Laptop will not turn on (Dell Inspiron e1505)

Question: Laptop will not turn on (Dell Inspiron e1505)

Hi, I am hoping you guys(or gals)can offer some help.
My laptop is not even 2 years old (Dell Inspiron e1505)
I went to turn it on, and it would not start up.
Instead, it would power on and the screen would say black.
The fan would come on the power light would come on. Also,
the number lock and scroll lock lights would blink, and the caps lock
light was solid. I could hear the hard drive thinking about starting up.
This would last about 30 seconds, and then it would power off.
I read around the internet and found a solution, which was to
"reseat the memory". I took the bottom access panel off the memory
and took the chips out of the A and B slots. I then put them back in
securely and made sure they were in. IT SEEMED to work, when i turned
it on, the lights were no longer blinking. It started to power up (but the screen was still black) and it powers on for about 7 seconds and then just dies.
Please help if you can, I cannot afford a new computer and hope there is a simple solution. Thank you so much - Nick

Hi, I still cant get the computer to turn on.
It powers on for 3 seconds, the screen never comes on.
The computer shuts off.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Laptop will not turn on (Dell Inspiron e1505)

1) HellRell. Stop spamming please. Posting more than once with the SAME thing in the post content is unacceptable... especially 3 times... in a row...

2) You said it worked for a moment after you reseated the RAM. This may suggest that there is a RAM failure. Try replacing your RAM. That's the simplest possible solution from what you've said here, that may work.

3) It sounds like you might have hit the typical DELL defect in well... just about everything... After about 2 years, the computer stops working and does something like that... I believe this is a dell conspiracy to get you to buy another one, however that might just be my opinion/superstition.

hi my e1505 wont turn on when i press the power button, no light...no sound...nothing. Preceding this was an accident where orange juice was spilled on the bed where the e1505 was sitting but i think it only crept in where the cpu radiator vents are, so i opened it up thoroughly cleaned everything on the top and bottom of the mobo with rubbing alc and put it all back together and pushed power and no go. although its sounds like a mobo issue i have a sneaking suspicion its the tiny little board that holds the actual power button because in the past(before the orange juice) i would have this problem where it wouldn't do anything and that was eventually solved by pushing really really hard down on the power button, so i feel like it could be that the little power board's connections are weak or the power board itself is fried.

any thoughts?

Answer:Dell Inspiron e1505 wont turn on

The power board or motherboard could be damaged or shorted by the orange juice or by static electricity... when you disassembled the laptop

Hi guys,

I have a laptop I'm working on that will not turn on/ charge. I've tried a different adapter to no avail. I've also taken a battery from an equally rated Dell Inspiron (different model) laptop and it does not turn on with that either.

I've replaced the charging component off a motherboard before but this one is different as it is not simply a connector that goes from the charging outlet and plugs into the motherboard somewhere. It is just a piece that is soldered on and I can't tell what route it's taking.

I've tested the charger using a multimeter and it outputs ~ 19.5v so it should be fine. Any ideas?

EDIT: After doing some research online, I found that the center pin of the charger 'port' (on motherboard) sometimes goes in. Has anyone replaced one of these? If so, do you just unsolder it and solder in the new one? Someone mentioned putting some solder in the center and that fixes it?

Answer:Solved: Dell Inspiron E1505 Won't Charge / Turn on

Does anything at all happen when you try to power it up, any lights flashing or sounds ?

If it doesn't work with a charged up battery there is a hardware problem inside the laptop.
If it was just the power socket it should still work from battery power.

I would try charging the problem laptop's battery in the other laptop then try it in the problem laptop.

I have a Dell inspiron E1505 with windows XP multimedia.Power interruptions are frequent here. When AC power fails the screen display continues because of internal battery back up.But the external broadband modem stops working due to loss of power and the laptop screen freezes .The mouse pointer and the key board also freeze making it impossible even to choose hibernate to save the work done as the only option is to press the power button to shutdown the computer and start it again loosing all work done in the process. Please help to avoid this problem .

Hello, my name is Kim. I've had to seek help (concerning this same laptop) from your site before and was so happy with it, Im seeking your help once again!  It's concerning this same laptop as before...a Dell Inspiron E1505, with  Windows 7 Ultimate SP1, as the OS. The issue is that it's running VERY slow...it starts up slow and once started, loads pages S L O W!  Very frustrating, because until fairly recently, it seemed to be just fine. I have AVG 2015 free edition, as the anti-virus and have run a full scan on it, with zero negative threats to post.  I also downloaded Spybot - Search & Destroy and have also run a full scan and turned up 77 (I think) threats, which were 'fixed' & quarantined. It still seems to be very slow. However I did just check to see how much disk space is free, and was surprised to find that only 2.87 GB free, of 111 GB. Would that be the reason why it's so slow? Any help you can offer, would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks in advance!

Answer:Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop very slow to load pages, etc.

Do you see the problem in safemode with networking? Try downloading Speccy and then install the program.  To post and publish a snapshot of your PC.. In the Menu bar, click File -> Publish Snapshot. Click Yes > then Copy to Clipboard. On your next reply, right-click on a empty space and click Paste on reply box then click Post. Download SecurityCheck.exe from Here. Run SecurityCheck and follow the instruction from inside the code box.. When the scan is finished, a notepad will automatically open as check.txt   Please copy and paste the contents here on your next reply. Download MiniToolBox and run the program. SelectList Last 10 Event Viewers, List Installed Programs and List Users, Partitions and Memory Size then click Go.A notepad will open then copy-paste the report on your next reply.

Hello,

Ive had a Dell Inspiron E1505 for about 4 years now.

-Windows XP Home SP3
-Genuine Intel CPU T2400 @ 1.83 ghz - x2 (Centrino Duo)
-1 GB of RAM
-EHM OTENWT6 SCSI CdRom Device
-PHILIPS DVD +-RW SDVD8820

I've never had any problems with my cd drive until today when I was ripping a burnt cd. When the cd had 3 songs left to rip it stopped and wouldn't rip no more (the cd was pretty scratched), so I tried to rip just the last 3 songs ( 3 attempts, 1 for each song) with no luck. I ejected the disc and put in a different one (non burnt) and the audio was jumpy and skipping. I tried other cds since then and they all have jumpy and skipping audio, I tried a dvd and the audio was the same way (the video was affected a little if any at all).

Although, I have a video game already installed on my computer (which takes the game disc to play), and I put in the game disc and the audio was just fine, it loaded up and I played it for minute.
I CAN play audio from the harddrive and the internet and it sounds just fine.
I CAN still rip cds with windows media player, and when I play them back it sounds just fine.
I have nottried to burn anything yet.

ALSO, the light on my cd drive's door flashes (maybe insync with the skipping audio, kinda seems like it).

I read a similiar thread on here(but different!) and someone said to look in device manager under "IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers", then go to it's properties, then go to advanced tab and change it to DMA, bu... Read more

My home laptop computer (I say home because it is mostly used by my more-technology-challenged-than-me wife and my 3 1/2 year old son) will not boot up. I get a message that says "PBR 2...failed" right after the Dell splash screen.

Nothing else happens after that.

I am using a Dell Inspiron E1505 running Windows XP. The battery is dead (like all Dell E1505 batteries after one year), but other than that, it has been working fine.

The last thing I installed was a browser toolbar from UPromise (a 529 shopping rewards organization). The computer worked fine for at least a few days after that install.

I have tried using what I believe is the boot CD. It went through some processing - probably took about 30-45 minutes - started to boot up again, then failed with the same message.

Answer:Can't get my laptop to boot up, Dell Inspiron E1505 stops after "PBR 2...failed" msg

I ran the Diagnostics (after hitting F12 for BIOS) and it stopped at --Start DST Short Test-- Test Results: Fail Error Code: 1000-0146 Msg: Unit 0:DST Log contains previous error(s)

It then asks if I want to continue testing.

I did and got a separate error:

1000-0141 - No hard drive detected

Any help would be appreciated.

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 that I've upgraded with a T5600 Core 2 Duo CPU, a pair of PC5300 2gig SODIMMs and a 500 gig hard drive.

I downloaded the "media refresh" X17-59465.iso updated x64 ISO of Windows 7 and made a bootable USB stick to install it.

Partway through installing it popped an error about not having a driver. Restarted, it boots off the hard drive, gets to the Starting Services screen then pops another box saying it can't install Windows.

I know other people have installed x64 Win 7 on this exact model with a Core 2 Duo CPU upgrade so what's the trick to making it work? I also know it will use around 3.5gig of RAM.

Would going back to the 1.5gig of PC4200 that was in it get Win7 to complete its install?

Answer:x64 on a Dell Inspiron E1505.

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup, reset to defaults, save changes. If an EFI BIOS you'll need to decide if you want UEFI BIOS vs. Legacy BIOS. If UEFI follow these special steps for Install, otherwise enable Legacy BIOS or Compatibility Support Module to proceed with normal install:

Set DVD drive first to boot, HD second, set SATA controller to AHCI, Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into Windows 7 installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here. I would use a fresh ISO written with tool in Step 2 as yours is in question.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10, or enter System Recovery Options to open a Command Box, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT

Next click Install Now, then Custom install to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.

After install you can adjust partition size or Create new partitions for data, etc. in Disk Mgmt. You are creating the partition here for the purpose of wiping the HD and marking Active which overcomes certain install failu... Read more

I have an older Dell Inspiron E1505 lap top that when I close the lid the screen goes black. When I return and open it the screens still black and I have to turn it off and restart. Is there anything I can do to fix this?
Thank you for any help.

Answer:Dell Inspiron E1505

It sounds like the button that the screen touches to turn off the display is stuck in the down position. It would be located close to where the display hinges are located. See if you can move it to the up position and have the display come on.

The hard fix would be to take the laptop apart and examine the button.

When I press the power button on the computer the two green light "A" and " arrow" flash for 2 seconds and stops but the computer does not power up.
how can I solve this?

Answer:Dell Inspiron E1505

Here is some info from a Dell Moderator in Dell's Inspiron forum:

If your system will not power on try some or all of the following.

>Remove the ac adapter and the battery for two minutes then reconnect the ac adapter and try powering the system up.

>Remove the ac adapter, the battery, and the harddrive then put the harddrive back in and try it on ac power only.

>Try starting the system without the harddrive in the system.

>Remove hardware components one at a time and see if the system will start after that.

If the system will not power up with a certain hardware component install then that component may be faulty.

If the system will not power on no matter what, then the processor or motherboard may be faulty.

I just had a chance to buy the basic edition of Windows 7 on the cheap, so I took advantage even though I'm not sure if it'll work on my Inspiron e1505, which is currently running XP. I checked the minimum requirements on the box, and figured I meet them all so I picked it up. I ran the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, and that seemed to confirm that I can run it. I have a 1.8 GHz processor and 1 GB of ram. The only issue is that my computer is not listed as a Windows 7 compatible system on Dell's website: http://support.dell.com/support/topi...7&docid=364750

So who do I believe? Dell's website or the Windows 7 upgrade advisor?

Answer:Should I upgrade my Dell Inspiron e1505 to 7?

well if it was me i would would check to see if there is any drivers for 7 for your machine and if there are you will want to get more ram even thow windows 7 will run on 1gb be much better if you had 2gb. but i think you will be better off with xp on that machine.

My sister's laptop was recently booting but the screen wouldn't turn on. This had happened before, and the problem usually took care of itself, so I plugged it into an external monitor. Upon booting, I had realized that the keyboard and touchpad (including buttons) also weren't working. Is there a reason that this was happening all of a sudden?

EDIT:
The front media buttons also stopped responding or glowing blue.

Check device manager and see if the drivers are missing or not. If there is a yellow exclamation then there's a problem with the drivers, and will need to be reinstalled.

Hey guys, my friend just reformatted his hardrive on his Dell Inspiron E1505 running Windows XP. We are both students in college right now and are having trouble getting the wireless network running on his computer. I know that the driver for the wireless internet card has to be re-installed, but I only have my Dell Resource CD for my E1705; he doesn't have the on that came with his. I tried installing a few of the internet card drivers on his computer from my CD, but none of them are picking up a wireless network. Are the drivers on his CD and my CD different? If they aren't, which driver am I supposed to be installing, because none of them seem to be working? If they are different, is there any place that I can find the driver necessary to run on his computer?
Thanks a lot guys, appreciate it.

REPOSTED FROM HOPEFULLY IN WRITE PLACE NOWhttp://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/ind...p;#entry1065377Over the Christmas holiday, well actually before that, but that is when i discovered the problem(s). My Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop was infected with "something" I say some thing because im not sure how to classify it. This thing had been hidding on my computer for several months it had enabled remote access to my computer, it was copying all my instant messages, it had uploaded all my song, videos (media), personal documents up to an online file storage location for someone else to view. When i would boot up my computer it would put me in a seperate shell, so who ever owned the "virus" could take control of my desktop with out me knowing. It replaced my AVG antivirus program with access to a colorfull java picture-show of AVG updating and scanning, but it was just an interactive image doing nothing. It/ or someone at this point went into my administrative tools section and replaced the links on the shortcuts to make them point away from windows system directory to files the placed on my hard drive, so i was unable to put my settings back to normal from there. it/they then altered my local security policy so that these settings could then only be changed, deleted remotely. All local access was restricted to view. The only discovery i made out of any of this that might help someone else before this thing gets to far, is that this thing seems to start off hidding itself as Adobe... Read more

I hope I am posting in the right section of the forum.

I have a Dell Inspiron e1505 notebook (laptop). it now won't power on!

I checked if my power adapter has a problem, but my power adapter works fine when connected to my friend's laptop.

When I switch on the power, the LED lamp on adapter is glowing green. As soon as I insert the adapter pin into my laptop, the LED turns off! And no LED on laptop would ever blink.

Can somebody please guide me? Thank you!

Answer:Dell Inspiron e1505 won't power on

Lots of folks are having trouble with the power socket for the adapter cable breaking loose from the board. Does your jack wiggle at all or otherwise feel loose?

Also, that Dell model has a lot of trouble with the inverter to the screen burning out. Everything will light up except the screen. A new inverter costs $5 to $9, but takes some work to install.

Hi all, hope someone out there can help me with this problem.

Last year my girlfriend gave me her old Dell inspiron e1505 laptop to fix. I had my buddy test it and we figured the motherboard was the problem. After a few months (and motherboards....eg: wrong one, sent back original for repair....) I got the correct motherboard from eBay...refurbished from Dell, put it together and it's still not firing up. I get the battery light on and when I hit the power button the other three lights light for a second and then they go out and nothing happens. I don't hear any signs of life either.

Of course, needless to say I could buy another laptop but thats not the point. I need to figure out what's wrong with this one.....its about not letting it win.

Oh, and also my girlfriend came up behind me to console me (an attempt to keep me from crying) and I shot a static arc from somewhere on the computer (after it already wasn't booting up)....doesn't look like there was any damage and it's still behaving the same way with the three lights. I don't think this caused any damage.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks....

Jon

I am searching for way to power up a Dell Inspiron E1505 without opening the lid.
I set the Dell to wake up by USB device in Bios. Then I connected it to a USB
wireless keyboard and mouse. When I tried these devices the computer did not
come on. Why is my Dell not coming on? Any suggestions on how to make the
Dell come on without opening the lid?

I'm a new member and a computer dinosaur who cut his teeth on the now ancient
DEC PDP11 and VAX series computers. That was back when 16k core required three boards to function (about the same room as the complete inside chassis of todays tower). Oh yeh, we actually repaired these monsters to componet level. You know, transistors, diodes, capacitors, inductors,.....etc.

technology overran me and I now need help whith my wifes DELL Inspiron 1505.

Tried to load drivers for a new HP printer, scanner, fax and had trouble getting it to take. Tried again and still no good. It seemed to go forever. After awhile I rebooted and got a stop0x00000024) message indicated a bunch of hex addresses. Tried to boot up stand alone but the same stop message appeared again.

Tried to boot (BIOS)and check drive bootup sequence, but it required me to put in a password or admin. Is there a default password for thyis? I do not recall ever setting one? Any suggestions??

Need help! I had to reformat my Dell Inspiron E1505. I found the drivers on the Dell support site and their recommended order for installation. How do I know which drivers are for my computer? There are 64 drivers total. I tried installing all of them which made a real mess, so I reformatted again rather than dealing with it. I'm back to a clean slate. What do I do???

Answer:Which drivers do I use after reformatting Dell Inspiron E1505

You haven't told us which OS you're using. The first one I would download is the "Chipset Driver". Use the Intel mobile one. You can always enter in the service tag number on the bottom of the laptop to find out what is supposed to be in that particular unit.

My Dell Inspiron E1505 has been running incredibly slow for the past few weeks. It seems to have been slowly deteriorating for several months now, but in recent weeks has gotten worse and worse. I've followed all of the instructions in the "READ & RUN ME FIRST" thread, but no malware was found (other than a few tracking cookies which have been deleted). A friend had recently installed Norton for me, which I uninstalled after hearing bad things about it - it seemed to coincide with the timing of when the laptop started getting worse. I recently got the "blue screen of death" also.

Right now I have AVG8 installed, but I've been told that it's resource hungry. I really haven't a clue exactly what is making the machine run so slowly. Since i work from home, it's really important that I have my laptop working well. Please, please, please help!

Answer:Dell Inspiron E1505 running slowly

I do try to keep up with the procedures listed in the Basic Comp Maintenance on a fairly regular basis. As for Norton, I did use the official uninstall tool, but I've only used it once. I'll run it again after I post this.

When I tried to uninstall AVG8, I got this error message:

Uninstall failed!
1 error occurred. Click Details to show more information.

If the problems continue please contact the technical support [email protected]

When I pressed the "Details" button, it showed this message:

Local machine: installation failed
Installation:
Error: Action failed for registry key HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows: creating registry key....
Error 0x80070005

I'm about to run the Norton official uninstall again and then reboot.

Well my girlfriend has a Dell inspiron e1505 and she told me that she has been having a major problem with it for awhile. Her battery will a lot of the time refuse to charge, meaning right when she unplugs it, it shuts off. However, sometimes it will charge, but when it does this it last for an hour and half. But most of the times it does not do this. She has told me she looked up the problem and many people experience this problem and that even if you buy a new battery it still will happen. She has yet to ever replace her battery and i know she has had it for more then a year now. But before i go out and buy a battery for her what do you guys think could be wrong with it?

Hi i am soon going to purchase a dell inspiron e1505 from my friend. However i am still trying to figure out what kind of video card the laptop has! I have checked several different sources, including the BIOS of the computer itself, vista device manager, and the ati radeon program installed on the laptop. I have gotten extremely conflicting results! the BIOS says 128mb, the ati radeon program says 256mb and the vista device manager says something weird like 841mb. I am going to ignore the device manager because it makes no sense. What i have determined is that it seems that its 128mb but theres some sort of hypermemory which seems to make it 256mb, could someone please help me to understand how hypermemory works, and what i really want to know is, will i be able to install a game that requires 256mb, or is the extra 128mb the hypermemory adds simply overclocking it. I anxiously awaiting your answers.

Thanks guys-Brendan

I have an old dell inspiron 1505. I've had to restore it to factory settings numerous times and I was trying again. It gets so slow after about 3 months. So every 3 months I have to restore it. Anyways, I do the whole ctrl, F11 thing when it starts up. It goes to the system restore page but when I click to the the restore it starts for about 1 minute then says there's an error with the System Restore. If I just try startin up the computer it says there's an error and to press alt, ctrl, del, to restart. That still doesnt work. How do I get it completely restored?

I've tried live chats and no one will answer my question. They just ignore me. It's my school computer and I need it fixed ASAP.

Hello. I have been having problems with my laptop keyboard (Dell Inspiron E1505).
Periodically the keys b,n, /, space bar, and 3 of 4 arrow keys stop working. Initially I thought the problem must be an obstruction or due to the keyboard, so I replaced the keyboard with a new one. The same problems occur, with the same keys. I have removed the keyboard a few times to check the connection of the keyboard to the laptop, but it has not improved.
From there, I looked around for other possibilities. I scanned my computer for any malware, viruses, etc with Ad-Aware, McAfee, Norton, but have not found anything. I tried to update the driver for the keyboard, but it is up to date. Is there anything else from software, windows, etc that could be causing the problem or is it due to hardware?
Thank you

Answer:Keyboard problems on Dell Inspiron E1505

Luckily, keyboards are cheap (er)... We have seen a number of problems with 1505 and related keyboards. Replacements are available on eBay for $14 to $26 with free shipping. They do go bad on nearly all laptops, but the 1505 has had a higher record of failure than most Dell laptops.

All my parents will be doing with it is internet use and organizing pictures and things like that. It's about time for a clean install of any OS on it.

Hi,

How would I go about figuring out how to make my mouse pad on my laptop scroll with the use of my finger on the right side of the little pad like it always did. I used to be able to restart and it would work again but this is not working now. Recently had to get a new hard drive is there some kind of software that allows this function?

Answer:Question about mousepad on dell inspiron e1505

There should be software that supports this feature for your laptop, you should be able to find the driver from them. Here is the link to the Dell Site.

just a few hours ago, a small pot of water spilled directly to my old-ish laptop, and it shut down instantly. I unscrewed the bottom and propped up a fan next to the exposed inside, and now the computer turns on again!
However, the screen does not. Whenever I turn it back off, it does so instantly. The same exactly thing happened to this poor laptop 3 years ago, when a quarter-cup of soda entered through the keyboard. Last summer, it worked again!
But, not as much liquid entered the laptop, so I`m sure the damage isn`t as severe. Plus, the computer still turns on, so I`m not completely hopeless.

I don`t want to spend a bunch of money sending it to GeekSquad or Dell, or wait a long time so it can dry off or whatever. Can anybody tell me what to do to get the monitor working again?

Hey guys,

Hope somebody can help me out with this. I have had malware/spyware problems before and been able to treat them. Today, I had the traditional "your system is infected" popups, attempting to get me to click thru and buy something, even with AVG and Ad-Aware running in the background, but that's another gripe for another day.

Anyway, I shut down to reboot in safe mode to attempt to fix - and now I cannot reboot. The "DELL" screen comes up, and then the screen goes black. Its getting power, the hard drive is spinning, but it will not boot - in regular mode or safe mode.

I've read some things about flashing LED codes online, by LED's aren't flashing - only the power light and number lock light are lit. It doesn't try to boot and then shut down, it stops booting and stays on. I have reseated the memory, tried to boot with just the power chord in with no battery and I have nothing else plugged in.
I know its old (had it since 2006) and part of me thinks it may just be its time, but i also don't want to assume that since there was the virus popup right before hand. Would love to try to squeeze another year or so out of it!

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Dell Inspiron E1505 will not boot - possible malware cause?

Do you have, or have access to a retail copy of a XP installation CD? This will need to be the same version as the one install on your computer. If not, try the following.Download NTBR_CD.exe and create a bootable CD. * Save the file to your Desktop and double-click it. This will create a folder named NTBR_CD. * Open the folder and locate BurnItCD. Launch it by double-clicking it. * When BurnCDCC opens, click Start - the CD tray will open. * Insert blank CD and click OK. * The tray will close, burn the image then eject the disk.Run chkdsk. * Boot the affected computer with the new CD. (You may need to change the boot order in the BIOS so that the CD-ROM is the first device in the boot order.) * Once presented with the boot screen please hit <ENTER> to boot from CD. * After a warning screen there is a keyboard language options screen - press <ENTER> to leave it at EN-US. You should now be at the Tool options screen. * Type 5 and press <ENTER> to go to a command prompt. At the command prompt type the following bolded command then press <ENTER> tools\ntfs4dos\chkdsk You will be prompted (in German) to press Enter. * Press <ENTER> to start the check disk utility. Check Disk will check all attached drives and attempt to correct any errors. Please make a note of any errors found or corrections made. * When it completes type "menu" and press <ENTER> to return to the tools menu. * Type 6 and press <ENTER> ... Read more

A few days back a thick pink band started appearing on my dell lcd. This caused my pictures to appear bad, but i was still using the laptop. A few days later the laptop screen started displaying poor artifacts, flickering and blanked out after a while. All through when connected to an external montor the display was perfect.

Today i replaced the LCD, inverter and video cable with those i pulled from another working inspiron e1505 (my friend's).

While the pink band is gone on my e1505, the poor display artifact, flicker and blanking out continues.
When i boot up the Dell logo will appear some times and the display will flicker all the way till i land on the page where i select the log in user. Once i select the user and land on the desktop and after a while the screen will blank out. All through the picture i seen on the lcd is of poor quality.

Hello,

I have had my dell inspiron e1505 for about 4 years now. I have gone through two batteries, but actually currently have the original battery back in my computer because it lasted longer than the replacement.
However, my computer will no longer charge the battery....

My friend has the exact same computer so I have done a few tests...
For help in communication here is some annotation:

My computer:
computer A
Power cord A
Battery A

Friend:
computer B
Power cord B
Battery B

I put my battery A in her computer B...and her computer B charged my battery A with her power cord B, but not with my power cord A.

I tried to use her power cord B on my computer A, but my battery A still would not charge...

I put her battery B, into my computer A, but it would not charge with EITHER power cord A or B....

So...I think I have come to a conclusion that something is broke inside my computer....
Is there something on the motherboard that chatges that battery?
Or, could it possibly be something easier to fix...
I am a student studying abroad in Rome right now, and computer parts aren't really readily available....

PLEASE help

Carrie

Hi
My dell e1505 laptop, which I've had for a little over 2.5 years, won't start up. I turn it on, and it loads past the screen that says "PBR 2... Done" and then the screen with a gray loading bar at the bottom appears. The bar fills up about 1/4 of the way, then the laptop freezes.
It doesn't budge after that until I turn it off, and when I turn it back on, it does the same thing. I don't want to have to reformat, I don't even know if reformatting would help, but I'm lost at this point.
Any help would be nice. Thanks.

Answer:is dell inspiron e1505 compatible with windows 7?

Hi there,

You'd be surprised at the amount of systems that can run Windows 7 now.
Dell's support website does not have any drivers listed, but you can run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to get a good idea.

http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/downloads/upgrade-advisor

If you're not using any MS specific applications (Office etc.) then you could always move to Ubuntu which is great for web browsing and basic computer tasks. It also uses very little resource when compared to Windows.

I recently installed my WIndows XP home edition with service pack 2 to my laptop and some of the drivers for my dell inspiron e1505 are missing. I tried going to the dell website to install the drivers and the application file could not be read (EXE files). The only reason i reformatted my computer because i started receiving messages like 'application could not be read by win32'. Unable to verify windows xp w/o internet access. The missing drivers are(under other drivers): ethernet controller, pci driver, base system device X3, network controller, SM Bus controller, Video Controller, Video controller (vga compatible). I already tried connecting my ethernet cord directly to the cable modem and it still doesn't work. Usually people that visit just have to connect their internet cord to access the internet. I tried connecting wirelessly and i have a feeling that driver is missing on my dell. I tried setup a connection and doesn't work the option that automatically detects internet. Before i formatted the computer, the computer had no problems connecting wireless and to the internet. Just all the these drivers are gone.

If only i cannot connect to the internet i should be able to go to dell sites and install software. When i visit the dell drivers download list, it tries to install to my computer. I don't want to install it to my PC (which other computer). Just using my PC to download stuff on usb and transfer to laptop, but none of the files could be... Read more

Answer:Reformatted Dell Inspiron e1505 and cannot connect to internet

Yeah it sounds exactly like you're drivers are missing. You can double check by right clicking my computer > manage > device manager, you will probably see a bunch of question marks/exclamation points.

If you go to the Dell site, you should be able to download a single driver for the ethernet controller. Try this link:
http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs&os=WW1&osl=en&SystemID=INSPIRONI6400/E1505&catid=-1&impid=-1
Go to Network and look for "broadcom driver for 10/100 integrated controller". Don't click add to list, just click the download link. Save it to your desktop, then transfer it via usb and install it on the Dell. Reboot and then plug in your ethernet cable, hopefully you can get online. If that works you can install all Windows updates, then go back to the link and add all your drivers to the list and download easier with dell driver download manager.

Hi, I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 with Windows XP Media Center Edition. This computer was having problems running in the normal mode and would only run in Safe Mode. It had the PAV virus on it. Could not get that uninstalled because none of my removal tools could pull it off and the uninstall file was missing so I couldn't uninstall it. I have been advised to Restore the computer back to factory. I have no discs. I have a product key for Windows XP Media Center Edition on the underneath of my laptop. Thats it. I have done some searching and found that I could restore my computer by pressing ctrl & F11 at the same time. I did that and I was given two options. One Restore and the other Boot. Well I have tried both. The Restore fails. So now I am looking for some guidance on my options now. Please anyone with experience or help respond to me. I will try whatever will work. Hi guys,

I've had this issue for some time now but no real resolution.

I'm running Windows XP SP2, latest updates, etc. on a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop.

Basically, and this is intermittent, but often enough to be a problem, when I remove the power cord (either from the wall/power supply, or remove the plug from the back of my laptop) the computer just freezes up:

- The screen goes completely black (although not as black as when the computer is completely off)

- the computer is still 'on' (though not responding), power light is still on, any lights that were already on (NUM LOCK, etc. are still lit up)

- the computer is frozen (I can't see the screen, but I can confirm this because for example if I press cap-locks or the key combo to disable the wireless networking, the lights on my keyboard stay the same)

The only way to recover is to force a shutdown and restart the laptop.

I have contacted Dell regarding this, but they said it's not a hardware problem, and most likely some kind of system conflict. Of course their advice (as always) is to re-install Windows.

I have confirmed that it appears to be a system problem, because I booted the laptop off a Linux live CD, and then tested multiple times to remove the power plug and I could never replicate the problem.

I'm trying to find a solution where I don't have to completely reformat and start over as I have a lot of programs installed.

Any advice would be appreciated. And if anyone else ... Read more

how long have you had this laptop for, i think you need to replace the batter because it is getting old. as for the dark screen it does that so the laptop doesn't use soo much batter. in you laptop look for key that has fn written on it hold that and find another key with a start sign and a plus with it. hold fn and press the +start the screen will go brighter. what setting ahve you put for your batter some you can set to use full pc performance or normal so batter is saved etc.

Answer:Dell Inspiron E1505 freezes when power is plugged/unplugged

Yes this would happen as it freezes when trying to switch power sources. Close the lid to force hibernate or shut it down before you unplus it. You should never just pull the cord out while Windows is running. It will always freeze.

My husband's Dell laptop has been having crash problems intermittently for the past few months, usually while using the latest Firefox (not surprising because web browsing is mostly what he uses the laptop for), but he believes it stems back to a Windows update -- not sure which one exactly, but whichever one gave him the new IE with tabs. The computer has been twitchy ever since then.

Last week things progressed to Windows not starting up at all and consistently bringing up a BSoD upon every restart - Normal, Safe Mode, and Last Known Good Configuration.

In the BSoD, there is not a specific file or driver listed as the problem. Here is the STOP error code we consistently see:

*** STOP: 0x0000007E (0xC0000005, 0x86F59E7A, 0xF79907B8, 0xF79904B4)
(I can transcribe the entire blue screen text if that is necessary)

I tried to use the Dell support site to troubleshoot the problem -- I followed the "guided path" tech support, trying each recommended step, none of which did anything. I stopped when I got to the suggestion to open the laptop and unplug all the third-party devices plugged into the motherboard. Knowing me, I'd get electrocuted. And we didn't alter the hardware once we got it from the factory anyway.

I ran Diagnostics and the memory passed all the tests. On the Dell "Windows XP Blue Screen Troubleshooting" page, it suggests updating the BIOS or rolling back any updates. I have no idea how to do any of those things when Windows won't ... Read more

I was recently given a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop with windows XP Media Center Edition as a gift. I am very grateful for the gift as a single mother of two in college. The only problem is, that this computer has been a problem since the first time I turned it on. It constantly had to suddenly shut windows down and kept telling me to run CHKDSK/F and restart. It never would work till today. After the computer restarted now every time I try to turn it on it first goes to a boot menu asking to start in safe mode, a few others and start windows normally, and then no matter what I choose the entire screen goes blue and says "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer." and some more about disabling antivirus and back up utilities and to run CHKDSK/F but the screen never changes and I can't do anything. I am hoping this can be fixed, even though the computer has been a pain, I have to have it for school and will be devastated without it. If someone out there can help me fix my computer I will be so grateful.

Hi all,

Hoping someone can help with this as I'm in Australia (usually UK) and my work laptop has decided to stop working!

It is a Dell Inspiron 17R SE 7720, about 3 years old.

When I press the power on button only the HDD button lights up and nothing happens. The light stays on and the only way it goes off is if I take the battery out.

The same thing happens regardless of whether I am trying to power on using just the Battery, AC charger or both together.

I've searched online and found various articles giving instructions on removing the battery and AC charger then holding the power button to drain any residual power, I've tried this many times but it hasn't worked.

I can't find anything explaining why only the HDD light is coming on. Clearly there is power going in so it must be another issue.

Hoping someone can shed some light on this as I'm screwed if I can't get it working!

I have a Dell Inspiron E1705 laptop (out of warranty) that will not power up. When I press the power button, the power light goes on for just a few seconds, then goes out. No fan noise, nothing on screen, nothing period. In one of the forums I read to push the Fn button while pushing the power button, then holding. When I do that, the 3 LED lights (at top, the 3 LOCK lights) go on briefly, then go out. I have removed the battery, checked it (it's fine) just used AC power, just used the battery, nothing works. I am suspecting that maybe the internal power board is fried or possibly the power button circuit board is fried. When I took it to my neighborhood computer store, it worked fine (twice!). I am at my wits end. Can someone help me? Thanks for your time.

I had the same problem with a Latitude. Try taking the battery out and starting it. Could be that the battery is bad.
The other thing that could be wrong is the power cord. My Latitude has had a bad power cord even though the green light in that box in the cord stays lit.

guys i have a inspiron e1505 laptop with windows vista 7 ultimate original. from nearly 2 months sometimes a new desktop screen with windows classic theme appears n some times net connection is also disabled. n when i try to refresh the page it shows the location is unavailable. i have a bit defender original antivirus . n it never showed any virus. but, i had a small doubt that this is because of virus . so i tried to reinstall vista. whenever i tried to boot the system with the dvd , nothin happened and the system booted in the normal way. i checked the boot options everything was alright. so i tried to install after loading windows. even then most of the time the dvd drive wasn't reading the dvd n showed no disc. the dvd is in perfect condition with not even a single scratch n its working fine in all other laptops. on top of that all other dvds are working fine n the prob is only with the windows dvd . this made me think that the virus is preventing me from installing windows. sometimes the vista dvd worked. but once i try to select the location where to install windows. it shows nothing to select n something like no location is available. so finally i removed the hard disk n formatted it by connecting to the usb port of another laptop using some connector n again placed in my laptop n tried to install vista again. this time it showed boot manager missing n the dvd never loaded. earlier once in a while it worked. now everything is gone. this is my mom's laptop n ... My laptop occasionally won't turn on. No fans, lights, etc. I can get it to turn on by holding the power button or pressing it multiple times. It seems to happen more after sitting off overnight with the AC adapter plugged in. Although when I unplug the charger it still has difficulty starting. I have a Dell Inspiron 7437 running windows 10. All drivers/BIOS are up to date. The laptop is just over a year old.
Troubleshooting steps I have taken include running the pre-boot assessment and Dell diagnostics. Doing a clean install of Windows 10 (this problem occurred 2 weeks after installing Windows 10, although I don't think they are related). I have read about static build-up and think this may be the problem. However, my battery is not removable and I don't know of a permanent solution if this is in fact the problem. (I have read to remove the battery and AC adapter and press the power button to release static buildup). The power button appears to be making good contact.
My other guess is something is wrong with the battery. However, it says the battery is working and has 92% health.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 7437 laptop sometimes won't turn on (Static build-up?)

Hi player647, mine is an Inspiron 14 7000 series (7437) and I am having the exact same issue you discribe.
The solution I find till the moment, is to open the back cover, put the battery switch to "OFF" and then to "ON" again, and after that the laptop starts.
Did you find a permanent solution?.
Im thinking that the problem may be the battery too... but it still work like the first day (autonomy).
In my case, I try multiple things and no luck... like avoid to leave at the night de AC adapter plugged in, etc, but it continues to be very random.
I really like this laptop, any help you can give me, I will appreciate!!.

Over the last 2 days I have been having a problem as indicated in the title of this post. The fault has rectified itself 3 times, but again today, it is back to "battery plugged in, not charging." As I am running the laptop (Windows Vista Home Premium; 32 bit) on the adapter without problems, I assume that the adapter itself may not be faulty.
I also have a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop running Windows 7.  Can I safely use that adapter with the Vista laptop, without causing damage to the Vista ?  If it is safe to do so, and the battery on the Vista starts charging, then it would indicate that the Vista adapter/charger has some kind of fault.
Hoping someone can give me some guidance. Thanks.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 1545 laptop. Battery plugged in not charging. Can I use adapter from a Dell Inspiron 630M laptop ?

If the adapter has the same plug and the same or higher power rating, you can swap them.
Check to see whether the 1545 recognizes the AC adapter or whether it shows unknown (F2 at powerup).  If it shows unknown with two different adapters, you have a bad power jack or a bad mainboard.

Hello friends,

This is my first post in TECHSPOT, hope all are good.

My exact problem is already present in this thread
wwwDOTtechspotDOTcom/vb/topic93172DOThtml

Wish the mods had kept it open for further discussion.

Here is my version of the problem:
My laptop is little more than 3 years old (Dell Inspiron e1505)
I went to turn it on, and it would not start up.
Instead, it would power on and the screen would say black.
The fan would come on the power light would come on. Also,
the number lock and scroll lock lights would blink, and the caps lock
light was solid. I could hear the hard drive thinking about starting up.
This would last about 30 seconds, and then it would power off.
I read around the internet and found a solution, which was to
"reseat the memory". I took the bottom access panel off the memory
and took the chips out of the A and B slots. I then put them back in
securely and made sure they were in.

Still nothing happened, then it strike me that either if one of the memory cards had failed, but I was wrong, I took both cards out and inserted one card in slot A and left other open and started it started , means one RAM was good, then did the same with other card, inserted it in Slot A and started it too worked, Now my problem is I feel there might be something wrong with slot B.

Usually this problem I encounter whenever I change the position of my laptop, for eg, If I do some cleaning on my laptop then this blinkin... Read more

Hi and thanks for the opportunity to post!

Have a Dell E1505 with a cracked LCD WSXGA+ screen. It still worked but it was getting worse, so I ordered a new screen with the inverter (same res).

While waiting for the new one to arrive, I hooked up the laptop to my HDTV set to do a little work plugged in thru the external connector (what the heck, I thought...the computer part still worked fine!).

Upon receiving the screen today, I plugged everything in, fired it up and no power to the screen. I even bought a new flat cable...neither that one nor the old one makes a difference.

The laptop is still putting out on the HDTV fine. When I hit function+F8 to toggle the display (which I have used fine for years), the message that "no external monitor is available" or something to that effect. The laptop thinks that the external HDTV is the primary default monitor.

When I go into my ATI Graphics X1400 card utility, I attempt to enable the secondary monitor. It flickers, then reverts back to the HDTV monitor as my "default". I noticed in the display settings that my HDTV monitor is checked as the default monitor and because it is shaded - I can't uncheck it.

I have no idea what to do next minus taking it into a laptop repair shop and paying LOTS of money not to mention being without it for 4-5 days!!!

Question is: Why does it think that the HDTV external monitor is the external monitor? How can I change it????

I appreciate any suggestions!!!

Hi all,
I have one problem with my one year old dell inspiron E1505 laptop. Monitor is loose, loose in the sense it is not falling down but it is shaking. I was too nervous and concerned about it since its like only one year old.

please help me friends.

Answer:my dell insipiron E1505 laptop monitor is little loose.

Pavan:

Im at Dell Headquarters in Austin, Texas and I just came across this post. There are two places that the hinge can come loose. If the screws that fasten the LCD assembly to the chassis are loose, they can be tightened with a screwdriver. If the wobbling is coming from something loose inside the bezel, that would have to be disassembled and parts may need to be replaced. To get to the screws, you would need to remove the hinge cover and I included a link to the instructions for tat procedure below.

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/ins6400/en/sm/hingecvr.htm#wp1123881

If the system is still under warranty, we could dispatch out the whole LCD kit, which would definitely fix it without having to pull the LCD apart. The only issue with that is those kits are expensive, so if it's not covered, you're better off finding out which (cheaper) part it is and getting only that one.

If you have any questions feel free to post back. I'll be checking this thread for the next few days.

Answer:Dell Inspiron 15R won't turn on ! No lights will turn on .

Hi PARTH511722,
What is the exact system model?
Are you using an original Dell OEM Adapter? When you plug in the adapter to the system, does the adapter stay firm or does it fall off easily? Is the adapter frayed? Is there any damage on the system? Could you test with another power adapter if possible? Could you try powering on with another battery?
Remove the memory and disconnect the HDD and try powering on the system with adapter only / battery only and check.
Does the adapter led stay on and stable or does it go off when connected to the system?
If the adapter led is stable when connected to the system and there are no signs of power, then the motherboard is suspected faulty.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private conversation with the service tag and your Name for case records.
Let us know if you have any other queries.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1521 running Vista, and I've had it for about 2 1/2 to 3 years. Today I was online and all of a sudden a blue screen came up and my laptop shut off. I don't know if it was THE blue screen of death because I didn't have a chance to look at it, but it certainly was a blue screen of doom =/

Anyways right after the blue screen came up and my laptop turned off, the caps lock light (the lock icon w/the 'A' on it next to the power button) kept blinking. At the time, my laptop was plugged into the AC adapter charger thing (I don't know about how computers work, i just know how to use the internet!) so its not like the battery was low or anything. I kept pressing and holding down the power button several times with the AC charger thing in the laptop, and without the AC charger thing, and it would not turn on. The only thing that happened was that the caps lock icon would blink blue for about 45 seconds (or 45 times, not sure) and laptop would make the sound it always makes when its about to turn on. Then after the 45 seconds/times, the sound would stop. Nothing ever appeared on the screen.

The laptop was very hot at the time, but I've had this computer for years and its been hotter than it was today and it never did anything like this. Also, for the past 2 weeks or so, i've been getting a popup in the bottom right corner of my screen (where the time is) saying that my battery is reaching the end of its usable life and needs to be replaced. Before I get into my question I would like to disclaim that I am not at all a computer person, I mean I don't know the names of the different parts. Heck I can't really remember the model of my computer all too well buuut, I went to work today and my computer was off (as stated before it's an all in one Dell Inspiron) and I got home, deciding to play video games however it didn't turn on. The power button light is a white kinda blue colour like usual and it sounds normal but after about 2 seconds it shuts off (It doesn't even get to the screen with the Dell logo on it). I've unplugged my Wacom tablet and all things like that, also note the light on the cord coming from the back of the computer is on just like usual. This computer was bought in December 2015 so it's not old at all and I'm quite worried because it is so new and rather important to me so any advice would be nice, especially if you could break it down into simple terms so someone as dumb as me can understand. Thanks!!!!!

Answer:All in one Dell Inspiron won't turn on

We need to know the exact model number. If you don't know it but have the Service Tag number (look for a sticker on the PC), go to Support and type that number into the Enter a Service Tag or other product ID box about 1/3 down the page. It should tell you the model number.
You can try this for starters:.

Disconnect the power cord from rear of PC; don't just unplug it from the wall
Now press/hold the power button for ~30 sec
Reconnect the power cord to rear of PC
See if it boots now

I have tried to keeping the power button pushed for 30 secs and then plugging main power back in, but nothing.  I have also tried a Universal power adapter which I know works on other laptops, but nothing.
Does anyone have any ideas?
Thank you

There is no dedicated Windows 8 Driver for the ATI Mobility X300/X600/X1300/X1400 graphics cards but I have documented that the Windows Vista Driver R153383.exe will install and work reliably in Microsoft Windows8.
The steps for installation are listed below:

Download the R153383.exe drvier from: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/04/DriverDetails?driverId=R153383 and extract the compressed files, then cancel the automatic installation of the driver (It crashed out on me when I ran the install)
From The Style UI interface, move the mouse pointer to the lower left corner, and Right Click, select Device Manager from the pop-up menu.
Click the arrow next to Display Adapter, Microsoft Basic Display should be listed.
Right Click the Microsoft Basic Display and click Update Driver, then select Browse My Computer ...., then Click Let Me Pick From a List ....
Click the HAVE DISK Button in the Install from Disk Window, browse to the C:\Dell\Drivers\R153383\Packages\Driver\Display\LH_INF folder and click CL_45540.inf then Click Open and OK to install the driver.

I have completed this process on both an Inspiron E1505/6400 and Inspiron 6000 and both systems are working fine, even power management seems to function well.

Answer:How to install Windows 8 video/graphics drivers for an Inspiron 6000/6400/E1505/8600/9100/9200/9300/9400/E1705 Latitude D610/D810 or Inspiron XPS notebook system

Can you get a multiple display with a projector? I was able to get the ATI Mobility x300 as the display adapter, but I can only get one display at a time. With XP, I could see my laptop screen duplicated on a projector and I would like to be able to do the same under Windows 8.
When I check the display with the Control Panel, it allows for only one display and the monitor is a generic PnP monitor and the adapter is the Microsoft Basic Display driver.
I didn't use the method that you suggested to get the X300 adapter.
Any suggestions?
Thank you.

I was given a inspiron e1505 and it work when the people who had it and put it a way. when it was took back out the battery was dead and they plug it in and the battery won't charge and it won't power on with the ac adapter. There no lights coming on nothing. The ac adapter is working. I plug into my other dell laptop and it work. So it's not the ac adapter. I know they told me the cpu over heated once because the vent was block with dust but they clean it and it work after that.  What i done so far is taken the coin battery out and the laptop battery out left it unplug for two hours and put everything back in and nothing happen. So i am lost. Hope someone out there may be able to help. Thanks for any help i can get.

Answer:inspiron e1505 won't do nothing .

It's a bad mainboard - whether it's worth replacing on a system this old is up to your discretion.
