jcgriff2 scan

These BSOD's have only occured while I have been playing games, could just be a coincidence but I thought I would mention it in case it only happens when my PC is being CPU intensive.

I also realized I didn't post my specs:
Processor - Intel Core i5-3570k @ 3.40GHz
Graphics Card - Nvidia Geforce GTX 660
Gigabyte Motherboard
8GB Corsair RAM
64-bit Windows 7

My PC keeps slowing down every 60-70 minutes and not in the way I've experienced in the past. It will slow down for around 10 minutes every hour or so, like stated above, and it does it like clockwork. Over the past couple of days it has continued to happen.

When I say slow down, I mean the loading times. The fans in my PC aren't working any harder, nothing is making any unusual sounds in the tower. Any websites I try to load up in the 10 minute slow time simply don't load, even though my internet is still working perfectly and once the 10 mins has passed they load up super quick like I am used to. Also it is the same with exploring the folders on my PC - I just get the loading circle. Though the folders seem to be ok opening, it is just opening files or moving them.

It first happened a couple of days ago late at night at around the same time as McAfee installed an update. The update happened and straight away two Chrome windows, one of each of my screens, instantly froze. The first couple of times it happened I restarted and that solved it but since I've learnt that the slowness lasts 10 mins I just leave it on and let the time pass.

I've ran a full McAfee scan and used CCleaner to get rid of all temporary files etc. And I defragmented my boot drive. No change after doing all of them.

Motherboard: Asus Maximus VI Formula.
CPU: Haswell Intel Core i7-4770k. Not overclocked.
GPU: GeForce GTX 780 Ti.
Boot Drive: Samsung 840 Pro 250GB SSD. ... Read more

Answer:PC slowing down every hour.

Are you saying I should completely uninstall McAfee? My year with them expires in a month. When I started using them some years back I thought they were pretty good.

What should I be looking for in the Processes? Something that's using a lot of memory?

Question: Hour glass

The hour glass is always on beside the mouse pointer. How do you remove it so it will only appear at the appropriate times.

Many Thanks

Buddytwo

Answer:Hour glass

You have to stop whatever is running all the time like that.

Right click the TaskBar at the bottom of your screen, left click Task_Manager, then look under the processes heading for something using the CPU (ignore the System Idle process).

Also look under Applications.

Hello,Not sure if I am posting this in the correct place or not so apologies in advance if I am!My PC has very recently started 'playing up'. After booting up & launching Internet Explorer (8), I get presented with windows error reports all referring to Internet Explorer. Sometimes it's just the one, other times as many as 10-15. I have clicked on 'send report' on them all & after they are closed down everything is ok - for about an hour! After about an hour my internet connection drops off & on and more or less becomes inoperable. 'Application Errors' can often start popping up all referring to '0xc000012d'. Also sometimes will get a 'Windows - No Disk, Exception Processing Message' popping up with options to 'cancel, try again or continue. At this stage icons on the desktop, or a webpage layout can become distorted and only a reboot can sort it all out. But then it all starts again from scratch! Thanks very much in advance if anyone can shed some light on this, I have attached my 'Hijackthis' log.James

Hi there. I am really suffering here. I am running windows 7, and am trying desparately to get Zero Hour skirmish games going. I have genuine game discs with genuine serial keys, but everytime I start a skirmish match, the bots detroy within 30 seconds, sort of self destruct. I cannot get any further.

I understand that this sounds like the built in copyright issue, but I have both game discs, instruction booklet with serial number on it, and it still doesnt work.

C&C Generals skirmish works fine, but this one deoesnt. Tried several times re-installing as well as deleting all zero hour files completely and then again re-installing without luck.

Any ideas?

hey all. recently i've been having some problems with my internet. when i first turn on my computer and connect to the internet, it works fine, but after a while (usually about an hour), the internet stops working or works extremely slowly. i checked the status, and it looks like the problem has to deal with the amount of "packets" sent. the number jumps up to hundreds of thousands when it usually gradually increases. the number of packets recieved practically stops, only recieving maybe 2 packets at a time. if i disable the device and then enable it again, the same problem occurs. however, if i turn off my computer and restart it, the internet becomes normal again. that is, just for another hour. i've swept my pc with AVG, ad-aware,and microsoft anti-spyware, but the problem isn't going away. i was told to post a hijackthis log, so here it is:

This is a load a crap. Recently bought WindowsXP Pro. Tried installing it and i assummed everything was sucessful, untill it said at the MSDOS part i could not partition a partitoned drive.

It will now allow me to delete it, or format it. All it did was install over it.

I went ahead with the installation. I download AIM and find out, MY PASSWORD IS NOT WORKING. The passowrord i had for 2 years is not working correctly, great, i run 3 busniess websites and have busniess cards with taht SN on it.

First of all, How can i format this HD and unpartition it? I want to be able to boot from CD, Partiton and Install a freash copy of XP without half of my HD being missing.

Also, Before above, is there a way to get my AIM information from my old hd stuff? This is the part i will pay for. This is a massive busniess screen name. I cant afford to lose it. and spend 5000 changing letter heads, cards, licsense info... ect...

I wiped my HD on my old PC in order to put XP on it cleanly, but the install took a total of 48 hours! Here's the scoop:

I've got a K7X5A ECS MB, but not sure of my proccessor speed or ram. I was running Me on it, but couldn't stand all of the crazy errors that I always kept getting. The XP install when trying to upgrade would always hang in the same place on the status bar.

So I wiped the HD, and when I first tried to install, it asked how I wanted to partition the HD, and I just said NTFS. Well it seemed like it had hung again, so I rebooted while it was formatting or whatever it was doing.

When I went back in to reinstall, it noted a small 8mb partition already (probably from the first attempt), but I chose to just partition the rest of the space and let it go until I KNEW that it had hung after 5-10 hrs or whatnot.

It kept going, albeit at a slow pace. Before loading, I changed 2 BIOS settings. One, I switched the primary boot to CDROM, since my XP disk has boot files on it, and I loaded optimal settings.

Now that XP is loaded, it hangs when trying to boot from the HD, just after the first XP logo with the moving bars. It also hangs in safe mode.

Ideas please? I know the disc is fine, as it worked on my new PC build, I just want to run 2 PC's to have a dedicated one for work. Also, I know people with the K7S5A who have XP running perfectly.

TIA,

-Scott

I do a search and I get this message: "Active Server Pages error 'ASP 0141'Page Command Repeated/results.asp, line 3The @ command can only be used once within the Active Server Page. " Happens both in chrome and firefox. Whats it supposed to mean? 1:Whats an ASP 0141?2:I did not repeat it the 1st time I did it.3:My search was only 1 word, not 3 lines. And I wasnt looking for ASP, what ever that is.4:I didnt even use a single @ in the search. So why am I getting an error for something I didnt do?Edit: Moved topic from All Other Applications to the more appropriate forum. ~ Animal

Answer:Its the second website in less than an hour

ASP is Microsoft's "Active Server Pages" server side scripting language. It's not anything you did. Sounds like there's an error in the search script on the webserver. Changing browsers won't make a difference

Thanks

ok so i have a huge problem every 2 hours my computer restarts, it just closes whatever is open and crashes, does not just turn off, it takes abotu 10 seconds and then it turns back on, i have no idea what is wrong with it, but i thing it has something to do with the rootkit/malware clbdriver.sys

i ahve run various programs and all of them seem to point to a hidden file titled clbdriver.sys, i have followed ur cleanup for vista posted on here to no prevail, it still restarts every 2 hours and the slbdriver.sys is still present. i have several log files form GMER, catchme, combofix, hijackthis, and dss.

if i oculd get any help into the resolution of this problemt aht would be much appreciated.

i have noticed another member on here had the same clbdriver.sys problem but his doenst seem to be resolved

Welcome to Major Geeks!

If you have run the cleaning procedure and still have problems, you need to do what the cleaning procedure requested which is the below:

Step 4: Do You Still Have Problems

Yes, I?m still having problems
DO NOT run the READ ME again!!!! Please attach your logs as given below.
Start a new thread and clearly describe in detail the problems you are having and how long ago they started. Think about what you were doing at the time.

Now you need to attach (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post ) the below logs created while running the above scans
SASlog.txt log from SuperAntiSpyware.
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log

ComboFix.txt (normally C:\ComboFix.txt)
MGlogs.zip - normally it is C:\MGlogs.zip - only attach this log from MGtools.exe DO NOT attach any logs seen in the MGtools folder.
You will need to post 2 messages to attach all four logs since only 3 attachments are allowed in any single message. Post all of them in one thread.

Ever since I bought this game, I've had nothing but problems with it. I finally got it working properly for about a year then I had to reformat my computer and now I can't get it to work at all. The game will auto run but won't go into the game. It keeps telling me that there is no disk in the drive. I have all of the updates and I've even gone as far as getting new cd/rom drives. What the hell is going on? Why won't this game work properly? I can't even find a place that sells the game in case I want to replace it. My system is more than compatable with the game but it just won't work. Any ideas?

My computer has been taking a while to boot. Over an hour or so. For a while it didn't bother me to the point of asking for help. But today i realized when i was surfing the internet it was taking longer than usual. I already searched the internet and tried some on the things like defragging, Services upon start up. Nothing worked. I am assuming a virus might be the cause. I can load safe mode up no problem. Please help me...

Answer:My PC take over an hour to boot help me?

Sounds to me like you may have picked up a virus or some malware. Make sure your anti virus is up to date and run it. If you don't have Malwarebytes, go here to get a copy. It's free. http://www.malwarebytes.org/products/
Make sure you update it before running it.
If that fails, try SuperAntiSpyware. Get it here:http://www.superantispyware.com/
Download the free version. After setup, be sure it is up to date and run it as well. Hopefully, this will help.

I started a windows update for my windows 10 laptop at 10:45pm. It's now 11:52pm and it's stuck on a black screen with the little loading circle at the bottom. I can't check the hard drive activity because for some reason, the Fn-H hotkey to toggle the LED from battery status to HDD status does nothing. I hate leaving my computer overnight like this, but I'm gonna do it and I'll let you know what it's doing in the morning. I'll probably force it to shut down if it's still doing this in the morning.

My PC restarts every one hour without blue screen.

My PC System is :

Intel DG33BU_
Intel Core2Duo E6550 @ 2.33 GHz (2 CPUs)
2 GB RAM
160 GB HD
ATI Radeon HD 5450 (1 GB DDR3)

Another thing is that whenever i try to shut down it goes to shutdown mode normally but again it restarts automatically...

When i see in Event viewer it shows :
" The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly. "

Kernel-power
Event ID : 41
Task Category : 63
Level : critical

Please help me...

A similar thread was made in 2009. I'm not sure if it was resolved as the starter disappeared.

I agree that it was a hardware issue. I've seen problems like this all over the place and they were never solved on a software level.

I have had a history of occasional BSODs of different types but just today I had two BSODs with stop code 0xA. Both of them happened while installing Heroes of the Storm. I have not noticed anything wrong with my computer prior to this. No new hardware recently. I don't think there's been any new software recently, either. Usually when the occasional BSOD happens I'm not using my computer, I will come home and it will be at the BSOD screen.
Attached is the DM Log Collector zip.

Answer:Two BSOD 0xA within an hour

The DM log was empty.
Please re-post.
