Strange BSODs, Unable to Determine Cause Alone

Question: Strange BSODs, Unable to Determine Cause Alone

Occasionally, my entire system will just hang and either be forced to restart, or, very rarely, it will be able to regain control and continue working. I've ran memtest and memtestx86 to determine if the cause is my ram, but both tests showed the ram is working fine. The cause could be my GPU, an ASUS R9 290, but I have already done two RMA's to have the card repaired.

To get a bit of insight on these BSOD's, my system is very unstable for most games. When running Rust, my system seems to be extremely stable and can run the game for eternity. Whilst watching videos on youtube, the system is somewhat stable, the potential of a crash is still there, but I am free to do as I please for hours. Now, when playing other games, such as: League of Legends, Garry's Mod, Fallout: New Vegas, Bordelands 2, the system is extremely unstable. The most I can get is a few hours and crashing is extremely frequent.

I have been told that doing a bios update fixes most problems of an unstable system, but my motherboard rejected the latest bios that I tried to use in the update. I am afraid I have nothing left up my sleeve, and thus, must turn to these forums.

I have used the DM Log Collector program, so the ZIP is attached below. I am hoping to have this problem resolved soon as I must escape this elo hell in League of Legends and reach my true potential: Challenjour.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Strange BSODs, Unable to Determine Cause Alone

So let's go through all that I do know and what I think I know.

System is somewhat unstable. BSODs are occurring a few times a day and seem to be reducing their occurrence as the days go on.

When the system crashes, there is not Blue Screen displayed, the system automatically restarts.

It would appear that Google Chrome could be possibly causing these crashes as I am able to play games for a longer period of time with Google Chrome closed. When it is open, the system will crash more frequently and even crash whilst I am watching videos or looking on various forums.

Some games retain stability for longer, Rust, World of Warcraft. Other games have some stability to them, League of Legends, Fallout: New Vegas. And other games will almost always crash within the first hour, Garry's Mod, Borderlands 2. So these crashes really depend on a factor. A factor that I do not know because I cannot read these .dmp files and someone has yet to view this thread and read them to me.

It's really a game of guessing and I am losing.

For about a month now, I've been getting BSODs on Windows 10 and I haven't been able to figure out why. Been getting a variety of different error codes as well. I did a memory scan which reported no problems, and ran chkdsk c: /r which didn't fix the problem. I also have CrystalDiskInfo which says my HDD is in good health. I should also mention that my PC will occasionally just restart itself randomly without a blue screen, and occasionally just freeze completely, meaning I have to force a shut down. Not sure if this is related.
Here are the dump files: click here help getting this resolved would be greatly appreciated, cheers.

I have the ThinkPad T60p (2007 model) and Lenovo's spec sheet says it supports up to 4GB but not on the Intel 945PM and GM chipsets. However I'm unable to tell which chipset I have. I tried Belarc and it didn't mention any of the chipsets that Lenovo mentions. Does Windows (XP) or Lenovo have a utility I can use to identify this or all of the hardware I have?

Answer:Max RAM? Unable to determine hardware

Welcome to the forum!

While your ThinkPad will recognize 4GB of RAM in BIOS, only 3GB will be usable regardless of OS used, due to a chipset limitation.

This holds true for all R60/e, T60/p, X60/s/T and Z61e/m/p/t ThinkPads.

Hi,
this has been a long standing issue.... I have never been able to send emails using an SMTP mailer. Never!

I am on a Mac (with Parallels). I use Bluehost for hosting. I have even tried a VPN to get this resolved and nothing works. Ever. But I am getting close to the heart of the issue after many years of trying (This issue has financially crippled my business - so any assistance would be GREATLY appreciated)

Here are some of the things that I found online that may be of use...

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/300171

http://forums.holdemmanager.com/manager-general/317012-unable-connect-remote-server.html

Also I saw something relating HIVE from Microsoft which relates to user profiles

I am at my witts end trying to resolve this.

Thanks

Heya!

I seem to be getting the BSOD when playing games, most recently during a game of Dota2.

When the BSOD does occur my computer hangs and a weird, electronic - it's hard to describe - whining sound comes through the speakers.

I've run the SF_Diagnostic_Tool.exe as per the instructions. Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

Hi bickas.

Daemon Tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known BSOD causer. Uninstall the program at first. Then download SPTD standalone installer from Disk-Tools.com, and execute the downloaded file as guided below :
Double click to open it.
Click this button only:

If it is grayed out, as in the picture, there is no more SPTD in your system, and you just close the window.
Free up the startup. Windows does not need any other program to auto start with it, but the auto start programs often conflicts and causes various problems including BSODs.
Click on the Start button
Type “msconfig (without quotes), click the resulting link. It will open the System Configuration window.
Select the “Startup” tab.
Deselect all items other than the antivirus.
Apply > OK
Accept then restart.
I would suggest you to uninstall Viscosity Virtual Adapter V9.1, at least as a test.

Been receiving numerous BSOD for months. I never was able to determine the exact cause the first time. Most of the time the error occurs during a game such as Skyrim, Diablo 3. However, sometimes the error happened when watching videos on YouTube or even while idle.

Every time I thought I fixed it, I get a new one. Most of the time it was IRQ less than or equal. I swapped to an older card and it was less frequent, but still got them. Im back to the original card and still get the errors. Sometimes going days without errors, sometimes cant even go 20 minutes without one.

Im a bit lost in the dark on this one, documentation on the web point every direction, blaming video drivers, windows programs and even wireless adapters.

I built this computer about a year ago. Things were running smooth up until recently. I m usually pretty good at figuring out what is causing Errors on my computers but I cannot figure out what is causing this one. I do see kernel Errors in the event log but that is only about a bug check after it crashes.
I reinstalled windows
Updated the firmware on my C Drive and Motherboard
Installed windows updates
updated by graphics card drivers
Ran disk check on my C drive
I have attached all the logs. Thanks in advance for all the help.

Dell Inspiron 9400 LT
Win XP Pro

XP updaes will not install, and it takes 10 minutes for it to start up. Browsers don't always take me where I want to go.

ETC.

I reviewed a similiar situation in another post and am going to try those tecniques.

Answer:My Dell 9400 is infected, but I am unable to determine by what.

That slow start could be caused by too many items in startup, a failing hdd, a very fragmented hdd or malware.
Suggest you backup all important files or create an image of the entire drive and store it on an external medium. If the
hdd is failing, the more you use it the more likely it will become unbootable and unable to recover files.

Use CCleaner to cleanup the crud. Once you have done that open CCleaner and click on Tools and choose Startups.
At the bottom of that page you will see a button when clicked will allow you post the list of programs presently starting up
at boot. Post that list back here.

After you have backed up the computer and posted the list of startups you can run some programs to hopefully find and
remove whatever adware and malware is on the computer.

Use the instructions for Rkill, MBAM, AdwCleaner, Junkware Removal Tool, and Eset online scanner in your previous topic for a different computer.
Make sure that all active security programs are stopped from running/ disabled before running the scans.

Is there an easy way to determine and point out the offending driver when there are BSODs that mention a driver is to blame, so I can uninstall it? The BSODs all say "DRIVER_IRQL_ (less or not equal to, something like that)" and this is after just reinstalling Win XP on my laptop, so one or more of the many drivers I installed must be to blame. I'm looking for a way to pin-point the problem driver(s), not roll back and carefully install only what I need.

Answer:Is there an easy way to determine and point out the offending driver when there are BSODs that mention a driver is to blame, so...

Restart your computer and rapidly press F8. it should present you a blue screen with a few choices. Choose the first one and then again rapidly press F8. It should give you many options, choose start in safe mode. Then, at Start choose Control panel and open admin tools. Choose computer managament. Open device manager, and select the device which has ! mark next to it, and uninstall it. It should work then.

Would be most appreciative if you could help me identify this ransomware.  It has infected both my mother's and my father's computers.  I am only able to provide a screen shot of the ransomware message, which I uploaded to the ID Ransomware tool.  Unable to figure out how to attach the screen shot to this post, however.

It is a white text, blue background message, with two additional warning popups from a "Microsoft Support Desk" that provides a toll free number to call.  It does not ask for money in the message, but my father (unfortunately) did call the number, at which point they asked him for a lot of information about his computer and network settings, and eventually were able to take control of his computer by doing a screen share, at which point my father says the cursor was moving around on the screen by itself and lots of windows were being opened and changes were being made.  Then, the "help desk" people demanded money and threatened to report him to the authorities if he did not pay a fee for them to fix the problems, citing evidence of "illegal activities" they had located on his computer.  My father is a 71 year old retiree with not so much as a parking ticket his entire life!

Thanks very much in advance for your help

Hi,  I have recently bought a Lenovo G580.  Lenovo Solution Center has a permanent warning saying it is 'Unable to determine the warranty status'.  I have been onto the Lenovo support site, check warranty status page and enter the serial number, it says 'Machine Type and Serial not found in iBase'.  What does this mean?  How can I check the warranty status (bought from a reputable retailer, so I assume there's some kind of warranty attached) and how can I get rid of this message out of Lenovo Solution Center?!Thanks.

A little while after my fresh install and driver installations, my computer has started to completely freeze up randomly. It happens after it has been running for a while. It doesn't seem to have much of a pattern, because I've played games like Crysis 2 for hours and nothing happened, and then ill be browsing for maybe an hour and itll do it. Sometimes the freezes are intermittent, but sometimes the computer completely freezes (the num lock key does not work, if this helps determine the kind of freeze).

Some other things to note,

1) I have woken up a few times, turned on my computer and it comes out of a hibernation mode with a BSOD error. I have since disabled hibernation mode so I do not know if this error is fixed or related.

2) I have two temperature monitors on my physical computer, one on the motherboard that displays around 50 degrees c and another EVGA voltage controller on the front panel that displays 50 c. This temp is not normal as I have an intel i7 sandy bridge at stock clock with a thermaltake frio at full blast. However, Core temp says my temperature idles around 35 c. This may not be related.

3) I have installed most drivers. I flashed my bios to the new bios. I updated the most recent firmware on my ssd. I used the SMART setting, nothing was ever displayed. I ran windows memory diagnostic, no errors came up though I never got a log out of it.

4) I've checked device manager, I fixed one unknown device but uninstalled the three other problematic device... Read more

While attempting to do an upgrade from Vista Home Premium 64 bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit I get the following message; "Setup was unable to determine if BitLocker Drive Encryption is in use." The only option then is to cancel the upgrade. I've tried installing 3 times now with the same results.

To my knowledge BitLocker isn't even installed on my pc. I have never even heard of it until this evening Should I try for a clean install? I have also had my CD/DVD drive vanish from My Computer after rebooting.

Thanks for any help.

Answer:"Setup was unable to determine...BitLocker"

Well, I know the Vista Home Premium version does not contain Bit Locker, are you encrypting the drives any other way?

Just asking, but are you compressing the drive?

Hi all,

I am running a Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit OEM Laptop purchased about a month ago. For several weeks now it has been having regular BSODs. I have tried a string of different fixes, driver updates, system restores etc. I thought/still think it's something to do with the ethernet port but no attempts to mend that have proved fruitful...

Here is the most recent crash log thing:
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3
Locale ID: 5129

Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: 7f
BCP1: 0000000000000008
BCP2: 0000000080050033
BCP3: 00000000000006F8
BCP4: FFFFF80002C8905F
OS Version: 6_1_7600
Service Pack: 0_0
Product: 768_1

Files that help describe the problem:
C:\Windows\Minidump\030711-19936-01.dmp
C:\Users\Robert\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-209602-0.sysdata.xml
The two files described at the end there are always the same, though the numbers change each time.
I have tried to attach also the information asked for in the sticky thread about BSODs, so hopefully that has worked.

Thanks,
Robert

Here's my problem. Yesterday, I rebooted my PC and since then I haven't been able to get onto XP. I kept getting BSoD errors. I can boot into Linux, but every time I attempt to boot into XP I get the "Start windows normally, Safe mode" etc options. None of them do anything different, always BSoDs. Now, I've started just getting "The following file is missing or corrupt: vgaoem.fon".

Also I've tried to boot from my XP CD but once it gets to "Setup is scaning your hardware configuration" the screen goes blank and I've left it for hours, nothing happens.

Any help is GREATLY appreciated! Thanks in advance guys !

Answer:Unable to boot xp - BSoDs and more

Boot with your Xp CD again
Select the first R prompt (to go into the Recovery console)
Select 1 to log onto your Administrator account
Then select enter

On the command prompt (recovery console) type:

chkdsk c: /r
(note: space before /r)

Once Check Disk has finished scanning and possibly repairing any errors
Type exit to restart
Hopefully it works

I'm not sure what to write here, I included the diagnostics zip but I'll fill this out anyway:
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit, ATI Radeon HD 4800 series video card, and I've had problems on a pretty regular basis since around late January, when someone attempted to change my system drive to an SSD (didn't work for nontechnical reasons, things were set back but some changed settings out of my knowledge may be causing this, the person responsible has been known to change options without telling me). I have no problems accessing the SSD, reading or writing to it. It's still connected.
My friend suspected it may be an audio card problem so I've changed audio cards for the moment to an Audigy while waiting for a better one that I ordered to come in the mail, unfortunately the audio on the Audigy is all weird in games (particularly Skyrim) so it seems it might be bad, and I've also continued to get BSODs.
They USUALLY happen when I'm watching or playing something. Earlier today, it was watching netflix. The other day, it was a game. Another time I woke up to it having blue screened so it's not a sure thing, and it often crashes/hangs in the middle of minidumps so the logs are not anywhere near the full extent of the problem.
I ran memtest off usb for 4 passes (which about 10 hours) with no errors.
I'm not really sure which direction to go from here, thank you for your help!

Answer:Regular BSODs, unable to find specific trigger/cause

You need to update your ATI/AMD display driver.
You can get it from the link in our forum, Latest AMD Catalyst Video Driver for Windows 7, or you may go to AMD Graphics Driver and Software and opt for Automatically Detect and Install the appropriate driver for your card.

During installation, you may opt for advanced installation, and install the display driver only, not the Catalyst Control Center.

But all your crash dumps are different with different probable causes, all those probable causes being OS components. It is a sign of hardware failure. 4 passes of memtest is never enough, you need to run it for at least 7-8 passes.

The problem:
It started yesterday. Just before a class of his (my husband just recently started college), my husband had a paper he needed to print. So he took a 1GB USB data stick we had (I'm not sure the brand - I can't seem to find it now and I wouldn't be suprised if he chucked it in a fit of anger over this) and stuck it into his computer in order to transfer the paper to it and then have me print it out.
In doing so, he tried to transfer the paper and couldn't. He got several error messages, then he rebooted and continued getting error messages. I wish I knew what those said but I didn't really notice till he started getting BSOD's.
So before his class, he decided to reformat and reinstall WinXP. And here's where the big errors began.
He left while it started reinstalling. The first time through, it couldn't even format the beg... Read more

Not sure if you are doing a clean install or not but by the sounds of things you are not. By doing a clean install you can wipe out all partitions and then repartition and reformat your drive. Remember though by doing this all data on the drive will be lost.

Basically for the past few weeks I have been having so much trouble with my Vista laptop. This week I've started getting random BSODs that have been increasing in frequency. Occasionally on start up I may get a no boot disk error message. Last night for the first time my laptop was unable to start (I fixed that in start up repair mode). My laptop taskbar has also been randomly switching to classic theme. My laptop has been havin all these random issues. I haven't installe anything new, but around the time this started I had been running scans constantly on my computer in an attempt to get rid of the google redirect virus.

I'm mainly worried about the BSODs
I may get 0x50, 0x8E, 0x7E, 0xA0 ( I believe I wrote these correctly?)
The bsods generally happen if I leave my laptop inactive for along period of time, close it, or sometimes on start up

Also when I try to log on to one of my other user accounts it bsods constantly, within a 10 minute time frame. As to my main user account if I keep it active nothing will happen.

I usually just google the problem and sift through forum entries, but I think this time I needed a more personalized answer. I hope I've given enough information. I want a solution that won't make me have wipe my computer (there's a lot of files I want to keep that if deleted/ uninstalled are going to be nearly impossible to get back)

Answer:Random BSODs, no bootdisk, unable to start, my glitchy laptop

This sounds like a classic case of hard drive corruption. This can be caused by several things, but was probably caused by the virus you had/still have. I would backup everything important, then check in the malware forum for help. If malware is not an issue, then check back here and I will help you further.

Hello--

I have been having no end of trouble with my video card. I purchased an open box card from EVGA a month ago, which I had to RMA. After replacing my old card and changing the clock/voltage with MSI Afterburner, I started getting constant black screen + "Nvidia Display Kernal Driver *something* version XXX has stopped and recovered". After a week of this, I changed the MSI Afterburner settings back to stock, at which point I bluescreened, and continue to blue screen upon trying to boot the OS past the Windows logo. I am currently in SafeMode and can't seem to boot past that. I have had the GFX card since 2010 and have never once had an issue with it. I will upload the DM Log when it completes, running now.

Thanks

Howdy,
I`m working on one of my XP boxes and noticed this:

MFE_RR: \??\C:\DOCUME~1\Owner\LOCALS~1\Temp\mfe_rr.sys (manual start)

Searching revealed nothing on this service but Google referenced indirectly to some sort of infection. Also there are services disabled dmboot, dmio, dmload where historicaly I can not recall this being true.

What is this mfe_rr.sys service?

System runs fine nothing remarkable it is the post I have read that contain the above line that I am uncomfortable with.

Thank You

Here's the scenario:
We have 4 users on a home pc--1 admin, 3 limited users. XP Pro.
Administrator logs off. Limited user logs on. Limited user logs off. Administrator attempts to log on but screen goes black and appears to loose signal. Monitor displays loss of signal. Eventually a single limited users icon will appear on a blue screen and the system is locked. Must do a hard restart to reset. Also, Task Manager appears to not function. Ctrl Alt Del does nothing except put icon in task bar. Have checked to make sure it isn't disabled. Have run Nortons, AdAware, Spybot. All systems appear clean. All systems are updated. I have searched but cannot find any help on this.
Any suggestions would be greatly apprreciated.

PS...I just discovered i cannot shut down from the start menu...have to use hard shutdown.

Some time ago, I made a backup of my personal folder in Vista (C:\Users\Jimmy), copying it to my D: drive.

Now I want to delete that folder from the D: drive, because I don't need the backup. However, there are two files that just won't go away.

They are in:
D:\backup\Jimmy\AppData\Roaming\SecuROM\UserData\

the actual files are called "ЃϵϳЅЂϿϽϯІχϯπρϴϱЄϱЃϵϳЅ" and "ЃϵϳЅЂϿϽϯІχϯπρЂϻϵЉЃϵϳЅ" - yeah, those are the actual filenames. They are 10KB and 1KB in the list view, however the properties window shows them as being 0 bytes and all the date fields are blank:

When I try to delete them, a box comes up saying the item could not be found. Same thing if I try to move or rename them. If I use the command prompt and do a "dir" in that folder, the files come up as "???????????p?????????" and it's impossible to delete them from there.

The files themselves aren't that big, but it's annoying that I can't get rid of them. Any ideas?

alright. lets start from the beginning. im not sure if this first incident is related or not, but ill tell you about it just in case. so im using my dell inspiron 1546 on a pillow on my lap. i have never done this before. eventually, after i was just finishinginstalling some new software, the computer crashes. it goed dead. no blue screen or anything. (windows 7) i make several attempts to restart it, and the same thing happens every time when it reaches the windows loading stage of the boot up. so, i go ad google the software on another computer but dont find anything. 20 mins later i try to boot up the computer, and i was able to get into startup repair. i ran startup repair, and it didint crash. afterwards i was able to boot up and the suposedly virus software worked as intended. i ran a scan just to be sure. i assumed it was simply overheated cuz it was quite warm. now, weeks later, about a week ago, i installed ubuntu using the windows installer. i rebooted, and was able to open ubuntu once. then i wanted to go back to windows, and i had the same issue as before. it would let me select wich os i wanted, but as soon as it started booting windows or ubuntu, it crashed. the computer was definetly not overheating. i once again managed to get into start up repair and that fixed everything once again for both os's. i have not used ubuntu much bacause it is extremely laggy and windows has been laggier since i installed it aswell. also, every once in a while, my computer will fr... You may have done the damage the first time it overheated. Maybe not, I'd test the RAM and HDD, you can use Ultimate Boot CD - Download the UBCD

For future referance always use a laptop on a flat level surface. Using it on a pillow is like covering the radiator on your car, not good even for a short period of time.

Hello,

I had something strange happen yesterday, in the middle of browsing whenever I would access google.com I would get a popup in IE requesting to run the file DfrgmapTrust.dll. I denied access and quickly started searching for an answer. I also check Firefox and did not get the same popup.

Unfortunately my searches turned up nothing.

I booted into safemode and ran AV. Our corporate AV is Symantec (up to date definitions) and I ran Malwarebytes with updated definitions and nothing came up wiht either.

I then removed and backed up the .dll in question. I also found the following in the registry under;

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

rundll32.exe "C:\Users\<my user name>\AppData\Local\wmiapi3xx\DfrgmapTrust.dll",WdobjInit BluetoothMapext

After removing the DLL and the registry entry everything seems back to normal but Iím concerned about the strange behavior and the fact I canít find references to the dll or its options anywhere.

It seems like it was too easy to remove to be a virus but I thought Iíd get some advice.

Thanks in advance.

OS is Win7 Enterprise (64)

Here's my situation:

I cannot access the website facebook.com with any browser on my computer. I can however access login.facebook.com, university.facebook.com etc... as well as any other web page in the world. Any browser that I use will have this problem. It is not the internet provider because I have had 2 (in 2 different countries) and the problem persists.

I never had this problem before, but started to notice this after I installed a free firewall around 6 months ago. (yeah dumb mistake on my part) I uninstalled it after a day and luckily there were no viruses.

It seems to me that the firewall didn't completely uninstall correctly and something is left over that prevents me from ever going on the site.

Tried reverting registry to a previous saved copy but to no avail.
There are also no additional exe's that im aware of that might belong to the firewall running.

so basically:
This problem is localized on my computer and is independent of browsers and isps. I can use facebook, but anytime when I am redirected to the main directory facebook.com/...., it will show "this page cannot be loaded". I do not have any viruses or malware whatsoever and keep my system clean. Also it's been 6 months and if it were a virus, then it sucks.

please help, this problem is driving me nuts! if you use facebook, then you'd know that this means I can't add any apps and lose certain key functionality with the site.

Right so today I booted up my pc and go to play some Eve online but for some reason the game refuses to get past the splash screen, but the process just keeps running. I thought the problem was eve related so I tried searching for some sort of solution relative to the game however none of the solutions I've found seem to work for me. The only way I can get eve to run is to disable my network connection through windows. If I do that and run eve, the game loads up as normal, but if I then enable my connection, I'm unable to log in to the game as it gets stuck at "Authenticating"

So out of boredom I decided to play some DOTA in warcraft 3, but lo and behold I'm unable to connect to battle.net. I'm stuck at "Initiating connection to battle.net..."

I then try to run steam to try some other online games only to get an error window pop up saying:
"Steam.exe - Application Error
The exception unkown software exception (0xc000000d) occured in the application at location 0x301a8a62"

If I try to run steam with my network connection disabled, I dont get an application error but steam requires an internet connection in order to work so that doesn't help.

Next I tried Exteel (a free to play game from ncsoft) which is stuck at "Checking for updates".

Limewire is stuck at "starting connection"

This is the first time I've encountered a problem like this. I can't decided if it's internet or software related. I've done ... Read more

Ran Trendmicro Housecall, found a number of adware/malware items, some items unable to clean becuase the "pattern" wasn't able to.

STRANGE OBSERVANCE:

When trying to run panda software scan, Avast on access scanner found a trojan trying to be loaded from the HTTP path of the panda scan. Not sure of what to make of this. I clicked on "abort" within the avast pop-up, and it ended the Panda scan.

Manually Uninstalled the Viewpoints media player and toolbar.

Am posting here because of a frustrating problem I have been having when attempting to use Adobe Premiere Elements video editing software.

Hello, recently i noticed that out of nowhere, my internet was going very slow; loading pages at a very slow pace, and basically 'choosing' when it wanted to load the pages or not. Just some really strange behavior. I ran a full scan and boot time scan about a month or two ago, and it detected an incredible amount of infected files, in the range of about 1,000 - 10,000. Many of them were some type of google update files, folders with crazy amounts of letters and numbers in their name between curly braces '{ 8sdfkjsdf8...etc,etc}'.

After quarantining and delting these, the internet problems seemed to dissapear. But ofcourse they come back. A few days ago i ran a boot time scan and it detected about 3,000 viruses. Again, these were mostly those strange google update files/folders. Here is the DDS.txt:

Hello everyone,

I am writing you today to ask you to help my laptop. The issue was that after I downloaded some software last saturday, it left my computer acting strange, I can't open my anti-virus, Windows Defender or some other software like Hijack This.

I recently followed some guides involving the use of anti-viruses like Malwarebytes, Spyware Terminator, but the only who could find a couple of trojans, is Kaspersky. But in the end it only eliminated those trojans and my PC still can not open Windows Defender or my anti-virus, Webroot.

Please help me. I also included the report made by Farbar.

I've got a really strange problem, that makes it really difficult to post any diagnostic information about the problem. I've tried running HiJackThis, MalwareBytes anti-malware, Trendnet housecall online scanner, GMER, ad-aware, Spybot S&D, RootRepeal and dds.scr. The results are pretty much the same for all of these programs. The scan/analysis starts, sometimes it gets partway through scanning, and then the application window gets closed. After this happens, in the case of .exe files, the resulting program is rendered useless, in that further attempts to launch it result in a "Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." and you also cannot rename, or delete the file.

Trend-net housecall is also pretty interesting, in that it runs inside the browser, and after it was terminated (part way through the scan) iexplore.exe now exhibits the same error in not being able to launch. This not being able to launch persists across reboots also. I then installed firefox.exe on the system, was using it for a brief period, tried trend-net housecall and now it too is showing the error in not being able to launch.

dds.scr is able to be to be re-launched, and it brings up the black command window type screen, but never brings up the notepad windows. It seems unaffected by the termination behaviour, and is able to be re-launched.

I was able to run A2 anti-trojan, and do have a log of what it... Read more

Thanks in advance for any advice.
The BDODs appear to be of multiple types.
Motherboard, RAM, wireless card and SSD were all replaced in early October and system completely reinstalled but BSODs continue. They are more likely to occur 1-2 min after waking from sleep, but recently also occurred when the system is just sitting.

System details below
Windows 7 professional SP1, x64
Version of OS: Windows(7), VOLUME_KMSCLIENT channel
See my profile for system details.

I have a custom built computer. It BSODs frequently or freezes with "Display driver has stopped working and has recovered successfully". It's been happening since I first got it and I'm not sure why it's happening. Most of the time it BSODs with an error pointing to atikmpag.sys.

I already tried running memtest86 (no errors), using driver sweeper to uninstall and reinstall the ATI drivers, formatting windows, but no luck. It's very frustrating as I have to deal with the BSODs and freezes everyday.

? OS - Vista/ Windows 7 ? : Windows 7
? x86 (32-bit) or x64 ? x64
? Is the OS an OEM version (came pre-installed on system) or full retail version (YOU purchased it from retailer)? Full retail version
? Age of system (hardware) 6 months

? CPU - Intel i5-2500k sandy bridge
? Video Card - Gigabyte Radeon HD 6950
? MotherBoard - Asus P8P67-M
? Power Supply - brand & wattage - 700W

? System Manufacturer - Custom built

The problem is more likely than not hardware related.

First, try this graphics stress test - Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark - Windows 7 Forums

If that does not cause any issues, try these graphics memtests - [email protected] - DownloadUtils

I would recommend you try to test at least 75% of the graphics memory, although you may have to do less than that (not all is accessible).

Here are the basic usage instructions:

MemtestCL is available for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS X-based machines. In the
following directions, please replace "MemtestCL" with the name of the program
included in the distribution for your operating system.

MemtestCL is a command line application; to run it, start it from a command
prompt (Start->Run->cmd in Windows, Terminal.app in OS X). For basic operation,
just run it from the command prompt:

By default, MemtestCL will test 128 megabytes of memory on the first OpenCL
device on the first OpenCL platform found, running 50 iterations of its tests.
On typical machines, each iteration will complete in under 10 seconds with
these parameters (the speed will vary both with the speed of the card tested
and the amount of memory tested). The amount of memory tested and number of
test iterations can be modified by adding comm... Read more

Answer:determine nic in pre os

AIDA16 apparently does thoug I've never used.

Ultimate Boot CD has this utility and many more: http://ubcd.sourceforge.net/

Or take the side off the computer and look at the components. Most have a sticker or markings on the PCB that will identify what they are. If a device is integrated into the motherbaord then any drivers or info can be obtained from the motherboard manufacturer's website.

Hi everyone. My computer seems to have been slowing down a little. I know why. The reason is because I have added more running processes to the computer. I have more things running in the System Tray than before. This, of course, is likely taking up more of my RAM. I know that it isn't Spyware or a slow CPU (2.53 Ghz isn't very slow) that is slowing down my computer so I narrowed it down to my RAM. However, I am not certain about this. I don't know much about hardware. Anyway, I have 512 mb of RAM. Is there a way of determining whether more RAM would increase my computer's performance or not?

For anyone looking here, this is just a guide I thought up and I think this is pretty useful.
If you are deciding between 2 or more CPUs, use this equation:

A= Number of cores
B= Clock speed of each core
C= The cache of the CPU in MB, also make it as, for example, 6MB cache, that would be 0.6.
D= Your answer, or "CPU Rating".

A x B + C=D

We'll test this out with an Intel Pentium E6300, because it's the one I'm thinking of right now.

2 x 2.80= 5.6 + 0.2= 5.8

This can help you when buying a new CPU. I just thought that would help.

Thanks,

size for virtual memory to set up on a P4 2.53GhZ pc with 1GB memory and 80GB hard drive running Windows XP Pro SP1.Other helpful advice appreciated

Answer:how to determine what the best

you may get some conflicting opinions on this one:my advice is just to let windows manage it.you have 1 gig of installed physical ram so there should be no problems here with this ammount of installe ram with most tasks what so ever if you choose this option.some people say the ideal setting should be around one and a half to two times your installed ram in both the min and max value boxes.this stops windows from resizing the swap file when it needs to.with your ammoun of ram installed and set to system managed size it shouldnt happen often if at all.i have only 512mb of installed ram,i play latest games, edit video, photo etc and have tried various different settings for the xp swap file and can see no difference at all in performance when setting to either a fixed size, windows managed size or even running with no swap file at all.if you had a low ammount of installed ram then it may be a different story altogether.try various settings and see for yourself but as above i would just let the system handle it.

Also, what anti-virus app are you using?

1. Please note...It is much easier to find patterns, etc, when there is more than one crash.
We prefer you wait until you have at least two so that if one is corrupt the other probably wont be.

2. Avast can be a contributing cause of BSOD'S .

I'm using xnView to display exr files. With the UAC at the hightest level, I always get a warning with starting the program or double clickng on an OpenEXR file. It would seem like there is some action xnView is taking to trigger this. How can I find out what action is is trying to perform that needs a higher privilege?

Answer:Is there a way to determine what causes a UAC warning?

Hello 7powerWannabe, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Anytime that you see this shield icon next to a link (Window Explorer) or at the bottom right corner of a file icon, it indicates that you will get a UAC prompt when you open it for it to Run as administrator (elevated).

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Is there anywhere in the system software that can tell you if your USB port is 2.0 or 1.1? Any third party analyzer? I've tried Belarc; not in there.

I have one PC running Windows ME and one running Windows 2000 Pro.

Guys,

I have a pile of XP cds, and a ton of keys, and 2 dead machines. I'm booting them on life support and need to figure out what keys went with which installs so I can reuse the keys on some new kit I have coming.

Googled it, found nothing. Would really appreciate a hand on this one.

Thanks in advance all!

Answer:XP Pro Question - how to determine CD key used

Well, this works when run from the machine in question. Depending on how dead your machines are, I don't know if it will be of any help to you or not.

Edit - This doesn't seem to give reliable results.

I was switching users, and it screened with an IRQ Less Than or somethingorother- I couldn't read it in time. Where is a log, and how do I read it to find the source of the problem?

Answer:First BSOD, how do I determine what it was?

First and foremost, one of the first steps everyone should do on their PCs is to disable the Automatic reboot feature in the System Properties.

However, that will only help with any future errors, so for now, you can check your event logs.

I just got a Sony Vaio and on the box it says it has 1 GB (512MBx2) DDR2-667 SDRAM expandable to 2 GB.

I want to expand to 2 GB but I don't know much about this, someone said something about making the pin numbers match or something weird like that...

basically any ddr2-667 RAM will work. does it have 4 memory slots or 2? you may need to replace it all for 2 gigs or you might be able to just add another 2x512

The little light stays on saying my computer is downloading something. Sometimes it's a huge email file, sometimes it's Adobe Acrobat updating, sometimes it's something I've given permission to auto update (avast, firefox, thunderbird).

Is there a way to determine anything about what's coming through?

My computer, a 2011 4-core Dell running Windows 7 Home Premium is having problems (as I mentioned in another thread). It freezes up from time to time; today it took over 20 minutes to reboot. The user session came up OK but then I got the busy mouse cursor for like 17 minutes. I would like to know what was happening, or what was it waiting for. Is there something I can do to log the computer's activity on start up, with timings, so I can figure out what was the hold up?

Thanks

Answer:Determine what happens on start up

With Autoruns you could track what is going on.

My SP4 Pro Pen sporadically does nothing when clicked. (It's set up to launch OneNote when clicked and take a screenshot when double-clicked). Other BT devices (external speaker, primarily) seem to connect OK to PC.If I reboot or re-pair, everything's fine. But here's the question:I have no way of knowing what the true problem is. It could be one of two:1) Pen is not transmitting via BT, or2) PC is not receiving Pen's signalHow do I determine which it is? Is there like a "BT Signal capture" diagnostic? Preferably one I could run on a different device?

Hi there. I had my computer rebuilt, however I want to be sure of the type and speed of the ram I had installed. What applications are out there ( and where) that I can use to determine this? I would prefer freeware if it is avail but will pay for a good utility. I want to know what my ram speed/bus is. I had rebuilt an Asus K8V with Athlon 64 3400, I also wanted (and told that is what I got) PC3200 ram. The ram is named Corsair but how do I know it is DDR 400 and how do I determine if my mobo and ram are operating at that? Sorry for such a muddeled post. Thanks for your patience. Oh, I have Aida32 but it does not show my ram speed, what it shows is 200 (bus speed )and it only shows 512 L2 cache which I know is wrong.

I have the problem that when the weather is hot the laptop starts acting super slow mo after about 10 minutes after start up. I have a E6400 with a 2.93Ghz cpu, 256 onboard NVIDIA video and 4GB of RAM. I bought this used on eBay 2 years ago and am only now discovering why it is overheating.

I run Windows XP SP3 on it and I know that it is this laptop that is having problems because when I used the same hard drive on my D630 I had it heatup just as much(as hot) but it did not slow down in performance. I had it running for a day during our last hot spell with no hint of overheating. Unlike the D630 of the bottom surface being hot enough to fry an egg on half of the bottoms surface from the location of the cpu and to the middle, the E6400 is only hot where the ROM drive is.
I had taken the back panel off thinking that it would resolve the heat problem but after checking the fan area, re-applying the caked and cracked thermal grease on the cpu I discovered that the problem was not the cpu overheating. I did notice that when I touched the cpu's heat sink that it was cooler to the touch(it was warm before but was now cool, as though it wasn't transferring any heat) after replacing the thermal grease but I noticed that the heat from this machine was coming either from the ROM or from whatever is under the ROM drive.
The bios version of this machine is A28.
Any ideas how I can diagnose what the problem is? I am guessing that the processors in my D630's is actually a good... Read more
