Question: The best program to recover erased Hard Disc

The best program to recover an erased or formated Hard Disc?

Preferred Solution: The best program to recover erased Hard Disc

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: The best program to recover erased Hard Disc

That's is difficult as a fully formatted HDD is difficult to recover not mentioning recovering the whole OS!

Hi, please help.

The computer is an HP a6400f, Windows Vista service pack 2
with a Western Digital WD5000 AAKS-65A7B0 drive.

Last year I started having problems with the wd5000 hard drive. I would get error messages and at startup the computer would show that it was scanning the files. I realized that maybe the drive was dying, so I figured out how to clone it to a new 1TB drive. Things had been ok with the new 1TB drive until last month. My dad had trouble with it and didn't tell me until windows would not even load anymore. I was heartbroken. I know I should have saved everything to some discs when I had the chance. Anyway, I used another computer to download a vista repair program, made a CD, and used the cd on the a6400f, but it didn't seem to work.

So since the new drive seemed dead, I had the idea to use the original hard drive I had cloned from (wd5000), and try to repair it and clone it again. So I plugged in the original drive, used the vista repair disc, and thankfully it was working even though it still says biohd-8 in the smart test. I was hopeful because the desktop would load, but the problem was that it would take forever to load. Yesterday I decided to wait however long it would take until the spinning cursor would go away and see if I could click on programs. It took a long time and everything was slow, but I was able to access the msconfig and check off some startups and services. Then I read online about chkdsk /r. So I tried that and when I s... Answer:How can I recover data from hard drive after using repair disc?

Hi and welcome,
You may be able to recover some files using testdisk (free and legal) but it depends how over-written they are. Guide here: inc how to run from within Windows.

In the meantime, use those drives as little as possible to improve chances of recovery.
You could try using a Linux o/s called Ubuntu to try to rescue files off the dead drive. Guide here the version of Ubuntu has changed so some screenshots may look different, but the method still works.

Hope this helps?

My hard drive crashed on my desktop computer. It started making noises and then just locked up. I replaced the hard drive and my recover disc won't work. My question is this. I can borrow a Windows XP Professional oem installation disc from my employer. Can I install from my employer's disc and use my Product I.D. Code to reinstall XP Pro onto my computer? Thanks in advance.

Answer:Hard Drive crashed, recover disc won't work

As long as your product Code is for the same version, Xp Pro OEM.
Check the COA sticker on your PC, if the key is for an OEM XP Pro install, then you can. If you have XP Home though, you'd need an XP Home OEM Disk.

If you installed from a Retail disk, you would need a Retail disk to use with your Product key.

Can I use some prog to recover the data?

Answer:Recover erased data

Hi There!

There are a couple programs that can recover data but you're gonna pay for it because they aren't cheap.

You might try searching out a "Data Recovery" company and for a fee, then can most likely get everything back.
Good Luck!

Hi, all.

It looks like I accidentally erased a CD-RW that had some personal information backed-up onto it. hehe

1. Is it possible to recover data from an erased CD-RW?

2. If so, is there some software that is recommended for the job?

It would take me quite a while to find some of the information elsewhere; so, I'm just trying to save some time here.

Your input is much appreciated!

Title pretty much says it all...
How to recover?
Synology DS215j mounted with 2 x 4TB WD Red
So I tried doing a fabric reinstall from inside the DSM. Apparently it was a DELETE ALL option and now i´ve gotten 2 empty disks. Anyway to get the data back that i´ve just deleted? Its a DS215j, mounted with 2 x 4TB WD Red. Just hooked one of them to a windows rig, and saw it had a 100% free space, so nothing on them.. Was running, as far as I remember, DSM 5.2 while this happen.
As i´ve never tried things like this before, a how to, step by step giude, would be very much apriciated. :D

Answer:Erased my entire NAS, how to recover?

NAS systems are Linux based and don't use Windows file format. Try attaching one to Linux based machine and then running a File(Linux) recovery software.Check your NAS manual or call technical support for advice.
Since you have 2 drives it makes the situation more complex. If you have a good, recent backup, you can restore the files from that. And if you don't have a good backup, the NAS manual and tech support don't help. If data is really important you can use data recovery services like Stellar to recover data.
ALl the best!!
and your data is worth spending a lot of money, you can use a data recovery service like Ontrack or DriveSavers. Just make sure they know what type of NAS system contained these drives and whether they were part of a RAID.

Hello!Currently I'm working on a library computer. This is my problem! I have downloaded a word file (that is my own) from my draft folder in e-mail. That file had to be edited. When I was saving it, I cannot remember whether I chose ''view'' or ''save'' option, because I might have thought I will only read it trough and not start working immidiately. Yet, I obviously have (hours went by), and I've finished the editing. It is possibly the file is only, as I mentioned, tempor. file in mozilla's 'downloads'.At one moment, I saved the changes, and saved the file, although I don't know where, closed it, and went for the book. After I came back to the desk, I couldn't find the file anywhere. When I downloaded the file again, same 'downloads' window appeared, and there is the old file that I worked in, in the bottom of the list, but now it won't open again. Is there any possible way to find somewhere my lost file? To recover it?I know this may sound unserious, but there are hours of work in it.I also hope I won't be annoying with this kind of problem and question, but this is important to me, as a lot of work is done in that doc.I know there must be some folder somewhere, where this type of files is stored, but I cannot find it.This is w xp library comp, just for info.I would appreciate some advice...Thanks

Answer:Cannot find a file, maybe is erased...ANY way to recover it?

I'd use the Windows XP Search function:Click on Start Click on SearchClick on For Files and FoldersSelect "All files and Folders" on the left options column.Enter the file name of your document followed by wildcard file extension type so your_document_name.* where you replace your_document_name here with the actual name of the document name. The drive to search should be C: , however it can be D: or any other drive letter if not a normal default windows installation on the library computer.Click on Search and wait for results to be found.Any files of yours found that match should be saved to a thumb drive to retrieve them.If nothing is found and nothing is in the recycle bin, its likely long gone, however you can inquire with the library as to if they have this system connected to a server that has shadowcopy enabled to recover your lost file as a last resort, but I am not aware of any libraries that save user data like this due to privacy policy. Corporations use shadowcopy to protect users from accidental deletion of files if enabled and implemented correctly. Most libraries that I have been in had well configured systems in which their user profile for the general public using the computers was set to delete data discarding changes and documents that were added/saved by a user on logoff or shutdown, so that nothing can be planted on the systems to clutter or allow a hacker to invade users privacy by planting a profile exploit if there was one.*If this compute... Oops, I erased a 1GB Lexar 40X CF card with live images, no backup. Erase was done by format in the camera, a Canon 10D. Any ideas how to recover the files, if possible? Thanks for any replies.

Answer:How to recover files from erased CF card?

You can use any file recovery software if the card can be attached as a disk drive. If your camera can't act as USB storage, then you have to use a card reader.

Zero Assumption Recovery ZAR is a nice tool that lets you recover images for free and I have recovered all images from a Canon-formatted CF with it. (The fscking camera didn't have a confirmation frompt for the format command!)

My hdd recently crashed, erasing pictures that Iīve already moved from my camera (Digital IXUS 80). Now I want to recover them from the memory card. I have O&O UnErase, but my problem is that when I connect my camera to my computer running Win XP, it shows up as "Digital Camara IXUS 80", and not as an external drive, therefore O&O Unerase canīt recover anything from it.
Is it possible to make XP recognize the camera as an external drive (eg. F: )? Or can I use another program in this case?

Answer:Recover erased photos from digital camara

You need a media card reader which a lot of new PC's come with. You can also buy a multi-card reader that plugs in to your USB port. That may not allow you to "undelete: however. A memory card is not the same as a hard drive especially if you have used the memory card for anything else since.

Curious. I just did a 'properties' check under COMPUTER - 'devices with removable storage' on a CD which had a cdr-w in it that I was going to erase. I got the 700+meg total and xx used msg. When I clicked on the Win7 'erase disc' option when done I again selected 'properties'. This time it stated 0 available and 0 used. NOW, when I use the erase function from a third party program and then check the properties it once again shows 700+ meg available 0 used. WHY does the internal WIN7 erase cause the 0 & 0 to show up and NOT the correct values as the third party does? I am just curious and IF my system is wrong then how do I correct it? THANKS...

Which is a reason why I don't recommend Windows built in burning utilities.
There may not be anything wrong, and the disk may burn just fine.

Hello! I recently bought a 3TB external USB hard disk, which suddenly did not want to start. When switching on, I could here the disk try to start to rotate, but it didn't, as if the provided power was too weak or so.

I unscrewed the disk from its housing and put the housing with its S-ATA-to-USB controller aside and plugged the disk - a "ST3000DM001-1CH166, Seagate Barracuda" - to a PC cases S-ATA Port, now it really started. Then, as soon as I started the disk manager, I was asked to "activate" the disk, which I did (maybe this was a fault?)

Now I have activated the disk, but in disk manager there are two partitions showing up now:
2048 GB unallocated,
746,54 GB unallocated

I installed EaseUS Data recovery wizard (to my systems hard disk of course) and started a recovery search, which took about 48 hours. I got a complete list of all files that where/are on the disk and obviously I can recover all, actually I started the recovery to another disk. But the complete folder structure would be lost, if recovering the files this way, all would be saved in one huge folder "NTFS lost files", or so. This makes this kind of recovery 99% useless for me.

Now EaseUS is able to save a once done search result and load it later, so one only once has to run that time consuming search. So I saved the result and interrupted the even much more time consuming recovery.

At least I know now that the files are all on the disk, and also is the folder s... Read more

Answer:3TB Hard disc became "unallocated", how to recover?

Wait for more comments, but I think your better move would have been to attempt to recover the original partition, rather than immediately try to recover the files.

If that disk originally had a single 3 TB partition, it was initialized as "GPT", not the more commonly found MBR. MBR partitions are limited to 2.2 TB.

That EaseUS tool you have may or may not have partition recovery capability. The standard recommendation on this forum for partition recovery is to use Partition Wizard:

Free download Magic Partition Manager Software, partition magic alternative, free partition magic, partition magic Windows 7 and server partition software - Partition Wizard Online

You might download that tool, but I'd wait for more comments before using it or EaseUS.

What do you mean by "erased the extension"?Did you just rename the files? If so, rename them again and put the extension back on.What kind of files are these? ok... so here it is...
On the 22nd December my SATA hard drive failed... all valuable work documents, pictures etc all gone....

fine.. I'm trying to digest this now and I proceed...

This evening after having killbox delete a file that simply would not get off my pc (it seemed to be like a trojan annoyance thing) - a file that wasn't even located on my C: drive - I rebooted (first I decided to play some Need For Speed Most Wanted - maybe I shouldn't have...). Now my C drive appears to be absolutely positively EMPTY... 100% free disk space No Windows no nothing.... I'm here with and Ultimate Windows Boot cd on the same pc and running tests. The C drive needs to be formatted apparently because it's now in RAW format...

Question is... can I manage to restore any of the files? (I'm intersted in my favourites, documents and digiatl art creations I made yet again... -I wasn't daunted by the other HD failure 6 days ago...)

I'm currently running PC INSPECTOR and so far it's found no files at all - nada to be recovered... Funny thing is the drive is showing up as HEALTHY and in RAW format in the Disk Management program that exists on the cd... lmao... har har...

HELPPPPPPPP I'm going insane... (plus I have my mother telling me that computers are the devil's offspring so... argh)

Hi, I had a 19.1 GB Gateway Desktop w/ WIN ME installed on it. I tried to install XP on it, not knowing that I needed a bigger hard drive, and (making a long story short) ended up erasing my hard drive. I bought a new computer and gave the Gateway to my cousin and now I'm trying to help her w/ fixing it.  :-? (and I don't know tooo much about the hardware side of computers lol)  I was just wanting to know, could she replace the old, erased hard drive with a new Western Digital Caviar Special Edition 80 GB Internal Hard Drive and then install Windows XP on the computer? Would we need anything else (like a boot disk) in order to install the hard drive? Sorry if these questions sound dumb but I'm clueless when it comes to actually programming the computer lol. As far as we know, the hard drive is erased. When you turn the computer on, the Gateway screen comes up and then it goes to a DOS screen (and I know nothing about DOS!!) I know I can physically replace the hard drive, I won't know what to do if a DOS screen comes up lol. Anyway..... *hopefully I don't come off as a complete idiot* lol Any help at all is appriciated! Thanks in advance!~ Kimmy

Answer:? about replacing an erased hard drive

The new hard drive will be no problem at all. No drivers needed to install it. You do however have to format it so after you have installed it in the machine boot up with the Western Digital cd in and run the disk prep tools. As to XP you might want to hold off on that since it was an ME machine and the hardware requirements might be a bit slim.Try and go for Win2K it's stable and basically XP without all the eye candy...patio.  8-)p.s. You can remove the old HDD for now until you are up and running...You can then add it on as a slave drive and use it for extra storage.Remember to set the jumper on the WD new drive at master and hook it to the end of the flat ribbon cable on IDE1p.s.s.  The power connector (4 pin is flat on one side) flat side towards the bottom of the drive. The ribbon cable can onlu go in one way as well there is a stub in the center that goes towards the top of the drive. Take your time pay attention and don't force anything and you should be runnin in no time...

My brother messed with it when he tried to "clone" his hard drive to mine. Needless to say it didn't work, and I my hard drive is unpartitioned.

Is my hard drive completely screwed or is there a way to partition it? How do I go about doing it?

Should I just buy a new hard drive and install a fresh copy of windows on that?

Interesting problem.....I backed up files to an external hard drive last night. When I came back this morning and started using the computer, I received an error saying:

Windows - Delayed Write Failed : Windows was unable to save all the data for the file. The data has been lost. This error may be caused by a failure of your computer hardware or network connection. Please try to save this file elsewhere.

After this, I checked the external hard drive and all of the files were gone. There were two folders that they were stored in and the folders themselves are still there, but the files are not. Also, the computer has been running extremely slow since the windows update ran about two weeks ago. Also, there was an error message coming up complaining about the virtual memory, so I adjusted the size of the page file.

I did some research on Google, but didn't really find a concrete answer....anyone have any ideas or heard of this happening before?

I've been using my external hardrive for backup for a couple of years. Today my computer would not allow me access: error message. I tried rebooting - no good. I scanned the drive for viruses. Message said it found and corrected a few errors. This time I gained access - only to find that the drive was blank. Message said "This folder is empty."

Tried hooking it up to my laptop - same message. Any ideas how I can recover my data? All my videos and raw footage are also on this drive.

Answer:external hard drive appears to be erased

What is the error message you are getting when you try to access the drive? this will help us to figure out what is going on and chances are the data is still there and may have just been marked for deletion so its flagged by the OS as to not be shown to you, you can try many unerase programs, or if you have a linux distro or live cd pop that in and boot up and see if linux sees the files, I just had the same sorta issue with my external windows was telling me nothing was there but I popped it into linux and now I can see all the info and its still intact.

I just finished erasing my hard drive from reference number CH000186. Now when I try starting the computer it has a message "not ready reading driver E Abort retry fail?". I haven't tried doing any of this type of thing before and I'm at a loss. My son tried installing XP over ME on our old basement computer and I don't know if it is trashed or what. I've tried rebooting with start up disks and many other things with no luck. I thought maybe if I erased the hard drive it would work. Am I just wasting my time or is there a solution? Thanks!

Answer:Erased hard drive noe not reading driver

You have to install operating system on erased hard drive. Right now, the hard drive is empty. You need to boot from Windows CD, and follow on-screen instructions.

Running winXP. Couldn't get past the welcome screen. I connected the hard drives to another computer. The C drive was almost blank. While it is a 20 gig drive, it showed as 92 gigs on My Computer. The D drive had all the files on it. Ran virus scan and it found a thousand infected files.

My question is can I restore any of the erased files on the C drive? It's an emergency. My daughter had 3 school essays in .doc files. Thanks

So I recently got fed up with my old Compaq laptops and got myself a mac all in one.

I was told at the Apple store that I can use my external hard drive on both the mac and the compaq. I tried to use it to put my files on the mac, but when I did only some of the files transferred, and when I went to open it up again on the compaq, it would not detect the external hard drive at all.

So now I do not have 90% of the files, and no computers will detect the external hard drive.

I bought a file recovery program from seagate, but that's confusing as well.

I want to be able to get my files back, and use my external hard drive again. I'm not sure if either is possible...
I'm not sure where to go from here, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!!!!!

im working with some new hp desktops with a pre-installed windows xp, which comes with a stupid recovery drive. so i set one up that way i wanted it and removed partition for recovery, it was a clean install of windows xp.
in the mean time while all of that was going on i put up the other computers, i got an idea of erasing all the the drives so they are ready for a new image.
well i took an image of the computer i set up with a clean install, went to put it on there and see the network card isnt configured, so i try installing windows on another and get blue screen 0x7b. i think the program i used to erase the hard drives erased the drivers as well. all the computers do the same thing and they all got wiped clean.

anyone have an idea on how to fix this?

I just plugged my external hard drive into a firewire plug of a Mac. I'm a PC person and do not know much about macs. After a while of looking for where the mac had a shortcut to my hard drive, i gave up. When i disconnected the hard drive a menu came up with the option to ignore, repair or try again... i tried all three. none of them got my hard drive to load up on the mac.

When i plugged my PC back up with the external hard drive, it says that it needs to be formatted... it no longer recognizes the old name or shortcuts that i had for it. I had my life in pictures, music and videos in that hard drive. I truly need to recover it. Is there anything I can do?

how can I repair it? or basically, how can i get my old files out and reformat it... any option will do. Please, help.

Well like you said, all your program files are still there n your HDD space is still the same, so your files should still be there. Trying running a search on one of your files and see

Another thing is that, the dialog box that says you dun have access to that folder you click. What user profile are you logging in as when you did this.

My guess is that, you had a different profile say jeff when you save this files and had accidentally made the access to this files private so only user jeff can access.

When you restore using the CD, was the previous user profile removed or was it intact.

I got a Western Digital Elements 1TB external hard drive, plugged it in, the drivers were installed (little pop up window saying so), then I decided to format the drive 'cause it came with all this stuff on it.

The thing is I erased the folder that said 'drvinstall' was that a mistake? Will the PC not recognize it or auto-install a driver without it?

I haven't unplugged it yet, and am wondering if I should put anything on it before I do so.

Answer:Erased DrvInstall folder on external hard drive.

The drivers are included with Windows, and were installed by Windows. That happens the first time you plugin a new external HDD or flash drive.

Welcome to the Forums.
AFAIK, not just lenovo but almost all OEM's have now integrated the recovery feature inside the HDD (which also allows you to create a recovery drive - see this guide).
Alternatively, you can also contact lenovo support on how to go about obtaining a recovery media.

Hey All,
I have a windows xp machine, a Lenovo 3000 j series tower. It has:
athlon x 2 4000+ dual core @ 2.1ghz
2gb ram
160gb hard drive - erased with no OS.
I would like to install windows 7 home edition. What's the best way to do this? Will the windows xp COA work on windows 7?

Answer:How to install windows 7 on an widows xp machine with erased hard drive?

As has been mentioned before, an XP product key is not applicable at all to Windows 7. To install Windows 7 you will need either the full product (OEM or consumer version) in which case it can be installed directly using its own product key, or a Windows 7 upgrade pack. The upgrade is also supplied with its own product key, but is intended to be installed as an upgrade to a functioning Windows installation. It can however only directly upgrade Windows Vista - even where a valid XP COA licence exists, a fresh installation needs to be done, so an erased hard drive is fine:

hi all i have got a hp recovery disc with windows me on it from an old computer will i be able to install this on a hp compaq lap top i am buying secound hand :-?

Answer:hp recover disc

Possibly, but I would doubt it... You see those recovery CDs are only programmed to run with an HP product, using a certain kind of motherboard, etc. if yours isn't on the list of them when this was made, it might not work. The same goes for some other components.Flame

Question: Recover Disc

My wife just bought an Acere desktop pc, with Vista Home Premium. She was told we could buy a Recovery disc for Ģ15, or create our own on DVD. She decided we would make our own. I followed the procedure in Vista, and it took 3 DVD's. I put the first disc in, to see if it would start up a recovery process. Nothing. It seems that, if I go in to Vista's recovery program, I can recover from these discs. What if Vista messes up completely, and I can't get in? How do I read the discs if they're not self booting?

Then I installed SP2 and then SP3. All fine. But when I enter online the 'product key' that is written on the sticker on the bottom of my PC, windows says it's bad product key, and it is refused. Is it because I installed XP Home, while it's written XP Professionnal on my laptop sticker ? So, if this is the reason, where could I download or get XP professionnal, so that my product key is accepted ?I have bought a Lenovo laptop with a XP product key, so I'm not asking for some hacked XP, but only legal solution to my problem ! I hope Lenovo team can help me. Answer:Lenovo 3000 N200 - hard disk erased - how to reinstall XP (no CD in pack)

Did you buy it new, or second hand? If new, there should have been a set of CDs with the notebook.  That set are your WinXP Pro OEM discs. The creamy white disc is your boot disc, and the silver ones are the WinXP Pro OEM restore data. By being foolhardy enough to erase everything on the HDD, you also may well have nuked the Rescue and Restore partitionWithout that partition, or the CDs, your only option is to contact Lenovo and buy a new set of CDs. As for your WinXP Home number not working, you likely have a copy of WinXP Home retail. The number on the sticker on the notebook is Win Vista Business OEM.The Lenovo WinXP Pro OEM restore CDs already have a valid number coded into the restore data. Jenifur Charne

Alright, hoping someone here might have a suggestion for me.
My laptop came preinstalled with XP Media Center. I purchased it right when Vista came out, so i also received a free Vista Home Premium upgrade.
Now, I am not ready to deal with Vista as my native operating system, at least not until the SP is released and the bugs are worked out. SOOoooo, I decided I wanted to tool around with my VPC 2007, load Vista there, and check it out.
Problem is this: The vista disk will only upgrade (understandably) the OS on this PC. So I tried to run the recover disk (that came with the PC) in the VPC. It's starts to load, but then pops up a huge box saying "WRONG MACHINE!".
So how do I convince the recovery disc that it IS on the right machine? Thanks for the help!

Good evening.

I have difficulties re-installing my Win7 on a Satellite L555 Laptop.
Last week I cought a "system check" virus, which allegedly could be removed by anti virus-software and a trojan remover. But to make sure that infection is without any residue I wish to format the HDD and re-install Win7.

Having an original Toshiba recovery-disc I hoped for an easy installation, but neither changing the BIOS-settings (inspite of the changed settings it booted normally via HDD instead of recovery disc) nor a Windows based recovery turned out successful. In the latter case I was told no valid Windows installation disc would have been found -despite having the recovery disc inserted and retrying it several times. Drive and disc are fine, I coul access them through Windows.

What can I do now? Why does Windows not accept the original recovery disc?

Additional Info: I had the HDD changed a few weeks ago, the new one came via snail-mail and I could easily install Win7 on it - from that very recovery CD that is now denoted by "invalid"...

Answer:Re: Recover Disc is not recognized

> Why does Windows not accept the original recovery disc?
In the whole story this question confuses me. Why should Windows accept recovery disc?

Start your notebook and press F12 several times. You will enter boot menu. Put recovery disc into optical disc drive. In the menu choose CD/DVD drive and press ENTER.

What happen when you do this?

I am about to give my 3000 c200 to my nephew, so I would like to factory restore my notebook. I have not created a Recovery Disc before (or perhaps I have lost it). I just tried to create one earlier, but the computer said I 'do not have the necessary files' in my computer to create the recovery disc. So the Lenovo Create Recovery Disc software just quit when I click 'Ok' to the above message without doing anything. I would like to know how could I create a recovery disc then? Or can Lenovo send one to me?

Answer:Cannot create recover disc

hi leosesk,
Welcome to the Lenovo Community.
If you followed this guide to create your factory default recovery disc and got that error, you may try to trigger the One Key Recovery button to restore the unit to factory default. See One Key Recovery outside Windows. If this fails, you will need to contact Lenovo Technical Support (click here) to get a recovery disc.
Hope this helps.

Im sorry to inform you that you will not be able to recover those files.....easily. CD media is not quite like HDD's once the data is written over or in this case erased it is actually gone. You could try seagate or a program called Finaldata claims to be able to recover info off of CD RW's. Good luck.

My NB200 11L is not booting properly. I don't have a recovery CD. I saw that Toshiba US offer a download service for recovery discs but couldn't find this service in UK toshiba website. Am I looking in the wrong place or could anyone help me get hold of a recovery cd?

When I try to boot the notebook from a Windows Xp installation CD I get the following error message:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is identified in the stop message. disable the driver och check with the manufacturer for driver updates. Try changing video adapters.

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use a safe mode to recover or disable components, restart your computer, press F8 to select Advanced Startup options, and then select SAfe Mode.

My laptop currently has a EFI System Reserved partition that I am trying to replace with the "typical" NTFS System Reserved partition (EFI is not supported under Ghost 15). Using recdisc.exe I have created a repair/recovery disc. The disc won't boot. I now have 2 coaster.

I have non-OEM (i.e. "retail") copies of Windows 7 SP1 on both CD and Flash, but both the repair console for both of those say it is not compatible with the version of Windows 7 installed.

Answer:Repair/recover disc won't boot

You'd have to back up and Clean Reinstall Windows 7 as EFI uses GPT disk initialization while Legacy BIOS uses MBR disk.

This also requires the BIOS has CSM or Legacy BIOS enabled, possibly Legacy BIOS first to boot. Set the hard drive first to boot in BIOS then trigger the DVD as a non-UEFI device if offered the choice when booting it. Delete all partitions to allow the installer to reset the disk type. If this fails, wipe the boot code using the commands in Troubleshoot Windows 7 Installation Failures - Windows 7 Help Forums.

Report back results along with exact UEFI settings choices if there are still hurdles.

I have deleted 'windows.old' as I know that was created from a previous re-install, but there is still a lot missing.

Answer:Recover disc space before re-install

During re-install you will be given the option to remove\delete existing partitions, and re-create them. This will likely reclaim the missing space.

Hi,Recently installed Acronis suite and commenced operation backup on to various DVDr's to release some much needed hard disk space. Trouble is, once all the information was backed up, i deleted the original from my computer.Last night i required an office programme that was located on one of the DVD's and upon launching Acronis to restore the information, the system stalled and a read error on the disc came up... i.e the disc in no good.Is there software on the market that will locate deleted programmes, not just word docs and Jpeg's??I need the complete file that contained exe's etc

First off I am not at the programs own forum cos I cant recall either my pword or username so cant login or re-register. Secondly, you guys here will give me an unbiased opinion. I use a freeware version of a well-known file erase program. I have used it for years and thought I was safe. However, needing to recover accidentally deleted (not erased) files I used the recovery program from the same company. As well as the deleted files it turned up a whole load (all? I dont know, there were hundreds) of files that I had intentionally erased. including 7-pass and 35-pass erasures. At first my reaction was - "this program does not work as advertised", then "hmm, it it because of the way I am doing it?" When I have files to erase I move them to a temp folder and when convenient run the program. Does this mean that I am somehow creating a copy which stays in some archive or memory and it is these that are being recovered? Another odd thing: Using the file recovery tool I have "recovered" files that were never even deleted - but they were opened in grafix programs and altered, but NEVER deleted. Do these programs create their own library of used files and then "delete" them when the program or the pc is shut down? If I overwrite empty drive space with any old rubbish will that "sanitize" the drive? Thank you.

Answer:Solved: I can recover "erased" files and files I have never deleted

Hi everyone! I am very new here, Still learning(at least trying) all about computer tech! Thank you for reading!

* I have a Asus L4L, XP,

Few days ago, my laptop I think crashed. I was trying to recover it by using the recovery disc but it failed me.

Before I say anything. I have to admit that I was very very stupid that I didn't back up my files... and there are many important photos of my father whom passed away 3 years here I am asking for your help...

I wanted to save all my file under D: so I chose to recover with recover to first partition only.

First time I tried, in the middle of the recovery it showed > PowerQuest PQImage window and wanted me to insert media 2 containing file"Y:\ASUS.002 into drive Y" OK or No ( I don't believe i have the kinds of disc anyway)after I pressed OK then it showed, The media does not contain the file. But if I press No then it stop reccover. I had to reboot from that point.

Then I tried it again it showd error#1822, Error: No partitions selected...

I tried it with the XP disc, same thing happened.

Then I tried reboot to window xp, it showed rebooting to windows XP then C:\PQER....

I am really lost and have no idea what's happening with my laptop. I really need your help!

Thank you so much!

Answer:Asus Laptop can't recover using the recovery disc!

Probably not what you want to hear, but if you are not familiar with reinstalls etc, and the pics are important, pehaps try a data recovery company first to get the images. The reason why I say this is I lost a whole partitioned drive of core files, by which I mean my PhD work once exactly through this infernal process, a reinstall in one partition made both partitions unreadible. I wish I had not messed with the drive and thought a bit more about the process at the time and got the data off first. Luckily I had backed most of my data up.

Installed a new Hitachi 500g as my hardrive has failed. Lenovo has sent me two different sets of recover discs and both have an identical problem. Everything installs as expected up to the point where it says "insert disc 3", which is the so disc. Once I insert the disc and click  "OK" to continue the "OK" button just pops up again and I click it and it pops up again and never moves forward. An ideas? The lenovo shell that that lists the steps of the install (install onekey, create d partion, etc..) is stuck at C:\PRAVDA\Crisscrossed 52999

My Pc, Is Full Of Useless/Corrupt Stuff Now.

It Crashes Regularly.

I Have Formatted The Secondary Partition Without Problems, But To Format The Primary, You Need The Windows Disc.

Is There A Way Of Formatting Without Windows Discs Or Expensive Third Party Programs?

Answer:How Do You Format An XP Hardrive, Without The Installation Or Recover Disc?

Yes but the question is How are you going to re-install windows?

Try this but read about it and learn how to use it:

How do I go about making a recovery disc for my A210 (PSAFJE-003003KS), according to pc world it should have come with a disc, but it didn?t, and although there is one on the harddrive i'd like to have a physical one as my laptops been acting up lately.

Answer:Re: How to recover the Equium A210 - Don't have recovery disc

I think your notebook supports the HDD recovery!
Therefore it should be possible to perform the Recovery procedure without an usage of the Toshiba Recovery Disk.

Just press the F8 button immediately after notebook was powered up.
Then choose ?Repair my Computer? -> new window should open.
There you have to choose last option called ?Toshiba Recovery? and follow the instruction on the screen.

Please note that this procedure will set the notebook back to the factory settings and will format the whole HDD!!!

I'm on an HP laptop that originally came with Windows Vista. At some point a while back, I purchased Windows 7 online and upgraded the OS by download--meaning I don't have any physical installation discs.

Now I would like to some how recover this computer to it's factory settings, to wipe all installed programs and files, but I would prefer not to be downgraded back to Vista. Is this possible?

I don't believe I made recovery discs while Vista was installed either. Is it possible to recover the computer at all?

Thank you for any feedback

I have an IDE drive that I would call intermit. I mean I was able to access it once in a gazillion tries with a jury rigged Roswill thingamajig using Dead Disc Doctor on my home brew computer. I recovered several files before it stopped working altogether. My question:Does anyone know of a better way or possibly better software similar to what I hear about the FBI using on TV?I have tried putting it in the freezer for awhile, thumping it in various attitudes. I was using this drive for several years and wrote a number of short stories onto it I want to recover. Good stuff...Thanks for any Ideas.Copas

Answer:Popssible recover data from dead disc drive?

Hi Copas What drive is it the model would be enough info  . What happens when you try to access it, is it detected correctly in the bios and if not what is it detected as ?The best tool to check the drive is MHDD from here for future reference freezing a drive is a No no. Knocking a drive is the same. The best way is to have all the software tools available. Check the computer and cables with a known good drive. If this is the first time you have used the software get familiar with it on a known good system first. Then attach the failing drive, listen, watch the bios identification of the drive, if either sound or look wrong turn the computer off. Until the drive is detected in the bios correctly no software except MHDD will be safe accessing the drive so don't try.If you come back with answers to the above I am happy to advise you of the steps you can take.ThankyouLisa_maree

If you know much about recovery disc, I think you will know recovery disc is the best choice for Windows 7 admin password reset besides another administrator. The recovery disc includes password reset disk and system recovery disc. Password reset disk is easy to create before Windows 7 locked. While if you want to create password reset disk after you couldn?t log on to Windows 7, you have to ask for help from third-party software. For example, Windows Password Genius is conceivable option. System recovery disc can be instead of installation disc, if you have back up your Windows 7 Home Premium. But if you have not done that, it doesn?t matter. System recovery disc also could be created after you are unable to boot your Windows 7, as long as you find a computer with same Windows operational system. You have to create system recovery disc on it. For example, 64-bit System Repair Disc can only be created on a 64-bit Windows 7. You can check the properties about computer through Control Panel ? System and Security ? System, or right click the Computer and choose Properties. Now let?s see how recovery disc reset Windows 7 Home Premium admin password.1. Password reset disk reset Windows 7 admin password2. System recovery disc reset Windows 7 admin password 1. I think I may have found an answer to my boot problem. After reading the tutorial on system image restore I saw this statement.

"You can fool it into thinking that simply by marking the 7 partition as active.

May be as well to make it a "secondary" system partition , by copying across the relevant files - in case you forget to hand the active flag back"

How would I be able to make my "C" WIN7 drive my system drive instead of my "D" Vista drive. Right now my "D" Vista is my system drive.
Or, can I have two system drives at the same time? Remember these are on TWO SEPERATE hard drives.

Answer:How to make a hard disc a system disc

First make sure you are set to see hidden and protected files in Windows Explorer.

Copy bootmgr file from D: to C:
Copy boot folder from D: to C: and tell it to skip over copying bcd and bcd.log when it prompts.

Run this command from an elevated command prompt. You may copy and paste into it. Hit enter.

bcdedit /export C:\boot\bcd

Reboot into bios and change the primary boot device to be your C: drive.

Boot to Windows and make sure C: is now the system drive. If so, you may delete the boot folder and bootmgr file on D:

If you want two "system drives" so in case one fails you'll be able to boot from the other, don't delete anything and use bios to change drives in this instance.

New to the forums, kind of a novice with computers and I'm at a loss with what to do.

Okay so my Acer Aspire 7551 running Windows 7 Premium Home 64bit was acting funny so I decided to do a system restore. So I put in the Acer Recovery Discs that I made when I first purchased the computer. Now I have used this discs before with no problems at all. So I put the first disc in, selected the option to do a complete system restore back to factory defaults. It's my understanding that this completely wipes the OS off the HDD. So the first disc ran with no problems. I put the second disc in and got an error message:

Fail to copy to HDD:
Press OK to continue

I press OK to continue, and it boots back to the BIOS screen. Then it goes to a black screen and says BOOTMGR IS MISSING. PRESS CTRL+ALT+DEL TO CONTINUE.

So I put the recovery disc back in to try the process over again and same thing happens.

Any help you guys could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:BOOTMGR missing, Acer Recover Disc failing to copy...

According to the Users Guide:

To start the recovery process:
1 Restart the system.
2 While the Acer logo is showing, press <Alt> + <F10> at the same time to
enter the recovery process.
3 Refer to the onscreen instructions to perform system recovery.
Important! This feature occupies 15 GB in a hidden partition on
your hard disk

See if that works for you.
