Preferred Solution: Removing Entries from Programs and Features

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Removing Entries from Programs and Features

You may try looking C:/ program files and see if you have a folder for the uninstalled program and delete it and do a restart it should be gone. If that doesn't work come back and we'll figure it out.

This section of my win 7 professional (x64) computer appears to have files that are out of date, near duplicates and possible useless files (x32 versions and I use x64 OS). For example, the addition of a MS programs do not delete the out of date ones (I have 2010, and other versions of Virtual Studio express!).

Can anyone provide guidance on what files may be deleted from this section of my computer (if any) and how to delete such files?

Thanks for any help'

Answer:Can I cleanup Control Panel>programs and features entries

Hello frvaughan2 and welcome to Seven Forums.

Some programs do not delete previous versions. Each new version builds upon a previous version so deleting an older version could cause the program to stop working. Other programs may install a 32-bit and a 64-bit version for backward compatibility purposes. This article explains why Windows 7 comes with a 32-bit and 64-bit version of Internet Explorer. The same concepts would apply to other programs.

If you post a screenshot of your Programs and Features the Forum experts might be better able to advise you if any can be removed.

As you can see on the screenshot attached, I have both 32bit and 64bit entries of the same version of Visual C++ Redistributable. I have 64bit system.
Is this normal or I can remove 32bit version?
Also, do I have to have 2008, 2010 and 2012 versions installed at once, or is there backwards compatibility?

Answer:Multiple Visual C++ Redistributable entries in Programs and Features

It's not unusual. Some programs will require different versions and uninstalling them might result in problems whey you go to run the software that requires them.

I just noticed on my fairly new HP laptop that Windows Vista Home Premium 64 bit with SP1 is showing double listings for most of the installed programs in Programs and Features (ie the Add or Remove Programs in XP).

What is wrong, what is the cause, how can I fix it?

Thank you!

Does anyone know how I can remove 'Whitesmoke' from my computer. I've tried to do it via The Control Panel (please see attached) but I get the message that I don't have the authority and I should see my Administrator (My User Account is an Administrator). I've tried to remove it with CCleaner but I get the message that it can't be found (attached).

Does anyone know of another way to get rid of this pesky varmint?

Cheers, and Happy New Year!

P.S. I have tried (and hopefully succeeded) to add my "system specs" to the information in my account so that information should be accessible.

Hello all, I recently went into my regestry and following some instructions on the internet, tried to remove some useless entries from Add or Remove Programs. Well, I've had a couple of problems, because for some of the entries I did not delete the folder, just the display name. After I realized that the entries were still there, I went back into my registry to find the folders and delete them, but no cigar. None of the folders are named after the program and none of the folders have a display name or something that might indicate that the program strings are there. Any help? Thanks

I have stopped using and uninstalled a couple of programs (poker playing sites) but there are still entries in the Registry under HKEY_CURRENT_USER>Software>Program Name folder and HKEY_USERS>Software for both the programs.

Is it necessary for these to remain in the registry and if not, what would be the best way to remove them.

JJP

Answer:Removing registry entries of uninstalled programs

I don't think those are necessary. An uninstaller like Revo Uninstaller would delete stuff like that.

I'd say go ahead and delete them, but only after creating a backup of the registry.

Hey, I hope I understood the directions and I'm doing this correctly. If it's wrong I apologize, I was a bit confused. Just bought a computer from a friend and it's absolutely infested with viruses and spyware. It was basically unusable, constantly freezing and taking many minutes to open and use programs. So I dl'd and ran CCleaner, AVG, malwarebytes, CWShredder, and super anti-spyware (spybot and ad-aware wouldn't work). Also deleted a bunch of obvious things off of the startup list. That got the computer working again, albeit very slowly. Ran an HJT through Help2Go and through an HJT reader and got some more stuff off, but the HJT reader found a bunch of entries that could be fixed if identified. Tried to google the entries, but it wasn't helpful. I need assistance from an expert. So, I'm posting a log in hopes someone can help. I've backed up the system and have a firewall enabled. Also, If anybody could help me finish off deleting startup entries that would be much appreciated. I would really like to eliminate every non-essential starting entry. I included an HJT log for thoroughness. Sorry if I wasn't supposed to do that. This morning Avast alerted me Snap.do was back.  I opened a browser and confirmed the home page was hijacked.  Avast said it could remove it for me and when I looked, the home page was back and Snap.do wasn't on my list of programs in control panel>prorams and features.
I ran malware bytes and nothing too bad was found.  I ran Superantispyware and it reported regcleaner pro, Advanced Sysrem Protector and AppsHat Mobile Apps were installed.  I let the Super antispyware try to remove them and also cleaned out some tracking cookies.  I cehcked programs and the 3 weren't there.  Re-running Super antispyware however keeps reporting they're in my system.

I recently opened up my uninstall list and a lot of my programs are missing i tried restoring my computer to before i downloaded quick time (which i think is what the issue was) but the restore came up with an error 0xc0000022 saying it failed to restore, i tried an sfc scan and it came up with something being corrupt that would be fixed on restart, i restarted and tried to restore again but it still did not work.

I have uninstalled quick-time already but the problem is still there, also my antivirus picked up root-kit in hamachi so i uninstalled that and did a full system scan from boot with avast, i haven't tried restoring again in case i lose any progress or the virus is restored.

So basically i have two problems: Programs missing from my programs and features list, and System restore not working 0xc0000022

I know i should do something with the CBS log to check but ill leave that for you guys to decide, thanks for the help.

Answer:programs missing from programs and features, recovery failed 0xc000002

Download and run Revo Uninstaller for the missing programs.

As far as your rootkit, simply removing the program doesn't remove the malware. Run a scan with Malwarebytes anti-Rootkit, then run Malwarebytes standard and then run Eusing to clean up the entry points of your virus.

Also, go into your AppData directory and clean out all the Temp files in there. Delete them for all user accounts on the machine:

C:\Users\YOU\AppData\Local\Temp for example.

A family member was tricked in to downloading and installing some stuff from the Internet on to a laptop that has Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit with Media Center. I removed the stuff but noticed some other problems. I'm not sure if these are new problems caused by the useless stuff that was installed or if these problems existed earlier.

In Control Panel, Uninstall a Program, not all installed programs are listed. Oddly, the only listed installed programs have names that start with the letters Mi.. or Mo.. Only 14 programs are listed. In Start menu, All Programs, I think some programs are missing. The list seems unusually short. The laptop has a Win 7 style Start menu because IObit's Start Menu 8 program is installed. In Control Panel, System and Security, Administrative Tools, there were no shortcuts to the tools. I fixed that by using SFC /SCANNOW.

I tried using System Restore to go back to an earlier date but that didn't bring back the missing programs. I undid the restore. I created a new Windows user account. The new account had the same issues.

I guess the missing programs could be the result of malware. I don't remember exactly what I removed. I only used the free version of MBAM to clean up. I tried restoring everything MBAM quarantined but that didn't help. I requarantined the stuff. It was mostly, if not all, PUPs.

Any ideas for bringing back the programs that should be in the Start menu and Programs and Features menu?

Answer:Missing some Programs in Programs and Features (Uninstall a Program) Menu

I gave up. I restored the operating system and reinstalled everything. No problems now so I guess the problems of missing programs and BitDefender not working was caused by the malware/PUPs- a buggy installer.

I have Windows 7 Prof x64.

My question is, when displaing all software installed and choosing more columns of information to display, they don't stay. For example, choosing Location column. Getting out of the installed programs list and then returning to it, the Location column is gone.

Is there some what to get the columns to be persistent?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Question about Windows 7 Control Panel\Programs\Programs and Features

The Programs and Features listing is shown to you by the Explorer app. Each time that you open/close the Windows (file) Explorer while viewing a folder (or a special view/list like the Programs and Features listing), Explorer tries to write info to the registry about how Explorer was showing you that folder. Windows (file) Explorer tries to write this "how to display a folder" info at other times besides just closing an Explorer window, but I'll not go into all of that.

Microsoft has not solved the problem that happens when these places in the registry get too big. When this happens, you may see the problem that you are experiencing - that of no longer being able to store the layout/view/column width/column selection/... info in the registry.

Below is video that I made showing registry keys being made. (I'm not suggesting that you mess with the registry.) Notice that new keys are made when visiting the folder named Temp. Deleting this Temp folder does not remove those registry keys. If you close Windows (file) Explorer while viewing a compressed folder (a ZIP file), the Explorer app tries to make keys so that it can remember how it last showed you that folder. If you delete or move that ZIP folder to another location, the original registry keys remain. So you can see how this area of the registry can fill up.

edit: I had to make this video again. I hope that I covered all of the original points.

One solution is to remove all of the entries/keys in the areas of ... Read more

Hi guys, hope you can help me with this please because I don?t really know what to do to solve it.

I have a Vaio running Windows 8.1. but coming with Windows 8 preinstalled. I have recently noticed that most of the programs and apps (Adobe, Realtek, Sony folder, Intel, Avast, Java, Bluetooth?) on Programs and Features (Uninstall a Program) have vanished without knowing how. Only Microsoft apps are displayed there for some reason.

First, I run sfc /scannow and found some corrupted files that could not be fixed, so I decided to perform a full recovery (through Vaio Care that makes use of the Recovery partition) that restores the system to factory settings. After recovery, all programs and apps were in Programs and Features as expected. However, after removing either the preinstalled version of MS Office 2013 or the preinstalled games, most programs and apps disappeared again. I run again sfc /scannow, Avast and Malwarebytes and they found no issues at all. I also tried System Restore, but it did not fix anything. Only MS Office 2013, Avast and Malwarebytes are currently installed on the drive, along with Windows automatic updates (including Windows 8.1), and I have not used any ?cleaner? or ?optimizer? tools.

I found a potential cause for this. Apparently, the uninstaller for a program can incorrectly remove registry entries that are used by Windows and the Add/Remove Programs tool (Add/Remove Programs tool displays installed programs incorrectly), but I am not sure whether... Read more

Hi,
I wonder if someone can help me. I posted on the microsoft support pages but nobody could help me and directed me here.

A few weeks back i accidentally downloaded a program that wasn't from a reliable source, which in turn downloaded a bunch of junk on my computer. It was stupid of me, i'm usually really careful!
I managed to get in and remove most of them, but then all of a sudden all but a few of my programs completely disappeared from Programs and features. Flash Player, Google Chrome, Firefox and a few other programs were the only ones hat remained. The major programs that were missing from the list are still working fine from what i can see, but i didn't get the chance to remove a few items of adware and they are still active on my computer and being as irritating as an STI (i'd imagine...)
On searching online how to remove these parasites, most of the sites suggest uninstalling from Programs and Features, which i can't do because they aren't on the list! All other suggestions have not worked!
I have tried going into safe mode (with and without networking) and setting up another user profile with admin but the list stays the same.
I can't remember the last time i backed up (Months ago i presume)
This morning i did a scan on cmd (sfc /scan ??) and came back saying "Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations"

So I'm trying to uninstall some stuff, and Programs and Features from Control Panel is mostly blank. It seems to think that on my 500gb hard drive, which only has 50gb free space, that I only have 22 programs, occupying a space of half a gb. But there's a twist: this goes deeper than Windows being crappy, because Revo Uninstaller Pro says the exact same thing. So yeah....you might have gathered from the above info that I need to uninstall some things...
Thanks in advance.

- Version of the OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x86

- Were there recent crashes that could have caused this problem?: no
- Did you install new software recently? If this is the case: Which software? (Brand, version, build): Yes, lots....don't remember it all and can't check for obvious reasons.
- Did you do any of the following:
- Run a scan with an updated anti-virus program?
- Run a scan with an updated anti-Trojan program?
- Run a scan with an updated root kit detection program? (This only for Windows NT, W2K and newer!)
- Run anti-spyware scans with at least two freshly updated anti-spyware programs? (If so, which ones?): I have nod32 (legit)...'nuff said.

Some (3, out of maybe 20) of my installed Programs, all working perfectly well, are not listed in Control Panel -> Programs and Features.

Any ideas on how to rectify this, please?

Thank you.

Answer:Some installed Programs not listed in Programs and Features...

Some programs do not really "Install" by using normal installation process by writing entries in the Registry and so don't show up as uninstallable. "Portable programs" are an example. If they don't have Uninstall.exe (or similar file) in it's folder, you can just delete folder and shortcut.

Just noticed that most of the programs have vanished in programs and features (control panel). I have around 90 installed programs. The ones that have vanished still work from the quick launch bar but they have also disappeared from the start menu. Have tried a system restore to the only restore point that was available but it didn't change anything.
The programs that are there are in alphabetical order from Mi to Mo
I updated filezilla yesterday and that reappeared in the programs and features list.

Answer:Most programs vanished from programs and features in contr

Hi Trevor,

Recently I noticed the same problem on a Windows 8.1 Samsung laptop when I was trying to remove some junk programs that came from the Internet. The only programs listed in the laptop's Programs and Features menu have names that start with Mi or Mo. Plus, some programs are missing from the Start -> All Programs menu. Microsoft's System Restore didn't help me. Check if Administrative Tools is empty on your computer, too. It was empty on the laptop I am working on. I fixed that by opening a command prompt as Administrator and using the command SFC /SCANNOW. That didn't bring back the missing programs in Programs and Features but that fixed the missing shortcuts in Administrative Tools and may have fixed a couple other issues I didn't know about.

Hi
Does win 2000 have a feature to add/remove some of the more pointless utilities like 98 used to? I don't really need stuff like the accessibility features, modem features, and such. And I really want the Clipboard viewer.

Answer:Removing features in Win 2000

I would not worry, the add onís you want to get rid of, they donít use any memory unless they are turned on.

My computer (running XP) must be storing certain entries I have made on web pages. Worst case: I ordered a product on a secure web site that contracts with ussecurepay.com. When I went back to the site, to order additional merchandise, as soon as I typed in the first number of my credit card, the entire card number popped up in a box, just below the entry field. This confidential number is being stored somewhere! Is there a way to determine exactly where these values are being stored, and then delete them from my hard drive? I am concerned that if a hacker ever gets into my computer, they could find the number, and retrieve it over the internet!

Answer:Removing stored entries

They are probably in Autofill or Autocomplete are you using Google Toolbar, if so look under options and delete your credit card #. If your using Firefox look
under Tools> Autofill.

Good evening all. Some time ago, I deleted avast! antivirus as I was having issues with my system. I also, for a trial period, used HDD Life until I discovered Everest Home Edition.Earlier today, I was running the Belarc Advisor tool when I noticed that, under the antivirus section, avast! is still being shown under my current antivirus (Zonealarm).I'm using 2 reg cleaners, Regseeker and CCleaner. When I looked in Regseeker, there are still 37 entries relating to avast! and 1 for Hdd Life. Firstly, as I deleted these programs, why haven't the reg cleaners got rid of the (presumably) useless entries; and secondly, is it safe to remove all entries relating to avast!, HDD Life or indeed any other piece of software I have deleted? Thanks for any advice.

Ok, well I have 2x250gb HDs in RAID0 that I have Windows installed on, and a wd640aaks as my storage, but about a month or so ago a corrupted Vista disk resulted in a few botched installations, and the boot info is still somewhere in my storage drive

Searching the drive shows many bootmgr.exe.mui files (languages) but I don't wan't to delete them if they effect my current setup.

I wouldn't assume they would, because if I unplug my storage drive the Windows 7 bootloader still loads as it should (dual booting XP and W7 right now)

Ok,

I've got a MYSQL database and a page with php that load the info from the database into the table.

One of the columns in the database is ID. which is a unique number assigned to each item in the database.

I've got the table in the page loading all the data, and then an extra column that contains a remove button.

I'm wanting to create a form that when the user clicks that remove button, it removes that specific ID number from the database.
I've set up the form so that it points to another php file. In that file I'm using the $_get[id]; to load the variable...

The script executes, but the item is not removed from the database.

Could someone please help me on this? Is this possible?

I have double booting PC (HDD ata 160GB; pentium 3-- 733Mhz; RAM 384MB) :
Windows XP Pro (120GB) and Ubuntu 9.04 (40GB) with broadband internet.
Windows firewall is ON, superAntiSpyware is ON, antivirus program "Avira" is ON.
After downloading and trying "omniformat image convertion freeware" I removed this software and from Registery and from Explorer. PC started severely jerking and wobbling of desktop picture, when loging on; or late, in random time, whatever operation system I try switch on. Aditionaly, screen covered shapeless pale greenish -violet colour and I need to try to restart my PC. Number of times: I cleaned all cookies , temporary files, run antispy and antivirus program number of times, examinated all "Events" (PC Management) and as result-- removed "gupdate1ca759ef6ab1590", "wuaueng.dll"'. And also removed from registry, from ESENT, number of keys Reg_SZ with description "This scheme keeps the monitor on for doing presentations". I exzaminated and Task Manager and "msconfig", Dr.Watson was positiv, same as antiSpy and antiVirus programs. I should mention, that "omniformat.." software operated with numbers of advertizements and proposed to pay for special "key' to close these fliking advertizements. Late, I removed some cookies named "sponsor" which linked to Internet Explorer (I used Mozilla browser "Firefox").

Answer:problems after removing registry entries

I am glad to inform all members of the forum that my problem, mentioned above, has solution. After consulting with my former (Alas) teacher, Mr. Michael Wilks in the Sydney Technical College, Ultimo,Sydney I understand that problem or in the Visual Card or in the contacts with Monitor. He recomended to me to check contacts first and if contacts correct then pull out and put in Video Card few time. It was enough just slap my monitor on the top of it or from other sides and picture on the screen. Now I have, probably, replace my old monitor.
Good luck for all people of forum. Victor Krul. 71 years old pensioner.Sydney. 17 February, 2010.

I am attempting to cleanup a PC that was badly infected with viruses, trojans, and various malware. Actually, the process has gone quite well and nearly everything has been restored/cleaned. I've run all the cleanup software (Ad-aware, Spybot S&D, etc.), and have Microsoft Anti-spyware current and running (no items detected during daily scans), have upgraded to SP2 and have the firewall running, have Norton Antivirus 2005 installed and up-to-date (no items detected during daily scans), etc . However, there are three entries in HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify that simply won't go away. If I delete them manually with Regedit, or with HijackThis, they immediately come back. Obviously, something running on the system is restoring them. This even happens in Safe Mode. The entries all point to non-existant .dat files named the reverse of the entry names (e.g., mocitna.dat for anticom, sarlld.dat for dllras, etc.). I have verified (repeatedly) that the .dat files don't exist, but cannot get these entries to stop generating. At this point, I'm not sure it's doing any harm, but I'd like to sort it out just to make sure the system is clean. The other entries in Hijackthis (v1.99.1) seem okay, but these three are the ones that won't go away:

O20 - Winlogon Notify: anticom - C:\DOCUME~1\SANDRA\LOCALS~1\Temp\mocitna.dat

Is there a way to delete/remove startup list entries that show up in MSCONFIG? There are about 20 listed, but I only have four checked to start at load time.

Answer:Removing startup list entries

Open regedit from run and navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run-

delete the unwanted entries.

Also in the start/program list - you can delete the disabled startup items group if its there.

There is no harm in leaving them there though.

Messing with the registry can cause more problems than its worth.
If the PC has no problems then leave them.

I've been on Windows 8 for a couple of months now and have installed a fair amount of programs which previously, as you'd expect, appeared on the Programs and Features list. However, as of yesterday, there are only about 10 programs in the list and I can find specific examples which I can run from the start menu or desktop that do not appear there.

This happened around a similar time to accidentally installing an application called 'TornTV', which a quick google revealed comes with all kinds of adware/spyware. I have since removed this program and run a full virus scan (Norton 360) which found nothing. I am wondering whether it could be related to this but whatever the cause, is there any way I can get the programs back in the list without having to reinstall them all?

Hello, I repair computers and lately I saw a few computers, all running on Windows 7, with missing programs in "Programs and Features" :The programs that are missing in "Programs and Features" could be viewed in the Uninstall function of CCleaner :To clean the computers, and get rid of all the crapware installed, I used Combofix, AdwCleaner and did a full scan with Kaspersky. When I saw that the missing programs didn't reappear, I did a "sfc /scannow", used Tweaking Windows Repair and did, in last resort, a Windows repair using a Windows 7 DVD and choosing "Upgrade" :The programs didn't reappear even after all of this.I know that programs can disappear in "Programs and Features" if the DisplayName value, in the registry, is more then 64 characters long :HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\UninstallThe thing is that the entries of the installed programs missing in "Programs and Features" are not in the above paths. How can CCleaner see those programs ?Do you have any ideas ?Thanks,m0t

Hi,

Recently my mom visited a website that tricked her. She downloaded and installed some stuff she didn't need. I removed the stuff but noticed some other problems. I'm not sure if these are new problems caused by the useless stuff she installed.

Control Panel -> Programs -> Programs and Features is not showing all installed programs. Oddly, the only listed installed programs have names that start with the letter M. 14 programs are listed. See picture. Start Menu -> All Programs -> I suspect some programs are missing. I have a Win 7 style Start menu because I am using IObit's Start Menu 8 program. Control Panel -> System and Security -> Administrative Tools was empty. I fixed that by using SFC /SCANNOW.

I tried using System Restore to go back to an earlier date, but that didn't work. In the process of trying to do that I discovered that BitDefender Internet Security 2014 doesn't get along with Windows 8.1's System Restore feature. I uninstalled BitDefender and successfully went back to an earlier date but still had the same problems with missing programs. I undid the restore. I created a new Windows user account. The new account had the same issues: missing programs in the Start menu and Programs and Features menu.

Answer:Missing Some Programs in Programs and Features

I gave up. I restored the operating system to like new and reinstalled everything.

I've just un-installed a trial copy of 'System Mechanic' and it's left behind an annoying 'Can't find' screen at Win XP startup, only brief but annoying:banghead There are several entries in the registry under Current user / Software / 'Iolo'. Will deleting the whole folder cure my pain?

Answer:Removing deleted program entries from registry

Probably... you should also run a reg cleaner. CCleaner is free, and has proven itself to be a safe reg cleaner, and temp file/cookie cleaner too.

I used the Avira AntiRootkit tool today and discovered I had the TDSSSERV trojan. Lucky me. So I used SDFix to remove it. Everything went well and according to the instructions. However on checking my registry afterwards there were still references to TDSSERV in the registry (under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet005\Services\TDSSserv and HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet005\Services\TDSSserv.sys) which the system doesn't allow me to delete. Although they appear empty in Regedit, Avira is reporting these keys as containing hidden data.

I've tried removing them in safe mode, but also can't.

How can I get rid of these entries from my registry?

I'm using Windows XP Pro.

Thanks!

When I open the pictures library, I have these two bottom entries (see picture) that I can't get rid of. The folders have apparently been deleted because they're nowhere to be found. These entries are only in the libraries view. I can navigate to the pictures folder and they're not present. I can navigate to the root (C/user name/ app data/ roaming/Microsoft/Windows/ libraries) and these entries are not there.
I can't delete or move them. I can highlight them but there is no right click menu. Selecting/deselecting hidden files and folders has no effect. I've Googled everything I can think of and can't find anyone else with this problem.
If I can't get it fixed, my world won't end but I'm hoping there is something simple that I'm overlooking.
I would appreciate any suggestions.

Answer:Solved: Removing entries in Libraries (see picture)

Click on the 3 locations link under Picture Library. Then remove the last two libraries/or any library that you do not want to show up as part of the library.

We are getting a message saying that the Avira Firewall is turned off, when the computer boots. This program was uninstalled quite some time ago and we have since been using Microsoft Security Essentials (running & up to date). When the Avira warning did not disappear, we downloaded the Avira uninstaller program from their website. However, the message remains. There are references to Avira in 15 folders and subfolders in the Registry (using the Find feature in Regedit). It is confusing because most of the subfolder names and many of the entries are just sequences of numbers/letters, with the name Avira appearing only occasionally. The Windows Firewall is on.

Is there any way I can tell which Registry entries are safe to delete?
Would this cause the warning to disappear?

As the title says: How do I remove the entries in the taskbar icon customisation list for programs that I have uninstalled? I uninstalled 2 programs, but their entries are still there for 'customisation'. Not that it matters that much, but I like stuff neat and tidy.

I think in XP there was a 'remove from list' if one selected an entry, but in Windows 7 I cannot see any option.

Answer:Removing entries in taskbar icon list

Right click on the icon that you want to remove.. select "unpin this icon from taskbar"...

When I run ADWcleaner it tags a couple of registry entries.  I "clean" them and the report generated when my computer restarts indicates they were deleted.  But if I immediately run ADWcleaner again, it shows they are still there and tagged for removal.

I have attached the report indicating the entries in question were deleted. But in fact they show up again.  Perhaps they are automatically installed whenever Windows starts.  This problem just began.  Possibly related to the latest Windows update.

I suspect they are for tracking usage. How can they be permanently deleted?

Answer:ADWcleaner not removing tagged registry entries

I uninstalled Flashget after PestPatrol convinced me that it was spyware.
I'm also running Spy-bot, Ad-aware, HiJackThis and SpywareBlaster. I also did manual researches and deletions in the registry but:
1- when I reboot the {A5366673-E8CA-11D3-9CD9-0090271D075B} BHelperO is there again !
2- the MenuExt keys related to FlashGet reappear in the HKU!
So there is some DLL or EXE or BIN or Whatever that
recreates this entries in the registry. I can't figure which
file is doing it. If it is able to do that it can steal and send who knows what...

The program will still be there, but can you show us which Registry key you're looking at? Right-click the key (the keys are in the left-hand pane) and choose "Copy Key Name" and then paste it here.

I have a linksys wmp54gx router that I would like to get functional again. I need to uninstall it for the sake of a clean install, but the normal methods will not work. I need to remove all registry entries it created upon installation. Any ideas how to go about finding them?

Before it is suggested, let me say that I have the most recent drivers, I have tried repeatedly to remove the device from the device manager, and to uninstall the current drivers. The drivers stubbornly remain present (albeit nonfunctional) no matter how I try to remove them.

Things I have already doneUsed the bundled software uninstall.
Attempted to remove the driver from device manager (gives the error message "device may be required to boot")
Tried to reinstall the proper drivers (tells me they are no better than the currently loaded driver)
Physically removed the card, rebooted, and tried to reinstall.

I am at the limits of my technical knowledge. Every tech support number/forum I have tried has failed. Can anyone help?

Answer:*difficult problem* removing hardware's registry entries

Hello and Welcome to TSF

First I should mention to backup your registry before editing !!

Click Start / Run and type in regedit

With the Registry Editor open Click Edit / Find and type in linksys
remove all instances of linksys that it finds (this is of course if this is the only linksys product you have installed in the system)

What is the issue with the router in the first place?

Hi , I recently downloaded and installed the free edition of adaware 2008.

After performing a full scan I was left with 9 re-directed host file entries which could not be removed or be quarantined.

I tried booting up in safe mode and trying to remove them that way but it still didnt work.

Can anyone please help as my computer seems sluggish and my hard disk seems to work overtime for the simplest of tasks.

I usually use Ccleaner , Avast and spybot and regularly defrag and declutter anything I dont need so im convinced its these critical objects causing mischief.

Thanks alot in advance.

Hi everyone. I just recently had to manually delete backweb off of my computer after taking multiple other measures to make sure it was gone. Now, the Backweb entry is still listed in the startup list in System Configuration Utility. Anyway, I really would like to make this go away. It is unchecked but it is annoying that it is still there when I have deleted the thing off my computer. How can I get rid of this entry?

Hi everybody,
I know Microsoft likes to move things around with a new OS release.
They did it in Vista with Add and Remove Programs, changing it to Programs and Features and carried it over
to Win. 7. I found a Registry hack that changed it in Vista. I tried it on WIN 7. and it gave me an error,

"Not all data written, some registry keys still open"
It's on this page under "Control Panel" http://www.techoddity.com/tweak
This is it when I used edit.

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{7b81be6a-ce2b-4676-a29e-eb907a5126c5}]
@="Add/Remove Programs"
"LocalizedString"=-

Does anyone know if there is one for 7 or how to edit the registry it to change it to Add and Remove
Maybe one of you with Vista can use it. It worked fine when I had Vista.

This is just one of my pet peeves with Windows.
Thanks

Hi. I had a problem recently where my C drive said it was full. I have an Acer so my hard drive is split in two. I transfered all my files (e.g. Word docs, images, videos) to the D drive and left programs and any other files like that on my C drive. Now my C drive for some reason says it is full again. I dunno how it could be, I removed a load of files and programs and moved all documents over and haven't installed or saved anything else to there. But anyway, I decided that I would remove another program or two that I didn't need. I went to programs and features (I'm using Vista) clicked uninstall and it began uninstalling. Suddenly I got a message telling me there was an error and it couldn't install the program. It's done this on more than one program (one from a disk, one I downloaded)so it's not just that I don't have the disk for it so it can't uninstall (as some programs do require that).

As I say it does start to uninstall, but then it seems to change its mind and tries installing. How can I get it to uninstall them as it should? I've never had any problems before and I can't think what could be causing it.

Thanks.

Hi Everyone,

I am using Windows Media Player 12 and I would like to remove duplicate song entries from my Music Library without deleting files from a networked computer.

My challenge is that I have added multiple networked folder locations to my Media Library, and on some of those network drives the same Albums exists.

For example

\\Computer1\My Music
+ Album ABC
+ Album DEF
+ Album XYZ

\\Computer2\My Music
+ Album GHI
+ Album STU
+ Album XYZ

In the above example both Computers 1 & 2 have a local copy of Album XYZ. Because of this every song appears twice in the Media Player Library (and by inference Playlist).

Further to the above example if I open Media Player and perform a search for Album XYZ I then see the following -

Song1
Song1
Song2
Song2
Song3
Song3
Song4
Song4
etc...

I can right click on individual songs and select "Remove from this list" - however this is very tedious.

Is there a way of telling Media Player to only put one copy of each individual song into the Media Library regardless of how many copies of the song actually exist in the Libraries folder locations?

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Davo

Answer:Removing duplicate entries from Windows Media Player without deleting

Open WMP 12
Click File >> Manage Libraries
Choose media type.
Remove all locations except the one you want WMP to use for adding to it's library.

I suggest you delete all existing libraries first, then start afresh by setting up the required media locations as above.

I'm migrating to a new PC today (this is posted from the new one), and I'm determined to keep it more organized than my last one. I use a lot of opensource software, much of which doesn't have an installer, it's just copied to wherever you want it and shortcuts made manually. This is a problem when I'm trying to remember what's there.

Is there a way to create a record in "Programs and Features" for this software? I can create an uninstall command script for each one if it requires an uninstaller to be listed here, or whatever needs to be done. I just don't know how this part of Windows 7 works.

EDIT: I just found this. I'm still reading, but it looks like what I need.

Answer:Make Record in "Programs and Features" for Programs With No Installer?

Hi 4evrplan, welcome to the Seven Forums.

As far as I know it is not possible to manually add portable applications to Programs and Features list.

I have solved this simply by creating a folder called Portable Apps on C:\Program Files, adding all portable apps here in their own subfolders. A folder listing of this folder = a list of my portable apps, backing up all portable apps for instance before reinstalling Windows I simply just need to copy this one folder with its subfolders.

Hi, I have recently discovered a problem on a my computer where I have a completely new list of programs in my Programs and Features. By this I mean I have programs that I know are part of some of my other programs but seem to be stuff like 'System requirement lab' and 'HP customer feedback' which where never previously in my Programs and Features and I don't realy think the programs in there qualify to be in the list, they seem to be more of secondary programs, such as parts of programs rather then the actualy program. I can also not uninstall any of the programs but as I am installing new ones they seem to be placed into the new list and are available to uninstall. I do not know how this happened and at the moment im unable to remove any of the programs or uninstall them from the Programs and Features list, while also unable to uninstall any of my other programs that I had via to when this happened. Finally, all of the programs have limited icons and the ones that do not have the 'missing icon' icon. Please help if you can anyone, its will be much appreciated, thank you.

Answer:Programs and Features problem

Hello Matthew3,
These are things that you will have installed at some time, probably via a web site.

'System requirement lab' is a feature of "Can You Run It", a site that will tell you if your PC system is up to running games.

The same with 'HP customer feedback', this would have appeared after a visit with HP.
If they bother you they are safe to remove, but will not do any harm either.

Hope this helps, good luck.

In the list of installed programs, I see "CVE-2010-3971" shown twice, with no publisher listed for it.

When I do a search for that term I find that it refers to a vulnerablility that was patched in January 2011. I've not previously seen an entry that looked like this, with no other identifying information.

I can't even find any info on the Microsoft patch that was released for this vulnerabilty, apparently it was superceded by another update, but no info about that is given. MS11-003: Cumulative security update for Internet Explorer

Does anyone have any information about what this might be?

Thanks

I would suggest wating, any changes you make may be undone by the company/person working on the system this weekend...such as; resetting system defaults and the like.

i can open control panel fine, then when i double click programs and features, the loading icon appears briefly and disappears immediately.

i've downloaded several registry cleaning tools that haven't helped and tried to enable in the registry editor, which also didn't work.

can anybody help?

If no help, type the name of the program in search and see if you can access that way.

Answer:Programs and Features Windows 7

Not that I am currently aware of. click programs and features, then click uninstall programs or features, and wait about 3 minutes (i know it may seem like a really long time, perhaps you could feed the dog, make lunch; in other words let it sit for a little bit). If it still wont pop up, then type cmd in the start menu and RIGHT click it, select run as administrator. type sfc /scannow and let it scan for as long as it needs (usually less than 5 minutes).

You can also optimize windows a bit (no need to buy anything, but it does have a lot of different suggestions): Optimize Windows 7

Hey everybody I was just checking up on things in my laptop and found everything fine and dandy until I got to the Programs and Features Menu. It only shows the following Programs...
Apple Mobile Device Support
ATI Catalyst Install Manager
Bonjour
Brodcom Gigabit Netlink Controller
Conexant HD Audio
Facebook Plug-In
HDAUDIO Soft Data Fax Manager w...
HyperCam 2 (64-Bit)
iTunes
Lexmark 4800 Series and a few others. I`d really like to know if this is happening to anyone else and as far as I know it has something to do with the registry.

Answer:Programs and Features Error

I had a similar problem after installing HyperCam2. I set back to an earlier image and the problem was fixed. But if you have no images, you may try a restore point from before HyperCam was installed.
