Preferred Solution: deactivate windows 7 in order to reinstall on another PC

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: deactivate windows 7 in order to reinstall on another PC

Welcome
You must uninstall Pro by installing another OS over it or format it
Then just install in the new computer.
You can install as many times as you like but one computer at a time.

I recently bought an Lenovo u410. I tried to reinstall windows 7 but none of my drivers showed up, so i went into the bios and changed the hdd mode from raid to compatible and it worked but when I tried to install the raid drivers so i can use the caching ssd but it fails and i keep in an bsod boot loop. Then I tried to set the hdd mode back to raid and intall the raid driver beforte  the windows 7 installer so I can see my drivers but when It's finished i also get an bsod. Eventually I gave up and recoverd with the lenovo one recovery. Does anyone have instructions how to reinstall windows 7?

Answer:Fresh Reinstall order Windows 7

Hi ,

Welcome To Lenovo Community

You have to install RAID drivers before switching to RAID in the bios
For installing windows you have to include Intel Rapid Storage driver on intall.
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&ProdId=2101&DwnldID=21730&ProductFamily=Chips...
Download and extract the
f6flpy-x64.zip (for 64bit windows)
or
f6flpy-x86.zip (for 32bit windows)
in a folder on the flash drive.
When installing try advanced mode and load drivers button. Search the folder on the flash where you have extracted the files, and after that you should see the hard disk in the installer.

I read some guides that tell you to go into your bios when your pc starts up and make sure the cd-rom drive is listed before the hdd in the boot sequence. I did this, but it turns out my reinstallation disc is a dvd. Therefore, it didn't work in the cd-rom drive. I then put it in the dvd rom drive and tryed to get it to detect it first that way, but that didnt work either becase the dvd-rom drive isn't even listed in the boot sequence devices. I'm positive the dvd-rom drive doesn't count under the usb/cd-rom choice as I went into boot setup and tried to make it boot from there, and that did not work. What do I do?

Answer:Trying to reinstall windows in order to format hdd, help

I may be wrong but hit F10 after the BIOS screen flashes and I think that you can select to boot from CD/DVD... I'm not too sure though....

1) My desktop takes forever to boot up, then after being on 5 minutes it reboots itself so I am unable to run utilities or virus scans. I have the Dell Reinstallation CD, + the Dell Drivers and Utilities cd, however I can't even get into Boot Options to change the boot order to cd drive The System32 files are damaged, + the windows installer is corrupt. What to do now?
2) In the past I have used a special cable to connect defective hard drive to a functioning pc and use it's OS to run scans and remove viruses from the defective drive. But I don't know how using this method would help if the problem with defective drive is damaged or missing system files. Ie. I do not know how to repair these files while the defective hard drive is connected to another functioning pc OS. Any thoughts on this?

3) One other concern, there is a product key # label on the Dell case, however as I recall this rarely matches the product key in the machine (in BIOS or hard drive???) . I'm wondering if I will have trouble activating the OS if I only have product key on outside of case?

Answer:Can't change boot order to use Dell Reinstall DVD

1) system32 nowt to do with bios if having issues entering bios then will need to reset it by taking battery out for a minute
you can not do anything else till you fix the boot order but obviously you could attempt a safe mode approach pressing f8 repeatedly on start up
2) access your comp with a lynx live disc
3) this should be ok even if you have to go down the phone microsoft route

I need the correct driver install order, on a clean install of windows 7 ultimate. I have read some other recommended driver install orders, but am unsure. I have reinstalled windows 3 times since my purchase, due to virus, and other system (hdd drive) problems.  On my previous install i had one hell of a time, deciding which drivers were needed, and which were messing with the system. I am using all drivers for win 7 64 bit off of this download page.  http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/in/en/DriversDownLoads/APR_Driver_List.aspx?CategoryID=955740&OS=0 Thanks again. Dailey

Answer:LENOVO Y460 Drivers Reinstall Order

you can install the drivers the order as download page listed the drivers.
( just install power management before network drivers )
you can skip the softwares if you don't want to use them.

Have a Lenovo H420 desktop that was upgraded about 2 months ago. We backed up everything and want to reinstall Windows 7.

But I can find no way to get into the Setup screen. I've gone to Settings, Update & Security, Advanced Startup and Restart Now. But I have no option to Use a Device. If I choose Troubleshoot then Advanced Options, the subsequent screen has no option for UEFI Firmware Settings.

I've disabled Fast Boot through Power Options in the Control Panel, then tried F2 and the Delete key when starting. Nothing...

The fact that I can't do something that was so easy in Windows 7 is enough reason in itself to remove 10. Throw in the fact that the scanner part of my printer no longer works is just icing on the cake. I have the Windows 7 disk. I just can't figure out how to use it.

The Windows Photo Viewer will not display photos in the order they are sorted by Windows Explorer.
This is not referring to the slide show feature, just the forward and back arrows.
The only order pictures can be viewed is by name despite Windows Explorer being set at view by date, ascending.
I have repaired Microsoft Live Essentials, uninstalled and reinstalled but the issue remains.
This is also not an issue with photo tags or photo names.
Windows Explorer sorts as selected but click a picture in the middle to view, click the forward arrow and instead of the next date picture being viewed, the next name picture is viewed.

Answer:Windows Photo Viewer; sorting order not the same as view order

Hi!

I upgraded to Windows 10 recently as well, I have the same problem and I also have a solution. However, I do not know, if it is ideal. :-)

What is obviously missing is an entry in the registry called DropTarget. This entry tells Windows Photo Viewer to display the images in the sorting order of the folder Photo Viewer got called from.

Non-solution:
I saw that at least in my registry there is a DropTarget defined in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\photoviewer.dll\shell\open\DropTarget. From the name of the key and from reading the docs this looks as if it would be applied to all calls to this program, but -if that actually is the case- for me this entry does not work. It has been there (at least) after my Windows 10 upgrade, also the "Clsid"="{FFE2A43C-56B9-4bf5-9A79-CC6D4285608A}" seems to be fine, but it does not do the job.

Solution:
For me, this problem was present for jpg and png files, but not for bmp, dib, gif, jfif and what else can be opened with Windows Photo Viewer. To fix this, I have added the following to the Windows Registry:

Code:
[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\jpegfile\shell\open\DropTarget]
"Clsid"="{FFE2A43C-56B9-4bf5-9A79-CC6D4285608A}"

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\pngfile\shell\open\DropTarget]

I have windows 10 on my macbook pro. However im selling my machine and wish to deactivate the key so i can activate it on my replacement machine. How would one go about that? The key is a windows 8 key that i had bought and it was upgraded from 8 to 10. Thanks

Answer:Deactivate windows 10

I may be wrong, but I do not think Microsoft allows you to remove Windows from one machine and transfer it to another. Not for an upgrade from an OEM version. When you upgrade, the new version now becomes part of the original OEM license.  If you want a portable version of Windows 10, you must buy Windows 10 at the full price. This question also comes up when one wants to transfer Microsoft Office to another computer. You can do so only under certain conditions. Read this article:Transfer license to a new computer The principal would apply to the Windows OS also. You do not get a free lunch. Yes you will have to call Microsoft. But heed a warning. If you tell them you are taking it from your current rig and placing it on your new rig they wont do it. Tell them your hard drive crashed.

Answer:Deactivate windows 8 pro

You will need to do a clean install of Windows 8 HP.

   Information

We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.
Recovery Drive - Create with USB Flash Drive in Windows 8
System Repair Disc - Create in Windows 8

Did you make the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks?

You can order OEM Recovery disks from your OEM manufacturer's website.

I would like to re-install my WinXP Pro on my main machine, but I'm afraid Microsoft won't let me. Is there a way to deactivate this copy so it stops working, reformat, and reinstall and then activate with Microsoft and show them that it's the same computer?

Macromedia already does this with their MX 2004 products. Does Microsoft do this, also?

Thanks!

Nope. Just re-install, and if activation fails, call the number and say "I had to reinstall."

All there is to it (although having to go through the automated process when you know you've gotta talk to a human is annoying).

As part of an attempt to not have to buy a new laptop, I am taking this hard drive (hdd A for referrence) out of my computer and hooking it up to my laptop via a firewire external enclosure, and hooking up my old hdd (hdd b) back to this computer. My question, hdd A has xp installed, but since im hooking it up to my laptop, i dont need it to have windows on it...is there anyway to remove windows without having to lose my data (i.e. video/music files?) Or if i want to format B and put the windows from A back onto it (i know..this is getting confusing) :-D Basically, is there a way to deactivate the windows on hdd a so i can use it on hdd b?

Answer:deactivate windows?

If you want to have the drive as a secondary, you can just do so. You’ll be able to access all you files from it on the laptop! Windows wont run from the secondary drive, “slave”. As far as I know, you'll run into problems configuring XP to a new hardware set! That if it can be done at all.

----I know the specs say Windows 7, sorry, I didn't see that until after I posted the question.-----I upgraded my computer to Windows 8 about 3 months ago. It's a relatively new computer, runs games well, etc (although I don't see how that could be relevant, thought I should state it anyhow). Recently, a dialog has been popping up on my screen (takes up the whole screen) that says something along the lines of "Click on PC Settings to activate Windows." My copy is legit, I upgraded from Win7 and everything has worked fine until this point. I tried to click "activate," but after doing so, a loading indicator appeared that bore the title "checking this key" and would then go away, doing nothing. I've had to wait up to 3 hours in numerous situations for the "activate" button to successfully activate windows. This confuses me because I activated windows when I upgraded, so why would it randomly deactivate and then not be able to reactivate for a while? Also, when it becomes deactivated, a watermark reading "Windows 8 Pro - Build 9200" appears on the bottom right of both my screens. even after I reactivate, it won't go away until I restart. I read a few places about some sort of command prompt for inputting the key, but it didn't work. I am the only one who uses my computer, fyi. Any help would be appreciated!

Answer:Windows 8 will randomly deactivate on my PC

Open Services Console ( services.msc ) and check if Software Protection service is disabled. If it is, put it on Automatic ( Delayed Start ). Restart your PC and see if this helps.A virus may also be causing this situation.Other than this, how did you obtain Windows 8 licence ? A call to Microsoft may be in order.CoolGuy

Don't have any deactivations and I updated two machines. However I did get office issues as posted here: Office 365 and updates but that my thread.

Are you sure your copy of Windows was/is legit? I'd imagine it'll only deactivate if the copy is pirated or has never been registered. My guess.

For the past 15 years I built up a file using cardfile.. It is a very old windows program.
Cardfile has been working up until a few days ago.

When I click on my shortcut to cardfile it now goes to Window Cardspace. I somehow must have unintentionally activated Windows Cardspace.

Window Cardspace has wiped out all of the data on cardfile. (I have backups of the data on cardfile but somehow when I try to restore cardfile.exe, it goes to Windows Cardspace and it does not recognize the data. All get is a blank card.

When I go to the control panel and try to remove “Windows Cardpace” the program does not appear.
Windows Cardspace appears as a separate icon on the control panel. That is, it does not appear in the Control Panel and therefore I cannot remove or de-activate it.

Would anyone please tell me how I can get rid of Windows Cardspace.

I have 3 displays attached to my WINXP home system. The windows will de-activate randomly. By deactivate, I mean the active bar at the top of the window will dim
and the task block at the bottom of the window will dim also. I have to mouse click the window to make it active again. This happens randomly.... even if I am keying into an application such as EMAIL or my word processor. This also happened when I had only ONE display attached.

I have automatic updates enabled so I believe my software is up to date.

Thanks

Answer:Application windows deactivate randomly.

Something else is trying to take focus of your window - possibly something running in the background or system tray. Try running Ad-Aware or Spybot and remove whatever they find, as well as doing a virus scan.

I've tried to do some googling on how to do this but nothing was exactly what I was looking for and it all sounded overly complex. Here is my situation:

I am currently running Windows 7 with one hard drive (C).

I have bought all the components for a whole new build. New motherboard bigger HDD a SSD etc. Also Windows 8.

So what I want to do is to plug my current C hard drive into the new computer such that I keep all my files and installed programs but without Windows 7 conflicting with the new Windows 8 that will be installed on the SSD.

So what is the easiest way to do this? If it helps, I'd be satisfied just to deactivate Windows 7 even if I can't recover the space for a while. Also, I need to keep the current hard drive named "C" to prevent conflict with the installed programs, right?

CasualRisk Hello;Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!I read your post about your Win10 activation question and wanted to help. In Win10, the product key is stored in the UEFI firmware of the motherboard.  Since you're not changing that, you're not going to risk deactivating it. Furthermore, the activation key is stored on the MS Activation servers, and that information is NOT tied to the HDD or SDD that you are using.  I can confirm this because once I got Win10 working the way I wanted, I migrated it from an HDD to an SDD and nothing changed -- except the performance got a lot better! Good Luck========================================================================I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor do I represent, HP.---------------------------------------------------------------If my posts helped you, please click the Thumbs-Up symbol to say thanks. If my posts solved your problem please click "Accept As Solution".========================================================================

There's nothing you can do to reset how many times you have activated with your product key number. That information is held and controlled by the Microsoft activation servers.

Formating the computer will remove the key number from that computer. You could also use the tutorial below to remove a key number from a computer without formatting it. This still doesn't change what's on the MS activation servers though.

Product Key Number - Uninstall and Deactivate in Windows

Hope this helps,

Hi all,

I bought the Family Pack (3 computer license) when it was first commercially available. I initially installed one license each on my new desktop computer and a Toshiba notebook. Much later I installed the third license on my home theater computer.

Now, I would like to deactivate Windows 7 on the Toshiba notebook and go back to the factory install of Vista prior to selling it. Then, I want to BootCamp that license on my MacBook Pro.

Is Microsoft notified in some way that an install has been deactivated? Will the activation on the MacBook installation be painless?

I have no problem with phone activation, but not doing anything special aside from typing in the key helps to keep life dull and boring.

Kent

Answer:Windows 7 Family Pack - Deactivate one installation

You may have to call in next time you use the key, but so long as it's legitimate and only on one machine you shouldn't have trouble getting it activated again.
They may make you call it in during activation because they will register the change in hardware profile connected to the key you have.

They aren't ridiculously tight about it like they were with xp, but they will want to ensure the key is only in use on ONE MACHINE.

Since I installed a new printer, my computer (Windows XP Home, SP2), while booting, displays a welcome page on which I have to click on my name (I don't have to type in a password since I don't have one) in order to access Windows. I find it a nuisance and would like to deactivate it so that the computer boots and loads Windows without me having to click first. How do I do so? Also, I am afraid of getting locked out of my computer if I fumble around with the user account settings. I am the only user of the computer.

Hi all,

Just contemplating the new Windows 10 upgrade. A bit hesitant, but I'm always one to try new things.

My question is that if I do run the upgrade to Win10 and don't like it, can I go back to Win7 using my old Serial Key, or does that key reassign to Win10 and am I stuck with 10?

Also, is it better to just hit the upgrade button, or should I format/reinstall 7 to a fresh install, then do the upgrade?

Thanks!
Joe

I followed this tutorial: Product Key Number - Uninstall and Deactivate in Windows
on my netbook so I can use the copy of Windows on my new laptop. Does using the command shown in the tutorial somehow send a "signal" to Microsoft letting them know the key was deactivated?

I had no issues in activating Windows on the laptop, I'm just curious.

Answer:uninstall/deactivate Windows key tutorial question

Please notice, the below is just how I have understood this and how Microsoft phone support has it explained for me. It must not be factual information, however I have used this method successfully. I have had two times a situation where activation on a new computer has failed first but worked on another try when the key was first uninstalled on old computer.

First, be sure you are online. Get your activation ID on "old" PC with slmgr /dlv:
Now run the uninstall command with your activation ID on an elevated command prompt:
As far as I have understood this, running the uninstall command without activation ID only removes the product key from local Windows setup. To "release" the product key completely you need to add the activation ID.

Hey,

I just bought my first ever laptop and went with the Qosmio X500/02M.
Am having a bit of trouble adjusting to the keyboard layout at the moment after years of desktop and normal keyboard use.

I seem to have trouble epsecially with the Windows Logo Key while i'm gaming in that i keep hitting it and getting popped out to the desktop.
Have looked in all the places i can think of to disable this key, does anyone know of a way i can do this so i dont have to resort to actually popping the button out of the keyboard itself ?

Answer:How to deactivate Windows Key on Qosmio X500 while gaming?

Hi Tom

I have noticed the same but I really don't know if there is a way to deactivate Windows key. Due to this I moved ?moving controls buttons? from A, D... keys to arrow keys.

I have a x61 thinkpad with Vista. Recently I installed Win 7 via a bootable USB stick. For this I had to set the boot menu so that the computer starts from the USB stick. After installing Win 7 I reset the Boot order to default. Now everytime I start my computer a boot selection appears:1. Win 7 Professional2. Windows Setup (EMS aktiviert) This is very annoying as I dont want to enter the windows setup. How can I deactivate this selection so that the computer directly starts Win 7 without entering the boot menu? Thanks for any help!

I reformat my laptop, however i used a downloaded version of Windows 7 cracked (which is not genuine). When i bought my laptop it comes with a product license, and i wrote it down before i reformat. Now i cant seem to find where i should enter the product key. I think it was disabled or something because the copy is cracked. Even in My Computer>Properties the genuine logo is nowhere to be found. I went to this site www.microsoft.com/genuine/validate/ and tried validating but upon scanning it suddenly stops and got an error. What i want is to make sure that my pc is telling me that my windows 7 copy is genuine since my pc should be. So is there a certain software to uncrack or deactivate this copy of windows so that i can enter my product key or is there another workaround.

Hi everyone,I want to remove everything from my computer, wipe it totally clean and reinstall Vista from the installation disk, and I've been having some problems.I first tried booting the disk from the desktop, and when it asked me which partition I'd like to use (I only have the one) I chose the one that the current VIsta install is on, thinking it would overwrite it, wiping out all those files. But its telling me I don't have enough disk space to do that (theres only about 10 gb left of harddrive space). So then I changed the boot sequence and rebooted directly from the Vista disk, thinking from there I could delete the partition and reinstall. But the only options it gives me are to do a system restore or restore from a backup. So basically I just want to completely wipe everything off my computer, then insert the Vista disk and install Vista. I have everything I need already backed up on an external. Can anyone tell me how to delete my entire OS?Thanks,Nick

Hi,I've an approved RMA for full refund for an X230 that I'd purchased from Depot. The restocking fee was waived as I'd ordered another X230 (better EPP deal).I shipped back the unopened X230 and Lenovo acknowledged the receipt of the laptop on Feb 5. And since then there has been no update on my refund. I was told it would take 6 business days for the refund to be posted back to my account. Now it's over 2 weeks and when I contacted post sales support - this is the reply I got from them: *************Hi,We regret to inform you that i am unable to get any information on this order, I am still working on your order. Once we get the information on the refund i will keep you updated on the same For further assistance please feel free to email me back and i will be glad to assist you Regards *************So what are my options now. An answer like "i am unable to get any information on this order" from customer care themselves doesn't really inspire confidence with Lenovo. The second X230 that I'd ordered, has issues with the IPS display having a yellow tint and the touchpad being super jumpy. Had sent it to their repair center who unfortunately were not able to see the problems at first but later accepted the problem with the touchpad alone and they're getting the laptop re-imaged. Display is as designed according to them. They're sending it back now. Will wait and see. If I still see the display problem, will get it returned. Thank you Lenovo, for that amazing buyi... Why does it say that I will receive the laptop 2 weeks from now when it says that I should expect it within 1-3 days?

Answer:Dell site says XPS 15 gets delivered in 1-3 days, the order date for my order is 2 weeks from now...

Generally when that happens there has been a burst of orders, or there is a part on back order and the sales site hasn't been updated yet.  The delivery times are just estimates and could be sooner or later depending on various conditions.

This is my Order Number: 2FFVLJI've always owned a Thinkpad for the past 10 years and am a staunch Thinkpad fan.  The R60 and Z60m have been reliable and faithful companions.  I have been recommending Thinkpad to my colleagues and friends.  Hence when I needed a new laptop, I went directly to lenovo's site and ordered a T510 (Web Special) on 4th August 2010 using a valid credit card.  For two days the status was "in process".  On Aug 6th, I was unable to login in usng the cust no and order no to see the status.  When I called the sales customer service, I was informed that the order was cancelled from lenovo's side.  They pointed me to the credit card department for further information.  When I called the credit card department, they claimed information mismatch as the reason for the cancellation but they could not point out what exactly was the mismatch.  I can assure you that the card is valid.  Currently I'm not able to place another order for the same model from lenovo's site as it is no longer available.  This is very regretful as I was really looking forward to getting my laptop of choice.  I tried calling the sales dept but they are not available as it is weekend now (everyone needs a break )  So I have emailed them for help.  I'm yet to get a response.  This has been a nail biting experience.  I'm anxiously waiting for the response from the sales dept.   Will it be possibl... Question: deactivate?

I have been trying to resurect a Dell XPS1340 that suffers from lockups. I successfully installed Win8 Pro on an SSD on that laptop. Now, I am tired of messing with it and want to pull the SSD and install it in another machine with the Windows 8. So, how do I move my license off the laptop I am about to trash? I figure there is also a chance that it will carry over since I am using the same hard drive...

Hi,
To test out Vmware Fusion (a virtual PC) on my Mac I installed an Dell OEM version of XP Home SP2 which I have now gone and accidently activated. Is there a way to deactivate it and will my activation of it in anyway compromise the running of XP on the Dell it is meant to go on?

Cheers!

Answer:Can you deactivate XP?

I would try to just install it on the Dell and see if it lets you. If not, I think you can still call MS and re-activate over the phone (and tell them you had only tested it in a virtual machine). I'm not sure if they still do this though, and I would imagine that as time goes on and support for XP is dropped, you'll see gaining acceptance of the various methods of circumventing the Windows Product Application (WPA) in cases where you would otherwise have no choice but to buy another copy of a soon-to-be-unavailable product.

Question: Deactivate Vista

So before I install Windows 7, do I need to deactivate Vista so I can install it again if I wanted to or if there was to be a problem with my W7 file?

Just that some other pieces of software like Photoshop reccommend that you deactivate software before getting rid of it so you can use the product key again if you wanted to reinstall it.

Answer:Deactivate Vista

No. Not Vista. MS will "deactivate" it the next time it is installed - under some circumstances.

Hello,

*first post in the forum - I hope this is the right place :X*

A month ago I had a problem with my Hard Drive and it had to be replaced. The computer guy backed up the files from my old HD on the new one although all software were deleted in the process.

Before the back up i had a working Flash CS3 copy installed but since my harddrive was malfunctioning I couldn't deactivate the Flash CS3 account before "uninstalling" the software. I've been trying to re-install the software now that my computer is back from the shop, and the installation goes well, but as soon as the software launches it crushes and give me a "Send an error report" window. When I try to Deactivate the account (from the Help menu) it fails and tell me I can keep on working flash on my comp - although it crushes as soon as I try to open a new project.

I'm afraid that the "account file" still exists but is corrupted by the file copy from one hard drive to another - and there for Flash opens and crushes but doesn't have enough access to the file for deactivating it.

I need help in finding and deactivating / deleting that file manually. I've installed Flash CS4 trail version - but that has the same problem with that corrupted file.

I'm running:
Win XP SP3
Intel Pentium 4 2.6ghz
2gb RAM.

I've tried deleting Flash and running CCleaner to clean my registry - but that didn't work. I'm really clueless and would appreciate any help!

Thanks,

Try searching the registry for entries regarding flash. You also can try searching on the name of the flash exe file. Then simply remove any references to flash.

**NOTE - create a System Restore point before making any Registry changes...just in case.

Answer:deactivate vista

Are you putting the same hard drive in the new build? If you bought retail you would simply reinstall Windows. With one type of OEM type disk that stays with one machine. If you buy a prebuilt or have one made for you and the dealer includes a Windows disk that would stay with that one system there.

Nopdb was using too much resources (90%++.)

Using services, I set speed disk services to disabled.

Problem DCOM caused BSoD because it could not launch speed disk.

Setting speed disk to manual - I find that speed disk is automatically started in spite of the MANUAL setting.

PITA to have to stop it all the time.

What is a happy solution to this problem?

Speed disk disabled = BSoD
Speed disk manual = automatic restart with 90-100% resources used.

I'm working with a problem with an application. The problem appears to be that a DLL is getting loaded into memory (cached) upon the first run of a particular process. Because of the nature of the process, though, this is not a good thing. Every subsequent run of the same process fails then because it appears that the DLL is already memory resident.

I seem to remember seeing somewhere that Windows 2000 (which is the OS I'm working with) cache's DLL's and that there is some way to turn off that capability.

Anyone?

Answer:Deactivate DLL Cache

The size of the dllcache can be controlled by Group Policy, and even set to "0". But these dll's are cached on the hard-drive and not in memory.

Most programs that have an "unload dll's directly" option, such as CacheMan or X-Setup allow that option only for 9x.

A few days ago I reinstalled vista because some drivers weren't working and when I did so I made the dumb assumption that vistas would already be active since that is what would happen before on the only other computer I had which was running windows 98. So since reinstalling I have gotten this pop up which tells me that I have 30 days to activate windows to continue using its features. So now the question is, is there a way to prove that I am using one product key on only one machine? When I enter my product key it tells me it isn't valid, so I am guessing its because I forgot to deactivate it before reinstalling.

Answer:Deactivate product key

If the product key isn't accepted it's either not the proper key for the version of Vista you have or it's being entered incorrectly. If after the key is entered the system fails to activate you can re-activate over the phone using the automated system.

I reformatted my PC a couple of days ago and it was fine for awhile then after sitting idle for awhile the log in screen came on. Now it happens when I sit here for a couple of minutes. I found a way to turn it off when I first bought the PC, now my notes do not work. I have found all kinds of ways for turning it on, but nothing to shut the display off permanently and I know it can be done. I have screen saver set to none, sleep and hibernate set to never. any suggestions.

Answer:Deactivate the log in screen

Hello Vala, and welcome to Seven Forums.

It sounds like you may need to double check and make sure that the On resume, display logon screen box is unchecked in Screen Saver Settings. Even with "(None)" selected for the screen saver, it will still go to the log on screen after X idle minutes if this box is checked.

Hope this helps,

You do have Pirate copy albeit that it has been activated. There is no way to deactivate it and if your friend needs to activate it in order to use it he will need to contact Microsoft for an additional license in order to make it legal.

My Dell desktop runs XP Pro. My Dell laptop also runs XP Pro. For some reason my laptop hard drive got corrupted and/or wiped virtually clean, and the computer will not boot. Unfortunately, I don't have a reinstallation disk for the laptop.

I was thinking of using the desktop's reinstallation CD to load Windows onto the laptop. But then I remembered reading something about the activation process for XP, and am worried that if I then have 2 computers with XP loaded from the same disk, Microsoft will somehow pick up on this and deactivate one or both.

Technically, I'll have 2 XP installations after having paid for 2 separate versions and licenses, but I don't know if Microsoft would buy this, especially since I don't have the receipt for the laptop (it's 6 yrs old).

Is my concern justified, or just unnecessary worry? I'd hate to be sitting with 2 unusable computers?

Answer:deactivate kernel debugger

Hi Rheanun -Daemon Tools Forum here have a long discussion about that particular item -It seems that M/soft updates ?? may be the fault - There are 7 pages of information involved so it is too much to list here -You are better off reading it yourself and seeing if any of the ideas will help you -Thank You -

Hi

I own an old Toshiba A10 notebook. I don't use it because of the very noisy fan. I would like to completely deactivate the fan(s). That will enable me to use the notebook on lower cpu clock speed. I full well know that the fan(s) are important for the cooling of the cpu and harddisk. However, I am not seeking advice or recomendations on how to limit or reduce the fan noise. To be clear, I want completely to deactivate the fan(s) irrespective of the consequences that it may have to the notebook or any of its parts. Is it possible somehow to deactivate the fan(s) without opening the notebook and physically remove the fan(s)...?

Best to all
Lanson

Answer:How to deactivate fan completely - Satellite A10

As far as I'm aware the fans inside laptops are temperature controlled and cannot be disabled by software.
The only real way to really stop a fan work is to physically open the laptop and unplug the power lead inside.

This question follows on to my reviving my motherboard from the dead. Having replaced the visually-defective caps on the MB and had it reboot, it's now been running for some weeks. I have no need for the fancy security on the machine. It's used for a test machine, but I'd rather not have to wipe the machine and start over if I don't have to. Not to mention that the machine's primary value now is the installed operating system and that it kind of works. The security stuff it a PITA for this use. So how do I ... safely ... disable it and not lose the contents of the disk? What do I look for? I don't think the HD is encrypted, but how do I tell? (obviously, I didn't do the initial setup on this thing or I'd know already).Specifically, I want to disable the boot delay involved with the thing examining the state of the security chip and then having to do c-a-d to be able to sign in. I'd also like to not have the CSS software "help" me when I'm in the OS, and I'd like to do something about shutdown. Ah, yes, shutdown. When I try to shut down (WinXP), the thing runs through a shutdown cycle, all the way to turning off the lights... and then reboots to the "press c-a-d" to log in. It does not willingly evern turn the power off. Since power-on-hours were (IMHO, and I'm an experienced EE) a big factor in the failure of the MB in the first place, I want it to go --> OFF <-- when I tell it to, not just get ready to make me hit c-a-d again to sign in. I did ... Hi friends,

I have a Toshiba Satellite L50-B-1HM. In this model the battery cannot be removed. I would like to know if I can deactivate the battery to preserve the life of it.

Please help me with this question. It's important for me :)

Thanks in advance.

Answer:How can I deactivate the battery on my Satellite L50-B-1HM?

Hi Marta

Unfortunately such option is not available and you cannot do this. to be honest I understand you but can you imagine you have some important work on your machine and suddenly power is off for some reason (battery deactivated). In this case you could lose your work.

In such case battery is some kind of power ?backup?.
Other thing is that batteries used on notebooks today are not the same that we had 15 years before.
Don't think about it and have a fun with your machine. ;)

I'm running windows 7 home premium 64bit and my taskbar is set to autohide, but whenever I move my mouse to the edge of the screen, it steals focus from whatever program I am using when it reactivates! This means that if I'm playing a game and I move my mouse to the right edge of the screen the reactivating taskbar forces me to the desktop. When I tried to turn off autohide, it didn't work and when I ran settings again the checkbox was refilled. Is there any way to force a reset to factory defaults through a registry edit or is there a file I can download to force explorer back to factory defaults?

Answer:Autohide doesn't deactivate

Welcome to the Seven Forums
I don't know if this will help but try this SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

My Windows XP computer has a second hard drive used strictly for data which has crashed. Can I deactivate it without physically removing the drive (make it invisible to the operating system and programs)??

Answer:XP-deactivate hard drive

* Disconnect the drive's power and data cable
* Disable it in Device Manager

Leaving a duff 2nd hard drive hooked up in your system can cause system instability and possible booting issues, you are best to disconnect it.

Answer:how to temporarely deactivate f-keys

From my experience, those keys shouldn't do anything without you pressing the Function (Fn) button along with them. They should behave as regular F1-F12 keys when pressed by themselves. Are they not doing so? Which laptop model do you have?

I am not looking to deactivate the filtering that InPrivate browsing allows you to do. I want to completely deactivate the option of HAVING InPrivate browsing. Why would I want to do such a thing? I want to be able to see a history of EVERYTHING that happens on my computer, including every website visited. If another user of my computer utilizes the InPrivate Browsing option, I cannot see the history of which websites are visiting during that time. For this reason, I am hoping to find out how to completely delete the InPrivate Browsing option from my computer. I would simply get rid of Internet Explorer (I personally prefer another web-browser), but I don't think THAT is possible. and even if i were to do that, it is entirely too easy to re-download and setup.
My issue is that since there is only 1 user setup on this computer, I cannot even activate "parental controls". ANY recommendations??? PLEASE! Any help is greatly appreciated!

Answer:IS it possible to deactivate InPrivate Browsing?

There's a tutorial which can help you turn it off:
Internet Explorer 8 - Enable or Disable InPrivate Filtering Data - Vista Forums

But as its a feature of the browser, i guess you cant completely remove it.
