Preferred Solution: Toshiba Satellite L500 PROBLEM!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,
I cannot get my Toshiba Satellite L500 13T PSLJ3E to work. Here is the timeline:

1. I brought it with Win Vista, It worked great for about 6 months but started slowing down and I decided to change it to Windows 7

2. I installed the Windows 7 using custom install(creating new "windows" folder, not upgrading Vista). Once again it worked great for about a month, but once again it ran into trouble - showing the Windows 7 version of the blue screen of death for 0.5 seconds followed by a restart.

3. I browsed the net and they said that the easiest way to get rid of the problem is to re-install. I did it(after trying several windows repairs) but yes, thats right, it died - before starting the windows it showed problems with Realtek Wireless.

4. I had hopes that third time - the charm will work and re-re-installed the W7(every time using new installation).
Once more time - doesnt work, but this time I cannot even get to install it - the windows installer stops at around 60% of the expanding files and says: problems with the media device. And after the restart I cannot find the Hard Drive(the BIOS shows only FDD and CD/DVD)

Now I'm stuck here, the only way to start the windows is by Safe Mode on my Wondows installed on point 3, yet not every time .
Unfortunately the first of my Recovery DVDs cannot start and on top of that I cannot enter into the recovery partition by pressing 0 at start up, but I see the Recovery Partition when I go to the WIndows in... Read more

Answer:Cannot run the OS on Toshiba Satellite L500

Blue screen and then restart sound's like something with hardware is wrong. I had something like that when my RAM module failed. Check your memory using memtest.

PS. I will not recommend installing windows on windows and reinstalling it. Better format drive and install new clean OS.

edit: or maybe something with your hard drive - if you had an option pull out you hard drive and check it on another computer using HDtune (or something like that)

Hi, I bought Toshiba Satellite L500 -00W and it came with Windows Vista. I tried to downgrade to XP, but it doesn't allow XP installation. Do you know how to downgrade?

Thanks!

Answer:Toshiba Satellite L500 -00W downgrade to XP

Hello & Welcome, toshibaquestion.

Downgrading from Windows Vista to Windows XP is actually a very easy thing to do, BUT, I must warn you; it's the smartest of ideas since Windows XP and Windows Vista differ in driver capability and efficiency. So when you want to you use your MIC or Webcam, they may not work, this goes for your Audio, Network and even Display.

Also, Toshiba's a popular brand, and also a very updated** one, meaning they'll most likely be packed with a webcam, nice wireless card, hi-def monitor, etc - meaning, lots more drivers for you to fuss about and have to replace - which, believe me, isn't fun at all.

Downgrading would require you to actually make a partition (D), then install XP on your partition (D), and then delete your previous partition (C) - This is how I would do it, but I'm sure there's many many many other ways.

Dabble into it abit, and see if you find anything interesting. I'll be here to answer any further questions you may have.

I have this laptop with 3 Partitions

The main partition got corrupted and apparently wiped so all windows folders have been deleted and a low level format carried out

I still have the recovery sector

Just wondering how to reinstall it back onto the main partition

I tried F8 and it took me to a screen to choose language but after that it said "You must log in to access system recovery options"

I guess user data has been wiped from the main partition ?

Are there any other keys to press on startup to access the Recovery partition ?

Thanks

Hello!

I've bought Toshiba Satellite l500-1ef November, and until now laptop worked brilliant. Three-four weeks ago, touchpad, and some space on the left of the touchpad started to be warm. I checked CPU temperature in Toshiba PC Health Monitor (v 1.4.1.64), and it was circa 30%, with 40% use of the cooler. The temperature is incresing in time, and now, after four weeks, touchpad is warmer, and it's about 45-50% temperature od CPU, with 50-60% use of the cooler.

I'm using laptop only for Internet, work in MS Word, and listening music, sometimes I play Warcraft III on it, I've got Windows 7.

Should I go with PC to technical support, or it's normal in my model?

Best regards,

Answer:CPU temperature in Toshiba Satellite l500-1ef

Hi mate

It?s nothing unusual that the touchpad would be warm since the CPU and cooling modules are placed near the touchpad.
So in my opinion you should not be worried about that.

The notebook?s temperature can increase after some time of usage?
This happens due to dust inside the cooling ventilators?
If you want, you can try to remove the dust using the compressed air spray?
I do this from time to time and this helps to keep the temperature on lower level?

No disply on my toshiba satellite L500,power supply led is getting on .

Answer:Toshiba satellite L500 not working, No disply

If you still get lights on the edge of the laptop & you can hear the fan spinning and harddisk clicking a bit but nothing at all is appearing on the display then it's either the screen or the power inverter that have gone. Either way it's not really something you can do yourself, take it to a technician to sort out. If you are not getting any lights, fan or clicking sound then it is a power issue - the LED doesn't necessarily mean that the power supply is ok. Again, not much you can do yourself, take it to an expert."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." Pink Floyd

Hi,

My L500 fan is no longer working correctly

I am getting this message

Warning:a problem with the cooling system has been detected. please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service.

The fan runs inconsistently (always for a few seconds on start-up, very sporadically the rest of the time, but it is completely stationary for the most part.

The computer is currently in pieces, and I am ready to replace the fan with a new one, however im not sure that will fix the problem (as the fan still seems to sometimes run).

Hope I've got this in the right place.

Purchased above and upgraded sucessfully to Windows 7 from XP.
However, the sound is very poor quality - sounds "tinny"

This is applicable to CDs, radio and DVDs particularly when listening to audio books and radio making it impossible to listen to. Have tried changing the settings for the Realtek High Def Speakers, but no difference. Then updated drivers. Windows test 'sounds' are okay and sound coming from both speakers.

I think I've tweaked every available setting I can find but can't find a tweak/setting to change the sound (less bass?). I have seen the volume control and it makes no difference.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

IN TOSHIBA SATELLITE L500 WHILE USING WINDOWS 7 64 BIT OPERATING SYSTEM ALL FUNCTION KEYS ARE NOT WORKING ONLY F11 IS WORKING AND SPECIALLY WIRELESS KEY ON OFF IS NOT WORKING I AM FACING TOO MUCH PROBLEM ANY CAN HELP REGARDING THIS PROBLEM

Answer:Wireless not working in toshiba satellite l500 in windows 7

For a start, turn off CAPS LOCK - it's considered to be shouting & many will ignore you.Did the laptop come with Windows 7 or have you installed it later? Are you sure there are drivers available for the wireless card - check the manufacturer's website if necessary. Some Toshiba laptops have a separate wireless switch on the front edge - if it's there make sure it is in the 'on' position. The usual key combination, as far as I recall, is Fn and F8 pressed at the same time (not F8 on its own) - there should be an LED that lights up on the front edge of the laptop when the wireless adapter is on."I've always been mad, I know I've been mad, like the most of us..." The HDMI port on my Satellite L500 laptop is not sending information to my sony bravia tv. All was working fine up until a couple of days ago. When i plug the hdmi lead into the port, it seems as if the laptop is aware it's plugged in as the screen flickers. The fn +F5 keys do as they should, but no picture appears on the tv. The tv shows a lead is plugged in also and again the screen flicks to say a source is there but then remains black. I can't see an issue in device manager and all drivers are saying they're up to date. I have also tried a new hdmi lead but nothing. Can anyone help with this?

Answer:Toshiba satellite L500 HDMI no longer works.

Try running a System Restore back to a previous point when it was working.

If still not working uninstall and re-install the graphics drivers from the Toshiba Support site for your model.

Answer:My Toshiba Satellite l500 cooling fan has stopped working

I would purchase a can of compressed air or use an air compressor (with a light gentle nozzle) and blow the dust out of the inside. If you have a failed cooling fan, then it will need to be repaired or replaced. That model I think is rather old, it may not be worth it to repair.

I have a Toshiba Satellite L500 PSLS0A-019002 with Windows 7 Home Premium pre-installed that I received two months ago as a gift.

Apart from disliking some the quirky and useless (to me) Windows Vista / 7 features, as the desktop is loading I get the error message "Toshiba Service Station has stopped working" which proceeds to find a solution, but apparently never finds one because this condition repeats itself every time I boot.

On another thread in these Toshiba forums, someone suggested downloading the independent utility called Toshiba Service Station and reinstalling it. I do not see such utility listed on the downloads page for my Toshiba model. Since I don't even know what the Toshiba Service Station does (unless it goes by another name - Toshiba Bulletin Board perhaps?), I have no idea what is causing the error or how to correct it.

Does anyone have a more precise solution?

Hi Forum,

I have a Toshiba L500 Laptop that suddenly stopped booting. When I try to boot it, it does not complete the POST process and there is no indication of what is wrong. The screen is just blank.

The fan turns on and I hear it spinning. Also, I momentarily hear the HDD spinning before it stops. I know there is power to the HDD, USB ports and the optical drive.

However, there is no power going to the keyboard as the CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK LED does not light up after I press it.

I have tried testing the CMOS battery, changing the HDD and the F2 and BACKSPACE key test without any success.

I am interested to know:

1. In what sequence does the POST process test the attached devices/peripherals?
2. Are there any suggestions as to what might be faulty and how best to fix this?

Your assistance is much appreciated,
Worried

There are 3 external USB ports on this L500 modelPSLS6C-00F005. The one on the front right has developed a problem. Nothing is recognized when plugged in. An unrecognized device error pops randomly even with nothing plugged in to the front port. When the error pops the other 2 ports stop working momentarily. For instance the wired mouse I have connected to the working port will stop, then be re-detected. The trackpad always works.
While running windows 7, I fiddled with drivers, uninstalling/reinstalling USB components in device manager and I disabled the faulty device but the error returns. I found that disabling the usb hub component made the error go away. Unfortunately the other 2 ports are attached to the same hub so I lose all usb functionality.
I decided to try and do a fresh and clean install of Windows 10 in hopes of curing the USB issue but that didn't do the trick. I found I can turn off the annoying error notification and that the error is a bit more descriptive "unknown usb device (device descriptor request failed) driver error.
Disabling the device in device manager seems to lessen the problem but in Windows 10 the device keeps getting re-enabled.
Does anybody have any idea what I might do towards correcting this issue, although I expect it's a hardware problem. Is there a way to permanently disable that one particular usb port?

Hello.

For the past few months my Toshiba Satellite L500-1 is shutting down frequently due overheating, which occurs during intensive use of the laptop (during gaming, photomanipulation etc.). However, I do not know what I can do about this. I will not open my laptop, unless I am told to open my laptop to do a specific task.

Today my laptop shut off again. However, when I turn it back on I noticed something happened with my fan. At this point, my laptop will not overheat fast as usually. Instead of fanspeed of 90+% it stays around the 58 to 60% (according to the Toshiba PC Health Monitor). Nevertheless, I noticed something happened with my fan. After shutdown I noticed that the fan will occasionally make a ticking noise, which is heard once every 10 minutes when the laptop is under intensive use.

What should I do now? This does worry me, should I be worried about this? Maybe another Toshiba user with a similar problem can provide me support. I would appreciate it.

Thank you.

Answer:Satellite L500 - Shutdown and a fan problem

Hi

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what the problem can be.
When you use your notebook do you use it placed on the desk?
Do you use it with AC power supply?

Which power profile do you use when notebook shuts down?
Have you tried to change power settings or anything else?

Before you start to use it intensively have you tried to end some background processes, disconnect external devices, just to see if this will help?

I have a friends TOSHIBA Satellite Pro L500 running win7 32bit. It has this boot up problem I have not come across before. When it boots it stops at the screen with F2 for setup and F12 for boot devices and goes no further. F12 brings up the boot device menu and when the HDD is selected the windows boot menu appears safe mode etc, I need to select 'start windows normally' which it then does.

I have tried 'startup repair', updated bios, deleted partitions and did clean install of the OS and also tried a different HDD. Nothing works.

I don't think it is a BIOS virus because no messages appear. is the ROM damaged?

Hello everyone,

I recently bought myself a new notebook, the Satellite L500-1C7. It's running fine except for one question that I have: I am aware of the fact, that the battery lasts for only about 2-2,5 hours. But is it normal for the computer to shut down when the battery sign is showing 22% (happens after about 2,25 hours)? Then, after I put the power cable in, the battery sign suddenly shows 5%.
Is this usual or is something wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite L500-1C7 battery problem

At first I must say that 2,5 hours working time on battery power supply is really great and the same is with my Satellite A300.

To be honest the whole story is a little bit strange for me. Usually before notebook switches off you should hear and see battery alarm when the critical power level is reached.
Please try to change these settings in advanced power settings and watch what happen exactly. set it to 10 or 15% and change also settings what should happen when critical level is reached (standby/hibernation/switching OFF).

If the critical level is 5% I cannot imagine notebook switches off at 22% without this battery alarm message.
How do you know it happens on 22% when notebook suddenly switches off?

Answer:Satellite L500-1UR - Problem with the graphic

Hi

Unfortunately I cannot explain what happened exactly with your machine. Maybe you have installed all available updates (important and optional). Maybe the display driver was offered as optional driver.

Anyway, what you can do now is follow:
-try to roll back OS to earlier time using system restore option
-reinstall display driver - http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp
-in worst case you can reinstall OS using HDD recovery option (I hope it works)

If you have more questions you are welcome.

I tried to upgrade my Toshiba L500-22R Memory to 8GB. I bought 2x4GB Kingston PC3L 12800 SODIMM and the OS doesn't start, I did a memory check and it fails too. I tried with a Samsung 4GB 12800 and it fails too.

The original memory works good.

Any ideas?

Answer:Satellite L500-22R - memory problem

Obviously you bought not compatible modules.
The PC3 12800 1600Mhz isn?t listed as an supported module.

The Satellite L500 can be upgraded up to 8GB RAM and you can use two 4GB DDR3 1066MHz (PC3-8500) SO-DIMM modules.

Yesterday is installed the bios update, and everything went ok. The only problem is when I now plug in my headphones, the sound also comes out from the laptop speakers. Before the bios update only the headphones made sound when I had them plugged in.

What can i do about this?

I have Windows 7 x64

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I have a problem creating recovery disks for the Satellite L500-126.

I am using the Toshiba recovery disk creator.

The 1st disk is ok.
When I try to make the 2nd disk, the systems stops exactly at 50% of the 2nd disk. and no more reaction from the disk creator.

I tried 2x, and each time i had to abort and throw away the dvd's.

any suggestions?

Hi

You should try another DVD from different manufacturers?
It?s nothing unusual that some DVDs are not fully compatible and that the CD/DVD drives cannot write the data properly?
I had such issue in the past and could solve this testing and using different DVDs.

Hello!

I recently received an Satellite L500-1XL, working just fine until i gave it to a friend...
The problem is that he updated the bios to V 2.10 (don't know why) and since then the image on the display appears like 15.4" even in bios.

Any ideas what could cause the problem?

Thanks

Dear Toshiba,

Perhaps some can explain for me how this happens.

We have 2 x L500 laptops, One was purchased and activated on a day July 2010 ( Machine1 )
The other was purchased 1 day later from the same store and activated on the same day - 1 day later ( machine 2)

Yesterday, machine 1 responded with the Warning message, there is a problem with the cooling system - please shut down the machine and return it for service.

Today machine 2 responded with the exact same message, just after being switched on after 4 hours off....an unusual situation you say or is it some sort of built in : service generating feature ???
I am not convinced it's a fluke and there was nothing wrong with either machine that I could see.

Anyway a reboot of each machine fixed the problem, see how long it takes to return.
As you guessed it , both machines are out of warranty by a few months now.

If any of you have a similar problem, would be glad to hear from you.

regards,

Ernie

Answer:Satellite L500: Warning : Problem with Cooling system message

Hi

A friend of mine has got the Satellite L500. As far as I know the notebook runs pretty well.

I?m not sure if this message has been created due to a software issue but the notebook should shuts down automatically if the cooling modules would not work properly and if the temperature would goes up to a higher level?

So I recommend watching the temp level for the next time and of course you could get in contact with an Toshiba ASP in your country if would notice higher temp or some hardware issue with the cooling module?

Hi

My DVD player is not working.

There is power to it. The motor fires up when I eject and reinsert it. The Control Panel Troubleshooting for Hardware and Devices says it is a driver problem but cannot fix it. Problem with driver.

I have reinstalled it from Toshiba site.
Is it saving to the correct place?
I'm running Windows 7 64 Bit and chose the correct driver for this.

Should I be using the 64bit?
I only have 3MB RAM which was the spec when bought.

If I wanted to change to the 32bit how do you do it without the CD/DVD player?
Is there any point in doing this?

Thanks

Answer:Satellite L500-1CQ PSLS0E - CD/DVD drive does not work - Driver problem?

Hi

To be honest I?m a little bit confused.
Are you not able to boot from ANY disks; Windows disk, recover disk, Linux disk???

If it?s the case, then this means that you CD/DVD drive is faulty.
Why? Because CD/DVD drive is recognized and controlled by BIOS while booting from CD or DVD.

When Windows operating system has booted up, then the CD/DVD drive should use the common Microsoft driver which is a part of the Windows OS.
This means that you don?t need to install ANY drivers in order to get the CD/DVD working.

If you can boot from any disk but if the CD/DVD drive is not recognized in MY Computer, then I recommend checking this:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/270008/en-us

Before you would delete the upper and lower filters from the registry, delete the CD/DVD drive from device manager and then go to registry and remove filters. Then reboot the unit.

Good luck

Hi there,

I reinstalled Windows 7 (from a Windows 7 disk not the Toshiba recovery files).
And everything was working fine, but after restarting once after some updates the mouse and keyboard stopped working!
I found I could get the keyboard to work by pushing the power button to send it to sleep then waking it up, but then the mouse still didn't work.
I can push F2 on the keyboard to get into the BIOS, but can't navigate in it (but can with a USB keyboard.)
Mouse and keyboard don't work in safe mode even.
USB keyboards and mice work fine all the time.

The laptop is a

I need a new keyboard for my L500 and found out, that the keyboad of the P200 (and some other models) seems to be the same (105 keys, num pad, 2 win keys). Are those keyboards 100% compatible or do they just look the same?

Answer:Satellite L500 and Satellite P200 - compatible keyboards?

Hi

In my opinion this question is for Toshiba service and not for user-to-user forum.

Anyway I think that both keyboards are not the same and you should order 100% identical keyboard designed for your notebook model.

Question is: why do you look for keyboards for old notebook models if you can order new one for L500.
On eBay you can get it quite affordable.

hi there!!

i had a toshiba satellite a300 that unfortunately died... i want to take the hard disk drive from it an put it on my cousin's toshiba satellite l500 laptop...
I siply put it to l500 but it stacks at a point that shows again and again something about media test and more...

What i'm supposed to do?
Te strange (to me that i'm not very computer guy) is that at bios setting shows the model of the hard disk...
I mean that the l500 recognises the drive...please help me...

thanks in advance..

Answer:HDD swop from Satellite A300 to Satellite L500

Hi

Satellite A300 supports the same HDD like a Satellite L500. Both use the SATA HDD therefore the inserted HDD should work.
Its good sign, that the HDD is visible in BIOS. This means that HDD is recognized and in good condition.

I?m wondering what you have done after the HDD has been inserted.
Did you try to install the system using Toshiba recovery disk or another disk?
Did you try to format the HDD firstly?

Try to boot form the system disk and format the HDD firstly.
Then follow with system installation

What type of ac adapter do you have, voltages and have you tried another type of ac adapter ?

I don't know for sure, but... it sounds like something is wrong with the ac jack.
Those can be replaced easily if you know how to solder, the part will cost less 7 dollars USA wise but shipping to you might be another issue due to your location.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite problem..

If you have or can get hold of a boot disk (Hiren's, UBCD, any live Linux distro or even a Windows install disk) you could try booting from it, to check whether it's a hardware failure (HDD could have failed or got disconnected) - assuming it's set up to boot from CD/DVD. Is it definitely F2 for setup? Some Satellites require holding Esc on start, then F1 when you get the Toshiba screen.

i have toshiba satellite pro m30 and HP scanjet 4600 scanner.when i connect the scanner directly to the notebok with its' original usb cable there is no problem. But if I connect the scanner to the notebook with a usb extension cable the notebook cannot initialize the scanner. If i connect the scanner to VAIO notebook with usb extension cable there is no problem. What can i do?

Answer:toshiba satellite pro m30 USB problem

Hi

could you describe the difference between the original USB cable and the USB extension cable?

The Notebook and Printer works properly with the original USB cable, but it seems that the USB extension cable is a low-cost one which does not accomplish the technical specifications and the Notebook have a problem with this issue.

For solving the problem in my opinion you could do a BIOS update, look if for your printer is a new driver available and reinstall the USB drivers!

Also you could test if with other USB cables the same problem occurs.

Hi, please help,
While sat using the laptop the other night i suddenly had a yellow box appear in the bottom right corner telling me that the USB device could not be recognised. At the time there was no device plugged into any of the ports. I tried to troubleshoot to see what was going on but nothing got resolved so i rebooted. Still happened after restart still with nothing plugged in.
I have tried everything i know to resolve this problem. Checked device manager, all 3 usb devices are saying that they are working correctly and there are no red or yellow marks next to them. I have uninstalled them and rebooted, same problem. Now none of the 3 ports will work at all. Tried various devices in each of them and nothing except for residule power that will turn power lights on if the device has one.
Not sure if this is linked but tried to enter bios just to check settings but what i know to be my password no longer works. I HAVE NOT changed it and nobody else has access to have altered it either. I have tried backdoor passwords and they wont let me in either.
Please help, this is driving me nuts.

My friend and I have the same computer. He's running XP Pro I have XP Home, but besides that same processors, HD, etc. His is having serious running problems. His major difference is that he runs AOL and all their junk, as well as their provided Virus Software, but this should not be slowing his computer soo much compared to mine.

His OE works every other time you try, (very suspicious) his wireless connection says "good" when it's sitting next to the modem, programs and folders and there then gone again. His Virus Software from AOL (McAfee?) doesn't seem to be working (big clue.)

I've just loaded and run AVP Free virus software and Spybot and haven't found any noticible viruses, spyware, but it seems as if there is something in there running background, hidden stuff that is using up his processor and connection access, when no software is reported to be running. It freezes a lot. He has 75% of his HD available & 1 GB RAM. We also just did a clean up and defragment. The clean-up doesn't seem to delete all the temp folder files - is that normal?

Could someone please take a look at this hijack file and let meknow if you see anything telling? I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks, sbrenusa

Hello all. This is my first post and may I say that I have enjoyed reading the other posts and replies. My problem is this: I have a Toshiba Satellite A10 laptop that is still under warrenty until January, 2005. For the last week or so, the fan has been making noise like the blades are hitting against something. I realize that this indicates that the fan is going out. I called Toshiba and they said I could send it in to them and they would replace it. Or I could take it to an authorized Toshiba repair center. Herein lies the problem. There are no authorized repair centers within a 100 mile radius of me (per the Toshiba representative) and I am not comfortable sending my laptop in as it has sensitive information concerning my job on it. I asked if he could just send me a new fan and I would replace it and you can guess what his response to that was. He said it would void my warrenty. I told him I didn't care if he would just send the fan. No dice. I have searched everywhere I can think of for a Toshiba fan and I cannot locate one. These are the numbers off of the current fan: 3910A; MCFTS6512M05; GDM610000126. If anyone has any idea where I can get this part I would appreciate it if you would let me know. Yes, I realize that this will void my warrenty, and like I told Toshiba, I don't care. I have too much information on this laptop to lose it because of a heat problem. Thank you in advance for any replies.

Hi,
I have a Toshiba Satellite A215-S4817 laptop, I tried to burn some backup data to a dvd-rw disc, it started to burn, but then I received an error saying the burn failed and the disc will be unusable again, then the drive opened. Ever since that, the drive won't detect any DVD's I put in, but CDs it will. Don't think the drive's faulty because I have the laptop for about 6 months, and had absolutely no problems with the drive whatsoever, ever. I have spent like 6 hours looking online for any solutions. The "great" thing is, I recently reinstalled Windows Vista, and haven't installed absolutely none of my programs yet, which are on backup DVDs. And now I'm bored. The drive shows up as "working" in the device manager. And the drive's seen in the My Computer. The drive's name is Pioneer DVD-RW DVR K17A ATA. Any suggestions on what to do, (other than replacement) because my parents had to spend like a $100 not too long ago on a display problem with the same laptop. (I'm having headaches with this laptop.)

Answer:Toshiba Satellite DVD-RW Drive problem...

A friends Toshiba Satellite P25-S5092 is failing to boot, Blue Screening with a "c0000218 Registry File Failure" error message. It is pretty clear his registry is messed up. I tried to boot it going to a previously good configuration, but that didn't work. Safe mode, of course, doesn't work either.

I wanted to back up the hard drive before going any further, and loaded an Acronis True Image Boot Disk into the CD/DVD drive. The boot bypassed the CD and attempted to load Windows. I opened Setup and made sure that the CD/DVD drive was the first boot option and tried again. Windows attempted to open. An internet search suggested that perhaps I should hold down the "c" key until the word "Toshiba" appeared on the screen. I did that, and again it was back to Windows.

I have also attempted to boot with a Windows XP Pro disk, Windows XP Pro SP2 Slipstream disk, and a Linux Boot Disk. These all fail and the computer attempts to boot to Windows.

Any suggestions? Thanks .

Anyone know why please and how to correct it? It didn't work with the electricity plugged in either and i thought it should have done so why not?
Many thanks in advance

Answer:Battery problem with Toshiba Satellite A 300-1mc

I appears you have may have a faulty battery. It is either not holding the charge or not charging properly. Switch off and remove the battery then connect the Adaptor/charger and try it again.

Hi there!

I have a Toshiba Satellite L650 and I just can't turn it on.

When I push the power button, it turns on and then it goes off in a few seconds.

The screen doesn't show anything.

Is it the power supply? What can I do?

Thank you so much!

Merry Christmas!

Hi, Folks - I'm New, here...

I recently bought a new Toshiba Satellite P105 pre-loaded with Vista.

We use a proprietary system at work that connects through a VPN and our server would not acknowledge Vista, so I immediately re-formatted and loaded XP Pro.

I managed to get all of my drivers for every device except sound. The PC has a Toshiba V92 modem connected to a high-def audio bus with Harmon Kardon speakers.

I can't seem to find the correct drivers for my sound.

Anyone else experienced this? Any help in solving my delimma?

I've spent hours at Toshiba's support site.

Dave

Answer:Sound Problem- Toshiba Satellite

Hi, Dave, and welcome to TSF!

Have you tried using a generic driver? Go into device manager and see if your audio chipset shows up there with a yellow ! next to it. If it does, run the add new hardware wizard and have it select a driver for it automatically.

I have moved you to Windows XP support.

Model A35-S159. After installing a new battery, and getting a new power supply, sometimes, but not always, the battery discharges while on AC. The AC light stays on while the battery discharges. The battery always recharges when I turn the laptop off.

Sometimes I can turn it on and it won't discharge while on AC. Other times I turn it on and it immediately starts discharging. I can tell because the orange/green charge light doesn't come on. And still other times, it will stay at 100% charged on AC, and then suddenly, for no apparent reason, the charge light goes off and it starts discharging.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Battery Problem

Good Evening petef, the batteries in these machines contain sensitive intelligent circuitry that often need a special charging routine procedure when they are replaced.

This battery circuitry requires to be accepted by the machine when a battery is replaced, this is to realign the battery condition and charge schedule with the actual computer.

It may be worth your while asking Toshiba about this problem directly.

Others may have different ideas.

Hi!

I have a TOSHIBA notebook Satellite P10, Windows XP.

It is a new computer, not second hand!
The problem is that it shuts down itself when I connect it to the AC adapter.

The only way I can work is charging it while it is off and then using it while on battery.

The problem appeared after 20 days I bought it.
I sent it to the TOSHIBA service, they updated the BIOS, it worked perfectly for 5 hours (connected to the AC adapter) and then the same problem appeared.

Do you have any suggestions?
I am looking forward to your replies!

Christina

Answer:Notebook Toshiba Satellite P10 problem!!!!

Hi Christina,

Does your notebook powwer itself down suddenly or does it do a controlled shutdown ? What happens when you try to power on your notebook when the AC adapter is connected ?

Have a Toshiba Satellite 2435-S255. Installed a mini WiFi card from Broadcom that's 802.11b/g capable. This came out of another laptop of mine and I know it works and it's hardly been used.

I cannot connect to my WiFi router. I'm confident that I have the antenna corrections installed correctly. I have the switch set to on for WiFi on the side of the laptop. I've checked the Device Manager and the Broadcom Network Adapter is listed and shown as working properly. I do have MAC filtering setup on the router but I did get the MAC off of the mini WiFi and have triple check that it was entered correctly into the router. Using a DLink DI-784 which I've had no problems with my other laptop.

Any ideas? Installing this card in my girlfriends Toshiba so I can get her online.

Answer:WiFi problem with Toshiba Satellite

First thing you should do is turn MAC filtering off and any other security measures you have in place, encryption for instance. You should try the card in another laptop if possible. Are you using the utility that came with the card or XP wireless ocnfig utility? What is happening? No AP when you scan from the client? In other words, give some more details about your experirence other than it isn't working.

I am having the same, or a very similar problem, as that discussed in an earlier (closed) thread on this subject. I am trying to help a friend who has a Satellite A15 that went 'dead'. She only uses it to play DVDs, and the first problem she noticed was that a DVD disc would not eject. She got the disc out by using a paperclip in the manual eject pinhole, but the computer would not start up afterwards. With the power pack plugged in, I get a steady green power light and a battery charge status light (solid amber at first and solid green later on after the battery charges). When I press the 'ON' button, the 'ON' light comes on, green and steady, but there are no other signs of life - - - no video, no sound (beep codes or otherwise), no lights on the keyboard (such as the caps lock key), and the CD drive will not eject a disc electrically. After a couple of minutes, the cooling fan comes on and is really noisy. The hard disk checks okay externally. Can anybody advise me how to proceed?? Thanks in advance........GHS

I have a Toshiba Satellite M35X-S109 that my boyfriend's dad gave me. He said he thinks the battery shorted out (the laptop won't run off of battery power). I used the recovery disk to reset the computer to original condition but now when I turn it on, it will load windows... think a few seconds and load windows again. It never gets to the login screen or anything like that. Any ideas? Much appreciated!

Welcome to the forum and sorry for the late reply Right you used the recovery disk when the battery died, what made you choose this course of action as there was no need to wipe the hard drive back to stock? Was it misadventure or had the computer become unstable?

Usually in this situation you would hit F8 and choose last known good configuration or safe mode and correct the problem you had just encountered, try last know good configuration I doubt it will work because you don't have a previous 'good' configuration, you can try safe mode to see if the computer gets into windows but we're unsure what to fix.

Since you have no important files to loose I'd check your recovery disk is clean and run it again as it sounds like something has become corrupt on the reinstall, try twice see if it stalls in the same place.

Failing any of these options something could have been damaged in the "short out" more info on what happened would be helpful.

This is a problem that I have to admit is completely new to me, hopefully one of you guys may have some experience.
When booting up it stops responding, to continue boot up you just need to move the mousepad or press a key, you may need to do this many times to get it to eventually boot into windows XP. Once it has booted into windows it seems to work fine, the only other problem I have noticed is that 3 keys have stopped working, A,S and Z, which I am sure are unconnected with this problem.
Anyone any ideas?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite boot up problem

Do you have a lot of dust, dirt, and hair in the cpu fan, keyboard, etc.
The Satellite is a pretty decent laptop, but the original hard drive seems to fail a bit early... Open the case to see which brand and model of the hard drive, then go to that manufactures web site (unless it is Toshiba) and run the drive fitness test.
As far as I know, the Toshaba drives do not yet have a drive fitness test, but Toshiba is as likely to use Western Digital, Hitachi, Seagate, Samsung, or Fujitsu... as their own.

I shut down my computer last night before I went to sleep just like I always do. Woke up this morning and turned it on and its showing a "Negative Film" type of display. I haven't done anything to it over the past day that would change a setting like that and I haven't been able to figure out the source of the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, I'm new here and better say " Hello " first!!
My girlfriend dropped her thermos on her laptop (see above) last week and wound up with a black screen and the dreaded "Check cable connection!" PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel PXE ROM "Reboot and select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected device"
So I went into DOS Setup Utility.
Went to "BOOT" and 1.HDD?SSD showed NO harddrive.
Waited patently for a new online purchased harddrive (a little smaller then original...500gb) to arrive and installed it today.
Now the Utility is showing that it recognizes it.
Tried to to use the Toshiba Restore disc we burned upon purchase and also the three cd System discs with zero results.
Went back into the laptop, removed the bottom and checked all connections and cleaned contacts at harddrive, cmos bat., Cd etc.
Entered the Utility again and see:
1. HDD/SSD WDC WD5000BPUT
2. USB Blank
3.ODD MatshitaDVD-Ram
4.LAN Atheros Boot Agent
All of the data on the old harddrive has been saved so we agree to just try to restore this puppy back to factory specs on the new harddrive but obviously it appears more troublesome than just popping in the new unit.
Of course this laptop is out of warrenty and being on a limited budget I hate to tell her to continue throwing more money into it, motherboard...cd reader...etc.
I've read several (hours and hours) threads and suggestions on downloading software uti... Read more

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Pro C850 problem

Greetings, mendoAu, and welcome to MajorGeeks.

Nice first post - very informative. Thank you.

This might turn out to be a tough one without the ability to burn bootable disks. If you reorder your start menu to ODD MatshitaDVD-Ram first can you boot to any of the Toshiba disks?

Be patient - I'm sure other MGs will jump in with suggestions.

Hi Everyone

I have a Toshiba Satellite P200 and there is a problem with the Display , it works and it does not work .

I have done some checks ,the backlight is on , and it works ok with a second monitor .

The question I really want to ask is , where is the switch or contact on the Lid or body of the Laptop that shuts down the screen when I close the Lid , I have the Laptop stripped down and I can not see anywhere , where there is some sort of contact mechanical or magnetic between the Lid and Palm rest .

I thought that there me have been something where the Lid Latches close but can not see anything around there .
I know there must be something that puts the laptop into Hibernate when I close the Lid , but what and where is the sensor or whatever located .

cheers

Okay,

I have the laptop over a year now, and I was running Windows Vista on it...
Then the laptop decided it wont shut down, it says shutting down, then the screen goes blank... and does nothing.
Waited hours, nothing.

So I format the laptop, and freshly install Windows 7...

Exact same problem, it doesn't sleep or anything just hangs there....
Starting up is also a problem, sometimes it says Windows Loading...

And thats it, nothing after that... I have to keep holding the power button down and trying until it starts

Any help?

Hi! So I've been constantly getting this notifications from Toshiba Tempro saying that I haven't read some messages. It said that I hadn't read two messages (one from April, the other from May), but I had. No matter how many times I opened Tempro and read the messages, it kept saying that I hadn't.

A few days ago, I apparently received another one, and now it says that I have one message to read (so I suppose that it marked the other two as read).

I have trying disabling Toshiba Tempro, but it starts up again every time I restart my laptop. I don't think that this is because the computer (a Satellite P50-C) is not working correctly, because it's only a few months old (I bought it in April).

How do I mark those messages as read?

If this is not possible, how do I permanently disable Toshiba Tempro?
