Windows 7 Update fails to update when running updates

Question: Windows 7 Update fails to update when running updates

After installing Windows 7 Home Premium Upgrade on a new seagate 320 g hdd on a Toshiba L300 Laptop with 32 bit that had Vista with latest SP on a 120gb hdd.then installing the sp1, the windows updater will not download and install updates. As it was I had to manually download the sp1 to a flash drive from my desktop and put it on the laptop. No problems there, but was hoping it would solve the Update problem, but didn't. I get the "Fail" error codes. 1. 80070570 and 2. 8007001F. I have 52+ KB updates and not one of them will download and install. Called MS help and for two days they had me try different things. They even took control of the computer and couldn't figure it out. I checked memory and did a chkdsk on the new HDD. In desperation for trouble shooting I put the Vista HHD back in and ran updates with no problems at all then I reinstalled the 320 G HHD. I didn't have a BSOD at all. But I downloaded and installed Microsoft Security Essentials and when I did that I would get the BSOD for what ever reason. I had a hard time getting it uninstalled because as soon as you would start windows, within a few seconds I would get the BSOD. When I finally got the Security Essentials uninstalled the BSOD Went away. Have no Idea what one had to do with the other. I just want to get the updater to work. Any Help
Thanks

Preferred Solution: Windows 7 Update fails to update when running updates

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

What???

That makes zero sense.

one thing at a time.

Which computer do you want to install Win 7 on?

Do you have license?

One license = 1 machine.
1 machine = 1 license.

Recently I have been having issues with Windows Update. There are Three updates that I cannot install whether it be through Windows Update or downloading them manually from the Microsoft Website.

The update codes are:

KB2984972
KB2984976 &
KB3000988

When trying to update through Windows Update, I get the error codes 800B0100 & 80073712. Although when I try to install them by getting the updates from the website manually, it notifies me that the updates don't apply to my system even though they're for Winows 7. I am still able to install definition updates and another XML update worked, but not these Three. I have run DISM to attempt to restore PC health which does not even run, I also have run sfc/scannow now multiple times but it always reports that it "was unable to fix some of them"

I followed all the instructions in the posting thread and in the attachment section it says the max file size for a zip folder is 8MB although my CBS log is 20MB, what should I do? My version is Windows 7 64 Bit Home Premium.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Windows Update fails with certain updates only

Please follow the Windows Update Posting Instructions and post the requested data
If the file is too large (8MB compressed), remove the older CBSPersist cab files until the final file is below the limit - you can always post them separately after zipping them. (the forum doesn't allow the upload of bare CAB files, for a number of reasons) Alternatively, upload the full set to your favoured fileshare site (preferably DropBox or OneDrive) and post a link.

Hello,

as topic title says...

I have run out of ideas, how to fix this, if possible.

Already tried these:

- SURT (comes out clean, log shows no errors)
- SFC (the same as above)

Hi guys

There seems to be a problem with my windows update. It downloads the necessary updates with no problem but as soon as it start to install it, it gives me a failed message. No error codes nothing, just failed. Did anyone experience this and know what the solution could be?

(See the attached image for the error.)

PS: It's not only the case with SP3 it happened even before SP3 was released.

Thanks

Hello

I'm using Windows 8 x64. I have Windows Update disabled for automatic updates, so it only updates when I manually check for them (in case that matters). It finds the updates, installs them and asks me to restart. Usually, it says underneath "Updates were installed: [date] (Failed)". When I restart, I check it back and the (Failed) is usually gone. However, when I see Update History is shows that a few of them have failed.

As far as I can tell, I can't re-download them. I don't even know if these are important updates or not. I don't know if they failed to download or to install. All other programs that I use are able to update properly, how is it that the newest Microsoft OS gets about 1/4 of its updates wrong?

This computer had a full system reset just a few days ago (the 22nd), and on the day I resetted I did an update, and already on that day it failed one update. So I know it's not due to programs conflicts, because at the time I had maybe Firefox and Dropbox installed, nothing more. Also I have no 3rd party Anti-Virus/Firewall, I rely on Windows Defender.

Answer:Windows Update always fails a few updates for no reason

Is this an update, fresh install, or pre-installed on your system?

Fixing oner or more of your failed updates may release the others as well, i see one of your updates requires you to download and run a particular file when it fails through windows update the file is delmigprov.exe

This is from the Microsoft website:
run delmigprov.exe to resolve an issue that could prevent Windows8-RT-KB2756872-x64.msu from being installed.

I am having problems with Windows 7 performing updates. Failures outweigh successes. Virtually nothing will update. I have performed individual manual updates on all the problem updates and it goes thru the process or creating a restore point and then the progress bar shows it installing. It then reports a failure and the failure code is always the same - 8007371B. The updates which fail are: KB2467659, KB2443685, KB 2447568, KB2416400 and successes are KB2416472, KB947821, KB915597.

I have tried the using the System Update Readiness Tool and no errors were reported.

Tried Microsoft Fix it 50202 and manual reset windows update components.

I have tried re-registering DLL with no positive results.

I went to Dell who said they didn?t have the expertise to fix the problem and referred me to their business partner ? Gizmo ? who guarantee ?No Fix No Fee?. Gizmo spent about two hours and gave up and said re-install.

My research on the WEB and thoughout this site have come up with many hints/possible solutions but I have drawn a blank.

I have attached the window log files CBS Attachment 129465

Can anyone help? I don't really want to go down the path of a reinstall.

Thanks

Max

Hey guys,
I am having this problem quite a long time now. Whenever I want to install updates from windows update in order to be able to upgrade from Windows 8 to 8.1, it shows me message while rebooting: Failure configuring Windows updates, Reverting changes, Do not turn off your computer. Then showing me couple of these multiple times:
and yes, you guessed it, I am once again where I started. I tried literally everything I found on the internet, and nothing ever worked. I just want to upgrade to Windows 8.1(which I can't aswell but I think the reason why, is Windows Update). My last chance is reinstalling Windows but I would like to solve this with different option. Thank you for any tips or anything that could eventually lead to solving this problem of mine.

I had this problem before in Oct. 2006 with my computer at home and put drivecleaner 2006 on it and it corrected the problem. Now my symantec and pestpatrol caught it as spyware and and all and I'm kind of confussed on where to put it back on my computer or not! Any advice. I have Window XP Pro.

Drive Cleaner is a program that displays exaggerated reports of security and privacy risks on your computer. Before you can fix these risks, though, the program requires you to purchase the commercial version of the software. Due to this Symantec labels this program a security risk. I just downloaded 102 updates for Windows and Office it is approximately 600MB and above. After downloading, some updates maybe, 23 failed to install and 3 were said to be not needed. And I restarted my PC, after restarting, Windows Update prompts me to install the remaining updates which is not installed for the first time. Then It installs the 90% then restarts the machine, after restarting the remaining not installed updates installs successfully. What maybe the cause of that problem?

Sorry for the English. I'm Filipino

I recently did a system restore on my PC which sent it back to SP1. When I went to load SP2, the Page Cannot Be Displayed window pops up as if there isn't any internet connectivity which in fact there is. I am able to use the net for all it's worth except when attempting to download anything via MS or Windows Update. I was able to run several diagnostic tools and anti malware/spyware utilities and came up with nothing. Another issue I get redirected when opening a search result through any search engine. Hi all!

So, my pc had started downloading updates, and a few minutes later my system hung. Desktop showed on monitor, but mouse didn't move cursor, hitting keys did nothing, including good old alt ctrl del. So I waited a minute to make sure it wouldn't recover, and hit reset. On windows startup, it installed some of the updates it had started downloading before the crash. However when I got into windows it said there were 3 updates ready for download, but whenever I try to download those 3 I get an error: Code 800B0100 Windows Update encountered an unknown error.

Googling this I saw a suggestion to download and run System Update Readiness Tool (Checksur.exe), which I did, but still got the same error.
So I tried to do a system restore to the day before that crash...still no go.
So I tried downloading the updates manually and install them, but then I get told "The update is not applicable to your computer."

So...pardon my french, but what the hell should I do? I really really really don't want to reinstall windows...

PS: Updates that fail are KB2532531, KB2533623 and KB982018.

This sometimes happens when, for some reason, things are not updated in the right order. There are loads of other reasons but for me this is the most common.

It can help you reset the update history and put in what you want in the order advised.

Hi. Because I recently formatted my computer's hard drive, I have had to go online and redownload all of the critical and other windows updates for my Windows XP Pro computer. When I first started to download the updates, I had 19 Critical Updates to download. Now I think I have 10 or something like that. Well, these last 10 or whatever absolutely refuse to install! They are apparently downloaded though because I attempt to redownload them and they "download" at speeds way faster than what dialup is capable of. Well, then it proceeds to install the updates. However, every single update fails. During the attempted installation of these updates by Windows Update, my computer accesses the floppy drive for some unkown reason. It does this only once or twice. I believe that during these downloads I am running programs such as Norton Internet Security 2002 (but I don't know why this would affect it because my other downloads completed fine with this and the rest of the programs mentioned here running). I was also running Windows Messenger, Yahoo Messenger (I think), Kazaa Lite (I think), and Norton Antivirus 2002 (with Autoprotect enabled). I have not tried downloading these files with any of these programs disabled. Oh yeah, I use AOL for my Internet connection but I use Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 to do most if not all of my web browsing which does include Windows Update. Please help me with this problem! I've only recently realised that my Windows 7 computer will not allow Windows Update to basically, run.

The last time it successfully ran was late August and every attempt since fails with Error No: 80096001

I cannot even run the SURT tool as requested by the Windows Update posting Instructions thread. Same error number in fact.

I have run the sfcscan as directed, and the logs are attached.

Once again, I look forward to some nice lady or gent offering help with thanks in advance.

Hello, I got moms laptop for repair, and found one problem. I can't install 6 updates, one of them is that Windows 10 one. Windows update gives me error 80070BC9. I already tried sfc /scannow, even on boot, it threw "unfixable" errors on me too.
Any help? (Windows 8.1)
Thanks!

P.S.: I tried to put CBS.log here, but I can't, don't know why.

Alright, I've checked the posting instructions, and let's get that out of the way.

1. Tried to install SURT, I get the following error;

Quote:
Installer encountered an error: 0x80070424
The specified service does not exist as an installed service

2. sfc /scannow
The verification was able to complete up to 58% at which it gave the error

Quote:
Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation

3. No Windows Update error codes, it just says 'Check for updates for your computer' with a big red X icon

4. Log collection
I tried to attach the CBS.zip but it's 10mb, and this forum has an 8mb limit.

Okay, so I am reserving Windows 10 for the various computers at home, and when I try to update this computer which I use as an HTPC, I know I need update KB3035583 to get the option to reserve Windows 10, but when I go to do so, Windows Update tells me it can't check for updates because it's not running. I tried manually turning it on via an elevated command prompt but that doesn't work. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Answer:Windows Update cannot check for updates, because it is not running

Update

So after some digging and some relevant posts here, I was able to fix the problem.
I know people hate when people don't post what exactly fixed their problem so....

I used Option 3 in the Windows Update Reset thread located here

BUT now I get a new error,

Quote:
Windows could not search for new updates
Error Code 8024402F - Windows Update encountered an unknown error

after retrying, I get another error,

Quote:
Windows could not search for new updates
Error Code 80080005 - Windows Update encountered an unknown error

After running Microsoft's Fix It for Windows Update, I get the error

Quote:
Compressed (zipped) folders error
File not found or no read permission

With an OK button and I haven't found a way to run the Fix It as admin.

After Fix It completes, I get the following

Quote:
Some security settings are missing or have been changed - Not Fixed
Windows Update error 0x80070003(2015-07-28-T-04_12_51P) - Not Fixed
Problems installing recent updates - Not Fixed
Problems installing recent updates - Not Fixed
Service registration is missing or corrupt - Fixed

with an 'Explore additional options' and some other buttons.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello,

I am looking for some help with Windows Update. I have 11 updates that fail every time I try to run them. Every month when Microsoft releases new updates, I will typically have at least one new update that fails and adds to my growing list of failures. I am on a Dell XPS8500 running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit SP1 on an Intel core i7-3770 @ 3.4GHZ processor.

I receive the Windows Update error 80073701 when the updates fail. I have attached a copy of the error along with the Windows Update history showing the 11 failed updates.

I followed the directions on this site and ran the SURT and SFC /Scannow, but afterwards, the updates still failed. The SFC scan completed without finding any integrity violations. As the CBS log was too large to upload to this forum site, I put it up on Dropbox. The link to the files is:

https://www.dropbox.com/sh/d3c1fo8jc...K0hHNvDAa?dl=0

Any help with this issue would be most appreciated. Thanks!

Bruce

Ouch! - you have over 200 missing Winning Component Keys!
One or two I can deal with - but this number is beyond a manual fix.
I'm afraid that a repair install is going to be your best option unless you have a Restore point that goes back to before the problem started.

Hello,

I recieve error C80003FA whenever I do a Windows Update run. It doesn't get past the stage of checking for updates.

I've tried several fixes including:
- Waiting 15 minutes and running Windows Update again.
- Letting Windows Update run on its own schedule.
- SFC /Scannow
- Renaming the Catroot2 Folder.
- Running 3 different Fixit tools.
- Clean windows install.

After each and every one of those fixes I've tried windows update and I still get error C80003FA.

SFC Scannow has previously said no errors, but the last run through it said there were unfixable errors. I've got the log, though for brevity's sake I will keep it until someone asks for it.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Answer:Windows Update fails in Update Check. Error code C80003FA.

Clean windows install doesn't fix it? You must be blocked, maybe your firewall???

Hello,

today updated to win 8.1 from a one year old windows 8, everything went fine
Then I followed Toshiba recommendations for updating the tools but despite doing exactly as explained the flash cards(and the functions buttons) are not functioning, they worked perfectly in win 8!

_The only utility that fails to update is PC health monitor,_ the version installed is 1.9.04.6402 and the one from support site for win 8.1 is 1.9.09.6400, when trying to install it fails with error message "not support"

When trying to open the installed health monitor there is also an error message "can`t get the bios type".

This is strange and every other utility recognizes the latest bios version 6.70 an the laptop`s details an serial
I tried all I could think about, installed flash card support tool from win 8, enabling and disabling in the bios, even installed VAP for win 8 but no change

Any help would be highly appreciated
Latest system driver and other tools are installed

Thanks in advance

It's dej? vu all over again.

The correct behaviour of windows update over a metered connection is to offer the choice to download, or wait until on a non-metered connection.

The initial build of the Anniversary Update broke this, it skipped offering you a choice and went straight to trying to download - which of course stuck at 0% because... well... it's a metered connection! TenForums, and @Slartybart in particular were the only place on the internet that had found this bug, documented it and offered workarounds.
Set Wireless Network as Metered or Non-Metered in Windows 10
(this was in fact the very post that convinced me to register here).

Well, guess what - 15063.0 is broken in exactly the same way. After upgrading my first machine to Creators Update 15063.0 and checking for updates there's no 'Download' button - it just hangs at 0%.

The workarounds were: For Defender updates check for updates in Defender itself. Started from there an update would always be downloaded - even on metered connections. For Cumulative Updates, temporarily turn off metered connections. The stalled update would immediately start downloading. That bug in 1607 wasn't fixed until August 23, 2016 with KB3176934 (OS Build 14393.82).

Turning off metered connections has got me up to 15063.13 now. Until there's a new Defender definition available I won't know if the bug has been fixed (again). OK, there is, and it has.

It's disappointing that MS repeated their mistake of last time, but at least ... Read more

Answer:Windows Update with Metered connection fails: Creators Update 15063.0

Hi Bree,

I just did a clean install using the Insider 15063.0 ISO and my Creator updates are download OK through my metered wifi connection. I am currently on 15063.14 version 1703 (after updates).

However, on one of my rigs, I did encounter a problem where Windows Update was trying to download a driver and it turned out to be a Conexant audio driver. So, what I did was go to the device manager and updated the driver from there. Once done, my updates started to flow. After that, I went through every device and manually checked for updates and I found several PCI components that download updated drivers.

Sorry to hear you are having problems.

WOT

On a T520 with Windows 7, System Update 5 finds one critical update.  When told to continue, it finishes with the message that the package did not download.  This has happened repeatedly over two days.  I have looked at reports of similar problems but did not see anything that helped.  The update is Intel Management Engine Firmware 7.1.  Suggestions?

An Intel HDMI Compute Stick clone: HANNSPREE Quanta running Windows 8.1 with Bing, upgraded to Windows 8.1 Prof w media centre.
I like the stick as it takes little space when I want a clear desk.
I had to reinstall everything using the image provided by seller which is time consuming.

My question: how to avoid a repeat of the error?
As this is a very proprietary system (uses a 32 bit uefi on a 64 bit capable device running Windows 32 bit) it is not possible to boot a repair dvd for it.
I could access a dos prompt with the imaging usb app, but dism.exe did not work until I deleted pending.xml in .../winsxs
anyways even that didn't work either, so I had to re-image & reinstall everything.
So what is the update to avoid so as not to get a non functional HDMI stick with error: Fatal error c000003a applying update operation after running updates on Windows 8.1

Simple question : - the computer refuse to update, when installing the updates it gives an error message and all the next updates fail to install. Is there a way to make the install process resume correctly. Since i'm not a computer geek, i would appreciate help on how to investigate and solve / correct this issue. I'm a bit concerned as this has blocked several updates which some are said to be important. The SP1 went fine, but then no updates has occured since oct.2008 Thanks in advance for your guidance Best regards

Answer:Windows update fails and block subsequent update

Hi calabrache,

You can see if Windows Update and Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) and Remote Procedure Call (RPC) in "Services" is disabled/stopped and re enable/start it again.

Start Menu-Control Panel-Administrative Tools-Services. Double click on BITS, and Windows Update to set them to Automatic/Delayed Start and Start them if they are stopped and make sure Remote Procedure Call is set to Automatic.

You can also try to reregister WU. Type cmd in the start menu search bar and right click on cmd. Click run as administrator. In the command prompt type: NET STOP WUASERV and press enter
type: REGSVR32 %WINDIR%\SYSTEM32\WUPS2.DLL and press enter
type: NET START WUASERV and press enter
Exit out of the cmd.

Restart your computer and see if it works.

Also you may want to do a malware scan with an Antivirus/Antispyware program to make sure you don't have any malicious software on your computer.

From the Microsoft forums, it would appear that several people (including me) have been having problems with the latest Windows Update. The update in question is KB913433 - Security Update for Flash Player. As far as I can tell, this update is only supposed to apply to Flash versions 6.0.79 and earlier (see click here), but Windows Update is still trying to apply it to later versions and failing. See From what I can tell, the source of this issue (assuming one is already running a version of Flash later than 6.0.79) is two-fold.Firstly, when a later Flash version has been installed, the old Flash.ocx file has not been deleted. This is apparent with later versions which don't use a file named flash.ocx. For example, I have v8.0.24.0 and the file is named Flash8a.ocx.Then, Windows Update detects the old flash.ocx file and attempts to install the fix. At that point, it seems to realise that there is, in fact, a later version installed and the update fails. The real solution (for Windows Update) is for Microsoft to detect the correct version that is currently installed. The simple workaround is to delete flash.ocx (or just rename it if you wish to be cautious).

Answer:Windows Update fails (KB913433 - Flash Update)

I deleted it but have left it in the 'bin'. So far everything is OK and the update reminder has stopped.

Answer:Yoga 13 pc cannot update windows 8 0917 update always fails at 15%

The tip I used to solve this problem was found here:  http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_8-windows_update/i-cannot-install-windows-u... Basically, uncheck all non-MS / Intel services, reboot your machine, and then try windows update.  Re-enable the services after the update is successful. good luck!

When the Windows 10 Fall update (threshold 2) was released several days ago I tried updating via Windows update; it failed to install the update several times. Yesterday it started saying that my computer was up to date and I know threshold 2 has not been installed. Today I decided to try the media creation tool to do an inplace upgrade. It failed as well with error: 0x8007002C - 0x4000D The installation failed in the Second_Boot phase with an error during the Migrate_data operation.

I got this same error in august when trying to do an in place upgrade to windows 10 from 8.1 for activation purposes. I got around it then by selecting to 'keep nothing' instead of 'keep data and apps', it did not matter then because I was already planning to do a full clean install afterwards and just needed to activate my PC, however, now I want to keep everything.

I have attached the error message I get from the Media Creation tool upgrade attempt.

Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Windows 10 Fall Update Fails via Windows Update & Media Creation tool

As of yesterday Microsoft has pulled build 10586 so there is no update to build 10586 for you to get now.

There are two critical updates available, 10 optional including a BIOS update, and System Update stops working and gives me the message "1 update failed to download and install."  Doesn't matter which update I try, same message.  I don't want to have to download all of these separately from the support site.  Does anyone have any experience with this error?  Thank you

Answer:System Update fails to download and install any updates

Not sure why I didn't think of it, but have installed the stand alone System Update app and the critical updates installed, rebooted and success.

Good evening, it has been a while. I got a custom built computer about a year ago so that I can play FSX and P3D reasonably well. Everything seemed to go ok, not great, just ok. This are my specs:
Intel i7 [email protected] - Nvidia EVGA GTX 970 4gb - Asus Z97 Maximus Hero VII - WD black series 1TB HD - Corsair RM series RM850 - Samsung 840 EVO MZ-7TE500BW 500gb SSD.
About a month ago I started to notice that my wifi connection would be lost, then come back on its own. It got worse about two weeks ago, so I tried running the troubleshooter, it failed saying an error prevented it from running. Odd I thought.
I tried running windows updater, it downloaded a number of files to update, but continuosly failed to install 3 of them, apparently related to Microsoft Net Framework.
This morning I decided to uninstall P3D, and install a clean updated version, and the setup failed, never happened before. In the forums it adviced to make sure Direct X9 is installed, tried doing that and it failed as well.
This is very stressful, and affects my immune system, which is not good for me. Can someone here please be kind enough to take some time to help me solev this mess, thanks very much.
This are some logs from what happened today.

Answer:Windows update fails, Direct X fails, troubleshooter fails

My Surface Pro (1st generation) is running Windows 10 and I have it set to update Windows automatically. It's been doing that fine. Recently though I noticed that it always offers me 'Update and shut down' instead of just 'Shut down'. So I let it update. Next time I use the machine and come to shut it down, it makes me update again. And while it's updating, it certainly looks like it's trying to update rather than just shutting down.
According to my Windows Update history, the last successful update was on 15th September. But it's listing no update failures either, which is suspicious.
Anyone got any ideas?

Any XP or other users experiencing inability to find or display updates from the express or custom buttons today Sept. 10? The rest of the site works ok.

Answer:Microsoft Update site fails to display express or custom updates

Fired up one of the 3 XP computers in the house and I can see and click the Express or Custom Buttons with no problem.

I'll fire up the other two and check. If I don't post, you can assume that those two also had no problems.

Hi I downloaded ~ 350 Mb of updates. The system downloads all of them, and knows that it has downloaded them after re-boot, but it won't install them. The only option I have to continue is "Cancel". "Next" is Greyed out. If I click the update button, I get a 722.52 kB file that leads to the page above. It will not move on and install deferred uadates, and I think the others were installed, as the system did not try to download them again. A note (in the Good column) says "One Was Disabled"  / ricMessage Edited by Ricaz on 01-18-2009 06:37 PMMessage Edited by Ricaz on 01-18-2009 06:40 PM

I would like to delete the failed updates list in Windows 7 Update.  I have done this in the past but forget exactly the process.

I think you go to Windows Folder-Software Distribution.  After deleting everyhting in the folder., i think you are to restart the computer.  Once finished the list of updates in Windows Update will be cleared.

Please correct if I am wrong.  Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Answer:Failed Updates in Windows Update. Want to clear update list?

This is the way I suggest :

Go to start > type in cmd > right click at cmd.exe > Run as Administrator.

Type in "net stop WuAuServ" without quotes > hit enter.

Type in "start %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore" without quotes > hit enter. A folder will come up. Don't close that black window.

Rename file "DataStore" to "DataStoreold" without quotes.

Go to that black screen, Type in "net Start WuAuServ" without quotes > hit Enter. After it finished you can close it.

Now your Windows Update logs will now cleared.

Thank you.

So, I don't really know any details of what malware I may have on my computer other than its symptoms and the likelihood that it came through utorrent (which has since been taken off the computer). Basically, the problem began manifesting itself with the BSOD in Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit. I think I have taken care of that problem. The remaining symptoms of the malware are that windows and windows defender cannot update itself. Also, I cannot download any type of anti-virus update software or even the programs themselves. The updates just say they were unsuccessful. When I attempt to do a manual install/update of anti-virus or windows updates I get a "cannot connect to webpage". Sometimes, I will be redirected from an anti-virus download site to a random unaffiliated site. When I attempt to run a free online virus scan, the update will not work and therefore there is no ability to scan.

Thanks for whatever help you can offer. Eric

Have you tried setting Windows Update to not Download updates?
You could also set it to not check for updates while you are on holiday.
For MSE definitions, open MSE and update from there.

Hello! Please excuse my bad English! I've bought a new SL500 last week whithout any  operating system installed. I installed Windows XP Prof, thanks for the help here solving the problem with the SATA-compatibilty-mode in the BIOS! Now I tried to actualize the BIOS. There appears a "loop" after confirming the start-button for  Update ThinkPad BIOS: The "ThinkPad BIOS Flash Update Utility"-Window disappears for about a second and appears again whith its start-window. For Hours I could repeat this procedure ;-) I installed the BIOS after preparing a CD-ROM whith the iso.image from lenovo-homepage, that was working. Trying the XP-BIOS-updater again, the message appears: BIOS-image-file is as BIOS ROM ...  For what can it be useful updating the model number? Best wishes!

Hello Lenovo2009, I would  recommend, not to update bios, when your machine runs satisfactionally now. Also there seem to be some problems with the fan with bios 1.18. If you want to update, then I would recommend to use the cd procedure and not to update through windows. You might want to take a look here.  Message Edited by Agotthelf on 26-01-2009 02:28 PM

Hi, I'm looking at a window 8.1 Sony PC , that has not been able to get an update for almost a year now
140 Updates available - and they fail within 30seconds with an errorcode800700C1 Looking into this error I ran the SFC \scannow and it failed unable to repair files

I then looked that up and talked on chat to MS and was suggested to run
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

which also failed with Error: 0x800f0906

The source files could not be downloaded.
Use the "source" option to specify the location of the files that are required t
o restore the feature. For more information on specifying a source location, see
 http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=243077.

So i looked that up and found this article
http://www.thewindowsclub.com/repair-corrupt-windows-image-error-0x800f0906

which I have also ran
the CMD commands
and the re-ran DISM again
which resulted in the same error

any suggestions please

I have attached the SFC /scannow log for just (SR)
and the DISM log

Answer:Windows update not working - SFC fails and DISM fails

Edit:

Please run chkdsk /r, or chkdsk /f if you are using a SSD.

To run chkdsk /r in Windows 8/8.1 you will need to open the Elevated Command Prompt.  The easiest way to do this is to press the Windows key and the X key.   A menu will open with the option Command Prompt (Admin), click on this.

You will see a window similar to the one below.

When the Elevated Command Prompt opens copy and paste chkdsk /f in the Command Prompt, if this is a SSD you do not want to run the /r switch, you will want to use chkdsk /f then press Enter.

You will receieve the message "CHKDSK cannot be run because it is in use by another process.  Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts?  <Y/N>".

Type in Y and press Enter.

This will take a while to run, please be patient and allow it to complete the scan.  Do not stop this scan as this can damage your operating system.

When the scan is finished please download and run ListChkdskResult.

This will open Notepad with the results of the chkdsk scan.  Please copy and then paste this log in your topic.

i noticed that recently i haven't been getting my regular windows updates and now when i click on windows update via the control panel, it takes several minutes to load and then when it finally does, it comes up with a red x and the quote above in the
title. I tried opening windows defender as well and it said that it was turned off. i click turn on and it gives me a timeout error after about 2 minutes: 0x800705b4. One thing to note is that i recently got a virus on my computer about 2 weeks ago. According
to AVG it is gone but i have my doubts. i manually downloaded the Microsoft security essential definitions too because it wasn't updating for use and it is now working. The scan is currently in progress but i don't think ill find anything because i did the
same thing with AVG. I tried multiple things from threads like restarting the services and such but to no avail. Please help me, i'm desperate for a windows update. Ill provide any system information that is required for the solution.

Running Windows 7 Home Premium x64
Cannot update, attempting to upgrade to Win 7 professional. Discovered automatic updates were fried for some time and the system did not have SP1, which is apparently required for the upgrade.

I see similar threads, each seems to require advanced individual registry repair so starting my own - if there is a generic fix please reply with it and I can give it a shot. I have tried the normal tools to fix without change- see below.

Symptoms:
Windows updates fails with an error code 8007370B - Windows Update encountered an unknown error

I have run SURT several times successfully
I have run Fixit 50202, MicrosoftFixit.wu.LB.133286320513446086.5.1.Run,
Each returns 'Repair Windows Update components' and 'Windows Update components must be repaired'
All claim to have fixed the problem (no change, naturally)
Attempted to run SFC /scannow from an elevated prompt and it fails with 'Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation'. Same behavior when attempted from Safe Boot.

Downloaded and attempted to install SP1 locally, both the all platforms version and the Win7 x64 version. Both fail with errors.

Ran the Norton remover tool and Macafee remover tool - think Norton came with the system but was never activated, ran the Macafee remover tool just to be sure.

Have renamed the Softwareupdate folder without any change.

And its all thanks to microwank. if i could get a refund i would, but sadly that is not the case.thanks ya nazis.

anywho, i went to my updates and uninstalled all the updates . then i click reboot to complete the operation. but funnily enough, the computer crashes and stayes at black screen. and i have tried to uninstall updates multiple times. then when i click the power off button and reboot. im back with all them lovley security updates that i just so need in my life and also to be prepared for a nuclear fallout. No matter how hard i try uninstalling and rebooting, it just wont work.

Also, i have 100 % cpu usage. im wondering if this can be any program that was awakened when the updates infected my comp.on my task manager.it says cpu usage 100% but it dosent list enough apps to cover 100%..
so please if anyone would know how i can make my comp run smoothly and quickly.
pleae would anyone have any advice.thanks for reading

Answer:[SOLVED] Vista running incredibly slow after update.+cant uninstall updates.

Click start > run > msconfig
click the "startup" tab
uncheck everything except your antivirus
restart your computer.

Right Click "Computer", select your main drive, right click, select properties then tools. Defrag the main drive. Even if it tells you it doesn't need it, defrag it anyways.

Run a Registry cleaner, you can get a good one from here: http://www.ccleaner.com/download

clean the junk files and repair the registry. Restart again and give it another whirl.

Tried using the following : 7kbf02ww.exe     1,809,440     Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Firmware update Version: 2.1.211.299 Release Date: 2007/01/26  However, during the updating process, it stalls at the screen for about 5 mins showing "reconfiguring bluetooth" , then gives an error msg that bluetooth firmware updating has failed and asks me to reboot and try again. Viscious cycle repeats. Any ideas ?  Thanks

Hello,

I am running on a machine running Windows 7 Home Premium x64. Other Windows Updates are working fine, but for some reason, the Windows Update for IE9 keeps appearing (and failing) even though IE9 is already installed. The update for IE10 (as well as the manual installer) also fail.

The "Windows Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 for x64-based systems" fails with error code 9C48.
The "Internet Explorer 10 for Windows 7 for x64-based systems" fails with error code 9C59.

I've attached the CBS folder with the CBS and CheckSUR files (I had to remove some of the older "persist" files to fit it under the attachment limit).

Appreciate any help!

Thanks,
Joe

Answer:IE9 Update Won't Disappear Though Already Installed, IE10 Update Fails

The operative errors are in the CheckSUR results...

I've uploaded afile - j99aa.zip - to my SkyDrive at Noel's SkyDrive

Please downloadand save it.

Right-click onthe downloaded file, and select Extract all…

Extract to thedefault location - which will create a new folder j99aain the same place.

Open this folder- there should be one folder inside it (Packages)

Copy the content of the Packages folder to thefolder

C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages
Nowrun the CheckSUR tool again (it may take a while)

Postthe new CheckSUR.log file, and the CheckSUR.persist.log file.

Then run another SFC/SCANNOW, and post the new CBS.log file

Then do a manual Check for Updates - what happens/shows now?

Hey all,

I had some maleware on my PC and Bleepingcomputer helped me get rid of it. Since then I have been unable to successfully run Windows update to install update kb2984976 but instead receive code 8024200d.

I have run SURT repeatedly and have just completed running sfc as administrator and it found no problems.

Tried to attach the CBS zip file but received a 500- Internal Server Error.

I would greatly appreciate any help as I am hopelessly lost on this topic.

Answer:W7 64 bit PC update error 0x800f081f. Update kb2984976 fails

The error uploading the files is almost certainly because the file is too large - remove the older CBSPersist files until the compressed file size is under 8MB and try again.

The message "Working on updates 12%" has been hanging on the screen for the last 12 hours on my desktop pc.

I had the same problem, though at a different point in the update process, with my laptop.

I had to abandon the update on my laptop and reinstall.

Do I have to go through all that a gain with my Desktop?

I'm very frustrated and thinking of reverting to Windows 7.

Does anyone have some suggestions to correct the stalled update procedure.

Many thanks

As the title says, I have problems with Windows Update. I tried some fixes like: Reset_Reregister_Windows_Update_Components, Reset_Windows_Update_History, MicrosoftFixit50362 (which is a Microsoft Installer Fixer that couldn't install PowerShell), MicrosoftFixit50202. But what I really need is installing .NET Framework 4. I tried forcing it to install, installing it step by step, but it couldn't go further than .NET Framework 3.5. I need that Framework, the other updates don't really matter. And the interesting thing is that my antivirus doesn't say that Windows is not up-to-date, which is not normal, in ESET Smart Security, if Windows is not up-to-date.
If specs matter:

Answer:Windows Update stuck at Checking for Updates and can't install Updates manually

Hi antoniu200:

Many other Vista users have reported that Windows Update seems to get stuck at "Checking for updates..." for long periods of time, and this problem dates back to the August 2015 Patch Tuesday updates - see my screenshots in ScousaJAY's thread windows update just seems to hang while checking in the VistaForums. This month's December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates required a full hour on my machine before it finished the  "Checking for updates..." phase and finally presented a list of available updates, so you might want to try running a manual Windows Update and leaving your computer alone for an hour or so to see if it eventually runs to completion.

You might also want to read Nikilet's recent thread Updates were not configured correctly in that same forum.  Some Vista users, including myself, received an error message this month stating "Updates were not configured correctly. Reverting changes. Please do not turn off your computer" when they tried to install the December 2015 Patch Tuesday updates.  Six updates for the Vista OS and one cumulative update for IE9 were marked as "Failed" on my machine after Windows forced an automatic rollback and re-boot of my machine.  I re-ran Windows Update today and all Important updates that failed yesterday eventually installed successfully ("Checking for updates..." still took about one hour and I declined one Recommended update KB3112148 for Vista and one Optional update KB3106614 for Silver... I recently (one week ago) made myself a dual-boot to Windows Vista SP2. I installed everything I needed and set the Windows updates to Automatically install updates. When I needed to make a video smaller (no need to talk about this in this thread) on Handbrake it said I needed Microsoft .NET Framework 4.0. I was surprised to see that. I went to see what Windows updates does and it wasn't checking for updates, as I set it to do. I started the check myself. I left it like that 30 minutes. When I closed my game, it was in the same state: checking for updates. So, I went to my .NET Framework 4 installer and, after 15 minutes, it gave an error: another installer is running. There were no installers, besides Windows update. So, I closed its process and let the installer run. After 15 minutes, it gave me an error (I don't remember the name of the error, I'll post it ASAP). So, I started researching, tried everything (MS FIXIT 50202, reset windows update history, reregister windows update components which gave me error 1060 and error 5 - error 5 is after trying MS FIXIT). I tried to "force" the .NET Framework 4 install by installing it step-by-step: 1.1  1.1 SP1  3.5  4. No succes. I AT LEAST need to install that .Net Framwork somehow. And the most interesting part is that my antivirus doesn't say that my OS is not up-to-date . SPECS: 6GB RAMAMD Athlon ll X4 750K 3.2-4.0 GHzAMD Radeon R7 240 4GB GDDR3

Now it doesn't even give the error anymore. It just sits there and fake-installing .Net Framework.

Hi all, I've run into the same problem twice now regarding windows 8 updates. Basically what happens is it will run an automatic update and restart, (even though I had them disabled, hell, I even selected it not even LOOK for automatic updates, yet it still automatically updated and restarted...) Main problem though is that once this update restarts it shows the Lenovo and windows 8 loading screen, but when it gets to the point where it should show the login screen, it simply shows a flickering screen back and forth between black and blue forever and ever.. I went into the BIOS and messed with everything, booted with legacy and couldn't find any solutions.
The first time this happened, the only way I was able to fix the issue was to run a system restore which took an image of my last boot where it could work properly, kept my files but deleted all of my softwares. I dealt with it, reinstalled my software, and selected disable automatic updates, but it updated automatically anyway -_-.. I let it go, obviously not messing with it during an update and let it restart on its own only to run into the same problem.. a flickering screen between black and blue for ever and ever..only THIS time, I had image disabled so I could not do a system restore without loosing all of my files as well.
However, I did a windows 8 install on top of windows 8 and transfered all of my old files onto the new windows 8 install.. but.. obviously it's bound to happen again. I did nothing ... Read more

Hello all,

I've reinstalled an HP Probook 4540s with Windows 8 Pro in German. After a few Windows Updates runs, it now fails (most of the time) when running Windows Updates. Installations are ok, but after a reboot Windows says they failed and have to be reverted. I've tried numerous fixes on Windows Update and run most of the anti-virus, rootkit scanners and removals, but alas to no avail.

I have no problem running these scans all over again or try these fixes. Please let me know what you want me to do exactly and I'll reply as soon as possible.

Also, Windows keeps asking me to register it, but I can't as there is no option available to do this over the internet even though I'm connected to the internet.

Thanks for reading this and hopefully you can help me a little further!

Cheers,
 Michiel

Answer:Windows Update fails over and over again

I'll try to provide with as much information as I can to what I've done already. But as the computer is currently reverting one last update and rebooting now and again, I don't have access to it.

Installed some Windows Updates
From the 150 updates or so available I've managed to install about half.

Malware scans
I've run these scans:
- TDSS killer by Kaspersky
- FRST64.exe
- Malware Bytes
- AdwCleaner
- rkiller
- GMER
- aswMBR

Possible fixes
I've tried these fixes:
- Windows Update Troubleshooter (funny: it says it resolved three issues (can't remember what) and the next time  it fixes them again)

Environment
- The user account is administrator. Even tried a new user with admin privileges (with the same results).
- Anti-virus program: Windows Defender

Software installed
- LibreOffice
- VLC
- Chrome
- TeamViewer 9
- CyberLink
- HP Support software
- HP printer/scanner driver

Each time I boot up my PC it tries (but fails) to install two updates; (1) Security Update for Adobe Flash Player for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based Systems (KB3163207) with Error code 0x8007371b and (2) Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1511 for x64-based systems with typically no error code. Other updates have successfully installed, but these two fail every time. When it fails it then undoes all changes and Restarts without updating. Sometimes the update gets to as much as 30% before it removes the changes and Restarts. I've run the built-in update troubleshooter which always finds and fixes(?) the problems but they keep coming back. I've run sfc /scannow which reports errors 'some of which it could not fix.' I have also run DISM .../checkhealth > no errors detected. I have followed numerous threads and used some of the info found but to no avail. Any assistance would sure be appreciated.

I have a valid copy of Windows 7 family pack. I have used for a while. Worked just fine until I recently had a HD failure, replaced HD and cloned it and had to reload Windows 7 from my valid Windows 7 install disk. I have a "confirmed" Genuine logo on my System page and have confirmed with Windows online that the product key is valid.

Issues: ~Windows update will not work. No update come in and updates errors out, saying the service is not running, when I check with the Windows Servcies, Windows update IS running
~Windows homegroup networking will not work, even though Windows "sees" the network..it will not join the homegroup with my password
~Today Windows online validation is saying my Product ID has expired? Why...my System page says I have a valid copy with a Windows Logo.
~ Again I have a valid "Family Pack" used on only 2 computers, even though I could have a thrid I do not. I reload from the valid install disk. Thats when my problems statred. I use Mcfee firewall. Turning off the firewall seemed NOT to help either.

I have no idea what to do. Asking if anyone has some help.

Thanks....

If you're printer is working fine, I would advise you to right-click on that and choose Hide update. That way, you won't get nagged about it when you're going to do subsequent updates.

I have: Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2Dell Inspiron 1721Back around February 10th 2010, I noticed that my Windows Update stopped being able to connect and download updates, it fails with error code (80070002). I've read through many help guides from Microsoft, most of which suggest to stop the windows update service, then remove files from the SoftwareDistrubution folder. None of these suggestions help me. I also cannot seem to run the Windows Fixit programs because something called Powershell fails to install.Whenever I restart my OS I get the "Configuring Updates 3 of 3" message, it stays at 0% but my computer still starts anyway. It has done this for months, which is odd and a tad bit annoying.I'm starting to suspect that my lack of updates is also interfering with the process of installing other non-related new programs, which is beginning to get on my nerves. Can anyone here help or offer suggestions to fix this? I'm hoping for a possible fix without having to re-install another version of Windows.

Answer:Windows Update FAILS

If there's anything else I should include with this for more information, please feel free to inform me and I'll get on it. I haven't been to this forum in a while.

Win 7 Professional SP1 64 bit

I just noticed a few days ago that 11/13/2016 was my last successful MS update.  So far all my attempts at debugging have failed. McAfee AV and Firewall are installed and scans by both McAfee and Malwarebytes are clean. I have also run SFC /scannow and
chkdsk.

When I try to launch the update from Control Panel, I get this error:

Windows could not search for new updates
Code 80244008
I tried to run WindowsUpdateDiagnostic but it fails with error:

An error occurred while troubleshooting
An unexpected error has occurred. The troubleshooting wizard can't continue.
Any help much appreciated!

Hi.

Been putting up with this for some time now and it's getting a bit much. Continually telling me I need an update but if I try it tends to result in a failure and says it will try again later. For example I'm now looking at an error message that shows Error code: (0x80073712).

I'd copy & paste the (top of the) update history, but it seems that MS doesn't want me to even highlight that text.

(I did wonder if it was connected with the changes I had to make to turn the connection into a metered one in order to control downloads; but that worked well long after I made that change, so that seems unlikely.)

I did try to find a solution on the Net but didn't manage to fix it, which is why I'm putting up with it, but I'd appreciate info on how to sort it if anyone has a fix.

Cheers.

I recently re-installed windows 8 regular on my ASUS X450LC laptop using the recovery media. I tried to upgrade to 8.1. It wont let me install 8.1 unless I do windows update. After running windows update, it says there are 100+ updates and takes close to 2 hours to download and update. At 98% it gives an error saying it is reverting updates, but then sticks there for hours on end, (the longest I waited was 4 hours then i re-installed with the recovery usb). Rebooting solves nothing and it sticks again. Is there a way to use my ASUS embedded windows 8 license to install 8.1 straight without going through 100+ pointless updates?

Answer:Windows update fails

In one of the more head-scratching moves, Microsoft never made an 8.1 ISO image or any other kind of download like they did with service packs before. So you're stuck going through all the updates needed for 8.1 to install.

Microsoft has a couple of tools you can run that may fix the problem. It's at least worth a shot before taking more drastic measures. Troubleshoot problems with installing updates - Windows Help That link covers Windows Update in a generic sense for 8/8.1.

If that doesn't solve it, I'd run memtest86+ overnight on the unit, because you may well have some bad RAM. The Windows memory test is useless, so don't trust that.
